I'm not happy with this Xperia M5. There are times when charging it's very hot have to turn off and then use it's blocking and the camera is not bright. I will never purchase again this Sony mobile it's not a friendly user.

Yup, this phone is a joke. Bad experience of my life. They did claimed their 5x hybrid zoom without losing quality is a joke. I did have this phone and keep constantly shut down (need plug in charger to restart). I sent the phone to service center for 5 times only they agree to replace me a new M5. After that, i switched my phone to Honor 8 and clearly it work much much than Sony.

This phone is actually good..it rarely hangs,and the camera is very good..once you change the battery to a new one it work's flawlessly...yes it tends to get hot especially when you're using it while it's charging..otherwise it's a very good phone with goos features on it..it's just a shame that it hasn't had an update

There are almost 4 years working flawless. It depends what apps you install. Maintaining a good setting it's amazing. Stop all the apps being admin and all apps with usage access, search for apps that consume little cpu and mem. Google is so to blame for its bad performance, stupid upgrades, stupid apps! Move all apps on SD. Its camera is better even than P20 pro. Sony please make it again with the latest x55 and with a bigger battery!

This is the worst phone I have experience my entire life. Imagine going to their service center 8x before the warranty runs off and the problem persists - overheating and blinking the word sony in black background and not opening the OS while it takes a week to for their service center to fix it and the scenario repeats itself. I only found a way by picking the reset button near the memory slot so that it'll turn off and switch again so that it will boot normally (the service center doesn't tell anyone it could be as easy as that). The overheating thing is a serious one, I will not be surprised if this phone and all sony will be banned in critical areas like airplanes in the future... If you are considering this phone, you might be bored the entire life and you need some spicing it up...

I had my M5 for about 1,5 years now, and i just updated to 6.0 marshmallow. 2 days after i updated the software, the front camera won't open and there's a notification says "unknown error". I tried fixed it using factory reset, hard reset, and also sony pc companion but nothing works. I also tried the wipe data and cache from the apps menu for the camera, and nothing happens. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Should i flashed it back to lollipop instead?

Dont like this phone at all. I have only been using this phone for only one and half year. I dont need more than half a year to shout, I want a new phone. But this phone is not cheap. So I must bear with this phone for quite a long time for me. This phone OS is bad, bad, and super bad. Camera very difficult to use. Dust proof? Beautiful photos taken but takes a very long time to process it.The camera blurs when using auto mode. Hugely disappointing mobile phone. I bought this as my first "get away from Apple" phone and although on paper it has very good specs, in reality it is a very slow performance, buggy and frustrating piece of technology. The storage gets almost instantly used by the forever updating software, the battery heats up to some questionable temperatures and after about 3 months the motherboard basically just gives up and function becomes like pulling teeth. My advice would be to just buy a good camera and a basic smartphone.

If you check deep in the specs you will find that its only used in normal water (No pool or sea so probably in your shower :-)) and even though the water still enters in it and Sony will not help at all. I concur with many of the negative comments especially. Battery draining/overheating/ causing phone to crash and only allowing reboot if plugged in to an external charger! LTE... Phone crashes if LTE is used therefore can only use 3G! No support from supplier except to factory reset. Will never consider Sony again..now using Chinese phones without these unadmitted (by Sony) and apparently unsolvable issues!

The M5 is a TERRIBLE phone, please don't bother considering to buy this garbage. 1. It's NOT waterproof. I use it in SHALLOW water for 5 minutes and bubbles started to come in, pretty soon the touchscreen was unresponsive even after I dried it up. Had to replace the whole screen for almost 150 usd. 2. Battery life is very very very terrible. Stamina mode? Don't even bother. 3. Rear camera takes ages to focus on objects less than 10cm away. Even if it does focus, after pressing the camera button it can refocus and outcome is a useless out-of-focus image. 4. Front camera, although 21 MP, has a built-in filter that makes faces look unnaturally glowing in every shot. 5. This phone cannot even record or play Voice Notes in Whatsapp properly. Even after a factory reset. 6. Auto-shutdown issues (seriously this phone has got problems) 7. My front and rear cameras STOPPED working permanently without me even dropping it or anything. It's a software problem which even a factory reset cannot fix. 8. The bluetooth connection is terrible. 9. Sometimes the display hangs and restarting doesn't solve the problem, only after connecting it to a charger will the phone work (EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY IS ALMOST FULL) 10. DUAL? Yeah right. If I put it two SIMs, both networks will fail to get signals. I HAVE TO REMOVE THE SECOND OR FIRST SIM IN ORDER TO GET A WORKING NETWORK SIGNAL. I have always been a loyal user of Sony since its Sony Ericsson days, but after using the M5 I have no trust in Sony anymore. Sony is seriously falling behind in the modern phone race. It tries to market itself as the best in phone cameras but seriously speaking, it's all just history now.

Terrible phone. Shuts down randomly and needs to be plugged into charger to restart even though it's almost fully charged already. On 3rd replacement phone in a few months. Poor GPS accuracy. Nice camera.

I owned Xperia m5 dual for over 1 yr.....main problem is battery. Tried so many options. Almost want to sell it. Finally, I found this....I use battery calibration app. If u charge it the battery percentage stay forr too long or as if not charging....this is calibration problem. The battery sends wrong signal to the phone. What u can do is drain out the battery fully to 0%. Then charge to 100% (dont turn on during charging). After 100% then turn on your phone and use calibration app to calibrate your battery. It shud be OK then. If it happen again repeat the process. When you see your battery % doesn't go up during charging then this is calibration issue. Your battery is charging but the software received signal from battery not charging. Thats why it seems like not charging...hop3 this helps.

Phone has now completely shut down, can't get it to startup at all. This is a known issue for this phone but Sony does nothing about recalling it. Battery lasts up to 3 days with moderate use. 4 days qith stamina mode. Only heats up when using mobile data. If yours heats up too much, you can safely put it in a glass of iced water. Krishna, absolutely you can compare this phone to other phones as almost all smartphones today multithread (DUH!). Look at any other phone with the same chipset and same version of Android (HTC One X9/E9, Meizu MX5, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 to name a few), none of them have this issue.

Probably because you bought the phone in the last six months instead of the first six months after the phone was first released. This is the worst phone I've ever used, let alone Sony Phone (Z3, Z1 before that). Burns through the battery in 5-8 hours, no matter how little you use it. Leave it on overnight and not charging and it will be empty in the morning. I really, really hated this phone, even though it did take great photos and videos. Ended up giving it to my 7 year old son to use and abuse.

Good phone, stunning camera, no competitor in other brand in selfi with this price, Primary camera quality is awesome, best phone in this price. No reboot issue, no heating issue, phone is very fast, rarely get hang. I've been using this phone since 1 year no battery issue. Obviously you cannot compare battery of this phone with basic phone, as they are not multitasked, but these phones are running multiple thread at a time, which eats more battery, you should use phone wisely and restrict number of process running in background, if not no android phone/ multitask phone will give long battery runtime.

I don't know why so many people have issues with this phone. I am using this phone since last 6 months but never faced any major issues. Never faced auto shut-down issue. Heating issue is there but its common in all the waterproof phones. Temperatures upto 55 degrees are completely ok. I suggest you use 'Greenify' to keep you device fast and cool. Both front and back camera is top class. Looks are rich. The only issue I face with this device is that sometimes its camera doesn't autofocus. But it gets fixed if you click a random click.| If you are looking for a small 5 inch screen phone with good features then this a perfect companion for you.

Storage phone to small.always give notification not enough memory space. When update firmware, it spend around +-1gb storage. I dont have any games because using this phone.. Try to move apps to sdcard using default xperia stting.. But just small data moving. Bsic installation remain on inrnal storage phone.. Really dissapointed.

Use a computer to upgrade your phine. When u plug in go to settings > device connection > usb connectivity > nd activate the *install software* tab. Then coonect your phone to the computer and the option to install the Sony Companion app on your computer ,will appear in your notifications, Then a cd drive will appear on your computer nd use that to install the Sony companion app. Open th sony companion app and use it to update your phone nd it should work

I bought mine last December 2015. Brought it to the service center for 3 times already with the same issue (Battery lock). I'm from Davao and they will bring the unit to their head office in Manila hopefully for a permanent solution to the problem. The LTE is the main issue of mine. After I left my phone on LTE mode and the signal lost, the phone automatically shutdown. Lucky if I will be able to turn it on thru charging but the 3 recent incident has fed me up going to the service center for rebooting. If you have a phone like mine you better shift it to 2G to avoid battery shutdown especially if the LTE signal in your community is not that good.

Instead of cribbing on forums fight for your rights, SONY knows first batch has this problems, to those who report these problems batteries are replace with 3 series defect free batteries. Auto shut down occurs when set switches from LTE to 3G or 2G MODE, I have done enough research on this and had gone in to engineering mode of the set and collected logs and did complete troubleshooting, then with evidence wrote to SONY CORPORATION CEO in japan and India and my replacement was approved. SONY policies replaces sets within 7 days for h/w failures without questions

Observed few bugs , After Marshmallow update no option to set separate ringtones for dual SIM can set only one ringtone for both. . Adaptable storage feature unavailable. Well about auto shut down, when I first got it I had this problem and It didn't turn on even except when I put the charger although is was 90% charged so finally I gave it back in 5 days and I waited 48 hours and I came to get a new one. Its good mobile but yes gets hot sometimes during using it and the battery doesn't last more than 3/4 a day in case of using it much.

I bought and used this phone as my daily driver for at least 2 and a half months . I would suggest people to buy phones like Oneplus3 cuz the m5 kinda sucks . The device isn't completely waterproof as my device got water damage (flaps were closed very tightly 100%) , but luckily the people at sony service center is able to help me with my problem . Now the display is not working and I dont know why . I'm disappointed with this phone as it cost me rm1599 and my moto G is performing better than the m5 dude .

There is no "patch" for the auto-shutdown issue. This issue is endemic to phones manufactured before November 2015. The only solution is to change the battery. Certain hardware changes were made in later batches such that heating is reduced, shutdown is eliminated and performance is improved.

Dear Sony, I am an Xperia M5 Dual user for the past two (2) weeks. Let me share you a story. I was not a Sony user previously but since I am looking for a specs with a better photo resolution, I believed Sony got it and that would be the main reason for the major changes of my decision to change to Sony. However, regretfully, after only four (4) days of purhasing Xperia M5 Dual smartphones with a value of RM13++, the first experience I got was its auto-shutdown problems. Thankfully, it is still under warranty so my pity husband went to your Sony Center in Bukit Bintang but had to go back home due to the amount of crowd at your place and patiently, he went back there at 9am on the next day and waited patiently for your center to be opened at 10am. When my husband submitted the phone for repair, it was informed by one of your colleagues that it is normal for Xperia M5 Dual user to experience this kind of problem (???). Without complaining any further, we waited patiently and one (1) week after that, your center contacted us to collect the phone. Once again, my patient husband was the one to collect the item (13/6/2016). I was excited to get back my phone (seeing the amount I have to pay two weeks back, who wouldnt?!) and for once on that night, I am able to browse through apps and all the settings with no auto-shutdown problems. However, once again, regretfully, today (14/6/2016) after sahoor, your product has once again dissapoint me when the screen went blank all of the sudden. I have tried to restart the phone but to no avail. I am sorry but I am too dissapointed with your product and has decided to trade in this phone and went back to the old brand I used to purchase. Thank you for all those gloomy experiences I got with your product. And believe me, since part of your mission is to move me emotionally, trust me, I have been MOVED. Thank you. Got a second one this week, first one had all the problems, the second one is amazing. There is a difference in the build quality as well, the first had a strange square sensor right from the front facing camera, the second one does not. Both are revision 2. The processor is really snappy and the camera is pretty decent. The battery life is good as well. If you buy this make sure it doesnt have a squared light sensor.

This phone has been a pain in the bug. I have a Sony M5 Dual. In South Africa it was first released by Cell C, Vodacom and MTN(not sure if they released it) only came late but released late but not the dual SIM. Firstly when I wanted to log on to internet banking because I receive confirmation notification on my phone, it was giving me errors, When I try to run USSD codes, eg Checking of balance, recharging , or doing banking even running some applications a get an error messages that says “Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped” I tried all what I can to correct the error, clear cache, revert to original settings, un-updated software applications, etc. Everything does not work. But when I even deleted all my data without backup, so that I start afresh, it worked for a day, and the error message appeared again. It took a lot of troubleshooting only to find that when you turn the notifications off it what causes the error. Because working in an open plan area you can’t be having beeps every time the a message enters. I informed sony. After some time new software update was released and the error was solved. Now there is a new error where the phone automatically switch itself off, nothing you do, no matter how much you try to reset or press the power button. Unfortunately the battery is not removable, so it was not an option. So for now if it is off, when I troubleshoot it I found out that if I power it on it (connect it it a charger), it activate the battery and I am able to turn it on. But it is an inconvenience as I have to carry a power bank with me). There other thing because I decided to insert different network simm cards on the phone, when I set it to charge data cost to a specific simm, and it charges on both despite setting it correctly. Still trying to investigate if it is a phone problem or a network related problem. I always have a problem with all Sony phones, told myself that I will never buy a sony problem again after the Satio(U1) flop but came back because I wanted a Dual SIM smart phone. Don’t they test their phone before they release them ?, I am done with Sony phones after my contract expire.

Hi I already use this phone Sony M5 since Sept 2015, actually Sony already announce that if you counter auto shutdown problem just sent it to Sony centre, they will replace the battery cause to auto shutdown. I have sent my Sony M5 three times already and the third time I sent it, the phone has no problem at all until today. It has awesome performance, no lagging even tho many apps running at same time. No more auto shutdown issue. Hoping it will be nice to me till I'm bored with it :)

btw for me Sony Xperia M5 Dual is enough for me. Go ahead to get a high end phone if you are afforable. M5 is a mid range phone but still perform as well. Higher pixel camera (rear and front) on a mid range is quite rare. Mediatek Helio X10 is actually should be enough for yours who want to have a better phone but quite hard to get it. Sorry bro, but I beg to differ. I watched a youtube video and I realised that the response of the Z3 was faster than that of the M5. It should be the other way round, because the Z3 is 2.5Ghz quadcore and the M5 is 1.5Ghz octacore. If the Z3 is better than the M5, then you can imagine what the Z3+ has. I haven't used the Z3+, but after the comparison between the M5 and Z3, I got the Z3.

Irritating! I bought it last November or December 2015 (I guess). On 4 February 2016 it just automatically shutsdown and won't turn On anymore unless connected to a power source. It was over-heating, then I decided to remove the simcard and put it on another phone so I can text and call. Amazingly, M5 is working properly again, I can play games, play music, watch video, etc. Going to bring it to a service center soon and hopefully will be able to use it with a simcard this time. Irritating part... it will take 2 months to have it back according to the lady from the service center.

I have replaced it from service center twice and also replaced motherboard on my third handset. 1st time I replaced it because it was heating too much very quickly also the back cover got opened. I had this problem in first two days of use so I got replacement under DOA. 2nd handset was getting switched off suddenly and was not getting started unless connected to charger. I got it replaced too, Thanks to sony service center. 3rd handset was getting switched off suddenly and was not getting ON again so they replaced the mother board and battery of the phone. now its been working for a month since the replacement and hoping it will work better and longer, but I can not trust this product anymore

They are close to each other but I would say Z3+ if you do not care about dual SIM, because Z3+ is a true Sony product, whereas M5 is an ODM product (designed jointly by Foxconn and Sony). The Z3+ will get faster updates.

Well I also suggest not to buy the product, other unit maybe?? I also experienced auto shut down too before in my brand new phone weeks after I buy my xperia m5 dual, it cant open unless plug the charger on it so I bring it to authorize service centre and they replace it with the new one and with the reaction of the technician , it looks like aim not the first customer complaining with the same product and problem. They just tell me that there is really a BATCH PROBLEM with the same unit deliver in the Philippines.

Wow its been one week with my m5 dual. Just in words "awesome " I'm loven it, otherthan it slight heating issue while playing heavy games... This was a good product for normal user. I love the way Sony camera takes the pictures. About battery., under stamina mode it last for all day long with normal calls, music, videos, camera, and some games.

I have been using this smartphone for quite some time, and I'll tell... I love it! I have loaded it with 110 apps and it does not slow down. It's water and dust proof, which every 'Phone' should be. It does heat up at times, like when you are playing video games with heavy graphics. But that's normal. Every computer will heat up when they get stressed. It has amazing cameras. Selfie lovers would love this phone. 13 MP Front-Facing Camera is way more than enough. And 21.5 MP Main Camera... I don't have to explain. You'll love it. Battery life is not too good. It stands for a day. But in STAMINA mode, it stands longer. I heard about the 'Automatic Shutdown' issue. I didn't experience any such problem. I upgraded it from Android 5.0 Lollipop to Android 5.1 Lollipop, the night I got the phone. So, maybe that problem was fixed even before I noticed it. Or maybe, the phone is stable because I run it in 'STAMINA Mode' most of the time. Some quick tips to improve the phone's performance, (1) Use the phone in 'STAMINA Mode'. This improves Battery life, as well as phone's performance. (2) Install an Anti-Virus Program. The phone already comes preloaded with 'AVG Protection Pro (Trial)'. I am from Malaysia, I bought a M5 Dual from Sony Retail Shop last week. I went back home to get my M5 charge for 5hrs as the sale promoter instruction. I notice the phone are hot as iron during charging. True enough when i unplugged the charger and on my screen. The phone LCD appear black and white lining. Can't see any display on phone anymore. I went back and show my phone to them. They change for me another new set. This new set appear fine after charging, but soon after few hours, it auto shut down. Is been a month for M5, no auto shutdown, charging time 4 to 5 hours, rear camera very good quality but front camera focusing not good enough, 100 pictures with few video recording took about 40 to 50% battery, accessing internet very damn weak when using dual sim card same time, have to off 1 sim then the traffic smooth for accessing, Wifi good & no problem, battery not good for gaming, wechat ...exhaust fast, before install apps or games, the battery(24 hrs ON) can stand for a week just use for calling but after install some games & apps only work for 2 to 3 days, I guess M5 only suit for normal use not for variety use. Good luck for those who like to buy M5 in future. As i know, Sony will have new model call Xperia Performance. Can consider this new model.

This is by far the worst phone made by Sony. The problem appears to be a micro circuit and it is a manufacturing defect. Sony should be replacing all these phones as they all have the same problems. 1. Auto shut down issue. Usually related to going from 4g to 3g or the other way. Need to plug into charger to wake the phone. 2. Slow charging times. Put the phone in airplane mode and like magic the phone quickly charges. 3. Short battery life. Seems to be related to the 4g radio. You might try changing the network settings so it does not use 4g. Not a solution if you need 4g obviously. But I found that all the problems with auto shutdown and battery charging times and life went away after I did that. Still this is unacceptable and I took my phone to the Sony shop for replacement. I will post a full report here once I get the phone back. So far it has not been a positive experience - Sony Philippines take note!

It's such a bad experience for this model seems I get this phone on Last October. I faced auto Shut down problem and its Really irritating. I found that the problem only will happen when your LTE line switch to H+. Especially when the signal unstale. I did Complain and Sony was agree to replace me a new phone but the problem still the same. I only suggest Z series instead of M series.

Hi Guys, i was using a Zultra before and just brought an M5 a few days back. my purpose of buying it was especially for the camera. it has been working fine other than one problem. It takes hell lot of time to charge i guess around 4 to 5 hours to charge completely, this is ridiculous considering its only a 2600Mh battery. I can say that this phone is the best phone you could get in the middle range competition, most specs are topnotch or comparable to a flagship device. The only problem is if you receive a unit which is shutting down in certain areas which has a low lte or 3g signal. It wont restart unless you connect it with a charger or powerbank. The reason is that these units have version 1 battery which is causing the shutting down of the phone. This is a known issue with m5 units. I have 2 solutions for you, firstly replace it with a unit which has a green circular sticker on the box that is stating that the unit has an updated battery(version 3), and lastly go to sony centre and have your battery replaced for free. It's a known issue and they will replace it within an hour. If you don't use mobile data you simply use 2g network so it will not shutdown.. I hope this can help m5 users like me.

Bought this phone 27th September 2015. Was really happy with it's specs however withing 10 days the phone got dead. On 14th October, I got a replacement phone after making a complaint but again after couple of months the phone started giving the mentioned problems: 1. Microphone does not work when it's on speaker mode. 2. Stop reading the SD card 3. Hangs 4. Heating problems 5. The major problem that I started facing with this phone is auto switch off. It get's switched off on it's own and you cannot switch it no unless the charger is plugged in even if the battery is more that 80% charged. The phone is sitting with the service center and they are claiming to resolve the issue soon.

Just kidding .I didn't solved it,but i found a way to overcome the auto shutdown.just active your airplane mode when ever you move aroun,and only deactivate your AP mode when you use the phone.autoSD is caused by the changing of network,so just remove the network from the equation.but still,battery drain is the biggest issue.

I bought my M5 around mid-December last year and all was well until beginning of Feb month when it just go out for no particular reason and all buttons disabled( see ree123 comment) and only the charger can get it back to life. The problem is that it can go for a while without this problem but then out of the blue it hits, i've deleted some applications that were not working anymore or less used but it still does the same thing. I'm very reluctant to take it in for repairs because of the length their service tend to take. Anybody got this right?

being toally honest; everytime I have merged the phone in water or put it in runing watter in the sink, it gets all wrong... the sound collpses, the screen auto stimulets everywhere and apps might be open and even can make calls by itself... the headphone entrance also fails for a while. Later when dry it works again ok, but I really put mysel fto think if I really want to expose my phone to such a threat to its integrity just... because? I think, having that capability at the ends its good for spills and even for droping it to the pool by accident or to the toilet in the worst case scenario; but defiently not for fun and going to swim and take photos and stuff

I do not experience heating problem, even though I shot a lot. Even when playing aggresive 3D games for CPU like Implosion, my M5 dual never gets too hot - at least it's always cooler than my old Galaxy S2. :D The only problem I could detect is that the space between the display and the bezels (the black blank zone) is not the same as each other; the display is off-set by about 0.1-0.2mm.

I believe that unit is from the first batch release of Sony xperia m5. I am still waiting for the new replacement sony centre promised me after giving back them the defective unit. Sigh! Biggest mistake that I ever made while buying M5 Dual. Hell lot of problems from day 1. Within 1st 10 days I had to get the handset replaced as the initial one got dead. Had to write an email to the MD to get it done. Now even the second one is giving lots of problems: 1. Stops reading the external SD Card. 2. Apps stop working on it's on or starts working even if you don't touch anything. 3. Auto shuts down every now and then, and then you would have to plug in the charger to switch it on. 4. Second microphone does not work - Means when put the phone on speaker mode the person on the other end cannot hear you. 5. Battery back-up extremely poor. 6. Over heating. 7. Camera stops working at times. 8. Hangs - then nothing works. it's a nightmare...going to take this phone once again to the service centre and let's see what happens this time. I wish it they can take this phone back and give a better model .

I got the phone recently and they confirmed that it is from the second batch, and so far no problems to report with regards to the sudden shutdown or slow camera or anything. Everything works fine, I just find the screen a bit small as I moved from a 6.8" phablet to a 5.0" phone.

i just google "Xperia M5" and came across wikipedia and a sony site that said only the first batch were experiencing the problem, but still for confirmation i went to sony service centre to repair my ps3 and asked them about that and they confirm that only first batch have those problem but they solve it when the second batch came out. still i never meet the person who had second batch Xperia M5. Hopefully the news is true.

it has been confirmed that sony admits the M5 series really have autoshutdown and waterproof problem but that only for the first batch of the phone, the second batch solved the problem and i heard it is out in 1st february those who experiencing the problems could ask for replacement tho, im getting this model by the end of february hahaha

I don't understand how a company like Sony can manufacture and market such a horrible phone. I purchased a phone in Nov 2015. Within two days, I realised that the phone switches off on its own. Oh no.... avoid this phone! ITS NOT WATERPROOF! Mine failed within a month without putting near water, it must have been condensation inside and died! Retailer (eGlobal of Hong Kong) will not honour warranty due to "Water Damage". It also gets as hot as hell and shuts down by itself and can't be restarted unless plugged in to electricity supply! I suspect its the MTK Helio X10 processor. So $500 wasted! Will never buy anything with MTK processor again. I replaced the Sony with Oppo R7 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor... brilliant phone, and works like a dream!

No, it did not. After the 5.1 update I can say: - literally fked up my signaling. After 5.1 upgrade instead of 4 or 5 bars (max) it shows 1 or 2 bars of signal strength in the middle of the city (Cph, Denmark), but more likely no signal - Battery still goes down pretty fast after 15 %

Had the phone since Sept 2015...6 months...shut down issues were a put off but switching to GSM when on data and use of WiFI mostly and you will survive. Build quality is good and has an awesome camera. Satisfied to say the least. Phone should last until the need for an upgrade

turning your network from lte/wcdma to GSM will not solve this problem, the solution is temporary, based on my experience. I suggest to go to your nearest authorized Sony center to give u a technical report for replacement of other unit or brand, not to m5.

I bought this one as it released because i see that its specifications are much higher than as it expected for its price.. After I bought one with official warranty, it's really working ok the whole day. However, the next day when i wanted to change the back cover, i saw that the back lit was slightly opened, so i quickly went to service center and they made me a replacement. Now I am using another M5 dual. There are some problems with using this one. The most annoying problem is glove touch error due to software conflicts.. When i turned on the glove touch mode, sometimes there are auto touches happened to some areas of the screen which is absolutely annoying. Another problem is speaker & microphone error as it is not working after i used many software at the same time.Therefore, i made updates from google play store & turned off that glove touch. Now, it's working quite fine.. I like its performance, resolution, selfie camera so much that's why i am with patient in using this one. By all means, it really worth for its price... :-) :-)

made the mistake of buying 2 Xperia M5's last december. Didn't last more than a week before the issues of units turning off and not able to run again without being connected to a charger. Service for the unit takes 2 weeks. Plus you have to bring it to the main service center. Not just any service center nearby.

I had purchased this mobile M5 on 9 Jan 2016 vide Invoice No. SLF02A011020102719 from Croma store Pune, Aundh., after using Sony mobile M5 very happily for Two years. I think I made a mistake doing this. This mobile has major issues: 1. The battery life is being claimed to be 2 days by you. The M@ dual used to give me around 30 hours after a full charge. This one gives just about 9 or 10 Hours….. ??? 2. The mobile goes of for no reason unexpectedly anytime of the day or night, even when the battery has enough charge. Then the switch on button does not work. One has to connect the mobile to a charger or to a PC to switch on the mobile. This has happened around 10 + times in the last 13 days. 3. The mobile goes to one way communication, suddenly. The party cannot hear me and I can hear the party, irrespective of whether it is an incoming call or an outgoing call. And it remains this way until and unless the mobile is restarted. Real top irritant 4. One App downloaded from Playstore, Paid app, used to work well on M2. but on this it repeatedly hangs. I had sent error reports on this may times. but it continues. Is it possible for me to return this mobile? I had an option of buying Apple and I did not, due to the good experience I had with Sony M2.

The first time my xperia M5 was sent at the service centre in Ipoh and usually they will collect and sent to KL to be repair there. But this time they sent to service centre in Ipoh which is new and maybe not even sony's official service centre since they also repairs for other phone brand. After the problems have been stated to them they said they will change the motherboard and the screen but I read on the xda forum the official sony service release a note to replace the battery from v2 to v3 version for the auto shutdown problem. After 1 week the phone was received back from the center and when we got home the back glass of the phone popped out it was not securely put together. A few days later we sent the phone back to the service centre and got it back. The phone autoshutdown happens more frequently, the phone is running hot, the camera very hard to focus and the quality is worsten, the glass back of the phone popped out again, the power and volume keys are very hard to press, the upper parts of the screen still have light bleedings. Sony service centre dont know how to repair phone properly, if the glass back of the phones popped out how about the water resistant capabilities? They also do not know how to solve the auto shutdown problem. SONY YOU SHOULD GIVE REFUND AND STOP SELLING THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE IF YOU DONT WANT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS.

Don't every buy this phone, it is defective, despite many replacements. If you already have one and you experience the camera problem and the auto shutdown problem, better ask for a full refund or take your case to court. I bought two units in October last year and both are defective! Each unit has been replaced at least five times now but still the same problem. The only prb i face is that 4-5 times hang of camera app. I hope sony will surely fix that on upcoming 6. Other complaining about auto shut down..... Plz keep ur mobile network setting to gsm, it will solve ur prb.

This phone is equivalent to a 5000 rupee phone(price of this phone is 35,000). I found nothing good in it except the camera.It hangs a lot. Processor is also not good. It does not have gorilla glass even. The mobile claims to have a scratch resistant glass, but you would observe 2-3 scratches after just one falling of the mobile to the floor. I request Sony to deliver such products which match their prestige.

Guys,coming from a former m5 user who encounter prob with the sd card,i suggest if u still wanna use sony then go for z3,or z5 if ur budget allows it,altho i dont use sony anymore but I still believe in the brand,now im using samsung a8,i can tell you altho the a8 is suppose to be a lower mid range vs the m5 but daily usage has been much better than the m5,and the a8 camera thrashes the m5 in terms of focus n speed in capturing,and stability in reading the sd card.currently the a8 is the best midrange samsung has,and just a tad more expensive than m5.

Yes, big problems with this M5, First it shuts down when signal is weak and will not restart until plugged in to power. Gets very hot in use. Crashes when playing busy games. Then eventually died completely within one month. I believe the problem is the MTK processor. If Sony replace the MTK processor with 810 Qualcomm Snapdragon this will be a really great phone. I sent phone back to retailer in Hong Kong, waiting for replacement...... I hope, or maybe exchange for Samsung Galaxy S5, more reliable for use in Australia. I got the M5 because specifications attracted me, but now I believe reliability is better.

Please don't buy the Xperia m5 it's a very faulty phone. Msee y screen first got a screen bleeding and a white spot. After 2 month it got 3 reasonably red spot at the screen. The phone runs hot and the camera software have a lot of problems such as camera not available, cannot record video and the 4k video only records green pixelation all over the screen. ive got sony m5 dual on december 5, 2015. so far, i've never encountered any problems as other mentioned in their comments. flawlessly switching of lte network via dual lte sim, no auto shutdown, lagless, camera were great, 4K working as expected, and other stuff work without any issues.

Expensive rubbish. normal performance lasted 2 weeks then the problems started. Most troublesome is the phone shutting down when I travel outside city/suburban signal range and I can't restart the phone until I plug it into a power point, even though the battery is fully charged. Because its a dual sim version not retailed in Australia by Sony, I can't get any help from them . It does get really hot in usage. Games apps crash, and lots of little irritations making the phone one that I feel like throwing into the rubbish bin. Hong Kong supplier will not exchange for a replacement, they want to repair it! So another $25 to post it back and be without a phone for goodness knows how long!!! I think I'll avoid any phones with MTK processors in future.

November 30, 2015 i returned it Reasons: Switching mobile Gsm to Lte shutdown They replace it after 5 days they said its now the second batch. Now im using this phone after i used its flashlight, about 30mins Of usage basically the phone will standby while using it and ofcourse the phone will get hot also just a bit. Now when you press the power button it wont turn on. You have to force shutdown and restart again. You cannot turn off the flashlight coz you cant open your phone. I have just received my xperia m5, everything is smooth and brilliant. Performance never lags and the phone never gets too hot to physically hold. Battery life is average and the screen is rich. The design this crisp and thin and despite having a glass back it never slips out of my hand. I am very impressed with it and i would recommend it over most phones. The one issue i have is with the main camera, before you take the picture the image is crisp but once you click the camera button the app tends to get the auto-focus wrong and pictures are blurry and need to be taken again but that's just a software issue. I cannot understand all the complaints i have seen here its probably samsung or apple fans trolling. But yea AMAZING PHONE and i absolutely adore it. Much better than the A5, J5 or Huwawei P8 light. From South Africa.

I went to Sony Center at KLCC, Malaysia today (4/12/2015). I asked directly one of the sales assistants about the auto shutdown problem that this model has. He said that problem is only affecting the first batch. When I asked him how many people actually came and complained about the problem, he actually laughed and frankly commented that he knows that their service center is having a hard time handling the complaining customers. I expressed my interest but I was worried that the stock that they now have is the old one. He assured me after much complaints, they have replaced the first batch with the latest, and so far, according to him, there are no more customers complaining about the auto shutdown problem. He also said that the problem has something to do with the phone's software. I'm tempted to buy at that time, but I had to hold myself back until I'm really sure that the problem has been solved. So this is what I've experienced at Sony Center KLCC today. I'm yet to buy it, because I'm still waiting for user reviews here who actually bought the same phone in the last two weeks from the same center. This is because, according to him, the newest batch of Sony M5 Dual is pretty recent (arrived around 2 weeks ago).

I purchased this phone from Expansys, and in the month I've had it, I've had to repair it using the PC companion program on my PC no less than twice a week. It dies when I make calls, or receive them. Switching it over to GSM makes no difference. I'll be sending the phone back for repair as soon as I can. I really hope the vendor will just give me my money back. But I doubt it.

I also had shutdown issues with the phone but then I followed advice that I had seen on this blog and changed network settings from LTE to GSM only for both sims and no shutdown since then. Besides the shutdown issue this is an awesome phone five stars for the camera.

I only have one sim-card in the phone and the setting is GSM but the phone still shuts down. I got the phone last week Thursday, it fell Sunday morning and then it started shutting down on Monday morning. I initially thought it could've been due to the fall but after reading comments on this site it seems that's not the case. Now I'm worried they may not take the handset back because it has little chip on the side due to the fall.

I sent in my M5 to Sony Service Center and it took about a month to change the main board plus some other stuffs. It feels like new phone when they returned it. Most importantly, it resolved the serious shutdown, reboot, hang, system bricked and overheat that i faced when i bought it in around Sept. I've been using it almost a week now and it works perfectly without a hang or reboot. I'm not a gamer for mobile phone, however, i did try install a game called "Sky Force 2014", while playing the game, the phone got very hot, but it would still running smoothly, but i guess the other phone will experience the same too. In general, using any apps like Facebook, Evernote and etc, the heat is minimal for me. Overall, the issues got fixed and until now, i'm still happy with it even though i was very angry in the first month when i bought it. I'm from Penang Malaysia.

Overheating is a common issue on Xperia devices. Bcz as we all the water resistance technology can't allow air inside the device so basically it's getting heat. But I think it's won't be not that much. Hope firmware update will reduce the overheating problem.

Using this phone for 2 weeks now. Never experience any overheat, sudden shutdown or whatever defect they state before. Battery life is ok for me. First day im using it, it drain faster but after a while, battery life is great. It is normal for android phone since it take time for the software itself to stabilize. I managed to get 1 day and half (including sleep time which is I never touch my phone for 6 hours). For your information I never play game, just constant use apps and internet since I communicate a lot using whatsapp apps, a lot of fb, twitter and instagram which is great for me considering it only contain 2600 mah.

take out the sticker inside the simcard tray and read the numbers it should be like 3415 which means your phone is manufactured in 34th week of 2015 if it is after week 40, it should be 2nd batch that's what I know so far

i'm a student from malaysia. i already use it for 2 days and i've experience that this this phone warm a bit. about the camera, you should not worry the camera is superb. but there are some camera apps will be error to open . but if you like taking picture . so yes it is worth it with the 4k video and the 21.5mp. although the phone is water resistant i suggest you to not put it in water or rain.

I sent my phone to service centre and luckily get to claim a new one from directd. Then now im using note 4 . Happy with it. And in malaysia you can find high end phone that has same price like m5 dual such as z3 or z1 compact or even z2. I dont about the overheating issue... But please dont use it underwater for first batch before week 40.. I got this phone a month ago and after 2 day without issue i use it underwater. For the first 10 minute the phone just working normal, i take underwater photo and video and then the nightmare suddenly happen. My so 'waterproof' m5 dual goes half green and blurrinh then auto shutdown itself. And it never wake again &#128546;&#128546;. I send it to the sony center and after a month of torture without phone i finally got my phone back and sony eventually change it to the new phone with 4215 second batch and new motherboard. I use it for three week it just work normally but suddenly after i use 4g simcard the trouble comeback. The overheating issue and not only google chrome but every browser that ever existed cannot work properly. But for camera thumbs up its a great camera all working normal. 4k video such a beautiful video. And i forgot to tell that before my old phone broke the camera not functioning properly and some camera app cant even started.

Looks like i'm not the only one having shutdown issues. Bought mine from Hongkong. Was only using it for 3 days when suddenly it died. Had to use a charger to start it up. Batt's not even empty yet. This happened to me almost everyday till this weekend. Following the advise of a friend I simply removed the sims, turned the phone on and let it sit for an hour, then turned it off and put back both sim cards. Now it's been 2 days and no shutdown yet. Will still monitor for changes. Just one question, has anyone tried using a ps3 controller for this? There's no option to connect a ps3 controller in settings, unlike my old phone m2 aqua.

Tried to restart it and it goes all right but when I tested it several times, it happened again... and again and there's a time when the rear camera also blinks. Buying this was a big mistake. I thought by the name Sony their product are good, but this phone is just a waste of money. People from sony's service center asked me to submit my piece, as they have to send it to their repairing center, which would take at least a week. My friend please don't buy this phone it's the worst phone one could. I am telling you this out of my personal experience the below is the list of troubles I faced with the phone 1. It only have a 2600 mah battery which discharges very quickly (sony is taking Rs 34000/- for a 2600mah battery) 2.It takes lot of time for the charge the battery 3.Phone hangs a lot and Restart automatically (May be sony should stop making mobile phones because they have no clue what they are doing) 4. Other phone with lot better features and performance are available at a lot cheaper price 5. After 2 days of purchase of this M5 phone I had to take this phone to service center(restarting issues) where they kept the phone with them self and they didn't even provided an alternative mobile for the time being the phone in repairs. 6. The phone doesn't look like a Rs 34000/- phone it looks like Rs 15000/- phone 7. The screen is not amoled screen at this price 8. The 3GB ram of phone preforms like a phone with out any ram 9. I felt like i got trapped in this phone 10. Sometimes touchpad key sounds doesn't work you have restart the phone for the button sounds 11. Becasue of the sealed battery if the phone hangs you have to wait till the time the phone doesn't run out of battery in order to restart it. 12. After all this shitty experience I have no other alternate except to sell the phone which I did I sold this idiotic phone for Rs 20200/- with in 15 days of purchase I incurred the loss of of Rs 14000/- I am so very disappointed with and I suggest you don't even look at sony whilst purchasing the phone. Because sony don't know how to make phone. You have great options like Samsung A8/ note 4 / 5 or apple phone which are way far better then this sony shit Rest I leave on you

I just bought M5 Dual. First 5 hours, it worked properly. But after some time when I use power button to lock screen, unfortunately screen turned black after 5 mins it started working again. Then I plug it in to it's charge and didnt use it for around 6 hrs. Then when I tried to unlock screen with the help of power button. It started not to work. I reboot it, I even push the yellow button on the right side of the micro sd card input but not working. I tried but it doesnt help. For no reason it turned black as if the screen not working, but interestingly the sound or the notifications of apps are coming(sounds). I dont know why.IS there anyone who knows the reason why?

Got the phone 3 weeks ago. For the first 2 weeks I used the phone on Wi-Fi only since it needs a nano sim and I cud not find time to get 1 (No Issues). Over the last 5 days ever since I have INSERTED the SIM the phone simply "DIES" Yes it just "DIES". It refuses to switch on, no matter how much u try. The only way it boots up is if u connect it to a charger and even if the battery is 99% full it just "DIES" on u. I bought Xperia M5 dual, exactly 1 month Nov. 7, 2015 for the first two weeks I have noticed that it will shutdown at no reason and it is very hard to boot again. It is very hazzle that you need to connect it with a charger just to boot up again, even the the battery indicates that is 80% or 90% full. I went back to the store where I bought it and it seems that they are expecting me and they politely ask me to return all the accessories including the box, which made me believed that there's something defective in this model. I do hope a positive result will be made in less than a month.

I bought it in early oct,ori sony waranty from a phone shop in k.dmnsara,my assumption of the shutdown issue is that sony is not familiar n still hving prob to optimise the helio chipset n thus the system may be running on the higher side of temp that triggers the shutdown,in stamina mode i ticked the extended usage n a few more to reduce performnce,n so far extensive usage of ggle maps make the phone heaty but never lead to a shutdown.

Yeah they are not gonna give other model changing and they also do not refund. Once we has buy it, we has to stick it. Hope they can fix it.

My phone still in Sony Service Center . 1 month already and no info at this moment. Last info they are waiting for parts coming to Malaysia in November shipment, then they will install and test it. Now i just wait.

I just received my new M5. There is an elongated dual sim card holder, It has two spaces for each of your two sim cards. Alongside the sim card slot is the SD card holder. So yes you get dual sim card facility PLUS SD card. I bought an OPPO R7 last month on the understanding that it had the same set up, but unfortunately it did not. There were two spaces in the sim card holder, which was for either two sim cards or one sim card and one SD card. So really the Oppo is only a single sim card phone when used with a SD card, which is necessary because the Oppo "Color" operating system which runs over the android OS uses half of the available 16GB memory. So if you need two sims + SD card, then the M5 is the device for you.

to me, you will make the greatest mistake of your life wasting your money on this crap. just have a look at all these negative comments and negative experiences and go for another phone. if you want to stick to Sony, people are happy with C5 which is slighly cheaper and larger
