E740 Samsung! Still we had at home in good working condition. The music from this little devil is really enchanting compare to any new modern mobiles in 2017. Such a melodious poise in listening to it. In the night time from terrace of the building one should listen to its flawless music!! Clarity of the audio is still amazing! The fonts and touch & feel is great. And Sar value is so negligible. Thank you Samsung!!

I have this phone since 2008/12/15 and bought it for R999 (+/- $170) at Cell C South Africa (Cape Gate Center in Kraaifontein, Cape Town) I'm still happy with it even after it got alot of beating. It's as strong as an Swiss Bank Vault compared to my brother's Nokia 5220 XpressMusic which was about twice the price. My E740 fell from about three and a half stories into the dust below the stadium seats(Koetzenberg Stadium in Stellenbosch)knocking part of the numberpad out of it's socket on the side. Fixed it pretty quick by pressing it back with a minature screwdriver. Only problems I have is the short battery lifetime, sometimes when opening a large wapsite the phone seems to restart and also when recording video or a taking a photo, the photo itself has a green line at the bottom running from the right to mid-left of the screen. It only appear and dissapears from time to time which is nothing major. The earphones is a bit dramatic but has great sound quality and is comfortable only for a while, the sillicone tend to tear. You can use E250 earphones on the E740 but I would not recommend to do it. The scrollwheel is not as fast anymore but still works and it lost is nice glitter effect after a while. The default browser is a bit useless but can be avoided by using Opera Mini. Java is not so great, can only download apps & games smaller than 300KB. Music Player is awesome and users-friendly. It can play MP4 & 3GP videos only up to a maximum of 176x220 resolution, 128kb bitrate at either 11fps or 15fps. Can play all mp3 & wma formats but AAC tend to bit of problem because it only support one of the three AAC codecs. SD access times are a bit slow with large files but it all depens on the SD Card itself. Great fone but for the price I payed back in 2008 I can now buy a Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini for the same price today or for a bit less an Nokia 5130 XpressMusic.

this may be because of the reject list feature in the phone. the number for which call is rejected without ring, must be added in the reject list. check the reject list and remove the munber from that list this should work

I have been using this phone since Jan 2008. I bought this phone for Rs.7900 in bangalore. The features like 2 MP camera, MP3 player, FM, GPRS, and 256k display offered for that price at that time was very good. But i am extremely disappointed with the user interface, which allows very little customization. The main menu icons are not colorful, they are just plain white icons with single-color background. The background color changes per the skin color selected. Also, it comes with only 1 default tajmahal theme. The theme cannot be changed; only skin color can be changed. Mp3 volume via earphone is too low while traveling in a bus. Also, speaker phone is volume is very low. Other than this boring user interface and low Mp3 volume, the phone performs all fuctions well. Also, photos of moving objects come blurred.

I have owned this phone for over a year now and there is nothing wrong with it. Absolutely no problems with it. Its a simple and pretty fone, but in South Africa its only availible in metallic colour. Watever anyone say against this fone, just keep it in your mind but don't believe it. Its an exellent fone!

These people saying this phone is bad are thick. Ive had it 4 2 years now and it hasn't crashed or done any of the things you say. Yes it could do with setting mp3's as ringgtones but its an amazing phone. Its the toughest ive ever had too. Ive dropped it loads and it hasn't broken. It's only got a crack in the screen as som1 sttod on it with football boots on, but it still works perfectly fine. My mum and dad both had their own of this phone and both think it was amazing. Its the best phone ive ever had.

I am using this phone since 1 year. So far no problems. Good features, but lacks separate speaker for mp3, so volume is not enough while playing in speaker mode. Also, it has many skins, but only 1 theme. So, you can change the skin, but not the theme. Other than this, no problems. I even keep it in a pouch which has a magnet lock mechanism. No problem with the magnet for me so far. It has many features and hence gave full value for money during its time of release.

After using this phone for about 2 weeks, my biggest complaint is that the ringer volume is way too low, even at the highest setting. Part of the problem is that the phone is program for an increasing ring volume, so for the first couple of seconds the ringer is almost inaudible. On the plus side, the 2mp camera produces better photos than expected.

It's a smart-looking phone, but it doesn't rock that much. Aside from my previously-mentioned problem with the magnet, I've experienced the following negative issues: - ring volume is not loud enough; - there are no user-programmable profiles; - no shortcuts to incoming call settings; - the slider is a bit wobbly when closed. It is an OK phone overall, but unless I can get it for cheap (which I did), I wouldn't recommend it.

I normally use a belt leather case with a magnetic closure. I've never had any problem with any other phone, but with the E740 (actually E747 in Canada), it appears that the magnet will cause the screen to turn on from sleep mode. It's not causing any unintended calls or affecting in-coming calls, but at the very least it would affect battery life. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar experience with magnets affecting their cell phones.

hey.. i am presently using this phone, Samsung E740 & its Great..! ;-) In order to connect ur phone to pc, first u got to get a samsung pc studio software..(can download it or get it frm samsung service centre) install it on ur system. then connect ur phone to d system using d usb cable.. only then can u access ur pictures, msgs, contacts etc etc.. on ur pc..

you attach usb cable to usb port on pc. and you see a thing pop up in the middle of the screen you scroll down and click on "open folder to view files" and it opens you go on "pictures" and you press Ctrl on your pc keyboard and A at the same time and then you press move this file and then a window opens in the midde of the screen and you select the desktop or local disc part and then you press move and there you go that's how I did it.

If you want to put the pictures on ur computer you have to get the disk which comes with the phone and put it in you computer so it lets you download the program onto your computer, when it is finished downloading plug the phone in again and it should hopefully come up with a box saying Samsung PC Studio 3 and then you can download things on or off your phone. Hope tht helped :)

Go To Settings>Phone Settings>Slide Settings and set down to stop operation or continue operation. I've had this phone for a year now. Works fine never freezed or anything and dropped it a millon times =] I will only change it Q3 next year

I am very disappointed with this phone! It is freezing on me. I noticed trouble with it immediately I began to use it but tried to ignore the telltale signs of an unstable system, skipping of its own accord, not reading a select command and telling me that nothing is selected, frustrating. And the Users Guide is a scanty overview of functions and settings that helps little when searching what solutions there may be to the problems. If the seeming instability of the phone might be said to be the fault of an incompetent handling it then show me the errant who promotes this phone and sells it with its Excuse for a User Guide.

I got this phone yesturday and i think it is good. not good that you cant have mp3 as sms tone. sound is good on it. the menu is a bit slow at times. you just have to not rush when going though the menu. it has not yet turned off on me or stuffed up. but i will come back in one month and tell you all how it is going. cya!

My brother and i both bought this phone. About a month ago my brothers phone wouldnt turn on, also none of the bottons on the keypad would work. After he returned his phone mine started to freeze and turn off when ever it liked, also when i tried to play music it would make a high pitched squeling sound and would not stop unless you took the battery out,the music was going from slow to fast loud to soft. I recemend not to buy this phone because after reading the other opinions this samsung phone is faulty.

i bought this phone last weekend and i have had toooooooo many problmes with ut.. it freezez, turns off when it feels like it even tho it has been fully charged.. it also turns off while im receving an incoming call and while its switched off, it keeps vibrating! the worst phone i have ever owned. i went back into th store i bought it from and im awaiting a word from th manager to see whether i can exchange it for another phone altogether. im hoping i can swap it and add a bit more money on top and get a nokia.... i absolutely hate it! 0 out of 10

to change ur message tone, u have to go to settings then sound settings then message tone, then messages then click using the i button then go down and choose ur tone. The once u r happy with it press select and then save.

I only got this phone the other day. Its very good. I love it!! Black one looks waaaaaaaay better than the pink coz the pink one looks too "girly". Very nice design and has everything u could ask for on it. I had two other phones before they were sagems but they weren't that good, this ones better.I really really love it. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i had this phone for a month or so but a few days ago i had to get it replaced for a new one cause the bluetooth broke. The phone has all the basic features you need, has a good design and has one push buttons for music, camcorder/camera which i use often. Oh, and it has this spinning wheel thingy for the music player but its sometimes annoying if u accidentally push it or whatever. The only thing that i dont like about this phone is that if you want the phonebook as a shortcut, you cant and if you live in australia and you try to find a crystal shell cover for it, you cant really find it; you have to go on ebay to buy one.. thats what i did. i give it a 8.5 overall for the phone.... yehhhhs :S

I just got this phone a few hours ago and I totally love it. My previous phone was busted beyond repair and I had to quickly get a new one. I love the E740 as it does so much more than it should for the price I payed for it. Great camera, good navigation. Excellent in general. Well, anything will beat my old phone, but it is still pretty damn good. PROS - Super cheap for what it does. - Pretty! - A billon times better than my old phone. CONS - Haven't worked any out yet. - Maybe the lack of free games, I mean, no solitare!!

ive been using this phone since february this year and all is going well. its a great phone and ive been getting many compliments on it - its not released here yet =] ive noticed that a lot of people are asking about how to use the pc studio cd or use the usb to transfer files to the phone. you DO NOT need to install the cd or even use the studio to put things onto your phone with the usb. the reason it doesnt work is because the setting may be on a different one. to change it i went to menu > settings > phone settings > USB settings > and i chose mass storage then each time you connect your phone to your computer it should pop up as a removeable disk in My Computer - like a usb.

I have made some clips on my E740 can u tell how can i view them on my laptop. I have transfered that on my laptop. one more thing i want to know that when i connect my data cable, it does not show the items store in memory card to transfer for those first i have to save my clips or pics on phone and then only i can transfere, so is their any way i can transfer to my laptop directly from my memory card.

To download music/images/videos directly to ur memory car instead of the phone memory, Just go to : Settings > Memory Settings > Default Memory and chage the settings from Phone to Memory Card for the corresponding type of downloads. Simple!!

Does anyone have the PC Studio 3 software installation disc on CD or know where one may be obtained? I bought my E740 from T-mobile and they do not supply a disc. Downloading from the Samsung website is not successful - my laptop won't recognise the Samsung USB. Otherwise the mobile is great.

I brought this phone in black a few days ago and it is amazing! The music player is very similar to an iPod. The camera is good but its a shame it doesn't have flash. The scroll wheel is excellent! They should have them on more phones. In conclusion it's worth buying! Only �70 exclusive to T-Mobile (UK) and you get a fair bit in the box as well..... 9/10

To get the camera pictures and videos onto the computer you need to install the software disc it comes with, then the computer should detect the usb hardware and install it self then when opening the software (the samsung logo on the desktop) go to file then connection, then onnect to the software then go to file manager and then you should be able to go to pictures and videos, then highliht them and drag them into a folder or the desktop and then that should be it...hope this helps you.

Here's is one tip for E-740 users...when ur watching video, press #(key) so that u can watch the video in Full Screen Mode.try it once.

why is it that my newly bought phone runs only roughly two days on normal operation. I mean if i used my other nokia phone with the same usage, they last for 3 to 4 days. Is this normal for samsung phones, shorter battery life?

Its great,,,, i was worry about the sound of its button, but atleast i could stop it,,, i will tell here how to turn it off,, it will help the user -- go to ph setting go to wall paper,, change it to normal or theme without any sounf then go back to setting & go to sound option then u can c key pad tone, u can turn it off now. I have been using this phone for a week now. This phone may not have the latest must have features such as wifi or even 3Gs. But it more than makes up for it as a capable music phone. Samsung is doing it right by having phones with similar features but with slightly different designs. Aesthetics play a big role in how the general public (not the techno geeks)choose their phones. As for the the Samsung e740, it matches my criteria in terms of aesthetic appeals and uniqueness. I choose this phone over more feature abundant phones because of the way it looks and the unique click wheel that it has. On top of that I never like a bulky handphone so I will not choose over the top phones such as N80, K880i etc. I realized that most of the time I will never use those high end features at all. Coming back to the e740, its features are on the middle ground. It takes decent pictures, plays music with an almost full featured software that can rival a full-fledged MP3 player and with great sound to boot. The clickwheel offers an interesting way to navigate around the menus. Definitely one of the more interesting sliders out there. The new menu interface is a marked improvement over the last generation of phones. Of course there are things that could be better made and one of them is the softness of the incoming call ringtones. It is noticeably softer compared to my previous Samsung e890. Also, Samsung could have offered more themes to make their phones more visually appealing. It is a waste of an excellent TFT screen that Samsung is well known for without many themes to support it. All in all, I like my e740. Kean

I bought this phone and everything went well until the memory card would not go in. In the instructions it says just give the memory card a light push to insert it. I took it back to the shop as i assumed it was faulty. The shop assistant then got it in- and told me you have to have long finger nails to put it in!! Did anyone else have the same problem?

i don't know how, but i know i did it! i shut off sound from the keypad! :) you have to choose some theme from setup, and after that you can get in keypad sound. ...and now i'm happy

To turn the kepyad sound off press the down arrow in the scroll key on the left side of the phone with no applications open on the phone. Keep on pressing the key until you see the "Key Volume" level as 0. That will turn off ur keypad tone.

To record a conversation, put the call on hold, Click on Options> Conv. Record and it would start recording ur conversation. Save the file once you have finished recording.

Anyone experienced sound issues with Java apps? The main problem I am trying to get to the bottom of is lack of sound immediately after a download. Once I download a Java app, the handset launches it immediately. On this launch, no sound plays at all throughout the application. However, if I relaunch the application myself, sound plays as expected. I've had other sound issues as well, perhaps caused by the fact that I cannot disable keytones (the option is there but is not selectable). There is a workaround if you put the phone into silent mode and then enable sound in Java apps, but its a bit lame. And when the hell am I going to get a Samsung that accepts simultaneous key presses! Is it too much to ask? Its impossible to enjoy a mobile phone game when the handset doesn't recognise more that one key press at a time =p
