You can certainly purchase a Sony Z710i unlocked and use it for internet and email, even push email. I purchased my Z710i on ebay and use it on the pure talk system. They told me the programming info to connect my phone to the web but could not tell me how to input the info on my Sony phone so I searched the web till I found it. Simply follow the instructions on the site linked below to program your phone. You just need to substitute the settings from your carrier with those of giffgaff and it will work. this phone is the best I've ever owned and with pure talk there is no contract and you can get a sim card for free.

Ok for phone calls. Used it in Vietnam and reached Saigon from near Laos loud and clear. Same with incoming calls. Otherwise, do not buy an unlocked Z710i if you expect to use email and internet functions. Sony claims that it can program phone for our carrier. No Way! But if you want a small phone with great reception....

After all those times when it dropped from my bed to the floor and after i misplaced it and somehow found it soaked with coffee, all i had to do was replaced the battery (luckily, my sis had exact the same phone) and the keys still functions the same. It still allows me to make my phonecalls, record sound files, send text, picture and video messages. I personally thinks that SONY ericsson is a very strong, good quality long lasting phone compare to all other phones I know. Its very reliable, simple and easy to use. Its not the best looking phone in the world BUT! its great with all the features (i.e. bluetooth, picture, text, sounds, ringtones). Definitely, would rate it a 8.5

A wave took it into the ocean, nothing, left it in my pants in the washing machine, heck its even better. Had it for 2 and a half years and still going strong. Hi, I have two questions for all Z710 users out there :) I recently got my firmware flashed to the latest version, and two things seem to have changed on the blue external screen, I was wondering if anyone knows how to get these back or if it's the same on your own Z710i. The radio screen has changed- the RDS text has become small and the same size as the normal font. On the old firmware version the RDS text on the radio was much bigger and fit neatly on the blue display, I much preferred that. Also, there was this cool animation that played on the blue display whenever I was in a call, which was these white squares that faded diagonally. I really liked this but on the new firmware version the screen just stays all blue. Is there any way to get this back as I loved this quirky feature. I'd just like to say the Z710i is the best phone I've ever used and I wouldn't swap mine for anything else. Thank you everyone :)

yes you CAN use mp3 ringtones. Just flash the firmware to the original Sony Ericsson one. It's just the OPERATOR FIRMWARE that stops you from doing that.

i've been u sing this phone about a year and wat im not satisfied is the camera..u cant capture it full screen and much worse is that u cant zoom it in 2mp..it only works in vga...and u cant zoom the picture afterwards.. but it doesnt bother much if u dun take serioulsy bout the cameras the music key function is great and friendly user and i also dropped it several times but still works really fine my friends says its really cool

I have been using My Z710i since December 2006. I bought it for Rs. 12500.00 and on the 14th month it became troublesome. It wont capture GSM signals of 900 Hz. Sony Ericsson says it can be rectified only by changing the circuit board which costs about 75% of the total cost. So it is now being used as a camara, music player, FM Radio, Alarm clock, etc... This phone was designed back in the days when SE still had a lot of imagination and understanding of what people like. It's an excellent phone, I've had the gold sand one for over a year with no problems at all. Good camera, lightning fast responses and fast startup (especially compared to most new SE phones these days), excellent connectivity, great quality sound/FM radio, excellent call quality...only 3G is missing really but EDGE is fine in most cases! I've even clumsily dropped mine a couple times, hasn't affected it at all and still looks great. I have a 2GB memory stick with no problems at all.

Loved this phone for the first 6 months and now I feel like I'm having to get it replaced every week! First one ended up getting major software problems, the second one shut off randomly all the time and while it could make calls people couldn't hear me and same thing again with the third. Signing an extra long contract for the price break was a terrible idea.

hi dirtiwhiteboi check GSM ARENA's review of the W710 the camera is exactly the same as the Z710i, see if the sample pictures look like yours. If yours are much worse quality chances are you have a software bug or faulty camera... try flashing the handset again

oh yeah, before i forget to mention, i bought this item used and it is unbranded and unlocked - i have no idea if there was maybe something done (or UNdone) in the unlocking process that may be a contributing factor to the crappy camera performance... the images are just grainy as all get-out and some streaks through the middle at times, depending upon backlighting, etc. thanks again :)

hey all - i just bought this phone after having done all my research (or so i thought)... the rave reviews that people have given this phone are what landed me on the decision to purchase it, but i am sorry to say that i personally think the camera (or at least the camera in MY unit) 'sucks out loud'. in comparison i get similar quality, if not better, photo images from my Nextel/Moto i850 which is a VGA cam which is a sub-1MP. i recently had an i880 that was superior in image quality with a 2MP as well. perhaps there are some sort of settings that could be adjusted or maybe flashed? ...i dunno'. i have been at my wit's end tryng to figure out what phone i wanna' get for my upcoming 'end-of-contract' event thru Nextel... thinking i would love to go with GSM - preferrably EDGE also, but this recent trial & error run i've been having is getting confusing. my youngest niece just got a Razr the other day & i was amazed at the hi-quality images it takes... this is sort of leaning me (now) toward a Razr purchase myself. i have been researching the V3x, and whereas the reviews (for the most part) on this site are tales of bugs & self-thinking hardware, i am still impressed with the complete package that the phone has to offer (not to mention 2-way video calling). a GOOD, hi-MP camera & clamshell design are very important to me and i'd like to find one that delivers all the goods, without trying every one on the market, only to have the final one be outdated by time i decide - lol. at any rate, i am extremely pleased with the menus and the flash screensavers & desktop themes in general, as well as the MP3 performance of this item. the free-floating MP3 controls on the face of the phone are ba little 'clicky' if you get too into your music, but all in all, it's a great little clamshell. i was recently checking out an article wherein it was mentioned that a possibility to change firmware from Z710i to W710i was attainable thru XS, but i am unable to get this phone to be recognized/connected with XS for whatever reason. if anybody might be able to shed some light on the sub-standard imaging of this item, i certainly would appreciate the feedback & input. i can be contacted here: dirtiwhiteboi @ gmail . com. thanks all & keep up the good work :)

I think it's still one of the best cameras you can get on a flip phone currently. Heck, the Z710 is one of the best flip phones! Anyone notice the cool fading squares animation that displays on the blue external screen when you're in a call? Nice touch. I wish there was a way you could get that to play at other times too, like a screensaver.

This is definitely a good quality phone and the camera is really, really good for a cell phone. People are always commenting on how good the pictures it takes are. I agree that it is not the best looking phone, though.. lol but it's nice if you're just looking for something simple that works good and takes nice pictures.

this is one of the greatest phone i ever have. over all i give it 9/10. there are however some cons. -not so good looking (it depend on how u judge) -headset not comfortable -need the headset for FM -camera need to work in the light enough place -cannot set mp3 as ringtone and alarm tone no more. all others are pros. like, -good music player (i put my ipod away now) -speaker is good -easy to use -work with computer well -keyboard is comfortable -can have fun with the phone .......so much good things

I bought this phone after I decided that my next phone has to be a clamshell with fairly good music functionality with radio and camera. That was my main requirement and since SE is so famous of it's music capability so i decided to switch to SE after few years of being a nokia fan. And of course i did all of the possible research and calculating on all of the SE clamshell =) the result? out of the 4 SE clamshell (z750, w710, z710, w300) that has camera, music function with radio, i think this is the best (at least for my needs). Sure it doesn't has 3g like z750 and it doesn't has walkman player like its brother or w300i but it has nice and durable metallic design unlike its brother and the external screen is bigger than z750 and both display is bigger than w300. When comparing this phone with w300 i thought i can't tolerate with the poor camera and small display of w300. And when i actually go out to survey these 4, i notice the shiny finish of z750 prone to have fingerprints all over it the very first time i touch it which surprisingly annoying (to me). Anyway, I eventually end up with this phone, bought it like a week and i think it's pretty good, both function wise and looks but wonder why it isn't very popular, it's so strange that i have NEVER caught anyone using this phone on the street, in large supermarket or at my college. I guess maybe because the phone is very rare on the market, in fact they have to order it when i ask for the phone. I hope this is a plus though. Even though it's not from walkman range i think the sound quality is equivalent or slightly better than my Creative Zen V Plus but 1 thing for sure is the radio is definitely better because it has rds and better reception. The camera is okay, it's good to have a 2MP camera around to take picture outdoors but not recommended in low light. Overall it's really worth to be considered for those who love clamshell phone and want something from SE. Btw, this is my first clamshell phone and my first SE phone, for those who have it, I'm just wondering if there's any way that i can lock this phone to prevent someone else from using my phone or read my messages. Till then, maybe I will continue to review this phone some other time.

Excellent phone!!! I like the player. The FM radio with the RDS has a very good reception. I bought 1GB M2 and I don't need iPod now. :) The stereo headphones give high quality sound. The 2MP camera is amazing! I have added some themes and it looks much better now. The only problem I have is that mine is locked to Fido and I can use mp3 as a ring tone. It REALLY sucks. But overall I would give 9.9/10

to Jas... 1) The maximum is 1000 2) Sadly SE PC Suite can't archive SMS, you will need to use 3rd party software to save SMS messages 3) There is a wired handsfree included, it's not as good as the W710i one but I think it's fine 4) You can't zoom into pictures (like on most other SE handsets) This phone is great, I've had it a year and still love it :D

I think the keys are very comfortable and the phone is solid and nice to hold. This is the best phone I've ever used To meenu: For ringtones just download them on your computer (a good site is mobile9.com )then use Bluetooth, USB, or Infrared to put them on your phone. Sadly I don't know of a way of answering calls with the flip closed, I agree that I wish there was a way you could do it as it would make it easier.

had that same problem with the flip. today i stuffed a small bit of paper between the battery and the upper edge of the compartment, so that the battery got forced towards the contacts a bit more. so far i cant get it to fail when slamming the flip closed ;)

bogdan you can use mp3 ringtones on z710i!! it is because of the operator firmware that won't let you use them!! I have a z710i with original firmware and I can use mp3 ringtones!

this phone does not support MP3 ringtones..only wav,acc and mid...too bad..i got a convertor to use a real tone...wich,i think,sucks!only in the W series we can use mp3 as ringtone... the phone is very sensible!!!i dropped it one time from a chair,and the speaker isn`t working anymore...but quess what,it wasn`t the first time i changed the phone because of its speaker [the same model]

i used to be a hardcore nokia fan until i bought this phone. i've had this phone for almost a year now and im completely satisfied with it.the camera is great and has a host of options. the other regular features are very user friendly. its real value for money, as compared to nokia. the only complaint i have against sony ericsson is the quality of the panel. the paint peels off very easily and tends to look a little stupid. otherwise a really good phone. go ahead and buy it!

I was excited when I bought this phone 5 months ago, now I'm completely disappointed. There are bugs in the software: When I try to recall certain phone numbers from the phone directory, the phone REBOOTS!!! (Screen goes blank for 4 seconds, then I get the initial screen). This happens EVERY time I try to recall these numbers from the list. I cannot even erase them! Now these phone numbers are really lost for me, and so are also some other numbers that lie between them (going to these numbers by browsing the directory is impossible, I have to pass through the "bad" numbers that cause the phone to reboot.) Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions?

to FidoMarkham and zeina I have the z710i firmware and can use mp3 ringtones fine. you do not need w710i firmware to use mp3 ringtones. so flash the phone with the latest z710i firmware (some stores will do this for you but will charge or you could do it using the USB-cable) and all z710i functions like mp3 ringtones will be availible

zeina, about the ringtones, mp3's won't work, just convert the files to wma and you'll be fine, mp3's are blocked by the provider. Download a music converter if you need.

Ships - if you text a lot I wouldnt reccomend the S500. The keys are uncomfortable and can break- but the Z710s keys are very comfortable and easy to press. Also there is no FM radio or infrared port in the S500

I have this phone for few months now. SE is my passion :) Overall it is great - 9 from 10. Just few drawbacks of it: -poor capabilities of MP3 and video players -poor capability of image viewer, but photoDJ is a cool thing -low sound quality when talking in regular way, but u can use built in speaker or earphones included -u should buy a memory card -quality of earphones included is poor -batery indicator isnt very accurate, but u can use phone status (even a shortcut key) to check batery status in percents, it is more precise -strange keypad - i always press 0 instead of 8 But u will get: -a quite resistant phone - it has fallen few times, but no damage or even scraches were made; no skraches or brushes externally after 4 months use -good baterry backup -nice quality camera -racional menu (u can make almost everything whenever u want just with few clicks) -nice control of multiapplicational use (task manager is similar to WinXP applicatins tab) -u always see a clock above, even if u use menu at a time -ergonomic when taken in hand -a lot of different shortcut keys -realiable software really im not dissappointed with my decision to buy this phone :)

To respond to an earlier post from YcXw, I got my Z710 flashed from a website called Wotanserver, never had any issues with the firmware and it de-branded my phone as well so I can now use my MP3's as ringtones.

Great phone, I've had it for 6 months now, still working perfectly even after being dropped a few times... Pros: - Sturdy construction for a flip. - Both the external and internal displays are clear even in sunny conditions. - Internal screen colors are vivid. - Speakerphone is the best I've listened to on a cell. - Multi-tasking is great, you can listen to music while playing games, using an app or browse the web. - Phone's reception is excellent. - Works with large capacity memory cards (I just bought a 4Gb Sandisk M2 and it works perfectly fine). - Bluetooth Stereo works with the HBH-DS970 headset. - Great battery life - Relatively inexpensive considering all the features. Cons: - A bit Bulky. - Battery indicator is not very precise. If you get this phone, I strongly suggest you upgrade the phone's firmware to its twin model, the Sony-Ericsson W710 which has the Walkman software and animated flash menus.

Hi. We have had this phone (black) for several months. It is not the most stylish phone (it is a bit bulky). It is not the most advanced. It hasn�t got the best camera. But it is still awesome. Why? Simply put: Because it just works so well and has some features that makes it unique: - The keys are awesome. They are very easy to type with and you can feel a distinctive click when a key is pressed. - When closed it has a slider that can lock the keys on the outside. This is very important so that you don�t accidently turn on the music player or take a lot of pictures of the inside of your pocket (a problem with e.g. Nokia 6131). - The plastic is of high quality. Still metallic sparkling and not a scratch even after months at the bottom of a ladies bag. Furthermore it is a Sony-Ericsson phone and thus has attractive screen layout, fonts, menus and icons (I think the plain ugly menus is a major drawback for all Samsung and LG phones). It is really a nice phone, which you just seems to appreciate more and more every day.

Hi I've owned this phone for 3 weeks and it's great, bluetooth and infrared works like a dream and the camera is good (just set the quality to 'fine'), sound and call quality is brilliant, and I like the external display too. Just one thing bothering me, is there any way to add MIDI tracks to the music player? I can only seem to add MP3/MP4 tracks to it. I've seen it done on other Walkman phones before so I thought it was possible. Any help would be appriciated thanks!

yes, a pda can connect to the net using bluetooth and this phone. but the exact steps for setting up the phone for that depends on the carrier used. yes, it supports 2GB cards. im currently using one right now. yes, the click perfectly normal. most likely its a switch to register if the phone is open or closed. i have noticed that the external screen turn on or off depending on the click.

I have been using the Z710i since it was launched in India, i was one of the very first to get this phone. I have been using cell phones for more than 11 years now and have used most of the popular brands and models. The Z710i is an excellent phone with very few complaints. My phone is working trouble free thru avergely rough use. My only complaints are that the video playback has no forward and rewind and there is no Full Screen option. And of course the Photocall is of no use because the external display does not support it. A good phone for its price. 9/10 in my opinion.

yep, third party apps (as long as its java based) isnt much of a problem on the standard firmware. when it comes to charges, it will depend on your plan and carrier. this because the app needs to gather data from the net, and that traffic you most likely have to pay for unless you have some kind of flat rate data plan or similar.

Just bought this phone in Canada to use with Fido's network. I must say I'm really impressed. This phone is very sleek and takes away all the frustrations from using some of the basic features of a cell phone on the markets these days. The software is well designed and very intuitive to pick up and use. I was mainly looking for a phone that would offer good reception in remote areas (z710i is quad-band), allows me to text message (z710i can store 900+ messages, according to some other reviews), offers a portable camera to capture some memorable or hilarious pictures (z710i has a 2.0 megapixel camera) and offers Walkman capabilities for long commutes to work (z710i is compatible with up to a 2GB M2 card). This phone met all of my requirements and I'm very pleased with my purchase. In comparison, I was looking at Sony w300i and Samsung e900 in Lower Mainland area. However, the w300i phone lacked some functionality that I needed while e900 brought along unnecessary features, such as PDF reader, that raised the phone's price. So far, I haven't had any problems with this phone... although, I am not too fond of having Fido's firmware installed on the phone because they restrict you from using MP3 files as ringtones. Overall, I suggest: - Check local listings for this phone (don't buy this phone from a carrier or a retailer) - Try to get it unbranded to truly enjoy some of its features (such as using MP3 files as ringtones) - Only thing I didn't like was that this phone doesn't come with any traditional ringers P.S. If anyone knows of any good sites that allow you to flash the phone and install latest firmware, please advise. I would prefer to do it myself but don't know where to look. Bought the Z710 in India, but gonna use it in the US. However, once I got back to the US, the phone just doesn't charge. Adapters are fixed in tight, the adapter says 110-240 volts, the socket is not faulty as other equipment works fine there -- just the phone doesn't charge. Another SE phone bought from India at the same time also with the same problem -- even after interchanging the charger wires. Could it be that I need a voltage converter or something?

I haven't had any problems with this phone, but keep in mind that in Canada, Fido puts some of their own software on the phone and this can cause problems. I have had this phone for less than one month and I must say that I am very pleased. I can use mp3 as ringtones and full use of 3rd party apps like Google Maps and Opera Mini. This has to do with the fact that I purchased this device unbranded which adds value to the phone. My only complaint would be that sometimes the interface does not show certain menu items. Rather, it shows the file system location. All in all, it is one terrefic phone worth every penny.

My opinion on this phone is that, if you want a stylish phone, or just want something to run with, then you need the Sony Ericson z710i. I have this phone, and the camera has finaminal pictures, my parents got me this for my birthday, and it is great. It is my forth cell phone, and so far, the best. just installed a 2GB sandisk M2 card. worked like a charm! what i did was hook the phone up to a computer using the usb cable, put the phone in file transfer mode, copied over to the computer the data on the existing card, turned the phone off, installed the new card, did the prosess in reverse. note that the phone will automatically create the folders stuff. just overwrite them as i cant see any problems so far.

Yes there is speakerphone. And one Can use a mp3 as ringtone. The phone should even come with some on the m2 card. Just open the file manager, in to music, highlight a mp3 (they should be indicated by icon), hit more, select use as, select ringtone. All in all its a nice phone. Only problem so far is what i suspect to be a bad battery connector. The phone sometimes dies when i close it. One spotts it by the external screen not turning on when doing so. It appears that pushing in the charger port ever so often help to counter this...

Wow, I've had this phone for less than a week and I must say I am amazed. I only got this as a temp phone until the W580 comes out but it has surpassed all of my expectations. The music player is not first class like the Walkman Player Ver2.0, but it should satisfy most audiophiles out there. The camera is not one of SE finest but it also get the job done. However there is one downside to this phone, and that is it's inability to use mp3 files as ringtones. However I have found a loophole, if you convert the mp3 file to a .wav file then it will allow you to use it (hope that answers your question ANDY), the quality of the converted file does become a bit shoddy but not to the extent that it is inaudible. So, if you are looking for a nice well rounded beginner phone or temp phone I highly recommend the Z710.

It's the first cell I have owned.. so far I'm happy.. It might not be the best on the market but It does what its supposed to.. On top of that With 1 geg of mem you can also use it as a back up for inportant files (really documents) on your computer) People try to remember.. It is a phone its intended to talk to other people.. and it does just that.. All the others are extras :)

it has 4x DIGITAL zoom i think. Which means it loses picture quality when zooming. But as with other SE mobiles, i don't think you can zoom when in the highest picture quality and size. Well i don't have the phone so someone who does - prove me wrong :p

at first i also like the W710i because of the walkman and the big memory chips but at the end i choosed the Z710i because some users had a problem about the rubber padding of the W710i..it loosen in a month of use..about the battery, yes at first the battery drain quickly but the truth is, you will attain the good battery life for 3 to 4 charging(coz its new), always remember you must drain it before charging again..it will give you a better battery.. much better if you choosed the Z710i then replace the memory to 1 gig, so you will save more songs and pictures..

I just got the silver shade of this phone about a week ago and i like it than the black one. I like the external control buttons coz i could easily play music without flipping it up. I just bought the phone, very light, too much plastic. Bought from SonyEricsson, Only came with 64Mb card, Cheapskate. Phone is very much like the 520a, which I had also, took a dump on me; just like window! I have had plenty of Sony's phones, t28, t39, t68, etc. This one is way too pricey. Froze frequently, about to call SonyE and see if they can change it for me. It's very bulky. It's not for listening to music - from the phone. Connection very good, useless with any of the Sony�s Bluetooth headset. Only good with Nokia head set. By the way I have many of different model of SonyE Bluetooth headset, including the IV835... That one looks good again useless, no one can hear. The only good thing about the Z710i is the Memory card and it�s multiple entries for phone numbers! WASTE of money. Should have kept the money and bought the Nokia 8801.

I bought the Z710i.... ITS AMAZING!!! I upgraded the memory stick to a 2GB and bought a set of bluetooth stereo headphones (Z710i has bluetooth 2!!!) That flip has a VERY descent camera quality and is FULLY costumizable!!! (FREE games,apps, themes and ringtones directly to the card without any download!!!) HIGHLY recommended!!!!!

to reply to the question of sms storage. it can store about a total of 1000 messages. but be aware that it does not separate sms and mms messages. and the number of messages stored is the sum of both the inbox and sendt messages. and it does not have a feature like on samsung where you can mark a message to not be deleted when you empty the inbox or similar...

I've had this phone for about a month now I agree that it doesn't have the greatest camera but still better than some. You can send and receive files via bluetooth. There is an 1 GB m2 card for this phone I think they go as big as 2 Gb now. All in all id rate this phone at 8 out of ten. Its a little bulky and the external screen is monochrome other than that I'm pretty happy with it.

iam now using z710i. i really enjoy using this phone. 3g is useless for me since im not into video calling or live video streaming. im after with the cam, radio, flip phones, and mp3 player. my only comment on this phone? the external display doesn't have any features to be functional when you flip-open the phone except when the call connection is succeeded. nevertheless, i do much enjoy z710i than my previous v3x and n70.

ringtones also work with wma for me. thanks to whoever posted that! I was so pissed at my phone for not letting me use mp3 ringtones. Just my opinion of this phone, I was using a nokia 6230i and only switched because the sony had a warranty and it was free, also the 6230i battery life was terrible but after using the sony, i like the nokia much more, its way easier to use and there's lots of little things about the sony that I don't like. Its sad because I"m comparing the sony to a phone released in 2005 q1. also, with similar use, the sony is only good for two days at the very most. Just my opinion.

i buy alot of mobiles cause i find it hard to find 1 i like. i had no trouble when i brought the w710i & my husband has the z710i, we had no problems when sending bits from old mobile to our new sony ericsson via bluetooth, everything sent 1st time, so no there is not a problem with the sending or recieving via bluetooth with either of these phones. it has been said that if you have a motorola phone then its not sending via bluetooth as it does not seem to reconise the phone but this happens alot with motorola when trying to use bluetooth!!!

although it says the w710i is a fitness phone, all it has is a section for counting your steps, running etc, this can be turned off if not needed so will just be like any other walkman phone

yes the mega bass is the only difference but in the w710i you can select your own playlist so you can play the songs that you like in your order, the z710i does not have this option so it will just play any music or text alerts cause it will not know the difference when you play the music

Just got this phone from Fido, and so far I'm very happy with it. The main inconvinience has been the cant use your own mp3 ringtone policy Fido has crippled this phone. Fortunately it is extremely easy to fix. You have 3 options: 1. Just use wma files, they work fine. Use the Windows media encoder and then just load to the phone. This is what iv been doing. 2. Use the sony drm wrapper to make drm'd mp3s. 3.Flash your phone's firmware or "unbranding" as its known. This will terminate your warranty immedietly so its not reccomended. Other than that the phone is awsome, good reception, excellent voice quality, and a whole shmack of stuff in it that I will probably never use.

I figured it out. It does support MP3 tones if u get if "flashed" When you buy a phone from a provider like FIDO, they restrict some options like MP3 ringtones because they want you to download they're ringtones. Flashing your phone will cost money. I got mine flashed from cellcorner.com and now it works perfectly. you gotta flash it yourself with the program provided. All you need is your USB cable and some common sense. Its fairly simple. Hope this helped. email me if you have probs

About memory: yes you can upgrade the external memory up to 2 GB (if i'm not mistaken). a 64 MB external memory is included in the pack. About w710i vs z710i: in my opinion, if you don't listen to mp3's and don't exercise that often, it's better for you to buy z710i. it's cheaper and it has the same features (except, of course, the Walkman and the fitness features). The music player in z710i is already good. I think it has the same quality as the Walkman of w800i. But if you have the money and you wish to buy a clamshell-music phone, w710i would be the best solution. Other comments: Overall this phone is good. It only lacks flash and autofocus on it's camera feature. i've been using this phone for a month now. and so far i've experienced no major troubles or errors. this phone, i can say, is the perfect 'budget' phone.

The w710i also has a 512mb card included the z710i only has 64mb card included other than that & the different colours and the walkman features and playlists available on the w710i that's the only difference between them. It should be worth mentioning that since you can listen to mp3's on the z710i anyway its not really worth buying the w710i if you don't listen to mp3's alot or you already have a mp3 player as theres a �50 ($100) difference in price here.

phone is good. lacks autofocus thats why picture quality is not as good as W810. More volume than W810 but a little minor in quality. Battery is great if i charge it via USB cable but its really worst if i charge it via conventional charger. mp3 can be used as ring tones and even can be used for message alert. i dont know why many people are complaining about mp3 playback as ringtones. might be some problem with the firmware which requires an update or might be certain features disabled by the operator who has provided you the phone with connection. memory card is very expansive if someone planning to upgrade. hands free is good but not as good as are offered along with W series but its compatible so its very easy to upgrade (rather convert) your Z710 to W710 :). But still, it shud be having autofocus, thats the only thing which is degrading its quality. otherwise, best phone & features at best price...

hi all. i just bought this phone 2 weeks ago. this is what i discovered. - The media player is almost equivalent to Walkman. - Two thumbs up for the speaker! - The camera is also good, although it doesn't produce very good indoor pics (under minimum lighting). - External display although monochromatic is very informative and it makes the phone looks more interesting :-) - Fair-sized keypad. ideal for big thumbs. - downsides: no flash, phone's kinda thick and bulky, u can't take pics if u close the phone overall, i think this phone is superb. the price also isn't that expensive. in fact, i think for a phone like this, the price is cheap. i bought it for Rp 2.05m (indonesian rupiahs, equivalent to +/- US$ 230). if u r considering on buying this phone, i recommend u do.

yes what you say is right but you can not back up phone bits to memory card! to set the ringing tune you go to settings, rt click to sounds & alerts, just below the ring volume is the ringtone opion, set your mp3 ringtune this way cause it works for me!

To ZKM The Toala phone memory is about 27MB when I first started it it shows 18MB free memory and there was some vodeos, pictures, templates,ringtones, themes. I downloaded a 25MB vedio file and was saved in videos on memory card. The message alert setting is not in the profiles, but it is the messaging.

For me this phone is the best. It can read word and excel after saving them as htm iistead of doc and Xls. For those who miss the flash,there is a real flash as accessories better than the light of K750. The phone plays MP3,ra,rm,ram(rename as rm),wma,aac,mid,amr, and You can set any of these as ringtone by going to file manager and then go to the file, and press more then select use as. You can also take a photo from a video by starting video player, then selet a video clip and play then pause and select more > save picture. I like the screen reloution 176x220 because it display letters bigger than the high resolution 240x320 which display more clear pictures. So for reading purpose 176x220 is better

if you have a dual line on sim card you can not switch between two lines by using menu because switching line function is missing in software.But in user manual, you can switch between two lines. Is there anybody who has this experience??

Getting one delivered in a few days, it was this (free) or the z610 which was �50 upgrade. This replaces my k750i which for the last few months was a complete pain as the toggle packed up! I understand these dont suffer like 750's do. Will miss the flash but hey at the end of the day its a phone, looks quite nice too. Maybe i'll post in a week once Ive got used to it!

Just have the fone 5 days - love it. Unfortunately, I think I am going to have get another z710 sent as I think I've got a faulty one. Hopefully a teething problem. Has anyone had an issue where it does not register calls? I have no new records for any of the calls whether in/out/missed in the past 2 days. V irritating. I dont think its fair to compare Z710 to W900. Frist of all, they are different series from Sony. Secondly, they came out at different times. At third, the have different price tags. Why bother to compare these 2 phones?

i'll advise u to buy this fone becoz its a really very durable and nice fone display is sharp very better than z610i keypad is very very nice external display can show u msgs,videos, self pictures alarms calendar etc and thats 1.5'' internal display is a bit larger than 1.9 inch but very good full screen camera interferance very nice sound similar to w810i stereo widening and boosted equilizers mp3 application similar to w810i + A2DP (stereo blurtooth) profile and version 2.0 dimensions are smaller than even w300i while fone is in your hand u will feel very nice very fast java full screen videos with fast forward VERY VERY VERY GOOD BATTERY LIFE NO 3G NO AUTOFOCUS

hyder: i think you're madden guy, look, the W900i doesn't have edge, but it has 3g, in the near future, no more EDGE, 3G will replace EDGE, and second thing, you mistake, W900i equipped with Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP not this phone, thirdly, W900i is a walkman phone, so it's multimedia function definitely beat this phone, i'm very sure you didn't try W900i before. If about camera function, w900i is also definitely beat this one

Unknown's right, W900i include more feature than this phone, if you care only about one fact, forget that W900 can support video call, bluetooth of 2.0, a complete multimedia functions, it's price might be a little high but still better than this phone. Beside, try to watch 3g2 on this phone, it doesn't support many multimedia format like Sony W900i, luckily i own one, beside, does this phone support UTMS like W900? One more fact, it's loudspeaker is no way compare to W900, go and test it for yourself

The only difference between the W and the Z is the Phone speaker sond and the Headset. The W is better than the Z. All the rest is the same and O yes the price of the W is about Inr3000/- (approxUS$70) higher. I have this phone and so far no complaints. It has given me value for money.

I bought this phone 3 weeks ago, I was a Motorola fan for the past 5 years, but I decided to change because I needed more applications not juts good looking. I do not regret it, is a great phone, a lot of features, great camera, because it has EDGE I can surf the web very fast, I also can manage my laptop from my phone thanks to the remote control application. I see 3 cons: - Low baterry life (much less than I expected) - With no flash light indoors you have poor resolution in camera - Outside display should be colors, otherwise why should i keep pictures of my contacts if I can only see them when I open the phone? for me from 1 to 10 --- 8 Motorola fans.... try something else than nice phones, try something useful

Overall, the phone is not bad at all. I got this phone for 300 US dollars with shipping. The external screen only shows part of the text message. you can check appointments for the day. You can play videos.

The back light is not always on. It will be turned on when you press the external buttons, or when you close the phone. The phone doesn't play full screen video, which sucks.

continue... The battery life is a little shorter than what I expected. I played some mp3s, and talked on the phone for like an hour for one day. I need to recharge it at night. Maybe it's just my first day getting it, so I played on it a lot. Sony is used to be considered as good at battery life. I hope this is does too. At last, if you ask for my opinion, I wouldn't recommend this phone for you, because I don't want that many people to have the same good phone as I do, haha.

I like this phone, mostly because of its look. In fact, the real one does look very cool too. It's a thick phone compare to other slim flip phones, so if you are looking for a slim phone, dont buy this one. I actually like its thickness. It fits comfortably in my hand. Fliping open and close the phone makes a "duh" sound, telling you it's in the right position...(not sure about this one). My package of the phone comes with USB cable, the software CD, 64mb M2 already installed in the phone, manuel, and the handset. The original package doesn't come with the handfree I think, because the seller that I bought from claimed that the stereo handfree was a gift. I try the MP3 function, the quality of the mp3s is as good or better as K750, the one I had before. The external screen is very big, but the blue color is not the same as the showcase photo shows, a little darker. When you are talking the screen will remain on with pure blue color, which looks very cool at night. Plus the inside keypad blue lighting is very cool in dark too. Text msg can't be read on the external screen (at least I don't know how to). The external buttons can be locked by a slider button at the side of the phone. The internal screen is the same size as K750, a little disappointment on this. continue later...

This handset will be out on o2 around about the 7th of October. If recent SE's are anything to go by, it should be a great handset, with a fantastic battery life and extremely easy to use!

Paul, Actually the antenna is still external, except that now it is tucked away to the back. So I'd expect the reception to be great, just like the other Sony Ericsson phones with external antennas. Here's a photo from the angles which show the antenna: I'd copy it into the address bar, cos sometime things don't hyperlink properly on this forum.

at around $350 with deliver cost the phone and style is actually worth the wait. I got tmobile and nothing they have says let met sign up for 2 more years just to get a discount on a phone. Well thats just my personal opinion, which most likely means nothing.

I look at the specification both of them almost 100% similar,except Z710 has 2 Mpx vs 1.3 Mps in 6131; poliphonic 72 vs 64; and the screen 262.000 vs 16 M. Please share your experience completely. if one is after a camera-phone, a clamshell with the lense on top of the clam isnt a good choice. designs like the samsung Z710 or the LG P7200 is much better for that kind of use.

This phone must have the same or better flash than the k750i for me to buy this. This is potentially my first clamshell providing they add the flash. Design I love it I want it but that not flash thing is a major problem, because going from a k750i to this is gonna be a problem. Does SE have a suggestion box? BEcause I remember when techtv was on the air Leo and Pat bashed a Sony product for not using regular mp3 formatting and the next week or something like that they changed it to support mp3. If that could happen in this case it'll be killer and for sure I'll get this. Anyway laters P.S. Put the flash!! :) Later

This one is pretty similar to Z550i which also is much cheaper. The difference is the 2.0 mp camera, bigger display on the outside and some other minor differences right? They aren't much different are they? What do you people think? This one is also thicker and has that annoying thing onthe back so you can put a neck-band through it. Also the screen isn't TFT, it's SNT or whatever it's called...is it better?

Remember Sony's retro 3rd generation handset? The Night Red Z1010?? I used that phone for 2 and a half years and abosolutly loved it. I was waiting for SE to release an upgraded version. With a better camera and maybe FM radio. This phone looks like it could be the one. However it's not 3G. This means my Sim might not work. And if it does work i loose my 3G features. Anywho i got impatient earlier this year and upgraded my phone to a Nokia 6280. Biggest mistake of my life!!!!!! When the phone is not turning it'self off or deleting my contacts it works like a piece of Crap. Do you know how many times my phone saves my text to draft while i'm still typing it? I almost cried and smashed it last night. Also the predictive text is no Sony. Cycle through the possible word matches and it is not logical. Puts your added words at the bottom of the list, and to edit a word to go in this list you need push options, and edit word is 9th option which is too far and too many button pushes. You see my frustration???? So does anybody have any SE 3G flip news to cheer me up?
