Samsung Galaxy Proclaim S720C - User Reviews

  • I truly love my proclaim. It has been through hell. Dropped daily, left out in a field lost for a night and day (pouring rain) and generally been abused consistently. Yet, it still holds up, has the best wifi connections, voice recorder, simplest custom settings, and obvious unmatched durability. My only complaint is a serious one in that the battery appears to be junk. I've tried two or three and none had reasonable lifespan. I have reverted to an old smaller flip phone battery wedged into place by rolled electrical tape. I have to remove it to charge it in its original phone, but since it is no longer my primary phone (another spell of time that I lost it & was forced to "move on") I find d the Hassel still worth it. Throw in that I only paid $50 fr it used off eBay back in early 2013....I gotten well past its money worth twice over. Considering that any one of these new phones wouldn't survive a week with me, I can't praise it enough. :-)

  • Okay I need help I have a very bad problem my proclaim has minutes but won't let me get on the internet or call or text or receive anything can someone help me plzz

  • yep same here

  • great little phone to have has a back up.... my screen on my good phone broke and it was great to have something so I didn't have tobuy another one right away.

  • strange that so many has or having problems with this phone // iv'e had mine pass 2.6 yrs with no real bad problems.. my one problems was that the speech to txt was not always so accurate//other than that worked just fine// i have a different samsung phone with at&t very good phone, but same problem speech to txt not always accurate most times either // bought girlfriend lg tribute cell speech to test 10x's better, far more accuate rarely make mistakes// why can't samsung do as well.. speaking clearly and at norman pace still can't get words write //it has it's moments @ times but not many as the Samsung Brand should // need to get it together samsung your rep is on the line @ lease with me // my next phone will definitely be LG

  • I have one and it doesn't have android 4.1. Either you are commenting on the wrong phone, or they being mean and not sending an update to mine

  • HAve had the phone for just over 2 years, operating on Verizon... Like it, GPS is great when I travel. The only two problems is the phone seems to run slower now. It will pause for 30 seconds somtimes before dialing.. Or 30 seconds 30 to 40 seconds before converting a dictation to text.

  • I read reviews and I haven't had the problems with mine. Only problem was after a couple of years the charging port stopped working. Solved by purchasing a battery dock charger with a couple 2050 mAh batteries for Proclaim. I lost my 1st one recently & bought a refurbished one. Excellent. It charges fine but I like the convenience of switching batteries. Good 1st android.

  • The phone is extremely slow. The touchscreen will not work. Why is it so difficult to unlock the phone? I press and hold down the side button waiting for the screen to come on and finally when it does it gives me the options to restart or shut down the phone. It freezes up all the time. Apps will not work correctly. Google is slow and unresponsive. Every time I have an app up it shuts down with a message (Facebook is not responding, Google is not responding) the phone works even slower connected to my wifi. Don't even try making a call. You press call and it may or may not call. I've actually had the phone to start dialing a number five minutes after I tried to call someone. The phone will shut down in the middle of apps running. I'm not happy with this phone.

  • This phone is ok. I've had several problems with it, but I chalk it up to the fact that I purchased it as a refurbished phone. Refurbished electronics rarely work as well as new. I just wish I could get bcmon to work on it.

  • If guys updated ur phone system ...straight talk doesn't condone that...had many phones since my first proclaim( had three in a row due to weak charge port .last finally worked great.)HTC one Samsung s2 Samsung centura. ....picked up my old proclaim for fun .decided to root it.worked is now operating 3times faster cleaner than no problems with hardware or software..not

  • I have the exact same problems. It worked great for a year and a half now it does all of the above and sometimes won't let me text!

  • I've had this phone over two years, same battery and I have never had a problem. I see a lot of people complaining about features but I write that off to operator error. A great starter phone with Android 4.1. I can use this phone under rough weather conditions. Being a farmer I have this phone with me ALL the time reception is very good, the screen and features are on the small side but for a starter phone , and the LOW cost, the phone is well worth it.

  • I purchased this phone approximately 1 year ago and it worked great at first. Within the past month I experienced a greatttt deal of problems. 1)The phone shuts off when I am using it. 2)It wouldn't allow me to call out on numerous occasions. 3)After using it for a short amount of time it gets extremely hot. 4)It will show a full charge and the screen went dark with a message that stated, "battery critically low."

  • I have had this phone for coming up on about a year and a half for the first year there were no major problems and it was perfect, but now the ear piece randomly glitches and the screen (sometimes) either reads slowly to my touch or doesn't read at all. I have kept my phone in great condition, but I even had my bf do a hard reset on the phone (which mind you ended up taking around 8-10 hours) and it still is having problems I wanna junk it immediately!!! It can be a good phone, you just have to be one of the luck few who get a non-P.O.S. phone out of the millions of junk ones.

  • The "cam" looking thing to the left of the ear piece is the light sensor. When you put your brightness display on auto, it senses the amount of light and adjusts the brightness accordingly.

  • I've had this phone since it first came out at StraightTalk in 2012. It is by far the BEST phone I've ever had. No problems texting or with dropped calls. The batteries don't last long enough after a while, but honestly does any battery? LOL I just bought a few extra. It doesn't help I play a lot of games on it. After almost two years I'm itching to get a newer model. My screen has chipped in 2 places where I dropped it. Just in the past month it's started to overheat when I'm on it too long, but I would definitely buy it all over again.

  • Same problem! This was given to me as a gift. After talking around the 10 minute mark my ear gets blasted with screeches, pops, crackles, and hissing sounds. The person Im talking to says I sound garbled. I was wondering if it was the phone or Straight Talk. Now I know. What a piece of garbage!!

  • when viewing the pictures in your gallery in thumbnail view, hold your finger on top of the picture that you wish to delete, it will select the pic & give you the options.

  • I had the same problem but went to amazon and bought a higher powered battery and so far its lasted another year. I like this phone for the price.

  • I have paired my S720C with my Lexus Bluetooth and I can make and receive calls. However, my contact list in the phone will not D/L to the car. The car has a D/L function to retrieve the contact list and the phone dings when I select the car D/L function but after a few seconds I get a mesg on the car screen saying the D/L failed. Anyone have a suggestion about this problem. Thanks

  • Best phone I've had. I bought this phone a little over a year ago. Been pleased with the performance since day 1.

  • One month after the one year warranty expired, people we called on the cell phone could not understand our voice. It sounded garbled and like we were taking in side a can. We cancelled our Straight Talk service, bought and iPhone 5S for $130 at Walmart and started service with Verizon on our sons plan for the same $45 a month that we were paying Straight talk for unlimited talk, text and Internet. The Samsung was fine for the initial year.

  • How do I use the GPS ?

  • Wat is the thing on the front of the phone by the ear peice looks kinda like a cam but its not....

  • Basic phone can't do anything like use the camera till you buy a SD card! But it does run pretty good on the internet! It also hasn't dropped any calls like my way more expensive phone

  • You have no idea how lucky you are! Maybe it's because you don't talk on it very much, yep, must be!

  • I agree, we should file a class action law suit for a new phone from a different manufacturer and money for all of our pain and suffering!

  • I sure wish I would have read these comments before I bought my Samsung Galaxy. Same problems, after only a month or so it started making very loud, high pitched noises when I would talk on it, not all of the time, mostly if I was on it for 10 minutes or so, like it was overheating or something. It sounded like when an old cassette tape got stuck in the player. It is my business phone and I can't hear my customers, sometimes my customers can't hear me, they say it sounds like I'm sticking my head out of a car window while driving down the highway, it gets so bad that they have to hang up. Can anybody help me?

  • Get battery etc at Amazon.com. I am very satisfied with this one I ordered. New 1800mAh Li-ion Battery For Samsung Galaxy Proclaim S720C (Net10 and StraightTalk) Sold by ReelWonder I ordered a higher mAh I think this phone needs it. My problems were solved after inserting it and buying a new charger(got it at Bestbuy)

  • It might be referring to the htc rhyme.

  • Yea throw the phone away and get a different one. :-) Yes is you hold the text message for a couple of sec a garbage can will appear then just touch it. Message is now gone

  • thank you so much I've had the phone for a day and a half and has been trying to figure that out since I got it

  • I have had this phone for about a year. I use it on my motorcycle, boat and in my cars as GPS/Radio/Weather Alert/Talk2TXT/and sometimes as a phone. I tether to my tablet or laptop and watch NetFlix in campsites that do not have wifi (YES, it will stream NetFlix with litle to no buffering without wifi). The battery life is as good as any other. Screen is small by most people's standards, but I like a phone that fits in my shirt pocket. Holds a 32G card, which I have (good for a couple dozen or so movies and/or tens of thousands of songs) This is one of the last phones straighttalk has on the verizon network. I would buy another today if I broke mine. I have not had one single problem with this phone. I have never used a case to cover it, and it still looks new. I was with Verizon before (since before they were verizon), actually I had the same account and phone number since 1996 and never thought I would leave Verizon until I decided to buy this phone. I transferred my number very easy. I must have Verizon for my home signal to work. If the screen size is not an issue and you don't need to have the NEWEST phone on the market, this phone is perfect. $48 a month (WITH TAX) includes unlimited EVERYTHING! Set up with bank account withdraw to refill was simple.

  • Turn auto rotate off

  • Can not find last pictures taken. Plus I can't delete the old pictures in gallery. Menu choices are only share and slideshow.

  • This is the worst phone I've ever owned. I've had it for less than a year and it it glitches out and loses its battery within 2-3 hrs. Sometimes it'll go from 85% battery and then glitch and shut off and be under 10%.

  • This is hands down one of the best cell phones that I have ever owned. I had an iPhone 3GS once and this phone tops that one. This phone may not have the absolute latest technology, but it does a damn good job!

  • when i set up the notification sound for facebook it also asks if i want a led light to flash on incoming notifications. does this phone have an led light like that?

  • Have a problem with the camera. Take a picture and can not find it. It did not go to the gallery. Everything was working well then no pictures in the gallery they just disappeared and not sure what I did.

  • I know that if you click the 'Power' button key on the side of your phone in Camera mode it will Lock the screen. You click it again it unlocks it. Maybe the same is going on with your situation?

  • This phone is not bad at all. When I first bought it, it was $179.99. That price is now down to $99. Very good entry-level smartphone. The best thing about it, is the fact that it runs on Verizon's network under Straight Talk. Can't beat the $45 a month price, with unlimited talk, text, and 2 GB of data. (I've read that figure has actually gone up to 2.5 GB.) THis thing is TOUGH too. I actually had a cement block fall on mine from 2nd story, and it kept working, although it did have a scratch on the front. The only reason that I got rid of it, was the fact that I run alot of applications. The 512 MB of ram and 1 GHZ processor just weren't cutting it for me anymore, and neither was the 1500mah battery. For most users, this wouldn't be an issue. Other than that the screen is a bit too small. Overall rating of 5 out of 10, but for a beginner, I would give it an 8. Overall value 9.

  • My phone is stuck sideways when you go to type how do you fix it

  • exactly what problem are you talking about?

  • I am having the same problem and its happening more and more, my phone is less than a month old, did you ever figure out was causing this

  • I have just the cheap starter phone from Straight Talk and I was hoping to replace it w. Samsung Galaxy Pr. but now I wonder....it looks like I will have the same problem with it: the messages being sent ore received later than the actual.

  • There is NO forward facing camera on this! What folks are seeing and saying is a "front facing camera" is actually the light/proximity sensor, that all the samsung smart phones I've owned have had.

  • how do i turn on the front camera

  • There is a front facing camera. You just can't access it. Look closely.

  • I know! Yet no option for one. It's a spying device!

  • Overall, I like this phone. There are some major issues though and I won't choose it again. At 6 months the charger port is faulty. I've been running it while on the charger for 2 months just be able to use it. Outgoing texts are often delayed for 24 hours or more... the same with texts that come in and won't download for 24 hours or more :( Calls are dropping frequently now and the phone has decided to turn off when it wants. it seemed to be a good phone for the price, but not if I have to replace it every six months due to all these issues.

  • Ebay!

  • EBay man, got everything for these phones.

  • Nice phone, but the screen scratches easily. I have never owned a phone that scratched so easily, get screen protectors!

  • my first 200.00 proclaim crashed after 2 months so I was sent a refurbished phone that lasted only 5 months and it crashed, now im having my 3rd one sent to me. wondering how long this one will last?

  • I have been using this phone for about a year now. So far for the price, I love it. Its affordable and what it offers has reached my expectations. Only thing I dislike about it is the fact that when I play music, google play music pops up and will not close. It lags a bit and I had gone through 2. It lasts about 6 months before the charger port plug goes out. I had replaced it once and now my 2nd one has same problem. I'm having to get another phone. The design with curved screen is nice and battery is ok. But I warn you, great phone for price, but if you can handle overheating and a broken charher port, this is worth it

  • For 99 digit speed dial, press the firs number and hold the second number like you would hold the single digit speed dial.

  • i badly need brand new battery (original) of this as well as galaxy proclaim. where can I find these? help?!

  • Ive had the same issue with texting. Some times when i try to text it just doesnt register. When this occurs i can turn it to the side and the text screen goes grey and still does not register. Then it will randomly decide to start working when it feel like it. Otherwise i like the phone.

  • hey can someone help me I need to buy a back cover lost the one that came with the phone. I been searching for a while no luck with the s720c. I need the battery cover that came with it.

  • There is a front camera its just hard to see look closer

  • Yeah I don't know how people.don't like the phone. The only bad thing is that the period is close to the space so u click the period button alot

  • I like the phone. It works fine and the wifi works well. The only promblems is that their is no front camera and the batter doesn't last long.

  • I know! It makes me so mad!

  • Well all I can say is ... junk ... after all of the time it takes to set a new phone up it decided to just not come on when I tried to use it ... It left this morning to wherever junk phones go, and it was only a little under 3 weeks old! well I went back to the site(as 3 weeks of usage didnt give me much confidence in the phone) and decided to have them send me the LG, get this I have to wait for the replacement to come to me AND THEN I have to send it back and go thru the same sh-- and do an exchange !! serious poo poo .. whetever .. and btw when I used the darn thing it roasted the side of my head too

  • Has anyone had problems with text messages being delayed? No problems before with previous Straighttalk/Samsung products. Running it off wi fi at home..Is there some setting I need to change?

  • Has anyone had problems with text messages being delayed? No problems before with previous Straighttalk/Samsung products. Running it off wi fi at home..Is there some setting I need to change?

  • There isn't a front camera. Apparently you need that to get snap chat..

  • Does anybody know how to get the speed dial to work past number 9?

  • why is snapchat not compatible with it???

  • Light sensor, to turn off the screen when you put the phone against your face. It is not another camera.

  • That is a light sensor. It dims the screen when you have next to your ear. This causes less drain on the battery. I does not have a front camera.

  • light sensor and proximty sensor for auto screen brightness function and also turns screen off when it senses it next to your face.

  • I have had this phone for 5 months. I HATE THIS PHONE! From the beginning the battery only lasted 3-4 hours. and from there it went downhill. for the past 2.5 months when I charge it, I have to stay in the same room while it charges which takes at least 6 hours to charge it. It gets so incredibly hot that I can hardly handle it...I have to let it cool before I can use it. The key board doesn't register when you push on the keys. I no longer get any voice mail message notifications. The list is endless. Straight talk refused to give me a different model of phone. I don't want another fire hazard for a phone! Horrible customer service! Horrible phone!

  • ihave a proclaim s 720c but i have to ask is that a camer on the left side the front speaker

  • Roncion, What method did you use to root, and can you point me to the instructions to root? Thanks. email to chowboyjack(at)gmail(.com)if you please. Chowboy

  • Ive had this phone for a while now not one pronlem. Love this phone and the Hd video recorder wow. Phone to me is just like the apple Iphone In many way's. Get this phone so worth the mony....

  • I have had this phone for about a month now and I love it. I would call it a great bang for your buck phone. I rooted mine and have found that it can run games very well that googleplay says are incompatible. For the price this phone really can't be beat.

  • To delete Text Messages just tap message (green smiley) and hold you finger over the name of the thread and up will pop "delete thread" or you can open the tread and delete a single message.

  • I read all these posts here about people totally unhappy with their phones, but........I've had mine 2 years and never, ever had an issue. So......I'll just call myself "Lucky"......but some of these complaints are a joke. Like the guy who is complaining because it got scratched up in his back pack....well, it doesn't get scratched up if it doesn't come into contact with something "harder" than it's glass or plastic. What did you expect?

  • Please help! Does anyone know how to delete text messages once they've been received? The manual that is provided with the phone is absolutely awful.

  • U know what is amazing is.every idiot that whines about oh well i couldnt return my phone..cause i dont have my receipt or they are 2 or 4 days past 30 days and its cause the phone is such a piece of crap!!!!! you know what you deserve it cause when you buy a prepay phone like walmarts straight talk you have to buy the phone outright!!!! now maybe its just me but if your gonna lay done $150 plus for an electronic piece of equipment that ur buying to depend its like i said you deserve it giving you problems cause call me crazy but for an extra $15 you can have a 2year exstended warrenty for your piece of crap phone and that same day you have ir phone turn on and ur number transfered you then register it for its warrenty its an unlimited warrenty just so you know that means you can run it through your washer and dryer the run it over with your car and smash it with a sledge hammer into a million pieces then all you do is call the number for your warrenty if you lost that call wallmart they will give you the number and they will ask you if you can have a pre paid ups label e-mailed to you and you can print it out or they will need your mauling address so they can mail it to you,so after you have the pre paid ups return shipping label you put your piece if crap in a small box whatever u want to pack it in then with CLEAR PACKING TAPE ATTACH THE UPS RETURN LABEL TO THE PACKAGE MAKE SURE U COVER THE WHOLE LABEL WITH CLEAR PACKING TAPE SO IT CANT BE DAMAGED AND DROP IT OFF AT YOUR NEAREST UPS STORE!!!!!! ONCE THEY RECEIVE THE PHONE WHICH HAS TO MATCH WHAT U REGISTERED FOR THE WARRENTY THEY WILL THEN SEND BACK TO YOU A WALMART CARD WITHE THE FULL AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE PHONE MINUS THE EXTRA $15 YOY SPENT FOR THE WARRENTY

  • try the lg optimus zip. its very comparable only with a slide out keypad. it gets service on verizon according to straightalk. i would call them to double check for your area but sometimes doing research can come in handy and save you some hassle ;)

  • yes. you can return the phone to a local walmart store for a complete refund with your receipt (or the piece of paper that comes with the phone should suffice) or exchange if they have the phone there you want. if they don't have the phone you want then ask for a gift card and go order it online! ill be doing this today...should've known better than to switch from my good ole LG brand, it has lasted forever until the charging port finally gave out (not uncommon for cell phones in general). try the Lg optimus zip, which is extremely comparable to this phone ;)

  • Junk junk junk Video download is slow or doesn't work at all Have to reset it all the time

  • I love this phone! I've had it for a year and now I'm buying one for my husband b/c he wants one for his birthday next week :-)

  • I have had the phone for about 2 weeks now.It doesnt handle video/audio well at all.It is really unusable.Does anyone know if there is a fix for this? I can be contacted at [email protected]

  • it's a great phone I don't know what this guy's problem is

  • That's amazing after you couldn't help me with your piece of s*** phone now I can't talk to anybody I tried to return my phone to the Walmart because I couldn't find the receipt was a day too late What a f****** scam I'm sorry I shouldn't use language I am but it pisses me off its cost me a lot of money. and you want me to call bunch of f****** towel heads up and talk to them they use this is t*** on a bowl you'll get f*****

  • Soo Im Actually having this problem so wat exactly do i do?

  • Use pic2shop from goggle playstore. It's great!

  • That happened to mine, however before to get it off airplane mode I would hit mobile data to make the switch. so if that's what you're doing, try hitting airplane mode again and that should put it on mobile data. If you've already done that, sorry for the reiteration.

  • yes i had it for 6 mos until it got on airplane mode then i went and bought a new one had it for a week sd card want reading and freezing then bought another one and had it for a wk screen kept flickering really bad. but straight talk will send you a free phone if there is no water damage but you have to call them and go step by step of what they want you to do which never works and c=make them replace your phone all of there phones have 1 yr warranty

  • After having this phone for less than a year I have had a whole list of problems. In short it sometimes makes a high pitched click/noise when I am trying to talk to people, sometimes who I am talking to says it sounds like I am talking to them from inside of a box, I'll be typing texts but the letters won't show up, and for over a day I could not get service on it even though I had a new card out on. Straight talk provides terrible service and the employees are nearly impossible to understand which is why I am thankful I got a Walmart warranty on this thing. I am getting a refund from them and you can be sure I won't be buying another phone like this! The only redeeming things about this is I like having eBay updates on the go...but even then if you are not careful you will get a warning call like I did from straight talk about using too much data. Stay away from the phone. It may work great at first but it will all go down hill from there.

  • I have went through 4 different proclaim phones from 3 different walmart. All of the phones had a loud squealing noise when talking on it. They would freeze when texting or ending calls. Loved it when I first got it. Luckily, I was able to handle all of the transactions at Walmart instead of waiting weeks to have another phone. Right now I am back to my basic reliable straighttalk phone. I wouldn't recommend this phone.

  • just got the phone... is nice but some apps i try to get say "phone is not compatable with this version" I need version 2.2 and up. not sure what that means or if i can do something about it like get some kind of update. If anyone has an answer would like to hear

  • Yep, this phone pretty is pretty bad. Especially if your using straight talk. Samsung wouldn't provide customer service yet they are listed in the manual as the contact. Hmmm. The glass and plastic also get chipped just from having it in a backpack, within 2 months I had 5 deep cuts in the glass and plastic.

  • Get GPS Essentials from Google play. It's free. Use Google Maps which is already on the phone also.

  • I am having the same problem. I bout this phone in Oct.,before Dec it lost all ability to connect to any type of network or wifi. Where there should be service bars, network type or wifi it was just a circle with a slash through it. It took ten days to get a replacement. When I got my new refurbished one it did the same thing three days later. Ive had the phone for less than three months and haven't been able to use it for a month.

  • I have this phone and there's 2 sensors on the front by the listening piece. What are these for? How do I activate usage of these? Is one a alert light for texts/calls?

  • Light sensor, to turn off the screen when you put the phone against your face. It is not another camera.

  • I Got mine on thanksgiving of 2012.And on the 25 or 26 or december it "SOMEHOWE GOT STUCK IN AIRPLANE MODE"?means i have had it for about a month)The woman at the phone store in walmart9where 9 bought it)Said that happens with SOME of the proclaims!!!that some of them mess up and some dont!!Now i have to get a new one!!!!!Has this happened to anyone else???

  • on this phone, whats that little camera on the front of the phone.

  • I got the some thing through net 10 they told me I had to go up to 10 days with out a phone. I think I talked to 5 different people. I also was on the phone with them for 2 hours. Just for them to tell me they have to send me a new phone. i am to get my phone tomorrow so we will see how this one works.

  • I havnt seen any problems with this phone I think I've been a little rough with it dropped it a couple times with case but no problems with operating system, vm, browser,

  • How do you file a complaint with the FCC? I am having the same problem that you had with this phone and thinking I should file a complaint. The phone only worked for two months!

  • I got this phone about 2 months ago. It was working pretty well up until yesterday (had a few strange things happen prior to yesterday, like having the phone freeze on me when I tried to use the camera, having it go on and off when I tried putting in my voicemail password) but these things always seemed to correct themselves after a few minutes, or after I took out the battery. But yesterday the phone stopped being able to receive or make calls and lost all browser capabilities. I called Straight Talk (on a different phone) and went through the run around with them for like two hours! They kept transferring me to different departments, with each new person asking me the same exact questions and telling me to do the same exact things-so annoying! Finally they were like "We need to send you a new phone" So now I have to send back the old one and wait for them to send me a new one! I will be without a phone for a week at least! I really hope this new phone doesn't turn out like this one. Are a lot of people having the same problem that I am? I am thinking that I should file a complaint against Samsung...I will wait to see what happens with the new phone, but if I end up with the same issue I am definitely filing a complaint against them-I mean I paid 179.00 $ for this thing and it only worked for 2 months!

  • Did u get a refurbished phone and how long after they were released did u get it?

  • When you get the no symbol instead of bars dial *22890 to reprogram the phone. Happened to me yesterday, and I just wrote this with my proclaim.

  • I just ordered this phone, haven't received it yet. I guess I should've read these reviews first. Can I take the un-opened phone to my local Wal_Mart for a refund?

  • File an FCC complaint against Straight Talk and Samsung. Samsung will shift the blame and say that it is Straight Talk's problem. Remind Samsung that they are the manufacturer of this overpriced paperweight.

  • You're overdue for a major crash.

  • WAIT.

  • I too have this worthless piece of crap from Straight Talk. It worked perfectly for about a month, and then strange things started to happen. I could not access my voice mail. I had to create a voice mail account at least 5 times. I could not access the internet due to so-called connection problems. Then it would go into airplane mode. Then the volume of the call changes. One could barely hear or understand what the other caller is saying. Yesterday morning, I could not receive or make a phone call. I could not call 911 without hearing "Welcome to Verizon." Your number is invalid or does not exist. Excuse me. This is a Samsung problem. If the phone is unable to connect to a network, there is something major wrong with the circuit board. I have a neighbor who has Straight Talk and she can use her phone. I have filed several FCC complaints about this phone. Maybe if everyone who has this phone do the same thing, then maybe something just might be done.

  • i disagree i have had mine for about 2 months and i love it it compleatly dose what i need it to do

  • The Proclaim does NOT have an auto-focus camera so you'll have to download an app for that first... None come to me at once but I know they have a few for free... Then install a bar-code reader...

  • I've had this phone for about a month. I talk on the phone and I can hardly hear the person on the other end. If you're in a quiet room it's ok. The speaker works great but sometimes you want to be private. Also, I had internet capabilities when I first got the phone. Now I can only get internet off of WiFi. If I can't get these problems fixed I will never but another one again.

  • I am trying to download the Square Register app and it fails every time. My husband has this same phone and was able to download the same app! I'm frustrated...any tips on what I should do?

  • I need know how i can use or active the GPS on my phone!!! Thanks

  • we bought two proclaims two months ago and we are right now trying to figure out what so many are talking about on here... it's stuck in airplane mode and the phone is unusable... we talked to straight talk customer service for a long time and they made no notice to the fact that this is a common problem with this phone... kept asking if it got wet or dropped... the phones and service have been great until now just hope mine doesn't do the same thing in a week. Mine does tend to turn to airplane mode on its on sometimes which is annoying. They'll replace it, it just takes longer than we would like.

  • Is there anyway to change the ringtone for sms or calls for each individual contact? I've looked for 3 days and can't find a way..

  • YES ... "Pic2shop" free from Google Play. It's made for a fixed focus camera. It works very well. I use it all the time.....

  • The Proclaim is a rebranded Sprint Illusion so you can also buy a case at the Sprint store near you... Just make sure it is for the Illusion...

  • Android v2.3 called Gingerbread...

  • ANDROID is Google's smartphone platform.... almost like the iPhone but with a few differences. If you can navigate an iPhone then you should have no trouble with an ANDROID ... BTW, ANDROID is now the number 1 smartphone in the USA (as of this summer 2012) ...

  • I have this phone and can say that it is unlimited ONLY for the native apps that come pre-installed on the phone. If you add apps then the cut off is at 2 gigs of data and NO, there is no roaming with this phone. It works only on Verizon pre-paid 3g network... any where in the USA that there is a tower... NO home area with this phone. Home areas went out few years back with most carriers...

  • This phone comes default with NO auto-focas camera... it can't read barcodes...

  • DO NOT GET THIS PHONE!!!! I got mine on July 9th of this year... Had it less than 3 months. Two days ago, my phone did what many others who've had this phone for about 2 months have also complained about. Phone suddenly showed the "no service" sign. I put it into airplane mode and it got stuck in that. Finally gave in and did a factory reset on the phone, hoping this would fix the problem. It did get it out of airplane mode, but still had the "no service" signal, and basically no good for use other than as an extremely expensive paperweight! I'm going to be sending it back, and just pray (fingers crossed, especially after reading that some people are on their 3rd or 5th Proclaim) that it doesn't have the same problem again. Unfortunately, this is the only smart phone available through Straight Talk for use in my area. Otherwise I would DEFINITELY be going with a different phone!! Don't let good reviews by people who haven't had this phone very long fool you!! Up until this happened, I would have given the phone a great review too, but now after researching into it I've discovered this seems to be a fairly common problem with the Proclaim! There's obviously some kind of manufacture defect with the Proclaim. Maybe this doesn't happen to everyone's Proclaim, but with as frequently as it does happen, you have to ask yourself if you want to take the chances that you will be one of the many that does have this happen!

  • Dude, got another Proclaim like my review said, a week in and it did the same thing as the first phone, "universal no" symbol instead of bars. If I put it in "Airplane Mode" I had to take out the battery and "hard boot" it to get it back in operating order. I spent an hour and a half on the phone with Straight Talk this time and thankfully dropped off my second Proclaim at FedEx this morning. I have read several customer reviews, one guy was on his fifth Proclaim and still having issues so, it's not an isolated incident. BTW, I was about a month and a half in before my first Proclaim imploded so you're about due... Good luck!

  • Too late for me, I wish I knew this before buying mine. Goin through the same exact situation, just sent mine back for the first time a few days ago, I guess I'll see what happens...

  • I bought the Samsung proclaim about a month and a half ago and ever since I got it, it has been a great phone and has never had any problems your situation was probably just something doesn't happen often. Samsung proclaim is a great phone

  • I bought my first Samsung Galaxy Proclaim from WalMart back in July of this year. The phone kept getting extememly hot when I charged it. Six weeks in the phone died, no phone signal, no internet, no bars... nothing. Where the bars should be there was a "universal no" symbol (a circle with a slash through it), I called Straight Talk and I was on the phone with them for TWO HOURS straight before they finally admitted the phone was faulty and agreed to send a new one. Within two weeks of receiving the new phone (which took a week and a half), the new phone died, exact same symptoms as the first. I thought I was being smart when I bought the phone, I did my research, the text blogs loved it, thought it was great for a low-end smartphone ($180 is low end?) What I failed to read was the reviews from actual customers...lesson learned. Everybody loves the phone at first but soon come to hate it with the same unbridled passion that I do. This phone is a cheap IPhone ripoff, as evidenced by Apple's successful lawsuit against Samsung. If I can save one person from the aggravation of owning this p.o.s. then I will feel vindicated that my pain and aggravation has helped one person avoid the same. As of late I have been in an infuriating back and forth with Straight Talk including many, many phone calls and emails. They assure me that my return slip email is on the way. When nothing arrives days later I call again, same assurances, same result. None of their support staff speak English as a first language by the way, be prepared to ask them every question about three times before you understand their responses. Heed my warning, stay away from this phone. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell you family, this phone is a stinking piece of rotted fecal matter and so is Straight Talk's customer service.

  • I got this about a week ago and like it a lot except for one thing. It says it has a standby time of around 16 days. I have to charge mine every single night or it quits about noon. That is a LONG way from 16 days. And that's if I don't even use it.

  • Is there a frpnt camera

  • I got my phone as a gift. Its the best gift ever. It does take time to learn how to use it and type on the keyboard. its like anything else. Take the time and get use to it. It does almost anything that the expensie phone does for cheaper. way to go straight talk and samsung. THE ONLY THING I DONT LIKE ABOUT THEY WILL NOT LET U HOOK THE PC UP AND RUN THE NET OFF THE PHONE AS MODEM. If i could do that be perfecr. Buy a stylus from amizon it help i am using it now.

  • Please confirm that you can successfully read any ordinary barcodes. To have this function would be my only important reason for buying a smartphone and Straight Talk is the least expensive plan around.

  • Hi, thanks for the review. i have also read the good review and look fwd to buy same. how can i buy same and make it run on a tata indicom service...some one pl answer

  • I purchased the Proclaim, yesterday, having reached intolerable frustration: My internet service at home was on the blink for two days! I have an office (private practice)in town, another half-time job, and 20 acres at home (in the woods and under a hill) to care for. I was feeling completely disorganized between the three sets of responsibilities. For phones, I have SKYPE through the internet as my home phone and a cell phone for my office (but no internet service there) and no cell phone reception in my home, -- one bar in the driveway. I needed a solution; 1) to organize myself, 2) to catch phone calls at home from my private practice clients, 3) to add the internet to my private practice. When DSL failed at home, I was at a loss. And, I am dependent on the net, having owned computers since the 1980s -- Apple and MAC but I didn't want an expensive iPhone or an expensive plan.I investigated and learned that a new tower owned by US Cellular would provide reception to my house but I was too cheap to go with US Cellular at $90 for an unlimited plan or $80 for Verizon (a leasee on the tower). Somehow I ended up at Walmart, learned about the Proclaim on the Verizon network. I read its mostly good reviews and after several weeks of debating, took the plunge last night. The Proclaim is a mini computer with cell phone service. This morning I downloaded Skype and Kindle, hooked in my three e-mail accounts, used the calendar app on Proclaim to organize my appointments and work at home, in my office, and at the job. After I got the hang of Android, Proclaim was so easy and quick for the most part. I feel that I have stepped into the modern world on-the-cheap. Thank you, Straight Talk. Thank you Samsung!

  • You can get cases for this phone at Amazon. They have some nice ones but don't buy from ExtremeCases. You will be waiting a month for the case. Think they wait till they get a big bunch of orders then order for China. So u will be waiting quite awhile.

  • I'm using a QR reader called Scan that I got from Play. It works fine. Can't do barcodes though, just QR codes.

  • does this guy have a sim card slot.?

  • its a sencor for calls when its near ur face it trun off the screen during calls as not to bush buttons. other is a light sensor for screen brightness

  • that "doesn't" work.

  • Those are sensors

  • how come there's a front facing camera that dont work?

  • Amazon.com

  • try ebay..thats where i have gotten all my phones and phone covers.

  • try lifescan barcode/qr reader in the app store. I use it all the time and have no problems.

  • You can buy it in Rs.16000 from pakistan.

  • Try looking up QR Barcode Scanner on Google Market.

  • I've been using prepaid phones all my life so ive gotten used to being behind the times phonewise. Coming from some pretty basic phones this a huge step up for me. All i really wanted was a better camera and internet service and this phone has delivered that and much more. I swear its like carrying around a computer in my pocket. Plus Ive got tons of free games to play around with when I'm bored. It's an excellent phone, however lack of auto focus on the camera is disappointing, as I cannot scan qr codes without it.

  • when it will be launch in india.

  • Try ebay. They have lots.

  • nice mobile 111111111

  • Does anyone know how to download the app for a GPS on this phone?

  • amazon type in samsung galaxy proclaim cases

  • Does anyone know where to get covers for this phone?

  • the answer is yes cases are available through asmazon.com either hard or soft some come with a car charger.

  • Has anyone else been able to get a barcode QR reader app to work on this phone on the StraightTalk system?

  • Simple yet feature rich, the proclaim is surprising every step of the way. I enjoy the Swype function and 1 GHz processor the most. It does pretty good on battery. 1.5 days with heavy Web searching and video watching. I love it

  • Bar codes and QR codes are on everything these days. They provide information when scanned by a phone camera. I have tried to download fourteen different apps that are designed to read QR codes but they say they are "incompatible with Samsung S720C." This is a major disappointment for me. It successfully downloaded other apps.

  • I love mine, runs Android Gingerbread 2.3 and the coverage is excellent seeing it uses the Verizon network via straighttalk. $179 for phone / $45 a month unlimited

  • can you get a case ror it

  • Thank you for your kind info.. I'd like it..

  • When it will be launched in india

  • Guys, plzz tell me if we can unlock this phone so that we can use with another service provider.

  • Price at Walmart is $179.99. I have the IPhone 4 and tired of paying over $100 month for service. I got this phone and for the past week am very surprised at the ability of phone. As far as 3G outside your home area it works. I was over 50 miles away from my home area and in another state and it worked fine when changing network to roam. Just waiting to see if indeed the data plan is unlimited or if they cut you off but if its unlimited then best available for people on budget or tired paying crazy amounts of money for smartphone service.

  • what is android version

  • What is the expected price of this phone???

  • Compinie who have this phone now Videotron (Qc On) Canada

  • This phone is great if you understand the target group. This phone is not designed to surpass all the expensive smart phones out there (iPhone 4S, Nexus, Droid 3, etc...). This is a budget smart phone that runs on verizon's network. Exactly what I was looking for. Don't expect this one to win any races, but it is fast enough for me.

  • android 2.3

  • Great phone at a great price. My friend has the iphone and he is jealous of the proclaim because of the performance and coverage not to mention it was half the price of his iphone.

  • dont like the camera

  • very nice phone. no mechanical button to loose. and very cheap. corny gorilla glass =)

  • is this android..? if yes what's the version., ?

  • Not bad to see...
