  • Might be the best Sony Ericsson clamshell ever made. Fast, reliable, quite hardy, too. Did I say fast? I meant FAST. I have my Z550 for three years now and I have already bought another spare one for future use, when the actual one dies. Doesn't seem it's about to kick it anytime soon, though :o)

Although I am thinking of buying a new one, it is not because it's not working proberly anymore but just because i would like somthing a bit more modern. As a "first Cell" for a 4th grader it it defenetly suitable. only problem is the charging because you can't use a regular charger but need to buy a special sony ericson one.   • yes you can connect your Z550 to your laptop by data cable and using pc suit for internet browsing....firstly you install pc suit in ur laptop..den connect your phone by using data cable...now ur laptop takes the modem from ur phone...after taking modem go to sony ericsson pc suit>communication>new connection>packet switched data>sony ericsson z550 USB WMC modem>write connection name and tick all the options>tick use setting from existing entry>choose access point name which is saved in your phone>userid and password keep blank>finish...

  • This phone is amazing , i have it from may 2006. It works very good, the clock is excellent, i don't need to update, it remains only 2 or 3 seconds late in about 1 year(verified with time.windows.com) And the correction is about Memory Card supported, I have a Sony microM2 with 4 Gb and works very good, it's a little slower when i turn on the phone, but it's working. I have 2000+ mp3's at 64 Kb/s.

  • well demikid8 remember the passcode you have put in this phone z550 bec. if you don't remember it even you put many sim card or your sim card taht you have used in this phone z550 that will not open, bec. my phone too has passcode but my passcode is 0000 so its easy to remember, so i suggest remember the passcode you have put in this phone z550 bec. that's impossible that you have tried 0000 and 1234 but its not working ok and if it does not work again have it fixed in a shop and they know what to do...

  • I had this phone for over a year and just recently I gave it away to my friend. However when he got the phone and inserted the SIM in the phone stated: phone locked or something similar to that. I have not setup any passwords or whatsoever. My friend tried 0000, 1234 and other default codes but they all proven ineffective. I gave my friend my old SIM and surprisingly the same message was shown. The number of digits that I can enter as the 'phone code' ranges from 4 to 6 digits. Thanks!! Urgent!

  • I own this phone for 2 and half years.. very nice phone. GPRS is fast and nice . I almost used 900 hours data time. now I had a problem. when I try to connect GPRS it hangs and restars automatically. same happens when using inbuilt browser or java application.   • I've been using Z550i for two years now. Extremely reliable phone. However I got a surprise. I have installed/deleted many - 10ths of J2ME applications on the phone within these 2 years. And recently some of my favourites - including Opera 4.2 mini have begun to malfanction. I reinstalled it - the same problem. Then I did a hard reset to the phone. Was surprised to find out that the free memory is not 25 but 27 MB! After that installed Opera 4.2 again clean. Works like charm now. I guess somehow the phone application manager got currupted. The questions is why 27 MB free memory, I clearly remember that upon purchase it was 25 MB? Huh?

  • I've used this phone for 2 years+... Still working strong! I've thinking of getting a new flip phone but this Z550 just doesn't go wrong in any part, to be replaced! It fell on the floor a few times, one time even on the road during a heavy rain day, still it's running ok... I always think flip phones are vulnerable but this one just proves me wrong...!   • I suggest try turning on the night mode eventhough its daylight or night! this will help you make your camera much better!!! and try adjusting the pixel of your camera by pressing the plus volume buttom...

  • love the phone been using it for a year and half now and its still rocking... the only fault i would find is that the display screen gets scratched by the keypad and the audio volume is too low(not quality) trust me i dint use this phone I abused it !!! dropped it a million times using with a 1gb card no slow down nothing no problem at all.. highly recommend it !! I have no idea of changing my phone :)

  • Yes, Happy man, antivirus software is not required for a Java-based phone, as at least in Sony Ericsson phones such files will be stored in the "Others" folder, from where the file cannot be opened, so there is no chance of a Java-based phone getting infected. Hope this helps. PS: I own a Sony Ericsson W810i.

  • Dear Mandar; If you want to increase the brightness of your phone in the dark put it in NIGHT MODE or when you are taking pictures just adjust the brightness of your phone by pressing the volume button that has a "PLUS SIGN" ok! and about the KD player to increase the volume of your kd player just press the "UP BUTTON" after that press to the volume button that has a "PLUS SIGN" to increase it more higher and if you want to decrease the volume of your kd player press the "DOWN BUTTON" and after that press to the volume button that has a "MINUS SIGN"...

  • The Z550i is decent for a mid-ranged fone. Been using mine for 17 months now, and it still works just fine no matter how often I drop it. Maybe the premium aluminum exterior helped. lol. Music quality is above average and can compete with the Walkman series. Of course the camera sucks when you take low-light photos, but if you use it on the beach or any well-lit area, the quality can compete with 2.0 MP fones. For a mid-range fone, this one is at the top of its class.

Pros: Great value for money, earphones can be upgraded for a high end music experience, camera is litterally 1.3 but can compete most 2.0 mpx, software compatibility is awesome(everything works). besides these major features, battery life, display, looks and feel is also good Cons: Scratches start appearing after an year, phone looks ugly!

  • It was a great phone. It lasted me 17 months. In the last couple of months, charger stopped working, the thing where the charger goes also stopped working. Problem is i turn it on and after max of 3 minutes it turns off, sometimes it turns off straight away. I bought the new battery, however the problem stayed. Can anyone recommend a substitute, as unfortunately you can't get it anymore, well here at least. Its such a shame as i absolutely loved it.

  • Phone is problematic... If you close the fold too hard, screen blanks out! Just shuts off... Returned it... got tha same problem. Had a nokia 6131, close it how hard u want, never shuts off. Guess sony is just inferior quality. They should probably stick to making other electronics.

  • My Z550i got hit by a car. Everything is working fine, and the only consequence is that my battery cover fell off. Incredible phone. Really endurable, and it also has all the functions I need. Memory slot is a cool thing, it has a great screen, keypad is one of the best I ever used. Camera isn't anything special, but it's ok for time to time use. The phone would be even better if it had stronger battery and if it was louder while ringing. I recommend you to set your screen brightness to 70%, sa your battery will last a day or two longer (depends on the use).

The camera of this phone is good to it's not that bad and what I like most of this phone is that you can take picture in an instant which is so fast and you can add frames too and I think this phone is ver competetive

  • Ive been reading through the opinions here and many people seem to be complaining about the quality of the camera and that it its very bad. You are getting what you pay for. Its a cheap phone. It works well. If you want a phone that takes fantastic photos, buy one thats more expensive or has a higher megapixels. Its only 1.3 so the quality wont be that good. You know this before you buy it, so you should complain about it.

  • Ringtones issue: It could be that there is a problem with that specific song's MP3 encoding etc. I have over 40 MP3 tracks (and a few WAV) and I can use ALL of them as ringtones Maximum messages: I am not 100% sure, but I think it can store a total of about 500 messages, 250 in the INBOX and 250 in the OUTBOX. Again, I am not sure about this, it is just an estimate.

  • I have been using this phone for over a year now, and I have to say that it's never let me down, except for the camera. I'll get back to that in a bit. With the phone comes a Sony M2 64MB memory card, which was a nice surprise. The phone's ringer is quite loud, enough to alert you for a call every time. The headset supplied with the phone is very good. If you turn the volume all the way up, it's very loud, enough for you to enjoy music 'properly'. Overall, the menus, contacts and media files are opened very quickly. It's not like Nokia phones at all, which take ages to open a simple contact list (even the new N-series ones). The phone is very quick and responsive. I've even played trance tracks in the media player that are 2 hours long, but it still plays them fine and forwards/rewinds them properly as well. So there's no problem with the software being slow. One thing I did notice is that when I set a profile picture for my friends, everytime they called it took about 1-2 seconds to load the picture after I opened the phone. I didn't like that so I removed profile pictures. Now we come to the camera. The camera in this phone has the most abysmal and useless quality I have ever seen. I am NOT exaggerating. There is a bad camera phone, then there is a VERY bad camera phone, then there is the Z550 camera, which is a bad joke. Unless you are shooting in very bright sunlight or in a very well lit room, the picture will be very, VERY grainy (picture noise), sometimes so much so that it is hard for others to tell what you were shooting. Fortunately for me, the camera was not my primary concern when buying it, so I was still happy with the other features, but if you are buying the phone ONLY because of it's camera then DON'T!! The camera is not good at all anytime after sunset :) Thought I'd mention what I did want out of this phone. I wanted to get myself a decent phone which would also double as an mp3 player, and that is what I use this phone for. I am using a 1GB M2 memory card with it for storing music etc, and it suits me just fine.   • I'm actually disappointed in this phone for 2 reasons: 1)Ridiculous sms limit at around 180 messages despite the fact that they take so little space. I keep getting this annoying warning telling me that I'm over 95% of my sms limit and I constantly have to delete messages to make way for new. I had 900 sms messages on my old Nokia phone and not once did I have to delete anything. 2)Can't zoom into pictures AFTER you take them - which was handy feature in my old Nokia phone. That said I admire the phone build and the amazing battery life. Also the interface is quite nice.

  • I bought this phone 6 months back. Its design and software Interface is the best. Camera is average with no flash,very good during daytime, but bad under dull light. But its still better than Nokia's 1.3MP cameras. Battery life is unbelievable. the only problem is that memory card is costly.

  • Just after i bought this phone i went camping and a big flood came over the tent, the phone was underwater and mud for 2 hrs, i dried it for 3-4 days and then it worked perfectly, without any problem...and the metal case can protect it more than a plastic case so i think its a great phone!

  • I bought this phone about a year ago and its still going great. Battery life is exceptional. I usually have to charge it every 3 - 5 days (i have it on 24 hours a day). I find the sound great - its not quite (like some reviews have mentioned). The two little silver buttons on the side make the volume go up or down - when its full its very loud. Mp3 quality is great - of course this all depends on the quality of the acutal mp3 file. The radio reception is great. You do need to plug in the hand's free (it acts as the arial) but you can put it on speaker. It is very easy to go through stations. Camera is good. Its only a 1mp - but you cant expect more than that for the cost of this phone. You can dress up the photos with fancy frames (choose a frame, a cartoon and take a picture of a person's head to go in the space!) it makes hilarious results! :) This phone is definatly worth the money. I only paid $199, and i've seen it for under $150 now!.

  • I am not really sure of the inbox capacity. only the saved messages folder has a low limit. I remember having more than 50 sms in the inbox. And Rick ofcourse it does play AAC files.

  • i have had this phone for about 10 months now. pros- easy to hold. easy to use the keypad. good camera quality during daytime. never had call drops. it hanged only about 8 times. (i use 1 gb mem card. my bro's nokia 6630 would hang whenever it wishes). fm sound quality is great. overall stability and value for the money. cons gotta forget about camera at night time (unless the light is damn bright) poor sound output thru external speakers. (i sure would miss calls. but when i use kdplayer java application sound output beats w810) only operamini could help you on browsing the internet. i miss edge as i use gprs heavily. cant rely on the pc suite phone mode. i am using bluetooth software for pc connection, internet. thats all i can think as of now. final words- i never regretted my decision of getting this phone. if you are a person who wants the maximum features in this price range and dont care about high quality in any one feature, get the phone. p.s. if you have any issues with the pc suite try uninstalling completely and then reinstalling. good luck.

  • Well I had this phone for a half a week. I have to say I was a bit disapointed when I first saw it and noticed how light it was but I was very wrong. It has tons of features for it. I have suncom so I just had to insert sim card and I was using it right way. Pros- -SUPER LONG video time like over 10 minutes on just the phone's memory alone, not including a Micro M2 Cart -Great smooth Games, can can play 3D ones -mimimize radio or MP3 music player -great quality outdoor photos -good graphics for a phone -great make you own ringtone system -easy controls -Tons of downloadable online content like themes and games Cons-(Not too bad though) -you have to buy the expensive $20 USB cord with Z300a if you don't have a WiFi Router to use bluetooth to connect to your PC -Have to buy a micro M2 cart -Indoor Photos can be very poor quality if Lighting is not super bright. I tested and found out usually the bathroom light is bright enough to take high quality pictures indoors. Other than that I find this an awesome phone even of I can't use all the features yet. I will post more when I acquire a Mirco M2 cart and a USB cable.

  • Does anyone else find that the keypad scratches the screen when closed? Mine has an imprint of the keypad of the screen now. So do my other two friends who have this phone. Sony Ericsson says that I caused the damage, even though it is obvious that the phone's keypad is scratching the screen.

  • I dont recommend this phone, I have had this phone for about 1 year now and i have had problem after problem with it and sony ericsson is unable to fix it for me . the camera is terrible quality especially for outside and nighttime. The charger is flimsy, i have had problems with sending and receiving picture messages, receiving phonecalls,and the mp3 doesnt work properly and now it wont play my video clips or show my photos ! or allow me to take new ones! out of 10 i would rate it -1 because of the above reasons .

  • Bought the phone after reading pretty much all the posts. About two weeks now. Performance is satisfactory. However, can anybody clarify the following:- (a) Does the latest firmware update (from SE website) increase the handset volume (ringer and conversation)? (b) I notice there is a photo sharing s/w and a couple of others more in the update. Do they take up further memory? In other words, just how much is the performance enhancement of the phone after the update?

  • Had Nokia N73 currently selling anyway bought this Z550i for wife 6 months oe so ago noticed a real cute flip so picked one up on eBay new AUD$114.05 + extra wall cahrger + 1gb card BONZA have had it now about 3 weeks and I know what all are saying he gave up a N73 well let me tell ya unless you really need a camera or all the whistle and bells this Z550i is fast processing and has all that one needs in a daily useable unit I just just love its simplicity and looks are neat. One big thing over the N73 size the Z550i fits better in the hand and the pocket :)

  • A 7/10 phone... Good comfortable Key pad, decent Sound and music quality... But Camera is quite sad. Z710 would be a better choice if you are willing to shed USD 80 extra (Related to W710, just that the fitness app, hence the motion sensor, is absent)

  • You cant turn off camera sounds, it doesn't matter if you are in silent mode or not. Nice little phone, but after about a year or so it starts to go downhill. However, I use my phone frequently and do not treat it very well.

  • bought this phone abt a week ago and am pleased with it. there's nothing that i dislike strongly about it though there are a few features i would like. 1)display of date on front display 2)longer ringing for calendar events 3)selection of date for tasks from calendar just like for calendar events instead of keying in. Not sure why people are complaining abt it's ring volume. I find it deafening. Heard that the latest firmware available on SE website solves this problem. but print out the PDF instruction first if you intend to update 'cos i heard the instructions in the updating software is not very clear. btw, i don't think you can switch off the shutter sound but you can change it to one that is less conspicuous. Just click "more" when in camera mode and change shutter sound.

  • u asked for it... -the camera is a bit crappy -flip mechanism gets a bit stiff (I dont know if it happens with all of them) -after putting mem card, gets a bit slow -not brilliant reception -rings quietly Otherwise a great fone

  • rubbish phone very weak in picking up cells. when nokia and motorola have 2 bars z550i has no service. dont buy this phone unless you live under a tower. Battery life very poor as well

  • I used this phone from almost 7months... no major technical issues. Only problem is with the keypad and screen... within 1 month... the screen is spoiled with the keypad.. ppl say to close the phone soft but still it is worse... whole screen had keypad impression :( another issue is with the flip... soon its getting loose... rest all ... this is the best phone

  • As far as the speaker goes in these phones its not as loud as the W810i's (i think thats the black one lol my flatmate owns it) however nor is it unhearable like people are making out. It will play music at a rather loud volume and it rings loud enough for me to hear it even when I'm out. However if you want a phone that acts like a boom box there are other models that are better.

  • i recently bought a Sony Ericsson Z550i and i think that it is very appopriate for someone of my age... (im a teen) it has everything that i needed, Bluetooth, good quality camera, and a mp3 player. however i think that it should have come with a memory stick instead of me having to go out and buy one with my own money... the sound quality isnt very loud but it still plays the songs i like at a reasonable volume. so if anyone wants a good quality mobile phone at a reasonable price, (i got mine for $198) then the Sony Ericsson Z550i is the way to go!! ^^

  • I think this phone is good, i have had it for 1week, and its really easy to use. The Sound might not be very loud, but it works very well with headphone more than speakers. And very cheap for a phone that includes Bluetooth, MP3 Player and a 1.3mp camera / video

Go to your official service center and upload it fur free. The main issue are about the Camera and sound quality.   • @ matthew: that phone u got was of likely 2be lo-quality.. its normal 4 the phone 2 auto switch off at times 2 regenerate but it shudnt change formats simply by cleanin the screen..

  • I bought this Z558i 2 weeks ago..previously i was using SE T630, the phone(Z558i) jst ok and the features inside was good and impress. Everything jst fine for the first 2 weeks.After that, problem approach , the phone will turn off automaticly and sometimes when i jst open it will turn off, and i try to clean up the screen with the soft fabric then it access to the write message menu... Have u all experience the same problems..? Is it this normal problem for Flip Phone..? Anyone can advise..?

  • I had this phone for about 2 months and one day it just kept vibrating and the screen had nothing, but the mini screen said select mode, so I took out the battery to shut it up and now it dosent even turn on???

  • @Darkray I don't think that it is peeling; it is probably just 'polishing' - so it's becoming smoother because it's rubbing the fabric in the pocket.

  • this phone was a waste of time for me i never had so much trouble with a phone before..it was hummming and buzzing and eventually i had to take the battery out to stop it...took it back got a new one and then it just froze up and had to take out the battery again...it never came on after that.

  • Yup, I agree that this is a wonderful phone. It is a surprisingly very capable phone despite its low price tag. Multi-tasking abilities is excellent. I can play MP3 in the background while playing games or create messages without any noticeable lag. MP3 decoding quality is very good as well as with the built-in equaliser. These days, I use it more often as my default MP3 player instead of my Samsung YP-T8 so that I need not carry so many devices around. My only 2 complaints after more than 6 months of usage are that as I listen to MP3s more than 5 hours per day, the battery life can get depleted really fast, like just over a day (otherwise, it can actually last for over 4 days!). And that the black matt coating on my phone is peel off, revealing a shiny black coating. Otherwise, I love the phone.

  • This phone is definately worth getting i have had mine for more than 6 months the only thing i would suggest is to get a memory card other than that it is perfect.

  • have had this phone for approx.7 months now, Havn't had any problems with it except that the ring volume is pretty low, so, a good buy at a descent budget , but if you are one o'those keen on using ur phone like a landline, then id say u have an amplifier fit to the phone else always carry it around.

  • I'm very decepcionate,does not work the phone function during file transfer ! If someone calls you this time phone is off ! Do not accept "gif" file.Photo tranfer from computer will be reduced into 5k ! Belive ! I dont recomend.

  • well... i think that its a good phone and it looks so nice.. the key pad is damn nice to use... I think that the phone is worth it for the price I paid which was RM780. However, im just concerned about the low batt life of the fon which is frustrating at times... And the memory card which I think very costly because I paid RM300(1GB) for it... the camera is not too bad...

  • hi, friends, i dont understand wat's wrong with u guys this is really a good phone. only thing is use it in a right way. its true that when u are accustomed with nokia, its difficult to use initially the ericssons but in two weeks ull enjoy every of the feature. the cam and sound clarity is genuine. i throwed it several times in anger because of my girl friend but still its working. not that single reason the data transfer rate and the usage rate is also good. comparitively other than all the phones z550i is really good with an affordable price. its more user friendly and the features are awesome. only one thing i wish is , for cam option if we would have a choice to use the entire display. fine then. have a happy calling bye joe.

  • duhhh .... the volume button is on side of the phone ... uve gotta blind if u cudint see dat .... n all the buttons on the rocker are customizable ... answering a call!!! how much simpler cud it get? .... if u cud handle a Samsung n a Motorola, this ones a cakewalk. i switch phones (various brands) quite often. n this ones 1 of the easiest to use out there. u think otherwise stick to a Beeper dude uve gotta b a dud ... none of ur comments hold ne weight ...

  • SE makes the worst phones of all the companies. It's so hard to find the volume controller. I guess you need the manual for that. They still don't get it. Make it simple with one buttom talk and answer. If I can't use it right, how can an older adult use it. I switched to Samsung two years ago and would never go back. Motorola is good to because you can assign the buttoms.

  • hello eveverybody i m using z550 i found many problem with this phone. 1)low battery life. some user has opinion that it has good battery life.for them i want to say just check out the official website of sony Ericssion and compare it with other phones battery like k750 which has 9 hr of talk time while our phone has just 5.5 hr talk time 2)its sound is very low as compared to any sony Ericssion k series phone. 3)after puchasing i found that this phone is costly too. ipurchased it in india@7400 . i found that it doesnot have data cable.i went to purchase it from sony mobile shop.it cost 1200.while the better feature phone like k 750 comeswith only 9600 Rs.and this phone also has 64 mb card,can play rm file. 4)our phone also does not support flash wallpaper(this type of wallpaper changes as the time changes eg"if the wallpaper is about sun and building then in morning it seems to be rising as the day grows sun seemsto be more brighter and at night there willbe sunset and buildings will have its own artificial light."

  • Maybe I'm not lucky, but I bought a z550 and had some problems. The first time i tried to play a game (don't remember the name), the phone simply locked up, the screen became white, and I couldn't do anything else, not even turn the phone off. I removed the battery, and then put it on the phone again, and the phone didn't turn on. I went to the shop where I bought it, they exchanged my broken phone for another brand new z550. The next day, I made a video of about 30 seconds. When I tried to play this video, for my surprise, the phone locked up again, the same white screen. I'm going to the shop again tonight, and I will not take another z550.

  • The great: Incredibly beautiful design. Sound quality superb. Features are basic, but the interface is extremely user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. Handling calls couldn't be easier. The good: The calendar & task list are nice. It has a good tetris-like game. The buttons are a joy to use. The so-so: Battery life is average. The not so good: The camera could be better.

  • After reading rave reviews, I finally bought this phone. Ive been using for a month now. Pros: Looks, price, quadrapop is a nice game, facewarp is fun too, sound is so-so. Cons: 1.the camera sucks. It's worse than 1.3 mp camera of any other phone. I had read that it's bad, but I never thought it would be this bad.Low light, bright light, you name it, its bad! None of the pics I have taken are worth saving to a PC or sending a friend :( 2. the battery sucks. I used a humble nokia 1600 before, a full charge lasted me a good 3 days. With z550, it lasts me max 2 days, even with just simple sms and calls. 3. M2 card is twice the price of other memory cards, including grey market. Anyhow its not worth buying one unless you're keen on charging your battery constantly, if you want the card for songs I mean. And my phone gives me a funny sweetish-metallic smell. I dont know if its normal or the battery leaking, although there's no heat or smoke or liquid coming out of the battery. I would really appreciate it if anyone can fill me in on this. Anyhow, not a terrible phone, atleast my girlfriends say it looks great :) But dont expect too much from it.

  • i just got this phone today but something's puzzling me. when there's an incoming call,the ringing starts off really softly for 1-2 seconds and then it gets louder to the preset level(i set it to the highest level).but when i play the ringtones on 'setting' they sound just fine(maintain the same level of voume throughout).i tried using different ringtones but the samething happens everytime. is there anything wrong with the speaker?

  • Don't think that I am a pessimist. I have purchased a SE Z550 cellphone but it worked just a half a day and its screen turned white and then turned off and will never turned on and I couldn't still use its guarantee services. Of course its shape is very wonderful.

  • Yes. It's normal that behavior. With my K750i the same thing happens. My previous K500i used to behave the same way.

  • Hi Shaliron, I downloaded the Handset Manager for Bluetooth (MA-720). But can you tell me whether MA-720 is a normal bluetooth dongle? When I try to install the handset manager,it asks me to plug in Ma-720, whn i plug in my bluetooth dongle, it doesnot recognize the device & I am forced to exit from the installation. Kindly advice..waiting for your valuable suggestion.

  • It's a great phone i'm happy with it. Only thing i noticed is it has problems with service when i'm near computers or in the buildings/stores where there is a lot of technology around. Calls just drop and/or you can't hear anything. I'm with Rogers not sure how it would work with another company.

Should be self explanatory, but if you need help, just ask. @Zila You should return the phone and ask for a new one because it should be under warranty. @harshad During a call, press 'More' and the option to record the call should be there. @ken19 Yeah, that's me ;) But the camera is OK at best. If you want some samples, go here: @rasta In my version, I received a pair of headphones, phone, and a charger. No data cable or M2 memory stick. A 64MB memory stick is found apparently in the newer batch, but I can't be sure. @gil brother I reckon the earpiece is loud enough. But I'm not sure in comparison to the 6125.

  • i think that this SE model is a bit slow compared to samsung's clam shell phones. When i open the screen, it lags abit, turns white, then only the display comes out. besides that, the application also loads a bit slower. Samsung still has the better tech for flip phones, imho.

  • This phone works fine, I bought it for one of my kid's with a 1 gig M2 card. The card has an adapter so we use a PSP to transfer files The only problem is he keeps using the remote control function to mess around with my PC while I'm using it. I have to pull out my bluetooth dongle. D**n kids.

Even I experienced the same..and I tried for almost 2-3 hrs but in vain. Finally I went back to the stores from where I purchased and they opened it for me. Once you insert the batter pack, then the cover slides easily. But without the battery pack, the cover fits very tightly.

  • @praveen I was thinking about the master reset, but it is very important to backup all the files. I don't know if the master reset will bring back lost applications though. But I'm sure I've seen it on the Sony Ericsson members download area before. @deek I honestly think this phone is better than the Nokia 5200 because: -The screen is much better and brighter on the Z550. The 5200 has a 128x160 CSTN screen and the Z550 has a 176x220 TFT screen. The TFT screen is used on phones like the W810 whereas the CSTN screen is inferior to even the screen on the K510. -This has a better camera. 1.3MP compared to the VGA camera. -This has more (4x) internal memory and it comes bundled (on the newer batch apparently) with a 64MB M2 card. -This is smaller and lighter. -This has a better battery life. -The music quality is equal to or better than the Nokia's. And switch to Sony Ericsson is fine. I moved from Nokia and I haven't looked back. Sony Ericssons are very easy phones to use.

  • @ shaliron i dont know if it works. but, try to back up your personal things stored like phone book, ringtones, images videos, messages etc., and try the master reset available in the settings menu. it resets all the phones software status to intial mode. dont worry, no harm will be done. if the face warp is provided with your phone software it will return back. other wise all the softwares you have with your phone will be reset. Anything you personalised even java games will be removed. So, don't try it without backing up your personally update things in your phone. If it works just say thanks. if it doesn't and you really need the face warp, try software updates from dealers or the internet.

It must be a fault with the phone. @anonymous Well, maybe the Sony Ericsson site will allow you to download it, but I can't find it under Z550. You may need to search under other phone's applications. Otherwise I don't know what to suggest, other than googling. Best of luck though ;)

  • Hello, I just got this phone and tryed to connect it with laptop using bluetooth. After trying few times i got errors and wasn't able to connect to laptop. I changed GSM card to another one, a different from the first one. After changing GSM cards, it connected perfectly with bluetooth to laptop, no errors moving files and other things. Any suggestion what could be wrong with the first GSM card? I thought there shouldn't be any difference for bluetooth considering what GSM card is inserted, as I don't connect to internet or something, just using bluetooth to connect to laptop. And about the phone in overall, it's pretty good, I like how it looks, the feel in hand is really good as well, menu is easy-to-use, no stupid useful things that u wouldn't use for ages. :)

  • @harshad This phone is much better than the Z530. This has a 1.3MP camera, the other has a VGA camera. This one has a 176x220 256K TFT screen and the Z530 has a 128x160 65K UBC screen. This phone is also smaller and of higher materials. This phone is no doubt better than the Z530, so don't hesitate to buy it :) @juja The phone mechanism is very secure.

  • I am happy with almost all features of Z550i, except one about setting reminder & setting birthday reminder. If I want to set Birthday reminder, then why the hell I have to set starting time and ending time. Again suppose if i want to get reminder about some thing then also i have to set starting time and end time. I dont understand why sony cant make it simpler like Nokia. Can any one comment on it?

  • @Raghavendra The new firmware does not increase the volume. The speaker itself is probably not powerful enough to produce a loud sound, so a software upgrade will not increase the volume. Firmware upgrades are generally for improving the speed and stability of the phone.

Even in the manual it says that u wud have to buy the card separately. hmmmmm. the shop guy said that the previous z550's, they were not giving the card. I guess they started packing in the card too, which is pretty decent of them. As for the phone, nice display. i feel that the volume of the phone is low, even when its set to max. cheers.

  • @Raghavendra I use K750i data cable. everything works fine. plug the USB and Z550i let you choose 2 option, Phone mode or removeable drive. I don't need any driver to activate this function.

  • This is one phone which has every thing one needs Mp3,FM,1 Megapixle camera,good looking and memory card slot Micro only problem it faces is with it's software it is fast but has problems it is not suitable for it please be sure you do not buy this phone which is manufactured before december let me give you a hint Dont buy CASINO ROYAL LIMITED phones they come with this problem they usally get hanged they get currupted automatically for my case i just switched my phone from normal camera to night mode it got currupted. this problem can be rectified just give some love to your near by service center they will get you new software for free.

  • I think you'll need to use the PC Suite to transfer files to and from the phone. The PC Suite installs the drivers for you. If you need help, I'd suggest to go to www.esato.com because there are a lot of people there who know a lot about Sony Ericsson phones. Register and post a topic to ask for help.

  • the latest firmware doesnt do anything. no full screen while video playback, i think keypad lock in clamshell is not necessary. major problem with this phone is Low speaker, u cant hear in traffic.( hope next update will be fixed). mp3,video playback is excellent, even FM is gud. cam quality is average.

  • @anna You'll have to use a data cable. @real random man For durability, I'd suggest to get a bar phone, as all flip phones have the risk of breaking. This phone has a fairly durable flip, but I'd suggest something else without moving parts, maybe the K750 or if you want a flip phone, the W710.

  • Hi Rajeev, The external screen should display the network strength,battery status,clock etc when it is active, ie when you CLOSE the flip the external screen becomes active with the above mentioned details for about 30 secs. With the flip OPEN nothing would be displayed on the external display, it would just be blank with the bluish-violet light. Also if you have enabled standby-clock, then in standby the clock would be shown in inverted mode.

  • @Amit, Mobile is not an magnetic device, though it emits Electro-magnetic waves, RF to be very specific. It is due to these radiations, you see the disturbances on the PC monitor. But rest assured, it will neither leave coloured spots or the picture distorted on your monitor. Whereas, if you bring a permanent magnet near the PC monitor, then it will definitely leave some sort of coloured patch on ur screen (temporarily)

  • To all, 1. SCREEN Unlike other SE phone, u can't using camera with landscape mode, can't preview picture with horizontal style. Overall, Z550i has brillian main display. 2. MEDIA PLAYER in some reason, MEGA BASS produce POWERFULL sounds( not loud,but solid). I, personally require MEGA BASS in the phone to be classify as music phone. 3.CAMERA THE WORST 1,3MP PHONE I EVER HAD!!!

  • Hi Hema, I also had the same confusion before buying the Z550i. Though Z550i doesn't have a good mp3 volume but i assure u that rest of the features are pretty good, espesially an awesome camera at this price. Also its memory can be extended(upto 1GB). On the other hand the W550i has a higher volume but it does not have an extendable memory(256MB). So the choice is urs whether u want to listen many songs with a lesser volume or a few songs with high volume. Its better if u go for a Z550i & later have a 512 or a 1GB card inserted. It will fit ur budget. My suggestion would be to add another Rs.1000 & go for K750i(2MP camera).

  • Hi Hema, I guess with this budget you can go for Z550i, which is really an excellent phone except for low ringtone volume. Or else you can go for W550 (walkman)..all other walkman phones are above Rs10000. @Anonymous, The rays appearing on the LCD of your phone when taking snap of your PC is quite normal, it is due to the slow raster scan of the CRT of your PC monitor. So dont worry and happy clicking!! ;-)

  • @Raghavendra I haven't upgraded to the next firmware. But I doubt it. To enable ringtones through the headphones you turn the phone to silent. @sai ganesh RDS shows basic station info about the radio station that you're listening to. Station name or song playing. Depends on your stations.

  • @Man You can't use the card in most card readers unless it is Memory Stick duo compatible. Then you have to put the adapter on the M2 Micro card that should've come with the card when you bought it. @Anonymous I can hear it outside, but on a busy road, I don't think so.

  • Yes, the volume it too low..chances of missing a call on the street is very high. Also the earpiece volume is quite low, so in a noisy surrounding you will not be able to hear to the other party. I have this cell & am facing this problem, even though I have kept the ringtone volume as well as earpiece volume to the loudest level.

  • @ying The battery can last up to 4 days with light usage. It can get up to three days with moderate usage, and two with heavier usage.

  • @MZ No prob ;) @Venu Go to Settings>General>Master reset>Reset Settings to reset all the settings on the phone. If you choose Reset all, everything will be deleted off the phone that you have added (photos, ringtones etc.)

  • @MZ Sorry, it might be a little late now but I'd say the Z550 is the best for you. I does look better, but it does have been keys for texting, and the music player is much nicer than the K750. It basically has the same mp3 player as the Walkman phones with a different colour. But the camera is far worse, and the K750 still is the king of all 2 megapixel cameras, so that is quite a feat to beat really. Also, the Z550 has a slightly larger screen and the user interface is better. Some improvements are the use of profiles from the power button and copy and pasting text from messages etc. Ultimately, because you are going to listen to music more, the Z550 is more suitable, even though the max storage limit at the moment is 1GB (the K750 has 4GB) The cons are the lack of flash (for using as a light cos it doesn't really do much for photographs) and the camera's overall quality. The camera is OK, but it really could be better. Also the battery life is not too great, the K750 is better. And finally the loudspeaker isn't terribly loud, but it does have a stronger vibrate.

  • Hi guys, I'm going to buy Z550 tomorrow morning. I got to know that the price difference between Z550 and K750 is just 160... So should I really pay a little more to get a better K750? Does that make a big difference? I really like the look of Z550 (my main point of buying it), and is quite bored with bar design. I use my mobile phone mainly for (in order of frequence) 1. sms 2. call 3. games 4. music 5. photograph I'd appreciate it if Z550 users can share with me frankly the cons of Z550.   • @Raghavendra Well, the backlight doesn't actually turn off, but it does fade is what I meant. On all Sony Ericsson phones, the backlight doesn't turn off during a call so I doubt that the firmware can fix it. The Sony Ericsson website is wrong. It can only show time. And the speaker is just quiet. There is not bitrate in which the sound will get louder, we'll just have to live with it. @adam Well the interface is better, but Megabass is just an extra, and I personally don't like it but some do. Overall, the media player is better because it is more like a real MP3 player; it shouldn't be judged purely on if it has Megabass. @anonymous It has video recording. There is no limit to how long the video clips can be, only the memory.

  • Shaliron,the media interface is better than the one that k750i owns,but don't forget the sounds quality.k750 has MEGA BASS, which makes sounds roar perfectly. you miss this point,mate. Don't u think z550i is suite to girl? even the sterling black still reflect feminity. You will found flower shape decorated the box.

  • Shaliron, as mentioned earlier 1) during a call the LCD (internal screen) light glows continously till the call is disconnected. If I update my firmware will the LCD light go off after say 20-30 seconds? 2) On the sony website, they have mentioned that the extnernal mono screen displays DATE & TIME..is this information incorrect? 3) I tried various ringtones..but the volume is low. Could you tell me what bitrate songs should I try? Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Shaliron, 1.The number issue I mention earlier is if you incoming call is 12 or more digits(India/Airtel they deliver called id as +919845688962),so in th eexternal display the number for which you don't have the phone/SIM card entry ,starts rolling 2.Similiar unwater results can be seein in the caller list menu also where you can see numbers dancing to show the number in 12 + 1 configuration. 3."newer menu over the K750" - What is the difference 4.MEmory card being inside the phone itself reduces the possbility of sharing and ease of use.(keeping aside the price part) 4.I don't remember the options.But when I got to the menu->internetsetting, I see a different menu getting listed with select & more button display in the screen missing,but still works-So a display/menu posting bug?

  • @Madhu You don't need to lock the keypad on this phone because it is a flip phone. @anonymous Yeah, but this phone has no joystick, meaning better reliability, has a better media player and newer menu over the K750. And what do expect the phone to do when a person calls? Of course it is going to display the number. Maybe you've got the fullscreen mode for the web browser on, that means that the select and more buttons are not visible.   • @Man, With the flip closed, you first you need to activate the external screen by pressing the volumbe button once. Then just press & hold the volume button, the channel will change automatically. I would suggest all to refer to the previous messages, you would get answers to your queries there...Man, i had recently asked this question which was answered by Shaliron (refer to the posts below)

  • Kishore, I dont think the horizontal line indicates GPRS signal strength because firstly I have not opted for GPRS and secondly even if i dont get GSM signal the line never disappears..it is sort of fixed. Also in the Settings->connectivity->Preferred network I get a list of GSM network like Hutch (MNC=5),Hutch (MNC=13) etc..which one do i select?? Can any one tell me whether the ringtone volume would increase if I update the firmware? Currently I have kept it at 8, but still while traveling the ringtone is not audible.

  • Subramaniam, I also had the same problem. I bought it when it was launched, with great Expectation from Ghatkopar-Mumbai dealer, Within first 15 to 20 minutes of use it got hanged and after reinstalling battery it never switched on again. On complaining, my dealer replaced it with new piece but of no use as second new piece also had the same problem. So he told me that there might be a faulty batch of production and asked me to wait for few days. Thereafter he gave me Third new piece from new lot of batch. Now it is working fine. Some time it happens with branded companies also but it all depends on Dealer's approach to the customer and your luck.

  • i guess the horizontal line on top of signal indicator is the gprs signal indicator. if you are subscribed for gprs the top area is filled in a triangle shape indicating the gprs signal strength, if not ony lines are shown.if you dont want that line to be displayed just go to settings->connectivity->preffered service and select gsm. within few minutes the line should be gone or if u switch of and back on the phone line will be gone.

  • I don't know what that means, but it does that on mine as well. It doesn't do anything really so I wouldn't be worried

  • Shaliron, it seems daily I am having some or the other query regarding my Z550i. Now I am seeing a horizontal line on top of the network indicator bars on the external display. Similarly on the internal display I get to see a gray box inside which the network strength bars are shown in blue. What could this issue be?   • if u edit and then rotate any pic,its then only when u can see the pic in full mode.,but then for ht u have to tilt ur phone at an angle of 90 degree.

But you do not really have to update the firmware if you don't want to. It is not necessary. All you gain is slight menu speed, and small tweaks.

  • Firmware is the version of software ur phone uses to operate... like i use windows xp.... In computing, firmware is software that is embedded in a hardware device. It is often provided on flash ROMs or as a binary image file that can be uploaded onto existing hardware by a user.

  • @andar Depending on the type of file. If it is a picture, it should be in the picture folder. If it is a video, it should be int he video folder etc. Go to File Manager and have a search around.

  • @Raghavendra Pai I am from Melbourne. I don't think the memory stick will hamper the phone's response, although it has to others. Most people that I know have no problems when putting a large memory stick into their phones, so I wouldn't expect much difference with the Z550. A 1GB memory stick costs around 3500R in Australia, but you should only buy as much as you need. If you only want to store photos, that you may only want to buy a 256 memory card. If you want to listed to music, a 1GB card will hold about 260 songs. To make sure your memory stick is genuine, the safest way is o buy from a proper shop. Don't buy one off eBay or one from a bad store. Also, if you join with www.esato.com, you'll be able to see the photos with the genuine and fake memory sticks here: Normally, along the right side of the packaging, the order of the photos should be PSP, camera, video camera and then laptop. And my Z550 has never crashed before. It is very stable, so I don't think it is a bad series.

  • I purchased this handset a few days back in Mumbai and within 10 minutes of bringing it home the phone hung !! I could not restart it, and the screen went white just like a hanging PC !! Removal of the battery also had no effect and I gave it back to the dealer. At the service centre they were unable to reload the software, so they have agreed to give me a replacement for the handset. Another lady who purchased it from the same store as me faced the same problem. I think this is a problem with a particular bach if not the whole series.

The Z550 is not a smartphone. 2)The ringtone volume is very low, though I hv kept it on max level (8)..still it is not audible while travelling. Choose a louder ringtone. The default Sony Ericsson one is fairly loud. Some ringtones are louder than others. 3)Can I switch off the LCD light while making/recvng calls? It should automatically turn off during a call. 4)Can I lock the keypad? No, because there's no need to because of the flip design. 5)Does the 'S' sign on the battery disappear once the battery is fully charged? The lightning (S) symbol disappears when you pull the charger out. 6)How long shud the battery last (in days) if i just make/recv calls and send SMS?? I've acheived four days. 7) Can i view clips full-screen? No.

  • good phone...to convert ur movies to .mp4 u can use nero recode( it comes with the nero 7 premium pack)...or can use other softwares such as i'mTOO mpeg encoder...both are available for free download on net....just search for it

  • hi neelam, what do you mean when you said for mp3 >> the heavy the file , the softer it will play on the Speaker. do you mean the bit rate or the size of the file. i suppose higher the bitrate better the file quality.

  • Hello people , just read all your issues & will reply to the issues that i knw about. Keypad :- I dont think you will experience an issue with the Keypad because it has a plastic cover on it allready. GPRS:- You need to call your service provider (BPL,Hutch,Airtel,3g.....) & tell them that you want to activate GPRS , they'll send you a confirmation messgae that will create a Internet Profile for you. I think that will resolve the issue. MP3:-The Mp3 plays well in the headset. The heavy the file , the softer it will play on the Speaker. Memory :- Im sure all you people know that the memory can extend upto 1GB , but it is not adviceable to increase the memory upto 1GB - because the more the memory the chances of the Phone to Freeze is more ....... Message Lenght:- In message settings u have the option to use the maximum number of characters .......

  • @ichigo You can't change the front cover, but you can remove and replace the back cover. There might be a way to remove the front cover, but you'll probably end up breaking the phone because it's not really meant to come off.

I'm actually considering between z550 and z710, but I see the major difference (that concerns me) being only the camera, other features seem quite similar.   • @GM No flash for night photos. The keys should last for a long time. I don't see any problems with them. I've never had an SE with keypad problems. The music player is loud enough for me (I don't even use it to full volume).

  • A cool/slick phone. Its delicate but looks sturdy with the metal finish. Easy to use. Still have to load it with mp3 and stuff. Hides in the hand like a magicians trick. Real smooth.

  • Hi people , the reason for a new Post is because i did not go through all the Opinions n Issues .......... Here are some Resolutions to your issues.... Key Pad Lock :- If u have a Flap , why do you need a keypad lock. MP3& Radio :- You can play the songs & min the screen or u can even close the Flap..... The only issue is , if u have songs stored in File Manager , u'll have 2 move it to ur Playlist , if its not in the playlist u cannot play the songs if the flap is closed. Security :- The default code is 0000 Neotha issue , please mail me

  • This piece has a 100% value for money..It has cool,sleek look,dont get back frm what u c in the picture above ,it looks more cool in real.. The sound is loud and clear,the Mp3 player is fine,the only thing not up to the mark is The camera,the pictures taken through its 1.3MP camera contain lots of noise..And the memory stick micro is costly compared to other memory types.. Overall ill give it a rating of 9/10,in tis price range...

  • The keys should last for a long time. And the numbers can't rub off, because unlike other phones, the numbers are printed on underneath a thick plastic. Looks pretty neat as well. The keys are flat though, so it might take a while to get used to, but they are well spaced.

  • Its good in terms of Looks, features, camera, I highly recommend the people who looking for 6600 it is far better than that. Its media player is very good, Battery life is also fine.

  • Hi Guys, got this phone the other day, but the only issue I have with it so far is the volume of the "reminder" tone (Tasks & Appointments). I use reminders a lot, but I can barely hear the reminder when it goes off. However, I can't find anywhere in the phone to set the tone. I can only seem to set "ring tone", "alarm tone" and "message tone" Any Ideas?

  • @dexter 1. No it can't play videos in fullscreen, but I'm not sure if in the newer firmware if it is possible or not. 2. Sound quality is comparable to Walkman phones, and you can plug in the W550 headphones. 3. No. 4.I like black, cos I've got it but ultimately it's up to you. The copper colour is more gold and is aimed more at females, but that really doesn't matter. They both look good. 5. The battery life is fair, I'd say better than the 6600.

  • @saee There is no push to talk on this mobile. What about the bluetooth do you not understand? You can use it to control the computer, file transfer between computers and mobiles, and wireless handsfree.

  • This phone phone does not have push to talk. You can't play the radio without headphones because the phone uses the headphones as the aerial. You can after put the music through the speaker though.

  • I'm using M2 512mb without any problem appear. the LCD quality is definately owesom. Unfortunatelly, the colour tends to fade out(looks like negative film) when u see it from left & right angle. (Problem that doesn't appear in K750i, Z550i, & W800i). about the LCD, be aware to any preasure form outside cover! any push (eg. when opening back cover) will leave black square shadow.

  • You don't have to. You can just close the flip and it'll still work, or you can just press back and it will automatically minimize.

  • yeahp. you can listen to the radio even though the phone is closed. you need to go to the options, and press minimize. =)

  • @help To delete themes, go to File Manager > Themes > Then go to one of your downloaded themes and press C. You can't delete the orginal themes.

  • for me, choosing between the Z550i & K750i came down to 2 main things: 1) camera quality (don't use mine that much) 2) form factor (i wanted clamshell) so here's my summary: z550: way better screen quality, larger buttons but they aren't raised (so spacious but takes a bit to get used to wen typing), camera quality not as great compared to K750 (obviously), loudspeaker not that loud (i found mainly due to it's location on the back of the phone - gets muffled coz it lies flat against the surface), really great design aesthetic, battery life not terribly great, software is similar (actually with a few slight improvements over k750). i do miss the joystick (made navigation a helluva lot faster) but the frustration of it breaking after less than a year sux (especially since everything else on my k750 is fine)... bottom line - a great phone if u want bang 4 ur buck...i hardly used my phone camera after awhile so it's no biggie for me & i really wanted a clamshell that didn't suck... so the Z550 is a perfect substitute for me. but that's just my opinion - it's pretty much wat u want from a phone coz both are awesome! ;p

My Samsung D600 does this and it's a really good feature, otherwise if you miss the short vibration alert you might not realise you have a text message for many hours! Rich

  • I Agree, my joystick broke on k750i too. For a minimal amount upfront I got this one. 1st one was DOA cause the external screen was not working, but the new one is a great little simple fone, what more do you need.

  • Problems in Z550 1.in the xternal screen ,if the incoming number is new,it keeps rolling and you have to wait another 4 second for readign the number when the phone is ringing 2.Memory card too costly 3.Battery life is very average 4.For me, too many missed calls due to the quality of the speaker in a average noisy environment 5.Camera picture quality is very average 6.Voice recorder is average 7.general SE issue,when you see a missed call or received call,the number shows as 2 part .So too difficult to read.It's 2 line display for each numbe and part of number on one line and date are shown and in the next instant rest of the number is shown.and these images keeps toggling

  • i got this phone about 2wks ago now, after deciding to "downgrade" from my k750i...and it's awesome! in my opinion, the simplicity of the external screen is genius. my only question - are all brands of memory cards compatible with it or only sony ones? (also, i live in perth, so if anyone knows where there are good prices, please let me know too) thanks

  • @Pavan B Yeah, but very little. It moves a tiny bit (less than 1mm) left and right when closed but it's pretty sturdy. Nothing that you wouldn't expect, and I know some worse examples of other phones.

No, there's no default ring before the ascending ringtone. Nothing like that. - how long is the charging time from empty to full? No, nothing that long. I think it is max 2.5 hours, maybe two hours, haven't timed it myself but it seems to be pretty fast. - does this phone play mp3 with a quality as good as W800 or other model walkman phone? Quality is just as good as a Walkman phone. It even has the same media player as the W800, but it's not orange and it doesn't have megabass. - does the outer display show misscalls, messages etc? Yeah, it's really imformative for its size. It can show the clock, battery life, signal strength, missed calls, messages, Bluetooth, Java application, whether the radio is turned on or not, whether a handsfree is plugged in, whether a different profile is on and when the media player is on, it shows song name. It shows up to two icons apart from the signal and battery at once.

  • @jamie As much as the highest capacity memory card around is. At the moment it is 1GB, but when the 2GB is released, it'll also be compatable.

  • @all The cover becomes warm because of the metal used to make the back cover. When you hold it for a while, the heat from your hand gets transferred to the metal more easily than plastic. @PATRYK Get the Z550. It has a better screen, camera, thinner and smaller, more internal memory, better music player, better radio with RDS, lighter, and better interface. In fact the Z550 is better at everything compared to the 6125, even looks.

  • to jj: 1- only backlight is on when the phone is open without any text on outer display 2. mine became warm for first charging, but it's ok now.

  • i bought the phone on 12.10.06. Few ?s 1. Is the outer display meant to be off when the cover is open? 2. The back of the phone is a bit warm after some time. Is this normal?

  • Hi everybody, I was buy this phone today and with the blootouth I was try to send an MP3 song. In this moment my phone was swithc off and I can't swich on the phone:-( It's a 4 hours yet:-( Please help me, I'm gonna crazy!

  • its not so great,, also almost all sonyericsson phones have problem to stream videos in full screen mode,also for watching movie clips ..... also this piece is very flimsy and delicate with loat of nice while typing messages,,,

  • @no name You should be able to listen to songs shen the flip is closed. I can. Maybe you should go to a service centre to fix the problem. To change tracks or stations when the flip is closed is easy. Just press the volume keys to get rid of keylock, and then hold it up (forward) or down (previous) to skip tracks. @Reneta Get the Z550. It has a better battery capacity, FM radio, a better mp3 player with unlimited storage (depends on memory card size), MUCH better interface, better camera and it's cheaper. The interface is the main thing though. Motorolas are much uglier and harder to use compared to Sony Ericssons, not to mention slow. Trust me on that one. And the Sony Ericsson has real themes that change the entire look of the phone, not just colours. They even animate smoothly and quickly. There's even a feminen one on the phone which looks pretty good though, I'm a guy... The V3i may be thinner, but it is far too wide and tall compared to the Z550. Z550 all the way!

  • I just bought this phone and find it great value for money. However, i have a few problems that I hope somebody can help me with.I cannot change the radio channels using the handsfree. I have to open the phone. Similarly, the shell has to be kept open to listen to an MP3 song. If i close it, the song just goes off.I wonder if i can change the radio channel or continue to listen to MP3 without opening the phone? The battery also seems to be a bit poor. Almost 85% had been exhausted in a day, with minimal use of the phone.

  • @Lex Thanks :) @soorena & all About the loose back cover, it's really to fix. I just got a piece of cardboard (a tissue box is fine), and cut it to about the size of 3 x 2cm and put it on the left side of the battery, and then close up the cover, and a tight fit! Works very well. Here's an image of how to do it:
