Sony Xperia 5 - User Reviews

  • Are you sure you love the big curved cut off screen? You love the reflective and slippery waterfall big curved edge? Are you love the variety notch designs? Almost all flagship nowadays suffer one or two or all from this ugly/useless design. All these gimmick only ruin your beautiful display, I don't see you saying it is ugly but your display got a big cut off at the corner and various notch protruding top of the screen and massive reflection from the huge curve edge, these doesn't wake you up!? ...

  • honestly sony phones are the ugliest ones, sadly i really want to love them but the price and the look...

  • Sony needs to improve on the audio department. Always has low music volume level!!!!!!

  • " And each person knows their needs/wishes, so some will find that Sony suits their needs" Unfortunately, wrong. Each person wants "the best" without any understanding what it actually means. 99.9% of people have no technical expertise with image analysis and processing. Therefore, people fall for marketing hype, which is 100% false advertisement. Learn to use manual mode. Again see reviews from professional photographers using DSLR as a gold standard. In manual mode, Xperia 5 brings more details in portrait photos and better color accuracy compared to Galaxy S10, Huawei P30 Pro and Iphone 11.

  • 1. Perhaps, but only in auto settings. In manual mode though, Xperia 5 brings more details in portrait photos and better color accuracy compared to Galaxy S10, Huawei P30 Pro and Iphone 11. You can find comparison on YouTube from professional photographers using DSLR as a gold standard. 2. No one said it was compact. However, this phone is easy to hold in one hand due to 21:9 format. It's less than 7 cm in width. 3. I don't like cables so prefer using Bluetooth headphones. Wireless charging is useless in practice. 4. Battery endurance per battery size is the best on the market Xperia 5 (endurance rating 95h, battery 3140mAh) Huawei P30 Pro (endurance rating 100h, battery 4200mAh). Samsung Galaxy S10 (endurance rating 79h, battery 3400mAh). 5. Lame remark Xperia 5 costs as much as S10 and P30 Pro, which is around 700 EUR. In this price range, plus/minus 50 EUR means nothing. That being said, Xperia 5 comes with a gift - XF-1000m3 earphones worth 250 EUR, which is a very sweet deal.

  • Too long for its width? You are completely missing the point of 21:9 format. It's great for multitasking, can't do that on a shorter phone. No problem carrying Xperia 5 in my pockets.

  • A wider frame of the phone is much difficult to control in one hand, especially you have use a protective case for the fragility note 10. So the Xperia 5 is much nice for one hand control even it has put a protective case on. Taller doesn't have any problems because you must have a normal pocket size and even the Note 10 can put it in why a 2mm taller can not!?

  • They do rate the camera based on many parameters, which is right. And each person knows their needs/wishes, so some will find that Sony suits their needs. Naturally, many others won't. At this price range, Sony's camera performance gets blown out of the water by so many other flagships. Sony really needs to step up their game if they want to be a relevant player again.

  • This phone would be awesome, if the price was right. 1. It does fall behind when it comes to the camera. 2. It's not exactly compact if it's over 6 inches (unless you have fairly large hands). 3. It lacks headphone jack and/or some features other devices have (like ability to sharge other devices wirelessly). 4. Battery life isn't outstanding. 5. The design is just... boxy, too boxy. So, this phone costs over 800 Euros, while you have many other phones with same, similar or better specs for less money, like the S10 or P30 Pro for 600 Euros, Mi 9T Pro for 350 Euros... and it goes on.

  • Wish this phone is shorter. Too long for its width! Otherwise, great phone. Used to be big sony fan 10 years ago. Havnt seen a good design since! Ill buy if the size is similar to lg v30 or note 10. Ideal size to fit in pocket.

  • DXO MARK is nonsense. The whole score is a weighted average of many parameters. For example, if phone has no (or limited) optical zoom, it will get a low score simply because of limited zoom. Does it mean that camera is bad? No. Also, comparison is based on Auto settings which are not ideal. In most cases, you can get better results by using manual mode (assuming you know what you are doing). Most importantly, look at the color accuracy - are colors the same in real life and in the pictures? Most smartphones can't reproduce real life colors, and have fake (distorted) colors, which are artificial and oversaturated. The true art of photography is to reproduce objects as they appear in real life rather than fake them.

  • The Xperia 5 is truly Sony Mobile's return back to form. For me it's got the perfect size - just big enough to be manageable with one hand and with enough screen real estate for browsing and media. I was sceptical about the elongated form factor, but now I can't see myself going back to 16:9. The feel and design of the phone are also quite premium. The screen is superb - excellent colour reproduction, contrast and detail. The battery life is a huge improvement over my last phone - lasts easily more than a day, even a day and a half. The camera also takes great photos. The fingerprint sensor works pretty well for me and the back function of "side sense" is a great and clever feature for browsing one-handed. Overall, the Xperia 5 has exceeded my expectations. I'd definitely recommend it.

  • You do realise "stereo width" on a phone is entirely down to the recording being played? The days of cross channel interference in vinyl records are long gone, and you can't exactly move the speakers around. "Audiophiles" claim to hear things that simply are not there.

  • Another lousy criticism with lame remarks coming from someone who never experienced this phone before. Bigger batteries make phones heavy and not necessarily last longer. This 3100mAh battery will outlasts 4000mAh batteries of other brands. In my daily life, Xperia 5 give 10 hours SOT (2 full days). Not as good as XZ1 compact though, XZ1c was 14 hours SOT (3 full days).

  • It has an OLED Display which is better than a super Amoled Display

  • Xperia 5 is having 96 hrs endurance testing. Is this not enough for a smartphone? Even it has small battery it will come long time.

  • Xperia 5 is a waste model because : > No dedicated memory card slot > under powered battery > No sAMOLED display

  • I need to know about a few things before I make a purchase: Ram management, Dynamic range on the cameras, Viewing angles, Battery charging time, Stereo width on the audio output, Customizability of the interface. Thanks in advance.

  • Foldable phones with multiple screens are very clumsy and impractical. Moreover, they have a ridiculous price tag north of 1000 USD. You might as well just buy a tablet for 300 USD if you are fine holding >7cm width tablet-phone in one hand. Again, as someone who actually has this phone, 21:9 is perfect for multitasking.

  • I'm actually the one who has this phone and this size is perfect for multitasking.

  • if those are deal breakers for you, you might be better off using any 2010 phone instead

  • I don't mind if the phone is wider than 7 cm because most the current phones right now are hard to hold them in one hand! And wide phone make the screen looks much better than a narrow screen! Anyway for me I see the future in the foldable phones with bigger display like galaxy fold or huawei mate x or the upcoming one from xiaomi...

  • 3.5mm is the only deal breaker here

  • Great phone but waaay too long. Deal breaker

  • No FM again and no 3,5 jack?!? .... Can't belive Sony, thanks but NO thank you!!!

  • I strongly disagree, 21:9 is a perfect size and I will not buy anything other than that. Narrow width makes this phone easy to hold and tall display provides more content. Other phones (16:9 or 18:9) with similar sized display have more than 7cm width, making them effectively tablets and difficult to hold in single hand.

  • But not the right idea to make it standard on smartphones because it will the smartphones sooo narrow and tall with smaller displays and they will looks like a remote control!!

  • I will not buy them simply !!! There are many other smartphones!

  • I have no problem calling a troll out when I see one. You are a troll. Within 1-2 years more brands will follow the suit. Having multiple documents open and/or email at the same time is great for productivity.

  • How stupid sounds your comment. Samsung is going make 20:9 next year, and you will change your mind right away.

  • Beautiful. Just diamond...beautiful phones. love it

  • 42:9 is much much better for more multitasks. You can watch two 21:9 movies at the same time.

  • It never stops to amaze me how many people come to this thread making ridiculous comments about the phone they never experienced. Many professional programmers (including myself) use an external monitor 21:9 format connected to laptop. This format is great for multitasking and productivity. Same idea behind this phone.

  • Your statement is truly scientific. Now I know how to choose the best shoes size.

  • thanks!

  • The best aspect ratio is 16 plus 21 and then divide by 2 equal to 18.5: 9

  • This aspect ratio 21:9 is sooo soo ugly!! When and why and who need that ??

  • long press on power button has 3 options: power off, restart and screenshot. No video here.

  • Thanks, on my older Sony phones, you just hold power button and it show screenshot, screen recording, shut off, restart. That way I don't need download an app.

  • What do you even mean? Like, they don't build them on their own or what? If that's your point, neither does Apple, for example. I really don't get your point. Nobody builds their own phones. BMW doesn't build their own cars as well... And as far as longevity goes, Sony has been nothing less than imoressive for me, for the last 15 years. I pass on my older devices to my parents and siblings when I buy a new one. For example, my mother still using a Z3, just changed the battery on it before I gave it to her, phone still performs like new, without a hitch. They are build like tanks and very cleverly engineered internals, I dissasemble a lot of phones, and that is one reason I go Sony, usually very easy to replace parts, and the parts are cheap. Also, they come down in price a lot very quickly, you can find them in as much as half the price, under a year old, even newer, and at that point these phones are price/performance beasts. They are overpriced at release initially, that's true, that's why I don't buy them when released, also I like to wait a bit for the reviews.

  • can't find this "built-in" functionality in Settings. Plenty of apps can do it though.

  • Thanks first, my first 2 sony phones have screen recording built in just like screenshot, and the last 2 sony phones don't have this function built in, so I asked this question.

  • You use a third party application anyway.

  • Can anyone already have this phone tell me if it has screen recording, pls? Thanks!Asked a Sony representitive this question and he asked me what's the model number. First I don't think different models of this phone will vary in screen recording, second I didn't have this phone in hand, how can I know its' model number.

  • I've been using Sony phones for about 10 years now, they a great functioning phones

  • Strange point is about the selling price. Flagship phones of Huawei, Samsung and iPhone costs more than Xperia phones. I had good experiences with Samsung but I'm refusing to pay such ridiculous price for Huawei and iPhone.

  • I like the camera due to its natural color and fast focusing. Photos look exactly like in real life without artificial colors. I don't play games so can't comment on that. You can find on YouTube a few professional photographers who know what they are doing. Sony phones are not a toy, you need to learn how to use manual mode for full potential.

  • Nonsense, professional photographers have reputation. What do you have to make such bold statements?

  • they are just annoyed that they paid so much so they just say that because they want to believe it's true

  • Any first impression about the battery endurance and 21:9 multitasking format?

  • Interesting, all professional photographers claim Xperia 1 camera (and Xperia 5 for that matter) is superior to those of Huawei, Samsung and iPhone. I find it hard to trust casual reviewers who spread misinformation.

  • Do you have any constructive criticism about this phone? Mind you, this thread is about Xperia 5. I don't see in your critisism anything other than lies and hate for a manufacturer of high quality phones.

  • I'm not a salesman to decide for you what to buy, ask specific questions.

  • This battery will outlast bigger batteries of other brands

  • How is the camera performance and gaming?

  • I can answer your questions on this phone. Which one and why you should choose between Xperia 5 and Huawei p30 pro is none of my business.

  • I'm in doubt between the xperia 5 and Huawei p30 pro. which should I choose and why? I have currently OnePlus 5t

  • What does it mean by IP65/IP68

  • Battery battery endurance than larger batteries of Huawei, Samsung, xiaomi

  • Sony does not make phone's. If you do purchase a Sony phone don't expect it to last as a functioning phone for long, because as said, Sony does not make phones.

  • Nut sure why so many people come to this thread to leave lots of hate here about the phone which they never had. Conflict of interest, it seems? I just got this phone 1 week ago. Battery lasts 2 days with 10 hours SOT (my XZ1 compact lasted 3 days with 12-14 hours SOT). The phone is light, easy to hold (narrow width) and 21:9 is great for multitasking and productivity. Going from 16:9 to 21:9 for a phone is like going from 16:9 to 21:9 for an external monitor connected to laptop. It's great for productivity. If anyone has any questions about this phone, let me know.

  • With some increase in the specs as other compact series, this one is a good compact phone compared to some of its predecessors. Specs is much more nearer than its Flagship the Xperia 1. But as always, the reason it won't be as much marketable as other phone brand is because of its price. Same old problem "Selling Price".

  • Oh no!!! In Snapdragon 855 ,, Sony uses 3100 mh battery!! Lolz....

  • ion is better in terms of price to performance, tough only for the short term... After X amount of cycles the li-ion will degrade faster than li-po! :S

  • LG G8 ThinQ with Qualcomm SDM855 (7 nm) (battery 3500 mAh) Endurance rating 79h...Mehhh

  • I have an LG 4500 mAh Means everything trust me.

  • So you guys mean Li-ion is much better than Li-po?

  • Battery poor .

  • Maybe you're talking about a predecessor to the XZ1 Compact, an incredible small phone, but it only has a s835 chipset, don't you. I'm a fan of it too, the best old-school compact phone in the world!

  • Dude I've been a Sony fan since the Walkman series & I still have an XZ1. So think before you comment.

  • Look at the battery life endurance rating of Xperia 5 is 94 hours with 3140mAh while the Samsung Note 10 has 92 hours but with 3500mAh. You tell me who is weak.

  • You are so wrong. Dont judge by mha becouse none of the devices has better battery life management. Sony is the best. Buy a crapy samsung then.

  • I hate the long stretched design... so don't think ill be buying it. I also prefer 1 single good camera. Please give me a compact phone, 4.7inch, 16x9, single camera, snap 855 cpu.

  • Pre-oredered mine already! Picking it up on the 1st of November!

  • Sony still has very weak batteries. Why?

  • Sony are really behind in terms of design, also that camera is way too below that price range, I hope they installed a better battery in this one , coz all previous models couldnt hold the juice for longq😡😡😡&;#128545;😡😡

  • no head phone jack

  • No head phone jack

  • The question should be different, because now id the 7nm tech used so it does not heat so much. Do you have(or your friends) phones from other brands as sony with the same chips and sony is throttling and the others don't. Are you able to compare the temperatures?

  • Well just write what models you've got. Thermal design is the same. The little piece of metal on the motherboard is the cooler and that's it. All the boards are manufactured like one in the same manner. Sony can be throttling earlier than others(in lower temps). If you can tell I'd be glad. What phone are you using now? What is the temperature of your battery after playing? If a phone overheats just by data transfers, it's unusable phone. In the past sony had a bug. You couldn't charge the battery to 100% and the phone heated significantly. But it was a bug and I hope we're not discussing this issue. Something was using CPU resources and caused this problem. I hadn't this issue, but I know about it. It was in the era of Z2, Z3 ...

  • That's why you can only be an anonymous because spread lie doesn't need any prove but with repeat negative comments.

  • Same internals but different thermal designs of phones result in different temperatures under stress. I have 4 different sony flagships and all these overheat. If you want, I can send you screen shots of my sony phones over-heating.

  • A little add. Yes the car without ac was terrible in the summer and the phone was on the direct sun during the travel. After this I never did this mistake again.

  • Thank you for your post, I see the problem now. Sorry for my long post. I made a little testing on my XZ2 compact. I see the heating tests were performed by recording in the highest resolution. So I made just that. I set 4K and started rolling. In 44m52s I ran out of memory. Sorry, but after 9 months of using this phone I had only so much memory. During that time the battery temperature rose from 28.2 celsius to 46.5 celsius. And that's the first time I felt my phone warm! To be honest When I selected 4k a warning message appeared that the device can overheat, but it seems not in a room (21.7 celsius). I have ruber protection case which complicates cooling significantly. It seems It was a problem of previous generations. Should be no problem now. My phone is 10nm tech and xperia 5 is 7nm tech, so it should be less power demanding and that means cooler. In my normal usage it's never warming so much. I really don't remember it warm even after watching youtube. ok I have a rubber case, but wouldn't the screen be warm after watching? I think overheating is a significantly lover problem than before. About Z1 compact It was warm by using, but only occasionally hot. I also have a rubber protection case for it, but I never experienced overheating by watching youtube or by data transfers. And I was using this phone for watching youtube for hours. During that time I always discharged my battery. I played some games but again no issues, maybe I didn't play the right games. On this phone I had only one issue by recording 720p video in a heated room. After 20 minutes it stopped recording and it was hot. So yes I experienced overheating that time and yes that means it has a overheating problem. But that was the only time in 3 years. Also to be honest once I traveled in a car with my phone on the passanger seat in the summer. I had a car without air conditioning and when I got to the location, grabbed my phone and it was hot as never before. The camera said It's to hot to use. Ok, I put it into my pocket to cool down for 5 minutes. Yes to cool down in my pocket. Then I grabbed it again and made the photos I needed. Other phones have also overheating issues. I can compare my phone to Galaxy Note. It had the same chip Snapdragon 800 and it heated the same. Look at the matherboards of the phones, they look the same. How can be one less hot than the other with the same chip? Isn't it the case, that everybody else just don't care about it? Is it a good thing to do? Yes I'm biased, because I love my sony phones, but you are too. I think SONY is not a bad phone manufacturer and does a good job now. I think this phone is worth considering. If somebody would do some heating tests, I'll be also interested to see them. When somebody does something, failures will come. Sony tries hard and I think they deserve more. Again sorry for long post, but how to make it short?

  • No 960fps but y?

  • I love xperia phones but my last xperia xz changed my mind. Also this x5 doesn't look very good. A bit disappointed.

  • Miss the good old walkman branding!!!🎧

  • Buy iPhone instead for over 1000$, lol

  • All of sony flagships heated when playing graphic intensive HD games for 15-20 minutes. Then, it throttles and game freezes and lags so badly. Some flagships even throttles when downloading a big file without even playing a game. Then, everything lags. You can't even use the camera because it heated so badly. Same CPU and GPU as other phones but sony's thermal system is so bad. In fact, it is the worst in the entire smartphone industry.

  • I was interested in this phone but it's way too expensive for $825.

  • XZ1 compact were heating badly but the xz2 compact is cool , a super phone

  • Becouse their CEO explained that they will never give up on phones as the phone is part of your body , more intimate than your girl friend or lover , with you 24/7 and althogh they are loosing on that segment but it is a sweet losses as they gain on phone cameras , and keep with technology

  • sony xperia excellent phone , I would rate it 9 out of 10 , but it is not compact , Sony should keep it 63-65 centimeter maximum width than can be really operated by one hand . Compact should be the size of compacts z3 compact , xz1 compact , x compact , xz2 compact , the sony forcing on us a compact which is not a compact what a bias from Sony , I bought my second xz2 compact used for 200 dollars , I will never buy a new sony ever again if they wont intreduce REAL COMPACT , 64 milimeter width flat like the xperia 5 at 8.2 milimeter and length is less importent

  • The Xperia 5 is not compact

  • Why is Sony still making phones??????

  • I have Xperia 1. A fantastic phone

  • Bought this phone and must say I love it. Great size and very comfortable to hold and use. Very good memory and you can also expand with a micro USB. My best phone for many years. Highy recommended.

  • Oooo

  • Xiaomi has its own list of problems, which is pretty long.

  • Sony always make low music volume level, poor design, very long, poor low light cam. this has been going on for the last 7 years. they just don't improve. what a stupid company.

  • Does anyone here really have this phone?! If are feelling bad or sad dont express your emotins here, just cry or be angry at your empty room, haha,it would be nice to hear the opinion from someone who has Xperia 1! I already know performance is top- supreme so lers skip that part and talk about scren, battery, cameras, sound, etc

  • So there's just a 3 Snapdragon 855 had SD card Lenovo z6 pro Samsung A90 5G and this

  • I don't regred I bought sony I'm sure you also wouldn't.

  • Hi, I also don't have any heating issue. I have Z1 compact and XZ2 compact. It's normal, that it heats, if you stress it, but I guess that's normal and it's not too hot. What exactly you mean by Heating issue? Are the other phones less hot when stressed maintaining the same performance? I don't think it's something manufacturer can affect. It's a hardware feature related to CPU frequency and the technology of SoC (I mean the nanometers 7nm, 10nm ...).

  • i really really loved my sony z2 it used it for 4 years! my new xiaomi is rubbish in a matter of build quality i would buy another sony, i dont mind its price, buy there are many problems with new sony phones, for an example no 3.5 jack little battery little cameras xiaomi has it all, and it costs 1/4

  • what a sarcasm :D

  • SONY Xperia XZ1 don't have any issues with heat. At all.

  • Do a review on YouTube on how lousy Sony phones are and we will judge you, whether you are right or not. There is enough hate on this thread, stop making more.

  • If there was any truth to your statements you would not buy 4 flagships from a company you don't like. Again, I doubt you ever had those. No issues here whatsoever. Stop spreading lies

  • Happy owner of xz1c and Xperia 5 here. Too early to judge this phone yet but never had any trouble with xz1c. No heating whatever.

  • SONY are too busy with the PLAYSTATION 5 and thus manufacturing lousy phones !!

  • What he siad is true. I have 4 sony flagships, so I know these shortcomings. One thing he forgot to mention is heating issue. All sony flagships have heating issues starting from Z series to xperia 1 and 5.

  • too expensive

  • If a display is the windows of the soul the notch /waterdrop / punch hole must be the silhouette on the windows. If you are comsumer you must have chooses, but all the notch/ waterdrop / punch hole flooding in the market, you have no chooses, Sony is the lamplight in the darkness because it improve everything and bring new technology and most importantly it's doesn't blind your windows with those silhouette.

  • "............poor big bezel designs, low volume level, low poor speakers, poor low light camera". Poor big bezel designs - very subjective, the rest pure lies.

  • Sony phones don't sell well because of their price, even though it means very good quality for which I'm personally willing to pay a premium price. Most people would rather buy a cheap Chinese phone and replace it every year.

  • Very constructive answer. Let me guess, you are from Korea?

  • please, stop spamming this thread. Don't like this phone, fine! Just move one with you pissing contest somewhere else.

  • I want snapdragon 855 in xperia z5 compact size

  • dude. We as a consumers have the right to make criticisms about a product. Yes, some folks make ignorant and false remarks about a phone. I used to like sony ericsson phones and had sony Xperia Z 1st gen before. I stop using sony because of poor big bezel designs, low volume level, low poor speakers, poor low light camera. That's a fact. I have been waiting for a phone that i like for 7 years. haven't found 1 i like. so sad.

  • we have a sony fanboy who thinks sony phone is the best and has no cons. I used to like sony but i stop using it because of poor big bezel designs, low volume level, low speaker level, poor low light camera. This is why sony phones don't sell. That's a fact.

  • dude, i have used many phone brands even sony before. Sony used to be my favorite. I can look at the dimension of the size and tell the phone is long and narrow. I did my research and have read reviews. I know pros and cons about phone. I don't need to hold it to know it's a long phone. i'm not some idiots just making ignorance remarks.

  • mine order jus came home today. i had the xperia 1 only for a bit of time but failed the water test. jus cuz of unluckily have a defective one. well gona test this one in the shower soon, odds of havin another bad one, not likely hehe. n this place is for actual owners or wantin to own, stop camparing with other phones, n get out of here n get the other dan phone already. some of yall talk like this.. I wish nike dont have a check mark, why cant it have three strips instead..

  • Making silly critisism before doing your own research, seriously? Check endurance rating for this battery before making silly statements.

  • Another pissing contest, who got a bigger battery. Look at the endurance rating to understand that Sony 3000mAh battery is better than 4000mAh of other brands.

  • Note10

  • Here it comes. Another one critisizing this phone even though he/she never used it or held it in the hand. Haven't you learnt from your parents not to judge the book by its cover?

  • 3140mAh? Seriously?

  • wish the length is shorter!!! Way too long and ugly. Sony needs to do something about their phone designs. Haven't seen a good design for the last 7 years. always poor low light camera, low volume level, big bezel. siiiighhhhh.,

  • OnePlus 7T for my opinion because it has better display(90hz), better battery(3800 vs 3140), faster charging, SD855+, more RAM and storage but the Sony should have slightly better cameras.

  • Asking people to make a decision for you is just silly. Go to a shop and see for yourself what you like the most.

  • Which is better option. Xperia 5 or Oneplus 7t...?

  • best phone 2019

  • I don't know if its me but does everyone thinks that Sony's gesture navigation for Android 9 Pie (or the upcoming Android 10) is better than the One UI 2.0 of the Samsung Galaxy S10 in many ways as it is mainly based on stock Android?

  • ... battery, battery, to small battery. Hey people, look endurance rating.

  • Chinese spotted. Sony phones are popular in EUROPE. From my personal experience, they are far more reliable than most cheap Chinese phones.

  • Sony should only make audio products because that's what it is still good at . .... Sony mobile is a not available in most of the countries. Why does it even bother .. just close the shop and go home and sleep

  • Very well said!

  • Yet another well engineered and unique phone..overall very balanced plus stellar battery performance, matching 4500~5000mah phones. What happened to giving credit when its due? The closest thing to perfect and a must buy, just make it available at more outlets.Good job Sony!

  • Thank you so much! People are obsessed with having 4000mAh+ batteries, why? If you can get a smaller battery, with better power management on the device, then why not? The phone would charge faster, but still have the performance that you need, when you need it.

  • I recieved mine yesterday. so far the biggest minus is the absent of 960 fps slowmo. but since i was mostly just messing around with it, it's fine. it really feels compact with it's width. i have to strech and change the grip a little bit to reach the top of the screen, but bearable. i switched from xz1. on the first full day i managed to have 4h40min screen time with 3,5 hours of gaming (Marvel contest of champions) - yes i was board. so far battery is amazing. still waiting for my preorder gift wf-1000XM3. as soon as the price drops it's a really good buy.

  • 21:9 and only 6.1" oh no, oh no - With ist 6 cm wide it's like an 4.9" in the good old 16:9 format

  • Xperia 5 fingerprint scanner placement is perfect but Galaxy S10e just a mess, you will press the fingerprint button on upper side and press the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen do you think your finger is having a basketball match running up and down just for the weird fingerprint placement? Samsung doesn't have Eye tracking. The image quality for lowlight comparison even the Pixel 3 with single camera is better than Galaxy S10e, because Samsung smear the texture and looks not focused (blurred) and the daylight is too much punchy than real objects. Please refer the Gsmarena's camera comparison charts. The punch hole isn't nice, even Samsung try it on several area but still a black hole there.

  • My perfect phone : Body - max 68mm width ✓ Display - min 6" with 1080p resolution ✓ Battery - min 90h gsmarena endurance ✓ Button - placement to be good ✗ Music - 3.5mm is a must ✗ Performance - flagship specs bro ✓ Price - around 500 eur ✗ Sony has failed crosses (look up). Galaxy s10e is also close but has failed some requirements

  • finally ,somebody who thinks straight.Bravo

  • big batteries mean nothing, people want great battery endurance and that's exactly what this phone is offering. Let's compare a few latest phones below. See where it really matters? Xperia 5 (endurance rating 95h, battery 3140mAh) Huawei P30 Pro (endurance rating 100h, battery 4200mAh). Samsung Galaxy S10 (endurance rating 79h, battery 3400mAh).

  • The most dissapointing and confused fone and fone manufacturer, how did u come up with xperia 5, and while other flagships are rocking 4000mah and upward they are still trailing with a 3000mah battery, nowanda they are being left behind, no vision

  • Why the hell is it so thick with such a small battery?

  • Human hand sizes have not changed for tens, hundreds of thousands of years. Phone makers need to realize this.

  • agree.. sooner in 2020..smartphone companies such as huawei will copy this 21:9 aspect ratio lmaoo.. i doubt.. cuz is this gonna be ugly. watching movied is now widened narrowed. lmaooo

  • 6.1 inch is fine with me but I'd not go smaller than that. Now, it's like my XZ1C only a bit longer, which I'm personally very happy with. More vertical screen estate is exactly what I want.

  • it's just a fancy feature and not a deal breaker to me

  • You're acting like Sony is the only offender here... Even some companies who defended 3.5mm in the past now axing the 3.5mm jack from existence of their flagship, and start selling their own BT headphones/earphones...

  • It has to be 6.7" at least for 21.9 ratio

  • not everyone has a 50" hdr oled TV at home. Phones are a necessities this day...TV's are not though.

  • *96h* :D

  • Companies decision are governed by the "weird" market demands. People (fast majority) want bigger screen. Making a true compact with 21:9 is not a very good idea - too long and too narrow.

  • Wish Sony made a real Compact.

  • big batteries mean nothing, people want great battery endurance and that's exactly what this phone is offering. Xperia 5 (endurance rating 95h, battery 3140mAh) vs Huawei P30 Pro (endurance rating 100h, battery 4200mAh).

  • I like design like no other. Every phone always cheat iphone design except SONY gud job

  • Did you saw battery test? It’s around 96h which is very impressive. Sony made that move because screen size overall is not so huge. iPhones got 2000mah and can last pretty long on battery. So just don’t write stupid comments

  • Sony, we arw dont really care about cinematic screen, what we care is, big battery, good design, 19:9:5 screen, good speaker, os quality, features and price.

  • Waiting sony for almost 5 years comeback, dissapoint, sony never learn.

  • Wasn't the rationale for removing the headphone jack was to increase battery size/capacity? Isn't it ironic now we get neither? This battery capacity is unacceptable on a flagship these days; especially when it comes with no headphone jack. Stupid companies hopping on bandwagons.

  • Can anybody help to tell us when this phone will be available in the markets of asia and middle East

  • Sony i started to believe that you are stupid company . I am looking to buy this phone and no any company can deliver it to saudi Arabia . Sony you are disappointing your customers

  • Last 7 year. Sony has never improved on the music volume level(always average) and poor low light camera and poor design. Been waiting 6 years for a good phone. Until now not a single well rounded phone. Dam it sony.

  • because, when communting, and you want to catch up on your Netflix stuff, you don't have a 50 inch HDR oled or an imax next to you :|. jfc, why do we need a screen at all on phones and not just rotary dials or hardware keyboards? they're just phones anyways...

  • I can't believe Endurance rating 96h with that battery. I just can't believe that :P

  • Check the supported bandwidths of your preferred network provider.

  • They are busy right now... They trying to rob customers pocket while selling BT headsets or Type-C to 3.5mm converters. What can you expect from a devilish company.

  • Why would they release a phone in this day and age without wireless charging ? It’s a must have these days in any phone as many people have the stuff to charge them, that's a low attempt from Sony, once a leading manufacturer of electronics. Nearly bought it, and I stopped just because of that feature missing

  • LoL, why someone would whatch a movie or media contect on a 5-6" display, instead of a big display at imax or at home on a minimum 50" hdr oled?!

  • I think so

  • France Amazon can post the phone in United Kingdom. Is the phone compatible with UK network? Thanks

  • No body is caring for cinematic display? Because you never tried

  • So you are talking for everyone? I actually like it

  • What do you mean, mediocre batteries? Sony actually care about keeping theirs going. I actually sold a Z1c last year which was 4 years old and yet still had more or less full charge; their batteries seem to be longer lasting than others and their endurance on battery is high. mAh is less important than real world performance.

  • What's up with Sony and mediocre batteries ?????

  • Buy at lazada

  • Hi guys, what is happening with Sony? When is the next Tablet coming out? Has Sony decided not to release another Tablet!!??

  • You can buy it from many different websites. I pre-ordered mine from the French Amazon store.

  • I agree with you . If shorter can be one of the best sony phones . No body is caring for cinematic display

  • People i am living in Saudi Arabia sony is not available here . How i can buy one as soon as possible .

  • long and narrow design? wth sony? If this phone is shorter, it's perfect! i've been waiting for 6 years for sony come out with a nice design phones. they fail me for last 6 years!!! sigh

  • No bro there are lot of people which are missing new Xperia lineup presence here in India

  • Hi everyone . Can any one tell me if the single sim model can use sd card or this is only for the dual sim model ??? Thanks

  • But your logic, golf umbrella is compact too.

  • I think i am the only one to miss sony phone in india

  • Thanks

  • Thanks

  • no. the sd card slot only available in dual-sim model. No individual sd card slot.

  • Single SIM + SD Card is standard on all single SIM Sony phones.

  • Single sim = slot for sim + slot for micro sd Dual sim = slot for sim 1 + slot for sim 2 / micro sd

  • Hi everyone . Can any one tell me if the single sim model can use sd card or this is only for the dual sim model ??? Thanks

  • Sounds I care about you more than you about yourself What's up with people in 21st century

  • 5g is more worse then any network before Do research before argue with me

  • all electronic devices make cancer, u better stay in cave

  • 5g makes cancer. So why do you need that?

  • Well you are certainly Mr. Audio Prophet calling bluetooth "the devils work", but before writing a conclusion and spreding propaganda and hate about companies that use bt devices, do you know that wired headset with 3.5 mm jack when used also transmit radiation just like bluetooth headset, the irony of you post is that the level od radiation of wired and bt are mostly the same, it is considered harmless vs talking to you phone all day long.

  • Bahahahahaha. Man. Go back under rock and hide there...forever. Cancer rom BT hehe. Your body take much more EM radiation every day from whole world than BT radio can emit by whole your life.

  • Releasing a '5' that doesn't use 5G is just bizzare. Nevermind the compact chat.

  • Battery is a Pro

  • The screen is 1080p and the phone has just 1 hour less of an endurance rating than the Samsung Galaxy Note9, which has 4000 mAh

  • With a 96 Hour endurance rating, just 1 hour less than Galaxy Note9 with 4000mAh

  • By the 68 mm width.

  • Thank you for the great review. Perfect for me and just ordered this great phone.

  • Will this model prevent me from upgrading to Mate 30? Will wait for the availability and its local price.

  • they put all things in a phone but why sony does not improve screen ratio nobody wants to purchase that screen in this price sony try to understand people wants, don't make a phone like long rulers you make phones, not a video player...

  • 158mm ... How does that qualify for compact ?

  • Non-ionizing radiation mate. The cancer rumour is fake, absolutely no proof, only slight links, other things could have affected that.

  • 7.3mm thick Xperia Z5 has Headphone jack, 8.3mm thick Xperia 5 not. They just causing Brain Cancer to people because of BT headsets while direct exposing EM Radiation... What we understand from this? Sony, Samsung, Apple and which else removes 3.5mm headphone connector is DEVIL. No heart, no humanity. Only f--ng money... For them we are just bunch of papers... Monsters!

  • I'm glad the compact phone still exist especially this one. I've gotta say that battery life is very surprising to me I'm glad its really good.

  • All sony need do now is bring back 16x9 screen with Omnibalance design, and I will be their customer again!

  • Which colour prefer black or white?

  • Endurance rating 96 hours. The battery looks amazing

  • Ha! Told you! Beats both samsung S10 and S10e in battery endurance test!!!

  • Hey, why you didn't take photos and videos with HDR on to see how it's performs! Did you miss that?

  • Width under 70 mm is a big plus in my book. But the price is way too steep and the battery looks pathetic.

  • Actually, everybody cares about it.. Bring back the 3.5mm!!! You people would accept anything.. you probably had iPhone at one point in your life, am I right?😁

  • this has it :) 6GB is enough, and sony has one of the best power management on the market.... battery valuje is OK and it wil be better than chinese crap with 4000mah...

  • 1080p resolution.

  • If you watch 4K, will use more battery than watching 1080p. That was obvious. Dont forget that 4K is 4 x Full HD.

  • why buying that overpriced underscoring phone? i want: 3.5 headphones and bigger battery, ram and camera! whats going on sony?

  • 8% over night stand by drain is pretty terrible. And 50 minutes of Youtube watching cost almost 40% of battery? Terrible battery life.

  • By your usage, my phone will last at least 10 days.

  • I really confused. This model 4K display or normal display?

  • why is it so hard for sony to make a very high end phone. look at that specs, i was sony xperia user. but after some fails, i think sony cant catch up

  • Stop talking about 3.5 jack, nobody cares about. It's 2019. It's gone and that's it. Just accept it. I'm tired read about. Be smarter

  • If this had 3.5mm jack and cost like Galaxy s10e, it would be hit.. But sadly, it will fail

  • No we don't and it's sad. The XZ1 compact is the last sub 130mm.

  • Try other posture to hold the phone in landscape position. The camera module setup at corner is to free up extra space on the other corner so that you can grip the bottom (in landscape posture) firmly and stable with your left hand. The hardware shutter key with 2 step, half press for focus and push all for capture, plus the on-screen shutter is good as normal phone so there are no more problem with you unless you are bias enough.

  • The placing of cameras in the corner is not an ideal as in all my previous shooting I had my holding finger in the images , number too the dedicated camera button is hard to press and therefore the camera moving or shaking during the pressing .

  • I am looking for compact or to be more precise one handed phone and sony regarding the xperia 5 as a compact . Is it a compact in width becouse I never holded one , I had before the Z3 compact 64.9mm width which were perfect size , than I had the Z5 compact 65mm width still excellent hold in one hand ,than after the low performance blocky X compact at 65mm was too very nice to hold and lastly the xz2 compact which is 65mm wide but too thick at 12.1 mm deep make it the lesser compact to hold . the new xperia 5 is 68mm wide and is too wide to hold in one hand , I need a real 65mm width as a flagship phone and not worry about the length or weight I wish sony will bring out the xperia 5c ( 65mm width "compact " ) that would be my dream phone as my current gem xz2 compact . such phone will be the best narrow one handed phone of the world , I will never touch any other phone

  • Yes

  • Hahaha. My XZ3 works 1,5 day. I have charged yeasterday late night, in the morning 92%, use YT in tram 30min (+ gps), at work a few apps in stand-by (wi-fi + GPS), after work 20min YT.. and 63% battery. U dont have XZ2, u-r-trlln'.

  • Im curious what will they call for their next falgship after Xperia 1 ? If they call it xperia 2, it will be confusing since 'The 5' is already out ..hahaha If this is compact version of xperia 1 why dont just call it xperia 1 compact/mini.

  • Does the Xperia 5 have a multi-colour LED notification light?

  • compare it with S10 you get your answer

  • don't compare xperia 5 with any other smart phone it is only comparable against s10 and they both phone have something special so there is price difference if you like samsung features some are not usable in daily life then go for samsung and vice versa

  • S10e cost only $650

  • Your xz2 has terrible battery life. My phone lasts 14 days on stamina mode.

  • exactly! people complain when they see the battery mha but never actually try the phone. Ihave an XZ2, still running amazingly well and battery holds past a day with me watching movies once in a while. Sad people complain about Sony without having even touched the phone.

  • Do you know that S855 is 7nm? Every shrink in silicon production process gives you less power consumption. My XZ3 (10nm, 6inch) works almost 2 days (1,5 minimum). Sony have the best on the market Stamina Mode (technology since 2000 cameras).

  • Im sure 10e not better in Music and Album app. Those Sony app are almost perefect in all terms. And screen calibration in Profesional Mode (here u got Cinealta) and color modes in Video mode (cinealta).

  • S10e costs $750 , so it's $50 difference. It's not a big deal to talk about the price

  • Compare this vs the S10e. You'll find out who is the winner. It's clearly S10e. Not only is it more compact, but yet better in some stages, and much cheaper than this device. For 800 Dollars, this ain't it chief. Go on, do the comparison. You will see yourself.

  • Cut 3-4 centimeters of height and it's great! With this form factor I don't understand the product at all. There a lot of current Sony Compact owners thinking wtf is happening and is Sony really letting us go without producing new compact. If so, I think that Sony could just probably close the whole mobile manufacturing.

  • My XZ3 works almost 2 days (90% YT and aplications). Its truly the best phone I ever see in my life. Xperia 5 sure is the best on the market know. Sony is Sony.

  • Too narrow

  • Hi! Can new Sony X5 support dual band Galileo Gps.

  • i love the sony. I was a Huawei fan earlier. Recently I changed to Sony XZS. I want to say Huawei may use Leica camera. But still Huawei can not beat the Sony camera. But huawei has best marketing team. Thats why people more love it.

  • Have you seen Xperia 1 battery test with other brand? You will change your opinion, obvious

  • But it's better than notch or punch hole for viewing.. By the way it's inspired by bravia TV.. Imagine your TV use notch or punch hole display LOL

  • 250 euro is a more resonable price since it can't even compete with k20 pro.

  • Same I have 6.

  • Hail the Xperia 5! King of all bezels! Ha ha ha ha ha

  • Only a 100 bucks off then why not Just get the 1🤦🏿‍&#9794;️

  • Being Sony and using the 855 does not justify the price being double of the budget competitors. If anything, Sony phones have been glitchy disasters that immediately need to be sold for hefty discounts... But Japanese companies are stubborn if not delusional. Even so... if the rear cam was quad lens and the main sensor was 48mp with pixel binning and good nighttime video then this -might- be one of the best phones... but it's not. Also what the hell is with the (small) lithium ion batter instead of a lighter, safer, Li-Pol?

  • Every thing is impressive expect battery 3140mah only. I suggest Sony to make minimum 4500-5000mah battery so that people may buy. Otherwise people won't buy.

  • Sony is excluding adding WiFi 6 in 2019, so when they decide to add it, they can boast about it to the media. Sony might argue that WiFi 6/ 802.11 ax , still isn't mainstream for the majority of WiFi users.

  • only getting this one cuz water got in my new xperia 1 in the shower use. In shower use is not that much of water even. many older xperias i have that i took to beaches(in water) still ok. Well i hope ill have luck with this one, now im using an older xz3 for temporary. i have more than 10 xperia phones in past, big fan here

  • "how is this?" Check the processor first, better than Huawei P30.

  • Why SONY is not working on a good battery performance ! Guys, be logic please 3140mAh for 6 inch screen ???!!

  • no doubt best android cellphone! just look at the latest product by apple!! surely, xperia 5 is damn so beautiful

  • Is better than the galaxy A50? Seriously

  • 800 euro? Will someone tell me how this is

  • Not coming yet in Indonesia 😭😭😭&#128557;😭😭

  • So this is Xperia 1e !

  • Feels sorry for getting know that this set is also only 4G supported. Thats mean, by mid of 2020 this set and all of other 4G supported cellphones will be useless for using 5G Sims.... So why hurry, just wait for better option with cheap rates as well. Thanks

  • Mine overheats most of the time.

  • Battery life will be awesome in xz max if you moved from xperia flagships.

  • I'm a one of the sony lover, but only one thing I hate battery life, plus increase your product battery life,,,,,,,

  • it is worst idea: uses shared SIM slot (when the phone is tallest thing in phone it world)

  • Not true. Battery life is awesome. Get off.

  • Just concluded an agreement for a Xperia 5 inc. SONY WF-1000XM3. 24 months contract. I pay $ 23 a month. (50 dollar inc 8 gig surf, fre calls and sms) Total for the phone $ 300 ,If you deduct the cost of the headphones. A bargain !! Loved my Xperia xz1 compact. Brilliant sundquality , great batterylife. I connvinced this one wont let me down either.

  • My XZ Premium never overheated, and my 1 hasn't overheated once yet.

  • You are lying.

  • All the people argue abowt the battery cappacity, not abowt the general facts . Wat if the fone its desined for people that realy afford it , people that ar not using it all day long becouse they ar realy working dooing somthing useful for the society ? If 6-7 Hours of screen on time its not enuf ,try the 3-4-5 Hours screen on time from the iphone . In real life its about the overall aspects ,not just for some of them .

  • Even iphone xs max has better battery life than sony flagships.

  • If you dont like sony s batery life, switch up to iphone then .

  • No....

  • For me, it is important how wide the phone is to use it easily. Still, I don't know if I will get it. No Wifi 6?

  • Why no Wifi 6? Isn't the chip made for it?

  • No WiFi 6. Hmm. Rise and fall, really.

  • Xperia 5, ps5. Rise of the 5.

  • Is the new x5 wireless charging

  • In my experience Sony do the least in-phone processing so the pictures are better for treatment in Photoshop or equivalent. Sony has always gone for accuracy both in audio and video. I don't want blown out oversaturated colours or artificial detail.

  • HD+ is damn waste. Anything beyound 720p is pointless maybe 1080p but thats most. On a 6 inch screen is poitless to make anything beyound FHD.

  • Will this phone have 30 second shutter as follows to take milky way photos?

  • "Its funny still there a people whose prefer a removable battery over waterproof & slim phone." I definitely prefer removable battery. Slim phone only makes it easier to drop. Waterproof is personal preference, though I don't really mind much.

  • I don't mind much about Sony's hardware. It's their camera software that I always disappointed the most. Lots of Android OEM uses Sony's camera, and yet their photo looks better than the Sony phone itself, which is rather ironic if you ask me. It's like a car brand giving their engine to another car brand, and yet that other brand can make it much more powerful and more efficient than the brand who gives the engine the first place. It's just doesn't make sense! It's your own hardware, you should know it much better than everyone else.

  • Not all people are buying into wireless technology, and some people still hear FM Radio on the phone. I know that because I am one.

  • Wrong. My XZ2 still overheats. Literally all sony flagships overheat.

  • It is 7mm taller than note 10 and you still called it a compact phone? Lmao

  • I have 4 sony flagships and battery life of these phones are terrible at best. Need to charge 3 times a day.

  • U should go for nokia 3310 bro.. how old are u bro?

  • Impressive. finally I made my decision to buy this phone after I had Z5 for 4 years, This is really cool.

  • Yeah, me too but you need to keep in mind that it's taller but narrower. In width it's 2mm wider than XZ1 Compact so I'm really excited about this phone. I also like using small phones and rn I'm using a XZ1 C

  • I was really hoping for something a bit smaller :/

  • Made specially for movies?

  • Its interesting to see how this counts as "Compact", the Z5 was 128mm the X Compact to ZX1 129mm and the ZX2 135mm long, so we already gained 7mm or more than half a centimeter, but this? Its 158mm, meaning 30 mm! from the Z5, that was more in line with the XA line of phones. I hope there is still a real compact design around with max width of 65mm and close to 130mm length.

  • Sony has great battery management. You cant say shizz if you havent had a sony phone.

  • How on earth is that a compact phone ?....it has the same height as S10+ !

  • I am looking for compact phone for my small sized hands but... thats not it. Weak cameras as xperia x1. Will wait more i guess, still using s7.

  • What is with Sony and battery department ??? They design great phones full of specs then s**t on the deal by putting the smallest battery possible !!!!

  • omg xperia 1 compact , thats what i want from sony.

  • Most probably €799

  • 21:9 is truly AWESOME! Whoever complains about this...I'm extremely sorry that I can't agree with you! Sony's power management is great even with lower mAh. don't comment that until you use a latest Xperia. And narrow phones are much handy than any regular models in the market. But, Sony needs to concentrate on their marketing policies & supply...their low availability in the market is very disappointing

  • Well, that's depressing

  • u should try it then. u will love it.

  • Hello dear Sony, I Love you, please keep simple is perfect dude. Love Sony. The best smart phone in this world.

  • How much is the Device?

  • This is because of the SnapDragon 810. This was Qualcomm's first 64 Bit SoC. This was the same year Samsung released the S6 with Exynos chips in the US instead of Snapdragon 810. A lot of companies had issues with this SoC chip heating up on small tasks, the newer ones are much better.

  • I just read that Xperia 5 DOESN'T have 960fps video record, gsm arena should investigate/correct

  • Noooo 3100 battery is too much for me, c'mon sony you can do better! I need 2500 a least. I cant live without charging my phone 2 times a day!

  • Which 2019 phone has a removable battery, like what? We moved on to nano sim and you also need to accept that you will never expect a 3.5mm jack on a flagship that is the last thing they'd keep on a flagship if you want one SO BAD, then just buy a midrange or gaming phone cause that's basically the only category they stay in

  • Are you kidding??? Do you still thinking you are living on 2005 ?? Then Go grab Sony Ericsson P800 . Modern phone is not for you. Its funny still there a people whose prefer a removable battery over waterproof & slim phone. I wonder what phone are you using now

  • Compact phone nice jocke :)

  • no removable battery? no 3.5mm jack? excuse me but what year are we in? 2011.?

  • Not complaining. I'm not sure if you really understood what I posted. It's just an observation based on people who always complains about Sony releasing 2 phones a year. Now that Sony just release a similar phone to X1, they complain about having no new features.

  • I agree with you

  • Sony Xperia maker... Why are you messing up with all the design of your phones please do not waste your skills please make a better one not like this crappy Xperia 1 and 5 common already... ✌️

  • Well, if this phone surprised us with its battery life, just like the XZ1 2 years ago with 82h ER, I'll be looking at those speechless comments and observed like it that was the moment... But, in a meanwhile, I will wait and keep observing just to see how the warzone could go...

  • Sony needs to have their own platforms to test their parts on. You might just as well recover some R&D cost by selling them.

  • The only difference between this and the X1 is the screen and the battery, that's all. The rest is just EXACTLY THE SAME! After comparing those two, I decided to have the X5 instead of the X1. Tbh, I just cannot see why you need a screen with super high ppi. 400-500 ppi is already enough. P.S (Screen) X5: 6.1", 1080p, 449 ppi X1: 6.5", 1644p, 643 ppi

  • So no 3.5mm jack, no FM radio, no removable battery or ir blaster, what makes this phone a smartphone than? Thank you, Next.

  • What are you complaining for this is not a flagship phone its a smaller phone its not competing with the xperia 1

  • ...if you do not have enough money, it is a joke... SONY is for people with money (like IPHONES)

  • People: Sony should make 1 flagship phone a year not every 6 months. Sony: Ok here's Xperia 1, then here's Xperia 5, which is basically same as Xperia 1 but a bit smaller and cheaper and lower screen res. People: WTF! So stupid of Sony releasing an Xperia 5 that is similar to Xperia 1, without new features.

  • 3140 mah is this a joke... ? ...for 860 $ ?

  • I cant understand sony hater critises What about this phone is old? seems that nowadays critising sony is cool. what other brands did that sony didn't? Even new samsung flagships is like sony's old design. both sony amd firefox are rising but some people always critise them specially their critises are really unfair. Be honest with yourselves dear friends!

  • sony is not focusing on mobile sales. I think they are just supplying parts these days. All their release of these models are just for the sake of it I believe. rather have a model every year than none. Its just throwing in some cash to waste and let people know that they're there. Otherwise I don't see a reason why they're releasing outdated crap every year with a premium price.

  • 3140mah battery? NEXT!

  • Okay, yeah, but the compacts in the past were just a few mms narrower, lik 2 or 3, idk. The only "non compact" thing is it's height. All phones are getting taller, Sony is the exception and get taller than every other phone, of course, it can get smaller, but that would be too much narrow of a screen, Sony's new way is 21:9, we just have to accept it unless they decide to change it. Also, they didn't name the phone Xperia 5 Compact, it's just a compact version of the 1, the same way the S10e is a compact version of the S10. And I'm very happy with my gorilla hands, I can use big screen phones comfortably :)

  • Another excellent cell phone from Sony.

  • My main use is phone (obviously) and text. Sorry Sony, i don't watch movies and even less on tiny tiny screens. Just did the calculations, the height of the Xperia 5 is 24,4 % greater than the XZ1C ! My hands and my pockets won't grow as much. I will stick to my XZ1C for a long long time... And i have the jack!!

  • Yea like a 5.5 inch 16:9 phone

  • 21:9 is a really bad idea in my opinion. Xperia 5 should have been 18:9 or 16:9

  • I really love Sony products especially their phones but it seems things are getting worse.......... Led flash is too week when taking photos at night and reduction in battery capacity is a big problem. Apart from Sony I'm unable to use any other phone.......... It's my prayer Sony lights up and shines like diamond

  • Actually it white not grey colour

  • Just because you can use phones the size of doors with your gorilla hands doesn't mean everybody else can.

  • Sony just need to improve the screen reolution and screen to body ratio on the xz1 compact. That's literally all they need to do.

  • In India, How can we get this particular model????

  • If they get the price right they'll emerge as one of the best competitors out there but it's not gonna be the case. In my country the S10 is way cheaper than the Xperia 1 so that's a big blow. I was a Sony fan till XZ1 but after that I gave up as Sony has been wiped out in my country their phones are more available in my country.

  • because we have hopes

  • 6.1 and 3140 mah ?

  • The problem with sony is it's just for the chosen few, it's availability is hectic

  • 3140 mAh is enough.. It's a Sony bro.. Their battery management is best among android phones

  • not too bad for xperia 5 even though the battery is only 3140mAh

  • 21:9 :(((((((

  • L1, 10, 10 plus, 1 = 4 And this is Xperia 5

  • Looks like a solid good phone although 3140mAh is not good enough. Common Sony, improve on your battery.

  • Oh I remember mine xperia sp which got updated and destroyed ram management. Funny thing - they never fixed it. Awesome. Then after a half year it just died :)

  • my concern is with the capacity of battery3140 .....its 855 snapdragon and as per today tends lot gaming is done and Sony has to something with the battery... On paper Sony may say it has good backup but on ground reality its not like... rest all the stuff is awesome

  • Does this phone have a LED notification light?

  • the begining of the end for sony ... like htc did !

  • this is another expensive joke from sony. not for me anymore !

  • Yea like a 5.5 inch 16:9 phone

  • exactly

  • Where's the 1 compact???

  • Its mm

  • 3140mah, whoever decided that just needs to go, sony never ever seems to get it, can't they even check their competition for a change??? IDK who is in charge over there.

  • ..And yet you are still here in Sony's thread.

  • Like mi max 2......hahaha i already got one.....and loving its 16:9 aspect ratio.....

  • miss the "XA ultra" line, please bring back front facing camera with LED flash.

  • Somehow ..........

  • What phone you currently use & name 3 phones with headphone jack at the moment 🤔You people complain too much, build your own phone!!!

  • 3140 mah!!! with that specs you need to charge it 3 times a day

  • 158mm tall ??????? no thank you!!

  • Now THIS is a much better design than the Note 10 in terms of that "squared" design. Sony is the best at this sort of rectangular design.

  • after the z5 heating issues way back, i gave up on sony mobiles

  • Or maybe , just maybe you have very small hands ( ala ) sienfield

  • 3140.....what a number!

  • The samsung s10e is more compact than this one. And not even that is "compact". 🙄

  • Too tall, no 3.5mm jack and still too wide. When will Sony get it through their thick heads that 68mm is not compact unless you have gorilla hands?

  • I know exactly why this phone will flop . While pricing and deciding about features, they are constantly comparing themselves to the apple. Instead they should look at Xiaomi and Samsung. K20 pro or whatever the hell it's being called and s 10e are almost the half price of this phone. So although I love Sony, why the hell would I give twice the money when I can get Xiaomi and a nice TV perhaps.

  • That battery is so small nowadays..

  • Looks like a shitty note 9 with a smaller battery and no headphones jack

  • it there QI support?

  • Wow, so nowadays 158cm tall is compact.

  • Its said FHD plus which is pointless. by the way calling 6,1 inch screen compact is like calling a London doubledecker bus a minivan.

  • Boy I'm a tired of these tall, slim phones. We need for screen estate for the keyboard to type easily.

  • This one has a 1080p display, not a 4K one.

  • 800 euros? And who is going ti buy this next to Samsung s10e? It's cheaper but better camera. It doesn't even have 3.5 mm jack. Those people at Sony mobile department really should be fired. They're crazy.

  • Almost same sony xperia 1...

  • Great product very powerful phone

  • Looks good especially the white one. But not really compact with 6.1 inch.

  • WHY! The xz2 compact was so promising but NO HEADPHONE JACK. Then they follow up with this which is even bigger and still no headphone jack..

  • Yes i did and its same. Anything beyound 720p on a 6 inch screen is complete pointless. Its like a diet water because plain water have too much calories. Or like to put a laser sight on a catapult or slinger. Plenty of other things i can name which have o sense at all. But having an FHD+ on a 6 inch screen is just one good costly example.

  • battery 3140 why؟!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • even with being X-Reality Engine & best optimization 3140mah its not enought for 158mm phone

  • a compact remote control lol.

  • If it was only shorter... I am getting tired of Sony, have most of their phones, keep hoping for a proper compact but still nothing (Typing on my xz2 compact)

  • but no headphone jack. it is painfull

  • An upcoming gimmick does not make this a compact phone.

  • I think this is not flagship from Sony.. Look at the screen resolution & the battery & the ram I think Xperia 1 is better than it..

  • Sony engineers forgot how to use a ruler.

  • Very expensive price with very low of batteries life, please sony give it higher batteries life. Why sony so greed about the mah?

  • Never doubt about the Xperia's tech & design but, 3140 mAh? Come on, time to keep up.

  • Awesome! Perfect size, not too wide. I have the xz2 compact now and I am sooooooo happy they make another onw which is not too wide. I love Sony anyways. Security updates every month. Never had that with my phone from another company before.

  • Yes, and with a fraction of the usable screen area. But don't worry, I'm sure Sony (like the others) will soon have a foldable device to sell you for €2000, so you can finally get a useful aspect ratio again.

  • terrible phone, very small battery, no 3.5 jack.

  • Looks like galaxy fold one of sides

  • Compact my ass! Sony Mobile will disappear from markets if they continues with useless odd phones. I think they should be missing Ericsson from Sweden!

  • Compact mostly means 1 hand usage-able in anything, yes it too long and your thumb wont likely reach the top but with the upcoming android 10 full gesture that problem will be solved.

  • The display just s*cks. Even 5-6 years old Sony phones have 2160p displays. Now, Sony is offering 1080p coming at late 2019. Sony must be high on sh*t.

  • Interesting proportions. Still shame about battery size...

  • disappointment... no 3,5mm jack,no fm radio,only 3140mah battery,maybe still not support raw/dng and small sensor camera...

  • Yes, this is a very odd design which Sony is trying to set the trend. 😱

  • The specs are quite good. Sony did nice job by including a triple camera set up.

  • Yeah but nobody holds their phone vertically unless they're using it in a landscape orientation. The 68mm width is what makes the 5 compact.

  • 5.7" Screen with bigger Battery please! Maybe slightly more narrow like 65mm.

  • oh come on.. :D just look at the youtube videos, online reviews... sony lags behind on camera software department, it is obvious I don't need dxomark to tell me that.. even xiaomi k20 pro will be cheaper than this phone with better camera.. poco f1 has better camera than xperia 1

  • perfect width. height... good enough. thickness... good enough. If it is good taking pictures, it will be the perfect phone for me.

  • Xperia cameras are really not that great, Sony also know that please check out the sample images

  • 16:9 is Good but 18:9 looks more beautiful, of course without a notch. 19/21:9 looks like a remote control

  • The only advantage the 5 has over the XZ3 is a better CPU and two extra cameras, and it costs 850€ (at least), the XZ3 has 960fps slow-motion, wireless charging, both speakers are front facing and it costs 500€, it's a better buy in my opinion.

  • Yes, because companies pay dxomark to make themselves look good

  • How it isn't one handed? What kind of baby hands do you have? The phone even has a 1 handed mode

  • Now say that for the Note 10

  • Are we still listening to the f***ing company that everyone pays to make their smartphones look good called dxomark? Really?

  • and as a reminder, a 6" 16:9 phone has a 14% greater screen area than a 6.1" 21:9 phone, although scaling issues make the difference "feel" even bigger imo.

  • It's too small and too big at the same time with their ridiculous, unbalanced aspect ratio.

  • Sorry but you can't just ignore the whole height dimension when calling a phone "compact". This phone is vertically as big as a 6 inch 16:9 phone (using huawei mate 8 as a reference)

  • Looks promising. Will be an amazing upgrade from my Z5

  • Yes, and that is how small you can expect UI elements, your keyboard and videos in portrait mode to be scaled. The width of the screen determines that. I really don't understand how narrow phones became a thing. 16:9 for me.

  • Pros: screen size and quality phone size looks resolution Cons: battery no 3.5mm price probably camera for the price

  • "...The new phone borrowed the trio of cameras from the Xperia 1..." Nope, Sony lover here, but only untill I got samsung and saw what a good camera is (still hating samsung for different reasons, but camera ain't one).. So according to you - Sony has the best camera but is a victim of conspiracy theory from dxomark and similar sites ? :D

  • Fairly promising flagship in the compact size everyone wanted. (To an extent.) Great, colour accurate panel with deep blacks, the S855 SoC in tow with a generous 6 GB of RAM. The small battery was to be expected for this form factor, and it's perfectly fine for most people. It's going to get the most out of its 3140 mAH cell with Sony's excellent battery management software. Triple camera system seems to be the same as the tall Xperia 1, so we can expect a good all-rounder.

  • Is it xperia 1 or 5 ? And world camera leading tech inside the Xperia by Sony Alpha and Sony Venice . DxO just sony hater just like you.

  • nice width but 21:9 aspect ratio is crazy and useless innovation. youtube videos are mostly 16:9. how about movies? well, who still watch long movie in phone now. most people cast it to tv or use smart tv's apps.

  • Ummm yes... worse camera.. did you even read the xperia 1 camera review from dxomark on this very site ?

  • People like you just rant about everything. It's not 4k screen, it's full HD+. Did you read the damn specs?

  • I think there is a fan base for Xperia Compact phones for those persons who don't spend much time on their phones. If someone need sth. like iPhone XS but don't like IOS or need android, this Xperia 5 could be a work of art in your pocket.

  • FHD+ resolution & 3140 mah wont be problematic beside sony's software optimisation much much better . And yes its phone not phablet . Ergonomically its best user friendly not bulky .

  • Worse camera ? So much hate dude why ?

  • Such a nice phone . Sony's design philosophy is brilliant. Ergonomically best with sleek and classy design. And oh yea that 10 bit fantastic OLED. Sony take my money & release it.

  • Boring Designer

  • You call this small?!? This is more than 2cm higher than X and XZ compact series. 3mm wider. Compact is X, XZ, iPhone 4,4S etc. This is too big for a compact phone. Just that people start using fckng phablets in the last years, deasn't mean that everyone like it. I want one-hand operated phone. This phone is not one-handed.

  • since when is a phone with a height of 158mm compact? is an inch taller they the previous compact sony phones... and comparable in size with the previous full size flagships

  • since this is similar to s10e but worse camera and battery it should be lower priced than samsung. but knowing sony, it will be more expensive and it will flop :( just sad

  • Perfect size, I was waiting for that for a long time! It's got all what is needed!

  • Love it Sony

  • This is NOT compact.

  • Too small? Weren't you people crying for a compact version?

  • 3140mAh😂

  • How Sony thinks that a phone without DNG/RAW support is not a TOTAL waste of natural resources is beyond me. As usual, no DNG/RAW = no buy.

  • Wow from me

  • Nothing spectacular. At least they was leader in camera department...

  • This phone is narrower than a 16:9 5" phone, approximately =4.9" 16:9

  • Only 6GB ram and only 3140 mAh on a 6,1 inch screen and again 4K screen is a complete humbug on a 6 inch phone. Not even the person on radar on new your city airport spot differences between FHD and 4K on a 6 inch screen. I am not impressed again.

  • How on earth is there a market for this ridiculous aspect ratio, yet a 2019 phone in time-tested, traditional 16:9 is too much to ask... Don't buy this. 6.1" in 21:9 is tiny. Similar in area to 5.6" and smaller than 5.5" in terms of UI scaling.

  • Nice as compact...

  • finally a love phone from sony hope camera this type is top of the mark

  • Amazing job!
