I had this phone (bought from Japan) for 6 years and I had no problem with it. Battery never dyed and it still works although now, after six years, the battery dies quickly. It was a reliable phone , I dropped it many times but there was nothing wrong with it. The software never jammed or blocked. I had no errors whatsoever. I am sorry to change it bu I will buy another sonyericsson with a display that has a higher resolution. If wou compare it with SE Cedar you will find many resemblances. I love 802 SE :)

the Z800 is an awesome phone, but not cool battery.. 4hour battery life stanby , after that it dies,. and the phone fell, secondary lcd is broken, my camera sucks, turns upside down, too slow , but i love the resolution, when i buy this unit, no free memory card but i love it...

It's so sad that everyone want to buy i expensive phone for 5000sek(~500 dollar) when they can get i good mobile for less than 500sek(~50 dollar).. But i really like that they keep the technical data somewhere even for old mobiles.

I am not sure if anyone is still interested in knowing about this phone, since it's SUPER OLD. However, I have kept my Z800i ever since the first day I bought it. I switched the covers for the black Vodaphone ones and that's all I did. I have to say, apart from the fact that the camera is old and the phone is slightly slow, the rest of the phone still holds up quite well. I'm still using it every day. It's one big dinosaur though, one of the thickest flip phones I've ever had.

I love this phone! Have it since sept 2005 and still going strong... The Bad: - the battery charger doesn't connect so well with the phone anymore.. i have no idea why it "loosened" up.. so sometimes i gotta check if it's charging when they're attached.. - phone memory.. i dun want to delete some messages after all these years, but my sim card is limited as well.. - bulk and small screen and other 2005 features, as compared to its latest predecessors.. The Good: - the 2 main reasons I don't want to change my mobile are the texture (i really love the grooved titanium) and the music speakers. - the rotating camera.. it's 1.3 and blurry but its flexibility is much appreciated for many impromptu shots.. - the flash lights.. so far i've used it more as a flashlight than for taking pictures! lol - it's smash-proof.. i have dropped it so many times.. i just restrained another urge to get a new phone by getting a 1gb memory stick to plug in the latest music for the top-notch speakers.. =)

if you ask me about the battery stamina, well i bought 2 new extra battery packs for my phone and each 1 can last for 7hrs straight internet surfing before it totally drains out. all-in-all i have 3 batteries on hand, 21hrs internet browsing time and 12hrs talk time. hahaha! :D ;)

there are no major difference between the v800 and the z800. they have both the same specs except that the vodafone version has its restrictions on playing music like they have to put drm protection on their music before they can play it on v800. anyway, v800 can be modified so it works like z800. hope it helps you.

I found the signal loose when you close the phone is because the white wire that connects top half to the bottom half is loose. If you open the upper part of the phone you will notice it press it on and put a little tap on it Just make sure you dont pinch it when you put it together otherwise its completely done

one disadvantage of the phone is ruggedness and the only the change the phone's housing is to bring to ericssons repair shop. It would cost around php.3-4000 and there are no guarantee that it would work the same as before. So no wonder there are less people coming to their shop.

i have this phone now.. yes, you can use video call with this phone.. however, there are times when the signal for 3G, as well as service provider goes on and off.. i let a phone technician check it, they said it was about the flex of the phone or something..

My phone also encountered the "No Network" problem.. I had mine fixed in a local SE authorized service center here in the philippines (Semicon). They said it's the coax cable, it's a short white wire with two connectors on both ends ... Had no problem since then.

I have this phone for almost 2 years. The keypad is not good. you have to press realy hard. I had the same problem with the ringing that stopped working. you should reinsert and clean the sim card and memory card. besides that it is a great phone and it is very advanced. even today. it plays mpeg4 and I have no problems with 3g. the menu is very easy to use. I would go for it. even today.

Also the keypad is going to give up soon, but I don't care. I had LOAD of phones before but none of'em was as good as this. Congrats. I still rec it to anyone. It is still a very good phone.

I bought the se z800i two years ago, heaps of fetures in it, however issues i have been having with this phone and the 3G network which I am on, are: - 3G services arent that good (as so I have heard), but they did helped me regarding issues I had...so I am on the fence on this one... - sometimes when you try to sms and erase a character there is a glitch and it ends up erasing everything as if someone touched the C button and not letting it go (I call it the invinsible C :p) - Now, I can't close it, if I do, I loose signal/reception (it is said to be one of the common problems with this mobile) and when that happens no calls or sms can be received (even when the signal is back on again (that sms disspeared into thin air) - not very comfortable with sms buttons..a little hard great side of it: - not a bad cam, but night time/low light does not really perform well, has light on cam but very blinding :( - great features - great look but the silver can be easily scratched (need protection) - love the extra memory i can have on the phone I really-really liked this phone and recommend it but in the long run I dont think this phone is good...I am now in the market to find another phone and I am going over seas and this phone is not suitable for it... thinking of going back to Nokia, they seem very reliable...had them in the past with no problems at all... any suggestions?

I got this phone from my brother so i don't have its CD. In my first few months of use, i had no problems but lately, maybe because i had dropped it twice already, when it got shut off, i cannot hear it ringing. When I brought it to a technician he told me that I need to re-insert the memory card to activate the chosen ringtone or other settings. Why is this so? I've had this phone for approximately 18 months and I have to say it is an impractical, bulky and doesn't live up to its specifications. The screen is large but hard to see in sunlight and the top and bottom of the screen isn't used so the large size is useless. The fascia gets covered in fingerprints easily and always looks dirty and messy. The camera is okay in quality but it low light a lot of blue blurry spots appear and general rubbish pictures in these lighted situations. tHe software provided is useless and in no way user friendly. The speaker faces AWAY from you so it is difficult to hear playback of video recording et cetera. All in all I think I should have gone for a different model of mobile phone. I have nothing against sony ericsson, I just think this phone was a once off fluke because I'm considering purchasing the relatively new z800i!

Answers: Keypad cannot be locked. It's a clamshell so not necessary. Talktime is indeed 10 hours. Treat the battery well and they last long. For Li-On batteries that means: you can recharge any time as long as you charge them completely.

brilliant phone, had mine for a while now. Easy to get free games for it, stor on 1gb mem stick nad share with friends. Can store and take loads of high quality videos but photo not as impressive :-) No probs until today when for some unknown reason it decided to tun off mid-messagesending and so far has not yet decided to let me turn it back on. You can have repetaed alarms. Just use the recurrent alarm feature on the phone. The alarm tone can be changed as well. Just read the User Guide! before complaining!

I am Indonesian. I bought my Z800 last November 2005. This is a great phone. What I like the most are the flip looks, rotating camera and big body which make it classy. Also the application of "world converter" makes my job easier. The problem is the external screen and connection do not stand against magnetic field. I have a leather case which closed with 2 magnetic pairs. everytime i had a phone call and i open my leather case the connection stop and the picture dissapear from the external screen. If anyone have same problem and want to share the outcome, please e-mail me. The silver plastic cover also loose the metalic colour in some part but i think it is normal after long time use. I drop this phone accidently for 3 times but no damage happened. although in my opinion the chasing is not as strong as Siemens. I do not like the alarm since we can not set the tone and repeated method like Siemens. Good job SE. Thanks.

Juz got the Z800 from ova seas, the keypad in japan & eng . Phone is awsome man, bluetooth is great. Bought Scandisk 1gb / Use a MEM Stick Duo Reader for the pc. Upload mp4 movies and bumping the mp3. Phone make's Cell phone marketed in America look like shitz. One MAJOR Problem is Sony Need To make new firmware so it can support "Full Screen Playback" other than that. It sweet..

Paid for $$$ and it is a garbage!! It doesn't get connected to the network all the time. After use, it goes back to "No network service" and it takes a few secs to get connected. My cheap Motorola does a better job.

hey guys the phone has been awesome.. but the other nite i was sending a message and the screen locked up, a mainly green with black dots thingo came across the screen and then i rebooted it and it hasnt worked since.. when i turn it on there is just a plain white screen, anyway that i can fix it without having to go to a dealer? its really giving me the shits because im still getting sms and i cant read them, can make calls and stuff as well.. any assistance would be much appreaciated

hi guys, thanks for your opinions.. i've had similar problem where the keypad had to be pressed firmly which is very annoying when u r trying to send sms. Luckily it happened when the warranty is still available. By reading all ur opinions.. I've told them to repair "No Network" issue as well. i bought this phone Z800 about 8 months ago, everything works fine for me, no signal dropping problems, 3G works fine, camera, media player... everything's fine. actually i bought this phone is because of its design, feature comes on the second place. soon after i get my hands on the phone, i realise that the features are great, too. but still, a few lil problems, like battery gets "heat up" when use it for too long, the picture quality is abit low, even if compare to Motorola's VGA camera... overall, its gud owning this phone, as nokia're too common here in malaysia

Hi Jason, I am pretty sure that it is the Reception Kit that is malfunctioning in your Phone. The phone has a common Problem with the Internal Antenna. I had mine repaired while it was still under warranty.

Hi JB, I had the same reception problem. The Reception used to drop down as soon as I closed the Flip. Lucky my phone was still under warranty. I sent it for repairs. They replaced the reception kit or something. Now it is working fine. However there still is some drop in reception when the flip is closed. The Phone seems to be working fine now. I must say that phone has some good features like Manage calls (restrict certain incoming calls) but the phone is pretty delicate. I have dropped it a few times. I have nagged the circular thing near the camera (the thing that rotates while opening/closing flip) I will probably be getting a Nokia next time.

I got Z800i mainly for the looks, but found that it had great functions. 2 major problems with the phone. Keypad and internal antenna. Some keypads don't respond unless pushed in very firmly. This gets very annoying when complete phone numbers have to be typed in over and over. After 4 months of use, reception gets lost when flip is closed, probably resulting from defective internal antenna. I am in the U.S. where 3G network is not available yet. I will be sending this to SE, and use my old T39m which I used for 4 years, and the keypads still work better than the Z800. I am considering getting the W810i. Only downside on the W800i is that it doesn't have the cover. I found out that these Z800i problems are very common for this model. For those who had the antenna problem repaired, did the problem come back? What about for the keypad problems?

This phone kinda sucks . If i talk more than 20min on video call the battery gets hot , discharges . You can't even zoom the pictures in gallery . The headset is bad because when i turn the player on mode bass the headphones create an anoying noise . By time the clamshell efect gets worse an worse .The camera really suck . The quality is bad even if it's 1.3mp . I'm disappointed by this phone . Gonna buy the new N73 ... hope it's going to be better than Z800

This is the worst phone to run in 3G mode. 2G ok. Sonyericsson just learn how to make 3G phone and created this model. I got mine one to replace and repair 6 time still not good. If you want it for 2G ok but not 3G. The phone have good functions and easy to use.

My Z800i has been at the service centre for a month now. They said the mainboard needs to be replaced and they don't have the parts yet. For a phone with a 12 month warranty, that is totally unacceptable. I suspect they have difficulty finding the parts since it is an old phone (more than 12 months since its launch). I guess I should ask SE to give me another phone like the W800i to replace this faulty Z800i.

Robert, You are correct. The U.S. does not support the 3G network and only available in certain areas where the new 3G network is being tested. I paid $400 for this Z800i since I had to buy it from overseas, but some of these newer super thin phones from Samsung and LG look pretty good and moderately priced at below $100 with 1 year contract with local providers. Their screens are TV-quality. Of course these phones are not the UMTS or 3G, and they don't offer the memory stick, etc. Yet, they look pretty good for the money, and people flip out if I tell them I paid over $400 for a bulky & heavy Z800i. Well, I still like the phone since it is rare here. You're in Romania? Did you move over there from U.S.? Your English is more than perfect. Thanks for your response and your suggestion. I will refer to my warranty guide for a nearest SE repair center. John

I'm having the same issue.. reception drops to zero when i close the flip and get Emergncy Calls Only or No Network at times. It's good that this is a known issue. Warranty expires in 2 weeks gota run to the service center.

Hi JB, You said "this 3G phone feature which is capable of video calling is not available in the U.S.". What do you mean by that? You have a 3G phone that's unable of performing video calling? That's impossible, all 3G devices are ment to be able of such thing, it is in fact the reason for developing a 3G network, instead of working only on the old GSM that does only voice transmission. More likely your operator doesn't have a 3G support to allow you to use all the features of your phone. About your question with the flipping sound, all clamshell phones from Sony Ericsson have the same "breaking-like" sound when you fully open or close the flip. My business partner had the Z600 model from SE and his flip also made that special sound. In particular, I confess that i like it, rather than the "boom" noise of plastic hitting plastic, as Motorola clamshell phones have. Any more questions? Mail me at [email protected] Good luck! Quite simply, I love my phone...so does everyone else, especially my children, all adults and young adults. My 19 year-old son has taken to looking at Sony Ericsson and as his opinion is what counts, he has declared that the W800 would be a good choice too.

Hello guys, I am trying to answer your questions one at a time. Yes, I got my phone back, my old one, it was still under warranty, the SE repairing center staff told me it was the coax-cable that were interrupted when the flip was closed. Anyway, they changed the wires and now the phone is as good as new. My Z800i has the titanium silver colour and it has the QuickShare logo on the front. About the battery issue, I have indeed a Memory Stick of 1 GB myself, but the battery life doesn't change because of that. It got really short, that's true, in the beginning the battery hold me about 5 days, and now barely 2, but I suspect that happened because of my bad habit of listening mp3's all day long and engage into conversations that summarize maybe 2 hours per day. Regarding the networks, the 3G network is usually less stronger than the classical GSM, so if you want to have better battery life you should enable the option "GSM only" in the networks section of the settings menu. But that keeps you off the possibility of making and receiving video calls and maybe accesing video streams and other cool stuff your operator has offered you through the internet or wap portal. And my opinion is that they worth the effort of charging the battery more often :P Concerning the reparation business in LA, believe me I have no idea, because I am from Romania, Europe. I suggest to look on the warranty note, they should have written there the authorized repairing centers in the area. If not, check the internet or so, but be careful not to leave your phone to them unless they are approved by SE, or else you will lose the warranty and they will bill you for the repairing. I think I know why your phone signal drops. Since this phone is 3G-ready, by default the network type is set to 3G and GSM. Try setting your network type to GSM only and please observe if it works. My brother has a Nokia N70 which has also the same problem but I tried disabling the 3G signal and now it works perfectly.

Hi, to Robert I had the same problem of the Signal Dropping down after I closed my Flip. My Phone was still under warranty. I sent it to SE Service Centre and they installed a new reception Kit or something. Now the reception probably drops but only one or 2 bars max. It got fixed. I think it happens if you drop your phone perhaps. I recently installed a Sony 1 GB MS Pro Duo and my battery life has reduced from 3 days to 1 day only. Has anyone else faced the same problem? Hello JB, Yes, I had exactly the same issue with my z800i just like you. When the flip was closed, the signal started to drop, line by line, until the message NO NETWORK appeared. When I opened the flip, the signal rised in a blink of an eye, showing the full reception. I sent my phone back to the producer's service center, and now I'm waiting for it to come. I am anxious to see it work at the full capacity again. I heard the other day from a friend of mine who's working in a cell repairing shop that there are many people experiencing the same problem as we. All the best, Robert

Ive had this phone for over 5 months now i find it very reliable and think the battery life on it is fantastic.....The only downside to the phone is that you cant change your txt message allerts tones. I have not had any probs with calls cutting out or the recpetion, i give it 9 out of 10!!!!

I finally gave up on my Z800i.After master reset, the I still get dropped calls. It happens more often when the signal from a 3G network is not present and the phone automatically switches to the regular 2G band. Despite having full bar on my other Nokia phone, the Z800i couldn't find a 2G network. For a 6 month old phone, I am very disappointed. I think Sony should just stick to making PlayStations and nothing else.

Great phone but if your not able to call out due to no signal then send it in for repairs. A common problem is that its main chip can be faulty easily making the phone have no reception a lot of the times, if you get it checked before your warranty expires sony will replace the phone for free

I've got the Z800i for about 6 months now. Worked great in the early days. Just the other day, had problems with dropped calls, static on the other side despite having full signal bars. Checked with telco and nothing wrong with their network. I tried to do a master reset and erased everything from the phone. Now it seems OK, but a real pain in the ass to sync my phone book and calendar again.

Reception Issue: I've had this Z800i for 6 months now. Design and function is great, but started running into a problem with reception. I noticed my phone was not flashing, and it said "No Network." It was in an area where there is fairly good reception. When I opened the flip, the light flashing came back, and the network indicator had 4 bars. re: sylvester Yes, just buy the headphone adapter off ebay, they are very cheap and some have bulit-in mic. Music quality is a lot better and you can even enjoy full mega bass if you have good earphone. (I am using Sony EX71 and the music with mega bass just amazing!) Z800 also supports up to 2GBs memory stick pro duo even in specs said only 1GB.

Well, it's bigger than V800 and it does play MP3's. The v800 has restrictions about copyright, bla bla, and you have to convert mp3's in another format so you can play them.

I had Nokia 6630 and now changed to flashed 802SE = z800i. The functions of both phones are similar but I can't really compare them because they are totally different, smartphone vs. Normal phone. However, when it comes to picture taking, it seems like Nokia 6630 is way better than 802SE/Z800 even though they both have CMOS camera with 1.3MP. Overall, 802SE is a great phone. I have tested 2gbs memory stick pro duo on my 802SE/Z800, it works perfectly and I now have a new Walkman Phone replace my ipod.

Hi guys, i got this phone recently, been using it for about a month or so, and so far i would give it a thumbs up.It originally comes with a standard 64MB card, which didn't really do it for me. To Stavros1984,I wanted to upgrade it to 2GB Pro Duo, but was told by the phone shop people that that wasn't advisable.Something about the phone freezing up on occassion when used with a 2GB card.I didn't wanna chance it, so i went with a 1GB Pro Duo card, which works like a charm for me.I've got my phone loaded with mp3's and video (3gp) and it's a fun distraction when things get boring at work. Downside to the phone would be; 1)No zoom function when viewing pics taken 2)You can't use mp3's for sms alert tone (annoying!) 3)Keypad is a lil too embedded for me while sms'ing,but works ok with T9 on. 4)Even tho the camera looks cool,the pic and video quality is so-so.Pics taken at nite(even with flash on) with nite-mode still look dark. 5)Like amir said below, doesnt play .rm or .avi files, just 3gp.You can convert most files to 3gp, i do it on my computer.file size is quite small. 6)battery life lasts for just about 2 days if you play lotsa videos/mp3's.Playing mp3's on the phone's speaker drains faster than playing with the headphones.I don't like the headphones,sound quality/loudness isnt great. Overall though,all minor stuff.Love the phone,and being an SE,you can get quite a lot of Java apps (games,etc) for it.Themes are widely downloadable as well. Just my 2 cents,thanks! Dhayan

Actually, you can download MP3' s to memorie card while it's in the phone. Just use the mini-USB. Copy and paste in memorie card. That's how I do it with my z800. Check under "My Comp" and open "removable storage/drive" you can create folders and playlist as well.

z800 has the best features available for any phone in Canada right now. The only problem is that all downloaded games can only be downloaded into the phone's memory and not the memory card. Transfer mp3 files from computer to directly memory card before insert into phone.

hmmm the phones structure is too fragile i broke the big round thing on the top beside the camera and it sucks not to mention that its sounds quality isn't competitive enough to fight against that of a nokia ex. is the 6630, the 6630 is louder even though it doesn't have equalizer unlike that of the z800 the keypads are also a problem sometimes since its too small for someone who has big hands yap the phone is nice but it has too many flaws that aren't even tolerable the body can be scratched so easily and its casings are no where to be found except in the inet! im not a sony ericsson hater nor a nokia fanatic but sony did very poor this time

Battery life of the SE z800 is pretty crappy, about 30hours, doesnt matter what features you use. My father has one also but he claims he gets 3 days and thats with bluetooth on all the time. Ensure you contact SE for the correct charging procedure on the phones first charge. I just upgraded to the nokia 6280, it lasts 50 hours minimum. When playing video files sometimes you get no picture but sound, there is no way to stop the phone playing as it 'locks up'. Once the clip finished the phones works normally, the solution if you cant wait for the clip to finish; take the battery out and restart the phone.

I have the Vodafone version of the z800 (800SE). Loving it! May be kinda bulky, but great resolution, fast, can muti-task, 2GB memorie! Streaming videos... no pauses! Listening to MP3's and watching music Videos. It's great!

The vX3 takes terrible quality photos, i think it has a cheap camera, but motorola is pretty honest in there commercials, you can see that cheap tiny phone camera like picture quality even in there advertisements, i have the v3x and i compared it to sony ericson phones, i can tell you that these pictures i took have no chance in my photo library of picts i took with my Canon ixus 7mpx camera. if you want good camera quality,, nokia is the best, but they make the ugliest phone sin the world hands down, only buisines people love nokia for there fame for long battery life, but by now you think they would improve there interface and rid of that ugly blackberry looking software and get close to providing people with convinience, but there you go, nokia means buiseness only.

i got this phone for free and now i wish i had kept my broken one!! the keypad stops working and u cant open it up to clean wit because you need a special key. it freezes.. which is a pain.. and its waaaay to chunky... screen is good quality though... but that doesnt make up for its size.

Im not sure how many ppl you can store in the phone book, probably either 500 or 1000. each of those has up to 11 fields you can add though, so yes, multiple numbers for one entry. the phone is awesome, i love it and defiantely recommend it!!! i would only change it so that i could have a custom message tone... im only limited to the 6 sony ericsson give me... other than that it scores very very highly for me, no problems at all

I am very happy with this phone - main usage is a cross-over between business and entertainment. Use it for a mix of game play, podcasts, and 3g content (news and streaming). The ability to load and run j2me apps is a big bonus. Synchs well with Outlook (calendar, contacts, to do). Still finding more and more features as I use it. Have been using the camera - works fine for a 1.3Mpixel and never intended it to be my primary camera. Chose this over a microsoft wm 2005 enabled phone - providing all the functions I need/want at half the price of an O2 Xda.

To Steve J (MP3 as ring tone) I have no problem using MP3 files ripped by myself as ring tones. Connect the Z800i to your computer, open My Phones and click your way to Sony Ericsson Z800i\Phone memory\ Phone memory\Sound\ringtones (my translation from Swedish, may not be 100% correct) and copy the MP3 file to this directory. Then in the Z800i settings dialogue select the MP3 file as ring tone. �PF

i agree, the camera isnt bad at all as far as the picture quality is concerned, the volume for the video playback might be what you were reffering to, its really low, so when u video record and talk you have to be a little loud, the phone is big, like the size of my dish remote and home telephone, but it doesnt bother me, it still looks great, looking to buy the memory card so i can store more songs soon..

its weird that u cant use normal mp3s as tones. z800i is supposed to be the fully unlocked retail unit, unless yours is the v800 probably u can try flash ur phone's firmware to the latest one.

Hi guys.I'm considering to buy this phone,but I'm only like 60% sure. Main deterrent is the price..So anybody with experience using this phone, can you help me find another 40% confidence?I've gone numerous reviews of this phone,and some points that caught my attention is the apparent delay of the internal screen when you flip the phone open, hard keypad,and photo quality. Nice phone to use, bluetooth works well. Only disapointment is that whilst you can use MP3s as ringtones, that is ONLY if they are "DRM" tones - i.e. downloaded from a suitable site - you cannot make yr own from your cd (which I could on my Sharp GX30i). If anyone knows how to get round this, please tell me.

The memory card you can see like removeable disc in windows explorer. If you wont transfer some files in internal memory, you will need program from Z800 CD. (My Z800)

Christina i think you`re wrong.. dont think u can access the internal memory via usb cable.. that what u see is the memory card.. try to copy 2 mp3 files on it.. if those are 10mb together shouldNT fit the internal 5mb memory :D

sea_maestro yes.. the internal memory is like.. 5.5/6mb i have now 5060KB free as shown by the phone status.. but some ringtones that came with the phone are probably in the internal memory. and yes again. the phone comes with a duo pro 64mb card. but the card acts like the internal memory. u can use ringtones/themes/wallpapers stored on the card without any problems. Christina is u plug the phone to a computer with the supplyed usb cable a window will pop=up asking you what to do.. click browse folder. what you will see is the memory card

I've just got this phone today and I love it! The camera's a bit of a disappointment, though; in bright light the quality is excellent but in dim or normal light it isn't that clear. Recordings are really clear but the disadvantage is that there is no keypad lock. Because of this the side button for the camera might be accidentally activated and this obviously uses up a lot of battery. However once I got it I only had to charge it for less than two hours instead of the usual eight for any other phone. I have two words: It. Rocks.

The phone has an internal memory of 6 Mb,so you cannot record MP3 or pics on it.All this stuff go to Memory Stick Duo Pro automatically(64 MB) and you will have an alert when it is full.You will have to clear than the Memory stick.If you buy an additional Memory stick of 2 Gb you will have a regular MP3 player,better than W800

Sorry,if you refer to SMS alert tone you are right.You cannot set an MP3 as an alert tone for SMS,but you have enough options(click,no sound and 6 ringtones)on the phone.When your mistress sends you an SMS in the middle of the night I don't suppose you and your wife want to hear "I'm a material girl".Eventually your wife will forgive your infidelity but not money waste even if it is NWK(No Wife Knowledge).

Of course you can set any MP3 as a ring tone First download from your PC one or several MP3(see further down this page how).Open General Menu/Settings/Select/right cursor to Sounds and Alerts.It opens with Ring Volume(set it from 1 to 8)/down cursor to Ringtone/Select/Ringtones/Open/Select an MP 3 and you are set! This is for BEE. Do not format the Memory Stick Duo Pro from your computer with Z800 connected to it.If you want to delete pictures from your Memory Stick,just do it from your phone,not from PC,by selecting the picture to be deleted and press Cancel(C) button.You cannot delete pictures set as default by Sony Ericsson. Good pictures you can obtain with Z800 only outdoors ,on a sunny day and do not shake hands while you're making the picture.Indoors pictures are good only to see who is calling if you set your phone to this option.Make sure when you do the picture for a photo call identity, to see his face ,not while he is under the desk staring at your mini skirt.

this is one of the better phones on the market today. although its been out for a while it still remains ahead of most of its rivals. the only problem with this phone i would have to say is the reception. sony ericsson had quite alot of problems in australia with this phones reception, & in turn was forced to replace over 1000 handsets. other then that slight glitch , this is a very good phone

I repeat what I've said earlier.The MP3 is great but,the Memory Stick Duo Pro that comes with the phone has only 64 Mb for approx.10 tunes.You could buy an extra Memory stick of 128,256,512,1 Gb or even 2 Gb and you could have up to 4-500 tunes on your phone.The only disadvantage I see, is that you can find the Memory Stick into the shop window, but they keep an eye on them and they won't give it to you, unless you dig deep into your pocket for 50 up to 150 USD. As an MP3 player,with your headset on and a manual or preset equaliser built in ,you could listen 3-4 hours of your selected music as with any MP3 Sony walkman

Yeah I'm from Singapore... I can't answer the battery question bcos I haven't gotten the phone yet! Hahax. I got all the info from various reliable websites. In the mobile phone display windows I only see Titanium Silver but I'm sure if I go into the store and ask there should be Linear Silver. I'm getting the phone on the 24th of November... Can't wait.

1.Every time the phone rang I had an automatic reject call.I went to Vodafone and Sony Ericsson service and it worked fine.Comning back home I had the same problem.I have a leather magnet lock holder.It took me hours to figure out that the magnet influenced the functionality of this phone.Mind you that! 2.In order to upload MP3 from you PC to your phone via USB cable:install the PC soft that came with the phone(CD),insert the cable both in your USB port on your PC and the phone,go to Start Menu/My Computer/double click on Removable Disk(E:)/double click on MSSEMC/2 clicks on Media Files/2 clicks on Audio/2 clicks on Ringtones.Leave this window open and open a new one from Start Menu/My Music. Drag and drop from My Music to Ringtones any MP3 that you like.The standard Memory stick is 64 Mb(about 10 songs)but you can buy 128,256,512,1 Gb,2 Gb Memory Stick Duo(from 30 up to 150 USD) and use it as an Walkman for up to some 4-500 songs. Remember that while you are connected the Memory stick your phone shows O Mb.Once you disconected it, it comes to normal and it will show the real free space on your Memory stick.Do not forget to synchronise your PC with the phone afterwards.The Synchronise function on your PC has a lot of options.Make sure you chose the right ones! I am not an expert,it took me hours to discover it,but if you do not want to spend money on Bluetooth,it is worth trying ! Maybe there is a much easier way to do it. Is there?

Mine is for Biz Use: It has a good feature set generally but there are some short falls and a disturbing trend for the battery to get very hot on certain calls. I returned it the first time but its happening again - quite disturbing at times it gets so hot. In contacts: It doesn't have large enough capacity in the info fields. I don't expect it to be a full blown organizer but you'd expect better than 2 lines of info. It also lacks ability to enter multiple email addresses. In Calender: It is so irritating not to be able to program 'repeat' calendar entries. Siemens S55 was much better with it's features in this area. Battery Life: Advertised at 10 hours talk time - I'd be thrilled to get that. Maybe thats in whisper mode with a dim backlight and everything on the verge of shutdown. You'll need to recharge at least once a day if you're going to use Bluetooth. It might be easier to put up with if you could buy an additional battery - but you can't in Australia ! (amazingly - just can't buy one). Navigation 'Dial'- Great features and v. convenient - like the way this is set up with short cuts esp. for B/tooth 'on/off'and sshort cut to Calender. Screen: Exceptional Construction: Excellent construction. V. robust & good solid feel to it. Speaker hands free works well in car if you've forgotten you earpiece. Camera: Good - need an earbud handy to clean lens though. Night mode setting most welcome. Like the camera rotating feature. Not sure about video - haven't had too much use for it. B/tooth & IR: Thanks for both. Well done. Keypad; Nicely lit. Not bad keypads but would probably prefer they were slightly raised for faster texting. LED Torch surrounding Camera: Absolute winner and most welcome. Radio Feature v. Good. Overall I really like my Z800i. If Sony Ericcson could do something about the negatives I'd be a long term loyal customer. BBut if they don't/can't - I'll be comparing again.

The vendor where I got my phone is completely out of stock. I originally wanted to get the Linear Silver, since it looks more masculine than the Titanium Silver, but no vendors in the U.s. had it in stock. As for the battery, even though the manufacturer states that the battery is a lithium ion, mine says lithium polymer, and it last about 2 1/2 days on a normal usage. By the way, are you in Singapore? I know someone in Singapore, maybe I could ask her to buy one for me in Linear Silver. I am in Los Angeles, CA.

On a normal use in the U.S. (no video call feature available in the U.S.), I only get 2 days maximum, and I only got this phone last week so the battery is new. According to the manufacturer, standyby time should be about 10 days. What kind of batteries do you guys have? Lithium Ion? or Lithium Polymer?

Nobody talks about Reception on this phone. I am with T Mobil and in certain areas the reception is very week on my Sony-Ericsson 610, so I need a real sensitive phone for a better reception. Does anyone know if there is any improvement on Z800? Is anyone aware of difference, quality or rating of the reception of this phone?

Dear Perry, U better use a card reader to transfer the MP3 data from your computer to your phone, coz the internal memory of Z800 only 6 MB so it'll be better to place all data to your memory stick except java game and aplications. It's very easy to take out the memory stick from its place, just use your forefinger and u dont have to open the battery (only the back cover) coz it hotswap, U can replace the memory stick without turning off your Z800 (make sure u do it when your phone on standby mode, not when U accessing the menu)

Its a great hightech phone compare to N6680 which front camera only with VGA, Z800 full 1,3 MP (1280 x 1024 not 1280 x 960) front and rear coz it could rotate. If U play the MP3 player it sound even great than S700i (with original stereo handsfree) and easy to operate, if u close the flip u still can play and choose from the playlist just using volume and flash (for pause) button. Its feels like holding a walkman phone, just expand the external memory to 516 MB (pro duo) and u will have the feel of walkman 3G phone (W800 was not a 3G phone).

MobileNoob, the V802 and the Z800i are exactly the same model save for the software and aesthetics. the V800 series is a Vodafone 3G exclusive phone so it's got the Vodafone badging and their menu theme plus software to be used on their 3G network. AFAIK there isn't anything technologically different between the Z800 and the V800. so the specs should be exactly the same.

sorry i mean nickeynicknick... and darin i think the Z800 camera is of a CCD type and the S700 is of a CMOS type. in terms of quality i think they're pretty similar. unfortunately i don't own the S700i so i cannot do a direct comparison. but if you go here : that page has reviews for both phones so you can compare the quality of the pictures.

Luke, the phone that they use in Advent Children isn't the Sony Ericsson Z800. it's the Panasonic P900iV FOMA from NTT DoCoMo. completely different phone. but on the plus side this fone isn't too bad. had it for about 6 months now it's had a good run.

No it doesnt have fm radio, it works as an mp3 player aswell however doenst hold anywhere near the same amount as the new w800.

This phone is great overall except for a few things. The Camera is very weak in low light conditions, the Exterior buttons cannot be locked; meaning the camera and flashlight can be turned on at anytime in a pocket or handbag. The phone is also top heavy meaning the half where people will hold the phone is actully lighter than the half with the two screens and speakerphone. This is firstly uncomfortable when using and talking but mostly when placed flat on a table because it has a tendancy to fall over backwards..... This aside a great phone for a reasonable price but people in australia should not buy this ,yet, because the price is simmilar to the K750i and for a little more the w800i

i have this phone for a couple of months. yes u can send mp3's from ur computer to your phone via bluetooth. you can also send pictures in jpeg format or gif from ur pc to your phone via bluetooth also. the phone can record videos as long as it has free memory.

I would go for this phone cuz the N90 is really expensive... Why don't you read the opinions? I already have and most of them aren't really satisfying. In GSMarena's reviews they indicate that though N90 has 2MP, the colour qualities aren't that good. It's also heavier than this phone, and bulky. Go SE Z800i! ^^

hi, i've had z800 with me for a week now and just wanted to share my view: I bought it because it's a 3G phone, and thought it would be nice if i can use it in Japan and Seoul next time i'm there (without having to change to iMode ones). Mine came with a 64MB memory stick, and like the fact that i can design my own themes (like all other SE mobiles). The batt can last for 2-3 days for me--a fair amt of talking but definitely a lot of picture taking (personally, i felt that the images came out more accurately than Nokia N90) and messaging.. Sms includes the usual T9 (for English). The only pity is that I can't add my own alert tones and z800 only provides 5. However, we can use mp3 for ringtones and they sound great! Overall i'm happy with this phone.

JB(John): I bought my v800(the same phone as z800)3 months ago.I could had bought k750 which was cheaper and with a 2MP cam.BUT... I thing the 3G is very important.3G is not only the streaming TV or the video call(which are a very pleasant experience),it is also a new world of services,and who knows what the networks will cook up in near future and what you will be able to do with this highspeed network(384Kbps/sec).And v800/z800 is hardware enable to support all these new services. And this is more important than the 2MP camera of k750. V800 has also a good camera and with good lighting conditions the quality is high. Also, the larger screen of v800/z800 is better than the K750 screen. I like the design of K750 but V800 is more stylist to my mind.

Ownership Experience Not bad but decision is still in reserve on account of a few facts that no rep of Sony has been able to sort out . It appears that one can only store 500 contacts on this phone !!!! ITS ABSURD ! I have 1200 contacts - more than half are still stuck on my mac and i cannot bring them on the phone. Sony's idiot reps here have no answer - i talk about contacts they talk about photographs being stored on the memory card . At this point (one month down) I am still trying to figure out a way to use the Memory card to expand Contacts storeage and believe it or not there appears to be NO WAY TO DO THIS !!! Second : you cannot read an email or talk to someone through the speaker phone if the cam shell is closed - this appears rather daft to me because the speaker is very good quality. If there had been some way one could press a button and answer with the cam closed - ti would have been pretty cool . Finally no one has been able to get the GPRS to work yet. Aside from this it has neat features like getting the phone to support a computer like the phone is a remote !! very nice

i bought the fone for 401 USD in the US. some stores sell it for 358USD. i dont know if this is available in the philippines. if you got credit card try to look for it at Starlin or WElectronics. I bought mine from Communication Telecom Int'l. you can try also PLEMIX but they only accept payment thru paypal. (a nice fone though kasi po 3G na sya kahit di pa available sa PH.)

Hi! to all I have this Sony Ericsson Z800i for at least 3 days and I can't believe up to now that I found the ideal cellphone I am looking for. I have been kept changing cellphone for at least 3 to 6 months in a last couple of years but this cellphone really has the features that I want. especially I can bloke people who kept annoying me just activate the manage calls and it will limit the incoming calls up to 10 persons you only want to receive calls from. Eva.It's depend on the net work provider to recieve/send VDO call also the phone must have VDO as well. Z800 have 2 games with it but you can down load some more from sonyericsson for free, even ringtones,pic, theme but beware sonyericsson don't charge you but your net work provider will charge you for net access! Since the phone have Bluetooth and infrared build in, you can download from your friends if they have phone with Bluetooth or infrared.It work fine with other sonyericsson and it free! nokia work too but theme won't work.Good Luck!

V800 has more ringtones, I tried it out before... It IS a hard choice between them, though. Anyway the V800 isn't available where I live, so it makes life easier! Eva. No, you're not stupit...you just didn't know that's all. 3G phone is when you can uses VOICE CALL, MESSAGE and VDO CALL. You see, most net works can provide only 2G mean- VOICE CALL and SMS only. Is this info help?

Plus2minus2-this phone doesn't allow mp3 as alert tone for message. Gary- This phone can vdo record any lenght you want according to your cpacity of your Memory stick. Simone-back up onto pc or load from pc is as easy as click COPY and PAST with your MOUSE! Make sure you have installed the softwares first then stick your USB Cable with the phone to your PC. To make it more fun go to the computer store and buy a Bluetooth at around $25 to$30 for 20metres signal sending( but you won't be needing that far!) Once you hooked up the Bluetooth and set up the PASSKEY on your PC and your on your phone you don't have to hook up USB anymore just browe to your favourit songs or pictures then right click on your mouse and look for send to Bluetooth device and you on your way ! GOOD LUCK!

I can feel it vibrate in my bag...my bag is over my shoulder right next to me, I can feel it, just dont hear it sometimes...anyways, I have a problem, I bought the phone and love it, but am having trouble saving things to my memory stick from my computer...sometimes it saves this and other times it doesnt, but everytime it will tell me that the files are too big so I am unsuccessful...I am easily frustrated and am ready to throw the computer out the window...what can I do?

Im soo happy i cant wait for it to arrive.From what i have read the size n weight are awsome for a phone with so many features on it. Sorry I forgot to mention two things in my privious post. 3G features on this phone are useless in the US since UMTS standard is not supported here. Cingular uses EDGE standard. Cingular also uses 850 mgz band in some areas which this phone does not support.

This phone can be used with any GSM carrier, including T-Mobile & Cingular in the US. The major difference for me between the V800 & Z800 was the external picture caller ID on Z800. V800 only display the name/number. I bought a V800 and flashed the Z800 software and I love it.

to simone i think it is possible to unlock it by re installing the software. Also i saw that the z1010 was on sale last year for $195and only a $35 unlocking fee!!!! I'm sure if you bought it for $600 outright they would let you have a low unlocking price. Try haggling the people at three beacause when i bought mine they gave me a free car charger and leather case.

Im pretty sure that if Australia has 3G, then America would have 3G...Actually I know they have 3G networks over there, but it may also depend on which network you will be using the phone on.

Hi I'm frm Malaysia. I just bought my Z800i. Its absolute a great phone and has quite a lot of intresting feature that comes in it. But it just one draw back which is, it has problem of synconizing with any pc even the syncronize software is updated. I have try to syncronize by using the USB data cable which comes together with the box, IrDA and also bluetooth but still does not communicate or syncronize with my pc or any other pc. I'm not the only user in my country having this problem but all the Z800i owners in my country is having the same problem as I do. I don't know how about our user's in other country, Are there anyone facing the same problem? I have raise this problem to the Sonyericsson Support center via e-mail but they just have not come back to me with solution for this problem. The V800 is just for Vodafone, but Vodafone is now letting SE release the phone for everyone to buy and sell, if that makes sense...before it was only for vodafone users...but I think they are only letting the Z800 be sold for 6 months....I hope thats not true though, cause I don't know when I will be able to get my hands on one.

KD. Did you try and install the softwares first? You should do it first. Once you hooked up to the PC your PC will take over your phone untill you disconnected. Mp3 file should be 128kbps or smaller. You can simply COPY and PASTE straight into the memory card. To be more simpler just go and buy one USB Bluetooth then you can just click and send after you had set up.

Troubleshooting help needed, please! I've been trying to download music from my laptop to my phone, but it doesn't seem to recognise that i have a Memory Stick. All files over the phone storage limit (5MB) are being aborted. I worked out that when i do NOT have my USB connected between my Z800 and laptop, a memory check on the phone recognises the Memory Stick capacity, with 61MB free. When the USB is plugged in, however, the Memory Stick option is greyed out or reads as 0 Bytes. Any help/suggestions appreciated!!!! Cheers, K

Well, I said once and now I said again. I used to read about this phone since b4 it available to buy and I was eagered to have as my own...now I got it and it's crab! it's made in China batery doesnt last as long! and interferring with my radio in the car which I dont normaly had! also have effecting with magnetic too. If you place a magnetic to the phone it'll turn off and on. I knew this cuz my case cover botton made from magnetic so the case can close properly.I'd wrote alot of email to sonyericsson to complain but they were never replyed back to me. Also the camera claimed 1.3megapixel is all lia! picture is so poor compair to s700i which I bought for my sis is way better screen is way smoother and more definition. S700i was made in Japan and also battery and way last longer than Z800i. Now I wait till I finish off the contract with 3G I'll going put the phone in da rubbish bin!. People dont trust the salemen crab! the phone not as good as they're claimed it to be. Dont trust me go and signe in the contract and you'll see

Ok, lets talk about the facts. This phone is a great model, for all of you who d'nt knw the V800 which basically the same class the Z800 falls under was rated the best 3G phone for 2005 at the GSM awards. It has great features and memory space up to 1G. The picture quality is good, however it does not live up to expectations in dim lighting. The inclusion of 3GP for video does bring the video quality down, however with MP4 in definately takes it back up. You can download 100's of mp3 songs depending on your memory card size and with the Z800 you can set mp3 as ringtones or even a tone for your alarm clock.. I have already downloaded music clips and am currently d/l the movie "Hitch". And looking at the 3G service, no phone can match. It may be bulky in size but then again most 3G phones are couz of the large display screen they need for video conferencing. Cing there is so much memory space provided, d/l themes,wallpaper are endless and applications are in abundance i have already d/l msn messenger, webviewer (html browser) and many java games. Overall the phone is awesome, however i do believe the camera is quite poor and could most definatelty be improved. But i would definately recommend this phone for the evolving mobile user.

Jonathan, you don't know what you are talking about. Either that or you have no taste. The phone is sleek and hot; everything you're not =p I have used it and I think its great. 3G phones don't need 2 cameras. Whoever said they had to have 2 cameras!? You can rotate the screen towards you for video telephony; pretty inique. Called a "floating eye" i beleive. Do you even know what 3G phones are for? I guess not. Everything here is intuitive. Really good phone. Go for it~

To Gnatman: I know a few people on 3 in Aust. and they also know people on 3, they all say its crap as! Wait till Telsta and Vodafone bring it out at the end of the year...Telstra is a bigger company and have more coverage all over Australia; they are hoping to make 3G better as 3 just cant do it. 3 have some really good deals out at the moment, but I bet that the other companies will bring out good deals when this phone comes out with them as well. Thats what I am waiting for, for vodafone to bring out 3G...but trust me, dont go 3.

To the dude who posted the first part about going on 3 in aus: I JUST went onto 3 a few days ago, got the z800 on a $49 cap, and i'm paying 15 bucks a month on top for the phone (its on special instead of $30/month). It's an awesome phone, heaps of features, great camera, easy to use. I'd say the best phone i've had. The guys at 3 said it was the best and i was willing to pay more money for a different phone but they said to go with the z800. I did and i'm loving it!

I am planning on the $69/month cap which gives $400 worth of calls + extra $180 to other 3-mobiles. 1) If I go over the $180 worth to 3-mobiles and don't realise it then call someone who is on 3 and don't realise this, does the call then go onto my "general" $400 free quota or does it start charging excess on top of my $69/month? I have heard conflicting info from a 3-store rep and a rep over the phone. 2) Am I able to set up external email accounts (home/work, etc) and receive them on the phone in addition to my [email protected] email? 3) Can I use the speaker phone while the phone is closed or does it have to stay open? This seemed like a great phone to me when i purchased it but it is missing good mpeg4 playback and a good speakerphone. Even the nokia Ngage has that sort of stuff and it was priced at AUD$120 late 2003 now it's 2005. This phone uses up a lot of battery in each application and has poor signal strength, really making it a cordless phone which needs to be docked after every phone. I have beean saving up for this phone for a while and now i regret it. Please don't make the same mistake i did. Jason

I have this phone on 3 in Australia. It is a great phone, i am very happy. a couple of little things annoy me, like when recieving e-mail it doesn't tell u how big or fast the transfer is, but does when sending. just small things. the battery life is ok, but is not 10 hours like claimed on the site. more like 2-3 hours talktime. heavy users would have to charge everyday, or else they will fall short battery life next day.anyone considering chanding in Australia, 3 has been really good, coverage and price are great.

The reason it doesnt have anxHTML/HTML browser is ���. There is no phone at the moment in circulation that offers both a HTML browser at UMTS speeds. Someone came up with a crack for the old Motorola one on 3, but it got stopped when trying to log onto the network. The possibilities on browsing any webpage at UMTS speeds are endless. There needs to be some way for the Network/service operators to earn �� from this. As far as i am aware, T-Mobile are to launch the MDA Compact, or some derivative of it which will run on UMTS. Funny, seen as their UMTS network has not yet been released to the world yet!!!

Hey all, i think this phone is great however there is one major downfall. The phone only supports WAP and HTTP, but does not support a xhtml browser, which i believe permits you from visting particular websites. This suxs to know that this lower end nokia phones can surf particular websites where our 3G Handset can not support. So my question can anyone help me in finding a site to download a xHTML browser for this handset or even a site which we can download browser. I would be most appericative if anyone oculd please help me! Does anyone else face these limitations when viewing websites????

hi simone, the dude from 3 is crap, you can use a 2G simcard. I am currently using the phone in fiji Islands on a 2G network connected to Vodafone Fiji. I belive only if the phone was bought in Japan then you would have trouble using it, due to the fact that they operate with USIM sim cards, which are basically an upgraded sim card. Hope this helps.

Well first of all The battery lasted with me 3 full days including the mp3 usage and normal phone usage and bluetooth also, cause i transfer files a lot.. So three Days are excellent for a 3g phone.. The reception is weak, only when you look at it sometimes, But, and again BBUTTTT when you use it you dont feel the reception is weak.. It�s Everything i wished for, except the 3 logo on it which i hate....

Did anyone noticed that this phone have weaker reception, and battery life span including talk time are not that long as their website claimed? Also the quality of the phone is way out as I expected too. I was eagered to have this phone for so long but when I got my hand onto it,I was very disapointed! cuz I used to have LG U8138 and 8180 the phone is everything to detail quality, solid built it just dont have Blue Tooth. DAMN ! but I am a bit disappointed with the screen, its not bright enough as compared to my previous phones Nokia 3230 and Nokia 6600. I bought the Z800i here in Denmark from the house of 3, it comes with the 3 label on it, not the QuickShare, plus, it comes with 3 customization in it, not the true Z800i software, and the button in the middle is changed to the 3 star, the telefon rocks, but the 3 software sucks!!! no difference in buying the z800i or the V800, only it has a 4 x Zoom, and caller ID, but the two are the same, one with Voda Fone customization, and another with 3 cus.........

hey guys i have a hard time in deciding which phone is better: SE s700 or z800? the se s 700 has the complete feature but in the mp3 mode have no mega bass mode just only bass boot mode and i don't like the design because is not flip(i like flip phone) and the z800 is flip but with a worse camera and no radio but the mp3 have the mega bass mode. so guys can you please help me to decide which phone is better? and why? please reply cos i realy need to buy a phone!!! thank you very much!!!!!!!!

aussie dudes!!!!! i got this phone yesterday and havent had the best of look through everything but from what i've seen so far it's pretty cool. it has a big email sending capacity (sending multiple attach.) the camera is very clear and the screen is really nice to look at. the functions are pretty easy to use and theres no lag when you hit buttons fast. the sound is not overally loud and the ringtones that come with it are pretty crap but downloaded ones work fine. dont knoe exactly why the screen on the front is so small but at the same time it does what it needs to. the keypad lights up well in the dark. fast downloading. videos are clear and not very pixelated at all. cartoon video downloads are liking watching at tv. the keys are flush with the surface and take a little getting use to. overall its a cool phone. worth the money i think especially if you can get it at the 50% off deal.

got this model yesterday for $890 Singapore dollars. traded in my Z1010. the Z800i is a good mobile with fast data transfer speed and solid ring tones. by far the best 3G available in the market. slight internal software improvement with additional features here and there. expandable memory to 1G, which is ok usage for me.

Great Phone ! Just got my yesterday at this shop in United Sq for $888 w/o line. First thing u will notice is that it is light for its size. Tried most of the funtions except video call. You have to upgrade ur sim to a 3G one though, cost S$31+ at M1, complusory if u are upgrading or buying from them. Work great. However, the clicking sound when opening and closing the phone might get some worried. Drop me some info on where to get some free theme if u may.

To Adrian, So long as you un-lock SIM, you maybe able to use any of the SE phones from any countries and telcos regardless it's 3G or 2G. But to unlock SIM, you may need to ask something unauthorised way. After unlocked, of course warranty will lapse.

Thank you for your response. Would you be any chance know if the phone is compatible with 2G Sim cards in Singapore. Recently had a friend from Japan who came down to the Fiji Islands with the phone and once we inserted the 2G sim card the mobile could not make or receive calls. And i do believe i read that in the Manual it asked you to insert the USIM card. Or is it that only Vodafone Japan which operates with USIM card on there 3G Network. Sorry the reason why i'm so interested is that i'm wishing to purchase the same model phone in Singapore in 2 weeks time when i visit for holiday and then wish to use the mobile in Fiji

Great phone! It's perfect! But I can't for the life of me figure out how to keep listening to streaming music with the phone closed. I connect, choose the station I want to listen to via 3G on "Three" and then, when I close it, the connection breaks. (It's hard to keep the phone open in your pocket...) Any ideas?

To Adrian.. The phone works also with 2G sim cards, but ofcourse you can�t use anymore the video calling feature.. To the rest of you guys, After my 24 hours experience with the SE Z800i, It�s an amazing phone, with one mistake i didn�t like at all.. If you write a message more than two sentences, your fingures start giving you pain, it�s completely uncomfortable with it�s buttons when it comes to writing messages.. But the rest, Sony Ericsson Deserves an award on this stylish high technology with this phone.. Buy it.. But no one answered me where can i DOWNLOAD THEMES YOU GUYS!!!!!

no, it will not be available in Canada. Ever. There is no point for Rogers bringing in a UMTS/GSM phone when north america won't see 3G being used widely for a very very long time.

Hey i just bought the phone today for 100$, and it�s simlocked for 3 firm for 6 monthes, cause u must use their sim card for 6 monthes, and i pay every month 50$ and in return i get 150 minutes, and 3000 sms every month, so after six month the whole price that i payed for the phone and the use of the minutes and sms is 450$.. not bad BUT!!!!! I can�t find any site on the net where i can download themes for it, just wallpapers. HELP!!! Does anyone knows where can i download free themes for the Z800i...Thanks guys. If you wanna compare mobiles, why dont you use the compare option...its under the picture of the mobile. Just read peoples comments about this or the V800 and the comments people write about the other phone you are looking at. Also look at the ratings or each phone. But ultimatly, the best people to ask is the people at the phone shops...I dont know about around the world, but I know here in Australia, phone shop employees are pretty honest about if a phone is good and suitable for you.

Well the phone arrived today, thursday, not friday. And instead of Quick Share, this little area, they took it of, and replaced it with a 3 logo. But it�s still cool as a phone, i think it�s the best, and since this is the only Cell phone Firm in Denmark which will sell it, so i�m gonna have to buy it..

if a provider carries z800i of course there will be branding... it is so DOH lol in singapore... this phone will be sold in normal retailer besides the provider so there will be no logos confirmed... plus... singtel, the provider here in singapore never put in their logo to the phone... they just put a sticker on ^_^

Well guess what guys.. Here in Denmark, the phone is in stores on Friday 6th May, which is two days from now, and it's only coming to 3. 3 is a phone company like Vodafone, and it's located in UK, Denmark, Sweden. Italy. And it will carry the 3 logo, just like the vodafone logo. So it's not free from logos as we all expected. but it's cheap, around 90$ and 40$ per month for 6 months, then your free from them.. But it sucks with the logo!!!

oh by the way... the 14th may 2005 is the OFFICIAL SINGTEL release in singapore ^_^ so even if u ask official retailer they will give you somewhere around that date probably 2 days b4 that date ^_^ if u went to the SE sneak peek last weekend... u got a voucher from singtel (discount voucher for Z800i) and it states that Z800i will be available in May 14th 2005 that's must be official hehehe

I wonder why they dont tell us when they are gonna be released...is it just incase there is a problem and they have to postpone the release, and so the public cant complain if it doesnt come out on time? Hi Bear The differens are that the V800 only sales thrue Vodafone and that you cannot use your own mp3 music as a ringtone. Bonus:You won�t need to see Vodafones extremly uggly menysystem. That is the differens that i know of. at least i Sweden.

Well guys, i called a cellphone shop here in Denmark, and the owner told me that the SE sent him a Model of Z800i to try it and tell the SE firm what he thinks about it, i also asked him about the launch date of this device, while no one gave me a date. He told me this phone is comming between the 3rd of May and expected Max 17th May if it was delayed, thats 17th of May Max.. And i ran up with an interessting site that has tested the phone. Better check it out. Oh And it has a 5MB Internal memory, thats what the guy told me, and it is also written in this site.. check it out!!!

Hey, I read on a website somewhere that the Z800 will be coming out end of April/beginning of May and will cost $550-$600 American...I assume it was an American site but I cant be sure. So I dont know exactly when it is coming out in other places...hopefully it wont be too long after. I did contact Sony Ericsson here in Australia and they told me that it would be comnig out between now and June...but thats all they said. I hope its sooner than later, because I have been waiting for this phone since like Jan or Feb, and I desperatly want it NOW!

@SE: I have it in NZ... I got it from Parallel Imported. There were 2 when I went to buy it. Some guy bought one the day before me and I got the last one. But apparently there's heaps in NZ. Just have to look around... and try your luck.

I stumbled across these deatils on a Sony Ericsson (non-official) page... The Z800 will be released in April/May 2005 in UK. It should be availble on 02 and Orange (3G). The will hopefully be the same as the current V800 price.

I just got this phone on Friday. I love it!!! I got the Vodafone brand but with the Z800 software. It works great with no problem. The only thing I have problem with is that when I go to the Internet to download stuff it keeps telling me the phone not recognized. Any Idea how to fix this issue? please advise.

If you wanna get this phone ASAP, buy Vodaphone 802SE in Japan cheap and get it unlocked. They are given different names but identical. My buddy did it and it's working fine in the US.

Have just managed to convert my V800 to a Z800 with a software upgrade for �8 on the net The first thing I notice is I now have a zoom lens on the camera and can use my own mp3 files as ringtones but if you try to download any games the phone doesn't seem to be recognised.

This's got to be better fone,compares with the V802(V800 unlocked+using Z800 softwares),I had mine from HK not long ago and now it started playing up...loosing reception/sim card not registered/call dropped/...etc So I think the Z800 is far better and than you don't have to go through a lot of hassle unlocking it and get it to work the way we wanted it to be.If you're thinking of getting the V800 or V802,you better wait another few months to get the Z800 and have hassle-free phone(unless you live in Japan and somewhere which support 3G). 1 more thing,I think the Z800 is far much better than S700i in size/function/price/....as we all know now phones are getting smaller&smarter and won't be long we will need phones that can support 3G.

Well S700i have the same screen. It's not that screen that makes the pictures in the screen looks better, it's the difference between S700i's CCD camera compared to that of the CMOS camera on the Z800. The pictures are clearer on the S700i, however, in terms of functionality, the Z800 has way more functions than that of the S700i. S700i is as huge as a brick... while phones are supposed to get smaller and smaller.. anyways.. they're both good phones though, depends on u'r own interests.

I just got a v802se from japan and it's using the z800 software. The screen is crystal clear... but has anybody tried taking pictures in darkness with the flash on? does it takes good pictures, or there is a lot of noise in the pictures? however, this phone is worth it.. I got it for 630cdn upgraded and everything.. or $3780hkd...

Got my V802 from HK last week,it's good fone,love it(it's V800 but unlocked+using Z800 soft wares+SE display on mainscreen....not Vodafones Red&grey display)&only cost HKD$4,200 included shipping). I think Z800 is just a upgraded of V800(expected realeased day is 2nd Q/2005)...the only different is:different color housing with out Voda's Logo(scream+stripes)+ 64Mb memo card.

To JM, Z800 is not even out yet, it is planning to come out in april, if you want time phone so bad you can alwasy get the v800 or v802, it is totally unlock now (just got one yesterday) and it can use chinese wording too, because the unlock version is using z800 software (i have question before buying the phone, but once i was using it, i can't belive it is using z800 software. o well this is HK for you, we solve all mobile phone problem.)

To yodle: Ok k750, s700 and z800. if you can wait, then k750 is the best, because it have 2mp cam, memory duo support up to 2g, only this two point make this a winner, S700 is a great cam phone, but SE said they are using the same cam software as s700 on k750. z800 (or should i said v800 or v802) is the best phone if you planning to use 3g network. also the cam is great too. 1.3mpixel, is good enough, also it support memory stick duo too (1g). so as to sum up. for the best is going to be k750i, but u have to wait for a little time. S700 is best for photo. Z800 is great for 3 g and it is a bit of all round player. the final choose is up to u, but i just got a v800 and it is great, can't wait until k750 come out.

I'm in confusion... I am a touch away at purchasing this beautiful unit (z800), however, it's not QUADBAND.. i live in Canada, so we use the 850mhz + 1900mhz bands for GSM. I am aware that the 850 band provides a little bit better reception than the 1900, so this is all that i am stumped over. Should i really care?... Should i wait later on in the year for SE to put out a Quadband phone that is similar to this z800.. ??.. do you think they will?...i'm thinking they will and are bound to since they have none of their phones are quad yet.. (a phone like this one SHOULD BE QUAD!!!) That is why i am now contemplating the mOTO v635 for it is Quadband with a similar feauture set. k750 for imaging.. no 3G / Edge w800 for Mp3.. no 3G / Edge Z800 can still used for Mp3 and Imaging but the battery would'nt last as long as W800 and the Pict would'nt be as great as K750.. But Have 3G/Edge.. ponder

Codemaster: Always good to see another active ZAer. Thanks for your posting, saves me the phone call I have been putting off for ages. Overall it definitely looks to be the best 3g offering I have seen so far. I think I will get it as soon as it is available. Always been with MTN, but signed up for Vodacom's 3g mylaptop towards the end of last year (which has had its issues) and now it looks like I will have to do the same for my voice contract to get the V800. Here's to getting hold of one of them soon...

The only differences with the SE V800 and the Z800 are the memory sticks included in the kit. The V800 includes a 32Mb stick, while the Z800 includes a 64MB stick. One other difference, is the colours available. The Z800 is available in Linear Silver and Titanium Silver, while the V800 is available in Nero Ebano and is a Vodafone branded phone.

@Dimebag I'm also from SA and desperately want a V800i/Z800i. I spoke to Teljoy today about the V800i. Just to clear it up, Vodacom will be using the V800 instead of the Z800 for now, obviously because they are tied to Vodafone for their 3G offering. The person I spoke to said that Vodacom promised they would have V800i's before the end of Feb, but that it is now March, so they are expecting them any day now. Check for details on phones they are expecting, and contact details. Also can't wait to get this beauty.... By the way, the V800i can be flashed with the Z800i's firmware, which will update the software with all the new benefits. I actually prefer the black to the silver of the Z800.

I've personally used a Vodafone V800 for about a month in Bahrain and I have found it to be really dependable and easy to use. The speaker is amazing and the 3G video calls are really clear and are of great quality.

The Z800 and the V800 are the same... except the V800 was badged for vodafone, as they had 3 months exclusivity on it.. which has now expired, hence the unbadged version.. dunno which networks will be takin it though...

Sure this is a great phone - it's basically sim free version of the V800 which I use. I really like it - the phone's got everything you could want but the camera isn't that good indoors - in any low light conditions it gets very, very grainy. Not nearly as good as the S700i - just thought people might like to know
