Sagem MY G5 - User Reviews

  • i had this phone my ex boyfriend bought it me coz he was a cheapskate it looks like a toy phone!! how embarrasing

  • I've had one for two years now aswell - it's a good little phone, lol. Very robust, it's been dropped out of windows thrown around, kiked around the floor and dropped down a toilet and still works fine! It was amazing when I got it as phones with colour screens were quite expensive at the time and 50 was an amazing price. Took me ages to find one though - Went from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, Nottingham and Manchester! Bought one online in the end.

  • ive had this phone for 2 years now ahh embarrasin i no. but its time to say bye now i think. it has given me no trouble for the time and ive had it and for its time it was quite a good phone with lots of features considering it was only 50.

  • A stable phone. It may not seem user friendly at first but I was used to a nokia. It may look a bit silly the phone itself is solid. I switch back to it sometimes just for its uniqueness. THe only problem i had was that the ON button would almost respond to a feather touch and its started but the off button was the normal hold. It led to some annoying situations when the phone would turn off if you sat down. Overall a nice phone

  • can anyone tell me how to set fixed dialling so my daughter can only ring our number and emergency numbers?

  • It looks like a toy.

  • could someone plz tell me how to unlock my phone itz a my v-55 plz tnx

  • i really need to know if it is a gd phone to get for my birthday, if it reliable, fun and easy to use, so could you please help me, thankyou.

  • Poor phone for poor people :-)

  • gud little fone cannot compare it to a nokia 7210 etc but for its price it is a very well worth phone with great features i wud rate it at about 7-8/10

  • one good reliable phone but how do u use the infa red???????????

  • Thanks a lot Tony. I think it would make a great buy.

  • Vess, i wanted to know this also and asked on a French forum (only place it seemed anyone knew) and the answer was yes. There's a picture also which shows the two phones (myg5 and myx5) without their cover and they're basically identical.

  • Do you know if I can use MY X5 interchangeable covers on the MY G5 model?

  • But i need a orange card to download games. right ? What happens if i put my original SIM card in the phone. Can i play the game ? Anthony says no ?!

  • Games are saved on phone hardware, I think they are saved on FLASH memory, if you remove the SIM card, and then remove the battery, games are still there, FLASH memory does not need power to maintain its data.

  • i have a problem with my g5. i bought this phone just 1 months ago and already i'm facing terriblbe problems with it.only yesterday anytime i try to make a call it say's "supplementary service rejected" pls suggest possible solutions to this problem

  • Thanks. If i understand i must put the orange sim in the phone if i want to play games i downloaded with this sim ?? very complicated so i will sell the g5. very special phone if it only works good with orange. bad that there was no information at all on this or any other website.

  • the games are still there, but you will not be able to play them without the orange sim because when you try again to press and hold the 9 key with your original sim, it will not recognise the instruction. holding 9 basically takes you to the orange games service. the games are downloaded into their own specialized memory area (orange games service), away from other files such as ringtones & wallpapers, and the instruction to access this memory area is to press and hold the 9 key... i beleive only orange sims will recognise this instruction because holding 9 basically takes you to the "orange games" service. thats basically what it does at the end of the day. if you put in your oringal sim after downloading the game, and then try holding 9 you may find that nothing at all happens since your orignal sim was not programmed to recognise "orange games" service and will not recognise an instruction such as holding 9 key to take you there... but the game is still stored on the phone. if that is important to you i suggest you are far better off with java j2me games. go get yourself a sharp gx-10 and hook it up to vodafone live for some of the best java games available. i believe the games are downloaded into the same dynamic memory space and all files share that same memory space, meaning the above consideration would not be an issue.

  • Are the games in the phone when put back my original sim-card ??

  • you can only get downloadable games if you get yourself an ORANGE sim card. that's where all the downloadable games are... on the orange website you will find the SAGEM GAMES ZONE. you need an orange sim card first, because the phone is a joint production between orange and sagem. get yourself an orange Pay As You Go simcard which only costs 10-12, register it with orange, then go to the orange website for all the games and info on how to start downloading games directly to the phone... click on the SAGEM GAMES ZONE link here: if you already have an orange sim card (either contract or payg), just hold down the 9 key and it will take you directly to the orange games downloads section on your phone, where you can download games like kung fu legend, mission 3d and IF racing etc. the latest game i have just seen made available for download is space war. cheers.

  • @carlo: we need some downloadable games!!!! please

  • Ugly phone

  • dont know whre to buy !

  • somebody posted this one before if you want FREE download for sagem myg5 phone !! these is the sites you go to below, thanks. :>) (SpunkyMunky's website, very good) (A good site, with good downloads. More Midis than anything else.) (A valuable source of info, and downloads for the Sagem MYX-5) (Another good Sagem MYX-5 and MYG-5 group) (A French site with a good choice of stuff to download) (Seej's Sagem my-X5 and my-G5 website) (Another sagem user's website, he has just started it) (There's Some nice stuff here too) (A site created by sagem for sagem users, but it has very poor quality design and content in all honesty, best to avoid this website until they improve imo. i just put the link here so you know what/where it is) OTHER SITES: (If ever you are having any problems uploading files by Infra-red connection, check out Mike's own software for uploading to the phone instead, very good). (Another piece of alternative uploading software called myDiscover. also very good) (Free Palm software for your Sagem, it allows you to do loads of stuff by linking the IR port of a Palm to your Sagem MYX-5/MYG-5)

  • so Schnulli the idiot returns, this time calling himself Joke?? LOL! Schnulli the joke is on YOU matey! MUUUUHAAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHHHAHAAAAAA!!!!

  • cannot buy in HK. Only europe !

  • Whats the price in hongkong ??

  • I have had a sagem but i must say: NEVER AGAIN ! Buy Sony or Nokia or Motorola. TAhat are real phones !

  • Its only bad!

  • If you don't have buyed it as a Load a Game Version or your provider offers not downloadable games -> Sagem sucks. No Java, so you would be able to download games from everywhere, even as freeware. If you buy it you think it's cheap, but thr costs for games (if you would be able to get some) are much higher. Better buy next time a real phone :-))))

  • we need some downloadable games!!!! please

  • Ugly phone with crappy keypad

  • Great phone far better than any Nokia for the money. I used to have a 3020 and that far exceded a nokia 3310. They know their stuff.

  • the phone has t9, why don't you use it? actualy I also hate sagem's system it takes too long!! looks like an excelent phone though

  • Hello My name is mitri i am from Russia i have recenly bought this MYG-5. The only thing i hate about all Sagem phones is the messaging. You have to keep down the fucking button until you finally get to the letter you want. Is there a way you can change this?

  • Anthony, You seem to know a shit load about this phone... Do you have any idea when sagem will put the MYG-5 and the MY3088 on the official site....

  • Does anyone know if any new covers have been released for the phone? I'm getting one because it has loads of cool features, but I'm not too sure about it's childlike looks (i've got a gba to take care of that area :D)

  • Yes, it is very bick !!

  • It is the great phones in my opinion.

  • jim, no m8, i don't know where you can get the cable for that phone from. as i said i don't really know much about that phone. you're better off taking it back if you're not happy with it. get something that you'll be happier with... if you can i'd recommend you to get that Sagem MY-G5 back. you can get a data cable for the MY-G5 from the sagem online shop. it costs only 12 and delivery is free if you live in the UK: read the post i made below to Jo about how/where to get ringtones and wallpapers from. cheers m8.

  • im not happy at all with the piece of shit i bought anthony,i deleted all the pictures in the phone coz they were crap, now im left with a less than average looking phone,,do u know were i can get a usb cable no shop have it?

  • Im chosing between this and the philips 820e, any thoughts????

  • hello Jo, you are dead right, this is a cracking little phone. all it takes is a bit of searching around to find polyphonic ringtones sites... more and more sagem users are actually starting to create their OWN sagem websites specifically for these phones (myG5 and myX5). you will find things such as polyphonic ringtones, musical ringtones, wallpapers, sceensavers etc. and more and more files will be added to these sites in next to no time! remember that you first need to buy a DATA CABLE (12) and download some free UPLOADING SOFTWARE in order to start uploading ringtones & wallpapers etc to your phone. Get the sagem my-X5 data cable for 12 directly from the sagem online shop, it's the same one that is used for the sagem my-G5 too. it works the same for both models: (allow about 10-14 days for it to be deilvered to your house, and delivery is free.) Then you need to download the free Sagem My Pictures and Sounds uploading software from here: And once you have both of these items, you are now ready to start getting some free ringtones/wallpapers for your my-G5! GO TO THESE DOWNLOAD SITES: (SpunkyMunky's website, very good) (A good site, with good downloads. (Another piece of alternative uploading software called myDiscover. also very good) (Free Palm software for your Sagem, it allows you to do loads of stuff by linking the IR port of a Palm to your Sagem MYX-5/MYG-5) So there it is! you have more than enough info here now to start getting your own free polyphonic and musical ringtones, wallpapers, screensavers etc! and you can also check out my post below about how to create your own ringtones too if you want. there is a better guide on Seej's website too. check it all out, and have fun!! cheers Jo :) PS: Jim, i really think you would have been better off sticking to the my-G5 you know m8. but as long as YOU are happy with your choice, then that's cool m8. but the my-G5 is a *truly* fantastic phone, despite what certain people who do not know as much as they claim to might say. i think you have been badly misled m8, but never mind... next time just choose the phone that has all the things that YOU WANT, and you'll be ok. cheers m8. ;)

  • ive just got a myG5 and so far its pretty cool, but can anyone tell me a website to get some new polyphonic ringtones?I mean a proper website, not using WAP. Most of the sites Ive found dont seem to be compatible with Sagem, only nokia, and if they are, they never list the myg5 as a compatible fone. Thanks for the help!

  • anthony,my phone says19% picture album,1%in phone,76% games, but as for games there,s only 1 game and that was on the phone when i bought it....cheers

  • cheers anthony, what i can tell you is ,it says 96% memory used, ive found nowere that does ringtones for the philips fisio 825,i think i need a cable to hook up to my computer, is there any chance my pictures i got with the phone, are taking up all the memory? oh yeah i tried downloading a game from the net but its says i cannt download from that site t-mobile the site was called,i tried to download a 30 music demo ,that asked me for a code number, but there were no codes on the website, and it cost me 4.00 for the experiance, thanks for your help mate

  • Jim, i'm not too familiar with your Philips phone, but perhaps this might be useful: when you go into the menu screen that is for checking your phone's memory, look carefully at what the display actually says: if it simply says 4%, then it is likely that 4% is actually the amount of memory that your phone has USED UP so far, rather than the amount of memory REMAINING. (ie. your phone has probably only used up 4% of it's available memory so far). i cannot imagine why it would be reading 96% memory already used up if the phone is brand new. another way to check this is to try downloading things such as ringtones, wallpapers etc and if the phone accepts a few of them, then it is likely that as i said, 4% only signifies the amount of memory used up so far. but if the phone refuses to accept a few more ringtones and wallpapers etc, then you may well be right and the phone might have some kind of memory problem if it is brand new and there is nothing yet saved in the memory. if the phone refuses to accept any more ringtones, wallpapers etc, then the only other thing i can suggest which might or might not work is to take the battery off, leave it for 10 seconds and then reconnect. This should clear the cache of the phone's memory (as you may have stored too much information when looking at wap sites and thus not had enough memory to store other applications). But to bve honest, without knowing very much about your phone, in my opinion the most likely thing that has happened that i can think of is that you *might* have misinterpreted what the memory reading was actually telling you (ie. if it just shows 4% on the memory check screen, this probably means only 4% memory has been used up so far). I hope this helps m8, as i said i am not too familiar with your phone so this is the best i can offer. Cheers.

  • hey anthony do u have any info on the philips fisio 825,whether its any good or not? and could you tell me why i only had 4% memory on my phone when i bought it?

  • These ARE THE results Schnulli! what do think i have spent the time trying to explain to you?? it is not just words, these are ACTUAL results. surely you cannot be this dumb that you do not understand? i have taken time to explain to you how the performance level is far greater on MYG5 and yet you are still in your sad state of denial due to your obvious HATRED of sagem? please, just because you are a HATER of sagem, does not make this a bad phone. it is a fantastic phone at doing what it was built for. we can see how much HATE you have in your eyes just by the way you continue to deny the facts. you say: "Means to me ypou have to pay, because you cannot upload local from your PC, even WAP costs money, regarding which provider you are using (via GRPS ?)." If that is what you actually meant by PAY, then i agree, but why did you not just mention this before instead of beating about the bush? never mind. BUT when you talk of PAY (via WAP) do you REALLY know how much this involves before shouting your head off again??? let me now calculate it for you: The phone is on orange network. WAP connection on orange network to WAP sites on mobile internet costs 10p/min. game download takes no longer than 5 mins. BUT i don't think you have you ever heard of FastWAP from Sagem HAVE YOU Schnelli??? This phone has Sagem's unique FastWAP function built-in, which DRAMATICALLY speeds up downloads when using an ordinary WAP connection up to GPRS standard (without paying GPRS money!!!) OUCH OUCH! this means the game will be on your phone in next to no time and overall cost, no more than circa 20p per game, debited directly from your phone credit! SO! IS 20p/game REALLY TOO MUCH for you Schnelli?? LOL. what a joke. It is just the same thing as like on some networks you will have to pay 10p/min for voicemail retrieval meanwhile on T-Mobile it is free. there is no difference. less than 20p from your credit is peanuts my friend and if you cannot afford that then perhaps you should just stick to low-level phones instead of aspiring to buy expensive high-level phones like 7650... and remember that as i have said, free Java games are usually of lesser overall quality, and for the people that buy this phone, free games will DEFINITELY NOT be the main attraction... Remember that you can find bugs in many free Java J2me implementations. For example, if you quit a free Java game "suddenly" with a Nokia 7650 (the context is saved), and then launch another Java game, you have a blank screen until you re-launch the first game!!! Or if your download fails, you can have the name of the game appearing in the Java menu, but that is not the Jar but the Jad. very mish mash, users who are seeking a higher level of performance from thier mobile gaming than this will opt for the MYG5 which contains NONE of these flaws and also has superior security when the game is ExEn due to the fact that the game is not run locally and cannot corrupt the rest of your phone with bugs as in a normal Java phone. And as i said, you continually have the CHOICE of either option. do you want to be limited to: free Java games ONLY, that cost nothing, but are nowhere near the same quality as ExEn games and can be very bug-ridden + paid for Java games... OR for the price of 20p per free java game do you want the choice of ALL of the above AND a superior quality choice of ExEn games with better security and better graphics, gameplay, and brand recognition with well known games such as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon? i think the choice is quite obvious. if we stick to your "free games" option alone, users will be stuck with anonymous no-name brand games which are of a poorer quality and of which the vast majority will become extremely boring very quickly. and paid fpr Java J2me games also lack the quality of ExEn games. and on top that many free JAva games will contain bugs due being written by freelancers whose security and testing procedures are not as rigorous as a secure and closed environment like ExEn. Never forget: ExEn games is a COMPLETE PACKAGE, not just a technology as in the case of free Java games. basically the price you pay for this choice is 20p per free java game, which you may or MAY NEVER actually want to spend your money on in the first place, the CHOICE is always yours. you will never get this level of choice for gaming on a normal Java phone. NEVER. And Finally, when you talked about backup for your phone's memory on "other phones": 1. which other phones are these, and 2. is this PROM or FLASHRAM backup that you are referring to or is it a different kind of memory backup procedure? there are certain solutions that i am aware of for memory backup on the MYG5, but firstly i would like to be sure exactly what type you are talking about.

  • People don't mind about the technical background, they are interested in the results: Is this right or wrong : "The G5 has no chance to backup a Game. So when your memory goes small, you delete something. Download and PAY for a new game, not knowing, if it is good. Then you test the new and you are annoyed of the new game. You must delete it and DOWNLOAD and PAY for the old (AGAIN !) or another one. " Is this right or wrong : "The memory of the phone has a specific size and if you download games, maybe 1, maybe 4 (depending on how many wave-files you saved as ringtones) the phone could not store more." "There are plenty of Java J2me games out there as you yourself have already pointed out, and many of them are also freely available for direct download to your phone via a WAP connection." Means to me ypou have to pay, because you cannot upload local from your PC, even WAP costs money, regarding which provider you are using (via GRPS ?). You wan't tell me, that it is cheaper uploading games via WAP than copy it local from your PC to the phone. But i see: You are in love with this phone, even sagem is not convinced about it. Otherwise they would sell it in Europe or America or ...

  • schnulli my fisio 825 has full memory why ive not used it yet? do u know how i can get the memory back its used up 96%

  • Schnulli your words are getting easier and easier to misunderstand because you are not writing cohesively any more. you are now making error after error... First of all, we can agree that both the colour pallette and the graphical processor combine to improve the look of a game, BUT as i said before when it specifically comes to GAMES, without the GRAPHIC ENGINE you will not get more colours in the first place. you are confusing a mobile phone's standard colour displaying capabilities with a specific games console's (GBA) colour pallette, which can only be produced through the GBA's one and only graphics chip. you need to UNDERSTAND that both the ExEn chip and the J2ME VM are NOT the chips that determine a mobile phone's standard colour displaying capabilities. they are both merely JVM's (Java Virtual Machine's, also called VM for short), with ExEn being a Game API all of it's own. a seperate graphics chip within these phones (usually one made by companies like ARM) is actually the one which is in charge of determining just how many colours a phone is limtied to displaying. ExEn and J2me VM are merely JAVA-only chips which will only act/have any effect on JAVA Apps only (ie. Games), whenever those games are uploaded onto the phone, recognised, and run by the chips. for the rest of the time, those 2 chips do absolutely nothing towards how many colours a phone can display. at the same time, if a phone cannot display more than a certain number of colours due to it's inherrent limitations, the ExEn chip can improve this aspect substantially when it comes to playing GAMES as it will recognise and run a JAVA game, and produce a graphical acceleration impact on the game and on the phon'es display. The display of the phone when a game is being run, is essentially in the hands of the ExEn chip. in all other circumstances, the MAIN graphics chip of the phone resumes total control (limiting the phone to 256 colours on MYG5). and meanwhile, the standard Java J2me 1.0 chip which is on ALL current Java phones CANNOT do anything of the sort mentioned above, due to not possesing ANY Games specific API's whatsoever (only MIDP 2.0 has a Game API). i feel that is an issue you need to also understand. and now... on the issue of the Nokia 7650 and how its got so many colours etc etc., which in your eyes, you implied automatically means that Java games MUST be better or equal in quality to ExEn games, WELL DUH!!! how wrong can a man be Schnulli??? JUST HOW WRONG!! as you and i both know, the 7650 it a far higher-level spec phone than the MYG5 is, and that is reflected in the MASSIVE price difference between the 2 handsets. in normal use (making calls etc), it is a phone capable of displaying far more colours on screen than the MYG5 in normal use (via the same standard graphics chip that i mentioned above, ie. the ARM chip)... so these are 2 inherrently different phones for 2 different market sectors, priced for 2 different wallet sizes. One is very high-spec, the other is mid-level spec at best. so this makes me wonder why you are even comparing such a high-level phone with a mid-level phone?? What you probably do not even realise is that the VM inside the 7650 is still the same old GENERIC Java J2me MIDP 1.0 VM (MINUS any specific Game API like in MIDP 2.0). rememebr that MIDP 1.0 has NO Games API whatsover!!! It is generic!! if you were to stick an ExEn chip inside a phone of such high-spec as the 7650 right now, the difference that one chip alone would make to the graphical GAMING quality of the 7650 is immense. you forget that ExEN (v2, which is inside the MYG5) is already totally superior to even the Game API of J2ME MIDP 2.0 VM (and MIDP 2.0 phones are not even on the market yet!!!!, even though the standards for it have now been decided upon), not to mention the poor quality GENERIC MIDP 1.0 VM which is inside the 7650. An ExEn chip added inside a current standard 7650 would make the graphics of the GAMES look totally UNRECOGNISABLE to what they currently look like. if you think they look "good" at the moment, you haven't really seen anything Schnulli. the MIDP 1.0 VM curently inside the 7650 cannot do even half of the things the ExEn chip is capable of. In terms of mobile gaming, The ExEn chip is 30 times more powerful than the current VM inside the 7650. ExEn is a specific 3D Game API. ie. FAR FAR better than any GENERIC pretender like the J2me VM. so listen, you are totally wrong. you quoted a phone like the 7650 which on it's own (minus any JVM's in action), is already capable of displaying such a high number of colours and you used that as your justification for believing that Java J2me games are of the same or better quality than ExEn games??? LOL please, don't be a silly Schnulli!! try quoting a phone of similar comparison to the MYG5, not one which is already superior by default, such as the 7650. what you should be doing is finding me one which has the same amount of standard colours as the MYG5 (256), and then tell me if the games on those phones which still have the MIDP 1.0 VM inside are even anywhere near as good as the superior graphical prowess of the MYG5 with ExEn v2 inside. the fact is m8: whenever you have 2 phones with the same limitations as each other, the phone with the ExEn chip inside produces FAR superior results in terms of gaming output than the phone with the GENERIC J2me MIDP 1.0 VM inside. That is just the simple and undeniable fact m8! And Do not even try to quote the t300 either because that uses Mophun which is NOT a Java J2me MIDP 1.0 VM, and does not comply with the standards of the J2ME MIDP 2.0 Game API either, and is also nowhere near as popular as Java J2me or ExEn. And ExEn still beats it for quality to top it all off. For your information m8, ExEn is 30 TIMES more powerful than any Java J2me VM, when using the same testing criteria and operating conditions. the difference in quality is embarrassing to say the least... even now, if we take a phone as high-spec as the 7650, although it may have been built by nokia to be capable of displaying more colours than the MYG5 in "normal" circumstances (the 7650 has an ARM graphics chip inside), and to be generally FAR more higher-spec in terms of features than the MYG5, when it then comes to GAMES though, it cannot even do things such as 3D, sprite zooming, sprite flipping / mirroring, scrolling parallax, transparent cells of playfield, screen rotation, ray-casting (Wolfenstein-like) and soft keys, without the aid of another similarly POWERFUL Games-specific graphics accelerator such as WGE, simply because the only thing the 7650 has to work with is the very poor quality GENERIC MIDP 1.0 VM that comes embedded inside it at the manufacturing stage! LOL. that VM is simply not built for gaming, it is a jack of all trades VM and developers have just been scraping by with it m8!! but sure enough, they have already complained loudly about how crap it is for making great games, so why do you think the Java Community Process are now bringing out MIDP 2.0 with a specific Game API included in it this time??? JPC even asked In-fusio for their help and expertise on the matter!! LOL. Just put an ExEn (v2) chip inside a phone as high-tech as the 7650 and you'll soon see what true graphical GAMING quality is all about. It's just a pity for you, cos really you haven't even seen anything yet m8. ExEn can do ALL of those things mentioned above, and PLENTY more besides! This is the reason why you will not find a similar comparable phone as the MYG5 (in terms of same capabilities, colours, price etc) with as much quality as this when it comes to mobile game-phones. And another thing is: You are CONSTANTLY mixing up the ExEn service (where you pay a small amount) with the Java J2me service (where you do NOT NECESSARILY pay anything AT ALL whatsoever)... whichever option someone chooses, the phone can accept BOTH kinds of games due to it's DUAL capabilities which it seems i am constantly having to remind you of over and over again. The way you have structured your words makes it seem as though in your eyes, EVERYTIME you download ANY game onto the MYG5 you MUST pay, EVERY SINGLE TIME for a game regardless of whether it's ExEn or Java J2me? That is NOT true my friend. how many times must i explain this to you m8? The phone accepts ExEn AND Java J2me!!! NOT JUST ExEn!! Whoever wants free J2me games on the MYG5 can still get them! There are plenty of Java J2me games out there as you yourself have already pointed out, and many of them are also freely available for direct download to your phone via a WAP connection. in those circumstances, just as with any "normal" Java J2me phone, you PAY NOTHING m8! ZILCH! NADA! Do you understand this? it ain't too difficult, really!! Only if you make the decision to stick solely to ExEn games will you always pay (and yet the cost is only 1.50 per game for the first half of the game, 50p for every new level, and 10p if you want new weapons etc, THIS IS FREEDOM OF CHOICE! you can download the game and try out the levels to start off with, and once you complete them, YOU then choose if you want more or not. if so, you buy more levels, if not simple: you don't buy any more... and if you do choose to buy more levels all the way to the end of the game: the total cost of the full game is no more than any other Java game out there! that is why the ExEn system WORKS! on vodafone live meanwhile, Java J2ME games cost up to 5.00 per game IMMEDIATELY!! YOU GET NO CHOICE IN THE MATTER WHATSOEVER, IT'S 5.00 UP FRONT MATEY!! the game could be good, but the game could be absolutely AWFUL!!! But You will NEVER KNOW, until you spend your 5.00!! :( LOL! Pity for you.), and everyone is different as i keep mentioning to you, there is no one set rule that everybody must follow which is why it's good to have a choice. The MYG5 gives you that CHOICE! so hopefully you now understand because this is about the third or fourth time i am repeating myself. oh and by the way, there is now a Snapshot review of this MYG5 phone that you seem to love to hate so much, now over at Mobile Burn: HA! So now you can just admit that you do not like the phone and just leave it at that! It is a damn good phone but it simply doesn't suit YOUR own personal needs, that is all! Not every one is called Schnulli. Everyone is different. There are phones that you probably love that many others wouldn't be seen dead with. So give yourself a rest and quit harping on about it. Find something else to do in your life. There is simply NO POINT in you going ON, AND ON, AND ON, like ARISTON! You don't like it, then FINE!! end of story, No one forced you to buy! so just move on with your life now. GOODBYE!

  • schnulli can u help me again?i know i have the philips fisio, but it says ive used 96% memory but how could i ,i havent used the damn thing yet,i need your info dude,to solve this problem, thanks, another thing coz the memory is full it wont let me use the recorded memo

  • "you can upload as many as you wish". Thats not true for Java and ExEn. Perhaps you missunderstood my words. The memory of the phone has a specific size and if you download games, maybe 1, maybe 4 (depending on how many wave-files you saved as ringtones) the phone could not store more. Other phones could backup their memory to PC and you delete some stuff to free memory (knowing you could put it to the phone back again, whenever you want, WITHOUT PAYING for it). The G5 has no chance to backup a Game. So when your memory goes small, you delete something. Download and PAY for a new game, not knowing, if it is good. Then you test the new and you are annoyed of the new game. You must delete it and DOWNLOAD and PAY for the old (AGAIN !) or another one. Thats a great gaming phone for the provider, not for the user ! Okay, forgive me, i have a geforce 4 ti4600 configured at 256 colours ! Because 256 colours are great ! PS: The difference of a gameboy colour and a gameboy advance is also, that one has a passive 256 colours LCD and the other has a 16 Millions TFT. Which looks better? Its not only the graphics engine. If the Gameboy advance would have had 256 colours LCD display, do you think anyone would have buyed it ?Can't think so. Many colours is not all, but without many colours all games look like ten year old Gameboy colour games ...

  • Schnulli, you are thinking *too much* about COLOURS my friend. let me tell you this: it is not the NUMBER of colours possible that SIGNIFICANTLY improves the output quality of a game, it is the capability of the GRAPHIC ENGINE inside the device! Because ExEn is strictly a Game API, the ExEn chip (the VM) inside the phone is essentially a FAR FAR better graphic engine than the standard GENERIC Java J2me VM that comes with ordinary Java phones. that is what it's all about my friend. It is NOT the amount of colours you should be worrying about, it is the capability of the GRAHIC ENGINE that lies deep within the Phone, or the PS2, or the PC etc etc. That is the one single thing, FAR MORE than anything else that defines what the final output quality will look like. you talk about Gameboy Colour and Gameboy Advance.. WELL m8 this shows you do not actually understand the fundamentals... Gameboy Colour is a 8-BIT POWER machine with a colour reflective liquid crystal display (LCD), whilst Gameboy Advance is a 32-BIT POWER colour machine. you can see immediately for yourself the HUGE difference in Graphical Processing Power between the 2 machines. Basically, the 2 machines are light years apart. BUT it is not the amount of colours that has made this difference come about m8, it is the immensely more ADVANCED 32-BIT POWER of the GBA that makes the difference that you see on your screen. the Gameboy Advance is a FULL TWO Generations more advanced than the Gameboy Colour, having skipped out the 16-BIT generation in favour of Awesome 32-BIT POWER. Just as an example to help you understand this better, Sega Master System and Nintendo Entertainment Sytem (NES), two machines from the mid-late 80's were 8-BIT POWER, whilst the original Sony PlayStation (introduced here in 1995) was 32-BIT POWER, and with 3D capability... Massive difference! ExEn ALSO has 3D capabilites. What Java J2ME game can boast this m8???? NONE! it is the capabilities of the GRAPHIC ENGINE that truly defines how much improved a game looks rather than the amount of on-screen colours. learn the basics my friend (and i do not want to sound disrespectful either because you debate well m8). but the FUNDAMENTALS are well known m8, and you are totally wrong in what you say. you also said: "If your G5 runs out of memory, and you must delete a game in order to download a new one, you cannot backup an old. If the new game is not as good and you want to have an old one back, you have to pay for it EACH time !!" that is the ExEn system you are talking about there, and ONLY the ExEN system. you have already forgotten everything else i have just finished telling you about in the last post, regarding the phone's DUAL capabilities to run BOTH ExEN games AND Java J2ME games. ExEn games are the ones that operate in the way you describe above, but Java J2me games on the other hand are managed quite differently my friend. When you download a Java J2ME onto the MYG5, it is not saved in the same way as an ExEn game. an ExEn game is very different in that respect. you should not confuse the way the phone saves ExEn games with the way it saves Java J2me games. J2me games are saved in a shared memory space (the same place where you store other things such as poly ringtones, wallpapers, screensavers etc), you can upload as many as you wish without deleting one in order to receive the next one... that is the ExEn system where it will save one at a time, NOT the Java J2me system. you have the same complete freedom with Java J2me games as you do with other mobile entertainment products such as poly tones, wallpapers and screensavers etc. Hopefully you will read ALL of this post properly this time, and will take time to UNDERSTAND what i have written. Bottom line is that this phone is EXACTLY the kind of thing i have been waiting for. Regardless of what you say, i have done the research on the phone with regards to my list of requirements and it meets those requirements hands down. It will not be to EVERYONE'S taste of course, but NO PHONE IS and that is not a problem to me. Everyone is different, and everyone needs different things from their phones. For just 129 on PAYG, if you are into REAL next level Video Gaming on your mobile phone, you will NOT find a better phone ANYWHERE on the market, i guarantee you. and when you do, please let me know! as i said, people will buy for their own personal wants and needs, and all i will do is highlight what the phone is good for and what it isn't so good for (ie. i will provide accurate information) so that people can make up their OWN minds as to whether or not it suits their needs. i am not here to try and CONVINCE people that it's a good or bad phone, just that imo if Gaming and Personalization is high on your agenda, then pound for pound this is easily the best phone there is out there. This is a FUN phone, never forget that m8 (ie, if you like to have fun in most ways possible on a mobile phone, IN PARTICULAR GAMING then this is the phone for you). the cross-key control pad in the centre of the phone is not designed like that for nothing. the phone is clearly defined as such in one of the earlier links i provided to you but which you just dismissed out of hand as only "nice pictures"... READ what the words in that link actually say m8. if you want the best quality and choice of mobile phone games, simply look no further. this phone is perfect for me, so thank you very much. I have enjoyed the debate m8, and time is of the essence for me at the moment, so i will end it there for now. Cheers to you m8. ;)

  • ur all gonna laugh but ive gone for the philips fisio 825,if anyone can give me info id be greatful

  • Hello Anthony, you write brilliant technical articles. But the phone ...? You prefer ExEn Games because of the Quality ? I've seen Java Games on a Nokia 7650. I doubt, that the Quality of ExEn Games on phones with 256 colours are better than java on phones with 4096 or 65000 colours. Look at a Gameboy colour and a Gameboy advanced. Both have a coloured display, but ... My conclusion: Java is for professional phones. You can download games and applications over cable from your PC. You can buy CDs with a lot of games and apps. When you have not enough phone memory, it is no problem to delete one. You can transfer them again and again. If your G5 runs out of memory, and you must delete a game in order to download a new one, you cannot backup an old. If the new game is not as good and you want to have an old one back, you have to pay for it EACH time !! Wouldn't it be cheaper, to spend some Euros or Pounds in a better phone. You can save them later with no problems.

  • Hello Schnulli, ExEn games you download over the service provider's (in this case orange uk) Games portal. you connect to orange games by pressing and holding the 9 key on the handset. to the best of my knowledge, the orange games portal infrastracture is supplied by In-fusio, which as you probably know is the company behind the ExEn technology. remember that ExEn is already BASED on JAVA itself, but is simply a GAME API (meaning the ExEn chip inside the phone is built specifically for games), and that this same ExEn chip is also fully compatible with the Java J2me GAME API. this means it will recognise and run "real" Java games too m8. standard Java games i presume would be downloaded over a WAP connection where you would download the jar and jad files that make up a java game directly onto your handset's memory space (over 400kb available on the MYG5 phone), and the game can then be played due to the ExEn chip being able to "recognise and run" these files because of full compliance with the standards set out in the Java J2ME MIDP 2.0 GAME API, as i mentioned earlier. the software that you refer to is helpful if the game cannot be downloaded via WAP, and must first be downloaded to your PC and then uploaded to your phone. you are right, there is no specific software for that purpose yet (as far as i am aware), but as i mentioned the download to PC >> upload to phone method is not the only way to get "real" Java games m8. i do not know if sagem plan to bring out a software for the the other method, but really m8 i bought the phone to play ExEn games such as Crash Bandicoot, Kung-Fu Legend and Mission 3D, games which have superior graphics and sound than "real" Java games due to the fact that ExEn is a technology built SPECIFICALLY for gaming. it's rather like the difference between playing games on a PC which is designed to run many different apllications (not specialised), and a PlayStation2 which is designed SPECIFICALLY to play games. normal Jva phones have a genberic chip inside them (a jack of all trades Java J2me MIDP VM), whilst the MYG5 has the Gaming specific ExEn v2 chip which is specifically ENHANCED to substantially improve the levels and capabilities of mobile phone games. the difference is immediately noticeable although for not all genres. where this varies being that the difference in quality between a PC game and a PlayStation2 game is not as noticeable as the difference between a normal Java phone's games and an ExEn phone's games. this is becasue with a PC, you can constantly uprage vital cogs such as graphics crads etc. with a normal Java phone you are stuck with the VM that comes inside the phone at the manufacturing stage (ie. INFERIOR for GAMING, but can run many different apps.) the bottom line is ExEn phones are superior for GAMES, that is the botom line. there will be more "normal" Java games available like the "masses" of free ones you mention, but m8 i prefer (lots of quality + good level of quantity) over (massive quantity + perhaps only some quality). and i know that if ever i want the massive quantity apporoach it is still freely available to me whenever i want it, but i will not go that route in any case because whenever i want to get a standard java game, it will be from the likes of Sega, Namco, THQ etc, companies who produce truly quality games. as you may have now noticed, i am interested in a higher level of mobile gaming than what you might have had in mind with the "masses" of games that you referred to. when i want Java games, i will get them from the pro's, albeit even if it is at a small cost. which is why i keep going on about how people will buy for their own specific wants and needs. ExEn games are initially cheaper than standard Java games, but the cost evens itself out due to the fact that in ExEn games, you continue to spend minor amounts via sms transactions in-built into games, such as 10p towards purchasing things like extra levels, extra weapons etc as you advance in the game. it's all the same to me m8, only difference being that i know that i have the choice of either option whenever i want it.

  • Hello Anthony, you wrote the JAVA-capabilities of the G5 only includes Games. How do you get JAVA-Games ? I guess you have to pay for it, right, downloading them in the same way as ExEn-Games ? For other phones with real JAVA-support you can donload masses of free Games and applications and transfer it local to the phone. But sagem has no software to transfer java games/apps to the phone, right ? Therefore you have to pay each time, you want to play new games or even get more levels of a game. Poor sagem ...

  • This is a complete resource for Jim and anyone else who may be interested in getting wallpapers and making your OWN ringtones for the Sagem MYG5: if you want wallpapers for the myG5 all you have to do is go to www.esato.com where they have ericsson t68 colour wallpapers which work PERFECTLY on the MYG5. you can first go to the site and see which wallpapers you like first, and when you see what you like just go to their wap site from your MYG5's WAP Service and connect to wap.esato.com When you are there it's quite easy to dowload and save any wallpaper into your phone's memory. And for ringtones, it's very easy to make your own rigtones m8. in both MID (midi) and WAV (wave) file formats. Polyphonic Ringtones are the ones which come as MIDI FILES. Music ringtones come as WAV FILES. To start making your own tones, follow this guide below: FOR MIDI FILES, all you do is go to a site which has free midi files like: (You can also search Google for other free midi file websites if you still can't find what you want.) Anyway once you find what you want, you then download the Midi file to your PC by right clicking on the file and choosing the "Save Target As" option and then just choose what folder to save it in. So now you have your Midi file on your PC and you have downloaded/saved it onto your computer, you then get another free piece of software called PSMPLAY which is for Editing the Midi file to your own personal taste and satisfaction (ie. YOU choose what section of the jingle that you want to use as your ringtone!), and you then basically shorten the file so that it will fit within the guidelines set out for acceptable midi files that can be uploaded onto the phone (you can see what the guidelines for uploading all kinds of files onto your phone are by clicking the help tab on the free Sagem uploader software "Sagem My Pictures and Sounds" which is free from the Sagem website, the link for that is at the bottom of this post) for PSMPLAY (the Midi file editor) go to this page: (and it is the file under the TOOLS section called PSMP3 - DOWNLOAD THIS FIRST.ZIP) for the Sagem My Pictures And Sounds software, go to this page: (At the bottom of the page you will find it. use it for uploading ringtones/wallpapers etc onto your phone once they have been properly edited according to the guidelines given in the Sagem software's help section.) FOR WAV FILES: Again just get some wav files, for example there are some good ones here: If the files are too large or not in the right format, just use another free program called COOLEDIT to edit them into the right format and size, once again according to the guidelines set out in the Sagem software's SIMPLE help section. OR you can just create your own WAV files, also with CoolEdit: for example if you have mp3 files already on your PC, you can use CoolEdit to open these files and convert them into wav files and use your favourite part of the mp3 song as the ringtone, all done with CoolEdit. then you just save the finished wav file in the correct format given in the help section of the Sagem software, and it will be ready to upload onto your phone. Get CoolEdit '96 for free here: (Download it at the bottom of the page) it's very simple to use and when you have created and edited your wav file, just save it somewhere on you PC (perhaps in a new folder especially created for your personalized ringtones/wallpapers etc), and then simply use the Sagem My Pictures And Sounds software to upload it to your phone. That's all guys. Really it's not so difficult m8, you just have to be willing to want to create your own tones, which in the end usually turn out to be much better than some of the stuff you can download from a lot of these free ringtones websites out there. SO TO RECAP: FOR WALLPAPERS: www.esato.com AND wap.esato.com (from your phone's WAP service) MIDI FILES (for creating Polyphonic Ringtones): MIDI FILE EDITING TOOL (PsmPlay): WAV FILES (for creating music ringtones): WAV FILE EDITOR (CoolEdit): SAGEM SOFTWARE (to upload the finished version edited files onto your phone): Well, that's it... I hope that helps you. You've got more than enough info there i think to start making your own Polyphonic Ringtones and Music ringtones, and to start getting some wallpapers too. Cheers ;)

  • Hello Schnulli, you wrote: "One example for understanding: If you look at the specs on this site, it says the G5 is capable of JAVA. Really ?? Has anybody a G5 with JAVA ? orange.co.uk, who sell it, says it has not." No.1... The people at orange uk are useless. for jim: orange uk is NOT the same company as sagem uk. orange is only the service provider, sagem is the handset manufacturer. orange customer service in the uk is well known for being clueless on many technical issues such as this. but that point apart, orange is generally an excellent service provider, but they honestly need to sort out their customer service. this is well known to a lot of orange customers, and it's something they need to start bucking up their ideas in. Schnulli: as for the JAVA issue, yes you are right that java is merely the programming language that all sorts of different applicationbs are written in (not just games alone). BUT where the confusiuon comes is when sites describe the phone as having JAVA outright. the myG5 does not have complete JAVA capability, BUT what it does have is it allows you to play both ExEN games from the In-fusio service (on "orange games"), AND Java J2me games.... you see the thing is, the ExEn chip is actually capable of runnig both ExEn games AND "normal" JAVA J2me applications due to the fact that the ExEn chip (version 2) inside the myG5 is fully compliant with the standards set out in the Java J2ME MIDP 2.0 game API (Application programming Interface). Read this page: it says, and i Quote: "The ExEn technology which will be fully J2ME MIDP 2.0 game API compliant, has been designed for games containing animated graphics, sound, 3D and colour." The Game API is the part of the J2ME MIDP 2.0 VM (virtual machine) that is used for running the games. it says ExEn is fully compatible with this Game API. the Game API is the part that you need to worry about here when you are talking about Java J2me games. since the ExEn (v2) chip is fully compliant with this Game API, this means that it will recognise and run any J2me game written in Java J2me. when a game is written in Java J2me, developers will use the standards set out in this J2ME MIDP 2.0 Game API because that is the standard set out for making Java Games. remember that ExEn is BASED on Java J2me, but in-fusio (the makers of ExEn) simply added their own extras on top to make it more advanced (for making games) and then called it ExEn. They did this because the Java J2me MIDP version 1.0 at that time did not have a specific Game API, and was initially designed for making all kinds of generic Applications... ie it was not really good enough for making really great looking/sounding games. now J2ME MIDP 2.0 has a Game API which is specifically meant for making games and which allows programmers to get far more out of the technology which makes a great improvement, and ExEn is fully compliant with the standards set out in this Game API. but ExEn (is a Game API itself) which is why the ExEn chip will not run other applications since it is not compliant with other API's of the MIDP 2.0 standard. it is only fully compliant with the Game API of the J2ME MIDP 2.0 standard. as such it will only run either ExEn games (created using ExEn Game API) or Java J2me games (which would have been created using the J2ME MIDP 2.0 Game API). either way, the ExEn chip will recognise and run both types of games. i hope this makes it clearer. it seems that ExEn phones can also run Java J2me games, but NOT "other" J2me applications... only J2me Games. but the only problem is that on top of all this, some developers also make games that work best on only certain handsets (usually the most popular Java handsets like certain nokia, siemens, motorola, or sharp handsets). This means that the Java J2me game in question might not work well on your phone if it the game was optimized at creation to work best on one specific handset. now also read this (from the Java Community Process, which sets out the standards for Java), you will have a MUCH clearer understanding. Read it very carefully: The bottom line is that the myG5 DOES have JAVA capability, but only for GAMES and not for other applications. which is exactly what i have been trying to tell you, tht this phone was built specifically for MOBILE GAMING. there are extras thrown in too, so people will buy to their own particular wants and needs. Thanks.

  • thats nbot new though and 8310 is going to get old because more and more phones are going colour

  • for 129.99

  • if ur in the uk rudy i know were u can get an 8310 reconditioned and thats value

  • i doubt that you will find a better colour phone for 130 than the sagem myg5(by the way it is better than the myx5) but good luck in trying. if you do find one tell everyone what it is because i certainly would buy it if it was only 130 and better than the sagem myg5

  • well my sagems gone to the link shop in the sky lol.if anyone can give me some info on mobiles, that are on pay as you go,and colour for around 130

  • Java is not only game . There are many applications and tools written in Java, which you can downlaod from variious sites (freeware!) AND TRANSFER IT from your PC to the phone. I doubt Sagem can build such a handy :-)))

  • is the my-x5 better than the myg5?

  • rudy are they polyphonic ringtones as well?

  • yo jim have you ever thought of making your own ringtones theres a really good program to do this go to www.goldwave.com and download it and from then you will find it easy to make ringtones

  • java means you can download game and play the on and offline

  • i doubt it that you will find a good colour nokia phone for 140, maybe a 2nd hand but not new , but you can try

  • the sagem myg5 is exclusive only to orange it may come out on other networks but in this point in time its an orange phone

  • im off to change my mobile ,ive got 140 all together is there a colour nokia for that price?

  • can anyone say anything good about the sagem myg5??? there must be some good points, and one more think ,when i bought my phone the booklet was from orange not sagem so who runs the buisness???,and has anyone obtainened any ringtones, pics or logos for this phone? ive not found a thing, and again what is this java thing i keep hearing everyone talking about????thank you

  • yeh the t300 is a good phone feature wise i was considering getting that phone but in the uk its 200 and i was put off by the shape of it

  • sounds like a better buythanks schnulli ill have to consider a better phone

  • Oh, i forgot: And you can get support and technical information, because the phone really exists on the manufacturers site :-))) They don't feel shame at it, like sagem does at the G5 o:)) www.sonyericsson.com

  • I am not from UK, but for the same price as a G5 you get a Sony-Ericsson T300, which has no Wave as Ringtone (but polyphonic Midi-Ringtones), but: 1.MMS 2.Ringtones AND Pictures can be assigned to phonebook entries (not only to groups !) So every caller can get a individual picture and ringtone. 3.WAP 2.0 4. E-Mail (POP3 und IMAP4) 5. As accessory a Camera 6. Fax and Data compatible 7. voice-dialing And you could change covers if you don't like the look of the phone.

  • what phone would you recommend schnulli???? at 120 and colour dont say philips phisio or panasonic, there as bad

  • (_8())........homer

  • RUDY,i dont have a clue what your going on about, but im not in disagreement with anyone, especially people who know how to use the g5 all i want is a site were i can get ringtones for the g5,have you had any tones from the net, rudy ,if so help me find one for my mobile:)

  • @RuDy: I looked in the forum: Problems unlocking your G5 :-)) ? If you would have buyed a real phone -> no probs ! It seems you have not informed yourself before buying o:)))

  • @RuDy: Did i write something wrong? Then please correct me :-)) How do you download wave-files on your phone o:)) ?? The thing is: I hate people, who look not behind the curtain and praise the phone, it is the best, i am so proud of it. When i critize the phone (with facts) then people become angry and write silly things like "SCHNULLI IS A SHIT LICKER". Cool argues for a phone to buy. Why does this phone not exist on www.sagem.com or www.sagem.fr ?? One example for understanding: If you look at the specs on this site, it says the G5 is capable of JAVA. Really ?? Has anybody a G5 with JAVA ? orange.co.uk, who sell it, says it has not. So before you buy, compare. But compare not with data from gsmarena. Download the manuals of the phones you want to buy. There are enough sites, where you will get them . Nearly every manufacturer (sagem not :-)) )gives you the possibility. Now you ...

  • he only talks to people who are to dumb to know about this phone

  • schnulli is giving good advice as i can see rudy,or do you know any different to what hes saying,i can believe you cant text a ringtone and i can believe you need a cable to get things from the net,

  • are every poloyphonic phones able to create ringtones without using a cable? no and schnulli if you keep saying bad things about this phone why do you talk in the sagem myg5 section?

  • schnulli can i get screen savers from the net or logos,or anything, which i dont need to use a cable with,i had the same problems with a philips fisio, it never detected my cable modem,it only detected 56k modems,so in other words it would have took an age to download, which would have cost a fortune

  • So beware if you look at the highlights of a phone. On the first sight:WOW . But then :-(( How does my mom say: ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD !

  • so what your saying is no tunes without this cable,i may as well swap it for an everyday nokia, such as the 3330,at least ill get some change lol

  • IR means Infrared (e.g. Notebook -> phone) Data-cable is a cable from the serial port of the PC to the phone. Costs about 10 Euro. Ringtones cannot be send from Sagem Handy to another Sagem (Nokia could !!) Try www.google.com to buy a cable (the software you find at the links i mentioned) or rtfm !

  • ive no clue what an ir is or a data cable, they dont call us scousers thick for nothing

  • so i think i should give it up as a bad joke thanks mate for your help,i asked orange yesterday if they can tell me any web addys they said no were not trained for that stuff lol what a joke of a company looks like ill have to take my mobile back again

  • Tones for X5 and G5 are of the same format (Midi or Wave). The G5 does not exist on Sagems site and in different countries you cannot buy it. Seems to be special phone for UK. You can try it via IR or a serial Datacable. There is no USB cable for Sagem phones (Its not a Nokia :-(( )

  • ive tried the sites you all suggested, but do i need a usb lead to get them,or can anyone tell me how to get them, schnulli u know your stuff get in touch, ineed drastic help, from a thick phone user

  • can anyone text me a ringtone i only have liberty x on my phone, thanks for the websites everyone but they were formx not myg5

  • planetsagem.com ,what a joke, can anyone email me some descent websites for ringtone screensaver ect for the sagem my-g5

  • Or this: If crapple Sagem-Software does not work, try this: Pluginout from Good luck

  • @russ: Try this:

  • good phone but impossible to find hifi ringtones if anyone knows were i can get them i would be greatful

  • They forgot to mention the X3 also :-))))

  • One point i forgot. When you look on www.sagem.com, did you see a G5 or G5m ? You will not. How will you get support, when the phone officially does not exist on the manufacturers site ?? What a company :-)) Do they feel shame at this phone :-))))))) ???

  • I have had a MY-X5. Be sure i know what i write. I find it ridiculous when people write, they see more than 256 colours. Sagem says it has 256 ! Another example for the poor quality of the phone is the support from the manufacturer. Ever had a problem with a sagem phone ? Outside france there is no way to get support. Last example: The IR-port. All phones i know from Nokia, Siemens etc. with IR-port can change phonenumber-entries or even print via IR. Or you can synchronize via IR your Adressbook, manage your SMS and so on and so on. Sagem phones cannot do one of this. Why do they have a IR-port ?? For the first sight the phone has some funny features (coloured display and "Hifi"-ringtones). But if you look further it lacks of nearly all features, that would make it an actual high-class phone. Download the manuals for a Sagem, e.g. Siemens S45i or any Nokia and compare yourself !! So i say thanks to ebay, where MY-X5 became YOUR-X5.

  • this phone is up there with the 300-450 phones, it has downloadable game ringtones wallpaper screensaver and pictures it has a handsfree kit installed and the fone can change covers along with a great colour screen what more would you want in a phone and its only 120 pounds thats well worth it i was very pleased with my purchase as it had everything i was looking for i highly recommend this phone to everyone you wont be dissappointed trust me

  • One question for schnulli..... Did you even bother reading the technical specification of the My X-5. If you didnt then DONT critisize the phone. These days its common sense to read what something has Moroon!!!!!!!!!

  • hi, it's really all down to personal opinion at the end of the day. each individual person will know what they are looking for in a phone, and if you just so happened to have bought the phone (if you actually have ever owned this phone, i doubt it) when what you really required was something totally different (ie. more advanced), then that is a mistake on YOUR part, nothing to do with the quality of the phone itself. it's simple, if you need a more advanced phone, go out there and SPEND. this is a mid-range phone in case you do not know, it's for the average users (ie. the vast MAJORITY of mobile owners out there). if you are like the average mobile user, all you will want from your mobile phone is an excellent middle of the range phone that is attractive on the outside, yet highly capable on the inside. this phone is all of that, and then some. average users will look for a phone that has a good feature set for the price you pay, (ie. good value for money), and one that is simple to use, highly customisable, with excellent personalization features, polyphonic ringtones (there's room for up to 80 in the MYG5 in 3 or 4 different formats), downloadable ExEn and Java games, excellent battery life, colour screen (the avergae user doesn't care whether it's 256 colours or whatever, colour is colour m8!! DOH), plus this phone also has a very compact size and light weight, WAP, downloadable backgrounds & screensavers, EMS messaging, changeable covers (front and back), infra-red, AND a speakerphone facility. and there are more features i could list but i haven't got all day. so you tell me: what more does the average user want from their mid-range phone except perhaps FM radio??? Please, your comments are a joke. you obviously have never even laid hands on this phone have you?? and yet you talk like you have owned one in the past or something? you don't have a clue. and if you really want to prove that you actually DO know what you're talking about and that you have owned one, then come back and i will ask you a question VERY specific to this phone which i wiil expect you to know the answer to. and then we shall see. otherwise, you are simply NOT in any kind of position to talk about whether this phone is good or not because it will be clear for everyone here to see that you are talking JAZZ my friend... (ie. Total and utter nonsense). this handset most definitely does all of those things above that average users would want and much more besides, and it does them all VERY VERY well indeed. and how do i know? because i ACTUALLY own one! Yes, my friend that is correct. that is the big difference. i suspect you do not own one, in which case your comments cannot be taken seriously whatsoever. it's like me seeing a picture and features list of a Nokia 3310 or something, and then still trying to convince the world that it's a bad phone without ever owning one. simply ridiculous! a good phone is a good phone. not everyone will like it, but from my past experience i reckon most average users once they have tried it once will immediately love this phone. most average users definitely WOULD. maybe the Sagem MYG5 is "a bad phone" in YOUR eyes, but the vast majority of people who actuallyy try this phone i can guarantee you will definitely not be disappointed. poeple buy phones for their own needs, not for what some joker who has never used it says. that's what you fail to understand. most average users are looking for similar things as each other from their handsets, they expect high quality but they are not *too* demanding. they dont expect a 3G phone for the price of a 2.5G phone. the sooner you understand this logic, the better.

  • Sorry Anthony, but cool pictures don't turn a bad phone into a good one. Neither do cool videos or phantastic adverts. An example for poor sagem: The new official sagem-site: www.planetsagem.com. Phantastic layout, poor quality. To download a ringtone you must call a 0190 phone number (1,3 Euro/Min). Then you can download a ringtone from the site and YOU must yourself load it to your handy via PC and the crappy Sagem-Software. SUPER-SERVICE !!

  • Some really Fantastic pics of the Sagem myG-5.

  • popey, the sagem myG-5 is EMS (enhanced messaging service) capable which means you can send EMS messages to other EMS capable phones, not just sagem phones. if the phone you are sending an EMS message to can only handle SMS, then the text part of your EMS message will still be sent to that phone but MINUS the multimedia aspects such as sounds or graphics. basically thats what EMS is... being able to send a text message with a graphic included or a ringtone included or a sound clip etc ect included in the same EMS message. for example you could have an EMS that says "merry xmas" and include a xmas tree graphic or a "we wish you a merry xmas" sound clip (jingle) all in the same message. there is another version of the myG-5 coming out in future called the myG-5m which i dont think has yet been released.. this is the one that will have MMS capability. MMS messaging means any MMS capable phone can send a message to any other MMS capable phone, not just the same manufacturer phones. eg a nokia MMS phone can send an MMS message to a sagem MMS phone and vice-versa. to recap: the sagem myG-5 is EMS capable. the sagem myG-5m (not released yet as far as i know) will be MMS capable. i think both will look exactly the same, the only difference being that the myG-5m will have MMS capabilty.

  • Hi! Thanx for the help! just one question, i heard that you can only send MMS to other sagem G-5 phones, is this true, or can u send MMS to any phone with MMS compatiblity?

  • hi popey, i have had the myG-5 for a little while now and i can honestly say that this phone is such a gem. i am very pleased with just how pleased with my purchse of this handset. it is such an excellent phone in it's own right. i do not own a myX-5 so i cannot comment on it, although i do know that there are many similarities between the 2, because i know that the myG-5 is based on the myX-5. but i would definitely recommend that you get the myG-5 because not only will you be able to download & play the ExEn games from In-fusio, but you will also be able to download Java (J2ME) games & applications too over a WAP connection because the myG-5 is also a Java (J2ME) enabled handset. you can only get ExEn games on the my-X5 because it is NOT a Java (J2ME) enabled phone. the my-G5 also has a gameboy style control pad which makes playing games a LOT better. if feels exactly like it should feel. it feels just like playing a gameboy game rather than the unconventional one-handed gameplaying nature of a lot of average mobile phones. this phone is desiged specifically with gaming in mind. the control pad really does make a big difference. and imo the myG-5 is easily the better looking phone... i feel it has a far more cooler look to it than the myX-5. for more info on the differences & similarities between the 2 phones just check out the information pages for each phone on this site. the bottom line is that the myG-5 has more functions/features than the myX-5, and it is also better looking too imo. but here is a link for more info and pics of the my-G5:

  • Hi! i considering ethier getting the SAGEM MY X-5 or the SAGEM MY G-5, which one should i get? and why?

  • No im 22 and i still think your comments are full shit and you are just another overrated dickwad schnulli!

  • Okay, for people who cannot see any difference and every second word is (censored), it is a cool display and when you drink enough beer, it seems to be MORE than 256 colours (when you took LSD it became Millions !!) SAGEM says it were 256 colors, not more, not less :-)) Does your mother know about what she has done wrong in your education? Where do you grow up ? Full of hate ! I would have understand, if i wrote something ugly about your mother ! I like your comments. I guess you are 10 -14 years, right ? Did i offence you ? I have critized the phone o:) But your answers :-((

  • Nobody said: "You surely have configured the display of your PC to 256 colours !" Do you ? Because 256 colours are great :-)))(Although i believe you cannot count to 256).

  • hi guys try the above link ive just started a yahoo group !!!!NEW!!!!

  • Im not disapointed about my buy... Actually i got more than i bargained for, I didnt know this fone was soo lite. And the colour on this phone looks more like a 4096 colour display rathe than a 256 considering i have a nokia 7210.... But yeh in some ways id rather use the Sagem. But im totally against SCHNULLI.. What he said is totally full of SHIT... I THINK IM SPEAKING FOR EVERY ONE WHEN I SAY THAT SCHNULLI IS A SHIT LICKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh and i love the hotmail adressess. YOU GUYS ROCK

  • hello, i have just found out that sagem have now lauched a new official website for all sagem users where you can now download things like ringtones, wallpapers, graphics, screensavers and games etc. onto your your sagem mobile phone! it looks really good and it's free too, just quickly register first and then you will have full access to the site:

  • Sorry, in one point you are right: "I have had an myg-5, t68i and MYX-5.And i dont see the difference between the colour" Yes they all have the same, shitty 256 colours display and not 4096 or 65000 as REALLY COOL handys have !

  • if schnulli is spanish or whatever then fuck the spanish or south american, because this phone is good. in my opinion you dont need any more than what it already has!!!!!!!!

  • I say, good on those who chose the MYG-5 and fuck those like SCHNULLI who think there shit......... cause there not shit.. You dont need all that fancy shit all you want is colour screen EMS, SMS, MMS, games, WAP 1.2, GPRS, java, T9 and something small... So schnulli is an ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have a MY-X5 and it is the worst phone, i ever had. The support by sagem is nonexistent. The display (same as in the G5) has crappy colours. Features, which other phones have since 4 years are missing. You cant transfer phonebook entries per IR (very old phones like Siemens S35i or Nokia 8210 can exchange). Phonebook entries only contain name and number. No e-mail adress (perhaps because the phone has no e-mail client :-(( ??). No little organizer functions to see and so on and so on. Beside the crappy 256 colour display and polyphonic ringtones the phone has nothing, what phones from Nokia, Siemens, Motorola .. have. And that is the "hightec-phone" of this poor company. Poor french ...

  • i think the sagem my-g5 is great, im actually going o by one 2moro.

  • i find the phone very exciting, but can't find ringtones/songs for ringtones anywhere can u help?

  • super apparaille

  • actually it feels more like an 8310 than a 8210. the 8210 feels slightly thinner depth-wise than the 8310. 8310 is the that feels really solid. so yes this phone is more like a nokia 8310, only it's built especially for playing games.

  • More info on features, especially WGR site below: 3G.co.uk Wireless Gaming Review:

  • right guys, i've just got this phone from the orange shop here in UK. i've had it for just over a week now, and i'm telling you guys this phone truly ROCKS! firstly, reading some comments below i can confirm that it's true what they have been saying about the colour screen, it doesn't seem like a 256 dislay AT ALL, the sheer clarity in the colours is a joy to behold... the screen is definitely superior to the t68. the phone is very compact and light, reminiscent of a nokia 8210 when you hold it in your hand, so small and fits in your hand perfectly. very light and you hardly notice it in your pocket. but the design feels so much more solid than the 8210. the menu system is simplicity itself and as i was coming from previously owning a nokia phone to this i was very pleasantly surprised. To Clare: it hasn't got a calendar but like i said it's very simple to use and JAM-PACKED with features. i don't know how they managed to fit so much into a phone that costs only 120 on Pay as you go. to see most of the features look at the info page for this phone, i dont think they listed ALL the features actually. but the main reason why i got this phone was because i intend to be playing a lot of games on my phone since i dont carry Gameboys around with me, but i always carry my mobile phone and thats why i've been waiting for someone to have the sense to come up with a phone like this. and it's exactly for gamers like me that this phone was made for. it's a half Gameboy half-Mobile phone. but best of all it doesn't compromise itself at all when you are doing either activity. as a games machine, this phone is head and shoulders above everything else out there. as a mobile phone, it more than holds it's own, delivering excellent clarity of calls and a dazzling array of features for such a relatively inexpensive device. everything about this phone just SCREAMS QUALITY. from the moment you hold it in your hand you just know this is something special. the control pad/cross keys in the middle feel solid and it makes a world of difference from trying to play games on a traditional mobile phone design. this phone is a 2.5G device, it has a high quality speakerphone, downloadable games from In-fusio via the orange network, downloadable java games from the net, changeable operator logos: change operator logos via EMS (enhanced messaging service) NOT sms like in 2G phones. EMS is sms plus picture-art, ringtones, graphics etc all sent in the same message. if you try and change the operator logo using sms it doesn't work. it must be an ems message sent to you. technologically Ems is halfway between Sms and Mms... SMS>>EMS>>MMS. the phone lets you use high qaulity REAL music as ringtones (via wav files), polyphonic ringtones in different formats (midi, imelody, wav etc), infra-red, 10 DAYS standby battery, changeable front and back covers, currency converter, calculator, 3d animated screensavers & backgrounds, downloadable polyphonic ringtones & screensavers & backgrounds etc, Wap, GPRS, vibrate-alert, on screen call-counter, on screen date/time & clock, alarm, 400Kb memory for storing anything you want from games to graphics to sounds etc. and a whole load of other features that i just can't remember right now. basically, this phone is just SUPERB. i'm telling you. i was thinking of getting a nokia 7210 before but then i accidentally stumbled across this phone on a mobile games website and i immediately liked the design. this is EXACTLY the type of phone i've been waiting for for a long time now. so i decided to buy it and try it out and now i'm glad i did. i'm very impressed with it and now i wouldn't swap it for anything else now because it fits my personal requirements perfectly. for it's sheer value for money, number of features, design, ease of use, and general all-round high quality i'd give this phone a 9/10 EASILY.

  • I went to this site and it said the sagem myg-5 has suprisingly good colour for a 256 colour handset.. And when the fuck are sagem gonna put the SAGEM MY3088 on there fucked up site....

  • Ok! If you switch the display of your PC to 256 colours and look at a photo -> do you see 65000 colours ? And doesnt the photo look much better at 65000 (nearly 256*256) colours? I would bet you have configured your graphics card to 24 or 32 bit colours. And you do so, BECAUSE it looks worse than 256 colours or it looks better than 256 colours ? LOL o:)))))))))))

  • They say it has suprisingly good colour for 256 colour display.... ive been to the site to whatever your name is..... DANNY IS WRITE

  • Does anyone know a site to get ringtones for this phone from?????

  • @danny It has the same ugly Display with 256 colours like the T68i or the MY-X5. State of the Art Phones have 4096 or 65000 Colours. And not a LCD but TFT Display !! You see the plane on this photo and think that is 256 colours ??

  • I am thinking of getting this phone. Has it got a calender? I need to know what it's like and what other functions it has and is it easy to use? Thanks!!

  • Think about the T68 ya dumb SHIT. Have you seen the colour on that phone?????? Its a 256 coluor. So think before you say anything more stupid ya dumbSHIT!!!

  • How can the colour for this phone is one of the best, it is only 256 colours what are you talking about??

  • maaaaaaaadddddddd phone.. although keys look like a gameboy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
