This is one the greatest phones ever. I miss it. It had a stylus, numeric keypad and a QWERTY keyboard, FM Radio, scroll wheel,.... If Sony brought out an Android version. I would buy one tomorrow! I miss being able to answer the phone with a 'call answer button'

I bought this wonderful in 2006 and believe me guys until now it's working perfectly and looks real brand new. Not even a little scratch has it for almost 11 yrs. From time to time, i played music, click the camera, use the keyboard, touch the screen to warm up all its functionality. Of course I'm no longer using it but still loving it so much. my p990i retired 2012 and it was a good long run.. one of the best phone with a max memory of 8GB only since system will malfunction if you tried to get a higher memory but it was a great experience. from camera to battery life to performance .. the best of sony ericsson. I hope they release a similar tech of touch and type.

Sorry for your loss. Proud to say I still have mine. Bought in 2007, have only upgraded to 4gb memory card and replaced the battery in 2011. I do get the occasional funny looks when I'm seen with the 'brick' as the current trend is having big screen and thin phones. Recently getting more 'memory corrupted' messages, so I'm thinking of retiring it when I get my iPhone 6 Plus. Too bad Sony stopped at P1 and is not coming out with this range anymore. Their Xperias just don't seem too attractive.

ask them to reformat your phone and it will remove all the info in your phone like saved contacts back up message bank. internet cache and hopefully all the viruses as well.. but at least its worth a shot in getting your phone up and running again ... if they cant fix it as long as you can connect your phone to your computer you can do it yourself...

remove the back cover there's 2 screw to remove the keypad and four screw to remove the back cover.. then there are additional crew inside to remove the board from the front covering the trickiset is the screw near the copper cap that is your antenna coz it falls off easily.. then now you can remove all the case.. if your case is still ok i advise you to just hit it with pylox paint or any spray paint or if you know any airbrush artist you can personalize this phone

I've never been able to watch online video (youtube etc) over wifi. Works OK over GPRS. When playing over wifi the video player reaches 100% quickly and freezes. This doesn't happen when using GPRS. Any thoughts? I have a w705 and it works alright.

I have had my SE P990i since it was born back to 2006. I am still using it every day for almost everything such as browsing online, dealing my daily schedules and anything you can imagine. Though the main problem is RAM, my using Swiss Manager Pro did solve the problem. However, if you are still using it I suggest you to buy Swiss Manager Elite. I believe that I can still use my P990i for years. If you have any problem with it feel free to let me know. I will provide you some ways or information for solving your problems.

@odehandrew: your phone has software issue. you'll have to bring it to a repair shop for sony. I've had the same issue and in most case, it would have high chance of having that same problem in the future even after you have it repaired.

Great phone (in 2012) with many functions, like Wi-fi, 3g and 2mpix camera which actually takes pretty decent photos! Nice shape on the body, little bulky though. The touch screen is responsive and it has a pretty good resolution on it. I love the flip keyboard which is one of the main reasons i bought this phone for 17 dollars!

The best/latest sony ericsson equivalent is xperia but not as good in most respects. I will replace with a different manufacturer. I think the P series should be continued

The device is more than perfect...I'm using p990i 3 years already. It's a perfect multi-tasking device. The only problem is concerning the OS, not the device, as Symbian...you know. Anyway there are some tricks you can replace the OS with Ubuntu (Linux). Perfect coverage, perfect working applications, acceptable multi tasking :)

I am using my P990i since it was release on the market in 2006. Believe me guys, it is still look brand-new and it is just like out-of-the-box and no scratch all over its body & screen. I used/sold/replaced so many phones already since 2006 but I want to keep my P990i until its life as until now it works like brand-new. I am also using Xperia Arc (replacing my Xperia X10) and an iPhone. Because of my love to my P990i, I never use it as my main phone (Arc is my main phose) and I use my P990i for my private number. Yes, P990i is thick compare to new phones now but I love the design, quality, reliability and its functionality.

3 ways for you to do it... one - you can download using your defalut browser using wifi connection no problem anything can be downloaded using wifi.. sis.jar.wav.3gp.mp4.jpeg two - unlock your phone internally i mean, there is one time my p990 was attached to a pc by my good friend and he cracked the :/z drive which consist of the certificates of the phone and even the phone OS if you want to change it to there is a list there that you just need to untick few boxes and add a folder under the :/z drive to give your p990 the full capability to download even sis file and in this case you now need a file explorer program on your applications to control the files from :/c drive to :/d drive last is change your internet application program coz the p990 is using default browser operamini 3.2 which you can use for wifi or 3G internet right .. use a bolt browser application 11.2v it downloads sis file and even run a flash program

Dropped this fone like 983294294 times and it still works! lol. I removed the other keypad. I find it useless. Camera is great. Surfing is great. and even though this phone is more than 3years old in my careless hands, the touch screen feature is still great. Really great. I love the scroll it has on the side. It helps me scan through messages and mp3 files much quicker. I guess the biggest down factor for this is its bulky size. I don't know(care) about the games but there are numerous themes you can install. My inbox, outbox, sentbox and draftbox totaled to around 3,000 messages before I noticed that my phone has gotten slower. I love the fact that this phone has qwerty AND touchscreen function. That's probably the only reason why I'm still holding on to it even though its housing has a chips and cracks from dropping it. Believe me when I say that this phone is one of the most durable out there.

My wife and I are both P990i users...the only thing ive noticed is that my camera has a much better resolution than the other one,first thing I did was clean the lense but there's no improvement...ive checked out the settings,set it the same way as the other one but pictures does not come out as sharp as the other one produces...just dont know if theres a way of improving the resolution of its camera...I appreciate immediate response...thanks

Oh god i so love this phone and i own 2 unit of it. Guaranteed very very good phone. When i had my p990i unit 1 it fell of from a 5 foot locker 8 times, i even broke it when i threw it on the wall, well the touch screen was already broken. i stocked it for a year coz i don't want to lose the phone. then i bought p99i unit 2, got the battery from unit 2 then used it to the unit 1 and guess what, after a year of not using the unit 1 because of the defective touch screen was like brand new! YES GUYS AFTER ONE YEAR OF NOT USING P990I UNIT 1 THE TOUCH SCREEN WORKED AGAIN! HOW COOL IS THAT! no cellphone can ever replace this one hell of a phone. two-thumbs up for Sony Ericson!!

dev im used an andriod and the only advantage of it is the display and the widget but performance wise not really impress.. coz the power of the phone also depend on the the processor and the CPU not onyl the OS and android not really that good in relation of upgrading and finding compatible program and you cant mode the c:/ and z:/ drive of an andrion unless you use a pc but symbian os you can download a program and do everything from putting a file on zip .. unzip .. renaming files from .jar to .rar to other names and more hahahah beat that android fans hahahaha

Hell yeah! I have my P990i since 2007 and I love it. The only problem I have is the battery, it's old and it drains fast. Other than that, it never gave me problems. I just got a brand new HTC Desire, and the first unit I got was unusable coz it overheats. Had it replaced with a new one, and now i just noticed it has dead pixels on the screen. STUPID PHONE. I guess they don't make phones the way they used to.

sk try to clean the contact point under the mobile phone because due to oxidation the contact point is not functioning well .. advice use a pin tu scratch the contact point and do the same deal with the contact point of your charger as well this will help.. do the same thing with the contact point inside,, the contact point of the battery and the phone itself.. hope i this help.. by the way once it is scratched it should be shinny hahahaha and then try to charge your phone again

you cant play 2 seperate java application on this phone ebuddy is a java apps and the main internet of this phone is also java (operamini 2.0v) so i suggest upgrade your ebuddy to 3.0 or get a bolt browser 3.01v this will at least give you more power on the net using your mobile (chat, email, youtube, live streaming and downloading feature all in this bolt browser.. im using UCWeb , Bolt, opera mini 4.2 operamini 5.121 operamini 5.122, and opera 10.1 and ebuddy 3.0 (mobile net addict hahahah)

now, it's about 5 years that I'm using my p990, more than 700 hours call time, working as a netbook! (checking mails, using the pdf reader, word, excels,...) and many many times dropped, and it works as well as the first day! I love it, and never will change it, till it's working for me! :D

rob if the phone is opening the messages and other applications automatically check the jog dial at the side if its too sensitive thats one, two check the other botton at the side with an @ sign that is the one touch email that goes to your web or messages directly you can turn it off ... for battery savings mode just adjust the backlight to 30% thats a big help, always disable the wifi that searches wifi every 30sec that is also a big no no.. and if you are not going to use the 3G of your mobiel like for video calling or web might as well just switch to 2G heheheh that also helps battery life

rob to upgrade your p990 to a gdesk you need the phone to bew attach to a p.c. coz you will incorporate the Gdesk to the main drive of the mobile and if you will still have security issue you need to download cap switch and another application to unlock the security of the mobiel and you can watch a step by step guide on you tube as well just search gdesk or p990 to gdesk.. the cap switch is to turn off the phone's minor security like cache, message backup system, draft backup system and other files back up now the second application will let you surf around the phones DOS/ OS i know this is still incomplete but i hope this help you

fun trick to do with your p990 go to camera and turn on your flash this will create a flash if taking pictures right... so heres the fun part, after switching on the flash 1) press the capture button halfway (the one at the right side) that will turn on the flash 2) scroll the jogdial and that will switch your phone from camera mode to video mode then release the button that you are pressing halfway this will permanently activate the flash so if you want to take video in dark places this will be big help hahahahah to deactive it same proceedure have fun

natz the phone doesnt download sis and rar fiole you need to have it zip and then download it .. now also make sure you have a "fileexlorer" program for you to unzip the file you downloaded and if the file is really on a sis or rar file i suggest upgrade your program have the sis security deactivated i had mine deactivated by a fried who is a programer we got the file from the symbianize.com and as far as i can remember there is also the same program on mobile24.com hope you have time to research ...

@Lucky, you need to backup your mobile content, then system-reset the phone as it came from the shop, then restore the backup & you're good to go. Hope that helps.

Lucky please search using a computer disk cleaner and cap switch application as far as i can remember it was in the getjar.com or mobile24.com just google it once you install this 2 programs go to the capswitch and there is an option there "capswitch off" click that and then go to the disk cleaner and dropdown option will tell you clean c:/ or clean phone memory.. this will clean the undetected file on your phone even if it shows you have space in your memory card and phone memory the problem of the p990 is it keeps a record of everything so the disk cleaning will remove that backup files so i hope i help you out

ejeigh your phone needs to be rebooted or reformat to be fix that issue because the phone is using the power like searching for signal although it not needed and like looking for wifi without activating and searching 3g coverage even if you are just in a GSM area.. this really drain your battery easily

Ejeigh, always check your phone network mode Sony Ericsson's phone consume more when searching for network, so when in area where there is no 3G just switch to gsm mode.

well maxwell i tried all that. wat happen was that the bottom flip section broke off. but the phone was working perfectly well for a while after that. Also it doesnt have a memory card so the phone keep asking to delete files. i will eventually have to carry it to a technician. but from wat i tell you, do you THINK the phone is no longer any good...or it can be repaired?

tina try using your stylus on the screen if the same issue persist try to find a SE shop or if you know a technician consult him and possible your sceen is damage.. second is check the time and the setup > set it up on 12 hours and change the time and this time you can change the AM to PM and that should resolve the issue.. hope i helped

Hi DK. Back then, when I was still using this phone, I have experienced the same thing. What I did was to have it fixed by a subject matter expert (a technician). Upon my observation, they just updated the phone again; only with a little difference--they updated it while it was connected to a power supply, which, conversely, was connected to a computer. The rationale, I suppose, is that when S.E. phones are being updated, they consume a high amount of energy from the battery. Therefore, it is never advisable to do the update process using only the battery as your power source(unless you have a very good battery life--which is actually very rare nowadays). The only solution I could suggest now is either one of the following: (1) Bring your P990i to a technician (subject matter expert) and defray for the fee that they'll be charging you (only about 500 pesos if you live in the Philippines), or (2) Update it by yourself. However, you must purchase the necessary tools. The first option is cheaper, I suppose. Good luck! Happy with my S.E. P1i right now.

im back!!! lovely, there are 4 screw after you remove the battery the 2 screw at the bottom are long they hold the flip and the front case the next 2 srew holds the back case to the monther board.. pop the bottom first dont be affraid to braek it ok now dont forget that the camera cover has a small trigger that automatically open your camera because if you forget you can open close the cover but it wont work hahahahah .. thats it no drama's hahahahahah

lance try to upgrade your p990 and see the true power of it.. there are so many things that you can do 1 upgrade your video to Media Core player this will give you better video results 2 your music upgrade it to the Walkman series and even the results are unremarkable!! 3 camera you can upgrade the program to get more crisp resolution and even use the LED flash as your video cam light just in case the surroundings is dark or even pitch black hahahahahah 4 the default web browser is already an opera mini 3.1v so you can upgrade your defalut browser to the 5.02 version hahahah easier to navigate and faster .. (if you gon'na ask me) and more hahhaahaha all of this yopu can try to discover using google but if you are a filipino try this symbianize.com and search for p990 all of the upgrades are there just read and follow love maxwell

attach your p990 to your computer using the USB and your p990 will ask you transfer data? phone mode? charge mobile via USB? all you need to do is click on "transfer data" and DONT HIT OK leave the screen as it is then go to sony ericsson and click update software and look for the p990 and update is to UK version you cnat copy the file to your computer because its protected by sony ericsson of course but you can update your mobile phone via live internet so it like updating your phone on a live streaming mode hahahahah then thats it hope i helped out love maxwell ;P

guys tthis is a nice to know you think iphones is the only mobile that you can upgrade the OS and improve performance.. well your wrong i just upgraded my p990 OS and improved it thru the sony erricsson live update.. upgraded my p990 OS and it was a big improvement,.. if you always experience freezing or delay with this improved OS (still symbian of course) it will remove that problem so i found out that we can use different OS with this p990 and im now trying to find out if we can use the same OS of the sony erricsson VIVAZ !!! this p990 ROCKS

mon mon please clarify your question please.... with or without? if without i dont know which country your on so i dont know how to answer your question but here with us that is possible :) now to answer your question with load and with wifi goto MENU>TOOLS>CONTROL PANEL>CONNECTION>INTERNET ACCOUNTS> GROUP> CREATE 2 GROUPS> 1 NAME IT WIFI then add the default> 2nd group name in any name you want and add to that group the gprs,mms and wap settings of your mobile provider so if you will use your regular web browser on your mobile it will ask you which do you want to use the wifi or your load :) love maxwell

jane RN no need to download heheheh just go to the web of your mobile and go to yahoo.com on the yahoo top page there is a tab of "my favorites" click that and scroll down and you will see yahoo mesenger click that and log in then magic you are now connected to the yahoo messenger via mobile hahahah DOWNSIDE its not live streaming hahahaha meaning if someone sent you a message you need to click refresh or scroll down there is a word home click that and it will tell you if someone replied hahahahah so you need to have a good instinct when to hit refresh to know if they replied already hahahahaha so i hope i helped out love maxwell :)

Tyrone how to connect to wifi open flip > on the lower left of the screen there is a triagle> tap > WLAN > tap the drop down on top of the screen > check enable > tap the word SCAN > it will look for any available wifi connection (each wifi is 10 meters so if you leave the spot you might be disconnected) > if there is a PADLOCK design beside the wifi name lets tackle that later > look for a wifi name that doesnt have a PADLOCK > hightlight that name > TAP the arrows beside the SCAN name (that means connect) > wait for 10 - 20 seconds > it will tell you CONNECTED> tap BACK > look for your WEB icon, (its a drawing of a p990 with a globe as its background) TAP it > and you are now connected and this is free ok.. Operator123 there are so many possiblities for that 1. check memory of your mobile if its already full coz thats 1 of the most common reason 2. try to turn off and turn on your mobile and try your camera 3. try to check the sliding cover of your camera lens because since its automatic camera mode once you slide it, one of the reason is the trigger might be a little bit loose so we need to tighten it up 4. check your phone try to open a video and close or minimize it and then try to create a sms then click the back botton and go to your file manager and then click the back button, this should put 3 or more programs running on your task manager (tap the 2 arrow design on your lower right screen, open flip) then try open your camera and see if this will still freeze, if it does you just need to reboot your mobile phone post your email here i'll send you a disk cleaner to remove unwanted file on your mobile also i will include the instructions

rob what do you mean a player? for internet? download BOLT browser it has a built in flash player for playing youtube and other flash required games or files.. if player of your mobile phone, download coreplayer search google for that, use a pc and attach your mobile phone, get the .rar file and intall it to the main SYSTEM of your C:// drive, this is a nice program because it will make your video crisp like an HD screen.. also it will play almost any video like mp4, HD, JPG, etc... or if you want jusrt read our past comments here i gave a lot of advices on how to use your p990

please try this out and dont use wifi for this use your regular internet from your mobile provider.. download BOLT browser 2.02 version on your p990 its great on open flip altough the graphics is a little bit anoyying and small because this is a desktop view the great thing here is it comes with flash program so you can watch youtube, play flash games such as farmville and other flash games but dont expect too much on live poker flash games hahahahah but this is great for those poeple who are very frustrated in getting youtube working on thier mobile hahahahah hope i helped out just google search this, download and install truly yours maxwell hahahaha

jane_RN ok you already scan for a wifi signal and it shows you a list, no padlock design at the side , highlight it, there is a green arrow at the bottom of your sreen tap that and it will say connecting , wait for the word connected and then tap the back button and then look for your WEB icon and whaaalaaa you are now connected to the world wide web via wifi!! you can know if you are still connected by looking at the tower icon at the bottom of your screen if the color os blue you are still connected if it is gray you have to go back to step one hahahahah wifi signal that has a padlock get the password from the store manager or store attendant the highlight the name of the wifi signal that has a padlock then try to connect it will show you an error message and then go to settings , look for the word "key" or "access key" i forgot hahahaha but anyway look for the word key then enter the password there that was given to you oby the store and then just connect just like the instruction above for cracking wifi padlock's look at google and search for airsniffer program that cracks padlocks.. oh by the way also look for the file explorer so at least if ever you encounter any downloads that is a zip file you can un-zip it using this tool go to wapshare.com and any tolls you need is there

apple all you need is re-programming possible when your mobile was currupted the video program was damage and when is was reformat possible the video program was not included or was not repaired so just re-program it go to a technician or a programmer .. hope i helped

surfertrish well i think speedo gonzales knows what is the problem of your p990.. i suggest go to a technician that you can trust to fix that but for me i would advice you to clear all your pohne memory like pictures that you save in your phone c drive and other stuff that also slows the performance of our p990.. another thing how big is your memory card? 2GB 4GB? 8gb? becvause if your memory card capacity is almost full or even reach 70percent it will also slow your mobile.. anyway i also experience that memory card currupted i just turn off my phone remove the card check the contact if it is clean, put it back turn on the phone and that fix the problem all the time .. hope i help

@trish got mine (p990i) for 3yrs now. had the same problem such as yours, i discovered that the slot for memosy tends to break the memory railing. it was brought about by the loading and removal of the mmc. while the camera initializes long due to a loose micro switch located at the back of the camera lens cover. i can help you fix that. just let me know ok? hope you have that phone fixed. it is a great phone im still using mine as of this time SPEEDO GONZALES

Hi to all P990i fans, i've had my p990i for 3 years already and suddenly the camera and memory slot do not work anymore. It remains on Initializing when I turn on the camera and when I insert my memory it says "memory corrupted". I checked that my memory is working fine with my pc, so there's no problem in it. I already updated my firmware to the latest one, did hard reset and none seem to work. Can it still be fixed? I'm thinking to bring it to some technician guy.. I'd love to hear your ideas. ramin if you have a technician friend let him check the contact point of your battery and phone sometimes its just damage that create a quick battery drain .. my cousin told me he got his phone fix for the same issue they just check the contacts and solder maybe 3 to 6 times a certain part of the mother board and i think so far its working fine ..

ramin check your internal memory if it is full one of the reason that the mobile is shutting down automatically is for better performance the phone will shut down and restart so better clean up your messages it also eats up memory space , files like pictures transfer it to your memory card as much as possible dont put anything on your internal memory .. if this doesnt work please get a cable and attach your p990 to your pc try to reformat your phone and that will hlp becasue your phone will be put back to its original set up and no files only o.s. will remain or you can do it yourself go to tools>device>others> reformat phone .. now i dont want to say that there is no solution to your problem coz here in the philippines we have programers that you can pay 100pesos and they can resolve that issue.. if your outside the philippines please visit forums and websites that will provide you information on how to reformat or reboot your phone for better performance but sometimes those kind of issue may have a connection with your phones mother board.. maybe you dropped your phone that result a damage in your mother board and needs repair another possibility is the maybe the battery is damage.. i hope you can get your phone fix this is one of the best phone in the market ..

My p990 goes off regularly when I`m sending messages or making calls. I tried to fix the problem by changing the height of 6 pieces of metal that touch the sim-card, it helped at first but after sometime it went off again while sending sms. I don`t know what to do? No, thats just wrong !!! A/B/G/N for wi-fi is an indicator of it's MAXIMUM speed. A/B can connect to G/N router, and G/N can connect to a A/B router. Whoever says otherwise does not know anything about routers or wi-fi. By the way my home router is N standard and my P990 connects to it.

sunako let me refresh you on the wifi once you enable your wifi and there is a podlock icon beside it you need the password from the owner of the wifi like for example starbucks coffee shops they have free wifi but you need the password and once you activate your wifi go back to the main page > menu> tools> connection > the wifi name with the padlock > tap it > tap the drop down and go to settings and enter the password and set it up to establishment hit save then go to your phone built in internet .. if the wifi that you detected doesnt have a podlock its open and free you can just hit connect the two arrows below but its a first come first serve there is only a certain limit that a wifi can support.. if there is a star and no podlock beside the name of the icon its ok meaning your p990 already have the settings for that and its open and free no password needed just hit connect and once connected go to the built in browser of your mobile phone i hope i answered your concern if its still not working please leave a messsage here i will find the answer for you

WHAY A TOUCHSCREEN FEATURE IS A DISADVANTAGE?? the thing is guys that if you only have a touchscreen and you always use your fingers our hands and fingers sweat right and in a long run your screen will oxidate or in outher words the screen will blur and be damage permanently and you cant replace the screen that easily thats why having a seperate qwerty keyboard is the best thing it will minimize the damage .. even if you have a stylus it will not prevent the damage that you can do to your screen specially if you dont have a seperate qwerty keyboard and if you dont have a very nice stylus.. solution is get a screen protector right.. but putting a screen protector will lessen the sensitivity of your touch screen so as a result you tend to tap your screen more putting more pressure on your screen that may end up to more damage hahahaha so for me p990 resolved that issue long time ago by seperating your QWERTY keyboard.. and best advice to the people who have a touchscreen wheter its a resistive touchscreen of a captive touchscreen get a screen protector it will lessen the sensitivity but it will protect your screen from damage .. now for the p990 users if you already have a screen protector go to TOOLS>CONTROL PANNEL> DEVICE> SOUND AND ALERTS>BUTTONS AND SCREEN>FLIPKEYPAD choose click>SCREEN TAP choose click> KEYBOARD choose click> SAVE.. the purpose of this is you will hear a click sound everytime you push any button on your phone so you dont need to click so hard both on your QWERTY keyboard and your screen because i know most of you are not so sure if you already pushed the right button and tends to presh more pressure both on the keyboard and the screen so you are unawware that you are damaging you phone, but if you do this yeah it will extract more battery life but its ok at least your not damaging you phone right hahahah hope i helped out guys..

rohan sorry for the delayed reply.. for me it depends on what is your trip.. for me i like bulky phone and since the p990 is so thick 26mm compare to the rock e6 which is only 14mm i guess hahaha i dont want a thin phone .. if your looking for a PDA this is a good starter the p990 because this is a 3g phone you can put opera mini on this.. wi-fi ready so if you are in a mall that is wi-fi ready you can use this to browse and download for free music,games, video etc.. and the best feature for me is the program can read and download excel,word just an example i have a copy of my resume in my phone so eveerytime i want to find another job i can send it right away hahahahah so its really up to you for music its good not that great but good.. another thing guys we can use up to 8GB of memory on this already tested and guaranteed so for me the p990 is best you cna compare it yourself motorola rock e6 vs p990

1st where did you get the file? if you got it from a PC possible that the file is not compatible with your phone.. so before trying to transfer your file from pc to phone try to rename the file from .mp4 to .mp3 at the end if the name if you can change it if not 2nd get a file explorer for p990 and then change the file name from .mp4 to .mp3 it should work i've been doing it so many times hehehehe if it still doesnt work 3rd option try to use your phone video take a 30 second and play it if it works there is no problem with your phone, but if it doesnt play your mobile needs to be reprogram for your mp4 player to work again but please as much as possible reprograming your p990 should be your last option because it will delete all of your file and it will restore your phone to its factory settings hope this help

RUSS you have a problem on your p990 i check our phones here and our mobile can still get a nice pic even if we didnt push the capture button in full our auto focus is working just fine.. i suggest you find the disk cleaner program that will clean the unwanted file of your operating system (OS)that is causing this kind of issue that is according to my friend Robby who is a technitian of mobile phones, dont worry this will not reboot your phone and deleteyour files like pictures, video etc ok hope this help by the way this is a java file

arun first try to check your file manager/video (memory card or phone memory) look for the video/ if you will see a question mark beside the file name of the video the file connot be read and possible corrupted might as well delete it if the video connot be played try to turn off your mobile and remove the memory card let it rest for 10 seconds and return the memory card properly turn phone on and try after 1 minute last option is i will send you an link for a file explorer so you can check your phone internal files

guys one of the problem of P990 is even you already deleted the files in your phone memory but it still say memory full and result is your phone is freezing i recomend you to download disk cleaner and cap switch to remove the unwanted files i'll post here the link if i have time

you dont need to download torch program for the LED to light up while using the video all you need to do is go to camera activate the flash press the capture button at the side halfway then press the camera icon on the lower left corner so it will switch to video release the capture button the LED flash will stay lit for video hope you enjoy your p990 (for the light to be turn off do the proceedure again)

if you are having multiple issue on the phone memory you can also try to tranfer files to memory card and try to buy a bigger memory card.. try 2GB of memory card i dont know if you can use 8GB on the P990i because my technical support friends say that the phone will freeze up every once in a while if you will do so..

I'm loving this phone so much. Its very user friendly and much better than other symbian or winmo phones that I tried. Only weakness is the memory, witch can be partially solved with the use of swiss manager(I rarely reset my phone). Its very durable and mod friendly. I have modded the phone greatly (sound, camera, bigger virtual keypad etc.) and have many programs and games. Also have GDesk with fantastic Iphone theme. I like design better than the P1, but that is my opinion. I dont see any phone to change p990 with, so I stick with it as long as it works.

i have a P990i and its working great and for the poeple that is having a problem specially on phone re-setting by itself the biggest posibility is your phone internal memory is full check it by going to TOOLS - CONTROL PANNEL - DEVICE - MEMORY WIZARD - hit next - VIEW check which memory do you want to view and see for yourself.. if your phone memory is full transfer files to memory card or delete it to make some space for your phone because once phone memory is full your phone will really act up on you

P990i Is a very durable phone, i have been using it for 3 years. its still very durable, no technical issues till now, non whats so ever. Its a great touch screen phone, got a screen guard and still touch screen works like magic. The jog dial is very useful as i have lost my stylus. No issues with the OS, Camera is good for snaps but not for video. Very good phone for Radio and speaker phone, sound quality amazing. Never has issues with Network coverage, GPS or GPRS. I have removed the flap as its easy to slide in the tight Jeans pocket, without the flap it still retains all its functionality. Its little bulky and a bit thick, but that adds to its robust built, i have dropped it from a hight of 4 to 5 feet like 20 times, once fell down from my bike at speed of 30 kmph and fell on the side where i had tucked it in the pocket, it refused to die nor it developed any cracks on the body. Still works with no issues Recently installed Gdesk 0.33 and i have my own Iphone like 3D flow on my P990i. In india 3G is still in infancy so dint get to use its 3G features, but Google maps and Opera are so good to use on this phone. I LOVE THIS PHONE, ITS JUST GREAT. I will use this phone as long as it is functional, no plans to replace it for a long time to come.

i was a user of the P-series, from p800, p910 then p990 and bit of p1. P990 is the phone that i loved the moset because: - great screen - very tough and durable - high level of moddability - clearest 2mp camera - just remove the flip and it's the best looking qwerty out there - the keyboard is raised, and much easier to type on than, say e71. my gripes on this baby though are: - very thick! - web browser always crash and needed to manually configure settings for protected hotspots - no 3.5mm jack and always need an adapter that easily becomes loose - slow. - worse video recording performance (especially w/ 8gb cards, writing is very sloooooow, and leads to choppy vids) i just wish that SE improves this model w/ at least 500+mhz processor, 16:9 aspect ratio, 13mm max thickness, xenon flash, stereo speakers and 3.5'' jack i loved this phone but had to move on - i now have a china clone of e71 (model is w71, you can search it) that does wifi, analog tv, radio, 1.3mpx cam w/ flash, 8gb mem card, dual sim, 10mm thick and very durable too!

Mine is still working perfectly without any problem at all. I've never encountered any problems since I bought my P990i more than 2 years ago (I used all P-series but P990i is the best among of them). This is the reason why I have kept my P990. I keep changing my phones to have SE's latest models but not my P990i. I am enjoying now my red Satio (before Satio, I am using X1). i had my p990i since march 2007 and my keypad and jog dial works fine and my stylus didn't break in 2 pieces. maybe you should try to handle your phone with care so that it won't break in pieces. my p990i works 100% since i bought it last 2007. no problem at all.

This phone is not the best one they can produced...very bad keyboard you should have fingers of a 10 years old kid to use it....sometimes to slow(maybe because of proccesor)the latest software has some problems to fix the java software with the screen size....no gps... Once you received the mp3 that was sent to you via bluetooth, open it, then you can see at the bottom part the button that will enable you to save the file wherever you wanna save it.. then after saving it, go to media player and search for new files, depending on your preferences if it will automatically search for new files or you can do it manually. i hope that'll help you.. :)

Hi all, I am having problem with my touch screen, some part are not responding. I have tried re-calibration but cant finished it cos some parts of the screen is not working. Secondly, I am having little when trying to connect my phone with my Laptop...windows vista. always saying Bluetooth peripheral problems stuff.. When i bought the P990i, i was surprised how well this phone works! Pretty fast interface and awesome 2 mpix camera. I'm working with Photoshop, so i need a phone with high camera resolution, and this one really helps me with that! It has no optical zoom, but the digital zoom is really good, because zooming in, it loses less detail than Nokia phones. The only problem is the batteries. I can only watch a movie or two, but then it shuts off. But still- awesome phone!!

I recently bought the SE P990i(not a new piece). It was working fine for a few days till one day its battery was completely empty. I connect it to the charger and let it charge for quite some time. When I switched it on, it flashed a light on the screen and went off. This happened several times. When took to the service center, they complained that the battery might be damaged and would need replacement. A new battery inserted also showed the same symptoms. Please help me quickly, please!

p990!?sony ericcson?well i must say that i never loved se.i don't really know why but it's true.i used to have nokia,samsung,lg and moto but always ran away from se.until p990i!i was very surprised when i got my p990i.very good build quality,nice screen very responsive,good qwerty,good battery life,music player and a absolutely incredible 2mp camera with autofocus and flash(though it has only 2mp it is one of the best cameras on a phone.it beats n73,n80,d900 by a mile).what i don't like is the flip which i removed and the Ram memory!it's ok 64 mb but if i want to play a game like asphalt gt and listen some music this is imposible.i never had any problems like other people that complain about bugs and crashes.mine is made in france.though is used to love nokia i must admit that this se phone is great and i am considering to be more into se.if this is a smartphone made by se than this is the quality that i want not nokia's cheap looking plastic and bad software not to mention the high prices!se has a problem with high prices to but maybe they'll come around.this is my oppinion about this awesume piece and if you could help me with some free sites for downloading games and themes others than the well old known ones would be great.i'm interested in symbian 3d games for my p990 not to much into the java versions and symbian apps.thanks to all of you and here's my e-mail:[email protected].

Sony's pc suite is very annoying because sometimes it just won't work. The P990i has bugs and I just can't understand why it crashes...The software really needs to be rebuilt properly. I used windows phones too and they crash but at least I can understand why. Well... it's mostly my fault if my windows smartphone will crash. Sony's OS...pfff it's very surprising. But this phone can be a very useful organizer. It's fast. I like the text input both with the stylus and the qwerty keyboard. And it takes good photos too :) Many people like it but i think windows smartphones are more flexible.

Hi everybody I got my phone for flashing, and immediately after flashing, bad changes occur which are: the total memory became 47.7mb and total free is 37.5mb with free ram of 8.2mb immediately after booting along with sonyericsson starting screen. Previous specification before flashing is 64mb total memory 60mb free memory, 15mb free ram immediately after booting ,with orange starting screen. In all,low speed and regular low memory is what i am facing. I need advice not firmware upgrade. Thanks

Hi Your problem is to find a dictionary viewer(dictviewer) to open all uiq3 installed dictionary. Without it, you will find no solution. I own my P990i for near 2 years. I discovered so much capabilities about it, installed a lot of apps. I have about 40 programs and games, it doesn't make any bugs during operation, and it's not slowing along forcing with lower RAM, that's great for PDA like P990i... One more thing, touchscreen is 2.8 inches by diagonal !!!

Please do keep the phone memory low and housekeeping is recommended. If you are planning to install any software example like earth finder or GPS software, please make sure there are enough of memory in your phone as the installation file are stored there. Rebooting your phone once in a while also does helps to refresh memory after each time you run some installation files. I stored all images and music files into my memory card so it won't jammed up your phone memory status and so far so good in terms of installing some GPS software. Phone is working in excellent condition. If you are still getting errors after installing, please go to your nearest sony and have the phone refresh with its OS.

Hi guys, The 2nd phone pricing as of today's date 30th June 2009 is lower than brand new phone pricing. However, i would say kindly get a new phone if you are interested in the Sony Ericsson P900i. The joy of having this is when you explore the phone and settings just as out of the box experience. I currently using one and why i still use it as i have had been using P series right from P800 to P990. P series had its own class. Beside, i was the guy who build the 2 mega pixel autofocus camera and i do know that this is the first of it kind and fastest autofocus camera during its launching time. I am still using it till today and have no complaint with its application and camera respond. I wish Sony would build another phone like the P990i with a 5 or 8 megapix camera instaaled in it. This phone is connecting you from almost anywhere in this world as long as there are acception line to your service provider.....excellent phone!

Because it keep telling me unspecified erro, reason 0, isisregist whenever i want to install and uninstall anything other than themes, and some already installed application became hidden and working speed is now very slow. @vst3 - In Saudi Arabia, I have not seen a second-hand yet (all brand new). It only shows that those who bought XPERIA X1 (like me) is satisfied with the unit. Normally, a second-hand is available once a successor of the unit is already available, i.e. XPERIA X2 hopefully is available before end of this year, then those who bough X1 will swap their X1 to X2 which what I did too. Once X2 is available then I will swap my X1 with additional amount. Then, that's the time you can find second-hand X1.

If anything wrong with your unit (hardware), like the flip is not working, qwerty keyboard is not working, always refer to the authorized SE dealer or shop and they should know where you can buy the broken or not working flip or maybe the problem only is some connection/wiring inside. I would recommend also that you upgrade your firmware (you should get the latest firmware) through SE shop.

P990i is truly a smartphone in the real sense of the word and I would say P990i is one of the best phone ever produced by SE (all P-series though), that's why I keep this unit aside from using XPERIA X1, iPhone and Samsung F480. Availability? I think P990i still available here in Saudi Arabia (few stores)less than a thousad Saudi Riyals (I bought mine when first came in Saudi Arabia at SR2,999 at that time, but it's worth every penny for me because after almost 3 years, I haven't encounter a single problem, still working perfectly, its camera quality (only 2megapixel) is almost the same quality as my 5megapixel Samsung F480. Even its video quality is fantastic.

Internet set-up problem, make sure that your SIM card is internet-capable, meaning check with you network provider the necessary installation. Here in Saudi Arabia, for example you are using Mobily SIM card or ZAIN SIM card, once you inserted your SIM card to your phone, you will receive automatically all setting for your MMS, SMS, Internet, etc and we just saved it in our phone and everything is ready, including video streaming.

I have never tried YouTube on my P990i. Since this unit is not YouTube ready, I understand there's a third party application (UIQ)to be installed in the unit before you can enjoy watching YouTube. I would recommend not to use it since the unit is not fast enough to run YouTube, its processor is around 200+Mhz only and YouTube requires higher CPU. Aside from my P990i, I am also using XPERIA X1 and iPhone and because these 2 units has a powerful CPU and amazing high screen resolution, you really enjoy YouTube.

All data received from bluetooth is always saved in the phone memory. No option to save directly to the memory card, unlike picture/photo that you can assign the photo taken to the memory card.

P990i is supported up to 8GB. Using 8GB is no hassle at all, still fast and no lag. I've beeng using this phone since its launch on the market and still working perfectly. This is the only phone that I hava maintained. Others I have swapped everytime new model comes (SE, Samsung, Nokia), but I always preferred SE phones because of the quality. At the moment, I am using XPERIA X1 and looking forward to have the SE Satio once released. SE ROCKS

that happens sometimes with this phone...only thing u need to keep in mind is to keep ample free memory in this phone by ending the application u've used from the task manager...u might also consider restarting it evry morning so dat the memory lost due to memory leakage is recovered....u will the encounter this problem very less..hope this helps..

My phone doesn't allow Phone Mode, but can use the File Transfer Mode. Also a month ago, all of a sudden I'm unable to receive the messages sent to me immediately. I have to turn off my phone first and turn it back on then the messages will arrive. I'm thinking maybe my thousand messages is causing this, but that's just an assumption. What might be causing this? I don't want to restore everything on default since I don't have back-up files yet. Answers to my dilemma would be very much appreciated. Thanks.^.^

I wanted to buy a phone. My requirements were 3g, wlan, edge, gprs, touch screen, pda, office, fm radio and above all great music. So, obviously I took interest in Nokia 5800 which was within my budget. But soon I found out that its volume is too low. Then I took interest on the only remaining phone on my list. That's SE P990i. Though it's a bit old but after 1 months use and thorough inspection, I would say, it's far better than Nokia 5800, or even the coming N96. Most of all thanks to its price drop. I bought it new with only 213$ (US). It would have worth every penny - even if I had to bought it with 400$. Recommend this phone for everyone who has the same requirements.

Your calibration is faulty, sometimes its just the screen's problem. Change its calibration screen first and if it doesn't still work, u gotta change the whole screen set

I have been using for over a year. The phone hangs up frequently. I have to take the battery out and put it back for it to work again. Does automatic re-starts also frequently. Its office applications work very well and wifi is very good.

i could say,if you'll allow me, its the best phone ive ever had. no hang ups experience for the last 1 year and 2months of use. i can call and hear the caller loud and clear. battery life is good. office application is very useful. it doesnt hang, it doesnt restart by itself and it support 8 gig memory stick. i can't think of any problems with my p990i. its absolutely the best phone for me. wifi and internet browsing is useful also. very tough even if i drop it several times. my p990i is in the best performance for the last 1 year and 2months.

It restarts by its self i cant hear people on the phone sometimes and it gets stuck whilst I'm typing a message or when trying to answer a incoming call. Worst phone I've ever owned!!!!!! you can use your wlan / wifi if you're on wifi hotspot. you can find it on some gas stations or restaurants or net shop. jus enable it and you can surf internet in an instant.

Dear Pepsio, select the pict. (open flip first) then you choose the option at the top screen. Choose set as walpaper. After that, select the option open flip/close flip, then save. In your case, you have to select the close flip. Finally your pict will appear in small screen (close flip mode)

i use P990i at 3month it's a great phone... but there are some minus. 1.that's a slowly phone... 2.no manual eq in media player 3.if we use hard app, sometime, this phone will be restart (i use 1GB memory card) 4.standar camcorder video it's so poor. QCIF that some minus of P990i.. although there are some minus, but P990 it's a great phone with a complete features... i like this phone very much...

I didn't get the P990i years back as 3 decided not to take it on. So I went for the N95. Having seen the prices drop on Ebay, I did buy a P990i - probably 10% of original retail. I certainly can see where the value phone is as the SE has almost no support, whereas the Nokia is firing away and is not slow. A did buy another P990i recntly because only these can work with Sony's LocationFree TV - like a DREAM, but not so well on 3G depending on provider.

Salut, I got an SE 99*i , it looks nice and lovely but technically after 2 years it doing really bad , it hangs so often, need to restart it so often too, Some options are really so difficult to deal with, Emailling by this so-called- smart phone is so difficult too comparing to other phones by Nokia. it is said that it plays alldiffernt types of music but it only plays MP3 and AAc, to copy files or even muci from PC to phone, always comes very bad, it drives me crazy when it says" copied " later when I try to check nothing was copied at all, I usually see this message "error" very often.Briefly I dont recommend this phone from my point of view . I just got a 2nd hand se p990i 4 days ago. the person who sold me the phone said that he has used the phone for only a year and a half. the battery is class a so as the charger. the battery last for only 3 hours and all of a sudden the middle button of the flip keypad/menu button no longer work. I was very ecstatic to have this phone at a low price, but now all I can do is move on from my misfortune. *shrugs*

@ douglas dude, if you using it over 3G then I don't think there should be any prob with it. go to m.youtube.com or if you doing over wifi then you have to do DMZ for ip address assigned to your phone. google DMZ to know how to do it. cheers, Mav

The P990i does have quickoffice. Able to create n edit MS Office word, excel n powerpoint. Mine came with it. Can imagine why it wasnt written the gsm arena phone specs.. Its a great fone thou. Been using mine for the past 2 yrs, i cant even dream about getting rid of it.

I don't think this is a very useful feature. =) Try some other applications. and by the way, This phone has everything that all the new phones have in the market. P990i orange is better than p990i sonyericsson, it has a very lasting battery and can take u to any limit of a smartphone. I have be using my for a year but see no fault, it thou sometimes hange but virus protected i suggest, and i don't want to update it, because of forum saying. I need no fault apart from when it fall sometimes go off. Everyone tell sonyericsson for a great pseries not p1i that is very blog, let say P999i. Thanks everybody.

HI there, If you want to use the led light in videos, follow this step: First open the camera on shoot mode with led/light on. With your finger touching slightly the camera botton, as if you are taking the shot, the led will light up on that instance then shift the camera mode to video mode on the screen..The led light will be on while shooting on video mode...

Hi Efan, Try updating the software or firmware of your hand phone. Some issues have been resolved by updating the firmware regarding the keyboards when flip are open of if the flip was removed. If you updated your firmware already and the problem still persist, then maybe the problem is the keyboard itself. Try to visit SE Repair Services or a private cell phone technician you trust.

Hi Rafael, First,you should install the OPERA MINI web browser coz it's much better than the built-in web browser...after you install it,go to and tab on a theme then choose the destination inwhich it'll be saved...then go to the file manager and install the theme...then it'll appear in the themes menu...that's all.

Regarding memory card - guys maybe you are not reading your Instruction Manual. It clearly mentioned there that P990i is supported up to 8GB. Hope this helps those who are always asking this matter. Again, up to 8GB.

Those who doesn't connect to the internet, please make sure that your SIM card is internet capable. If you are using SUN SIM card, check with SUN to configure your cellphone. Normally, there's installation from the SIM provider for internet, MMS, video streaming, etc. These installations are extremely important to have these features in our cellphone.

I just got my p990i recentlt. the problem i am having is that i am unable to configure it automatically with my network provider(mtn) or manually to browse with the fone. I have tried all configuration i know which is working perfectly with nokia phones, yet its not working. Hi Joe, I'm a 5 months P990i user...phone is great and I'm very satisfied with it.You can make a software update from the sonyericsson website by installing the update service on your pc and then follow the procedures very carefully...I tried it and made a software update to my phone after a week from buying it,and reall the phone performance and respond was totally changed...wish to you good results...

Friends,i am an all phone user, ranging 4m k750 - nokia3230, nokia3250, nokia5300, n70, n72, l7motorola blade, nokia9300, samsung l700, and now a p990i user. It is an ideal phone 4 a phone lover,thou it hangs alot, with equal advantage and disadvantage. I love it equally hate it. When using it with an opera browser it lack memory and closes browser, is dat a firmware or software problem. If it's any reply on dis site we are. Secondly it is a phone dat always restart 4 every unnecessary reasons, what is dat 4? Reply u back by saying phone restart to increase performance, no changes occur also. Performing 2 task desame time we led to d close down of either both or one.aah.... wat is dat 4? Memory.too bad. I need no update, bcs updates are very sticky irritating,phone hangs when playing videos up to 10mb and above, but after some 2 to 3 minutes it started playing,and videos greater dan 30mb makes it hangs and ready 4 restarting. Very irritating 4 a phone with large amount, audio player, plays very late. Help som

yeah it works with 4gb memory but it hangs alot but work with 2gb memory properly

i bought this phone second hand. i've noticed that the tap feature of my phone is too far off from where im actually pointing the stylus at... any comment and solution?!? even if i try calibrating the screen a number of times it still is way off from where im pointing the stylus. also ive noticed that im having problems ticking items that are on the side of the screen which make it hard to mark them. any advise?!? is it due to the screen protector i've put on the phone? will a software upgrade fix this... thanks guys!!!

Fantastic and mindblowing. One of the best cellphone I used. It is cheap as its specifications. It like computer keyboard and 3G, Infrared, Bluetooth, Excelm PDF, Powerpoint, FM, WLAN, WiFi, Upto 4GB memory, etc. I can't think about it because in 2006 it releases with this type of functions. I bought this phone brand new 6 months ago, the only thing i can say is that SonyEricsson really knows its job! The phone is almost ideal, but for small and unimportant problems, unfortunately i was not able to enjoy the 3G, since in my home city it is not implemented properly and the signal is too weak. the major problem is that i now want to switch to P1i, but can't sell the p990i at the desiraqble price...

there is no option for changing memory stick bcoz phone memory and memory stick both r active together...i think u watch carefully then i m sure that u can find it...

There is a problem in my P990i.i put some themes in my handset.after that i set the theme one of them.my mobile is completely struck....i put the battery out of my mobile.after 5-10 mins i put my battery back to my cell phone.but when i swtich on my mobile...there is a problem occur....intially when mobile starts...the loading occurs...after 50% loading...my mobile struck....and unable to load completely...please help me what can i do ????? my e-mail is: [email protected]

To Jeff Try to set Auto focus that happen's some time but about the Blur there is nothing like this thing in Avail Firmware but tell about the Firmware Version u have?
