you can dismantle the back cover for your note 8 and try to check if connector for the SD slot is connected properly this commonly happens when you r drop the device.

Luv my Samsung Galexy Note 8. I have been using it for a number of years. No problems. Mine runs about 50'C. I use software from time to time to cool it. The battery? I can get two days out of it with fairly heavy use. I carry a little Mophie charger in my bag, just in case. I am a fiction writer. I write in Google Docs and save my work to the Google Drive or Cloud. Currently I am writing a book of short stories. It all works wonderfully. Take away my 'Sammy?' NEVER.

The battery may have just give up - mine did. I replaced the battery (do not believe it is non-replaceable; there is a you tube video to show how). If you lack the courage to diy any phone tech could do it. I had the same symptons and once I replaced the battery my old note 8 was as good as ever. Despite the age they are for most practical purposes, as good a small tablet as any available today, and better than most. The batteries are available on eBay. I suggest you get an original samsung one - you will pay a little more but the Note 8 is still a fine tablet and heavy use can make cheap batteries catch fire (the easiest way to lower cost in battery manufacturer is to cut out the heat protection)

The Note 8.0 is the best piece of tech I have ever owned. I even bought the SGH 1467 sim model as a back up but it is kind of glichy.

Bought this May 2013, early 2017 i changed the battery worth $30, its only Class A, i asked for the original battery but they don't have, the technician told me that its also good but need extra care like not using it while charging or better off while charging, so i did and yes it's working like new! My plan was to sell it after i changed the battery but now i can't let go this tab, i use it in everything, surfing, movies, documents etc. Anyone can suggest a new model with same durability as this?

this is my first tab i love it. it never got hanged.but i have to replace the battery and i buyed it in 2015 it still works.it does not works perfectly when you root it.i am using it in cyanogenmod 13 now it is having bootloop at sometime.but that problem can be solved.i roughly used it many time times nothing happened.

This Galaxy Note 8.0 is my fifth device. It is so handy for my work & play. Hope Samsung will continue this 8" model with 64GB internal memory. Tried Tap A but its S-Note feature is not as good as this one.

I'm also still using this in 2017. I've gotten a tool kit and replaced the battery 3 times and the micro-usb port once. There's a few hairline cracks around the silver frame from dropping it, but it's never broken. A few tabs that hold the back on have broken off from opening it for the battery replacement. It's a great quality tablet. If it quits on me, I'd rather buy the same model used than to buy a new model.

I bought this tablet in 2013 and I'm still using it in 2017. In fact I am dictating this review from my Galaxy Note 8. If there is one thing about if these days it's a little slower and there can be a little bit of a lag but I wonder if I reset my tablet would that go away. I keep looking to see if there's a new tablet out there that I would rather have but I keep going back to the Galaxy Note 8. I only wish that Samsung would update this 8 inch version so I could upgrade because I won't stop using it. Fantastic!

Worse tablet ever. Sent it to the service center many times already and now it works like crap again. It does not turn on properly, it only shows samsung and heats up, tried waiting for it but nothing happened. I charged it yesterday till it went to 100%. Djamel, in my opinion, there is not much point in replacing the battery. Me and my brother both own the Galaxy note 8.0, and we also faced problems of the draining battery, so we replaced our batteries. However, the performance of the tablet remained roughly the same, and the power drains fast, as before. I believe this is usually what happens when a device gets too old, and can't keep up with the requirements of today's applications. My advice for you is to just buy a new tablet/phone. :) (as I am typing this right now my Galaxy Note 8.0 is still using up a large amount of power from the newly replaced battery)

I had this problem as well with both my Note II and my Note 8. I replaced the usb port on the Note II. The Note 8 also needs a new usb port but I managed to get it working well enough to charge it so I didn't bother. The first thing that you should do is a factory reset. That often solves a lot of software problems. The second thing that you should do is get a new USB cable. I had brand new Samusng cables that wouldn't work with the Note 8. I got a good quality one from a cell phone store. Just keep trying cables. You may find one that will work. At some point your tablet most likely fell off a table with the usb cable plugged in. That will damage the port and the cable. The port could just be worn out from age. Fortunately, the USB port is not all that hard to change. Look for a You Tube video. You will neeed a plastic opening tool (dirt cheap} and the replacement part. There are two parts available. One is a larger unit. Get that one. It will just plug in for you. The Usb port is also available. It is the smaller and cheaper part. That needs to be soldered and the repair will be harder. Get the first one. Check EBay and Amazon for the parts. Once you see the video and look up the parts this should all make sense. Or, take it in. That might be more than you want to pay for such an old device. Google and You Tube are great resources for fixing things like this. Give it a shot - if its broken you probably can't make it much worse!

Mine was doing the same thing. Your micro sd port may be going. Mine was loose. I know that I need to replace it. Try a new usb cable. In fact, try several good quality ones. I bought a new Samsung cable but that didn't work. I picked up a good quality cable at a cell phone store and it is the only one in the house that works with the Note 8. The usb port is not all that hard to change. Look it up on You Tube. There are two different replacement parts. One is a larger unit that simpy plugs in. Don't buy just the port itself. That needs to be soldered. You'll understand once you see the video and look up the parts.

Have you tried to do a Factory Reset? This will bring it back to how it was when you first purchased the device. Look at the above link and find an option that you find easiest to follow. To change to "European settings", you should just change it to your language and everything should work. Your minimal information posted doesn't help when trying to diagnose what you did to the device.

If the useable battery time is not decreased (just a battery meter issue?) then recalibrate the battery. Google it, it's easy. But if the use time between charges IS shorter, then replace battery.

Ok so I have a refurbished galaxy note 8.0 and I've had it for about 10 months now. I do a lot on it everyday such as browsing and watching YouTube videos and shop online occasionally. For the last couple months, the screen has been flashing a lot and restarting and the battery has always been at 100% when it happens and it never drains. I have same problem with you, then i go to samsung service center. they said that this problem caused by uncompleted updating the OS. maybe the update process is interrupted by slow connection. then they upgrade my OS to KitKat 4.4.2 and the issue are solve. I'm sorry about my grammar

this phone has a BIG battery.... If you are charging the phone using usb slot (pc, laptop android box etc...) in certain devices, it will not charge because the most usb slot (pc, laptop android box etc...) cannot provide enough power to charge the big battery..... use the normal charger (plug/adapter) with the usbcable not just the usb cable only.... if you still want to charge using usb cable only.... power off your phone so that the limited power provided by the usb slot (pc, laptop android box etc...) can charge the phone... If all the above cannot also, meaning your charger is faulty...

You can always upgrade to an aftermarket ROM. I still use stock 4.1.2 though. Because the later Samsung ROM's had S-Pen alignment issues and excess battery drain and I've no particular desire to upgrade to an aftermarket ROM.

(guys who has the warranty to their device don't do this... ) I also believe this issues are arise after updating the device to KitKat.. i think the processor get overloaded in this version that's why it get more heated. i think once the device get it heated its performance getting down and when the 3G signal getting week it will surely drop the signal as well.. and i thin we can't hope Lollipop update for this device as well..

Using this awesome tablet for about a year and I'm really satisfied with its performance. If a phablet is way too small for you and you can't put up with a chunky 10-inch tablet then this 8-inch charm is yours. The device is quite responsive, the screen is sharp with acceptable view angles and I've installed all kinds of games and applications on the device without running into one single problem, in addition, the pen comes in handy when it comes to taking notes or drawing something simple. however the downsides are the occasional overheatings (for me 3 or 4 times during this one year period) and the very long recharge time and mediocre battety life.

For the most part, it's a stable and speedy Note. My only peeve is now after 2 years (bought it in July 2013), it wouldn't charge anymore. I've used the same charger (it came with) with other devices and it is charging other devices just fine. Perhaps the USB port board is f**ked, but shit, Samsung, what the eff?? My opinion, get the S series for the better PPI density and better spec, the Tab A seems like something dropped at sea and washed up ashore.

I have the same issue with my galaxy note 8. I believe the issue is caused my insertion of a cut down sim card. When I first got the note i was on team mobile. The people at their office cut down my standard sim card so it could be used in the micro slot. Unfortunately the micro sim is also thinner than the standard car so cutting it down still leaves you with a thicker card and that spreads the contacts to the point where a micro sim will not make consistant contact if you ever get a sim that isn't cut down.

Your sim card is just for internet. There is the normal sim card, for smartphones, which you can also put it in the tablet and you can make phone calls. Your sim card is for portable wireless routers or internet stick.

Im having the same problem as many others, I would sometimes have moments with my tablet where it would act as if it is turned off and not turn back on or respond to anything until a while later where it finally resets itself. the battery drains so fast i go from 100 percent to 15 within 3 hours if using it moderately.Im currently on jellybean. Anyone got any solutions would not reccomend this tablet to people who are looking for a tablet they can trust and depend on for efficient work use

Today I made a factory reset according to an advice from a friend who faced the same problem with his note 3 After I did it I feel the battery became more better than before and it lost 1% from its charge after a long time He advised me to charge it (switched off) until tomorrow then I use it until the battery became 80% then charge it again fully He told me that he did it with his note 3 and the battery became very better and I'll try and see

You have misunderstanding. After updated to Kitkat, you remove/delete the "Galaxy Apps", it will turn to factory setting to "Samsung Apps", JUST PARTICULAR ICON CHANGE TO FACTORY SETTING ONLY not the whole updates.

You go setting and click on application manager, find the GALAXY APPS Icon (old version call SAMSUNG APPS), delete and restart your note. You will get faster and battery won't drain so fast. I bought note 8.0 2 weeks ago, android force me to upgrade to 4.4.2 (kitkat). Before upgrade, my RAM around 600MB only, after upgrade, RAM goes to 1.5GB and browsing keep lagging. BUT, after I delete the GALAXY APPS, my RAM reduced and browsing become normal. I advice that, check your RAM before delete Galaxy Apps, see got any difference or not.

oh yes this is a very very juicy device but i really do love this tablet. What you need if your a very heavy user is to have an external battery charger and it will last all day 12 hours in constant use full processor busy and full screen brightness. But forget doing that without an external charger because it wont even last an hour if you did. I have an lte so basically a giant phone and lte is more of a battery consuming.

If battery drain occurs according to xda forums after software updates you have to wipe cache partition.. so it would not produce bugs or battery drain.. google 'wipe cache partition'.. it helps a lot..

I've been using my n5120 8.0 tablet for about 2 month so far. Absolutely in love with it. Best device i've had so far. Probably, i'm the only user to use it like a phone! So far i've been using it like my primary and only phone. I carry a little bag with me where i put my wallet, sunglasses etc, and there goes the Note too. Most times it's convenient enough, except for occasions i go running/dancing - when i have to leave the phablet behind, cause it's too clunky - can't put it on my arm (!) like i used with galaxy s2, while running. The ideal solution for this is probably a smartwatch. Maybe even a smartwatch with a sim. My primary use of the tablet is a notebook. Since i bought it, i stopped using paper to write down. Using samsung note software to create full-size notebooks at work with the pen. I then back up those files to gdrive automatically. For paper-haters, like me, it's a life saver! The pen works really well. Samsung's software is very neat. It can recognize handwritten staff and convert to typed symbols. The battery life is a downside. When i use it at work, writing with s-pen for about 8 hours (some of it with screen on) the battery is over at about 17.00, even before the day is over. I wish there were some battery saving feature for note taking. I guess, i'll buy an external battery accumulator to solve it, cause when you rely on your tablet at your primary tool for everything incl. business, you can't afford to have it shut down with no power. Probably an average user will have a 1 full day of battery, but no more than that. One comment i met in reviews, about the low screen resolution, in my view, is a bullshit. The screen is amazing, very bright and clear, you will love it, no matter what other devices have out there. Camera works well so far. In too month of use haven't been to dark places, where flash would be needed, so didn't suffer from the lack of flash. This was the biggest issue for me before buying, but now very happy i gave up on flash. Anyway i have my old galaxy s 2 with flash if needed. I'm note a photography heavy user, anyway. 2MB of RAM is amazing. Note never freezes/lags as my galaxy s2 used to do so many times, when ran out of memory. The RAM counter stays around 1.2 after cleaning RAM, with only a few apps at the background, and around 1.5-1.6 at use. S2 would've crashed long ago, with fewer apps at the background. So 2GB of RAM at least is a must! (i have more than 60 apps on the Note) The screen is huge, have 4 times more screen space than i had on my s2 phone! Excellent for browsing, video watching, writing, of course. You'll need a case to protect it and i suggest the one that keeps both sides of it protected, a book style case, for example. This tablet doesn't have gorilla glass, so better protect the screen! Bottom line: super recommended for note-takers/paper-haters/business oriented users etc! Great for productivity and pleasure combined

Samsung is a lying bag of shits. This device although perform splendidly but the battery capacity isnt truly 4600 mah. I done some checking using some battery apps in playstore and found out that its only 3600 mah. No wonder it run out of juice so quickly. Now im using huawei mediapad x1 (about the same specs with full hd screen) and the battery which is 5000 mah could last for about a day and a half when doing the same task that my old note 8 did about only 6 hours to do.

I like this tab but I got a problem. It will lock unexpectedly and when you press the turn on switch, you can't immediately unlock it, you have to wait for several minutes to load the tab and then you can unlock it. This Note 8.0 is great. It served me well. I like to use the S Pen for taking notes in both english and mandarin. I can even draw sketches in my notes. I never regret buying it about half year ago. I think the price is dropped now. Why not consider it?

The reason to buy this tablet is for the fine line pen. It works fairly well for fine line pen input. A few quirks. If you are just looking for a tablet and don't care about the pen there are cheaper and better tablets out there.

The Note 8 is light and not as heavy as the 10.1". Convenient and more affordable, and great for digital art with its Wacom digitizer. Some would say the screen is low resolutioned, but you don't see the pixels or low quality like the Note 10.1 odd yesteryear. The 8's screen is clear enough. This is what I use at home or when I do my spread sheets, drawing more detailed art work. Battery is enough, although there will be some misalignment with the battery guage for some. Not all are complaining about it. I just wished out had a removable battery system.

Of course it wouldn't last long with power hungry processing. The most I got from surfing is an accumulated 7 hours of screen on usage time. I have the Note 8 for a year now and I'd get somewhere 6:40 hours. Drawing with the S Pen doesn't take much power, and it would last a lot longer.

I had to open the rear to disconnect the battery again. It was registering odd battery usage and recharging stats, with the usual fuelguage that monitors the battery's has inaccurate information after some time. I had a 10% battery registered before I disconnected the battery. When I reconnected it registered 50%. Just annoyed with having to do this every month just so I get a more than 5 hours of usage instead of 3 hours.

You might have purchased flip cover for your gal n5100 which has sensors. When u close the flip cover, the handset screen swtches off. When u open the flip cover the screen turns on. When u open and fold the flip cover to the back completely touching the back of the handset, again the screen turns off and when screen turned on in that position, yor touch screen doesn't work b'cos of the sensors. You have to place a rupee coin to obstruct the sensor at back. The coin will stick due to magnet and will work.

to response my friends quarry regarding the way for taking screenshots,for taking screen shots,...first you can press home and power button at the same time,...or...moving your hand across the screen(if you have enabled this feature in setting previously).....and of course....tnx for the S-Pen....coz u can press its button and click the S-Pen on the screen....U C the pic on the clipboard,...here in this case you have to select the save choice,Besides u can draw and text on ur pic if u need actually ;)

I had this problem but it turned out the magnetic case latch was interfering with the sensor. Remove it from the case if it is in one. If that fixes it turn it one half turn home button will be on other side. Good luck

if your battery went from 60% and drop to 0% in a blink of an eye, or the screen flickers alot before shutting down... take out the battery, lay it flat on a table and see if it's 'slightly rounded'/'inflated'. if it is, your battery is overused (most batteries dies within a year or so of daily usage). if it isn't, go have it checked out. (ps : buy a new battery immediately if the battery is spoilt. if not, your phone will be the next to spoil.)

To those who have battery consumption problem, please check whether your model is original or fake. Normally it takes 1-3 hours of charging the battery. are u using 2A charger? or using 1A charger? if using 2A charger, the process takes about 2-3hour charging from 0-20% to 100% i am guessing , u are not using original charger 2A. if u are using original charger, then my guess ur battery is almost die

Well, recently, went my battery life went to 0 percent, I hooked it to the charger and while it charged, the screen was flashing rapidly! I tried factory reset twice but it said it couldn't open the system. Maybe a virus? Now it says it's downloading something (God knows what) and it's still flashing. Is there something I can do?

I am facing problem with my galaxy note 8.0. Battery suddenly going from 60% or 50% to 0% and phone switching off after a few screen flickerings. When the phone is switched on it shows 1%. My Note is just 1 year and 10 days old and I suspect the battery has reached the end of its life. I use the phone extensively for everything. Wifi always on. Bluetooth on while driving. Just bought this SME unit from Malaysia. My personal view is, this tablet is awesome, with huge capacity for battery life, as well as the CPU and RAM performance wise. I've got the Note 8 since it came out since April 2013. Somehow, the battery monitoring system will misalign and it will give wrong guage values that affect the battery usage time. Opening and disconnecting the battery reformats the battery monitoring system. It would then give you back the usual 6 to 7 hours of screen time usage instead of the just 2 hours and rapid battery drain. I bought a galaxy note 8 a week ago and I am satisfied, besides one strange thing that happened two days ago. When I turn it to the landscape while working the screen turns black like in the stand by mode. I have to turn it on with the on/off button and it starts working normally. Hi, So you wish to get Note 8.0 and Note 10.1 compared? OK, in my VERY PERSONAL opinion here it is. Both the tabs are great. However, Note 10.1 was created to fight with Apple's iPad 10 incher and it was launched quite earlier to Note 8.0. Now those who have artistic inclinations, those who have a habbit of sketching, painting, illustrating, cartooning, go for Tab 10.1. Tab 10.1 is very much for the artistic of the lot. But trust me there are disadvantages to Note 10.1. First one is you MUST use a bluetooth headset for telephony. People will laugh and roll on streets if they catch u holding the huge tab to your ear. Secondly the S-Pen reports are better from Note 8.0 than from Note 10.1. The display in Note 8.0 is sharper than Note 10.1. Apart from these, there are no noteworthy differences. So if u r an artist go for Note 10.1 (Advice: Wait for Note 10.1 2014 edition). But for a more casual or business user, Note 8.0 is highly recommended. (I use Note 8.0 and I must say I love it.)

Hey, don't lose heart. I had the same problem and even I was a bit disappointed seeing all forums posting your problem. Yes, it is true that update may lose the multi-window feature. This is true especially in cases where the update was done without using Samsung Kies. But trust me, there is a very simple solution to this problem (I've already done it successfully.) Hook up to some working wireless network and just do the 'Factory Reset'. Your tab will simply try to load to the latest firmware. YOU WONT LOSE ANY OF YOUR DATA OR APPS BECAUSE I DID NOT LOSE ANYTHING. Try it. You will certainly get back your multi-window function along with the updated OS. And be sure you update using Samsung Kies hereafter.

You only have to click on the icon of play store, it will ask you if you already have a google account to log in directly with it. Otherwise you will need to make a new google account by following the steps presented .. a straight forward process.

Bought a few weeks ago -- it worked fine until Samsung updated it to 4.2.2> Multi Window feature stopped working. This is not just my problem -- the discussion boards are seething with outrage that Samsung's advice is to use factory reset of the tablet to have this feature back (which by the way, Samsung peddles as a distinct feature of note 8). Factory reset is time consuming, poorly defined as to the results of it, and certainly requires backing everything up. Samsung is irresponsible, and I will continue posting this on any board available until Sumsung fixes the problem. To verify this post just Google "Multi Window Note 8 stopped working". Do not buy Note 8, it is a disgrace of customer support.

I bought this note 8 a week ago or so. And yes, I'm happy with this kiddo. 6 hours of battery charge and it lasts for almost 10 hrs. Great. Don't buy this tab. I had purchased this tab 2 months ago and I got some problem. Tab was not starting. I had given to service center. I took lot of time. When I call to them, they said that part are not available and there are some hardware issue.So I raised my voice and within 2 hours I got a call from service center. You tab is ready and you can collect it. They did lot of scratches on screen and did close back cover properly. When I did complain, so I got a call from customer care center. They refused to change my screen and they said screen is not come under warranty. Then I said that who is responsible for this. I gave bad answer and raised the voice against me and said whatever you wanted to do you can. My request is that don't go with samsung product. Samsung mobiles are so costly and against they are not providing proper service.

Yeah, I agree. LED flash would have been a great asset for Note 8.0. But then Note 8.0 is a BUSINESS TABLET PHONE. So it will be a little too much to expect the makers to concentrate on camera feature more than the business ones. And the S-PEN!!!!!. There is simply no match for the S-Pen facility available on the Note series phones from Samsung. That does make Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 THE BEST TABLET in its category.

I am telling this from first hand experience. 2) NEVER, I repeat, NEVER BUY MAGNETIC FLIP COVER for this tablet phone. It can cause the S-Pen to behave very strange on the screen area which is directly above the magnets. This tablet phone uses Wacom digitizer which is based on magnetic resonance technology. The note 8 is a wonder to me. Its awesome in gaming, browsing and surprisingly calling too. Not heavy, but bear in mind, the device is made fully of plastic and nt a good thing to bring your device out without a cover. Don drop it!. I've had my note 8 for a little over 6 months now and I'm still loving it. So far the best little gadget I've purchased in a long while. It comes so handy for work particularly when you're on the go. I've since said goodbye to my scratchpads, notebooks, planners, etc. - the note 8.0 simply does it all. It's handy and great for traveling when you don't need to take your laptop. Size is just right for me, small enough to fit in my murse yet big enough for watching movies and playing games. Response time is good and the S-pen is a marvel. With all new similar gadgets that have been released since I bought this, I still haven't found the need to get a new one. It's known issue for Android devices as several android devices confuse about IPaddress. Change your connected wifi setting on your Android device with tick advanced options and then change IP settings to static. Then change DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8. and DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4

The note 8 is a pretty Good phablet. The Battery life aint that great but a single charge should carry you for a day for mild users. The BBM has been Tested and It Works perfectly on my N5100. Its not an issue..the tablet is charging while connected to the laptop..but it does that slowly...keep it connected to the laptop and check the battery percentage...you wil find it increasing..thats because this tablet has a huge battery and the power from the laptop is not sufficiant to charge it as it does while connected to wall socket...

Same problem with me. Just got an OEM HDTV Adapter (model ET-H10FAUWEGWW) and it does not work with a 2011 Samsung LED TV. Tried several obvious workarounds like changing the HDMI ports, tried 3 different HDMI cables (and checking the source, of course), with and without the original tablet power source, but nothing works. Googled for this and seems like others are facing the same problem. Maybe it is a driver issue to be fixed on future updates, but I will appreciate very much any light on this.

Hi, I have bought this tablet about a month ago and I'm facing a very strange issue - whenever I use Google Chrome, the touch seems to be disaligned. In other words, if I have to click at a place at Point X I have to tap at a point about half an inch below that point. Using the stylus doesn't help either. In fact, while using the stylus the air view is activitated for points about half inch on the top and left. Is anyone else facing a similar issue? Is there a solution?

There are quite a few things to take into consideration: 1. Do you want a small device or do you want a tablet to carry around as your office? 2. If the answer is "smaller"device, then of course it's the S4..... if the answer is "Tablet" then, obviously, the Note is the answer. 3. The two has the same chipset and OS and will perform similarly. 4. If you like the bigger unit, then you're going for a smart and effective office to carry around. I have one, and it is ideal to run your business from. Use bluetooth headset for phone, PLEASE not the large device to talk onto in public!! The smaller device is not as efficient for browsing, internet banking etc. but still is nice to have as phone, with those functions as option.

i think this phablet is the best one. i bought LUMIA 920 and it's really sucks. With all limitations i can't attach my email with documents such as pdf, office by replying a documents. if i start one new email i can only attach one office's file and i think it is not for helping your bussiness like the ads said. Even my blackberry can did it better. Now my lumia just for texting and calling, NO MORE i can do with that phone. But if i'm talking about this note 8, not only it's about android which open source but it also gives you any freedom to do what your want. The multi tasking phone is Note 8. you can call your buds, while texting, and do some your work on polaris office, sync to GOOGLE DRIVE and SKY DRIVE if really needed to your office, even you can sketch your imagination on S note, evernote whatever. Note 8 probably one of Samsung's masterpiece. It does really satisfy me. If you are really consider to use windows phone, i recommend you to use this note 8. It does really help your bussiness. You don't have to use lync or skype anymore. FYI, skype on WP8 is beta version. iOS and android version is better one. it's really push notifications ( i have compared skype on android and WP8 ). I'm not an android worshipper, or WP hater. I tried to love WP since O2 made the phone and bought Lumia to think it can replace my blackberry. But i made a wrong choice.

Yes, something just about 10GB for internal use. It doesn't matter to me as I don't see much point of having heavy file games installed on the Note 8. I got a high capacity 64GB card for my media needs. If you want more space, root and start wiping out some of the bloatware.

Additional battery performance claims: I do some digital art with both Notes 8 and II. On the 8, I worked on some with the Sketchbook Ink app on more than 5.5 hours till the battery was 5% on a just below 7 hours of time span. The screen consumption was 87% with my brightness below 30%! The Sketchbook Ink only just came to 6%. With the Note II, I had a total of also 5.5 screen usage time but with multiple app of Skype, Photoshop Touch and ATorrent used on a 7.5 hours span to it hit 6%. The AMOLED screen consumed 31% of the total power at 30% brightness. I made these observations to know the reliability of both devices. It just proves the bigger TFT screen of the Note 8 drains its 4600mAh battery a whole lot more, leaving you not able to do much heavy stuff like in the smaller 3100mAh battery capacity Note II. The II's battery is at least changeable, while I really need to plug in the 8 if I do the same heavy lifting.

As I have stated, the Note 8 usually gives me accumulated 5 to 7 hours of screen on usage time on a charge till its 5%. One time I was using it constantly for just above 8 hours mostly Internet browsing which yielded just about 7 hours of screen on. Doing something similar like browsing with the Note II, at roughly 50% of battery from a full charge after 5 hours yielded 4.5 hours of screen on. It just means the Note II can possibly reach the stated almost 9 hours of Internet browsing tested by GSM Arena. Unfortunately GA didn't test the Note 8's battery performance. These are based on my experience with the device. The Note 8's screen is larger and I keep the lighting to just 20% most of the time, but even with its larger 4600mAh battery, it can just give me up to 7 hours+ screen on from browsing. I have experienced a 5 hour+ screen on with the Note II with downloading torrents over a span of more than 15 hours+ with constant bluetooth, wifi and 2-3 hours worth of Internet radio: The Note II's incredible battery efficiency is very impressive. I used to have another phone to wifi hotspot tether my Note II, and therefore its battery could last up to 15 to 16 hours of heavy use. Ever since I started using the Note II as the hotspot transmitting connectivity for the Note 8, the II can last usual 12 hours while still doing some heavy lifting. By the way, the Tab 7.7 can play almost 12 hours of video continuously, or it only can do almost 7 hours of surfing on a charge. You're right, it doesn't last that long.

7.7 does not last that long... i have used it .. since HComb Not unless ur staring at a blank black screen for 12 hours. Most people use apps that have black text with white background.. unless u tweak and customize everything.. which is tedious And the constant drain on LCD screen will not be so significant.. the most variance is .05 watts.. hardly a killer aspect.. and its wrong to say it draws zero current on a blank black screen either. If you have claims that note 2 last longer then note 8.0.. better have screenshot claims.. and the respective apps you use to test for fairness.

Sorry, I have both. The Note II lasts longer between 10 to 12 hours from its 3100mAh for me on heavy usage with constant bluetooth, 3G data on, wifi hotspot, torrent downloading, syncs, Internet music, web browsing and can give me at least more than 5 hours of accumulated screen on time on top of all that heavy lifting. I change the battery in the late afternoon, and yes it's better as the more compact device while commuting. Note 8 can only give me at least an accumulated 5 hours (up to 7) of screen on over wifi. The 8's TFT screen draws 80% consistently of its battery's 4600mAh capacity since it has a bigger area to power. I put in my old SIM card on the 8 but I can't rely the 8 as my main daily device for its non-removable battery. With only 2 hours of screen on time, the 8's battery is half finished at noon time. I wish it has an AMOLED screen for better efficiency like the Tab 7.7. The 7.7 can go up to 12 hours of video on one charge. You can save much power with an AMOLED screen with a black background since it only turns on the needed pixels that emits its own light, unlike TFT/LCD which needs and emits a constant ambient lighting from the screen sides. The conclusion is, the Note II lasts longer on one charge than the Note 8.

Yes, with an micro USB to HDMI connector (latest model) or with an AllShareCast wireless dongle accessory connected to the projector. If you have root, you can install RemoDroid to connect with another Android or PC to mirror your Note 8's display with a bit of lag via the local or hotspot wifi. I do my lectures with this method and tap the classroom's PC connected to the projector. Good for drawing demonstrations.

No. What do you need NFC for? There is still WifiDirect and I learned to transfer large files the fastest to my Note II. The Super Beam app is interesting and easy, if file transferring is what you need.

Yes, you could connect a USB 3G modem but with much work. You need to root your device. Install PPP Widget. Download the driver for the modem. Configure SuperUser so that it will read the driver. Frankly, it's a lot of bother. The instruction isn't simple. If I were you, get an Android smartphone to wifi tether than that dongle or a wireless modem. A smartphone is more practical and gives you the option to sms at least.

Over 2 months later, I find the Note 8's key features, S Pen and bigger screen complement, my Note II. The Note II is my primary unit with unlimited data to tether the 8 when I need to work on some drawing, watch or Internet browse. When commuting, the Note II is pretty handy, while the 8 is something when you're in the office or somewhere you're idle. I have recently discovered some remote control apps that are fairly working while pairing both for presentations or entertainment, one connected to a projector or TV with the HDMI connector. You need to root though. One is DroidMote (paid), that basically enables one device as a trackpad or mouse pointer for the other via bluetooth or wifi connection. Another one is RemoDroid (free, beta) that incredibly mirrors whatever is on screen, except there is a noticeable slight lag. The official AllShareCast dongle still is the best, but I'm using what I have at the moment since I spent on an HDMI to VGA adaptor.

So, I gather that Jellybean does not allow apps to be stored in SD - does that make the tablet slow? I'm sure many of you guys might have downloaded some heavy games on the device. To be frank I was shocked to hear this. Contrary to what many people have said, I use a 32 gb (class 10) memory card on my device and most of my apps are on teh sd card - and it works like a charm! I'm surprised why android would start being restrictive (sounds like smtn apple would do) :(

Since I use the S Pen a lot, a plastic protective screen guard would have scratch marks - lesson learned from the Galaxy Note 1. I know it's not the usual sturdier Gorilla glass, but I want the screen to be clear, unobstructed and no accumulated filth on the edges of the unnecessary protective screen. The only thing I see it useful is when the screen glass breaks, and it will hold the shards of glass in place. I use a TPU semi hard back case only, because cover flaps get in the way. I'm still waiting for a thick silicone+hard plastic combination heavy protection case against extreme drops. Here's one: It's $30 but it's the heaviest protection for the Note 8 so far, and looks good and comes with a kick-stand. I'll probably take out the clear screen it has. Here's a review of it:

if you have to choose between note ii and note 8, go for note ii. but i suggest you wait for note iii since its few months to unveil the note ii successor. but then again, it depends on your preferences. i chose note 8.0 for e reading and multimedia for its large screen. ever since i bought note 8.0, i never had the need for a faster processor or amoled screen and smart features. i think i'll hang on with this guy till a better tablet with comes out...

I have both the Note II and Note 8. I tether the Note 8 to my Note II when I need a bigger screen for sketching or reading. The Note II serves as my main device when I'm outside. The Note 8 has a higher pixel count of 800 by 1280 than the Note II of 720 by 1280. It's wrong to say the Note II has a higher resolution. No point in boasting about pixel density either. Honestly, can you see the pixels?

According to GSM arena, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 has a 5 mp camera with flash. It seems almost similar to Note 5100 (without the S pen I think - though that isn't very clear). What do you guys think - Note 5100 or Tab 3 8.0?? I can wait and a good camera is kinda important to me (more than the S pen). Yeah, and no NFC, no FM radio and no LED indicator. The list can go on. People who appreciate the more important aspects like the S Pen, good screen, light weight, expandable memory, large 2GB RAM, micro USB connector, good 7 hours of screen on productivity, true multi-screen multi tasking and making calls and SMS. You can't have it all. Taking pictures with the Note 8's 5mp camera is ok for general documentation. It does record 750p. It's just there for more for document copying. It's not like you are using this for professional photography.

Just bought my galaxy Note 8.0 last sunday for 22,500 16gb, amazed because it's a quad core and fascinated with the features...however, I almost forgot to know the details of the camera ...gosh...i am very disappointed it has no flash...Im just wondering why samsung let this tab to be out in the market without the second taught that most people are now picture dependents...this one could make this product down...not something but a big thing to be turned off....can anyone from samsung justify why?...modern but primitive....tsk tsk tsk...

Touchscreen is very soft and found better than any I pad I used. Only problem is for skype. There is problem in it when you want to exit you have to go application and then clear data then it off line. I reinstall it 05 times but same problem.

Great device..very fast....disapointing front cam....the 5MP actually takes great pictures in day light,i was suprised of how clear the back camera was (who will really use this 2 take pictures)...if only the front cam was dat good....i dont think samsung knows the importance of a bright HD front cam on a tablet..Things like this are what make the tablet market fail .smh

I'm thinking to buy samsung galaxy y and samsung galaxy note 8.0 . I don't like a big screen phone. For me, if you want a phone, buy a phone. Not a phablet. And if you want a tablet, buy a tablet, not a phablet. That's my opinion. Samsung galaxy y is a very cute phone ever made! I love it's design. But when I knew that this samsung galaxy note 8.0 don't have a flash light. I'm kinda disappointed :(

The 3G version has a proximity sensor, an additional black circle and earpiece grill is visible so dorky as it would be, but I am sure you can hold it against your ear to make a phone call.

For the N5100 or 3G version, the earpieces are supplied, at least in the Philippines. I've seen video box opening of the wifi only version and the earphones are not supplied with them.
