Sony Ericsson J132 - User Reviews

  • The Sony Ericsson J132 was being released back in October 2008. Phonebook capacity is 300 entries at the device. It has mini USB, but only charge, no data. It also has calculator, and two embedded games: Minesweeper and Edacious Snake.

  • Of all feature phones by Sony Ericsson to have a USB port and a headphone jack, it has to be this one. They're so weird sometimes. Oh, and it can also be charged through the USB port, something not all phones with one can do (yes, I'm looking at the Nokia N96).

  • Released January 2009? I don't know what GSMArena are thinking but they're wrong. By September 2008 this phone had already been released and people already had the phone.

  • It's not unique, it's actually an evolutionary design to the Sony Ericsson J120.

  • So you can use the FM radio feature?

  • Ahh...brings back old memories. Got it working after 3 years...

  • The 2 games of this phone are Edacious Snake and Minesweeper

  • This was my mum's old phone :D. Doesn't work anymore but I still have it.

  • Extra phone for that price.Strange extra polifonic melodies. When is set to loud it heard on 100 meters.Graet concuretion for smart phone

  • extra phone for that money a batery.....950ma men 9h talk..crazines

  • my Sony Ericsson j132 for some now could not received network signal what might be the cause? what could i do/

  • Thanks it worked...

  • My phone vibrates when switching on and it stays as it is,till I switch it off. How could I rectify the problem??

  • from where i can find this stylish hand set

  • bought the j132 model for my husband a couple of years ago, now he is on a boys trip to USA in a few months and wants to know if this a quad band phonehe can use there. Aynone know

  • cannot send sms on this phone...tried everything

  • I want to purchase panel for sony ericsson J132 mobile. I couldn't find the panel any where in my area. If any one knows where the panel is available, I will be thank ful.

  • A really rugged, reliable everyday phone. and at a very reasonable price. Mine lives a hard life, I've dropped it a good few times, and it still works faultlessly. The radio is amazingly sensitive too,. Complaint? - The screen material is too soft, and scratches very easily, otherwise Ok.

  • My J132 phone dropped out of the saddle bag (which I forgot to zip) of my bicycle while I was spinning along at 35kph! the phone popped apart and was spread out over several feet of the road. I put it back together and it still works fine after 3 months!!! Try doing that with a smartphone.

  • This is a brilliant, sturdy, robust, cheap, basic phone (cost me £8 about 30 months ago I've dropped mine several times, still working no problems). Standby time is typically around 7 days (but will depend on how strong your signal is). Audio quality is excellent, Ring volume is very loud on Loud setting. Has RDS FM Radio & with HQ headphones in the 3.5mm jack the sound is awesome. Phonebook is 300 on phone, Text seems to be ~100+ (can't be precise, sorry). Nice postive click (dust-resistant)keypad. Minor downsides - can't add words to dictionary, can't tell if SMS message is on SIM or Phone, have to view SIM & Phone contacts seperately but can copy from one to other. Alarm has to be set each time, but easy to do. Really good value for money (if you don't want camera, frills and all).

  • Most robust phone I have ever come across. It fell from some 2nd 3rd floor and was still working - no repairing required. I even bet with my friends that they can drop this phone as many times as they want, after some 4 5 tries even they give up ;) Also, Once I went inside a water pool with this phone inside my pockets. After i realized it I just took it battery out and kept it for drying. After 2 3 days it started working - no repairing reqd. So if you have a habit of playing with your phone like a ball like me go for it!!! No matter how many times you drop it, doesn't matter...

  • very thick keypad 4 mesagin n has a good battery lyf

  • i think it's a great phone...all it does is text messaging and send/receive calls...and nothing more but besides the fact that i don't really care about that a phone does or can do, all i want is to text message and call or receive a call from someone. so for me this it an 10+ phone...

  • I hate this for many reasons.Do not buy this phone.

  • same thing happens with my phone, one of the worst mobile i have ever come across

  • i beg you not 2 make a mistake like i did a year ago, i bought this mobile and ever since am having problems with it, the phone keeps restarting after a call or after sendin/recevin a message, now a new problem has occured to my cell, i cant save a number to contact list, and when i receive a call its doesnt show any details of the person calling,i.e his number or the name, just a letter "A calling" flashes, when am receiving a call, pls dont buy this damned phone, there are lot of cons in this mobile like the keypad is very very hard not good for messaging, the pros are good battery life, good radio reception,

  • Its a bad model..gets switched off very frequently even when attending calls or sending messages or even in standby mode..once it got swicthed off and didnt swicth on for 3 days altogether in spite of removing the sim and battery and cleaning the phone..started working sudddenyl after 3 days..

  • The "Flashlight" is just the screen becoming white!!

  • the charger is standard mini usb.

  • is the charger same with other sony ericsson phone???i need a cheap phone as my second SE hp..

  • my speaker is not work of j132

  • i wand to rigntone j132

  • 1-does it have good keybord for typing? 2-how is it's battery life? 4days?

  • i want to delete my recent message list!so plz help me

  • put your speakers jack within its audio jack and enjoy radio with your loudspeaker 2.1 or anything as its jack is like that of your pc

  • tis a shite phone. avoid it at all costs unless you want something disposable

  • better than nokia 1661/1662 their rings sounds are very low

  • How to enable the standby mode in this phone?

  • An excellent talk and text phone with FM radio and stereo hands free kit.The solid feel and dust-resistant keypad make it an ideal everyday companion.

  • its 962/-rs INR @univercell.in

  • To open this phone, there is a little spot on the bottom back (Under the J132). Pull it down with your fingernail. It will only go down a little bit toward the miniusb slot. Then use your other hand to put a fingernail in the usb slot--pull in opposite directions and it should pop open.

  • this phone is useless you cant even take pictures off conors stupid tattoo

  • this phone is the best phone i have ever had and i have had blackberries and i phone........ i can text all day without looking at the screen in work under my desk.... so take that stevie and craig

  • to all those who think of buyin this phone....my suggestion is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....for mainly these 3 reasons.. 1.the UI of the phone is very slow...so browsing through contacts and messages are very frustrating 2.damage prone even to a very samll impact 3.lenght of the power cord is very vry slow.... well if u want a phone which is even better with a cheaper price tag...i recommend nokia experr radio or the samsung wireless radio one.....

  • i actually send this as a gift to kicks and he was very very much happy state: :"oh' i've been waiting this phone since my birth thank you very much jus call as anytime"

  • When I sent msgs to my frnds so there was some recipient mobiles nos, want to know that how I can delete recipient numbers from nu sony errcsson phonee and I had alreay tried Go to edit recipients on the Options menu when youre texting. Butt itss useless soo plzz helpp mee

  • no option is there

  • The handset is not saving My name while it is saving My no. Is it a problem of the set or defect in my handset only.

  • very nice mobil

  • I see from the Messaging> Messaging tips>Writing tips in my phone that it says "select spell to write a word that is not one of the suggestions". However, I do not see that option at all. Can someone please help?

  • Very good phone, does what is said on the box - a phone! But if I do not open a text message within a short period it goes to the saved box with no indication which can be a pain.

  • hey boss, reliance of 1200 has better features, it can record the speech. if any one has time and money to waste can buy this. knighthawk

  • this phone restarts even during standby times, and just lately its just hangs. lame model. sheeesh

  • How to open the casing? this set hang on off time it's very disturb for me the new time.

  • sony ericsson J132 phone is waste model in the mobile world. its giving the lot of noise while talking on the phone as well after call get disconnected also. just 20 days back I bought this immediatly speaker problem not able to hear ring sound even I put loud option. its waste model

  • any one know how to show date in home page screen of this phone. I can able to see time but not date

  • hey guy how u expect tat feature for 1400...

  • i and family then friends like sony brand mobiles and cameras and dvd . we sony brand used last 7 years. your quality is best. we like mobile feauters , but we wait for dual network mobile so kindly publesh dual network mobiles.

  • if u want a radio set then just go for it with lose eyes

  • i dont like it becuz it doesnt have a camera lol XD

  • Bought this cheap for INR 1850.00. Radio is OK. 3.5mm jack is cool. The only thing bad about the phone is the contacts management. The phone memeory is just 300 and does not gives the option to view both the sim and phone contacts at the same time..Dont know what to do

  • hello , can anyone help me soon ? i want to buy this phon. but i want to know how many sms can hold in its memory? (inbox,sent,draft...) this is very important for me. thanks

  • cost = benefit

  • It is very difficult to send text sms. Only a single theme is provided. Is it possible to change the theme?

  • Pathetic phone to buy.... It get switched off autometically minimum four time a day....Battery is good but text messaging is very difficult... The overall performance is below average.

  • The design is clean and crisp - easy to grip maybe because of the back cover. The phone is very solid, it has a good battery life, charges using on my computer using a USB cord jack, and the radio with RDS works perfectly anytime I need it. It is the best basic phone I've used so far.

  • you just change your handsfree use some other 3.5mm jack for good sound quality

  • i bought mine yest... did u get any probs wit screen ???

  • Thanks a lot. The information to open the back was very useful. It is not present even in the user guide. None of my firends/collegues could help me

  • sony ericsson j132 typ AAA -1002092-BV AB T26

  • This phone is rubbish. Just horrid to use. I hate it. I've had it a week and lines have started appearing on the screen. It will be going back and they can repair it as I'm not happy with it. It's awkward to text with, and why does it have to make a stupid beep noise loudly when I make a phone call? Pants Phone.

  • why does this phone has 3.5 mm jack it's not even music phone but it maybe because of better listening of radio

  • If you want to waste your money then you can buy this phone. It is the worst basic phone I ever bought.Has little advantages but lots of disadvantages. No option to send contacts. Cant turn off the sound after Message sent. Torch is not as bright as other Nokia basic phones like 1280 & 1100. Only 10 ringtones,no option to download. Only 4-5 wallpapers. Cant turn off or turn on dictionary with one click. Its not value for money. I would rather prefer Nokia 1650 which is a lot better phone at the same price.

  • If you want a no nonsense phone thats got buckets of battery life, great sound quality. loud ring tones, and a very decent price tag, you'd be hard pressed to beat Sony Ericsson J132 or basic Nokias, if you want a gadget that does everything else get an iPod touch, 'cos having a phone with decent battery features seriously outweighs any gimmicks

  • Just got mine today. Looks more expensive than it is. as a basic PHONE, its excellent, especially for a yong student like me. if u want multimedia, just buy an ipod like i did. anyways, nobody uses a cell for more than ayear or two.

  • I have an iPhone but seeing as this phone is half the price of my excess fee for insurance I've bought one for the crazy nights out.....PERFECT!

  • This is an absolutely GORGEOUS! phone.... Dust proof keypad, with exclusive sony ericsson's night light technology makes this phone a must have for all torch enthusiast's Digital RDS stereo radio speaker system, Quality! Do not hesitate to purchase this phone if asked..

  • It cost 4.95 at Carphone Warehouse. That's a throw-away price. I used it on a week long holiday in Britain. Calls, including international, were clear and crisp, never had a reception issue. Phone held a charge for several hours of conversation and plenty of standby. Did I mention it cost 4.95? If you want a basic, quality, realiable phone without a built-in camera or toaster this is the one.

  • The calendar is just a simple calendar - there is a separate function for reminders.

  • You said that this phone can't input reminders in the calendar? is that true?? i was planning to buy this phone, until i read your opinion.. so you can't put any reminder in the phone?? just a SIMPLE calendar??

  • I just got mine hours ago and it is the best low-end phone I had in years. It has a USB port-like slot and it charges with the manufacturer charging unit as well USB cord. The 3.5mm audio slot works fine with any earpiece device - so it works just like a normal handheld radio. It has a 4mb memory - you can't transfer files though.

  • I said I might buy this phone because my job nature needs such a heavy duty low cost phone but common NO bluetooth! NO USB how will I transfer data, mind reading!?

  • obviously da fone soo cheap and old so y would it have WiFi and fings!!! pointlesss hahahaha

  • Do you think I should but this Sony Ericsson Heaven Blue phone?

  • I bought the specific mobile phone before one month and i am absolutely dissapointed.Sony-Ericsson says in the specifications of the mobile phone that the mobile has talk time up to 9 hours and stand by time up to 450 hours. This mobile only lasts about 1,5 hour talk time and about 90 hours stand by time.

  • No camera, no WiFi (it is low-end phone!), no repeating alarm clock (only one non-repeating alarm), calendar is not used as input or output for appointment (offers only passive view as desktop calendar). Poor display. But it has radio with RDS, 3.5mm phones jack and birthdays calendar! Good keypad feedback (for SMS). It is not excellent phone but it could be very useful.

  • look at the phone turn it on pretty sure mine has culour screen

  • I JUST bought this Phone TODAY!! .. the ONLY so-called "ADVANCED-Feature" that this Phone has is a Built-In 'RDS Radio' and thats about it really .. (as this Phone is NOT Colour, eg. has a Monochrome Screen .. having things like a Phone-Camera &/or SAT-NAV capabilities, etc., etc., would be somewhat pointless, no???) .. lol. :) In a bit.

  • the phone hasnt even got a camera so i doubt it on the wifi and sat nav front!!!!

  • Is it true that this phone does not feature a daily repeating alarm clock?

  • just found this phone on carphone warehouse website for 4.95 + topup. The specs say it has wi-fi and a camera, is this true?

  • i bought j132 model yesterday. i want to know how to delete the recently used recipients in this mobile ?

  • why daily i have to set the alarm?

  • tipe in #31# and then the phone number

  • 300

  • Yesterday i bought this phone and i am satisfied as i wanted a third very basic phone. It's maybe strange but the sound is better than the SE w302 which sound was like some poor, cheap chinese toy. I bought the w302 month ago and after a week i gave it away. Another thing that is better than w302 is the informations about the calls. I still can not imagine how the w302 didn't have full informations about the calls, like the time of the call. Also the radio is fine, just i don't know how to set the volume of the alarm much higher as it is very low and there is no possibility of increasing it. And for 25 euros as i paid here in Macedonia is doog basic phone.

  • 1. How to take the back off as need to replace SIM card: There is a step by step explanation diagram on the box flaps !

  • let me know the phonebook memory of this handset...

  • Its difficult to fast-type at the same keypad, it must waiting the cursor for standby. More using FM = more battery empty.

  • phone will be good and do the job as long as you don't buy it from phones 4 u because it will reck your life

  • Faltu,bakwaas,3rdclass piece of junk

  • but keypad is not gud in wrking

  • This phone lasts about 3 and a half days on minimal settings and use, about 1hr talk time and 30/40 texts and alarm or two. The other day i put the brightness and volume to maximum settings and in less than a days time it was almost depleted( from full charge). Very basic phone, i wanted a basic phone but this really is too basic ! lol.Worth the price tho and it is good for radio only. games aint that good and you can't add anymore

  • Would like to purchase Sony J132. What about it's Phone book capacity? Can we store the phone numbers in 4 MB internal memory? Also like to know about the speaker's sound clarity

  • I have been using this for about three months as my moto v8 faied to bounce when i dropped it and smashed into a million bits. Superb battery (i use constantly during the day for sms and talk), good radio, got it for 4.80 from CPWH. Two weeks to go before new handset arrives, just hope new one matches upto battery life. Simple no frills, no camera no mp3 but hey it works really well. WELL HAPPY!

  • what yahiiiiiiiiiii

  • auuuu voting result now (march2009) is 7.6 - 7.6 - 7.7 uauuuuuu.in my opinion is overrated big time (design I'm not talking it is a matter of personal choice but performance and specially !!!!features in my opinion should be 2.5 for a 2008 model the features are... in fact there aren't almost any) is understandable because of the price range about 10 pounds in UK (Jan2009) I'm using it for 3 months and the readers are misguided by the 7.6 average votes for features, but good phone 4 THIS !!!! PRICE

  • hi I have it for 3 months already and it works OK.. after one month (10-20 TOTAL hours of playing) radio doesn't work anymore. sound is almost good sometimes on a noise street i wold like it to be louder. reception is OK. battery OK 2-5 days used with 1000mins/month contract with RANDOM daily usage, menu simple not many options. Good choice for this price (10(price)+10(to pup) pounds=12+12euros=15+15usd in UK dec2008) overall at this PRICE money well spended. Ps read the specifications specially what this phone doesn't have like bluetooth and many others

  • Please tell me if u have found out how to off the sound after a message has been sent and the rest of the sounds are on, for ex: ringing, vibes, everything ... Cos if u haven t I won t buy this phone. That s my personal condition. Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • What do u mean out? Completely switched off or? Does the alarm ring when it s on total silent? Thanks

  • HI just yesterday I bought one SE J132, I am a totally mobile freak and know all features and uses of mobiles but since I have used nokia since years I was bored of it and wanted to use SE or other brand and since I got BSNL lifetime card I wanted to buy a simple basic fone for additional use, in my other nokia fone with airtel i use all features, now lets talk about SE J 132, liked it amongst other nokia, LG, Samsung which were in 1400 - 1800 range, it cost me 1800 bucks, best feature is radio, n the headfone jack, now i need to experiment with USB cable and see whether can it be connected to computer n we can hack / modify it or not.. rest features are fine as just bought it yesterday havent used much,,, torch is just addition not much useful but ok ok ,,, mean light will be stable for long time,, one problem is there dont know whether its network or handset, from my airtel sent one sms yesterday night to my BSNL SE J132 but still not received the sms, but received other sms which is sent from BSNL no to same bsnl no,,, i.e sent myself the msg i received that message,, the thing i miss is that it doesnt have feature of profiles like in nokia so that u can easily set preferences n change them at touch of button for meetings outside, vibration etc etc,,,, lets see how my experience of SE J 132 goes, thanks for reading this review [email protected]

  • How to use voice memo ? Where is that function in telephone menu ?

  • Great phone, I LOVE it! Have had many phones, mostly Nokia but this is the one I like most of all. Love the radio, its excellent.Would certainly recommend it.

  • How to use voice memo ? Where is that function in telephone menu ?

  • how can u activate the hide number????

  • How do I take the back off as need to replace SIM card.

  • EDIT: It's actually Menu -> Settings -> ADVANCED -> Brightness -> (press down = the Phonebook symbol on the main, chrome-framed button). Sorry about that error.

  • You're wellcome :) About battery life You haven't been lied to, but they didn't exactly tell you the "whole truth and nothing but the truth" either. The battery life they stated is calculated in IDEAL conditions, which are always pretty far from REAL conditions. That means several things: A) Your cellular provider's antenna is probably further away than when they tested - this makes a difference even when you don't talk or message on your phone because at that times phone is "ready to recieve/deliver" state so you can receive SMS (or incoming call) as soon as some other user sends it. B) They tested standby time with virtually no calls and messages incoming and outcoming on the phone - you probably text and call atleast some time between recharging it and that changes the battery life. Basically anything you do with it will affect battery life as it consumes energy - saving phone numbers, using torch, radio or calendar... C) To make your battery last longer you may want to do several things: - turn off vibration if you don't need it - lower the speaking and ringtone volume and dont use speakerphone - lower the brightness of the screen Menu -> Settings -> Brightness -> (press down = the Phonebook symbol on the main, chrome-framed button) Hope this helps :)

  • thank you for your informations. and to reply to Roual about battery life: i agree that is decent (for me it keeps the phone working for a week), but from what specifications says is quite different. so this for me represents a minor problem (i'm feeling like i have been lied - it should work more than 1 week) the reason why i baught the phone is that i like basic phones (i don't use those mumbo jumbos: cameras, players, internet connection etc. - even the radio i don't use it) and another reason why i baught it is the keypad (i like it a lot). i wanted this kind of keypad to a mobile phone for a long time (it's quite what i had in mind about a useful keypad).

  • A) Unfortunately, that is not possible with this phone - Vibration is either set off or on - there is just one setting for all loudness types. If you carry this phone to school or similar places maybe it's best to turn the vibration off altogether. I don't find it too useful - if the phone is in my jacket I usually can't feel the vibe, and if it's on my desk it either rings or the screen starts flashing on the incoming call (so I see the call even if its on silent with vibration turned off). B) Time is set by: Menu -> Settings -> Time and Date and then you're in submenu where you can change time: I suggest you first change time format to your preference, then time then date. Good luck!

  • Hi all. I actually like the J132. I am considered by my friends to be a phone guru, because i have owned every single one in the Nokia communicator series from the original 9000 to the new E90. I have also LG Viewty, N95, SE k850 and most other High-end phones. The J132 in my opinion isa simple basic and straight forward phone. Ideal for a 1st time buy or a child. Its not customizable, so no music or ringtones or pictures or themes or anything like that, but it's still decent. Battery life is good. I am on my phone for about 6 or 7 hours per day and it still lasts me 2 days without charging. I like the weight and size too. Wasnt so sure about the 'torch functionality'. All i is, is a white screen and depends on how bright you have set your display. Here in England i paid 5 plus 10 top-up on Virgin network which also works fine with t-mobile network. For 5, i think it is EXECELLENT value for money.

  • How to put date on screen, like time appears? Is there any way to turn off vibration, but when you press silent button to turn it on again? Because i noticed that if the vibration is turned off and is set to silent, it won't vibrate when someone calls (i want vibration off when using ringtone) thank you in advance for your answers

  • hiiiiiiii, this hand set is very good but this set betrry is low. the most advantage is looking very simple & nice............

  • My battera lasts 8 days - not used! I am very disappointed because I bought it due to 18 days stanby time. Anybodty similar experiences?

  • awesome handset with usb charger and 3.5mm headset, so i can enjoy the radio anywhere and without carrying my charger because its use usb to charge the battery, i like hear the radio via my laptop speaker... its like real radio...

  • i have never been so blown away by the amount of features and gadgets on a phone! this is definate must for 2009. and the vibrate function is so strong, my bum is still tingling merrily.

  • i bought it cause i need a mobile without a camera and with radio for the army. It is not that bad if you know what are you paying and for or you need a such phone. The main menu is very simple and very basic but it is well built as a plus i consider the option to minimize the radio. The sound quality is good both for ringing and talking. Although sms writing performance and easiness have nothing to do with a more expensive phone (you cannot erase a message from the list, t9 is not capable for new words) it supports group messaging and with a key the swap between the writing methods and languages. Battery is really amazing and the overall phone quality its not so cheap as the keypad is better from a few more expensive phones.

  • this phone really suck, u lost your money value if you buy it...really regret

  • when did the phone come out and can you put music and pictures on it

  • it does not support usb

  • The "Torch" function only displays a white screen, but it can be usefull.

  • Hi, the mini usb port seems to only be used to charge the battery.

  • Hello guys bought this phone a month ago, Its really a good mobile. Now got some question is this phone really support USB, if it is where should i download the drivers? Couldn't see the drivers on Sony Ericsson website...

  • Is this phone come with a "Torch" ?.

  • Finally got hold of this phone, but I am really disappointed because of the lack of entering my own words in the T9 mode. Sigh... Guess I should just return to using nokia's low-end sets.

  • Anyone know if this phone has "acept call" ability (whitelist) like any other se phone? So i dont have to hear a call from someone that not in my phonebook..

  • I explained it and I think I was precise enough. To repeat myself: Instructions on how to open it: there is a small hole in the back of the phone. Use your fingernail on that hole, pull it downwards (towards the USB and earphone connectors). It will click and slide down aproximatelly 1 mm. Now hold that small part that slided firmly, with fingernails of one hand and stick your other hand's fingernail (index finger) into MiniUSB port. Pull in opposite directions, it will open. To eject battery there's a small hole inside on the lower part (close to USB ports), where you stick fingernail or screwdriver and it will pop out. SIM card is under the battery, easy to put in and remove. If you eject the battery you will have to set the time & day again, but that's liek 15 seconds work.

  • It#s been asked before.....but no clear answer How do you get the back of the phone to insert battery and SIM card?

  • Alarm clock doesn't work when phone is out!!! No spelling suggestions, you can't add words to the dictionary. Pitty because the rest is good.

  • its t9 typing speed is above average i.e. faster than other brands except Nokia. i can type 'complicated' twice fast w/o problem when all the keys were pressed correctly. since there's no memory slot the stereo FM radio with RDS is very useful cos its 3.5mm audio jack is compatible with any standard earphone! the best thing abt J132 is its price in UK. it cost just 4.84 plus 10 airtime purchase. i only paid 4.84 in total after trade-in my old nokia phone. and its unlocked too. Efire -> go for it. its better than j120

  • Hi zest im from Singapore too. Haha... Based on my experience on my j120, to enter your own word you just have to press up to reach the last entry which is to spell your own word. As for the message tone I believe you need to put the phone to silent mode (not keypad tone) in order to mute the send message tone. Anyway, could you help me do a simple test on the J132's messaging, by typing any long words like "complicated" twice using fast keystrokes and the T9 and see if it will be able to display the words without 'forgetting' any keypress? (My J120 showed me "Complace complia" -_-) Thanks! :)

  • i bought this phone a few days back ago in Singapore @ S$60. great phone for those who do not need camera. 1) However, i want to point out that when using T9 for sms, there is no spell suggestion. Meaning that, if you want to type a word that has no spelling suggestion, you have to off the dictionary can manually type the word that you wanted. So i want to ask if anyone know how the "Spell" suggestion will come out? 2) also when message is sent, it give a message tone ( key tone sound is off), anyone know how to off that? other than that, this hp got great battery life cos i been using the 2nd day after charing the phone and its still full bar. =)

  • Can anyone who owns this phone comment on the messaging speed? I own a J120 and something that annoys me is that the phone cannot catch up with my typing speed. When I type too fast, especially when pressing a same button twice, it will simply forget the keypress. Other low end phones from Samsung and Nokia take time to display what i type but eventually what i was typing always show up, so its not as bad. Please help me consider whether to do the 'upgrade' from j120 to j132. :)

  • If you eject the battery you will have to set the time & day again, but that's liek 15 seconds work. If the phone turns off because the battery is empty but you don't remove battery it will remember time & date. That's because when the phone turns off on "battery empty" it means there is not enough power left to make a phonecall. But there is enough power left in the battery to run the internal clock until you recharge it, so you won't have to enter the time all over again.

  • Mine has excellent battery life, if I don't talk very much battery lasts at least a week, sometimes 10 days, and phone is on all day every day, sometimes when I sleep. I always charge the phone when the phone's off and battery is completely empty. This is version for European market (says EU 900 when I open the lid), branded by T-Mobile Croatia (basic prepaid). Instructions on how to open it: there is a small hole in the back of the phone. Hope this helps.

  • During a phone call (while calling), press up or down button (navigation button: FM or Address book) This phone has 3.5mm audio jack and mini usb port. Can be charged from PC or Laptop using standard mini usb cable. Good battery life. While this is the cheapest, it has the feature of the most expensive SE phone. This phone can share the same Charger with SE X1.

  • Does anyone (who actually has one of these)know/ can check - when you loose power (dead / remove battery) does the phone loose its settings? i.e date and time. For occasional use and may go a while without a charge, don't want a phone i have to set up every blue moon before i use it. Thanks

  • what is the price of this phone & how his fm sound

  • its not really a great phone. It is suitable for user who any use mobile phone before.

  • It is very good phone and it as good battery life i am geting good battery pack up also .i am using it .

  • HI, Press fm radio button for increasing & phone book for decreasing.

  • great little phone...but how do you turn up the volume during a call!!specs say volume keys @ side of phone but i dont see them...can anyone help(apart from buying volume control headphones)

  • hi the phone is very bad battery life is too short as china model only use in that phone is fm sound is quite good

  • the torch is not good should have one like the nokia 1208

  • hmm. . . looks like the copy of nokia's 1100. . . the torch function and the keypad?

  • Isn't it ironic that this low end phone has a 3.5 mm jack but other Sony Ericsson *ERM WALKMAN PHONES!* have that stupid proprietary jack?

  • If not mistaken entry level phones like S302, W302, F305, J132, K330 is not purely made by SE but by Sagem. So maybe there's is incompatibility like in themes, application etc. From now all entry level phones from SE will be made by Sagem.

  • sounds like a challenge u would need to do on the krypton factor

  • 9 euros in prepaid at PHONE HOUSE stores in france!!!!!!!

  • To get the back off Just push the catch on the back down, grip the side of the phone at the bottom with one hand and the top and bottom of the phone with the other and pull apart.

  • Must be a firmware bug dude, take it to the service centre...

  • Very short battery life- less than 2 days. Besides has a tendency to turn off during the talk. Very disspointed. Do not recommend to anyone!

  • what's the point of the 3.5mm jack in this phone????? SE are so strange, they should put it into the walkman phones.

  • how the hell do I get the back off to put the bloody battery in?

  • super cheap one, 7.5pounds i would prefer it!

  • Can any user of this phone tell whether this phone supports group messaging/distribution lists?

  • nice phone

  • i know that its basic phone, but i m happy that i could haf a phone, so i would nt request much.but the problem is that my mum would nt buy mii a phone!=( so i wish that it can b my x'mas gift!=)

  • it basic model

  • i feel like having dis phone!!! i m 14 dis year n i do nt have a handphone,so i would really want to haf such a phone !!!!

  • i agree !!! thats the reason y sony ericsson design a basic and reasonable price phone 4 ppl that cant afford expensive phone!!!=)

  • Absolutely amazing phone for the money. Paid 9.87 inc delivery from T-Mobile for it. The radio is excellent and with it's radio alarm function is great with my itrip and ipod. 3.5mm Jack means I can use high quality headphones easily with it. It is simple to use and well designed. It is small, light, robust and dust free. Txting is easy enough and calling is simple. Only problem I have with it is dosen't have a standard ring ring noise for a call. So I use the Ping Ping noise... Which sounds OK and means I can tell the difference between normal phones :) The torch isn't brilliant and is just a white screen but does the trick in poor lighting for finding your keys etc. Battery life is excellent and lasts and lasts. In conclusion if you don't mind not having fancy bits and bobs on your mobile then this is the phone for you. It does exactly what it should do faultlessly. If you want good quality and simple... Get it!

  • u r insulting ppl that r poor...sorry...this phone may be design for students...so it does nt have a lot of function...

  • i have a question! currently im using a 3g phone, and my sim card can store 500 contacts. my phone can store 1000. im going to get this phone, BUT SINCE THIS PHONE CAN ONLY HOLD 300 CONTACTS, when i put my sim card in, will all my 400+ contacts still be saved (if i access my contacts through sim card)

  • Hi , Got the cover off eventually, but not at all easy. Apart from that , what excellent value @ 8 I've ended up buying 3 of them, and my parents are now extremely chuffed after I replaced their antique nokia :-)

  • Could nt ask for anything better! Its excellent, the ring volume is enough to wake the dead!!! The radio is also!, nothing short there as it is sony!!! - seriously though, the built in radio is an excellent addition, and very well designed!!! the clarity of the speaker and head phones is excellent, and the charger even works with my creative zen mp4 player! Excellent!!! - for 10, i couldnt complain, the games that come with it are the snake games and something else, im not sure, colour screen etc, a good buy!!!

  • To open the back we just stuck a knife under the pull down catch and it came off - i'm sure thats not the right way to do it but it worked !! Bought in Asda for 8.00 can't complain at the price !!

  • Wake up Gsm Arena it s avalibile in Croatia

  • Have you tried to pull the latch down (under the J132 logo)? Then lift the back cover up.. Just like my J120 coz i think they're alike.. Usually it all explained on the manual.. I wonder why there's none..

  • Just picked this up in Asda for 8 I'm third person to ask HOW DO YOU REMOVE COVER TO INSERT BATTERY & SIM ? nothing in instructions

  • Hmmm, I just cant open the case to get the battery in it!!!

  • Good!

  • It's pretty the same with my J120 UI.. You can't change the ringtone volume manually, just use the 'discreet' if you don't want your phone ringing to loud.. About T9 in writng sms, when you start sms then press option, dictionary, don't use dictionary.. Hope that will solve your problem.. Coz my J120 has that option..

  • ive just got this phone for 8 in asda for my mum who just likes basic phones. the problems with it i've got are that you cannot adjust the ringing volume the only options are silent, normal, discreet and loud. the normal option has a warning about loud ringtones! we don't want deafening ringtones! also when texting it automatically goes to predictive text which is difficult to use (i have only just learned her how to text normally) and you cannot change the settings to multitap, you need to change it each time you go to send a text. if anyone knows how to change the ringing volume or how to keep the text on multitap please let me know!

  • hmm.. nice design with good screen size , better than J120 screen size LoL , new charger & handsfree port is nice , so Sony Ericsson is wake up now??? LoL

  • I want one. Simple, cheap and durable phone with no camera and long battery life is something I've been looking fof for a while now. I like that it has FM radio and torch function too, no BS, just the essentials.

  • This fone uses new kind of charger, like mini usb.. And 3,5mm jack also.. And X-peria uses this kind of charger and 3,5mm too.. So SE is introducing their new charger and jack for the very first time for their simple basic fone and extreme high end one.. Funny thing..

  • just got this phone yesterday as i need a phone without camera. i must say i'm pretty happy with this cute little phone, it's membrane keypad feels really solid, radio is gd, i love the short cut access to all neccessary functions (basically it has everything that you normally will need) other than camera. Of cos the lovely 35mm jack is a godsend. the only thing i'm not tt please abt is that the navigation keys would have been so much nicer if it's "anodised" not chromed.

  • So.. This fone has 3,5mm jack with no fastport.. I wonder what kind of headset and charger that bundled with it? Strange.. But 3,5mm has a good point in here..

  • Amir - you cannot block numbers or text messages. Keypad is very good for a basic phone. The Navi key is excellent. ( Nokia take note ). Available at ASDA in the UK for a bargain 8 on the T-MOBILE NETWORK. Ringtones are loud but there are not many. Phone holds 300 contacts. Press and hold down 0 to activate torch which is a bright white screen. Press and hold down # to activate silent mode. Menu is very clear and easy to understand and navigate. Back cover is a bit fiddly to get off, you have to slide the lock back on the back cover and from the bottom use your finger nails to open back cover. Overall though, this is a very good basic phone and much better than nokia basic phones which have went down the drain. More ringtones would have been welcome though and there is no RING-RING RINGTONE but this phone is a great start for Sony Ericsson to improve on. Well done Sony Ericsson ! 8/10

  • thanks ericsson and also gsm arena*****************

  • hi everyone,if u have this phone can u check in this phone we can block numbers and text messages?also tell me is this phone keypad is good or bad?also tell me which cheap price handset have this spec? pls reply a s a p because i need to buy or not to buy if those spec dont have then.....?thanks

  • anyone tell me how u get the back off

  • hahaha. funny when sony ericsson does the basic phones, they are so much better.

  • I've seen the black one at Tesco and it's being sold for only 8 for T-Mobile PAYG. I like the black very much. I hope I can buy one which is not locked to any network. Keypad feels so nice.

  • Hey, Is that in England? Thanks :)

  • Cute little phone..awww dont matter that it has no camera

  • This is only 10 at fonehouse Payg

  • Wow no camera...

  • in Indonesia only cost USD 50.00.. amazing....

  • 2 word describe this thing.... NO COMMENTS.. no camera

  • Great phone with 3.5 mm jack WELL DONE Sony Ericsson .....!!

  • this phone is priced at 70$ here in US.....

  • finaly... it was about time for SE to see the niche. buy why only for us.i want to use it everywhere!!! it seem like a perfect work phone, when you work outside...So, i`m waiting for it

  • This seems like a very good basic phone. Its about time Sony Ericcson came up with something like this; WELL DONE ! I usually buy nokia basic phones but they are no good anymore as you CANNOT hear them ringing outdoors. Torch facility and FM radio are great features. I note that the phonebook has a capacity for 200 entries. Does anyone at GSM ARENA or anybody know how many texts this phone can store ? Many thanks....

  • r u sure mohit that se j132 price is 1700/- only.

  • Looks like SE has woken from a deep slumber, if this 3.5mm jack on this phone indicates the shape of the things to come. But, the sooner it embraces 3.5mm with the Walkman lineup, the better. And, this model is to counter the Nokia entry leve handsets namely 1200, 1208, 1209 and likes for Indian markets where such models give a massive volumes. Good move on the rubberised dust resistant keypad and the torch part.

  • Radio

  • Whats the purpse of 3.5 mm jack aside from headphone!... hek!

  • hey, it is totally different from OT 311!! open your eyes! both!! j132 has unique design. n also, has protrude button that make us press the button easily.. SE rules

  • replica of the ALcatel OT 311 from 5-6 years ago. and you thought nobody would notice :D

  • put 3.5 mm on w-phones!

  • Hi Mohit, I heard it has a phonebook of around 500..u mentioned its around 200

  • this phone is so not sony ericsson. first, everybody noticed it has a 3.5 jack, which has never ever been on a sony ericsson phone. and the space is on the 0 button. just like nokia. sony ericsson trying to beat the popukarity of low-end phones. GOOD JOB

  • one of SE main and strong money making areas which other mobile brands are still weak in is the accessories. would you buy a high end earphones from SE or a Sony/JVC/ B&O earphones if they give you a 3.5mm jack on the high end models. They have done their maths, my friends.

  • its look like dam good cell well done SE 3.5mm jack i love to use it on cell to listn radio who said that its useless,?? ? time will come those people using this phone

  • I used to own a K750i, bloody brilliant phone. I did find however that it was a bit on the fragile side. What I wanted was one of those sturdy little Nokias but with the features I used on the Sony Ericsson, that is, the radio and the flashlight. This phone? I'd buy it, no questions asked.

  • alex, you put 3.5mm jack on this phone so you can listen to the radio. Not your own tunes. Please click on "Pictures" link under the picture of the phone. Radio features prominently.

  • They must be joking. Is it really SE? Because SE doesnt have 3.5 mm audio jack. Hah. What a waste! SE management should realize walkman needs it most.

  • I lyk sony erricson... a lot but wot i find so totally confusing is Y???? Y wud u out a 3.5mm Jack on a fone wit 10MB an no memory card slot!!! can ANY1 on earth pls answer dat???

  • Wow! SE finally puts in a 3.5mm port for regular headphones. Some people, like myself, would like good, reliable phone. If it includes a media player, then it's wonderful but at least use the industry standard of the 3.5mm port instead of the proprietary port that SE uses on their other phones! So what if it's a basic phone?! NOT everyone can afford to spend >$300 on a cell phone. The design of the J132 could be better! Hopefully when the phone finally ships, the media player is actually that good! SE is facing STIFF competitin from Nokia and Samsung on the music phones! If only SE would finally put the 3.5mm port into the rest of the SE phones Especially the Walkman line!!

  • wow 3,5 mm jack

  • This is a cellphone. A updated version of a cellphone. Nothing more. Nothing less. But finally, for people who just want a cellphone, they can have a more 'trendy' looking one. woot woot! ;]

  • if you want a low end phone, just buy an older phone..:S

  • Why some people are constantly complaining for a budget phone - entry level phone? Not everyone can afford some high end phones like N95, C905, etc.

  • - 3.5mm standard audio jack why on this phone???? useless literally.... Walkman and Cyber-Shot phones need this not this Low-End one. SE ?

  • I'm sorry. What is the point in this phone? Are they actually expecting to sell any!?

  • well u r 99% true why putting a 3.5mm jack on this low end phone instesd that every walkman phine should have it very strange act from SE

  • Want this its All that what a phone user needs rather than Multimedia user

  • Don't expect anything from this phone bec. this phone is a LOW end phone nothing good on it and this phone is built for people who cannot afford phones that are too much...

  • I wonder why sony ericsson puts 3.5 mm jack on low-end phones rather on high-end phones. I know that they have a solution for this: Using bluetooth headsets, But its too expensive and rare in our country. Also, maybe ericsson doesn't want to make 3.5 mm jack on sony ericsson phones, because if that happens mobile users will prefer sony accessories rather than sony ericsson and that wouldn't bring profit for ericsson. What do you think?

  • This is not a quad or triband phone! It is dual? I think even Sagem would be embarrassed for this junk. Great screen :)))) etc.

  • omg 3.5mm headphone jack!! the greatest phone from se

  • hello friends this is a very basic fone with a good phone book memory of 200 .. good battry backup n handy too price - 1700 INR.

  • nice phone suitable for heavy duty workers anti-dust keypad + torch! simple and nice

  • made 2 last not bad 4 10 max

  • best phone ever. better than c905, x1, htc diamond, n96, p1.

  • nice phone & please check price level
