Cat B100 - User Reviews

  • It's very basic

  • Java app working. Word, pdf reader...

  • Hello everyone. I have this device for a couple of years and I'm very happy with this phone. durability and call quality are very good.

  • i have it, its ok phone!

  • excellent phone for calls and sms. java apps are not working at all, no any software support available

  • You have

  • who cares? if it's water/dustproof, who cares about cat brand?

  • hi to all freinds The possibility of download the Arabic language does not exist??? thanks

  • cat b100 it can download whattapp pls help

  • do you think caterpillar had anything to do with the manufacturing of this phone? I dont. They manufacture heavy equipment. Just bears the name.

  • Yes this is a good sturdy phone but its more on the low quality side, I would say. Pros: LED Flashlight Sturdy Waterproof is really good Speaker Long lasting battery Cons: Multimedia Error Service Problems? Features, low quality FM radio only with earphones

  • Seems you did not use the original battery. I had a replacement cell and the temperature sensor has at my home temperature 75kOhm while the original battery has 7.5kOhm. You can measure it between T and - contact. I added a little 10 k resistor in parallel. But this disables the battery temperature control during charging!!!!

  • I'm having problems sending pictures.i do it on mms it acts like it goes through but no one gets it

  • Any ideas why it won't receive picture messages, says COMM failure.

  • How to remove the sim card?

  • I want change language cat b100 to Arabic, I don't know , plz help me

  • I am also getting this warning, did you find a solution?

  • Yes - it has blacklist features

  • I have recently bought this phone,it's great on paper but damn the font size in the OS is TINY. It looks like they shrinked their touchscreen OS and ported it here. With not the best sunlight visibility and the tiny fonts,i litterally had it 15cm from my eyes. The smallest font in the UI is in the Phone book,it shows you 5/6 contacts at once and there is no way to enlarge it. All of these problems could be fixed with a software update, but yea wont happen. Shame, otherwise the phone is really something special with this design and its durability.

  • pass.1122

  • Please some one answer me is this phone have black list call and can use pin code to lock display?

  • What is your recomendation alternative for this phone

  • anyone know what warning low battery temperature means?

  • Hello, The phone memory allows you to save 500 contacts :) Cheers!

  • How many contacts it can save?it's important for me

  • I bought this phone because I wanted a non Android or OS phone. Basically I wanted a non nonsense device. I had the B15Q and it wasn't a "real" CAT phone, and I'm saying that because it was running Android. And Android has nothing to do with the Caterpillar name. Now, the B 100 has a proprietary CAT menu, which makes it a "real" Caterpillar phone. I absolutely love it. This is used with the SIM card from work, I have a IPhone 5s also, but this little CAT is my favourite, before I go to sleep I hold it in my hand a bit and then I go to sleep smiling because of this "basic cheap phone"

  • Okay your Icelandic is not good enough in this phone. When I put the phone on Icelandic he will be both on Icelandic and English... That's not good enough. If you are trying to set some language on the phone please finish it

  • How do I send multiple sms with the phone, for instance - selecting a group from my phonebook?

  • I think cell and smart phones are turning the full circle. The novelty of the smart phone as being a "must have" is wearing thin in certain areas. The B100 is a great no nonsense phone for anyone needing a first class communication tool in ANY working or home environment, My one complaint is the absence of a FONT SIZE selection feature. When one has an emergency, a work or home related SMS etc sending or receiving the font is too minute to check or even read without stopping to put on reading glasses. How about software to correct this, such a feature, well advertised could easily change the B100 into a "MUST HAVE" phone

  • is this phone have conversation in massaging menu and how much massage can be save?

  • Is it possible to display GPS coordinates on screen while having a phone call?

  • The phone's software does not have a way to block calls from "unknown" callers. Expect to get calls/interruptions from those using blocked caller ID.

  • The phone's software does not have a way to block calls from "unknown" callers. Expect to get calls/interruptions from those using blocked caller ID.

  • but it does not allow Whatsapp

  • Seems there is not possible to change "theme" or the background picture in the menu screen. Display background only aplies to the main screen. Everywhere else is the stone pattern. This makes it harder to read sms because it reduces contrast between background and text.

  • " A bad RIP OFF" Lol as if Chinese manufacturers originated anything. The one you are refering to, the Jeep Z6 IP64, is no exception to their plagiarizing tradition, it came out in 2014, announced in 2013 after the first Caterpillar rugged series (with their unique design, features and OS) was released. They didn't even bother changing the Caterpillar's yellow button theme in their cheap immitations, just made an almost identical design and put Android into it.(with bigger screen, meaning its batterylife will not live up to its original usage purpose)

  • A fantastic phone for what it is, it feels good in the hand, and it's a fantastic size to boot (smallish). It's also a great conversation piece. People are curious as to why I'm using a phone from the 90's in 2015. I'm always happy to tell them it came out 2013, and it's built like a firetruck. Waterproof as advertised, shockproof, dustproof... If you don't want all the bell and whistles of the smartphones, you'll like this baby. As for the downsides... It seems that it's a little weaker at grabbing signal in my apartment, compared to a smartphone. Also, the max volume could be higher - I find I'm always playing music at max volume with my headset on, and it's not loud enough. My biggest issue with this phone is that it can overheat easily. A phone call lasting a few hours probably will slap you in the face with a "Battery Over Temperature" warning. I suppose this is the main tradeoff with something built airtight to keep water out. I had a horrible accident that ended up killing my Cat B100, and I bought another one, after having the first one for a few years... after buying a few more after that... It's that good. A reliable little dumb phone.

  • how to swicth of the alert light?

  • I use my B100 for kayaking. But the Sun reflections does it hard to read the screen. Any suggestions to improve.

  • hi can this phone whatsupp

  • This is a cheap crap Chinese phone had it for two days missed over 38 calls it does not do what they say it does its just a phone to make and receive call its not for a business man phonebook memory way to small ringing way to soft the list goes on cat phones not good the Chinese jeep phone cheaper and way better not a rip off

  • You set emails under messages, this phone works fine, as long as you don't need whatsapp.

  • How do you get it to do email?

  • Hi I have one question how is the battery life, I mean the talk time does it last the whole day or do you have to charge it up multiple times?

  • I have the Cat B100 and can confirm it does do email.

  • do you still get this phone? would like to buy my Father 1 because he cant come right with this new phone that have touch screens. How much is it? Kind regards, Charmaine

  • Just got my CAT B100 last week and I'm over the moon with it. Admittedly, it's a no frills bit of gear, offers hardly any of the fancy stuff a smart phone has and really isn't a pretty sight. But that's the point, it's for outdoor use where all that fancy stuff isn't needed, where you've other things to do than playing around with your phone. For that it's rugged, water proof, takes a bit of hammering and has a real and precise keyboard that avoids fat finger syndrome. In other words a real man's mobile. For those only used to smart phones the user interface might be a bit of a pain at first. But it's not really much different to land line phones and is in fact simpler to use once you've got the hang of it. Apart from the rugged outdoor features my biggest joy is the huge standby time of 25 days. I've always hated having to remember every day to keep my smart phone charged. A feature that I also like is the built-in GPS. Most dumb-phones don't have that, but I really think if you're going to have an outdoor phone GPS should be part of it. For this you can of course install the Google Maps App, but I like to be independent of having to load down the maps from the internet, especially when your in the wilds somewhere without an internet connection. So I just loaded down OpenStreetMaps that I saved on my SD-memory chip. To read the maps you need a bit of navigation software. There's a whole load of free JAVA software on the internet for this, just Google "Navigation with Java Mobile" or something like that and you'll soon find a few websites offering advice, information and links. There's a whole load I could still post here, but that's the most important stuff. As far as I'm concerned I don't really miss all the other things my smart phone has to offer, especially when I'm out and about.

  • does it have email configuration?

  • I got what I wanted - a worry-free cellphone with green button, red button, contacts and life-long battery. Once forgot into my trousers and through the washing machine it went; 60 degrees Celcius with all the chemistry and still working fine. Drop, drown, forget and smash androids! Happy with it, regardless of the yellow font.

  • great battery life. good solid heft. interesting ring tones. bullet proof - water proof ------so far. tiny hard to read weird yellow script on mini screen. weird uk navigating menu. b100 dumb phone - is what i wanted. my samsung rugby is much more user friendly, desent size script on screen, easy read. bottom line: its really a coversation piece since most people have never seen it before - wish i didnt either. but i started with the motorola black brick phone. then nokia. then motorola star tek have a whole drawer full - soon this b100 is going in the "dead drawer" ! you asked ! you got it !

  • no. It doesn't have Android OS or iOS

  • I think, that it is impossible to import Google maps in this phone. This isn't smartphone. This is very durable phone. This isn't full smartphone (like HTC ONE M8 or Samsung Galaxy)

  • Hi all, I bought Cat B100 (in Slovakia), few thoughts about it. I had some work with importing my contacts from Google. The PhoneSuite Cat B100 5.4.1 accepts only vcf format (no csv), and only one-contact per one-vcf file. So I had to split my multiple-contacts-vcf file obtained from Google into individual vcf-files (thanks to the VCFCutter tool). To ensure local language preservation in loaded vcf contacts I had to switch phone language to Slovak. Importing of vcf-contacts into the PhoneSuite Cat B100 5.4.1 program works only by cca 10 files at once (I had more than 150 cvf files). Big disappointment: imported vcf files were without addresses/pictures. Only name, phone number, date of birth. Addresses and other data are losts. Another problem: I don't see option for importing Google Maps through the PC-connection. Mobile phone offers only per GSM downloading, what is charged. Maybe someone knows how to do that ? Yours, Miro

  • There is no provision for Whats app and you can't download anything as far as I recall. Nowhere to go to get it anyway. Save your money and go for Android or Windows O/S. I own a B100 so I can vouch for its retardedness in this area!

  • Does this phone have WiFi and can it take whattsapp

  • can dis phone watsup?

  • Can dis phone watsup?

  • I have this phone for 6 months now. very happy with it

  • Can this phone take whats up

  • can this cell phone whats' up ?

  • Its just as well that you can drop it and throw it at the wall because, when you try sms ing or using any of the functions , that's exactly what you will want to do. DO NOT buy this device without looking at the tiny writing, the terrible font colours, or the dismal selection of ring tones!

  • Very Well said.. that changed my decision to purchase and saving my money. Thank you.

  • Re my review opinion below - Whilst there are the issues I mentioned below re the handset features, I've persevered with it. Once you can work around the different O.S, it actually becomes rather ok to use. Either use all capitals, all small letters or use multi-tap which is sometimes quicker than predictive, especially when you are using abbreviations.

  • I have just purchased this handset which I felt was going to be a good decision - hmmmm! After barely 2 days of using it..... well..... The good - Nice solid & chunky design with excellent buttons for clumsy fingers. Uses Opera Mini for browser which gives you a reasonably good experience. Flashlight. Camera. The operating system is extremely similar to Sonim with the calendar layout/function and some of the notifications; which makes me think that Sonim may have had some involvement with the design. BUT SADLY, that's where the love affair ends. Why? Where to start???? Ok, here goes, and I'll be bluntly honest. Ringtone selections are poor and not very pleasant. Setting your own tone is possible, but it is very low volume. There are only 4 alert tones available and they are not that exciting. You may set your recordings off your MicroSD card as a ringtone but not as an alert tone. Main menu screen is a greenish/yellow color and not very easy on the eye. Sonim have their menu entries with a line number, so you can key in the line number to go to a specific item rather than scroll down. You can do that on the CAT B100, but you will be guessing the line number and then scroll up or down from there. I have a 4GB MicroSD card with plenty of free space, and the handset tells me I have plenty of storage, yet after 25 brief calendar entries, I get the message "Calendar list is full." ????? Sms - I could only work out how to send a message to multiple recipients by selecting them from "Contacts" first. Then I was restricted to 20 contacts per message. Sms system is weird. Unless you are using multi tap just like the "old days" before predictive text arrived, you use a predictive system called Cstar. Very off-putting. It lets you choose a word from the options presented horizontally along the base of the screen which is fine; however, the text you are inputting appears in a rectangular box directly above the above mentioned. In order for the text to appear in the main text body of the message you have to press the "D" center circle or select soft key. Takes a bit of getting used to and nowhere near as effective as predictive T9 system or Android offerings. Text input in so-called "smart" ABC or abc is exactly that. You can either choose to SHOUT YOUR MESSAGE ALL IN CAPITALS or the entire message in small letters, including the first letter of a sentence and "i." Unless you can read small font or don't have 20/20 vision you will find it extremely difficult to see what you are entering especially in the search boxes. The font is small and can not be changed. Replying to an email is odd as I never know where to start entering my text, and it usually ends up below the text of the person who sent the original email to you and once again, unless you want to make more movements than a data entry operator, you will be either having all the small letters again making you look lazy and incompetent or TYPE ALL IN CAPITALS AND SHOUT YOUR REPLY. I could have lived with all the deficiencies. Seriously I could have. Why? It's an extremely comfortable handset to hold and possibly the best phone keypad and soft keys I have EVER used - and for that reason alone I could have tolerated the deficiencies. But when the OS expects that I will only ever have 25 calendar entries at any given point in time; well - I may as well be at a meeting taking notes on a piece of bathroom tissue........ and that alone........... from a handset released in early 2014 and facing competition from many other manufacturers in the Rugged Device market...... and for which the OS is just not up to the par.......... is a poor result. This could have been an awesome phone but for me... it simply isn't. If you want it for the ruggedness and the size of they keys alone; then this could be ideal for you. The price of $270 NZD was certainly excellent buying. But seriously, IMO and experience of using a total of 95 handsets since November 1993, this device could have been a real winner if only the designers had put as much effort and attention into the software as they obviously have with the hardware. It takes me back to the early low resolution color screen offerings we saw back in the earlier cheaper models of years gone by. One of the pitfalls of buying a device "sight unseen" via on-line mail order. CAT - I feel more like I've got a DOG! Rating 4/10 and that's for the hardware design ONLY, otherwise a 2/10 for me.

  • Hi, all Which is the actual S.A.R value (head and body) for Europe frequencies? Can you assosiate your own melodies from the memory card as ring tones? Thank you.

  • Sounds like a good phone 3G will work 100% on T-Mobile and AT&T in the USA better than Sonim which only makes models with 3G compatible only with one carrier

  • KEINE Geotagging. :-(

  • I want to purchase this phone please tell me from where I can purchase it I am from Pakistan
