I love the phone for what it doesn't do: it's a great phone for people who want very much to NOT be connected to email, social media, rich Web, etc. And I suppose I can be a little sanguine about the cost --I found the phone on Ebay for substantially less that the jaw-dropping SRP. One thing: does anyone have any advice on setting up the SMS profile with AT&T in the US? I'm changing carriers and can't seem to find the right profile on Samsung or B&O's sites...

Hi all, i went to a B&O store and get a look at the serene mobile. Before i give you my conclusion i have to say that i work for over 10 years as a user interface designer. From my perspective the UI of the serene is well done. All screen i have seen on the phone show that the interaction concept was well developed. The horizonal screen space allows for better reading and it really charms the eyes. The execution speed of the phone is also good. The only waiting time i experienced is if you activate the camara, then it takes up to 3 seconds until you can take the first shot. The material of the serene is plastic, but a special one. It really feels expensive. The weight of the phone is exactly what i would call "on par", not heavy, and not too lightweight. The wheel operates like a charm. The sound quality is good, compared to my current Nokia E60 equal good. But the serene is from 2005, my E60 from 2008. The best thing on the serene is of course its look&feel and the motor operated opening mechanism. This phone is for people who want to have something unique in their hands. The price from B&O is about 1000� in Germany. But if you look at other B&O items this really is close to a bargain. The serene is surely a fashion phone, maybe more for ladies than for the boys. So... i will buy my wife one, and maybe she occasionally let me use it, if i am lucky. B&O and Samsung, well done piece of work, also from the UI part. And yes, it really was made for phone calls and not for Mp3, RingTones maniacs, YouTube, Videos, etc. etc. If you like to sit near a fireplace with a glass of wine thinking about your life and what might be in the future, this phone is maybe for you. Beside, B&O also developed a new phone, the serenata. Well, i like the serene more. My advice if you want to buy a serene: Go to your next B&O store and try out the serene by yourself.

I'm in Australia and just bought the Serene amongst all the iPhone 3G hype. I own an iPod and a MacBook Pro so even though the iPhone is cool I don't need it. The Serene is definitely a designer phone. It's not intentioned to compete with the current range of cheap plastic phones on the market so while some people may question it's price tag compared to it's features the best I can say is it is like choosing to buy your jeans from K-Mart or D&G, they're still jeans but quality, craftsmanship and style is the difference between the two. The round dial is a breeze to use for both navigating the menu and sending text messages. It takes a little getting use to, but within a day I had it down pat. Sound quality is amazing! I have never used a mobile phone that is so crystal clear and with great reception (but then it is Bang & Olufsen). Bluetooth set up was no issue with my Mac pairing within seconds and setting up SMS and MMS was a breeze because the Serene already has it within it's software for each mobile network, all I had to do was select which one I am using in the settings menu and click activate. The Serene is light weight and compact so carrying it around in my pocket or in my hand is a pleasure. The casing has a velvety smooth finish that is truly unique and is scratch proof as is the tempered glass screen. The Serene is a phone that states "I am successful and refuse to blend in with the crowd". Owning one is a pleasure. You get what you pay for and I certainly did with my Serene.

Lets be frank shall we. This phone is not for those who care about texting with or taking photos with their phone. This is an charming phone and does just what it was made to do..function as a mobile phone, and look chic. There is no need for those "teenage ammenities" when the point is to say, "I'm successful!" It stands out in a crowd as tasteful, elegant and posh. The functionality of it in itself is brilliant and for those few individuals who wish NOT to hear "back that thang up" in a crowded subway, this is your phone. At roughly $1300 one can certainly feel good at turning up their nose when placing a call.

This phone is not meant to be for "the masses" it's rare and exclusive. It's not the most fully loaded phone iv'e ever owned but by god is it the coolest. the camera not bad but awkward to use. If you can afford this phone you will probably have a 10meg+ SLR camera, a 60gig ipod and a nice car (BMW)+ and a fit bird. Seriously guys, a daewoo matiz has elec windows, aircon, airbags, abs and even sat nav..... the E-class Jaguar doesn't. Which would you choose though??? I rest my case. Thank you. I'm now off to the Opera in my BMW.

This is PATHETIC. I'm sorry but I see NO logic in buying this thing whatsoever if there is a phone that exists with WIDESCREEN movies, youtube, 8 gigs, full HTML browser, touchscreen, etc. for HALF of what this ugly thing costs. If it was less expensive then of course but for what this thing costs it should come with ALL of what I just named with more. It cant even play MP3s! IT DOESNT EVEN HAVE REAL RINGTONES! If I were to pay $1000+ for a cellphone I'd expect it to do a bit more than just make calls - even if it does look very nice ;) Anyway, some people seem to have more money than common sense. Its so expensive because it's Bang & Olufsen.Infact there were discussions not to have a Camera in this phone and ended up having a VGA not the Hi-Fi Mega Pixel or Auto Focus.Its Expensive just for the reason that it's made by Bang & Olufsen and it's a mark of prestige to own a Bang & Olufsen product.

Just to be totally clear about the previous post: 1. Switch on the phone 2. Press O.K. to get Settings 3. Select Phone Settings (menu 9.2) 4. Select Anykey Answer (menu 9.2.6) Job done - you will be able to open the phone and see who is calling before using any key (except ok or end) to answer the call. Hope this helps! Chris D

Hi, just wondering, i have received my serene today, still waiting for the charge to complete. however can someone tell me how to open it when auto open is selected. i know its automatic, but to start it off, what do you need to do, do you need to open it a little then it continues automatically. the manual mentions semi auto, but reviews say give it a nudge, so im not sure im doing it right, if anyone can let me know, it would be much appreciated

well i wonder how many comments come from people who own the phone,for my part the call quality is first rate,the screen is just the best i have seen and i have owned a lot of phones the pictures look just great alought only a simple vga,yes its not simple to use but the dial really is easy,my only gripe is, the reversed screen does not allow you to make calls,unless you reverse the phone whilst ringing ,pictures remain the other way up when viewing in table mode ,and it would have been nice to have a ringtone of your choice,belive me the auto opening does not get boring,its not a phone for tec heads but thats not the point of this phone it really is a thing of beauty

Well i suppose i shouldn't shout at people for saying what they think about the phone. This is an opinion section after all! The phone does exactly what it was designed to do... make calls, send the occasional text and look good. I think it's a great example of what can be done with radical design and functionality. Most people who moan about this phone would buy it if it cost �100 but it is priced for exclusivity, therefor CHAVS can't buy it! Rant over! :)

Bought the phone today, and all I can say is - now I totally get it. I was pretty skeptical before I saw it in person. I own a lot of B&O and I must say that this is the nicest mobile phone design I have ever seen. It looks and feels spectacular. The display is phenominal, and I couldn't believe the quality of the camera - I know it's only VGA, but man, the images look nicer than many other higher resolution phones. It's pricey, but I was sold as soon I saw it... (it's a gift for the Mrs...)

well i have had the phone for a long time now(5 months) and i can recomend it just for what it is, a high quality, beautiful sw phone, has 2 set backs (only !)and it really is rare to c only 2 set backs / 1- is that u can not c the caller before u open the flip and there is not feature to set to a passive flip 2- its quite difficult to get used to writing sms text with the circular key pad

Recently purchased the phone, I have had PDA phones, a Sony Ericsson S710a with a load of functions but this one is by far my favorite. Classy, Elegant and the automatic closing and opening has that WOW factor that no one else has. The lack of features dont bother me. this handsets display is 256k colour QVGA. There is no GSM phone which gets better than this except 16 million colour displays by Panasonic, but you really cant tell the difference. Sharp 904's 2.4in VGA 256k colour screen is the only one to surpass Serene's display.

i have a samsung d600, and i recently bought this Serene. its a very, very, very clasy looking handset. for people like me who are in Suits all the time, it doesnt get any better. I also have a nokia 8801. The Serene is a bit more expensive (at the current price) but if you see it in person, and open the flip, you'll understand why. The D600 has good build, but has the occasional creak in its casing, this however doesnt happen with the serene, I must emphasize. Comparing to a D600, which costs 2.5 times less, the features of this Serene is rubbish. The camera (VGA), no audio player etc. But for people like me, who look for sheer style, It doesnt get better than the Serene. For the people speaking rubbish about its functions have not yet seen for felt the Serene in hands- for this phone, functions is irrelivant.

This is a great phone for those people Samsung/B & O try to target in their little niche. Businessman don't care about sms, at least, in the Netherlands less then 3% of all business phone traffic is devoted to other servies then speech. So a crappy keyboard is no problem, as long as you can quickdial! Ringtones, Mp3's, hightech camera's, forget all that, who uses it anyway, certainly not the ever busy manager. Less is more in perspect of features and options. This phone is sophisticated, classy, exclusive and expensive. Just about the four things it is, or pretends to be all about in the upperclass of our society. If you don't like it, you're not one of them. I'm not one of them, but still appriciate this extraordinary piece of innovative design. However, as a phone for daily use by regular consumers it's of course way to expensive and lacking feautures. I would never buy it, except at a moment were the price was my last concern. Thing I do wonder about; Is there a car-accessoire for handsfree-calling? Is interaction with PDA's possible?

as far as i'm concerned, design is definitely unique, don't really think B&O/Samsung thought about the usability issue for this model. Just speaking about dialing a number, it's easy to dial a number using one hand and finger with common keypads, for this one i'm not too sure, since the numbers are so far apart. as far as i'm concerened, those that buy this phone due to it's exclusive design and repeatedly justifying it's riduclous high price and that they can afford by demeaning others who can't - that's an inferority complex. even buying this won't compensate for your small .....shoe size

I just saw this phone today, and I was impressed but at the same time not totally convinced. On one hand is the nice size, weight and overall feel, not cheap at all. Secondly, you have to watch/listen to the opening mechanism to really appreciate how much care has been taken into designing this phone. It�s simply stunning. I own 2 B&O phones so I immediately felt at home with the touch wheel (pretty much a la iPod). The screen interface seemed very simple conpared to Nokia�s etc, but the design is pure elegance. It is possible (and easy) to change the orientation of the screen by pressing and holding a button for a second, so that�s no real problem. It has the usual features of a mid-high end phone without the gimmicks. The camera was nothing special, but then again there are MANY camera phones if that�s what you are after. The charging base is a sight to behold, especially when the phone is placed on top. Overall, it�s an extravagant design but well thought out and extremely tempting as it feels different to all phones out there. However, there is something missing... I still don�t know what it is but I need to be sure before I buy it.

Its a great phone, for those of you who are looking for 3G, Games, MP3 Player and all other stuff like that, this phone is NOT for you. This for is discreet yet elegant and its made to talk and communicate, what do you know thats what a phone is REALLY for. I work B&O and ive used the phone. Desing and menu functions are great, a couple hours with it and you will feel like you've used it forever. It opens mechanically and that is just so cool to look at. The docking station is elegant and slim as well. This phone was not desinged for everyone, B&O customers will buy it because they know the brand and they know they are getting a quality product. The price is not too bad if you compare it to BeoCom 2 cordless home phone for almost the same price. As usual B&O on a leage of its own.

OK. I have just seen one; held it, seen it's features and I am really impressed. To some it will be another phone by a popular japanese maker. Those who live perhaps on a different financial level would never buy B&O anyway so by default are not likely purchasers of this little gem. But then they would not be in the market for a new Bentley either. Ignore them if you wish to be different and can afford this beautiful piece of design. Go see one. Then judge. But not in terms of money. Use sheer quality as your yardstick. I have placed my order; two weeks to wait by all accounts.

The Danish firm Bang & Olufsen ( B & O ) had created the design to Samsung. And i would tell you guys, it would be a very expensive phone because B&O Had created the design, B & O would take 1000's of doloars for it, the took onces 3000 USD for a harddisk (8000 DKK) to a computer ' a design harrdisk' and there televersions cost ALOT! .Well im also from denmark where the firm startet, and im so unlucky because Moto Razr V3x is not comming to us :( Because 3 had not acceptet it because of thats battery living time omg,

So of course there are no games, or bright flashing lights. 2) B&O build their business on selling simple things, extremely well done for eye-watering prices. 3) The design looks like nothing else - so those without imagination will automatically hate it. It's perhaps not that surprising that the people who hate it seem to be the people who can't spell or who think that gay is an insult. 4) Is it worth it? Probably not. Will it sell? I've seen it IRL and tried it for a few minutes... It's actually quite nice. It will take a couple of hours to get used to it but after that you probably won't want to go back to using nokia or sonyericsson. That is, of course, if you are willing to pay the price...

Well I�ve played with the prototype for almost 20 minutes, and I had a chance to test almost every thing. First of all � it is amazing; it looks the same as on the pics but feels absolutely different. It is really small and stylish. The screen positioning makes no discomfort, it has an amazing camera, in spite of the fact that it is just VGA the picture quality on the screen looks groundbreaking. Menu and main function are very well made, the inversion design looks luxurious. However the phone has one but very big drawback, - ringtones! Actually the phone is considered to have 12 ringtones, but actually it has only 3 (you can listen to them on the serenemobile.com) others are just variations of frequency,but with the same sound. But still it will be the best phone on the market before until B&O makes another one....

up to now i have always liked b&o products, yet this toy is cheap compared to vertu or some japaneese designer phones, so people think this is a phone to talk with not to play with, we have lost track of things it a basic phone and it should stay that way!! if you want compatability to dect etc. in your home then buy serene if you want to say hello to your wife, freind or business partner its more than enough but at the end you hear your partner in the best quality ever!! off course some items may be missing but hey do we need all that crab?? THE only thing that disturbs me... is the samsung logo, and i have found a way of getting rid of it...

allmost everybody is missing the point, it doesn't need games , it doesn't need mp3. All the phones on the market are ugly , sound ugly and are just plain plastic toys. I cannot afford this phone and i doubt that i would ever buy one , but i do understand the concept , just compare it with a Harley Davidson , too expensive for most people ,and if you use your brain it will never be worth the price because it doesn't have like new technology or whatever but it has a certain style and it is just unique , either you like it or you hate it .

Not surprised at the reaction. I think it misses for a couple of reasons. 1. I wouldn't have bothered with the camera at all. 2. I think the materials used are not special enough. It should have been all aluminium or even titanium, and anodised rather than plastic. Otherwise, the design is certainly different and certainly causes reaction. Better some reaction than indifference. I believe the B&O philosophy is to appeal to some but to provoke a reaction in all. It would seem it has succeeded

Man look at this batty phone it has no mp3 player, video recorder/player, no games, no 3G and a 640x480 resolution camera. You'd expect Samsung to make a better phone than the previous models. The design is also very crap. I hope Samsung will make better phones than this in the future. I give this phone a 3/10 rating.

This one is a nice phone. Not sure of the idea that the screen has to be in the bottom and can be switch if desired. Camera on phones aren't my thing since they haven't really made one that you can't see the pixelations when shown on computer screen(I've seen k750's photo examples, very very clear and bright but look closely and you still see it). So I'd rather have sony's 5 mega pixel digital cameras. B&O's speakers are awesome so I do hope this would have crisp sounds. Then again it all matters to reception cuz if you can only get one bar you'd still cut in and out or have really low volume. I've seen B&O's home phones and they're usually long and narrow an has really nice features. I think they should've encorporated it here too like the ability to control the tv and sound system with it or something like that. The only thing interesting here is the round keys but that makes the phone very femini than masculine, almost like a compact mirror for women. The cradle is something I do like, it's meant for you to display the phone. I do hope this is only the preliminary design since it's not going to be a best seller I.M.O. Then again B&O products are pretty expensive so even if they do change the design it would still be a pricy phone.

serene vs other phon, he he he, spec of this phone is a little bit lower than average being posted but the manufacturer of the display and sounds are among the best if not the world's best, so expect amazing screen display and sound quality for this phone. Do not be fooled of the pictures you seen on the net for you can appreciate it once you have it personally if you have the bucks. I think it is not about the spec but i guess it is about its jewels hiding inside the phone.Sorry for who cannot afford, just say bad things about this phone for you cannot own one.

1st...ok this phone got a good reso of 320x240 n 256k colour BUT,dont think of beating the supreme graphics oi panasonic 16 million colours 2nd...vga camera.too cheap.hand phones nowadays are either installed with 1,1.3 or 2 MP camera.only when the company wanna make an economic phone specially for the "not so rich" people then they'll use vga or cif camera to cut the cost 3rd...design is awful.i think even the old classic 8910i of nokia looks far more elegant n more unique than this...dunno what "ART" 4th...1000 euros??this is insane.i wont waste so much money just for something "special" 5th...3 hours talk time??this is bad...real bad...with a poor/weak specification it should be able to handle up to 6 hours.this proves that this phone is using crap lithium ion batteries even if they state 800 mAh 6th...no card slot??what the... 7th...no games...what the... 8th...12 polyphonics??no mp3??what the...nowadays most of the phones are >40 polyphonics even for economic phones like samsung x480 9th...i dunno what else to say...dunno which brainless rich guys gonna buy this phone n show off...but i'll be sure to laugh at them.not respect them :p it is so obvious that this phone...is...really...a...piece...of...master "ART"...ooopppsss...i mean a thrash...or crap...or...whatever...

In contrary to most of you, this phone is great. We have to look from a Scandinavian point of view, I mean this might look strane or even absurd for Americans, but this is very nice. This is something revolutionary. Samsung and B&O have proven to the world that the buttons of a mobile does not have to be below the screen! The screen is simply great. 1.9 inch with 240 x 320 px, which means more than 6500 pixels in 1cm x 1cm. The camera resolution is quie enough as the concept of the phone is simplicity.

You don't understand, this phone is being sold on the principle of design. It will be brought out under the Bang and Olufsen name, and for that reason alone, will sell. It certainly will not be worth the 1000 euros that is being asked, but neither is the nokia 8800 worth the money you have to pay for it, and thats designed by nokia! It's definitely something different. I quite like it, its priorities is much different than other phones, which is to cram a whole lot of crap that you dont really need anyways.. I am interested, however, to try it and see if it really does make communicating & phone usage easier. If it works like a dream, doesnt hang, and as brilliantly simple as the sky, then its price is definitely worth it. User satisfaction is something you cant really put a price on, cant you?
