  • The sound works just the same as it would if your phone were on loudspeaker. If yoi wanted it louder, you can possibly hook it up to a computer or speakers.

  • i just recently bought it.and using it regularly .i love it and undoubtedly its a great phone.super amoled screen and sound quality is excellent with dnse sound engine and also with dual speakers and its really effect and feel great.no another android hand set even s2 and s3 can not be compare with it in this field.its similar with my old omnia i8910.and call quality and networking is very well and great.you can install lot of apps and can be use it frequently.no stuck screen.only the little things i felt that is in less.1-due to small processor its slow speed compare with the dual core sets.2-android version 2.1(it should be 2.4).3-little bulk 4- projector is average.samsung should be continue it with improved and update version.but should not miss the dnse sound engine and dual speakers.today peoples use the mobiles mainly for fun.they likes to listen the music on mobiles.come on samsung you are the best and come with update galaxy beam 3.but dont like the beam i8530(very poor).peoples get boring with s2,s3 these are all similar nothing new.so go with it for feel some new.good wishes

  • When projecting a presentation sometimes stored images are in different orientatinos. I came across somthing saying the Samsung Galaxy Beam shown at mobile world congress can change the orientation of the projected image by twisting the phone to the left and back while projecting, twisting the phone to the right and back, tiping the phone upward and back and tipping the phone downward and back, clearly a useful feature.   • There are several things bad about this phone. 1. The alarm usually doesn't ring. 2. There's a glitch in the software which causes the phone to reboot automatically. This happens sometimes but can be very irritating. 3. It cannot connect to the Kies software. Out of 100 times, I'd probably only succeeded less than 5 times. 4. The meagre RAM makes it difficult to multi-task. i.e. while playing a game, the screen hangs when there's an incoming call or sms I regretted buying the phone since.

  • The lag in phones are usually due to the poor performance of stock roms(android os given by the company). Try using cusoms roms for your phone. Improves performance tremendously.(voids your warranty though)

  • I bought this equipment because of its features but I was disappointed with its poor performance.Its frequently hangs and is very slow. At times when I key the works for SMS, there is a delay for the characters to appear!Further more responses can be slow when files are activated. Regret buying this phone.

  • the only way is to install third party software or otherwise rooting it. samsung no longer produces parts for this model anymore cause the customer base is too small... if you plan on upgrading properly, i dun think it would work

  • just bought my beam last week from mustafa in singapore and the next day i can see white spots on the projector. sent it to samsung service centre the next day and they replaced something in the phone. after another day of usage the white spots are back and multiplying! i will send the phone back to samsung service centre again argggh! this is a very nice phone if only they fixed the defects before selling the units! and a faster processor is definitely needed.

Samsung to me usually has the absolute best well rounded and top technology, but no matter what awesomeness there is there is always something missing aka like a speaker, or a flash, or the better cam, or the bigger screen, or support for something, or an hdmi port, or something important.

I've been onto the phone suppliers about what version of firmware update their phone is, but they don't seem to understand, all they say is, it runs on android 2.1, well we all know that, right. My question is, if I purchased one of their Beams and it still only had the firmware it was originally released with, could I update it with the H1 or J1 version myself, or is it a job for a techy.   • It is true that there has been several batches of the Beam, only the very first batch had the problem with the stuck screen. Batches since basically late August has been much better. Eg no stuck screen and overall performance increased. Atm I am using the august firmware with H1 and it runs fine. afaik the latest retail batch of Beam has the H1 firmware. There is a slightly newer firmware i think the I1 or J1, although there has not been any significant difference between that and the H1. By all means ask the vendor you are getting the phone from which firmware it is running.

  • well, in a way yes, IF you bought it when it was first released, it was crap, but since then you can get it re-flashed with updated firmware which fixed most of the bugs, apparently. Simon is the one on this forum who seems to be the most informative about it and I'm sure he will post an update explaining the situation with it so far, I hope he will anyway because a lot more people out there would also like to know about it to.

  • There is no latest batch. The product has been discontinued. Perhaps Beam 2 in a couple years time will take it worldwide :p

  • yes got to download kies from any samsung website..make sure phone is unlocked when u connect to pc after launching kies.

  • what have you been smoking jeff, the galxay beam uses a LED bulb (I highly doubt you can just buy these at tescos). The life time of these are are like 10 years with a few hours use everyday :/

  • My mum have got this phone, she complains about poor resolution screen and she had to replace the projector bulb twice already. Good that you can buy them in tescos 2 for £4.

  • For those asking around, only the local Singaporean telco Starhub seems to have it, and they don't list it on their site any more. If I recall correctly, it was priced a tad under 1000 SGD without contract.

  • hi, I just bought one from internet. And i found my timer is a big problem. The cellphone is switching hours automatically without any signs.I used it for more than 2 weeks. The time bug happened more than 5 times. I can't use it for alarm anymore, because of the time bug. It seems my firmware is old, which is DXJF8. Does anyone have a similar problem? Any solutions?

  • Not sure about stock free ram, but my Beam with 7 home pages loaded with apps and widgets can get about 110 max free ram on fresh boot. That goes down to 80s etc and eventually into the 50s where I will usually do a clean boot again.

  • Yes, you can download/buy many games and softwares from Android Market. You can even install apk file (Android package file) to get many more.

Memory too small and slow down when 4-5 application runs. Also can not change Samsung keypad. I installed Mongolian Cyrillic keypad, but can not use.

  • Hi everyone! I just landed myself a brand new set from Starhub Singapore. The wait had been long, but worth the wait. There had been lots of negativity since its official launch in July, a big break in August to fix those nasty problems before re-release to market again, and finally in late September I managed to grab a set from the latest new batch. ;-) From a pro consumer perspective, I think this phone totally rocks! It is one of a rare innovative product that comes once in awhile to fascinate the world. Well, I know I clearly did so by showing everyone I know, and all were surprised by what this gadget can do. And I'm loving it every moment! Anyway, the overall specifications are enough said... It is good to last for quite awhile. I bought this phone for: 1) projector phone, unique feature; 2) Worthy specs so that I don't have to worry it going obsolete in months; 3) Exclusivity with just one operator here selling it and not overwhelmingly marketed like Galaxy S.   • i have i8910. video's and foto's are in very good quality. the sound is greate. no handy has such a full power loudness (without headset) the handy looks very nobel and is very sturdily. the accumulator must be loaded every 4-5 days. maybe the life of my i8910 will ending, when i test the nokia n8 and the i8520....but first, they must be better. after the last comparison, samsung wave, i sold the wave, like many different handys befor.

  • The sound is very good for a smart phone very crisp, better than the HTC HD 2 and iPhone 4 ive used. The projector is satisfactory quality for a small pico. You are able to project about 50inch screen to a wall about 8 metres away and have poor-OK quality image. The fact they managed to fit a projector in a decent size phone is a big achievement, unlike the LG phone with addon pico.

  • I just got Samsung Beam yesterday. The speed is a little bit lag when you run 4-5 applications. The AMOLED screen is vivid, easy to read under direct sunlight. The best part is projector. I can watch my favorite movies on celling. The brightness and color are good (more than I expected). I'm totally satisfied with Samsung Beam!

  • thanks for quoting my post to overclock nick :p id hav to disagree on the iphone 4 part. the beam also beats it in the flashlight, camera and sound engine department. you can use it as an overhead projector too. jus so much fun using the beam! unlike your regular phone. turns head everywhere u go :) and up to personal preference i prefer the much open android OS over the lockdown iOS. I do like to play my emulation of psx,snes,genesis etc

  • Just got this phone late last week and I love this phone. Watching movies on the cealing while in bed is great. Its a bit slow but once you overclock the Beam to 1ghz it is definitely snappier. I was using my wife's iPhone 4 before the Beam. iphone 4 beats the Beam in every category except two thing: Projector and FM Radio.

  • @Arturas - 8MP camera with flash. Surely these stats alone will make it quite a decent camera. Is got a 720mhz stock cpu and 374 ram. These numbers tells the speed it not too good. But after you root it and then overclock it to 900mhz it is pretty good. Speed matching stock N1 and Desire. Which are 1ghz snapdragons with 500mb + ram. @ qwertyqazza - What are you smoking? It is a pico projector not a full power projector that lets you project in daylight. Perhaps in 5 years or so pico projector can be powerful enough... Is basically for use in a dark room with a small audience. Projects up to about 60''+ with good details. @Angry jeffrey - You are spot on here. Doubtful the Beam will get any updates in the form of Froyo anytime soon (if ever). Prolly rather release Beam II than a froyo. @luke - Dun buy from Starhub, it is a rip at 1199 SGD. Just get it at a regular phone shop in SG for about 900ish.

  • Hi there! I have i8910 and phone spec were amazing but as usual no updates from samsung. When it comes to beam: no official release date no info on stock, phone is only released in singapore for some strange marketing reasons, samsung didnt put enough effort to port android to this phone. Dont even think about updates for it in the future (eq froyo) maybe by some rom cooker not samsung thats for sure. This phone will be or it is already abandoned by samsung as they have other projects to finish. It will be the same story like with i8910. Sad but true. I really wanted this phone but im not willing to get it from abroad and pay £400+ (what if something goes wrong with it) I really wish i was wrong but it seems that samsung failed again...i know that they released update to fix the frozen screen but i think that will be the last update for this phone ever.

  • this phone did not appear in south korea first,it was released in singapore for unknown reasons.i live in singapore and this phone is not that bad but its boring,not quite like galaxy s standard which is expected.. and the projection sucks to the max,its not that clear,its only clear in a pitch dark room.in a quite lit room...dont even talk about it,watching a football math is liike watching a grass field with moving ants!

  • Yes. With the H1 firmware it is solved and runs a lot smoother.

  • I v just ordered mine on-line (a website in Singapore) I ve used Chinese projector phones the last year and was very happy with one of them but they all have a lack of softwares and features (No winMo, Android...). I am a fan of Samsung products (especially the MBP200 pico projector, it s been almost 2 years and still an amazing product) whatever once i get the Beam, I ll post my review hoping I will have one with no bad firmware.   • Hi David I was referring to the stock battery, after market battery will be anyone's game hehe. But yeah if all you are interested in is the battery than Beam wouldn't be right for you. But anyway if you opt for the Desire then why not the Galaxy S, I'm sure there will be after market battery for the Galaxy S too. It has a better bigger screen, cpu, gpu (literally 300% better gpu?). Pretty sure if you are into gaming then these factors are pretty crucial :)

  • Hi all, First of all Simon, thanks for responding to our questions especially mine. I have to correct one thing you said, the Beam doesn't have strongest battery. Although it is up there. You can get an extended battery for the HTC Desire 3200 MAH. Somebody used it for I think 8 days without a charge in between. If you google search htc desire mugen 3200 battery, you will see what I am on about. Also HTC Desire provide another extended battery if you google search Seidio Innocell htc desire. Why I mention is because some people who will not get the Beam may opt for the Desire. Also these extended batteries are much better than the one supplied with the phone. I am no longer getting the Beam. I am just no longer interested. I did seriously consider getting the iphone 4 but the price and other issues such as no SD card, the micro SIM (stupid idea), only getting apps from Apple put me off it. I like Android and will the Desire. It is faster than the Beam at 1GHZ processing speed and much better looking. I don't need the projector at all and was only interested due to its beast of a battery. However the extended battery issues are solved with the Desire now. The price on amazon UK is very good too IMO. I don't know if this will be released in Europe (London, UK) where I live. The Desire is readily available too.

  • Hey people, ill try and answer most of the questions: @Tired of Waiting - Unless you are in Korea you are out of luck. Korea has a variation of Beam that is white colored with similar specs. Atm Samsung phone is focus entirely on the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab. Perhaps an eventual international release but by then the hardware in the Beam will be obsolete. And by the looks of thing they will rather develop a successor to Galaxy S/ Tab which is selling more than like 1000x more than the Beam. Eg you must import it from SIngapore! You are in luck however as the newest batch of Beam are free from the stuck screen issues due to the latest firmware. @ ppl buying Beam - By reasoning if you want to get the beam, make sure you are getting it for the Projector, 8MP camera, Camera flash, 1800 mAh battery and the Sound Engine. Basically these are the only factors above the Galaxy S. Otherwise everything else the Galaxy S just do much better. @ vince - if you want the Beam you will need to import it. End of story. Btw I am in NZ and i imported it on the 2nd week :p @ david london - The phone was easily overclocked with no flashing. Basically two apps was used. 1 app for rooting and one app for on the fly overclocking. Can be done in minutes. There's a thread on hardwarezone sg where I posted the instructions. Stable at 900mhz means it is stable to do everything :). I had it reboot, freezing when i was testing the higher mhz with not enough voltage. But that is common for overclocking. The battery is the biggest in the industry at 1800 mAh. Obviously at only 3.7'' and running at stock 720mhz the battery life will be very good in comparison to say Galaxy S running at 1ghz with 4'' screen and a much smaller battery. It will most likely dominate every android phone on the market in terms of battery usage. Even iphone4 I reckon. It can project continuously for 3hours! That light on there is like 9lumens max? That's huge for a phone. I use the projector intensively so i charge everyday. But eg today I was out for 8-9 hours, did some texting, 3g browsing, downloading and had 65% at the end of it. Im based in New Zealand. I ordered through a mobile shop online who are based in Singapore. Delivery was quick. 3-5 working days I recalled. Service was ok. In comparison to the N8. You will be getting the Beam for its superior Battery life, Projector and the Android OS. If you are not getting it for these 3 reasons alone then N8 will be your better choice. Massive mobile gamer as in a true gamer or only those who play phone only games? Because the android system can run easily games from nes,genesis,psx,gameboy,snes, neo geo and etc. How do you feel about ripping out the phone and playing a game of pokemon emerald and street fighter 2 turbo? for PSX games however, atm only the SGS can really run the game smoothly. Due to its superior SGX540 graphics chip. I dun really play phone games, so iphone specific games dun appeal to me at all. I play real console stuff like Street fighters, pokemon, final fantasy, super marioland on my android instead :p

  • I agree with you Vince, I think this Beam is just a prototype for sale in Singapore,just to test the water to see if it takes off and will probably be dumped for a newer version next year, it'll never hit the UK shops not while they are pushing the sale of the Samsung S. Goodbye dream phone, maybe see a better one next year, in the meantime, I'm saving up for the Iphone 4.

I really thought that a UK/EUROPE date would have been announced at the IFA show in Berlin this week. Anyway mine are as follows; In simple terms, how would you overclock the machine? When this has been overclocked, does it worsen the performance of the phone in any aspect (gaming, music, photos, calls etc)? I have heard the battery is excellent. Can you confirm this? All the other smart phones irrespective of brand have poor batteries requiring at least daily charging. The Beam battery really attracts me from what I have read. I am based in London, UK. Which country are you based in and where did you get your phone from? If a foreign company, did you get a quick delievery and good customer services? I am still undecided about what phone to acquire. This still remains my first choice and costs around £400 on a certain website through google search King of Gadgets. The Nokia N8 is my second choice (good battery) but I am tired of Nokia as I have always had them. I still own one. Nokia 5800. HTC have poor batteries hence me avoiding them.   • Hi Guys I am back now with my beam fixed. I overclocked and left it at about 900mhz atm, 1ghz needs too much voltage to stable, perhaps I have a bad cpu. But anyway for some questions recently. Of course the Beam can play 3D Games, it spots a SGX530 graphics chip. Eg Droid X. Pity this chip's performance is only roughly 50% of SGX540 from the SGS. However it is fully capable of running games like Quake 3, I tried Tekken 3 as well but the frames are too horrible lol The exact CPU in the SGB is an TI OMAP3440 under clocked to 720mhz. With some tinkering you can easily OC It to 900mhz. Not sure why we can't easily push it higher even thou the older OMAP3340 can be taken to 1.2ghz with little effort.

  • I just don't understand this.... It was supposed to be released worldwide. To my understanding although not official, it is not being released in the USA. That is not a problem to me as I live in the UK. Does anybody know if it will be released in Europe? Whether yes or no, please provide evidence like a link. For the perspective North American buyers, I do feel for you if it is not released in your country. If it is not released in Europe - specifically the UK, then I will have to stick with Nokia and go for the Nokia N8. I really don't want to but that is another option and the specs and battery on that are quite good. The iphone 4G is a looker but lack of a micro SD slot, signal issues, a poor battery and high price put me off it. I buy my phones SIM free without a contract.

  • This one of a superb device i had to compare with my other devices that (android, winphone, symbian, bb-os). The only thing you should remember is.. turn off your wifi before taking any photos. Try to compare taking a picture with and without wifi activated. The only thing i and thousands other are waiting for samsung to response (or we all will leaves samsung forever) is ... Now when I say booth don�t think 12′ of table space and some curtain and drape, no the Samsung Booth at the IFA Show is the size of an airplane hangar. We have much more to show you in the next couple of days. Since we were blessed with face time with the Samsung Galaxy Tab yesterday instead of following the herds of European press to the Galaxy Tab demo area, I took a b-line to this beauty, the Samsung Galaxy Beam. This Galaxy S variant features a lot of the same specifications of other Samsung Galaxy S phones, including SuperAMOLED screen, on board 16gb of memory, Android 2.1 etc. But what sets this device apart and gives it its name, �Beam� is the built in WVGA projector for presentations on the go. Imagine having the ability to show slides during your literal, elevator pitch. This is one of the phones I�ve been waiting to get my hands on, the unfortunate part, is that it probably won�t see a place in US retail stores anytime soon. Samsung spokesperson Kim Titus stated there were no plans for the immediate future regarding the Samsung Galaxy Beam. The problem with bringing this device over is price-point. This phone would have a hard time seeing a subsidized price sub $300 because the carriers can�t make any money off the projector and while it�s neat to have it doesnt appear that it�s on anyones upcoming �roadmap� but alas just seeing it in person is an amazing feat.

Apparently, this is due to them anticipating that they'd struggle to sell it sub 300 dollars and the carriers not being able to make money from the onboard projector. I'm not sure anymore about its launch prospects in UK/Europe. Being from the UK, i hoped that we'd get some news in the next 24-48 hours from the IFA event. After months of waiting, it may be that Beam fans like myself will need to look elsewhere for our next smartphone, maybe HTC desire HD. Do Samsung let people down with broken promises often?

The question is: Is the cpu stable at 1Ghz(thats enough isnt it?)and is that the PowerVr sgx chip?(if im right) If it is i will really consider getting this phone. To be honest beam is no different to any other android phone apart from one thing...projector. I know i know its nothing big but every phone i had in past always had something that no other handset would have. Beam seems to be a good choice but after buying i8910 im really pissed off with samsung...It is very likely that same thing will happen to beam. If only this was an Htc or any other brand as they seem to care more about customer and updates.   • Hi people, my beam has finally stuck itself as with many others. But this was after 6 weeks of usage and also right after I successfully overclocked it to 1ghz. It froze at 1.2ghz then would'nt restart again. So basically I caused it to stuck as well althou lol... now time to look for a solution besides sending it back to singapore.

  • Hi All, if, and only if, Singapore is really a testing ground for the Samsung Galaxy Beam smartphone. Don't you think it is highly unethical for Samsung to make use of paying consumers to test the phones and allowing the consumers to endure the poor customer services. i.e poor customer services here arise from the unavailabilty of patches and fixes to troubleshoot issues experienced by end-users. In my opinion, Samsung should not market the phone until it is proven to be fully functioning out of the box. I believe that poor ethics will not result in good business.

  • Hi all, further to my previous post, I have decided to rule out the Iphone 4G as a contender. The Samsung Beam is the firm favourite with the Nokia N8 second favourite. Both have excellent batteries. Iphoone has a fast processor but has a poor battery and no SD card slot. I am very much about the battery. The Beam I recon would need to be charged once every three or four days with its beast 1800 mah battery which is the strongest for any mobilr phone. I can't understand why they dont install this in all smart phones. Instead people with smart phones like HTC, iphone 4 etc have to charge daily. My former phone Nokia E72 was charged once every four days. My current Nokia 5800 is charged once every three days. Anyway people who are considering this beauty, don't be alarmed. Singapore is the guinea pig testing ground unfortunatly for those in that part of the world. Samsung have a big reputation in Europe and North America. They will iron out all software bugs by the time it reaches us. In my case, the UK. The first batch of anything in life is usually flawed. The engineers get feedback and tidy things up for the second and all subsequent batches. This Samsung Beam has everything. In the meanwhile why we wait, just utilise all the functions in our current phones for the last times. Also be saving up for this if you havent already. By November, we will have our new baby. The only way I wont get this phone is if they cancel it. This is unlikely. Patience - not to much is a virtue. Good things comes to those who wait.

  • hi Jeffrey, I completely agree it is hard to choose a good phone these days. I thought I'd found one in the Beam, but all the problems are putting me off it. The only thing that keeps me hanging on, is the projector. Like David from London says in his post, I too hope by the time it reaches the UK, Samsung will have sorted this phone out and make us all happy.

I believe the delay is due to the fact that they have run out of amoled screens and are ironing out the software. I know when it reaches Europe, it will be perfect. I am also considering the soon to be released Nokia N8 or the iphone 4G. All have a great battery except the iphone 4G. The delay in the release of the Beam is giving me time to save up and continously research on this and other phones. I will make my purchase around November after my vacation. I currently have a Nokia 5800. A great reliable phone but I am thinking of leaving Nokia as I want something different.

Is it worth to get one at this point where people have problems (other comments) such a good phone when it comes to spec but i bet its the same story as my i8910 where samsung didnt give much attention to software updates...ofcourse there are mods and cusotmized firmwares out there but i think samsung should release phone that works out of the box. Plus how many people will have this phone? And who will write customized firmwares for it as this could be our last hope of getting a good device. So hard to chose a good phone this days. Nevertheless, You have proven a point, the QC for is beam seems to have double standards. f someone is to ask me if he or she should buy the BEAM, I would reply "why take the risk?" of inviting potential problems? E.g Multiple visits to the customer service centers to get phone issues resolved, and the need to face other new issues after software upgrades. This is my closure.

I always get "no Updates" when I try Samsung APPs. I could access it before the software upgrade. THe GPS always show "your location is currently unavailable". Please advice. Thanks

  • Hi Tictoc, as an user myself, you should cancel your order. I am advising as in my opinion, samsung did not deliver what they have advertised and you will have to put up with the arrogance of their Plaza Singapura technicians. Why paid and look for all these unhappiness? Anyway I have lodged a complain to CASE and this will cost money as well. So ponder no more and get the Iphone.

  • @Fan: Thanks for your story. I'm sorry u went through all that. I sent mine back to Singapore for repairs. When I got mine back, it was updated to firmware: I8520DXJH1. All seems good so far, but I do have crashes once in awhile. I still have not used the "lock pattern" yet on the fear of it might "freeze" on the Android screen again. Has anyone used the "lock pattern" with the new firmware?

  • I bought it from StarHub... Really like this phone but i think SAMSUNG didn't test it throughly before they release into the market. I have a SAMSUNG Galaxy S too..it too has some issue but not as bad as the SAMSUNG BEAM.

  • I have bought this phone on 30 Jul 2010. Since then, I have visited the Samsung service center 4 times in less than a month. The issue are as follow. the first 2 vists are to refresh the software to overcome the "hanging issue at andriod Screen". The 3rd visit, I was there to "upgrade" the software to rectify the hang at andriod screen issue. However, after installing the upgrade. The GPS, Samsung Apps could not be run. When using Samsung Apps, the message "no updates" will be shown. Another issue that user may experience is when usig Samsung Kies to convert video to MP4, if user try to play the video on the Galaxy Beam, the message the file format is not supported. I've sent the phone to the customer service again on the 24th Aug 2010 to report the issues and left the set there for checkup. On 27th August, I was told to collect the phone only to realise that the technician has reinstalled the software again, wiping out all the installed applications but leaving the problem unresolved. When questioning the counter staff and the technician, they simply told me that the Samsung Apps is not available on Galaxy Beam. However, when I questioned that when I first bought the phone, I could access the Samsung Apps. They further replied that "Maybe" they have removed the function. Upon questioning on the MP4 issue. They replied that I should use another converter. I am very dissatisfied with such unprofessionalism and lack of competency, that I have refushed to sign on the service chit to "certify that the repair was done to my satisfaction". I think we, the Galaxy beam users have suffered enough inconvenience already. I am going to request CASE to pursue the matter with Samsung for launching such products that are no operationally ready, and also for misrepresenting that Samsung Apps/ Andriod Market is available as a valid feature on their product flyers.

  • Since i've got it in JULY, it's been giving me problems. I've changed the sets twice. First, is the "hang" problem. You can't turn ON the phone if you turn it OFF. The Service Centre has to load/reset it. SAMSUNG knows about this issue. After samsung service centre ( only a week back ) release the "patch", it didn't have the "hang" problem BUT now, android app seems to be "crashing". Can't play video unless i end task the video player. Clock app will "crashed" too... If you want to buy it, i think you have to wait for samsung to release a STABLE phone.

  • Yeah I rooted it last week by test and trial :D Runs much smoother now... I firmly believe is got nothing to do with the firmware but a particular batch of the Beams. Because a lot of people with stock firmwares have no trouble with their Beam since release (eg me)

  • I heard starhub, which seems to be the main supplier of the beam, has run out of stocks because Samsung has run short of screens for the new phone and won't be getting any till the end of the month. So it looks like it won't arrive in the UK till the end of September. Anybody know how long it takes to ship from Singapore to UK because I've had one on order since June and I'm fed up waiting. Also anyone know if the next batch with already be upgraded with the latest firmware so we don't get the freeze on startup problems. And I also have read that some people have 'rooted' their Beam to cut down on the lag, a one button operation apparently.

  • Somehow my posts below was cut short. But anyway that is exactly what I use my beam for. Watch 60~70'' in my room for movies and etc. Brilliant! Need about 2-3m of distance to get a good size projection however. Search on google singapore regarding buying mobile phones online and you will see many options. GSM blocks any links so that's the best I can tell you.

  • Mixed reaction for the camera, some say are good some say is ok. Take a look at the two reviews posted in the earlier posts. @Jeffrey - You can access media servers via the inbuilt app "All Share". That means projecting movies, images etc. And it does work. I use WM11 with W7 to do this. @student - I think this phone is way before its time. Hence it is a limited release and is more of a test of the technology rather than a flagship model launch in hundreds of country eg Galaxy S @Others - Reports from Beam users who flashed to the newest firmware shows that the Boot Freeze issue is now fixed. Good News! @also - I managed to get my Beam rooted today and installed some root access apps. This has made my beam more snappy. It is a matter of time before a kernel can be release so a rooted Beam can be overclock to 1ghz to 1.2ghz in the same vein as Motorola's XT720 (they have the same OMAP3440 cpu). At this speed beam will become a monster! Beam's advantage of a pico projector and its 1800mah battery can no be matched by any other androids :D

  • Yup it's those 9 circles for the lock pattern. @tictoc, you know about the lock code for cellphones where you punch in your number and that prevents people from using the phone right? (different from the pin) anyways, the lock pattern is like that except on Android phoens instead of using numbers, you can draw a specific line pattern on your phone to lock it. Harder to guess I suppose, there should be videos on youtube showing how it works.

  • first time I saw this phone I was very impressed..impressed in such a way that instead of getting the galaxy s, I chose to have the galaxy beam.. for 3 days of used i noticed some problems but by power on reset, phone recovered. But on the 4th day of trouble phone was stuck with android image and since then never recovered. Honestly, I really like this phone but because of its software, I finally returned and exchanged it with galaxy s. From then on, I feel much relieved no more troubles like with galaxy beam..

  • I think a projector phone combined with a qwerty could still be 1-2 years away. I can't imagine how thick it will be coupled with a qwerty keyboard :p is already 15mm now! They will need to miniaturize some of the beam's feature atm so we can fit a qwerty keyboard in under 15mm. is fine for those people who doesnt like a keyboard thou hah

  • hey rob, i do not have that motorola to compare the sound quality so I can not really comment. But as per the comment above you the beam has stere speakers coupled with a sound engine of its own (DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine)). So the sound quality must exceed the motorola. tbh the beam is the most feature rich phone on the market right now, besides not having a HDMI out or a larger screen. it pulls attention to whoever i show it too tbh

  • xt720 speakers is such a disappointment .... Built quality wise , better than beam since alot of "alloy" is used but then the speakers , well , play a long song at the loudest and u can hear "cracking" sound at the back ...

  • I doubt is as good as 5800, because 5800 has an independent audio chip for sound.

  • I HAVE ordered a Samsung Beam, but and it's a big but, I am seriously thinking of canceling it considering all the issues people are having with it constantly crashing. Like for instance, using the unlock pattern which causes it to freeze on startup. I mean exactly what is this "unlock pattern" thingy, what does it do? Another problem some are experiencing is the use of the ATK or Android Task Killer, by setting it too high which also causes crashes. Apperently there should be a new software release using version G2 and Samsung are now testing version G6. The only thing that keeps me holding on is the projector, without it I wouldn't by another Samsung phone, It would be straight to the iphone 4.

  • The speakers are louder than my old Acer liquid at max volume. Quite a bit louder actually. Theres a 5.1ch button which I can press. In terms of bass I really need something to compare with... It is a pico projector after all. In day light situation if you have all your curtains drawn it is acceptable quality. But to have the best experience you really need to play the media in a dark room. The light intensity is 6-9 lumen. Which is not a whole lot if you are in a lighted room!

  • I did'nt do anything to the locking settings, which is what is causing the freezing at the moment. Avoid using an unlock pattern/locking your sim card etc Avoid until a fireware with it fixed is release of coz!

  • I knew about the freeze problem with putting locking patterns and etc so I have avoided all of that. No freeze what so ever! :p

  • I would not recommend anyone to buy this phone now until samsung fix the hand at "Andriod" screen issue. I have to run to my local Singapore samsung service center to have the software reflash twice within a week of buying this phone. It always occur when you power off and power on the phone. I met many peoples at the service center who were there with the same issue. This is not an isolated case. Anyway, I had enough of this problem and I am going to sell off this phone. I must say no other phone I have bought ever made me ran to the service center twice within a week of using it. In summary, it's a feature pack phone with a crappy phone software that will get corrupted and hang at startup.

  • I have bought the phone from Starhub for less than a week as I was very impressed with the features of the phone. However, yesterday, I have tried to lock the SIM with password. I shut down the phone and on it again. I encountered the "stucked at Andriod screen" issue too. I have leave the phone on for the whole night and the screen is still stucked at Andriod. I wonder if Samsung has done a proper product test before marketing the phone and I wonder if Starhub has reviewed the phone before bringing it in. If IPHONE 4 has poor signal, then this phone has no signal at all! Actually I am utterly disappointed.

  • I ordered mine online through a singapore online phone shop. Very easy to find just search it under SG's google. Have had no problem with the stuck screen. But I heard is got something to with the pattern unlocking, although I almost never do pattern unlocks. All in all I am very satisfied with the Beam. The novelty that comes with the on board projector is simply wonderful :P Basically I watch my movies on the beam now instead of my monitor! 60'' in the comfort of your own room... nice!

  • Do not attempt to use this in a well lit area. You will not get good result. But for example at night with curtains drawn you can project 50-80" easily with good quality. All in all similar performance as other pico projector

  • Hi All, I have got my samsung beam just for one day and the next day it de off after I have fully charge the phone battery and try turning is on and you know what it hang. just by showning me the startup android word. for more then 15mins I send the phone back to the shop and was brough back to samsung sevice centre. TILL NOW no news of returning. Really piss off with samsung product as this is the second time product problem issue by samsung. first my omnia II and now samsung galaxy beam. it is a good phone but poor in quality. thats is what I can say.

  • Received my beam today but am having trouble trying to play some mp4 files. They worked fine on my acer liquid but they are listed as unsupported file format in beam. When i tried to open them using rock player they shutter quite badly too. Worked fine in the liquid... any have any ideas? similar cpu speed too hmm

  • I would be very happy with the phones camera were the fram rate smooth, with good detail, minimal noise if it were on par with the Galaxy S. From what I have seen the Galaxy S is on par with the Iphone 4 & seems to retain a smoother fram rate aswell. It depends on the handset, most are great with the odd few dropping frames etc... So take a look a loads of Galaxy S videos, then take a look at the beams videos then tell me if you prefer the Galaxy S to the BEAM. I can say Galaxy S for certain! Sorry that I am expressing my concert so much, but this is unnacpetible for a device so many people had high hopes for to replace their 5800XM or other music phones, sub par camera is not the way to sell this phone SAMSUNG?

  • It is questionable as to what CCD image sensor, optical lens has been employed in this phone. We know that the camera has a higher Mp, but the Mp is unimportant. For now the Wave & Galaxy S employ the same optical lens, CCD image sensor at 5Mp & the quality is easily discernable. You just can not accept the amount of artifact compression noise, dropped frames that are very visible, laggy especially in low light. Maybe the CPU is the cause or the bottlneck, but I should think the 720Mhz CPU can handle 1280x720P should it not? If this is the case, then the CCD, lens or some other anomoly is the cause for the poor Video qualitywhich isn't HD!

  • So I got mine in yesterday. Had it for one day. The next day it froze on me, so I tuned off cell. Afterwards, it would not boot up. it got stuck on the "Android" logo loading screen. I did the usual.. remove battery and after a few retrys, it failed to boot up. Sad now, I have to send it back to Samsung. When it was working, the projector was cool!!

  • I do not know about video in but if you do have a device with DLNA (for example windows media player 11 or tversity in PC) that should do it since specs said DLNA support.

  • The specification of this phone says its released, however, I have been checking all over and can not find this phone. Worst is that it was released in Singapore via StarHub and its even removed from their website as of this morning(could be earlier I checked today after couple of days)

  • I think, and this is just a guess you understand, that judging from the info I've read on the net, the Samsung Beam could be released in the U.K. around about the 17th August. That's a month after its release in Singapore. Then taking into account a couple of weeks to get from the dealer to me, I guess I will have my phone by the end of August which will just about be the third quarter of the year as predicted on the net.

  • I don't see why this handset will not be released in Europe specifically the UK where I am situated. Samsung not releasing this phone will mean a huge loss of revenue in my opinion. I currently have the Nokia 5800 and will get this phone as my first choice or the Nokia N8 as my second choice. Both have strong batteries which is a massive draw. The Samsung Galaxy is not in my short list as the camara has no flash. The Iphone 4G no chance at all. It doesn't interest me and I am not a sheep easily influenced by the Steve Jobs marketing. Will this get the Android 2.2 upgrade anybody? I think this will cheaper than the N8 and the N8 has no video light. I have been into Nokia for most of the time and feel its time to switch camp.

It would be nice to have a clear 720P video of some music playback on those stereo loudspeakers on the BEAM or what would be better an accurate comparison of loudspeakers vs Wave or 5800. Now that would be cool! Samsung must release this phone over in the UK, because there must be plenty of people who are interested. Sadly if this thread is anything to go by the population, we really need some reality check statistics & need to know how many pople are buying this phone. This thread needs to attract more people like the N8, Iphone4 & the Galaxy S. Singapore may decide whether it does well & decide whether it gets to the european countries including UK. SO here is hoping that this phone does well & we look forward to the new reviews, demo vids, 720P, images, loudspeaker tests, because there are imaging enthusiasts, video enthusiasts, music phone enthusiasts or those complete multimedia enthusiasts that would like to know if their element of interest is worth the buying of the product. For instance I bought my 5800 because it had great sounding loudspeakers, this matters to some people & makes or breaks buying the phone.

  • STEREO SPEAKERS ARE MY INTEREST SINCE I'VE OWNED MY 5800XM I CAN NO LONGER DO WITHOUT FAIRLY LOUD BASSY STEREO LOUDSPEAKERS IN A MOBILE PHONE! I know there are mixed perceptions with all phones. I saw someones blurred pictures of their bird. Although blurred the quality seemed to be good quality with no noise so maybe just need to enable Macro mode (close up). This 720P video seems pretty stable, at least as good as samsung wave & galaxy s as far as I can tell. It looks promising & will probably please most people. Once I've seen some more 720P videos, images, then I will be able to make up my mind whether the quality is good in my minds eye. I've heard from daniel at Tech65 (Gear65) that the BEAM's stereo speakers aren't that loud for playing back movies through PICO projector. But you are bound to need external speakers anyway for that. If the stereo speakers are 65dB, then they are bound to be excellent at least better than the 5800 I own. I have to say I love the sound on my 5800, just hope the Beam retains the same bass & is bit louder.

  • Funny..these are all phones in my personal compare category! However, I am leaning towards the Beam, projector is very cool, sound is incredible, the battery and enrgy saving display, the 8.0 camera, tv out...+ all the goodies and o/s you'd expect! Any doubts about the version of Android..can be updated! I could go on..Long story short.. i've been creeping this phone since it was a rumor in Samsung's eye!

Although the codec support is no longer something special since the launch of the Rockplayer app which supports even more codecs. Based on one of the latest reviews Ive read the sound quality does not sound promising so far. First review of Galaxy Beam:

  • BEAM also has a far superior battery. Best on the market in fact. Beam has more RAM, better Bluetooth, brighter display and plays xvid & divx files. It has double more internal memory as standard (16gb). Sound quality has to be heard to be believed after listening to my friends WAVE phone - fantastic. BEAM has same stereo twin external speakers and surround sound processing as WAVE - so that is very cool for me. However, the MOTOROLA may still be a possibility for me if the price is significantly cheaper than the BEAM.

But if you are like me and wants a freakin projector on your phone then it will be Beam for sure :P

  • Big no to X10 (No multitouch). Galaxy S/Wave depending on which OS you want. Obviously Android at the moment with all the apps behind it. Beam is a Galaxy S with a slower CPU, fatter but with a better camera with flash and a pico projector. If you do not need any of the latter 3 specs of the Beam go for the galaxy S

  • I think it depends on what you want, if I would want a small computer, I'd choose the Galaxy S, but in this case I want something that's a good smartphone but also has a great camera. That's why I'm waiting for this phone and I wonder why we still haven't got any photo samples of it or video samples? But I believe it's camera should be at least as good as Omnia HDs, hopefully even better. :) According to the specs this phone is really great, just wonder why it's so unpopular and why are they taking so long to release it.

  • @SG Guy Also the phone has mobile office applications which should support, .xls, .ppt, .doc/.docx or odt. I'm not sure of the support of the built in office applications but it should reallyread the latter type file formats from most major office standard applications. The phone should also allow you to bluetooth, wifi, or usb the office files or in particular to you case the powerpoint presentations/slides over to the phone, then you can project them. So you have 3 alternate routes in which to accomplish your task with that question.

  • @SG Guy Hello. You can use the phones PICO Projector like an old Over Head Projector "OHP". Switch on the PICO Projector, place the slide underneath & there you have it. Alternatively if you don't want to take slides with you, just take a picture with the camera, then you can project the images or videos from the media gallery. Simples!

  • Hey er. man, galaxy beam has OMAP3440 ARM Cortex A8 + power SGX 530 GPU, what do u have to say about that..

  • The BEAM has some brilliant Stereo Loudspeakers whereas the N8 Monaural Loudspeaker may still be very good. But GPRS & EDGE is only Class 12. The Nokia N8 does have GPRS & EDGE Class 33, which matters if you live in places like India or wheres theres no 3G 7 you are still using GPRS. HSDPA of the N8 at 10.2mbps is faster but no UK network takes advantage of 7.2mbps let alone 10.2mbps, so most people of most areas may use 3G, 3.5G HSDPA anyway. So GPRS is the be all end all to many. The BEAM though can do swype txt, Handwriting which is nice. In the Media Playback department the N8 can play Windows Media Videos whereas that's the N8's only Media playback advantage over the BEAM. The BEAM having a higher resolution screen & SAMOLED will have better edge definition to watching movies & playing back images & home videos. The N8 images will look superior & overall the 720P capture quality will be better on the N8. I don't know whether the GPU of the N8 is more powerful than the BEAM. Not sure which GPU BEAM has. So N8 may be better for Video gaming. Ofc theres lots of features & touches the N8 has over the BEAM. 8Mp can be decent enough if it's got a great image sensor & if the camera & video quality is decent enough & samsung have done a good job there. Then you can't beat the BEAM for an all round device. I think Nokias next multimedia phone is going to be something special considering. There needs to be a phone that has a mergence of technologies from the N8 & BEAM I think. A true high end phone.

It's nice to see a second *NEW* video for singapore launch besides the "Unboxing Video". In this video, every aspect of this mobile is looking better than anticipated I have to say. Also the speed & the CPU are excellent choice & will only help further battery life, it looks quick enough too. What is MOST exciting about this phone is that it manages to sqeeze in brilliant sounding loudspeakers, wifi b,g,N, BT 3.0, quad band radio. FM radio/recorder, projector/OHP, 3.7" SAMOLED screen, Capacative multi touch input, 16GB internal/32GB MicroSD, 8MP camera, 120x720P video, brilliant gaming GPU. But what I think puts the icing on the cake.. MOST important key aspect is having multi extensible format support with most MEDIA type files. mp3, wma, ogg, aif, aac, e-aac+. DiVx, XviD, H.263, H.264 etc... JUST BRILLIANT! This phone is looking so good in this video it's looking fery positive indeedy. Again. Can't wait for the Full Vid Review. Sure everyone else is too.

  • Well, I wasn't able to test this but if you can visit CommunicAsia2010 at Singapore Expo (last day tomorrow) I think you can try this one. I was trying out the new Galaxy S and Samsung Wave and didn't realize that the Galaxy Beam on one side was the one with the projector. I was more fascinated with NTT Docomo's separable phone with projector module that time.

  • I think Samsung want to make their dominant mark by making large footprints all over the mobile market. I've never seen a mobile manufacturer lease so many device so fast. Samsung really do have massive R&D funds available. All Samsung & Nokia need to to do is continue to provide the competetion where it's needed. A bit of stimulus & pressure by releasing handsets by the week, might not help vendors like apple as much. Who are they trying to put pressure on? Clearly the competition is needed in the software segment - the app marketplace. So if they like Nokia can achieve this. Then Apple will have some stiff competition. I think samsung are doing this so they can actually build up pletny of handsets with variety hoping that they will attract a big customer porfolio & also be able to attract developer support by making this statement. Clearly they aren't going to go away. These handsets can only help build a developer base for more apps, hence more variety of handsets, more customers & devs in which to make it happen & achieve a solid afoundation on which to build BADA, ANDROID, APP market.

  • Looking at the last pic. I can't see a PICO in the so called labelled BEAM pic? unless they have changed design completely & have done well to hide or compact the PICO tech some more. I can't see this being the case though because the BEAM is suppossed to be running ANDROID? Isn't it? So. My poorly drawn guesse is that this phone could be the successor to wave - the Wave 2. Why? Because it looks to be running BADA. This leaves the Wave 2 Pro but that's rumoured to have a built in qwerty keyboard. SO. What else could it be? Well they are planning to release an Omnia Pro 4. But GSM thing that is a Windows 7 phone. So what is this phone? It could be the Okmnia Pro 4 with BADA not Windows 7! I love guesswork & exciting news. Of course they mention there is one other unknown device being unveiled & it does fall in the ANDROID category with the I5 series, the I9, could this be BEAM or Omnia Pro 4 desguised in a new outfit.   • So let me get this right. Samsung are going to unveil a bunch of it's BADA OS phones already! Waves successors already. ?... Isn't this a bit of rampant crazy step too far for Samsung. We know the (Onmnia Pro 4 is probably going to be on the Windows based Windows 7 Platform). Being unveiled tomorrow. But also unveiled tomorrow are a bunch of Android phones aswell. The Galaxy S, I5500 Corby, & one unknown device. If samsung are releasing the Galaxy series I9, then releasing a series I5, then they might release the series I8. The Wave has been released, a brandnew Galaxy S is available in a week, a B7722 came up and now a Galaxy Apollo has been announced. Nothing but silence about the Beam, the most exciting and promising phone next to the Nokia N8. So, since I calmed down, I have to say that's a shame of Samsung to let slip away this phone. Though I'm a Nokia User (5800), I know about its Goods and Bads. But the Bads don't affect me. They rely on internet-stuff and I'm only interested in making phone calls, listening to music and watching videos. The 5800 is perfect for that. Better than the N97, I had also a short time. To come to an end, the I8520 Beam would have been the phone to get me into the Samsung-Boat. You know the specs about it, they are great. So I'm very sad, that this one died befor it has seen the daylight.

  • this is just to come in india in june only, most prob. mid june of this year 2010...... thats great initially would be available only at limited outlets.. eg: only 6 outlets in delhi.... and the expected price is about 2,3k higher than samsung wave... thus would be around 19,20k i just contacted today with one of the six stores in delhi... isnt that amazing........ great wave is a great phone, but this is the greatest. i think its better than the upcoming nokia n8.. in all respects, except the camera (12mp on n8 ,8mp on this.)

  • @ arunavha moholanobis. Do you mean the W960? The 3D phone. This is only for the Korean Market at the moment! @ Thorgar & dave @ London Uk. Are you sure this is an arial? The spec sheet doesn't mention any DVB-T module or interal tv tuner. The spec does mention that the phone has multi-input options. As the phone has a transreflective SAMOLED capacitive touch screen with multi input. It could be just nothing more than a stylus touch pen, maybe... Of course I'm open to being wrong if someone has found a vid or somethign with proof, but it's highly unlikley & strange that GSMarena would not know surely it would be listed on spec sheet everywhere, but it is not. Sorry to ruin anyones hopes. I still maybe wrong. lol

  • Samsung have been doing well to keep any developments, rumours & secrets about this phone since it's unveiling. Even GSMarena have completely dismissed any mention of this handset for the exceptions of only mentioning a few other models. Now samsung have released wave, & galaxy soon, this phone may be next. Since it was their third leaked model after the other two. If this device does fall in July. It's an ideal opportune time for me to upgrade. Nice. For those that want to know about it's cam capabilities. I don't think it will have a CCD image sensor, aperture, lens as good as the phone you mentioned. The CPU is a Cortex A8 I think 800Mhz. Not exactly sure whether it's getting a GPU. But the rest is a perfect spec for me. Can't wait.

  • I am very interested in this phone. I would have gone for the Samsung Galaxy but the lack of camara flash put me off. I know the Galaxy has 1GHZ processor compared to this one which is 800MHZ but you will not really notice that. On the picture gallery, one shot shows a retractable arial. What is that about? That is so 1990's. Why the need for that? Mobiles have arials stored internally now. Do any of you know if this phone will have a keypad lock key? Maybe one can be set up as default? It is not that pretty and is a little thick which is required for the projector but has tremendous specs. The excellent battery is a big lure for me as most smart phones have poor batteries (HTC Desire, older HTCs, iphones etc). I am not one to be charging daily and keeping it in the car/office charger 24/7. My current phone the Nokia E72 has an excellent battery. I charge this one every 3 - 4 days. The Beam will be similiar. This is my first choice to buy around October. The Galaxy is a slim outside chance. I am done with Nokia. Ericsson no way. HTC if they release something with a strong battery. Samsung may also release a QWERTY similiar to the Beam, Galaxy or a Galaxy with a flash later in the year. Regardless, it must carry Android.

  • If there are any Samsung guys looking here. Could you kindly please give us some info as to how long we have to wait for GSMarena to get a sample test unit & preview. With the samsung galaxy & wave almost upon us & imminent release dates near within the same week or so. Guys - you must be working on the I8520. One site phonedog, may have released specs saying that the I8520 may have 2GB for OS, 3GB for RAM, 4GB for ROM, 16GB for NANDFLASH HDD but I'm sure this is certain to be a rumour. Knowing now that the Galaxy I9000 gets 512MB RAM. It's more likely that we could see a definitive 384MB or 512MB RAM for the I8520 without any doubt. It would be nice to have any hints or rumours from some annymous spies or people in the know. Also there are rumours that apple may bring competition to samsung quite heavily if their Iphone HD gets 960x640 pixel res, with over 32GB Internal mem. Their 3GS has 256MB, so it's easy to think that it might easily get 512MB or more to compliment that nice apple A8 Cortex CPU, or ermm... *cough* *cough* ARMS A8 CPU which again apples have put their name on it.. Haven't looked at apples updated spec sheet, but wondering if anyone knows whether the screen is TFT or OLED. Camera is likely to get 5MP. But I will probably be buying Android device most likely. I can't stand not to have flash, google apps' etc...

  • Pretty soon integrated projectors will become the new norm even though this will mean that your phone will be completely drained out of juice after watching a full movie - in a pitch black room. I'm all for more convergence - don't want any more gadgets - but I do wonder what more could we possible want once battery performances will be solved for good? As for me, I'll pick this baby up (or similar since Kyocera has shown that these gadgets can be made and sold next to nothing) for $200 off craigslist in a year or two...

  • Well I have a feeling that the ARM Cortex A8 800MHz maybe better than a 1GHz Snapdragon in some respects, but not in others. So I'm not sure if I'm ok by that. Samsung haven't told us how good it's multimedia capabilities really compare for gaming to the I9000. If the I8520 is to be a great Multimedia mobile, then surely the 3D graphics chip is important & imperative that they at least include a good one. One reason and something which bothers me is that samsung seem to be mixing great ingredients but not putting the correct ingredients with the correct phones. Don't get me wrong, samsung is including some out of the world tech way ahead of *some* other manufacturers, but it won't take long for nokia to play catch up with a High end phone soon. For instance The I9000 will have the most powerful 3D graphics chip integrated into a mobile handset. This comes with Snapdragon Chipset as standard, but the ARM Cortex A8 maybe just as snappy, but does it have the great 3D Hardware Engine Chipset that phones with snapdragon automatically get. So the I9000 is better at gaming but the I8520 looks like it will integrate better External speakers than the I9000. I like good speakers like the ones on my N5800 or better without headphones for ringtones or gaming sometimes. Other than that the I8520 really is the better phone. Slightly smaller screen with SAMOLED high res, longer battery life, same or higher internal memory, good speakers, higher quality camera, HD 1280 x 720P video recording. Android sounds nice. Anything here is going to be way better than my N5800. I don't wan't to sound ungrateful really, as I will probably buy this phone anyway no matter what hardware functionalities or extra useful niceties it may receive. SAMOLED + 1800MAH. Excellent batter life. Considering my Nokia N5800 with TFT lower res screen would need upgrade from 1320MAH to 2000MAH to compete with the Nokia N8 with SAMOLED with 1280MAH batter. The samsung is sure to last a long time. Whatever happens I can't wait for the news. Wave is being release on 28th May in UK stores, rumours that Galaxy may be released even sooner. That means all that is left is to turn attention to *I8520* phone. No new NEWs announcements from GSMarena yet but I'm sure that will change VERY soon!

  • This is the best phone i've seen so far!! I find the projector fascinating. It would be better if it has 1ghz processor along with Xenon flash. In addition, it's missing the most important camera feature is "image stabilization/anti-handshake." Overall, it is a superior phone compare to the rest.

  • Hi, Phone Specs seem good especially the Battery-life, Built in Projector, BUT some special features missing... 1)Definitely the DUAL SIM FEATURE required 2)Even though I know in modern times you don't fully refer to CPU Speed for performance, but I don't see why not a Faster CPU can be used at least a 1GHz 3) The Secondary Camera almost useless, still just a VGA 4)Must come out standard with a OFFICE EDITOR 5)IrDA (Infra Red Technologies)- For Remote Functionality would be nice Otherwise I know what my next phone will be...   • Yes. The projector is really a gimmick. I think they should leave it off too for another phone to slim the profile of the phone down a bit, because it does sort of spoil the great chic, sleek & elegance of the design when looked at from the front, & depth of the phone. But then the the whole phone's selling point is based on the BEAM & the PICO projector so I don't think they would get rid of it which is a shame because otherwise the pohne would look beautiful. When looked at at the side where the projector lies sort of spoils the look of design of rest of phone. But that's just my opinion. I hope that they do keep the 16GB, 512MB ROM, 384MB RAM will improve the responsiveness of interrupt request cycles for the memory to the processor. But I really hope they change the 800MHz CPU for the 1GHz CPU which is in the I9000, so it has great multimedia & gaming hardware Acceleration, which would really go with the multimedia theme. Overall this is the phone I'm looking for with plenty of Internal Memory. Look at Nokia X8, Nokia N900, Iphone 3GS, Nokia N97. All have massive internal memory, samsung need to look at this factor importantly. Super AMOLED is a definate for 20% more power efficient, 80% less reflective is definately a must & ideal for bright sunlight conditions. HTC desire & HTC have plenty of RAM & ROM. So they could do with at least upping the ROM & RAM if they are going to keep the 800MHz CPU to increase responsiveness & smoothness. Also the fact that you can only find the New wireless Standard for 802.11N is something you don't see in many other mobile brands yet. I also hope that they improve the speakers performance because I would hate to upgrade from my Nokia 5800 & then experience low volume. Because all multimedia enthusiasts are looking for great video, sound, gaming etc..

  • Samsung. Can you give us any clues as to whether the phone will get over a 1Gz CPU inside. Also will there be 8/16GB Internal memory. I think 384MB of RAM is great for Application memory. 512MB of ROM seems very good too. I think this is what the public are really looking for to sell this phone. Anyways I twiddled with the phone myself some days ago through my bro who works as a technical supervisor in Samsung korea...mind u the price range of about $700 is right though but its predictable. Btw, the LOUD SPEAKER loudness has nothing to do with DNSe. Its louder than a lot of sets out there in market but Omnia HD and Innov8 loudspeaker is just a little bit louder than this. I compared it myself.

  • If u've business needs only then Omnia II will suit you... But Omnia HD can fullfil most of your business needs as well as multimedia. There's very few phone's in the market that can match Omnia HD's all-in-one capability. Yes, both beam and omnia hd have office viewer upgradable even to editor. About touch response...Omnia II is resistive touch screen and thus less responsive than Capacitive touch screens oe Beam and Omnia HD... So in all I think you should go for either Omnia HD or wait for Beam.

  • My bro works for Samsung, korea...I Just got around to one of Beam's pre release unit in his office. Well, the one I got was running on android 1.5...my bro said that there's a lot of hardware tweaking yet to be done..the device was quite slow for that cause. But I liked the screen a lot. I transfered a D1 video from my i8910 via bluetooth & it was nice but bit disappointing 'cause of the noticable 65K color limitation of android 1.5...(The final version will have android 2 eclairs)...mind you the difference between my i8910's AMOLED and Beam's Super AMOLED is nothing big...the image is just a little bit more vibrant and bright...most noticable distinction however is just the screen resolution. The HD video recordings of beam is quite smooth but quite dark which I think is a contrast issue of the prototype. The projector is da real game here. The D1 video I played with it looked decent in da white wall but bright lights in da office ruined the pleasure. The stereo speakers sounded quite loud & clear but my Omnia HD is still louder. Unfortunately I couldn't check the gallary for which samsung is still developing a special treat. Overall the phone seemed quite promising to me once the developement gets done. If u guys wanna knw more about BEAM let me know. I'll try to get it out from my bro.

  • Hi all, I currently have a Nokia E72 which I purchased in January 2010. It is a tremendous phone. This beauty is something else though. Unless Apple, Nokia, Sony Ericsson or HTC do something spectacular - meaning launch a jaw breaking device, this will be my next phone. I will purchase this on November 1st. It will give me time to save up as it will be expensive. I will buy SIM FREE and NOT under contract. I do advise others to start saving too. By November, other brands would have released their new handsets but this for me is the favourite. I am also curious about having Android as I have used the Symbian OS for so long. The Beam is a bit thick but I used to own a Nokia 5800 which was just as thick. It is looks decent - a natural beauty more than a supermodel stunner. As for features, outstanding. The processor at 800mhz is decent. The battery seems decent too. I will never get a phone with a poor battery hence me avoiding the Nokia N900.

  • Though beam doesn't have wired T.V. out, it supports DLNA through which you can connect to supported T.Vs and Music systems which have DLNA via WiFi or Bluetooth. for T.V. out you just need high end T.V. set like L.G. Scarleet etc.

  • Well. The fact that it runs Android has an 8mp Camera and a 3.7inch displays make it different enough from the Wave. 3.3inchs is just too small in my opinion. With the room you�d save taking the projector out you can put a keyboard and other stuff I mentioned in. That would really differentiate it from the wave. I think ac.phil already mentioned the keyboard. It�s definitely a good idea.

  • ok, not to get ahead of ourselves, super Amoled is not a big upgrade over the standard amoled. And it does not in any way consumes less power, in fact bit more actually due to higher brightness setting and sunlight optimizations. (Don't listen to that other Samsung RP guy with location "ibq0", cause he isn't who u think he is; frankly not sure what he is trying to archieve.) The super amoled display is very similar to standard, but removes this layer of air between display, and outside glass making image appear brighter and sharper than ever before. At the end, u'll see a big difference in sunlight conditions. As for support if our products, we r doing our best. PH1, pico projectors with lesser energy consumption, have a longer lifespan than ordinary projectors, up to 2 years with minimum use. We cannot replace burned out bulbs of in-build projectors, but we can and most certainly will offer you an upgraded model next year for you to stay up to date in latest tech. Stayed tuned Samsung RP

  • And I forgot to mention if you already know or not, Super AMOLED is an upgraded version of AMOLED which is at least 5 times better than the old AMOLED wheter in a dark place or under the sunlight. It's also saves more power consumption that the AMOLED.

  • Well one things for sure this thing is going to be very expensive. I feel it would have been better they supplied a pico projector in the box with the phone rather than an in- built one, it would have reduced the thickness plus the performance of the projector would have been better.
