Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY - User Reviews

  • Loved that phone back in the say for what it was. I wish more people had stuff like this nowadays. Lost mine years ago. ☹

  • just change the slide flex cable and it the fuzzy screen would go away lol. no one told you to buy a 2011 phone in 2017 btw.

  • Xperia Play camera rate is 8/10, it just has 5 Megapixel and not include the SONY BRAVIA ENGINE which will increase superb colour performance. however, this phone is still good for capture picture. how to download games on this phone? I think the pone was great for people who enjoy the game.

  • No, the phone is way too old with weak specs to run PUBG mobile. It would be really slow, assuming you were able to get the game on the phone (I highly doubt if that is possible).

  • can you run Pubg mobile on this mobile?

  • yess

  • But does it have tactile controls, like this phone?

  • My god, I remember this phone, was actually a great phone

  • This phone was way ahead of its time.

  • The closest one

  • Razer phone. It's not that cheap tho ;)

  • Razer Phone?

  • I would like to see a gaming phone like this made in 2018 too

  • It's been 7 years and there's no sign of a successor to the best ever Android gaming phone design Xperia Play. It fits the title of a gaming phone due to hardware keys which provide excellent haptic feedback. I would be happy to see Sony Xperia Play 2 with hardware buttons and upgraded everything according to the 2018 standard. C'mon Sony.

  • here's a link: hope that you are happy

  • true

  • Reasons to not buy it 1)Is bad as f&@$ 2)If you wanna a video game in a phone download a emulator and buy a bluetooth control

  • You're commenting on a 2011 phone at 2017, it's either you don't know what you're talking about, or just plain crazy. I mean, why would you pay a price like that on a 2011 phone? Don't expect too much and rant here in GSMArena. Think before posting dude.

  • This phone probably had a manufacturing defect. Tried every bit to revive the phone from the fuzzy screen but sony themselves didn't know how to handle the issue. Result - Status : discontinued. Put me and thousands others in deep trouble. Lost 31K on this. Could buy a beast like the one plus 5 with that amount. When you make phones, atleast make sure you test them enough rather than capitalizing on some new trend that you set.

  • What ROM you using for it and how is the performance?

  • Totally agree with you.. Xperia play rock!

  • Yeah, for Facebook I use Facebook Lite because Facebook, Messenger and Whatsapp will consume all your resources and make your phone really slow, so I opted for using Whatsapp and Facebook Lite and so this is the smartphone I'm using as today, with some other apps installed and running really nice, specially the emulators

  • Still using it. Still supported by Google Play Store. Rooted my device for better storage management (Link2SD). Playing retro games flawlessly with this device. Loving it because of the physical gaming pad.

  • no matter if you try to download the bloap, but is not concerning the gigabytes you spend is all about courage, you can serve the down but no matter who wins, is not to beg a bet, I mean no to overprice it, you could would like getting update, to downgrade all system floats the RAM, but you will be fine, as next president will be better, no worries about next leader winged or not, lets suppose you believe, but in the deep we all now not good to us, but them will be free to play, just download, install it, if it doesn't work, don't blame elections.

  • hey I'm literally doing the same thing, do you know if the app store works fine and the updates are not too outdated?

  • I like sony experia play because I have it I would like to congratulate Sony company for their good and luxury products all in all I give you congratulation.

  • that would be xperia vita

  • sony need to revive this phone

  • hi! i want to know if this phone are supported to play warcommander in kixeye?? if can play, they need to installed apps to activate the game of war commander? thanks! hoping for response

  • they should launch a successor of this phone with better specs .

  • I miss this phone. Not having to touch the screen when playing. And the feel of those touch pads in the middle.

  • After my Xperia Z Ultra C6833 broke on me I've decided that instead of getting a current device (I was going to get a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro)I'm going to get myself an Xperia Play instead. Just ordered it from Ebay and I can't wait. --If anyone here owns one and uses a custom rom for R800i, could you please tell me which ROM you use and whether or not you use SWAP for the extra RAM? Thank you in advance to any replies.

  • Im still in love with my xperia Play, im using the PPSSPP to play Final Fantasy Dissidia , Drastic to play Mario Kart Ds and Ocarina of time, And Marvel vs Capcom on EPXE , is simple portable and confortable experience. I will try the new 6.0 Marshmallow Cyanogenmod Rom soon The thing that really botters me from this 2011 device is there Only 400mb internal memory, really?? Why?? So . Please Sony give us another Xperia Play. Maybe with PS2 and PS3 games?? Dream is free right?? Ha ha

  • Yes,bring back xpera play..............

  • please bring back expera play

  • where did u get it from?? i want it tooo pliz tell me

  • i need this mobile screen display but is this not available in our town

  • oh im sorry you were right!!! when you will release the xpheria play3 with 4Gb of RAM and snap dragon 810 CPU, now im so happy tomorrow they are goint to build it just because I stated it, IDDDDIOOOOOTTT!!!

  • your comment is so stupid, I mean, yeah off course they are going to make a device with the specific specs that you stated like you are the most important person to them, you wont realize that you dont even exist for them don´t ya?

  • yes we can play this on COC cause its android + java phone !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can we play clash of clan on this phone, please help me,,, I want to buy this phone bu Im affraid I can't play COC...

  • i thought this is still on the demand

  • if we want to sell or do exchange offer then why the option do not come

  • Why Its Doesnt Have Clash Of Clans

  • How do I download the playstore?Thank you.

  • ur Gadd damn right. adreno 420 it is!!!!.

  • How to Download psp games on this phone

  • Yes

  • When you release xperia play 2 with 2.7 CPU, 3 GB of ram, 420 adreno GPU and 4000 mAh battery?

  • what size is the battery and can I get and extended battery

  • is it possible to get the parts of this phone?

  • Yes

  • No, you can't.

  • can you connect the xperia play to a ps3 and use it as a contoller?

  • Can this phone did hotspot and tathering??

  • doweksowe oweksowksowe kweoswksieis soweksowksoe vksowksowksow oweksowksowksoe vksoweka esowksowksowksowe cksowksowksowe ojoweksowekapwla xweksoweiwjsiwe jsiwjsiwjsiweiw vjsiwsiwja rsiwejsiwj iweowesowkswkoer bksowesowksowksoe owekso nskwesowksowksowe kxwkswsowksoweksowk xkweksowksoeka rsoweksowkowe ckweksowksoweksowko rksoweksowka

  • does need for speed most wanted game optimized for this phone?

  • im very exciting this week for my new xperia play i know that is not like a 2014 coming phone its very far from hardware and software but i think this kind off phone is like a collection for me bcos our generation is more on touch bigger screen unlike with querty keypad the best is having a with console its very nice, base in 90 % comment is very nice this time is untique for me good job for sony ericson. thank for all comment before i purchase it.

  • awesome device......bt y is its internet de slow mode

  • It can't be helped, since it was released on 2011. Which in 2011, Xperia PLAY categorized as one of high-end phones.

  • I am waiting for the Xperia Play 2

  • how to change my storage setting ..

  • i love xperia play it deserve a sequel yeah but sony would not build a new one (i mean sony ericcson) cuz it would decrease the psvita sales i mean everyone would buy this badass smartphone but no one the psvita and now psvita is compatible with the ps4 if sony could build a new xperia play with higher proccessors and ecc and compatible with the ps4, it would be the Best and the Best of the smartphones :D go sony make a sequel! please do it for all of us xD

  • make another in this psp phone

  • Im just looking for the price

  • please..........please..............please..............sony make sony xperia play ii

  • Is there a way to charge the battery outside the phone? F.i. in an external charger. eli

  • loved this phone since the day i got it, though a few months ago it started randomly crashing and shutting off, i bought a brand new battery for it as a final attempt to correct the problem and it works beautifully again, get a 32 or 64 GB micro sd card and a 'move to SD' app from the store for space issues, this phone is beautifully designed for retro gaming not newer gaming which is why i bought it, 2.5 years into my 3 year contract and have no desire to get a new (less desireable) phone.

  • try your local pawn shop or ebay or similar online stores, i see them in these locations all the time.

  • Where can I buy one of these?

  • I have had it since release, there is no substitute. As other comments, when you are travelling you don´t want to carry 10 extra thingies to play or entertain. sure you can play some sensor games on an Iphone, but so can this phone. when the buttons are required the rest go to a halt. Still waiting for the Xperia PLAY II and will continue to do so until release.

  • This phone are badass! I dropped it from a first storey building and it still work even with a black dot in the screen. and way more crazy is after 3 weeks it heals it self! I know it sounds crazy but its the truth. And yes this phone needs a sequel.

  • How do u delete photos on this phone

  • The Xperia Play really needs a sequel. Taking a normal phone and attaching a controller just isn't the same.

  • Not very, considering it's over 3 years old.

  • i got one way back on 2012 december its a good phone, very nice to play with FPsxe using Playstation 1 ROMS.the only complain to this phone is the internal memory and the screen on the lower part is not anymore responding, maybe its the flex of the phone damaged already because it constantly drops,my son always play with it.

  • I personally love this phone and am still to this day using it,i did have to put a new rom on it a month ago to free up ram and debloat it. Phone is amazing gaming buttons are a pleasure to use on fpse gnes and gensoid. yes it has a single core processor and 512mb of ram. if you want to play the newest playstore games this phone isnt for you if you want to play old school games this could be the phone for you because of the gaming buttons. also its amazingly resilient mine has dropped on the ground a few times and once in a toilet and it still works flawlessly without a blemish on the screen. I use an r800i, hope this review helps somebody ;-)

  • i can't save my contact,why?

  • comparing a 2011 single core with a 2014 quad core? are you drunk or something? LOL.

  • This phone is a waste of money 1Ghz single core processor? Can't even handle the games that would be worth playing on this phone without an overclock and lupus What you wanna do is get a nexus 5 and equip it with a moga controller

  • This phone was alright it lasted for about two years. The disappointments of this phone is the internal memory I only downloaded one app and it was already on low storage. Every time I use this phone to go on the internet such as YouTube, Instagram etc. it will crash immmediately after I click on the app. The camera was ok and the internet browsing was pretty quick. Unfortunately, it fell in the toilet and stopped working.

  • guys can you play nba 2k14 good with this even with low settings? to SONY.. PLEASE MAKE XPERIA PLAY 2

  • Guys if you come to this phone remember its 3 years old i had the normal xperia version of it with the keyboard and it ran perfectley smoothly. And that is not a lie the only problem is that both the play and normal version have cheap paint coating and after a year and a half the backcovers paint started to chip becouse of the numerous accidental drops however the screen remained intact and only cracked after a rage mode on a game which ended up in bending the phone itself untill it cracked and to my recall that was about 40 degrees because of its materials so for a first phone it is extremely durable and three years on it still keeps chuging on a 1ghz single core😃

  • I go with you MaxSuzy! I'll wait for this kind of unit. Will Sony create this type of Cellphone knowing that they separated with Ericsson?

  • psp play is worth for its value as of today. Not that expensive and gives you best quality photos knowing that its only 5MP. Games are downloadable through wifi- connection. Playing music at its best using headphones or even its own speaker. My PSP Play gives me all in one gadget I need for my everyday living.

  • 512 mb is anemic and also internal memory is only 400 mb...what a crap kind of a cellphone is this.

  • What if Sony refresh Xperia Play with 5 inch 720p Super AMOLED,Nvidia Tegra K1 SoC,32GB+MicroSDXC slot,8MP Exymor Sensor(as this is gaming device) and the most importantly 4000mAh Li-Po battery it will be a monster in Android gaming comparable to the likes of Nvidia Shield and even the PSVita itself

  • So, basically if I want to buy a smartphone and also play video games, there aren't many options out there? (In terms of video game handheld/smartphone fusion)

  • In your case, Xperia Play! The other is not good for gaming!

  • Regarding the OS, which indeed seems aged, this is still a good choice. Modified and OverClocked to 1800 MHz puts this Phone in Place to beat currently marketed Phones. You will not sense a lag in playing RipTide GP and many other games, while others crash in ICS and Jelly Bean. Others suffer under buggy GPU drivers while this one is simply working. It has stereo speakers and has some hearable bass, which is excellent for its size anyway. I made a mistake buying a CM Flare here in Asia (Adreno 203) and could not enjoy gaming without battery drains, freezes and even reboots. GingerBread is overall more stable than those ICS and JB. I had to go back to my xPeria Play. I look again for a replacement, when the android market survived the Android 4.x generation and the reviews overall tend more to be positive. Actually I see a lot of companies putting ICS and JB - Kitkat, whatsoever on low spec phones without undergoing quality, usability checks. Just to make money.

  • my phone xxperia play r800i network is not working sim card not allowed

  • sir, my xpiria play mobail set is un forthunatly touch and display is not working.i have ask the mobail centers and he said this display is not reqired... sir plz help me..

  • A mini-sim IS a regular sim. The smaller ones are micro and nano... Wikipedia SIM:

  • Got one, it's not a mini sim it's a regular-sized one.

  • Can u guys advice me a very good and reliable smartphone which is less than 11K? Plz help me out.

  • Xperia play far better oh best in every terms of Samsung galaxy s duas guys..... so don't buy luggish and very bad s duas

  • Thanks a lot guys. wish u all a happy new year.

  • Though XPlay is a great phone and all, I don't reccomend getting it. There are HUGE chances for it to break completely. Galaxy S Duos isn't that great of a phone, but I'm sure it will last you a few years. So DO NOT buy the Xplay because it's unreliable and the OS is old.

  • I first bought the phone in January 2012, back then it was one of the greatest phones available. Had no problems, gaming was great, couldn't complain about my first smartphone. Still had some minor problems like the camera, which didn't have zoom, the battery, which for a heavy user like me was a bit of an inconvenience, and the small internal memory that caused some lags at time. Still, it was a very good phone for me, because I'm a gamer and I play a lot of games. I first had a huge problem in Summer 2012, when it broke down and it wouldn't start up. I was lucky though, because a simple Android update solved it. The phone worked for a while untill April-May this year when the touchscreen stopped working at times. After a few days like this, the touchscreen didn't work at all. After a week or so, the phone broke completely. At a GSM service, they told me the CPU was broken, the phone couldn't be repaired. My experience with the phone was great while it lasted, shame it has so much problems. Kinda justifies why Sony didn't release an ICS update for it, because they knew the phone isn't reliable at all. If it didn't have all these hardware and software breakdown problems, I wouldn't have problems reccomending it to anyone. Anyway, do not buy this phone, because it is old and unreliable nowadays. I am going to buy a HTC Desire 500 or an LG Optimus F6 as a replacement for this phone

  • Guys, i need a great help from you. Can u tell me which smartphone is better this model i.e. Xperia Play R800i or Samsung Galaxy S Duos S7562? Concerning its running, it upgradation, charging time and durability(Battery lasts for how much?) Plz guys, help me out, i've got to choose one between these 2 and i don't want to regret any of my decision. Hoping for comments, it's really urgent.

  • Yes, Aussie it's perfect as stated above, i've been using it for nearly 1 and a half year, it's good and worthwhile. Moreover, you can upgrade it up to ICS, i, myself wanted to ditch this phone but after realising that it had so many functions and features, i've changed my mind. For being a smartphone of year 2011, i got a lot of interesting features such as Camera with 5 MP, front camera and it's a playstation phone. The only setback is its camera doesn't support zooming. Hope that will help you in your decision making.

  • Motorola Moto G :)

  • m not gonna say the xperia play is bad.... but it does have some features a bit out dated...4 eg: the gingerbread os... n the rear cam is 5 mp.... i rather suggest u to buy him d canvas 4 which has jellybean os....along with 1gb ram and 16 gb intrnl memory.....n its also a bit cheaper than xperia play n u can run many high graphic games also the psp games...... and it is much faster

  • perfect !! it is better than the other smratphone which u prefer :D

  • My 15 year old son is hassling me to buy him one for xmas and I just wanted to know if it is worth buying? I wanted to buy him a Lumia 520 Nokia or a Sony Xperia E or even a Htc desire 300. Are any of these phones better then the PLAY? Any comments would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance

  • The mobile phone doesn't support zooming, unlike in other mobile phones: is there any application which supports zooming?

  • How can i download android 4.1 at my Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY?

  • my xperia play has lost its touch what should i do to make it come back i mean it does not respond to touch again ]

  • I would NOT use this phone. It has serious software related issues that prevent it from being useable. If Sony had the guts to make a sequel to this, they would. But they didn't. Switching back to my Note II and getting this phone refunded!

  • Having this phone for 2 year, best phone for playing emulator games, ppsspp gba N64 , superb

  • Hello my name is Vicente. i live in Chile. i am 11 years old. for Christmas this year, I receive an xperia play. What game should I buy first for my xperia play? my favorite games are final fantasy, megaman (megaman 2 is my favorite), super smash bros. I like racing games too like mario kart. I do not like fighter games like mortal kombat. thank you for helping me! -Vicente

  • ive been usin this fone for 2 years now, so let me share u this fone weaknesses. 1.dont ever drop this fone very hard or never drop it at all even if by accident cuz this fone touch screen is very sensitive, or else u would have to change ur digitizer $$$ (digitizer for xperia play won't cause u much as much as samsung though: need to replace digitizer n lcd 1 set.. :-P) 2.when ure typing very fast, there's a lag gap of fonts to load especially when ure using a firefox browser. 3.this fone is not build for browsing the internet longer than 4 hours. i've tested it on firefox browser, the battery runs out very fast on ya. x_x 4.network connection sumtime gets disconnected n reconnect afterward when ure browsing. even though its not always happening, it still vexed me. who wouldn't want a stable connection rite? :-P 5.having ur phone memory on heavy usage (probably below 50mb free of space on mnt) this fone would go into lag mode n when ure forcing it to do multiple things, itll restart. x_x so there u hav it~ ^_^v other than that, this fone is great n a must hav for gamers who loves to play their hd games anywhere anytime playstation styled. (not suitable for games that require bigger space to saved game on mnt such as 'wild blood') this fone is bolted wit stereo speaker (i love the sound of it ^_^ ) n last longer (around 12hours or longer) when playing music. wish there were sum fone tht can top this fone on PlayStation button gaming fone!! Lol~ :-P

  • Bottom screen doesn't work at all. I can't even touch my space bar. But I really enjoyed the games

  • you chould not buy this phone. i have one of these myself and its not very fast, you wont be able to use it for too long, becouse it will get overheated. if you type it wont really catch up and if you've been browsing for too long, it can mess up your typing and it will crash. when it does crash, you need to open the back and you will need to remove the battery (which will be very hot,so be carefull) and then you will need to put the battery back in. (sorry for bad english)

  • Ps1 emulator is PlayStation pocket so you just have to find on Google

  • well this only connects to the playstation and the nokia conects only to the xbox

  • I want to buy this phone but I'm stuck in the middle as I want to buy the Nokia Lumia 620 as well? which one is better? also can both these phones connect to an xbox 360 console? I'm not an phone expert, so that is why I'm asking. Reply back ASAP please.

  • Hello, I got At&t sony xperia play r800at phone few months earlier. It was unlocked and i used it with my network provider with no problem. Unfortunately i have added a pattern lock and forgot the pattern. It was connected with my gmail account which i was using earlier and i do not remember the password either. So i have no way to remove the lock. I read that master reset will wipe the lock pattern and tried to do a master reset by going to the bootloader menu. But phone does not allow me to go there. Please help me to solve my problem.

  • I got one of kijiji and it was $80.00 started having issues with digitizer as it was responding to touch. SONY XPERIA PLAY IS RUBBISH

  • Oh the horror the horror of owning this phone! I actually had to suffer a year with this phone and it is THE WORST smartphone I have ever owned. Sure, the gamepad is awesome, but that is about it with the good stuff. You can't install anything because it only has 400mb of internal storage! That is ridiculous! I literally was able to fit 2 apps on there! Next up the lag. It some thime took a whole minute to load up the launcher. Just imagine if you were trying to get something productive done! The battery life also wasn't that great. It wasn't necessarily terrible, but it could get you through a day if you didn't play any games. Over all, I would not recommend this phone to anybody. Sony Ericsson also lied to us about this phone. They told us we would get ICS, but did we NO!. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!

  • Experia play is a wonderfull mobile with specteculer specifications in gaming but it really have some bugs and its camera is wonderfull but it also old and cannot change android version faaaake u

  • needs to lower the price lol jks it awsome...but some errors

  • This version runs 2.3.3 gingerbread, not 2.3.4 gingerrbread.

  • really old now risky phone to buy preowned as they never lasted long from new without a fault even in the hands of a carefull owner but a really nice device while it lasts i hope sony bring the play 2 out

  • awesome phone, i wish i would upgrade the firmware to 4.1 nice photos, good resolution for NFS and fifa. love it. from here im moving to xperia Z

  • Ironically the best thing to do for games is download emulators like fpse or n64oid because aside from gta3 the xperia optimized games are boring

  • it was great!I loved it but now I wanna change it. It`s really old.

  • this phone is amazing for the first month , but afterwards the UI (user interface/theme) feels cold/dull and boring. loading a custom rom makes it feel amazing again. but since the xperiaplay was released ages ago (in cellphone years) it doesnt really tackle my gaming needs as you feel it should . the single core 1ghz snapdragon isnt enough . but still for an outdated phone it can manage to run most apps high end phones can today. the music playback is really crisp and feels delightful to listen with. the camera says it's (5mp) but it feels like absolute sh1t. there is no zoom function it has stock android ui and feels like sony said ' this is a gaming phone ....but.... lets put a camera on for shits and giggles. the battery life is fairly good it lasts me the day. portablity is wonderful. the touch screen doesnt feel ' snappy ' and it requires pressure from your hand to support the phone from the back in order for it to work 100%. now as for the controls!! this part should be read even if you own one! first when using it the analoge touchpads feel horible but i found a way to make it smooth and easy to use! cut out a screen protector and apply it to them! it works like a charm and i feel the urge of gaming again. last but not least Price. that is the only reason i have purchased one. i live in australia and got one for 250 last year now its cheaper . Most hated thing about it: IT NEEDS JELLYBEAN! or ATLEAST ICS! thanks for reading. :)

  • this phone is rely nice perfect for a man i just bought this phone for my bf......

  • my old phone use to say camera error all the time all we had to do was remove the sd card and restart the device and it usually fix it

  • did u have movie those games to sd card??

  • I have a problem accessing the camera, it has been good but suddenly prompts an error "camera error - cannot connect to camera, How do I take care of this!

  • thnk u boss,i saw a xplay mobile with name of verizon (back side on the flip cover) in india is it works in india, im confused plz can u explain it clearly.thnk

  • Is there anything else like it (that is, an android phone with a gamepad)? For something so special and unique among phones, it's such a shame that this seems like the only one of its kind...

  • DO NOT GET THIS PHONE! My brother and I both got it and they both broke within a month or two. His screen turned grey and just stopped working. My SD card reader and battery holder came loose, so neither stay in. It has NO space on it. I have a 16 Gb sd card and only a few apps and pictures, still it tells me there is no space. I am not happy with this phone. The games are fine though..

  • are there no new games for xplay?can the games of psp be emulated ?how?tnx.pls help im used to my games.are there stil patronizing this kind of fun?pls help

  • Yeah! Sony did us MAKE.BELIEVE that the xperia play will have ICS update, man, lets hope that they can release the official ICS for the ill fated xperia play and since there are many stable roms, i know they can do it!!!

  • Hold the power button until you get the option list, at the bottom should be a take screenshot button.

  • How do you take screen shots with my phone?

  • if you got the phone through verizon, then you have the cdma version which does not have gsm radios onboard so if the network you are switching to doesn't use cdma then you won't get reception so it's best to ask them or look on the internet. this is the phone you have

  • install pc companion, then install flashtool, install flashtool drivers. find a firmware then install it through flashtool. go to xda-developers.com and go to xperia play section and you can find everything there

  • reinstall firmware using pc companion

  • My carrier is verizon. I am switching to net10. I put the net10 sim card into the phone. It has a sim card slot. Can I assume that this is a GSM phone. Will the net10 sim card work? Thanks

  • i hava a problem. i bought this xplay from used phone shop that just dissapered all of a sudden and now i thought i was getting lucky that this xplay was on android 4.0 ICS when all a long it was just ROM version. now i cant do anything much with it. what can i do to get rin of ROM and back to gingerbread so i can use it properly?? pls help

  • since one and half year i got it, i'm not living a day without using web or apk. as sony device, some unuseful apps no removable (but removable with rooting) but still a rom bug (i don't visited sony to know if they fix the problem) which always been present: when wifi is activated of when 3g loses network, some apps are turning "on" (facebook, latitude, maps and others...) and screen and haptic keyboard going uncontrolable, phone opening apps (like web browser or camera...) tip: lock screen off and press one to turn on, and kill many tasks unuseful (at this moment) as possible but keep turned on antiviruses, protect media scanner (don't worry, vitalic apps will automatically re-turn instantanly) xperia pro (that i've got too, hasn't it bug) solid device, it fallen many times these last monthes and no problem (exepted previous which explained) and with android os i got the best part of hi-tech feature: media player, web browsing, videogaming with playstation app and android games apps, and retrogaming using emulators and swiping analog pad. my biggest regret: playstation mobile games purposed is too pooverly! (while emulation is increasing performance and is here to be proud of acquisition)

  • Still a great phone. Shame they never made a successor. Really could have gone places. Still, great phone.

  • its a network company in USA

  • what is verizon ?

  • yes

  • xperia has L and R buttons....hope m not late haahaa

  • Great little phone, Screen could be a little bigger and, CPU a bit faster, but there is overclocking software on the Google play store to sort that, so have mine running at 1.9Ghz, instead of the standard 1Ghz. :) Have found the game pad easy to use although the shoulder pad buttons are a little sensitive. Touch screen is great although have noticed when it's laid flat on it's back the screen becomes unresponsive sometimes. sliding mechanism is built well, it's a good all rounder. The only drawback is OS updates have been stopped due to compatibility issues with the handset. Shame really, with the right software and decent mods, this phone can still pack a good punch with current phones. Full HD on camera isn't supported which to be honest, should've been an option. Overall I'd give it 4.5/5, it has it's faults.. But it always makes people stare when I slide it open to reveal a gamepad and start playing PS classics! :)

  • where do i get ps1 emulator and free games?ty

  • agreed, back it up. but mine did the same thing. i was SO mad. i took the sd card out and plugged it into my pc.... all my pics were still there. i hope you find yours.

  • The best thing I can suggest is for you to backup your files and hard reset your phone - Ensure that your memory card is still good since the pictures is save directly on the micro sd

  • hi i've used se xperia play for a while now. but recently my photos kept disappearing like its been deleted from my phone. and yesterday there were 1k photos in my phone but now its only 518 photos.no one or i didn't even delete it. can anyone help me to find the problems and the solution? thank you so much

  • THANKS A LOT... ^_^ i just wanted the apk files to remain in my xplay so that i can still have those games..

  • yes it has

  • If sony will make Xperia Play 2,then better they put in nVidia Tegra 4 cpu and 4gigs of ram and make it bigger 5inches

  • yes

  • does this phne has the top R n L buttons on top

  • Truly an amazing idea for an android phone... with the PS controls and all, I really love that about the phone. But I would really love it even more if they made an Xperia Play 2 with much better performance, dual/quad core, more RAM, and for goodness sake bigger Internal memory... it is a Gaming phone after all :/

  • after reformat@reinstall firmware those game are still there but all game data will be delete so you need to download all over data again or you can backup game data to pc. by the way you can copy the apk game to pc/open file manager goto internal /system/app

  • please help..... i am planning to reformat the internal memory of my xperia play...my main problem is that if i reformat the internal memory of my xplay will the games "star batallion" "crash bandicot" "bruce lee dragon" and "fifa 10" will also be deleted?...so if i finish formating my phone i wont be having those games anymore?....because those games are not available in android market due to its exclusively for xplay....and i love playing those games....please...please....

  • go here you will find how to

  • someone help me I want to root my device but I don't know how to do it someone to explain to me with details.

  • u can use camera zoom fx he work great on my phone just google it

  • I have owned this cellphone for 9 months now, and, although it delivers what it promises, I haven't had the best experience with it. I let it take a splash, and, even as it wasn't much water (seriously) and I immediately dried it and let it for two days in a jar with calcium cloride crystals, digitizer stopped working. When I took it to the authorized service, it showed corrosion signals on the technician's lab and I lost the warranty due to "humidity", but the digitizer came back working. Some months after, I got a problem with some apps (Strava Cycling, Last.fm) that couldn't write user data, so after resetting the device to factory, things started working again. Last but not least, last week the screen started showing only white noise, unless I slid the device open. Another trip to the lab, and it shows the main flatwire is worn out (plastic is all cracked, and some of the wires too), and it's too expensive to fix it. It's not a bad device, however, it's fragile. So, if you are thinking about buying it or already own it, play it safe with your Play.

  • It looks like a game and a phone it is like a psp go it is nice from the other reviews I have seen it and i am probably going to buy it when I have the money I really want to root it even if you don't know what rooting an android is search on it on google

  • Zooming required hardware not a software,if sony not install that hardware to the xplay camera,so imposible to do zoom

  • There is no such program out there on a non-rooted phone, which has the capability of making the camera zoom work. However, rooting your phone might be beneficial since there are several applications and other android os, which can make your camera zoom on objects. Unfortunatly, those applications which have been shown on youtube are probably fake. I have used Camera zoom ex and other programs but they had the same conclusion, they couldn't make the Xperia play Zoom.

  • is this phone have a rough graphics in real racing 2 like in my xperia mini pro?

  • I have xperia play but I can't find any app make the camera zoom work ?? Could u help me by giving me the name of a app can do that ?

  • You can upgrade it yourself. im on iCS right now.

  • Guys am in zimbabwe any one who can assist me get this 4n

  • Please help me give me a link to download a free games for xperia play .....and thank you guys a lot. ....... This phone rocks

  • This phone is literally stuck to Android 2.3.X (Gingerbread). Sony disn't keep their word and the phone, which was sold as upgradable to Android 4.x (ICS), ended up being abandoned by the manufacturer under a lame excuse, "gamepad will not work as well...". Actually, the phone is a great idea and it works well on "not very demanding" games. Despite that, one must not forget Sony has deceived their customers (as many others previously did; I know) and the fact remains that if you're buying a sony phone... tomorrow it may happen the same to your "upgradable" phone... without any form of compensation. Be warned!

  • Android OS, v2.3.4 is the latest for the xperia play. Xperia neo v is as good as this. Xperia arc has a better camera, 1,4ghz proccesor, fm radio and Hdmi support. Xperia arc is best of these phones, but if you like to play then i reccomend to buy this phone. Also one thing, that xperia play don't have is camera zoom. You can download some program that will zoom. I bought xperia play and i like it, i can play and do other things. Most important is that you can call with it.

  • Pls what is this phone's os upgradeable to? Also, which is better; this phone, xperia arc s, xperia neo v?

  • in reality its a zoos phone.

  • go for cherry moblie flare.....

  • When you buy the phone, it will do all updates...

  • Is this easy to upgrade ?

  • Why this phone still use android market? cannot change to google play?

  • very awesome phone if you are interested in gaming, although a bit heavy and bulky, the phone has old hardware now, coz this phone was released 2 yrs ago, still runs almost all the apps and games very well, I LOVE MY XPERIA PLAY....

  • yes.via custom rom

  • is this fone upgradeable to ics?

  • Did anyone upgrade this to android 4.2, can we upgrade it??

  • If you are out of warranty, check this possibility: One of the most common problems is a damaged cable that connects the slider to the screen. Often it's sold separately for about 20 on eb*y, at least here in Germany.

  • I have used this mobile for morethan a year. It is a wonderful phone and we can get PC like gaming experience. All of a sudden display went bad and am not able to recover it even after walking to service stations. Am not getting the display[blue and white dots are getting displayed]. think before you buy.

  • is this good for xperia play, play games? There is nothing more wonderful than the xperia play? i want to buy xperia play but i need your suggestion.. i want to play game..

  • yes, you can install one of JB custom ROMs, but it will not be very smooth and stable.

  • nope, it wasnt about gamepad buttons, but because XPlay simply got old hardware so ICS on XPlay wouldnt be as smooth and stable as Gingerbread.

  • y sony ericsson is so nice

  • why sony ericsson is so cheap rate?

  • yes it could be upgraded, but the developers claims that some buttons keypad wont work. you can try by watching the site xda developers.

  • hey,can it be upgraded to ICS, if yes then plz help me....

  • By chance, is this Phone somehow upgradeable to Android Jellybean?

  • I don't know if you have 3g in Nigeria, but even if you had great 3g coverage, the xperia play wouldn't be very good at it. 3g reception with this phone is kinda terrible.

  • Yes you can. I am running an ICS rom at the moment. If you want a guide on how to do this, or even help. Feel free to contact me: [email protected]

  • is this phone really support USB OTG function? answer me pls.thanks

  • how do you zoom on this phone's camera?

  • Thanks a lot man,i was about to buy it.

  • is it enough memory for updating OS (i mean android ICS or any other) ?

  • Also for this who just want a portable media player/gaming device without needing phone functionality, I recommend getting the Verizon R800x. You can get refurbished ones for extremely cheap on ebay, under one hundred quid. With all the features it offer its well worth it. Along with the gamepad, it has a decent camera and 720p recording, great sound quality and stereo speakers, the CDMA version have GPS without needing to be activated so you can use offline maps.

  • IMPORTANT: I owned all three version of the Play. I can confirm that the R800i only support the 900/2100 bands therefore it will not work with any 3G in USA. You will need to get the R800at, which if you unlock it will also get 3G on T-Mobile in selected 1900MHz coverage area. Also the R800at bootloader is not officially unlockable by Sony, which mean you won't be able to install custom roms. (There are unofficial method, but its hard to get in contact with the only 2 people who can do it.)

  • You can check Expansys dot com, they ship worldwide, though the price is a bit expensive. I know you can buy it from eBay from Hong Kong sellers too.

  • Affordables at computer village

  • Can u tell me where I can buy the xperia play in nigeria

  • my sony xperia play does not find Airtel network but it does for other service providers in Nigeria. is there anyone out their who has a solution to this problem?

  • hey can anybody tell me that when is the official update of software come for this mobile.......

  • There are 3 new firmwares. 4.1.H.0.23 - This one is the newer version. 4.1.H.0.21 - I guess this one is ICS or JB but most probably ICS. 4.0.2.A.0.79 - Newer Gingerbread.

  • try this link

  • Please from which website can I download games directly unto my xperia play. Pls help me. Where do u download the games from ?

  • Great Phone For The Gamerz............. Excellent Specifications.............. SIMPLY ITS MARVELLOUS.................

  • nice mobile guys......

  • New hope for xperia play owners.

  • hi............ i lik diz fone aft i read diz commentz i love diz fone ..........

  • I found the camera sensor of this device to be very acceptable, its almost as detailed as my Galaxy Nexus and work better under low light too, making it more practical. It just doesn't have touch focus, so you have to hold the shoot button to focus. The video recording have continuous autofocus. Also it has great GPS/GLONASS signal and excellent sound quality. Would have been a perfect device if the CPU/GPU performance wasn't so crappy by today standard.

  • Yes

  • Truly amazing gaming phone

  • IS this phone support Flash Player 10.3? for live browsing video tube sites.

  • awesome phone should buy it perfect gaming, perfect music, nice display, big size only the cam and fat are the problems

  • good phone but fat

  • Don't ! The camera will not work !

  • beauty full mobile

  • Hi,Im Edward Cameron, if you are planning to buy this phone then you shouldn't cause you cant upgrade it to ICS and it also does not have radio, its picture quality is not so good,it is not slim and its android version is only 2.3.4 (Gingerbread).I think you should buy xperia pro.

  • 'works on ALL camera apps including stock works on ICS but dont know on GB' I already mention this. so WE DONT NEED ANY MODDED APP like 'camera mod'.

  • im not talking about zooming, read carefully 1st ok. yes i know there's 'camera mod' at google play, but i'm using scripts that allows all camera apps to recognise L(focus) and R(capture) already tested on Camera ZOOM FX(zoom capable),and even STOCK camera app works like charm on L/R mod. try it be4 any speculation(s) and of course, root is needed to access scripts,no need to change ROM. n more conveiently,no need to use ANY MODDED app, stock is enough.

  • Focus and z0oming is diferent thing Lol!! Btw if you want to change R/L button as camera shutter key,no need change ROM,just search on Googleplay app called cameramod/camera shoulder buttons(xplay) it is Free

  • Focus and z0oming is diferent thing Lol!! Btw if you want to change R/L button as camera shutter key,no need change ROM,just search on Googleplay app called cameramod/camera shoulder buttons(xplay) it is Free

  • well it is possiblewith ORIGINAL xperia play, just need to wait XDA devs to make the mod for now I can focus with L key and capture photos with R key without messing up gamepad scripts works on ALL camera apps including stock works on ICS but dont know on GB thanks to XDA devs, search the mod ad xdadevelopers.com

  • u will need rooted your 2.3.4 xplay unlock your bootloader 4 u to install 4.0.4 then go to xdadevelopers.com,search xperia play. follow instructions from rooting, boot unlock to installing your desired rom, such as Flyme OS,cyanogenmod, modded stock ICS beta 4.0 my favourite is MIUI rom 4.0.4,it can upgrade internal storage to 670MB need some time to get used to,but its worth it.

  • I don't want to disappointing you.get yourself the xperia play and you find no option for zoom camera image or video using volumekey, this is link that answer from sony So If you have xperiaplay that can zoom in stock camera absolutely your xperiaplay is fake.

  • There is no radio

  • Xperia play is a good mobile, speed is better than htc wildfire and google nexus . Camera is outclass

  • Is it have Radio ?

  • Don't do it, i made the mistake myself by buying it So many games have been taken off the compatibility list because of how unstable it is and it can't even update because the new update dosen't support the gaming buttons. Just wait for the next one or get a Galaxy s3 or something.

  • i have buy the this mobile its very good nice it

  • Everybody stop your whining, and check this out Jelly Bean. Nuff said.

  • Fact: We have been deceived and led into buying a phone under false premises. Sony have failed to deliver what had been repeatedly advertised. ICS upgrade was seen by Sony as a strong selling point. That is why they always announced the Xperia lineup would get ICS. That was a clever marketing campaign: advertising today's phones as fully upgradable and compatible with the next OS. Did that work? Apparently, it did. Was that true? Obviously, not! What did Sony do when the time fot upgrading arrive? They simply went back on the given word with a lame excuse and no compensation/alternative plan whatsoever. Are customers supposed to "forgive and forget" the repeated lying and deceival? Let's hope they're not just conformist sheep. No use sony's fanboys and servants keep intoxicating forums and discussion boards everywhere. The truth is plain to see.

  • How can i download ics 4 xplay.. Can download direct from phone or what..

  • I absolutely hate Sony for what they have done to the Xperia PLAY. They said the device would get ice cream sandwich and the sales boosted immensely but some months later they canned the update by saying there were issues. I ACTUALLY TESTED THE ROM and it was fine I could play games like modern combat 3 with no lag although there were the normal frame drops but those you cannot fix unless you modify the game or overclock. Now the problems came with jelly bean which was put on the NEXUS S WHICH IS FROM 2010 and they can't give jelly bean to a better spec'ed android device not to mention it is several months newer. If Sony had done something to make up for this such as upgrading the firmware to a newer jelly bean like the Xperia S but no they have simply abandoned the phone altogether with only 1 android update please reply share this and show your responses. A proud but angry Xperia PLAY owner.

  • you can z0oom by volume up or down in the camera app

  • when u fully use this xplay to its full potential i'm sure u will never buy another phone . .xcept xperia PLAY 2. myself hav MIUI ICS 4.0.4 installed with 10+ HD games u will laugh at someone who hav a fulltouch phone but when gaming, his thumbs covers 30% of phone's screen. this phone is the ultimate timekiller.

  • Also, Is there any place I can get an xperia play for similar prcie that I am getting at Amazon ( $ 230 ) . If I can then that would save me from waiting a month to get it when my friend arrives. Tnx :)

  • Hey, Are u sure its r800i .. Are u using a cdma network of Gsm coz I heard somewhere sony made r800a for Indain and South American gsm markets and r800i for USA and Europe. Can anyone shed light on whats the difference between the two (if any ) and which model is better ? Also I know Its Internal memory is really low , does it really hamper the performance of the phone ? My sensation 4g (which i loved) , was stolen last month so only reason i am getting this fone coz its cheap ( 230$ ) and I love old emultaor games . Although fone's specs are pretty outdated now. But i dont need Ics or Jb or all the bells and whistles so I am ok with Gb as long as games run well. Anyway , do u recommend this phone now taht u have been using it for some time ?

  • I bought my Xperia play last December 2011. I was very eager to own this due to the touchscreen experience that the psp is lacking. Well, I had the best gaming experience of my life then (the wealth of controls: touchscreen, 2 responsive round touchpads!!!, PS keys, gyro sensors) until the flex cable gave in 7 months later (June 2012). I had it in my jacket on my way to work and then my bag slammed on it and from the sound I knew I nearly killed it. It's still on repairs and it's sorely missed. A lot of games I haven't played yet. I'm retiring it once I get a PLAY2 or Android PS Vita phone. I've accidentally dropped it face-down from a height of 2meters about 4 times with no apparent damage on the screen. However, the drops caused the chrome-painted Android keys below the screen to easily lose their shine over time. It takes away some off this beauty but it's nothing to complain of since I usually play in the dark. The screen is not Bravia and thus brighter and better viewing angles than Bravia-certified Xperia phones. I thinks some review sites forget about this benefit from non-Bravia screen. But it's still a pain to use in daylight..dim! The casing is of very high quality piano-black glossy plastic that don't crack. No complaints there. The loudspeaker is very good!! Not that loud but very clear. The video framerate is impressive. The 5MP camera is very good in daylight but suffers from RED-EYE in night mode and slow shutter speed. I still use my Nokia E72 preferrably in photos. But the Play is very good in capturing HD videos. Only complaints: Thick and Heavy. Game deck gets easily scratched by slide mechanism. Gingerbread. I'm not too eager to flash ICS/JB since these might kill the PS controls.

  • i think its a fantastic phone and i personally love it, i just wanna know if it has the potential to play downloaded PSP games(from the playstation store) considering the fact that this came out after the PSP go

  • Im in india, using the r800i. Good phone to get, a crowd pleaser with charming looks. just make sure u get a large memory card to go with it or else u cant have much games and end up failing to use the phone to its full potential. main drawback will be with the phone's internal memory though.

  • i am from india and i use aircel gsm.. i want to know which model of xperia play i should buy? xperia play r8ooi or xperia r8ooa?

  • Hey! , I am thinking of buying Xperia Play from Amazon ... just wanted to know which version would work on Gsm networks in India R800a or R800i or any else ? Also anyone using this in India can check and tell me what is the model no that they are using . Thanks

  • I love this phone, it is very fashionate. Nice

  • beautifull

  • 720p with stereo and continuous focus

  • Its a very good phone love the games now need to buy a bigger SD card for more space got none left 8Gb isant enough for asphalt 7

  • Your phone would need to be unlocked

  • Google if you can root it and upgrade it to jb.But root at own risk

  • Get real football hd,its just like fifa exept its on the phone(I know there may be a fifa for android but I don't think there will be a fifa 13)

  • Maybe you must have it unlock, because maybe its locked to one carrier,if you unlock it,you can use any sim in it,there is unlock tutorials on the internet(google it)but if you struggle then take it to a phone shop(it will cost you),if you unlock a phone it voids the warrenty.if you were unlucky enough to buy a cdma phone, the you must use a cdma network like verizon, vodafone is a gsm network, and if you don't know the difference, just google it.

  • i have brought this phone today second hand from shop ive put my vodafone sim card but it tells me there is no sim in what am i doing wrong

  • can this be upgraded to JB 4.1?

  • ya i know..the phone rocks....hey from where did u get god of war for it??

  • yes

  • Used the phone with care nearly a year, the phone served me really well especially after root and removing the bloatwares, sold it with $240 (19000taka) apprx in Bangladesh. Now planning to buy a new Xperia P with $320 (25600taka) apprx.

  • Will Fifa 13 be released for xperia play

  • is this phone really support usb on the go?

  • can someone please tell me.. what the prize xplay original and local batery in malaysia???

  • fyi- NO ics update for xplay via pc companion etc ..and thats official from sony - read gsmarena news 25may 2012 headlines ..xplay is stuck on 2.3.4 gingerbread and very low poorly functioning internal memory of 400mb and gross RAM 512mb ..read on comments reviews xplay ..Poor internal memory renders xplay nearly usless handset for apps downloading and functionality .. we have a xplay bought under false pretences by SONY as flagship 2011 ! and SONY has ABANDONED XPLAY 24may 2012 -dead duck ! how sad very bad !

  • you must first upgrade your pc companion and then connect your play to pc then only you can upgrade your xperia play

  • I couldn't agree more. We -as consumers - really have to put an end to this and stop acting like gullible robots that will go after anything with the label "NEW" on it... We have to stop letting large corporations take advantage of us, customers.

  • @ SAM & Anonymous: I agree with both of you. Profit over client service/satisfaction. Consumerism and shopping addiction. Always strive for the new(est). That is why lazy/liar sony got away with not abiding the law and breaking their written promise of developing and releasing ICS to this phone. That is how these companies survive and prosper, albeit the very, very poor customer support. On top of it, consumer laws are often poetically well intended, but effectively useless "at the altar" the power of these multinational octopus-like money-making companies. Despite all, resistance and active indignation are NOT useless.

  • Can xplay get ics?? Is the batery so bad..??

  • "...capitalist school of though ..."" u say sam ! BILLIONS capital now comes from banks loans never fully repaid or never repaid at all .. capitalist school of thoughts in MOBILE INDUSTRY == bosses == driven by personal mega salaries and never mind promises made never delivered on updates-customer services == HUMANS == POWER CORRUPTS and absolute power corrupts absolutely never mind WEAK CONSUMERPROTECTONSLAWS..2012 ..SONY and others are still churning out handsets with practically useless internal gross total memory of 512mb --tipo miro etc 2012 .. amazing ..SONY SHOULD BE WORLD LEADERS BUT ALAS ! =CAPITALIST school of thoughts ==money money . cheers sam and others ..

  • that's right. sony has abandoned the play and its users. no profit, no support. that is their motto. they don't care if you're still under contract paying for a phone slashed of its future compability and potential. the very least they could do was updating kernel and adreno gpu drivers, which are ready for months. they simply don't care about the phone anymore. let's face it. it's got nothing to do with the gamepad. if sony wanted to,we would all be playing with our gamepads on ICS for a loing time! i guess that's the capitalist school of thought for you. you may submit to it, you may think there's nothing you can do to change it. just have some integrity and don't defend it!

  • i do have one...but still under gingerbread...no updates..c'mon sony....

  • i will buy this xperia play, does it has video as well?

  • xperia play 2011 sony flagship quietly dropped from ics update by sony on 24may 2012 after 12 months of "planned" update -socalled by sony . xplay struggles even with basic apps downloading and functions with gross inernal memory ram of 512mb -- which registers "NOT SUFFICENT" MEMORY .. TRUTH IS BITTER ..SONY ABANDONED ITS OWN 2011 FLAGSHIP XPLAY and dumped loyal longstanding sony customers ..shame ..

  • Why no latest update ?

  • How loud is d xperia play when using an headphone?

  • Pls how loud is d sony xperia play when using an headphone

  • You're welcome. I'm sorry I haven't been useful... Good luck with your repair. I hope it won't take long and the problem gets definitely fixed. Good luck with your phone!

  • thank you very much. I've tried all of these-done factory reset but still the same.i think its a hardware problem.

  • Are you sure there isn't any programme running in the background that may be draining your battery? Have you installed any new application/game recently that may be the cause of your battery problems? Make sure you haven't got any malware/spyware on your phone, by installing and running any (free) antivirus programme. If all that is useless, you'll have to take back your phone to a shop to have it repaired as it will most probably be a hardware problem inside your phone.

  • thanks. But still need help phone becomes extremely heated in few minutes of charge or standby, the battery then roll back even if charger is conected instead of charging. Some body please help...

  • yea! GC 500

  • I had the same problem. the problem is with your charger. try using a different charger and let me know what happens.

  • Guys.. Can we get enough games and apps for sony play..? If yes where can we get..? And can we get enough themes..? Plz reply...

  • I can see you're upset. Hehheheh! Good luck to us then. SE promised ICS to all except XPlay. Still I dont have the update for Korean Xperia ARC. The service is unspeakable. No word can explain how detestable this company is. Whether its sony or sony ericsson or ericsson, they dont care about Uncle Tom or Juan Dela Cruz or who you might be. They only care about your pockets. Bwahahahahahaha! Invest your money elsewhere, phones depreciate every second.

  • Buy a psp if ur more on portable gaming but if ur more on phone, txting while playing or more on using wifi u should buy xperia play

  • I Suggest that you buy PSP, its because that with PSP you get a better graphic and other things better, but if you look for phone that you could play games without getting lag/slow, try to find a phone with a bigger spec,

  • i'm trying to decide whether to buy a PSP or this, which shud i buy?

  • gsmarena .. very informative news views reviews .. • xperia play showing LOW INTERNAL MEMORY 28MG etc while sd card has 7GB MEMORY SPACE LEFT .. had to reset to factory setting losing all apps music photoes etc .. reloaded some essential apps --internal memory now 83mb .. searched sony xperia play forums and many have same problems .. LEAST SONY UNCARERS CAN DO IS TO RELEASE AN APPS WHICH GIVES OPTION TO USE SDCARD MEMORY FIRST --AS WITH MANY OTHER HANDSETS FROM NON SONY MAKES ..sony fony are you listening ?? sony- donot send in "servants" to abuse and insult ..

  • Hi kifik

  • xperia play bad let down by SONY has made longstanding loyal sony customers worldwide very disappointed with SONY pity !!!..only two major front runners APPLE and SAMSUNG 2012.

  • Are you havoing a laugh? the new xperia line features plenty of gngerbread (2.x.x) phones in the year 2012 and delivers mediocre phones based on an old htc model (the D2). now, if that's superb to you... your bosses at sony must be very proud...

  • plz tell me how to updte android 4.0 plz plz

  • Yes this sony ericsson product is failure. New sony xperia's lineup is superb

  • "The truth behind the XPlay not getting ICS: It's not impossible to port ICS on the XPlay device, as the cost of doing that would be very high and the profit/sales increase non-existant, or very little." That is so true! Major companies desert and abandon customers whenever the money is in and that is shameful. No european laws protect customers from abusive companies. This is not the worst case, but it is typical: release an innovative phone - publicise it as future-proof and then... if it doesn't sell well... just drop it. ICS could function as well with the gamepad as Gingerbread does. Lower specs phones have been upgraded, so the big issue here is: Is Sony willing to make the effort to keep its promise (and not because there is still big money in it)? Unfortunately, the answer is obvious: No. Aony siimply doesn't care enough. Like any lazy kid, sony simply said "Too much trouble. Won't work." And gullible customers, fanboys and employees repeat that key sentence as a mindless herd. A precedent has been created. Don't forget that if we just say 'yes', this excuse will be accepted every time it is used: "It won't work with your hardware." * Actually meaning: "Come and buy us a new phone!" Companies who recur to such schemes should be lawfully punished.

  • Very disappointed in Sony. We were completely let down as they've stpped all support for this - not so long ago - flagship model. Let there be no doubt about it: if it weren't for economic interests, we would already be playing on Android 4.x in our phones. Sony just didn't care. It wasn't profitable and they had many "new" phones being released. Abandoning customers after failing to keep their promises deserves the ill reputation sony's getting. This phone is everywhere on second hand cheap sales as owners are trying to keep uptaded by buying some other brand. If sony's abandoned their promises and neglected their customers, it is definitely time for customers, as myself, to look elsewhere. Due to my experience, I cannot recommend any Sony phone, as the brand is NOT trustworthy. Sony? Keep away from them.

  • Best gaming device because of it's dedicated hardware game pad, but not the best processor for some of the most demanding games...

  • best gaming device of all time..

  • I agree!

  • Mine runs fine . .

  • i am about to buy a new phone and this phone was a strongly recommended option for me , would you help me with your full opinion about it?

  • Google Play, it will give you all thr free/paid games & apps you need ;0)

  • I read on another site that Sony tested the Play on ICS & won't be offering an upgrade as the gameplay becomes unstable. Why does everybody want to upgrade when the phone does EVERYTHING you want! This phone is the BEST EVER!

  • Just got Cm9.1 and it is just awesome if problems with gamepad try

  • hi, i just use this phone for almost a year. btw, i change my phone every year. but if u are looking for a PSP kind of phone. i think u will be disapointed. this is totally way off the psp standard. due to lack of internal memory. if u r looking to download app. this might not be the phone for u. even u wan to dl the game (take it u willing to pay) it will not have sufficient memory for u to dl a lot of game. So inconclusion. this is not a PSP. for gamer. i suggest you will look for another phone or consider PSP Vista.

  • how to download games on this phone?

  • like a duck.....can fly but not high, can swim but not good 0.o

  • i would advise not to get this phone as the slider becomes very loose and scratches the gamepad. it is also very bulky although it is only £150 unlocked. i had this phone from december to june- I then sold it and purchased a samsung galaxy nexus for £300. If ou like to game, then i suggest purchasing a ps vita. they are an amazing product.

  • I think the pone was great for people who enjoy game

  • Xperia Play camera rate is 8/10, it just have 5 Megapixel and not include the SONY BRAVIA ENGINE witch will increase superb colour performance. how ever this phone is still good for capture pitcure.

  • Dear users of this phone , what is the best thing(s) and the worst thing(s) that we could conclude here? do you recommend me to buy it?

  • hi users of this phone, I want to get one of this cell but i want to know about more of it performance; 1)is the camera clear as the galaxy s2? 2)is the internet very fast? 3)is it complex in handling :- bulky or not. Please i need your answers...

  • i you want updates go for cm9 but it is a unique phone and only one with a game pad.i have galaxy s3 but still use it for gaming because touch screen controls suck and ruin the game experience.

  • that's right. sony has abandoned the play and its users. no profit, no support. that is their motto. they don't care if you're still under contract paying for a phone slashed of its future compability and potential. the very least they could do was updating kernel and adreno gpu drivers, which are ready for months. they simply don't care about the phone anymore. let's face it. it's got nothing to do with the gamepad. there's the capitalist school of thought for you. you may submit to it, you may think there's nothing you can do to change it. just have some integrity and don't defend it!

  • This is for game paly mobile ....

  • your right in every way

  • The short answer? Because sony didn't want to! Google wishes everyone to use data plans and wifi connections via 3rd. party programmes, (such as skype) end therefore removed any native support for 3g video calls tha basically ALL phones used to have. That may not affect USA customers, but in Europe and Asia (india, for instance) is terrible as data plans have very restricted data traffic limits and are absurdly expensive. In Europe you end up paying about 5-7.5 Euros for 100MB traffic... per month! Sony went the easy way. So, that also happened with 3G nativive video calls in sony phones. The front camera is there, but UNLIKE LG ans Samsung they didn't care enough to provide native video calling. The same happened with the intro of an FM Radio. It would mean peanuts to the final price... did they do it? No, sire! LG (P970) has got 3g video caling. The galaxy 2 and 3 also allows 3g "native" video calling. That means today's top sellers across Europe provide video calling as a strong selling point. Sony's sales are dwindling and the poor customer support is an essential reason for that. Not many people wish to buy a new model and LOSE functions. For the price the Xplay was introduced in continental europe, most phones provided native video calls. Result? The Xplay didn't sell nearly as much as expected and the poor sales continued, despite sucessive price drops which didn't work. Other example/causes for this evident failure? Any midrange phone has got FM Radio - The Xplay doesn't. Contrarily to ALL that had been announced and publicised, the Xplay will NOT get ICS update. And that capacity of being upgraded was paid for in the phone's retail price. We were paying for a team of developers who would avoid Android defragmentation and keep our phones' market value by keeping them updated with th latest OS. LIES, all Lies! At the end of the day, that actually just reveals how UNimportant customers are to large companies such as sony. That is why customers should keep away from it until the day they learn the lesson and change their attitude!

  • Xperia Play also gets Jelly Bean ROM. This is MIUI Jelly Bean ROM based on CM10.It can also be called as Turbo MIUI Jelly Bean ROM for Xperia Play. It is inspired out of MIUI JB for Galaxy Nexus and it is based on CM10 FXP134.

  • Xperia Play can run CWM 9 stable, which is based on ics perfectly without any lag so Why NOT and official Ics Update. The games can be optimized with gamekeyboad app issue of gaming on ics is fixed.

  • Xperia Play can run CWM 9 stable and Cyanogenmod 10 is in works.

  • it ahas a 19hr max battery life on my regular use. it sucks, compared to my samsung note that takes 3-4 days to drain the bat.

  • No worries. I hope you don't lose any sleep over this issue. I know I won't.

  • I don't care whoever you are. I am not MR. DIRECT SPEAK and I'm not speaking on behalf of MR. DIRECT SPEAK. I'm terribly disappointed with Sony/SE. I have my Xperia Arc for ages but I haven't got the promised ICS update. Now, how about that? As I said, they're fast in terms of false advertisement but when it comes to customer support, they're second to none. I just want my update. Here's my opinion to Xplay. If you can make it run on Gingerbread which is Android, why can you not run it on any Android OS? Might just not work? So why did it work on Gingerbread in the first place? Oh come on! Don't f**k me with your answers.

  • what is the disadvantages of this phone?

  • Do you even know what the word manners means? You are the one getting violently upset over an update that for many phones does not work well at all. Sony did say that they were going to release an update for the phone and then backed off because it may not work. If the update was released and your phone was not working then you would be crying about that too. By the way some of your comments still don't make sense to me.

  • if I buy an0ther ph0ne i'll n0t sell my xperia play. .l0ve it vry much. .

  • same to u x2222 ..now go n cry ..xperiaplay upset owners -many thousands can teach u some basic manners for comments ..

  • vaishnava -- read comments of many who feel deceived by sony -- ur opinion is urs --sony PERCEIVED TO HAVE cheated- deceived with false excuses on xperiaplay NO UPGRADE == NO NEW ICS APPS NO GOOGLE CHROME ON XPLAY .

  • Get over it. Do you really want a software update that many are saying is rubbish? Why should Sony apologise? Maybe the fact that they backed away from the Play getting the ICS update was a good decision. If the only reason you bought an Xperia Play was because you wanted an update, you are wasting your life on such a petty matter.

  • no video call for xperia play..??

  • Sony is completely trustworthy

  • Bye Bye Xperia Play, you were a good companion in my moments of boredom, Hello Samsung G-Note, hopefully you'll take up where Xplay left off. I thank you.

  • same here

  • I have had this phone for about a year now. and i am very disappointed in the lack of interest sony take into this phone, i live in the middle east and the ps pocket does not work. i am limited to 5 games on my phone if more it will say "no storage space" and the constant lag i get from the phone. i have grown bored of the phone and havent used the gamepad for months now. i truly regret that i bought this phone. and when they said no ics i just got furious for i have been waiting for it for months now. hoping for an upgrade. im throwing away this phone or use it for tests and buy an htc one x instead.

  • WHY SUCH LONG WINDED speech .. u love sony ..so u do .. many feel deceived by sony fony -thats a harsh fact ..and u donot run sony business we r sure .. if u r a self appointed sony tout -- sorry 4 u .. btw- I have several retired old sony handsets -oldest being 15yrs old .. no more sony fony ..unless sony publically apologises and sony tell the truth about WHY NOT ICS FOR XPALY AS PROMISED INTIL 23May 2012 by sony ...pathetic excuses shame sony --world corp.-world leader in tech.

  • Shameful! "We can confirm that there will be no compensation offered to Sony Ericsson Xperia Play owners as a result of this cancellation, all we can do is aplogise for any inconvenience you may experienced." This is the answer from sony after having sold the Xplay as an ICS phone. And THAT is the main problem: as a reputed company, sony's developers and marketeers knew exactly how important ICS was in selling a brand new phone wih an innovative gamepad. Every sensible customer would ask: "Is this worth the price? Has it got any future?" As the phone was expensive and the gamepad was supposed to be more than a temporal marketing gimmick, promising ICS upgrade was a definitive advantage and a strong selling point. Sony knew upgrading the Xperia Play would increase its life, its compability and, thus, increase its value and sales. And that was taken for granted all along. It was not something people imagined r wishe... It was promised at the buying moment! No one - in good faith - doubted this phone would be upgradable to Android 4.0. But as sales plumbered, Sony released the Vita console and simply lost interest in a phone that wasn't profitable enough. They simply broke their promise and denied what had always been announced. Would the Xperia have sold as it did if the ICS upgrade wasn't taken for granted? Consumers have every right to feel deceived. The Xperia Play was meant to get ICS, its price reflected that. And, in order to keep selling, Sony continued reporting it would all be fixed, and their developers were working to get customers the best gaming experience. Someone with coroporate responsibilities has lied, has deceived thousands of buyers from all over the world. How will consumers feel when new games (such as "Broken Sword") will be only available to ICS as minimum requirement? Sony only cared abut aking more and more money and deserted the phone because it wasn't profitable enough. If they wanted to, we would already be playing on Android 4.x! There is no doubt about that!

  • Sony's rationale for canning the ICS for the Xperia PLAY was performance issues with games. If this was true,If this was indeed to be believed, then one has to wonder why Sony hasn't released the updated Adreno 205 driver. The driver update was released by Qualcomm on the 30th of December at the end of LAST YEAR. The update is believed to give a performance increase of up-to 1.5x or even 2x in some cases depending on phone and app. This is just one in a number of very simple measures that Sony could but haven't taken to bring us a stable ICS to the Xperia PLAY. Another is the clock speed/frequency. It is currently clocked to a measly 1Ghz while it can be safely clocked to as high a frequency as 1.9Ghz, so why not clock it to a still very stable 1.4Ghz, would this not increase performance to a sufficient enough level? Alas, this brings me back to my earlier criticisms of Sony's dev team and their utter incompetence, or at best, lack of giving a damn for supporting older devices. I was foolish to expect better from Sony, a lesson well learnt indeed.

  • Forget about the gamepad guys this phone has only single core processor So if you want play games just buy samsung galaxy s2 and ps3 controller.

  • I say forget ics if you own a Play, the play works perfectly well the way it is. if your desperate for ics get an ics compatible phone and buy a bluetooth controller!! Forget the new games on the android market and go back to the old school where games were written well, instead of trying to showcase a device's capabilities with no heart. alot of people are overlooking the PLAY's emulation capabilities. i have fspe (playstation 1 emulator) installed on my play and all of the roms (that i own legally on disk i might add!!) run perfectly well. the game pad works perfect and you get the same joy out of playing timeless titles like ff7, metal gear solid and soul blade......etc etc as you did when they were first released. Guys, use your heads. don't be a loser and try to compete with the next person with the latest handset/os, just be happy with what you have! p.s can't blame sony for trying to run a business!!

  • Official fw, not CFW.

  • how to download the game?? when i tried to download it,it always say this item isn't available at your country. please help me

  • i have a question for all xperia play users.how to download the games? when i try to download the game it say this item isnt available in your country. please help me

  • And i dont mean UI or BETA versions or any of that sH$#T!,, i mean the real thing! the real ICS! i didnt think it was real>> settings> about phone> and there it was 4.0.1,, i dont care if its fake or SH#@T!,, ALL i know that it is way diffrent than that of Gingerbread 2.3.4,, very cool experience ,, i dont know what they did,, SO Once again, i dont know what you guys are talking about,, hehehehehe,, yahooooow!

  • Im here in the Philippines,, i took my PLAY to a popular mall here called "Greenhills", theyr like miracle workers when it comes to mobile devices [THEY CAN DO ANYTHING], Anyways, for some reason, the smart assess over thr wr able to put my XPLAY on ICS!!! its great!! ALL GAMES WORK FINE// 3 now still NOW problem nor glitches!,, so I dont know what u guys are talking about,,, bwhahahahahahahah I LOVE YOU XPLAY!

  • To all the Xperia Play users, Sony didn't release ICS for this phone and I am also frustrated about it... Well there's something else, try this mod its Xperia S UI for Xperia play this mod got tons of features! Like mobile bravia engine... This mod requires root and works with locked bootloader... MUST TRY! After I applied this mod I am happy with my Xperia Play... :-D Be sure to remove Useless apps and bloatware that u need...

  • sonyfony did NOT relesse any update over 234 gingerbread for xplay -- anywhere in the world -as far as we know even tough sonyfony promised upto 23may 2012 in all emails to us that ics update for xplay was due very soon .. on 24may 2012 sonyfony quietly omitted xplay from update list .. SONYFONY IS SLY ..

  • In brazil the phone do not received the update for android 2.3.4!!

  • that's right. sony has abandoned the play and its users. no profit, no support. that is their motto. they don't care if you're still under contract paying for a phone slashed of its future compability and potential. the very least they could do was updating kernel and adreno gpu drivers, which are ready for months. they simply don't care about the phone anymore. let's face it. it's got nothing to do with the gamepad. there's capitalism thought for you. you may submit to it, you may think there's nothing you can do to change it. just have some integrity and don't defend it!

  • Very disappointed with Sony. We were completely let down as they've stpped all support for this - not so long ago - flagship model.

  • S- STOP calling other commmentors MOANERS-U R ARROGANT AND IGNORANT .. if u like xperiaplay so much -buy 100 and give to ur neighbours as xmas presents .. others posters have genuine experinces and views .. STOP TALKING NONSENSE ABOUT OTHER POSTERS . learn some basic manners . ITS UPTO sony to be truthful with sony customers --sony must never be SLY SONY FONY ..or indeed any other handset makers or service providers .. this 2012.

  • P.s Again for all the moaners u cud go to the great dev site which prob has ics available for this fone and theres kernels that support bravia enhancement technology for play aswell. I have not done this as I believe its good the way it is. My opinion Ics wud slow the fone down, even the original i9000 didnt get ics and the common factor 512 ram.

  • Quite a few games can now be downloaded from the playstation store. Although they are ps1 games hopefully psp and ps2 releases will appear soon.

  • Let's not forget that when we bought our phones we were assured it would get the ICS upgradeand we did PAY for it. Missing ou on ICS, we'll be missing out on all new, upcoming games, whether they could be played via gamepad or not. Sony has shamelessly abandoned this phone, presenting a shallow excuse and forgetting all that had repeatedly advertised. They know that "where there's a will, there is a way!" It is important that customers all over the world get to know what a company like sony has done. They are not trustworthy. Sony has lied and deceived all those who've bought this phone. I hope sony won't get away with it. There should be no impunity when large companies lie and deceive their customers. I'm sure this is not the worst case and it won't be the last one, but it is typical: release an innovative phone - publicise it as future-proof and then... if it doesn't sell well... just drop it.

  • i agree with u.

  • This is a horrible phone. Camera is amazing. Do not get this phone if you are not a gamer. All my home screen buttons are shot, it freezes constantly, glitches, "force close" popups. I have had this phone for 3 months.

  • Please read latest international articles this week -search via google- on ANDROID GNGERBREAD ICS AND JELLYBEAN .. clearly say gingerbread 2.3.4 (xperia play) 2 years behind old outdated but updatable to ICS if makers (like sony ) want to update 234 to ics 4.0.3. GOOGLE NEXUS S older than xperiaplay has been updated to JELLYBEAN 4.1.1 SUCCESSFULLY by google ..england saying ==will==way .. simple ..and sonytrollers fanboys still dancing on their heads ..

  • I had a samsung wave before and just got the xperia play a month ago and all i can say is that its a great device...ok its tru sony wont support it much and its got no radio but then, its a gaming fone and it plays PS1 games flawlessly and also, u can play all the other games nicely with that gamepad and thats wt this phone is built for. Even the sound quality is good with my skullcandy headphones. Screen quality is not that impressive but i guess thats cuz m comparing with Super-AMOLED..but still its OK. So, i have no regrets with my purchase. If i wanted a snazzy phone, i culdve got the Arc S or the Sola. To all those hardocre gamers who just want a hand held console with a phone, go for this. If you want all the updates and snazzy stuff, see something else.

  • i had this phone but sold it knowing sony, had an x8 and xperia mini pro, sony has mislead about alot of products, ps3 mobile phones and vita, the vita is cheaper than the xplay here, stop supporting companies that dont support you, buy a samsung or google phone.

  • What I really Like about the phone is its own uniqueness compare to other phones, some phones do look like the same and sometimes u don't see differences unless You use it,this phone is an exeptional, hope Sony will able to come up w/ same phone with upgraded everything to compete w/ the new phones coming out these days.Just don't mislead customers again, coz, its really frustrating.

  • i know we are looking forward on getting good phones, its my opinion not yours,so what r u implying?if u dnt like Sony as a Company then go somewhere else.if u don't want to buy there products then do so.Its ur money that u will be spending anyway.

  • SONY FONY has just eaten its words on some updates but not xperiaplay ..if xplay customers keep the pressure up then may be xplay shall live bit longer ..lets rock and make sony fony twist again ..

  • Nice and very true information thanks gsmarena . I bought this xperia play and enjoying its great feature.SE's mobile is the best gadget .its true.my k810i is active with 7 years no problem atall it give me ! Thank you gsmarena

  • carrie == issue is not or be content .. if world follows ur policy then there shall be no progress made . issue is sony dishonest excuses and betrayals of life long sony customers and sony sly announcements --sony ought to be honest upfront and decent as worlds major corp. sony customers relations are appalling disgrace .sony are expected to be world leaders -not world cheaters ...

  • Well, amidst of all the trolls, the phn is still a nice phn,i still enjoy playing games on it,there are so many ways to discover the phones potential and maximize the advancement of it,what's the use of complaining? The phone was already bought and already used, its up to you to buy a new phone or sell ur Xperia PLAY.It just comes along w/ the saying be Contented w/ what you have.

  • why xperia play don't have vido call...???

  • ICS means a phone is "Future-Proof". It means games will keep on being developed, programmes will mantain theiir compability and your phone won't get outdated or obsolete so soon. Furthermore, ICS is a plus when it comes to selling your phone. If its OS is updated, your phone is worth more. It is plain to see, customers were deceived and this phone was literally abandoned as it ended up not selling as expected and Sony turned away its attention to the PSVita console which is also able to function as a phone. Currently, sony keeps releasing clone-like phones on an almost daily basis, publicising they will all be "upgradable" to ICS. And - presumably - people keep on buying them... The Xplay can't handle ICS? Don't lie! "A lie told often enough becomes the truth." Customers refuse to believe so! Furthermore, as more and more games start having ICS (or even JellyBean in the near future) as "Minimum Requirement" we will all understand and feel how deeply hurt/harmed we've been by sony's big lie. Announcing ICS from the beginning granted us a future for our phone, it was meant to fight fragmentation and it gave customers the reassuring feeling they'd have an updated phone for quite some time. Having lied and deceived al those who've bought the Play, sony has caused them harm. But, at then end of the day sony will must feel it has harmed itsef, its reputation and its profits.

  • Arc-why not ask sony why sony promised ics update for xperia play until 23may 2012 and then quietly dropped xperia play from ics update list !!!! Arc-u r asking why updates needed -- do u understand what update means ?thats the top line ..in answer to ur bottomline ..

  • maybe it can't take too MUCH of a beating

  • XPERIAPLAY improved version ??NAA ! news just in all sony 2011 NO JELLYBEAN .. and only 1-2 possibly 2012 versions for JB..XPERIAPLAY killed deadduck by SONY. how wonderful !!! can SONY make honest announcements publically please ???

  • Hopefully Xperia Play will have improved version soon so that Sony's reputation will be acclaimed.

  • CAN ANYBODY ANSWER ME? Why do we need a software upgrade? This is the bottom line.

  • the phone is over all good and tough takes a beating but after my first year of having it problems appeared like crazy first i couldn't use my face camera then i couldn't use the ear piece so i could only use speaker phone and headphones then the screen would start to flicker with the slightest slide of the game pad and now the screen wont even illuminate and when it does some sot of glitch happens cant text without it glitching or it completely goes upside down

  • PG thou speaketh the truth but then we customers are games for handsetsmakers and network carriers HARDSELL and CUSTOMERS LAWS are very soft .. and sony maketh annoucements via blogs ! why not a clean public news release ?

  • The Playstation Store (previously known as Playstation Suite ) app is now up and running and I can confirm( for the UK at least), that it is now possible to download a small selection of games such as Kurushi Final, Twisted Metal, Tekken 1 & 2 and a few others. Just google search for the playstation store apk for android. Your Xperia Play needs to have at least Gingerbread 2.3.4.

  • After sony's unlawful example, other unscrupulous companies will follow. That is why boycotting sony and other such unworthy companies is so important. It's the only defense customers actually have and it is quite simple to use. Let's not buy anything from companies that use false advertising to increase prices / profits and do not keep their advertised word, nor care about / respect their customers.

  • Whoever bought this phone should get a compensation fee for having been lied to and victim of false advertising. being aware of that sony is already preparing their future customers. Just take a look at their new messages: "Sony has revealed that the Xperia arc S and Xperia mini pro won't be getting Jelly Bean. This is coming from John Cooper, UK Product Manager for Sony Mobile, and while he didnt say anything about other models, they all use the same chipset (with the arc S using an overclocked version). This means it's more than likely that the entire 2011 lineup will be missing out on the Android 4.1 JB fun." The Xperia Play should have gotten ICS if sony's devs weren't so lazy and incompetent and sony's managers hadn't decided it simply wasn't profitable! Selling gingerbread phones at their release in 2012 is a bad sign enough. beware of "upgrading promises". Thse of us who bought the Play on false promises and official advertisements know what it feels like being betrayed and deceived after spending their money and trusting a unworthy company like these. worse still: sony has set a precedent that has gone unpunished, so other immoral brands/companiesare going to follow it. Beware!

  • The phone undoubtedly has excellent design. Most games are much better when played on this device. However, compared to the other high performance phones, I feel we could have used a little more internal memory than the measly 350MB available. That is probably the main reason why ICS doesnt run too well on this phone. Apart from that, it meets all my needs. I hope there is a PLAY 2; preferably with as much power as a PSP.. :)

  • Jellybean has only just come out and you expect every handset realeased to have it. Just because phones are still being released without it does not mean thety are crap. Samsung are still releasing phones with ics, so are lg, motorola etc. BTW the Play is not quite dead yet as you can dowload the new Sony Play store for it ;) Give it a few months and the new update will be anounced I will say one thing I do not like about Sony Ericsson phone is the build quality.

  • that's because there's still games that have issue when running on ics (there's official statement from sony regarding this matter). if you look at other 2011 xperia devices, all of them have received ics update. so kudos to sony.

  • aaaaaaaa

  • Gonna keep it short , no ics is a pain but I don't wan't a barely competent update so sony done the right thing. My problem is that sony has done fuck all with playstation pocket and still has the same 10.games since launch leaving people to.rely on andriod for gaming just a joke! And really the play needed to be dual core 1.2ghz to have the tech to live up to what it should of been an inspirational gaming phone that made mobile gaming a feasible option, not merely a decent smartphone that is useful for basic emualators.

  • A Sony troll ! Don't think so ! Kids prefer games = crap ! I am simply stating that the Play is a superb Android/gaming device...as long as you get it cheap enough. Just because they won't update the Play to ICS, does not mean it's the end of the world. The Play runs fine without it ! The Xperia Play would not really benefit from ICS. I had the Xperia Arc S which did not run as smooth on ICS as it did on GB, and that was overclocked to 1.5ghz. ICS can also eat up more ram.

  • this phone is on sale EVERYWHERE! no one s buying it any more and sony's losses have proven it. they're still releasing android 2.x.x gb phones when there are jellybean updates rolling @ other brands. in these times, it's actually pretty stupid to buy a sony android unless you get it really cheap. you know that they're crap. they know they're selling crap phones.

  • Abandoned after paying a lot of money for a presumed state of the art phone. A phone that was meant to change the way we see and play games on phones... ALL LIES! Sony abandoned this phone and still keeps releasing Gingerbread phones on the 2nd half of 2012 as if it were normal and promising future updates. We too were promised future updates. We too were promised new and better games thanks to ICS. Sony is unworthy of our money, but still people keep trolling and fanboys keep saying maybe "next time" sony will tell the truth... Avoid sony phones at all costs. After I finish paying my contract, I'll be one of the many trying to sell my phone... and losing money on the process. How can you still buy Gingerbread phones in August 2012 and believe they won't do the same as they did to Xperia Play owners? How many more times will they trick and deceive consumers? How longer will consumers keep trusting sony???

  • what a sony troll ! fullmarks ! o dear ! have a nice play ! kids prefer games ? when not get a gamespad ? tell gsmarena how u get on ..dont forget ..

  • ...athough, the only saving grace for the xperia play for the time being is the psx emulator (there is a really good one still on google play). at least until playstation mobile comes to the play...

  • Gone back to my xperia play after using some newer handsets like the galaxy note. Although I do miss having ics, the play should not be overlooked even if it wont be getting ics. This is a great phone and the playstation controls are great if you are into games. Better still you can pick this phone up for much less. You can still get this in phones4u for about £170 unlocked ;)

  • we feel xperiaplay --badly let down by SONY should be closed chapter now ..so STOP TROLLERS ..GOOGLE has UPDATED UPGRADED with jellybeans 4.1.1 for modern performances EVEN NEXUS S-- older than XPERIAPLAY ..SONY excuses are pathetic ..and SONY has offered not even a word of sympathy to longstanding loyal customers like diret speak x 30yrs sony customer !.. technology keeps moving on despite corporate sleaze greed deceptions excuses ..thank the technicians and scientists and GOD DIVINE LIGHT ..

  • its the most coolest mobile ever sony...... i luvthis mobile

  • mr tech -- r u sony tout ? seems so .. we have a choice of several non sony handsets .. sony deceived loyal xplay customers ..amazing u self styled mr tech still touting xplay-abandoned by sony without any support !!!!

  • chose XPERIA PLAY if available ./.. dual core dosen't mean best ... its just a additional core on the chipset to make it slightly faster ... and if gaming isn't u'r first priority u have choicess go for "U"

  • why is it already no stocks in the market? and which is excelent xperia play or xperia u,tnx 4 d help in advnce

  • I just bought my XPlay and this is why. I can now play older games such as Crash Bandicoot or Tekken 3 with no problem of controls. I understand why is everyone upset about ICS, but there are web-sites that optimize games for XPlay. If you have Xplay Search those sites and it I hope it will serve you as a some-what consolation. Yes I also feel tricked, but the damage is done. After all you get, what you get.

  • Guys if you feel that you've been betrayed. Please stop complaining. I myself is sick and tired of my Arc not getting the ICS yet. We've got more than 7 major choices to choose from. Lets start of. a. nokia b. lg c. samsung d. apple e. motorola f. blackberry g. htc Bye Sony! There will be no next time.

  • Yup, mine got broken a couple weeks a go. Now it still in Sony SC.

  • no, the only way is make another firmware that feel so official.

  • Very Disappointed with Sony Ericsson company The Touch Screen is very easy broken on the side of sceen

  • i was thinking of getting this one since it is a midrange priced phone for gaming. now, knowing that it wont get ICS. im thinking of getting htc instead...

  • Most of the Xplay buyers did so under false premises. Sony broke their promise, lied and deceived their customers, selling a high-priced flagship as a phone with a future, guaranteeing, promising and assuring repeatedly this phone would get ICS. Months after, it simply abandoned the phone, no ICS, no Gingerbread upgrades, not even a kernel or a GPU drivers' update. As this shameful, despicable attitude went by without legal any punishment, other brands feel free to also betray their customers and follow sony's immoral (and illegal???) attitude. The only way to stop this tide of lies is to boycott these deceitful companies and stop buying their products. Sony's shameful attitude must not go unpunished. To stop buying sony phones(or htc's, which have done the same) is easy, as there are plenty of other brands to choose from. Just try to avoid another sony phone and tell you friends and relatives why. Let them know what sony what they did. How they behave after getting their customers' money. Mouth-to-ear is also a method of education for customers worldwide.

  • XPERIA PLAY promises dishonoured by SONY .. seems now becoming epidemic of corporate false promises cheats and getting away making false excuses .. FALSE PROMISES false excuses EPIDEMIC --swines flu -- now affecting some windows and more android phones --different makes different networks AND NOTHING CUSTOMERS CAN DO ... GSM ARENA is there A LEGAL VACCINE to protect customers from corporates -- SWINES FLU ??? LIES DECEPTIONS BAD SERVICES ARROGANCES ??

  • Since Sony Xperia Play is not getting official ICS any ICS baed ROm which is stable would add to the functionality. here's one reliable ROM from CM, CM9 RC1:

  • knowing now wouldnt get ICS, the price must cut by 50%

  • I want ice cream sandwich. I want play n ice cream sandwich.

  • errr if you want your screen to light up try GOSMS it has the option on lighting up your screen when a message is receive

  • Very disappointed with Sony. We were completely let down as they've stpped all support for this - not so long ago - flagship model. Abandoning customers after failing to keep their promises deserves the ill reputation sony's getting. This phone is everywhere on second hand cheap sales as owners are trying to keep uptaded by buying some other brand. Due to my experience, I cannot recommend any Sony phone, as the brand is NOT trustworthy. Sony? Keep away from them.

  • Hi All! I Want to Buy it buy I want to know more. Can it Play Fruit Ninja? Can it play game touch screen such as Fishing Diary... When we slide off on game can we sill use touch screen? When i watch clips on youtube all gaming are use the side slice I just hope that it can also use touch to play. Kind Regard

  • dude...as far as i know...no smartphone ever light up your screen when recieveing sms or any other TEXT message:P it only lights up the screen when you recieve phonecalls:D or you unlock the phone...:D or whatever..

  • You want ics see this

  • Normal

  • Hi guys! Kindly solve for X. When receiving sms/text messages my phone only notifies me with a ring/vibration, it doesn't flash/light-up on the screen when receiving, is it only me with this problem? Kind regards.

  • Hey guys! We have ourselves a developer who can provide the updates! Again, please stop making claims you're not sure of. We're already saddened and maddened about the poor customer support of this company. Don't aggravate making yourself as a chopping board about the ICS discussion. I'm terribly disappointed with Sony Ericsson as I don't have the ICS update for my ARC yet. Hey Sony! I'm waiting for centuries.

  • 1st time-self claimed 15yrs old--uk laws forbid a 15yrs old kid buying expensive products like SONYEXPERIAplay without parental consent-SO DO GET PARENTAL ADVICE and permisiion-suggestion- get a good gamer for home -get a good android ICS or jellybeans UNLOCKED/ unlockable mobile phone with UNLIMITED DATA PAYG SIM like£10 MONTHLY GIFFGAFF OR 3GPHONES UK £15 MONBTHLY sim. shop around under parental supervision.

  • ist time -15yrs old kid u say -- buy sonyplay if u want to ..but .. get parents permission 1st.. good advice ..and do learn to respect different views opinions ..now sony might send u a free xperiaplay . wait n see ..

  • so whats so great about the ICS?that you are so disappointed and so angry on Sony?Don't you say that because it won't not support future games that on the ICS???im planning to buy this phone cause it has a mid-ranged price and great for "GAMING",so will it support future games???and it says that the Amazing Spiderman is not compatible with the PLAY,is this the start of"NOT HAVING ICS IN PLAY" or GAMELOFT is just optimizing the game for the play????I'm 15 and i can only afford phone at this price,do you have any great phone(gaming) at this price you will suggest? TYVM in advance ^_^.

  • God god phone the bestever

  • ICS means a phone is "Future-Proof". It means games will keep on being developed, programmes will mantain theiir compability and your phone won't get outdated or obsolete so soon. Furthermore, ICS is a plus when it comes to selling your phone. If its OS is updated, your phone is worth more. It is plain to see, customers were deceived and this phone was literally abandoned as it ended up not selling as expected and Sony switched its attention to the PSVita console which is also able to function as a phone. Let's not be naïve: sony didn't just wake up one sunny morning and discovered the gamepad could be made compatible with Ginerbread games, but not with ICS'. They abandoned this phone as it wasn't profitable enough. Customers? Why care about them? Their money's already in. And still sony releases clone-like phones on an almost daily basis, publicising they are all "upgradable" to ICS. And - presumably - people keep on buying them... The Xplay can't handle ICS? Don't lie! "A lie told often enough becomes the truth." Customers refuse to believe so!

  • JAYANT -- u r wrong !!! no offcial ics upgrade for xperiaplay ..and DONT TRY BETA unless u r a developer -read GSMARNA ADVICE..whats ur GAME ? SONY FAN BOY ?

  • it is really true

  • upgrade to v4.0 is available

  • the problem in this xperia play NO PROTECTION (NO Scratch-resistant GLASS)

  • xplay on 2.3.4 gingerbread -- cannot have several modern apps like google chrome etc .. sony is perceived as being not honest in its communications and false promises and false claims ...

  • i dont know why people here are so eager to discuss about ICS update. im not xplay user, im using xperia mini pro. ICS update is available for my phone but im not interested to update it. because gingerbread is just enough for me, its perfect while it can cover all i needed. so, just look at what we need, not what people said. P.S : im not from SONY and i do not get a paid from SONY to saying this.

  • Why don't you use your head instead!? It's their problem giving themselves a problem. If they didnt foresee it as a problem, are they dumb? Are you saying that every XPLAY is stucked to its OS every time they make one? Lets bet on this fanboy. Sony is going to make another XPLAY in the future in any Android platform.

  • As more and more games start having ICS (or even JellyBean) as "Minimum Requirement" we will all understand and feel how deeply hurt/harmed we've been by sony's big lie. Announcing ICS from the beginning granted us a future for our phone, it fought fragmentation and it gave customers the reassuring feeling they'd have an updated phone for quite some time. Having lied and deceived al those who've bought the Play, sony has caused them harm. But, at then end of the day sony will must feel it has harmed itsef, its reputation and its profits.

  • In my opinion I think that we should spam sony with emails getting them to give this phone ics they would see how much people want it. They could then also advertise it as a phone that would get ics there increasing sales profits. By doing this thew would be happy and we would be haapy. Just saying.

  • the reason i buy this phone was when i go out and i gots nun to do i play sme games on it and its awesome ..i paid alot to get it and i will not talk bad bout it its the only phone out thee with a game padand its awesome

  • ICS isn't that good I tried it on my xperia with the official ICS Rom beta if u install more apps the gaming performance gets slow, Gingerbread is more stable... Sony did a good thing not releasing ICS for Xperia play, or the game performance would be dead slow... the spec of this phone and other 2011 xperia phone aren't optimized for ICS... The best thing u could do is porting Xperia S gingerbread theme and Mobile Bravia Engine to ur xperia play ROOT IS REQUIRED, U don't need to have Bootloader unlocked, before proceeding be sure to have a Nand backup. follow this link- After rooting be sure to remove those crap Bloatwares... Bloatwares slows down the phone

  • SONY FONY has been arrogant .. now others are doing sony deceptions already .. WE HOPE SONY FONY GETS SHARP LESSONS for betrayals

  • that's right. sony has abandoned the play and its users. no profit, no support. that is their motto. the very least they could do was updating kernel and adreno gpu drivers, which are ready for months. they simply don't care about the phone anymore. let's face it. it's got nothing to do with the gamepad. there's capitalist thought for you. you may submit to it, you may think there's nothing you can do to change it. just have some integrity and don't defend it!

  • Use your heads people. Other phones are easy to update because you can just slap the update on the older version. No other phone has playstation games in single-core. Think how hard it is to optimize a heavy playstation os to run on heavy ics os and make it run in one core.

If this is indeed to be believed, then one has to wonder why Sony hasn't released the updated Adreno 205 driver. • I honestly don't think Sony is evil for not wanting to upgrade this phone. At least they tried, look at the Droid 3, that has waaay better specs than this phone and Motorola just flat out said they won't be upgrading it.

  • Thats true indeed! Make that double. Do you get the point now Fanboy? Just enjoy your freakin' Xplay OPTIMISE its old boring games in the future. Enjoy the bread! Or should I need a translator?

  • That is true. Missing ou on ICS, we'll be missing out on all new, upcoming games, whether they could be played via gamepad or not. Sony has shamelessly abandoned this phone, presenting a shallow excuse and forgetting all that had repeatedly advertised. I, for one, will not buy sony products. Plenty of options are available and no way I'm giving them any more of my hard-earned money. It is important that customers all over the world get to know what a company like sony has done. They are not trustworthy. Sony has lied and deceived all those who've bought this phone. I hope sony won't get away with it. There should be no impunity when large companies lie and deceive their customers.

  • ICS is vital for any phone as it is the OS of the future. When we bought our phones we were assured it would get the ICS upgrade. Now? Games such as "Broken Sword: Director's Cut" are dtarting to be released having ICS as minimum OS. Result: The XPlay will be left out of all future games which will require Android 4.x Sony has lied and deceived consumers worldwide. This phone has all the required specs and hardware to get ICS, sony just couldn't bother... Because of the gamepad, it would require extra work... too much, in sony's opinion. Too bad for us, deceived consumers, too bad for sony's reputation as we will not be silent. A promise has been broken. A lie is a lie. It won't be forgotten!

  • annonymous u again foulmouther ..dude !!!!! is sony paying you well ?? dude !!!!!!

  • ICS was a great advantage for this phone. That is why - from its launch - sony always publicised and announced this phone would get ICS. Much money has been spent advertising it and that has granted many sales and much (undeserved) profit for this phone. With this phoney excuse, sony has proven unworthy of trust. ICS is not something devs has promised, it was a warranty made by a large, respected company. It was a sure thing. The manufacturer had told us so. "We're sorry" " is everything we hear from this disloyal, treacherous company. They've lost commercial interest for this phone. Making the gamepad work with ICS is just not worth the trouble. How worthy are sony, then? How can anyone still buy their products when there are so many options on the market? Are consumers to blame? Trolls and fanboys will keep on intoxicating forums defending sony as if they were paid for it. Stupid fanatic people will always exist. Conformis will always be a form of mass control... But, sensibly, we all know that if we accept this quietly, we'll be responsible for all others who follow sony's example.

  • Fact: Sony have failed to deliver what had been repeatedly advertised. ICS upgrade was seen by Sony as a strong selling point. That is why they always announced the peria lineup would get ICS.

  • LOL- I cant believe youre having a go at him for saying dude, like nobody says dude no more...

  • Stop all this rubbish about ICS, if you want it, get the ROM and stop whining, its not released for Xplay for a reason, do you want your games to run properly? or just never open your gamepad again? ICS was NOT reflected in the price, as I got this at launch price and ICS was barely spoken about at that point, and most deffinately nothing about it for the Xperia play. The price was because it is a one of a kind phone

  • xperia play is better than xperia play cdma

  • Guys we're not talking about our nationality here. We are all consumers. Whether we like it or not, its a scheme. Only SonyEricsson (Sony) has the patent for making PSP like phones. Admit it, if you're a fanboy and desperately need this type of product, you will oblige yourself to buy the new version that supports ICS if it comes next time around (as I thought i would). You have the choice! The Power is Yours! -Captain Planet- - Peace - :-)

ICS could function as well with the gamepad as Gingerbread. Lower specs phones have been upgraded, so the big issue here is: Is Sony willing to make the effort to keep its promise (and not because there is still big money in it)? Unfortunately, the answer is obvious: No. It siimply doesn't care enough. Like any lazy kis it just stated "Too much trouble. Won't work." And gullible customers, fanboys and employees repeat the key sentence as a mindless herd. A precedent has been created. Don't forget that if we just say 'yes', the excuse will be accepted every time it is used: "It won't work with your hardware." *Meaning: "Come buy us a new phone!" Companies who recur to such schemes should be lawfully punished.

  • hfs- dude !!! u say u r japnese.. this is united kingdom ..in uk honesty is very valuable ..you and sony must learn that honesty ..so stop defending the undefendable sony betrayal of loyal customers .. and we dont call anybody dude in uk as you hfs have done .. this forum is for informed discussions ..we feel sony must redeem itself as major world corp by honouring sony promises ..sony must offer its xperia play loyal customers goodwill gestures ..our first digital mobile was sony cdx 20+yrs ago ..still working .

  • Dude, don't hate to much to sony infact myself use xplay also feel disappointed but sony do that because they have reason, actually sony alrealdy build ICS for xplay but they stuck at developer decision,if they release ICS for xplay the hardware Gamepad will be useless sory for bad english im japanese

  • please can u elaborate it.. actually m not that much tech. so m unable to understand about the prob. u r talking abt...plz , its request.

  • hfs.. sony or any other maker must not make false promises to inflate selling prices ..thats simply fraud ..in case of genuine problems -- sony etc must be open and apologise to loyal customers .. sony etc must never be arrogant uncaring or frauds fony ..thats the issue .. and sony are expected to be honest ..sony has set bad precedence for other bad corps to follow ..getting away with bad service lies deceptions overclaims overcharging .. sony must be good sony always --leader upfront ..sadly sony have let down loyal customers like us of 30yrs standing .. still time for sony to make amends with customers ..

  • Seems like you copy from another gsmarena window article, that is problem why lumia win7 can't upgrade to win8,here we talk about android

  • The truth behind the XPlay not getting ICS: It's not impossible to port ICS on the XPlay device, as the cost of doing that would be very high and the profit/sales increase non-existant, or very little.

  • Sony? All smoke and mirrors! "Smoke and mirrors" is a metaphor for a deceptive, fraudulent or insubstantial explanation or description. More generally, "smoke and mirrors" may refer to any sort of presentation by which the audience or customer is intended to be deceived, such as an attempt to fool a prospective client into thinking that one has capabilities necessary to deliver a product in question.

  • Congratulations: You have been nominee as "Employee of the Month". SE has made us pay for something it always promised and failed to deliver. As you seem to be grateful for bing lied to, you may refund all deceived customers in the name of sony ehich (I hope) has paid you to propagate a "taped speech" such as yours. Be thankful for what you've (haven't) got: You've deserved it!

  • Are these trolls for real? Can anyone be thankful for being lied to, deceived and ill-treated? Go back to sony with these pseudo-posts praising a company for having lied to their customers. Happy for being deceived and lied to? Real clever... Sony is currently being boycotted by many consumers. Not buying Sony's products is the most effective action we can take and the trolling of employees praising sony for having lied and deceived their customers won't change the truth. The fact remains that customers were taken advantage of and have paid for something that was always announced/advertised as being part of the deal. Can any serious, sensible, honest customer be happy for being lied to? How will the (for now) unaffected ones feel when it happens to them? Can't you see the precedent sony have tried to silently create/impose here? At the end of the day, xplay owners will be left with an outdated phone, which won't receive updates and will be less valuable in any market and by any standards, simply because sony didn't bother. For large companies it is way too easy not to bother with the given word. For individual consumers, with no appropriate legislation to force manufacturers to refund their losses, boycotting ill-practises and dishonest companies remains the easiest - and potentially - most efective attitude.

  • The decision to cancel the ICS update was made so that the Xperia PLAY's compatibility and performance would be saved in favour of a buggy, slow ICS update.

  • And you're stuck for 24 months with the absolute best phone for gaming there is. One that's unique and fresh. Poor you. Seriously, ICS doesn't even matter, just stop with this update crap and enjoy this amazing phone.

  • So... You know it's going to screw up your PLAY... but you still want the update. Right. Xperia Play a bad idea? No, Xperia Play is one of the most unique phones and works perfectly the way it's supposed to. It was a great idea and one that I pray will live on for a long time.

  • People bought Xperia Play for ICS? Really? I'm going to go buy a new Windows PC just for the new Service Packs. Makes sense. People who bought this phone SHOULD have bought it for it's uniqueness and video gaming finesse, both of which it STILL offers in spades. If you care so much about a system update instead of a great gaming experience, then go and buy an S II or some other generic slab.

  • "We can buy similar products from many other companies" Point me to another Android Gaming phone with a high-quality, dedicated gamepad, please.

  • Perhaps you should take a step back and see how stupid this comment makes you sound. Xperia Play was sold as a PlayStation Phone, the price reflected it's uniqueness. The ICS update was cancelled because it was deemed unsuitable for the Play's framework. In order to keep the compatibility and overall amazing gaming experience. They didn't cancel to screw people over or save money, they canceled because it was in the best interest of PLAY owners. The Xperia PLAY is still one of the best phones available. Wow, it doesn't have sliding notifications, cosmic flow or a new theme. The PLAY right now, how it is, plays games perfectly, is slick, smooth and compatible with practically everything. Stop hating on Sony for making a decision that makes perfect sense. It's a SOFTWARE UPDATE, for goodness sake. Who the heck cares if the PLAY doesn't get it? It's perfect how it is. Don't agree? Go and buy some flat black rectangle like all the other phones available right now, and see how your gaming experince compares.

  • Shameful! "We can confirm that there will be no compensation offered to Sony Ericsson Xperia Play owners as a result of this cancellation, all we can do is aplogise for any inconvenience you may experienced." This is the answer from sony after having sold the Xplay as an ICS phone. Are you still happy? Then you're a mere herd of fanboys and employees ready to lie for the ones who get your money. Strange as these trolls seem to be happy after being deceived and lied to. Do you enjoy being abused? Consumers need to fight for their rights. The Xplay was meant to get ICS, its price reflected that. And, in order to keep selling, sony continued reporting it would all be fixed, and their developers were working to get customers the best gaming experience. Someone with coroporate responsibilities has lied, has deceived thousands of buyers from all over the world. As the ones who've made their part, who've paid (and are still paying for this phone), we've got every right to demand due compensation and that justice is done. Boycotting sony products worldwide? That's a fair, legal action that can be taken and that - if globally accepted - will make them realise how dishonest they've been and how regretful we are. Maybe, just maybe, they will learn the lesson. Maybe, just maybe, we'll make a point. If not for us, for future buyers.

One must also bear in mind that the announced ICS upgrade was reflected on the PRICE of XPlay upon purchase. It was a given fact for customers as they bought it. It was a (COM)Promise from this large company: Sony Ericsson. It was mentioned on the phone's SPECS, on every site and blog. Sony gave their word: If you bought this new gaming phone, you wouldn't miss on ICS. "A lie told often enough becomes the truth." I don't think so!

  • My only advice is to wait for the ICS version of any phone... or buy a phone with original ICS OS. Sony is still releasing 2.x versions (Gingerbread UI). That means you will have to download and install the new OS WHEN it gets released to your model. That will delete all your current software. It's just like formatting your computer's hard drive. If you're into music, make sure yoy get good quality earphones. That is something most phones do not have, as they tend to have an integrated switch and microphone, so you can receive calls/ talk & listen through those phones. At the end of the day, try to get a "hands-on" experienece of every phone you plan to buy. Check the sound quality with the default player and take your earphones (if they're quality phones) to experience sound quality. As far as Operative System, ICS is actually the only way to go. Be aware that that Gingerbread is past and programmes, games and applications are being developed for ICS (and JellyBean, actually) which are the sistems every modern Android phone should be working by now.

  • Cannot upgrade ICS mean can't use GoogleCrome (u____u)

  • Wow i dont think ics is that much of a deal. i mean when people bought their xplay they know theyre buying a gaming phone, and xplay is good at that..heck i think the gamepad is a godsent..the xplay is a wonderfull gaming phone, a good secondary handset to accompany my galaxy tab 2..

  • thnx man, what xperia phone can u suggest to me i like music and games,. i have some choices but cant really decide,. i like arc s or Sola,.

  • It will all depend on the price. This phone is already discontinued in many countries and has - literally - been abandoned by Sony. It will not receive any ICS (Android 4.x)upgrade, so you'll be "stuck" with the phone you're buying... for ever, actually. Of course, you'll still enjoy the gamepad but, other than that, future ICS games, applications and programmes won't be compatible and you'll soon feel you are left with an outdated phone. Sony has broken their promise and most of the people who have bought this phone are now trying to sell them. That is why there is so much offer of used Xperia Play phonesand prices anre continuously going down. And, as more current, updated phones are released, more and more of these phones will be on sale everywhere. around the globe.

  • hey is it ok if u buy this phone? are still making games for this phone? or pls give other xperia alternative for this phone,.

  • FOOD FOR THOUGHT Unfortunately, sony seems to believe ICS is too expensive or not worthy to develop. They simply won't be bothered with that. That happened with 3G nativive video calls. The front camera is there, but UNLIKE LG ans Samsung they didn't care enough to provide native video calling. The same happened with the intro of an FM Radio. It would mean peanuts to the final price... did they do it? No, sire! LG (P970) has got 3g video caling. The galaxy 2 also allows 3g "native" video calling. Contrarily to ALL that had been announced, the Xplay will NOT get ICS update. And that capacity of being upgraded was paid for i the phone's retail price. We were paying a team of developers who would avoid Android defragmentation and keep our phones' market value by keeping them updated with th latest OS. LIES, all Lies! That actually reveals how UNimportant customers are to large companies. No feedback to customers' output: NO 3G Video Calls; NO FM Radio; No camera improvements (as were made to other Xperia phones) (List may continue). No respect whatsoever for their customers suggestions & expectations. Sony has actually lied and deceived all those who bought the phone based on the announced premise that it would be "upgradeable". Maybe, we are also guilty of buying more and more (often) phones that are not that different... but are more and more expensive. Unless we stop financing these companies with our purchases, their web of deceival won't finish. They'll just keep us coming back for more... Is sony going the right way? It's just not me: Sales figures and market shares also seem to agree.... NO, it isn't. Without positive feedback from their customers, without a reliable trustful image on the market, sony will keep adding one bad result after another. No marketing campaign will save them unless they change their attitude towards those who pay their large incomes: The Customers. Stopping any purchase of a Sony product is both easy and legal. Opting out, no matter how many sony products we've purchased throughout the years is the action that will save us money, that will save us from more lying and that - ultimately - actually put sony under pressure. Share holders can't care less about sony phones. Most of them won't probably even use a sony phone. But the moment money stops pouring in, they'll want to know what has been done and why are customers moving away from their company. Maybe, only then, we will get a positive answer. Spread the word: sony is not worth of our money. We can buy similar products from many other companies and we won't act as faithful sheep who follow a brand no matter how we're treated. We shouldn't be loyall to these companies. They are the ones who should be captivating us and making an effort to keep us as customers. Fanboyish-like behaviour is alienated as it sees a brad as a religion and that is bad, stupid and dangerous beyond words as any sensible, educated person may obviously conclude. Of course, trolling will go on Of course the "they only did it for your good" speech will continue: Just as the orchestra kept on playing while the Titanic sank. Man, did they play... but it didn't stop the disaster from happening and the ship from sinking..."

  • ICS was a great advantage for this phone. That is why - from its launch - sony always publicised and announced this phone would get ICS. Much money has been spent advertising it and that has granted many sales and much (undeserved) profit for this phone. With this phoney excuse, sony has proven unworthy of our trust. To put it bluntly, sony have lied unscrupulously just to get us into buying this "niche" phone. ICS is not something private developers have promised, it was a warranty made by a large, "respected" company. It was a sure thing. The manufacturer had told us so. "We're sorry" is everything we hear from this disloyal, treacherous company. Thy've lost commercial interest for this phone. It is just not worth the trouble. How worthy are sony, then? How can anyone still buy their products when there are so many options on the market? Are consumers to blame? If we accept this quietly, If we keep on buying Sony phones, we'll be responsible for all others who follow sony's example. If we just be quiet and do nothing about this, then, we've deserved all the bad that has happened to us.

  • It will all depend on the price. This phone is already discontinued in many countries and has - literally - been abandoned by Sony. It will not receive any ICS (Android 4.x)upgrade, so you'll be "stuck" with the phone you're buying... for ever, actually. • Customers everywhere should be more than a herd of dumb fanboys suporting a company they're paying for. The fact that this phone had always been annpuncd as ICS "upgradable" was a strong selling point and it helped this phone's (difficult) sales. Sony knew very well how important it was to announce this specific "gaming" phone was "future-proof". That is why they kept the lies ggoing on until they couldn't hide the obvious: it was too expensive and the phone hadn't sold enough for them to bother. That is why they're still trying to sell clone-like phones ALL without ICS... but all (soon) upgradable. Critical thinking is essential to survive among the masses of mindless conformists who apparently will gladly accept/take anything from anyone. The only way to get back at these lying, deceving companies which provide no decent after sales support, which abuse our rights and despise customers the minute they get their money is to stop buying their products. Xperia Play owners have every right to feel abused, deceived and should get the right compensation. * You will feel too, when it happens to you.* As Sony only cares about making (MORE) money, the only possible action is to stop buying their products. If their sales and their profits actually diminsh, they will immediately realise they have done something wrong. Sony's not a dumb company. They're just testing whether their customers are.

  • no ICS for play is just plain stupid..

  • I interest to get this Play next week...can i get it or just forget it?im need some opinion...

  • GRISM- u say sony can still deliver ics for xperia play .. r u sony employee or boss !!!! how can u make that FALSE CLAIM ?? R U NOT ASHAMED OF YOURSELF ?? OR DO U TELL LIES LIES ANYWAY ? NOW ANSWE THIS WHERE IS SONY FULL PROPER ICS UPDATE --as you claim falsely -- for xperia play ??let customers decide ... and sony lies deceptions until very last minute ..yes very last minute ..CORPORATE GIANTS like SONY must be held to account ..sony must honour sony promises pledges .. and GRISM.. donot tell lies lies even if sony employes you ..this IS GREAT BRITAIN where HONESTY is valuable.

  • Sony has promised ICS update to all of its 2011 Xperia lineup and has lived up to the promise by delivering the update apart from Xperia Play. Now, for a company who has updated all of the phones except one, delivering update to that one excepted phone is no big deal. It's just that the games are not compatible with the ICS update on that particular phone. Sure, Sony has promised ICS for Xperia Play, but, if the ICS is not compatible with games whose loss would it be? The company can still go ahead and deliver the ICS update if you people insist. It's you people who are going to suffer the loss. Now it's up to you people.

  • Great talkers are great liars. Liars should have good memories If we always tell the truth we are unlikely to contradict ourselves; but if we resort to lies we are liable, when asked a question for a second time, to forget what our answer was on the first occasion.

  • Fact: Sony have failed to deliver what had been repeatedly advertised. ICS upgrade was seen by Sony as a strong selling point. That is why they always announced the peria lineup would get ICS. That was a clever marketing campaign: advertising today's phones as fully upgradable and compatible with the next OS. Did that work? Apparently, it did. Was that true? Obviously, not! • you worthless... Go get a life. Everyone knows this phone was a scam. No use you slave-like employees try to pollute the web. Just shut up and leave us alone... NEXT!

  • Could you guys stop whining? Sony has released a Beta version of ICS and will be releasing a final version shortly as u can confirm on their official blog! Now shut up, download the beta, test it and help them to release a final version!

  • Wow, even the xperia active got ICS. REALLY sux for us Play owners...

  • hey guys, I really want to but this phone. i was impressed by the specs. could you recommend me this? or not? please answer. i badly need suggestions. thanks in advance.

  • I see a more sinister purpose to Sony abandoning the Play, which is obvious from the way things have been happening over the last many months. This may sound like a conspiracy theory, especially since we can't prove any of it, but it must make sense. 1. The lack of 3g video calling in spite of having a front cam, and the lack of fm radio. The big money is just waiting to be tapped with cheap apps that many people will buy. Low margin, high volume. The smartphone market is still quite disorganised and things are still in a trial phase. Like viber and whatsapp for instance. But they will soon start charging, albeit a small fee, which many people will willingly pay up. There are similar apps for internet video calling and internet radio/streaming. If they provide these features built in, then why would anyone need to spend more money on these apps/services? 2. No ICS. For those that have used this phone, it is unexpectedly awesome. I never imagined a phone could be this much fun. This is in spite of having mediocre specs, even when it was launched. Even now, with much more powerful phones out there, i find it hard to imagine not having my Play. With such a perfect device, if the OS was current too, why would anyone want to switch to another phone? Sony, like all manufacturers want people to keep buying new phones, not stick with an old one till it dies. And also consider their Vita platform. Of course it's for more serious/hardcore gaming, but there's definitely a segment of people who will prefer to stick with the play. By not giving the Play PS Suite and the latest stuff, they're practically forcing people to buy a newer phone and the Vita if they want a gaming handheld. About ICS itself, how is it that so many kanged custom ICS roms work perfectly fine with gaming etc? The fact is, these phones come with so much bloatware from the manufacturer that they perform at about half of their capability. Till I rooted and debloated my Play, i was almost ready to chuck it thinking that it was severely underpowered. Similarly a Defy+ i bought for a friend recently. Thing was just crawling and hanging till we loaded CM9 on it. It's unbelievable that the manufacturers intentionally cripple their phones with so much bloat. So obviously the ICS beta would run like crap, i'm a 110% sure that if the Sony crapware was uninstalled, it too would provide a satisfactory ICS gaming experience. Bottom line is, it benefits Sony NOT to develop the Play further, just so that they can make more money selling their newer crap.

"We're sorry" is everything we hear from this disloyal, treacherous company. Thy've lost commercial interest for this phone. It is just not worth the trouble. How worthy are sony, then? How can anyone still buy their products when there are so many options on the market? Are consumers to blame? If we accept this quietly, we'll be responsible for all others who follow sony's example.

  • worst ph ive ever had...freezes to much, constantly tells me activity blah blah not responding, force close or wait..battery dies after 40/45 minutes of use..takes a long time to load n getting on internet is a nightmare.i was not interested in the iphone as its very plain, but now its time to smash my ph n get n iphone at least it wont freeze on me, n battery life lasts a lot longer..

  • no ics for xperia play :(

  • sony uk has clearly arrogantly unnecessarily stupidly abandoned loyal sony helpless customers..ICS IS NOT the main issue .. SONY UK BAD MANNERS are sickening ..

  • There's good news. XDA developers are working hard on various ICS ROMs for Xperia Play. One of that is:

  • The XPlay: Corporate Lies & Broken Promises! If we let it... one day, it may happen to u 2...

  • Customers everywhere should be more than a herd of dumb fanboys suporting a company they're paying for.

  • sony turnovers sales are DOWN in uk and sony needed excusios for shares holders .. xperia play fiasco bad publicity --perfect excusios ..seems method in sony madness .. SONY FONY ..

  • ABC - yes yes yes but what now .. do sony care ?

  • sonymobile uk .. now trying to entice new customers for new devices who had not bought xperiaplay .. but can sony ever be trusted again after xperia play let down ? sony has set a dangerous precedence --make false promises and false claims and make money with overinflated prices.. we hope sony learn hard lessons ..sony must make public apology to upset uk customers ..

  • Some people bought XPLAY for ICS. Isn't that clear enough? Can anybody answer? Ah... so you mean to say that SE is stupid not to think that XPLAY wont work for ICS? What do you think now? A. Are they stupid B. Were they lying C. Are they just ripping us off?

  • Unfortunately, sony seems to believe ICS is too expensive or not worthy to develop. Thy simply won't be bothered with that. That happened with 3G nativive video calls. Th e front camera was there, but UNLIKE LG ans Samsung they didn't care enough to provide it. The same happened with the intro of an FM Radio. It would mean peanuts to the final price... did they do it? No, sire! LG (P970) has got 3g video caling. The galaxy 2 also allows 3g "native" video calling. No marketing campaign will save them unless they change their attitude towards those who pay their large incomes: Th Customers. Of course, trolling will go on: As the orchestra kept on playing while the Titanic sank. Man, did they play... but it didn't stop the disaster from happening and the ship from sinking...

  • xperia play-- we emailed sony uk customer services for help to record downloaded mp3 music which we could not record but could listen as single songs .. today c/s sony emailed back saying xperiaplay has no such facility and suggested downloading app from 3rd party market .. WRONG !!! WE COULD DOWNLOAD AND RECORD MPS MUSIC -ON XPERIAPLAY microsdcard ..WE ARE PLEASED .. but sony uk c/s ought to know xperia play BETTER --please -- DONOT ABANDON XPERIA PLAY TOTALLY SONY UK .. EVEN AS NO ICS UPDATE .. SADLY sony uk c/s gave us wrong incorrect info on xperiaplay music recording instructions .. GSM ARENA .. we feel SONY UK must not abandon xperia play totally ..

  • Are these trolls for real? Can anyone be thankful for being lied to, deceived and ill-treated? Go back to sony with these pseudo-posts praising a company for having lied to their customers.

Be thankful for what you've got: You've deserved it!

  • im using my play to type this :) they are awesome :D

  • I got the phon less than 7 months ago and I started hittin problems.when I turn the phone on it freezes.I lock the screen then unlock it and the screen is just blank.I can still feel the phone vibrate when I push the buttons but I cannot see anything.I understand if this site is just for ratings but I only got the phone and would hate to bin it.Any advice would be gravely appreciated?

  • Discontinued, people..

  • i bought this phone only 3 days ago and am impressed. i decided to upgrade from nokia n97mini and the xperia plays on screen qwerty is really good, i thought physical qwerty's were better but touch can be just as good. i only bought it because it cost $199 in kmart and i read about it when it came out last year, and its definitely more than worth the price, very good touch screen, battery is okay, camera could be better, internet surfing is awesome, wifi very good, network on telstra is fast as, done some gaming and its leagues better than other mobiles thats for sure, and sound is loud, system very smooth and much faster than n97mini, at this price i cant go wrong. awesome value

  • quoted from xda developers, by TLRtheory "Many may disagree with me... but after seeing Sony's past mistakes, this is a surprisingly smart move. For a while now, it's been confirmed beyond a fixable mean that ICS caused tons of games not to work. While the bandwagon-jumpers will be too busy trying to go all "occupy wall-street" on us to realize this, Sony's best interest is to provide a functional product. 2.3.x users may not be able to show off the shiny new thing, but they can't make the statements that they ever had compatibility issues, that their FW is riddled with stability problems, or that they have any less than their pick of the litter when it comes to software. If anything, releasing ICS would just force us into extraordinary software problems that'd be a burden on the developers and consumers. Sounds like Sony, at long last, gained the ability to learn from their past mistakes. Besides... anyone who wants to compromise how much of Xperia Play's great software they can get in on can already do so. The option of ICS is already available to Xperia Play users... and with software compatibility on my side, I'm more than happy to NOT use it. When this pseudo "occupy wall street" movement has ended, perhaps a larger portion of people will realize just how much more apocalyptic things would be if Sony released something that would have such large-scale balance destruction. As Geeve said, I do have this gut feeling that the update will be released as a PR positivity-boosting move (but with no motive greater than to quell the whiners)... and they'll get every bit of what they deserve when most of their stuff doesn't work and they come slithering back to GB." my money is on this dude

  • was lying the world.......

  • I have had this phone for 5 months now. I have never had any trouble with it. The phone has a number of features but what makes this phone stand out is the gamepad. The graphics are perfect for watching videos on YouTube and gaming. The 8GB SD card included has plenty of room for storage. The battery is good but when using Wi-Fi it goes fast. The phone weighs 175g which is a little bit heavy. Overall it is a great phone and I would recommend it.

  • when ever i turn on the wifi and try to download stuffs from google play. every time i get the error that your ... could not be downloaded ( error 403 ). wat should i do?

  • Yes indeed, ICS upgrade is reflected on the PRICE of XPlay upon purchase. Its an option for customers as they bought it. Its a PROMISE of SE otherwise they shouldn't have mentioned that on SPECS. It is sweeping, its false advertising and mis-commitment if you dont keep that. Cellphone is more expensive than TV, is it not? Its an investment just like Sony Ericsson was an investment. However upon doing this, you just left us (the customers) a very bad impression about your company, that SE is such a nightmare in the world of mobile phones. As an option for XPlay, it should be left to customers whether to upgrade the phone or not. As long as the upgrade is there, its our choice. Just give a warning that this might just not be a good idea. Now, I know the idea. The phone it self was a bad idea. No wonder why you lose customers.

  • Unless its for the Android Market or anything else Google-based, I wouldn't trust it.

  • i have had the phone for just about a year now. the OS is very customizable compared to other androids, the sound is excelent, gamepad is a dream, best thing for this phone. very unique. Only downfall is that it came out at the same time the galaxy s2 did with a dualcore, but it only got an OC'd single core. and only 512mb ram. the handset is very resource hungry, when it finishes booting it only leaves you with 200mb ram free, and thats stock, when you add more apps (and you will) i avg around 150mb now. and when you start a game you have zero, no multitasking because of this. keeping that in mind though, the gameplay is mind blowing much better then any other phone/tablet out there, inbuild game pad is epic, the abandonment of ICS is annoying but all in all. one great phone. if they ever release a 2nd model, i will be buying it. perfect phone. just not enough resources QQ

  • This phone is awesome!I love it!Worth every penny. The gamepad is damn good.Everyone said "oh 1GHz processor won't be enough for anything"...not true at all.It runs the games very well and i can play my old ps1,Snes games whenever i want.It looks cool too. God,i love it...

  • There is no longer any plan to upgrade to Android v4.0x. Boo.

  • I like it, it's very easy to play games. Can anybody play Xperia game better than this big fish? I bet you never know how perfect can it be to play SNES chip&dale game on Xperia!! Hit , you will be shocked by how efficiently it is a big fish gets through all stages within 2 minutes !!

  • looking forward to buy this droid. wanting to PLAY right now without any confusing with ICS ..just downgraded my tiny ray back to GB ;-) ICS sukc

  • how about the flex of this phone????

  • Hi guys. Kindly advise on downloading games (Virtual Tennis) for South Africa. Is this entering of 6 credit card numbers method of buying games trusworthy? Thank you in advance.

  • nice phone

  • It should be able to get android 3.0 honey comb.i mean the xperiaplay

  • Shameful! "We can confirm that there will be no compensation offered to Sony Ericsson Xperia Play owners as a result of this cancellation, all we can do is aplogise for any inconvenience you may experienced." This is the answer from sony after having sold the Xplay as an ICS phone. You still happy? then you're a mere herd of fanboys and employees ready to lie for the ones who get your money. Strange as these trolls seem to be happy after being deceived and lied to. You enjoy being abused?

  • Listen guys xperia play was meant for gaming and it gives me a better gamng experience than my brothers glaxy s2 and my friends iphone 4s.. seriously it is your choice either you opt a phone or for latest android updates.....i would lke to mention here the gaming of xperia play relates to PSP as the first PSP in market PSP phat and Latest PSP vta contain same ISO options ... no one complained over there ...similarly i guess xperia play is a blessing for gaming lovers....and even ICS not available hell with it ... i practised teken 6 on my xperia play all my life and won a competition at my uni... because tekken 6 and ps3 share the same tekken 6 ... what a machine i am in love with it..

  • SONY UK-- NO RESPONSE TO ALL THE UPSET LONGSTANDING SONY CUSTOMERS !!!! amazing response !!! end of the world ?? so upset customers are being ridiculed and abused again and again ..ridiculous !

  • Aifa's definitely has the point. As stated by Sony at the forum, when the ICS beta hav been released all pro reviewers hav been suggesting Ugly and Crop performance due to d hardware of Xplay.. But as a customer ofcourse, u hav d right to complain about that.. Because the Arc S,Arc,Neo,Neo V etc almost all 2011 xperia phones will recieve the update with the same hardware but why not Xplay? Xplay is a specialized droid for Gaming. But Gaming isn't like any other features there, it needs 100% compatibility w/ the game, smoothness & atleast no lagging because gaming with lagging is a hell! Arc and etc are just like other droid phones that doesn't require 100% smoothness regarding gaming even if they lag a bit it won't be that big deal.. Also developers are developing & selling their games because of d device's compatibility. And even if Xplay's been updated to ICS, there'll be only few games and dvelopers that make games to it because of the hardware compatibility, so d choice, you might end up downgrading to Gingerbread. But there are many alternatives to solve this.. 1st, Sony make the ICS update optional; if d users like it, be on it. 2nd, Release their ICS-skinned Android 2.3.7 update like on the Xperia S with some improvements..

  • Protest here guyz ... although i am not a Play user .. but i knw it feels bad when coustomers are cheated ...

  • We need stronger consumer protection laws WORDWIDE! The greatest paradox: Although consumers pay for and support the consumer society and all these large multinatinal comapnies, they keep being the weakest link of this capitalist chain. Will we keep on allowing that? Will we keep on giving our money to those who lie and deceive us? Will we keep on accepting being seen as a mindless herd?

  • Fact: Sony have failed to deliver what had been repeatedly advertised. ICS upgrade was seen by Sony as a strong selling point. That is why they always announced the peria lineup would get ICS. That was a clever marketing campaign: advertising today's phones as fully upgradable and compatible with the next OS. Did that work? Apparently, it did. Was that true? Obviously, not!

  • sony break my heart..juz hope some upgrade for camera n face unlock only...huhu... hope have another update forr this.. not getting ics so i can root my play..

  • u guys should be thankful that Sony decided not to upgrade play. gaming experience would definitely suck on this poor chipset.if they gave the play an ICS upgrade, most of u will surely complain why gaming suddenly became crap. if they made play with dual core cpu and better gpu, then definitely play should get ics, but they know with this hardware now, ICS + bad chipset = crappy gaming

  • Cut the crap on the ICS PLANNED UPGRADE . You're not upgrading it anyway. I almost bought one.

  • really hope for the ics... so sad when heard xplay wilnt update to ics... heartbreak..

  • Sony have reason why this phone willnt upgrade to ics, because if xplay upgrade to ics you will get lagging when you playing a game

  • Yeah I agree...I was reading thew and every body is complaining about video calls...I'm like get apps like Fring or Yahoo messenger Skype ect... To me it sounds like they need to spend more time in the apps store and if they did they would already know this..lol I say do research before you post people.. One thing that upsets me is they are not upgrading it to 4.0 Android...

  • Hi guys. I'm proud to say that I traded my iPhone 4 for Xperia Play. Reason: My nephew visited with his PS3 and all those memories of rocking games all day and my Sony Ericsson intro W950, I just couldn't hold back my desires to own a SonyEricsson/Sony again. Now i feel like a kid in the candy store!

  • If you people had actually tried the ICS beta, you would realize it would be an even bigger mistake for Sony to release the update, than to cancel it. It's unstable, and even simple games lag on it. It completely compromises the user's experience and the phones primary function. Sony has been honest, and although it is disappointing, I respect their decision. Anyway, the phone is still fabulous on gingerbread! Stop complaining and accept it.

  • i'd be curious to know how many people in the US bought the play because of the ics promise? maybe Sony needs the threat of a class action. i am stuck with 18 month on a 2 year contract with AT&T for a device that I bought only after researching the upgrade path and at the time it included ICS.

  • Well, first of all I would have run all the tests before saying it would be upgraded to ICS... But, as this was not the case, I would have given the choice to those who were interested in upgrading to do so even if it meant unstability concerning games. On the other hand, what is going to happen with the owners of Xperia Play? Are we at least going to get some kind of compensation for this outrage? How about an improved version of GB which includes a better camera with panoramic photos and some other improvements? Is that too much to ask too? :(

  • The only way to get back at these lying, deceving companies which provide no decent after sales support, which abuse our rights and despise customers the minute they get their money is to stop buying their products. Xperia Play owners have every right to feel abused, deceived and should get the right compensation. As Sony only cares about making MORE money, the only possible action is to stop buying their products. If their sales and their profits actually diminsh, they will immediately realise they have done something wrong. And Sony's not a dumb company, but they're just realising and testing whether their customers might be just that...

  • I dont know why sony dont upgrade this phone to ics all the 2011 smartphone get the update only this!!!!!! Why we are buyed this phone in hight price??? For still with an old version same at GB??? No this is unacceptable ! Ok sony you lost your customers :-S .... We can said bye bye sony ! I am going to buy the htc one x !

  • im going to buy this phone in 3 more days, i just wanted to know if the phone allows 3g video calling ad is it good? pls some1 reply to me soon, bcause i dont wanna waste my money

  • stop being fanboyish. a lie is a lie. anytime. anywhere.

  • the only reason why this phone is not getting a ICS update is that it gets unstable after the update so sony had the choice fix the same phone every week (because it will crash) or not update it . be honest what would you have done if you were sony

  • In my old post which i've quoted just above, I came to the conclusion that Sony were giving up on the play. I also had a gut feeling that they were going to ditch ICS but didn't say it in the fear of 'jinxing' it. But given the slow rate at which they're releasing ICS even for their current 'hot' 'new' handsets, it seemed really unlikely. I dunno how many employees sony has and how many out of them are developers, but it all seems very inadequate for such a huge company eh? Bottom line is i've always been an ericsson and then SE user since forever, but that's gonna change with my next phone...

  • Confirmed. =( Contrarily to ALL that had been announced, the Xplay will NOT get ICS update. That actually reveals how UNimportant customers are to large companies. No feedback to customers' output: NO 3G Video Calls; NO FM Radio; No camera improvements (as were made to other Xperia phones) (List may continue). • After sellings phones for 2 years now, not once have i EVER been asked if a phone has 3G video calls or fm radio. Guess its not that important

  • It was anounced by Sony officialy, Xperia Play isn't getting ICS update. This is really disappointing, never again gonna buy a Sony device.

  • Unfortunately, sony seems to believe video calling is too expensive or not worthy to develop. LG (P970) has got 3g video caling. The galaxy 2 also allows 3g "native" video calling. That means today's top sellers across Europe provide video calling as a strong selling point. Sony's sales are dwindling and the poor customer support is an essential reason for that. Any midrange phone has got FM Radio - The Xplay doesn't. Is sony going the right way? It's just not me: Sales figures and market shares also seem to agree.... NO, it isn't.

  • yes buddy its a 3g phone video calling suppotred

  • Unfortunately, it does NOT. There is no option to place a voice OR a video call on the UI. For all those who haven't got unlimited or free wifi connections, for those who have to pay extra for limited traffic data connections, it does make a difference. =(

  • does xplay supports video calling???

  • I hope sony make a version of this that looks like n97. I like the its design. It has d-pad on the right and qwerty keyboard.

  • no. you have plenty of emulators and the phone connects and shoes you all games that are specificaly desiigned to work with the Xplay. you have plenty of game that work w. the gamepad and all other function normally, through the touch screen. if you want to play psx games, you'll need to look for compatible/adapted gams and emulators as the Xplay is not meant/designed to play psx games. the only one you've got on the phone is an adapted version of crash bandicoot.

  • xperia play have playstation store?

  • you may visit www.widgetcity.com or www.widgetcity.multiply.com and you can buy SE Xperia Play

  • We'll just have to wait until... June? Sony has delayed ICS, so only a few Xperia model have got it. Keep your fingers crossed, though. The word is that ICS make the phone 'laggy', slower and there ain't no fm radio or 3g video calling... I guess that is why sammmy phones are selling like hot cakes.

  • Xplay is a very great phone... actually its underrated during its debut. its a great smart phone but if you'll compare it to the latest phone announced of course it won't satisfy your expectations. its a great smart phone with game console... the negative side of this is its weight. but of course i'll wait for the sony xperia play2! :))

  • How to update XPLAY to ICS without having to root my phone?

  • Cant believe people are moanin about 3g video calls, if you want them so bad get an app, your all just bone idle, the weight and low memory is the only downside to the play overall a freakin awesome phone I wouldnt upgrade because you get these phones with all the power and no where to use it so really dont see the point

  • This phone is no more, or no less (as you prefer) than announced. If you want a light, slim phone, you must be really dumb if you buy an Xplay! If you want a true gamepad, then you'll have to sacrifice and read the phone's specifications. It's not the world's best phone, it should have a larger internal memory, it almost literally forces you to root in order to get some games and apps into the sd card... well, it's far from being flawless... But, at the end of the day, it's the only phone that allows you to hang up your calls, turn off your gps and slide your pad to start playing without having your fingers all over the screen, providing you a true "console-like" gaming experience. That's the ghole point of buying an XPlay in a market filled with a multitude of different brands and models to choose from.

  • Simply love the fact that others envy the fact that their big thumbs cover the screen when playing. Wish they'll have XPlay 2 with Super AMOLED screen, better GPU and better CPU.

  • Give 5 out of ten for play controls. the size and weight is so awful it pulls your trousers down got rid and got Xperia arc s much better phone overall I'd give 4 out of ten don't recommend

  • NO you cant.. the control pad is just a design. you use the playstation buttons so you can full your friends that your phone is a PSP

  • hey guys, i have had the xperia play for about 3 months now and i love it, the graphics are great the games are great. its a great phone regardless of wether your going to use the psp controls, 9/10 only downside is that it is a tad heavier than most phones and a bit chunky

  • No

  • does xperia play have HDMI port..??

  • Can you put games in this phone??????????.......

  • is this a good choice when it comes to games ? im planning to get one

  • is xperia play and xperia x10 play hd video

  • Why you want to pay up that phone to much money brake the money down to much money? sorry its true

  • i have problem for my xperia play my battery always hot if i play games and listening music.5 minutes my phone battery always hot cant you help me what will i do..

  • well i updated my play to 4.0.3 feels more speed than GB slow on ICS coz too many apps running at background. use an auto task killer. anyway i love my play,n looking 4ward to its successor(xperia play II??)

  • i just install fpse on my play.. for now just got tekken3 only.. hehe.. also download bios.. i can play the game smoothly and perfect but cant save or load.. already select bios and when back to game it say "bios not set" restart and uninstall also dont work.. someone help pleasee..

  • I realized something about the Play after reading this post: Sony isn't really gonna do much in terms of updates for the play. And the reason is simple. It's such an awesome phone that if they gave it all the latest updates, no one would want/need to upgrade to a newer phone and give sony $$$. All we can hope is that since this is all software, some community modders/developers will port all this stuff to the play. sony for sure are not going to.

  • It must be. That is why the Samsung have both FM Radio and Video Calling and is a record seller whilst the xperia keep selling so very little. People know what they want and that is refleted on sales figures. Better phones end up selling more and being more successful. Android phones with 3G video calls and FM Radio have prove that beyond any reasonable doubt.

  • Yes. For all those who haven't got unlimited or free wifi connections, for those who have to pay extra for limited traffic data connections, it does make a difference. And the same applies to the lack of native 3g video calls. That is why some phones are much more successful than others. If Sony is commited to providing good quality products and fully understands their customers' feedback, it's about time Sony's managers start noticing what their costumers wish and complain about and try not to lose an even larger market share.

  • Is a radio really that important when it can handle 32GB MicroSD cards? AND is able to stream music?

  • Why my PLAY internet very slow? Only 40kbps with 3G and HSDPA.. My other phone(SE G705) use same network can reach 3++kbps with 3G.. Do PLAY show 3G icon on the top? Im using mobile network not wifi.. Someone please help

  • having all specifications except radio...WTF!!!!

  • I want to use GPS.

  • Fun phone. The gamepad does add to the fun of playing, but you may miss being able to make video calls and an FM Radio. Those who have lots of bandwith and unlimited data traffic may turn to skype to make video calls, but all others who were used to having them at the push of a button... forget it! We can only hope Sony will listen to their customers and tell their programmers to do what LG , Samsung and others have managed a long time ago: Native video calls on an Android phone.

  • It has a Li-po battery not li-ion

  • Ics Hasn't officially released yet...! it will release in may

  • hey with this phone dose it play psp game and do you know if its compatable will all psp games on the psn

  • In-built apps can be removed. I use link2sd to do the same.

  • Err, no offence, but you shouldn't even be using an android phone if you don't know that you have to root and debloat a new phone to get proper performance. An example, bought a new Motorola defy+ for a friend, that phone is even worse than the Play in terms of bloatware. Rooted and installed a custom Rom and it's just flying. No idea why manufacturers intentionally cripple their android phones with preinstalled crap, but that's how it is. If you want a simple and easy out of box experience, buy an iphone or winmo.

  • Guys......my xperia play is hanging sometimes playing games and is performing slow can someone tell me how to speed up this cell??

  • that's why ICS for SE is still in BETA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People should star complaining after official release.

  • Guys DO NOT Update Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY to ICS, It will slow down your phone!!! Many people r complaining about the slowdown in other 2011 Xperia devices which has been updated to ICS. DO NOT UPDATE TO ICS!!!! STAY ON GB!!!

  • This phone isn't that good... Useless apps for me which are installed in the phone like BBC iPlayer, Tetris, Video Unlimited, office suite, Neo reader FIFA 10 with awful graphics etc... The worst part This phone won't allow me to remove this apps! Plus this stupid apps slows down phone so I have to restart the phone everyday to speed it up! The is isn't good...

  • I hv been using SEXPlay since January 2012. its a good companion while taking a dump. sometimes I forgot that I was dumpg while playg this phone. sadly u cannot play ps2 games. But it is possible when u see gta 3 and max payne got ported into mobile apps. The phone had fell down a couple of times on my toilet floor. but still no scratch can be found. The phone is tough as brick. Best used to play tekken 3 and all megaman games. The best thing is this phone is cheap as hell. The camera is no good though. Overall it is good, reliable n cheap. If a better psphone will come out I will definitely buy it.

  • Awesome phone. Just bought it last week and I'm loving it. Really a lot of improvements after the update to 2.3.4. I have no problem with the battery life because of the JuiceDefender app. Gaming experience is good for a smartphone. I have FIFA 12 and it's a lot better in the Xperia Play than in the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Overall, this phone is soo worth my money.

  • please, i stay in nigeria and i been trying to buy this phone for long now. but there is no place i can buy it. please who can tell me where to get it here in nigeria. thanks!

  • Nice one mate, thanks for the clear repsonse, I have been looking for a decent explanation for a while.

  • cant wait for it..

  • Man this is the best to phone to have it not only to game lovers but also this phone suits to business type ppl cheers to every one

  • As I've mentioned before, in Iberia (continental Europe) my Vodafone plan (NO advertising intended) is as follows: 15 Month including unlimited VIDEO and Voice calls to phones w same price plan (useful for the whole family). Internet Access/Data Plan - It's an extra and you have to pay an extra 5,56 per month to get 100Mb (also per month). Calls to other operators and home phones are charged from the 15 you pay monthly. I usually end up with money left, but not enough to pay for any data plan. This phone does NOT allow 3G "proprietary" video calls. Samsung, HTC and LG equivalent-range Android phones have "proprietary/native" video calling. 3G native video calling means selecting a contact - as you do in a regular voice call - and choosing whether to make a voice call, clicking the appropriate icon, os a video call, which automatically opens your front camera window (a small window on the bottom left corner, so you know what you are showing the other party). On the main window, you'll see the person you are talking to. No need for WiFi or data connections, just clicking as any other "normal" voice call. No need for any specific programme, no need to install anything on the phone, no need for any WiFi connection or extra data-plan payment. It's included in the 15 you pay monthly and, as far as you call people on the same price plan, you'll be keeping those 15. You end up spending that "plafond" (15) calling other operators' contacts/numbers via voice or video call, OR - if you save enough for it - paying for an extra data plan with very limited traffic limits (as I've mentioned above) which will allow you to view emails, update weather and other applications, etc, as the limits are too short to allow video calling, or any serious Internet browsing (100MB =5,56 per month). So, that's the whole point of having 3G video calls. I know the definition is not accurate, as data calls are made possible via 3G, but that's the way we call it here, as video calls only became available and popular after the implementation of 3G networks. As I've already stated, my older Vodafone Sony v630 still works and allows video calls. My relatives' Window Mobile HTCs And Android Samsung phones all have native video calls. Currently, I am the one in the family with the newest phone (since Christmas) and I am the one who can't make video calls with my new phone, which that's pretty stupid, as it would be simple to allow it, if Google didn't want to end up with this type of video calls which are only profitable for operators such as Telefonica, Orange and Vodafone, but NOT profitable to Google... That means that I have been forced to take my old sony phone along to make video calls, which is something we do quite regularly amongst friends and family, or whenever we travel or go on trips to somewhere new. That is why we'll keep on demanding, asking for, "moaning about", if you wish, having 3G video calls... something practical, useful, unexpensive, widely available and that doesn't stop other users from making their video calls via WiFi or data plans, if they wish or prefer to do so. Granting 3G native video calls to Xperia phones wouldn't hurt anyone and would definitely enlarge the marketing and sales potential of the series (compared to samsungs, for example). More features=More sales/More buyers=MORE PROFITS. It's really a win-win situation.

  • Will be late may early june for ics! Plays getting updated in second batch along with live, xperia mini, arc, neo, pro, xperia mini pro and active! Not long to wait guys!

  • xperia play or ipod touch 4g? For gaming... For applications...for fastest web browser and cpu...which is the better?

  • Can anyone please explain to me what the problem is with people using for example, Skype on their phone to do video calls. Rather than moan about this "native" 3g calls, whats the difference ? Either way its going to charge you or use your data plan. As there is no such thing as "voice mintues" or stuff like that included on contracts now. (In the UK anyway)

  • This has to be the best news since they said we're getting official ICS. Hope the rooting trick still works on the final ICS...

  • Hey guys, just tell me how to have a wallpaper without cropping on this phone ? And why when answering my call or even while making a call my loadspeaker switches on automatically ? plz someone suggest me what to do...

  • Well, there's a simple way to find out. Sony has released the ICS update for the Xperia ARC S, NEO V and Ray. Check if the update gave them video calling. Coz if they don't have it, then obviously the Play won't get it either. Fact is, with faster internet connectivity options, the days of video calling over 3g looks pretty numbered.

  • I agree with that. 3G native video calls are something that have helped samsung's and htc's sales in the highly competitive android market. In Europe (and India, apparently) people are used to placing video calls at no extra cost and not needing any extra software or connection, and that is both positive and useful. Google has tried to sell Android phones without native video calling, but older users who were used to it and all those whose price plans include video calls won't accep it. I will also be very sorry if sony doesn't include native video calling on their ICS update and I am sure that will mean one thing: My next phone WON'T be another sony. Bear in mind, it's quite common for whole families having the same brand/type of phone and enjoying native video calls, just as they do with "regular" voice calls. That means that if I change from sony to another brand, it will be more than a single phone sony will stop selling, because no one in my family will do the same mistake I did. I believed having a gamepad would be great, and no doubt about it, IT IS! But, at the end of the day, you'll be wanting and needing a... PHONE! And getting myself an android phone with video calling capability will NOT stop me from playing my games! Just think about it.

  • When the ics update? They say late april/ early may.. Anyone know the exact date?

  • When the ics update? They say late april/ early may.. Anyone know the exact date?

  • Thanks bro

  • This is for all the Xperia Play lovers and I am sure they will feel that this is good news. Xperia Play is truly an amazing phone and now when it has ICS it is surely going to be awesome. Rooters should now be happy because Play can be rooted with ICS. Check

  • there is no HDMI ?

  • does the Xperia Play supports CSO and ISO Files???? (PSP Games)

  • It is very BAD thing that Sony does not have any developer who can write code for Native 3G video call. Is this same Sony who had many phones with Native 3G video call??? MicroMax (mobile manufacture in India) android super phones also has Native 3G video calls inbuild with dual sim. They also using similar hardware and operating system. Micromax mobiles are much cheaper. If they can WHY NOT SONY??? I just updated my Neo V with ICS. I thought Native 3G video call enabled in this update. My mistake, I am expecting A SMALL THING from BIG BRAND. It is just waste of money of buying SONY andorid mobiles. It is GOOD for Nothing. I am very disapointed. Native 3G video call is much cheaper in India compared to Video Chat. India's Govt mobile service provider charge 1 paise per second for Native 3G video call without any DATA charges. MicroMax knows the need of Indian people so they are growing. Samsung does the same thing. Where is SONY?? I like Sony mobiles as they built good quality phones with good look. But I need to basic feature as well. If that is not there, then it's of no use.

  • I don't know about U.S.A., but in Europe we can have videocalls through the 3G network. I'm not talking about VoIP videocalls etc. I'm talking about "native" 3G videocalls. I'm not saying I always use videocalls, but sometimes I do use them. Every 3G-phone I've ever had was videocall-capable. Every Windows Mobile Symbian-phone, every 3G-phone (such as SONY's) with a proprietary OS was videocall-capable. From what I've seen, the only ones currently lacking this feature are iPhone and Android based smartphones from "lazy" brands such as Sony... HTC, LG and Samsung do offer 3G video native call starting from their mid-range phones. It even seems like the next gen iPhone could be videocall-capable, although that may be an advertiding stunt from Apple's clever marketing dept...

  • this phone game playstation 3 or 2 or togetter

  • In brazil, the xperia play runs android 2.3.3

  • whats the quality of the audio with headphones on a scale of 1 to 10 and compared to other phones regards

  • Rs 21000/- (mobilestore) mumbai

  • Although I've emailed and posted my opinions (on Sony's "official" Blog)FOR native 3G video calls on current Sony Android phones... And even though"traditional" video calling has played an important part, namely, on the sales volume of the galaxy S2 (they're even advertised, here in Europe as one of the PLUSes of the phone)... Even when I - emotionally, maybe - wish (and act so) things weren't so... I'm afraid you are absolutely right! Congratulations on a wise, sensible and intelligent view of this issue! Thank you for sharing your thoughful views!

  • What is price in india answer plzzz

  • I've said this before but nobody seems to get it. It is not just cost-free for Sony to develop native 3G video calls for older phones. Heck, even for their new phones, it will take a significant investment in manpower, time and money to develop. And since they're not really doing so well in the market, they would rather invest all this in more 'cool' and flashy technologies which would attract the attention of new buyers. Ask yourself honestly, what would sound more enticing to a newbie buyer already conditioned by apple-like marketing campaigns? Unibody/liquidmetal/7G/floatingtouch OR plain old video calling? Now when you consider that the play, like many of the older phones are probably at EOL, with very few pieces even available in the market, would they spend so much investment on this when they're not even doing it for newer phones? We've already bought our phones, Sony will gain nothing by giving us more, just maybe a teeny-weeny little bit more reputation as a post-sales customer-centric company. Now if new buyers, say of the xperia S etc. would demand native 3g calls and Sony's market research concludes that this feature would indeed boost sales, then maybe they would develop this. But honestly, it doesn't look good for us older users. And most importantly, I doubt many of Sony's team are going to be trawling through these many posts here looking for ways to improve customer satisfaction. We need to make our voice heard where it counts, like on petitions and directly contacting Sony officials.

  • yes they do, once u download the file from market or play shop, they then ask you to further download more data depending on the game

  • That is true. Brands need to include specific programmes to allow 3g 'automatic' video calling and sony need to do it fast if they don't want to lose (any more) customers. Not everyone has free wifi or affordable data plans and why the need for downloading additional programmes and occupying more memory? Both older sony phones and current android phones allow choosing voice or video call when making any call. why doesn't sony include that in their newer phones? Including video calling possibility will never hurt sony and it will earn them many more buyers, just look around to other brands that have video calling and their sales numbers.

  • plz..someone suggest me.does any gameloft and ea games requires further downloading?example:does spiderman total mayhem,asphalt6,avatar,nfs shift requires further downloading?

  • i got one of these phones today but when i call my gf she cant hear anything im saying? whats wrong with it? how do i turn the mic on????

  • Dude, you're claiming that you are able to make 3g video calls. Just tell me one thing. What program do you use to make them? Skype, etc?

  • It's a good cellphone. Single-core, but the performance is very good. My Xperis Plays is running in 1,6ghz, and I play all the games optimized to him, without problems. But the camera don't have much contrast. At all, the phone is very good. I want ro buy the Xperia S next year 8D

  • hey james the pseakers are real good. usabilty depends on ur hands. go out to a local store and check out the phone, it is thicker than normal, but it may or may not have an effect considering how comfortable u feel with the phone. i have normal sized hands and i can use the phone pretty much single handedly, on the other hand some of my friends use both hands at times, as they are smaller than mine, and they struggle to reach every corner of the phone with one hand!

  • Ive got live walkman but ive noticed play has stereo speakers as well. How loud are they in comparison? Are they the same speakers? Live is much louder than rest of xperias but is this the same with play? I know play is a thick phone but does this affect its usability as a normal phone when not gaming?

  • Try googling putlocker! For instance put in 'watch star wars on putlocker'.

  • I've downloaded "mx video player" and i can watch any movies on my Sony Ericsson Xperia Play

  • For all those moaning- there is video calling over 3g, now i dont know what country u live in or what your network allows. in im uk, and i do video calls several times a day over 3g, so i dont really understand the fuss people are creating here. my top things about the phone so far(at random) 1. Gameplay is the best. gamepad allows the screen to be free, so have a 4 inch screen full of fun. put any game on and u would know what im on about. let the isheeps brag, u cannot beat the play on gameplay!! 2. the analogue controls could take some practice before u get a hang of it, but on the other hand might not. the keys are brilliant, respond well. 3. Connectivity is good. again depends on the network, but once u get what you need play does well on 3g. I have unlimited data, so use wifi hotspot like anything. be it for my pc to download movies, or for my xbox live, it works brilliantly for me, as im saving up on costs of having a wifi connection. 4. Call quality is another plus. its nicely loud and very clear, has background noise supression that helps in busy places. 5. Audio quality is superb when on speakers. hold it in ur hand while playing music, and u can feel the quality. its loud with quailty. watching videos is a joy especially with the speakers( i have mx video player from the market, lets me stretch/crop video to make it full screen, the native video player wont allow that. there are other apps too so head on to the play store). on the other hand when u plug in headphones, you could be dissapointed as its not the loudest experience. its decently loud, but very clear sound. 6. Camera, is a 5mp, and its good. now you would compare it to everything in the market, but u should know sony didnt put the best camera in this. still by the standards of 5mp shooters this is pretty good. settings for camera are nice too. 720p recording. t also gives an option to shoot high quality videos for youtube uploading. 7. Battery life- if u are careful u might squeez a lot out of it or u might be charging it twice a day. i have tried almost every trick to see how to get it right. with background activities shut down, i managed to get through 2 days, with 3 hrs of calling, 3g was on for 17 hrs(1 hr browsing on 3g) 1 hr browsing on wifi, wifi was on for 8 hrs( used 4 hrs 12 minutes for playing radio over wifi on speakers)but had to charge it around the end of 2nd day. on another occasion, i charged the phone to 100%, then i was using wifi hotspot, and playing game at the same time. that session lasted 3hrs and 23 minutes before it dropped to 12%. i thought thats descent as i was playing with sound on speakers(asphalt 6hd), then i was using the internet heavily. 8. Screen is good, colours pop out nicely, its not the best on sunlight legibility, u need to have a bright theme if you want to use it under the sun. i had a black background theme on in the sun, and that more than halved the brightness, even when it was at 100%. the screen in general should have been more brighter considering it has led backlighting. it works great on games, but on every other thing i just wish it was a tad bit brighter, would have made it perfect.

  • Cn someone pls help.. I got the xperia play a few days back but I couldn't create a google account.. Kept saying tht it cud not establish reliable connection to data server.. Help wud be really appreciated..

  • dear concerned customer, 3g video calling is very much available since the very start. i own play and have been on video calling over 3g both domestic and internationally. wonder why gsm arena hasnt updated this yet. and about ics, i know its taken longer than usual, but the gingerbread version with sony's ui isnt bad either, its smooth, swiping around the menu and home screens is quite snappy.

  • adi, try download BS Player at market place.. it can play all format including avi,rmvb,mkv,etc.. all format..already tried.. free on market place wanna ask why my Play screen suddenly awake? it decrease my phone battery life

  • it' a shit smartphone....the front camera doesnt work good...

  • i cant play avi,mp4 video format...i want to play download movies.. pls fix. help..

  • Very worried abou ics update. Sony are keeping an outdated kernel which will kill many possible developments. No word about a proprietary (or other) software to allow 3G video calling/chatting. No official word about camera image compression improvements, either... Customers should not wish ICS upgrade just because other phones already have it. Th problem is that when people are free to do as they please, they usually imitate each other...

  • 720p even with stock camera apps, there is lot more

  • It's on the "Specifications" page: Camera Primary 5 MP, 2592х1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash, check quality Features Geo-tagging, image stabilization Video Yes, 720p Secondary Yes, VGA

  • With the latest update YES. Out of the box NO.

  • very fine mobile phone. gamepad, no lagging, gps, great screen. it has everything you want... except video calls. the front camera is there, but unless you can afford data plans and wifi, 3g video calling just isn't there. that is this phone's main flaw. dommage. maybe ics will bring us video callings ...

  • Hi, I was really exited when i bought the Xperia Play. I have been using it for last 4-5 months. Only thing i am not happy is with the battary life. It couldnt last even 2 hours while playing the PSP standerd games. I think, the OS has some flaws as well. I would love to see some upgrades and pathes comming in for the users. But over all performance- i should say i would ranked it 6.5 out of a point scale of 10.

  • video recording is 720p???? right???

  • ics xperia play vs ics xperia neo v which of these has a better battery life???????

  • Not gonna happen. Sony doesn't care about useful things, only flashy, blingy gimmicks which will give it more market share and visibility...

  • we want video calls as samsung's, lg's, htc's and older sony models have. no ICS gadgets and gimmicks. we want useful improvements to our phones. that's not asking 4 much, is it?

  • Yes, apparently the xperia play will be updated although Ram issues may appear. ICS will demand much more from the already limited RAM... Personally, I am much more interested in User Interface improvements. Is the camera quality going to improve? Are we finally going to get 3G video calls? I sure hope so!

  • Not yet but it will

  • Yes

  • Sony: we want our front-facing cameras to make video calls, not to gimmicks such as "face unlock". Please, grant us 3g video calls as samsung, lg and htc do. We want the gamepad AND video calling: We wish for the best of both worlds.

  • Can it be upgraded to ice cream sandwich??

  • Very Good! loving it more because of emulators. i can play PS games like having a PSP. battery life are nice. mine can stand throughout the day with a heavy usage without disconnecting to wifi plus playing StreetFighter Alpha EX and Tekken3. the only cons for this is the 4 physical button, the chrome fades! Dont forget to buy protectors! in addition the specs is yet still good up to date. GPU Adreno 205 and the CPU is a Qualcomm MSM8255T (Snapdragon S2) Clocked at 1ghz these specs are the same with the Latest Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC TItan2 which are clocked higher by 400 and 500mhz (1.4ghz/1.5ghz). and this is the only android gaming phones with TRUE gaming controls at the moment! enjoy!

  • why my xPLAY screen often awake? it drain my battery very fast! anyone know how to solve this? plzz

  • i have a question: im going to buy a phone on the 20th of this month... and im still thing what to buy? xperia play or xpera neo v? and why ?? please answer ! thanks !

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • i like it

  • i've gone for the xplay and i also think it should have a larger phone memory. neither have 3g video calls. if that is important to you, you'd better choose elesewhere. those are my complaints. other than that, very pleased wirth screen, sound and gameplay possibilities.

  • if u want buy gaming mobile then select experia x2 is better to u .......

  • guys what should i get the xperia play or xperia neo??!i'm a gamer but xperia play doesent have mobile bravia engine or exmor r sensor whic are a must for me!please help!

  • dis fone has no weakness

  • usbotg support? is this true? been searchin over the net but results said it doesnt have one. maybe when ics is available? i hope so

  • greatest gaming phone i've ever use. just the screen become unresponsive with 'non-original' charger.sad coz store near me doesnt have the original one

  • Excellent phone. High fun factor. Plenty of games optimised for the gamepad and still all the countless Android apps and games available. You'll just miss the video calls albeit the front camera. If you find it at a reasonable price, you can't go wrong. It will give you a (fun) ride for your money!

  • +1 Agree!

  • + > An innovative phone. Groundbreaking gamepad and great games. You get a "ps-like" phone, whilst not missing on gps, browsing and other main functions. Good battery life. - > The front camera becomes useless. Too little quality to film or take photos and no video calling available in the phone's software. In continental Europe data plans are few and expensive, so if you're visiting the Netherlands and wish to make video calls, better look elsewhere.

  • yes, the phone has too much bloatware and too little space for games. mine doesn't heat up significantly. the camera should have zoom and it's not impressive in any way. the front camera is useless as the xplay doesn't have 3g video calls. for the time being no word from sony as far as ui improvements... gamepad very practical effective which makes the xplay a very fun phone.

  • Ok i have been using this phone for about 4 months now and the screen is giving up already and sometimes is completely unresponsive, but this may just be mine. Overall it is a good phone and generally works well but it does have some flaws . . . The camera has no zoom and although apps can be used for this they dont work well. Also there is a good number of pre-installed apps that cannot be removed from the phone so this does limit the number of apps you can install which really annoys me especially since the one's i cannot remove are things i am not interested in and will never use.The phone is a little on the chunky/heavy side but thats no major problem.Battery life is good.

  • hi guys...i just wanna ask about is any of your xperia play heating on the back?my xperia play sumtimes happened..and my battery is really quick o drain..i only play game for 10 minutes, and after standy for 6 hours, my battery lost of quarter bar... is my xperia had a problem? apart from that, xperia play is the ultimate tool for portable entertainment device..!!

  • is this phone only for att or does verizon have a version

  • How exactly would you do that?

  • Yes, it can be

  • can xperia play be link to a normal TV

  • Get your money back, BUY xperia play and have left over cash :)

  • depends what you're using your phone for. if you love playing games on your phone than you need read no further. buy the xperia play. if you are using your phone to listen to music, take pictures etc. that keep the arc s. another thing is the xperia play is considered to be bulky. even thought it does't feel bulky it is something to consider. hope this helped. Vect :-)

  • In India, 3g actually came in pretty late, so most people don't have the habit or even know of video calling. And while the 3g implementation here is still pretty crap with poor speeds and connectivity, it's not that expensive in comparison, for eg. a monthly data pack with 1gb of usage would cost about 7 here. So most people who want to make video calls could actually just use software which makes it over the data plan. 2G (edge) is even cheaper, while obviously not fast enough for video calls, it cost ~1.4 for 1gb, some providers even have 2gb for that much, per month.

  • I just bought an xperia arc s,, should i trade it for xperia play?

  • @ Julian: Very wise and sensible opinion. Although I also wish video calls "came back", I find it hard to believe and I'm very sorry for it. @ Anonymous: Atually, in Iberia (continental Europe) my Vodafone plan (NO advertising intended)is as follows: 15 Month including unlimited Voice and Voice callsa to phones w same price plan (useful for the family). Internet Access/Data Plan - It's an extra and you have to pay an extra 5,56 per month to get 100Mb (also per month). Calls to other operators and home phones are charged from the 15 you pay monthly. I usually end up with money left, but not enough to pay for any data plan. My older Vodafone Sony v630 still works and allows video calls, my relatives Window Mobile HTCs And Android Samsung phones. All have native video calls, but me. Actually, I have taken my older sony to make video calls, which is something we do quite regularly amongst friends and family, or whenever we travel or go on trips to somewhere new.

  • That sounds completely different to my UK contract with vodafone. I have a 500 minutes unlimited txt and 500mb allocation. I can call anyone in the uk with the "voice" minutes, landline or mobile, txt are standard txt, but my 500mb, I can use that for 3g video calls through say skype. I'm not arguing, i'm just not aware how sony used to do video calls, I personally just can't see how with a plan like mine it is an issue to somebody.

  • this model have great applction but not include video call..even cheaper hp have that..why this happen..

  • allright, thank you so much..

  • I agree. Google, as MS or Appple try to reach the absolute monopoly forcing users to buy products exclusively from their sources, stopping consumers from using their phones to the max (theoretically, because they might do something wrong), still forcing them to pay for branded products as if their were fully useful or functional... Having removed 'automatic' 3G video calls, or FM radio, we are actually paying more... for less. We are being forced to pay for things that used to be free... That's capitalism for you!

  • Hey! You don't have to worry about ur phone to be scratch resistant! In the box you will get a Screen protector for your phone and to your phone full protection you can get Hard gel case for Xperia PLAY to your nearest store or online store.

  • the screen glass appears to be the same glass as was on my samsung galaxy. I haven't had any scratches on the screen yet.

  • i'm owned n it's cool 4 now...hopefully i can upgrade it to 4.0 gingerbread

  • I can't understand why sd data of most games is non-resumable ??? Google is sick. It should have made this simple thing mandatory for the developers. Alas, still can't enjoy my x play to the maximum.

  • are you sure? oh it's so disappointing..

  • no, it is not scratch resistant

  • download an upgraded version for video calls in Xperia Play

  • whether the display of the xperia play is not scratch resistant glass like the other xperia lineup? because I do not see it in the specification. please someone reply to my question. thanks before.

  • does skype 2.7 supports video call for xperia play?

  • i have the same issue...first time i used my xperia play when i got it and checked the camera, turn the cam to video mode the flash flickers..also, when i use an application (dolphin browser) and watch videos, the phone will just suddenly reboot all by itself..and it heats up very fast..but it's still working well

  • Could any of you pls lemme knw the pros n Cons of xperia play? I m interested in buying this cool gadget. Does it ve any issues? Saw some users were conversing abt 'FLASH FLICKERING' problem in this mobile. Sorry, I could nt get wat the problem is. Could anyone pls xplain what it is? Does all xperia play gadget face this flickering issue? Please update me asap., Thanks in advance. Caio!!!

  • cant use my skype video call, globe postpaid here,

  • From our POV maybe not, but sony does have something to lose by developing video calling. It takes effort - labor and time to build a working 3g video calling framework, and sony would probably be focusing more on new-fangled tech like floating touch and transparent plastic. They've only recently really taken off with their current android lineup and weren't doing so well since the walkman phone (~w810) era. And their priority would be to grow and establish a large customer base. What do you think would be more attractive to a potential, new customer. Video calling or ultra-cool transparent plastic?? After all this time, it looks unlikely that they will look at introducing 3g calling, especially with newer internet technologies coming out, but you never know, maybe someone in their dev team might have some sense after all...

  • Actually, in many countries you pay about 12,5 Euros per month and you get unlimited voice and/or video calls for all the numbers that share that price plan. That means the 12,5 are the money you have to talk to other people whatever their carrier/service provider. As far as Data Plans, you'll have to pay 5 for a max of 100MB monthly (Vodafone). That means that you haven't got any chance to make a video call AND still have the money to call your friends "outside" your price plan. In fact, you end up with 7,5 and 100MB to make video calls AND surf the Web for a whole month, and you can make all the video calls you wish to the same price plan, whilst to other phones/providers you'll pay 0,65 per minute. You can see that is is much more practical, much easier and less complicated and above all - it is MUCH cheaper to have 3G native video calls as we were used to have (in older Sony and in WM phones, for example) and still have in most HTC,LG and Samsung Android phones. Sony has got nothing to loose if they introduce video calling in their phones. If you prefer to install a 3rd party programme, or if it is cheaper to make them via WiFi, then fine. I just wish all other consumers will have the chance to keep something that is very comfortable and affordable and that allows them to make video calls, to every 3g phone w. a front camera, wherever they are, to whoever they wish. No one will loose anything: It's actually a win-win situation.

  • I don't understand, you say data plans are expensive. Yet without a data plan the networks will be charging you per mb for 3g video calls, rather than a set monthly cost of say £5 for like 500mb (£500. surely this is MUCH MUCH more expensive.

  • According to this post: we might receive an update to ICS end April/early May

  • how to install psp games on xperia play can anyone tell me that

  • Last i read somewhere that ICS for the play was to come out 19th march, but nothing so far... :-(

  • Hey Guys im going to by Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY. so i just want to know, any one had any issue when you using this phone

  • Any news about ICS release dates? New functions and improvements? Are we finally getting "native" Video Calls?

  • why my phone cant play video in default player.. but can play on realplayer.. my phone can view images on gallery but when want to share, the screen blinking.. same thing happen when i open fb apps on my phone..the screen blinking too..but work ok if open fb on web.. i use PLAY 4 month already and this just happen last week.. can someone help me? sorry broken english.. :)

  • I have experienced this aswell, when you have the light on video mode there is a flicker every second, like led is too bright for the battery to handle.

  • Also wish video caliing gets included in next update. Other than that, very happy with this phone. Great games and fast. Both fun and useful. Highly recommended.

  • Android Market is now "Google Play":

  • where can downlod some games

  • Just to vote FOR on the Video Calling poll. I also wish I could keep on enjoying my "pre-paid" video calls as there still is a front camera available to do it. Anyway, isn' that why front video cameras first appeareed on mobile phones? To allow users to enjoy video calls, 'on the go', immediately, whenever and wherever they might be?

  • Are you sure you don't have a program running in the background that is forcing your flash to flicker? If you are, then RETURN your phone. Write down a complaint. Stand up for your rights, as you've got a faulty phone. That phone's got aproblem and that is why Sony provides consumers with an international warranty. It is never normal for a phone to have its flash flickering for no reason. You're spending battery and shortening the led's life. Actually, you're shortening your phone's life. They have to fix that phone. ASAP!

  • No problems with my flash flickering on my Xperia Play. Problem I have is with predictive text, as I add words but when I try to use the new words in SMS message they don't show.

  • i got my phone a month bck, since den my flash flickers continuously i evn tuk it 2 a service center where dey said that dis fkikering problem is there in all d handsets, is anyone 1 f u facing a similar problem?? is there any way 2 make dis problem go away??

  • Just read @ Sony's Xperia Play Official Blog. Let's follow the example. Dear Sirs, I would like to ask for native video calling in future OS updates. Video calling as we were used to having and still remains functional in other brands Android phones just requires a software implementation. Not everyone can afford data plans. Wi-Fi isnt available everywhere and it is a costly privilege im many places. Therefore, 3G out-of-the-box video calls as we used to enjoy in older Sonys phones would be a great advantage for present and future users. I am sure you realise how popular and common video calls are in many countries and how important it is to consumers to be able to place a video call anywhere, anytime, without further worries or needing to install 3rd party programmes. Granting 3G native video calls to our phones would surely boost Sonys sales and not the opposite! I do believe Sony ought to understand that REintroducing video calling on their phones will only benefit them. It will mean higher sales/profits; more buyers and keeping/gaining happier customers who wont consider buying or changing to another brand phone simply to regain something useful, cheap and comfortable that theyve grown used to. Thank you very much for your time and attention. Best Regards.

  • It's sad, really, that we 've purchased an Xperia Play, but need to use/change to our older phone whenever we know we're going to need video calling. That is my case. I've stated it in Sony's Forum: That is the closest to Sony responsibles, I've thought of to make my voice heard. I believe all Sony consumers who wish to have native video calling (again) should complain and express their views publically. Sony ought to understand that REintroducing video calling on their phones will only benefit them. It will mean higher sales/profits; more buyers and keeping/gaining happier customers who won't consider buying or changing to another brand phone simply to regain something useful, cheap and comfortable that they've grown used to.

  • there is a site called consumercourt.in there u can fill forms and petitions against wahtever ur complain is

  • Hmm, i'll have to do a search for a good place to voice a complaint. Mailing regular sony customer care won't do, they will give a canned response that 'sorry but this feature isn't available for your phone' and the issue won't go any further. It needs to reach someone who counts and can do something about it. Anyway, it will need a few thousand complaints at the very least for them to even consider doing.

  • "But one way to force the issue is if everyone emails sony directly, they may see the demand and add a patch for it." I'm all for it. Is there an email address, Site or Official Forum where we can sign such petition? I also wish Sony will implement native video calls on their phones, as others brands have implemented and as older Sony phones used to have. Let's get video calling back on Sony phones!

  • I'm also waiting for the new OS (and Kernel) and for a new US (User Interface) in which Sony will include video calling capability. *fingers crossed* I'm not holding my breath, though...

  • Sony seems to be focusing more on useless widget and custom UI development like timescape etc. instead of working on really useful features. I'm not very optimistic of them ever implementing video calling in ANY of their phones.

  • i dont know which to buy??? paly or galaxy s2

  • with ics

  • any upgrades on OS?

  • Yes it is Bravia..

  • That's quite right. Getting video calls in our Xperia phones would cost nothing but a bit of software work/development. If HTC, LG, Samsung and other brands have made it, there is no plausible explanation why doesn't Sony do the same. As far as FM Radio... then Sony would have to include extra hardware to achieve that. That is both more difficult ("construction/built" limitations) and expensive. And we all realize how greedy these compaies are. Anyway, I hope they understand how popular and common video calls are in many countries and how important it is to consumers to be able to place a video call anywhere, anytime, without further worries. Actually, granting 3g "native" video calls to their phones would surely boost Sony's sales... and not the opposite! Don't they wish to be more competitive and increase their sales? Or is Sony just too afraid of Google's strong tentacles?

  • if u want to play games dont take s2 take it much much better then s2

  • should i get this phone or the samsung galaxy s 2

  • Anyway, the reality is that the two most missed features, FM radio and video calling, are never going to be released for the xperia play or any future phones. Just take a look at sony's latest phones, the S, P, U and sola and you will see. At least video calling just requires only a software implementation, but even that looks doubtful. But one way to force the issue is if everyone emails sony directly, they may see the demand and add a patch for it. But fm radio? forget about it. It will actually require an fm radio hardware module.

  • Wow, so many FM fans, you guys probably have some really good stations. As i said, im my country it sux, ads most of the time, rest of the time useless rjs talking crap and rest of the time crap music playing. Why would i waste my time with that when i can listen to what I want? Anyway, I also have an MW600 which has fm radio built in, but i don't listen to it either. When i was a kid, i think back till around '98ish the fm stations were good, we had just 2-3 back then and i had an awesome little fm radio which was everyone's envy. good times...

  • I agree. Native Video calls using our front camera would make this phone... PERRRRRRRRRRRRRFECT! =)

  • dear 2007 cbs bought last fm for 280 million dollars which was uk based and you are saying who listen radio at this age...may be you don't and coz you haven't one. cheers

  • xperia play does not support Bravia engine, but yes after upgraded to v2.3.4 (Gingerbread) camvideo is HD

  • is it bravia engine and HD cam or HD?.

  • Wow, chill, it was a joke. Just that I haven't listened to the radio in the last 15 years or so, it's absolutely crap in my country.

  • Yes. It is 2012. Unfortunate and shamefully, people still die of starvation, and hunger stlll spreads through the world. People are losing civil rights, wahes are being cut, unemployment is on the rise. Not everyone can afford data plans. Wi-Fi isn't available everywhere and it is a costly "privilege" im many places. Having FREE Radio through the phone isn't a luxury. It is THE most common way to listen to the radio for many people, even in what you might call "developed" countries.

  • the play is better than any iphone and is a rally good phone to use i have one and its a sik phone forget iphone this blows them out of the warter

  • It's 2012, who listens to fm anymore? :-P

  • I have this phone for couple of months. This is a perfect phone for me! the touch is smooth and FIFA 12 graphics is stunning compared to a PSP. It lacks a FM radio and the front VGA camera is really awful, the pictures are blury compared to IPhone 4 front VGA camera. overall this is better than a iPhone 4.

  • Best phone ever!!! I like it especially for games..and the battery life is amazing compared with other phones from LG or Samsung...

  • Want to make it perfect? Give it video calls and FM Radio!

  • Count me in: I'm also wishing SONY will provide the Xperia line of phones with 3G native video calling! They have got nothing to lose. HTC, LG and Sansung have made it possible to place a video call to any phone without the need for extra programmes, data plans or Wi-Fi connections. Why can't SONY do the same? That would be the greatest improvement they can provide, with ICS coming up. Video calls are useful, practical and are included in regular price plans. Providing 3G video calls, SONY has the power to conquest a (even) larger market share and keep their customers satisfied and coming back for more. It's a win-win situation!

  • Nice Phone.........

  • I'm having difficulty in unlocking this device which was sent 2 me 4rm a foreign country for networks in my country dat i decided 2 push it across. I'm 4rm nigeria.

  • i wanna buy a xperia play but just want to know that slide for playing games is easier to crash???confuse, need a help...

  • Just made a short Skype video call (about 30MB?) which cost me approx. 4,5USD!!! It's absurd. WIth my monthly phone payment plan (about 17USD per month) I get free unlimited voice ad video calls plus up to 2000 SMS. I can't afford to pay this kind of extra "fee"! When I used my old k800i, I called my family (which had a cheap V630i) via VDF everyday: I placed - at least - 2 video calls each weekend and I "only" paid the monthly price. No extra payments were required. And none of us had to install any extra software. I just phoned my family as I would in a "normal" voice call. That was it. Why has Android gone back? Won't Xperia phones receive software to allow regular 3G video calls as HTC or Samsung phones still do? I hope so, as I am the one who has the latest phone model and the only one who can't make video calls... Sad, really.

  • I really like my Xperia Play

  • I agree with the general trend. This is a fun phone, ready to play that only misses a bit more of internal memory available to install more and heavier games and native video calls. Ity's awkward to miss out on something that we were used to having for free, anywhere and everywhere, withou any hasskes and that now... it's simply gone! Other than that, it's good value for money. Of course, taking it for a spin before buying it is ALWAYS a good idea. Everyone should be able to afford the phone that meets their individual needs.

  • This phone is my dream phone.. It will become superb if it can play also a psp game.

  • R u buying this phone because of radio or a game?????????????

  • Yes. If both phones have GMail or Skype installed and you have a data plan OR WiFi available, you can make a voice call. The problem for many users is that, on the street, inside transports, in a shop, on every street, we were used to be able to place a video call just dialing like a regular call (no extra software, or WiFi, or Data connection needed). In fact, my family still has old V series Sony phones and I still own my former phone(an HTC) and we could/still can make video calls whenever and wherever we want to. It is just like making a voice call and we dodn't have to pay extra for it. With the Xperia Play, I can still only afford to pay my regular price plan - which does NOT include data - and I miss video calls, also because my relatives still haven't got any 3rd party applications to have video calls (they actually don't need them!) and WiFi is not available everywhere. Which means that whenever I think I'll need to show them something (making a video call) I end up leaving my XPlay at home and taking along my older (Cheaper) phone that did have "native 3G" video calling!?! You've got to admit... That's sad!

  • Hi Guys , I like to buy this phone. so, guys i like to have yore opinions & Advice. also wants to know the Price in india ..

  • Does MessengerWithU, Skype and WhatsApp applications from the Android market work on this phone.? And if Skype works can we use the both cameras to make video calls.?

  • d phone is jst so beautiful nd handy

  • Great Phone! Only thing that wants me to drop it is its hardware abilities will be easily shadowed in the coming months especially with the new Xperia S Playstation certified device but no built-in "Keypad" that my Xperia PLAY has. Xperia PLAY is the ONLY (as of 03.07.2012) modern smartphone with a real gaming keypad. It's cool to have people turn their eyes after seeing your phone instantly turn into a gaming console like a PSP Go. Too bad it doesn't really play PSP Games. PSone, GBA, SNES emulators work well on it.

  • Not sure about the "out of the box" thing. But before, I have Sony Vivaz. This phone does not have wifi capabilities so I have to use my prepaid plan to connect to skype.. So I guess with Xperia PLAY even if you don't have wifi it would work coz it would use your phone's network provider's plan or whatever you call it..

  • u need to put a bigger internal memory>>>

  • thx pal~ i already hav this phone for 2 weeks...and i feel great to hav it~fantastic phone~lol =D

  • There are plenty of covers for our phone. Even coloured ones. Actually, there are plenty of accessories, if you google for them. Really pleased with mine. This is really a great phone! Just don't expect video calls out of the box... yet???

  • i tink it excellent love da oldskool t28 i have u8i use it 4 mp4 gona get da psp 1 dhoe

  • is there any plastic/ rubber case for this phone? if yes then can i know where to buy it? thx =) i'm from malaysia...

  • what xperia play will get in ics update? cant wait.. haha

  • many people cannot afford to pay for a data plan and do not have Wifi everywhere. That means that if you haven't got video calls "out-of-the-box", you won't be able to have it in your phone. Being able to make video calls without installing extra programmes in both phones is a plus that people were used to as a normal feature of older (sony) models. It's an awkward feeling realising phones have gotten more limited as time goes by. I, for one, wish Sony realises that (for instance) Samsung's success also relies on having free "native" video calls on their phones. That's a key element for many consumers.

  • it does. via skype. just tested it and works fine

  • You can't go wrong with this phone. Beware: It doesn't support 3g video calling, though...

  • Who asked u ??? No one's forcing u 2 buy it !!!

  • And for all you sceptics out there give it a go. I showed my friends and now they have one too! And the sound quality is so good when liremgmg to music. Well done Sony! Always was a Samsung fan til the Sony play came along.

  • What can I say about the Xperia play? . . It is awesome! Only drawback is the camera quality. But for gamers out there this phone rocks! If you are a PlayStation fan you will love this phone! Please Sony produce this phone with a better camera and a few more features that are available on other phones currently on the market and you will have a big hit! :-D

  • gr8 fone :-) had this seens it come out

  • Yes. Size is not a problem with a phone/console such as the Xperia Play. Lots of fun games, apps, WiFi and GPS... it's got everything a more expensive Sammy or HTC has... except for 3G video calls... Other than that, I can't complain, I really dig this phone! =)

  • This phone is a bit heavy... for a phone. that's actually NOT a problem. If fits your pocket and whenever you slide it open, it transforms itself into a fun games console that can still function as a phone, that has Wifi, Bluetooth, camera w. flah, multimedia player, GPS device, etc.

  • yeah...too heavy,,size is SUCK!

  • your "BODY" is not currently .

  • Please advise what video formats my Xperia play supports other than mp4 (answers from play users only please). Also why does the predictive text not work fully? I have added words but when using none QWERTY phonepad mode the extra words don't show. Is this fixed in ice cream sandwich?

  • slow easy EPIC gaming device

  • Please Sony, grant us video calls out of the box! We want to set our phones free from Wifi connections and expensive data plans. Video calling: THAT what this phone is missing out!

  • We wish for freen Radio and video calls WITHOUT Wifi or Data Connections! FREE Radio wherever we are. Taking advantage of video calling alreadyincluded in our basic pay plans.

  • Hi, can anyone post a link for splinter cell conviction? tnx a lot

  • I''m having great fun with this phone. Too bad you don't have native video calls. You'll need a data plan or a wifi connectionm to enjoy video calling, which doesn't come cheap. Other than that, there's nothing you can reproach here: wifi, gps, camera with flash, hot swapping cards, quick response and, of course, a very exciting gamepad which allows you to play many fun games of all genres. Plus: Gamepad / versatility/large array of functions / no lag Cons: No native video calls Recommended: yes!

  • everyone is complaining about a radio .... just download a radio app off Android store and your problems are solved i have TuneIn Radio and i get every radio station in the world plus Local.

  • thanks for the info.. btw are we can unroot our phone back to normal? just want confirmation before root my Play... tq

  • hey..iheard that this phone cant support skype video call..is that true??

  • You only need to look for an emulator, install it on your phone and then look for games (to be run by that emulator). If you google for (xperia play) emulators you will discover there are many emulators and games available. With the Xperia Play, choosing is the only problem you will face! :)

  • my friends said that we can play GBA and psp games by using this phone.....is it true???....if it is true can someone tell me how???

  • I don't think so. You only need to look for an emulator, install it on your phone and then look for games (to be run by that emulator). If you google for (xperia play) emulators you will discover there are many emulators and games available. With the Xperia Play, choosing is the only problem you will face! :)

  • do i need a custom firmware to play iso/cso games?

  • In the specifications it's written that the glass isn't scratch-resistant. Does it scratch easily.? And also can I install Windows Live Messenger from the Android market.? Cuz I read somewhere that in Xperia phones Windows Live Messenger does't work. :\ If it does can the front camera be used while chatting in Windows Live Messenger.?

  • No radio means sony is trying to get our money both by selling their high-end "walkman" players and by releasing phones without fm radio. It's a pity, but that is what capitalists do: selling the cheaply-produced products for the highest possible price! That's why consumer goods are so shamelessly overpriced.

  • No radio means sony is trying to get our money both by selling their high-end "walkman" players and by releasing phones without fm radio. It's a pity, but that is what capitalists do: selling the cheaply-produced products for the highest possible price! That's why consumer goods are so shamelessly overpriced.

  • It's not hard I used superone click but u need the adb USB driver installed on your pc first just google it and download instructions are on xda good luck

  • No phone and no video calling. It's a pity that Sony keeps trying to sell both phones and portable players with (Android) phone-like specifications. That's why Sony's MP4 players cannot make phone calls and phones won't have radio. That's capitalism for you...

  • Try before you buy! Whenever choosing consumer goods, I try to read (unbiased) reviews from different sources, visit different shops and - if possible - talk to people who've purchased the gadget I'm planning to buy. Hands-on experience is vital, as it allows you to experience the product and see if it fits your needs and expectations. I have never had an Iphone, so I won't comment on its pros and cons. The Xperia is fun and useful: it has got everything you may wish for (except for video calls, which is a BIGdisadventage IMO), and has a strong support user-community. Good luck with your choice!

  • hey..which i should buy??..xperia pro,neo or play??...pleasee because the price here quite same

  • For those in the UK, this phone is only £149 in o2 stores, for 8gb version. £199 for 16Gb. Both on payg. Guess they are clearing stock:)

  • is this phone future proof? as it has an older cpu and gpu?

  • I believe Sony does not want radio on its phones as a strategy to keep on selling their walkman devices. Take a look at sony's new new walkman Z-series player specs: "This Device will have 4.3 Inch(800×480) multi-touch display,1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 Dual core Speedy processor, GPS, 16GB internal memory, which will run on Android 2.3(Gingerbread) and full access to the Android Market." It just doesn't make phone calls! ;) I also think it's a pity not having radio on this phone. But the thing I miss the most (which I had on my old se phone) is "native" video calls. Having a front camera and not being able t make video calls without a data plan is really a pity and a waste of (paid for) hardware.

  • Agree too why no radio? Has stereo speakers and a quality set of headphones, very odd as most SE devices do have a radio.

  • Totally different type of device, PLAY indicates games, 3gs is old technology. X Play is a heavy device, but very good, has ICS planned update. Choice is yours, doubt you could find two distinctly different devices though.

  • Which phone is better xperia play or apple iphone 3gs 8gb. I want 2 buy one of them. Pls reply soon. Thank u.

  • this phone is really awesome. the battery life is good, fair market price and performs really good for gaming. just had this phone few weeks ago and im lovin it

  • Tis is a great phone. Fun to play with. Too bad it doesn't support video calls out of the box. Skype and Gmail are not a solution, I'm afraid. So, unless Android 4.0 supports it, many people will keep away from this otherwise versatile, really fun phone.

  • I'm also wondering why the SE Play has no Radio. It's a simple but great option... :(

  • thanks 4 d answer... i want to root my PLAY but in all thread i read it looks very hard to do..

  • i like it..............

  • I'm simply amazed on how good the battery life is for this device. It can get me through a full day with at least 3 hours of hardcore gaming and still have juice left in it. I used to have a SGS and HTC HD2, neither had battery life close to this. Of course, you'll need to install a custom kernel, like DooMLorD's and install some tweaks, but it'll pay off fast. I've got this "Playstation Phone" overclocked @ 1.6GHz since day one. Got all my nice Playstation games on it with FPse, an emulator you WILL want to buy. Don't be scared by the 400MB internal memory, use Amarullz's app2SD and you can use any size of ext partition to replace your internal memory.

  • Yes. You may update a rooted phone. As far as Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)there aren't many certainties, yet. You'll be able to update any phone whether it's rooted or not, but you may end up loosing administrator privileges ("Root"), which means you'll probably have to go through the process (once it's available for ICS phones)once again. Bravia engine software mods are only available to rooted phones and - apparently - are only noticeable when watching video.

  • got this phone 2 weeks ago and its awesome! planning to upgrade the os to ice cream sandwich once its available at se service center in my place =)

  • i own this phone for 3 month.. want to ask if we root our phone, what will happen? are we still can update to ics? and how do we install mobile BRAVIA engine in unrooted PLAY? someone pliz answer...

  • Great specs -great gamepad - fair price. That's the Xperia Play. This phone is bound for success. Let there be games!

  • I hope more games will be developed and optimised for the current Xperia Play. This phone is full of potential and still has plenty to offer. We shouldn't be always expecting the next model without taking full advantage of current models. The Xperia Play is a game-oriented phone that deserves more and better games.

  • will sony ever make xperia play 2.couse if they do i would be so cool haveing a dule core in it. but i dont belive that they will make one any time soon since they are relesing the psp vida

  • how is the battery backup of play.....n will it give bckup of 1 day if i play all d time??? plz reply guyz

  • really a good phone. I had it yesterday and its great, but the battery is easy to get low.

  • Amazing phone. Simply one of the best. I´m just in love with it. Sony Ericsson and Android are a good choice. For this price level you can´t find anything better.

  • I can't understand why this phone is so underrated. It's original, it lets you play like no other and it isn't as overpriced as some Apple's, Samsung's or HTC's euivalent models. The concept behind the Xperia Play is both fun and original making it a phone that isn't similar to any other. In a grey world where all phones seem to imitate each other, the Xperia Play was a groundbreaking innovation that I believe should be recognised and praised as such. Otherwise, consumers will keep on accepting more of the same, allowing manufactureres to "do new with the old" and getting obscene profits from it!

  • what firmware does it use? is it the same with the normal psp's? does rpg games work? do i need to have a custom firmware to use iso/cso games? does it lag?

  • no u cannot.. only multiplayer from a play to a play... :)

  • hey!do you know if you can play on multiplayer with a PSP ? thanks

  • at low yatt you can get it as low as rm850-rm890(ap set)bundle with 8gb mem card. For memory card kingston 32gb you can get it for rm135-rm150. Already use it for 3 month. It was a g8 phone.

  • Yes you can transfer all your files from one to other sd card except if you make a partition on your sd card.

  • I really like this phone. Not a brilliant screen, but nice resolution. The phone isn't too expensive and it delivers what it promises: very fun to play with, GPS and many "adult" features, sucha as Office, imaging tools and others. With a 32GB card, you'll store everything you need to work and play with. Too bad there isn't video calling, albeit there is a front camera.

  • Try & change your Liveware Manger Settings bro...

  • yes, u can

  • That's what I meant: Sony's Xperia Play, as many Android phones, doesn't support native 3G video calls. Unfortunately, you'll have to sign up a data plan (pay the extra cost and be limited to the inclusive data) and install third-party programmes to be able to enjoy video calls, now. We've actually gone backwards in time as far as video calling availabilty is concerned.

  • at the moment the latest android version is 2.3 but it might get the new 4.0 upgrade.

  • wanna ask if i change my 16gb memory card with 32gb.. can i transfer all the data from old memory card include the game data? anyone pls reply...

  • 2.3.4

  • The Xperia play doesn't have native video calling. You'll need to install some app (gmail, skuype) and then you'll get video call over data which - in europe - means you'll have to get yourself an extra data plan and, eve then, be very careful with traffic limits.

  • I'm gonna buy this phone in a few months and I'm just wondering, what's the latest Android version for the Xperia play?

  • You are right, Very True Bro, I feel the same like you, But Xperia PLAY also play some hardcore games :) good graphics, my only problem is RAM, but amazingly even though when I'm starting a high graphical game when around 100mb RAM available, but the game never lags.... Great JOB by SE waiting to see Sony's Xperia PLAY version...

  • First,i doubt with this phone, till i heard news from xda that playstation suite is coming really soon. Then does sony will port some of PSP game titles. 2 Days ago,i bought this phone, and i really satisfied, fully satisfied for sure. This phone is the n1 solution for people like me..who are gamers, but not want to get handheld gaming device such as ps vita. I have a job,so i retired to be hardcore gamer, maybe all of my friends in the office would laugh at me if i play ps vita in front of them..:p

  • i have this phone and i hate how it goes into dock mode when plugging in an auxhiliary cord or headphones. i have to turn it off and on again to put the screen back to normal. how else can i turn off dock mode without restarting the phone?

  • The Xperia Play doesn't allow you to make video calls via native 3g without a data plan. You'll have to pay for a data plan and install a 3rd. party application to get video calls.

  • You need to be subscribed to a service provider to get 3G NETWORK connectivity. We often call this kind of service a data plan or network plan. Gmail and Skype depend on having a data plan. In order to use Skype, you need a little Skype Credit or an appropriate subscription. None of the above are needed on regular 3G Operator video calls: You just dial a number and select whether you want a voice-only or a video call. In Europe, people pay operators two kinds of plans: > a "obligatory" voice/video call plan (which obviously includes) SMS. > An extra Data Plan, which they pay separately, and includes traffic limitation and allows them to use Skype, browse the Internet, watch Youtube, etc. That means that most people use video calls without any extra program, app... or payment: They just dial and select video-call. You used to have that on older Sony models. Nowadays, Android has assumed that everyone has a data plan and tries to sell their google-related progs, so it withdraws that possibility from "google-dependent" phones. The result is that brands that include video call capability on their phones tend to be more successful. Just take a look at Samsung's sales reports...

  • "What you always have is video call over Data connections, such as Gmail or Skype" Which uses you're 3G...

  • There ISN'T voice call via 3G. You can't just dial a number and select video calling like in the old(er) models. What you always have is video call over Data connections, such as Gmail or Skype, but that data plans are expensive in Europe as you have to pay extra for Data (and, even then, with strict traffic limits). Android doesn't originally include that feature. Samsung and HTC, to name but two, do provide that - in some of their phones -as part of their proprietary firmware/software capabilities. I hope Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)will include 3G video calling (although, unfortunately, I doubt it).

  • Around RM900-RM1000..but try find price update on Mudeh.com..still it Limited phone in malaysia

  • You can play live holdem and zynga poker..

  • yes there is video calling as i own this fone and use the feature, what amkes u think there would be noi video calling if there is a front camera?

  • this is one good device, specially once you've rooted the device. been spending most of my time playing and surfing the internet using the phone. w/ the help of antutu cpu master you'll have unlimited gaming experience. worries about the warranty? simply flash it and the root is gone and back w/ your warranty. theres more to expect specially when the ICS comes out for this device. a phone worth the risk of spending all you have.
