For anyone else struggling with the buggy auto-brightness on this phone, the fix is simple! This is what I shared on my review website about the issue: "I've diagnosed the problem with the auto-brightness, which was not resolved in the long-awaited Marshmallow update. Very little chance, from what I gather, of any bug report making it to anyone useful at Samsung, but I'll explain a little here in the hope it might help anyone else having trouble with the display appearing too dim or even dead upon waking. In short it looks like it's a bug with the "super brightness" that is engaged when the ambient light is very high, typically direct sunlight, which is why the problem only ever manifests on bright sunny days. It seems that if "super brightness" is required immediately upon waking (i.e. at the lockscreen) the basic brightness is never set from zero, and the screen appears very dark or even non-functional. The work-around is very simple, though. If the screen does not wake and the ambient light is bright, suggesting this might be the cause of the issue, immediately place your finger over the ambient light sensor (next to the earpiece speaker) and a couple of seconds later the display should activate, and you can carry on as usual. Hope this advice saves some frustration or wasted trips to the repair shop."

This is my 3rd year with S5 mini locked to Telstra Australia. After Android 6 update I had to update all apps as well to prevent system restarting. Now everything ok. Still using original battery. Not planning to upgrade to a new phone until this one slows.

My S5Mini, is not receiving 4g in France anymore since 2017-1july (with SFR Red product). The operators change something on frequencies as, since july , it's impossible on my phone to get 4g anymore (only 2g is supported). I guess they changed some support or some frequency and I can not anymore get the frequency wich I used before without problems. This problem arrived suddenly, without that I change something on my phone. Not fair from the operators to make these change secretly, thinking that people will have the idea that phone is broken!!! Obliged to change phone.

Over the past couple of years of reasonably heavy use i've found my S5 Mini to be an excellent phone, (G800F - 5.1.1). Frequently making calls in average reception areas where other phones fail. Dropped a few times without drama, (basic plastic cover and good quality screen protector). A couple of dunks in water without issue. Very very reliable. As i write, up time of 2,021 hours, ie. about three months without reboot! I suggest a rare achievement for modern hard working small sophisticated CPU centric domestic level device. Qudos to you Samsung. Keep up the good work.

Yes, it was Marshmallow, and it's working well. The "Doze" deep sleep function is very effective at extending battery life. No clever tricks required to get it working happily. Had hoped the buggy auto-brightness might be fixed but no such luck, but small point really.

Some of you asked earlier if this phone works with 128 GB micro sd card. I just received one (Toshiba) and I can confirm that it works without problems, it sees 116GB thats the same as card reader, don't know why Samsung says everywhere in specifications that max. is 64GB. I have a G800F for hungarian market with Lollipop, not updating to MM yet cause I heard that some people having problems with GPS signal after update

After updating to marshmallow please do not install any apps. just factory reset the phone and there wont be battery drain problem. RESTARTING THE PHONE AFTER MARSHMALLOW UPDATE WILL NOT HELP. AFTER UPDATING TO MARSHMALLOW FACTORY RESET THE PHONE AND THE BATTERY WILL LAST LONG. Also, turn off auto sync option and do not register or login to samsung account, and use nano launcher to save from battery drain. I have disabled auto sync option and changed the screen brightness to auto. Havent installed any games or additional apps, except for whatsapp. Logging into samsung account and using samsung apps will drain the battery faster. Hope this helps.

I bought a brand-new G800Y model Dec/16 in Switzerland, and it was delivered with Lollipop. I started to use it the first time later in Brazil, and there it showed to be SIM-locked; the seller informed that was Samsung's problem and refused to fix it. So I had to root it, and with a new official Lollipop firmware download everything worked then fine. I'm continuing to use it now without any problems in Brazil (including LTE), and in Feb/17 it updated itself automatically with Marshmallow 6.0.1 - even after all that wandering...

Galaxy S5 mini owners have had to wait for a very long time to get Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The last major update released for this handset was back in 2015 when it was bumped up to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. We first heard about a possible Marshmallow update for this handset about four months ago when it was reported that the Galaxy S5 mini duos (SM-G800H) had received Android 6.0.1 over-the-air in Russia. The Galaxy S5 mini (SM-G800F) is now indeed receiving said update in Europe. Firmware version G800FXXU1CQA1 is now being rolled out for the Galaxy S5 mini in Europe for both the branded and unbranded versions of this handset. Not only does it bump up the device to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow but it also includes the January 2017 security patch. Once the update is installed, users will find that the handset has an improved user interface, enhanced notifications experience as well as a handful of new features. This is the last major platform update for the Galaxy S5 mini since it won’t be making the jump to Android 7.0 Nougat which is currently the latest iteration of Android and has only been released by Samsung for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge so far. Galaxy S5 mini users in Europe will now start receiving the OTA update notification on their handsets. Still waiting for an official Marshmallow firmware for Europe. Still only available for pointless countries like UAE and Morocco. Come on Samsung, hurry up and make this available in Europe already. The Marshmallow manuals have been on the European websites for months now and still no sign of it. Maybe time to ditch the S5 Mini and go for a Galaxy A3 (2017) instead.

I didn't read the whole post. But I remember feeling the same way with the battery life. But then I realized it has a removable battery. As well as the new portable batteries on sale now. With those alone fixed my battery life problem. Buy a spare for $10 and have it fully charged. Also have a portable charger ready. I don't worry about battery life anymore as its very difficult to use both batteries in a single day.

Hi all, This might be too late to write opinions on this phone. But i purchased this phone very recently and have seen lot of people complaining about battery. So, thought of sharing some opinion here. first there are couple attractive things on this phone, The splendid camera and the phone size and nothing else. I downgraded my mobile experience from Moto g4 to this phone only because of the size. No time to regret, I have already made the mistake. After using Moto phones and experiencing their battery life, all the other mobile batteries performance looks useless. I apologize Samsung fans here, but this battery is not worth for a giant like samsung. after there was a firmware update on my phone, the battery was draining tremendously. I was so frustrated that i wanted to degrade the firmware (which is not possible without moding). And the biiiiiiiiiiig mistake i did was login to samsung account and allow the samsung apps kill my battery. Not sure if Touchwiz is the culprit here, but i was very annoyed with this mobile. Cause i put more money than what i actually thought. Later i did a factory reset again and this time i didnt do the mistake of logging into samsung account, As far as possible, i have disabled all samsung apps. And i have installed Nano launcher and not using touchwiz. I dont understand the purpose of this phone... to save battery we need to turn off wifi and data. All i now do is turn off sync in the background, putting the phone in battery save mode. and turn of wifi and switch it on only once an hour to check any messages. As i have disabled the sync i will need to check the mails manually. This is like going back to 1980's after experiencing 20th century. I only have a feeling, i have wasted my money purchasing this. I didnt expect any miracles but a phone with good usage and not needing to sit near the charging port. I dont intend to promote moto brand here, but i have used Moto G, Moto g4, moto e3, moto g turbo edition, all these phones were awesome. I never install games on my mobile and strictly use it for official purpose. and the speaker is a joke, all the latest phones are coming up with a speaker near charging port or near the mic, and this phone has a speaker on the back and we lose all the important calls as the phone sticks to the base and cant hear the incoming ringtones. I dont need a phone to look stylish but need a better battery performance and this has literally failed on the expectations part. The only good thing is it fits the pocket unlike the huge moto phones. and if you want to avoid chinese company phones, then this is the only option. Samsung, please hear the customers problems, you could have done better than this at such price range. Well to let you know, after disabling as many apps as possible and after removing sync option and after disabling wifi and data (thank god this doesnt support 4g or it would have been still worse) and after installing only majic jack and whatsapp battery looks little better (i mentioned after switching off wifi :) ). Now i have to deal with this till it damages itself or i damage it. samsung fans am sorry once again.

This phone doesnt support 4G. Settings -> SIM card manager ->SIM 1->Network mode ->select the option. Generally i select GSM only to save the precious battery life. if you dont want all this torture, try downloading this app on this link. This is a useful article i found. But again not sure, how it would support if our mobile doesnt support 4G. I found this link online and nowhere concerned or related to how the app works :)

After Marshmallow update battery is a joke for me... using it for a minute and 2% gone... I thought it is just some battery sensing fail, so I didn't care, because I switch off wifi, bluetooth etc. when I don't use them, but battery loses so much over time. With Lollipop I could survive (I'm not a hardcore phone user...) without any power saving settings for 3 days and still had ~20% battery, but now I lose 50% per day. Screen consumed 33% battery with brightness set on ~40%, wich is worse than before, so samsung has work to do. The only difference between the settings compared to 5.1.1 is that I can't disable every unwanted OS processes in gatesjunior debloater, because the new android security blocks the software doing that, so I have to live with the 120+ unwanted crap running all the time. I will revert back to 5.1.1 when my patience is over...

Wakelock issue or battery do this......... wiping the cache clears old, unused and unwanted background data that's not being used - don't worry, as long as you wipe the cache only, you won't lose any data. To do this, you have to switch off your phone and enter recovery mode, by pressing up (or down) on your volume rocker and the power button simultaneously. We suggest looking online on how to enter recovery options for your particular phone, as it depends from different phone manufacturers. Once you've entered the recovery look for the option to clear your system cache (again, not factory reset) - and then reboot your phone. Hopefully, this will solve your wakelock issues.

I got several issues with my s5mini, last one was GPS which started to loose signal, and that was the reason why I sell it, the other one was suddenly unexpected lags in some situations, usually when I need phone at most. But I newer had problems with battery, it usually ended a day with 30% or so. For comparison, now I have sony Z3C which has much bigger battery, and this phone usually end a day with 40% of same usage, so quite good result for s5mini with much smaller battery. But this was my case.

I managed to get a full refund and now got an HTC one mini 2 -- outstanding (then again ANY phone would be outstanding compared to S5 mini). If the S5 was fully charged, while off and left off after an hour the phone would be warm and down to around 80%, when on but not in use it drained at the same speed and got quite hot. I made a 15 minute phone call the phone got so hot that I had to hang up and pull the battery out for fear it would explode......remember the service center said the phone was fine!

Love my Mini! Love Samsung! (Not one single Samsung share in my portfolio.) The Mini is older and has a vastly inferior camera to the A5 (at least on specs). Mini has slightly more CPU but slightly less RAM. And comparable batts BUT: I prefer removable battery. I can use and abuse (games,er...,games) my batt and swop it out when it gets short on life. Also,(slightly) smaller Mini fits perfectly in my hand. Overall,however,I would go with the more recent phone though. Especially if you use for two years,then swop on contract. IF you buy for the long-run (I.E.: Not paying Soo much more over time for the handset on contract),get removable batt phones. Hope this helps!

Hey Mulyawaka. I have the LTE version of the phone, and when I removed the battery this morning to check its model number, it was the BBE variety. However, I see Amazon.co.uk sells the CBE and BBE versions. And Cameratek (in RSA) sells the BBU version... So, I am also a bit confused... However, on a S5 Mini LTE version in RSA, mine shipped with the BBE variety. I am sure you will be fine with the BBE. (I think the BBE, CBE and BBU are different regions's model batteries.) Decent enough phone. All phones should, of course, have easily changeable batteries and be waterproof as this is (and the flap-less design for micro-USB, too). So. All pluses. 1.5 gb memory is not impressive and generally speaking it's not too fast. Size is good, though and in use it works quite well. One drawback is that lint from pockets will get stuck in the microphone hole. Cleaning is not too big a hazzle (doable with a needle), but that doesn't help if you are in the middle of nowhere. It hangs once a week on average which is criticizeable (hell, this is 2015/2016), but not unusual for smart phones (which says something, I guess)

Android 5.1.1 is currently rolling out for the phone, you should get it in the next few weeks or sooner. Look up the firmware rollout on sammobile´s firmware section so you can see which countries already got it and if yours is to get it soon.

Touchwiz is what Samsung calls their UI (User Interface). Android phones usually share a common design theme, but phone manufacturers often add their own stuff on top of it. Motorola has MotoBlur I think, LG has Optimus, HTC has Sense, Sony's is just called Xperia which is confusing, and the OnePlus phones have OxygenOS, whereas Google's phones, because their parent company also makes Android, all have the stock Android UI without any custom tweaks and frills. Give it a Google under the image search filter to see the differences, else check out a video on Youtube! Switching brands can sometimes be confusing because of these UI differences. P.S. The only thing I can think of to note about the Touchwiz UI is that it supports screen-splitting; opening more than one app at the same time and splitting the screen real estate. Phone specs are very good, but performance is poor. I am using S5 mini more that a year and it already has been at service 4 times - on 4th attempt to fix it service did not took it just said that I should go to store and ask money back :) Main bugs are: android stops to work restarts 10 - 20 times in row can not make call because it says no coverage, meantime coverage is full can not use internet as it says no wifi or no coverage, meantime there is 4g coverage and wifi connected. and also true about navigation - its not precise Same problems had 2 of my colleagues. I also changed sim but no results, so my opinion is to avoid Samsung mini models.

First of all, Samsung health apps are pointless. It counts my steps even when I sit. Besicaly I unistalled almost all Samsung apps. Phones keeps freezing sInce was bought making me oversleep for work or unable to answer important night phone calls. The most frustrating thing are updates! It's November 2015 and this phone is still on Android KitKat!!! They've been announcing Lollipop update sice September 2014... They still tell people that Lollipop update is coming soon but what's the point if lots of phones have got Marshmallow already?! Samsung let me down a lot, even my Smart TV lost quite a lot of "smart" functions within due to outsource contracts agreements within last 1.5 years. So if you're thinking about having great phone up to date, don't think about Samsung!

hi, i'm from Iran. after using this amazing device for 6 months and occasionally using it under water in my swimming pool, one day its vibrator broke, so i went to the guarantee and got it fixed, and asked them if it's still water proof or not, and they said YES IT IS. after a week, i went to my swimming pool again, and ..... its touch keys didn't work and the screen started to flicker. then the whole display didn't work at all. i went to the guarantee again and they said it will cost you about 1100000RLS (330 USD) and said your guarantee does not cover it, because of water damage. (brand new galaxy s5 mini will cost around 290 USD in Iran) i started talking to them about their mistake and no one accepted, and they blamed it all on me. so i dumped my broken S5 mini in the trash and i'll never buy another Samsung again just because of its damn guarantee in IRAN !!! Samsung must reconsider and train well its Personnel and Repairmen in its branches, such as IRAN. shame on them.

So hopefully this week we will hear some official news about the release. Can't wait! What's taking so long. Hopefully the device has good dimensions. 138mm tall and 65 or 66mm wide. I hope it's not too wide, cause the iPhone is only 67 mm wide and feels like it's much wider, that makes it harder to use with one hand. Hopefully the S6 mini is nice and compact for one handed use. Cause the iPhone 6 is just too wide and slippery.

Did you, before you lock your screen, get your phone off from automatic brightness? If so, it could be the brightness bug. I had the same problem. Try connecting it to your pc and reinstall the software. It should work. You also can try sitting in a dark room, with a strong flashlight shining at the screen. Sometimes you can still see the buttons. Use your pincode, after that you can set your brightness back to normal.

This means that phone goes to sleep mode and refuse to wake up while 3g/4g data is on. It doesn't happen when data is off. This is a known Android bug in some phones.

I have been using this phone for a week now. My first impressions? Phone design is feels like something between mid and luxury. Not as handy as I thought it will be, but I guess I still haven't get used to little bigger screen (my previous phone was Galaxy W). Screen is okey. Performance could be better, when connected all social profiles and turn on synchronizing, I was suprised that I was left with only 300 mb of RAM. Primary camera is noisy. For the first moment I even felt that secondary camera took better photos. Batttery life? Actually, I'm satisfied with it. It squeezed out in two human days (tried all apps, used fb,twitter,wapp and I even fall asleep while watching vines). So it beat me. Everything else works fine. Overall, I am satisfied.

I have this phone for a month now and I'm quite satisfied with it. It has descent performance and battery life is good. Up to 2 days, and I browse a lot, screen is light on up to 6 hours (surfing) between charging, for me this is descent result. Before I had LG G2 which was nice phone but too big and ergonomy suffered because I make often a calls. I sell it and bought this s5 mini and I didn't regret since it is smaller and more ergonomic.

People keep complaining of poor battery saying it barely lasts 12 hours. I would like to take this chance to point out that if ur using ur phone all day for social networking, games, browsing and music, the battery isnt gonna last very long at all. Even top flagship models cant get 12 hours of continuous screentime. These are thew laws of whats currently physically possible. Stop whining, put the phone down and go play outside in the real world.

Customers in the company i am working loves this phone , if you prefer to be a 4G LTE(Long Term Evolution) phone user , its a lot better to use this phone rather that to get the iPhone's, Android phone are much more easier and comfortable to use. I just got my s5 mini for a week now. Can I just say I love it and got what I expected from a phone. The battery seems to be draining for a day so that is okay for me. I already tested the 4G in my country which by the way is Philippines. 4G is working for smart and globe for this unit. I just don't like where I cannot seem to import my favorites in the android browser. However we have the chrome as a substitute. I think I have big apps installed on s5 mini and internal memory is still coping which I love than my old phone. RAM is not dragging and I love to watch movies on this phone. I could rav forever but in short, I happy with it.

Turn off things like wifi, location gps and bluetooth when not using them as they always train power and apps always using the gps. Or root it so can install an app to put other apps to sleep which always use cpu

I bought this device in most part to connect it with my tab 8.4 (WiFi direct apps) . I have the gold version ,which is close to some very capable phones in its price range.I am happy with the design and flap-cover..but very unhappy with regular sluggish performance. Almost once a week it freezes ..and it takes couple of minutes to un-freeze. For eg.Samsung Touch-whiz stops responding or some other apps.I have the latest KitKat ..but still disappointing

I have found the battery life to be terrible. From fully charged, sat on my desk doing nothing it lost 10% in 1 hour. It wasn't even much better in "super battery saving" mode or whatever it's called. I thought my iPhone was bad but this is taking the mick!

Hi i have been using the single SIM version(4G) for 2 days. This is what I actually feel about this phone. First thing is that the battery life of this phone is excellent. It is the best battery life that i found from samsung phones i have used so far. The colours are very good on the display. The phone is pretty light. When typing a text message, the vibration alert cannot be activated to the keyboard. Only the key press sound can be activated. The volume of the speaker is loud enough but the back panel (back cover) vibrates when the volume is maximised. If we tilt the phone to some angle in locked screen mode, the off screen sometimes does not look like clear black. When we look at the display directly then it looks clear black. When we operate the phone or when we are viewing pictures or videos the viewing angles are very good. The screen does not fade. The camera is good enough but it is not as good as the display of normal S5. Overall I am quite satisfied with this phone. I would like to recommend this phone to anyone.

I don't own a s5 mini but based on it's specs the battery could last more than a day with medium usage. I have this phone Kyocera digno kyl22 which is from Japan that has really good processor it has quadcore 2.2 GHz,2 gigabytes of ram,adreno 330 gpu, and lithium ion 2600 of battery sounds like xperia z2 and lg g2 right but then as expected it couldn't even last a day while playing high end games on it. Simply if you just wanted a phone that could last more than a day with a flagship class that could run all of those applications in the google playstore that this is one of the perfect smarthphones out there. Why not try nokia 3310? The battery of that phone is amazing lol.

Well in my opinion quad core clocked at 1.5ghz coupled with 1.5gb of ram is enough to run most of the high end games around the playstore. Did you ever wonder why those high end flagships do not last even a single day with heavy,intense or whatsoever usage it's because they use the most powerful processors that would need allot of power and guess what it generates too much heat that you could fry an egg on your phone So be contented with those specs cause as I've said it could run all the apps in the playstore buttery smoothly :).

xperia z1 and galaxy s5 mini both are good phones. Both are excellent. Z1 has 20mp camera whereas s5 mini has 8mp camera. Z1 has non-removable battery but s5 mini has a removable battery. Specs wise z1 has much features compared to s5 mini. But S5 mini also a great phone.

In design, S5 mini is much nicer than S4. Performance wise i think both are same. If you are much interested in photography, i think S4 is for you because it has i think 13 Mp main camera.

S4 is an old model but S5 mini is new. Specs wise s4 is better than s5 mini. There are so many fake versions of S4 everywhere. So be careful to buy only original. In s5 mini also there are such models. When buying samsung phones make sure to buy only international versions. There are s5 mini Vietnam versions for very low prices. But i dont know the quality of them. So buy only original.

I've experienced a few wierd software problems. The first one was I used the flashlight app and it did not shut off, I tried the active app killer and it was not showing, I had to remove the battery and restart. Second thing, the home screen moved from the second "bullet" to the first one. So now when I press the "home" button it brings me the first screen which has no apps and no phone, message, contact, internet or app buttons. Third, I pick up my to make a call and its at the black screen with SAMSUNG logo, like when you are powering up. I could not do anything from here, could not even power it down, once again I had to remove the battery and power up. Then there was the time it just started vibrating for no reason, had to remove battery and restart. Anybody else experiencing any weird stuff like this?

Beware! Tomorrow I am going to hand in the 3rd S5 Mini for the same problem. Battery does not last 12 hrs. I followed the proper process in preparing all 3 phones. Change for 8 hrs before use. Set on Power Save mode. No luck. I remove the phone from charge at 8 am and the battery is on 15% by 16:00. The phone was barely used during that time! Very frustrating and extremely disappointing.

You REALLY should go for the G2. Despite some cool sensors the S5 Mini offers nothing more than a card slot, over the G2. Amoled is cool, but remember that S5Mini has an HD 4,5 screen while the G2 has whoping 5,2 Full HD Ips-LCD (colors not oversaturated, much more natural than Amoled). The G2 still Flagship Quality, losing in benchmarks for the S5 9600 for only a hair, while the S5 Mini is a midranger. Besides the processor - being quad core - and RAM (which isnt much better) the Samsung S5 mini is virtually the same as Sony SP. Only thing is that the SP is 1/2 the price and last years model with slightly better battery performance. Its starting to look like Sony is leading the way with being the benchmark of phones (esp with the skin apps on android)

As far as i know its the import value only. Then there is various type of taxes - import tax, custom duties. In addition to that, there are additional taxes charged by respective states.. This is a good phone, I have tested it myself and I see no problems with the processing speed, the camera quality is good enough for what i need, there are really interested apps such as the tv remote (i love this) and its very user friendly. water resistant too. I bought mine new for £230 and sold my iPhone 5 for £300. I much prefer the S5 mini in comparison to the Iphone. I have less issues with using this phone it just does what i need it to when i want it to!

My friend bought S5 mini and I compared it to my S4 mini. I must say my S4 mini i9195 (black edition) looks much better. At least to me. It also runs Real racing 3 better. For some unknown reason that game doesn't run as smooth on S5 mini. Also S5 mini uses much more RAM. U close all apps - my RAM in use drops down to 500mb and his on 970mb... Even freezing some apps didn't help. But the UI is smooth, browsing is good. I think since it is a new phone the software for the MALI 400MP4 GPU is not yet optimized. What would you need more than 8Mpx for except maybe for digital zooming? Features such as quality of the optics and image processing, exposure control and metering, focus control, dynamic range and low light performance are more important. I am not saying the phone excels in them all. The phone can not even set the exposure value according to my choise. The spot metering mode is oversimplified. Something could be improved by software updates.

Guys I just purchased this phone. My small review of pros/cons vs review done by GSMArena: - Super AMOLED display colors in very bright sunlight outdoor are "psychodelic". The S5 mini's pump-up contrast feature looks very very bad (much worst than in "big" S5!). However "readability" is perfect. - there is no possibility to enable haptic feedback for back/home/switch apps physical buttons!. This feature is "cutted out" vs normal Galaxy S5. also there is no haptic feedback for samsung keayboard (but you can download & enable it in for example swiftkey)! - no microphone noise cancellation. You can hear background noise. - phone is slow in some games. Also there is noticable delay in some app launching, coming back to home screen, etc. This is especially visible for power users. - battery is not so good (I disagree with gsmarena measurement). One day of moderate usage is max what you can expect.

I saw many comments said Z1C much better than this S5 mini. Agree for its specs. But i used Z1C just for a week and i decided to sell it. Reason? Xperia screen's backlight is worst than other phones i ever used (Z2 & Z1C are the same), smaller screen with higher ppi means not a powerfull phone but a phone that suites for powerfull eyes (if you know what i mean).

The bundled software for the main camera uses typically 1/17 s shutter speed in dim conditions when using auto mode and auto ISO setting even if you use the LED light. For me that is too long time; I get blurry images too often when I shoot handheld. 1/30 s would be better with that optics which has 31 mm focal length equivalent in 35 mm film. I prefer sharper images, even if there was more noise in the image. Unfortunately you can not increase the ISO setting above 800 manually even if auto ISO may use higher settings (at least according to Exif data). Metering tends to overexpose at least in matrix metering mode; you may get blown out highlights in your subject in a sunny day. Furthermore, manual exposure value correction corrects less than expected, and consequently results incorrect Exif data. You can't choose the metering point in spot metering mode. You can't set it to meter in same point that you tap to focus. "Picture stabilation" helps to obtain better tones and less noise in dim conditions, but I am unsure, if it helps in stabilating image. It is somewhat mystical; it may even hide some Exif info concerning the exposure. Even if you tap to focus, focusing returns to the center of the image soon automatically (except when recording videos). If you trigger while it performs automatic focusing, you will likely get an out-of-focus image. I wish there was manual focusing option like in Nokia Camera or in LG G2, for instance. Automatic white balance seems to work pretty well, but I am not convinced by the manual white balance settings. If you want a good cameraphone, I do not recommend buying this phone before Samsung provides proper updates for the camera software. To ensure that it will get those updates, consider sending feedback to Samsung (like I did).

In case you haven't realised, there are apps that exist that allow you to download a radio station and it's songs and play them without using data. Furthermore, the stations can update whenever so you're not left without old songs. And if you're going to complain about using data. I had a 1gb data limit and used internet radio all the time, and still had data left over. Finally, why would Samsung put a FM radio receiver in the phone when there isn't a demand for it and it would do nothing more than increase the cost for manufacturing the phone and buying it?

Don't be daft. An FM Radio makes complete sense. For streaming radio rubbish you need a data plan and good reception and software and you are limited by all three. An FM Radio uses far less power, is free, can be used when roaming and doesn't need anything other than a headset. Wake up and smell the coffee dude, companies like Samsung remove FM Radio modules because they want to sell users their own rubbish streaming software crap. There is absolutely every point in not buying a phone beause it has no FM radio and that's also why the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 have not been selling anywhere near as well as expected in emerging markets when FM radio is important. They haven't even been selling as well in Western markets let alone anywhere else which is why they keep churning out the useless phones with gimmicks like heart rate monitors and fingerprint sensors.

Which century do you live in?! Radios on phones nowadays is obsolete. There are Internet radio services that suffice for a radio and wouldn't drop quality due to the speed of the internet (thanks to LTE and HSDPA), unlike FM radios. There's no point in not buying a phone because of its lack of FM radio.

Hi does anyone know is the SAR EU Rating at .97 correct? It seems unusually high for a Samsung. This would be one of my main concerns about this phone, as the older S4 Mini was only .33 and the S4 itself was just .28. Other than that i like it apart from the price as i can get an S4 or an LG G2 for less at the moment.

Yup, I've just checked the released kernel sources for the SM-G800F and SM-G800H models. SM-G800F (European model) Exynos 3470 (quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A7) Mali-400MP4 SM-G800H (US model) Snapdragon 400, MSM8228 (quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A7) Adreno 305 The Snapdragon has native FM radio support, but the US carriers are known for disabling this in hardware.

The international version of the galaxy s2 uses an exynos 4210 (also known as Exynos 4 Dual) chipset with a dual-core 1.2 GHz cortex-A9 CPU, and does not support LTE.

You only need to disassemble the stock roms that's been released on samfirmware to find out what SoC they're using. The European variants are definitely using an Exynos 3, with an Intel LTE modem. Most likely the US variants will be using the Snapdragon, is my guess.

First and foremost, the samsung galaxy s2 has a way different chipset than this s5 mini. The galaxy s2 had a dual-core 1.2 GHz CPU with a cortex-A9 core architecture, while the s5 mini has a quad-core 1.4 GHz CPU with a cortex-A7 core architecture. A cortex-A7 core actually provide same performance as a cortex-A9 core, but with lesser power consumption and better RAM management. Since the s5 mini has a quad-core cortex-A7 CPU, it can beat the hell out of a galaxy s2 and thanks to more RAM, it can even beat a galaxy s3. As far as the chipset is concerned, it has not been officially confirmed by samsung whether its an exynos or a snapdragon 400. Different leaks about this phone recently have indicated either one of the two chipsets. Maybe samsung might even use an exynos chip for the 3G variant and a Snapdragon 400 for the 4G variant, as it has done before in case of the galaxy s4, note 3 and s5.

Samsung makes a mistake but not putting an FM radio, not everybody has unlimited wifi data, plus wifi drains your battery faster. we need an Fm radio for local stations. sometimes u r in the mood for some news or even a sport event sometimes for music and with FM radio u don't need to worry about copying music , copyrights , storage , etc FM radio is very useful, even 4 those with unlimited data sometimes coverage is bad... or missing . fm radio saves u from those problems

Guys if u want to purchase a phone under 25k-30k then this is d correct device or u can say this device is an upgrade over galaxy s3 neo i9300i.... but those who want to purchase samsung galaxy s4 snapdragon version will have to purchase it from outside india like singapore,malaysia,phillipines etc. All these 3 devices have snapdragon 400 chip except that s4 (i9505) lte version has snapdragon 600 chip outside india ... so, s5 mini dual sm-g800h is best for customers who like samsung and lives only in india.... samsung has released kitkat firmware for s5 mini sm-g800h on samsung_updates.com so stop complaining abt these devices as these devices just need aluminium body with good specs which should be stable...

The s4 is a lot better than the s5 mini. Its got a bigger, 1080p screen, more powerful chipset with more RAM, a better rear camera and both the s5 mini as well as the s4 run android 4.4 kitkat. S4 may or may not get an update to the upcoming android L version, but the s5 mini will. So go for s5 mini only if waterproofing and updates are very important to you.

Ok, so the S5 mini manual says it has a notification light (yaaay) but the dumb asses have removed the FM radio. Why Samsung, WHYYYY? Is it too much to ask to include both a notification LED *and* an FM radio? Forget this load of crap, if you want a premium small handset, the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is still the only choice. Another epic fail by Samsung.

The specs are okay exept the chipset. Snapdragon 400 and adreno 305 is old. Must be snapdragon 600 with 320 to make more poweful :) And it should have smart features(eg. Multi window) and fm radio :)

Just checked the official GFXBench website and saw two different models of the S5 mini. To those who may not know, GFXBench is a benchmarking application that tests the GPU of a phone. In the benchmarking results of a phone on the website, some specs are also mentioned, and I saw that there are two variants of the S5 mini with one variant (model no. SM-G800H) having a snapdragon 400 chipset with a quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU and an adreno 305 GPU. Another variant with model no. SM-G800Y has an Exynos 3 Quad chipset with the same 1.4 GHz Cortex-A7 quad-core CPU, but has a quad-core Mali-400 MP4 GPU instead of the adreno 305. Performance of this quad-core Mali-400 GPU is mostly as good as adreno 305 according to the benchmark results that I checked. But the mali-400 does not support OpenGL ES 3.0 standard as opposed to the adreno 305 that does.

Exynos processor runs games at faster frame rates than snapdragon processor. the GPU in the galaxy s5 mini is Mali-450 and not Mali-400.

Let's compare the CPU/GPU specs with its predecessor, the S4 Mini. S5 Mini CPU: Exynos 3470 (quad-core 1.4 GHz, Cortex-A7) GPU: Mali-400MP (OpenGL 2.0) S4 Mini CPU: Snapdragon 400 (dual-core 1.7 GHz, Krait) GPU: Adreno 305 (OpenGL 3.0) So, despite the S5 Mini having 4 cores, the S4 Mini will still outperform it due to having a Krait architecture. For games, the S5 Mini is no match for the S4 Mini. The Adreno 305 is way more powerful than the Mali-400 - which doesn't even support OpenGL 3. I think Samsung did a big mistake using this CPU/GPU in the S5 Mini. It would have been much better, and a more logical choice if they went for the Snapdragon 410 and Adreno 306.

Well! The Samsung Galaxy S3 holds no chance against this beautiful celly! And even if the CPU is underclocked it's still a quad core compared to the dual core on S4 mini! So it's basically faster! And 1.5 gigs is enough! And quite appropriate as well, the galaxy s5 having only 2 gigs! Looks like the S6 mini will challenge the S4 in times to come!
