nope wp 8 uses a completely different kernal from 7. the best you can do is 7.8 which has a few of the basic features added. I've been using it on this phone for a couple years now, its pretty servicible but I'm ready to upgrade

Remove the battery and charge for a little while on external charger then replace it, start up and then plug in charger. Then don't allow the battery to get too low. Works for me.

I bought this phone for my girl and it worked fine for a few days.. all of a sudden it cut off.. trying to charge it but just not happening.. the only thing the screen shows is the Samsung logo as if trying to boot up then nothing.. and when trying to charge it shows the battery very low then cut off. Dear Mr. Patel, Its very simple procedure. Just go to Menu by sliding Right, Now click on Market Place, There you click on apps & browse through different categories of apps you can find whats app, skype etc from social category. Hope this will help.

The phone has a purpose..but only the user of the phone can say how great it is..trust me this phone is great..but i have eared that some of them give problem meaning when turning on it turns off back..or when the phone battery is place in it turns on..i can tell u how to turn it on..but when things like this happen to ur phone its just a power problem that may cause that to happen..so u av to turn on the power button mean while holed volume up button the phone will turn on an off about 2 times before it actually come on now wen it comes on keep ur finger on the volume up button only until about 10sec after it is on...u can not lock ur screen or it will not going to turn on u would have to repeat the process thank you..hope this help

Hie kita, Yes this phone uses qwerty pad for texting u just need to have ur settings checked instead of compact keypad choose qwerty and there u go. hope this helps.

For about two years now I have been troubled by the keyboard on my Samsung Focus(es) becoming unresponsive. Now I have pinned it down to high humidity. As a triathlete I train with the phone either in my running pants pocket or in my cycling jersey. If I forget to put the phone in a ziploc bag and stick it straight into a pocket then go for a long bike or long run in the rain, presto, the keyboard will not work properly for days! The best way to make it recover is to put it ontop of my DVR for several days. The slightly warm, dry environment ontop of the DVR (digital video recorder)will make the keyboard recover. It does not hurt that the DVR is also on the fireplace mantle in my living room - a very nice dry, warm environment.

First of all, 7.8 is not Tango. 7.8 refers to build 8835. Tango refers to build 8773. The 7.8 (small tiles) hasn't been released yet. However, if you want it, people have cooked it up into custom ROMs on xda-developers site.

Hi Ya the phone supports all three spectrum bands as specified here... And if you are in India we use 2100 band for 3G, even if there is a reforming it will happen in 850 Band only hence wont be a problem..

Yes you can update your phone to 7.8. But the update is available only after Windows phone 8 is released. Once the WP8 is out, 7.8 update will be available after couple months or sooner is what Microsoft claims. One more good news is, WP8's most of the features(more than 65%) will be available thru 7.8 update... :)

The I917 Focus is a generation 1 device. It will not be upgraded to Winphone 8 (even second gen phones like the Lumia 900 won't get WP8). However, these will get the 7.8 update whose interface(among a few other things) will be same as the 8.

I recently bought this phone and was fully aware that it would require a windows update. I was able to update it to windows 7.5 and by inserting a 16gig sd card, and going to through a procedure outlined in the user's guide, the phone is now a full 24gig of memory. I have used this memory to download much of music and it works great! As for the phone itself, it works very well for me. I only wish that Pandora Radio was included as an app but, in this world you can not have everything. I highly recommend this phone.

As far as i know in Blackberry the mobile keeps checking the mails,fb and other stuffs .. the instant u receive any mail, there'll be a notification ! It was a feature that BB highlighted and sold their phone to business grade users until few years ago ! And in most of the other mobile devices (focus included) the frequency at which they check mails and stuff are much less (around 15 to 30 minutes, correct me if I'm wrong)! The people hub would be updated ONLY when u choose to click on the people tile and view the feeds ! FB chat would use ur data connection if u choose to be always online and it appears in the messages tile .. The notifications from fb and twitter(mentions and DMs) appear in the "ME" tab .. they are updated once between 15-30 minutes ! It for sure does not drain the battery life.. Not an issue to worry about

An awesome thing every windows phone user must try !! Its the windows phone unlock by "Jaxbot" of XDA , it gives interop access to ur phone .. In common terms its lyk jailbreak for ios , yes u can install paid apps for free on ur phone once u download their .xap files !! I've been using this in my focus for past few months and there have been no problems since ! other awesome apps which are home brew can be deployed only if u crack ur device .. one cool app is (sample lock screen pic : ) there is accelerometer disable , folder options , and file explorer in ur phone ( after u intall WP7 root tools ) ! give it a try .. u'll not regret :) forgot to add 3G-2G toggle, hotspot feature and stuff which WP7 supports but are blocked by AT&T , and lots of awesome stuff :D

Hey Abdul, plz try these steps: 1:Reset your phone(Soft reset) 2:Do not put any data onto your phone 3:Then try updating you phone. 4:if it doesnt work, pls do hard reset and try updating. Note: Every time you connect to your PC after reset, change sync relationship under settings in ZUNE, rename your phone and then it will install the update automatically. Hopefully it helps.

Dear Friend, Samsung focus is factory unlcoked mobile so if u hard reset it or update it to Mango u r mobile will not b locked so go ahead and update it to Mango, no issues at all. U can add up to 32 gb memory card to Samsung focus, buy according to your preference(memory card should b preferably above class 6 either sandisc,transcend r Kingston) and insert it. Switch of the mobile insert memory card and press power on button for a second n then simultaneously press volume up and down button and camera button n wait for the instructions, mobile will offer you to format it press the windows logo button and format it n then update it to Mango via Zune software, one important point never remove memory card after updating as it becomes total internal memory unlike other mobiles. Follow the instructions mentioned on the below site and select Zune sync instead of modem tethering call.. 2-if u want to use memory card, u need to hard reset ur fone. Please google it on how to perform the same u will find answers. Before u reset, the phone must be switched off, insert memory card then perform hard reset.. By doing this u will loose all ur data except contacts. Because your contacts will be synched once login back using your windows Id..

If you are able to by it form ebay, you can find there unlocked version and you will have no problems. I've bought mine last summer for $220 while I was in USA and now I'm in Europe and I don't have any problem. I love the phone, it's a great value for the money.

40 Days with my Samsung Focus!!! So far I am happy with the phone but there somethings which are missing and will be coming in the future updates.. I hope the following will clear all your questions;) 1)You need check APN settings under cellular settings (For Vodafone :APN is www, Airtel: airtelgprs.com(I think)) type the above info if u r a Vodafone/airtel user, other other operators I would say please walk into a store to get the settings and they will give you the settings. 2)The FM!! Worse!!! It cannot get worse than this!!:( I checked in many forums, everybody says its a hardware problem, basically its poorly engineered and needs a strong signal.. If you are within 5 KMS radius near the tower, works like a charm;) 3)Blue tooth transfer will come in the next update or the one after that(May be in march or April) and this has been confirmed by many forums, so please hold on to that and we are getting it:) 4)Ear phones which comes with phone aren't that great and I am currently using Sony Ericsson ear phones and they work pretty well!!! Ofcourse the equilizer is missing I dont know when Microsoft Engineers gonna Build one!! Preferably Media Player 12;);) 5)WMV format is what this phone supports and select all file types in the Zune File type settings and it will convert and transfer it to your phone... You can use third party converters (total video converter, which i use) to convert .avi, .mp4,etc to convert Xbox format and transfer it.. And it does support HD video, just convert it;) Over all its a very good fone and plz plz do not compare this with Android.. You can hardly do only 20% or even less that you can do on an Android phone...!!! This is'nt a awesome phone but Windows Phone OS is what this phone beautiful!!;) If you are crazy about some non-sense apps, i would say no to this phone. Since i m not crazy about apps, M in love with Focus:) Videos experience is amazing and much much better than Galaxy S2!! I have compared same Video with two phones and difference was very much visible!! If you have bough this phone any where between 13-14 K, plz dont regret cos its a good deal!! i am very pleased with this phone. i got it last november and i love using it everyday. i updated it to mango 7.5 without hassle. i just hope battery life is longer than 1.5-2 days. i can honestly say that it is better than my previous android phone in terms of performance and style. :-) the amoled screen is really the wow factor and its responsiveness even with a screen protector. calls are clear and the bluetooth communication with other devices like headset is flawless. one gripe... i hope is was released in southeast asia... i got mine from the us and here in the philippines, we have almost no sellers of accessories. have to buy from ebay. :-)

I ecently bought yhis fone from ebay (Rs 13,220 after discount). The phone is really nice and the bright and crisp display wins your heart. But you will have to put up with some minor irritants asscociated with Win 7.5 such as forced use of Zune Software for update and file transfer. MS could have given Windows explorer (like PC) and solved the file transfer issue. But they chose to force ZUNE software upon users (taking a cue from Apple?). For those who are new to smartphone, they will have to live with the fact that one needs to make several taps on the screen before making a call etc etc.(irritating at times) The win 7.5 interface is nice but one needs to understand the features of Win OS to make full use of it. Win Marketplace has many free apps now which are easyly available in marketplace. mercifully you don't have to depend only on zune to download and install apps (need wifi or GPRS). Its value for money as no other 4" super amoled phone is available at this price (bear in mind no warranty of any sorts). The warranty version (omnia W) costs appox 18+K in india but with 3.7 inch screen only.

Updating to Mango is now the most easiest process, download and install zune on ur pc or laptop and connect ur mobile to zune n rest will b taken care by zune. GPRS and 3g connectivity is bit of an issue with windows mobile after updating it to Mango. As u know this mobile is us at&t version so GPRS and 3g connectivity will drop and u need to restart to get the signals. No proper gprs settings for Windows mobiles from Indian telecom operators. The mango update is available in india !! works fine , the maketplace is also accessible and u can have an access to all apps provided that u sign up with a windows live id with your region as the United sates !! I'd advice u against going for windows mobile from android if ur more of an app person the apps available are very limited and most of them are paid !! the free ones aren't impressive !! But the super AMOLED screen is awesom-er than even HTC desire HD's LCD display .. if ur going for this mobile it should be for the screen and for the UI and live tiles and people hub of windows ..

I'd suggest that you download the connectivity shortcut from the marketplace. That will at least help you monitor when and how are you using EDGE/GPRS and not 3G. I have never had the same issue of having to restart since Mango update

The phone has good hardware and WP7 is just fun to use WP7 is great does not hand at all (so far). Mango is not available for Samsung focus v1.4 but for v1.3 is available (just to update there are 2 versions of phones v1.3 and v1.4, v1.3 is older one). Phone's performance is great and with Mango update just around the corner i would say its a good buy.

Got my unlocked AT&T branded Focus off ebay for real cheap. Works great on the telstra nextg network here in australia. Even works ok on the optus network just a bit slower due to only having edge connectivity on that network. they will have a problem, as they will be locked as soona s you update to the latest version of the OS - windows phone 7.5 mango and focus has been having several freezing and re-booting issues as well, so buying without warranty is not at all recommended !

Well I think the air is getting negative for this phone. Now to clear some doubts of some people i have few things to say. Don't be worried about teh warranty. Lets face it and it's true that I have not seen anybody to benefit from the warranty especially for samsung touch phones. The only problem could be that since it is not available in India any hardware problem would be difficult to solve. Apart from that it is the best windows phone available as can be judged by watching the reviews on youtube. Windows 7 platform is fantastic. Apps will surely increase and after mango update we can see very important updates happening. I have already the phone for 12,850 with 3 month emi option from cart2india and even got 650 cash back on my hdfc credit card. It's again listed on ebay at 12,500. In US u will get the same with contarct for 99$. Now common for this price, this phone is a steal. You can possibly do everything with the phone and with outlook in the phone and the fastest browsing experience, it will be a real fun as i already have wifi at home Just waiting for my phone to arrive will update more in some days. keep on posting guys

Frankly this phone has an impressive hardware and I would have totally gone for it but living in India, it could be a really bad choice. The biggest thing is the US warranty. I cannot take my phone to USA for anything which goes wrong. The phone is amazing but they should bring it to India as well else its useless for us.

I have had the Samsung Focus for a few months now, and I think that overall, it is a great phone. I can do almost anything I want to on it. There are a couple things that I don't like, and hope they change soon. I miss my customized ringtones, and the ones that came with the phone are ALL annoying! Another thing s the Marketplace apps. My boyfriend has an Android phone, so his apps are way cooler and mostly free. Any really cool apps I want, I have to pay for. That kinda sucks, but overall, I am very pleased with getting this phone :)

WP7 is still in development stage, so We can expect more stable OS on future build.. Am Running on NoDo, my Mobile is Fine and stable compared to Droid.. The Touch resistive buttons on the Bottom, sometime accidentlly Pressed while in Pocket when an SMS or an Miss call comes up.. Dono why they call it as Capacitive touch buttons.. You can see history of an particular number, how min or sec u have talked to it.. ( Love it on BB ) Copy & Paste functions saves the Copied text in Temp for few min only. After that we have to Copy it again.. ( IOS is better in it ) No Eq in Music Player.. But Zune Player is the best compared to IOS and Droid default Player.. Am Still waiting for the Mango update to roll out of Zune.. Will Post more info on this... Tips: Battery may drain Rapidly when u charge it at 60% to 100% or frm 40% something like tat.. U need to drain the battery till 10% or 20% and charge it all the way to 100% to make the Charge hold.. Or else u can see brain drain so fast..

The phone they are selling on Ebay appears to be the unsold Stocks of AT&T USA. Else they can sell such a high spec phone in India at that price. So buy at your own risk. If u are unlucky then u have to pay from your pocket for repair.

excellent excellent phone. Had it since pre-NoDo, and installed Mango on it in the beginning of July. WP7 just keeps getting better and better. Excellent camera quality for 5MP, above average audio quality through the headphones (nothing can compare with Sony Ericsson's), and overall excellent form factor. This is my first experience with a Samsung made smartphone, but it was overall been a pleasant experience. SAMOLED is the greatest screen technology available to date. 8.5/10 - Overall Cons: Hate the build quality, cheap plastic. Going from aluminum phones from HTC and SE to this was a bit of a downgrade, but the phone has survived multiple drops and mishandling due to my inebriated activities so in hindsight, maybe samsung made the right choice.

Lol to clear call history you can hold finger at one call and choose clear or simple in the lower part of the screen choose 3pts and select clear all history.. The os rocks especially when it will be updated to mango.. It will get skype,flash and multitasking

your phone was damaged by water probably ... water felt on it for sure ... i used my phone at the bath avoiding water to fall on it .. it works even in air with high humidity .. in such conditions you must protect the weak places like backplate with place for dynamics near camera , and some places near touchscreen ... you did not respected the terms of use and your phone died .. mine works in such air with humidity ... this phone is great anyway so dont tell us lies .... it has hi specs and it passes crash tests easily ...

Phone is ok, can't download ring tones. Phone died on me after 2 months. Send for repair...phone died as a result of getting wet. Apparently, or so I was told, this phone is so sensitive to moisture that if it comes in the bathroom with you when you take a shower you can trigger the sensor, or if there is a lot of humidity in the air the sensor will also trigger. Since I KNOW I never dropped the phone in water. I never would have gotten the phone had I known this since I now have an $89 phone to replace this $600 phone and have 2 years and 10 months left in a contract with it. Not impressed at all!!

i own this phone and i do love it. Pros: 1. The marketplace is a piece of cake and very easy to search for apps in it and easy to install. 2. The people hub holds all contacts of friends and can easily switch between them/contact them on fb/email/text. 3. the touch experience is amazing and very responsive. 4. integration with xbox live... you name it! cons: 1. wish facebook was integrated inside the system instead of individually loading fb contacts and linking them to msn ones. 2. camera doesn't capture images in wide screen... for me a big con :( 3. battery lasts for one day only, although i'm not a heavy user at all. 4. no equalizer in zune player.

I love my phone with a passion. Camera is amazing, battery is decent, lots of apps to choose from, works well with internet and Facebook, text messages are in IM form which I LOVE(easy to see what they said previously and just ahh), also can hold music, calendar is very good, and many other things. I only have a few issues with it. 1- You can't personalize/buy ringtones. You chose from what they have, that's it. I was very disappointed with that. 2- While texting I've noticed that it often freezes in the middle of a text and I have to lock and unlock the phone in order to get it to unfreeze. It is veryyyy annoying, especially during a long text. 3- Opening screen. I like how we can pick a picture to put as our lock backround, but I wish we had a better way to personalize our locks. The only option is a 4 number code. (this isn't really bad, but just would make it better) A few tips- THE BACK BUTTON, it can be your best friend! Say you are in the middle of a long text but need to check Facebook or take a picture, you can do these things then push the back button until you get back to your original text looking exactly the way it did when you left it. I think it only lets you go back like 6 or 7 times, but still it's great. The camera. I randomly noticed that it had started making the flash noise again(it hadn't been doing it before). It was annoying because I could no longer take pictures when I needed to be quiet. It didn't stop even if my phone was on vibrate or silent. What tends to make mine go back to silent is if I turn the volume all the way up and go to youtube and watch a random video and then in the middle turn the sound all the way down til it's on vibrate. That tends to make the flash noise stop. You may have to try a few times, but it usually works. You'll have to redo it EVERY time you turn the sound up though. Kinda frustrating but worth it in the long wrong. hoped this helped. :)

Well i've had this phone for a few weeks now and so far i absolutely love it. The screen produces crisp colours and the blacks are so black that you cant tell where the screen ends when its dark. Windows phone 7 is great, very responsive and intuitive. The only downside of this phone is sometimes big games take around 3-5 seconds to load (need for speed) and it is a little difficult to find a good case

am interested in buying the focus. just want to know how usable this fone is without wifi/3g access. I realize the UI depends a lot on internet access and unfortunately I only have access to a meagre edge/gprs for most of the day and wifi at night. Can some focus owners tell me if this phone is still fast irrespective of the internet speed and whether it becomes a useless brick for just calling, texting and office!! I am mainly buying this fone for the music (zune) and would also like to know how well laid out the music player is and how easy it is to sync stuff with zune player. (honestly i tried syncing some items with itunes for the 1st time and OMG, it was soooo rigid). I hope the zune interface is easier to use!! discharge the phone, means killing the battery completely at first use, then a full 100% charge afterwards, guarantees a strong battery, also dont let the battery drain below 20% and youll get the full power of the battery and a phone that will last 36hrs at full use, and 60hrs on average use, ive personally been able to get 72hrs, by turning brightness down and wifi/bluetooth off while still browsing on the internet frequently

Hi. You can use a stylus for Samsung Focus, but it is not the same as for a resistive touch screen. They are specially made for capacitive touch screens. You can order one on the web if you prefer that over using your fingers, but in my opinion it is a waste considering the screens and soft buttons are big enough. If you are worried about finger smudges then I suggest using a screen protector and have some cleaner with a soft cloth handy.

I've had my Focus (from Rogers CA but operating in Australia), for a few days now and just wanted to post about the phone. It is wonderful!! Love it - I was able to get NoDo installed on it and afterward Samsung had an update for BT and Samsung Now (their live tile). I have had numerous phones and have to say this is one nice OS and well thought out. Okay there are customise options that would be great to have, like adding personal ringtones, changing sensitivity of the screen, but I'm sure these will come. You may have heard, as I have, the interface is 'buttery smooth', (and I thought to myself, yeah right), but it's true!! Clean OS and very fluid. If you are serious about getting yourself an efficient phone that will let you do everything without fiddling or configuring. If it is for work or play it can handle both very easily - I seriously urge you to get one of these phones. Seriously! You can thank me later... :)

Amazing phone. Had a Nokia (5800) before so I would rather try Samsung(the best of the WP7 so far) this time around. Really prefer the WP7 UI more than the symbian(which wasn't too bad, I like the customizi-bility). But WP7 is simple yet convenient especially for heavy social network/email/text users. the battery last anywhere between 1 to 3 days, control how often facebook and email update will help alot, and dont forgot to discharge your phone a few times, makes a world of difference, windows 7 is so easy to use, tpinning everything from contacts to alarm clocks to one-note documents makes using a cell phone so much easier, oh and it does have multitasking, when you open a new app, and click the back button it loads the last spot used in the previous app, not perfect but a great find

Ultimately, when on the move with public transportation, you may use a pocket sized portable device powered by AA batteries (or rechargeable ones) which has all types of connecting plugs. An update to windows 7 phone that adds the copy & paste function along with other fixes will be released in February and will demo it at CES this week. As for what phone is better it depends on how you will be using it. Captivate is running Android so you will have more apps and the capability to multi-task applications if that�s important to you.

I've had this phone for a while now and I really like it. I'm coming from an iPhone 3GS and the Focus is much better overall. The Focus is super fast and snappy at doing everything. Currently it doesn't have 3rd party multitasking nor copy and paste but Microsoft is scheduled to release the 1st update in January/February. Zune software blows iTunes away in all factors. Someone debating between the Focus and Surround, go with the Focus because it's better. At the moment the Focus is the best WP7 phone available.

uuuummmm to clarify. Samsung DOES NOT have a dual core in their phones yet. It will be the orion processor and be released next year 2011 q1 possibly in the galaxy s 2. As of right now there is none!!!!!! the fastest processor they have is the hummingbird 1 ghz in use. The focus and the omnia 7 are the only windows 7 phones from samsung. pls do your homework before you comment and get peoples hopes up.

My friend Samsung didn't released dual-core 1.4Ghz Snapdragon. What Samsung YET to release is a 1.0Ghz dual-core Orion processor built on ARM Cortex A9 45nm. And it is expected to be release on Q1 2011 and there is no official news on which phone or what model it will be use. Samsung Wave 3 is still a hearsay, and I hope it won't be a Wave model because it will use BADA OS, I hope instead release a new model using Android OS. Remember Wave = Bada. Snapdragon by Qualcomm, on the otherhand, will release its 1.2Ghz dual core processor by the end of this year or Q1 2011 but expected to put it on any phone by early 2011, maybe Q1 or Q2.

Tethering not available makes this of limited use for me; I love the phone otherwise, but Samsung says the modem is there; AT&T tech support says it isn't there and not sure if it will be available Thats what they said about the Samsung Captivate Android phone and now tethering is available. I don't really want to go to Android. I've waited for a year for this phone and now it won't do what I need it to do

When will the Samsung Focus be available in the Philippines? Is there no issues with the microsd card? I have read at engadget.com about problems with the read/write with the microsd, conflict with the WP7 OS. If anyone has information about this please do share. I would like to get this rather than the HTC WP7 because of the expansion memory.

Features look great though I'm not sure if it stands out among other WM7 phones. In fact, I don't know if any of the planned WM7 launch phones distinguish themselves well at all. For starters, why are they all soooooo big? I use my HTC HD2 (aussie model) as my regular phone and find it just inconvenient because of its size. I also have an iphone 3GS which is just about the perfect size for me. I do realize others have their preference also but my reason is simply to be able to put it in my front pocket comfortably. Right now, the HD2 does not fit that bill and the dimensions in all the new WM7 launch models are headed down the same path. :-((( Was gonna get a WM7 phone at launch but given the current models, I'll continue to swap between my HD2 and 3GS. Does anyone know if anything is in the works for smaller/shorter units while still packing great features?

It has MicroSD slot, but it wont show as a separate storage, it will show as a total phone memory. (If you insert 32GB card, it will show as phone has 40GBs) Since you can only install apps on phone memory, that is a wonderful solution. It has a scratch and smudge proof Super AMOLED screen, which means super crisp bright colors and no need for screen protectors. For example Motorola Droid X has TFT screen, you need a screen protector.

This appears to be a fantastic device and I would purchase it in a heartbeat if it weren't for one thing; a QSD8250 Snapdragon processor? WTH? Not that a 1ghz processor is anything to scoff at, but come on, this processor is a first gen. Snapdragon that was released in late 2008! This would also mean that the GPU would be the Adreno 200 which if I understand correctly, has only a fraction of be processing power of the SGX535 found in the iPhone 3GS for example. The Captivate running Samsung's Hummingbird has the SGX540 GPU which out performs even the iPhone 4. The fact that Samsung would use such an antiquated processor/gpu in a device with so much potential, running such a highly anticipated spanking new OS, is just mind boggling and for me a real deal breaker.
