Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 - User Reviews

  • Yes, absolutely. This update is fantastic. Love the smoothness of One UI. Tried manual update: Glad to see Samsung is updating their old 2017 devices. Thanks to the OEM!

  • After upgrading phone to Pie it is more smoother. And I like OneUI options to customize appearance without downloading other Launchers. Not sure about battery life, need to test this.

  • My phone is doing fine with Pie update....no shorter batterylife !

  • Do NOT accept the pie update for this phone. It more than halved my battery life. If I can't find a way to downgrade, the phone is completely useless. (This post took 5% of my battery to enter)

  • Wow, this phone will get Android Pie (9)

  • This June, xcover 4s is being released

  • It's been just over two years now since the Xcover 4 has been released. Any news regarding a replacement (Xcover 5 or a new Active)?

  • One UI is coming to this phone.

  • For the price you got lot of phone with plenty of features and even survive rain and flooding. Have used it since May 17 and are very pleased in combination with my outdoor life. Only two minor things is the camera is nothing brag about, and since summer 2018 the Gallery and editor have lost a lot of feature such simple flip of image. Also the audio is not a winner, but it works. Additional headset helps.

  • Can this phone be used without a sim card??

  • No you don't. If it was dependent on a card, then on a SIM card. Maybe you have to unlock your SIM card?

  • Maybe clean your light sensor? It's located at the top on the right side of the ear speaker.

  • Do I need to to an sd card in this phone? it's the first time I am using a Samsung. My sim doesn't seem to be working so wondering if I need to have an sd card also. TIA

  • i cannot get my voice messages, it tells me to ring 121 and then tells me its an incorrect number...what should i diall

  • Just got it couple days ago, it just a "good" phone with ip68 Daily used for works. Never thought 2gb ram can handle many apps with smooth like this, maybe the 8.1 is doing great with this phone

  • Automatic answer without touching? Possible? Thanks, if anybody knows.

  • Where is my Xcover 5?!

  • The Xcover4 does have fm radio

  • I bought it few days ago, already updated with Oreo. Runs 3 days with battery saver on and battery is at 41%. Even in that mode it runs smoothly and I think it may last for one whole week if u use it wisely.

  • Camera is the worst

  • What do you think, will Xcover 5 has a midrange SoC? Or the same old song & Exynos 7870 or Snapdragon 429/439...?

  • i dont recommend the update to oreo,,,batery drain faster .....on nougat my baterry work minimal 2 days....on oreo just 1,5 days maximum...

  • I have Xcover 4 with Orio 8.1. When I make a call, the screen turns off and it doesn't come back on until the phone call is over. I push the power button and the screen would momentarily turn on but it goes back to black in a split second. Anybody have a fix for this?

  • hey put baterry out of the phone and then back in...

  • On oreo wifi doesn't work, same for deep sleep, so battery is for 15 hours laying on desk and doing nothing.

  • reality

  • hey...my xcover4 stay on baterry two days(on nouget)...Do you see some changes when you update to oreo?tnx

  • Nice

  • After an Android 8.1 upgrade phone works faster with less lags.

  • In what countries?

  • The Xcover 4 gets Oreo 8.1 in many countries now.

  • I am sure you are right. But I shall NOT buy a phone named POPTEL.

  • At the moment, this device has a competitor, Poptel P10, who is called the "killer Samsung Galaxy Xcover." Maybe it sounds pathetic, but it's true. You begin to realize this when you see its characteristics (protection IP68, NFC and powerful equipment) and the price (in addition it will be sold at a discount of 27%).

  • My screen is broken. :( Gorilla Glass 6 next time?

  • Now for 180 euro waterproof phone, whit better screen and GPU should be perfect maybe, who can survive long.

  • Dear Samsung! Take a better, midrange SoC next time because I like to use my mobile with a glad way! Exynos 5 Hexa 7872 is the minimum -and with it I took compromise: with the Mali-G71 MP1 there is no PUBG Mobile, I think.

  • I had the phone for 6 months so my impressions: + good response, no hungs, GPS is precise, nice pictures, good sound - camera constantly lose focus, upgraded but issue still persist, recently noticed that plastic between volume and power on button is cracked even phone is with silicone case - bad material, battery can't last for 2 days with normal use, waterproof- I don't dare to put it under water as my previous Xcover 3 got water inside so I am afraid with this also, in addition there are no water protectors on usb, speakerphones slots. Conclusion: Nice phone BUT would NOT recommend it to people which have touch jobs

  • check out samsung galaxy s6 active, you can order one from singapur for really low price and its far better phone with very similiar price

  • I live in a very marginal area for reception - out of 3 'phones, all on 4G, this Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 is the ONLY one that has allowed me 100% contact - 100% of the time. As for its Spec. - its fine. Its a 'phone & it works fine. The camera bit is just that, I have a device called a camera for pictures. Took a few days to understand the user formating of menus. Now with ONLY the apps I want and the rest disabled (but still available) battery is lasting a minimum of 75hrs. I bought it as a 'phone - surprise surprise thats exactly what it is , a 'phone. Bang for buck its ahead of what ever may be in second place. Stop all your whining & get on with life !

  • FLIR thermal imaging to the next Xcover, pls! It would be necessary to enrich Xcover 5 with some new feature.

  • I'm thinking about getting this phone is the camera quality good? I like to take photos that's why I'm asking.

  • Hay i bought my phone on Saturday, and i really love this one. It's not that big or too small, And it has all the features that i love and need. Especially how you can also make calls over your WIFI internet when needed, besides that its fast enough to multitask and surf the web all at once. And at a great little price to. So i give this phone the big [ TWO THUMBS UP ]

  • It is too big for me. I hope, the next Xcover will be under 145mm and 150g! What concerns the display, 5" is more than what is ideal.

  • The plastic body is pretty tough and has a nice feel to it. I have dropped it several times from at least 1m on the ceramic tiles in my home. It survived without a scratch, so I'd guess that it's all about luck with the dropping and screen cracking. A big plus for the water resistance, as I experience heavy rain every now and then in my country. Besides that, it has an overkill battery life. I once managed 3 days of normal use on a single charge, and it even had some percentage left. I don't see any flaws, except the camera could be better, though it's average and makes nice photos. My Xcover 4 is imported from Poland, maybe that's the reason why I don't experience any problems?

  • I totally agree, screen seems to have this auto cracking. Mine is cracking with any drop even on the carpet. I came on to check if i was the only one and then i see this comment. It's a joke! Nothing tough about it tbh

  • I bought my x cover 4 thinking it was the new version of my activ 5 but wow was i wrong. This phone is a pos, i spend most of my time doing battery breaks because the screen wont pick up my touch. The flash light turns itself on some how and then i need to go in and unlock it just to turn it back off and whenever i try to take a pic you need to be completely still for like ten seconds before it will even snap the pic which works great for catching someone in the moment....not. The worst part is this is my second one i 2 months because i figured there was something wrong with the first one. Im not impressed with samsung at all and this phone could make me an iphone customer from here on out. Thanks for making such a shit phone samsung.

  • Will Xcover 5 be announced next month? :S

  • Xcover 4 made in Poland

  • where is the Xcover 4 made? Vietnam? BTW, my phone has been going well, haven't really dropped it or got it wet yet. Camera not as good as the Sony Xperias that I'm use to, from Z to Z5

  • xcover 4 is Way stronger then any iphone. i own an xcover 4. Iphones you dont need to drop to crack them; they'll crack when you look at them. good luck

  • Wow.how this phone is even promoted as a durable.rugged.military phone is a joke..hold on..im still laughing at myself for being so.so.so. dumb.not sure how falling off a coffee table to the floor could chip the tough exterior and split my gorilla glass..im sure when they did their military testing, they dropped it onto a pile of goose feathers..lies.lies.lies..Dont take the chance.unless you carry it in a pillow.Shame on Samsung..Im a sucker for believing.....hope im the last..Iphone here i come..

  • Terrible microphone, speaker and in-call sound quality. This is a phone... Have Samsung forgotten what a phone is for?

  • Absolute waste of money. I don't recommend it to anyone. It works worse than my 5-year-old Sony Xperia J (I bought Xcover 4 5 days ago)...

  • It's not prone to cracking at all, and it is a budget phone ;-)

  • this is about a botched phone you probably droppped or so, its not about the xcover 4 all you say about the screen is not happening at my xcover 4

  • I think the smartphone you are describing is not a samsung one :) samsung smartphones don't have the volume and power buttons on the same side :)

  • Hey Samsung why did you use such cheap material on this phone. You can clearly see that the material beside the volume and power bottom is too weak and prone to cracking. Why didn't you reinforce it? Poor design, quality and craftsmanship.

  • I got helps from Samsung support and it is OK now. Thank you Samsung !

  • any one please advises how to stop samsung xcover4's screen rotates. Thx and happy new year !

  • Most people assume being a Galaxy class phone that this one would be a flagship classed phone. It is not nor was it ever intended to be a high end phone. It is however designed to be a working-in-the-field type phone and was built for rugged use and not as a flagship entertainment device. The bonus is for the price point, it has impressive features one would not expect for a rugged model phone. Though it only has 16 GB internal storage it can take an impressive 256 Gb microSD card. Also even though the screen resolution is 1280x720 the camera can take 1080p photos and videos a definite bonus for this price point. So stop bashing or putting it down for what it doesn't have. Because it's not suppose to be in the same class as a Galaxy S series.

  • Can this phone use fast charser. Can i but a J5 2016 battery in.

  • Are there any rumors on Xcover 5?

  • Well, I can assure you that it is waterproof, as mine took a bath twice and survived it. Regarding the turning off, if it is new, I'd turn it in to the store where you have bought it from, because this just can't be normal. I have this phone for only a month so I wouldn't like to make any false statements, but it did not let me down until now and it seems like it will not do it in the near future either. I really like it, especially because the battery life is just awesome.

  • Phone is supposed to be shock resistant (MIL-STD-810). After about 5 months of use, phone randomly turns off whilst being carried in pocket. Isolated and controlled home experiment shows that a even a very mild kick causes phone to turn off. It's not battery contact, I tried to additionally reinforce battery, phone turns-off even with firmly fixed battery. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Very light and thin back cover and "naked" connectors (USB, headphone jack) do not make me very confident that it's water resistant. Not willing to test it, though.

  • Go to Settings > General management > Language and input > Virtual keyboard > Your standard keyboard (in my case, the Samsung keyboard) > turn off "Predictive text" and/or "Auto check spelling" There are some other useful options that you may consider useful, so take a look at them, too.

  • Is there any fix for the focus on the camera? If I touch the point that I want to be focused, it starts to focus, but once it gets to the best possible focal length, it just kind of goes back to the blurry unfocused image. That mostly happens when I try to focus on a near object, but it sometimes happens when focusing on things that are further away. If you don't know the solution, is there any app that actually enables manual focus (with a slider or similar). It may even be a paid app, as it really isn't a problem to spend 5-10 bucks on a quality app. BTW, I am not experiencing any of the touch issues mentioned below.

  • Does anyone know how to turn off autocorrect. It is coming up with bizarre results.

  • I had the same problem with the same symptoms.. Touch sensitivity issues with the hold touch problem and the multi touch 3 finger not working. The problem is that after a factory reset the holding touch and 3 finger problem disappear temporarily while the sensitivity problem exists always even on recovery mode. I had to send the device 2 times for Samsung to diagnose and replace lcd and digitizer because they could not find any problems with the tests they make. All I had to say was that the device was not working with gloves or pen even with gloves mode on normally like another x cover 4 witch I accidentally found to be working ok. Also sent them the video of the problem with pen. This device is advertised to be fully working with gloves. It is unacceptable not to..

  • Try multitouch test app. Only 2 fingers work.

  • Go to the repair facility and show that it doesn't keep the touch for longer than period of time. Find a random game that requires you to hold the touch. Show that it NEVER works. Also you can make a video with another phone/camera and show that it struggles to detect finger correctly.

  • Did you get your money back?

  • I have tough screen problems too!

  • I have a touch screen sensitivity problem with the xcover 4 and my network, Vodafone, are unable to "verify" there is a problem. Really disappointing when you pay for something and it doesn't do what it is supposed to do. Rip off!

  • A good phone design. Excellent grip. Good battery life. I've owned Xcover1, Xcover2 and now own Xcover3. I wanted to upgrade to Xcover4 but I tried the phone and it does not work correctly. I've read forums and this problem is on all Xcover4's. Then I met a friend who already bought the phone and he has the same problem. It is not possible to play any games on the phone that require you to touch the screen continuously. Touchscreen is not as responsive as it should be (especially with gloves) and it loses the finger if held for few seconds. Samsung does not recognize any problems and denies any defects. Up until the fix it I will not upgrade nor do I recommend this phone due to basic problem with touchscreen responsiveness (very valuable feature on rugged phone). I forgot to mention that Xcover3 has a flash much much brighter. Unfortunately Samsung made Xcover4 flash more color friendly but way less useful as a flashlight. I'd be happy to be informed when the problem is solved. I will get the phone immediately.

  • Why don`t you review Tecno and Infinix devices. Systematic segregation? They are worthy substitutes to all these over priced brands.

  • A very nice phone, compared to my last one it's very good, a nice camera, very adjustable. The battery is great and the screen is responsive. If you're looking for something great but cheap, I think this is the greatest choice.

  • I used them from a week. Excelent battery life - 2 days in heavy usage. 3D games like Fifa and Real racing - no problems. No overheating like Xperias. Camera - not like a flagship but for this price is so so good. And in the night shoots too. I put here a link with pics Xc4 vs Lg G5 vs X style. How many of writhers here talking bad thinks about the phone that not used. So many heaters.

  • Too big for me! I hope, the next Xcover has smaller sizes.

  • Not great. I bought unlocked from Samsung and it has no FM Radio Receiver! Screen is ISP and neither bright nor responsive. I often end up pressing 3 times on a screen to get it to work. 13MPX camera is not able to focus although it does the auto-focal zooming but then it settles at something that is neither sharp, nor contrast. it kinda looks like 0.3MPX quality. It has 16GB, of which I used 4.64GB according to an app. The phone tells me I used 1896MB docs/images/audio/video/apps, it also tells me 186MB free memory left. So from 16GB you won't see 10-14GB at all. IP68 well we all know any company can claim it the actual tests are not done by any thirty-party and frankly if no gorilla glass it needs a solid case to defend it all around. The phone is ridiculously heavy for how little features it has. My only sense of this phone is if this is like nokia 3310 kind of device that is build to last but I doubt it. I did buy this phone because I love to have big lasting battery but practically it's not that great. I use 50-60% charge in one day with little to no use. I also bought this phone because it has low screen resolution hoping it would boost battery but I was looking at 4 days up time. CPU was surprisingly ok, slow but not to a point of freezing. This is my 4th Samsung phone and I am disappointing at this one. I think it should not be $375CAD but $80 for anyone to buy up right.

  • why not dual sim ??!!!!

  • I don't understand people who compare phone of 200 euro with the phone of 800 euro. For this price, I think that this is best posible option. After one month, I cannot find anything which is not perfect. Network signal is much stronger than any of my previous phones, duration of battery is one full day of heavy use....no software bugs, no any problems, more than enough internal memory, solid quality of camera....for this price, excelent choice.

  • no!

  • can put 2 simcard ??

  • in regards to S7 edge comment. I have S7 edge screen - cracked 2 months into my contract. It's $900 device that I will have to pay out out of my pocket. I had S5 Active before S7 and it lasted 3 years until I put it on a shelf but the screen and everything is in perfect condition. Never froze on me and even today able to stay on for 4 days. In regards to Xcover 4 I don't get myself why there is no gorilla glass here. and battery is not rated long either.

  • i cant find dual sim card for this phone , sad

  • samsung are you serious all that protection, all that money and no gorrilla glass

  • I will suggest you to go with the Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge. I have the S7 Edge and I have nothing negative to say about the phone.

  • Clearly, there are a lot of problems with this phone. I'll wait to next year's 2018 G391F model. Hopefully Samsung will have sorted all the problems out. Next year's phone might have these specs: Chipset Exynos 7870 Octa CPU Octa-core 1.6GHz Cortex-A53 GPU Mali-T830MP2 So a faster 1.6GHz CPU and a faster Mali-T830MP2 GPU. Also, I expect it will have 802.11ac Wi-Fi

  • Buy everything except the samsung galaxy series with android 7. Touchscreens are seriously bugged and glitchy.

  • I have bough this mobile phone Samsung Xcover less than one month ago, and I am very disappointed with the mobile phone. I have also de Xcover 3 and the comparing both the Xcover 3 is far better regarding the screen. First reason: The bright or the light of the screen is pulsating, it is not stable. It is very annoying. Second reason: If both phones are set to the maximum bright, X Cover 3 is much lighter than the new Xcover4. Third Reason: The sensitivity of the XCover 4 is also annoying, it loses the touch or the contact even if you are pressing the screen. I will try to return the product and have my money back. I was really interested in this phone since it has 16Gb of memory but now I wonder which phone should I buy.

  • Omg laughed my ass off, sorry about that, does it have powerpoint and excel too? Omg....

  • I have this device for a while and the touchscreen is not as responsive. When i am holding touch for more than 5 seconds it looses the touch. I can't play a game with it. Sensitivity is so bad that i removed the screen protector.

  • For Europe is only single SIM model

  • Just bought this, and I never thought I will be so disappointed of a phone, I had the xcover 2 before. To compare with previous model: basically now I've got a cheap chinese small tablet in a rubber case with a ton of bloatware that you can't disable. While locked I couldn't find a solution to turn on the torch, there is no more camera dedicated button, like half press for focus..DSLR style, not portable phone by any means, is just another huge retarded tablet that you keep in keep in your pocket when you actually should use a back pack,, no more secure back panel with screw, , camera glass is sticking out like a retard..it will get scratched in no time, no more task manager, in order to unlock with pattern ..first you swipe , then you put the pattern, retarded!, samsung themes.. needs acces to files, contacts, sms, calls.. really ? why? change brightness with 1 hand in 1 move.. forget it...oh look I have word preinstalled..maybe is not that bad. open.. "no network conectivity"..really?..now I need network to write a doc? are you kidding me?..not even trying to as if I can install apps o card..I will be surprised if we still have plug and play storage mode with pc., this after 15 mins of interacting, can I just have more memory in xcover 2, this is not evolution..this is pure retardness.

  • i believe its micro, not nano

  • It was your own fault that you didnt look if it is dual-sim or single sim.

  • @wally, it's clearly written: "Single SIM or Dual SIM", which means the phone comes in two versions: single SIM or dual SIM. Yours is obviously single SIM.

  • its only one sim card and one sd card !!!!! , dont dual sim as u claiming ,,!!!??? so bad

  • Yes it does

  • Can he speak the name of the caller

  • My friend have you tried globe's mode? Mine doesn't work

  • I got it and the touch sensivity sucks. Gloves mode doesn't work as all other devices i tried so far. Is this a nougat bug?

  • microsim no indication led, phone has a nice grip feels like rubber, colors screen are ok,ps no earbuds included.

  • is it gorilla glass or plastic , what kind of protection didnt mention ??!!!

  • Does this have a notification LED?

  • Micro or Nano-SIM?

  • PLATFORM OS Android 7.0 (Nougat) Chipset Exynos 7570 Quad CPU Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 GPU Mali-T720 Same as Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime (2016)?

  • I cant find anywhere dual-sim model..... think its only single SIM :(

  • There are no ugly phones lol they are just a piece of electronic

  • Around 250 euros in Europe, two weeks usage already, fair battery life, and removable, fair performance, fair display, nice grip with rubber finishing. Most of all is a good phone for work outdoor.

  • @Wallah: Where did you buy it?

  • Yes, I already have it. Compared to xcover 3 what I also have, this is significant improvement

  • has it been released yet? previous comments say it was supposed to be released in 2016...

  • Really good phone, the 2800mAh battery makes it a good choice for business phones and twin especially with the superior specs compared to the X3. The Design is nice and thickness underscores the durability certifications. It is selling really good now especially at a affordable price, its a must for laborers who dont need the S60 for cost reasons. Excellent work Samsung.

  • not nice design , ugly

  • for use on building sites by Labourers etc it is built for specific purpose so thanks Samsung for catering for us.

  • only one color !!!!

  • expensive.!!!

  • over price , and no protection

  • 299 euros. Thats just silly. Nobody is going to pay that much.

  • why there is no display protection ??!!!

  • MIL-STD -810G is like gorila glass 7

  • Why this phone and most of mid rangers dont have 38 2600 band

  • no gorilla glass .. or any protection ???!!!!!!!

  • This phone has no resistant , gorilla glass or asahi ???????

  • this phone has no resistant but water

  • copy version of xiaomi redmi 4a.. redmi 4a has bigger battery and fast charging technology and otg support, price also lower than samsung. and I know that very well it would not get next Android update. that's the reason why I sold my j3(16) and bought xiaomi redmi 4a. it's a good phone better than samsung not laggy and doesn't hang. rip samsung good bye to you

  • Rare phone by the Samsung having IPS LCD despite Amoled panel. 720 screen IPS is better than Amoled because IPS delivers more details in same size.

  • Better to buy on7 pro than this

  • watever

  • I use now the previous version of that phone Galaxy Xcover 3 it has only 8GB of ram and its quad-core at 1,2 GHz its certainly not a flagship or middle range spec phone. However if someone wants a phone just for simple use not for gaming or high quality photos for instance just surfing the internet or Facebook is just fine plus you don't have to worry about if drops or gets wet .It adressed to a specific kind of users. So I believe for the next version.

  • This and p10 lite are both overpriced phones right now

  • If we compare price and specs theres no other option just to look ahead for a better phones. This one is big fail.

  • Super tough protection for outdated 1.4 Quad core 16gb in the year 2017? Why you wanna do that?

  • No gorilla glass , or any protection ????

  • AGM A8 Dimensions - 159 x 83 x 16 mm - Nice phone Xcover 4 Dimensions -146.2 x 73.3 x 9.7 mm - Nice phone Everybody has a opinion.

  • Samsung Xcover 4 looking good but expensive. after compared it with other rugged smartphones I found AGM A8 is much cheaper in price. bigger memory, huge battery capacity, and fastest processor. why I need to purchase Samsung Xcover 4 ? think and save your money.

  • over price.

  • 16Gb Rom/2Gb Ram only?i guess the xcover 5 will be 32gb rom,3/4 gb ram

  • Man i knew this phone will be ip68 rated, ant the back of the phone looks almost like first galaxy xcover

  • Why are manufactures creating phone in 2017 with only 16GB of internal memory????? My colleges all use heave duty phones. This would be a excellent phone for them but due to only having 16GB of internal memory its out of the question. At least 32GB....... Wake up Samsung!!!!!!

  • Only Samsung? Haha. If you think so you must check these out.

  • george, this is a tough phone, for people working in hard condition not in pubs, samsung is the only big company that produces this type phones

  • There are elementary design errors about this phone. What we have is a cheap phone a with strong protection. Who need this, if it's cheap it can be replaced, nobody cares too much. Also, such a rugged phone may be used by workers, in construction for example, the main concern should have been the usage with a single hand, so it should have had a smaller size (4-4.5 inches), thinner. Those buttons make it harder to use, not easier. You probably still wonder why it is not a market hit.
