I miss this phone. I had this model in white and by far it was the HOTTEST phone I have had. Many people loved the design and would say to me that it's a HOT PHONE. I remember bringing it with me to Uruguay in 2007. This model hadn't arrived in South America and everyone who saw it was AMAZED. It was so cool having a cool phone and a phone that nobody had. It was by far the most advanced phone in Uruguay. Most people who had an "AMAZING" phone during my time in Uruguay had only a Motorola V3. By 2007, Australia already was trying to get rid of the phones, in contrast in South America it was considered an awesome phone.

It's not a bad phone. Mine is a hand-me-down from my Mum. I don't know what that other guy is talking about but this camera is quite impressive. It's only 1.3mp and but the auto focus is quite good and if you hold it still images generally aren't blurry. The flash works and as far as average phone cameras go its perfectly fine for an okay quality photo every now and then. Sound quality from the speaker is better than average and you can use WAV files for ring tones if you please. As mention by others the battery life is not as good as it could be, I get just over 2 days of use and I only use my phone for txting and receiving the very occasional call. The thing I do dislike about this phone however is the UI. In particular with the message inbox, one can only delete all messages in a folder or delete them individually. The phone does provide a "clean up feature" which has the default option on the left or the screen being "delete" but this really doesn't make deleting 100+ messages easy. most other phones e.g. Nokia seem to have an almost OS wide "mark" or "tick" function which will allow you to perform a single action on multiply selected items but this phone lacks this for some unknown reason. The MP3 play works well enough although i don't see why anyone would bother as you can only fit about 1CD on the phone at a time. I wish I could comment on the video calling features but I live in Tasmania which supports a better 850mhz 3G band which wasn't around when this phone was released.

I have this phone, and yes, the battery life is appalling, but it's a great phone all up. Music is quite loud,and good volume. Bluetooth I've only ever had problems trying to get files from my computer. you can drop it, throw it, even get it in puddles and it still survives. My only problem is the playlist. The buttons located on the right side of the phone (when closed) are kinda irritating, if you lean on it it starts screaming out all the songs in your playlist.... also, does anyone know how to delete your playlist/delete music from it? (without deleting the song from your phone??) Great! :3

I had the phone for about 12 months, and it was fantastic for 9 of them after that it just spazed out and was mired by many problems: could rarely send sms, the time and date would change on its own, often switching between 12 hour and 24 hour display and the camera just stopped working all of a sudden, but all in all if it hadnt been for these issues i would still be using this extremely rugged phone, but i love my iphone now

Enjoyed it first. The reason the large memory (more than 140 mb)10 mp3 from 4mb up to 9 mb honderds of pictures. Movies and still just half the memory full. Later the model became a little much. Next time a slider or a brick. Still good phone would advice anybody that want's it go for it.

i used this phone for about 6 to 8 months until i brought my nokia 5700 xm few weeks ago ... and i gave my z 510 to my father ... this phone is slim and pretty ... got so many functions but not the memory card slot or else u cant play videos in full screen rather than that the phone rocks ... i recommend this phone for anyone who needs a cheaper phone with some what good functions ... its display is very very colorful and very good in brightness ... the external mp3 player keys are very nicely designed ... the rotating 1.3 mega pixel cam is very very good on its quality plus it supports video recording , 3g and photo shooting modes ... sometimes u may think that it looks like moto v3 but its not trust me its way better than the v3 ... its firmware cannot be updated since it ain't a smart phone but its menus are very user friendly ... if ur trying to buy a moto v3 i think its better to give it up and go for this phone ... as i know both of the phones are same in there prize so go for the samsung z 510 not the v3 ...

I have had this fone for over a yr. Its a great fone w/ cheap price. Even though, it is kind of similar to Mot V3, it's a lot better: last long battery (mine is up to 2-3 days), nice performance, cute and easily-used mp3 player, small and slim phone, decent screen size ..... You should get this phone if you are looking for an affordable and functional phone.

I've had this phone for 2 years and except for the lack of a memory card slot, there isn't a better phone in the price range. I have had no trouble with this phone, and even though I have dropped it a few times, it had no affect on it at all. I am soon to update my phone as the plan I am on allows for a new phone every 2 years, but there isn't anything out there that comes close to this phone for ease of use,(easy to push buttons for bigger fingers) and reliability, I may have to hang on to this one till Samsung bring out an updated version. This is a great phone!

awesum fone. got it in white. for all you people who think its firmware is faulty, guess again. it is ur service provider who adds on the excess data and programs to ur fone to link it to the network. all samsung firmware is tested over and over again to eliminate faults. if it screws up alot and u got it off the internet it is probably parallel imported and not built for ur network.

I had this phone for about a year and i always had problems with the buttons freezing and not letting me go to other options so i had to press the end buttons a couple of times and it would let me back into the phone but then last week the biggest problem i had was the main screen went blank and it didn't come back so now it's at Samsung getting fixed i liked the phone but i found it was a bit harder to operate unlike other phones i had in the past so i'm going back to Nokia again.

The SGH-Z510 will accept picture/image files that are smaller than 1500x1500 pixels... But that mainly depends on your firmware. I believe that the phone is saying that it cannot open the image file? There is nothing you can do but resize the original image on the computer, then move it onto your Z510... Samsung phones around the world are having this problem. Samsung phones in the D series (except D500) are immune from this problem... D600 reads upto 3000x3000 pixels... Also, can you tell me what came with your Z510, when you first purchased it? (like charger, manual, warranty card, data-cable, etc) Can you specifically tell me please?? Thank you!

can someone explain why I cant download pictures onto my phone, message states it's too big for phone, doesn't matter what picture, unless it's been taken by the phone, can transfer them back onto the phone, however photos such as old family pictures wont allow. if that makes sense??

I had this phone for a bout 3 months and then it would send messages, and i had it fixed, 4 months later the camera went wrong so that was fixed, about 2 months ago it went wrong again and would just stay at the start up screen and repeat over and over again, my network blamed this for liquid damage and it wasn't even near water. I must admit i miss the phone, ye it had the button problem where they wouldn't work and it was rather slow but apart from this and the battery life it was a really gd phone. It is currently with samsung to see if they will fix it but at the moment am looking for a new phone, has anyone got any idea which one, i am looking at the W850i or maybe waiting for the W580i

I m from Bangladesh. Recently i m facing a critical problem regarding Z510 set. I am using Grameen Phone network's SIM. When i am wanted to press send button to call someone. The set becomes hanged for few time and then autorestarted. But others network SIM is working properly into this set including Grameen Phone's Old SIM (2-3 years back SIM), but new SIM of Grameen Phone network make my set hanged or stucked. I had tried 9 New SIM of GP. All of them make my set hanged. I went to Customer care center of GP and SAMSUNG(Bangladesh) service centre. Both of them Said "they dont know the real problem. Maybe need to upgrade the software of this set" I was really dissapointed about their answers. Right now its not usable to connect new sim of GP. But its emergency for me to connect with GP for different reason. Both of them failed to give services. So i need advices or suggesition from you directly. What i Have to do now? Could u pls help me? Thanks.

you need to make sure the photo on the phone is shared for bluetooth ( ie make visisble ) then you should be able browse and transfer to pc.

wow !! one of the best of all samsung phones ... really love using it ... its so slim and the rotating 3G camera is kool ... samsung phone displays are the best for quality viewing ... the inbuilt amp is making ur mp3s and tones more 3d and powerfull ... the media player is so much fun cuz the visuals in it can also be seen on the external display while the phone is closed ... the phone got no external memory slot but a memory of more than 130 mb inbuilt of internal memory which is fair enough for me ... got all the new generation features like bluetooth , 3G , and many many more stuff ... no wonder why this thing is called as one of the slimmest 3G phones with multimedia DNA ... this phone got style and it rocks but u better be carefull while using it dont drop it lol ...

i have had this phone for about 9 months and mostly it's pretty good, but i think i will go back to nokia next time! my biggest issue at the moment is that the buttons either dont work when i press them (and i have to keep pressing a few times) or i press once and it will come out 2 or 3 times. really annoying.

this phone is great ive had it for like about 4 months now.. i think.. but like the annoying thing is the battery life.. so its something to consider.. plus the battery charger and the hands free and the usb all use the same hole.. so yeah.. that might be a problem.. over all it is really good..

hi guys, just wondering is there anyway at all that you can change the message tone to a song cause the message tones given are weak. do i have to change the format of the song to an mmf instead of an mp3? because the ones that are mmf are the ones they give you with the phone. on my user's guide says in Idle mode, enter the area code and phone number. is the area code "1" then the number? i try to do that but doesnt work... then i just dailed "01" and it says "call restricted" please help asap!!!!

mike: you and the other party network carrier has to have 3G services in order to use the video calling with your phone. In the Philippines, where I came from, they've been using this service since 2004. In north america, network carrier cingular 3G video calling plan is scheduled to be implemented by the 2nd qtr of 2007.

I've had the phone for about 6 weeks now. A great phone with a nice big screen, it's got everything. The one big, big let down is the battery life. I have to charge it everynight. Don't leave it until the battery icon is on the last cell, it will just drop quickly.

Samsung Z510 is an amazing phone. I love using it, wonderfull surrownding sound with 3D quality. Superb display as Samsung makes ever. Camera result is fantastic. Only 1 weakness I felt, Battery is not much good. All in all it's an amazing cell phone.

Hey guys. I'm thinking of buying this phone and doing some reserch about it. Im with tmobile and currently have a samsung phone sgh-x670. its supposed to be mp3 player and be able to send and receive sms messages but i bought the phone unlocked from ebay and everything works fine except for these features. I cant download songs onto my phone cuz they're not in a certain format (not mp3-thinks its aac/acc) and i cant send or receive sms messages. I was told that it's because the phone is not configured to tmobile's settings/configurations. Is this true? If so, then would I still have this same problem with this phone..Z510? Let me know ASAP. As for comments about this phone being a copy of the V3X; I agree the phones have many similar qualities, but they are VERY different. The Z510 is a LOT slimmer, with it's screen producing more colours. The V3X has a better cam tho

I've had this phone for about 6 weeks now, and am VERY impressed! I found setting the phone up to be quite simple, and it's easy to set the ringtones, I don't understand why so many people have issues with it. I admit the interface design (ESPECIALLY WITH SMS MESSAGING)is very poor compared to the Nokia phones I used to have (especially when inserting special characters for smilies) but it's easy to get over and becomes second nature after a while. I'm a bit negative about the video feature, I was hoping I would be able to put MP4 videos on the phone and watch them like an MP4 player, which as far as I can tell is not the case, but I will keep you posted should I find out what I'm doing wrong. As for battery life, I'm getting about 2-4 days before needing a charge. (Hey, it's a very VERY slim phone with a whopping big screen, let's not go around expecting miracles here!!) All in all: Needs a bit of work on the user-friendliness of the interface and the PC software, and god-oh-god the SMS system needs work! badly! Otherwise, crystal clear screen and sound! Good loudspeaker, MP3 player kicks ass, all in all I am very happy with this unit. 8.5/10!

I just recently smashed my Z510 to smithereens on my concrete driveway and went and got a Motorola instead. Of course I should have just taken it back but I was having a bad night, it lost my SMS halfway through typing just one too many times, and I lost the plot. This phone is a disaster. The interface makes it completely unusable and slow, and is frankly just mindless. Do not get this phone. Get a Motorola or something equivalent that has actually had some interface thought put into it. I repeat, do not get this phone, it is a piece of garbage.

Also the samsung rep came into my work and i asked him the same question and he said no-the message tone is set to a aap format or something but plain and simpple no you can't do it. Cheers

This is the worst phone I have ever had. battery life is poor - battery has been replaced three times to date, it is incompatible with a nokia car kit, and periodically no longer recognises my sim card. menus are cumbersome, dare i say tedious in the number of steps required to achieve almost anything with this phone. After sales service is woeful!

Does anyone know how to improve the camera quality? It seems as though its in slow motion when you move the camera around whilst viewing it on the screen, the picture is about a second or so behind. I have gone through the settings already and changed the screen size and quality etc, but nothing improves it. Does anyone have any other suggestions? My samsung E720 only has a 1 mp camera but it is alot better than this one. Thankyou in advance

There is no doubt about it this phone is great! Question: How do you transfer MMS file you receive such as picture from your inbox to your PC? It only says "SAVE IN MULTIMEDIA" once you go to your template you can actually see the file that you saved but you can't transfer them to your PC - how do you do this? Anyone?

yeah, as i said 2 comments ago, i just got this phone! I really like it, great picture quality on screen because of the great pixel density and large screen... But you cant change the theme.. even if you import it from another phone (via bluetooth or usb) And also, it doesnt come with the proprietary USB transfer cable - which depending on where you are can be difficult to get. In australia i know for a fact that it will be hard to get the cable... i might have to try ebay or something.

Normally i live motorola's only and i am very picky about phones but this one is awsome... I got through a phone in about 3 months before this i used the v3 and then the v3i because there was no phone that satisfied my wants. This one surpasses those by far. And i think it will actually live way past 3 months. (more like a year and 1/2 or 2)

Hey i've had this phone for about a month now and this is probably one of the best phones i've ever had and i've had plenty. I recently got rid of the Motorola SLVR for this one and it has no comparison whatsoever. The only question i do have is that i was wondering is there any way to take a self portrait using the Z510's camera w/o haveing to actually face the lens towards me? Overall, a very good phone, I had a Sony Ericsson K700 i, it was clumsy, thick. Difficult to navigate and a nightmare. The z510 is easy to use, has a good display and is user friendly. The only matter I find hard is to open the charging port; as I have very poor eyesight. At first, I could not understand the diagram in user handbook, but finally got it open and charging. The CD with it is useless; the user guide likewise. Like most new technology; find your own way, trial and error.

theres one problem i noticed that was quite obvious with my z510 as i took it out of the box, where the end of the flip come in contact with the base of the phone it is kinda elevated on the side where the buttons. is that for all phone of the same model or just mine? just wondering?

z510 is infinitely better than Razr it replaced! (I admit I never used voice dial so I don't miss that feature on the old Moto.) US T-Mobile is confused because of the Italian "Tim" software on it--I can use T-Mobile Web, but not T-Zones. Other issue is that PC Studio s/w hangs whenever I try to use it. Does anyone know of any workarounds?

Hey i just got this phone...and i can change the sms tone but only to the gaybar files they provided. But in the "special tone" category there are 2 folders....i want to know if i can transfer my tones into the second folder....or do i have to convert my files to .mmf form or what? hey! i have had this phone for about 1 month now.. i have the white one and i love it! but it has already been freezing on me, and i have to take the battery out for it to work again. Im having the same problem as a previous post regarding T9 sms. Sometimes its not doing a capital letter at a start of a sentence and randomly does a capital letter in a the middle of a sentence plus sometimes types in a number which wont let me change unless I start at the beginnig of my sms again. Hi, I just got this phone a few days ago, the white one, and i do love it because i love all things white...but a little triangle next to the camera button (yes, the white part of the phone) has already chipped off. it's peeving me immensely. AND- I seem to be having some problems with the software. the first time i installed it it worked fine and i had a good playaround with it, and today i tried to connect it to my computer via the USB and it didn't recognize it; when i clicked 'connect' on the connection manager it kept returning back to 'not connected'. is it my computer's problem, or something i didn't with the software installation? help appreciated, thanks!

Hi, The phone is quite good. I have owned many including d600 and d820. My phone keypads lights switch off when I enter camera mode, play a game or play music. I am in Austarlia and I have tried 2 models - both the black and white version. The same thing. Screen still is lit up but just the keypad. It is extremely annoying at night. Thanks

I am having problems with the T9 when writing a message. Sometimes a word will start with a capital even when the small t9 letters show and then when I want to put a word with a capital (doesn't matter how many times I use the *) it wont let me. The only way I can do it is to go into th ABC. I phoned Samsung and was told that my phone must be faulty, there has never been a complaint about the T9 before. I see from previous posts that other people complain, so is there a faulty batch or are all the phones like it. I can take my phone back to Telstra within a month and they will change it, but will another be the same?

Hay guyz! I have the white one & have had it 2 weeks now.. It is the hottest phone! Tons easy to use, & it has heaps of cool lil trix! To get the front screen to come on when the flip is closed u can hold down the volume keys on the side or on the front you can hold either "Up or down" (MP3 Keys) They also work!! To flip the camera around when ur takin picz of urself (Yes.. we all do it!) All you do is press the volume key on the side - It will switch it. Unfortunately theres no way to change the soft keys (left & right front keys) u can only change the directional pad in the settings! The only thing i wish this phone has was some sort of theme or skin!! If anyone knows if there is a way to do this PLEASE reply!! Thanx :o) Nay!!

Hi Micheal, yes theres a pin feature you can set so that no-one can view your pics etc, unless they know the pin. Ive only had this handset for two days and im loving it so far. Im just checking out what the battery life is like, so will keep u all posted. I also have the Z320i, and i think its a fab phone, not sure which one i like better, lol.

to tootsie to use capitals while writing a msg u'll need to push the * key.. this will give u one capital.. if u want all capitals press it again.. :) hope this helps. also when ur in ur inbox and searching thru ur messages instead of going out of one message to go into another if u press hash it will go directly to the next msg in ur inbox!! and if u press * it will go back the other way!!

Lola, to turn off the beeping you need to choose the profile you want and press 'edit'. In 'Msg.alert type', you can choose either malody, vibrate or both. This will determine whether the msg sounds or not. You can also choose 'Msg.alert repetition' to either make the msg tone sound once or periodically until you check it. Remember to SAVE after you've checked something, it doesnt apply automatically.

To make a MP3 as a message tone I use a program called 'MP3 To RingTone Gold' program to save the mp3 to mmf format which is the format that the message alert tone uses. Then go to your Phone Profile and change the message alert tone to 'special tone' which you can load your saved mmf, once tranferred to your phone. Hope this helps

Excellent phone so far really pleased- loved the Samsung V200 and this could be on par if not better - the front screen goes off to cut down of power loss - to view it when the phone is closed hold down the volume button on the left hand side and the screen will light up - clever really when you think about it - no point of it being on if you aren't looking at it

The V3 doesn't ave a mem card so I dont know what your on about there and it only has 5.5 meg. and it only has a VGA camera, The Z510 on the other hand has 138 meg and a 1.3mp camera. The Z510 beats the V3 in every way. infact the only V serise phone you can truly compare the Z510 th is the V3x. As thats the only 3G V serise there is. Now the V3X is fater, Heavier, But i will say The V3x has over this is the fact it has a mem card and a 2mp camera. But thats all. SAMSUNG win every time much better Phones

this phone is absolutely amazimg. i have read evryone's comments regarding this phone. i would like to let you know that 90% of handsets now, will nt hold a charge of more than 4 to 5 days. especially this mdel and 90% of 3G phones. Yes, asung of all people should innnovate a battery that can hold a charge of longer than a day or two, but until they do... keep on chargin!! :)

I cannot fault this phone, I've had it a week, its brilliant, so many little features that make it great, the alarm that can be set to wake me everymorning except weekends with auto power up. I can email my Mum in the UK a video clip of me saying hello! the ring tones are good, I do not have a bad word to say about it, the key pad is fine! texting is easy, similar format to Nokias. I got it free from Telstra so cannot comment on Value for money. Cheers I reccomend you buy one of these Phones...and I do not work for Samsung :o)

Apple, if you read some of the comments you'll find along with me that most people think that the phone is fantastic. One MASSIVE complaint, is that the battery needs charging every 2 days or so with average use. Hopefully they will have a more durable lasting battery soon. (Yes in Australia the phone is available in white, check the Samsung Aussie website!)

I just received this phone, I have my own personal ringtone set and message tone set with ringing volume up to max. When receiving calls it rings loud, but when receiving messages it is very very quiet. Does anybody have this problem with their own message alert tones (message tones are in mmf format).

I got my phone Yesterday and been playing with it till now. Phone's Internal screen resolution is extra ordinary brillient (Thanx for Samsung) but two things annoying me a lot and I would sell it ASAP. First! external display swithced off after 3seconds and did not show any kind of display/Info (ie Time, Date, Missed calls or Message alert etc). Second! T9 dictionary option is on as default and can not be disabled. Also Keypad illumination is just white very simple.

Oh and to add to my review, has anyone else found that when you scroll up and down to check your text before you send it the phone for some reason changes words that the cursor passes through? Very odd and very annoying.

My opinion for anyone considering this phone>> I decided to opt for this as I thought video calls might be fun but I didn't want to carry a brick round with me, in that respect it is very slim and light. I do have some gripes though which may serve as a warning to others or which perhaps other people here could assist me with. I asked on expansys but got no response. There is no SMS dictionary, so when T9 fails to recognise an input [eg. it doesn't recognise 'I'll' as in 'I'll kill myself if I have to enter this manually one more time'] there is no option to save it to dictionary for use next time. Your favourite swearwords etc etc will always have to be entered from scratch. A real pain in the backside for anyway who texts a lot. When typing the message you need to watch the character counter, it doesn't do the rather handy SE thing of letting you know when you're say 20 characters away from going into the next SMS. Message finished and time to send, okay no choice of most recent recipients so click the D, search contacts, tick the box for the person you want and then hit add then wait a moment and then you're ready to send. All a bit laborious and not helped by the slightly laggy software. The keypad doesn't help, the keys need more pressure than you'd think so quite often you'll miss a keystroke. Last but not least when a message arrives clicking view doesn't view it, it just takes you to your inbox. I text a lot, if you don't none of this may bother you. The camera is not great, I have a good digital camera so it's not why I bought this phone but the quality is nowhere near as good as the camera on the SE K750i and the flash is so feeble as to be pointless, the rotating lens is not covered so I expect it to be coated with pocket fluff soon. The phone's centre of gravity is such that using it one handed is difficult too. My other major gripe so far, and one which perhaps someone can help with, is transferring files to it. I have attempted to bluetooth and USB transfer photos to it and it claims not to have space for them. Given I have most of the c.140meg free this really winds me up. The Samsung Studio software it comes with looks like it should make life a doddle but it doesn't and instead you end up p**sing about trying to crop images to fit and being told they exceed maximum file size. Also the battery life is poor, the first day I used it I managed to run the battery down, admittedly you're playing with it a lot then but even so I was surprised. It comes with a 'standard' battery, I haven't yet been able to find out if there's a higher capacity version available. Setting to 2G helps but it begs the question why you'd compromise yourself with a phone the design of which has obviously been restricted to allow 3G if you're going to then set it to 2G. Plus points? As a phone it works very well, sounds odd I know but the SE K750i had the lowest ear volume I'd ever encountered which meant on the street it was next to useless. This has a very high quality screen too, bright and sharp. The menu system is logical though the games are poor fare and it could do with a countdown timer in its applications [anyone know if I can get one from somewhere?]. The menu also seems quite shallow, less things to play with than I'm used to. It seems pretty well built but I have fears that the universal port cover on the side [power, handsfree, USB] will come off with repeated use. I kept it simply because I'm too lazy to go through the faff of changing things after transferring my number across from Vodafone to O2 at the same time but I couldn't hand-on-heart recommend it. I just got the z510 two days ago, and i have to say that if you send SMS often DO NOT EVER GET THIS PHONE! the SMS menu is HORRIBLE, its take forever to get anything done. I have never had this problem with Samsung before, but this is the WROST SAmsung menu ever, and its slow too. other than that it looks really good, and is well constructed. MP3 is cool

I have just bought the z510 from an o2 shop, flippin brilliant but one of the questions I asked was... does it do voice dialling... OH YES came the reply. Seems that was complete and utter rubbish then! Hmmm thanks o2 looks like they might be getting it back on Saturday! The XDA mini isn't 3G either, they sold me that before hand! Double grrrr. Can anyone recommend a fone that does it "all"? I need it to sync with outlook (diary) access the internet on 3g and enable voice dialling. heres a little bit of advice to anyone looking at gettin this phone...do not as it is actually sh**. had it for a month and the camera is broken, when writing texts it will think you havent pressed a button or have pressed it twice, and it often chooses not to send/recieve texts for no good reason. DO NOT GET THIS PHONE samsung have let me down

Please Help!!! someone. I have this phone and am trying to change my message tones. I have read the posts about changing the msg tone to mmf format, but even when i have mmf format i can only change my voice call or video call, there is no option about msg tones. Have scrolled through pages of comments. but can find nothing to answer my MMS question on the Z510. My g'friend bought it for herself. The O2 SIM is fine (tested in another handset), but the handset somtimes chooses not to receive MMS's. Also, whenever you take a picture and try to send as MMS, a msg appears "this media cannot be attached". Have tried all 4 picture sizes, but nothing. This is on top of the earlier issue that we had of getting the correct WAP/GPRS settings correct. Is it a simple handset settings things? Has anyone had similar issues? Can anyone help me? Thx,

Yes the phone can ring and vibrate at the same time, and to take a self pic use the up and down keys on the side of the phone to flip the picture.

Hi ! I get this phone for 2 days now and it's lovely. Besides that I have 2 questions: - When taking picture (self portrait) the phone does not flip the image. So my head is reverse and that's annoying. Do we have to flip the phone to take portrait or is there a special config somwhere ? What's strange is that is that when doing video call, the the phone flips the imgae to normal position ... - what's nice is to define tones for messages. But it seems that it's not allowed to use mp3 tones for msg. Only mmf formated one. I have transformed my mp3 to mmf, but the sound is too weak. Is there a way to control the volume for the msg sound or is there a way to put there mp3 ? You can use mp3 for ringtone, so why not for msg tone ?

How long does the battery actually last on this phone. I have a z500 and the battery life is about 2 days max I upgraded to nokia n70 and battery lasts for over a week. so it isn't that 3g phones battery lasts not very long. I believe its samsung

Appy, Thanks. I just figured that out last night. Voice calling on this phone means make a "voice" call, not a "video" call, not "voice dial". I used it a lot with my RAZR while using my bluetooth headset. I just had to put those numbers on speed dial and deal with it. Other than that, it is far superior to the RAZR in every way.

I upgraded to this phone and it wouldnt charge properly,it would stop after a few mins and I had to unplug it and plug it back in for it to charge again,eventually it got so bad I sent it back and got another one only for it to have the same fault so I sent it back and got another one and to my dismay this one did the same and after having it a day it went really warm to touch and the battery drained within 5 mins and turned itself off, needless to say I returned that one too this all happened over 3 weeks. I was gutted as I really like samsung phones and have had a D500 for 16 months now and havent had a problem with it once. The Z510 is a lovely looking phone and when it works its great only I wouldnt recommend it. There is no way it can just be me with 3 faulty ones can it????

To dipzter You might find the problem is the 3G clock update. A lot of 3G phone seem to have this problem with the clock jumping time. I would try turning the 3G off and just using it on 2G for a wile, That should fix your clock problem.

To JT The reason you cant find voice dial is because this phone does not have voice dial, Not many samsungs these days do.. I think the d800 has Voice dial but this one doesnt.

Got the phone first faulty cover screen not working unless you put pressure on it phone hangs up when I talking. I am thinking it must have a loose connection. Battery life sucks 1 day max with mp3 and internet usage. Might swap for Sony w800 or w900i for 3g

hi,had my phone 5 weeks now,the phone is brill,but the past week my phone has had lost 15 mins in time,within 3 days,changed it to the correct time,and its lost 15 mins again.went to the shop to exchange it,they said they've never heard of that and looked at me strange,also saying because i've had the phone past the 28 day period,i couldn't exchange it and they would send it away to be repaired,and it would take upto 4 weeks,and they wouldn't give me a replacement phone,not happy at the moment,can somebody let me know if there is another way around it,i need my phone for work can't be without it for a month.

Flimsy and creaky plastic back cover. Brought a Z510 a couple of weeks ago. This is my 3rd Samsung phone, and have used basically every other major brand in the past decade. Up until buying this Z510, I was extremely happy with Samsung build quality on my earlier Samsungs. However has been disappointed with the build quality of this Samsung. The other Samsungs were rock solid, no creaks whatsoever, however the back cover of the Z510 has an annoying creak on pressing the keypad. The reason is a poor design decision by Samsung to use a flimsy bit of plastic for the back cover. WHY? Was very happy with my previous Samsungs which use the entire battery as the back. At the very least, the cover should be metal (as in the Moto RAZR) to avoid this design flaw. As most of the casing of the Z510 is metal; why not also the back cover?

I still think the software sucks. Why can�t I send a Message with 3 clicks. This is the feature I use most and it takes forever to get a message sent! Menu is bad in general.

The battery life on this phone is not great because its a 3G phone. Samsung say it should last 200 hours but this is if everything is diabled. All 3G phones have bad battery life because the advanced technology draws more power than standard GSM phones. If you dont use 3G services such as internet and video calling you can extend the battery life by 20-30% by disabling the 3G. To do this go to settings>network>network mode and choose GSM900/1800 instead of "automatic".

FOA: Mims There is no question about this. Last year I worked for Carphone Warehouse and I know the market very well. Samsung make suberb quality phones and I converted from Nokia when I joined the company. Having used Samsung, I will now never go back to Nokia. I have been using a D500 which is absolutely awesome as a phone. I'm not keen to part with it but it is time to upgrade. I checked out the D600 and it is rubbish. The build quality is so poor and the slide mechanism is awful. It has two saving graces, the expandable memory and the 2MP camera. However, this is not enough to redeem it. It does not have a patch on the D500 and the Z510 is superior too. The Z510 is a beautifully crafted bit of kit and is the slimmest phone on the market. 3G technology apart, it has slightly less features than the D600 however, the build quality is far superior and this is a major selling point. Personally, I think �G is a waste of time. The most important element of a phone is build quality and the Z510 has this in bucket loads. Go with the 510, you will not be disappointed.

Wondering if a samsung-savvy person could help me out with a bit of a dilemma... I'm having trouble deciding between this fone (Z510) and the D600. I'm usually a dead-set nokia supporter, but unfortunately their fones these days just don't compare. I'm obsessed with the flip, but I know the D600 has better features, like the card slot and the 2mp camera. Although... it doesn't have 3G capabilities, or the quick MP3 buttons on the front. Hmm. Another thing is that my dad and one of my best friends have either the D500 or D600, and it's kinda awkward if I steal their fone, ya know? It's not great to have a fone that EVERONE else has. I want opinions, I'm desperate... which would you choose in my situation?

Had my z510for 4 weeks now... i appear to be having problems with it not keeping time.. every 4 days or so its out by 10 minutes... in other words i have to reset the time on it every 5 days ... i've put it into the dealer under warranty to have a look at it for me.. how crap is this...otherwise good phone

Hi folks, I've been reading the opinions about the Z510 and they helped me to decide to get one - so thanks for that. Had mine for about 4 weeks now and am very pleased with it after a long search for "THE" upgrade that does eveything I would like it to do, but also looks nice. (Being a girl, this is very important to me. I tried 3 different handsets on the O2 network and they said this was my last chance so I HAD to get it right! lol) Anyway........I have a question, after searching on here, the Samsung website and I'm still stuck! (I've obviously read the manual and help files too). Does anybody know how to download a WMA file to the media player? I've tried using the PC Studio and it says that the file format is not supported! I've downloaded MP3's no problem and it's supposed to play WMA's, but it won't let me download them. (I have also checked that I have the most up to date software for the PC Studio) I'd appreciate any ideas.........Thanks a million.

The minimum amount of clicks after composing a message is five , but there are at least 3 to get there so that makes a grand total of 8. And this is using all the tricks and shortcuts available. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.If you go the long route it might take 12 or more. I guess I�ll have to go back to my primitive Motorola and Samsung as lost me as a customer.

i must first say great phone . compare to my last phone z800 the key pad is much better. the battery life on this phone need to go back to the drawing board . i charge my phone friday night around 10.00pm and by monday about 2.00 pm the battery was low so low that went off .now is not good at all. is there a better battery for this phone. my z800 lasted almost 1 week . it look like i will have to come back to my sony errison z800

The minimun number of clicks needed to send a message after you compose it is 5. Just press the middle button to skip some useless clicks. If you dont use the 3G service in order to save battery energy go to settings>network>network mode and choose GSM900/1800 instead of "automatic". To Alaram, I have the same problem as Melvin, I am used to writting a message and sending it. With my old Motorola this was a 3 step process. Here I think it takes 10 or more. I thought this phone was more advanced than a Motorola... I have tried setting the shortcut you said but it still takes many steps to send the message. Am I missing something? I still think the software sucks. Please tell me what is the minimum cliks to send a message as I have given up on this phone and will probably go back to my old Motorola if I can�t resolve this problem.

you cannot set mp3 as message alert tone. has to be a .mmf tone. i wish it would display the number you are calling while calling like my old SE. currently have to press extra key strokes to know what number you are calling.

I just got my Z510 and think it's a fantastic phone, i have been playing with it for 2 days now and have just 1 question. I recorded my daughter singing goodbye my lover :) she's 7 as a sound and cannot figure out how to assign it as my ringtone. I have moved it to Ringtones folder and said move was successful but when i go to change my ringtone it is not in there???? would love it if someone could help me please.

Hey, I just got this phone about 2 weeks ago.. so far I really like it and no regret! thin, compact, rich in features, cool in black colour 'n many more. it's the best 3G phone i've ever had. I'd personally recommend this to anybody who after this phone.. but, there are just a few things that I doubt. 1. the alarm sound (a bit loud, but nvm, i dont use much of the alarm feature anyway) 2. battery goes flat faster than it suppose to be (i charged it every 2 days even i didnt use much). does any of you have the idea about this? is this normal?

I was in a mobile store today and they had a demo of the Z510. When i opened and closed the phone i noticed that the demo seemed to "click" into its closing position and when you opened it you had to apply a tiny bit of pressure to open it. I noticed this when i opened the V3 and it opened easily. I just want to know if the real Z510s open easily or they have this little "click in" feature (the guy at the store wouldnt show me a real one..) Thanks!

TWO BUGS IN THE Z510: It is impossible to write "you're" in a text message without changing to 'abc' mode, rather than T9. When the phone's battery goes flat, it resets the message on the outer screen to "Hello".

This phone kicks the v3's ass! Sure, they look the same but the samsung has so many more features! e.g it has a 1.3 mega pixel camera as the v3 does not have any mega pixels!!!!!!! Hi it's Melvin again you still have to click "Create Message", "Text Message", write the thing, go through a list, and then select who you want to send and click "Add" and then click confirm and then click send! I wish you could just click "New Message" write it, find the person and click send..

great looking mobile phone that is simple to use, great camera and great screens (both) however i have read a few of the other comments and yes it does take a while to send a msg however instead of using the actual send button you can simply press the middle circle button which skips all the other mumbo jumbo...to a degree. lol Is a good phone, cool video calls as well :D

Just got one of the unlocked TIM phones and I am impressed. Got to be the lightest 3G phone around and works great as a USB modem on the 3G vodafone network. Extend battery life by switching off UTMS when not needed. Highly recommended phone

I think it is a good phone just like all samsung phones, however on the d600 you cant have anything for your message tone, you only get about 10 to choose from. On my nokia I had you can personalise it to something you have downloaded, if you get what I mean?...

So from what i've read, it CAN ring and vibrate at the same time which is good, but can you play an mp3 in the background? eg listen to an mp3 while sending an sms?

Mate this is a LITHIUM battery - get with the times! Lithium batteries do not have memory, and therefore you do not have to 'set' the memory in the initial charge. Where did you get '16' hours from? Why 16? Where in the manual does it offer this advice? Welcome to the 21st century! I was initially disappointed with the z510's battery life - but since then it's been great. Must have been all the games and photos I was playing around with!

nREE, There is nothing wrong with the phone. The battery works perfectly as long you charged it 16 hrs (first initial charging). Most of us here are quite excited to sue the phone after we bought it from the shop. Well I don't - I will always make sure that I charged the battery properly so I can enjoy using the phone without any hiccups. I have been a Nokia and SE person for quite a long time. First time that I have decided to buy a different brand which is not that popular name when it comes to mobile phones. Truly, I was amazed of the features, realibility and the durability of this phone. Samsung phones are not far behind when it comes to technology compared to Nokia, Motorola and SE. Buy a new battery and make sure you charge your battery for 16 hrs before using them.

I received this phone from O2 few days ago, first impression is very good, it is a high quality phone and yes it is the slimmest 3G unit so far. My only problem is the battery life, according to Samsung's official figures it should last 8 days in stand-by mode, My phone runs out of charge after a day and a half only. It could be a battery issue but I find it dissapointing. I may have to replace it with a SE w810. Sony have astonishing battery life, I experienced this with a K750i Regards

I like Samsung phones I prefer it to Nokia I think Samsung phones are durable (feature packed) and pretty to look at and I don't see the Z510 being any different its a pity my service provider refuses to stock any of the "latest" Samsung's so when upgrade time comes I'll most likely take the z500 the z130 is too big plus I want a flip but hopefully they'll have more then just 2 3g phones(Samsung) available by the next 2-3 months doubtful though to gaz Hi as you may have deduced I don't have the z510 but most of the Samsungs are basically the same where something's are concerned so bear in mind some discrepancies on this particular model this might fix u messaging problem go to msg then go to settings then go to text msg current profile there's normally two the one is your service providers the other is just setting 2 or nr whatever that's usually been the problem when I couldn't sms anybody

MESSAGE ALERT VOLUME TOO QUIET? I've seen quite a few posts about the message alert volume being too quiet if you use a special tone. For some strange reason, it seems that the Z510 slowly ramps the volume up over a few seconds when using a mmf file for the tone. Obviously if you're only using a short tone it will be over before the volume reaches maximum. The answer is to insert a few seconds of silence at the beginning of your file. Not a very elegant solution and rather wasteful of memory, but it does get over the problem! Hope this helps.

There is a distinct different between the v3 and the v3i.. and There is even a Bigger Different between the V3(i)'s and the Z510. If you realised.. Z510 is a 3G and it's also the slimmest 3G phone ever... Good design though. The Camera Of the Z510 is rotatable while the V3(i)'s are Fixed... I agree it's a shame that the camera is only 1.3MP and the memory is not expandable.. But i reckon Samsung is just pulling off some Magic trick so they can do a something like samsung Z510i which has expandable memory and better camera quality.. But oh wells.. i'm happy with what i have now!

What a dissapointment. The screen is really nice but the software sucks. Do I really need so many steps to send a message? I am now trying to use the bluetooth to pair to my other devices, terrible is all I can say. Nice looking package but don`t look too deep.

Hi I am very happy with this phone. It is stylish and has intuitive menus and shortcuts. The camera is very clear. I wish the list of text messages in your inbox would show more than three at a time (although it shows the start of the message which is nice). I wish you could set ALL the text (menus and everything) to be smaller since the screen resolution is so high but it's okay as is. The phone doesn't keep up with really really quick messaging either it seems. The predictive text engine is really good though. Yeah I am really happy with it!

thanks for the info about speakerphone, yet another cool feature I didn't know about this phone. As for the keys lighting up, the screen is so bright you don't need them to light up. And its not like this will be the first phone u ever own, so you should pretty much know where all the keys are anyway.

I saw videos from D600 in the PC screen. They are in a 352 X 288 resolution and looking amazing, without interrupts and very clear even in fast mooved scenes. I read that Z510 has only a 176 X 144 video resolution. That makes me very sad. Why??? Anyway i like this pone for the design and it 's features and i think to buy it. Can any one tell me about the video quality when is watched in the pc screen? Maybe can someone send to me a (short) example video clip via e-mail? Thanks

i posted before about the media player not working properly...i have recently found out it only happens after sending a text/call and recieving a balance reply from o2 (im on pay & go). just wondering if anyone knows how to turn these replies off? other than that this phone really does rock

The phone has a speakerphone - all you need to do while talking on the phone press the middle button and it will ask you if want the speakerphone ON. I hope this will help. This phone is awesome!!!

A few comments and some questions answered. For starters I've had this phone for 3 weeks now, and no probs whatsoever (can't say the same about my former SonyEricsson w550i which was riddled with software problems) To answer a few of the previous questions. This phone does NOT have expandable memory... but 140MB is ample for mp3s. This phone does NOT have speakerphone, but is by far the best phone i've ever used in a crowded place (club, pub, etc) very clear to hear voice, etc. This phone DOES ring and vibrate at the SAME TIME! Unlike a lot of old samsung phones which do not. And it also vibrates with a message tone. MP3s CAN be used as ringtones without any conversion. Just use the USB cable and you're away! Camera is only 1.3MP but is quite good (much better than the 1.3mp I had on my old SonyEricsson). Records video + sound aswell. To my knowledge you can't change the colour of the menus, but it seems fine to me anyway. I only have 2 issues with this phone so far : 1: Cannot adjust volume of the alarm tone, the default tones that come with the phone are horrible. My solution was to add my own mp3 file that slowly increases in volume and use that as my alarm tone. 2: I cannot find a way to install new game files on the phone. It doesn't recognise .jar or .jad or .zip files. If anyone knows if this is possible or of how to do this. I would be very happy to share the hundreds of games I have.

You all never stop going on about Mobile Phones defects, so what?, ya all should know better that nothing is perfect, anyway,i went to 02 Shop, and had a demonstation of Z510 and i fell in love with it, planning to get it next week, but does it have flash led?, althought i don't see one, but is it a line on the front while phone is closed, and i wonder how long the phone's talk time when the 3G / UMTS is switched on?

I've come down from a pda phone to the z510. It is a great phone. Using half its memory to store 167 mp3's at 400kb per song. If you have more contacts than that - heck you can assign ringtones per contact. The mmf message tones are standard - go make your own and have fun! I would have expected for the phone to be locked but I've put another sim (work's) in there and works fine. Watch file sizes and canvas size for jpegs. Watch file sizes for mp3s also. Let's not forget they are phones - not powerlaptops :)

Hi. just got this phone two days ago from o2...all seemed to work fine but the mp3 player broke. it would play with it on mute but not when the volume was turned up. also when accessing a game in silent mode it asks "play sound in silent mode?". If answer yes it doesnt, if no it does, ie it does the opposite of what you ask for volume wise. I got o2 to replace the phone but the second one has exactly the same problem. Has anyone else had this problem? and if so how can it be fixed? ps restoring factory settings is no help. Cheers

Need help, I have some little icon blinking non-stop beside the audio icon. It's not sms message (or mms), those come on top of screen... it's next to audio icon on the right. I've looked the whole manual and that icon is not even inside it. Anyone else has that problem?

My Z510 browser has gone south, the phone restarts when I try to connect to any wap/html site. Seems unfixable without resetting the phone. Be aware of this problem, if anybody else has had it and fixed it, pls let me know how. Johan

I've been a nokia user forever and finally thought it was time to change. I'm so glad i did!! I've had this phone for 2 weeks now and it is awesome. It looks and feels amazing. Great Camera, MP3 player, and video calling is cool. The GUI is also very good. Plus if you turn off 3G/UMTS (SETTINGS -> NETWORK -> NETWORK MODE), the battery lasts about 4-5 days. One question tho... Does anyone know how to change the colour of menus? Is the default blue/white the only choice? My girlfriend had a T100 a couple of years ago and you could change the menu colour to one of six colours. Thanks

To John63 and others. To get the clock on the front (small) display to show, you must press the media buttons on the front panel for some time (about 3~5 seconds) until either the clock shows or until the "Unlock?" prompt appears (if you have the keyguard on).

This applies to old Nickel Cadmium batteries NOT Lithium Ion/Polymer, even though phone shops still tell you this... Lithium batteries do not trickle charge, as over charging them would kill them.... Essentially lithium batteries hold 100% of their charge on the first charge and should be topped up regularly. Leaving on charge for 16 hours will make no difference, as the phone will cut off the charge when the battery is full to prevent damage to the battery.

You can shut off UMTS. You can shut of automatic search and choose,for instance, to use 900/1800 network.

There's no way that you can shut off the UTMS. I don't have a problem with my battery. First initial charging you should charge the battery for 16 hrs without any interruptions but I guess most of us here are so eager to use the phone at once. It should be wise to buy an extra battery as a spare if you happen to be a heavy user.

Very good phone so far, had it for 3 days only. (its only been out in Australia for 2 weeks) I upgraded from my SE W550i because it had too many problems (back to the repair shop more than twice!) This phone has a great large, bright screen. Very decent 1.3MB camera, and ample memory 140mb. The mp3's play loud and the music player function is just as good if not better than the Sony Ericsson Walkman phone I had before. The only problem is I like to play games too, and so far I haven't been able to find a way using my usb cable to upload games onto this phone. I will repost if I find a way. It would have been good if it charged while on usb cable but that's not that big an issue. the 3G capabilities are also excellent. Without a doubt the best phone I've had to date.

OK, I'll be more constructive... What about mms or email, they should be virtually unlimited in lengh and far cheaper than sending 20 sms on most tariffs unless you are on 3 or o2 online tariffs with loads of free sms. Note o2 online lets you use text allowance for mms too. Another thought, is there a limiter in the settings. i'm sure on my phone I can turn off long sms. Just a thought.

We run an online business, and work abroad a lot of the time, as in one of us is in Scotland, one of us is wherever-else in the world, and we LIKE sending long messages to each other, particularly if we are having to explain sales etc. on a daily basis. Why on earth would you want to send an SMS with 1836 characters. It's supposed to be a short message service, it would take a while to type a message that long... I thought I was picky. Anyone else here send long messages more the 6 joined, or even 2 for that matter!

I love this phone and have had it just under a week, but need to ask everybody who has one a question. We're in Scotland in the UK. We originally bought this, as Samsung pride themselves on all their latest phones being able to send and receive Contacenated Text (strings of messages linked up to be sent or received as one) and with ALL the last few phones they have brought out, this has been set to supporting up to 1836 character sending and receiving. This is something we found great about the D600, which only falls down becauswe you have to stick to the AWFUL SMS alerts tones, and can't change them. That problem is addressed realy well in the Z510, so we thought we at last had the ideal phone, although I CANNOT get the volume to be loud enough when the text comes in. When you play the Special Tone you have set for SMS alerts through the player, it sounds really loud and is perfect, but every time someone texts me, the thing is so soft I can barely hear it. Anyone have any ideas on this problem? OK, main issue: Now, my Sim-free Z510 only supports 918 character (a string of 6 messages) sending in a text, and Samsung told me on the phone that this is a fault, as it 100% should be sending a string of 12 messages (1836 characters) so please can someone else post the maximum characters their Z510 allows them to text OUT (phone still receives 1836 charaters as one message with no problem) as Samsung want to take mine back for repair. Samsung tried to say it might be a network restriction, until I shut them up by telling them we had tried an o2, Vodafone AND Orange sim in it, and it still only allowed sending of 918 characters. So folks, how many does your Z510 support, as the Samsung guy really got quite heated telling us the phone has GOT to send and receive up to 1836 characters, in ANY normal text. Look forward to seeing the responses to this. Thanks so much.

Hi I got this phone last Friday and so far thinks its very good. With regard to email, I contacted O2 on Monday, they had to get someone from data support to ring me back, he then went through the settings with me (he used D600 settings)and the email is working fine on my phone. Also, message tones, you have to convert your MP3 to WAV format on your PC then convert using the Yamaha prog mentioned in other messages to mmf format then you can set these as message alerts. Hope these help.

Re: Michelle - MSG tones What format is your tones at the moment? MMF? Midi? Mp3? If any of these, then you don't need to further convert. Just transfer them into your phone with the supplied USB cable. Have you installed the PC Studio software? There's a utility that allows you to transfer files to your phone. Transfer the files into the phone's ringtones or music directory. From your phone: Menu -> Settings -> Profiles Select Options -> Edit Scroll down to "Msg.alert tone" Select "Special Tone" Press Options -> Change Find the file you just coped over. Remember to save all changes and DONE!

Re: Mike - Bluetooth Did you switch the bluetooth into pairing mode? Depending on which headset you're using. Hold the call button while switching on your headset. It should blink differently. Check your manual...

I recently bought the Z510 and so far it's ok. I like the design and the overall look of the phone but the only downside is the keypad. Its a little hard to send SMS. If they made the keys like the Z300 (they click easier), it would have a nicer feel and you wouldn't have to try so hard to type. If they do decide to make a model that supersedes this, please make sure the keypad is better. For 3G, its great for video streaming and surfing. I'm totally loyal to samsung for making great phones that are wonderfully designed and functional too! Go Samsung!

I don't have a Samsung phone, so all my comments are supposition. Another post implied that you can use mp3 as message tones, which would make more sense. The MMF format is primarily for MIDI. Once you have the mp3 you want to convert on your computer via cable or bluetooth you need something to convert it to WAV or AIFF ie. uncompressed audio so that the sound decorator can read it. I used quicktime pro to test my theroy, and I posted a step by step guide to this. Sorry I can't be more help. I am interested in the phone myself, but noone has replied if it can do graphical similes in SMS like Sony Ericsson phones.

Hi Neil, I hope you can help me. I got the Samsung Z510 on Friday and all weekend I have been trying to see if I like it. Only thing I don't like is the message tones you only get 4 crappie ones. Anyway I have been trying to follow your instructions but to be honest I don't have a clue about converting. Can you give me instructions for a dummy cause if I don't manage to change my message tone(I got some cool ones downloaded) there is no point keeping it. I know it seems trivial but when I seen your message on this site I knew they could be changed so I went ahead and got the phone. I have downloaded the sound decorator from the Yamaha site but I don't know what to do now. Do I need to bluetooth the mp3 ringtones to my computer onto windows media player? With regards to POP3 email problem on O2-UK. Have you contacted O2 Data Support, they are in the UK and have been very helpful in the past... Only contactable via email but they do reply. o2datasupport @ o2.com I assume Mobile Web is enabled on your SIM card, I think this is the default now.

Does anybody know how to get the email of the Samsung Z510 to work with POP 3 on o2 UK? At the moment even o2 themeselves do not know how to get it to work. If you set it up using the settings supplied by o2, each time you try to download your emails the error message is: "service not available" even though most of the time I am in a good signal area. I just bought this phone the other day and it's awsome. The only downside is the Telstra icon which is embedded on the phone and the document viewer such as an excel document which you could hardly read them. Is there a way to make it visible to read? Let me know please. Btw, to assign your mp3 ringtones to your phonebook - you need to place your contacts save on your phone not on your sim card otherwwise it won't work. O2 UK does not support delivery reports via phone options, but it does if you add *0# to the start of your text. That is star zero hash at the start of the message. This in an annoying feature of the O2 network, you think they'd sort this as phones they sell have the delivery report options in phone menus. Does the Z510 do inline graphical smilies in texts like your SonyEricsson?

Hi, I work for O2 and can confirm that O2 don't support delivery reports. This is a network feature and not determined by the handset. You can try typing *0# at the beginning of the txt (then leave a space before the rest of the text)to receive delivery reports.

I believe this phone is only available on o2 at the moment in UK. I previously had SE W800i on o2 and was amazed that I could not receive delivery reports for text messages. I was told that this is the case on all phones on o2. Can anyone confirm this ?

@ unknown: Can't understand why Samsung release 1.3 mp phones? Why do a lot of other brands still release vga camera's? I was just reacting to the opinion that said you should not buy Samsung or V3, but go for the BenQ. He said for instance, something about better materials, so I wanted to point out of what material the Z510 is made. Indeed it's all a matter of taste, cause I don't like the way the BenQ looks. We should all buy what we like.

I can't understand why samsung are still releasing phones with 1.3 MP cameras ? This phone doesn't relly offer anything new. In fact it's a step back from the D600 which has been around for some time now! Rob , the EF81 might be 1mm thicker than Z510 but it is 5mm shorter & 1mm less in width. It also has a 2MP camera and is also built from Magnesium, Aluminium, Stainless Steel and Mineral Glass! It also has a memory card slot. On top of all this it also looks much nicer and if the figures are to believed has a better battery life. No competition as far as i"m concerned but every one has there own taste. Z560 and Z710 look good Samsung phones but this one is just run of the mill. I beleive it's only available on o2 at the moment who's 3G coverage is very limited.

I'd like to add something regarding batterylife. I dont use BT and with normal use(the first days is only experimenting)rings and sms, it last's about aprox 5 days. Okay for me. BTW; I live in Holland(The Netherlands)and I too, only got one battery. Samsung.com says there should be 2 included in the pakkage?????

Before you read further this isn't a post about comparing the Z510 with the V3 or any other phone. I use my phones as phone and I don't care about memory, MP3s or polyphonic ringtones and downloads. Anyway, it seems that many people are asking about basic things about the Z510, like battery life, and not getting answers (apart from a few). I purchased one of these from Telstra in Australia a week ago and after some false starts with BlueTooth headsets, I love it!. The problem with the BT was with the BlueAnt X3's. They don't seem to work well with the Z510, but the Netcom/Samsung WEP150 & the BlueAnt Supertooth II work OK). Whilst the battery life isn't as great as my old phone (Nokia), I wouldn't go back. I found out (by accident) that I get about 2 days without charge with LIGHT usage. Now, since I use BT and mobiles heavily, I find the little battery inadequate. I'm going to buy another battery to keep around (it seems the Aussie packs only have 1 battery :(. I also expect that the battery life figures quoted on 200 hours (standby) are with the phone with BT turned off, I just can't see it lasting 8 days before needing a feed.

BenQ better material than Z510? They both are made of magnesium material. The Z510 is 14.9mm thin and the BenqQ 15.9 mm.The Samsung weighs less than the BenQ.(97 gr.-110gr.) I own the Z510 for a week now, and am very pleased with it! Great display, and it looks and feels divine.This is the best phone I ever had! (after Nokia's and SE's)Due to it's material, it has class.

Yamaha offer 5 different chip sets, you can see which your phone has here: MA-1 / MA-2 / MA-3 / MA-5 / MA-7 The Z500 is listed and is MA-5, likely the Z510 is also MA-5 The Convertors section converts to MA-1 (MIDI) or MA-2 (WAV/AIFF) - this is lower quality sound. The Wave Sound Decorator (WSD) converts WAV/AIFF to MA-2 / MA-3 and MA-5. Convert mp3 to mmf ============= 1. Converted your mp3 to aiff or wav (I used Quicktime Pro)settings 44.1khz (44100hz) / 16bit / stereo 2. I opened in the Wave Sound Decorator. 3. Your told sampling frequencies over 24000hz not supported, and it offers to resample. 4. Press resample. 4. Choose 24000 and mono. 5. Select MA-5 6. Select save. Only MA-5 supports this quality sound file. That's it! Hopefully it plays as I don't have a samsung phone yet, there is a SMAF player on the Yamaha site you can download also.

.MMF = SMAF which is a Yamaha codec. Anyway they offer free WAV/AIFF - SMAF (MMF) and MID - SMAF (MMF) programs on their site. Available for Mac and PC. Just tested the WAV/AIFF convertor on my Mac and it works fine!

I am very interested in this phone, but I would be moving from a SonyEricsson which are generally regarded to have the best user interface. Anyway from what I read the Samsung interface it not that bad, unlike Motorola! but there are a couple of features missing in what I would think is a high end phone... 1. No EMS support 2. No wireless village support Now I believe non Zxxx Samsung phones have both these features. Which are you more likely to do? 1. Send an EMS 2. Use the wireless village IM client 3. Make a video call Well I think most people will discount the video call, but that is the only feature out of the 3 supported...

The Samsung website states the sales package has 2 batteries in it, therefore if the phones on eBay are not scams they have probably taken 1 battery out to sell separately.

i own this phone and have to say im very happy with my choice, if i had to pick anything it would be no expendable memorey, ~150MB is a decent amount, i can still compress half a dozen american dad episodes and play them back on there as well as some songs with room to spare so it isnt a dire problem, and also the battery life, at the moment im only getting about 2 days out of it, although its new and i am using it quite abit, i hope this will improve in time. i work in a phone shop and see what else comes and goes, and for me this is as good as it gets atm. build quality is fantastic, menu and ease of use i cant fault, weight is perfect, the screen is so bright and easy to see, the fonts and just the whole lay out of the menus and home screen is perfect. i had a V3 before this and its true that they look very simular and thats one reason why i got it, it looks sh*t hot and everything that made the V3 a good phone the Z510 has in it and its not a motorola wich is the most important thing :D, i guess the camera could be alittle better and the flash brighter also, but im serious when i say that this is the best phone ive used in the last 6months if not longer. the included software also deserves a mention, everything from the file & sync manager to the message manager are faultless also, it would have been nice if it charged while it was connected via the data cable. in reply to the last post theres a free proggy that lets you convert mp3s into mmf to use as the msg tone on phone, its called Mobile Music Polyphonic or MMPoly

And Yeeeeeeeesssss it does ring and vibrate at the same time. Also optioning to have music as sms tones, which was my other issue with Samsung. Only thing is that they have to be in .mmf file format. So go find a converter on the net to switch those mp3s

i just ordered one Z510. Got it at a great price, it is not sim locked, got a free b/tooth head set, and a few other extra's from Telstra, and I am only paying $300 for it. Not only that, but it is compatible with any sim networked card around the world, so i can send it to US/UK and still call home.

i've just been reading some of the pages of comments about the comparison btw this phone and the v3 - who copied who, who came first with thin phones etc. i guess i'm kinda thinking, who cares? samsung have released a thin phone, just like motorola, and i'm sure that most the other manufacturers will soon follow suit. it's the specs that will make the difference, and although i did buy the phone partly because of its design and similarity to the v3, the specs (bigger memory, better camera, 3G capability) was what won me over more than anything. and i think that's what needs to be remembered! just my two cents worth :)

got this fone today, absolutely love it! have been in love with v3 design for ages, but have agonised about getting one as i really dislike motorola and their set up. so when i saw this was thrilled! only major irk i have with it is that it contains telstra (australia) software, and i'm with vodafone. anyone know if a software upgrade is possible to set the phone back to it's original format (without telstra settings in it)? anyone thinking about this fone DEFINATELY GET IT, v.cool :)

Nice to see these are shipping now, I am looking at getting this phone when available in the UK. I have a couple of questions. 1. What is the battery life like, especially on 3G... The Samsung site does not states whether their specs are 2G or 3G, but I imagine 2G.... Am concerned than on 3G it might be unusable, hence 2 batteries supplied. 2. Can you lock to 2G only to save battery. 3. Does it support EMS, spec does not state it. ie. animations/emoticons in normal texts.

The Samsung Z510 phone is a perfect blend of style, beauty, and performance. Quite pricey at first release, but may be well worth the wait. It has interesting features such as 3G technology, Bluetooth 2.0, 1.3 MP Camera w/video, and UMTS. The only drawback is that it has only 138 MB of shared memory for storage, and no card slot available. This may be enough for most consumers, but it may be the only lacking difference for the high-end user. My unit came from an Italian provider, and is loaded with TIM pre-flashed software. Manual and informative material only comes in Italian. But if you are technically savvy, you can manage figuring out the functions from prior experience and Samsung "know-how". Overall, this phone can outperform its competitor with wonderful audio and video qualities that Samsung is well renowned for. Break away from the traditional mold and locate one for yourself to use right away...It's incredible and will definitely turn lots of heads!!

After using for couple of days the new Samsung Z510 (3G, same design as V3i), STRONGLY reccomends it. Currently, the very few available are TIM and come with European spec and it will be helpful if you speak Italian to read the manuals. IT WILL BE THE MOTOROLA V3i/V3x MAIN competitor and it can give them a run for their money!!

Ha ha..I am not very sure..Maybe I'm not the aesthetic sensitive kind of person but there is just so much difference between the two ESPECIALLY on the insides...From what I can see this phone is much thinner and with tons more feature. I am not so sure what makes this phone a rip off of v3 especially there is a rotating camera located on the center and this is a 3G handset. Designs are very sensitive issue and each person's view differs from one to another. You are right in your posts but only to yourself and not everybody agrees with you. These phones are so thin because they have the ability to manufacture it and not any other thing else. Like you said, it is only aesthetics and it will not stop others from buying this phone. So why comment that it is a rip off in the first place?

Samsung presented design-wise an excellent combination between Motorola V3i (no 3G) and V3x (thick) in a package called Samsung Z510. It has an excellent LCD, it is VERY slim and it is a 3G with many other goodies. In the box it comes with 2 batteries. As http:\www.soundtech.com.cy started selling this product since yesterday we have noticed a great demand. Since we are selling a lot of V3 and V3i we are sure this mobile will be head on with V3i. We will see who will be the winner (most likely in USA Motorola and in the rest of the war Samsung). PLEASE when someone has something intelligent, positive or negative comment about a specific model to let everybody else know. Software and hardware problems are very important. So, please stop posting childish comments.

Samsung maximising on other manufacturers designs again. The D500 was a siemans slider rip off and this being one of the Moto V3. Looks great from the outside but disappointing open. the screen looks small too and the camera's only 1.3mp, for a new phone that's quite low.

It is good that we make efforts to comment on a product characteristics. However, to certain people whom only knows how to complaint i.e. 'there is no memory / the phone is ugly when opened...blah blah blah' we can make the world a better place by keeping ourselves quiet. As everybody knows out there, there is simply no perfect handset when everybody's tastes are so diverse. Suprised nobody has compared this to the LG P7200 since thats what it resembles to me more than a V3. Anyway this phone looks good closed but damn tacky when opened. This phones major downside is NO CARD SLOT. It has an MP3 player and megapixel camera but no SD card slot.

for those who say this ph is a clone of v3, you'd want to change ur mind only if get to see the actual phone. yeah they are both what so called slim phone but z510 gives a full image of slick phone while v3 only gives u a sharp image. technically speaking z510 wins in pretty much every aspect even compared with v3i. personally I also love the look of v3 but it's just to hard to press buttion and hold the ph. overall this may not look as business as v3 but I'd defintely choose this one.

So you bought V3 Black, didn't you? In case you haven't, I took the liberty of doing that. 8 months ago. It sucks. Big time. No remedies for illnesses of V3, no memory (5 MB doesn't begin to count), software breaking up in various spots (yes, breaking up 'cause I actually use the features of my phone), battery wasted in under 2 days ... Oh yes, the package was cool - bluetooth set, leather bag, the keychain .. but I get this in from hosts of suppliers in UK who do it for every phone not only Moto. With apologies for flooding the forum, I hope you V3 pros will spare us who are at least trying to be objective of all your "who was first" and "original / copy" blabla with no end? I bought Z510 today 450 EUR, unlocked. The box had the phone, fine leather bag, bluetooth headset, stereo headset, bracelet, keychain, CD with software for PC operation and control and the Instruction Manual. 12 months warranty as well. Not bad for a copy, right. It does hurt to look at my wife's (formerly mine) V3 which I can sell for under 150 EUR if I try hard. Explaining what I feel looking at almost identical phones in shape but completely different worlds inside is not for this forum. It is for me to get mad at myself every day. Z510 is simply a good phone, no particular flaws, not an outstanding piece but at least 16455 times better than the V3 in aspects of memory, conforming the phone for a business user, accessing menus, ending the conversation (I used to be forced to press 5-6 times the red key just to cut the friggin conversation on a V3!!). Finally, I do drive a Mercedes Benz, station wagon. And find the V3 more akin to VW. Jetta. Whereas the Z510 is a Lexus in all actuality. Apologies for flooding. Won't be writing ever again, cheers!

Your right about in features wise that this phone is better then the v3 but you have to admit that not only samsung but many other companies are copying the v3 in looks & design wise. Well theres always a company to start off the design and a bunch of other companies copys. But like many people reckon this phone is like a copy of the v3 in looks. I understand when people say that as technology improves phones get thinner, but you can clearly see its a similar design to the v3 no doubt about it. Also the thinner mobile designing line started with motorola so people say other companies are copying motorola arent all that wrong. Well just my opinion. This Samsung phone is alright, not all the best but its better then a standard phone of course.

dear all, pls make a difference between this model and moto's V3. this is fully functional piece of phone, as opposed to V3's software adventures. I know several people owning and struggling with V3, experiencing different software design faults. if you are into open - source fiddling with your machine, V3 can be significantly improved (like actually being possible to see the same name receiving a message AND a call, shooting videos, globally setting delivery reports and similar - anybody who used a moto knows that their good hardware allways comes with semi-functional or undeveloped software), but still there are some hardware limitations, like the amount of memory and a poor camera. yes, moto is obviously nicer, especially the keypad, but this design is prone to damages, as it uses a kind of AIR PILLOW beneath the keys - beware of your angry SMS replies :-) and, no, I don't think motorola patented a SLIM CLAMPSHELL, as I do not think that ford patented a 4 wheel car - as technology gets more powerfull, the phones will be thinner, people more healthy, nature more sick, and there is no single person or a company to take responsebillity or credits for that. please point your comments on how this phone works and on it's good and weak sides, leave V3 for moto's forum. love, thanks, enjoy...

Yeah the design and spec is relatively similar to the V3i but to me thats like saying 'nokia can't do flip phones because samsung did them first'. It is not just the apperance of the phone, as a personal preference I find the samsung operating systems far more user friendly that motorola. It is just prodiving more choice to the market.

hey guys, Samsung is demonstrating that they have the technology to embed megapixels and multimedia features to a slim phone. Samsung do not want motorola to monopolize this field because only samsung and motorola has this technology and they have this edge toward nokia and sonyericsson,etc. This should be a healthy competition, and we will have the many option. Anyway, samsung has launch slim phone on all forms (slim slider, slim folder and slim bar phone).
