Sonim XP3.20 Quest - User Reviews

  • I too have had a sonim xp3.20 for years. Although I've had a couple of problems I would not part with it. Like yours mine has been drowned, soaked in hot oil, banged about a lot .i love it .thinking of also getting the latest one with big screen

  • Dear Mr. XXX ( sent to reseller in Suisse ) Further to our eMails dated from 27.July 2012 to 30.October 2012 (last, 30.10.2012 15:53 ) I wish to let you know that I am indeed unhappy. I still have serious problems with my Sonim phone: 1) ITALIAN Network : "searching" Please kindly look at below 3 videos. They are self-explanatory. When ever I go to ITALY, I got this recurrent issue: my Sonim "searching" continusly I cannot even switch off my sonim. it is just getting "mad". This happen only with any Italian network. I have been to the following countries and my sonim works well: Hong-Kong, Macao, Singapore, China, France, Germany, Austria. 2) Not possible to change preferences ( Priority ) In the Menu - Settings - Network settings - PREFERENCES, I mean, In some Geneva aera, we can get French networks as well as the Swiss one. It is just impossible to setup the prefererences ( for instance Swiss one ), each time I do I got the message : "Unfinished" Consequently, my sonim just get the newtork with the strongest signal. I have the strong feeling that above "searching" issue is related to "Preferences". In the preferences folder, I have a lot of predefined networks. For instance, some Russian, country I have never been to. I think that those pre-defined network, the italians one have wrong "data" in them and whenever I go to Italy, . . . . I actually cannot even Delete pré-setup network : I got systematically "Unfinished" 3) My sonim does not keep my out-going SMS messages. Menu - Messages - Outbox - >>> nothing 4) Key 3 DEF + Key 6 MNO Most of the time both are not lighted , or sometimes they blink and then idle. Please kindly let me know what action you wish to take. Looking forward to your kind reply, Best regards,

  • Are ptta still around, I have been trying to contact them all morning with no luck??? Please foward me any contact details you have...thanks

  • I have owned the Sonim xp3.20 Quest pro for 2 years and have had to have it replaced 2 times due to the usb port breaking. The phone is build rugged but they failed to build the usb/charger to match the durability of the phone.

  • owned this for 3 years and Anovo have replaced it 7,yes 7 times, twice for broken screens and the rest is for firmware faults. Don't get me wrong its a rugged phone and does everything it claims to,it really is hard as nails. BUT and its a big but, since I started having technical issues its been non stop, the phone freezes and the battery has to be removed, the torch comes on and drains the battery FAST,tx's only send when they fancy it,and best of all is the spiking in signal levels.....from full to none ALL THE TIME!! its forever being replaced NO QUIBBLE and I'm told its up to date and all the faults have been rectified, but it comes back and a week later so do the faults. The software installed is from the dark ages and just doesn't seem to cope with anything.

  • I bought my phone on Feb 7, 2012 I dropped it one time from a standing position to the road and when I picked it up the display screen was black and the camera was busted. I called my wireless provider and they told me they could not help me because it was a malfunction of the phone and the warrenty should take care of it. I tried contacting the sonim company and got a recording to leave a message and someone would call me back I have yet to hear from them. What can I do to get my phone repaired since no one is willing to help?

  • Hi, I own the xp3 quest yellow, lost or had the first one stolen, don't recall any problems with that one.Bought another and after a few months the reception went to hell.sent it back they replaced it with a new one the reception was bad from day one and the flashlight didn't work.Sent it back and received another,so far the reception is good but the flashlight is not working. very annoying

  • Hi! Just after a month of using the xp3 sonim, the coating on number 5 got scratched. Then, i always get very very poor signals. I live in the UAE, Abu Dhabi to be exact and the network signals here are excellent!! So why no signal?? I bought the unit in best buy in chicago so GSM should not be an issue! Can someone email me at b4logban@ yahoo.com to help me out?! Thank you

  • This is my second Sonim. I have had my XP3.20 for nearly two years now, and it's the best phone I have ever used. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles - but then it's a phone, and when I need to call or be called, it works, first time, every time. That's why I HAVE a phone. I have been swimming with my phone - and have photos on the phone that prove this. I have chopped down trees, with my phone on my belt, and have even fallen out of a tree with my phone. It never skipped a beat. I go cycling and quad biking with my phone. And not a moment's trouble. With regards to service: the agents here in South Africa (www.ptta.co.za) are fantastic - never too busy to talk to you, and any interactions with them are painless. When I had problems with my previous Sonim, they replaced it immediately, no questions asked - their unconditional guarantee really IS unconditional. I'm still using BOTH my Sonim phones, and will not hesitate to purchase another.

  • I've had my XP3 Quest Pro for 18 months and love it. Have had no problems untill last week when after entering my security pin the screen goes blank. The phone goes into standby mode and is unresponsive. Only the shut off and light buttons seem to work. It no longer receives calls either. Probably just a software glitch that needs a reset. Biggest problem is trying to get some one at Sonim to talk to me. All their phone numbers seem to go directly to an answering machine which does not identify the company and my emails have been ignored. I am certain 5 minutes with a techy at Sonim would save me haveing to mail the thing back for warrenty covered repairs, but this almost purposely set up avoidance of customers that spend 3-400 on a phone is absolutely a mind scratcher. Before you buy, google their coperate headquarters and give them a call. It's a toll free call and you'll very quickly understand my hesitancy in recommending any of their extrodinarily well made products.

  • This phone has given me and other colleagues untold problems, speaker broken, software freezing up and unable to get it out of sleep mode. Dio not recommend this phone at all. Follow up service by Sonim useless and are not willing to take responsibility for an inferior phone.

  • Bought my Sonim two years ago and yealled to the microphone few weeks before I understood to ask for a replacement. Got better one after some 5 weeks waitingtime with no phone at all. Now this replacement has been rattling for some time now with every phone call I have. It's been like I a was speking to someone with another planet or atleast with someone in opposite side of the planet. Numbers and letters on keypad have completely worn out in less than 2 years so it's very fun to try to send textmessages with the phone. Put cover film on my display so it's been staying in good gondition. Display in my first Sonim got scrathches after few weeks in normal use. I have two batteries for the phone and they both sucks. Another one sucks a bit more than another one. Lasts about 2-3 days and I don't call much. Then in some point I found out that the calender in the phone counts the weeks wrongly. If I look at the calender and it shows that we are having the week 49 at the moment, I have to try to remember to count one week off from the reading. Yes it's really weak number 48 no matter what my phone tries to tell me. This thing got so annoying, that I contacted the support for it. Got reply perhaps one year ago that they are working on it. Christ. We have all those smart phones around us, and still there is one manufacturer who cann't make a phone which would show correct weeknumber on display. And there are people out there crazy enough to buy these junks, including myself. I've learned my lesson though. Never again. I sent email to the support center about the rattling problem one week ago and so far they haven't been so much interested about my problems, that they would have replied anything to me. Let's see.

  • i hate my xp3. 4th phone in one year!

  • Have had my sonim for 2 years. More than likely go for another. Good backup service in Durban. MTN and Vodacom

  • Just purchased Sonim XP 3300. After 2 days of use it stopped working. I paid USD 550 and it says it made in China.

  • Is this handset available in S.A on the MTN Network? Does anyone know? if so please kindly advise .... Thanks

  • Nice rugged phone. NO WINDOWS 64bit DRIVERS OR SOFTWARE!!!!! and it doesnt sound like they are to concerned about it either, You have been warned Software installed on 32bit Vista works but is a far cry from something like Nokia PC suite, needs a lot of work. Sad really.

  • what number or email did you use for the fastest service?

  • Ive had one for over a year and love it. I had to get an exchange once as the battery didnt last long but it arrived in 24 hours. Only prob I have is setting up internet and email as Orange doesnt support it and have to muddle through myself. For all that I consider it the best phone |Ive ever had.

  • There is now a Landrover version of this phone, same spec but with a landrover badge and start up screen, have a look at www.thephonetrader.co.uk for the full spec on the phone.

  • you will find that the warranty is no longer unconditional they have stopped it

  • I don't know what the go is with other countries, but in Australia Sonim offers a 3yr unconditional warranty....they'll either swap or replace a handset. Correct me if im wrong lol

  • Hi mate, PLEASE, I would be so grateful to you if you could tell me which has the faster OS, the Quest or the Quest Pro? I am trying to decide between the two and have heard the OS is very slow in the Quest pro. I thought with you working for Sonim, you might have experience of both.

  • I have similar issues, but I tend to break mine also ( screens 3 times, once when it was in my pocket with an ipod touch with was undamaged! ) and last time I dropped a replacement one when it was less than 24 hours old, it would not power up again. First mobile wont replace it, so I have thrown nearly $1K away. I am perusing them with the CGA, but I think its tough titties to me. While the concept is great, and they are genuinely waterproof, they are not as touch as the claims, at least not for a farmer, and the UI and firmware are just terrible. A $80 nokia has far nicer UI and firmware...

  • Just got the phone, the phone ok, just to over price. but not bad, still need some inprovement, the ring tone sucks, the phone do not have one touch dialing, the bluetooth seem to be having some problem when the phone screen saver come on.but still a great phone.

  • One word: eBay.

  • guys, sonim just about meets all the criterion i luk 4 in a fone. can any1 pls temme if its been released in india and where can i buy it from? google search fruitless.

  • Why do I see lots of Sonim phones on eBay that are MADE IN CHINA? Here is one example (with one of the photos showing the manufacturer's sticker at the back part of the phone): Does Sonim outsource its phones in China or have the "Chinese pirates" had their hands on Sonim's phones again?

  • Fenno- I'm very sorry to hear that. We constantly work on improving our phones. Have you contacted our customer service? You can reach them Monday-Friday 8am to 5 pm (est) +1 888.858.9460.

  • Phil- I apologize for your bad experience. We constantly work on improving our phones and strive to test every single unit multiple times. Unfortunately sometimes bugs do slip through. Please email me your information and we will take care of this as soon as possible. Best, Bob [email protected]

  • I have read a lot about the Sonim IP3 Quest Pro and it sounds great in many ways. But.. I have also read it´s problems with the GPS and that it doesn´t support MMS. I´m searching for a rough phone like XP3 Quest Pro, BUT with MMS and a nice GPS. I need a rough phone in my private, I spend a lot of time in the nature.. My last phone got a little wet in the mountains so I need a rough phone. So my question is: Does anybody know when Sonim makes a phone with good GPS, a quite good cam, and MMS. Why have a cam if you can´t send photos to friends etc..?

  • Hi, I really liked the look of this phone so I have ordered one on contract. The first phone I had was ok except that if you made a call via the handset there was a high pitched screech down the ear piece to the extent you can not hear the other person - the phone worked ok with hands free and with the ear phones. I have today received a replacement phone which won't switch on. My question is what sort of QA does Sonim have - When I phoned sonim about the first fault the guy on the phone said "yes I have heard of that before - you need a new handset" I am hoping for 3rd time lucky but am becoming increasingly fed up and will probably not recommend this phone to anyone.

  • Hi there, I want to get myself an XP3.2 Quest. I just have one question. Can this phone send and received mms(picture messages)? I cant see anywere that they say you can do that. Can anyone please anser my question?

  • I'm onto my 5th XP3. they crap. might be tough on the outside. but thats no good if phone wont turn on or just freezes up. it often shuts down in the middle of a text. And getting one fixed is a real run-around. I've just been told, as of yesterday, Mobilefone repair in NZ aren't servicing them. So where to now?????

  • hi dwaine_pipe This fone is for u.. the internet access u receive from the BB is great cuz its at no extra cost for browsing & u cn use it as a modem @ home but becuase the BB has no 3G it will run a nit slow.. But this fone has everything you have mentioned.. gudluck

  • It doesn't have many features but everything it has works 100%. The phone has perfect reception and sound from the speakers is unusually clear. If you work in construction or outdoors this is the phone for you. Battery life for me is at least 10 days per charge and I can wash the phone if I drop it in cement by accident, which has happened twice already. This phone is not for show-offs, it is for people who want a phone that works. If you are an office worker and want the phone to match your "OffRoad SUV" then rather get an iPhone.

  • does this phone have picture messaging and oes it work with verizon?

  • I run a small company and require access to my phone and emails whilst out on site. I am currently working my way through Blackberrys like they are going out of fashion and have decided that I need to find a more suitable alternative. The main things I need are pop3 email access, long lasting battery, web access and the ability to be dropped and bashed about! Is this the phone for me...? and if not, can anyone recommend a suitable alternative. Thanks!

  • on my 2nd one of these always freezing and not working don't get one these are crap

  • You can't enlarge fonts. I have the same problem and tryed to find out some solution in the phone but there isn't any. Finally I changed my eye-glasses....

  • How or where do you go in to large the contact numbers and names, its very small.

  • AGPS is short for "assisted GPS", ALWAYS and NEVER is your on off switch.

  • You have to change pofile 5 in gprs to www.vodafone.net.nz not vodafone live

  • did you ever end up being able to work this out with the GPS??

  • turn off the gps

  • If youre having problems with your battery just turn off the GPS

  • I own a sonim XP3 and let me tell you that if youre looking for a tough, all weather phone. This is the one. It is a very simple phone without sophisticated futures but instead it has a long life battery ( maybe the longest life battery ever). If you want to surf on the internet, read MS office documents or else.. then you should better think in buying an HTC phone

  • Did some body has a trouble wit the battery My battery life is a day

  • for the internet, u must save ur provider internet setting in Profile 5.

  • Hi every one : I really want to buy a durable cell phone is Sonim good ? And is it really have problem with connecting to the Internet ? Is any one use all of its options without problem ?

  • I am in NZ too and am having the same problem that i cant connect to the net or GPS.

  • So far - 1 year - my Sonim works OK, battery life is fine. What Voltage is used to charge it?

  • He didn't actually break the phone, just cracked the screen. You can clearly see that calls could still be made. So the phone was definetly damaged but not "broken"

  • Had the same problem untill I turned off the GPS. You can't see from the front page that it is turned on - so go check it.

  • Unbelievably faulty phone and firmware. Never again, lesson learned.

  • Just bought one of these phones after reading up on it and i cant even switch on the GPS!!!...the only option in tools is something call AGPS and when i go into that it only says always, never and while not roaming. i thought there is supposed to be an on off switch. even if you dont use the Java app its supposed to give you a position. anyone help, trying to get the Internet working is another story.

  • Best Buy $399.00

  • Hi, the gps seems to not look like working at first as you need to re ask it to check once it has aquired the signal, otherwise it will show waiting for ages. I put the phone outside, press ok, then wait a few minutes and press ok again and it refinds and displays the new data. walk with the phone a bit and repress get data ok, and it will show the new data.

  • Hi, the spare batteries can be brought from Brightpoint or the place you got the phone, I beleive, if still stuck, try e-mailing sonim on Bobs blog on toughestphone.com

  • if u text 5000 messages a month, that means with 8 hours of sleep, you send a text every 6 minutes, your hands will hate you for that dude x'D

  • Evansville, IN U.S.A on AT&T/Cingular network. I typically get 5-7days out of the battery. I have no internet and use 5000txt a month about 500mins a month and use the lamp all the time. This is the only phone i can get to hold up. Will buy again, excellent reception.

  • PR fault. Hilarious.

  • BBC Reporter breaks 'unbreakable' mobile phone at CES

  • Got one replaced after one month (turned off randomly), second phone started to make very poor and crackling sound after four months. This IS too much problems for almost 350Eur phone. By the way, looks like Sonim aftersale support is only to replace defective phones. No firmware upgrades, most questions answered by now almost standard sentence: "we will fix this in the next phone version". Too bad, but true.

  • thanx 2 all of u! was not clear in mind if i should again buy samsung b2100 or sonim xp3pro! but now my mind is clear again; will buy samsung again; had one sold it cause of stupidness and mow buy it again, was wondering if sonim could be ok, cause u hardly can get it in austria, but so far, so many people havin so many problems with that fon, no thanx! tried also nokia 3720classic outdoor, poor fon, not good! will g back 2 samsung thanx again! greatz

  • I've had this phone for about 3 months. So far it has shown to be a really tough and reliable one. Mechanically, it is superbly made. The software could definitely use some improvement. Several times, when I was using some Java apps (two different ICQ apps), the phone had frozen so bad that I couldn't even turn it off, had to remove the battery. I've not been using any Java communication apps ever since. No bugs spotted apart from this. Some of the things could be more customizable. In general, for all the things I use this phone for - call, sms, an occasional photo or voice recording, the functionality is completely adequate. The reliability is great, my friends already tested it's waterproofness (the first time they saw it). Battery life is wonderful as well, I usually charge it as soon as the charge level gets down to 2/4 bars - once around every 6-8 days. That depends on how much I use it, of course. A tip for all the people who'd been having battery life problems: I've noticed that if I turn the phone off, then plug the charge into it, it will completely charge the battery. When I haven't turned the phone off and charged it while it was on, it showed to be fully charged much more quickly (showing all 4/4 bars), but then the charge would drop back very fast. This might be some bug in the charging software/hardware in the phone or the battery, but whatever it is, charging with the phone turned off seems to work great. Try this if you have problems with battery life.

  • Changed my ideas about the concept after having returned two Sonim Quests. It was offered as a bundled offer with a Dutch Vodafone flat-rate internet subscription. Originally, I went for the ruggedized concept and long battery-life, together with the internet-driven Amaze GPS-software. But after two brand-new Sonims failed to deliver even the most basic phone functionality (internet connection, and thus GPS-functionality, never worked at all - battery ran out of steam within a few days), my dealer offered me a not-so-rugged, but infinitely more functional HTC Diamond II, which worked fine right out of the box. Maybe I'll give Sonim another try in a couple of years or so, if they've cleaned up their act and provided they're still in business.

  • JSTRACHAN100 i no where you can buy spare batties as i had to buy one myself www.thephonetrader.co.uk they are brilliant

  • That's funny! I can't even turn the G.P.S. on my phone! When I select it "on," it stays "off."

  • I broke my first one in 2 months, and they replaced it no problem. I don't use G.P.S. or bluetooth on my phone, and the battery doesn't last longer than 24 hours. I don't want to replace this phone, but I can't find a way to buy a couple replacement batteries for it anywhere.

  • well, to start am now experiencing some battery life probs (charging, top up every day) on my second battery. am going to run it down first to reset battery memory and then full recharge, see if that works. secondly very slow reaction on keys to text, times out and screens goes black if you type too fast and finally horrid apps selection, cant complain though at mo. its been abused so many times in my tool bag at home and at work in my fire fighting kit. will deffo purchase the next gen of this model, if sonim listen to there customers ?!?

  • The Sonim XP3 Quest has nutted out many of the previous Sonim Models Software Issues. It has a camera which has never before featured on previous models. The Sonim is made in Canada and is fully branded as a Canadian Phone, many people think the Sonim is an English phone but this is a common misconception.

  • all you out there that have a problem with the battery>>>>> turn off the gps>>>>>> turn it off>>>>>>>>>>>

  • hi can you please give me some advice how to get gps working we are in nz?

  • I run a mobile phone shop, and every one of these phones that we have sold have had to be replaced at least once, some cases three times. Various failures. Batteries lasting less than a day, displays going blank, buttons not working. These phones are supposed to be as tough as a Land Rover, and with all the faults they are having, they seem to about as reliable as a Land Rover too. The upside is the no quibble 3 yr guarantee, which is fantastic ( and needed )

  • It very looks like XP3 Enduro.

  • I've had my quest now for 3 months. There is something wrong with it, as it has started to eat the battery empty within 12 hours. I bought a new battery...still the same problem. Have to return it to the shop.

  • Got yesterday a new one as a replacement. Works OK... I like this phone for it's toughnes. Next model should have bigger, more easily readable fonts, more adjustable profiles and watch as a screen saver. Regards, Teo

  • I had to return my Quest. Loud speaker started to turn off by itself what was very annoying. Had to switch the phone off and on and then it worked fine for some time and then again... Missed few important calls because of that... Another important issue - phone couldn't connect to the PC. I followed the instructions precisely and I connect my Nokias (E71) very often to PC without problems. About using the phone - adjusting the profiles is also too simple. I consider messages as a "not immediately responding conversation" so I like to adjust my phone to be silent when messages arrive. You can't adjust Quest in that way... Otherwise (if everything works as it should) a great and sturdy phone. Now we see If Sonim stick to the warranty statements about replacing malfunctioning items... Regards, Teo

  • they should release a 3g version with gps...

  • Very very reliable, freindly use, loud and clear sound, very good network reception, indestructible and giant battery (I charge it about once a month)some minor problems s.a. mistakes in french translation: Yes, I speak french but I do use it in English because of this issue; GPS is driven trough GPRS or EDGE network, harldy would like to find a software for a self use... Flashlight is very convenient and powerful, FM radio works OK... 3 years of Inconditional garantee from Sonim (exchange with a new one, same model or higher if no longer available) Finally, a top level cellphone "Must Have", except connexion to PC with Windows7 64bit => Maybe a next release of updated software?

  • also look at samsung b2100

  • where in dubai can i find this product and whats the retail on it?

  • got landrover s1 orange and yellow qwests xp3 euro and usa models. i am now a high vis trucker covered now. recommend these phones next time qwad band and no cam just talk and txt please mr pleshkie and bluetooth adp 2.0.endurro still the best ? how about a sat phone combined with quad band gsm ? iridium ? that would sort the 3g camp out no web browsers in site ? that a good one for the ice road boys. sonim i like your products but i am in a minority basic talk and text and sat that would do me on exmoor don"t lauagh keep on trucking . the nokia 6250 lives on in the sonim. iphones no?

  • You wish! Hehe!

  • I want this phone so bad!

  • most excellent phone, quadband yes please and no cam and radio please not rellavant please put out an endurro with quadband and the battery from the qwest please sonim. ice road truckers don"t need these features the polar bear would not need fancy gimmicks talk and text please. look at all these touch screen phones with problems yellow and orange please mr sonim this is a good phone lets see how nokia 3720 takes on the qwest not and the lm801 not and samsung b2100 not sonim rules

  • yes battery is really great!! with lots of everyday phone calls I'm charging it once a week. cheers joe

  • Dam this phone is good! It complies with US DoD MIL standards... I bet it could survive a nuclear holocaust!

  • Just a quadband basic phone with IP67 or better rating plus same or even better battery life as with the XP3.2 Quest will be perfect for me.. Everything else will just be a welcome bonus but it would make it more expensive.. Sonim definitely has to make a more low profile phone while maintaining everything else especially toughness and long battery life.. This is a great idea for the XP2 phone which is missing from the XP series.. I hope you're listening Sonim...

  • Yes I understand but I would've wanted to be able to test it first before purchasing.. But anyway thanks for the reply!

  • it's available on ebay and you can ship it to the philippines.

  • When will Sonim be available in the Philippines? I hope it will be soon so I can get to see it real-time...

  • any idea if the battery life is actually that good

  • splendid! It would even better if it's a quadband/hsdpa.

  • i think this is the perfect phone. i doesnt look cool but i doens give a f... cause u cant break it. i had a lot of phones who broke after a hard night out and this one survives it every time. so i recommend this mf to al teenagers who like 2 party and drink alot. this phone survbives the toilet drop. sounds familiar? buy this phone!

  • thats a bit of a stupid comment to say as i have sold about 20 landrover phones a day on orange mate !!!

  • Pros: durable, very good battery, very good and quick keyboard, strong pocket torch, good signal reception, average camera Cons: very slow browser, hangs out if you type too fast, poor screen sunlight legibility, GPS must be adjusted to work, you have to speak loud when using handsfree, no usefull screen saver (watch?!) When you get used to it phone can become a quite useful companion for basic calls and messages. I'll keep it cos I need a sturdy and simple phone (forestry, wildlife photography) Regards, Teo

  • i have had the xp3 and i have to say its bloody brilliant ! feels great to use and its cool to be able to chuck your phone around without a care. All the features are very well thought out and thank god someone made a phone i can live with.It has a black list so you can bar selected numbers or a white list so only your mum can get through. It really is built like a tank and i cant recommend it enough. have a quest in the post woot !.I'm an apple mac junky but would take this over an I phone any day (in fact i have :)....

  • Users of the Qwest please tell more about the phone.. I want one so please give your feedback.. Thanks! Looking forward to your response..

  • made in sagem

  • What is good about the phone. 1-) First of all it is durable; and I mean durable in all expects. according to sonim website the keypad is tested for half a million pushes. the screen is scratch resistant. you can drop it to concrete from 2 meters etc. etc. for some users those rugged features are very important. this is why I got the N5140. and the money I paid for that phone paid back in a few cases. you can read my 5140 survival stories in 5140's page. (as the dude) anyway 2-)It has a very very very long battery life. 3-)The keypad is very large. Good for guys who have big fingers and have hard time messaging with a N 6300. (I almost got a cramp, trying to press the # button on a 6300) 4-) and it still has a 2Mp camera, memory, gps, etc. What is down about this phone 1-) it is big and heavy as hell, (but might become a martial arts weapon in professional hands :P ) 2-) it does not look stylish like casio's exilim mobile which is also a "tough" mobile. ( and I personally hate casio for producing it exclusively for vorizon) 3-) and it is about $200 more expensive than I would be willing to pay. Yet i would still buy it if I was a truck driver or something; despite the unreasonable price.

  • Does it support Arabic language ? It is sound a good and heavy duty mobile

  • Nice phone for the people who work or play in extreme environments. Will go for it!!!

  • Hi Guys, Clearly its not a Buy for every Tom going to his office there. I really want to have this phone because of its rugged features. It will be a huge success if they Just enable it 3G as that's the future standard and WI-Fi Enabled. We are on the verger of WAN's. A 2009 Model Should have 3g and WIfi capability as Basic. Also on Expansys they have priced it at $499/- So I guess I am just waiting it to be around $350/- and then am gonna just scoop it up .....

  • I love tough phones and Sonim really takes it seriously and I understand that it has to be expensive because production isn't for these truly tough phones... I want to buy one in the future when funds suffice... I love it Sonim hope you can come to the Philippines soon

  • truckers this phone for all seasons

  • Do you knwo how hard it is to make a phone waterproof? not water resistant but water proof. they have to be pressure tested and thats not mentioning the chemical treatment of the glass and the chasis. if you expected to pay $100 for the most toughest phone in the world then you can go back to trolling the net for discount toilet paper. you pay for what you get. this is a great phone i would gladly pay $599 for it.

  • I brought back my sonim to you, sonim phones. Standby 36 h instead of 1500 h, no working GPS, screen not scratch-resistant, not according to standard menu-software: more flop than top.

  • rumour sonim woring on a sat tougie, nout wrong with this gsm xp3 why not carry both numties who can afford a f,in sat phone anyway. this a good piece of kit good foor communication and text, if you want cheaper by the xp1 or xp3 endurro or save up and wait longer to buy the qwest. this better in the real world than a poxy i phone. this a phone nokia used to produce the 6250 new nokia a bit of a tarts hankerchief compared to the xp3. this the best of all tougies at the moment. yorkie bar of the mobile world to tough for girls. mr polar bear roland this a fone for you.

  • i took a dump the other day and it looked very similar to this phone.......needless to say i still want one so i can talk to mister hankey at xmas : )

  • When will Sonim offer a cheaper model? with basic functions: just call and SMS while keeping their strong housing and rugged style and performances. XP3 is tagged at $599 on their website!!!! crazy It would make sense to get this phone for outdoor weekend, I would not pay more than $100 for that.

  • my point is that a real adventure is to travel to a remote place (mountain, delta, forest, desert, savanna, ocean, cave, etc) where you should really use your survival skills and no basic confort could be found nearby - such as a cold beer in a fridge :-) or a 2G/3G antenna ... then, in a such a remote place, only a satellite phone may work... or not... yeah, it's nice to have a phone to smash it to the ground or take a swim with...but by no means could be "the dream phone for adventuring" :-)))

  • buy the yellow one,www.expansys.com got them in now.uk and usa and euro one. can confirm this is a totally good phone good for truckers, and the quarry boys and multi drop drivers. excellent battery bluetooth, landrover s1 locked to orange, buy the yellow xp3 quest you wont loose it in a snow storm. the phone is for work and not posing. get one it will serve you well and the iphone followers you can throw it at them and it will still work.

  • Satellite networks don't always work when you're in a forest and such. Trees easily obstruct it and the satellite handsets may not be so rugged.

  • What's your point? Most networks have more 2G cellsites and most 3g cellsites support 2g. This is an adventure phone. It's that ugly. I kinda like it as it looks rugged. That's my style. When you're on an adventure or a construction site, you would just want to be able to call or text rather than be a geek and browse the net. You'll miss out on what you paid for or you could commit a fatal mistake in a construction site for example.

  • this phone darn heavy, I think it could knock off people if you throw properly :p

  • :-) I don;t get it - how "an exclusive phone for a living adventures"...but working only on GSM800/900/1800 network?!?! ... that's indeed an real adventure ... in a space full of GSM antennas?!?! :-D ...cool, put also a beer in the fridge for me... I think it's merely phone just pose, a serious adventure/surviver phone should work on satellite network...

  • For a rugged phone, this thing has an impressive resume. Very cool. For all you princesses out there who think a phone is what impresses the girls or is a fashion statement... try dunking your phone under water for 1 minute, or drop it from 2 meters a few times. This phone is about function, to be used as a tool. Not as a purse. Also, this phone is only 7mm thicker and about 10 mm longer than the Nokia N96

  • this a cool phone i think it most excellent/yellow the coolest colour. how about a sim free orange one mr pleshke and sort yer distribution out sonim. ice road truckers should be plugging this phone mr polar bear roland look at this ,and ba get one of these to go with your 100inch landrover

  • okay, I will pay $2.50 for it.

  • all the other mobiles step away from the road , i see a heavy weight bull dozer coming towards u lol :-D and its dam ugly :-D

  • This is the new Land Rover phone. Ideal for people that just want a basic but durable handset. Just hope it is made available on the networks not only sim free like the JCB Phone.

  • looks like the mobile phone of optimus prime ;-)

  • This phone is the same spec as Sonim's LandRover S1. The S1 was recently reviewed by Sir Ranulph Fienne's who is the worlds greatest living adventurer, according to the Guiness book of World Records. Sir Ranulph described the S1 as his dream mobile for adventuring. Wow! See the interview here See how tough a sonim is here: and here Disclosure: I work with Sonim.

  • dear all, please look at the size and weight of the phone. horrible...no one is going to bye this crap...

  • wow--- the "t-800" terminator phone

  • terminator phone!!

  • I am waiting for this phone, rugged but sadly it is too expensive with very least feature. They put gps without even 3g support. Too bad, its just recalled my very old nokia phones

  • Perfect phone for heavy weight workers or field peoples .. scratch, duct, shock and everything proof with long lasting battery .. i like it

  • Different phones, for different clients for different applications. Don't judge it by it's appearance. Even a morron that would read the specs could see it's not your average day in the mall phone, so stop bashing it. Quite frankly I think it's a great device...especially for that discovery guy who survives in the wild :))) cheers!

  • This device is screaming "Extreme failure!".

  • I Have been waiting for this device, totally indestructible.

  • ya actually....

  • I see they've corrected it,it now says 2009

  • Is it a phone or dynamite? 18hr talktime superb battery, it make sence! Well, just wait 4 launching this phone.

  • 1500h standby time??? That's 62 days. If it's one third of that it's still amazing.

  • This looks like a weapon of war. ha ha ha. Ugly

  • Look at standby time :o0o

  • It looks like a transformers decepticons type of phone dat turns into a killer tank. 170g is a lot of weight.

  • the casio phone is actually more durable to this phone, and better looking too, much better looking...

  • looks like a hand grenade..lol.. pathetic...

  • oh - my - god whats this , when i look at the pic - this one is like a heavy truck parked in the car lot lol .

  • In november 2008 Sonim XP3 Enduro was announced, you should pay more attention.
