Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro I547 - User Reviews

  • Does this phone run on the 4g LTE network or just 3g? Thank you.

  • This phone is hard to kill, mine still works after 4 years of pure hell, I dropped it probably a thousand times as it keeps flying out of my shirt pocked. The screen is cracked, it took water from the toilet, the battery door is kinda loose, but the bugger still works normally. However in 2019 it is getting a bit too slow. It runs on an old android version and it is very sluggish just browsing the internet or google map.

  • I love the quality of the phone! I'm not in a job that requires one (I'm a freelance writer) but I am the guy whose phones die on him for bizarre and inexplicable reasons. This is the only android that's been able to keep up with me and I only quit using it because I got a new blackberry. Currently, it's my media player because i don't have to worry about it being in an outer pocket and getting damp or dropping it on the sidewalk and then accidentally kicking it half a block. BTW: Anyone else notice that the only time you can kick a phone on the ground/floor for any kind of distance at all is when you just want to pick the thing up?

  • Tough phone . Mine had to be washed frequently due to nasty job just threw in wash basin lathered up and washed phone with hands . Dropped a few times . Welding slag finally cracked screen had to replace screen . Old eyes making screen to small. Looking for bigger phone still tough, any suggestions out there.

  • My brother Jeff really liked his Rugby Pro until he just plain lost it. He said it was a toughie and he like a smaller phone with good battery; he streams music. Doug

  • In reply to efAston, the bits only break off if you snap the panel on from the bottom up; the right way is to engage those bits at the top and work your way down to the clasp. Cheers, Doug

  • It's not a tough phone. The bits that hold the back panel on break off, so mine's probably not waterproof, the ring is inaudible in noisy environments, and it's not that easy to hear and be heard in noisy environments either. Samsung disabled moving any apps to SD card, so the "8GB" (4.94GB) internal storage is all you've got, and there's heaps of pre-installed stuff you can't uninstall, like Amazon Kindle (150MB). You can't plug a USB stick into it. If you go on-line it's very slow. It is a good size, and it's not bad if you don't pay too much for it.

  • I have had this phone since 2012, so I am going on 5 years. This is the best phone I have ever had. I have rarely seen the battery level below 75%. The phone is tough and can withstand my 2 year-old grandson throwing it on the floor. The only issue I have had is the screen seems to be getting a little slower to respond, but then again, this phone is almost 5 years old, so I still cannot complain.

  • This is a nearly 5-year-old phone. I bought mine around July of 2014. It was nearly 2 years old then. It worked fine for a year or so. but really started to notice a larger loss of efficiency in the 3rd year of ownership. If all of my original apps had never been updated, it would possibly still work reasonably well, but I believe newer versions of apps crept into my phone and most of them work horribly because they have been improved to work optimally with Android versions 5, 6 & now 7. I just purchase a Moto e4 from amazon for $129.99. It was just released in June 2017 so I'm hoping it will function fairly well for 3 years. That is a cost of about 13 cents a day. Shalom and Guns up Double-T

  • I have this phone as a loaner phone right now and let me tell you it is the worst phone I ever had. I've had blackberrys from 2008 work better than this phone. VERY VERY slow and some apps won't work the way they are supposed to (if at all). Really hoping to get my Galaxy S6 Edge back asap because that phone is a GOD compared to this filth. Of course it's a phone from 2012, so what do you expect? But stay away from this phone even if you want it for durability it would still be a mistake.

  • The worst, by long run, cell phone I ever have. Overheat, closed without reason, battery life not really long, speaker cut suddenly, can't do two thing at the same time because it overheat it... and it closed. Really, it's a shitty phone, do not place a dime on this.

  • Joe, thanks very much for the info. Its very helpful have been struggling with changing from 4G. It slows my phone badly, but its okay now. Thanks.

  • Just type *#*#4636#*#* u will be able to setup d network u want, either 2G, WCDMA, 4G etc

  • I've had my rugby for more years than I can count.the only reason I switched was a problem with the charging port. The size was perfect for an outside person such as myself. If you need more technology than it provides you don't need a cell phone, you need a laptop, you have way too much time on your hands.

  • I bought this device in 2013 based on reviews praising its ruggedness because I am clumsy. Unquestionably it is the worst technology purchase I ever made ... and I first programmed with punch cards. .. Yes, it *IS* tough ... & the list of positives comes to a dramatic, locked brakes, stop right there! It drives one mad it is so slow. >> When I sought tech support at my local big name vendor (I always buy unlocked phones & use their pre-paid plans ... we are on first name basis), they laughed & said they actively directed customers away from buying this model because it is such ****. They did their best, but it still does a perfect imitation of a constipated glacier in its speed. .. Being as I am on a very limited fixed income, this is not something I can simply discard & replace. Oh, but I regret I cannot!

  • Love the phone, but I changed computers and need the software to sync all my data, music, photos, calendar and contacts before upgrading to a new phone.

  • I love this phone strong durable and even better than all the Samsung I have used beset ever

  • I never had that problem. I've dropped the phone once fishing it out, but that more of my fault then anything that could be attributed to the phone. Since you wear jeans, you'll have a belt. So buy a clip on case. They're pretty cheap and do alot of preventing accidental fallage. And if you do drop a rugby it's likely it won't be damaged at all. These things are super-tough. I've dropped mine on cement twice and they were okay.

  • I've had this phone for 4 years. I really should upgrade but this thing is bulletproof. It has survived any and all abuse I could throw at it and still works perfectly. If you need a durable phone that can stand up to the mining industry, find a used one and buy it.

  • I bought a vivofit and my phone will not accept it!! Second device that it won't acceot

  • Hi. mostly I use jeans all day. Does it slip in and out of jeans pocket easily?

  • I've had this device 2 years now so it's stood the test of time for me. I work outdoors and I haven't babied this phone at all. It's had lots of knocks and abuse and it's still fully functional. I've had it rooted for about a year, instructions to root this phone can be found at Overall I'm happy with this phone AFTER it was rooted. The biggest minus against this phone is that it doesn't have enough ram or internal storage memory. However it is durable, it's a nice size for one-handed use and to keep in a shirt pocket, it has decent battery life and it's fast enough (once it's rooted). Another plus is you can add a microsd card for extra storage. To be honest even though my contract has expired on this phone I can't really find anything out there that has the right balance of durability, power, and size that would be a big enough improvement to bother with replacing it.

  • I have had this phone (upgraded)for about 1 year and am totally disgusted hangups freezes cuts off and on "by itself or is bugged even calls my landline at times Paying over 2X what can get Straight Talk Unlimited for.

  • I love this phone . Had it for 2 years . Not a scratch . The clips on the battery cover have broken off thought after being slammed on tile floors and stepped on . Still use it in the shower and works fine . I had to disable alot of preinstalled apps to speed it up though and I dont have a sd card for it so memory is extremely limited . Im getting the xperia z3 compact next only because they never made an updated version of this phone

  • I had an HTC One but I messed it up pretty bad and luckily my family plan had insurance. Well I didn't know that insurance wouldn't get me a replacement of my HTC One instead I settled for this piece of junk. First time I got it, it would drop my calls, the 2nd time AT&T send me a 'new'one anyone I'd talk to on the other end could not hear me, and the 3rd time is when I discovered how SLOW it was. When At&T sent me the same phone again I sent the same one back and figured I'd just get out of the contract when it ended. BIGGEST MISTAKE. This phone is a piece of crap. It takes about 1 minute to open any app I tap on. I always say to my friends that if I should ever need to call the police because of a life threatening situation I would probably die before this phone gets to the call screen. Heck, for that matter nothing ever loads. If I text, the screen suddenly goes to the home screen. Or goes back to something I was working on 2 hours ago. But wait, that's not all, the mic magically stops working and works again when it pleases. On top of glitching, it's as though I don't have a smartphone but instead a desktop computer from the 90's in my hand. I've spoken to AT&T about this and each time they send me the same phone. Awful 'help'. Awful piece of a 'phone'.

  • i can't run 3G network on this phone. There is no option in the mobile network manu for WCDMA or dual mood. how can i solve this problem. Please help me. i'm just maiting anyone's reply.

  • i can't run 3G network on this phone. There is no option in the mobile network manu for WCDMA or dual mood. how can i solve this problem. Please help me. i'm just maiting anyone's reply.

  • Is there a decent guide to rooting and flashing this device? It is choked by bloat ware. Really frustrating.

  • " rooted it and flashed CM10.1 ROM" I have never done that how do you do it and what's the benefit of doing it?

  • This phone suited my needs but the charging port went out after about 9 months, Because of a cracked screen, At&t was of no help. Will cost about $139.00 to repair both. Any comments about the charging port ?

  • I hated it when work first issued it. Touchwiz absolutely blows, bloatware chokes. So I rooted it and flashed CM10.1 ROM which upgraded it to Android 4.2.2. It's workable now, more custom notification choices. Linked most apps off internal to SD, no bloat at all. I love this little phone.

  • Get the new Samsung galaxy active works the same but you get a bigger screen and better display. I love this phone way better then the rugby pro.

  • I used my name because I don't care who knows just how furious I am. I recently switched to AT&T from Verizon. That's been one of my biggest mistakes I've ever made. I thought I might save some money. When picking a new phone I asked for something comparable to my Droid Mini. Ha, I chose a Samsung Galaxy Rugby. This phone is the biggest piece of crap I have ever owned. As soon as possible I will be returning to Verizon and my Droid Mini. It does things like change screens at one touch, I'm midi a rely changes screens. This Rugby is about to be thrown and wedged into the wall, then I will hang a frame around it to remind me to never ever change again.

  • user gudie need to download appts from stoage in to phone

  • You don't need any of that, the Rugby is solid as it is. I dropped it 10 feet onto solid concrete, with no damage.

  • No one can hear me when I make a phine call unless I plug in headphones. .

  • I don't receive text notification... no sound either!

  • use zagg or ghost armor i have zagg on samsung galaxy dropped no cracks or breakage got to have extra protection ghost armor on i pad no problem lifetime warranty it goes bad pay shipping or at the store small fee to put on.

  • I had a nice HTC One but shattered the front accidentally. But I did have it insured. Lucky, right? Wrong!! ATT phone insurance gave me a Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro 1547 for a mere $50 as a replacement. That is all they would give me. Now I find I can buy one outright for that price. Perhaps the Samsung suffers from comparison but I really despise the thing. I find it much less user friendly than the HTC One and several camera quirks drive me insane. Video taken on the camera appears fine and plays back fine when I upload it to Facebook. But download it to my computer and they are all turned sideways--as are nearly all of the stills!n Never had an issue with the HTC. I can also find no way to differentiate incoming data (i.e. email, facebook, texts all sound of with the same audio notification. And I find no way to change that. If there is one, it is certainly much more obtuse the the HTC! In my humble opinion, the Samsung is a piece of junk and ATT phone insurance is equally as bad! I could go on.

  • For a rugged phone designed for an outdoor environment it lacks environmental sensors that in conjunction with barometric, temp and humidity apps will help those in the outdoor community a more versatile phone. Make no sesnse making a rugged phone for office environment.

  • dropped rugby in long grass in the pouring rain. Took 2 days to realize where I lost it . Rained off and on for both days . When I found it I accidently turned it on while taking it apart to dry. Started right up. Works great.

  • This phone is not waterproof except under VERY strict conditions. The charging port is very easy to pop out, the camera leaks after a while. How do I know? Because I'm a fishing guide. The first time it fell in the river, blammo, didn't work. Well, it took a while to not work, so it didn't let much water in. When I got the phone, it was advertised as water proof, touting the mil-spec as a selling point. Now they just say "rugged" and humidity resistant on their website. I would have purchased an iphone and an otter box, but the sales rep sold me on this guy. Stay away if you are in need of a durable "rugged" phone. Get an otter box and a phone that they make them for.

  • There is no display cover like Gorilla Glass or other :(

  • What is the Display Protection?

  • What you washed the phone with was not water, but a compound created from water and the clothes detergent you wash your clothes with. Not the same thing. And can you be sure that you had all the ports closed properly?

  • I had this phone for about a month before I accidentally left it in my pocket and washed it. It was not water resistant enough for 10 minutes in the washer. I dried it out, and it powers up, but the speaker and mic no longer work. Not as tough as my old Defy.

  • I suggest you check directly on the samsung website. You'll get the right answer. Hope it will help you. Regards.

  • Anyone figured out where to get a new screen yet? I love this phone and it has survived several drops. A drop directly on it's face while getting out of my car finally cracked the screen though. I do not want to part with this phone and I am not due for an upgrade for over a year. I have looked everywhere I can think of and a few places I didn't think of as well. Not even able to get parts from Samsung direct, best I can tell. Any help out there?

  • Can anyone confirm that this phone has no compass sensor and FM/AM radio? Other sites have differing specs when it comes to these two items. Thanks

  • Sammy, why not such handset same specs., small screen no problem, in small size with dualsim for those on the move, pocket friendly size like pocket duos, can be handle with one hand,

  • Bottom line: Samsung advertises this as a rugged phone, but does not guarantee that it is actually rugged! My glass broke from a very minor fall and Samsung said, "Sorry, that's physical damage, no warranty coverage." Now after five months my SD slot has failed, but I can't warranty it because of the cracked glass. One nice thing: When the phone gets dirty from construction work I can rinse it off under a faucet. Just make sure the back cover is secure, as others said it pops loose very easily.

  • please do review for this phone, like camera and sound quality

  • i wish they have the same looks as Xcover2,

  • Was never supposed to be.. you cannot even compare them 2, one is a top end (htc) and one is meant for sports.

  • not good as htc butterfly

  • Gorilla glass is weak on hit impacts, so it does not fit here.

  • Phone is safe from water damage up to 3 feet for 30 minutes. Touchscreen won't work under water though so don't expect to be snapping pictures under water.

  • I dropped my Galaxy Rugby Pro i547 from a height of just one meter and the glass shattered. My previous iPhone survived much worse falls while protected in an Otterbox case. Unfortunately because this Samsung is marketed as "rugged" nobody makes a truly protective case for it. Also, online parts suppliers snd repair companies don't support the i547. My recommendation: stay away. Get a more common phone (iPhone, Galaxy S3, etc) and a good quality case.

  • Funny phone, it seem resistance to everythings including rusting in salt water but not against screen scratches ! No gorilla glass screen protection.

  • is it waterproof? I mean can it take picture under water?

  • is it shock-resistant? what the difference between mil-std and ip certified?

  • when this phone launch in Indonesia...waitingg

  • I have been looking for my first phone all week on the web. this just might be it

  • i love this phone but the only problem is that it is not found in India .

  • well put!!!!

  • I really want the Samsung I547 Galaxy Pro Rugby is present in Indonesia, please i am waiting for the phone ....please

  • I like this phone. Where to buy one? I'm in the Phil.

  • how can i get?

  • Nice phone, good specs. but i would still prefer the unknown and not released worldwide except japan nd the us soon. the Casio GzOne Type-L that i call a killa phone !

  • Gr8 device, this phone better then Lumia 820.

  • Note: I personally prefer nokia lumia 920 over samsung ativ S

  • If I were u I would replace blackberry and Iphone by LG HTC sony and nokia If you like tough phones that go with you when ur in water and take nearly all the shocks without being affected choose this or sony xperia go (this is better). If you want something that is really amasing you must choose between three major competitors samsung galaxy note 2 LG optimus G and HTC one X+. If you want something that gets all the cool software updates first choose nexus If you want a phone with a brand new system xbox gallery, xbox games cool unibody fast processor super clear screen super camera and other amasing stuff choose between nokia lumia 920 and samsung Ativ S Don't choose iphone bcoz they are expensive and there specs don't deserve it bb are affordable but not that good

  • If I were u I would replace blackberry and Iphone by LG HTC sony and nokia

  • Haha don't compare the company's best phone to the company's toughest one

  • beutiful

  • MIL-STD-810G certified - salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock resistant. MIL-STD-810G, PartTwo - Laboratory Test Methods Part Two of MIL-STD-810G contains the environmental laboratory test methods to be applied using the test tailoring guidelines described in Part One of the document. With the exception of Test Method 528, these methods are not mandatory, but rather the appropriate method is selected and tailored to generate the most relevant test data possible. Each test method in Part Two contains some environmental data and references, and it identifies particular tailoring opportunities. Each test method supports the test engineer by describing preferred laboratory test facilities and methodologies. These environmental management and engineering processes can be of enormous value to generate confidence in the environmental worthiness and overall durability of equipment and material. Still, the user must recognize that there are limitations inherent in laboratory testing that make it imperative to use engineering judgment when extrapolating from laboratory results to results that may be obtained under actual service conditions. In many cases, real-world environmental stresses (singularly or in combination) cannot be duplicated practically or reliably in test laboratories. Therefore, users should not assume that a system or component that passes laboratory tests of this standard also would pass field/fleet verification trials. [15] Specific examples of Test Methods called out in MIL-STD-810G are listed below: Test Method 500.5 Low Pressure (Altitude) Test Method 501.5 High Temperature Test Method 502.5 Low Temperature Test Method 503.5 Temperature Shock Test Method 504.1 Contamination by Fluids Test Method 505.5 Solar Radiation (Sunshine) Test Method 506.5 Rain Test Method 507.5 Humidity Test Method 508.6 Fungus Test Method 509.5 Salt Fog Test Method 510.5 Sand and Dust Test Method 511.5 Explosive Atmosphere Test Method 512.5 Immersion Test Method 513.6 Acceleration Test Method 514.6 Vibration Test Method 515.6 Acoustic Noise Test Method 516.6 Shock Test Method 517.1 Pyroshock Test Method 518.1 Acidic Atmosphere Test Method 519.6 Gunfire Shock Test Method 520.3 Temperature, Humidity, Vibration, and Altitude Test Method 521.3 Icing/Freezing Rain Test Method 522.1 Ballistic Shock Test Method 523.3 Vibro-Acoustic/Temperature Test Method 524 Freeze / Thaw Test Method 525 Time Waveform Replication Test Method 526 Rail Impact. Test Method 527 Multi-Exciter Test Method 528 Mechanical Vibrations of Shipboard Equipment (Type I Environmental and Type II Internally Excited) Name TWO phones that have all that. Then they say SAMSUNG doesn't innovate.

  • lol samsung galaxy rugby....cabt wait for football....ice hockey.....cricket....laugh out lol....then galaxy bikes and cars :]

  • will this be a global release of the phone?

  • Will this be like those ''hard'' phone? I mean hard to break it.

  • what is the cpu?

  • samsung is just creates quantity....not quality...and apple creats 1 phone in year but it waste to much time to create products like useless product...iphones time gone...its now nokia lumias time....buy quality not quantity..

  • They release all different models so it attracts different buyers. Different screen sizes, processors, os, etc... Apple sucks because its only their way. syncing everything through itunes...no removable battery or microsd slot

  • why samsung release so many model? why they dont try release one model per year like apple?

  • this phone is the king of resistance :)
