Your phone perhaps may be unable to read the current format of your memory card. Back-up your files at your computer and format your card. After formatting, transfer the compatible back-up files from your computer to the memory card of your phone. Try it! it worked for me on SD Memory Cards. Do not use SDHC and SDXC memory cards.

If you have purchased any unlock phone there is a possibility that the internet and MMS of the cannot be use since it is specifically made for a specific service provider. Another thing is that t mobile have their own settings and configuration for internet and MMS. That are the reasons why the phone internet is no working.

uh.. just got my new 802SH.. this fone realy does look complicated, but after a days use i find it intersting and cool... but i encounterd a problem with it, wen i put a 2gig SD it just indicated the SD sign on top but it does not show the contents.. well gets that it, i just found ways on how to install and put things in it (like songs and pics) and now im still enjoying its presence

Hello i just got the 802. i am using T-Mobile in USA and everything works fine EXCEPT that i CAN recieve when someone send me message from a PC email account, BUT can not reply or send to a PC email account. i have all the configuration done via Tmobile web, and i can even go on T-Zone by pressing the Vodafone live botton. also when i turn OFF the phone and turn on again, i will have to re-configure EVERYTHING!! oh i forgot,this has been used for video calling and 3g capabilities by SMART(internet)and if you're in the dark you have lights for the cam or even the flaslight. I love the world clock and calendar too! to answer some questions below: 1.you can't assign an mp3 as your ring tone 2. 9999 is the default code to anything 3. you can download stuff using a mmc reader 4. can play music using a headset or not

pinoy fan. Standard Sharp 802 handset code required for bluetooth file exchange is 9999. Once u have paired phones, this should work, no wukkas.

-pinoy fan- that is very normal if you transfer file from your phone to aother or vice versa via bluetooth the phone asking for a pascode just enter anydigit number to your phone same with other phone..it serve as a password from both unit to access to each other... i hope it helpz..

hay ive been reading da past post in here bout tha mp3 stuff n i downloaded the ATS-MA5-SMAF and the WSC-MA2-SMAF as the sound decorator i can convert my WAV files into MMF by simple draging it into the MA2 n it converts it automatically for me but what i dont get is the whole how to use the MA5 after youve dne the conversion on WAV to MMF..i put the MMF file without having to use the MA5 n the sound isnt loud enough on my fone n doesnt sound very clear..can sumone help me n explain to me..thnx..PS if that sk8er dude can explain id b gud he seems to kno how to do it or f any1 knws plz feel free to tell me thnx..

To all who had just recently bought this phone, i'd lyk to share these; *For Euro Version -can play selected MP3's (192kbps) -can set MP3(.mmf file) as ringtone(trimmed up to 300kb or 25sec only) using WSD program (can be downloaded at yamaha site, see prev post) -message succesfully sent cannot be saved @ sent items folder -cannot activate MMS/GPRS manually( can be thru network operator e.g., SET GPRS N70 to 211 for smart user) -no problem on phonebook setting *For Japan Version -have re-provisioning setting -cannot play MP3(need to convert to +AAC format, see prev. post) -MMS/GPRS can be activated manually(see prev. post for complete setting) -have problem on phonebook arrangement Hope this can help.. hello hope i could help & i also have aquestion of my own. MMS/GPRS SETTINGS: for globe you can use the N70 settings. for smart i don't know...GLOBE: text GO N70,,1234 to 2915... for sharp phones that keeps on flashing the "please wait" or "initializing" its safe to have it reporgrammed on your trusted cellphone clinics...make sure to inquire regarding the version they're using to flash it..it's quite expnsive though...plus it's much safer to use a desktop charger (and it's much cheaper)...online chargers can corrupt your programs especially your battery during power surges & would usually destroy the socket where the charger is plugged... most sharp802 can't use mp3 tones as mssage alerts you have to find out what version it is and make sure your mp3's are genuine or copyrighted... for those using bluetooth try using 9999 or 1111 as codes to receive and transfer files...to those using your PC or laptops its much safer to use a car reader... MY QUESTION: i'm from the philippines...is there a place where i can have my casing or housing changed? please text me at 0916-527-4448 or e-mail at [email protected] you...i tried reading the posts but i can't seem to find an answer...thank you...your reply is badly needed...

to ervie: about your GPRS settings, what's you network operator, smart or globe? if smart, sorry i don't know.. if globe, go to connectivity, internet settings, application and then delete all profiles on your WAP and MMS settings.. then send this to 2951, GO N70,,1234 upon receiving the confirmation from globe, send 1234 as password.. wait for another confirmation and you'll receive an IOTA provisioning, DO NOT PRESS 'BACK'.. press 'OPTIONS' then 'APPLY' a provisioning meter will flash on your display..and upon finishing, you're ready to go! what's not good is that whenever you turn off your fonw, you need to do everything all over again.. tsk.. hope these helps! thanks!

sharp 802 rules.. the mp3 loudspeaker sound may not be as fine as my SE p900 or w550i, but guys this is a fone, not an mp3 jukebox! what i like best with 802 is the mp4 video recorder and player..my nokia and SE can't beat that.. my daughter's is a majorette and she's captured on video very finely even her fast hands! imagine that on a fone! and it's on full screen gosh! hehe.. all i can say is that, this fone's great!

before my 802SH couldn't play MP3 files. i had it sent to a phoneshop in hongkong. when i got it back it was functioning well and the sound is really great! but one thing for sure, it can't use a 2Gig SD card, but haven't tried a 1Gig yet. its fine with a 512Mb though...

I think this needs SD-Jukebox to load MP3 because it uses SD-Audio (I think). That means you need a SD card reader and a copy of SD-Jukebox. I've been told that you specifically require a Panasonic SD card reader, because of its copy-protection method.

ive been having this phone for quite sometime now and im pretty well impressed with its feature..everythings working same as with my gprs and my mms.i can actually send and recieve pictures using globe 3g.to start just simply type GO N70,,1234 then send it to 2951 then u should recieve the settings for it then make sure that ur load does not go below 25 pesos or else u wont be able to send and recieve mms.by the way the 3g feature actually works ive tried with my mom and damn the front camera is really far better than the ones in the market as of now.im not sure if its a mega pixel thou or just vga.but the image in the screen is so vivid and vibrant..anyway hope this helps.im exited to discover more features day by day.ohhh by the way u can actually send multiple messages.or i guess u all know it already.have fun

front camera cant be used for taking pictures. only for video call. for smart gprs settings i've posted all the settings on this forum before. just browse all the pages ok? they say it wont work with euro firmware but i don't think anyone has tried setting it manually with their euro 802. i was able to make it work on my japanese 802 before. you guys might wanna check if those settings will work with euro as well instead of getting it from your network again and again. for music playback, non drm protected mp3s wont work for japanese. (that means pirated mp3s and such). you have to convert it to aac format first. you can do that with itune software. just make sure when you convert it to aac its not drm protected anymore ok? to make it simple:(japanese firmware) drm protected mp3----->ok drm protected aac----->not ok non drm protected mp3------>not ok non drm protected aac------>ok

by the way, i tried the suggestion here abt gprs/mms settings: My GPRS and MMS works again...delete all the data in your internet setting and again activate it experimentally as follows: SET GPRS N70 send 211 SET MMS N70 send 211 GPRS ON send 333 MMS ON send 333 An activation key will be sent to you by the operator and just enter the pin: 1234. It will automatically set the internet settings in your phone...(Note: pls do not turn-off your phone as GPRS/MMS will not work again like what ive experienced b4.) Unfortunately, i haven't received any activation key or watsoever :( I just received a thank you note from SMART :(

You can visit the nearest Globe HUB or Service Center near you. and for the Vodafone LIve settings, i'm sorry to tell you that it can't be removed. you have to access your bookmarks if you're going to visit sites. How come my sent messages are not saved in the sent items of my Sharp 802sh? The Sent Items folder is forever empty no matter how many messages I successfully send? Am I the only one experiencing this problem? My Sharp 802sh is a Vodafone from Japan and I just had it unlocked here in the Philippines. Is it safe to have it flashed in the hopes of having the mp3 player, 3GP video call, GPRS and MMS functions work properly? Please someone advise me on this before I have my phone flashed. Thanks

Thanks le_on_23. I will try what you suggested. I'm more concerned about not being able to transfer the videos in .asf format to my computer. I tried accessing it via the handset manager using bluetooth but the handset manager program can't detect my sharp 802sh unit on bluetooth. I can't say that the bluetooth in my computer is not working because the cellphone unit is able to detect it when pairing and sending photos. It's just the videos in .asf format I'm having problems with -sharpjewel

you need to have a card reader and connect it to ur pc..u can just copy and paste the mp3 file from ur pc to sd card...make sure that u save it in the sounds and ringtones folder. if u dont have card reader, u can have it installed using ur SD card to any celfone center but U will be charged of it(i think p100 for 5 songs). -le_on_23-

Hi! Can anyone teach me how to send or upload videos in .asf format taken by the Sharp 802sh. I chose this option coz videos taken in .asf format are way clearer and utilizes the full view of the display screen, but unfortunately the saved .asf files don't appear and play as easily as .3gp files. Does anyone know how to tranfer these .asf video files. They are saved in the SD memory card but they are not visible when the videos folder is opened. They are only visible when accessed via the media player. Also, can anyone explain why the SMS messages I send are not saved in the Sent Items folder? Hope someone can help me out on this. EU version can play selected mp3's...internal memory of phone is only 8MB so U need to buy an SD card for you to install more songs. also, U cannot transfer mp3 file to ur phone using other phone and even from its memory card. you can play mp3 in the media player, just key in OPTION > OPEN MUSIC then select MEMORY CARD. -le_on_23-

GPRS/MMS is up and running. i activate it using SET GPRS N6600 to 211 i still have one question :) since im using uk firmware, can i play mp3 files? if so, how? do i need a mp3 player to be installed aside the media player installed on my phone? or do i have to have SD card because i dont have any, im just using the default memory of the phone.

to aMq: are you sure you already got euro version? try typing this at standby screen *01763*8371# then tell me whatever your phone shows. i believe that sms problem when going over 160 is problem only to japanese versions or maybe with japanese testmode version. but if you already have full version of euro then that shouldn't be a problem at all. so please check if your phone is already on euro. to djbuan: dude sorry if i wasn't able to give you a reply on hofo. yeah, i can send and receive mms using those settings i posted. please double check if you have set your settings correct. the settings i posted should work. just recently i was able to use the streaming capability of it. i just can't post the settings right now. promise i will post it here and at hofo. to deejay4: im not sure what version is that. try doing this. go type some sms. if you enter space by hitting the zero key then probably you're using euro. if you're using the directional pad then that's japanese. about mms gprs just try using the settings i posted. some says that euro version can't do it manually like i did at my post. you have to do it over the air like sending N70 to 211 and such. but if you're using jp then just do it manually with the settings i posted. that should work. cheers

it basically depends on your preferences. i believe japanese firmware will give you full wallpaper, do browsing with no problem with the settings, but cannot play mp3 but can play aac format so all you have to do is convert all your mp3s to aac. you can use itunes for that. uk version on the otherhand will give you mp3 playback and easier sms typing since you can just enter space by hitting the zero key. well if you don't do alot of mms or gprs then uk version will be perfect. but if browse a lot, like me, then might as well go with japanese.

Borgis, Here's what ive experienced using a Japan & UK version; Before i was using a Japan version bt i have flashed it to UK version to load mp3's... Now, my phone cannot activate manually the GPRS/MMS settings and can be activated only over the air. The problem was, when you turned off your phone, GPRS/MMS wont work again. So i have to repeat activation again and again... The Japanese version can be activated manually the internet settings which i learned from previous posts. Also, UK version does not work the sent items folder even if you select in the message settings 'none' in the auto delete. Furthermore, UK version cannot hide the network operator (SMART) in the screen which i did in my Japan version. Thats what ive experienced so far...but i still prefer to use UK version as it can play mp3's. I'd rather choose to activate again & again the GPRS/MMS than to have no MP3 player at all in Japan version. -le_on_23-

just an idea. maybe if you set your settings over the air, like sending N70 to 211 and such, and reset your phone it will not work again. maybe someone can try the settings i just posted. just do it manually. when i had my 802 japanese version gprs browsing is no problem. maybe the problem is on setting it over the air. i would recommend that you flash it to euro version as it is easier to use. perfect for pinoy users. it will remove the reprovisioning pop up, you will be able to play mp3, your phonebook will be arranged without problems, and will enable you to send sms longer. about streaming video i also encountered the same problem with my 903. im still trying to find any way for it. btw my first screen name here is mark. just changed to borgis to be more identifiable. hehe

To _le_on_23, I am using euro version 1.4. Tried to use MT V3x setting and it works for my phone.However, whenever, u restart the phone, it will not function again. I think for this model, u need to use the setting sent over by operator, if u use the manual setting it will not work at all. Hope this helps. :-)

Jane, I also experienced that, i cant use now MMS/GPRS since i turned off my phone. but i keep on discovering how it will work again. Before, i was using a Japan version and I have activated MMS/GPRS successfully by just manually setting it at the phone, but when I converted it Europe version I find it hard to activate both MMS/GPRS. To: All About MP3 ringing tone, you have to do the ff: 1. convert MP3 file to Wave file. 2.open the wave file using WSD program and cut it up to 300KB(25 seconds) only. 3. The cut MMF file will now read by the phone and sounds almost same with MP3. (see previous posts for the details). This is an alternative way to have MP3 like ringing tones in your phone. You cannot move MP3 file from ur memory card to your phone as the memory is too large. _le_on_23-

Le_on_23, regarding on your font problems, sad to say you can't do anything about it. Though you can make the font size bigger only for creating messages, but its useless so forget it because it will reset to its default size once you create a new message (well that's what happened to me)... About your sent messages not being sent, go to Messages > Seetings > General Settings > Auto Delete > None ========== I's just like to post a question to my fellow pinoys out there using this fone... @noli after you configured the settings just have ur gprs activated.just send MMS ON to 333 and GPRS ON to 333. @noel i tried sending pictures from my 802 to another phone through mms and it was ok. i havent tried sending one to my phone yet. try sending an mms to ur self and if it was sent successfully and you received it successfully then there should be no problem in doing that with other phones. just make sure that their phones are also mms capable and active. about ur phone book, you have to edit all of the entries in your phone book. scroll over one entry then click OPTIONS, then EDIT, then scroll over READING, then type there the name you would like to tagged on that entry. you'll only do that everytime you copy an entry from ur sim card to ur phone memory. but if you save an entry directly to the phone memory then you dont have to do the editing. remember that the READING is case sensitive. it will affect the order of the entries. what i did is that all entries in my phone book are all in small caps because all entries that starts with a capital letter will be the first on the list regardless of the alphabetical order. hope this will help you...=D

hey noel, regarding your querry on phonebook arrangement, make sure that the names are arranged based on first names. make sure that entries are all in the first names. also, don't use special characters (different cases; small CAPS, followed by big CAPS, etc,) it will affect the arrengement.

hi mark. i followed step by step the mms and gprs setting that you have posted. then when i go for mms and gprs activation, the service provider asks to indicate the actual model of the phone. do i need to indicate this actually? for example: SET MMS 802SH then send to 211. then MMS ON to 333. as far i know, nokia, sony erricson, and other supported phones are only applicable for this. other sharp phones models are not included i think. ive called up smart customer service and they said this kind of phone cannot be unlocked by them and we can only use this phone thru SMS messaging and voice calling only. another thing, when im replying to a message, the message i write is automatically classified as MMS message. As a result, it fails to send. What i do is to exit and go to create new message to classify the message as SMS message then it sends. Have you able to send a picture via MMS and WAP tones via Bluetooth?. Coz my phone cannot receive WAP tones only ring tones,created videos and pictures.maybe i should activate MP3 setting.Can you help me bro? thanks..

ur correct blink. the correct home for the proxy settings should be . also, double check on the port number. smart will give you 9201 as the port number because it works for most phones, however, for some phones like nokia and this phone port number should be at 8080. just follow the instructions i posted step by step. be careful that you follow them all just exactly as it is. to everyone (smart subcribers), if ur still having problems, i suggest that you erase any internet settings or mms settings that has been set to the phone and just manually configure the settings urself instead using the instructions i posted. just be patient with some of its weaknesses. instead, enjoy its good features like good screen display, 1.3mp camera, music player. as far as i know, only sharp has manufatured the best screen for mobile phones. that is something u shld be proud of with ur 802 huh. you can also check with some earlier posts here so u will learn how to enjoy its features. i really love this phone i even upgraded to 903 even if i have to edit manually the settings.hehe.

I tried to look for the solution but i never found. so what i do is i convert the mp3 to wav. file and cut it short and convert that file to smaf. you can find those programs on the internet for free! maybe this could help someone.

hi guys!! i'm from the philippines and i was able to set up, activate and use gprs and mms with this phone. just contact your network provider about the settings. you cannot download the settings over the air so you have to edit it manually. go to CONNECTIVITY menu, then go to INTERNET SETTINGS and then you can do the editting there yourself. just make sure that you have all setting details from your service provider.

you have to clean the camera lens often since it gets dirty often. long time to download pictures to the computer using bluetooth/infrared, havent tried the usb cable though since it is not included in the package. my unit did not come with the 32MB SD card. came from japan. my battery lasts only 24hours. only one bar remains, so it means you have to charge it. was able to flash it. openline woohoo! no gprs and mms though. excellent bluetooth, with safety features. nice phone. you get to see the photo of the one calling you. or even the one sending you an SMS! great!!! you can assign videos as your ringtone/ringvideo! awesome!

SKATER42 No i dont have it wrong, the Japanese firmware has been patched so that you can use Australian sim card and network providers for MMS & GPRS. As i said before GPRS work flawlessly while sending MMS is fine receiving them is sometimes unreliable. It is only the Japanese firmware that has been patched the European hasnt. I have the European running on optus and i cant use it while it works on the patched Japanese firmware which is running on optus too.

I think reception is remarkably well, but I live in a town, as where rural or other country-side towns might lack network infrastructure. CAMERA SOUNDS ============== No, camera sounds can never be turned off (unless you break the speaker). Reasons are simple: you wouldn't want to be spied on with a mobile phone, would you? first of all, use DB to convert the mp3 into a wav, get it from www.dbpoweramp.com *IMPORTANT* when you convert to .wav, set: Bit As Source, FREQ: 24000Hz and 1 Channel (Mono) conversion takes seconds. second, launch Yamaha's WSD (Wave Sound Decorator) open the wav you just converted go to EDIT -> Sample Type -> and uncheck both boxes (Resampling Freq and Mono Conversion) since you did these 2 in DB, its uneccesary. Select MA-5 in the upper left drop down menu, now I have noticed that MA-5 in techno makes it a bit too loud, so you should experiment. after you select the part of the file you wish to play on the phone, go to Edit -> Trimming. this will delete the rest. make sure your file is UNDER 300kb (you can tell the size of the remaining file after trimming by looking at the bottom right part of the program, in the info bar). save as .mmf now, in your Sharp transfer utility (or whatever its called) simply click on the 'Melodies' tab, click browse and find wherever you saved it. select it and click upload to phone. to set this as a ringtone, go to your phones menu (i have a 802SH), My Items -> Sounds & Ringtones (when you upload through your utility, it automatically puts it there). to skater, correct me if there are improvements for this. thanks.

GPRS & MMS =========== As I mentioned before, it is NOT the firmware that restricts access to the GPRS NETWORK! I have used Vodafone & Telstra. On Telstra: My Phone DOES NOT display the Error Message. It cannot connect to the network though. On Vodafone: The Error Message appears and cannot connect to the network. Reasons for this: Every network has a "white list" of phones allowed on the network. A "white list" makes sure that each phone is tested and compatible with the network configurations, and doesn't risk the performance of the network in anyway (or the actual phone). So if your phone is not allowed access to the network, it is due to NETWORK RESTRICTIONS rather than the phone itself. Speak to your network provider about your V802SH. If Vodafone 3G is available in your area it does not mean that your 802SH will work!!! The 802SH is exclusive (only available and usable) in Japan and there is no guarantee that any Network provider will bother to add it to the network. You've got a broad choice of ringtones & ring-videos that you can set, but the menu is static. T-MOBILE & OTHER PROVIDERS ========================== First of all make sure that the settings you have are correct. Most likely this will not matter though since this phone is exclusive to Vodafone Japan. Ask T-Mobile if this handset is/can be added to the "white list" on their network. If the phone is not approved by the network (this goes for ANY network), the server will not allow the 802SH to access the network. You would not be able to access T-Zones even if you would receive GPRS, the phone software is not set-up for this. There is no alternative T-Mobile Software since this phone is a VODAFONE exclusive and only is meant to use Vodafone Live!. This is not a fault of the phone, but a limitation by the network provider. Also have pics of other items, ENJOY ;) This is me starring at the camera for no real reason. Pictur was taken with a flash. Here you can see a Palm tree...yes, I know...it's a tree. This is my states flag back in Germany...ain't it beautiful. A candle with flash and macro. Flowers in macro_mode. See the colour saturation, it's very close to the original. This is my flatmates ADORABLE cat... Another good macro: And these are some friends of mine at McD*****s. (No advertising intended) Night time while being driven around, this shot was through the wind screen. A FEW WORDS ============ A few words to these pictures. Please don't rate me, this is not Hot Or Not...LOL I'm joking. Picture quality will greatly depend on lighting. It is ALL that matters. If you have enough natural day light around you pictures will always turn out good. If it is too bright, go to the lowest exposure. Pictures will be a bit dark, but not as noisey. You can always fix it in photoshop. If you want sharp images in lower lighting use the flash. Macro mode is good, but only has a limited range. It's difficult to focus properly in Macromode. But a pretty good pic is the yellow_flower.jpg. I wouldn't be too dissapointed with this camera, for it's time it was the BEST. Skater42

Messaging & T9 ============== Messaging works a little different on the 802SH. MMS and SMS are one function instead of two. It rather works like writing an e-mail: Depending on the content image or no image, the phone will decide what to send. A SMS or MMS. This will have no effect on the outcome, it's either an SMS or MMS, but can be confusing at first when you don't know what you are doing. It makes sense after a while. The writing input is not officially "T9", though it is labeled as such within the phone and works like the real thing too. Different to the GX30 the 802SH lets you access the Dictionary separately and store new words permanently. The back button is now in a different spot which will take a bit of time to get used to, give it a few messages to type yourself in and make sure you make good use of the manua (will save you time and a big headache). The good about all this is that the messaging centre no longer works separately (SMS, MMS & e-mail) but now puts everything into one mailbox. It reminds me of the layout of "Outlook Express", similar structure. I guess this could be bad for some, but to me it makes decent sense and I can find everything in one place instead of three. Skins & Colors ============== There are officially and inofficially 5 colors available. Full Stop. Red, Blue, Champagne, Gray/Silver & Brown. Covers cannot be changed, if you have a look at how the phone is built you will thank them for it. There is just no way that you could change the complete coloring. To many parts to it... The 802SH is like a piece of unglazed chocolate that is dipped into the chocolate mix... the color is just all over it. In every single corner. Everywhere. The keypad is awesome though, so bright and feels like paper, your fingers will never slip and you wont' ever see finger marks on it. Nice big buttons and at night time i could just look at it forever... I AM A FREAK!!! Vodafone Life! & JAVA GAMES ============================ Downloading Java Games is easy yet a pain in the ar**. For one: If you have the honor of getting your phone ONTO the network (which is not possible in Australia) then you can browse the internet... Now being on the internet is fine, being on Vodafone live! is a completely different story. If your phone doesn't match their white list (GX20N or GX22 instead of GX20), you won't be able to download anything other than wallpapers, if your lucky. So IF you CAN access the internet via GPRS or WCDMA, go find a random site that offers Java games and pay $1-2 for downloading instead of $7 + $2 on Vodafone Live! Other than that there is no way to obtain JAVA GAMES. Don't argue with me, just believe me: I've been trying for 2 years. Pictures off the Digital Camera ================================ OK, let me warn everyone. Keep in mind that these fabulous piece of ingenious Japanese technology is almost 1 year old (happy birthday!). This means: - Modern 1.3 Mpx Cameras will be better - Modern 2 & 3.2 Mpx Cameras will kick arse The 802SH has significant improvements over the GX30. It added 0.3 Mpx to the image. Other than that the 802SH is not overly saturating images like the GX30 did, in simle terms: It has better white balance. BUT... Noise levels are outrageous in low lighting which is intensified if you view the picture on an LCD flat screen... A dirty and smudgy lense will produce HORRIBLE noisy pictures...so keep that lense clean (trust me, have a tissue with you ALWAYS) I still don't understand why they don't put a cover on the lense...damn that would be useful. Other than that the camera picks up good colors and I'm very happy with it. I am wanting to get my greasy hands on a 903SH though... *drool* skater42

Quality & Durability of the 802SH ================================== Ok, now one would think that this phone is delicate because of the camera and the awesome screen...and the tightly packaged electronics. I went skating (hence my name) and had the phone in my pouch of my jumper when it suddenly fell out "in-flight". It crashed down on the concrete cover-up first. A lot of scratches....but no damages whatsoever. Screen is good, camera works, macro-mode works... Nothing happened. Luckily these things don't have an external screen. I dropped it a few more times and am confident that even for the next times nothing will happen. Keep in mind: My phone is Ice-Blue and you can't see the scratches because they are white. BONUS! 5/5 *top notch* Ringtones of the SD Card ========================= You must copy or move the Ringtone to your handset memory. This is to guarantee that you cannot use ultra-long ringtones or DRM files. As you know, you can copy DRM to your SD, but not to the Phone Memory. The Phone Memory also has a 300KB limit for MMF files. Not a big deal really. I'm happy for now. JAVA GAMES ========== Not possible to transfer Java Games via bluetooth or SD-Card. This functions is locked by the Handset Manager and you MUST download them via Vodafone Live! There used to be a hacked handset Manager for the GX10i that allowed you to upload any file, but I don't think that had gone any further than the GX10i itself. Always have a look out though. Pictures from the 802SH ======================== Ok, I will post some on my server and give you the URL here. I'll do a variety of pictures. I have planned to do a review, but haven't got the time yet. Personally I have seen images of a 6630 and must say they are very good for a CMOS. The 802SH is by no means perfect. It has incredible noise levels when there isn't enough lighting and can't adjust automatically to bright sunlight. The worst part is to adjust exposure: They took away all shortcuts!!! I have to go into options every single time...so annoying!!! The 1290 x 960 images can be very good on the 802SH, they actually even look better than 1024 x 786. But once the lighting becomes dim you need to turn on that LED to make things look decent. skater42

try this, put the MMC card into your phone, go to settings,memory settings,format card and then enter 9999(that should be the default code) after formating the card put it back into your mmc reader and there should be folders in the mcc card. then go to your media player and access your memory card. then go ahead and exit and go to your main menu. (this should've created the folders) you need to put it into My Items > Sounds & Ringtones then sadly to say i've not figured out how to make ring tones ring off of your SD/MMC card.. but you have to move the file into your handset memory in order for it to work

to save skater sometime, look at this.. *copies from pages 3 MMF 5 by YAMAHA =============== The latest version of the converter, MA5, is the "loudest" and supports Mono 24khz, stereo 12khz wave file support. Earlier versions like MA2 and MA3 support up to 12khz and 40 poly tones, MA5 & MA7 support from 64poly to 128poly, 24-48(?)khz ringtones. The converter (MA5) can be downloaded for free off the Yamaha web site, simply look for it on google.com. Let me know how you go and if you need help with it. ------------------------------------------- You have to find a mp3 -> wav then you can download the MA5 and change the .wav to .mmf and throw it into your my sounds and ringtones folder. Skater explained this to me thoroughly, go ahead and look on page3 all the information is there.

V603SH, V501SH, V302SH, V402SH =============================== Sorry to disappoint you...these models are PDC ONLY, not GSM. This means that they do not use SIM-CARDS because they run on a different network than ours. PDC is used by Vodafone and NTT DOCOMO in Japan and uses the 800Mhz/1500Mhz frequencies. Even if a Phone is dual PDC & WCDMA you cannot use it without being on a contract, because no SIM/USIM can be inserted. BUT...the V302SH is the equivialent of the GX25 and so it is not impossible for Vodafone to re-make PDC into GSM models for the GSM market. !!! DO NOT waste your money on buying gray-imports of the V602SH etc, it is NOT POSSIBLE to use PDC phones even if dual WCDMA is available. You cannot enter a SIM/USIM! Full Stop. skater42

I'll post other things you can do with your phone soon, one that is overlooked and definatelly under-marketed: Offline-Mode ============ The W800 (SE) is boasting this option, that it can play MP3 without having to have the phone on etc. This is useful when travelling on airplanes. Well, on the W800 you can only use the MP3 player, as where on the 802SH you can use all options including games, camera, mp3 etc. So I think that is definatelly worth mentioning. cheers, skater42

SD-Video Converter =================== Hi Kouji, there is a program called 3GP-Converter 0.31. I use it and its pretty decent. Converts a whole lot of other formats too. Together with BoilSoft ASF converter you can increase the quality by first converting ie. WMV-MPG, then MPG to ASF with 3GP-Converter. Unfortunatelly I haven't had too much luck directly converting them into ASF via the Boilsoft program. Look on google on how to obtain either or both programs. I have complete Movies on my phone, and they rock, such good quality ;) Skater42

What I meant before... ======================= Bugs like these are not necessarily a Firmware fault...they can be caused by faulty flashing. These phones are not meant to be unlocked (There is no v802 for Europe) and hence have no Vodafone approved unlocking. The unlocking methods are third party softwares that read and re-write the firmware to a phone. It is very complicated, but try to get it reflashed and hope that everything works properly. I know of a lot of people who can use all functions including WAP/MMS. cheers, Skater42

You have two options: - Get it re-flashed - or ditch it and get a new fone Mine works fine besides a few bugs. I have none of these problems, but the bugs are normal and can be fixed by reflashing the phone. Try the UK/EU version and give it a go, or just don't bother with it. i have the 32 SD card ..... and i have a bad news..... the jp version is really really full of bugs as far as my experience tells me.... no mp3 \ cant use it to use gps\mms or even sms in ur country ...... phonebook is totally a mess and most of all there is no t9 for english ( only jp and english languages available ) the camera photos is the worst among the mega pixel phones i used..... the GX30 is way better in photo quality ..... trust me mr. skater i can go on and on with its problems w2ith the jp unlocked version and now the phone just keeps restarting not going through the insializing startup !!!!!!! it wont even start ...... all i did is typing a msg and trying to send it .... and it didnt go anywhere but the unsent folder .... even when i tried to delete it .. it wont be deleted...... 10 minutes later for my surprise i found it restarting by it self and keep restarting :S:S:S:S:S i hate it ..... i really HATE IT my only hope is with the shop i am going to tomorrow to flash it with the UK firmware AN ADVICE ..... no one buy this phone with the JP VERSION...... UK is EU ======== There are only two versions for this phone as far as I am aware. This phone was never meant to be released outside of Japan, hence the JP version is not as buggy as the EU version. No, there is no "Israeli" version or arabic version available. Try using a SD Card, I'm not positive that MMC is supported. Skater42

MP3's not playing ================= Hi, that is so strange. Download a trial of dbPowerAmp and convert your files with the (Lame) MP3 encoder. That's the one I am using and it works perfectly. OR - Do you use a MMC or SD Card? - How big is the Memory Card? - Is the Memory Card formated correctly? - Can you save or play any other media (video, pictures, etc.) on the same card? What exactly happens when you try to play the music? You open the Media Player: Options > Open Music > SD Memory Card DO NOT SKIP THE REFRESHING!!!!!!!! Refreshing the playlist will update all songs, if you have skipped it regularly the playlist won't be able to find the new/old songs. Is this the reason? Tell me in as much details as possible what is happening, what error messages come up and if necessary, send me one mp3 that you cannot play and I will check on mine! Send it to [email protected]! To access an MP3: - it must be no bigger than 192kbps, 48khz. - must be MP3 or MP3PRO, NOT MP2, MP4, AAC or AAC+ - MUST BE in the "Sounds & Ringtones" Folder If it is not in this folder under My Items, the phone will not recognize the files. BOTH versions are able to use the media player and play MP3's. Chaku-Uta & MP3 Ringtones ========================== There is something you need to understand first before you compare the EU & JP version. Vodafone KK in Japan is offering the music service together with SONY offering "Chaku-Uta", which allows the download of full-length MP3 music and videos. Alone for this reason it's a contradiction to say that the JP Version would not be able to play MP3 or MP3 Ringtones, that is the main selling point. Videos & Music can be set as a ringtone! Both, the EU & JP versions support MP3 Ringtones, but only if they are downloaded from Vodafone BB (Vodafone Live!), or another portal offering DRM content. PHONEBOOK ========= I never said you could copy contacts from an SD-Card, only your USIM or SIM. The best you can do is to transfer the entries from your OLD phone into MS OUTLOOK, or as an .CSV. If you had a previous SHARP phone, simply import that file into the Phone Manager and upload your contacts. Everything else should be fine from then on. MENU & TEXT-INPUT ================= No, the Japanese and European Firmware are IDENTICAL in looks. Nothing will change. About the English T9, I have not tried this on a Japanese version. thanx skater....... :) but i still think there is a difference between the japanese version and the EU version 1- its about the text input everywhere... for example .. there is no T9 for English... only jap. 2- in the phone book u have to enter all ur contacts again manually and not copy them from the memory card .... to enable searching :-S i think again thats becuz the phone is jp version 3- there is no sort by first- last or last first name in the option 4- the most important ONE is obviously u can play MP3 on the EU version and noooooo way on the jp version ...... i tried everything to play mp3 and no way :s and i was very carefull about the kps and khz ... and no.... not working thats why i am asking if i changed the software and upgraded it to EU ( cuz obviously it will correct alllll my problems ) will i lose the look of the menu ( and will it tur into a GX30 menu ???? the barcod reader ( its sooo usefull till now with buss. cards and showing off :D ) and ofcourse the video tones ...icons and emotions in names and msgs ... etc for the DC-videos ...... u can play them from mediaplayer on the phone....just press options then chooseopen video then SD VIDEO ..... and if u have a card reader ( witch i think the best thing to transfer media files ) u can find them in the directory SD VIDEOS directly not in the my items so till u answer me about the eu\jp software.... i am stuck with a phone with no mp3 function thanx :)

Chaku-Uta (mp3 ringtones) can be played on both versions, with the exception that they must be DRM (Digital Rights Managed) and downloaded from a server. The phone will not allow ".dm" files to be transferred via bluetooth, cable or IrDA. Read my previous posts in regards to alternative MMF formats! Text Scanner & QR Codes ========================== The text scanner is a handy gimmick but doesn't always work properly. Make sure that you use the "macro-mode" to get the clearest image, and the bar must be DARK BLUE to get the most accurate results. ALSO, the font that you scan will impact on the results. Very graphical fonts will not work. This is a computer people, it cannot think. QR-Codes are a standard used in Japan. We have no current use for it, at least not for another few years. Create your own, print them out and try it. It's a very cool new way of storing information!!! OPTICAL ZOOM ============= No, the information on this site is false. The phone has NO optical zoom and autofocus. It is a regular 1.3 MPx module. No other web site has ever claimed this, only GSMARENA. SD-VIDEO & PHONEBOOK ===================== SD Videos are only stored on the SD-Card so you can record unlimited video. You will not be able to view them unless you open the Multimedia Player. I don't know why they made it like that, it might be a bug that you can't view them straight of the SD-Card. The Phonebook is working fine for me. Just make sure that you have all contacts shown, and copy all from SIM. Under Advanced in your Phonebook: - Order by name first-last, last-first - Contacts location: Handset or SIM - View Contacts (IMPORTANT) ALPHABET OR GROUP @unkown: Make sure you list is order alphabetically and that all contacts are downloaded from the SIM. It should work then. REPROVISIONING SETTINGS ======================== These settings are important when you switch from one VF Network to another. It will try to download the information so it can connect to Vodafone Live! Contact your service centre or go online to get the settings for your UMTS & GPRS. I never ran into this issue, so I can't give you a 100% promise that this will fix it. MP3's & dbPowerAmp =================== For anyone who's having trouble playing MP3s: - Download dbPowerAmp and simply run your existing mp3s, wav or wma/aiff files through there. - Make sure that your settings are set to 192kbps and 48KHz for maximum quality. Hi Kouji, MP3 & other formats ==================== The 802SH, 902SH, GX30, TM150 & TM200 are definatelly not allowing more than 192kbps. I am not 100% on the reason, but I suspect that this is to safeguard the correct functioning of the mp3 player. As you may have noticed, saving and retrieving data from the SD/MMC card can take a bit, so this must be the upper limit for the transfer rate. If it would be higher than that the phone might not be able to "stream" the song off the SD/MMC card. I hope this makes sense, but as I said this is my theory and isn't confirmed. Don't get confused: - limit: 192kbps - limit: 48KHz Kouji: Did your song maybe play at 32KHz? I tried to play a file at 224 & 320kbps, but it's not possible. Recognized Formats =================== Up to the 902SH, Sharp fones only supported MP3 & MP3PRO file formats. Both formats are max 192kpbs, 48khz. No other formats were supported before the 903SH. The 903SH also supports AAC and AAC+ files. Software to use ================ the dbPowerAmp program is excellent for converting WAV, WMA and AIFF to MP3! I would recommend to buy this program or give it a try! It is also upgradable for new formats! It will correctly encode MP3 files, that's what I'm using and it works perfectly! Hi John, no you cannot use the 802SH with Japanese firmware. To my knowledge the unlocking has something to do with flashing the Phone to EU Firmware first. Now I'm not all technical about it, but my reseller explained it this way. The only way you can use the Japanese 802SH is through a VF KK USIM card which must be subscribed to the Vodafone KK network. Roaming charges are incredibly high. There is no difference between the JP and EU version of the firmwares. The menu is in a different order, but essentially all functions are the same. You have many more languages to choose from the EU version, which suits me and most other Europeans that are multilingual ;) I can't find the 802SH any longer on ebay so I would advise to buy it soon! It's still in production of course, but I think with the 903/703 available no one would bother to import them any longer. The phone is awesome though and the best I have had as yet! Skater42

MA5 MMF ========= Jaox, you need to download the Sound Decorator to convert WAV to MMF. You will also need a MP3-WAV converter, I use dbPowerAmp for mine and it's EXCELLENT. Once the files are in WAV you then simply open them in the Decorator and crop and cut the files to the piece that you want to repeat. Make sure it is converting to Mono 24khz and then save it as a MMF. It cannot be more than 300kb, which is ~15 seconds or more, it will be twice as long on 12khz. The Authoring tool which you have lets you combine 64 poly ringtones with wave sounds, so you can mix poly tones and voices to make ultra-long poly ringtones that sound like real music clips. 802SE vs. 802SH ================ My friend used to have a 802SE (Sony Ericsson) and it is a very nice phone. I played a little bit with it, though mainly with the camera and menu functions. POSITIVES of the 802 Sony Ericsson ========== - nice design - outside screen - very bright LED light - nice animated backgrounds - excellent call quality - rotating camera The camera was average at night time (CMOS) but took pretty decent pictures in daytime lighting. It's rotating so it can be easily used as a mirror or for Video Chat of course ;) The MP3 player I didn't really get to test too thoroughly because I had no headset. The speaker was OK, though not the loudest. Negatives ========== - Memory Stick Duo instead of SD - Heavy I cannot say much more about this handset, I wish I could have played more with it. I don't think it can compete with the 802SH (SHARP) camera, but other than that they are pretty equal I think! skater42

i don�t know if the software of the phones is diferent but in portugal i use MMS and GPRS with no problems! how is that possible? the camera is one of the best 1.3mega pixel in the market...however my phones doesn�t have the option of taking continuous shots (9 pictures straight away) despite that option is on the manual... i already droped it on the floor 2 or 3 times and nothing hapenned, it's made in japan so it has a superior quality hehe [[[]]] joao x

THINK ABOUT THIS ================= Yes, so far I haven't been able to get this phone GPRS enabled, not even on Vodafone. This means that, as it is now, you will not be able to use MMS/WAP on ANY network other than Vodafone KK (Japan), or unless you are using Vodafone KK on roaming. I will let everyone know when I find a solution. BUT...READ ON As everyone who owns this phone knows: It IS awesome! Everyone keeps on complaining that we cannot receive Japanese technology, and Japanese phones are so good "why can't we have them???", "Why stays everything in Japan??" blablablablabla.... DOCOMO handsets aren't available or usable ANYWHERE without a docomo-contract, and probably will never be! Vodafone made it possible to export SHARP and TOSHIBA models of such high standard OUTSIDE of Japan. No other non-japanese network, except Vodafone (V & GX-Series) and T-Mobile (TM-Series), have access to these exclusive SHARP Handsets. And the best thing, the 802SH can at least be used for the main functions: call, SMS and camera. I like MMS but can live without it for now. The camera and PDA functions on top of the awesome MP3 player really make this phone worth it for me and only few other phones can compete with SHARP 3G models. See, the 802SH, 501SH, 601SH and 801SH phones were never intended for other markets. They shouldn't be available outside of japan: full stop! But for those who appreciate SHARP quality it is quite a "privilege" to have at least the 802SH, the 702, 902 and 903 being generally available to all Vodafone 3G (UMTS) regions. In simple terms: Don't buy the 802SH if you can't sacrifice the GPRS. If that doesn't bother you then you're in for a pretty good deal and a phone that is simply more than a phone! And the best selling point: The 802SH is around $200 cheaper than the 902SH, which makes it a nice alternative. skater42

DATA LOCK ========== I am not quite sure about this one. At first it seems that this is the case, but on top of that Vodafone and any other netowrk providers MUST APPROVE the handset on their network before access to such services can be granted. The 802SH was never intended for the sale overseas and hence is not supported on networks outside of Japan. Telstra settings for my phone let it at least attempt to connect, though no success. It is a bit of a pain I know, but I can live with it. Ringtones & Wallpapers I make myself, and the rest... I'll live! You need to look at the strenghts: - Quality 1.3 MPx CCD Camera - MP3 player with 3.5mm jack support - OFFLINE MODE for Airplanes and Hospitals (like the W800) - QVGA (320x240px) MPEG4 video - PDA calendar and reminder functions - Macromedia Flash etc. There is so much to this handset! There is a data lock on the 802 which prevents the use of MMS & WAP. Unless you can get rid of the lock, those functions cannot be used, which is a big downside as even cheap & crap phones let you use MMS & WAP.

MMF 5 by YAMAHA =============== The latest version of the converter, MA5, is the "loudest" and supports Mono 24khz, stereo 12khz wave file support. Earlier versions like MA2 and MA3 support up to 12khz and 40 poly tones, MA5 & MA7 support from 64poly to 128poly, 24-48(?)khz ringtones. The converter (MA5) can be downloaded for free off the Yamaha web site, simply look for it on google.com. Let me know how you go and if you need help with it. skater42

TV OUT & AUTOFOCUS ------------------- The V802SH has NO Autofocus. The camera is similar to the GX30 with a bit bigger resolution. I'm not sure about the TV-OUT, there were no cables included, yet it may be possible to use the same cable as for the V902SH. But I don't kow how that would work. FIRMWARE FLASHING ------------------ I have heard, that means I cannot confirm this 100%, that re-flashing to the Japanese firmware will lock your phone again. This is quite possible since the Japanese Firmware and hardware settings are set up differently to European phone settings. I have read on forums that the Euro versions can be unlocked via IMEI, as where the Japanese are locked differently. If anyone has some hard-fact information on Japanese/ General phone locking this would be great! Try it and let me know if it changed anything, but I don't think it is a good idea. Your phone might also become un-usable on your network in terms of GPRS use. My V802 is not supported by Vodafone Australia and hence won't let me access the GPRS network. Flashing can be done through third parties, depending on where you live this is sometimes a bit harder to achieve. Sharp is always a good try, so if you give them a call and tell them you need the Japanese version... go for it! I haven't seen a free flasher for the V802 and the firmware is not available online either, unless you want to spend US$ 500 on a flasher-box you might just want to ring SHARP. Don't bother with Vodafone, they can't (don't want to) do much. keep me informed, if the japanese flash works I might do it to get rid of my firmware bugs!!! skater42

Reprovisioning --------------- I'm not 100% sure since my phone isn't locked and I think this might have something to do with it. My japanese friend and I are the only people that own the 802SH in Coffs, her's has the Japanese Firmware, mine the European. When I access her GPRS it works fine, but because it is roaming and contains the Japanese KK settings it might try to load local settings into the browser. If you choose "Execute Pending" in the Re-Provisioning settings, what happens? Also, if you go to your local Vodafone site and get them to send you the settings via SMS, maybe that will solve it. Sorry, haven't come accross this issue myself, but try that maybe. skater42

VODAFONE LIVE! & MMS --------------------- In many cases Vodafone will not allow the 802SH to access their network because the phone has not been approved on any Vodafone Networks outside of Japan (Vodafone KK). Telstra has just released their 3G service here in Rural NSW and I will try to get everything happening with them since Vodafone is being difficult, and Vodafone UMTS won't be available in Coffs Harbour until next year. But other carriers might allow the 802SH to access GPRS. Simply get them to send you the settings! UNLOCKING ---------------- No, unlocking will not restrict your phone from any features. Firmware up/downgrades will. VODAFONE Branding ------------------ Unfortunatelly there is no other firmware available for the 802SH other than the current Vodafone versions. This phone was not released to any other networks like Vodafone Smartone in Hong Kong, hence there is no other firmware at this stage. Chances are low of receiving other firmware since the 703SH & 903SH are now available. BATTERY LIFE ------------- My battery lasts around 5 days with minimal usage. FIRMWARE I haven't got it fixed yet, but the firmware that should work is 1.33 if I'm correct. It's the best to contact SHARP since Vodafone are just idiots when it comes to customer service! There are two versions (European) out for the 802, the 1.33 and 1.40. I'm not sure if the japanese firmware would be usable, I have heard that these phones unlock by changing firmware...which is a bit of a myth I think. If it were that easy... AAC + MP3 No, the 802 does not support AAC/+, but mp3PRO and regular mp3 work just fine! MP3PRO is similar to AAC+ in that it allows smaller file size at a lower kbps (64kbps, 128kbps) with the same quality as a 192kbps/220kbps file. Its great!!! Ringtones can be MMF 5, which allows up to 24khz which is basically mp3 quality! I can send you the converter files if you want it! FLASH Flash can be set as a background file but not as a ringtone/video. It is FlashLite 1.1 so it has a few Actionscript limitations, but other than that it's really nice!

Phonebook synchronization: YES, you can do so with MS Outlook, best is to use IrDA since bluetooth can be a pain in the a*se to setup. But it's possible! Mine works fine! MP3 & MP4 When you use a MMC/SD card you must arrange the folders so that SHARP can read it. If you put a blank SD/MMC card into the phone it will create all necessary folders. You must put the MP3/4's into the: My Items > Sounds & Ringtones OR My Items > Video/ SD Video Folder You can also put music and .swf (Flash) into the "Other Documents" folder to read. OPTUS MMS & GPRS This phone is almost nowhere supported. I tried to hook it up with Telstra and received one lucky attempt to connect to GPRS, but never since. I contacted Vodafone for a software upgrade but they cannot do it unless SHARP can blablablablabla... Vodafone is hopeless in this respect. The V802 is an Japanese exclusive and has never been adopted outside of Japan, though the European Firmware (1.40) does exist.... But if you are looking for ringtones in mp3 quality, download the latest YAMAHA MMF converter which plays up to 24khz of music, 300kb limit! I OWN THIS PHONE so ask me all you want ;) skater42

Joao, the MP3 player is really awesome! Very good quality and very loud! You can choose differnet sound settings like Bass, Surround Sound and Surround Bass. You get the converter so you can plug any 3.5 mm headset into it and you have three play lists! The loudspeaker is also nice, though it sounds a bit tinny. The volume through the headphones is sometimes even too loud, as where the GX30 wasn't loud enough. You have around 20 Volume levels. You can also fast-forward and rewind your favorite track which was impossible on the GX30, and repeat single or all songs. The 802SH is perfect for any stereo speakers and is a little "Hi-Fi" if connected to a decent speaker set. So enjoy it! Ebay australia sold them for under AU$400 (US$~300) where I got mine from. cheers, Skater42

Hey Joao, very quickly, I'm about to go to work, but I will write a review very shortly over the next few weeks and publish it. Image Processing Faster than the GX30, the image processing is quite bearable. The view-finder is much faster and doesn't slow down when it's darker. MP3 You can transfer mp3s via bluetooth FROM YOUR PHONE ONLY. You can NOT load them up via Bluetooth from your computer unless. You will need to buy an SD Card reader cheaply off ebay to handle mp3s. Weaknesses The phone has a few bugs that concern the sent folder of the SMS/MMS. This can be corrected with an firmware update. The sent folder doesn't save messages, though they send fine. The loudspeaker needs to be turned on before a conversation, but on the 802 you can only turn it on during a call and you need to go through the "options" to do it. Lens cover: The phone definatelly needs a lens cover, i just don't want to clean it every day. That's it for now, other than that this phone is AWESOME! Skater42

to Joao, The V802SH is very durable in terms that it is strong plastic and the swivel screen is very well fitted. This means it's not loose or creaky. You can take pictures in "normal" mode or camera-style (swivel) mode. Swivel mode is the coolest!!! The camera has been improved over the GX30 and has less noise. Make sure the lens stays clean. Contrast is better, though colours seem less vibrant, but are closer to a "real" digital camera. The pictures save quicker and you can ZOOM into images when viewing them in the gallery. Great feature!!! Offline mode The phone has an offline mode which allows you to take it on airplanes and into hospitals. The reception will be cut off once in offline mode and all transmissions will be stopped. MP3 Player Make sure the mp3's are NOT MORE than 192kbps or variable bitrate. Otherwise it won't play. The MP3 player has forward/rewind features, ~20 volume levels, Surround Sound & Bass, Playlists and a converter cable which lets you put in ANY 3.5 mm HEADPHONES. !!! You can use ANY 3.5mm HEADPHONE !!!! QVGA Video 320 x 240 pixels Video with the same quality as a average Digital Camera. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Loudspeaker The phone has got handsfree built in which is a pleasure to use! Macromedia FLASH-Lite This phone can play Flash-Lite 1.1 content. MP3/ MMF ringtones/videos MP3 DRM ringtones must be downloaded. MMF up to 24khz (or even 48?!?) can be played. Same as MP3 quality, read more below. BLUETOOTH Fully functional bluetooth for file transfer to any capable device. Infrared is spotless too! Tried both! PDA Manager Alarms, Calendar-Reminders and other PIM functions are GREAT!!! Factory Unlocked means you can use any SIM card from any GSM provider. My 802sh is originally factory unlocked from Japan.

MP3 Ringtone Alternatives OK everybody, here it is. If the whole mp3-ringtone debate is too hot or too expensive than I found a do-it-yourself alternative ;) Thanks to YAMAHA we have an increased, powered-up MMF format (MA-5) with MA-7 to follow. In 'mono' mode it can play ringtones up to 24khz, that is pretty good and almost on the same level as mp3. And the best thing, the WAV-> MMF (SMAF) converter is free for download from the Yamaha web site. It sounds amazing and these Sharp phones can have ringtones up to 300kb, so you can squeeze in some quality and lenght. They sound REALLY good! So far I made a coldplay clocks ringtone and heaps others, I'll share them if you want. skater42

@ ALL YES, you can play MP3 music & MP3 Ringtones. You will need to download mp3 ringtones from a wap server and they MUST be copyright (DRM) protected. You can protect the files yourself and then upload them to a wap server, there is no other way to transfer the files via bluetooth/infrared, as Vodafone has disabled the transfer of DRM files to the root (phone) directory. Ring-Video's You may also play .3gp or .mp4 video files as ringtones. 3GP videos work flawlesly though mp4 files will need to be downloaded from the Vodafone web site or similar. BLUETOOTH Bluetooth wireless works perfectly from phone -> PC without the PC Manager, though PC -> Phone is only possible through the Phone Manager. Phone Phone transfers work flawlessly on any files that ARE NOT copyrighted (DRM). In general this phone has had a fix of all bugs that were available on the GX30. skater42

@ LEE The 902SH & 802SH BOTH share the AQUOS 256k screen. Both screen have a resolution of 320 x 240 px and have a much better contrast than the GX30. Pictures on the GX30 are too light and "dull" compared to the V802/902SH. Sharp at the moment are definatelly first-runners in screen technology, the AQUOS has a 160 degree viewing angle where colors and contrast barely fade. This means that people next to you can see as clearly as you.(Is that a good thing :P ) I hope that in the next series they will software enable the 24-bit screens (16 million colors), like Samsung and Panasonic are currently developing. cheers, skater42

V802SH vs V902SH The V802 is different from the V902 that it doesn't have: - a 2MPx camera with autofocus & optical zoom (1.3MPx) - outter screen Other than that they are identical in software and even share the same bugs... They are great phone, and the V802 is a bit cheaper than the V902. Again, SONY ERICSSON does have it's own model, the V802SE, but that is completely different from the V802SH (SHARP). MP3 Player & Sony Ericsson Rumour 1: This phone doesn't have the "Mp3 function. I own a V802, and let me tell you, listening to MP3 is bliss. Sounds excellent, but the MP3's must NOT exceed 192kbps. It's a 3G chaku-uta phone, which only supports DRM-MP3 ringtones. Rumour 2: This phone is made by SE. To understand the Japanese labeling and categorization of phones. Vodafone labels all their phones with a V for Vodafone. After that follows the serial number, 702, 802, 902, 903 etc. Followed after that is the manufacturer: SH = Sharp SE = Sony Ericsson N = NEC NK = Nokia T = Toshiba F = Panasonic (?) (This labeling also applies to NTT Docomo/ FOMA) So the whole Serials is Vodafone 802 Sharp (V802SH). The Sony Ericsson model is the V802SE and the Nokia model is the V702NK. In order to buy any Vodafone you MUST have a Japan address and payment has to be through Japanese bank. You can't order any Vodafone from the US or any other country. If you want it so badly I suggest that you find a unlocked version from the UK and use it in the US (be willing to pay about $900). Don't buy any Japan model because you won't be able to unlock it.

Look! All Vodafone's are not going to work in the US unless you have a "Vodafone USIM" card in it (and use their roaming network) and have an account with Vodafone in Japan. None of the US SIM cards will work in any of the Japanese UTMS/GSM phone's!

Great phone, great camera, large internal memory, TFT display, etc., but the 902 kind of make it "obsolete"??? It's almost like the V801SH which I have and is a great phone! Sadly the US made phone doesn't even come close to the GSM phones sold in the US.

skater42 do you know what system Verizon is on? Or even Sprint. Vodafone and NTT DoCoMo is on W-CDMA 2GHz and KDDI (AU) is using CDMA2000 1x800MHz. Even though the frequency may be the same I think the encyrption system is different and would be imcompatable, probably usless between the US and the Japan network. Sad isn't it? All the US model phone is make junky and the Japanese phones are well made with great feature and quality........

@Unknown Don't worry, you may be able to get the Motorolas from Korea which are on CDMA2000 EV-DO. I have heard of people importing phones from Korea and then getting them reprogrammed. Look on ebay to find some models. I am not exactly sure how the reprogramming would work, but the S/N number would have to be signed up by your local Sprint/Verizon provider. Probably some hacking and cracking involved, not sure.

It's really sad that all of these great phone will not be available in the US for good. They are meant for Vodafone and other W-CDMA/UMTS service although they are advertised "GSM900/1800/1900" It just means they can be roamed outside Japan/Europe, but are not produced to be sold in the US. Maybe Verizon or Sprint will come out with a similar model! They are the ones that uses CDMA and not GSM network in the US.

Personally I find it ridiculous to brand them phones so much like Vodafone does. Another sort of branding is locking them to Vodafone UMTS and I mean UMTS ONLY. Vodafone is available in many countries, also Australia, but until Vodafone has finished their UMTS-Net over here we won't be able to get the 902 and 802 over here either. Since Vodafone only operates on GSM 800/900 (as far as I know) and WCDMA I highly doubt if they will ever set foot in the US...even though T-Mobile eventually went over there too. So I guess the US have to wait a bit....

Since this phone has a 1MP camera, 256k screen and video and bluetooth capability this is easily a brilliant phone.

Seriously, the design doesn't bother me one bit. The screen is huge, the colors are great, the functions are all there. It's UMTS and it's about the same size as my GX20 without the antenna and so is one of the smallest UMTS phones available at this stage. It's a great phone and finally brings the GSM market, together with Mitsubishi, up to the Japanese standard.

This may be not the exact model, but one thing for sure that I know about this model is that it has the same swivel hinge like it's japanese counterpart. This model has been derived by the V602SH Honestly, I have been waiting for this moment for a long time..:)
