The best phone I have ever had. I have it for 4 years and it still works with original battery for 2 up to 4 days! Absolutely awsome built quality. The best is to install only the most usable and stable like the followings:Net 3.5,Easy today,firefox theme,firewall call screen,samsung time,lockdevice G UI,Avian play,icontact,avatar,cleanram,keyswop,Notif Blinker,spb keyboard and spb shell. all these are free or cracked. The i780 processor can be overclocked to 806Mhz though at 728Mhz the processor is quite stable and the battery back is pretty decent at those speeds.

What's the error your getting? Some ROM on the Samsung i780 D1 (English version) has a programming bug, which doesn't identify GPRS and works well the first time. The Solution to your Problem is, follow these simple steps and you should be good to go using msn and live messenger: Go to Settings >> Connection type >> GPRS Settings >> Manually enter the details by calling your mobile operator and (this party pay attention) when you manually enter data make sure that the connection type is INTERNET AND NOT VODAFONE GPRS or any other service provider BRAND NAME. Save the details and then restart your phone and start using the service. Another issue could also be Microsoft has a bad habit of not supporting older versions of Live messenger on WM5 to 6.x version so, there not much you can do about it. The solution I have given you works in 99% of cases.

Read this before flashing: Use appropriate files for sections in Mirage otherwise you can kill bootloader or kill phone part by flashing wrong sections!!! Also check downloaded files if download is not corrupted by MD5Hash with MD5filechecker. Well, I have been reading a few articles in last 2hour and have noticed that few OS bundles have a few bugs that don't detect the battery meter correctly. I one of the review of Mugen power battery I noticed some people getting updated from the mobile company on how to rectify this issue. And no, this is not for i780 though the device that had received an battery patch was a HP device that was running WM6.1 now let me check if it works. Go to the following link and toward the bottom of the page you'll see this Update: HP has released a patch that can be downloaded here that fix the bug introduced in ROM version 1.1 where the extended battery level was not reported correctly. Please ensure you click on the word here in the link provided above so you get the patch, install it on ur i780 and check if there's any difference. (OR) Another option that you have is to look up for Samsung released an ID1 update which came for Samsung i907 Epix. They are a few patches that help to resolve the battery meter issue as well.

Well in that case I apologize! In most cases the battery should be compatible with any phone or OS atleast for me, I haven't faced such an issue, try to flash your PDA with DXE1 bundle if I'm not mistaken it should work. Well, OS bundles comes with battery capacity norms, when the OEM want you to use their own brand and third party battery brands, they make a few changes to the OS, when you get third party battery it malfunctions. Well, gimme details on which bundle did you flash your i780 with should be able to rectify it!

i'm using samsung official wm6.1 rom PDXIB1, i have read reports of mugen extended battery not being recognized by wm6.1. That is it doesn't recognized the higher capacity and will shut down when the mugen battery hasn't been fully depleted (it thinks that the battery is of samsung original battery capacity). have you tried mugen with this firmware version? does it has similar problems? thanks!

Its quite simple Daudi, get in touch with people at Mugen Power Batteries they have the ultimate battery for i780 (3000mAh) its quite large and jutts out from the back, so when you buy a mugen power battery u also get an back cover as well as part of the package. New Facebook application for Samsung i780. Try this application works fine on i780 though I must warn you they are few glitches. Application: XDA Facebook App Version 3.0 Beta It integrates into internal facebook application on your i780 works fine though you may face some issues in terms of a sudden shutdown of the application if on clicking on a few icons there's no response. Note: This application was specifically designed for HTC QVGA screens perhaps that's one reason you may have to deal with the issue other wise the applications works better than the other facebook applications I have seen in recent times for wm6.1

Hey guys.. i got this phone as a gift and was very impressed with it. It is really cool. However i am facing a problem with it. I did 'hard reset' yesterday and the then put a new sim ans the phone was workign fine. However the battery was low and the phone died by evening. This review is for all WM phones upto 6.5.3Version. For all those who are stuck with WM6.1 here are a few awesome applications to download. If you've been complaining about the phone having a old media player I'd suggest you keep your credit card ready and download Kinoma Player, those who cannot afford it please download KinomaFree Player this is an amazing application it lets you play your music when the phone goes into standby mode as well. Though the free player has a few limitations, what it does offer above the rest is being able to play your fav Shoutcast Radio Channel on Wifi, 3G and GPRS(dont recommend.) You can download lots of Podcast of your fav artist and get audio review of best selling books as well. This application works both on 6.1 and 6.5versions. Another application is TellMe application works only for 6.5 or 6.5.3 versions of windows mobile. Its a audio based service that reads out messages to you while your driving and also becomes a stenographer and types your message while your driving, it lets you access bing maps and gives you details on the closest restaurant in the area your at and more. TVUPlayer Application one amazing application if your a young college going kid or a business man travelling around the world and can't access news channels or movie channels of your choice in a foreign country, then I'd suggest you download TVU-Player it offers selected list of channels that flash on your screen it may range from BBC, CNB to HBO International, Few Indian Bollywood channels and fashion and music TV channels. Another amazing application is UCweb7.4 this application works on all WM5 to 6.5.3 versions. This browser cannot be compared to Opera or Skyfire or Bolt. The one thing to use UCweb is its enables you to browse wap sites without any hassles unlike the list of browsers I had mentioned about earlier. Try this download the latest version of UCweb and try going to www.waptricks.com and download latest MP3 of your fav artist, mini-movies, games, applications absolutely free. I'm sure your gonna love it!! Hi Nathan Think it's not big problem. Just change your battery with another which already fully recharge, since originally samsung gave 2 battery as standard package. Then turn on your phone...it should work well without any hardreset.

go to xda-developer to answer the question.. i think your unit need to hard reset, but you must back up the data before it. to hard reset, press green + red button + power button, then press space after the notification appear.. it will restore to factory setting, all of your data will be loss..

its ok if the alignment keep showing in several times, do it for 10 times (or more) in accurate point, you will pass the alignment setting. by the way, did you hard reset the unit? if you do, the alignment will appear in several times either. and you must tap accurately to pass this setting. i hope it may help you.

I just bought this phone 2 months back. Till now I'm very happy with this device. I just love the qwerty. Touch screen also OK (good to have it though I use it less). I'm using heineken78's "i780.classic.6.5 128WWE" Rom from xda-developers and just love it. This phone uses Samsung's propitiatory data cable. It has no micro USB and 3.5mm audio jack. Camera is 2Mp. Touch screen a bit OK only. Rest all features impressive. Yes, Samsung must improve upon this kind of devices. I just love it. Just wonder when phone hardware also gets standardized like PC hardware so that we can Install different OS's. :)

I have to share this with you� I think for many years to come I will say �Samsung i780 is the best phone I ever had�. I have recently upgraded to Samsung B7330, what a disappointment!!! I realized the reason is the fact that the mouse is so user friendly, it was not necessary to start my laptop for social networking in 2 years because Facebook and Skype worked wonderful. If i780�s were still available on contracts in RSA I would get me a brand new one today!!!!!

this phone is quite handy to say.. ive used it about a year now.. the main problem is it takes to long to charge compared to my other hp, around 7hr to fully charge. overall its worth to buy. for second hand unit is around RM400 or USD120 nowdays.. the garmin is also quite hard to install, but maybe technician shop should handle it..

Hooray! Finally an upgrade to WM6.5.3 with mouse fixed! See link below. It's worth the try. The difference between 6.1 and 6.5.3 is night and day. Instructions. 1. Download the Samaung i780 modem drivers (google it) and INSTALL them. 2. Download the Mirage updater and Extact it: 3. Download the ROM it self and extract it if u don't have: 4. run the mirage updater. 5. click on PDA and select the rom youve just extracted "i780***.bin" and press open. 6. Click on DETECT. 7. on the phone: a. remove the battery (Make sure it's over 50% charged) b. Insert the Battery c. click on the Enter Button + Function Button and while pressing them turn the i780 on d. keep holding until the DETECT Message appears. 8. Connect the i780 to the PC. 9. Update begins, 10. Wait until completed.

Hi Rachel, its very simple you need a blue tooth dongle with you incase you want to active sync your phone with your PC connect the Blutooth dongle switch on your bluetooth on your phone try to pair your phone's bluetooth with you PC once you have done that try active sync it, the first time you active sync it after you've paired your pc to ur phone. The first time you try to active sync it the software isn't going to recognize your phone using bluetooth though you may see your phone on the PC software don't panic. Follow these steps. Step1: Run the Windows Mobile Device Center you see four options. Step2: Click on the last option that says " Mobile Device Settings." Step3: Under Mobile Device settings you will see " Connection Settings" by default you connection settings will be using USB click on the USB Allow again until you see the tick mark has disappeared Step4: Right below the option Connect using Allow USB you will see a " Allow connections to one of the following" when you click on the drop down menu you see two options COM1 and Bluetooth choose bluetooth. Step5: Ensure that you also opt for " This computer is connected to under Automatic option and click on Ok And you should be able to install Skype using the exe file.

The timer that you see on the top right hand side when you click on the 3G option is basically if you phone is actively using 3G service or GPRS service by your service provider. Hi! Yes you can get your Samsung i780 updated to the new window mobile 6.5.1 but, the service center guys will not be able to help you as the its against their company policy. Honestly the wm6.5 isn't that great honestly it slows down the phone by 50% and the UI can get very slugish at times especially when your multi-tasking if you probably want to get your i780 updated to 6.5 you may have to do it by yourself you can go to XDA developers or look up WM6.5 for i780 on google and get a direct link to the website. While you try updating the phone if the phone bonks off the company warranty may not hold up! So be careful what you wish for!!

Hey Silviu don't worry its easy follow these steps and it would work just fine! Step1: Uninstall your Active Sync and re-install it! Step2: Go to Systems on your i780 you and click on the USB to PC and then tick on the "Enable advanced network functionality." followed by going to connections and clicking on the USB Connction mode you'd see 2 option Activesync and Mass Storage click on the Active snync. Step3: Connect your phone to the proprietary USB and let the phone active sny with computer. Step4: Go to the programs and out off all icons you see you'll see on icon "Internet Sharing" click on that icon and choose USB as the method of using the net through ur phone to the PC and the second option talk about the Network connection. If you are able to use the net on your phone then you'd notice the same provider mentioned in there after you have check these details click on the connect option that shows up on the extreme left once you have you will be on the way to surf the net via from ur phone to ur pc!!

I tried to connect to the internet from my desktop with my i780 as a modem, I installed Samsung PC Studio and Samsung PC Studio Intenet Acces, but the programs can't see the phone. I need advices. hey sushi, the i780 is supposedly able to support up to even the 32GB sdhc memory cards. This is a purely hardware issue, not software. All SDHC devices are tuned to support the maximum possible sdhc cards - up to 32GB. Here is a screenshot of a 16GB SDHC working on the i780:

Few people have issues with your i780's memory card capabilities. WM 5 & 6 supports upto 4GB SD cards, after you have got your software update to WM6.1 the phone will be able to support even an 8GB SD card. Anything higher than 8GB will not work, until you have some magic tricks up your selves, as far as it goes I haven't come across anybody using above 8GB memory card on i780.

When I was using GPS, my friend called me.. N the phone get hang... I was tried to restart it.. but doesn't work. Now the phone call is not function (can't make call, and receive call), stated not service (but still can receive and send sms). GPS is not function as well. I lost my contact list at the same time. The Good: Nice keyboard. The Bad: I am very disappointed with this phone, you cant answer the phone without switching of the LCD, the auto LCD off take a min of 5 seconds. Every time I answer this phone my ear pushed the touch screen and disconnects me. When you hang up the phone gets confused, because the LCD has been switched off but when it switches back on it only switches on half way, pushing the power button twice solves the problem. If you make a phone call the same thing happens, but the LCD has to be switched of the just as the connection is made or it won't connect. If you have a MP3 as a message tone you can't get it to stop, EVEN IF YOU ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PHONE CONVERSATION!! HOW PATHETIC IS THAT??? It just keeps on playing for 3 minutes while you are talking. If you don't go into the settings/ Task manger at least once a day to close all the programs, the phone freezes. This is because once you open a program and close it, it keeps on running in the background for some unknown reason that I don't get. MXIT does not work on this phone, you must get some advanced version somewhere on the internet. Battery life is PATHETIC! even if the LCD is on low. If used as a GPS the unit overheats and the voice will eventually stop working, then you need to reset it. The GPS signal becomes very poor as it ages, it takes up to 30 min to find a signal, which is how long the battery will last if not plugged in. It is very difficult to record a phone conversation, and if it works it only records for a few seconds. The camera is useless compared to my old phone which also had a 2 Mp camera. If you remove the memory card and you put it back in again, you must reset your ring-tones and alerts. my message shortcut button does not work if I set it to MESSAGES! it only works for everything else. The mouse pad is to slick for my sticky fingers. This is my third Samsung, my first Samsung was a D500 which was OK, the I had a D600 which was Awful in every way, and now this piece of junk. I thought that Samsung grew the past 2 years, Don't buy this phone unless you like a qwerty keyboard.

Hi AltSile, actually not many people are aware but, Samsung does come with a sound recorder but how its placed in the notes is a major turn off. Try clicking the Notes>>Menu>>Voice Recording tool, and start recording. Its really irritating to use a voice recorder if you have to go all the way to the notes. But, thank got you have better option, try the ADC Sound Recorder - Its free Pocket Voice Recorder - Its free too..

Jeetesh: I'd suggest you take it to your nearby service center and that those guys reinstall the ROM into your phone seems like either your sound drivers have got corrupted or the file has gone missing! Until you know how to re-install wm I would suggest you get it done at the service center!

Hi I have my samsung i780 ,but when i recieve a call the phone has no ring tone. The error reads "This ring tone is corrupted or unavailable. Please choose a different ring tone" I've tried many other rings tones, but still no luck. Please can someone advise me on how to fix this problem ?

Updated mine to WM6.5 with 96dpi and works great! Used Garmin Mobile XT and works great without any special process to do. GPS signal is good even inside a house. GPS locked within 1.5mins.

Hi Isaac, try getting in touch with you IT Admin at your work or else try looking up the setting for the Outlook and see if there's any security option that has been put off. Most of such Outlook issues happen because of no compatibility while setting up your outlook on the phone. I had a similar issues but, rectified it by reaching out to the IT guy at my work station!

I want to sync my phones outlook with my office mail.......I have been able to set up a mail account but every time I try syncing outlook it gives an error:The security server on the server is not valid.Contact your exchange server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server. The downside of this is that my colleagues with Nokia e71s have been able to set up mail for exchange accounts.....anyone with similar issues?How did you solve that?

@ Kalr: Just cuz the apple you ate was rotten doesn't mean that all the apples in the basket are rotten. During the the installation of the OS and while passing through the quality test some gliches can't be identified well, in your case you had the warranty at your disposal you probably should have gone the Samsung Service center and should have got the OS re-installed and should have used it. Well I can't blame you, some say " Ignorance is a bliss to the ignorant!" 1 simple step and you would have solved the issue. But, I must agree the i780's battery life is awfully less than SE phones as well. But, then you always have Mugen Power Batteries!

I received my phone about 4 months ago. I was really aprehensive as I used win mobile on my HTC and found it to be rather cumbersome. Never the less I gave the i780 the benefit of the doubt. After about a month the phone just started shutting down (with full battery life) for no reason. I would place it on my desk and return minutes later to realise the phone is OFF. This occurs daily! On occasion while talking to someone and receiving an incoming call the entire phone would "freeze", occurence about 1-2 x per week. Generally speaking the phone is fair , the problem is the software - my apprehensions were 100%. Windows needs to stick to the things they do worst - operating systems for PC. Would I buy the phone - NO , what would I buy ? Nokia E72. My wife has one and so does my brother and those phones are bullet proof to say the least.

Dennis some phones have a few glitches like the one you just mentioned when fone goes in sleep mode when the wifi is switched on. This could possible by that some error caused in the OS, which means that you would have to go to your closest Samsung service center and reinstall wm6 or 6.1. I have the same problem with my phone as well. And found that once the software has either been updated or re-installed all such small glitches tend to disappear permanently.

I've got this phone for more than a year now. I'm happy with the phone except for two annoying glitches. 1. I synced it over-the-air with my MS Exchange mailbox including contacts, calendar and notes, it works pretty fine but it would keep asking me to enter my password even if I had chose to save the password. And if that is not bad enough, if I set it to sync 5 folders in my Inbox it would require me to enter my email password 5 times! 2. The wifi works fine but when the phone goes to sleep mode while the wifi is on, it would not wake up, I have to take out the battery to restart the phone. I dunno if this is a known issue with this model or is it just my phone? I would appreciate if others can tell me if this is also happening to their Samsung i780's.

Gid, you probably must have not made use of the notes. While talking on the phone you can make note by clicking the Note under the speaker phone option and make notes. The best way to jot down important information in the notes is my activating the speaker phone and then using the note option to type in the new # or information. This note is later saved on your phone momeory!

When I'm in the middle of a call and someone gives me another phone number, and I type it into the phone, I have to dial it straight away (and put the 1st phone call on hold), so that I don't lose the number when I hang up the original call. Having windows mobile 6.1 for this phone is not much an upgrade from 6.0 (The interface change, as well as sms thread). I still have to install SPB Shell 3.5.3 for it to become like an Iphone or HTC Touch. But I do love this phone very much. Two years of using and it still can compete with the newer phones. Better than B7330! Great value for its price!

Well my brother recently upgraded his HTC Diamond from the WM6.1 to WM6.5 and I must tell apart from the Graphical Interface I kind of hated the WM6.5 I prefer the 6.1 cuz two reasons the interface is easy to use when compared the 6.5 its a complete let down. I would rather pay $50 to $120 for the SPB Shell 3.5 and pimp up my existing 6.1! Cheers!

Hey JP: Happy New Year! Well I would suggest if you have an issue with the batter backup. I strongly advice you to get a hold of Mugen Power battery which is available at $75 this batter is fatter and last two days even after extensive usage of WiFi n' blu-tooth. The the cost is a factor but, atleast you will stop complaining about the backup it has to offer. All Mugen power batteries come for i780 come with a battery cover since the battery being fat it jutts out from the space allotted to it. strange what you say about the battery life. Maybe you have bluetooth and WLAN etc running all the time? Mine lasts for DAYS on a charge, plus it comes with TWO of those fat batteries. All in all I have come to really love this phone, through the last 2 years. It still does everything i need, and except for the camera the features are still competitive. Great phone. Definitely worth considering still.

Hi all, I use this phone for the last 1 month. It came WM 6.1 pre-installed from agents. It is valuable for meney but a power hungry. If I use it outside office fr e-mails etc, battery last only 4-5 hrs. Shame. Will there be a better alternative for battries ?

Guess what, i've been using this phone for almost 2-yrs now and upgraded to WM6.1pro samsung official released! just yesterday,, then..installed SPB 3.5.3 just a while ago, i was like in shocked & awe by what this phone is capable of; from a boring ui of wm6pro to a combination of these 2-great piece of system software(wm6.1 & spb3.5.3)Even the B7330 model can't replace/retire this phone. @ Rasel: Dude you can upgrade it to wm6.1 there's a specific website that lets you do so. I would suggest that you head to the Samsung service center and have one of them to upgrade it to 6.1, that way your warranty will be intact and in case you happen to upgrade it to wm6.1 yourself and end up screwing it up, the warranty will be null and void and you'll end up paying a huge bomb for the upgrade. I strongly recommend that you go to the service center and have some of the technicians do the software upgrade!

Well for all those who have problems with its battery back up, I would suggest you to buy an extended batter for the samsung i780, Mugen power batter is the best example and best battery for the i780. The only issue being since the width of the battery is going to be more than the original sleeks ones. You may have to buy a special battery cover For more details have a look at this website and if you get a chance read the reviews as well.

Wlestrade, its quite obvious that most phones are not built to be perfect. There no bloody phone that is perfect that matches all our needs without any flaws. Most touchscreen phones have the problem of bad lighting and they can't be seen under direct sunlight duh! In comparison to many other WM phone out there the i780 stands out for few things. 1. its got a 624Mhz processor which is great for the it was released in the market. 2. comes with a touchpad and can be used as dpad, most phone then never had this option. (today if you notice the E73 and few other phone are using the same technology.) 3. Got some great features not the best in the class but, sure meets a business person's need for the hour. Most of us agree that the maker of the i780 could have come up with some better specs. Considering they didn't we need to check and help the company by giving feedbacks. The phone has some flaws but, end of the day its what I or you need that you feel the i780 will fill the gap in doing so.

I agree with Garfy. I am using MapmyIndia and it works very well. Have you installed a third party GPS software at all? The phone is AGPS capable but you have to subscribe to an external GPS service.

I own E63 and it hanged after sometime. Startup is slow. Both has wi-fi and the price is almost similar. I've tried I780 and i kind of like it. I'll advise u to go for i780. I'm getting one for myself soon.

@ GR: The problem with most of the phones is that they come with a limited internal memory and its in this imemory that all the email are downloaded so, the smaller the ROM capacity the fewer email accounts you can have on your phone. Until now, I haven't come across any phone that lets you download all the mails to your memory card directly. Though the Nokia E61i had the option of storing your messages on your memory card. I would suggest to check with your friend who areusing the new e71 on how many accounts they have on their phone. I maintain two accounts on my phone added my gmail as well just some time back. So, yes for now I can say the i780 supports 3 email accounts at any time.

Thanks a lot Sushanth. Currently having 5800 for about 2 months. Browsing is amazing. But retrieving emails automatically only limited 2 email accounts. I usually using numeric keypad with t9 input for faster, i don't use its qwerty on display as it slower and a lot of errors to type. Yesterday a friend of mine bought e71, asked me to make up some settings. OMG it's so sexy phone. Qwerty is amazing. Sushanth, can default email on winmo view html? I like eye catching email view as email view on my symbian phone is not eye catching. Thanks.

Well GR you can look at these set of phones they are the next best alternate for i780. 1. Nokia E72 comes with a great processor of 600Mhz, and you can check your email in outdoors with out any problem like its touchscreen counterparts. Cons: Though is the user memory is still at 128Mb RAM (Not bad you can manage.) 2. Samsung I8000 Omnia II (its the perfect device and the user has the option to upgrade the os to wm6.5) Cons: Its a touch screen may have difficulty reading and sending messages in outdoors especially under sunlight. 3. Blackberry Bold has everything your looking in a business phone but, the processor can be really sloppy and the battery life sucks in comparison with the above two phones. 4. HTC Touch Pro: It has a amazing qwerty keypad and its really easy to use. 5. Nokia E71 last but not the least the E71 very good battery life and amazing phone. But, not as good as the E72. Goolmal Retursn: If your always on the run and are looking to send email while your outdoor I would strongly recommend you stick to a non-touch screen phone. My personal experience so far has been that Symbian non-touchscreen phones are the best as its easy to use them and it is much easier sending your email while your walking around on the road or while sitting by the beach.

If your adamant about buying an i780 then its your call. I would strongly suggest you wait for a few months see the new launches of Samsung Mobile with Window Mobile 6.5 and Linux then make a choice. Hi GR: Well when it comes to 3rd party Applications the i780 is way behind considering that most 3rd party applications run on 320x240 resolutions screen where as the i780 comes with a square screen which makes it hard to get 3rd party applications. But, there's a flip side as well to this. You can try downloading QVGA screen software's that will help you download and help you use few selected applications. When it comes to Emails its one of the best phone out there I have been using the i780 for 6months now and have found it very good. I send and receive email from my phone but, if your used to a Nokia E61i you will find it hard to get used to the i780's qwerty buttons. Since the screen is a 320x320 resolution it becomes relatively easy to read emails. You have the option of deleting headers and also retrieving emails if deleted.

2 Kiran: Hey, I would suggest you download Nimbuzz and check if your wifi or GPRS is active before you start using it. If your unable to get connected to the server, I would suggest that you restart your phone and try the process all over again. Gtalk, Nimbuzz, Fring all of them works just fine on the i780. If your problem persists then I would suggest you go to the nearest Samsung Service center and seek for help.

I don't like the The existing mouse trackpad, which is execute the file instantly, where I need is just to highlight or to manage it (copy, cut, select). I desperately needs 4 way navigate cursors, where swiping the trackpad (4 way mode)is so slippery. Did SAMSUNG corect the problems at B7330, i637, or C6620? Secondly it's hard to find underscore (_) character. Third, E-buddy application don't fit the screen pixel ratio (what a pity). Otherwise it is really smart phone for me. The processor is superior to Pentium III. Awesome push e-mail.

I need to interject here. Microsoft has no control over the ROMS once they reach RTM and are given to the OEMs and carriers. It is entirely up to the carrier (working in conjunction with the OEM) to determine whetehr it is in their best interest to offer a given update for a given device.

It is not the virus. I think you have changed the Regional Setting on "Time". Once it is changed, all calendar time correspondingly change, like originally is 6 pm, and it changes to -3 hours, then all time set in the calendar will change by 3 hours earlier, ie. eg above, to 3 pm.

@Mubin: No, MS is offering the update to 6.5 only in the US now on a very few carriers. For the rest of the world you can download the cooked ROM's from few forums. Caution: My brother couple of days ago loaded the 6.5 on his HTC Daimond and its really great.....but very sloppy and slow. Reason being the minimum RAM required to run wm6.5 is 128MB so, if you plan to update your present phone with the 6.5ver you can imagine how slow it can get!

I used to own one of these, sold it, got a HTC Touch Pro 2, now I've sold that, going back to the I780 - it really is second to none as a guy below says, with the right software its superb. I missed the joypad/mouse alot and the Pro 2 is far too big and flimsy.

generally nothing is very well thought out - u can only use the mouse or the stylus instead of navigation buttons, you cant turn off programs instead have to open task bar and close them one at a time else the phone will lag from lack of memory, it often cant connect to the internet because windows cant decide which connection to use, camera doesnt integrate with MMS like a phone costing half as much can. the keyboard is my biggest gripe - it will get on your nerves its so small. basically all the features you use the majority of the time are the most annoying and least well thought out. i thoroughly regret buying it.

i780 is great, just 1 shortfall to point out: it'd be so nice if there were a tweak to enable internal speaker on SKYPE CALLS - I know there are numerous such tweaks for HTC windows mobile. I tried 4-5 on i780 and they don't work. another challenge, I guess for Skype software geeks is to enable video calling - i780 hardware should allow it, so why is software lagging behind...

I've been using it for 7 months already, and it fulfills almost all my needs: Pros: -Lightweight, fast, stable, good construction (nowobbling, squeaking like Nseries Nokias),exquisite music player-on par with N91, very good reception and phone quality, QWERTY, great messenger, WM6 is highly customizable, etc Average things: -Average camera for daytime conditions, but rather poor when not enough light -Baterry lasts around 2 days with moderate usage Cons: -Display has a very poor sunlight legibility, it's hard to use it outdoors on a sunny day, you have to find a shade or a proper angle to work with it (for indors usage is totally OK) -loudspeaker for ringtones is below average quality Overall I give it 8 out of 10, so far I don't see a device to replace I780 on the market

the touch screen is plastic, which is, in my opinion, better than glass. you just have to buy screen guards to totally protect the screen like all touch screen must.

@ *emokid Opera 9.7 beat works like a dream on the i780. But, you have to watch out while your using it to listen to online radio using the media player it can be a pain.

opera mini does not come installed, but opera 9.5 does. I just visited the site via my i780 and it installed and works just fine, although it shows up under java applications rather that an actual 'program'. The opera mini site identifies the phone so just sit back and relax. go to the mini.opera.com website on you phone, and the rest is as easy as cake :p hope this helps

Well, movies are really good on the i780 . It takes about 20 seconds to load a movie and then it works fine. for battery life, if you put the screen on low darkness you get about 4 hours.

Well, this is an annoyance that comes with the i780. Its a Microsoft thing that doesnt let you use thier programs over wifi :-( However, you may be interested in Fring. it allows you to have all of your MSN accounts intergrated but most importantly, it works over wifi!

This phone has most of the Epix's features but priced closed to the Jack series smart phones. The 3G is only for the Europe and Asia market but it has WiFi and two cameras. It has the same optical track pad and touch screen as the Epix. The phone is well build and feels solid. It is one high value phone for sure.

To Russel re: backlight on when music is playing-if you are using the Windows music player that came with the phone, you can program the buttons and there is an option for screen toggle. I set my spacebar as the toggle and when you press it after programming it, it turns the screen off, but you can only use it in the music player screen and not in any other screen even if the music is playing in the background.

@edwardss if you want a "true" smartphone go for i780. winmo rocks! if you want a typical nokia smartphone go for e71. the only thing good about it is the cam which is 3.2 and has flash. other than that i780 owns e71 any day.

i have figured it out how to use tomtom without installing or tweaking anything. just set the comport to 1 and the other one to com 9 and baud rate 9600, then in tomtom choose other NMEA and baud rate to 9600. otherwise you can use 4800 as baud rate at both places. Also install SPB cr@cked one from torr3nt and trust me this phone then look really MEAN... I am in love with it.

compared to the 5800, i780 kicks a*s when it comes to applications. just look around for pocketpc or winmo forums and you're good to go. my brother has a 5800 and most of the available apps suck. winmo is still king when it comes to customization and modding and stuff.

Spb 3.0 works perfect with this phone. You can customize it the way you want and it does a good job of hiding the ugly windows interface.

no complaints whatsoever about the unit. Only wm is a problem. The device itself is built really well. But for wm to be a nice os you really have to customize it hard. Some basic functions don't work out of the box, fingerfriendly-ness is not in the Microsoft's dictionary. So i used a lot of apps to make it better or a near-perfect device (spb mobile shell, thumbcal, inesoft dialer......)Using it only as a pure wm device without customization is really a drag (using stylus for everything is so 90's). Microsoft has aknowledged that with the new 6.5 and 7 windows mobile being around the corner. Hope it works out for wm...

What you'd just said was not clear, whether it's complaint, or admire. Think positively, - being generous, I guess. I've used the i780 for quite sometime, found no complaint. For the price (picked up 2nd handed for less than US$ 200 nearly a year ago) and specs, I can't ask for more. Happy using every moment of it. I use all function the windows OS can give. Good work.

that's strange! My battery lasted 3-4 days but i had all the features on power save. I was able to get it through the week with two full batteries without recharging easily. I found it was really redundant for Samsung to include 2 batteries in the pack since the performance was really great.Hmmm, maybe there's a problem with your battery or the charger! Battery life on my phone lasts for about 2 days of moderate usage. Always use task manager to ensure that you don't have applications running. About always connecting to the internet try downloading CT scheduler(www.connectivetools.com) this software does basically everything you can even schedule it to turn off GPRS/WIFI at specific times plus its free.

I find that the battery life is extremely poor, I have set up my phone to sync to my Exchange Server at work using active sync. I have set it to not Sync at all during business hours, only after hours it must sync. Although, during business hours my battery only lasts about 4 hours, then it is completely flat, but I keep seeing on the phone that it keeps connecting to the internet. Is there a way that I can set it to not automatically establish internet connections? Other than that, I find the phone really great.

I bought this phone about 2 weeks ago from Fizi. It is an absolutely awesome phone for such great value. The amazon maps application I downloaded plus the on board gps allowed me to quickly change my route one day when there was bad traffic. It types great when texting and keeps a list of conversations with the same people. It is so fast. I can quickly get to applications. I love the onboard mouse system. The HSDPA is super fast. I have googlemail as one of my favourite websites and so can see my emails really quickly and forward them or download if I want to. I have not seen any better value phone. There may be better phones, but you'll need to pay at least �100 more. However I am not going to pay �100 more to find out if they are better, as I have had many PDA phones in my time, paying �250 plus �45 month and they were not as good as this one. It is light. It is compact. It fits in my pocket. I like the colours on screen. I can quickly get to my contacts to phone. I can quickly change to silent mode. So thank you Samsung.

Hey all, I've been using the i780 for about 6 months now, and I've loved every minute. there is only one thing that annoys me, it has a gaming deficiency! no normal WM games work on it. The only programs I have found that work 100% are:- Fring Microsoft tag reader Divx player Googlemaps Youtube app (free from googlemobile) I'd love some suggestions to some more apps and maybe some games too plz- although none that need programs such as RealVGA or other to operate. luv this phone thankyou

Few other WEB BROWSER one must have on their i780 is UCWEB can be downloaded from www.ucweb.com Pros about UCB: 1. You can use it both to surf wap based webpages on your phone as well as check on wap based sites as well. 2. NetFront Browser can be downloaded from Pros: - Netfront works like the browser on iphone or on a HTC with touchflo feel to it. - Can surf multiple windows. Cons: - Doesn't support flash. Trust me netfront is better that IE on wm6.

Hey Kyoko, avoid using Opera for watching videos on youtube you have better browser for that. I strongly recommend you use skyfire it support full flash and java. You can download skyfire from www.skyfire.com Enjoy surfing and watching your fav video's on skyfire!

thanks Anonymous! In fact it only freezes on youtube, I haven't tried other sites yet if it freezes. I was wondering if that is normal when you surf youtube. Have you tried it? I did pretty much a lot of research on the features of the i780 before deciding to get one. I was torn between getting an e71 or an e63 or a cookie but was particular at the wifi feature. Nokia changes models a lot so I wouldn't want an outdated phone as soon as I just got it. Thus settled on the i780. I really love this phone and I'd like to see it's full potential. Please any help...that won't destroy the phone hopefully! ^_^ I've read of dead units after installing wm6.1 if their phone originally came with wm6. So I'd put that aside for now. I *did* try the Launcher that gwapito suggested and it worked! that was the fun part ^_^

I have tried it myself the only hitch is you gotta purchase the product to view all the features it has to offer. I too purchased a i780 recently. I'm not sure why is that your phone freezes while using opera. Try reseting it to factory settings and try again. If the problem persist. i have tried it all and in my opinion nothing gets even close to spb mobile shell (i used 2 and now the version 3 is even a greater revolution). Sometimes it's true what they advertise - it's the first software a wm user should install. I would surely break or sold my i780 if it wasn't for the russians. It gives wm unparalleled graphical as well as thumb friendly improvement. I don't work for the spb, but i highly recommend it to everyone using wm. All my friend owning Omnias are thanking me every time they see me:) And they have sold about million licenses without counting the pirated versiona! Regards!

As I've said, plain i780 without any tweak is not good so I will list all the tools and tweaks that will improve the ease and usability of i780 by 1000 percent! I will not post the links here so just google them. most of them are freewares. 1. AEButtons Plus - Assign up to 4 shortcuts to each hardware button. Single click, Double click & long press can have different functionality in just one button. Example open new SMS with just single click of a button or Open Inbox by double clicking the same button. 2. Launch Manager by fantasticbytes - This is my favorite launcher. Simple, Fast, no frills, it will make your i780 the easiest to use phone on earth. Forget about SPB mobile shell3, Vitto Winterface, pointUI, yrgo etc. Just try the version 3.5 beta at fantasticbytes.com and install it immediately period. My second honorable mention is panoramic LaunchPad. 3. chgfingermouse - This will easily toggle between mouse mode and 4way pad mode by just pressing a hardware button. It's because some operation works best with mouse while some are faster with 4way pad. Get used to the switching and navigation is a breeze. 4. MagikB by Mobiion - This will make typing in i780 twice easier. You can forget about Shift and Caps buttons because you will no longer need them with MagikB. Believe it its so effective and even made typing very addictive. 5. Quickly write new SMS. How many taps does it take just to write a new SMS? You can perform the same operation with just a click of a button. Just google it because gsmarena will not post this if I provide the links here. 6. RealVGA - this will solve all screen incompatibility problems regarding the square resolution 7. Samsungbacklight - this is a very very useful simple app. It will solve screen visibility problems during outdoors because its hard to adjust brightness settings if you cant see the screen. samsungbacklight will cycle to maximum brightness with just a click of a button. Alternatively you can use MVBKlight. 8. Batti - this a very good none obtrusive battery meter. it displays a long thin horizontal bar at the top with plenty of options. A similar alternative but less functional is also present in SPB pocket plus. 9. Dontforget - Lets accept the fact that i780 will stop all notifications after it goes standby or the display turns off. That means you will never know a new message or missed calls unless you turn on the display. This utility will continuously notify at predefined interval through sound, led, or vibration until you read the message. Alternatively you can install SPB phone suite. 10. S2U2 - this is simply a locking software but this is much better than the default windows mobile locking system which requires us to tap twice at different location just to unlock and it becomes difficult during bright outdoors. Another alternative is SmartLock. 11. fexploreext205 - this utility adds more functions to file explorer context menu popup like properties etc. Alternatively you can use spb pocket plus. That's all sorry I cant remember everyting. I'll just post again if ever. enjoy!

But i780 have trouble with games that support only 4way pad. To all, plain i780 without any tweak is not good. But after you apply them all its perfect and I love it more and more each day!

Hi Southeast Almost all apps support 320x320. Some old 240x320 games doesn't but I see bunch of new games happy with 320x320. Or you can download the freeware RealVGA to make all apps compatible. About the optical mouse it works really great. I downloaded chgfingermouse to easily toggle between 4way pad and mouse. I mapped it go a button and navigation is heaven.

Okay i didn'd see the first part of your post. The disadvantages of I780 would maybe be: square screen 320X320 which makes some apps incompatible (but nothing major), a poor camera and sometimes you have to press hard on the screen but that's the case with many wm devices. Otherwise i found no disadvantages except windows mobile, but you can succesfully mask that with software. If u have any more questions just ask!Regards!

I owned a I780 for almost a year and it was great. A great office device even considering windows mobile limitations. Every feature worked great, i got two batteries in the retail package and even on heavy use i couldn't drain one in lees than two days. Most of the times i got through the whole week with the pair, so in my opinion the battery life is excellent. You need a few pieces of software to make I780 an excellent device though (spb mobile shell 3.0 is a must)- Otherwise a great device and i highly recommend it!

Buy the Samsung i780 for two reasons faster processor and a better screen. I wouldn't say E63 is such a bad phone at all, but then you may find really uncomfortable to read or type you emails or documents with that 2.5" screen. Having used the Nokia E61i for more than a year for all my business purposes I found that fone to be charm to do the work. I was hoping that Nokia could go ahead and increase the processors speed but it seemed like they stuck with E90's processor 369MHz which isn't that bad but for the price you can get better phones today in the market.

regarding forward slash It's just there you don't have to use the virtual qwerty. You better download MagikB by mobiion. It will make the hardware qwerty far easier and faster to type. I'm not exaggerating. it will really make typing in i780 super fast, easy and addictive. And also the forward slash will be easier to type. just long press slash then the second button at the bottom.

I would really appreciate if somebody can help me on how I can have the battery power last for more than a day without to having to put it on standby mode!!

No! not lower frame rate. Maybe you mean lower resolution. Or just use Coreplayer and it can play anything without conversion. For optimal conversion I advise you to crop it to 320x320. you will loose some width but trust me it's a lot better than watching a small video with black borders.

I sometimes have the same problem with my touch pad causing me to double click to close an application. When this happens press and hold the 'OK' key plus the touch pad at the same time for about 5 seconds problem solved.

I've got an "upgraded" to 6.1 version, it works great at all times. If it does not work after upgrading, you must have done something improperly. Why not "hard reset", and have the center do the upgrade for you. My i780 does work really great.

If your unit is not having version PDX???, don't flash to WM6.1 especially the modded ones. You hv to go to Samsung Service Centre to upgrade to WM6.1. Anyways, WM6.1 ain't that great. The only major difference I can see is the GPS units will lock faster.

After using O2, Asus525, HTC-touch, IPAQ912, and NOW Samsung i780, I can conclude that this Samsung i780 is far better than those mentioned. Even it also has stylus and touch screen, but most convenient of all is that using qwerty key board is all I need most. For anyone looking for the "complete" operations, the i780 has proved itself to be the best one; full touch screen, if wanted (using both hands), or one hand using qwerty when needed. Full windows OS, what else we want? When manual "dialing" is needed, the numeric keys are direct operative as needed. Battery? I can get by upto 1 and half day (normal talking). I picked up a "pre-owned" i780 (for bht 7,500)in Bkk, thailand, 6 months ago intending to just try it out, and I've been satisfied with this little darn phone with no doubts till today.

Gwapito, i try other installer the one with the outlookfix, before install there is a warning that says "missing 96 DPI Resources bla bla bla" with the installer before, i also have the same message but with this installer only has 2 missing dlls as oppose to previous installer with 5 missing dlls... and with this installer i can run 96dpi fine. also i installed manilla2dsquare and the interface is a killer man. love the today theme but still needs several tweaks to make it run flawless...

The coolest phone i got! I really enjoyed the easyness of wi-fi. Good GPS (although i have to install "GPS gate" to get/ synchronize coordinate instead of blue dot on Google Map). yogas, I never experienced that kind of problem. RealVGA works flawlessly in my i780. Why don't you play with it more? like toggling the "Disable phone skin" I still have lots of useful tweaks for this device. I'll post them all here when I have time.

Gwapito, thanks for all the useful tips about aebplus and RealVGA... i just bought the i780 and veeery satisfied with the performance. but i wanna ask you, i try installing RealVGA and also install 96dpi pack, it did have a more high res look despite very small text ;) but when i activate the 96 dpi settings the phone and contact button in the screen cannot activate when i press it. so now i uninstall the RealVGA and sets my phone back to 128 dpi... any ideas?

Bond007_80 you can go for Palm Pro (released in October' 08), which has a touch screen and a keyboard but does not have a mouse pad. all other features are more or less the same. But i like the i780, since i have got one, cuz i like its mouse pad alot, it is very handy.

My personal comments comparing with some other phones. SAMSUNG i780 Speaker sound is rather soft and plain. Recommend to use Headset. i780 Original Headset sounds better, but size may not fit all ears, kept droping out of my ear. Found cheap i780 Headset connector / convertor for 3.5mm-Socket for normal walkman ear-piece. May be poor quality of cheap connector make my also cheap 32ohm ear-piece sound horrible. I thinking to buy a GOOD 8ohm or even 4ohm ear-piece, any suggestion anyone? "PHILIPIS" is pricy and so-so. "SONY" pricer, may be better. Price is always pulling me back to buy a GOOD ear-piece that can make me better enjoy MP3 on my mobile. My conclusion: i780 Speaker is so-so (SOFT and PLAIN), origina Headset sounds better but may not fit all ears (mine is too big and the ear-piece kept dropping).

BELLE, This is a Re post because gsmarena rejected this post several times. I hope this will finally work. 1.to manually create quickLaunch to new SMS is a bit tricky. (a.) You have to edit the following parameter in notepad (30#windows\tmail.exe -service "SMS" -to "" -body "") (b.) then rename the extension from (.txt) to (.lnk) (c.) then transfer to your phone through activesync. If you want you can assign it to a button from settings, buttons. (a.) To make it simple just download "launch manager" from "http://fanasticbytes.com" because it has option to automatically make it for you. (b.) After installing it make sure you also download the i780 skin at "http://fantasticbytes.com/downloads/getfile/nam­e/black320x320" (c.) copy that file to your device then tap it. Note: "launch manager" is simple but very powerful software. It's not just about new SMS shortcut but rather all shortcuts you want! 2. Assign taskmanager to button for 1-click access because the default in i780 requires you to long-press "OK" button which takes long and annoying. (a.) You download AE Button Plus at "http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php" What it does? it simply lets you do anything to any hardware button in your device. You can even assign separate functionality to single-click, double-click, long-press, and even triple click! Quickly toggle between d-pad and mouse-mode. You didn't ask for it but it's a mortal sin for i780 owners not to use it. (a.) Download it "http://www.mysamsungepix.com/applications/utili­ties/chgfingermouse/" (b.) Since you already have AE-Buttons-Plus, just assign chgfingermouse to any key (preferably the right-button above the red-button.) You can locate chgfingermouse.exe file inside "program files" in the main storage.Then pressing the assiged button will quickly switch between dpad and mouse. very handy. 4. Typing in i780 qwerty easier and faster- You also didn't ask for this but lets admit it; i780 qwerty is hard to press are so tiny for most thumbs. (a.) Solution: just download MagikBlite at "http://www.mobiion.com/magikblite.html" (b.) Make sure you assign the i780 layout(just mail me if u can't find it), then activate it, then typing is very satisfying because u no longer need to press shift or caps. How it works? double-click will output capital capital, while press-and-hold will output the alternate character. More tips next time. That's all for now. (a.) first is speed! when i'm in a hurry and i need to immediately take notes of ideas that come in a flash. Quickly access calendar or quickly reply sms to someone while i'm no the go. for example in my i780 I created direct shortcut to New SMS and it launches in just 1 second. Try it in P1i and time how many seconds you can start typing a new SMS. Office apps like word and excel feels like very light apps that I can launch instantly even if they r not yet in memory. I think WM is also more memory efficient infact I already opened all my favorite apps and i still have 60mb free RAM. BTW there's around 85MB free RAM at boot. (b.) Second is control. IMO a high usability device has these 5 basic operations that must be within thumb reach. 1 options: no problem with both i780 and p1i 2 home or standby button: Quickly accessible in i780 while in P1i it's located at the left-side and u have to long-press it meaning you have to reposition your hand. 3 close or back key: Quickly accessible in i780 while in p1i you have to extend your thumb to the top corner of the screen or else you have to reposition your hand again to press the left-side hardware button. 4 taskmanager: Quickly accessible in i780. I mapped it to a hardware key nearest to my thumb where I can launch with single press. in P1i there's no direct method. the closest is mapping it to right-side hardware key but it needs long-press that can become hard when done often. 5 start menu: the advantage of this that I can quickly run settings, connection or any program without minimizing the current app. There's a dedicated button in i780 but in P1i you have to extend your thumb again to the top corner of the screen. Maybe those additional useful buttons are not big deal to you but in my case I use them much often to keep up with the i780 speed! P1i is slow anyway so maybe you don't need them as much as i do. Note that i780 is not that user-friendly by default. Infact i think the default setup is bad. You have to manually tweak it, cook it, and install all the right utilities before it becomes the most usable device on earth. Don't get me wrong because i think P1i is also a very good device I love it though it is hampered by slow speed.

Yes! the fast 624mhz processor is capable. I was even surprized that it played my 720x480 video usng coreplayer 1.3 even without re-encoding. Although I advice you to re-encode it to i780 native 320x320 at mp4 H.264 so not to waste extra processing and storage space but still retain 100% thesame quality. Use coreplayer 1.3 to play it and always zoom the video to "fill the whole screen" (no black borders). It will crop the left and right portion to utilize the whole full square screen but believe me I tried it and it will provide the best experience.

@rei I also came from P1i so here r the new things I experienced with i780: 1 SPEED i780: The 624mhz processor of i780 is way so much faster than 200mhz of P1i and it makes a lot of difference in overall experience. 2 NAVIGATION BUTTONS i780: As you can see, i780 has additional buttons up front like optical pad, context keys and phone keys. You can quickly launch task-manager, go to standby screen or close apps easily with the tip of you finger. P1i has none of these. Also, I already got used to the mouse of i780 and I find it so useful that I can no longer live without it. I installed chfingermouse and mapped it to a hardware key to quickly toggle between 4-way pad and mouse. 3 SOFTWARE AVAILABITITY i780: WM of i780 thousands of softwares available to choose while p1i uses UIQ3 which as far fewer softwares and is already declared dead. Although I should note that the few UIQ3 softwares available to P1i are all quality softwares and should be enough for your needs. 4. FLEXIBILITY i780: WM is just like desktop PC "my documents", "program files", "windows", "start menu" are all in their respective places. Also useful is that you can long-press an item to display a context-menu just like right-mouse-click on PC. You can tweak the registry or install 3rd party softwares to make it even more flexible like "launch manager" to quickly launch any app from any screen and "MagikB" to make typing so much easier. 5 MESSAGING and CONTACTS i780: i780 has threaded messaging to easily follow through a conversation. In inbox you can immediately type anything on the keyboard to quickly look-up any word it contains. In contacts you can immediately type (A L) to search (Angel Locsin) and (Luke Angeles). Note: you can make a shortcut to quickly launch "New SMS" in i780. What I miss? 1 CAMERA P1i: P1i has better 3.2mp camera with flash. 2 KEYBOARD P1i: I'm a fan of the ease of rocker keyboard of P1i although I already adjusted to the i780 keyboard now and i already instaled "MagikB" to make typing a lot easier. 3 VOLUME CONTROL P1i: P1i has separate volume control for phone, messaging, alarm, multimedia, etc and I miss it a lot!! 4 SENDING TXT PERSISTENCE P1i: In low signals most Phones like P1i continue to send the SMS several times until successful before giving up. In WM it will immediately notify a sending failure after an unsuccessful first try. These are just my personal view. I know there more things do differentiate the two

With regards to the utube question. There is actually a utube application for this phone. This is why you cannot view it as a standard application. The easiest to find any applications for this phone is on www.thepiratebay.net search for ppc apps and there is a selectable torrent with 235 software applications for this phone. the nice part is that you can select to only download one or many applications you want. thanks

The i780 is a nice piece of hardware, I've had mine since October. The phone never freezes, the phone is fast due to its powerful processor and navigating the phone using a combination of the track pad and touch screen is just a breeze. If you are thinking of buying a cheap, powerful, fully featured handset stop thinking and go get yourself one. Just have a minor problem...my phone's wifi cannot connect to encrypted wifi routers but can connect to free public wifi spots. Any solutions would be much appreciated

you have to change the setting. go to setting-connection, tap di icon connection. add a new modem connection. enter a name for my connection, select a modem: cellular line gprs. and you have to edit the access point name, password and proxy server. different sim card has different proxy server. so you have tofind out the proxy number. you can check iton internet. goodluck.

it depends to what u need, samsung i780 is a great phone, i bought this phone last december. if u compare to eten glofish m810 is at the ram. i780 has 128 mb ram and the optical trackpad is really amazing. i can use my phone only with one hand, m810 only has 64 mb. but m810 has the auto focus on the camera. m810 use sliding keyboard u have to use 2 hands to type. and it'smore expensive. if i were u i'll buy samsung i780.

i780 vs E71?? there is no contest i780 wins with major blows. i780 has bigger screen while E71 screen is so small. i780 screen has higher res 320x320 screen while E71 has only 240x320. Lastly, i780 has touchscreen with stylus and it also got mouse while E71 has none.

While in WINTERFACE, you can press the RED(hang) hardware button to go to standby screen. just assign a shortcut to go back to winterface easily. though winterface is great, fast, usable & lovely, i personally prefer "launch manager by fanasticbytes". I'll post all the very usefull apps for i780 here tomorrow.

Hi, I installed the trial version of WINTERFACE by VITO, to be precise "Communication Suite" which will give a Package 1. Winterface Mobile Shell 2. Contact Manager 3. SMS Text Messenger 4. OnScreen Keyboard Everything is great! But I have a small problem. I use this phone mainly for my official use - Outlook email, Excel, Word,..... Sine the phone is configured with my Mail Server, it gets locked if in not use for 5min. So a numeric password is required to unlock. Since Wwinterface is installed, I'm facing following issues (90% of the time): 1. Winterface screen is on top of the authentication screen, so I cannot enter the Password to unlock or Switch off the mobile 2. If the authentication screen comes on top pf Winterface, Touch interface does not work (QWERTY Keypad cannot be used for entering the password) Continuation of the second problem is, in this situation even if I receive a call of SMS, I cannot attend to it or open the message. Touch screen is no more usable. So, I need to remove the battery to switch off the phone, evern Power key does not work. Any suggestions from the experts here will help me a lot. Contact Manager, SMS Text Messenger, OnScreen Keyboard are working great. Thanks in advance.

Here's even more detailed step for 6.1 upgrade including activesync link. This firmware works for southeast asian. 1. Download ActiveSync 4.5 from the link below & install: 2. Download Samsung Modem Drivers from the link below then install: Vista: XP: 3. Download the following firmware installer but DON'T install yet: Vista: XP: 4. Restart PC! and test ActiveSync if it can successfully connect to your device and you can backup your phonebook and important files if you want. 5. Fully charge your phone! and if possible Hard reset it to avoid conflicts (by a. simultaneously press green and red buttons. b. keep pressing them then also press the power-button at the top. c. release the power-button then you can read instructions on the screen to press spacebar to format it. 6. Finally, install the firmware installer. it will only take just 10 minutes. then your done! NOTE: it will not just update to WM6.1 but also update to the latest firmware PDXHL2! enjoy!

My i780 isn't what I expected. When recieving multiple text messages at a time the alert ring stops going off. I have to reset my phone to get it to go on again. I reset my phone atleast 5-10 times a day because the ringer and message alerts don't go off. How can I fix this problem?

To disable automatic connection to internet, change your internet connections to My Work Network instead of My ISP (myglobe internet) or My WAP Network (myglobe gprs). You can do that by going to settings > connections > advanced > select networks.

For those who want to have metro manila gps map for i780, there are 2 softwares to choose from. There is Garmin Mobile XT and Mapking 2007. I've used both but I prefer using Garmin coz it is more updated and its not just metro manila map but it is a Philippine map but in the provinces, only major roads are available. Meanwhile, mapking only has metro manila map and it is less updated.

Good day all. I have recently purchased the SGH i780 and I love it! Battery life pretty ok, mail synchronization: perfect. However, I do have some questions: 1. Can anyone explain how to send msgs to multiple contacts? Right now am selecting them one for one. 2. I always buy Samsung phones and I use my call manager to manage my call summaries to control my usage. I can't seem to find this option with the i780! 3. Usually, with all my Samsungs, I can lock my messages or call details or phone bock with a password to prevent other from reading my private msgs, this neither I can't seem to find with the i780. When I bought my phone in Shangri-la, the store had no leather case for sale, so I bought GOLA black pouch type soft case, I am using it till now since it has a lot of pockets where I can put my things. You can check greenhills or ebay.ph for local sellers of i780 leather cases. BTW, what GPS software are you running?

I was looking for i780 cases in Manila for some time, not much available, so I started trying out cases for other models. I found out that most (not all) cases made for Ipod will accomodate the i780. I mistakenly ended up with a leather one that fully envolopes my phone, plus there is a cover with magnet. I would probably have been happy with one with an open face so that when I flip open the cover I can use the phone already. The only other quirk is that I got one with an iphone logo, so I look like an iphone owner wannabe, which I am not. I would have bought a cheaper, softer and more simple case, but the store only had green and had a bold iphone logo (again). TTFN Arvin

Hi bro! I used Garmin on my i780 and the layout was ok - on full screen. If it covers your country i recommend Igo8 software. Very fast, finds satellites in 20 secs without gps in the open and has a better guidance then Garmin. Try it:) Regards!

Hi all, I have upgraded my mobile to PDXHL2 and everything works fine (my i780 has Eng and arabic Keyboard). My problem in the keyboard!!! I have the mail symbol on the keyboard if I press it; it will show as GPS shortcut (in other country)...anyway next to this botton is "." and "!" botton if I press it when writing it will open the mail box/sms and I can't find the dot "." botton!!! in the left of the "0" botton I have "AB" which it should be used to switch between the langauge (It needs for my case Arabic installation) Sorry for my long message but just want to change the keyboard back like before Thx

I'm using Globe, but as far as I know, the settings should have been automatic, when you select the network provider manually (or automatic). All settings should have been automatically sent to the phone.

It's a rather good terminal for a e-mail user that also wants to keep categorized contacts. The only bad things to mention after 7 months using it: - proprietary USB cable, you cannot simply borrow one universal one - i prefer using a 4 way control button to the built-in optical trackpad. It's when you're in a hurry when it annoys one most. - it's not annoyingly slow, be it could be faster

you have to backup everything first, all files will be lost, if you hard reset, the phone will be back on the initial stage, when you first bought it.

hi..am aint Philippine but experienced ur situations. u need to to configure the connections settings. there is a specific settings must be done..or contact ur network operator `SMART', they will guide u. good luck. i780 is a perfect ever mobile!

Each battery should last a day - at least with all functions (WiFi, 3G, GPS, camera, Video, etc.) being used for 30 minutes. There's no official software to upgrade WM. But there are modded software to upgrade the eBoot+PDA+Phone version/ROM. Go google. I'm holding eBoot+Phone = PBVHK1 and PDA=PMSHL1. The last two characters determine the latest ROM you have. H1 and below is WM6.0 while H5 and above holds WM6.1

Hi, I can't seem to find that particular setting. I searched even the help function. Anyway, I remember that during installation the alignment of screen is adjusted, not the scroll speed (well, not that I can remember). Last option, try to backup everything (I use SPB Backup) and do a hard reset again to check if there was a scroll setting you missed during installation. Sorry if I'm of no help. I really can't find that option. =(

The thing is that only one tap seems to enable hi-speed scrolling on my unit and if i want to open a file/folder/sms i have to hold down the stylus to open it (one tap only makes nothing at all or enables scrolling) I did a hard reset and i remember there was an option in the beginning of install but i guess i picked the wrong one:) Thanx for the help

Hi Tommyboy7, i had a hard time translating the question, hehehe, anyway, ill try to answer: a menu will pop up when you hold down the center button or when you tap the screen and hold it for a few seconds (same function as right click on pc mouse). However, I don't think we can set what the menu will include. We might need to install a third party software for that.

I believe Philippine Map is available on MapKingR12, however, the application doesn't fit the screen of i780, hence, it doesn't display correctly. =(

Hi! You can remove Garmin by uninstalling it in settings/remove programs. I didn't uninstall it but am not using it so no problem there. Regarding Igo8 the only thing i can tell you - you can either buy it or google for alternatives:) Regards!

I've had the problem also in the beginning... be sure active sync is set on manually, if you have fring installed in connection manager / settings select "always ask" don't open internet explorer or Opera unless you are sure you want a connection... if a program needs a connection he will choose the best available: wifi, bluetooth, gprs or hspda... (in that order) so put everything on manually...

Hi, I'm not sure if we can permanently disable the GPRS connection. Everytime my unit tries to connect via GPRS, a balloon prompts on the top side of my unit and I immediately hit CANCEL button. Or, you may opt to go to Wireless Manager >> Menu >> Disconnect Cellular Data, this will disconnect the GPRS connection without turning your phone off. Hope this helps. ^_^

Hi, try to manually enhance the color of your wallpaper using your pc (connect the i780 to your pc using the data cable). Unless you want to install a third party software to correct your images.

Hi, thanks so much for all your help, got the bluetooth working, I tried sending data to another phone - got no problem. As to receiving, I found the problem, I wasn't able to set the settings to receive all incoming beams(Settings >> Connections tab >> Beam >> Receive all incoming beams). I didn't know I have to set this to receive files, my previous phone (Symbian) had no settings similar to this, once the BT is turned ON, sending and receiving of data was a breeze. ^_^ Anyway, thank you very much for all the trouble. ^_^ Godbless Tommyboy7. ^_^

I am looking for a PDA phone. Saw this phone features and think that it is worth for its price. Currently it is selling at RM1500. (About USD450) Wonder will the price be dropping further since it has been in the market for quite some time. Yes, you can send to other phones and laptops. i had that inittial problem with mine, but once i sorted out the bluetooth settings it's all groovy now

Hmm..i must say i don't use the hardware keyboard very much since i installed spb keyboard with feedback and can type very well with it since you can expand it to cover the whole screen. Otherwise the keys are quite small but you can get used to it i suppose. It's a matter of preference, best would be if you go in the store and try them both together and see how it feels. Regards!

Hi mate! First happy new year to all (regardless of the phone you're using hahaha) No to your question. I'm using the i780 for more than half a year. I can tell you it hasn't let me down in any sense (performance, battery life, connectivity..) But i must also point that not everythings that shines is gold. Windows mobile is the real issue. While when you customize it, it can become your best companion, if you're a newbie it can make you very nervous. Let me explain. If you buy e63 or e71 you will probably have no surprises and can use it instantly. But with Windows you need third party software to make some things working as they should. It's hard to advice between Symbian and WM because they are very different in core. I went from Nokia to WM because i was fed up with their interface and hardly any options to customize. With WN you can customize everything. So if you are willing to learn with WM and pimp it to your liking than i780 is for you. Otherwise if you wouldn't like to spend time customizing and would just like to use the device from the 1st day as it is go 4 Nokia. Cheers!

Hi all, I read below that youtube videos arent a prob. however, when I go to the youtube site on my i780 and try to open something: I wait for about 15 seconds and then an error message pops up saying "unable to play file" I have tried youtube in both IE and opera but neither works. I have also tried m.youtube.com........ that doesnt work either. I'm connecting over wifi because i dont bother with dataplans. Are there settings i need to change or do I need to download a whole new program? HELP! (plz) thanks

I did reinstall ActiveSync on the laptop a few times already and never added new programs to my laptop since I added ActiveSync to it, I only add new programs to my desktop. I have Kaspersky on both (if that helps anything to give you more info). Reinstalling Windows...indeed a nightmare but not too bad since I don't have alot of programs running on my laptop anyway. You're sure it couldn't be anything else?

Hi! Well, since the problem is hardly identifiable it's hard to figure out what the issue is. You need someone who understands computers to look at it, otherwise it will be difficult. I would backup the data and reinstall:) Regards!

Looks like something is corrupted on your notebook. Some software is conflicting with active sync. Maybe you should try reinstall active-sync and the device..If that doesn't help maybe outlook is making trouble. But it could be anything. You won't like what i'm about to tell you, but there's only one procedure that will make it work 4 sure aka reinstall windows...If you're a heavy business user that's like a suicide:)i know...Hope you solve the issue:=)

I can't seem to sync my phone with my laptop anymore. It used to sync perfect for almost a year but no matter what I do now I can't get it to sync anymore? Oh i almost forgot....with Nokia u don't get the touch experience...that was the final thing that made me go for i780...because i really got tired of Symbian - new phone that looks exactly like the old one (from the software point of view). But for some people thats exactly what they want - a new improved device with the software that doesn't hide any surprises:))) Cheers!

Haven't used e71, so i will only focus on your questions regarding i780:) 1) bulk messages - you will have to explain what do you mean by that:( 2) there are several backup options available for wm. I use Samsung's Mits, but i have noticed that it doesn't backup calendar (contacts, messages, photo id's etc is all in) 3) battery life is great - you'll hear a lot of praise for that one:) 4) about the keys - well you could say they are a bit hard but that's a matter of preference... Main thing that you should focus on is either you will have a symbian or windows mobile phone. Because those are really the only major differences. If it's your first wm phone i would be careful since windows mobile requires quite a while to get to know, but it pays off later since you can customize every single thing....on the other hand Nokia is also solid & powerful business device but is hardly customizable...At the end it's again only matter of preference and what you expect from the device...I was on the same roll and went for i780:)Cheers!

Hi! Sorry, have to dissapoint u there, it's a known bug. I also have that problem....It will not connect to msn with wi-fi. I heard there are some workarounds there but i never actually got a solution for the issue. They said that the new version of the phone should have that resolved:) but obviously it's still around. Damn - i can not believe it. Definitely something wrong either with the unit or battery pack. Try replacing the battery, or maybe the charger is malfunctioning and not charging the battery properly. Getting a spare battery or charger will not set you back for a lot of money but could solve your problems. Or you can try with the replacement since Samsung states 400h stand-by time and 7 hours talk time - neither of those goes with your unit. Regards!

Hi! I'm really clueless why your battery lasts only one day or not even that. I charged mine for 20 hours initially and they were good from the beginning. Now i get about 3 days with quite a bit of calling, tweaking and sms-ing + wi-fi. If u don't use 3g maybe it's better to switch it off (phone settings under band selection). Otherwise only bluetooth, wi-fi and gps could drain it quickly + if the reception is somewhere bad it's also not good for the battery performance. Maybe there's something wrong with the unit or the battery itself. I also use heavy power save settings (screen on minumum, keyboard lights up only after 8pm, 1 minute screen turn-off interval). Maybe you should try those settings and report back how it goes. I'm really suprised because almost everybody reports that it's quite impossible to drain this in one day:)Regards!

u share same thinking of battery solution with mine, but we cant find them come out battery more then 1500Mah. sadly to say the branded manufacturer for WM HP never been trying to improve their batterylife for their product.. only China HP have initiative to come out with "acceptable" batterylife for handphone user. China hp come with two battery, each battery have 3600Mah, means actually have abt 20 days of standy per battery charge. my friends use it to watch tv(china hp got TV reception) 1-2 hours per day and the hp still can last more then 1 week. some may claims that 3600mah battery will looks like a brick in size...suprisingly, the size is just abt 2-3MM thicker then Sony ericson standard K series battery size. Now the things happen is, those so called a bc bisness ppl need carrying with 1-2 battery with charge per day because they are using a slowmotion WM handphone produced by most branded hphone name, they need keep focus their eyes on the battery level b4 talk, in talking, after talk and every few hours so that they can "organise better" a gud joke to laugh...but cant c at user face!!

Hi! The speaker on my unit is not so loud either, so it's probably like that with i780:( Battery is really good - that is one of the best on pda's as reported by many users and almost impossible to drain in a day. If u have trouble with it maybe you have some stuff turned on that drains it heavily (constantly turned on bluetooth, gps, wi-fi and 3g if coverage is bad can drain any unit very fast). My experience is that it's lasting very very long:) and i got 2 of them and a separate charger in retail package:))) About wm6.1 - Samsung ate their promise there and even if they have promised the update for i780 to be available that hasn't and will not happend. There are cooked rom's available but i wouldn't recommend it. It's strange because the new units are shipped with 6.1 rom so it's hard to understand why an update is not available. Hope it helps! Hi! Well, windows mobile is alltogether a bit strange and i wouldn't be suprised if that's really so how u wrote. I learned that for some tasks that other os' s have solutions out of the box, third party apps have to pull windows mobile out of trouble. That is ofcourse not good - but we have to face that wm looks like windows 98 and that Microsoft is putting less & less effort in developing wm (maybe i'm wrong and wm7 will make a huge difference but i doubt it). So to me as long as i'm on wm, third party apps are heavens sent and they make my life a lot easier. Also some vendors of the devices know that and they are developing their own today screens to cover up the look of windows mobile:)

Hi! I use 8gb microsd without problems. It supports 16gb but you should be carefull, since it may depend on the manufacturer. I saw 16gb working on this unit, maybe you should try it out first if you have that possibility. But can 100% confirm 8gb is working (the manufacturer is Sandisk in my case) Regards!

Both good, similar specs..you can compare, here are some great reviews at gsmarena.....you can't miss with either, one has windows mobile and the other symbian, they are both business class so it's a matter of preference...if it's your first windows mobile it will take a while to adjust and a bit of tweaking of the device to make it yours (i780), on the other hand Nokia's unit has a better screen and a better camera....)and is quite a solid built device...I choose a i780 between those too, but only because i was fed up with Symbian and wanted something different...little did i know that windows mobile is quite an adventure:))) but i'm not sorry:)Regards!

Good phone. I have installed Garmin Xt, with beautiful capture results. Useful PDA otherwise, to the expected Win Mobile, 6.0, limitations of course. The phone excels in E mail, GPS.and Battery endurance.

I think windows natively doesn't support multiple sms threading (iphone also doesn't for that matter:) You need a special application for this and you have many sms management applications out there (vito sms chat can do this for example) Hope it helps, If anyone found a workaround in Windows aka not selecting 20 users manually in the field please let me know:)))Regards!

Hi! I'm fine thank you! Battery life for me is excelllent (2-3 days) so no problem there (many users reported excellent battery life even on heavy usage). If the battery life is not so good there are several reasons(maybe the device is switching between 3g and 2g, bluetooth, wi-fi and gps also drain the battery a lot). If u use it 4 calls and sms-ing you should be able to get through 2 days, U can use micro sd card - i use 8gb and works fine. About apps - free apps are a biggy. U have a few like pointui, pocketcm, but the best appas are not for free. Check www.handster.com for example.Regards!

Well, i had the problem with ie since it wouldn't connect to wi-fi but only gprs. After hard reset that was settled, but i sticked with Opera which is a much better browser (especially v.9.5). So i wouldn't worry about it:) Regards!

well..i never encountered that problem. My unit works right away. I have 8gb microsd so that's not the problem. Maybe you have a conflicting software on it. If it bothers you very much try to backup your entire unit and then do a hard reset. It solved a couple of my problems right away! But please backup your phone first:)as it will delete all of the units internal memory:) Regards!

Hi! The gps button is there only to trigger the software which triggers the receiver. If you don't get a lock you should wait and turn on the a-gps (enhanced gps on i780). With my Garmin it can take up to 20 minutes to get a lock on the satelittes, but i ditched it because Igo8 can do the same in 20 seconds. So it's a matter of software choice. Regards!

Hi! I believe that wm doesn't support that but there is an application that can do just that. It's called Ringo Mobile. The latest version is 1.4 i believe. Check that out and you should have no problems:) Regards!

Bad news, this particular model is prone to a defect that renders the antenna useless at the hardware level. I've been using mine for just over 4 months and now it no longer connects! Wifi and Bluetooth still work fine.. guess you can say it is now an itouch equivalent! ugh! Since my model originally came from Singapore, I have to send it back there for service. It is too bad because this phone was amazing.

Regards! Hard to say mate, i've never used Atom neither had it in my hands so it's your choice...It has more user memory, but less ram. Otherwise they seem to be in the same league with gadgets (except Atom lacks gps as far as i know, which is quite an important feature i would say). Maybe the decisive factor is how either one feels in your hands and ofcourse the price. I780 is quite reasonably priced in our country. Good luck:)))

My question is, is this the correct processor, b'cos I had read in some of the reviews that i780 has Maxvell XScale 624MHz processor (Intel processor division bought by Maxwell). Why is that there is a difference? Are both the processors equivalent or different? 2. Issue with E-mail in Messaging: Goto Messaging --> New E-Mail account, setup any personal email account (Ex: Gmail). Setup works fine but the problem is when we set the email accont here, the mails are downloaded only when we connected via WiFi (i.e., it does not download mails via GPRS). Why? And if we o through Internet Explorer it works fine with both WiFi and GPRS. Also, If the email account is from Microsoft outlook it downloads correctly on selecting 'Send/Receive' when connected via GPRS (Active Sync and Send/Receive). I'm from India and I'm using Airtel network. Has any one encountered this issue and how to rectify it. Thanks in advance.

The display is ok - but strong sunlight gets it (like all windows mobile devices), battery is great (in my country you get 2 of those in the retail package)..the camera is as it can be with 2 mpix..You should try it in store to see how it feels, the specs are great still after one year. It hasn't dissapointed me so far:) but if you like bigger screen you might be dissapointed. Regards!

About divx - just install core player (i think the latest version is 1.25) and you can play divx content without installing any codecs....about the games - well i haven't really found any free ones since i use only the ones from spb, but try � www.handster.com ,:)))) Regards!

Hi all, I've been using the i780 since May this year and it's been awesome so far. All the Windows Mobile based applications i've run works. the only thing is that it hangs at times between calls, which is normal since WM5. My previous Atom Life and iPAQ also hanged when you try answering another call after hanging up on one. On the whole this is a very powerful phone, with divX installed I can watch movies on the go. Battery life is the best I've ever had (other others were all needing a recharge everyday). Great phone to buy but the looks kinda wears off after a while.

Hi! symantec, avira, kaspersky, f-secure, airscanner and bitdefender have their own versions of antivirus software for mobile. Check one of those. If you ask me you don't need one. I've installed all the possible software and have no problem. It will end up slowing your device...But if you need it try it out:)Regards!

Hi! 1) sure you can remove Samsung mobile navigator but then you'll have an empty space there which doesn't contribute a lot to the already awful Samsung Today plug-in. My advice - lose that and get Spb Mobile Shell-you get a completely different touch friendly device with that software. It's worth it, but try trial first:) 2) I don't have a problem with wi-fi, could you try different spots and report back if it's discpnnecting on all of them. Maybe there's a problem with your router/internet connection:) Regards!

Hi! Battery performance is great (2-3 days with some wi-fi, gps, a lot of calls and sms, games etc..). Since you get two batteries (at least in my country) and a separate charger you should be able to get through the whole week:)) The phone doesn't hang a lot, but obvously it depends on the software you install on it. I have installed more than 50 progs but the unit only crashed when i used one application (removed it and now it's ok). You have to be prepared for a crash or two in a month though (windows and all). Otherwise it's working great:))) Regards!

Extra Tips

Please remember that to run any software smoothly in i780 just close all application in (Task Manager) or by pressing OK button for 2~ seconds and close all before running any software/application :)

yes, it's supposed to be Black Jack III in USA, but the specs are still a mystery, could be lacking some stuff from i780, or it could get some additional stuff for us market.

For mms it's imperative that you have your operator settings correct. In our country the operator sends the sms with all the settings and you just press ok and they automatically set your gprs account. Otherwise manual install is in order. I don't have any problems with mms - works smooth everytime. Hope it helps! Regards!

Hi Tommy, After i install the Skype for i780, it can not connect to the internet by using GPRS, it can connect only with Wifi or 3G. So do you have any Skype program which can use with GPRS ? Thanks.

you can activate arabic by going to samsung service center they will install a very tiny program that activates arabic in 10 mins only and for free

hi, I am getting an impression i780 runs on a 612Mhz processor. . .mine LG KS20 runs on a 400 Mhz processor and my battery is drained by 65% after continuous talk time of ( 1hour and the half;) has any here tested the claim of the talk time on this phone. Samsung main claims 8 hours or so I think; lastly; where does it says a 612Mhz processor when the processor's speed is not even listed on the detailed specs on Samsung website. M thinking of jumping into this i780 bandwagon. all evaluations here has been appreciated

If you can't connect on the net with 3g you have to check your provider settings. Maybe you should try to connect with Opera. I had the problem that IE wouldn't connect to wi-fi (chosing gprs instead) but with Opera no problems. If you can't connect neither with 3g nor with wi-fi i would first check settings and then ask you retailer for help. It must connect either with gprs or 3g or wi-fi...Regards!

I wonder if anyone has a remedy for this weird problem when a Samsung SGH i780 used with properly paired with Stereo Bluetooth (Bluetrek ST1) with both profiles namely; Hands Free and Stereo Headset active. The problem: All incoming calls have to answered by headset answer button as the pre-set �Auto Answer� on the phone does not function. The �Auto Answer� only works when the �Wired Stereo Headset� is plugged in. I have done some research on this problem via the web and it seems to be a problem with the �Omnia� as well. Any one out there experience the same problem or have a solution please. It might be a "LATENT DEFECT" Thanks in advance to all replies.

Windows Mobile in general does NOT support weird languages (right to left) like Hebrew or Arabic.

Some proggy's i discovered lately and work like a charm on i780 1) thumbcal (replaces akward calendar with cool one with sliding option - very nice indeed) 2) spb keyboard 4 - at last a worthy keyboard (as featured on board with Omnia) 3) 1-Calc - scientific replacement for my calculator which doesn't work out of the box??? 4) Inesoft Phone 4 (superb dialer, called id and profile manager - tatally replaces awfull windows calling interface....with big red and green buttons it's really what i've been looking for..after install just press the green button on i780) All the software is running on top of spb mobile shell - so cheers to that:) you might also check out the Iconsoft Phone Extension, but with my unit it doesn't seem to work.. To Jon The i780 does heat up with applications running. Remember, you have a 612MHz processor running. Make sure that all programs are closed, hold in the home key for about 2 seconds and the task manager will open, close all programs. This will free up memory and load on the processor. Also, GPS will drain your battery very quick and cause excessive heat.

To Netman I also thought my GPS was malfuntioning as it never got signal. I have since learnt that the GPS can take 15 - 20 minutes to log on. Leave it running and wait.

To Tiyok To use your phone as a Modem, go into the menu, select Internet sharing then set it up as either USB or bluetooth (whatever your PC/Laptop supports). It will default your internet carrier to your current network provider, plugin cable and hit connect on the phone. Open the internet explorer on your PC and off you go.

Hi KENT!! If you want to download a DIVX/AVI/MPEG1 player, GOOGLE TCPMP Player and download. Mine works like a bomb. Then download the NEXT DIVX TO AVI converter. With this you would be able to convert DVD's to any playable file format (my personal favorite is MPEG1 as its the closest to VGA) and copy it onto your mem card of your phone. I have watched full length movies and the quality and playback is the smoothest I have ever seen on a phone.

ei anybody knows why i can not get even 1 signal out of five GPS signal indicator. it used to work before but it hangs while i was navigating. then after i power reset my phone,GPS didn't come up since then. i even tried to disable/enable GPS and set to factory default. still no changes, GPS is not working now. can anyone help??

Yes, it's a drag with many programs running underneath. I use spb pocket plus, it closes everything...Maybe you should try it. Regards!

welll.it's not that difficult..you need Gamin XT or Igo or TomTOm or Route66 software.. I use Garmin, then u need the maps for the software to work properly. Here's all the info you need Regards!

Strange....i've been only using the unit for about 3 months, but the signal and calling and sms are one of the best things about it. Maybe a faulty unit, have u tried hard reset, it could maybe solve your problem. If then you still have problems i would recommend replacing the unit...Regards!

hello... has anyone of you experienced having network detected but there's no outgoing or incoming messages or calls possible? I have been using this phone for almost 6 months now. Only recently, network signal goes on and off... tried to make calls or send txt messages but failed. If i use the sim on a different phone, i don't experience the same problem. If i use a different network sim on i780, it's working. Is this a unit problem? or some settings that i just need to adjust? help!
