I still use the S700 (June 2016). We use it to test SIM cards for our GPS trackers. It's used weekly for an hour or so. The battery lasts 2 months or more ! Great phone, just dated now with only 2G and poor camera. (2G is what we are testing)

You won't believe it, but i still use this phone, after loosing my iphone 3gs 2 years ago... it's like a punishment for my neglect but it's realy a remarkable phone! By the way i changed it's battery last year and now it performes 100%!

bought this phone in 2005 but the battery gave up on me last 2009. I still have it and it still works but a fully charged battery will only stay working for less than an hour :) I would still love to use it. It really has the solid build and the camera is really great. Even with just 1.3mp, the pictures taken were fantastic. However, the case looks worn out already. The flaps for the SD card and charging port have fallen off. And the silver finish/paint has peeled off on most areas. I dunno if this can still be repainted.

Yeah it's 2013, I bought my SonyEricsson S700i in november 2004 and I've never stopped using it. Other phones come and go but I keep this one, still using the original battery. What's so good? Camera is fast to use and many times better than newer with lots of megapixels. Sound is great, i often put the music on from the phone in the morning and it fills up the room. I used to be able to see all websites on that phone. I downloaded over 100 games, it was great with java. Bluetooth is easy and fast. It has everything. Still use it as extra phone, the alarm wakes me up every morning, cuz new phones can't be trusted to wake me up.

yeah, go to ebay and search for s710 or s700i usb cable. its about four bucks and you can use it to remove messages and store them to your computer. if your computer has infrared or bluetooth, download MyPhoneExplorer (google it, its awesome) download it and use your cable, infrared or bluetooth to move your messages and pictures to free up memory. optionally you can expand your memory with a memory card upgrdae.

Been used since April 2005 till now.Fall so many times till lost count,get wet but still working though i have to dissemble it to dry it.The camera is great (CCD sensor fyi),complete with infrared and Bluetooth just equal to mid-class phone nowdays.Going to try install pdf reader since it does support Java elevate it to the next level.

I have had this phone since October of 2004. Even though this is not my primary cell phone anymore as I have the Google Nexus One now, I must say the s700 is simply an amazing phone. It has been dropped multiple times and it even got accidentally knocked into the water, but it still works like a charm to this day. I am a proud owner of this phone.

My sister has this phone for almost 4.5 years and dropped it like thousand times but, it actually works good as new and she says that she still could not find another phone like this! It really IS a masterpiece! And SE has the opportunity to redevelop this model to higher specifications. If SE does this, S700 is gonna be a winner! I am sure about this! i have had this phone for 4 years too. it looks so beat up already, but the performance of the phone is still good. the only prob i have with it is that when i swivel it, the phone switches off by itself. also happens when i press C sometimes. aside from that, it's strong as a rock.

I got my S700 in 2005 as it was my first SE phone after nokia. in my opinion, the S700 was the best phone in 2005 area. in 2006 i was in a motorcycle accident and my S700 was in a few pieces about 50m away! picked it up, put together and the phone is still working today. battery last 7 days on standby. for those who looking to get this phone, SE does not make this phone anymore.

i had this phone for about two years now... no problem at all. i use a 128mb memory stick duo (wont work with later memory sticks such as pro duo)... to those having problems with the memory card you should format it first (i used my laptop's built-in card reader to format mine... the problem with sony memory sticks is its significantly smaller than other cards. so when you use your laptop's card readers make sure to attach a masking tape or any kind of tape at the end of the card so you can pull it after formatting(no kidding).

I have the S700i and this phone is nothing short of amazing !! battry life is very good ! had it for the past 3 years or so !! works perfectly !! Memory could be a little problem, it doesnt accept GB's lol!! bt who cares send the old stuff out of the phone or back it up on sumfin else !! it is not a walkman phone ;) the sound quality is its best feature i wud say !! compare it to the nokia's of the same class this S700i would out class it !! It is a bit big, bt i wud say the design of this phone wud make that seem insignificant !! The camera quality is very good for a 1.3 mgp !! i stil love this phone !!

this phone can store around 100 messages dependin on shared memory usage, mms takes more memory than sms. oh and sony ericsson claims this phone can take up to 128mb external memory, but somehow my s700 only takes up to 64mb external memory & not 128.

da max text msg's this phone can hold depends on your available memory(phone memory only, not memory card). I had mine almost full wit msg's & it started showin me an alert msg sayin dat my msg memory is 98% full. I think it givs u 300-400kb of memory 4 msg's. so if u recieve or send large kb mms' ya memory wil fill up quickly. da 300-400kb memory covers all msg's(inbox, sent, saved, etc) [my info might b wrong so pls correct me if I am]

Too bad it only accepts DUO memory stick and up to 128 MB only and keypad is hard to use when playing games. For me, this phone rates 7/10.

Ive had my S700i for seven months now. I love it the first time i saw it. It's a very stylish phone and a tough one too. Except for its outer case or fascia. I'm very neat with my previous phones. I had a Nokia 6230 before i had this one and it doesnt have a scratch. But my s700i's silver paint is chipping off after just a few months. And the outer keypad has lots of scratches. But everything else is working great. Oh and you can save up to 80 games and applications combined. But mine has only games its tough to find applications for this phone. Two things more i dont like about my phone is the video (it cant play on full screen) and the message tone (you cant change the default message tones).

use this fone for 2 yrs already nd its quite good. the only thing i dont lyk bout it is that its too big nd not slim enough so i kant put it in mi jean pocket. HOWEVER lately there has been a problem. when i hear through the top where u r suppose to put ur ear against its hella soft but when i put it on speaker, the sound at the bak near the camera sounds fine. i even put the volume up all the way to the max 8. mi fone fell several times already but this nv happened b4 nd mi battery is full. this jus suddenly happened one day....kan any1 help me solve this problem??!!! much appreciated!

my set is going on to 2 years soon. well,got a new battery as the old(first) one is already,end-of-life,can only last at most half a day under standby. well,phone's outlook already bad,with scratches.still working fine(very fine) though,except the antennae pick-up a bit too slow,may take hours just to search and connect to netwrok(unless i am in open space than everything is normal). drawback,it can only support 128mb max memory stick duo,tried bigger mb ones didn't work. since i work in an environment that does not allow camera,am thinking to either let go of it or remove the camera. if i let go,may not know if can still find any in the future.now a rare model. any suggestion?

the functions are still able to meet and in some cases, especially here in north america, exceed other cell phones. love the quality finish and attention to detail.. look at the keypad! and the large screen is great.

ive had my s700 for almost 3 years now.. bought it when it first came out and revolutionized the cell phone market. by todays standard (in canada) it still owns most of them. still more stylish and unique. i love it. only drawbacks is the reception since network is different. the 128mb limited expandable memory also sucks. and the 30 max txt msg for both in and out. wish it had a "switchblade"/spring-loaded swivel like the w900, v80 and couple other phones alike. but yea the shell is literally all scratched up now and the phone likes to blackout on me and the battery is dying quicker. not to mention the phonebook is little messed up displaying different names to different contacts. still a very solid phone. but i think its time to move on, though its hard to part with. maybe a n95....

128mb is the maximum allowed expandable storage, I used it since I first bought the S700, have watched whole movies with it using the 128mb storage, so there is no doubt that it supports up to 128mb

I luv this phone 2 bits, I've had it 4 almost 2 years and i had its software upgraded, which means no more blackouts and other problems. its only setback is the expandable memory, which sony ericsson claims its 128mb duo max. thing is I've tried the 6 different types of 128mb duo's on 3 s700i's and all dont work, but the 64mb duo work perfectly fine, which brings up da question: is the max expandable memory 64mb duo?

Very good phone. Better than my other phone (W550i). Better screen, better camera results. The major drawback is the Memory Duo only slot! No PRO Duos! Therefore you're stuck with 128MB max! Add another 32 phone memory, and that's all you get. Themes include an animated wallpaper. A solid product from SE. Now, if only they make another K series phone with S series LCD sizes and 16M color...

iv had this fone for 2yrs now! still workin but its iv been droping it n stuff lately so it blacks out on me sometimes...buts its nothing too terrible. it still works! n da blakouts last 4 only 5-10seconds at the most. the only think is ofcourse, its a brick! i call it my big mama fone coz its masive. but overall, sophisticated, unique, strong fone. i wudnt recomend anyone to buy it NOW tho coz slimmer fones r in n this is 2 outdated 2 b honest.

hi all i am willing to buy a new cell phone because i have my s700i for 2 years now and like changing stuff. I've never had the same cell phone that long. I've been checking every new model that comes out between the nokia, samsung and se brands. unfortunately I haven't seen any that is worthed changing my s700i. some of them r smaller, other have better cameras, or better web browsing. but overall neither of them seems better than my baby:) so i've decided to stuck with it until there is something better on the market! my advice is- you guys do the same:))))or what ever makes you happy:)))

this phone is absolutly great - price and even for 3 long years, it still stands tall among the NEW sony phones. drawback would be its limited 256MB external mem. but it plays games lovely 240x320 res - and u can swivel the phone to act like a control pad. u can convert songs to MP4 to have MORE music space and the 1.3 mpx takes exceptional phone shots - very good quality with sunny well lit shots. it would be great if SE makes another SWIVEL phone like this!

I absoltly love this phone!! The blue back light is amazing, and the sparkly keys look so cool. I love how you don't have to have the phone opened to use all the functions. The camera is amazing, the pictures, unlike many camera phones are printable quality.

The S700 is still a very good (camera etc.) phone. My only complaint the past 2 years I use the phone (without any malfunctions)is that you can't use Duo Pro, so the number of MP3's you can store is limited.

What do you mean you can't set MP3 as ringtone? Its really easy, just browse to any of your mp3 files, click "More-->Use-->Set as ringtone". Simple as that :)

I've been using my s700 for 2 years now & aside from minor interface flaws, I'm quite satisfied with it. @ron You can install the memory stick yourself, just take it out and put in a new one. I'm pretty sure it supports up to atleast 1gb, so don't be scared to try. You could always sell it afterwards if it doesn't work right? More power to the Philippines, I went back home for the first time since I was 2 last summer.

Hi Jo, I m sorry to say that this handset dosnt support MP3 tones or any other tones as mesg tones except those which are by default in it. U can set screen saver as time but 4 that u need to download software from freeware sites. MP3 in this pphone is not at all lousy as per my opinion. Again sorry to say that this phone dsnt support full screen videos. But after all this, i like this as the best phone ever introduced.

It's a beautiful phone that gets lots of attention unfortunately it has 3 major problems I cannot over look. I bought this phone in February '05. The first problem I notice was the extreme sensitivity of the phone. All phones should be able to sustain a reasonable drop to the floor; this phone is unable to deal with mildest of drops. As I was walking into the store I dropped my phone in a parking lot immediately I noticed a huge and very noticible gash that scraped the paint and damaged the translucent white plastic underneath the artic silver paint. Ever since then I became more cautious only keeping my phone inside my purse which I began to notice major scratches around the outside silver ring of the camera from rubbing up against pens and make-up compacts. I decided to keep my phone in a protection pouch and felt bad and responsible for my phone having deteriorated so quickly. Soon after friends and family began to let me know they couldn't hear me, no matter what setting I altered. I contacted Sony told them about the audio problem which they covered when I brought up the superficial damage to the exterior they said they couldn't cover it but they could replace the faceplate for $200.00. I accepted that and decided I would be more careful with my phone when it came back. A few months later I noticed the paint on the main screen keypad was fading from everyday use even worst the audio problem came back last week. I don't know if I want to send it back to Sony or just invest in a new phone. I'm thinking the new Motorola A1200; does anyone have any news about this phone? I have plenty of Sony products which all have surpassed my expectations but this phone sucks. I just can't believe Sony would sell something with such inferior quality. The artic silver paint is like a thin candy coating; the phone itself is made of the cheapest plastic I've ever seen on a cell. It's unbelievable that such an expensive item is so defective. I hope this message helps in your decision making process.

The beauty about Nokia, is that you can type your sms inside a given sms box in your computer and send it from your computer via your Hp if your Hp is connected to your computer via a USB Cable. It's much better and convenient than using your aching thumbs to press the 10-digit keyboard on your Hp. Sadly to say, Sony Ericsson of any model cannot do this.

Some people say thay can put 512mb card in the S700. This is a bit surprising since I have a S700i with last firmware, R3M008, and it does not take memory stick pro's ; only memory sticks (not pro) which are limited to 128mb...

I bought S700 today.The screen is too big for you to take wonderful pictures. Picture quality is superb.The menu is little bit slow but with all other functions you wont mind that menu is slow. The cover of the lenses protect the lens getting dirt. The sound is quite high. I will definitly recommend this phone.

Yes Memory Stick DUO only supports up to 128mb. The 2 things i'm disappointed about this phone is : i)3D games don't run smoothly ii)there's no fullscreen video play back, which is a total disappointment. I really really wish sony ericsson fix problem (ii). I think that's what's stopping people from buying S700i

you can actually rename the pictures. just make a folder and from there you can rename the pictures on your phone.

from philippines:im using s700i since jan./2005,and i think its one of the best phone i ever had. features: 1)you can only use up to 128 mb memory ( supported ).thats the maximum capacity. 2)you can change the ringtone using mp3's but problem is you cannot use mp3's as message alert tone or the tone when someone texted u. 3)u cannot rename the pictures on ur phone otherwise u transferred it to ur pc. 4)easy to transfer files through blutooth than nokia. 5)its not symbian so u can only have limited applications to install such as games. 6)its not true that theres no limit to capture videos,it takes only i think 3 minutes video covering. 7)nice appearance as digital camera. 8)u can use the flash as flash light. 9)good as radio. 10)i cant install any application aside from games. 11)u can zoom pictures and edit it after picture shots. 12)its a picture caller i.d. 13)my incoming text messages ( inbox )only saves in the phone and not into the sim card.theres no option to save it to the simcard. 14)great cellphone but still its not perfect. if all of u guys have some questions, just e-mail me at [email protected] then ill answer all of ur questions.its me spiderman from the philippines

This is to Ali, 1. yes you can change your sms ringtones, I've changed mines over a period of time and all you have to do is go to message->message alert! 2. I am sure you can watch the picture full sreen coz mine does. 3. Just turn on the silent mode, and you won't have any sound anymore when taking picture because mine does it perfectly. If you still have some problem I would recommend going to the sony ericsson store and talk to the guy overthere to fix this problem. I hope this help! Cheers

I have had this phone for over one year, and it has been definitely the best phone I have ever used. The reaction time of the phone menu is very fast, and it is very easy to use. The only thing to complain is that it's not an UMTS phone. Therefore I have purchased a Nokia N90, but I am not happy with the Nokia phone, so I will try to obtain a W900 which seems to be a S700i with UMTS

I've been using this gadget for 5 days and i like it so far. first of all, it has a perfect display with 262K colors. also the sound quality is great. menu is fast and practical. but you cannot switch between profiles as easily as with a nokia, this is not good. in addition, file management seems to be primitive according to nokia's series 60 phones. to sum up, it deserves the money you spend, it is a very good phone..

Just bought a 128 MB mem stick duo the other day and works great! of course, due to the file management system, I only get 123 MB, but other than that. Everything's cool. I now have 50 mp3's for listening. Make sure that it's not Mem stick PRO Duo that you bought. It should just be plain "Memory Stick Duo"

HI SE USERS! I've been used about 15 nokia n SE phones..i hope this info about S700i can help u all.. 1. Highest memory card u can use is up to 128 ONLY! 2. Small video screen 3. Low sound for recorded video 4. Limited video storage/length 5. Can't zoom and edit pic if u transfer ur pic to new folder! u can't zoom pics that u transfer from pc to ur phone also! 6. Can't rename pic (unless from pc) 7. Can't install any softwares except games 8. Pics are not shown directly in your screen if u download from another phone/pc (u have to open it before u can see the pics) 9. Limited data storage eg. messages and pics. (u have to delete your lovely pics or transfer it to your pc!) ** ANOTHER FEATURES ARE EXCELLENT!!

sorry guys but i've had nothing but trouble with this phone - avoid! firstly it turns itself off at random points when i'm using it, you cant set mp3's as ringtones' in fact even tracks you've downloaded off of voda live dont always work, i've had 2 models now as the first one just ceased up completely and i get exactly the same problems!

I have used the most of models of Nokia. nokia is very good phone but its hard and maby too hard to use . I just bought one SE S700i and I'm completly satisfied!!! This phone rocks, you can write sms or mms or whatever, while the radio or the mp3player is running. The design is cool, the display is ultraclear. The camera is very sharp. It has 32mb phone memory plus a 32mb memory stick. That makes a 64mb memory!! If any questions ask me! greets!

the photo is great!!! becuase its using CCD sensor, from now i just know only SE s700 using CCD sensor, others camera phone is using CMOS. CCD sensor is for high quality image but its use a loads of power and it cost are expensive. the CMOS just use little power and the cost for it is cheap! but the quality of image not that good at all.

Just bought this phone as an upgrade from the K700i. They may be almost identical in the software side, but very different in the hardware area. This phone has superior build quality than most phones! Throw in a superior 1.3MP camera with a CCD sensor (the sensor used in high-end digital cameras) and other features like MP3 support, and you have one great all-around phone. It may not be the best phone out in the market, but it's definitely the best phone suited for me! I'm so happy with my purchase... For those people "complaining" about the memory card: please keep in mind that the S700i supports only MEMORY STICK DUOs (that is, it can only have 128Mb at max). No use waiting for MEMORY STICK DUO PRO (memory cards that can go up to 2Gb) support, as it is hardware-related. For someone who wants to have an MP3 as a ringtone, let me tell you that the S700i doesn't support it "by default". If you really want to have one, you may try looking for other websites that allows that, I know there are some. While it may sound good, I don't recommend it, as it tampers with your phone's software, and you may end up with a dead phone.

Hi i just got v son erricson s700i w vodafone and its alsome ive had 10 other camera phones and this one is far the best the 1.3 megapix camera is so clear and hi quality graphics the video captures upto 2 minutes each time with the 32mb memory stick duo inserted.The phone iooks like an actual digital camera then a phone & feels alsome when shooting a picture or video, anyway pone rules & no probs another thing the screen is huge,colorful & crystal clear becos it has 262,144 colors TFT display & has a high 240x320pixel resolution also has heaps more stuff youll be surprised any Q,s pizz email me!!!

I bought this a few days ago, its been fantastic so far... but i have just realised that max avaliable memory stick is 128mb. thats rather annoying when most mobiles can get up to 2gb cards!! Hopefully sony will bring out some larger Duos like 512mb, 256mb at least!. Im still happy with 128mb + 30 or so inside the phone tho... For now ill just have to buy 2 or 3 128mb cards... I bought this on Vodafone (didnt know about the mp3 ringtone issue beforehand). You can play MP3's as ringtones, you just need to download the "Sony Ericsson DRM" Program. Which will add Digital Rights Management to your MP3's and allow you to use then as ringtones. Feel free to email me with any questions.

i have got a SE S700i and i must addmit it is THE best fone i have eva had and i no will have for a long time, reasons for purchasing one were because i was looking for a top of the range fone with all the usual features but had to have excellant picture and good video quality, which this fones meets. its has the best SOUND YOU WILL EVER HAVE HEARD FROM A FONE Gaurnted and can also adjust Bass treble Bass etc. I would recommend poeple to purchase this fone, but i ahve to say tahts there have been some problems in the past few months when i have using MP3 player for as long time, it would suddenly stop and fail to play, this a software fault which i have noticed and u have had to change my fone 3 times in the 5 months, but no thinking of chanmgein to the K7i but not to sure as yet,as SE S700i is an amazing fone and very hard to beat, which will also keep it value up.

The sony ericsson S700i has the best screen quality i have ever seen on any cell phone, my boss has a P910i, even that screen quality is not as good as this one. The camera is pretty good, but when taking pics without alot of light can effect the pic in a way. the mp3 player is awesome. All in all i think this is the phone to have, the only prob i have with it is the size, but who cares , when its such a good phone

What�s all this fuss over the fact the shutter sound can't be turned off? Even if it�s true, who cares? Apart from the fact that pimple faced perverts might not want the teacher to know they are using a camera in the school, which by the way is at best stupid, at worst illegal. oooooopssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!! sorry for the wrong post! I made a mistake when i said its hard to get the memory stick! It's so easy! just push it and the spring will pull it back for you! enough of the shutter sound issue! my phone turns its shutter sound off in silent mode. But if your phone doesnt, have it formatted! piece of cake! well the kb consumed by the 1.3 mp is the same as the kb/ or memory consumed by k750i. You know why? Its because of the CCD ENGINE of s700i!!!!!=] the s700 pics are super clear even if they're half the size of k750!

Bryja, it really depends on when and where you got your phone. There is no "original" s700... And you CAN turn off the shutter sound by modifying the software on the phone, which voids your warranty however... And you must have big fingers if you have trouble taking the memory card out ;-)

some my problems with this phone....... the numeric keys are really HARD to press. it's quite heavy in closed position. it's loudspeaker aint that loud..or is it? maybe my classmates are just too noisy... the memory stick duo is hard to get! i use clippers to get it! the paint wears off in friction. ........ but it's still perfect ...... maybe less perfect

Dismas is partially correct about the shutter sound... The thing it really depends on is the version of the s700 you have. Different releases of the s700 has different firmware(installed software running the phone) and language packs, which determine if you can silence the phone via silent mode. I believe the older versions of the firmware allowed silencing of the shutter sound. I've also heard that the newest version of the firmware available silences the shutter sound, but I don't know how reliable that is... To change your firmware or disable the shutter sound...you'll have to flash your phone...

Really Really great phone, in almost every way possible. Brilliant camera and vibrant screen... is a nice size to text on, just because the number pad is fairly spread out over the phone. It has also a nice solid feeling when you "type" on it. Easy to operate at all times, and pretty customisable too, but not to the extent that some would of liked. Very easy to connect to via dock, card, infra-red and bluetooth. Superb phone, only fault is perhaps the annoying shutter sound that cannot be turned off, even when the phone is on silent. 9/10 :)

sony ericsson makes good phone, u cant ask anything more from them. i've s700i, j200. my friend got k700/k750. sony is fast in it's processor(try opening a game file), fast in bluetooth, good display, good sound quality, great user interface, good video playback, etc, etc.... i dont understand how come dunno how to install games in their phones~!!! just send via bluetooth~!!! keep going sony~!!!!

I don't know...those are tough choices. The N90 has a 2MP camera which surpasses the S700 AND the E720. The camera is also supposed to rival SE's K750, which is supposed to be the best camera phone on the market today. As for the E720...I'd personally prefer the SE S700 because its design is more unique. However, the s700 is a bit bulky compared to most modern phones. The S700 also features a better camera than the E720 (arguably second to K750), which is an important factor to me. Another important factor is the fact that the E720 has not expandable memory slot. When looking at functionality I'd prefer the S700 over the E720....but the N90 seems to win out. But overall, I'd choose the s700 over the n90 because of the most important factor in my opinion: battery life. The N90 has a rated talk time of 3hrs...which is really poor, while the s700 has a rated talk time of 7hrs. That would be the deciding factor for me because the features on both phones are comparable...

to Dismas : yes, i know the reason, but in fact it's MINE handset, and that's privacy too. Samsung e 720, k 700 in silent mode, does not have this "problem". however samsung don't have vibrate & ring mode (no one know why, probably samsung too)and k 700 don't have megapixel camera! Damn it! is there а phone without manor disadvantages? is it so hard to understand what the common people want? why the advantages in one model can't be transfered in the upper class models? i'm very disapointed from all of the manufacters of handsets! The shutter sound cannot be turned off. As far as I know, this is the case with most (if not all) handsets. I understand this has something to do with privacy. It's a phone, so people might not be aware you're taking a photo. This is why the shutter sound cannot be turned off.

It'd be cool of there was an FAQ here or something. You cannot make the video resolution bigger than it is. You can make it smaller, but not bigger. The maximum memory card seems to be 128MB. As for getting MP3s from places like Kazaa and iMesh, I've had no problems. Just drag them into the MP3 folder on your memory card and that's it.

This fone is fantastic, the camara is the best iv seen yet. The features are perfect. What i really love is the memory card because u can download everythin of ur pc then just transfere it. so no more payin 4 ringtones, wallpapers or even then thems & i reccomend u lot get a theme creator then u can make thems on your pc n transfere them 2 ur fone. this fone is gr8. However ther is 2 major down falls, the size is a bit big 4 my taste but u get used to it. the 2nd is u can only have mp3 ringtones when you have brought them on cd so now downloading off kazzaa or any of them. but overall i urge u to get this phone you will not regret it!!!

I've had this phone now for a few months, and am still as impressed with it as I was when it came out of the box. I know everyone always goes on about how good the camera is on it, well that's because it really is an extremely good camera! The menu is easy to use, the buttons are easy and precise. The swivel function is interesting, as I find myself harly ever needing to use the numbers, as all the neccessary menu control keys can be accessed without opening the phone. The MP3 player is very good too. I also like the keypad lock button for some reason!

I got it 2 days ago and Im in love with it. I had the k700i before so much of it wasn't new too me but the screen resolution is great and i transfered some of my old photos onto it and they look amazing compared to what they looked like on the k700i screen. Some people say its a little big but i think its a comfortable size and because of its weight easy to keep steady while taking photos. 10/10 on features 10/10 on style 10/10 on quality!!

correct s700i only accpets memory stick duo which is uptill 128mb if u really want a fone which uses preo duo look at the k750i which i am thinking about buying and then selling my s700i but the problem is they are almost the same. The plus thing for s700i is that is looks a little better and larger display. I like my s700i i might just keep it.

As we know S700 supports only Memory Stick Duo cards and not the "Pro" ones. And available MSD cards on the market go only up to 128MB. 256MB & 512MB's are Memory Stick Duo Pro type of card. Difference between them is that MSDP has a faster data tranfer and it's not supported by S700 software. For me it seems like only way to use those larger cards is to get some new/updated software on your S700...

I think it's been established that the highest memory card that can be used is 128 MB. However, for absolute confirmation, visit the Sony Ericsson website and get in contact with them. It's also worth bearing in mind that most good mobile phone stores provide a warranty period in which, should you not like the handset, you can return it for a refund or exchange. Ask at point of sale if this is the case.

The S700i does not have a flash, but instead a blinding LED (Light Emitting Diode, or very small bulb) that you turn on and off as you require it. When taken in poor lighting conditions, however, the photos from this handset tend to be grainy and unclear, even with the LED turned on. Unless somone can tell me better there isn't a USB port on this phone because of the memory card feature. Most modern computers provide a port in which you can insert the Mini SD adapter, so if you've got funny holes in your PC that you don't know what they're for, try sticking the adapter in there. In case anyone isn't aware of it, the contact number for Sony Ericsson in the UK is 08705 237 237. It's charged at national rate.

All sorts of problems with this phone that vodafone already know about. phone will send same picture message over and over again andcharge you for it. phone can and does answer the phone itself when called even when locked, when answering phone will not actuallyconnect call for some seconds. plus other faults

Ready for more praise for the S700i? I recently went to Alton Towers (theme park) and decided that before going on the water flume ride I'd remove my phone from my jeans pocket and pass it to a friend with a plastic shopping bag. Well, after the ride, my jeans were relatively dry, but the shopping bag had a nice level of water at the bottom of it, in which my phone was swimming. I removed my phone from the bag and emptied what seemed to be several litres of water from it. It did not look good. After a few minutes buttons were performing function normall associated to another button. Later the phone wouldn't even turn off, and condensation was gathering on the inside of the screen. When I got home I dismantled the phone and placed it inside the airing cupboard with the big emersion heating tank overnight. Next say the phone turned and resumed functions as normal. So, not only is the S700i practical and funcional, it's also extremely durable.

Mauro....SE S700 Memory capacity, it depends on your FirmWare(FW)Version, most of SE 700s now can support upto 128MB.....but if your upgrade FW, you may be able to get it up to 256Mb...but it is likely that FW for 256mb is not out yet......how to check your FW on the phone? email me for instructions.

Mauro all u have to do is use the 32mb memory stick and i transfered the music from the memory stick to the phone. Trust me, buy the memory sticks and if it still doesnt work buy the usb data cable and if still doesnt work call sony ericsson. Why doesnt bluetooth work... that is weird.

As I said, Brad; the software faults seem to vary. Let's face it, Sony Ericsson aren't exactly renowned for correctly functioning software, are they? So far as I know every network has experienced software issues, with at least one network (not mentioning any names) making "modifications" to the programming that cause problems later down the line. Some networks have withdrawn this handset from sale, one in particular so as to avoid a repeat of the K500 fiasco. It's going to be the same with most manufacturers though. There's always something not working properly, for example the reception on recent Nokia handsets has been less than desirable. Truth is, as a phone this does the job. Clear sound and good reception. As a camera it's good, but in poor light or indoors it sucks ass. As an MP3 player, good sound, but not enough memory to hold all your favourite tracks. So you've got to decide what you want most; phone, camera or MP3 player. Decide and then buy it, but don't whinge about what it doesn't do.

I had some trouble transferring MP3s over from a burned CD. They didn't save as readbale MP3s on the memory card. In most cases though it was just a cse of drag and drop. If that's not working for you then it might be worth giving Sony Ericsson a call.

Here's a photo I took with my S700i. This is actually shrunk down to about 75%, just to make it more internet friendly.

Some of that didn't make sense to me, but I think I caught the gist of it. So far as I'm concerned (and of course this is only an opinion), overall the S700i is a great phone. The quality of the camera is vastly superior to many on the market. I've had my photos printed off at a Kodak centre and they were better than I expected. The only time the camera falls short is in poor lighting conditions, even with the light on; the pictures are grainy and unclear. To answer the previous question regarding MP3s, the handset itself has a 32mb memory. I managed to get maybe 5 MP3s onto that, but it varies depnding on the file length and size. It comes with a 32mb memory card which'll get you the same. I bought myself a 128mb card and I got about 20 MP3s on it, average length (3-5 minutes).

hey dismass i just read ur opinion and this reminds me that it happened to my k700i. When i was calling people the screen would start blinking and then i would have to press back or to off the fone. The firmware for the k700i had many glitches but SE took out the new firmware which i never upgraded. Before i had the K700i i had the z600. Let me tell u something about this SE fone. If the camera was better i would have kept the camera longer. It was glitch free fone with style. I really like it but the camera was crap comapred to k700i. I love SE and the s700i is my third SE in a row. I swtich fone every 4 months.

i just bought a S700i and WOW it is awesome. I had the k700i beofre this and this fone is two times better that k700i. Meomory stick rulz. I want to buy the 256mb memory stick. Camera is awesome and phobos buy this. It is cheaper and same functions as the k750 exceot the 1.3mp vs 2.0mp which is not worth spending $75-125 more. Much better fone and worth it.

Could you please help me with some questions about the video and mp3. How long can you contantly video and how many mp3s can this hold. I'm trying to decide out of this and the Samsung p777 that advertises 60 minutes of video and 25 mp3s on 100mb shared memory. I know the s710 can hold a 126mb card, but can the video length be long per clip or does it max at a minute or so? Hope you can help. --- Tetris Oh yeah and can you watch music videos on it? Hi, Brad. The reason I was vague about the software faults is because they seem to vary. I didn't bother explaining the fault I experienced because I've mentioned it before, so next time try reading the rest of the thread before getting smart. But just for you I'll go over it again. Twice when I've changed the default ringtone, the next call I received caused the screen to go black with a white line through it. The phone then rebooted and afterwards worked fine. I've chaged the default ringtone several times since and experienced no further problems. My colleague experiences the same fault when accessing the SE WAP site.

Hey All I bought the s700i (aus made) a few months ago on vodafone... ive only every had one problem with thew phone anf that is txt messages not coming through and the phone saying that the "sms is corrupt" however i believe this is a vodafone issue Otherwise, it is one of the best phones on the market for the same price range.. AWSOME camera, every one envies my camera (have friend with d500, nokia 1MP...etc) and the SE cam is by far the best as the screen resolution of 256K compliments the cam. as vodafone barred using mp3's as ringtones, there is of course ways around if if you hunt around the net like it did.. i also eventually found a way to uoload full screen games onto it.. of course it is vodafone branded but download a theme off the net and the only vodafone thing u have left it the red around the menu items, which i like better than the SE theme (as i prev had a z1010) s700i rocks gio

Yes, this handset has been withdrawn from all networks due to varying software issues. Such faults seem to be common with SE handsets, though most of them relatively minor. Both myself and a colleague have this handset and we've each experienced the same fault, though each caused by a different trigger. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a major fault as it doesn't affect the way we generally use the phone and such errors with the phone are few and far between. Overall this is an extremly good handset, there's just a few things that need tweaking. If you already have the handset and are having minor software issues, keep an eye on the SE website as there are usually software upgrades available to download.

the max memory is 128mb the K750 is far superior to the S700i due to autofocus. even tho its CMOS, it delivers suprisingly good colour depth.

Hi there! I bought my SE S700i (japan made) last march 2005, its openline, some package has no USB cable included. Anyway,among my other mobilephones which I've tested after the Motorola C651, the S700i is a nice phone, though its bulky in the pocket. The Memory Stick Duo (MSD)is the alternative user memory for you to save space to your internal phone memory. The camera and digital cam,are nice. But the only problem in S700i is that the sound recorder is NOT THAT CLEAR. I've been tested these ff mobilephones: Samsung - when it comes to camera its has an excellent camera resolution; Panasonic - it has a clear speakerphone; Nokia - it has a nice in phone designs, but the same features and applications; Siemens - it has a large fonts, and easily to navigate, but softwares are not even tested; Sendo - has a limited applications; Sony Ercisson - It has a nice graphics and colors. Sound recorder is not that clear and finally....; Motorola - has an intelligent technology. Among the other mobilephones that I've tested.

The video is very good quality and mine can record unlimited up to the capacity of the memory card (Ive just bought 128mb one) you'll have no probs bluetoothing a 3mb video. If your on vodafone, they restrict mp3s being used as ringtones for copyright reasons, but you can resolve this by downloading new software from the sony ericsson website. Any other network I assume allows mp3s to be used as ringtones

yes and no. MY-X8 has an mini SD slot, with no limitations. while the S700i has a limilation of 128mb. (not compatible with PRO). The screen is similar, both are comparable. Both support mp3 and mp3 ringtones. For looks, i think S700i wins handdown. Its built solid, 7 months and mine is still sliding smoothly.

The volume of the S700 is reasonable. It's similar to the Samsung D500- its not as loud as the Motorola V3. Quality is also decent, almost as good as mp3 players. The earphone which comes with it is pretty bad, if often falls off.

My S700i is slow. Not too slow, but it sometimes looses track if you're too fast (in the menu and SMS) which is abit annoying. But you'll get used to this ...don't worry

Just Spoke to Vodafone who have informed me that yes the mp3's are blocked and cannot be used as ringtones (For copyright reasons apparantly) I was advised to go onto the Sony Ericsson website and download the software for the phone which will enable this to work. The only drawback is that the whole menu system will change and Vodafone live (Which I think is excellent compared to some other networks WAP Sites) will no longer be accessible unless it gets saved as a bookmark. Hope this helps And none of u ignorant b*stards have said whether you find it slow or not yet!!

I feel your dissapointed with a standby time of this phone. I noticed that all cellular phone brands: Nokia, Samsung, Sony, Motorola are commonly lie about the phone's standby time! I is always 2 times shorter ( in everage) than advertised. Talk time is pretty much accurate though. SO PEOPLE, BE ADVISED! Id it says 300 hr of talk time, that means in reality 150 hr! If it says 500hr , it means 250 hr! There were only one Nokia phone that was advertised standby time without lying. That was the king of all cell. phone Nokia 6310! Unfortunetly becaused of our low-graded microchiped society's low demand on that phone model, Nokia stopped producing it (what a shame!).

i had this phone for 24 hrs and during that time i rechardged the battery 3 times... makes one wonder how on earth it has a 300hr standby time.... the phone itself is not bad at all and is fully loaded with features but the only drawback is that one cannot customise the soft key buttons to suit their needs and therefore i have returned the damn thing... u buy a phone to cater for ur needs and not vice versa... if the soft keys could be changed then i wud have definately kept it but alas this wasnt the case and by the way vodafone have their live feature pre programmed and cannot be removed no matter how hard u try to remove it this is annoying especially when u want the phone to do what u want it to do... my advice is buy a sim free phone much better and a lot less hassle the camera isnt brilliant either it has a strobe effect so is slow zoom isnt brilliant but the sounds are great crystal clear...compared to nokia i would say nokias are a lot more user friendly than sony phones but i guess this is personal choice my overall advice stick to a nokia 6630 a lot better features wise and all round i wouldnt consider another sony ericsson unless the soft keys could be customised by the user people u have been warned

Finally recieved it!! Great phone sound quality is amazing even tho pictures dont look as good ON THE PHONE as my sharp GX20 when I printed em out at tesco they where really clear and I was much more impressed. One thing tho... I have some great mp3's on my phone but for some reason cannot use them as ringtones. Just over a week into using this phone and I have to say, over all, it's a pretty good phone. I don't like the way it opens, I find it clumsy. Also, the keys on the keypad are indented into the handset which makes textin a bit awkward, especially if you've got fat fingers, which I actually haven't. There's an anomaly that's cropped up a couple of times though. When I change the default ringtone, the next call I receive seems to switch the phone off. The screen goes apeshit, flickering with lines shooting across it and it vibrates a few times... then it goes dead. I'm putting this down to a hardware fault, but at the moment I don't think it's bad enough to warrant me returning it. Something to keep an eye on though...

S700i supports wav files only for those wav file with max of 16kHz sample rate. Source: Sony Ericsson Call Center Philippines Anything above that, s700i will either tell you that it cannot play the sound, or the sound will be choppy. Above all. S700i rocks. (actually, all sony ericsson phones do.)

Hello! The SE S700i is a nice and one of the best mobilephone in manila right now. Why, because the camera is very clear and when i developed through the use of my 32MB Memory stick Duo Card at the kodak center, it was so sharp and nice. The only confusing is the video, unlimited or limited-- but whatever you select, still the unlimited video will only stands for 1:22 which is the longest video. The volume/sound of the phone when the video is ON, its not that cleared. The price of this phone is expensive.

I work for one of the major mobile phone companies here in the UK and I picked this handset up for �39.99 on a staff account. I got it the very next day and haven't stopped playing with it since. The screen's fantastic and the picture quality is top notch. However, when you use the zoom feature your picture's become extremely pixelated, so it's actually better to just move closer to the object you're trying to capture. I'm loving the sound quality and the way it allows you to create new folders, delete existing ones and move files around pretty much anywhere, much like having a PC in your pocket. Although it is big and I'm not a fan of the swivel open action, everything else makes up for it. With the option to link your phone up with other mobiles and PCs (or Macs), syncronising Outlook and using Instant Messaging, it seems there's nothing this phone can't do. One of the things I was looking forward to doing was downloading the software from the SE website that allows you to use the S700i as a remote control for a TV. I can't seem to locate the link on the SE website anymore, so if anyone knows where it's gone to it'll be a great help.

People these days make me laugh, why has a phone become a big major thing if you want a really good camera go buy a digital one, the camera on phones is getting better but wil never match or beat a proper camera (cause its not supposed to) il admit its handy have a camera to catch those funny moments but i use my good camera for holiday pics. and now someone says about using the s700 as a web cam (s700i cannot and i dont think any phone can) but come on its a PHONE to ring people on. im a mobile freak i love phones but at the end of the day a web cam ??? go and buy a web cam if your that botherd a good one is only wat ? �40 why anyone would buy a phone just because of the camera or webcam is beyond me. People keep asking the same questions 1) no 256 mb card s700i will not take (if your that botherd wait 2 more months and get 750i 1gig mb card :) 2) if you want a god phone plus one of the best cameras out now (not including sharp 902) then get this if you want a wicked phone plus a good camera but a phone that feels like a phone and not a camera wait for the k750i 3) yes the s700 is big and heavy look at the info on the phone and work it out 4) NO full screen video , video is tiny and poor quality its a real big shame a lovely massive screen but no full screen video (k750i has though, but not as big screen as s700i),no firmware update to fix this 5) no you cant take pictures with no shutter sound as in some countries it is now illegal to have a phone that takes pictures with no shutter sound, somethign about personal rights or something 6) o2 have recalled all there s700i's due to faults ??? not sure about voda or anyone else but sounds bit dodgy 7) its quite cheap now so look around 1st ebay can be good 8) does not have edge 9) video record there is no unlimted ??? stupid they call it that but for some reason sony ericsson have left it out ?? 10) print your pictures either take your stick duo thing to a photo printing place (if you live in uk jessops is v.good) and there you can have them printed or get a photo printer and a memory card reader and print at home :) 11) yes you can record video with sound but its a max of about 30 mins (if you have the new software if not about 3 mins very poor on se part) 12) if your phone turns off then you may have old firmware just get it updated finally to all stil not sure weather to get this or not if you want a good camera and a lovely screen to veiw your pictures on the phone itself without haveing to transfer them onto the pc to see the real beauty of the picture, then you will have to get a bigger phone, where as if you want a good cam and a stylish small phone (like d500) you are not going to get a big screen like the s700 or p910 etc. its one or the other and if you just want a good phone that will last you a year dont get this as its not a phone to keep for 12 months the size alone will anoy you and within 2-3 months there are better phones coming out :) buy this phone now if you want to impress your mates and take nice pics (for a phone) don't buy it if you think you will be the talking point for ages cause sadly few months time not many people will be buying this as its not that much cheaper (for some) than the upcoming k750i and w800 which are going to become instant fave's like the T610 and k700i

I have just received my sony ericsson S700i today and I love it.. The only question I have 'Are you supposed to be able to move the cursor up and down on the joystick on the front of the phone. I can only use the bottons around the joystick to select things (up and down) and then i just push the button in to select it..' Thanks

this is the first sony ericsson phone i have and i love it. i'm surprised that the battery standby time have inproved so much better than the old T616, reception is better stronger than the older models too. places that does not support 900 band(such as united states)still picked up a pretty good signal. this is a very good break through of the sony ericsson, all they need to work on is probably a Quad-band or a 3G phone. :)

hi people. about the size screen: is p910 smaller than s700/710? i'm asking that 'coz display specifications show s700: 240x320 pxls; p910: 208x320 pxls. folowing the specif. obviously s700 is bigger, but if you see the pics, p910 is bigger. what about k700? specifications show 176x220 pxls, but i played it last night in store and i comprove that the display size is 128x160 pxls (as t610/630, z600)!!! i�m not talking about the quality display, im talking about the size display. i played k500 and the display is bigger than k700, but the k500 display size specifications show 128x160 pxls!(???). what's going on? wrong informations? i really really need to know about p910 & s700/710 size displays. in my region is missing p910, coz that i can't compare both and i can't trust in se's specifications. does anyone know the p910,s700,k700 & k500 size screen in inches? don't forget my question number 2 under... please help me, guys. muito obrigado. 10inchesguy

Hy...y have the S700i....the phone is great end the blitz ...is turned on when you start it...end when you whant to look at the picture's you have taken it's turning off automaticaly end if you forghet the cam open it automaticaly sutting down after 5 min...but you can change that...you can do it in 2 min for ex...!... . but THE PHONE IS GREAT>....good qualite good pictures nice games ...good sound on the MP3;)

Anyone have problems displaying certain WAP pages on their S700i? I just got my phone two days ago and have been browsing the web for several hours. I notice that about 30% of the pages I go to show up blank even though the softkeys change labels to "Select" and "More" likely indicating that the page has been returned. I switched my SIM Card over to my T68i and went to the some of the same WAP pages. These pages show up properly on the T68i. I'm starting to think the browser on the S700i has a bug in it. My S700i has the R3K software. Anyone else encounter similar issues?

The S700i is a camera-phone which is both visually stunning and functionally impressive. I have placed my order for this mobile phone, and I can't wait 'til I get it! I have also researched deeply on the possible problems it may have, whether branded or not. The results were varied on which network provider you choose. As for O2, there are many issues regarding the duplicate text messages. As for Vodafone, they seemed to have modified the software a little too much. However, my overall feelings for this phone are good, and I would recommend it to most people. No phone is perfect...

check the message centre number Dana with customer care if that doesnt work take the SIM out wipe it and put it back in again. If you ring up cust care again they can refresh your mailbox. hope this helps there shouldnt be a problem with the software

I have this phone on o2 contract and i think its amazing-although i agree about the video playback feature being too small its a great phone. I used to have a Nokia 6600 and its a vast improvement! To get mp3 ringtones a bluetooth dongle is needed to xfer mp3 files from PC to phone. Thats the way i do it anyway, MP3s are stored in the file manager and can then be used as ringtones (ive got Chemical Bros!). The camera quality is excellent with various formats, sizes and colours theres no end to what can be done. I think my fav is the negative view capture(makes u look like a zombie!).Overall id say that this is one of the top 3 handsets out in the uk at the moment. I work for a mobile company so any questions about this phone don't hesitate to ask!!!!!

Great mobile phone! I have this SE S700i almost 5 months and still amaze other people who never see this phone in reality! The one & only phone with CCD type 1,3 megapixel camera! Great display! Only one disadvantage I think, I can't modify the phonebook which is very small in capacity. My phonebook is almost full. I expect at least 2000 numbers, but overall, SE S700i is the best multimedia phone so far.

to Julie: I've been playing with two of these phones and both have the same issue. I've already posted this previously but only one other person has commented on having a similar problem. I noticed that the voice calls are really bad. It almost sounds as if the Microphone is too goo and is picking up a lot of the background noises. I love the form factor of the SE and would love to test it more but the voice quality is a major put off. I'm in the States so it may be a 1900Mhz issue. Cheers

The s700i does play MPEG4 however a lot of MPEG4 Files will not work. Most MPEG4 Files I find are for the P900 and P910 and wont work on the S700i. I had the same problem with the X3. Again it played MPEG4 files however the majority I found on Internet never worked.

Chandler, If you set a pic to any contact, that paerson's pic will appear whenever he/she calls od sms's. I have it in my S700i. Its a great feature.

Does anyone else have a voice quality problem on this phone? There must be more than 2 people with this issue, so speak up people. Every brand of the cell phones has its advantages to others due to the nature of the brand. EXAMPLE: SONY ERICSSON has the best digital camera because of the brand name- SONY (Sony specializing in regular digital cameras unlike Samsung or Nokia who never did digital cameras). SAMSUNG AND NOKIA HAVE better voice clarity and very easy to use menu comparing to all other brands. Samsung also has the best design of the phones so far ( OTHER brands come up with the same design only few months after SAMSUNG, because they take time to copy Samsung's design) PANASONIC AND SHARP HAVE the best color screen on their phones, since they specialize in High Quality TV screens. SO THERE IS NO ONE PERFECT.

hey guys! r u blind??? these things u ask have been mentioned so many times, i will repeat them once more! 1) with r3k firmware upgrade which is available in every s.e. service center, you can shoot video of very long time (i had 12:30 minutes then my memory was full) 2) every mp3 has the option to be used as ringtone, if not then maybe you got a locked phone from telephone provider (vodafone or o2 etc.) 3) quickest way to transfer is through a card reader cos u got usb 2.0 speed (takes 40 seconds for a 6 mb mp3). although a usb cable is not bad too (sloewer however). the slowest ways are bluetooth and ir. dont buy such adapters if you want fast transfers in large files. 4) no matter the version an ordinary s700 bought from sony ericsson or anyone else who hasnt lock it! takes pictures without sound if you have it to mute before taking the picture.

as i have now had 2 d500's 1st time i was really upset with it the screen and pictures wen took in darker rooms were shocking my gx30 wiped the floor with it camera wise, yes d500 is a cool looking phone but thats its 2nd time i had 1 i thought id try again for a bit longer play about with settings etc. but same thing, i have now played with an s700 for 10 mins max and loved every minute :) video size im on about is when i put a 3gp simpsons file onto it how big is it does it fill the screen ? and the 2 mins record i believe i read had been fixed with firmware update to 30 mins ? true or untrue ? someone who got it recent plz answer ?

Just went through some comments. Couple ofg people have talked about thier worry about the size of the video. If you talking of the pix size, when you transfer, it shouldnt be a prob, but if you're talking of the timing, then yeah, its pretty small, 2minutes i believe. Yes it does have a flash. If any of you ever carried analog cell phones back in the day, you'd know this phone is really small. Its not as big or heavy as people have posted here. Its perfectly fine for a guy. Maybe ladies would want something smaller, but its cool for a guy. certainly is nowhere near the nokia communicator i can assure you.

I have always been a sonyericsson fan. All my cell phones have been eicsson and now sonyericsson. Got an S700i recently and the phone is da bomb!! Its magic and you can do almost anything. Just one thing. I need to know how i can print the pictures i have taken. The phone is a complete digital camara, and it would be such a waste if the pictures cant be printed. Do i use the memory stick Duo? Help pleeeeeeeasssssssseeeee!!!

I might go to the o2 shop today and ask a few questions - 1) why don't they tell you (like most other online places) that the phone was out of stock before you actually bought it!? 2) how come the shops have the phone but not the online shop..are people who go to the shops worth more to o2 than us mere online buyers?! will the vids not just be small on the phone but larger when you transfer them to pc?

played about with one in shop and billy last post is somewhat of a retraction from his last post :-/ but never mind i like the cam as i have a gx30 its better than taht and kills the d500, im pretty sure of the 14 days wait as it says on o2 online shop that please note the delivery on the s700i may take my to 14 days, so it could be less, i was abit unsure about ordering from there but 500 txts only bad thing is bill trough e-mail only :(, wish someone would reply to my post about video sizes :-/

Hello its Billy again, nice to see people slagging me off. Like ive said before, i have had nothing but problems with my phone and nothing has been exagerated because you guys have fingers to type with and can varify whether im talking balls or not by doing a quick google search on s700i faults. And no, my eyes arent painted on and i do know what a shit picture looks like. If any one wants to see some shit photos i have taken with the camera i will email them to you. And another thing, i got so pissed off with all the faults that i went out and bought a DSS-25 docking station for it so that i could flash the firmware myself and so far so good, no problems. Its not like i didnt trail around Leeds for 2 hours going into various phone shops to see if they could upgrade the firmware for me because i did and i had no luck with it being such a new phone. I do have the R3K004 version now and before i was told it had one of the earlier versions. And yes although i do slate this phone off i wouldnt however go out and buy any other phone. The closest thing to this phone would be the D500 but its got a pathetic screen and is limited to 80mb of internal memory with no possibility of upgrading it. The s700i does indeed have many great features and that is why i have kept it regardless of all the many many faults i have had with it. I can moan about the memory in it but its big enough for so many mp3s and pictures etc. I love the facility of being able to use themes. And i love the little things like getting the persons photo on the screen when they have sent you a text message. So yes its the features that make it stand out above the rest that keep me from throwing it against a wall and getting another phone. And you just cant fault the quality of the screen because it is excellent. I just cant get over the so called 1.3mp camera because it just isnt that. Anyways, im sure ill be typing something else soon. Cya, Billy.

i too am buying with o2 online coz 500 txts :D you can get it from shops but i will only get 100 txts but its only a 14 day wait on o2 online wait trust me i just took my d500 back for this i played with one in the shop thing a h8ted about d500 was the screen when you look at your phots very dark ok on pc but if i wanted to do that all the time i would buy a dig cam :D stick with this you won't be sorry, and ignore billy he either had/has a very early crappy model or his is faulty or he is just chatting crap

just took my d500 back for this but they had none :( so ill wait but i played with one in the shop and GREAT :D only prob was when i watched a recorded video it was tiny and i mean tiny , is this normal or was the phone i played with (shop demo model) set up wrong ??? if its this small when i watch video and watch 3gp files that i put on there i will not get it but i love the camera billy your blind best camera ever was inside carphonewarehouse and its was stunning beats my gx30 :) and no lag when takin picture :), please could someone tell me honestly about thew video size plz cheers

Just went to a SE certified service centre. The phonebook thingy is a sw fault. It appears that the phonebook may be corrupted. They will need to re-customise (re-flash firmware) the phone. It makes certain caller's name not appear even though its registered in the phonebook. My k700 is just fine now. They did a marvelous job. Some S700's have this problem & can be rectified easily by visiting the service centre. That's what makes SE the preferred choice just like Toyota cars, after sales service is the best.

billy is the most interesting guy to listen to when looking for a decent review of a product. he's is either that, or some kind of Nokia's (or Sharp's or whatever) repsesentative trying to talk people away from S700i (unluckily he won't cos there are enough users of S700 that can tell people about the phone. I wont reply to EVERY crap sentence he wrote because some of them everybody can understand that are damn! but to the things that someone might have thought were true. 1. About the weird recall thing that doesn't show the last number you dialed, instead he says it shows another number from the names book. R U a complete retard or what??? the phone doesn't always show first in list the last call you recieved because it shows hierarchically the outgoing calls and THEN the incoming or missed even if they happened at oposite time, just for your convenience which I have found useful many times. it NEVERS just comes up with a number you didnt call, recieved or missed in the (say 5) last calls. How on earth did you find this??? 2. The phone has absolutely no lag problems, there is a tiny time (0.25 seconds) since you press the buttons which is a very reasonable time for such phones, and its of course a matter of getting used to it, (stop going nuts and pressing 11212123 buttons per seconds u fool!!!) 3. I have used many mp3s directly to the phone as ringtones without any stupid sony ericsson converting software, either through infrared or bluetooth. (maybe its your fault you bought a provider locked one, but surely not Sony Ericsson's!). Also with r3k software version (maybe and the old ones) I have taken video of 12:33 minutes (cos I didnt have more free space) so no problem with that. 4. JUST TO SET THIS STRAIGHT---->>>> WITH BOTH SOFTWARE VERSIONS I HAD (R3F AND THEN R3K UPGRADED FROM SE SERVICE) I COULD ALWAYS TAKE PICTURES WITHOUT A SOUND IF THE PHONE HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY SWITCHED TO SILENT (PRESS C). this happens with all genuine s700i's but maybe not with the vodafone locked ones!! I dont care about locked ones and neither should sony ericsson worry about it because its the stupid provider that f*cks the phone like this, NOT S.E.!!! 5. about the camera quality you must probably be blind or smthing like that so better visit your doctor. EVERY person in this planet that has checked the phone has agreed that has the best PHONE-CAMERA in the market so far. it's absolutely true that it doesn't compare with even a 2.1 MP normal digital camera but who said so???? Who expects it to be like even a 2mp camera? no my friends, phones have not reached this level yet 9maybe in a year or so) and anybody saying that his s700 is like a true camera is a liar. HOWEVER! it is true that you get medium quality pictures which afterwards you can even print and enjoy them at least but not top quality ones, that is obvious. Now I dont remember what other kind of nonsense he talked about, but I am free to reply to any questions just because Ihave the phone for two months and apart from 2 freezes (every single f*cking phone made the last 2-3 years freezes) I have experienced NONE of the so-called faults of billy's phone. (hello billy! how u doing?). The only reason SOME of these may be true ( i mean the stupid "faults") is because either: a) you got a faulty phone which needs replacement (then you cant blame the phone but your luck) OR b) you have a vodafone (or other provider) locked phone which maybe be completely f*cked up from the provider, and that is not sony's problem either. PS. the phone has a lot of hidden features that make it incredibly handy for everyday use and are not mentioned anywhere but u find them as you use it. smart lighting, easy arrangement of messages and calls and many many others. for example maybe you are in a menu that has many selections according to the button u press. if you;re in dark conditions and the light turns off u will probably want to turn it on immediately by pressing a button, BUT this button may do something u dont want it to do just because at this time its under a specific menu. So what s700 does is NO matter whic h buttons u press (maybe you re in a call and press the one which would disconnect you!) the first time you press a button when the light is off, it just turns the light on so you can see where yo are. THEN! the actions of the buttons come active again, THIS believe me has saved me many times. PS 2. there is a clever and incredibly fast way to transfer images, mp3s & videos to the phone rather than wait 10 minutes for a 6 mb song through bluetooth or IR, if you have a multimedia card reader (many of them are part of modern printers, so check yours immediately!!) if it has a MM card reader, then you take the memory stick out of the phone (even while turned on theres no problem despite what the manual says) and put in the MS DUO adpater included in the package, then you transfer to the removable disk (suck a USB flash disk) everything you want from mp3s to pictures and videos with a USB 2.0 speed (in case of a usb 2.0 printer). it took me 45 seconds to transfer 2 tracks of 8 mb total with this way!!! and you can listen them or have the mas ringtoens immediately... amazing or what? cheers...

I have S700i for 3 months now & it still rocks. I love this phone very much. The design is so futuristic as cybershot design. Ever wondering how, what, & when is the next generation of this S series? (S750i?) I can't wait. For now my target is K750i for my 2nd phone (change my old K700i). Still... can't wait for the next S series eventhough I have K750i. The camera probably 3mp but I still hope to be 5mp like Samsung. Big resolution. Swing...swing it... Animation & other functions probably the same as K750i (as S700i with K700i).

However if the number only shows up, make sure you have "1 + the area code" in front of the numbers. Also, the call log will also display a random person's name, causing confusion. The camera quality is only good in the correct lighting, but too much light causes the phone to lag. however those are the only 2 problems I have experienced. In the 3 months I have had it, nothing else has gone wrong.

Hello its billy, not one thing I typed earlier is a word of a lie because I have better things to do that rant about my crap phone, I just needed to get it off my chest, because far too many people hype this crap phone up. Especially the so called 1.3mp camera, I dont even want to think about that. And yes I respect your opinion of calling my tthread crap but look into it before you come out with something like that. Do a google search for "s700i faults" etc and its not just myself that has very bad experiences with this phone. And its not true about my experience of phones being limited because I have had many nokia phones etc aswell as a GD87, 6600, GX10i, GX20, GX30 and now a S700i. I am a very much into photography and have a cannon powershot A95 and used a powershot G5 with great success in photography so i know how to take a decent photo and i know what 1 mega pixel is supposed to look like. Im sorry but this camera isnt a patch on the camera of the GX20. That takes amazing photos and that isnt even a megapixel camera. I just hope people dont go rushing into buying this phone because even now its not cheap. But like I said, its not just myself thats got a duff s700i its many people, just check google for yourselves, just because you have an s700i that seems to work fine theres no need to be ignorant to another person that has had bad experiences with it. Ive said my piece, just remember that yeah i may have duff phone but so do a great deal of other people. Oh yeah the phone was also on watchdog as a result of all the complaints, although i am not on 02 but vodafone, 02 have stopped selling the phone all together because of the shear amount of complaints they got. My mate in 02 says to this day they still havent fixed the phones problems. Thanks for reading Billy.

Well where can I began. I got this phone back on the 4th of January and I have had nothing but problems and dissapointment with it. 1. For a start the camera is garbage, it has never seen a 1.3 mega pixel camera, the photos really are shocking and this was the main selling point for myself. 2. It can only handle 128mb duo memory cards, SE has obviously done this on purpose because the cards cost at least 50 quid a piece. 3. It takes me 3 whole minutes to load the phones crap media player. The player only supports avi and mp3, very small gif files at a push if you want to see your phone freeze. 4. Oh yeah, the phone will randomly vibrate while on a call then the screen will flash on and off and restart. 5. Phone will often freeze when you are transferring files via bluetooth, this happens when using both a windows xp machine or another bluetooth equipped phone. When the phone freezes you have to rip the battery out of the back. 6. The back of the phone is an absolute ass ache to take off, it took 3 guys in a phone shop to finally remove it while they were trying to sell me it. 7. You cant use your own mp3s as ringtones unless you convert them with sonys Digital Rights Management Software. And when you do this you arent able to send those mp3s onto other people. This is a problem with vodafone branded phones i believe. Its absolutely rediculous. 8. If your s700i isnt doing this yet, trust me it will do. 9. After you have finished calling a few people if you check the call log it will often display people on there that you havent even called. Try it out, call someone and then go into the call log and dial the last person in there, its often going to be a random person in your phone book that picks up the phone. 10. The inability of silencing the shutter sound when taking photographs. This isnt a problem because you will hate using the camera when you see the garbage quality on them. 11. When you turn on your phone from standby and it asks "How are you" and you select "ok", there is so much lag after you press the button that you will often end up calling the last person you dialled. 12. Again its the big problem with the lag of actaully pressing "ok" etc and 5 seconds later getting a response from the phone, its truly appaling. 13. Lets say you manage to transfer a picture or any file to the phone via bluetooth without it crashing or freezing, it displays the message "file recieved" or something like that and you can select "ok", by the time the phone picks up on you pressing the button it thinks you have selected the option on the next screen that asks "do you want to use the file now?" So before you know it the file is loading up despite you not wanting to load it up. 14, When you want to take a photo with the crap camera, you first have to close the whole thing up. Then it tells you to open the shutter. Lets say you want to take a photo of someone stood up, ok with an extremely steady right hand you are now expected to press the the shutter button on the far right hand side of the phonr with your left hands index finger. Yeah it truly is a shambles to take a vertical photo. 15. If you do manage to do the above and actually take a photo of someone stood up rather than laid down you will notice when you come to viewing the photo that the phone thought it would be a really good idea to rotate the photo around so you only see half an image. Thats great isnt it. What you now have to do is go into each and every one and choose "edit" then "rotate" in order to sort it out so it looks like what you photographed. 16. Dont even think of trying to send photos of large resolution to this phone e.g. 1152x 864 because the phone wont be able to display them, if you try to display it the phone will either freeze or it will show you a small picture of something snapped in half as if the photo was corrupt in the first place. What you can do if you have a good art package is load the image up and then resize it so that is 25 percent of its original size, both horizontally and vertically using "bicubic" pattern or something like that. 17. And yeah the battery life is crap, im lucky to get 3 days out of it without using it. God knows where they have got 300 hours of standby battey life from. Well thats a huge load of my mind, just take my advice and dont regret getting this phone, go for something else instead like the D500. I do hope my comments and truth about this phone have been useful to you. Cya later, Billy.

This is the best phone I've had! Looks good. Sounds good. No detachable speaker (which gets lost) like the Samsung D500. Screen is a good size. Some havbe complained that when the phone is opened out, it's huge. Once you have your contacts saved into the phone you only really need to open it to sent a text message and even then it's not that big. I recommend this phone to anyone

I love this phone. Sony Ericsson is just one of the easiest to use, yet best featured phone. It communicates via bluetooth with my iBook very fast and reliably. The interface is pleasant, with a lot of new stuff (eg programmable shortcuts) that the old phones didn't have. Everyone may i have ur attention!!! Get this phone if u want a new cell phone. THis phone is one of the best phones i ever knew. Forget about all the nokia phones in the world. Sony ericsson's bluetooth is far more sensitive than nokia. And look at the design, camera, features... Everything is beyond expectations. I'm in the USA and I want to buy this phone or the s710a for use on T-Mobile's network. I know the major difference between the s700i and s710a is EDGE... is the EDGE feature really worth getting. I don't think t-mobile even supports EDGE yet. Also, buy buying the s700i you'll have a true international phone - right?

Some of the new Nokia phones feature a symbian OS. I understand there is a programme you can download which enables the user to block any unwanted numbers (not sure if that's just with text or calls too, but still is useful). The Sony Ericsson S700 doesn't have symbian, so I was wondering if anyone knows if it has a function which allows blocking of certain numbers (or at least is able to download a working program which will do this)?

I have this phone on o2 contract and i think its amazing-although i agree about the video playback feature being too small its a great phone. I used to have a Nokia 6600 and its a vast improvement! To get mp3 ringtones a bluetooth dongle is needed to xfer mp3 files from PC to phone. These are stored in the file manager and can then be used as ringtones (ive got Chemical Bros!). The camera quality is excellent with various formats, sizes and colours theres no end to what can be done. I think my fav is the negative view capture(makes u look like a zombie!).Overall id say that this is one of the top 3 handsets out in the uk at the moment. Any questions about this phone don't hesitate to ask!!!!!

I have had this phone for about a months and a half. I am now on my second phone. The first one crashed and you couldn't take any videos or pictures. The second on has poor battery life (lasts about a day) audio reception is crap (I pick up better reception on my fillings) Will not work with my HBH-35 blurtooth headset (worked fiine with the 1st S700i) Slow to respond to commands. bugger all security. the only good thig is the external memory and the 1.3 Mega pixel camera. Wished I kept my P800 now and that I never spent �360.00 on this pile of cr@p. This phone is one of the cr@pest Sony Ericsson have made. Sansung D500 here I come. Does not take Pro cards. You cannot play video in a larger size. You just select the MP2 as the ringtone. It is disabled by some service providers (vodaphone). You cannot have the clock display. I think only some Firmware versions had this.

to chris: What you do is,go in to your file manager and select the sounds file,and then go to the mp3 that you want to use, then press the 'more' button (bottom right)then scroll to 'use' then select 'set as ringtone' and your done! Hope this is useful!

Very slick handset, bit on the big side but the features on the handset justifys the size. The only thing that lets this handset down is the poor security features on the handset. There is one prblem with this phone - the caller group ring tone doesn't ring on the bluetooth headset. The headset will only have a normal 'ring ring' tone. And when you use the wired ear piece - it will only ring the caller group tones when it's set on silent mode. Can be quite troublesome sometimes.

It does not use a OS. It just has java games, wap browsing and basic HTML (normal/smaller web) browsing. The old firmware can record 2 minuets video (3g type) or play up to half an hours mpeg4 video off of the 32mb memory card. The 128mb card can take about 2hours I think. With a newer firmware, you can record unlimited clips (untill the memory runs out).

The card supports a 128mb MS card as its maximum size. But if it has a switch (2x128 cards) then it "might" work. Don't really know. Also, yes the phone is a little bit deep. But I did not want a tiny phone ;) . If its too big, there are many other smaller phones out there.

Yes, it has a speaker phone. But it is on the back, so may caurse problems depending apon use. I am not shure how many user groups it can have. But you cannot search phone numbers via groups, I think it only allows searching for text and sms services.

The firmware you have, may depend on what country, as there are differnt laws as to what you are allowed to do. I think it is illegal to have a silent phone in some countrys. So it they may have changed it. Yes, you can download the firmware of the internet. But you need a special cable, and pay for the service (I do not think there are any free services).

It can connect to a usb via a seperate Sony Ericson docking station, or a data cable. Or you can use the other connectivity (Bluetooth, Infra red or the memory card and a pc card reader). The silent photo taking depends apon which version of phone it is (you can sometimes update it), which country and which service provider.

You need to update your firmware. By sending the phone away to be upgraded (may loose saved settings) or by buying a cable and software to upgrade it yourself. Then you can have unlimited recordings. However, you cannot watch video at full screen (320x240), and they are probably never going to upgrade the phone to do that :( .

Bilal Akbar: Ive never used the k700i before so Im not sure if you can! But if you can zoom in with that phone in shoot mode try the same buttons to zoom in, in view mode. This is how I stumbled across it in the s700i, didnt read the manual!

Yes you can zoom in on a pic that you've just taken, by selecting view in camera mode, then scroll to the pic that you want to zoom in on and then press the key that is pointing up or towards the small hole for the microphone, then a red box appears, move this to the area of the pic that you want to zoom in on and then press the middle button and hey presto!!! you will have a small box at the top left hand side of the pic to guide you around the pic that you are on. Hope this is useful!

firmware R3k or u can go to this site The screen colouring is a hell of a lot better, I noticed it straight away so not sure what's happened there. Cam noise is gone on silent (I think that's in F though?) Battery life much improved and I'm messing with the unit even more now. Navigating the pictures folder is much faster although adding an EMS picture takes a while to load up the list as before. Less rattle from the shutter (don't laugh!) I think they've toned down the 'bass' of the tones perhaps as before I couldn't use them at all. Memory status now reading correctly for MS in the folders view. Still no full screen video - instead of 'unlimited' in video camera settings it now says 'normal' which indicates unlimited is never coming. Night mode much improved in camera Camera start up - wippet fast now Can't remove Darts game which is annoying Setting default number in address book doesn't show until you exit and go back in - that's annoying Not one reboot since I flashed it so that's been fixed by the look of it

Well i jad a S700i and i traded it in for a 7610. Se S700i SUCKS!!! The battery life sucks.U watch a video,listen to few songs,take a fw pics and ur battery's empty.Plus its not symbian which is a BIG con. The video recording of 7610 much better than s700i. Apart from its camera s700i sucks.NOKIA RULES.

s700i is a great model now for the friend nit9999 who asked the s700i can take up to 128mb memory stick duo becayse it is not taking memory stick duo pro.p910i taking memory stick duo pro so can take up to 1gb memory.dont afraid my friend thanks the guard sony ericsson gave to s700i 32mb internal memory so with the 128mb from memory stick and the 32 mb internal you have 160mb memory i think that is good!!!

Hi all! I have had this set for a few days now n i simply love it. U can actually play videos in a slightly bigger size. You have to download PVP Author and convert movies to mp4 format. 3gp plays in small screen i.e in 176*144 mode, while mp4 plays in 320*240 mode. Does any one know any sites from where i can download java games for my set as mine came with only the tennis game. THNX

To lll: bluetooth is not a main concern for me. So, M900 is still the best. I trade my s700 with m900 coz I hate the swivel screen. It sucks. Stuck half way.

Hiya, I have this phone on O2 and I've had problems receiving texts just like I did with my previous k700i. They're sending me a new one so hopefully that'll get resolved soon cos I love this phone. A couple of things annoy me though. The fact that the camera makes a noise ever when it's turned onto silent (it's annoying in restaurants and at work etc). I also think it actually has less features than the k700i because it doesnt have panoramic photo settings (you can on the k700i), you can't edit the photos etc. Plus, when listening to MP3s, if you get a call and take your headphones out to answer it, then after the call, the MP3 starts blaring out and takes ages to go and turn it off - very embarrassing when you're on the train!! I do love the phone though - especially the HUGE screen and the fact that it has an MP3 player. In answer to your question - I don't think there's an HTML browser - you don't get photos etc. And in answer to another question, yes you can use normal MP3s as ringtones - just click the right button at the top when hoverring over the one you wanna use, select USE and then SET AS RINGTONE and you're done. Anyone know of any good phone covers? Mines starting to scratch already you see - need something to protect it!

Hi ! all just to share with your that I can use to take camera with no sound and my firmwear is R3D , may be your can try this mentod if your never try before , Before open the back camera len to take picture , press and hold the C button to turn ON the silent mode then open the back camera len to take picture , I use this mentod to take picture with no sound and it work , please try it and feed back can it work , if no I have to say sorry .

to tech_freak 1. yes video is only up to 2min no matter how big is your memory. Reason: firmware flaw. 2. yes you can send picture, mp3's to the phone from PC and vice versa, using the appropriate cable or a USB bluetooth adaptor. 3. Yes it's like an ordinary Mp3 player, you can listen thru stereo headset or you can use the phone's speaker and you can use an MP3 files as a ringtone but not the vodafone locked S700's. 4. S700 is easy to open and it feels good quality, if you store all your contact into your phone book, you dont have to open it coz all menus are accessible even when the phone is cloz. If you are dialling a new number or texting somebody then you have to open the keypad. S700 is designed to take pics when its close. 6. Shutter sound! It depends on what version of firmware the phone has, mine can not mute the shutter sound, I tried different ways to mute it but still no luck, some said they can mute the shutter sound, i guess they have a different firmware version. It is a law to some country for the phone to have a shutter sound.

Memory stick duo's highest memory is only up to 128 MB, you can verify this in the store or online, thats why SE S700's external Memory is only up to 128 MB, becoz it can only read the DUO not the PRO DUO. Return your 256 MB mem STck pro duo while theres still time to refund your money

If a S700i unlocked or unbranded supports unlimited video does it mean I can watch videos such as "Spiderman 2" on it? The movie may be more than 128 mb, but if another brand of memory stick with more than 128 mb works? I would definitely get this if movie viewing is possible. Forget any other phones.

On the V800 you have to use a DRM packager on MP3's to use as ringtone , probably the same on this. The DRM packager is readily available on the sony ericsson developer website if you register and works a treat .

Hi there, just got this phone a few days back.A wonderful phone.HOwever not flawless. Anyway, is there anyway i can increase the number of sms i can keep in the phone?I think its capped at 100 now and since the internal memory is ard 32 mb..can i utilise that? One more thing. If u put all the mp3 files into the phone, all the .mp3 files would be played by the mp3 player.Is there anyway i can make the player plays only the songs and not the .mp3 ring tones that i have?It would be abit stupid to listen to a song,the very next moment u have to listen to ur ring tone right? to zero cool its not possible to shut down the noise when you take pictures with cam. The reason is to prevent anybody taking a picture of somebody else with out a permission. I also heard that this function would be obligatory in the future in all phones with a cam.

I think this is a very good phone with a good camera and other specifications. The only think that backs me off of this phone is its size and weight. It's a pricy phone of course but reasonable when compared with other smart handhelds in the market.
