A the end of the day i have too 20-30% of battery, but of course this 30% will die very quick if you compare this to the new phone. But still love this phone

Had the phone for more than 2 years now, and boy it's a great phone. Only thing I notice is that the battery is now degraded, and what I meant by that is that the phone wont last a day. By the end of the day, I usually have about 22% battery life left, which was not the case when I first had the phone. But I will surely keep this phone till it dies on me. One of the cheapest phone u can get with IP68 Rating.

I probably wouldn't. This is by far the cheapest Samsung you can get with USB-C, IP rating and Samsung Pay. After A8 (2018) and A8+ (2018), we haven't seen such features on Galaxy A series.

Good Overall phone.. i've been using this phone since 2017.. and is still usng it. Looks like new with minor scratches. Never had any problem except the hardware is now inferior compared to available alternatives now. No regrets for buying this phone

Its ok.. i have tried my 2tb hdd through otj by using the NTFS app on playstore, and it worked! No need to format the hard drive like you just mentioned. But i will also try your idea on my other hdd.

Ups, sorry. I checked right now my two HDD 1Tb and they work on OTG , phone see HDD but he is in NTFS so I cant use it, you need to format this to FAT32 or exFAT. I Was thinking that this will not work but it work. Sorry for mistake

No. Im not changing phone which is very good just because it dont have PIE. I will change this phone maybe after 3 years of using or maybe even after 4y. I will just change the battery for 50$ and I will be happy with almoust new phone. Tell me one reason why you need PIE. What is so exciting in new android, that you need to spend another 400$ for phone with new android system? Why people change things which is not broken and still working good. To much money?

A5 2017 remained after J7 2016, which also went with Marshmallow 6.0.1 but in the last update at the end of 2018 it received Oreo 8.1.0! And the A5 2017 model from the higher range and newer has been blocked at Oreo 8.0.0. Shame on Samsung! J7 2016 Marshmallow 6.0.1. ,Nougat 7.0 in October 2017 and Oreo 8.1.0 in November- December 2018.

Yes you should!! I had both and the a5 2016 sold it after a month! It was so slow so many lags it's nothing compared to the a5 2017 I bought afterwards. It's been two years I have it and it works like the first day even the battery it's great 5 hours of screen use.

There is no major difference between A5 2017 and J7 2017! the first one appeared in January 2017 and J7 in July 2017. what is really strong that J7 received Oreo 8.1.0 a much more stable version than 8.0.0. and now the J7 2017 gets Pie 9.0 with One UI 1.1 louder than the A8 2018 that just received One UI 1.0

The official A5 2017 does not appear in the Android 9 update calendar, so I do not think there are anymore chances to get Android 9.0. He had to move it to Android 8.1.0 because 8.0.0 is a jerk. J5 2017 and J7 2017 at least received 8.1.0 a better and more stable version and now will be passed to Android 9 and the A5 2017 remains stuck in Android 8.0 is not right so

I did the purchase of A70 but will be waiting for few more days for the arriving of different cases I already purchased a week before and to start using it safely. True, even though a5 is a great phone it's had to process we won't have major softwares updates anymore but I really think this has a purpose; Samsung released a great serie of intermediate phones of course they want us to buy the new ones and that's why they won't update our phone and many others.. Like many others I'm considering moving to the Samsung a40 the most similar in dimensions to a5 2017. Love the new screens so big 85% of the phones! We'll see I still have hopes

My have 1.5 year, and I hope he will work at least 2.5 years, then I will switch to A70 to. Its sad that A70 dont have IP68 and OIS in every camera mode, but what to do... my priority is battery capacity.

Me to I am using A5 (2017) from more than 2 years. Great phone 2 years ago and still working not bad. I can return this phone and have 100$ from it. Now the cost of the A5 new is 200$. Yes the phone loose the water protection and after 6 months or 1 year it is the same as a phone without IP68 as this one have when it is new. Never dropped in water. Always in special cases in summer and winter. Samsung in my opinion is working and developing great the A series. We are having 4K videos and other electronic devices in use. The higher A series number are really a great choice for the money. Yes they are not glass but this means not heavy. In special cases they last longer. In August I will definitively switch to A70. I bet this new phone will be competitive for at least 3 or 4 years depending on use surely. Android 9 Pie, One UI ect.....128 GB internal memory, 6 GB ram, 4500 mah battery and many other features......I have decided.

That's what my A5 2017 did. I solved the problem with authorized samsung service! my motherboard has been changed. I did not pay anything was in the warranty. Today in Romania A5 2017 received a software package of 124.73 MB and security level is on 1 June 2019

New Samsung phones are impressive! If we don't get Pie I think as soon as it get to Argentina I will replace it with Samsung A40 great phone size very similar to a5 and a huge screen! better processor and camera, more Ram, bigger storage .. It will be hard I love our phone but it's hard to process we won't have any other software updates, it's hard even to find cases and I look for them in many countries and it's the same I think that is because is a phone that is discontinued now..

I have been using this mobile since around two years. In the time it was released it was a good phone. Over the past two years, of course mobile phones got more advanced with more features. I can tell that new phones have more powerful processors and more advanced cameras and batteries. However, in terms of rigidity and powerful outer interface, a metallic frame and glass back, a corning gorilla glass 4 touch screen are much better than a plastic frame and back and a corning gorilla glass 3. Also, the lack of super Amoled screens in some newer A series phones especially in 2019 to the replacement to LCD or TFT screens is a bad downgrade. Another missing feature is the USB type C and getting back to micro USB especially in 2018. A last note is that kicking off the waterproof resistance is a very bad downgrade. As a result, newer A series phones should combine the advanced features of newer phones but keep the rigidity of older A series phones to keep the series on its powerful track.

No, you wouldn't. 2 OS updates is the industry standard, which the A5 got. On top of that we're still getting monthly security patches. What's the issue?

I had this trouble and the USB charging pin was dirty. I took it to Samsung thinking it was broken and they solved it, it works great now. Try cleaning it with a needle or something simmilar

Long time ago I said this phone doesn't worth it; I was accused of troll. (My comment still here) I still say, it is a BAD phone for the original asking price. The back scratches, the touch of the screen is erratic, the camera sucks, the UI is lagging, and finally, no updates. No wonder that Samsung is loosing market.

It's ridiculous the only software this phone received was the software from 2017 which is android 8. This phone came in 2017 with 2015 software which is android 6. This is a cheat!!!

Try to clean charger port with something sharp (non metalic to avoid damage).Dirt getting in and stick to the bottom of the port . i had same problem and solved in this way. USB-C its prone to that problem .

Because there is no reason to have PIE. First generations of android have big changes but after Nougat 7.0 there is no major update in Oreo 8.0 In my job I have people with Android 4 and they dont need newer. But like I said, im old and im not playing on this phone and im not showing this at school sayin "look at me I have the newest android,kiss my feet im a king" i dont care about updates.

I think there is no need and reason to be "sick" about why not Pie and why Oreo on our phone. Until this will work normally and without problems and stuck like inferior models do, I guess this is OK. We all know that this is only a good middle range model with only 3GB of Ram. Until this will work as it is working for me, even on Oreo platform, I don't see any reason to do a upgrade to another model.

Hahah, no im just 27 years old guy, who only use this phone for GPS and maps, when im walking in the mountains ^^. So I do this on Samsung Wave with BADA 2.0 software, and I Can do this on android 5.1 too :) Oreo is good.

Has anyone had problems with mobile data not working, in my case when mobile data is on it doesn't connect with internet. I checked the access point settings, they are fine, tried taking the SIM out and putting it back again, tried restarting the phone, tried reseting the network settings and tried each option in network mode, but nothing helped. 😑 Has anyone got any idea what else can I try?

This phone have 2 years and 3 months, so I think this is normal, you cant buy this. In Poland there is only few places where you can buy it, and I think they are the last ones. There is slowly a problem with buying A8 2018, so I think this is normal for mid range phones after 2years on the market

Yuhuuuu!!!!!! In Romania the second software update is coming right now for A5 2017! The package has 89.93 MB and includes the latest security level for March. Security pach 1 March. I can not believe that after a package of 234.00 MB the second software package comes with 89.93MB for March while the A8 2018 is still on February 1, 2019

Nobody said that A5 have Oreo 8.1, we said that A5 have 8.0, and people want to have 9.0, and we said that it will never have 9.0 because they dont give us even 8.1 so if they dont give 8.1, then why they should give us 9.0? I hoped you understand :). I really dont care about 8.1, 9.0, 10.0, the phone is working and thats what i care. I have apps what will never be updated for soft higher than 8.0 , so if I will download Pie, then I will kill them and stay with non usable phone for me. :)

Yes but I do not think so! A5 2017 does not appear on any official samsung list for updating to Android 9.0 Pie. I changed it to A5 2017 in January 2019 with A8 2018. only the J 2017 J7, J5 and J3 2017 series will appear or receive 9.0 Pie while the A5 2017 remains at 8.0.0 Oreo! Very bad

Poor job by Samsung. Not even a year since it is being used, and now it is not working. The problem is the "no service" problem that it ia very common for most Samsung models, not only this one. I cannot make or receive calls. The camera is also doing not a good job for photos in the night. Daylight photos are very good. Stay away from Samsung. Their phones are not worth paying even 5 euros anymore.

And if I get another I need to pay $217.00, if I send it to be repaired of course they will send it back and tell me my phone is ok and I have to deposit $75.. for a loaner, I am so frustrated right now I think if I had a gun I would shoot them all. I have a Fido contract and I heard yesterday february 21 st Fido belongs to Rodgers. To me I am being exploited and at 73 I dont need this crap, yes the phone is crap, Samsung is crap and for Rogers not doing anything. I lm on my hold age security and dont have a house phone. I think I have done what I could and still have the noisy phone for how long???When I have $237. to end this contract and go somewhere else for a phone...Please dont buy a Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) plain crap./

In Romania there was a January update of about 2 weeks ago for the A5 2017. On the A8 2018 I have not received my update for January. For the moment, samsung has not announced any update to Android 9.0 Pie for A5 2017

I did not like the system stutters, the screen touch sensitivity in not uniform; some areas needs firm press feel the touch, other areas respond even before touching, just hovering over. The screen is less vibrant than other samsung phones. For the same price, I bought HTC U11 with better camera, triple the storage, douple the RAM, better screen touch, better audio. I do not compare the phones (I know one is flagship and other is a midranger). For curious fellaws, 250$ :~))

@Jaro Yes, in very cold conditions phone is prone to shutting down and loosing juice. That's normal and common in many smartphones with lithium ion batteries. Nothing to worry, it should be fine over 2C, keep it warm and don't switch it right back on if it discharge, warm it first and than try

Yesterday I was in the mountains, there Was temperature around -7C (17F) , after 4.5h houers of walking the baterry drop from 67% to 0% in one moment. This is the 3rd time when this phone is quickly dying in cold weather. The phone was in my pocket in trousers for all the time with GPS and Lte turn on. this phone is rubbish,after update my battery drained so fast. In car it doesn't charging. MY borther has the same model and it was constant 100% battery,but my phone drained so fast during charging in the car! ! Service said that it gets sparks on motherboard and etc. they said more than 10.000 a5 phones 2017 has problems with battery. IT something with hardware or software. I will never buy samsung phone again.

Well, I am using it for 2 years now. I can say, this phone survived fresh water, rain and even salt water (I have been recording underwater videos many times). Pretty fast, 3 GB RAM is very good for multitasking and high performance. The only and I mean ONLY bad thing is the Main Camera. It;s good on daily light but It is REALLY bad at night and there is no OIS and no 2k or SloMo video. The front camera is good but there is no focus, it's a fixed focus camera on about 50cm.

It's been a year since I have an A5 and the performance is very good. Battery lasts up to 24h at full usage (I have to say that it lasted almost 4 days in a row, but with no signal, just photos). I dropped it many times on the floor and in water and it didn't break. About Huawey...I can't say much. My sister has a P10 lie for about a year and it sucks.. when battery is reaching 20% it's decreasing very fast to 0% and it has too many lags. Don't recommend. Have a nice day

First, Settings > Device Maintenance > Optimise. Second: Touch the Battery icon then look down the list of Apps to see which is using the power. Any apps which are frequently checking for updates will increase the battery usage.

simple fact, go the photo-comparison tool in GSMarena, compare the photos of galaxy A5 2017 with any similarly priced phone (now 275$ online) from any other manufacturer, and come back and tell us what you find. I found that it camera is a down side in A5, especially in low light photos ( again comparing it to similarly priced phone).

Hey again jimi. Android pie for samsung will come with new samsung expirience ui called "One ui". That ui is pretty much based on "big screen" phones (5.6' and above) because it will help in one handed ussage. You can chek that out on youtube. If that update hit A5, A7 and so on, it must come with one ui and with that UI, you can't be productive because of 5.2'. It's not a small screen by any mean, but, for that particular update, just it isnt made. This phone hardware can def. Handle 9.0 (A5 '17 for exp. Have better cpu, gpu (and so on) than the A6, A6+ and toe to toe with A7. (All phones above will get the update) So you understand what i'm talking about. It can support it, but it doesn't have sense and need to do so. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask them!

New android version is sign of newer phone, despite lack of Android pie (for now and maybe in future) this phone will get security patch updates, so no, you don't have to switch phone, because all apps and everything will work same on android 8 and 9. this phone held well actually. it is a good all-round phone if you get it for a bargain price. the 2 major disappointments are the: 1- CAMERA 2-Display camera is definitely not good, not what you would expect from Samsung or A series. just to give idea, similarly priced xiaoumi, HTC, or Nokia will give a better photo quality. most of the time out of focus, less sharp details. The Display is OK, but not what you would expect from Samsung mid-range. I did side by side comparison (same video played, the same time, same brightness level, same WIFI, same video quality) that galaxy j6-2018, j7 duo 2018, Alcatel Idol 4s and HTC U play had better video quality as played on their respective screens than the galaxy A5. Other than this the phone is very good: 1- batter life excellent 2- no heating at all, except during charging 3- very good for the day to day tasks 4- EXTRAS: IPs rating, (some water protection) Dual sim+micro SD, FM radio, USB on the go, NFC, Finger print scanner, security patch updates, and always on display. Not usual to find all of them in one mid-ranger smartphone

Here is a difference between the J Series and the A Series !!The J Series receives software updates at 3 or 6 months depending on the model! The A5 2017 and the A8 2018 are the few models that receive updates every month immediately after the S9 S8 and the A5 2017 is maintenance-free at least until the end of 2020. If we also count on starting with an outdated Android version 6.0.1 Marshmallow might change things the way J7 2016 received the second update to Android 8.1.0 when no one else believed

J series always come with one android version newer than A series, that's why A and J series always finish with same Software. This year is not exception either. I have had countless phones since 1988, recently in the last three years I have had Motorola but last year changed to a Samsung A5, it is without doubt the worst phone I have ever owned, it freezes, stops and shuts down and it's getting more frequent, my provider wants me to send it in to check but will not give me a replacement, so no phone for sometime which these days is unthinkable, decided to wait till I can change to a different phone and provider, so much for Samsung 🙄

I have Oreo , and I'm very happy with this. I don't need Pie. Why should I need new uodate, when this soft is ok for my phone? The Nougat was nice too, but in Oreo they finally change options in sound, so now im not changing volume of my ring tone when im pressing buttons when im watching video. And this is the only option what I miss in Nougat (7). Why people always need newest software? This change anything? Security update of course I want, but android version is not big deal for me. Maybe im too old and maybe I dont undestand young people this days. All apps are working on Oreo and Nougat.

There is no big difference between Samsung Experience 9.0 and 9.5, however, there are small differences and the menu on the camera is changed. However, it does not seem right for the J7 2016 to be upgraded (upper version) and the A5 2017 to remain a lower version of Android. I think he will get Pie 9.0 right after the A8 2018. We'll see soon!

Apart from flagship models, Most phones lack of OIS, and EIS is usually used only for video in some midrange and upper models... So the problem is not the lack of stabilization in the phone or literally millions of phone cameras would be useless.

Try another new card MicroSD. If it does not work and it still shows that the MicroSD card is not inserted it means you have to go to a samsung authorized service.

I've had this phone for a year and a half and the main camera have been improved with the monthly updates. I take many pictures almost every day and most of them are amazing. And I take most of them while I'm in a moving vehicle. It's very snappy and dynamic range is pretty decent.

The battery life of my A5 wasn't very good after the Oreo Update showing "Cell standby" draining way more than the screen itself. The battery used to last barely a day and I had to plug the phone every night. I received the August security patch (very late btw) and now I get a SOT of about 7h on wifi and lte sometimes. The update fixed the issue and I think I won't update it anymore.

We should also get on the A5 2017 Android 8.1.0 because the J5 2017 and J7 2016 will also receive them. It is not fair that the J series models have better Android and A5 2017 it only remains at 8.0.0. If the A5 2017 stays at 8.0.0 means you should be eligible to receive Android 9.0 Pie.

I updated once, not with the latest on September, still waiting. The update solved some issues. Though there is one huge issue still unsolved... Sometimes after some activity on the phone, mainly calls - if I happen to leave it to close by itself it goes on its lock theme and just remains there, no clock, no nothing, not going on the always on display screen, just frozen on the lock theme. If I press the fingerprint key it opens OK. why does this freeze happen at all???? I do not have many apps and not unusual ones....

Everything works fine for me. I had no problem with updating. You probably need a general reset. I installed the latest update with September 20 and I did not have a problem.

However, I think the always-on display is only on when the phone is exposed to light. Put it face down or in your pocket and it goes off. Either that or it uses a lot less than 1% per hour as my A5 usually uses around 20 to 25% battery per day with light usage.

This is easily the worst Samsung I have ever had. Half the time it tells me I am not connected when I am sitting 3 foot from the hub using a laptop that is connected! Its much slower than my old one (Samsung A3) and is about my 5th Samsung in a row. When I use it to do a search it seems to take a long time and then trying to open a page ... Its quicker to turn on my laptop and use that! When I get an email my tablet alerts me about 3/4 mins before my phone! Not gonna have another Samsung or a long contract in the future!

marshmallow = 8 hrs sot (16%left),no issues with device idle and cell standby always below 7% usage nougat = 6 hrs sot some times 7 hrs if lucky, 400 to 500 mah for cell standby and 200 to 300 mah for device idle oreo = 5 to 6 hrs sot , 500 to 800 mah cell standby 200 to 300 mah for device idle with each major update battery life went on single 2 days to 1 day (if lucky)

It seems that for some regions (countries) it was delayed updating to Oreo 8.0 for A5 2017 by October 31. 2018 end date. But it is possible to come back in September. It was announced on the Samsung Members Page. You still have a little patience! You do not have to panic and sell your phone! A5 2017 is a great phone! Everybody will receive Oreo update!

Had a few Samsung phones over the past 5 years yet the A5 is the pits. It never came in contact with water or moisture yet the alarm goes off and you must restart the phone if you want to charge it. It decide on its own it does not have an sim card in it - and you can only make emergency calls. I am tied in a 2 year contract with this phone and Vodacom cannot/would not help me.

It's one of the most popular ROMs for the A5 2017 made by a trusted developper on XDA. Literally no chance it's malicious in any way. But you have to note that by flashing anything other than stock you will trip Knox counter and void the warranty. Also if Knox is tripped Samsung pay won't work

It's not true! S6 receive 3 update major ! 5.0.1 - Lollipop 5.1.1. Lollipop, 6.0.1 Marshmallows and 7.0 Nougat! But in the meantime, the situation has changed and is not excluded from receiving an update at 9.0 Pie, especially as the A5 2017 will receive maintenance updates until at least January 2020

This and the last patch have problem with fast charging. It never reach the 100% on Quick Charge. Its stuck on 100% and show charging 100% and thats it. Maybe its your data limit, try to turn off the data limit on your setting>data usage>mobile data usage>setting. As long as you have storage space ,your device can install updates.

The processor of the a5 is better than the A6. Otherwise the A6 has a better cam and will receive android P. But the a5 has fast charging and type c and also water-resistance which the A6+ doesn't. The update calendar tells us about the A5 2017 that will finish on 31.08.2018. That means by the end of August means you have to receive Oreo 8.0

You can't compare the A5 2017 to that crappy A6, only to the A8 2018. If you prefer 16:9 aspect ratio screens then go for A5 or A7 207. If you want a tall 18.5:9 screen then go for the A8 or the S8 if you can afford it.

To all the people who have experienced overheating problems with this phone: I hadn't had the issue until I installed the SideSync app to make a backup of the phone in my computer. Just right after unplugging the phone from the computer it turned very hot in the left side of the phone and the battery was draining very fast. I uninstalled the app and the phone went back to normal. I already reported the issue through the Samsung Members app but every one reading this post should try it and if the same happens then report it too in the Samsung Members app so they fix the problem. I'm using Oreo with the June security patch but have never used SideSync before so don't know if the issue was already happening with Nougat.

Yeah, it sucks that there's still no NFC toggle, but that's not a huge deal at least for me. And as for slower 4G speeds in the Nokia 6.1 (not sure if that's actually the case or if it's just a typo from GSMA's end) that's purely a hardware limitation. I'll take smoothness and looks of pure Android any day over gimmicky features offered in Samsung UX.

I think the main reason for buying a galaxy phone is because of amoled display and its beautiful deeper blacks and punchier colours but if we we look at the other side Samsung lacks stability in their ux, way behind other competitors in terms of software update, very pricey when it's launch, no sense of making glass back phone until you include wireless charging in short Samsung lacks a lot of things in many department. Nokia is going to be a huge name in near future in an android after pixels.

I cannot disagree with you that stock Android is much smoother and updates is quicker. But as I said my observation (and experience) tells me Samsung UX seem to have features and quirks that are a bit more "useful". For instance a 2018 phone such as the Nokia 6.1 should have an NFC toggle (despite having NFC and having no shortcut toggle is mind boggling), a faster Cat6 (& above) 4G LTE speeds,etc.

It's going fine! I found this O smother and faster. I didn't notice any change in the battery no heating or anything wrong. The look is almost the same than before I would have like to see a change but everything is good. I recommend this update ! Ive had Moto and Samsung phones in the past 12 months and I have seen their UI/UX improve a lot. Yes I agree Motorola updates sucks coz its so slow, people are angry and Moto-Lenovo don't seem to care. Samsung has cleaned up its UX so much that with its current iteration (Samsung Experience 9.0) seem to be more optimized than Moto; in this regard I think Samsung's UX is much more refined and the small added features outclass that of Motos. I had both the A5 2017 and the Moto X4 and they both easily lasts a full day. So its really a choice of which UX one likes or suits their needs. I despise stock Android beacuse it's "purity" dosn't help with my needs. For example things such as a phone having NFC but stock Android doesn't allow an NFC shortcut toggle, the Google Photos app is good but sometimes you have to "download" the photo on to the device before editing & sharing it to your social media feeds whereas "Album" by Sony Xperia and "Gallery" with Samsung i still think is more flexible with more features.

In my opinion (and based on my research) Motorola is slow with updates because of Lenovo. Samsung is slow with updates because of their bloatware UI but has since streamlined it. The irony of both is that with their respective issues with updates most of their devices have above average battery life. But I do agree with your assessment that Samsung maybe better with updates. The A5 2017 for instance. Being a two year old device and currently receiving a 10-month old OS (Oreo) in most EU markets, having the newer Samsung Experience UX 9.0 plus monthly (I could be wrong. It maybe every other month) security updates makes it slightly better than Moto. Would you agree to these?

Only can tell you that I have a Motorola moto g 2015 and since Lenovo has the hand on Motorola, updates suck like they were late releasing marshmallow and we never got nougat: only one major update.. when they launched the moto devices they said one of the best point would be updates.. so even though they took some time to update to nougat, Samsung ain't that bad.

I noticed that too after I got oreo. I did a factory reset it, now I am getting more or less the same percentage as the SOT. What's very strange is that now is showing a big usage from the youtube app, even thought I am not using it extensively. I think the battery usage is messed up.

I was talking about the battery.. I know it normal but what wanted to say is that normally it remains cool (30c) but when I comes to using mobile hotspot (the phone put on a table) it goes up to 41 in a few minutes.. I guess it is only bc that consumes lots of battery so it heats up the phone...

I've been using oreo update since 1 week. Soo far so good, i dont experience any issue about this new update, i can say that the battery improved a lot and last longer compared to the last version. Its also a must to frequently optimize your device to save up space, ram and close unused apps, it really help guys. Just add a widget of optimization to your home screen and frequently click it.

Mine does too when it is charging, 4g and mobile hotspot enabled it can reach 41°c. And also when GPS and 4g are enabled, it's like 37°c which is still ok but when I bought the phone, i took some reviews into account saying that it never goes beyond 33°c which ain't my case and probably not yours too..

Battery timing is slightly improved, I'll suggest to update on oreo whenever you get in your region, better than nougat, plus a new feature picture in picture is there but only YouTube red subscriber can use it not work on regular YouTube app....in VLC player it works and a handy feature it is....do let me know if you want any other information.

I've got oreo update on my A5 2 weeks ago in Pakistan...user interface is mostly same only some settings menu things changed... now can download more always on display pictures direct from Samsung store plus 2 new always on display clock style...speed is improved and ram management also but i got much lower score on antutu after update than on nougat...camera interface is not much changed almost same.

I am from philippines & currently using oreo update about 10hours already. Performance, not issue yet & smooth compared to 7.0. Battery, not overheating in normal use and its not draining fast. And about this new update, it says here "backgroud services are limited to improve performance and battery life" . For me that's what makes it more better.

samsung relates such countries with third world countries where updates are always late. first update was released more than one and a half month ago in russia, they also further updates, but some other countries are still using android 7.0. it is frustrating for users and making itself a poor brand. xiaomi is cheap and powerful brand in comparison to samsung. updates being released at once in whole world.

I haven't upgrade to Oreo and haven't change thescreen width on developers mode. It shows 360 so I asume that's the default value. If you modified that value to 411 then It's logical that after upgrading, some settings go to the default values.

Just got updated to Oreo 8.0. The new update seems to have improved alot. The phone is now smoother than earlier and it has got little bit speedy. The apps open quickly and overall I am satusfied with the new update. I received it over the air so that I could insall i by myself. I highly recommend this update. If you are going tp update it yourself, make sure you have sufficient credit/ data to download the update. The update is about 1400MB in size (approximately). After downloading the update, make sure you have more than 50% of battery power before you install it. Thanks..

I still dont download this patch. Sometimes I have problem with quick charge, its turning off randomly, or dont charge to 100%, its stuck on 97%. But I dont use QC often, so for me its not a problem. The difference betwen QC and normal charging is 30 minutes, so I can live with this.

it has been almost a year since i have bought this phone and my impressions on the phone is very good. ideal size for the hand(5.2") amoled screen, fast charge, waterproof, AOD and the camera is pretty goodd(unless you're are pro) and the list goes on. if you are considering to buy this, i would recommend this. for the price point it is a grab, no questions asked. the notch trend is going to die very soon and all screen displays are the future. i really don't care about samsung but they are doing are really good job at making phones. and also for the ones who are lost in between which phone to buy, the AMOLED screen which other brands doesn't have is a real game changer.

I never download patch first. I always wait few weeks for opinions of other usets. My phone never heat up. My previous phone dont have this problem too. Make factory reset a send it to samsung service guyz. Until you have a warranty. This new patch is 23MB so I dont think it have some important things. Maybe just security patch. But I will wait :D

You can download CPU-z program from google play. Its for free, and it will show you the usage of each core of processor. Then, you can close all apps, turn on cpuz and see what processor are doing.

I've done 4 factory resets to my A5 in 7 months of use. After every huge android patch, you should make a factory reset because there is a lot of bugs and unexpected working of the phone. Just make a copy of your text messages, phones to people and photos, and do factory reset. :)

They have a crap ton of cheap phones that will never receive an update. Not going to bother listing them here one by one, there's a lot and their naming scheme is even worse than Samsung's. It's already good enough that Sammy started rolling out 8.0.0 for A5 2017 this early. Last year we had to wait till September to get 7.0 so hey, there's an improvement.

First off, Huawei is as bad as Samsung when it comes to updates. Secondly, you're still getting the 8.0 update sooner or later, don't understand what you're so frustrated about. It's not like A5 is a flagship device to get instant treatments. Care so much about updates, and want to get them real quick? Buy a Pixel or Android One phone.

They are providing updates though, even though not as fast as Nokia/Sony. A5 2017 got 7.0 and 8.0, and timely monthly updates. What are you complaining about? Samsung isn't the worst when to comes to updates. Keep that in mind.

Yeah I know. But this is what's currently happening: when Samsung Headquarters releases the update, they pass it first to the Samsung Regions (i.e. Samsung UK, Samsung US, Samsung Vietnam, Samsung Pakistan, etc). Each region would decide if they're gonna let the update go through the devices (or should I say to carriers first). Sadly, there are Samsung Regions that decides to stop the update "for compatibility's sake" as if it was not compatible to other firmware. That's currently happening to Samsung PH. I'm already annoyed. Thus I have no choice but to flash foreign firmware soon. There's soooooo many factors why this delay happens. The update goes through many hands first before our devices receives it. I know this is Samsung's fault. But if we want to get rid of it aside from flashing firmware, then we should not buy phones from them anymore. Buying Samsung phones nowadays is like accepting how they deal with their update crap.

That's not the Point, there's a rule in Place for android update systems that Company's must provide 2 years worth of updates, if Samsung can't do it properly they shouldn't be able to get away with it.

Yeah. Sadly this is how they want to do it. The moment we purchased Samsung device, we agree on how they do the business. But hey. Look at the brighter side like what happened to S7. Only few are affected by the bootloops. If not only for the Samsung Experience, I should have bought phone from another manufacturer. If you want the update right now, the best yet the riskiest thing to do is to flash a foreign firmware which I'm already planning to do.

You're a familiar guy who keeps saying Shamesung during the Nougat update period. Anyways, just be happy that you'll get Oreo soon. There are Regional Samsung Divisions who don't even care to give 2nd update to their firmware *cough cough PH firmware cough cough*. Seriously, Samsung PH haven't given 2nd major updates to S5, S6, S7, A series (2015 to 2016). Thus, I'm not expecting for Oreo anymore unless I'll flash a foreign firmware.

Just got this while my S7 is in the workshop for screenrepair. WOW, I wasnt expecting to feel so much slugginess compared to the S7. he phones are almost similar size and look similar too, but in daily operation, the S7 flies much better. There is just an element of hesitation, sluggishness that is evident in this phone cmopared to the S7. Accepteable if you came from a worse phone, or you maxed out your budget with this phone. But coming from the S7, I can only live with it for so long. Apart from that, the phone is ok. It just shows that an older top range model still has it over a medium range model released 1 year later. The S7 is still a great phone with really good camera, especially if you dont like curved screens found on S8/S9 like myself. Would buy it over any midranger out there.

Mine updated a couple of days ago haven't had any issues no over heating camera seems better audio through Bluetooth sounds better its a lot faster, to tell the truth they took the bugs out of nougat and renamed it oreo

Hello, After Oreo update I am experiencing extensive battery usage from the Cell standby. After full charge discharge Cs takes 26% which was never the case with nougat. The same thing has been happening to my Gf, who has also a A5 2017, recently updated to Oreo. Is this the case also with you, or it is just us?
