Sony Xperia 1 - User Reviews

  • Yes ,6 hours SOT its ok for moust users . Buy an notebook to , dont use the phone like one end pretend that the battery on the phone shoul last a month whitout recharging.

  • Actually in my opinion, Sony design & UI makes them unique, best part of it. Its the rest of the specs especially price point made them lagging behind.

  • Sony design is good. Its the ui, lacking of many features, midrange performance camera. How ironic, even xiaomi is now far ahead of them. Their software skill is bad for giant company. Their skill is only raising the number, 2K, 4K, 8K. 48mp, and implementing old tech.

  • can someone confirm that sound equalizer work throughout the whole system youtube, mx player etc. because mine only works in walkman, sony video apps and spotify

  • Not true. Bezels are perfectly fine on this phone. It's very nice phone to use in 1 hand

  • Do you know user experience? Recently I have try the A70 on shop, the bezel-less is a mess when taking photo because there is no bezel to pinch, when I press the on-screen shutter button it zoom in the image because of my left fingers pinch on the bezel-less screen, it is just a beautiful false. A tiny bezel would be fine, a bezel-less is for gimmick.

  • would you prefer the same layout they are using? Samsung, Iphone, Huawei, Xiaomi, LG, HTC, Motorola? I like the diversity and I want to avoid the cheap plastic on a 1k EUR device... "You are blaming me for being different. I am blaming you for being all the same" :))

  • The only reason for which I didn't order this phone yet is that they seem to refuse to put wireless charging on Sony smartphones... Also an audio jack would still be useful. Otherwise, I still use the old XZ Premium (first 4K display on a smartphone and still one of the few) and after all this time, all I can say about it is: Premium :) So I will take advantage on the incredibly good XZ Premium and I will wait for the next flagship from Xperia series... Hopefully there will be some improvements... But anyway, if I would have to replace my phone now, even so, Xperia 1 would still be my first choice... The bloggers/reviewers still spread different opinions around about the camera setup... But I would still chose the most important producer of camera lenses in the world... Maybe they could improve a bit also the camera software and then I will order it for sure.

  • I dont think so, its just you and some who are thinking that way.

  • Big bezels? Where? Boring UI? Use a different launcher. It's an android phone you can change everything.

  • One of the reason why most people avoid buying xperia is: because it has bad design with big unecessary bezels. And the UI also looks dull and featureless.

  • Thailand

  • xperia 1 owners. can you check retail box and tell where this device made in ? China? Japan? Vietnam? etc

  • Too tall....next year 250x70x8 mm hehe...

  • Users should use mainley original phone's chargers .

  • Nope. Sony have own design that's why their competitors always critic. Samsung design is like toys more than a gorgeous phone, unlike Sony design it is gorgeous nothing like a flash/fragility toys.

  • Sot is screen on time, basically a measure of how long in total your screen has been on between charges

  • I would like tounderstand your comment, Please explain "sot"

  • 6 hrs sot is excellent for most people. Cant imagine people will complain if they get consistent 6hrs sot.

  • It is missing just one thing...a headphone jack...

  • Xperia 1 is the best Sony phone. I wait to buy a new phone until I' tested iphone 11 pro and note 10+. Xperia 1 has the best display and image quality. But the most important is how u interact and how u "feel" the phone. It has also a natural elegance.

  • Wtf? Do you think 6 hours of SOT is good?

  • XZ1 . Mine did 6 hours of Screen on time ,for two yars in a row . Original charger only . Panzer tank reliability .

  • I have the same phone for almost 2 years now and I don't have a problem with the battery. You need to understand how this generation of batteries work. The trick is not to wait until the battery is down to 0%, because then you've used one full cycle. Also, don't overcharge it. The battery usually has around 500-700 cycles and after that it starts dying. Try to keep the power between 20% and 80%, ideally 40-60%. I learned this the hard way, as well.

  • I used my XZ1 for only 1 year but battery capacity is below 30% now. I had to charge 4 times a day.

  • imagine why remove sim card that often

  • No 3.5 headphone jack....you might have lost me as a customer here. Back to LG I guess.

  • From wat ve experienced with sony, the battery holds up extremley well by age . Z2 -3 yar-abuse , batery cappacity droped to 80-90% .Xz1 -2 yars of abuse , battery capacity droped with maximum 10% ,.you cant even notice it .

  • VoLTE supported?

  • I got my xperia 1 like a month ago. And i am in love with this phone! You can call me Sony-fagboy (since been using sony since k550, but then had to get P10 Lite after I lost Xperia Z after 5 years of usage), but i am in love with Xperia 1. For those who worry about the batt life: it can last me over 26 hours of normal usage (no game, mostly call, whatsapp, internet etc). The phone never overheated yet so far, and i dont understand why some people said the side gesture is hard to use. I am using the gesture daily, especially to pull down the notification shade. The screen is awesome too, and the camera as well. The latest update allow user to choose the lense to be used. The length is just nice, altho most people commented it look tall, but it fits just nice and the ergonomic is great so the phone feels firm on our hand. I always love the simple Xperia UI, not bloated at all compared to S or H or M phones. p/s: i sold off the headphone that i got free during preorder since i am not an audiophile, thus it can foot the actual cost. 😂

  • Sony said it will "refresh" the signal for the phone after sim card removed or injected :))

  • That happen in every xperia since, IDK, the thing is for security android authority some years ago talks about it, but is okay to restart the phone because who the fxxx change the simcard for the phone to often

  • very small battery, no audio jack, bye bye sony

  • "Sim car removed, phone restarting", anybody been getting this on their Xperia 1 and what is the solution to the problem?

  • I don't know if its me but does everyone thinks that Sony's gesture navigation for Android 9 Pie (or the upcoming Android 10) is better than the One UI 2.0 of the Samsung Galaxy S10 in many ways as it is mainly based on stock Android?

  • Can it record video using the ultrawide camera? How does that perform in dark environments?

  • Xperia 1 review. I must let's you know something, I am now using a China big phone, it isn't over heating but when I put it below the dashboard (shaded area and air-conditioned) it temperature also increase about 40°C although I don't use the screen on to do something but I just play with wireless speaker with YouTube streaming screen off. So if I am bias I will say this China phone has overheating issue because I don't do much multitasking and the screen was turned off. But I don't.

  • I'm not chinese if this what you were asking me earlier. Have you read my previous post? Please kindly read it again. And no. I have not seen any link to what you are referring to i.e. known issues resolved.

  • You don't know Chinese, there review said the Xperia 1 isn't having anymore what your mention issues, should I need to repost the link here? Or he/she repost the same thing to flooding like mess, do you really identify them as a real user? If not why you trust the anonymous than a reviewer!? As your list out here have revealed what you have been done with those nonsense.

  • I don't have an Xperia device at the moment. I am merely conveying what countless users have said about the Xperia 1. Yes, I am interested in purchasing an Xperia 1. Hence I am here. And please no fanboys or haters here. I am here to discuss and gain knowledge from fellow users here. That is all.

  • Which Xperia do you have!? Don't spread lie or trying to be a fake user.

  • I bought it second-hand for about 500 euros. I was impressed by its performance and high quality material. If Sony cuts prices for that phone I highly recommend it.

  • I bought it second-hand for about 500 euros. I was impressed by its performance and high quality material. If Sony cuts prices for that phone I highly recommend it.

  • Talking about the latest update can anyone tell me if the following (known/well documented) issues has been fixed? 1. Camera overheating when recording 4K or 1080p/60? (back camera) 2. Poor/below average dynamic range, stabilization & low light shots? (front & rear) 3. Slow autofocus? (front & rear) 4. Inability to record slow-mo/ultra slow mo at a precise moment? (rear) 5. Somewhat mediocre battery life? 6. Inability to install GCam I appreciate how we use our phones is very subjective. But I am more interested if Sony actually listens to our complaints and doing something about it.

  • I'm comparing this phone to my old Galaxy S9+. I'll try and be simple...what I didn't liked about the S9+ are: 1. Seemingly non-wide angle lense on both front & rear cameras 2. Uninspiring selfie camera as it looks washed out (poor dynamic range), poor sharpness & skin tone, so-so low light selfie photos. 3. No option for Pixel-like gesture navigation; it is still stuck to the 3-button nav or the awkward Samung-centric 3-bar nav. Thinking about the latest software updates...does the Xperia 1 provide a better option/experience than the three I have mentioned here? I would like an honest and open advice please. Thanks.

  • You don't know how to use a Sony phone

  • Seems legit. Reviews approved.

  • Been using this phone for a couple of months now. I have a habit to change mi phones every 6 months or sooner, so I have used many phones. After using Xperia 1 I must say, that it is a mediocre phone and would not suggest it to anyone, especially for this price when there are so many options. Long story short: -Performance is really good - Camera is not good. It only takes good photos in well lit environments. When it gets dimmer and and light gets worse, the photos are blurry, without any detail and very dark. Also, camera is very slow. - Fingerprint scanner is a disaster. This is the worst thing on this phone. The position is good, but the issue is that it does not work... Literaly 90% of time it does not work at all and I have to enter pin/pattern. I have done Factory Resets and have registered new fingerprints dozens of times, and it still does not work. It is terrible. - Screen, besides the high resolution, is average. Brightness is too low and you cannot even see the resolution difference. basically it's too dim for my liking. - It feels good in the hand and does not feel too long actually. I can see that other manufacturers could use this aspect ratio soon as well. - Speakers are good, but there is no depth, no base. Quite plane and flat sound. And the phone vibrates when you turn the volume past 60% - Battery is actually good. Despite the fact it is low on paper - in real life usage it is good. Not great, but good. I give this phone 5/10

  • Don't lie yourself

  • Are you Xperia1 user?

  • You are funny

  • Dimensions: 167 x 72 x 8.2 mm (6.57 x 2.83 x 0.32 in) 6.5" height x2.8" width, it's a disappointment. I suggest that they should expand Xperia 2 to 7" height x 4" width, it's the best option and the market will rise and be competitive against Asian brands, (Xiaomi, Samsung, Realme, Oppo, OnePlus, LG and Huawei).

  • But iphone doesn't last long though. I mean, for a heavy user like me, i have to charge it for like 3-4 times a day

  • Yup slow camera app opening and mediocre performance..

  • You'd be be surprised at how well the battery in the Xperia 1 holds up despite its size. Very optimized for it's hardware, unfortunately there are many who simply judge battery life based solely on size/spec & not actual usage.

  • The difference is, iPhone's software is optimized for the hardware and battery it comes with. I doubt XPERIA 1 or any Android phone, other than Pixels, for that matter, has that kind of optimizations

  • Xperia 1 users, has anyone noticed issues with the auto focus? like images that are soft and not really correctly in focus. I have issues with exactly that and they have been present since i got the phone brand new, even my exchange Xperia 1 has the same issues. I get about 80% out of focus/soft images. This only happens with photography. The phone has most problems with macro and landscapes from my experiance. Manual focus is wierd, when pushing the focus slider over 70% the camera loses focus completly and the images get, well not usable! My phone is up to date with updates aswell.

  • Everyone is talking about the small battery is on the Xperia 1, but iPhone's got a smaller battery and everybody is praising the battery life prrff

  • No one like 21:9. Sales numbers will prove that.

  • Everyone is going make longer and narrower, even Samsung has 20:9 display phone. And LG was first with 21:9. So don't blame Sony for that, blame yourself that you know nothing about

  • Its a great phone, only downside for me is how quickly the glass coating wore down, I got a finger blotch after two weeks

  • Sony has innovative and practically empress on Eye AF from Alpha camera to Xperia. This is very useful for life time photography example when capture photo the people winking and closed eye or not the nice one but with Eye tracking AF AE will capture the every nice shot with burst and the Xperia 5 even come with advanced rectify 3 times for each of the photos, if you want to get a jumping photography it will be impressive each "continues" photos from the burst shot are AF AE and the people is focused. Those competitors just want comsumer buy their "infinity" screen but with a lot compromise, example like notch/waterdrop/punch hole, waterfall screen/curved edge. For the implement of UD fingerprint it is complicated to the display but doesn't better than side mounted fingerprint reader. For the elevator front camera it also complicated for the module and lack water-resistant... A bunch of compromising...and impractical.

  • sony just does not understand why its phones don't sell very well (like samsung or chinese brands). If only this phone had 3.5 mm jack and bezel-less screen and a bit more battery, then it would be perfect. what sony makes as a result: let's make it longer but narrower and call this innovation. sorry sony, if you go this way you will end up being another nokia. I would make some interaction with playstation background if I were the ceo of Sony. also always listen to the customers.

  • Where it is available and why sony mobile is not available in India which new launches. I am sony lover I am waiting for Sony xa3 ultra

  • My xzs screen cracks and bazel breaks when I dropped 1 time from 1 feet.

  • No, you're thinking of UWQHD.

  • I'll probably buy this phone of all phone out of release right now, I'm an anime lover the screen specs is the best out there on market. Correct me if I'm wrong if you screenshot your screen the size would the size of screen and this screen is perfect.

  • The 4K resolution for most screen with 21:9 ratio is 1644p. the 4k that sports 2160p are screen with 16:9 ratio, so technically the screen resolution in xperia 1 still 4K. I'm currently use Xperia 1 as my daily driver, but honestly, the 4K screen is a bit too much. I would prefer 90Hz 1440p screen, but in 21:9 aspect ratio. I personally like this aspect ratio (yeah I needed a lot of getting used to at the beginning)

  • Remember this phone has 1644p 4K screen, not 2160p 4K screen, so it only has a little higher pixel compared to One plus 7pro 1440p. While one plus has curved screen that costier to produce and also 90hz screen, there is also underdisplay fps. So one plus is way more advanced.

  • My Galaxy S2 drop on floor 1time screen cracked directly, but my Xperia Z2 crashed the car door 4 times to broken up not to mention how many time I drop it on floor. You are anonymous could you please register a account, I thought the "anonymous" was origin from annoying+mouths.

  • Only 1 year usage of xz2, volume and power buttons broke. Even a $100 cheap chinese is much more durable than that.

  • Nice classic design. What's wrong with you, if changed the brand?

  • I change from Samsung, experience the Xperia is much durable than the Korea phone, China phone I don't care, if you say China make is durable than Korea make that's another words.

  • Sony Is Best Phones i have Ever seen, I have Also Sony Xpria Xz2.. At One I Buy Sony Then I Never again Buy Some Other Brand.. Becouse my sony never give a chance to get any other phones.. Love U Xperia

  • It is advised to change brands because if you only use 1 brand, you will become a narrow minded fan boy. I used nokia, sony-ericsson, htc, samsung, sony, iphone and xiaomi. My next phone will be oneplus after I sold my xperia 1.

  • Nope. I'll never buy samsung because I am a sony fan.

  • I have exactly same case and same question

  • 4k panel cost more than 90 hrzt refresh rate mind it before compare

  • No. You are wrong. I use my Xperia 1 and it holds charge as OnePlus 7 pro. Xperia 1 has more PPI but OnePlus 7 pro has 90hz refresh rate. So.... Think about before writing so stupid argument

  • Yes. You can close your mobile section :-)

  • Agree

  • And your Samsung 4 hours

  • After 1 year, your xperia 1 will last only 6 hours lol

  • is it worth the 3799 riyals the price tag of Xperia 1 in Souq? Because in myself opinion it’s pretty high, very expensive, i can buy IPhone XS Max with this price range

  • LG was first with 21:9 screen aspect ratio. Sony copied LG. Please do your research.

  • I see so much bitching about screen size and format. Who wants to bet that after a year or so almost every other phone manufacturer will use this screen format? I swear to God , every time Sony does something new there is an army of idiots bashing as if it's the antichrist in person. This looks a lot like they do it on purpose. I am a Sony fan but i never came here to talk crap about other brands. I simply don't care about other brands. For me they simply have no appeal.

  • Oh please move along kid. If I hear that line again?

  • I have to tell you that after unboxing Sony Xperia 1 couple hours today .. it's simply awesome with the best watching experience for handy screen suite your palm besides it's clarity powerful sound .. the best ever for watching movies and playing Games .. the best mobile from SONY ever .. Thanks SONY

  • very small battery, no audio jack, thanks sony you have to close mobile section

  • Ugliest long phone design ever made by sony. Used to be sony fan but not anymore for the last 7 years. Havent seen any phone worth buying.

  • I am living in Saudi Arabia. I have the Xperia 1 imported from Hongkong for 2 weeks now. Yes, battery capacity is lesser than Samsung Note 9 that I also currently own for 1 year. Both of them drained after 12 hours. I can say that it is not always on the battery capacity but on how the manufacturer configures their mobile phone to utilize the power on android OS. Note 9 is good in taking still photos but Xperia is great far more that other mobile phone in taking videos. I am a music lover and loves watching videos while travelling which Sony Xperia can provides me with unequalled experience compare to other mobile phone brands available nowadays.

  • And the ones to test it... Did you troll?

  • Screen is much better on 1, camera and connectivity are flawless and even speed it's better. Look on youtube tests. Note 10+ doesn't add nothing great but its design and a little more battery for that expensive price, pen?! Snobs and 'princesses' to buy it...

  • note 10 is better by just looking at the battery capacity...my girlfriend has note 10+ its big but its worth it good for watching movies on the go and playing games like pubg.. note is tall and wide unlike this Xperia 1 its tall bit not wide...

  • you don't need to have the phone so that u can say it has a bad battery because it has 3330 battery and it has high ppi what do you expect? it will drain fast even it have 855 chip

  • i use to be sony fanboy but when i realize i only like sony for the brand and the gimmicks...and its king of over heat not start phone...back then when x series come out on 2006 i was amazing but the problem is the battery its only 2700 so i skip it i thought nxt phone will have large battery but it never happened til now ...and i also thought that camare on sony phone is good since they are best in photos but again cheper phone beat sony phone really disappointed...

  • I currently use an Xperia Z2( which I have it for almost five years). It is a good phone. I've changed it's battery once, and nothing else. I need to buy a new phone because my old Z2, it's starting to freeze, and sometimes it's not responding. Is it a good choice to stay with the same brand and choose the newest Xperia 1, or change and go with Samsung Galaxy S10+ or IPhone? I'm interested in battery life, sound ( because I am an audiophile - Spotify) and filming quality. Thank you.

  • This is a good phone from Sony and to those who say against the Sony never own any Sony phone before they just being a troll and say something they never knew about. Sony is a king of smartphone like Samsung and LG. Other brands are just trash.

  • In your dreams pal???

  • Only trolls can say it's not

  • Battery is good. What are talking about? You don't have this phone. Don't lie troll

  • The battery is terrible, no 3.5 jack, Sony make Tragically phone. Pity.

  • Only sony fanboys will say that xperia 1 has good camera

  • if you are not happy ....why not???

  • I find something different, you should view the photos on the computer it is more unbiased. The different brand their smartphone display is different, Sony displays will makes better results but some cheaper one can't show properly for pixels coding, because when I view from the computer screen it quite nice but nothing special, unfortunately the cheaper smartphone displays just so plain looks like the coding is unmatching well, when it is on Xperia (Z2) it looks slightly better than on computer screens.

  • As i predicted its a jump for sony in dxo, from 79 to 91. Good job.. Keep working.

  • Why is the photos from my xperia 1 are bad? I thought it has good camera.

  • I saw new note 10+ today. It's a big brick , unbelievable huge phablet for 2 hands. Why people think that OnePlus 7 pro is big, no 7 pro is iPhone compare to note 10+

  • You're a diehard user but you've switched to iPhone?

  • Sony always have a problem, the trolls more than the real user. Remember that their market demands is small, most of the "user" are fake and can be the keyboard warriors spread hate to Sony.

  • i wish and i hope sony xperia become the best phone again...i love the design , the camera and most of all the stereo sound....please sony fix the problem asap. ^_^

  • i am a diehard user of sony phone xperia.....but most of time im getting problem.... hang up, weak signal & low battery .....that why decided to use iphone 4,5,6,7 now im happy for my new iphone.

  • Xperia 1 or Note 10

  • I would like to concentrate on my question which one has the better selfie camera in terms of actual colours, overall quality, sharpness, dynamic range, low light capability, not so much with portrait shots but stabilisation and audio recording (in relation to its actual hardware & features)...the S9+, Mate 20 Pro or the Xperia 1?

  • Not sure about if o understand your question... But not so similar specs, xperia 1 has newer (and better) 855 processor than the phones you mentioned. Personally i would say s9+ and mate 20 pro are great phones, great cameras. For me the xperia 1 is better (processor, display, camera, design) but if your budget is a little tight, go for the past gen options.

  • Do who loves curved display I recommend OnePlus 7 pro I love both of my phones OnePlus 7 pro and Xperia 1. Xperia 1 is easier to hold with one hand. Both have beautiful displays. I would recommend to try in the store first. I did try Xperia 10 plus, just for the size, because I was pre-ordering Xperia 1 to get headphones. Good luck

  • It indeed de best phone i hv ever laid my hand on.. Camera is superb far better than Samsung... My problem is de battery performance... 75 hrs endurance ratins is not bad bt sony could hv done better dan dis.. At least 4000mah could hv been better...interm of originality sonyvis best. No imitation, no variation by country and continent....a new viewing experience

  • Hello. Which phone should I purchase. The options are Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S10+, Huawei P30 Pro and the Xperia 1. Please help.

  • For comparable specs and features against an older flagship like the Galaxy S9+ I'm trying hard to understand which is actually better...the Samsung, the Xperia 1 or an "outsider" like the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Thoughts please?

  • I don't think he has ever tried the xperia 1 in the store neither if he owns one.

  • Why do you say Sony messed up a lot on this one? Do you have it or have you tried it?

  • If you compare this phone to the XZ2 Premium (the last 4K smartphone) the improvements are insane. As someone who was searching around for ages trying to find a cheap XZ2 Premium only to then get this phone a few weeks ago I couldn't be happier.

  • The XR is terrible compared to the Xperia

  • 1 yes 2 not dedicated mode but great pics in low light 3 eis on all cameras, ois only in main and telephoto 4 there is a screen "flash" on front camera 5 Not sure 6 false, YES it has face unlock 7 Dolby can be enable on all content 8 Not dark theme yet, coming in Android 10

  • For slow-mo indeed there is a separate option. You can only take 2-3 seconds of slow mo. No other phone can film long time in slow mo. You choose slow-mo mode and start filming and then at the right time you press for slow-mo and you get the slow-mo section on your movie. You can do this as long you have battery or space. For example you may film a 1 hour movie but you can only take 2-3 seconds of slow-mo at one time. Indeed the 32bit/284khz audio sounds better on paper but it also matters the sound processing and the headphones you have. I am not a audiophile so i can not say. There must be a mall near you where you can find such a phone. Maybe a Sony center? I live in Romania near Bucharest and i played with the phone at the mall to make myself an ideea about this device. I also read a lot of reviews. I recommend that you look at and read reviews. For me it was easy in choosing this phone. I always had phones from Sony-Ericsson days and then only Sony so it was natural for me. I had the following : Sony-Ericsson k750 then Sony-Ericsson k800i which i kept it a very long time an then i got my first smartphone a Sony M4 aqua. Next was Sony Xz premium and now Xperia 1.

  • I agree that Oneplus 7 Pro is one of 2019 best smartphones but Sony... Sorry but no, I will even go for iPhone Xr instead of Xperia 1

  • Sony really messed up a lot, now I am going for another brand that suits me. Good bye Sony Xperia phones

  • I have Xperia 1 and OnePlus 7pro. And these 2 are best phones in 2019. I don't care what you think about, nobody cares your opinion in this article good luck (unknown phones)

  • So do you mean the slow-mo (MOD) option on the camera app is a "dedicated" slow-mo option to capture just slow-mo videos? I also heard that 960fps slow-mo takes only 2-3 seconds? Please clarify. I found out the Sony supports 24-bit/192kHz audio whilst the older Galaxy S9+ supports 32-bit/384kHz audio which IMO is better. But does having fancy features such as LDAC, Apt-X HD, Hi-res audio and DSEE-HX help counter that and actually make listening especially via bluetooth headphones better than the S9+? It's almost useless and hopeless to go to a shop and try out an Xperia 1 these days. Why? Because the phones would either be in retail mode or the battery is not fully charged or the software is not updated. Hence, I ask for help me and those for me are invaluable and I appreciate all comments in here.

  • I am a Sony Xpera XZ user and I am not going back to Sony anymore. Sony are disappointing

  • Dude, if you don't like Sony downright, why the heck you even bothering commenting at every Sony article or related pieces of stuff here at GSMArena? Go find another company suits your preferences and let the Sony fans (including myself) have peacetime of their own for now. We had more than enough fighting for a single Sony article here... Besides, uniqueness and originalities are some of the reasons why fans adore Sony phones for enough while... Sure not all, but that's what I acknowledged...

  • you mean proven superior phones .....

  • Why do you look at Xperia 1 and write kind of funny posts like this one, if you hate it??? Go and discuss those unknown brands. Thank you for your understanding

  • Good luck with unknown phones

  • There are a lot of exciting phones out there like Xiaomi, Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, etc while Sony phones must be avoided. There is no good reason to buy Sony phones at all.

  • 1. Yes you can. You can choose in the display settings between Creator Mode powered by CineAlta tech from Sony and Standard Mode. You can also change the white balance and there is a night time mode that makes it easy on the eyes. 2. I dont think you can take slow-mo while you filming and then resume. When i open the camera app there is an icon named MOD that appears. Touch that and it goes into a menu where you can choose different options. By default above de MOD icon a small symbol appears that looks like this: ((O . It is the symbol for taking slow-mo videos. I guess Sony wanted to make the slow-mo option to be the first option that you have. 3.DSEE according to Sony is used to improve the quality of audio files. I am not an audiophile so i can't comment on that, but i find the audio quality very good even with the standard headphones the phone has. 4. I presume you are talking about Google Camera GCam APK. Is that a Cyanogen mod? For that you should ask on the forums there. It might not be compatible with Xperia 1. My advice for you is to go in to a shop and see the phone yourself. Play a bit with the device as there are units on display and you can see how it performs.

  • Cheers for your quoc answers. I have some more questions if i may: 1. Is there a way to actually change the colour temperature of the screen much like Huawei's? Or the screen Settings are "fixed"? 2. Is there a way to record a video then turn on or toggle on the slow-mo feature? Or do I have to take a slow-mo on the exact moment? 3. Does the DSEE feature acts as an "upscaler" to your mp3 files? 4. Is it true that it is not possible to install the GCam apk or mod? Is there a workaround? Thank you.

  • When will the gsmarena team report on the numerous Xperia 2 leaks? There was a case on the Amazon and other sites. There were benchmark tests and a leak about a possible RAM/ROM configurations. Hell, there has been a leak about a 5" compact device. You report every Huawei leak no matter how shady it is.

  • Hello, i have the phone since july and i am very pleased with it. I have been a Iong time Sony fan but i am not a power user , so here are my 2 cents. 1. Yes you can turn off slide sense. 2. Unfortunately there is no dedicated night mode for taking photos or videos. I wish Sony would give a choice.😠 3. I rarely take selfies as i am not interested in the habits of this crazy world 😁😁. The camera has fixed focus and no gimmicks. 4. I never took a selfie during night 😂😂 time but i dont think there is. Are there any phones that have a flash with the selfie camera? 5. GSM arena review mentions that audio is recorded in stereo with a 156 kbps bit rate in any video mode. 6. The side sensor works for me like a charm. It never failed me so far. It is quite fast. Only when i have a wet finger it doesnt work properly. 7. It is prrety loud. 81 decibels are mentioned in the review. The Dolby settings can be turned on or off in audio settings. 8. I dont know about dark theme, there is a dark theme to choose from in the settings but i like light themes only and i never used the dark theme. 9. The battery is enough for me. I am not a power user so i get 2 days of usage. In the link below there is a excellent review that will provide better answers. There are also many more.

  • I don't have the phone and I only did some reading (research) hence my questions here.

  • Good day i am getting my xperia 1 tomorrow is there any major software update for this phone since has been launched I have been eager to know if they have done any thing to camera software?

  • I think those are valid questions. What an unfriendly community.

  • Good luck. But I will enjoy Xperia 1 before that

  • Are you serious? Didn't you read specifications? How could you miss info before writing these questions? I don't understand that

  • On the verge of getting an an Xperia 1. But I'm curious to know: 1. Can i turn off the Slide Sense feature? (as many complained it's either non-responsive or downright useless) 2. Are there "night modes" on both cameras? (similar to Pixel, Huawei & OnePlus) 3. Is there autofocus, EIS/OIS and wide-angle thingy on the selfie camera? 4. Is there screen flash on the selfie camera? 5. What is the bitrate of the audio when recording something like 1080p @60fps for the front & rear cams? 6. Having no face unlock feature I heard the fingerprint scanner is slow and inaccurate at most. True? 5. Approx how loud (in dB) are the front-firing speakers? And can you turn on Dolby Audio when watching/listening to contents? 6. Is there a feature for full systemwide dark theme? Help and advice please.

  • When is this phone coming to south africa

  • When is this phone coming to south africa

  • Great device and one of the most affordable SD855 in UK. Just £477 for brand new from O2 make it steal deal. I gave up with all 16:9 phones now.

  • Sony battery management is very good. The 1 gets the same battery life as the Samsung S10, and just a few hours less than the OnePlus 7 with its bigger battery. If you turn on Sony's battery conservation, it does a lot better. Also, in my experience of about 7 Sony phones, their batteries are very long lasting.

  • Why did you replied to my post?? I didn't have this problem. I told it was not needed on att for my OnePlus devices. Verizon registered my Xperia 1, and it was first time in my life

  • Hey , I worked for Tracfone. GSM Technology does not need IMEI registration like AT&T and Tmobile, so you can switch your SIM card freely. CDMA technology needs IMEI registration like Sprint and Verizon, SIM card needs to be paired with IMEI so you cant just switch your SIM card , somehow it may work but most of the feature will not work like data/internet. thanks.

  • Xperia V is a piece of overheating junk. It overheats when doing normal web surfing.

  • I love sony brand but i never buying any sony phone before due very expensive for me, but if i really want bought any sony phone the price is not matter for me, but when i look the spec on the batteries is not in my expectation. I hope sony can put higher mah for their smartphone. At least 4k mah in my suggestion. Overall ok including camera, software & etc but only the batteries very low.

  • 16:9 -> 18:9 -> 18.5:9 -> 19.5:9 -> 20:9 -> 21:9... Waiting for 100:9 light saber-phone

  • But I just moved my SIM from OnePlus 6t to OnePlus 7pro on att without registration IMEI. Maybe it's just Sony has this to be done

  • I forgot that. Verizon did registered my IMEI too

  • I'm glad 😊

  • I have resolved. The problem was that IMEI was not registered in ATT prepaid account. Once I registered my device's IMEI on the system, It works. I hope it would be helpful for you guys.

  • i took my first mobile phone experience from a sony phone and that was so fantastic...superb performance...actually i dont remember the model...i guess it as sony xperia v...with a 1 gb ram...although the ram is not enought it doesnt stuck or chop...like samsung ones...i've experienced the differences between samsung and sony phones which are having the same ram but it doesnt make sense...i love sony phones..

  • I'm using this phone on Verizon and so far no network problems. I didn't try att. I don't know about that. I use OnePlus 7 pro on att also. I do love both phones, but Xperia 1 is more comfortable to hold in one hand. I just love it

  • The problem will be with your carrier and its band frequencies.

  • Not True. Most newer dual sim phones will both be active 4G/LTE.

  • Just because it's not us model you should put APN settings manually. Go att website and find APN settings for 4g phone. It should resolve the problem

  • Thanks for answer. But, I had tried to insert the sim into slot 1, but 4G does not work neither.

  • In a dual Sim set up only 1 Sim is equipped with the latest/fasted connection speeds and it is a design practice common among all the phone manufactures

  • Now I'm using Xperia 1 dual sim unlocked version (J9110) in the U.S., and the carrier is AT&T prepaid unlimited data plan. However, when I inserted sim card to slot 1 and slot 2 either, 4G LTE is not working with both slots of the phone, but 3G is only working. Is somebody else knowing the reason why this situation has been happened and how can I resolve this problem?

  • Been using for two weeks now, excellent in most regards (having got used to the fingerprint scanner i feel more positive about it now) Only minor complaint is that the Dolby Atmos setting for the speakers isn't on by default, got the shock of my life when i decided to peek into the sound settings whilst watching netflix one night, the sound blew me away after turning it on. Overall i would wholeheartedly recommend this device, hits every one of my personal smartphone essentials (camera features, clean software, good oled, decent battery life) and with the price I pay for it every month for it i'm more than happy (I work for a mobile provider and get a staff discount but oh well)

  • Yeah, it's not good.

  • Honor 7i side mounted fingerprint scanner isn't the good placed, seem their component for the flip-up camera occupy the right side of the phone. Xperia fingerprint scanner is ergonomic placed since Xperia Z5.

  • huawei did it in 2015 with honor 7i. Its old technology

  • 4 words. Side mounted fingerprint sensor. It's a game changer.

  • Dude, Sony already said it on the interview from a few months ago. Xperia 1 target market is for people who do cinematography, photo and movie-consuming, and people who love to take lots of videos with their phones. They admit it won't sell a lot compared to ROG or Huawei, but they did successfully on their niche target, for now.

  • ASUS ROG II is better with more powerful hardware and cheaper price, more battery, HIGH quality design !!! why we paid. Why spend so much on Sony toys?

  • And what your remote control aka Sony Xperia 1 OS runs google/Android OS.

  • My best pal has this phone and he handles its marvellous frame with grace and aplomb. Every photo taken with it picks out every imperfection and flaw in my skin. The battery life easily lasts 2 days. I'm always excited to receive a message from my friend because i know it has been delicately typed out on this masterpiece. 10/10.

  • I see thats why most Sony reviewers in youtube are from UK (TechChap, Thechspurt, Supersaf) US YT don't really care about Sony. Unboxtherapy did unbox but the first impression wasnt really that great, no yelling excitement and stuff like he usually does, Lew just ohh... ohh... Feels bad for Sony.

  • Contact your carrier. If you buy from carrier with monthly plan/deals they usually locked it.

  • Why you people buy Sony Brands while you don't like them stop buying them and talking in bad way leave them to Sony Mobile Fans to buy.i have sony ,samsung, nokia,LG mobiles but never bashs them and my sony M dual since 2013 still woking fine this and i've disassembled it twice and the mini pro that i had still working fine and same i disassemble it twice i like to ruin my mobile phones to test them hahaha but still working fine.

  • I have one and my brother have one. This phone is usability nightmare.

  • Hello,, How can I unlock my Sony Xperia when am in another country to use that country networks?

  • LOL, I put my phone exclusively in my front jeans pocket. Every phone I ever owned goes in my front jeans pocket. You must wear some tight ass jeans for it not to fit. I sit fine with no problems, you don't even own this phone and only spread misinformation.

  • You sound ignorant. That's not really even true anymore. Since the first Pixel, they took phone development in-house. They acqui-hired HTC's design team.

  • Google is not even a phone. It's the name only, somebody else is making phones for them. Hahahaha

  • Apple and Samsung are the top two smartphone brands that are clearly ruling the market of smartphone in the United Kingdom. There is only a thin margin between these two brands. There are several smartphone models of them like iPhone 7, iPhone 6s, iPhone XS Max, Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7 and more. Other brands that are popular in the United Kingdom are Google, OnePlus, Huawei, LG, Motorola and more. So these are the best and popular smartphone brands in the United Kingdom. It always hard to choose which would be the best smartphone for you but with the brand name like Apple and Samsung you can buy there any model. No mention of Sony.

  • Xperia 1 does have Game Enhancer Source :

  • Just a message to people who think Sony are irrelevant or dying. They have the 4th highest market share here in the UK behind Apple, Samsung and Huawei.

  • More review Xperia 1 hand on. Source:

  • Blah enough: Sony doesn’t offer any gaming tools which could further optimise performance or the experience The settings is all can do. Don't tell me the reviewer don't know to review the Settings or just take chance to missing review it. Source:

  • Anandtech Xperia 1 review is out. The ups & down of it is exactly as i predicted. -

  • yeah water got in, i can see water mist in front camera, sim connecter is good i think it came in the hearing speaker

  • i took my xz premium to the beach fully in water no problem, had a lot of really clear pics. This xperia 1 just in the shower and not soak in water jus water plash n stuff, now it dont turn on...been waitin.. now what

  • Worst thing battery is too small

  • No problems at all with the phones size. Fits in my hospital scrubs, jeans, jogging pants & sweats with no issues. Great phone, I'm enjoying it so far. The WH-1000X M3's sound super nice also.

  • You can't anymore. Pre order bonuses are for pre orders

  • Been using it for a month and no problem with sitting or climbing stairs. Stop trolling for something you don't have/afford.

  • Ahh, ok. Well I'm in eastern PA, so I guess I'd be considered a rural area. Maybe I could try contacting T-mobile and ask them what bands are used in my area. If it is band 71, then oh well, maybe I'll have to upgrade to a oneplus 7 pro instead... Thanks though!

  • Barely 1 inch? Lmao!! Put it in front pocket of jean pants and try to sit.

  • for camera its back to 12mp, so older xperias is better in a way for certain users. and well tats how they keep sellin, upgrade somin and downgrade somin, n upgrade again wat they down. cus if they make it all possible at best, some people wont be buyin more often

  • I have it in the USA. Band 71 is used more in rural areas by T-Mobile. So if you live in a metro area you will still get very fast speeds and coverage with the other bands they use. The phone works good here.

  • AVG is bloatware.

  • Anyone have this phone in the USA and also have T-Mobile as service provider? If so, do you get good service and data speeds? Only along because I am considering this phone but noticed it doesn't list band 71 that T-mobile uses so just curious if you still get 4g lte speeds or not.

  • Be sure to check inside the box we're the "manual" comes, some regions include a clear case, mine does.

  • Of course you can take take pictures from a close position just focus and give the phone some time to focus and you will see an excellent photo i have done that with my Xperia 1 hundred of times and it works very well fast and reliable much better then many other flagships out there i have also the Galaxy S10 the regular one and it also does a great jobb in photography but i have to say that the Xperia 1 is abit more reliable specially in really bad situatons where when opject i moving here i found that Xperia 1 does a much better jobb it also takes sharper pictures den my almost 5 mounth old S10 and if your Xperia 1 dosnt take god close up pictures then there is maybe something wrong the way you take the picture you must not be in a hurry becourse then it is not good. If you still have problems with the main ( rear camera) then use the white angle camera here you shoulnd have any problem at all but i doubt i think you somehow should learn you self how you use your Xperia 1 like i said in the begining i have my Xperia 1 since the day it was release and i dont found any problem with the camera or things the Xperia 1 is in my opion a fantastic phone that delivers.

  • Stop lying, it fits in my jeans pocket fine and barely longer than my old phone by one inch. The people who can't fit it in their jean pockets are wearing jeans that are too tight.

  • Where can I buy this online and would get the added Sony MX 1000 M3 for fast delivery to Canada?

  • i finally have it most gorgeous piece of tech ever but it NEEDS a case

  • Have you even use it? I'm currently rocking this phone and it's actually much easier to handle than my previous p30 pro. The phone is slim, but tall. It still fits in my jeans, but it does sticking up a bit, but it's not much a big deal... Unless if you're a kid

  • Too long and big. Will not fit in pocket!! Unless u r big or fat with big ass jeans. Deal breaker.

  • And you know it's uncomfortable because you've tried it? Wow, stop spreading FUD. It fits in my pocket fine and I thought it would be worse than my old phone because it's slightly longer. It fits fine no problem unless you're wearing skin tight jeans.

  • I just checked some small things like paper clip but didn't found some close focus issue with my Xperia 1. Just touch what you need focus and it does the job well.

  • been having problem on why camera cant have clear close up picture, for example like a ring i take a pic to sell, jus cant focus or something. ive never had this problem in past xperias, it would actually get clearer the more i zoom in.

  • an awesome phone but it is still expensive!

  • i want a xperia 1

  • anyone else waiting for the xperia 1 in the uk through vodafone i want my sweet sony (and my sweet free ps4)

  • If you like clear cases, check Spigen's.

  • Beautiful, but it might be too tall for someone with small hands like me. Putting this phone in your pocket is definitely going to be uncomfortable for the most part. Xperia 1 bezels > pop up camera which means no IP rating > any type of notch with ugly chin (most android phones to date). Fight me.

  • Bezels looks like something out of 2017. No headphone jack. Small battery considering the screen size and resolution. Ridiculous price point. With all my love to Sony, they are doing constant mistakes in their smartphone department. I'd rather get the Zenfone 6 or the K20 Pro and I'd still have a lot of change to spare.

  • Much better design, much better battery life, slightly bigger screen but smaller form factor in a good 19:9 ratio. Better support from 3rd parties(software and hardware) since it out sells 100 times more than xperia 1 lol.

  • K20 pro=great phone as well as popular Xperia 1= bad phone, unpopular

  • Chrome has ads. Youtube has ads. I guess you've never used an android phone. But, you can do xiaomi free from any ads if you know how to do.

  • No. AVG can't do anything because google is pushing ads.

  • My Xperia 1 just arrived right before leaving for work. Now to find a case & screen protector. Will be getting the Sony Style Cover whenever it releases, but any other recommendations?

  • because the ads on android phones are coming from certain apps that have been installed, and Sony is preinstalling AVG protection that would detect such apps.

  • I've never heard of ads in xperia devices. Its a chinese thing. Only cheap chinese devices do that.

  • Don't listen those k20pro fans they don't understand that good phone is much better than popular one. Yes, do have OnePlus phones ( because they sell them in usa legal), but else from China

  • I have OnePlus 7 Pro already and waiting for Xperia 1:-)

  • I did not get. Do like Xperia 1 or not?

  • after havin this xp1 for a while n all my past xperias, i would say the future xperia 2 is another blahblah. ill still have to buy the xp2 cuz im a spender n fan, maybe even after tat one then there will be something tat make people around want one. cuz handing my phone to someone to try something, they would complain about thisnthat. and well this time xp2 is shorter fits better in poket, always fixing their own faults, causing me 1grand everytime

  • Sony should seal in INdia also through ONLINE.. we all SONY lover miss that

  • One week to go until I have my Xperia 1 in hand. Got my free WH-1000 XM3 headphones. Going to try the headphones on my LG V40 this weekend if I get the chance. Next phone on my list is the OnePlus 7 Pro. I'll try to get one before years end or wait for the 8 or 8 pro if they're in the making for early next year. Enjoy your phone's people!

  • Stealing

  • I love it, but how can I get it without money :)

  • You can't be too smart to make a statement like that. Better in what?

  • Yes, only in game mode

  • Does this phone really have 120hz refresh rate?

  • An amazing smartphone.

  • Even though xperia 1 has more resolution on paper, there is no difference as human eye can't see more than 326ppi. That's why 326ppi iphone displays are called retina display. But, more resolution means more stress on gpu which in turn leads to poor battery life and more heat. 4k display is only for 20 plus inch screens.

  • OK if you consider a screen with half the resolution and AMOLED vs OLED the same screen.....

  • Same display???? You must be joking

  • If you have playstation 4 and internet connection yes, you can play on your PS4 through your phone using the DUALSHOCK4 from anywhere.

  • Ads can be turned off. Xperia 1 also have annoying ads too.

  • Are you joking? The price of K20 pro is not $600. It is $400. Less than half of the xperia 1's price but same OLED screen, same chipset and similar camera quality. But, K20 pro has better design and bigger battery.

  • Guys in that phone you can play game of playstation?

  • Agreed. If bundled with the XM3 headphone, just buy it. If not, think twice. Xperia 2, Pixel 4, Mate 30, Note 10 gonna launch soon, better wait what they got to offer for the price.

  • The phone feels very "premium" I bought it for our CEO and he likes it so far!

  • It's too expensive for what this phone offers. The free headphone deals sweetens the blow but there's much better choices out there.

  • Yeah, I was hoping to hold on to it for a while as well. Really hoped for it to have the XZ2P camera combo but it was not to be. The Xperia 2 also seems to have the same 3x camera setup. However, if Sony doesn't release a phone that has the B/W sensor in the mix, I will be using the Xperia 1 for the time being.

  • Are you joking? 950 and a half is 600? The best screen on the market, for now, better chip, better camera... Good luck you, definitely-guy)

  • flooded with ads, and you called it best phone?

  • Yes it has all 3. Specifically, the Music player is arguably the best built-in Music player on any Android smartphone, with only LG's music player coming close.

  • My 15 years old nokia still works too lmao! So is my 8 years old samsung.

  • Lol. Are you joking? K20 pro is better than xperia 1 and it cost only half.

  • had xz3 and using the xp1 now, but gona get the next one too the x 2 or so. I was really really hoping this one would be a long keeper but nope, jus another couple month use hehehe. always they improve something and ruin something tat seem better in older xperia

  • Yes, It has LED notification light

  • His comment is genuine as he is an owner. Your just a youtube dreamer.

  • does anyone have any idea how or if the 1 system ui has a toggle like samsung where the apps and navigation bar can be turn on to full-screen apps and full-screen mode, the entire ui of the system even where certain apps are, is being distorted and stretched improperly. how does the display correct itself like on the samsung ui where there is a full-screen mode toggle? can anyone help?!?! there is no official info anywhere on the internet! URGENT HELP!!!

  • phone is good but its expensive.. i bought a xperia smartphone 7 years ago and it still works.. sony xperia ray

  • Greeting all does this phone has built in file manager, gallery and music apps?really need an answer

  • You'll want one if you watch this entire video...

  • when i use camera n zoom in on this phone, its not clear like all my past xperia. and also color is not vivid like older xperias. so it has more pixels but less vivid, then we should prefer the color, cuz we can tell, instead of more pixels that we couldnt tell anyways

  • The Xperia 1 looks so beautiful ❤️

  • The best of smartphone 2019 period

  • The pixel 3 isn't €370 that's the pixel 3a you are getting them mixed up.

  • The screen resolution of 3840x1644 is way to high performance is surely going to be compromised with 643 ppi screen. I just don't see why this phone is nearly a thousand euro. It still has a thick bezel up top, the specs are high but there are far better choices out there for around 500 euro with similar specs I'm also surprised the camera is only 12mp.

  • You could do better and get the phone sooner and cheaper from Canada going to PDA Plaza.

  • The phone stuck on event horizon xD

  • Just pre-ordered my US variant unlocked Xperia 1 from Amazon. Hoping to get my free WH-1000XM3 headphones also...Amazon has no notic of getting the headphones free with pre-orders. B&H have the phone & headphones pre-order deal up on their site. Hopefully Amazon update their site as Amazon, B&H, Best Buy & others are supposed to offer this deal with pre-order/purchase from now til the US Jul 12th release date.

  • always use Sony Xperia, I had the Z3, it still works, but I migrated more than a year ago XZ Premium, I still use it satisfactorily, my next Sony will be Xperia 2, I look forward to it, I have never failed, thanks Sony.

  • Does it have led notification light?thanks in advance

  • the price will drop so quickly..be sure just like google pixel 3 price at the beginning in 20january was 966$..now its 370$ they must learn, don't pricing devices so high samsung learn that, bcuz now too many manufacturer makes good phones with low prices for example.3 years ago samsung release a9 pro(2016) for 540$ now @ the beginning of introducing galaxy a60 2019 currently you can find it 248$ @ aliexpress

  • Were you using your phone in typing your comment?

  • Currently I am using this phone nearly 3 weeks and about battery life which is fine for me. With normal usage after unplugging the phone at 7:00am in the morning I got 35% battery left at night. Though I am not heavy user.

  • I have the Xperia 1 sine the day ut was release and i have testet the phone like around quality camera peformance and mant other apps which are preinstalled and did nt Foyns any issues all of that nonsens you read see om you tube videos are none feiring om ny Xperia 1 and batterylife is suprisesingly good . But there some thing Sony has to fixe in the Cinema pro app here i agere with gsmarena but other then that the Xperia 1 is an excellent phone and it can stand out og it's own. The design and buildquality is also excellent over all the Xperia 1 delievers .

  • If you can't afford it then don't buy it. Why settle on a phone that has overrated MP (Huawei). This phone is a beast .

  • makes video centric phone without 3.5mm jack. GREAT!

  • What's so funny about it?

  • In Latvia from 3 june. Phone is amusing!

  • this phone was available now here in Budapest Hungary. i already have it

  • Can anyone tell me...in which country this Sony mobile will be available...?

  • i never watch supersaf, a little bit biased reviewer...also his thumbnails are ugly af, makes me puke

  • I live in France, but you can find it if it's still available on a site called "Fnac", because they start shopping it today if I'm not mistaken.

  • link?

  • Don't forget the fact that when you coupled it with a sony headphone with Hi-Res Audio. You get LDAC audio quality. Which means. Everything you hear is like playing games with a 5.1 or 7.1 channel surround sound speakers. And if you're watching movies. And you enabled the dolby atmos. It's like you're in the cinema.

  • It is true. Hi Res audio sound is loud but crystal clear. I play Hotel California HR in my Xperia XZ premium. Fantastic sound.

  • Me! Pre-ordered with a bundled WH1000X M3 ;)

  • I agree with you and already I play PUBG with 21:9 Aspect ration on my Xperia 1, Fortinite 21:9 ratio adjusted version and Asphalt 9: Legends version also coming with the phone. Good thing about watching videos in Xperia 1 21:9 display is most movie trailers and videos fit display or can zoom in within display which fit all corners well with full screen viewing which I enjoys.

  • anyone compare the xperia 1 photo/video quality on supersaf and flasingdroid youtubers ? In supersaf video, xperia 1 has low dynamic range especially on the sky and cloud on every photos or video, but in flashingdroid he only got a few photos where s10 has better dynamic range. Color reproduction is better on xperia 1 all the way because s10 color make a green-yellowish leaf becomes whole green and xperia 1 somewhat has more details. On video stability other than 4k the rest s10 has no match. Now it comes down to why certain ppl is getting bad photo quality on xperia 1 but some always get good quality. Probably takes some skills to operate the phone properly

  • Recently bought an Xperia 10 Plus. It has the same aspect ratio and screen size, so I can explain who can buy this phone. Will take myself as an example. 1) While I frequently watch Youtube, there is quite a lot of content optimized for 21:9 ratio. More so I'm watching movies on the way in the trip or vacation quite often. 2-3) Indeed the screen is a little bit narrow, but it didn't cause any problems for me while typing. It's even easy to do with one hand actually. And multitasking with such screen is convenient. 4) Famous games like Asphalt 9 supports 21:9. Others will do in time, I think. 5) Come on, it is only 1 cm longer than S10+ and P30 pro...

  • 1. I don't think so! I'm watching movies on the small screen whenever I'm ridding on the bus or on the train. 3. You can still type on the screen even if the display is narrower. 4. Of course there's almost no support game for 21:9 ratio resolution because it's still new. Give it a few more months. And there will be games available for 21:9 ratio display. 5. You say that a 21:9 on a 6.5 inch display can't be placed on a pocket? Tell that to the asians.

  • Regular Bluetooth (4.2) and it's marginally improvement such as aptx is almost 20 year technology, the reason it's sounds compressed is that it's low bitrate at 320kbps, like watching DVDs, but Bluetooth 5 (released in 2018), aptx hd ( released in 2016) is at 600kbps, but ldac (released late 2015) is at 990kbps, actually very high quality and close to original especially when listening to flac files, not lossy format such as MP3

  • Let's compare Audio quality on phones to high resolution Dedicated audio player, like phone camera quality to aps-c camera, even the best phone (apart from onkyo dp-cmx1) including lg will be like those inexpensive compact camera with 1/1.7 small sensors, on the other hand, onkyo dp-cmx1 is like mirrorless aps-c camera, then you have high resolution Audio player such as Sony nw-zx100 or astell and Kern kann which are like mirrorless full frame cameras. I gather you never heard a phone or even better high resolution Audio player playing music via ldac on Sony 1000xm2 or aptx hd with astell and Kern xb10, it would be like 1 inch sensor camera like Sony rx100, which still significantly better than built-in 3.5 mm phones, however, add Cyrus sound key or audio quest dragon fly DAC to a phone, you can actually make sound rather decent.

  • me

  • Yes, whatching movie on the phone is not good idea, first it will get interupted with calls and notifs. Interupted by people if we are in public space. Watching short youtube videos is great, but for a lenghly movies, its better on big screen when we have spare time..

  • The trolls still thinking the mainstream camera quality is better, but they all lost more detail actually, they have too much noise remove processing to lost detail texture color and gradient. Unlike Raw noise reduction, it retain details and very less noise.

  • 21:9 display is great for movie because it totally fit at the screen without notch or ugly protrude front camera to block the view, when display 16:9 can also stretch the ratio to fit the screen, but I think I prefer don't stretch up the ratio I prefer a "bezel" to enhance holding experience. For split screen, it is ease to do 2 thing on one gorgeous screen. The smarter way is the adjustable layout can fit 16:9 on one side and another column with 9:16 when vertical, it is flexible to use, personally I don't use split on 16:9 ratio on my XA Ultra because it has shorter space but 21:9 have more space than 16:9 or 18:9, so 21:9 definitely has it merit. More typing space is even better. Sony know a smartphone not only for multi-media but also for social media, the taller screen has more space to show sort of contain it also reduce swipe up or down rapidly. The more typing space the better way to do word editing for vertical. And yes rotate to landscape for multimedia immersion. For gaming, wider view is better. If the screen is narrower it is better? The on screen gaming's buttons is there, so think it yourself.... I don't argue with you. Remember it has lighter weight and slimmer thickness. 21:9 is pocketable like the Gsmarena's reviewer saying. If slightly different is a problem to you than get a small phone, then you won't complain anymore.

  • Who's watching 16:9 YT videos on a tiny subpar screen? Who's playing games on a tiny subpar screen? Who's watching photos on a tiny subpar screen? I do not, but why mention just 21:9 movies? Because it's a Sony?

  • Yup, just what i thought. The 21:9 screen quality is excellent (other than mixed-bag Sony's implementation, should have use full screen gesture instead of the pill gesture, fingers will be more stretchable), and i believe this trend will be followed by others next year. Anddd just what i thought as well, the camera is a bit of letdown in terms of photography, still not the top, will wait for more reviews definitely. -

  • Well, that's what people also used to think about 18:9 ratio. Yet, people already got accustomed to the screen ratio. It all comes down to personal preference and familiarization, not so much about "fanboying."

  • Totally correct...

  • 1. No one watch movie on tiny phone. Most people only watch some youtube videos which are 16:9 or 19:9 ratio. For 21:9 phone, there will be ugly black bars on both sides 2. No one use split screen on tiny screen. You can multitask by double tapping mutitasking button or sliding on multitaking bar on android P. 3. Less typing space as screen is narrower 4. Bad for gaming because almost no games support 21:9 ratio 5. No pocket in the world can hold that absurd aspect ratio phone. #No one should buy 21:9 ratio phone.

  • Who is going to take this device in 2019 lol...

  • Me.

  • how accurate is the creators mode??

  • Ok thanks

  • It doesn't sound, it really is childish, gsmarena obviously says in their review one of the best display if not the best, put in mind my comment wasn't for him if you notice, i do understand people overacting for something they love "fanboys" but can't stand people overhating something they don't love "trolls"

  • Can't understand why people still haven't realize you can buy things online.. And the fact you don't like something, don't means that the rest of the world thinks as you... I'm sorry, but this comment sounds a child's rant

  • Who watches movies on a smartphone?

  • It was you who said candy bar phones are terrible, now look at Sony. You also said OLED screens, curved screens, multiple cameras, etc were useless, now look at Sony. You have no creditability here.

  • 21:9 is the maximum ratio and it is the standard/perfect ratio for movie, enhance split screen experience, more typing space and better view on role play gaming. Most important it is pocketable! Your suggestion 24:9 ratio just for trolling.

  • i wait phone with 24:9 screen ratio, i love long phones

  • I always opt for a sub-par cos of the fellowin: 1. I a personified viewin. That,s mainly the only way i can actually do whatever i like when watchin movie. 2. I am alwayz on the move so tv is cumbersome. And then 3rdly, in my country power supply is the most erratic i ve ever seen.

  • I really love the form factor of Xperia 1. But sadly, Sony devices aren't available in my country. Hopefully there'll be taller phones in the future :D

  • Why watch movies on a tiny subpar screen? Get a TV, dude!

  • i receive my xperia 1 yesterday..what first impression are this phone tall lol but surprisingly comfortable to hold and stunning display. even better than note 9 and s9 ( my family using both) mann really unexpected, no wonder sony say it be like mastermonitor, no oversaturated, gradient color soo easy to look. demn testing watching movie on netflix is incredible result. if someone need punchy color , maybe this phone not quite match with this phone like i can feel sony back to right direction. unfortunately this phone quite easy to sold out, in my country it not easy to get. what sony need to do is if possible ask developer or creator content to provide 21:9 too..some games still not support that ratio so it feel bit weird lol. but its okay for me as my game has supported

  • Yes, It has both always on display and function to let it switch on with specific movements of phone

  • During my usage of couple of days now, I feel battery life is ok with full day use after removal of charging at 7:00 am. Kind of similar to my previous Xperia XZ2.

  • yes this phones have always on display, the thing this phones doesnt have is the wireless charging and the 3.5 mm audio output

  • I love smart guys! Cheers!

  • Base on GSMA lab test, for a high price phone, the battery life is average. But if you tested, compare it on real life usage with S10+ & resulting about the same, then thats good. Real life usage always the best. P30 Pro still superior though.

  • Anyone faced heating issue on this phone? My xperia 1 runs very hot and lags a lot while playing games.

  • Does anyone know if this phone has an alwaysl on display?

  • Agree, It's quite comfortable on my hand even better than my previous XZ2.

  • Bought mine, a Hongkong version with google playstore in China, Got the new update as soon as it connected wifi and this improved 4K video recording further. Love the 21:9 wide aspect ratio with PUBG and also game enhancer mode.

  • Minimal bezels (barely there), no notch, no cut out and an absolutely stunning screen! A joy to watch my movies on, like being in the cinema except I am not...! Software is pretty much stock too!!

  • Actually, the battery life is surprisingly very very good! I seem to end up at around the same battery percentage left at the end of the day as I get with my S10 plus and used to get with my Pixel 3XL, around 46% at bedtime from switching on at 07.30 in the morning...!

  • No doubt that Sony has really stepped up with this phone. While P30 Pro is currently the King, lets wait and see how this phone is 3/4 months.

  • well i have it for a few days now. jus wondering when US sells, is it different from mine. international and US version

  • Performance - Xperia 1 Videography - Xperia 1 Battery - P30 Pro Photography - P30 Pro Just my 2 cents.

  • Sony Xperia 1 or P30 PRO.more powermance

  • Xperia 1 180 g (6.35 oz) iPhone XS Max 208 g (7.34 oz) Samsung Galaxy S10+ 175 g / 198 g (ceramic) (6.17 oz) Huawei P30 Pro 192 g (6.77 oz) I don't think it's heavier in the competition. don't be a hater kid.

  • Wait i check again and see the descruption below. He states that this is after the update ,,(55.0.A.2.278) Dramatical improvements on quality and stability on wide angel lens'' Maybe this is for Manual only and not auto.

  • No matter how Sony polished the trolls still can smear it..

  • so excited to try my Xperia 1, just did bought it and waiting to deliver to my home. people here mixed between real user and hater. as far as I was using Xperia and apple (especially ipad and some iPhone like 4 and 6 ) I can say for battery, support update and display sony always did great job. even iPhone is worse. ofcourse ipad is better in term of endurance (yeah big battery dude) but really sony Xperia 1 make me feel excited again as this phone have one package for what I need (multimedia). it like jack of all. if you are love photography learn using manual too. don't too much rely on auto in my opinion. and ofcourse UI sony is one what love about sony phone, nearly stock android. ah I was forgot, tall display it will help you do multitasking in portrait. one of point to buy Xperia 1 for me design? yeah its not futuristic looks but it so elegant and long lasting..

  • I don't know man i hope this is real video and not a fake one from a fanboy defending Sony no matter what! I like Sony too but they need to polished their product before releasing it cause many people will have the wrong idea for their smartphone camera's

  • Impressive! Is it because using Manual mode or after got firmware update? The problem with 4k recording before are because its OIS not working well with their 5-axis EIS. Update: So its after getting firmware updates. But the video just showing a Wide Angle camera sensor with purely using EIS, not the Main Sensor.

  • Woah!! They improve the camera quality in 4K and the stabilization is just awesome!! What time to be alive! Are Sony actually start listening huh?!

  • I have used Sony z series. I still say it bad battery for a premium price. What is sony problem any way giving big battery or be a looser in Market.

  • I ditto that!! Lol To many Sony Nay sayers on GSM!

  • Xperia 1 180 g (6.35 oz) iPhone XS Max 208 g (7.34 oz) Samsung Galaxy S10+ 175 g / 198 g (ceramic) (6.17 oz) Huawei P30 Pro 192 g (6.77 oz) I don't think it's heavier in the competition. don't be a hater kid.

  • Stupid argument

  • Guys stop complaining.. Sony don't look to design here and to battery or anything else.. They just did this phone for a new camera system that is great honestly.. But yes design seem old and battery small and bla bla bla.. But always my experience with Sony was great their phone are great and strong strong like a tank! I still own xperia z and xperia z2 and z3 and z5 and they all still working and their battery still great.. Yes old chipset mean slow phones and btw now i use mi 9 as my daily driver

  • Sony phone quality are great.. But they're not available anywhere now.. No sony in middle east.. No sony anywhere..

  • that is why i say the final score is not that accurate. for light user who only use their phone for phone calls and messaging, standby time matters. but one dont spend 1000 dollars just for a phone. when you do multi-media, web browsing and gaming, the small battery struggle, which is reflected by the web and video score. when sony put a gorgeous screen, and then a small battery to power it, it's a stupid design, as no software trick can overcome the physical necessary power drain to keep that screen on.

  • You have been defeated and proven wrong again. Accept the truth about Sony and move on. Sony phones aren't even available in your country. So, you haven't even seen this phone and probably never will. Sony pulled out as nobody was interested in Sony phones.

  • Absolutely wrong. This phone is already longer and heavier than the competition. Sony has failed with this small battery.

  • For me, with the $950 or more price tag for a flagship device, the total battery life is average. And i agree they doing great for a 3300mah battery, with an excellent display. What i'm saying they can beat others if putting bigger battery. And your video link i saw it already, just showing Xperia 1 battery life, not a battery comparison with other flagship devices.

  • Why you are so weak debaters do not know when you are defeated, i obviously stated that even the battery won't go weak in my last statement, here you go again a real time battery test that proves my words.

  • How hard is to make a phone with dubbed duration time

  • Nope. Smaller phones can achieve more battery Mah even with bigger camera sensor, liquid cooling, speaker in display, wireless charge. Sony need to ditch those useless big dynamic vibration in order for a larger battery. For it size, maybe it can put 3800 mah at least. They got average battery life just by using small 3300mah due to good software optimization, why not beat others by putting bigger?

  • It would have been heavier thicker, and it would last a full day with at least 30% left juice when you put it on charger at night.

  • Imagine what this phone could have done with a 4000 mAh battery. Typical Sony, they will find a way to ***** things up.

  • The thing is, Sony phones are optimised to waste 1-2 % in 6 hr standby, most others phones waste 3-5 % in standby in same time. So its purely math.... in 24 hr Xperia wastes min 4% to max 8% battery, most others min 12% max 20% just in standby for a 24 hr period... Thats why Sony users get same SoT on theirs as some devices with bigger batteries, or more SoT than devices with same batterysize.

  • I khow youre kinda right... But from experience i would say that if youre using a sony phone that battary capacity that u mentioned is not gonna be a problem.. It may seem though but when u actually start using ur phone u realize that it really doesnt really matter cause sony can really handle it.... Even if those numbers dont add up.. 😁

  • Sony always have poor design. Big bezel and small display. Now with long ass screen? Removed radio n 3.5mm jack? Gl with that sony. Sony deserve to be bankrupt.

  • There is still lot of room to put logo in 1, 10 and 10 .. also still its not full-screen display

  • I agree my friend .. they are doing it because everyone is doing it, they need to understand that they will remain unique if they maintain their own style.

  • Its plain ugly

  • Because Sony and LG are dumb

  • I'm my opinion all these phones have dumbest battery capacity. Galaxy s10=3400mah+6.1inch QHD+ = 79h P30=3650mah+ 6.1inch FHD+ = 83h OnePlus 7pro= 4000mah+ 6,67inch QHD+ =85h Xperia 1= 3330mah + 6.5 inch 4k = 79h..

  • It wastes vertical space without any benefit. Better put the logo on the back.

  • why there no front logo ?

  • Xperia1 ALSO shares one 3840p dimension with UHD, which is also defined as minimal 4K res by industry standards, defined by 16:9 aspect ratio as standard. So in all actuality, it has the minimal requirements of 4K res in a 21:9 aspect screen. Therefore a 4K screen. If the same dimension would follow 2160p on a 21:9 aspect, mathematicaly it would go into 5K res area. Check the definitions, and check the claims section on Sonys own website.

  • You missed the part where they include the standby battery drain. And Xperia does excellent in that part... therefore the overall battery score.

  • Actualy, stereo speakers go all the way back to feature dumbphones, but as much as I remember, yes, Nokia had first dumbphone with stereospeakers. Sony made one a year later I think.

  • when you look at the web and video score you will see why people complain, The final score provided by GSMarena is not really accurate. The web and video score from xperia 1 is substantially lower than the p30 and oneplus 7. and this make sense because a 6.4inch 4k display is gonna drain so many power no matter how optimized software is.

  • Wrong. These phones are all water resistant, not waterproof...Anyway, Sony only copied, as usual.

  • Nope, Motorola Defy was promoted as water resistant while the Sony Xperia Z was promoted as Water Proof

  • 9 hours with the lowest brightness, still perfectly usable.

  • Blah blah blah... Dedicated camera button? Fingerprint in power button?

  • What obsession?? His debate technique is well respectful and rich in evidences with no offensive statements, your comments are pure personal attacks, i really wish this great site to become more secured in terms of comments at least in these smartphone user reviews threads.

  • Lol, 3840x1660 is not 4k. 4096x2160 is, a significantly bigger resolution. Sometimes people call 3840x2160 (as being) 4k and whilst incorrect (UHD is the correct name) it can be thought as a 4k, it share one deminsion with 4k (both are 2160p) 3840x1660 shares nothing w 4k, it is a poser.

  • Very long phone, why they did not put a big battery 5k or more ?

  • Obviously that means Xperia phones aren't featureless.

  • Pretty sure 2 of my old Symbian nokia phones had stereo speakers before HTC did ....will have to Google it as I'm mostly wrong :-)

  • Please stop lying here. Motorola Defy was first water resistant Android phone, Sony copied. HTC had stereo speakers before Sony, Sony copied. LG had 21:9 aspect ratio first and other brands, Sony copied.

  • I respect a battery with decent maH coupled with BatteryCare over any surplus of maH without Care. ;)

  • Smartphone batteries is supposed to be based on average usage, because it is the majority, basing the battery on heavy usage which is the minority is a big mistake, increasing the weight of the phone and thickness, messing with the mobility of the phone which a major thing in a phone for the lithium ion vampires is not wise, the key for these people is supposed to be the fast charging, nevertheless, based on your intels 7h SOT is still way more than average, i mean think of it, 7h/16 thats a lot of time to use your smartphone everyday, even Sony basher in the comment thread can't deplete it lol.

  • Define featureless, everytime Sony comes out with a new feature it becomes a trend or even standard feature next year, since the waterproof then the stereo speakers until now the 21:9 display which Sony is being criticized, the 21:9 is going to be a standard feature soon, copy my words. I do understand fanboys praising there brand and overdo it sometimes, but can't understand fanboys bashing other brands all the time.

  • Actually it does great for the capacity it has. More maH would be welcome, but I am surprised how much juice it got out of 3330 maH, for a 6,5 inch 4K display. Translates to about 6-7 hr SoT with casual use, just as some users reporting.

  • Sony, how about compact version? The size and weight is not acceptable.

  • Please tell me what is my beloved brand? ... Hint: not Hauwei or Samsung...

  • Another new name....

  • Go to a Samsung forum for your Samsung complaints. This is a Sony forum.

  • xperia is featureless. People expect more with that amount of battery capacity. Yes the camera is very good. But outside of the camera, xperia is very featureless.

  • Does it come with Swiftkey or gboard? Too said sony killed their keyboard, i love it.... I still use.

  • Galaxy s10=3400mah+6.1inch QHD+ = 79h P30=3650mah+ 6.1inch FHD+ = 83h OnePlus 7pro= 4000mah+ 6,67inch QHD+ =85h Xperia 1= 3330mah + 6.5 inch 4k = 79h.. Where are the people complaining about battery capacity in this phone? Why don't you go and complain about battery optimization in other phones.

  • 79h rating 25:00h call 8:57h web 11:10h video

  • 79h is same of s10. S10 has bit more screen area, but 1 has almost 2 million pixels more.

  • I saw that picture long time ago in gsma. And also in youtube. You better erase it or change it if you really want to hide. Actually no one will troll you, unless you start accusing bad to people first. Please learn from Tannie's fault. Dont be like him.

  • What colour do you have? Looks like purple is the most popular.

  • With those bundled quality headphones it is a bargain! Enjoy your Xperia 1.

  • Received my phone yesterday bundled with the headphones WH-1000XM3 and I have to say I love it. Great design and brilliant screen. Now I am not such advanced users that you are in this forum but for bloke like me everything is perfect!

  • My Xperia sealed battery still strong but my Samsung removable battery change many times. This is the Truth, sealed battery stronger than removable battey, otherwise is the quality problems.

  • I try my best lol. The truth is i never troll. Its based on facts & own experience.

  • Please don't troll me, this is why I hide myself as a submarine (my user photo is submarine)

  • Yup i dig the guy FB profile. Bunch of photography goodness. He's a pro for sure.

  • Ah vV5. Long time no see. With different username of course.

  • Either 8+2 or 10 bit your beloved brand can only produce 8 bit display just a 2 bit less and less smooth picture.

  • Mine does not have OIS ...... I have two options at night. 1) I can set lower ISO 2) I can use auto and let ISO goes up If I choose option 2, the results will be my fault not cellphone's .... If I choose option 1 results will be much better, from the same phone. So it is not processing, it is settings chosen. Always been since Z. Except Apple and Google all other have manual mode. If they offer, it is because they expect people to use otherwise only auto would be available. Using Night modes it is same of going to manual and setting the right settings. It is not auto.

  • Can't wait for some real honest reviews to show up here..

  • Unreputable?! Ahaha... Cant get more reputable than a proffesional photographer with this bio... Try again fella.

  • Your links are always from highly unreputable sources. Try again dude

  • Because 99% of people want full auto mode. Point & shoot shots. Most other brands do this and provide great quality. Only Sony is too stupid to realize this. Majority of my shots are done on the spot, so I want full auto and good quality. Not interested in messing about in settings. Leave all those settings for pro camera.

  • Both very average quality. Probably fake shots anyway, coming from you.

  • Night is a situation that wont trigger the Backlit Scene. HDR uses slower shutter compared to non-HDR shots. There is a risk of blur. People complain, why they still use just auto mode? Once you go to manual, choose settings you want they will remain.

  • Well this poped out on my fb feed recently: This one too:

  • Yes dynamic range is indeed improving, & Sony has to include their Auto HDR in low lights environment, as i believe its more to 'what our eyes see'. However i cant say its better than P30 or Mate 20 low lights capabilities. At least to my eyes. Will wait for more reliable deep reviews.

  • Xperia1 lowlight HDR photography sample (source with full res photos from the link I provided earlier) :

  • Sorry, but you are obsessed with Sony. That's the only polite way to tell you. Although you quietened down now compared to previous years, only due to Moderators control.

  • not bad..quite an improvement from previous sony devices. i still see it struggles with high contrast scenes. they need to work more on their auto HDR feature and a dedicated nighmode would be prefered. what firmare version did you have when you took the photos?

  • 1/8 and 1/16s wont have blur. And once person for example set iso400 + shutter 1/8s that remains saved until you change again. P20 Pro and Mi9 dont use OIS too. No problem being handheld. My point is that this is all about settings, not processing. If I set iso800 on a s10, photos will be trash. Not even Photoshop can save it. But it will be usable at iso250. Except few devices like P20 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20X, XZ2 Premium and OnePlus 6T/7 Pro can give you usable photos if ISO pass 800.

  • Can you show us a link to prove your comments about the volume ? As, Sony has a history of below average volume.

  • Here you go... HDR Xperia 1 lowlight shots: Excellent results, with much better dynamic range.

  • All phones support ldac since oreo

  • LDAC is made by sony and not used by other phones.

  • Yes, the loudspeaker is loud. It is one of the loudest and most detailed loudspeaker out there.

  • I think only you and your pals have issues. I m just a Sony fan searching for some actual truth and sharing it with my fellow fans here. But you and your oals, dont know whats your excuse, hanging here constantly, trying to hide the truth with lies and disinformation. I m hanging out here, not because I am obsessed with this device, but just because you and your pals are hanging out here too much also. This comment has multiple insults direcred at me, so it is reported.

  • Many hardcore fans still fail to acknowledge the overheating and battery problems that early Xperia models had.

  • Set lower ISO and end up with blurred images because of slow shutter speed? Your logic is weird.

  • Dolby Atmos sound over wireless too. Great feat. But Sony, 3.5 mm jack is still better.

  • Yes, a suitable name. I'm not a Doctor, but Tannie definately has some issues. How anybody can be so obsessed about one brand is beyond logic. I mean, he will lie, argue, insult people, use numerous accounts, provoke people, spend hours daily looking for YouTube videos that promote Sony, etc etc, in any manner trying to prove Sony superiority. Even proof from Sony's own website won't convince him....Very Sad.

  • It appears so, although not 100% confirmed yet.

  • I need a opinion about speakers. Are they are lound? Is the speakers have good quality of sound?

  • The devices usually choose LANDSCAPE when they detect trees and bushes. If you are taking city shots with only buildings and it is high contrast scene, the BACKLIT shows up. Or if you point it to the window. It wont trigger at night, because it is not high contrast scene. HDR at night can lead to blur if subject is not still.

  • No stabilisation stutters at all on 4k with H265 codec:

  • I just installed a new software update on my Xperia 1 with bouiltnumber: 55.0.A.2.278 is the 1 juni securty update i dont know what else is included in this update theire was no changelog the weigth of the update is about 323 mb

  • I dont know about lowlight HDR samples, and neither do you, as there are none made yet by any reviewer. This daylight auto/HDR difference sample from yt rev I found by lucky click on one of those numerous reviews. Tho the guy that made the stabilisation video tho, promised a yt video with Xperia1 HDRon daylight and lowlight pohoto samples. So stay tuned, if you interested in some actual HDR lowlight photos from X1.

  • My post is in english. Why did this post trigger you? It shows actual HDR capabilities of Xperia1. Its not my fault english speaking yt reviewers do a lousy job on Xperia1 camera reviewes, so this foreign language yt link will suffice. People have eyes to see, dont need ears to understand Xperia 1 HDR photo. Here, this will be easier for you then: Xperia1 auto vs HDRon photography sample

  • Again, you break the rules. Your first link in in some unknown language. What part of "English Only" don't you understand ? You are regularly rude here and insult people here. One of the reasons why you posts get deleted.

  • Now thats what i'm talking about. At least it looks excellent in daylight. And as i numerously stated earlier, Sony has to add more scene to be Auto HDR included, as its what our eyes sees. We see many shapes of clouds in daylight, not an overblown background mess as its provided on Superior Auto. As on low lights photography, Xperia 1 still cant catch up eventhough HDR turned on. For low light Videography, hands down Xperia 1 is indeed the best i've seen, minimal or no jittery effects at all, which is excellent. But sadly only on 1080p. 4k still suffers from bad stabilization. And about 8+2 bit display or real 10 bit, it still better than any competition as of now, which has to be credited. Xperia 1 is the best screen to date. But its not manufactured by Sony/JDI for sure. Either Samsung or LG.

  • The Xperia 1 has a 10 bit equivalent display (8 bit with 2 bit smoothing) From Sonys own offical website:

  • With all the lousy revs out there, one has to catch a bit data here a bit there about actual quality of Xperia 1 cameras So, actual difference between auto photo and HDRon photo quality on Xperia1 is available on this yt rev at exactly 4:00 min in: And actual stabilisation and clarity of 1080p lowlight video is available at this yt link:

  • Just to inform you correctly..... "The Xperia 1 has a 10-bit equivalent display (8-bit with 2-bit smoothing)" "8-bit with 2-bit smoothing, commonly referred to as 8+2 FRC (Temporal Dithering)." "8+2 FRC panels are considerably cheaper to manufacturer than a true native 10-bit display." "On an 8+2 FRC display, the image will appear to show more noise than what an actual native 10-bit display will."

  • 8+2 = 10 ...... It works same way of native 10 bit. Haters are envy because even for LCD devices Xperia have 10bit. While all other are still 8. Even midranges X and XA2 series have 120Hz, while other brands offer 60. Haters even say that is just touch response like iphone because they are so jealous and could not find better excuse. True is, other could have too, but they dont want to offer you. But charge like they were giving you. That is what happens when your favorite brand sells you phones with same screens Samsung used on J series. Cheapest oled they make. That has worse images than high end with LCD.

  • Indeed, for the P30 Pro. I was thinking about the Huawei Honor 20 Pro instead and mixed them up.

  • It's not true 10 bit, but 8+2, even Sony's own website clarifies that... please research more.... HDR+ was designed by Samsung and is becoming the Industry standard. Dolby vision is not HDR+, yes similar but different. How many times must this be said here ??

  • Haters seem so scare of possibility that it may be true. Because if it is, none of upcoming phones will increase that much from previous version. Mate 30 and Note 10 wont earn more than 2 or 3 compared to P30 Pro and s10 5G. Iphones wont even reach 109. Pixel will use wide + ToF or Wide + ultra wide ... No way it will pass 107

  • Huawei uses 40MP imx650, not imx586 ...

  • It is 10 bit ( but 8 + 2) HDR+ is just the version of Dolby Vision created by Samsung. Sony phones have BT2020 gamut. Much higher than DCI-P3 and can play 10bit videos. Any other device will compress to 8bit. 4K HDR of Xperia is HLG, not HDR10/10+.

  • They always do backlit portrait .... Person by the window against the sun.

  • The main camera is a Sony sensor, and captures more daylight detail than even the highly acclaimed 48MP Exmor IMX586 on the P30 Pro. Almost all other smartphone makers including Samsung use Sony sensors in their lineup. There'e nothing wrong that or the other way around.

  • Yeah, according to dxomark j2 pro camera is better than lumia 808 pureview...you kidding me..dxo is only referred to those who pay for it..thei results are hilarious..you want to tell me that iphonex and xs max rating diffrence is as much as 8 and galaxy 5g camera is better than s10 plus where there is no diffrence ever in both hardware or software...and since when sony uses samsung sensors are dreaming

  • DXO mark is a commonly referred standard. Sony scores low, because it's camera/video quality is lower than some competition. Accept the facts and just move on. Sony is now using 3 Samsung Isocells in the phone....Doesn't this tell you something. Sony failed with its own sensors, so has tried with Samsung sensors and also failed...haha, get it ?

  • It's been proven several times here, that this is only 8 bit, NOT 10 bit. Do you want the links listed again, including Sony's own page ? .... Also HDR is a lower standard than HDR+, that some other brands are using. Also 3 of the 4 camera are Samsung Isocell. Obviously, Sony is totally lost in the camera/video Dept.

  • Using fancy names has actually backfired on Sony. Just shows desperation and lies. The public are quite savvy these days about Smartphones and avoid Sony.

  • Hdr, dinamic range, 10 bits, blablah Ohh so complicated names. And with all of those names, xperia's camera is still worse than the competitors.

  • Popular yes, more creative definitely not. For ex, HDR video is a perfect example for that. Creator mode is for professional video creativity interested users, tho 10 bit hdr video it uses is not as popular as 8bit hdr, but is definitely a step above in tech and quality

  • DxO mark is unreliable. Im sure the HDR dynamic range photo was not tested, as it is not auto. Then again, they finally get points for portrait and zoom. Dont care about portrait, but that 5x hybrid zoom is remarkable. Tho for video it should get some extra high score from them, if their protocols are considered. Never the less, if this true, at least Sony started properly marketing again.

  • Chris is a true Sony fan but he is not the best camera guy. His banana shot on X1 is out of focus because it focus is on the wall, one tap on screen fixes that. In narrow venice streets he uses ultra wide camera on X1 instead of the main one like on the rest of the phones. Xperia 1 like any other Xperia phones does spot metering instead of taking in average brightness level thats's why non important area gets overexposed. That's just how it is and there are advantages as well as disadvantages to that, great for landscape bad for interior shots. For example on low lit environment where there is a spotlight Xperia 1 would show correctly a contrast between low lit area and hotspot from the spotlight while P30 or Pixel that have extreme contention of highlight would totally diminish the spotlight and kill any contrast on the scene. It looks like a evenly key lit scene which is not how it actually looks. Overall P30 Pro does better still photography than Xperia 1 that was to be expected but in outdoor daylight they are equally matched. When it comes to video nothing beats Xperia 1 right now. It's the only phone that can shoot ultra wide video with distortion correction, to make it a bit funny it's using Samsung sensor for such thing. It's 4K video is the highest bitrate I've seen so far, the amount of detail and color reproduction cannot be matched by P30 Pro or S10. 4K stabilization is suffering because of it there not enough processing power to do hybrid EIS/OIS stabilization. But if you switch to FHD recording you will be treated with the best stabilization on mobile phone so far. Take P30 Pro at night time and jump and you will see light smudging all over the place while none of that will appear on Xperia 1

  • This person is reliable. Last year he said Premium was going to be announced April in China. That happened.

  • First example Xperia 1 shot using wide lens while all others use main cam. There are many other better comparisons out there by people who know a bit more bout photography. Btw P30 Pro stabilizes better on 4k cause it has lower bitrate hence less cpu intensive, difference in details compared to Xperia 1 is night and day in favor of Xperia 1.

  • How can you be sure the scene was not overexposed? Do you think even FF show blue sky like some phones do? A site here used a A6400 for blind test , so people could see the right colour and exposure. S10, P30 pro, Xs and pixel 3 all got scene very different from the APSC.

  • It has 120Hz, not only touch like iphone.

  • Pubg players need high refresh rate of 120 hz n 120 hz touch response n above

  • Xperia 1 vs P30 Pro vs S10+ - Yup. Overblown highlight still persist on Xperia, be it on both daylights & lowlights, especially on high contrast scene, P30 blows Xperia 1 out of the water, even its HDR turns on. Low lights? Same old Sony. Not a lot can be comment. 4k stablilization, selfie front camera also flavours on P30 side (Again, Xperia front camera also suffer because of that overblown highlights). While Xperia 1 is indeed improving, it still cant manage to beat the best competition out there in the camera department. Some parts of it are indeed better, but as overall, it loses to the other two.

  • Someone on weibo that is sony employee said that. Also if you check xperia 1 page , only main cam has Exmor for mobile written. Wiki page of X1 has the sensores .... I think it is the same used by Samsung flagships and iphone telephoto.

  • Do you have a link about the 3 Samsung Isocell cameras used in this phone ? ... I imagine that will cause plenty of arguments there...hahaha

  • Yes, huawei it's the best in low ligth but the sony is not doing well especially since it does not have a dedicated mode in low Light. However in video recording sony is much better

  • The terrible battery life and overheating problems have been solved in recent Xperia models. And low light shots are better also, but not the best. This new model looks promising though.

  • "what your eyes see" means that it is closer to real scene, not about brightness.

  • Ultra Wide, tele and selfie are isocell. Ultra Wide and Tele are 1/3.4" ... Sony does not make sensor of this size. Just 1/3" and 1/4". I think they considered the size more apropriated to make modules equal thickness. IFA phone wont use Isocell. It is just temporary solution.

  • Xperia Premium always have lower brightness compared to lower resolution versions. It is hard to push brightness at this pixel density. It probably is around 500-540 nits. More than that will bring burn in earlier. If you check on internet, burn in happens more on QHD than Full HD or HD.

  • OnePlus 7 Pro was presented in May. That is why it has ufs3.0. Other phones that were presented before could not get ufs3.0 in time.

  • All you had to do was set lower ISO .... Less than 400. Phones without OIS will use higher ISO to prevent blur. Not software issues. In scenes that phones from other brands end up using ISO above 600, photos come out very bad too. Especially Samsung. You cannot compared ISO 200/ shutter 1/2s against ISO 800/ shutter 1/32s.

  • I also owned a Xperia Z5 and had the same complaints. I needed good low light shots for my work and it failed terribly here. Also, the terrible battery life and sometimes ran so hot that I couldn't even hold it.

  • OnePlus has ufs3.0 because it was announced much latter, just in May. Phones from february/march could not have it. Samsung was still making the chips. Not even s10 series has it.

  • UFS3

  • What? OnePlus7 pro uses usf 3

  • Got the phone for testing today and was VERY positively surprised: The OLED screen is the best screen I ever had, lacking only in terms of max brightness in daylight. It's beautiful. The cameras are color accurate and VERY good, this time even the software works out nicely. Ultrawide shots get automatically perfectly angle corrected, this is awesome. Less awesome: No 21:9 photos possible, despite the phone being in that format. And the lesser Xperia 10 supposedly can do that, it boggles the mind. The size is exactly the same wideness (7,2cm) as my Xperia XZ had, it just got lengthened. The fingerprint sensor is now dead center, and as it is is not so wide you can one-hand use it, you just have to shift your hand up and down a little. The size or rather length is a problem though, it might not fit in any pocket without problems anymore, at least not without sticking out more. Battery life seems superb, but have it only for a day yet. Screen should be brighter in daylight, but it isn't, same as my XZ. All in all a very sound phone, the camera is IMO better than that of a S10, but not quite Huawei P30 Pro. Doesn't overdo software color correction and all that. It has no notch, if you want a phone without notch this one might be your best option.

  • Previous Xperia Z5P owner, Sony camera bad in low light, 4k screen just waste of battery prepare to charge your phone like mad, 3330 mAh battery with 4k screen? is that a joke? UI .... Leave a lot to be desired. the only plus is it produce very good music with their ClearAudio+ & DSEE HX I yet to find any phone able to achieve that.

  • Why is Sony using Samsung Isocell cameras in this phone ? Are they better ? More MPs ? Wider lens ? Please, no Sony fanboy answers, as I am genuinely interested.

  • Low light shots has always been a problem for Sony. At present , P30 Pro and Mate 20 Pro are easily the best cameras....Unfortunately, Sony forums are always plagued by Sony fanboys. People come here to hear the pros and cons, but Sony fanboys will always say no problems and argue the facts.

  • No... the joke is the 1000€ price

  • what ? 3300 mAh for 6.5 inch ! is this a joke ???

  • Yes, both P30 Pro & Mate 20 Pro is still the low light kings in terms of photography for me. If the reviewer describe Xperia 1 low lights is 'what our eyes see', than thats it, its limited. Both P30 & Mate 20 can easily get the 'what our eyes see' as well by using Pro mode. But Xperia 1 cant achieve what P30 Pro capabilities did (excellent dynamic range, highlights preservation, great contrast & minimal color degradation). U cant just fight the hardware goodies on Huawei. Now i dont know how HDR mode on Xperia 1 results, but previous Xperia eventhough with HDR turned on in low lights, still cant catch up with the competition. I prefer the 'dramatic' & 'street style' low light photography than the 'natural' Xperia 1 provided. The way photographers winning an award, making ads, put photos on magazine using DSLR regarding low light pics are rarely just by using 'natural' images. Its been always edited to make it looks 'dramatic', 'brighten up' (without sacrificing quality), 'stylized' to become more appealing & 'tells a story'. Thats what Huawei's Leica camera intended at the first place. To each his own. I prefer low lights on Huawei phone & as of now no other brands made me interested.

  • Correct. The Oled screen is from Samsung. Although, I thought only the 48mp camera was a Samsung Isocell. Do you have a link for the 3 Samsung Isocell cameras used in Xperia1 ?

  • Sony uses UFS since XZ Premium. For flagships, of course. Probably 2.1, since there were units at MWC and ufs 3.0 was not available yet.

  • If it can go 120Hz when necessary, it means it is 120. At least it is not locked by kernel like all X series.

  • Xperia 1 has screen from Samsung. Xperia 1 uses UFS, whick means it was made by Samsung. Samsung is also the biggest supplier of RAM memory for cellphones. Xperia 1 has 3 out of 4 cameras using isocell. Only main cam is exmor.

  • It could be LG mostly, but trust me Sony doesn't get anything Samsung made, at least directly, since Samsung basically is a manufacturing facility for a lot of other companies.

  • Well nothing more laughable than you the trio Anonymous camping on this page dropping random negative comments and replies, have you read my comment carefully or the comment which i am replying or at least the related article, the statement of "true to life photos" didn't come from me it is the review or article we are debating about.

  • Had my UK version for a couple of days now, battery so far seems to be around 6 hours SoT before hitting 5%.

  • It is 60hz. 120 hz obviously activates through game enhancer performance mode toggle only, if a game supports it. Same as 4k screen res only automaticaly activates if content is actualy 4k. Both neat smart screen tech, that saves battery resources, and activates screen enhancements only when needed. No need for options menus and toggles like other.

  • I assume that it has UFS... right..?

  • When Sony Mobile orders themscreens, the manufacturer has to do according to what they ask. The LCD can be from JDi, LG or Sharp. But all have to do exactly same screen. And add the Quantum dots for wider gamut. XZ3 has Oled from LG, 1 has oled from Samsung.

  • Interesting, it does says on their Chinese site. That's cool of Sony, I hope they enable 60hz for basic tasks.

  • You should ask LG or Samsung, the makers of this 120hz Oled screen on this Sony phone.

  • The game enhancer concentrates all the games in one place. Play without interruption. Block the notification and choose to extend the battery usage mode to enjoy the game for a long time, or select the performance priority mode to boost the GPU and CPU. The game can be displayed at a frame rate of 120 Hz. Sony Mobile HK

  • Sony doesn't specifiliy advertise it's mobile phones, because they are so small in this segment. But Sony advertises it's name at major International tennis, golf, soccer games..e.g. Winbeleton, US masters, etc...Unfortunately, it's all too late for Sony. The competition has caught up and surpassed Sony.

  • Well, you can thank LG or Samsung for that great 120hz OLED screen. Sony doesn't any OLED screens for mobile phones.

  • I've never seen xperia ads in tv for many many years. And when i go to malls i only see samsung, huawei, and some other china brands ads placed on the billboards.. but no xperia. I live in a capital city, and i never see any advertisement about xperia. And there is a very very big bright screen placed on a building's wall near my office. I only see samsung ads played in the screen.

  • Add to that first 120 hz mobile oled screen, by statement from official HK Sony Xperia 1 page, which states: "The game enhancer concentrates all the games in one place. Play without interruption. Block the notification and choose to extend the battery usage mode to enjoy the game for a long time, or select the performance priority mode to boost the GPU and CPU. The game can be displayed at a frame rate of 120 Hz."

  • How do you know it's not fake? There is no face of presenter or phone itself.

  • XZ2P is analog low light specialist, probably the only one ever from Sony. With new management whole Aube development is most likely ditched and put on shelf. XZ2P is still the king of low light video and still the king of details in pitch black photography compared to computational photography of Pixel and P30 that smudge details like watercolor effect.

  • Another batch of real camera samples! This phone looks promising so far!

  • Even sony A7 R3 can't produce true to life images. Your comment make me laugh.

  • The 120 hz screen statement is back again on chinese official Sony page... So I guess it is really 120hz screen then. Some reviewer should really check that out with some 120hz game in Game Enhancer performance mode, RR3 or sth.

  • I was very hyped for this phone's debut. But then Sony Mobile announced that they're exiting the SEA market. DAMMIT

  • People complain about poor marketing. Sony Mobile invited many tech sites to Venice. I dont know if gsma has brought home a unit.

  • Yes, P30 Pro is still the camera King. That article also said ... “In less light, the photos from the Sony Xperia 1 become weaker in the details.” “Low light specialists like the Huawei P30 Pro or the Google Pixel 3 deliver technically cleaner photos here.”

  • Without Ultra High Sensitivity of XZ2P I was not expecting something different. Main sensor is 17% smaller. And no more monochrome. Lower ISO and 1/8s are not going to help. XZ2P samples of Gsma were iso2000 but still better than s9 iso400.

  • Let alone the stabilization, look at image quality, the dynamic range, sony nailed it this time!

  • Welcome to the Japanese tech, where small things does a lot.

  • Nice review, wait what, p30 still the king? Have you read carefully the article, it says although the 1 produces less sharpness and details in lowlight compared to some competitors but it is the only smartphone that manages to give exactly what you see, which would you prefer? A more sharper image or a true to life image. Unfortunately they uploaded no video of lowlight videography which is the most important part of the camera.

  • I dont even have to open that article to know HDR camera algorithms werent used for lowlight photography at all, right? Even tho Sony specificaly mentioned those alpha improved HDR algorithms for lowlight photography in Xperia 1 presentations multiple times. So of course the usual complaints about lights overblown, lower dynamic range... The usual nonsense reviews continue. Funny, same nonsense complaints do not comply to Sonys Alpha mirrorles cameras results Its quite understandable to toogle HDR on for those cameras, but for Xperias... its just uncomprehensable to do it

  • Xperia 1 camera review - Excellent daylight performance, average low lights performance (P30 Pro still the king), excellent video stabilization on 1080p mode (maybe the best). Sony finally understand the purpose of having triple cameras, unlike blind fans that defends its single camera on Sony previous phone. Cant wait for more reviews to come.

  • I dont know about that.... First Users reporting around 6 hr SoT. Same as, for ex, S10 5G users who have 4500 mah batteries. So, its quite good for that battery capacity. Quality optimisations matter.

  • Lol Xperia 1 versus Pixel 3 video stabilisation! it's just insane guys!

  • Apparently Sony optimises the phone really well and according to techspurt or recombu it comparable to Samsung s10+ battery (which is 25percent bigger)

  • These guys at sony simply don't get it. 3330 mAh of battery for this hardware is ridiculous.

  • Wrong, as usual. So, if a video doesn't say Sony is the greatest, then its fake to you ?

  • Lol u are too naive. Firstly, on February no reviewer allowed to take photos/videos on Xperia 1. The gsmarena only provides hands on review, no camera sample, not the full review, which will be coming anytime now. Secondly, those link u've given are definitely fake. I can tell it by my naked eye, each branded camera suppose to has each styles, color temp, & processing looks. That link was not. See his previous video, all of it were fake. Finally dont trust any camera comparison provided with no introduction, no owner face shown, no hands-on the device, unreliable & lame review. Especially those from Tech Town, Cam View, Smart Tech, etc. Those are definitely a fake camera comparison, only kids believe it.

  • Dude, there is a no review from GSMArena for until NOW, the question is, are you okay???

  • Wrong. That video was done on 25th February, which is the exact same date that gsmarena published its review of Xperia1. Meaning gsmarena did its review before 25th February. Do you realize how close camera quality of flagships phones are in 2019 ? Every flagship phone has great cameras now.

  • There is nothing bad about it except wrong format transcoding in 960fps footage. 1080p is still the resolution you want your videos at cause it can handle pan and tilt without dropped frames and jitter. 2160p is nice as long as you shoot still just like on any other phone.

  • Dude, you can't be faked that easily! This video is three months old, at least read the comments below the video.

  • Powerful screen like that, and a small ass battery! Lol No thanks!

  • Im really sorry, but It's really bad

  • Can you shoot better video on your phone or show us something better? Would love to see that.

  • You are wrong with sony software x1 has much better battery life than samsung apple or huawei.

  • Your honest review looks fake

  • Sony in 2019: .. Is Sony Playing catch-up ??

  • Omg it's so bad

  • Yup looks like it. However i love its camera algorithm way better now, look at the low light sample - Pics looks clean, natural, & eventhough some parts its not on par on some of its competition, it got some things to brag on now (All got it pros & cons). Seems like Sony on the right track, camera improvements are more significant now. However i dont know what happens to its 4k video stabilization, it has OIS for g0dsakes, yet shaky a lot. Looks like the software not mature enough.

  • To be honest that is one unreliable reviewer. All 3 cameras looks identical & by checking his previous videos, looks like a fake comparison. Theres no way all phones looks way identical results lol.

  • You still get the same non hdr auto photo, so you wont like it yet again. But there is always HDR toggle that does what you cherrish the most.

  • Here is a honest review between Nokia 9 Pureview vs Sony Xperia 1 vs Samsung Galaxy S10+. At 7.19 seconds, you can see the honest winner.

  • Yup, looks like Sony nails it this time on the stabilization, literally the best on low light recording with no jittery effects. So best stick with 1080p, i dont mind with that. The other aspects on Xperia 1 camera still remains a mystery.

  • Here, reason why its best cam to date:

  • 6.5 inch display battery only 3330 mAh ... Hi Hi Hi horrible worst phone main disadvantage of sony mobile - poor battery capacity. 6.5 inch display + 4500 mAh is just ok

  • Literally all phones with a jack sound average? What about the LG G and V lines? Almost every HTC with a jack in the past, the M8,M9,10... A bunch of Vivo and and Meizu phones with dedicated DAC and amp. I thought you would be some kind of harrrdcore audiophile but then you mention bluetooth. Aptx or not, I would take the headphone jack over those overpriced bluetooth headphones with high latency any day. Not to mention most bluetooth headphones are created for hipsters with fancy styling, audio quality is not their priority. All the well known audio companies are still producing wired headphones like this no-jack trend never happened. Bluetooth is still is far away from being taken seriously buddy.

  • Apparantly, the screen runs in constant 4K. Lets wait and see the battery life with only 3330 mh battery.

  • while 3.5mm is convenient, literally all phones with 3.5mm has very average sound quality ( apart from onkyo dp-cmx1) the dac and amp is designed not for sound quality, on the other hand, with aptx hd, bluetooth 5 (depend which headphones) or ldac, it simply sounds better than 3.5mm on literally all phones on the other hand, if sony made an audiophile phone using their walkman tech, it will sound awesome,

  • been to SG and most of them fond with apple phone, but ironically the most overprice and average phone is indeed apple.

  • What is so special in Singapore you say such statement?

  • I don't get it, they market it as a phone with a great screen for watching films, but they don't fit it with a deahphone jack? And yet charge a very premium price for it? As much as I admire the design of it (no "notch"!!!) as well as the potent screen, I'm sorry, Sony. For this price, and for this kind of phone, the omission of a headphone jack is a huge deal breaker.

  • I thought that this phone was just a rumor, but seeing the 3330mAh battery does not convince me

  • Xperia 1 video samples

  • Video is unavailable btw. I am contemplating for a superior camera performance this time from Sony, especially in this area exposure balance, where for me it is the only place where Sony been struggling hopefully they nailed it this time or it would be a bummer.

  • Mostly everywhere, go to any Sony website, Facebook, YouTube... Most statement you will find is "i want to buy a xperia but i can't find anywhere". Now xperia is only available in Japan, Europe, Taiwan, Hong Kong, USA.

  • That's great. Overpriced Average quality product shouldn't be sold in singapore.

  • U can be a fan, just dont be a blind one. Sure Xperia 1 using Zeiss lens now instead of their old G Lens. But Huawei flagship phones using Leica lens 'Vario-Summilux-H' for a very long time now. Thats why they produce sharp images. Even Nokia use Zeiss lens on most of its mid range & flagship phones. Earlier than this Xperia 1 does. Learn more before make any statement.

  • U can't find Sony Xperia mobile phone in Singapore

  • Backlit Scene is the HDR of Auto mode. But it activates when devices judges necessary. Phone usually gives preference to Landscape if bush or tree is detected.

  • It is 120Hz. It also has that same military certification like LG phones.

  • Haters are jealous because the module was made by Zeiss not just branded like we see on HMD and Huawei phones.

  • Some photo and video samples from 15m:16s. Hoping he's a bad photographer as there's quite a bit of overexposure on day shots and it seems to make a mess of the lady's hair in portrait mode. It's struggling to balance the light on those signs during night shots at the petrol station as well. Would really like to see some side to side comparisons with the big boys, to see how it fairs.

  • Geekbench 4 3515 11159 Xperia 1 is the fastest 855 phone to date

  • First in-depth review AnTuTu 327200 Screen just like OP7 in 90Hz mode shows no sign of PWM which is great considering it's 60Hz

  • The screen is capable of 120Hz, but not available in stock form. You must root the phone and use a custom Rom that enables you to unlock the kernel, etc, etc. Anybody been successful doing this ?

  • All xperia flagships since X Perf are 120Hz , it is not touch response like iphone. Even few midranges are. Go to google and type : XZ Premium 120Hz XDA

  • No headphone jack? Just making things unnecessarily limited. C'mon SONY!

  • As a person that use a lot of Sony Xperia before, Superior Auto does triggered Auto HDR when some scene detected. But its very limited, only when 'backlit' & 'landscape' icon triggered the Auto HDR. Take Google Pixel & Iphone XS for example, the HDR is more intelligent thus providing great dynamic range pictures. As for my current Mate 20, the Auto HDR is less than the two but using image stacking more, thus still got great dynamic range, better than Sony does. Xperia 1 has to improve their Auto HDR, especially on low lights (previous Xperia Auto HDR causing smooth image & washed out colors).

  • Backlit means auto HDR to you ? ... hahaha, you are joking, right ?

  • Link please ....

  • Now I'm lying… Lol I'd say that I'm teaching you something instead ;) I'm currently using an XZP for example. When I open the camera app, and don't touch anything (as you say) in a bright contrast scene, I have a little sign in the bottom left corner of the screen where "Backlit" is written. This refers to HDR with Sony phones. If it's not Auto HDR I don't know what it is… Now, I agree that not all pictures aren't taken with Auto HDR, that's because it is "scene detection activated", which is something done automatically (without touching anything, or magically if you prefer). But if you still think it doesn't have Auto HDR, that's up to you ;)

  • We need high refresh rate of 120 hz n 120 hz touch response n above

  • Finally a real camera comparison between Xperia 1 VS Huawei P30 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro!!

  • Heres a simple specs comparasion. Samsung Galaxy S10 plus VS Sony Xperia 1.

  • BT2020 is colour gamut. Way beyond DCi-P3. HDR10+ from Samsung is same of Dolby Vision. It just belongs to Samsung.

  • Scree comes from Samsung , not LG ....

  • Amd yet, I have. It arrives on Thursday.

  • GadgetBoy already has an unboxing video...

  • Clearly, you have problems in English comprehension….my quote below… “Sony Xperia 1 is using HDR10 bt 20.20....An older standard with a slight software update from August 27, 2015” Let me help you understand English. The older standard is HDR10 bt20.18, but Sony is using a slight software update called bt20.20…do you understand now ?

  • Sony Xperia1 uses HDR10, while Samsung S10 uses HDR10+ "HDR10+ works differently than HDR10. It sends dynamic metadata, which allow TVs to set up colour and brightness levels frame-by-frame. This makes the picture look realistic. HDR10 aims to produce 1000 nits of peak brightness, whereas HDR 10+ supports up to 4000 nits."

  • Sony Xperia 1 is using HDR bt 20.20....An older standard with a slight software update from August 27, 2015 Samsung S10 is using HDR10+...The latest hight standard from April 20, 2017. Again, I challenge you to prove me wrong, Mr Sony Fanboy.

  • "the Xperia 1’s 10-bit screen equivalent tonal gradation (8 bit with 2 bit smoothing)" That quote comes from the offical sony page, so I challenge you to prove me wrong, Mr Sony Fanboy...... "https://blogs.sonymobile.com/2019/05/02/xperia-xplained-everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-xperia-1s-tech-specs/"

  • Firstly, Xperia1 is using a Oled display from LG…..Sony/JDI/JOLED don’t make mobile phone Oled displays. So, your comments about Sony OLED Master Monitor are totally false. Its not a true 10 bit display, but a 8 + 2 bit smoothing display. “The Xperia 1 has a 10-bit equivalent display (8-bit with 2-bit smoothing) that Sony says can display a myriad of colours without banding. 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing, commonly referred to as 8+2 FRC (Temporal Dithering).” “On an 8+2 FRC display, the image will appear to show more noise than what an actual native 10-bit display will” Sony Xperia 1 is using HDR bt 20.20, but Samsung S10 is using HDR10+, so S10 is using a higher level of HDR. There are other phones available with more features for the same price or lower than Xperia1. Plus better warranty and back up service.

  • Xperia 1 unboxing & first impression - 21:9 screen ratio looks really good and camera seems promising.

  • I've previously owned iPhone and Samsung phones but I have to admit, from the perspective of watching entertainment on the go, Sony Xperia 1's specifications blow other phones out of the water such as Samsung S10, iPhone XS, One Plus 7 Pro etc. I will definitely be upgrading my phone to Sony Xperia 1. Let's deal with the FACTS. I've tested this phone yesterday at the following shops O2 & Carphone Warehouse in the UK and there are absolutely no signs of heating/overheating. Furthermore, due to the efficiency of the processor, it will not eat up more battery. The Snapdragon 855 is built to handle 4K HDR video playback hence the efficiency of the processor and Snapdragon (Qualcomm) has confirmed that the Snapdragon 855 processor sucks up 30 percent less power while playing 4K/60fps content when compared to the SD 845. Most people don't realise that you don't need more than 6GB of RAM of their phones. Anything more than this is simply overkill as you won't be utilising the other RAM. Sony Xperia 1: 10-bit display (meaning it can display just over 1 billion colours) and fully unlock the potential of 100% DCI-P3 + BT2020 (partially). Competition: 8-bit display (meaning it can display just over 16 million colours). Even if the product has HDR 10+ certification, it cannot unlock the rest of the colours due to the 8-bit display limitation. Sony Xperia 1: - Has 100% DCI-P3 support along with BT2020 and D65 White Point to reference better/accurate whites. - Each Sony Xperia 1 has been tuned to the Sony OLED Master Monitor which costs approximately £35,000 - £50,000. In an interview with Naoki Matsubara (Sony Display Engineer), he states that while OLED looks beautiful, from a film perspective, it did not have that 'film' tone before calibration hence why they had opted to calibrate it to the Sony OLED Master Monitor. No other phones can come close to the Xperia 1 period. The display specs even beat iPhone XS MAX which costs approx £1,400!! A whopping difference of £550!

  • Sony phones don't have Auto HDR. Stop lying here. Auto HDR refers to automatically starting HDR after tapping the camera app button. Do you understand now ?

  • Can you prove your comment ?

  • first hands on review

  • You're telling me to understand “missing features “, but some of the features you're describing as missing about the 1, it does have… It has Auto HDR, Power bank option, etc. Also I never said you wanted an S10, simply that if it corresponds to what you need m, then get one, simple! But if you're convinced to be right, nice for you.

  • They are doing the trump's way. If you cannot win it, then ban it.

  • You're wrong about somethings. Xperia 1 is using HDR bt 20.20,but s10 is using hdr10+, so s10 is using a higher level of hdr. Neither sony and Samsung have a 3D TOF camera(just in s10+ 5G).power delivery 2.0 is useless, because sony didn't make a pd adapter charging yet. Play station apps is available for all devices, even in iPhone. In other comment, you said you like to use sd card. Sd card is so slower than internal storage, so most of users wont use a sd card. You're Paying 1000 EUR for a phone. That's too many money, so its better to buy the phone that has more GB of ram, bigger storage, better Camera performance, better battery endurance and with more features. It's just waste of money to pay for xperia phones that they can't keep up with their competitors, like its mid-ranger 10 and 10 plus.

  • Actually Xperia 1 has Sonys OSS, as in 5 axis optical stabilisation system, present in Alpha DSLR cameras and Sonys proffesional video cameras. It also has 18 watt fastcharge, not 15 watt. And yah, it definitely stands out in camera department, just for its unique pro level OSS stabilisation, VENICE Cinema Pro video recording, and Alpha camera quality photo algirithms. It has realtime video background blur(portrait) ability too, just as their proffesional video systems, sth other phones do by lousy software implementation only.

  • Who cares about Samsung phone pages. This is a Sony forum. Go and talk your rubbish in a Samsung forum, if that excites you. Another Sony fanboy said these missing fatures wern't on any other phone, so the S10 was just an example.

  • well same goes to s10 where some of the feature of xperia 1 is missing in it, 4k display 10 bit hdr cinema pro eye AF 21:9 display play station apps 3d camera 5 axis EIS dynamic vibration system qnovo charging power delivery 2.0 and so on, but you dont see people here go every single samsung phone page and talking rubbish right ?

  • Wrong again, as usual. There is a dedicated button for google assistant, bixby or almost any preferred option on S10. It looks like you don't even know what you're talking about when it comes to understanding "missing features" on Sony xperia1. You need to re-read my comments as I never said I wanted a S10. It was just an example to prove you wrong. But here is your quote, and I have proved you wrong. At least be man enough to admit it….. “good luck to find all of these missing features in one phone, because as I said, every smartphone lacks some features.”

  • Sorry, but I have to tell you that the S10s don't have an IR blaster for example… They don't have a Google Assistant button either (at least there is the Bixby one, which can be remapped finally!). It looks like you don't even know what you're talking about when it comes to "missing features" as you like to call it. If the S10 does correspond to what you need, then go and get one, that's as easy as that!

  • Sony xperia have bezzels because there are people who prefer bezzels over ugly notch or holes in display.

  • Xperia is always overpriced without any special benefits

  • Ok.Go then and buy and use those..Don't waste OUR time here...

  • English must be a 2/3rd language for you, as i was talking about T-Mobile only.

  • Please tell me what is a lie.

  • It does have all att bands. The same as OP 7 pro has what I'm using right now typing this post

  • Troll just get out of this page. We got tired from all these stupid lies like this post

  • All those listed missing features on Sony Xperia1 are ALL available on Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ (snapdragon version).

  • The Pixel have large bezels for 2019, the 1 ones are ok, not the thinnest, but certainly not the worst, without a notch, a punch hole or some fragile motorized mecanisms. Xperias have Auto HDR, it's called "Backlit" when using Superior Auto (which is, you guessed it, the full auto and default mode with Sony phones). It activates automatically when it thinks it needs it (thanks to the so called "AI" nowadays, which has been available on Xperias for at least 6 or 7 years). And again, power bank option is here, since the XZ Premium as far as I know. You plug something into it, and you'll be able to choose to charge the thing you plugged into the phone. Now saying that the camera button is obsolete is kinda strange, as a lot of people want one. That's part of the reason why manufacturers make it possible to take a picture with the volume rocker for example. But, good luck to find all of these "missing" features in one phone, because as I said, every smartphone lacks some features.

  • get some other brand then

  • You dont use VR, but I do. Got a 15 bucks VR googles really immersive with 100 degree view, PlayStore is Sonys VR Store, and of course Xperias support VR. I played Sinister Edge VR just recently on my X Performance. Even 1080p is quite good, cant imagine how good 4k 90/120 hz screen of Xperia 1 would look. Modern phones with screen cutouts arent any good to enjoy VR properly, user get a big black blur on their VR googles.

  • Odd aspect ratio. It looks and feels like a some kind of a remote control - very tall and narrow. Miss the good old 16 by 9 wide screens.

  • Sony Xperia1 has large bezels for 2019. -i will take some bezel over water drop, notch, samsung floating camera, rotating camera, flip camera, pop up camera any day. NO Auto HDR mode (auto means auto after tapping camera app) -really ? probably it can be enabled going to manual mode, just cost u an extra few second. Small battery running constant 4K screen that will guarantee terrible battery life (major fail by Sony) -yet to be tested, but if it is still getting 72h like xz premium, then i am more than happy because it can last me a day. No headphone jack -can't think of any famous flagship phone that still with audio jack other than samsung and lg. No 32-bit/384kHz audio -no going to be big difference other than for audiophile even 24bit is good enough, what it lacks is a good sound recording in audio. that is most of the smartphone weakness, lg has the best audio recording. No FM radio (available with SD855 chip) -ya so does any other freaking flagship phone in the world (except lg and samsung and samsung just for USA) No dedicated google button -another few second extra to turn on in your freaking phone. No Reverse wireless charging -wireless charging is a extremely inefficient tech and all the energy lost as heat which will in turn reduce the battery life, i seriously dont see the point of wireless charging. also you are creating more junk like charging pad, induction coil, regulator and so on. No Infrared port -so does any other freaking smartphone (my galaxy note 4 has it, lg v10 too, but no longer has it in 2019, missed it) No 8/12 gb Ram -ah, the bigger the better right ? nope, xz premium with 4gb ram i cant even max it after 30 apps on the background. No 256/512/1TB storage -nope, i prefer micro sd, that is why i have 512gb micro sd from samsung on my xzp, only my spotify loading in the internal memory because they will always get deleted in micro sd and that is just around 16gb. No dual video call -as in skype ? i hardly even video call, might be useful to some people but definitely not me. No Fast wireless charging 15W -again, garbage tech, unless you can pick up sunlight or in door light to charge ur battery, not really impresses me No more colour selections -as in hue, saturation, gamma ? or in professional mode, director mode ? or super vivid mode, natural mode etc ? No Power bank option - u meant casing act as power bank ? so does other freaking phone. No Sony mobile VR headsets -i dont use vr doesn't concern me, plus a 6.5inch display in front of ur eyes so near that u cant even glance the whole screen at once. plus if i am watching video sometimes i will pause and go back to look again for detail, imaging how hard to do it on vr. No Sony VR apps -no vr support of course no vr apps, but they do have 3d image, ar support No Sony VR store -same as above No International Warranty -since sony moved out from a lot of country, when you import a phone it will be certainly on seller warranty or no warranty at all, the important thing is to find a dealer that willing to ship back the phone to sony to repair if any fault, and also same goes to any other import phone. Lacking bands for T-Mobile, USA - this apparently just a USA thing, in malaysia, i yet to see a phone that cant support the local telco because they use the common band at here, getting 50-100mbps on my 4g+ here Useless/Obsolete dedicated camera button that only causes blur in photos. -blame on ur shaking hand, lol. anyway, just dont use it if you dont like it, that is for underwater shoot anyway because when underwater your screen cant register any touching sense

  • who cares? I love this phone, is different, is Hi-tech, and I like bezels of xperia 1, because it's easy to watch movies or to play games.

  • Sony Xperia1 has large bezels for 2019. NO Auto HDR mode (auto means auto after tapping camera app) Small battery running constant 4K screen that will guarantee terrible battery life (major fail by Sony) No headphone jack No 32-bit/384kHz audio No FM radio (available with SD855 chip) No dedicated google button No Reverse wireless charging No Infrared port No 8/12 gb Ram No 256/512/1TB storage No dual video call No Fast wireless charging 15W No more colour selections No Power bank option No Sony mobile VR headsets No Sony VR apps No Sony VR store No International Warranty Lacking bands for T-Mobile, USA Useless/Obsolete dedicated camera button that only causes blur in photos.

  • Hey Sony, remember the good Xperia Z5; top camera, FM Radio and 3.5mm jack.

  • s10e hahaha :"D

  • sony pls launch good some display ratio like s10e ,Google Pixel 3a XL and also performance

  • Always complaining about bezels… Auto HDR mode has always existed since the Z, when shooting in Superior Auto. The bigger battery doesn't always mean the better battery life, Sony often proved to be one of the best in this regard. The lack of FM radio is primarily due to the lack of its support from the SOC. Instead of the dedicated Google button, you get a two stage camera shutter, for a camera oriented device, nice! Reverse Wireless is even worse than normal wireless charging, such an energy waste. The amount of RAM doesn't mean that the phone will perform better. Remember when OP introduces the 3 with up to 6GB of RAM but it still killed background tasks becaue of poor RAM management? Power bank option is here at least since the XZ Premium. For a 1000 dollars smartphone it's still a pretty complete package. Every smartphone lacks some features.

  • I was wondering.... How the heck does one use up on 128 gb storage, or 6 gb of ram on a phone? Here I am with a 32 gb phone and a 32 gb sdcard (64 gb total), I ve got 10 gb of music (and thats a lot), 5 gb of photos and video (about 1000 shots n videos), 7 gb of movies, 10 gb of apps and games (about 100 extra apps and 30 games, heavyload and simpler), about 1 gb of documents... and still have 20 gb free space in my phone, after 2 years. Just cant seem to fill it up.... Now I know there are some heavy, heavy users having big files for music and movies, etc, but... How the heck does one use total 128 gb of space? Let alone 256 gb, 512 gb, or... 1tb?! About ram also? here I am having 3 gb of Ram, and only here and there, about every 10th opened app restarts in multitask, and that only if I have open 2 heavy graphic games in background, along with my browser, mediaplayer app, ytube, etc.... I wouldnt even know how to utilise those 6 gb in total. I guess I d have to open 30+ apps in one instance running in background. WTH for would I do that? It would drain battery resource like crazy. So I really dont dig what the heck do people think they re getting with 256/512 gb and 12gb ram devices? A dead load never to be actually used in their 2-3-4 years of using it, but just for bragging rights? Im interested in honest peoples opinions here. Sans casual trolls, they ll lie anyhow. If there is indeed someone with not enough space left on their 128/256 gb device, wht have you stored in there then?

  • Pre ordered it last week with the Sony WH-1000XM3 included. I tried the 10+ to see how I liked the wide format and I have to say that I was very pleasantly surpriced. I liked it. And since I always wanted to have those headphones it was a no brainer for me.

  • Lol i hope they don't do it quailty > Storage. Samsuyng gave you 12 gb and 1tb memory because it woudl be s9 with diffrent display XD

  • Hey Sony, its 2019. Remove the giant screen bezels please. Some IMPORTANT missing features on Sony Xperia1. (a $1,000 phone) NO...... Auto HDR mode, bigger battery, headphone jack, 32-bit/384kHz audio, FM radio, dedicated google button, Reverse wireless charging, Infrared port, 8/12 gb Ram, 256/512/1TB storage, dual video call, Fast wireless charging 15W, more colour selections, Power bank option.

  • I 100% agree with you

  • But that's clearly not true tho, is it.

  • well sony battery is stronger thanks to it's software so 3000 mAh sony is better than 5000 Mah Samsung or some other common brand.

  • 6.5" 21:9 = 5.9" 16:9" Screen area

  • 3330mah battery for that size? come on sony

  • Absolutely Wrong. Samsung was one of the pioneers of mobile VR technology, perhaps the largest. Samsung has its own VR glasses, VR shop and VR apps. Sony has NOTHING. “History. Although the Samsung Gear VR consumer edition was released in November 2015, Samsung had obtained a patent on a HMD (Head Mounted Display) in January 2005. ... In 2014 Samsung partnered with Oculus (the creators of another well-known virtual reality device, the Oculus Rift) to help with the development.” Sony has No Mobile VR headsets, No VR shop, No VR apps. Sony must use a third party for all its Mobile VR. Even Sonys playstation VR headsets use Samsung screens, but require 2/3 cables and are NOT portable. Sony is still years behind in mobile VR technology

  • We need high refresh rate of 120hz n 120hz n above touch response

  • You should re-read my comments as it was about Z2 & Z3…Nothing about XZ premium. Its not my job to educate you, but here is a link from BBC about self cracking Sony screens. At 2.20 secs, It reports the UK Sony complaints hotline Some other well documented problems.

  • Can't wait to preorder sony xperia 1 it will beat samsung, google pixel, and other apple phones in photography and camera performance also best screen on the market. There are no ugly notches or black holes in dispaly and no aggresivly curved display! All i need is xperia 1 ^^.

  • God please no notch :D

  • sony xperia 1 will be top 1 camera phone in 2019 it will beat note 10 and google pixel 4 they fixed all their mistakes from past because they have to.

  • That true. Sammy pretty much killed its GearVR usability with bhole screen. Notches dont help either. And this has neither, and a 4k screen too. For VR stuff, cant get better.

  • Yah, it could be Xperia 10 on a gimbal. But if it is, then 10 is one great midrange cam for lowlight indeed

  • It doesn't say it was taken from Sony Xperia 1? You assumed it was taken from Sony Xperia 1?

  • There's no such thing as overheating issue or pressure from the UK government (where is the proof from a reliable source?). I've tested my friends Sony XZ Premium and found that the battery stays at a steady 30-31 degrees Celcius while the processor stays at a steady 35-36 degrees Celcius. This is normal temperatures. Water Damage? His phone is fine unless people stupidly took it out to sea when it says don't use it in the sea? It is very clear to see that you despise the brand.

  • It's too good that they didn't release this old camera spec and software mobile phone now we can get many awesome mobile phones in low price

  • I should wait until July 12 to see reviews. I have nothing more to say

  • Yup it just says 2019 Xperia. Could be Xperia 10 series.

  • It doesn't say Xperia 1. It says Sony Xperia. And that's it It could be Xperia 10, 10+ or L3

  • HAHAHA, Definately a Sony Xperia showing its terrible low light video. Some much blur and discolourization. Who would buy a Sony after viewing this video....

  • Good stabilized low light videos with no jittery effects as others did. But highlights still overblown as classic Sony, means still not a great dynamic range. Well i'll hold the full judgement until its come out.

  • Japanese folk celebrating the long awaited Xperia 1 commercial release. Recorded with Xperia 1 auto mode: :D But seriously tho, the recording has some amazing stabilisation and autofocus

  • Did you catch the news? Sony's US Instagram account posted this the other day: "We're excited to announce that the Xperia 1 is launching on July 12 at Best Buy, Amazon, B&H Photo, Focus Camera and other participating retail outlets. Xperia 1 is both operable on GSM networks and certified to work on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Xperia 1 will retail for $949.99." Too late and too expensive IMO.

  • as usual, sony is never listen to the customer and keep making a heavily overpriced phones.

- Sony Xperia 1: 10-bit display (meaning it can display just over 1 billion colours) and unlock the potential of 100% DCI-P3 + BT2020.

  • Wrong. Its all over the internet. Google self cracking Sony screens, overheating, water damage, bad low light photo, low volume, wifi problems, etc, etc, and hundreds or thousands of listings about problems with Z2 and Z3....Sony refused to admit these problems for years, but after pressure from UK and Holland Govts, eventually conceded and even had a hotline in UK.

  • i hope sony will finally implement Notch so you can change your mind again

  • Wrong, Sony Z2 & Z3 was the best of Sony, it is the Sony's highest peak. Z4 (Z3+) was a failure with heating problem, Z5 was no different. Ever since then Sony started failing behind competitors.

  • The point of 21:9 is entirely for VR purposes. I believe it is what movie theaters use. While you're eyeballs should be 18:9, the eyebrow and checkbone restrict visibility, causing 21:9 to take up the maximum field of vision for the average person. The fact that this thing has the new snapdragon 855, is OLED, and it's competition has adopted notches with wider aspect ratios, makes it the best VR phone on the market right now.

  • Sony Z2 was a failure. 33% had Self cracking screens reported, bad battery life, terrible low lights shots, failed waterproofing. Thats just a few common complaints.

  • The competitor is very boring because notch eyedrop and punch hole will take turns become elapsed , I mean they will hate it even more in someday. Sony know the design. My Z2 still looks nice even after 5 year of usage. It has unique magnetic charging port , dual front speakers added hidden notification light in between the earpiece, and the iconic power button and dedicated hardware camera button. It really stand out from crowd and exceptional, it accompany me create great moments and memories...

  • Of course. I had serious doubts about that aspect, but changed my mind after presentations. It seriously has more pros than cons. It s a new industry standard, so the rest will follow.

  • LG Chocolate BL40, released in 2009, had 21:9 aspect screen ratio. Also Acer Iconia Smart and Oukitel U18 have 21:9 screens. “So what does a 21:9 phone offer over the competition. Practically none. Majority of content available for mobile devices have been formatted specifically for mobile screens, specifically 16:9 ones. Even the new 18:9 fad has not yet changed that status quo. And since the 5.85-inch display really only has a resolution of 1512*720, that means you’re limited to 720p HD content as well.”

  • Wrong. Xperia1 is a true 8 bit with added 2 bit temporal dithering. That is NOT true 10 bit. "The Xperia 1 has a 10-bit equivalent display (8-bit with 2-bit smoothing) that Sony says can display a myriad of colors without banding. 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing, commonly referred to as 8+2 FRC (Temporal Dithering)."

  • Motorola One Vision has 21:9 display. So I guess Xperia 1 is not weird anymore to trolls.

  • It's true 10 bit

  • I love the Xperia’s 4K oled screen and everything, but the battery is is too small

  • You need to re-read my comments. I clearly said "Also Xperia1 is only 8 bit with a added fake 2 bit software. Numerous other brands are also doing 8+2 bit." Again, numerous other brands, NOT other mobile brands! Please read the link more carefully as the quotes are there. Not my personal quotes. Xperia1 is a true 8 bit with added 2 bit temporal dithering. That is NOT true 10 bit. Your answers and proof are all there. You just don’t want to admit it.

  • While some parts of it i agree, i do wish they has an option to make it 1080p on default, triggered 4k on media, pretty much like XZ Premium. While u may not notice it on videos, 12mp resolution photos can pixel peep to full extend in 4k. I myself saw 2k screen phone maximum sharpness level my eyes can see. Even my 65" 4k TV viewed from 2 metres lol. But technologies improvement are always welcome. Pretty much like 21:9 screen ratio. I love it. Big multitasking view with full cinematic video experience. Even when Sony first introduce 16:9 screen phone people call it ridiculous back in days, then all of them follow afterwards. But it must do in the right ways, make it full bezelless like Oneplus 7 Pro so the height can be controlled, and apply full screen gesture instead of the Pill gesture.

  • I clearly asked you, why did you claim temopral dithering is fake somehow, and what other mobile brands use it on their screen tech. As I suspected, all I got from you is a couple of opinional fictional answers not at all replying to my questions.

  • There is no pros of 4k in that tiny screen and it hurts battery life.

  • Here is the answer you requested ... The Xperia 1 has a 10-bit equivalent display (8-bit with 2-bit smoothing), commonly referred to as 8+2 FRC (Temporal Dithering).” “but almost all of the major panel manufacturers are now doing this.” “8+2 FRC panels are considerably cheaper to manufacturer than a true native 10-bit display.” “On an 8+2 FRC display, the image will appear to show more noise than what an actual native 10-bit display will.” Source:

  • Here is a quote from your link, dated 4 April 2019. So, JDI is NOT yet supplying Apple watches with Oleds. And certainly NOT making any Oled screeens for phones yet. "Reuters says that JDI will supply the OLEDs for Apple from its current small-scale pilot R&D line. Apple is currently selling around 10 million Watch devices per year. Even though not all of them are the latest generation, it is not likely that JDI will have enough capacity - so it is likely that LGD will remain Apple's main OLED smartwatch supplier."

  • Let's wait and see. Very simple

  • That is still a mystery, because we talking about 4k OLED screen here, the first on a smartphone.

  • It does not mean that LG supplies Sony with Xperia 1

  • Thats a good idea. Some XZ3 user should check that out. Meanwhile, Xperia 1 screen maker is a total mystery atm. But could well be even JDI, as suggesive from this news: If they can supply mobile oleds for apple, I see no reason why not for relatively low supply Xperia needs

  • This source says XZ3 screen is indeed from LG OLED - Current OLED maker for smartphone now is either Samsung, LG & BOE. LG is likely the one using on Sony. JDI OLED do not goes into market yet & maybe late this year. Or u can just simply ask any XZ3 user here to use the 'Device Info HW' app & check the screen manufacturer. My Mate 20 using JDI IPS LCD screen.

  • Yeah, that is what is stated in those articles Although, I ve seen a couple of teardowns of XZ3, and for the love of God, coudnt read out the display makers name. No LGD anywhere there. Also, could you share a link to LGs, or Samsungs 4k 21:9 actual mobile display product link? I seem unable to find any whatsoever. You know... lets be entirely factual here.

  • You dont deal in fiction do you? Quote: "Also Xperia1 is only 8 bit with a added fake 2 bit software. Numerous other brands are also doing 8+2 bit." What is factualy fake about that 2 bit you mention? Name a few of those numerous other 8+2 bit brands? Reply With reference facts please. Im eagerly awaiting your fictional answers.

  • Here is some info that answers this common question. Who makes the 4K Oled screens for Sony smartphones ? LG Display to supply Sony with pOLED displays for future smartphones LG Oled is used by Sony in its Xperia XZ3 flagship.

  • And please tell me what brand am I a fanboy of. I talk the truth and deal in facts, not Fiction. Truth is, that I have never been a fanboy of any brand, and never will. I don’t own a Sony, Samsung, LG, Huawei or Iphone. Also Xperia1 is only 8 bit with a added fake 2 bit software. Numerous other brands are also doing 8+2 bit. There is NO 10 bit in any phone at present. Please stop lying here. Also Joled doesn’t make any Oled phone screens yet. Again, please stop lying here.

  • Its quite funny when an obviously jelaous fboy calls others fboys. Dont worry, yours favourite will get 10 bit too... in a year or two.

  • LG, or Sammy, dont produce 4K mobile oled screens, or even 10bit(8+2 bit) oled mobile screens. So I ll play the Devils advocate a bit here.... Have you any actuall proof other than vague fanboyish "could be" random articles from the net, that the screen of Xperia 1, or XZ3 even, is produced by LG, or even Sammy? As far as my logical guess goes, it could very well be made by JOLED.

  • Yes, its quite funny how the Sony fanboys are bragging about the 4k Oled screen, that is made by LG. In fact, Sony only makes one single part in its phones, and thats the camera sensor. All other parts are made and provided by third party sources.

  • sony used lg 10bit oled screen !!!https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_could_supply_oled_panels_for_sonys_next_xperia_flagship-news-29369.php

  • is not first world’s slenderphone but, X1 is slenderphone actually !!

  • Because people think iphones are tool of high social status. High marketshare of Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo is because of their low ends. People in India buy only Redmi. No matter if they still use old components like micro usb. They dont care the fact xiaomi phones have high SAR.

  • Today i was in a mobileshop and tryed out the New Xperia 1 for some time and i was very impress the bild quality was top notch and this phone frels very comfortable in the palm of your hands sadly i coulnd try out the camera becourse of the low batterylevel the battery was 2 % which is to low but still som very impressed what i saw and the price includes the Bluetooth headset and here in Norway the Xperia Cost about 9400 nok the price okay i will buy the Xperia 1

  • start making again XZ1 Compact, its better (good battery life and good to hold in hand or pocket) than these new ones.

  • I have still my hopes with Sony brand. Have my XZ1C and its just marvelous smartphone except of that s***ty camera. And I mean really baaad camera. I did make some good pics in really good light but in general, Xperia´s cameras are bad. Hopefully the Xperia 1 will just surprises us with the camera. If the camera will be just average I think it is going to be one of the last phones made by Sony.

  • Totally agree, sony should avoid useless features and ugly designs, and that can not be done without firing all mobile phone department team. Sony should think why is apple, samsung, Huawei, xiaomi and other has better successful phones.

  • Maybe because of price :)))) with such price of Mi9, they will think like: Well, with that price and premium specs, something must be cut down. 3k mah is OK

  • Please show me some proof to support your statement. As I don't agree. "At least 1/4 people can know, there are many people learning Mandarin."

  • Finally clove uk have updated stock date 30th of may!!!

  • At least 1/4 people can know, there are many people learning Mandarin.

  • Your link was in Chinese, so nobody could understand anything. Please be honest here.

  • Lie

  • Sony has improve heat dissipation and the design is wise and better for heat dissipation, I think I have post the link on here and you just don't want to know it. The 855 also less heat and save battery.

  • Very true, my Xperia XZ2 overheated easily....Never buy a Sony again.

  • The Xperia UI Android 9 using Pill gesture, not the full screen gesture. It depends on people's preference. For me, a big phone that nowadays has, full screen gesture is perfect. Using 3 dots u have to stretch your hand, or change palm placement in order to go to bottom to tap it (especially Xperia 1 that has tall display). Using fully gesture are more user friendly, one handed usage without reposition your palm.

  • I live in a very hot country, and have had the XZ Premium for nearly 2 years now. The only time the phone overheated was a during the Oreo update when I left it accidentally under the sun. Sony phones since the XZP don't overheat no more, at least it's very very difficult.

  • Sony needs better heat disapaction as its phones always overheat.

  • The Xperia UI android 9 lets you choose between buttons and gestures. I prefer buttons. Why would I swipe if I can just clickone button?

  • Phones which screens are 8bit, part is missing and iphone design?

  • I have link to show the sourse of information, can watch the link here, the design is very good. Please watch from the duration 6:03 to 7:00

  • I don't know, why sony can't make phones like Samsung &Huawei .I think that was big mistake from sony to buy Ericsson.I like sony I want to have sony phones

  • im excited for they 2k@120hz monitor(gaming mode)

  • The AI side sense have settings to adjust the longer swipe and sensitivity areas to makes the job done.

  • There is no phone that worth 1000$+

  • This flagship is worth it. I was comparing the batteries. Mi9 is not compatible with Sony.

  • because...one reason ,Xiaomi are not charging you 900-1k$ for it....

  • Why don't Sony make a phone with really thin bezels I don't get them. Don't they wanna make money don't they wanna sell more phones? I wonder if their worried about the phone not looking Sony enough if the bezels are all thin. This company has the tech and design their probably more smarter than Huawei yet their letting Huawei beat them in the technology world something Sony have been in for years. Come on Sony release one phone with thin bezels atleast and watch your market share increase dont be stubborn like NOKIA and ignore market forces then lose control of your business.

  • I have no comments about Sony Side Sense as never use it. But most of the reviewer they accidentally open it a lot by mistouch, and immediately turn off that feature. What so hard about gesture navigation? Its a 3 steps only. Edge swipe to left to go back if your right handed (swipe right if left handed), swipe from bottom to home, swipe from bottom & hold for recent task. Thats it. I master it less than five minutes on Mate 20. Definitely not going back to old school 3 dot navigation. Suddenly my big Mate 20 doesnt feel so big after that one-handed gesture used. Thats why Android will ditch the Pill Gesture, its kind of useless when u still have back button & has to stretch your hand to tap it if the phone big or taller ratio, kills the one handed usage. When Sony follows, i know suddenly u'll love it. And i'm always keeps my mind busy, life as an Architect by the way.

  • AI side sense is much better and intuitive without remember some of the gesture, AI side sense show the usually used apps, swipe down the side sense also can go back last page and when in camera double tap side sense can trigger the shooting button. It also can turn off or makes two sides edge work with it. Android's Gesture should have a choice to turn off or edit the settings, it get benefits if doesn't need too much gesture to remember, probably less than 5 gesture are my recommendation. If 10 gestures setup it makes mind busy.

  • The camera split the components into two part, the heating also split into two sides and the heat dissipation go to the camera modules because the triple camera modules have heat dissipation designs and made from heat dissipation material.

  • Why did they move the camera down like that? Having the lens at the edge (as in the older models) is a great feature to get pictures in tight spaces (have you ever tried to use you camera to look under furniture, for instance).

  • Sony has done this failed tactic for about 10 years. Announced a new model and then wait 4/5/6 months to be released to the Public.

  • I really wonder. Mi9 has 3300mah and no one complain and it has Endurance rating 95h. Why so many complains on Xperia 1 about battery life.

  • Curse you Sony!! Why do you take such a long time to release this phone? People all over the world are eagerly waiting for it and there is not a single news from the company regarding exact date of release. Come on!!! At least just give us a date so that we can plan whether to wait or jump to another brand.

  • As i numerously explain before, base on my own experience, theres no way Mate 20 & P30 series oversaturate the colors. In fact, they are the most muted/natural colors on a flagship phone nowadays. Gone are the days oversaturate image like last P20 Pro. XZ2 Premium & XZ3, S10, Pixel 3 are more saturated than Huawei does now. Contrast on Huawei are higher (not as Pixel does with crushed shadows), but maintain without white clippings & retains highlights. I'll take the dramatic image than the dull result as Xperia does. Been use to Sony & Huawei, i'll lean more onto Huawei's Leica imaging. Again, to each his own. And i always send as document in Whatsapp if got good quality image with no compression going on. Yup Sony Engineer said about the HDR improvement, but i would not believe it until final results emerge (dissapoint by their mouthtalking & ad before). While on the other news, Android Q will ditch the Pill gesture & replace it with full screen gesture navigation, just as Huawei does now. Means that Sony will follow suit with their Android Q device. Seems like they agree that big phone or tall ratio phone works best using gesture navigation, when u said otherwise. I know u'll love it when Sony implement that gesture.

  • I can't wait to see Xperia 1 Pro. Please sony release it faster

  • After doing a lot of stalking on this phone and digging on Internet it seems to be available 17th of may.

  • Those competitor's HDR tend to shift the color, it isn't the good HDR because it shift the color like 'avatar' especially the AI camera from Huawei. I have see many sample from Huawei recent phone, their AI color algorithm is far from natural! The true to real life photo should not have oversaturate color and over processing highly contrast, it makes the image looks over-processing, while the over-sharpening is a bit hit or miss, I see the image is very sharp in WhatsApp. WhatsApp, the app always scale down the image and tend to lost some of the sharpness, so Slightly added sharpness maybe should be fine. Sony camera software engineer say the real HDR should keep the same EV and retain the more details/texture, I can found the sunlight/spotlight area have retain more details and actual colors in day and night scene and it doesn't lost the detail or shift color like those competitor. Source:

  • Of course its not the same camera, therefore the cheaper price. At least its the same camera hardware as last Mate 20 Pro, with more advance RYYB sensor. The duo Mate 20 is flagship, duo P30 is flagship, trio S10 & Iphone Xs (R) is flagship. P30 lite is the mid ranger of P30 series. Honor top end will always cheaper than vanilla P & Mate series, share some high end items, therefore called as 'flagship killer', a direct competitor to Oneplus.

  • I'm my opinion P30 isn't enough for me to be a flagship. And the camera is not the same as P30 pro has

  • Both P30 & P30 Pro are flagship. P30 just a tone down on the Pro version. Both are flagship in terms of performance & camera. Pretty much like Mate 20 & Mate 20 Pro, Galaxy S10+, S10, S10e. They are definitely not a mid ranger phone.

  • P30 is not flagship. P30 pro maybe is

  • Finally. Xperia 1 brings HDR improvement when other competitors already done it for years. Hopefully a lot of Auto HDR triggered on a selected scene, especially low lights, so it can looks 'Avatar' world when u describe about other excellent device. That scene on P30 video? Yeah a bit overblown on the background as its focus on the foreground. Not being a nitpicky, but overall results is still great & flagship worthy. Theres a Honor 20 Pro leaks just now, which has Sony IMX586 with OIS, 48mp 1/2.0" sensor size, 1.75 micron pixel size on pixel binning 12mp. That hardware alone a lot better than Xperia 1 smaller 1/2.6" sensor size, measly 1.4 micron pixel size. Software a different story though, cant wait for both results. -

  • Ipad has 120Hz, iphones do not. Almost all Xperia from X series have 120Hz as long they have at least 1080p screen. So, even XA2 has 120Hz. But is disabled by kernel, because it spends more battery. XZ2 Premium uses 144Hz WRGB LCD ( Xperia P was first WRGB screen).

  • I've used both of them. Both are great in their own ways.

  • Yeah, it was removed, but was clearly stated before, I ve seen it myself too. I dont know about oleds max refresh rates, but some kind of hz upgrade for gaming will definitely be in the Game Enhancer app of Xperia 1. Pfff, oleds... I am still an lcd fan here.

  • That vv5 guy, I dont even know or care who that is, is not the subject at all. DxO is.

  • You still love lenovo?

  • To the zhao min who don't read the full Comments. 3D memory is my ex-Gsmarena's username too, it is VV5 too. "Everything is changing since the Dxomark adopt new protocol policy erroneous tendency to iPhone new dual camera sensor trend." Conclusion Dxomark changed the ratings by adding Bokeh and Zoom to help iPhone score higher. It is bias enough!

  • Actually, in both hong kong and taiwan announcement, they mention about 120hz refresh rate on supported media. but anyway unless it is launched officially then only we can test it. they even said the screen is made by samsung ? if it is true then samsung display with 120hz it would be funny to see samsung is not using the 120hz display on their own phone

  • Tann, Actually I looked into this and it's not right. If it was on the Sony China site, they removed it because OLED phones can currently only go up to 90 Hz, not 120 Hz. Only the older LCD (pre-XZ3) Xperia flagships phones had the 120 Hz "option" starting with the Z5. So again, that is prob why they removed it from the website, cuz it simply wasn't true.

  • VERY interesting! So what app is that? Game Enhancer?? What is the official name? Is it available on Play Store????! I wonder if getting that app will actually enable 120 Hz?!!

  • Ask your friend vV5. He "was" the one who said that long time ago.

  • Actually "you" where the one who "said" that. I just "copy & paste" from your old comment without making any modification. See? Now you change your mind just because xperia lose dxo's test. And about samsung, i dont know. Btw.. are you trying to shift the topic? Dude.. you should stop blaming samsung for all sony's failures.

  • Most of the flagship camera have software update to get better photo quality, so Dxomark quite a lame site for smartphone camera review because they don't test it again after the new software update. The best way is to have the phone yourself and experience it! Ah! I remember Ifixit also a 'standard' just like the Dxomark, they teardown the Samsung Fold X and mocking it is a 'butterfly' with no bias lol.

  • HDR on Xperia One has the maximum improvement, the engineer say the real HDR should keep the same EV and retain the more details as you can see this link from duration 13:13 to 16:24 Source: Watch the Huawei P30 Pro capture no detail on the window, start from duration 1:11 to 1:14 and the glass roof also lost the detail and blow out by the glare. Source: Are you still Sony fans!? It is hard to earn some Kudos from you, but you just simply give it to Huawei, I have to say.

  • Screens are 120hz since Xperia X, but disabled by software, yes. Anyhow, it was seen on Sonys mobile Xperia 1 official China page, under gaming features, stated clearly as "applicable 120hz mode for gaming through Game Enhancer app", but was since then removed. Dont know why exactly. A post from reddit with the link was: "On the official HK-exclusive Xperia 1 product/promotional page, there's a mention to 120Hz gaming. If you scroll down you can read: {lots of chinese bla, bla, bla} Which translated roughly to: Game Enhancer centralizes all games to one place. Play without interruption. Block notifications, and either use Extended Battery Mode to enjoy gaming for longer, or use Performance Priority Mode to boost GPU and CPU performance. Moreover, you can display games in 120Hz. "

  • Woah woah WHAT??!!!!!!! lol From what I've read, several recent Sony phones have a 120 Hz setting. However, it's been disabled by Sony and the only way to enable it again is do some added stuff that may or may not require rooting, etc. But I checked the official page for the Xperia 1, and I don't see it listed anywhere.

  • 3330mAh? Is this a joke on high end phone and only 6GB RAM while competitor offers 8GB RAM?

  • "Extensively"?! Well it obviously depends on who is paying for those tests. For ex, iphones, P20Pro or S9 were extensively tested for review, about 30 pages review read , but Xperias since long ago have about 3 "extensively tested" pages of review read in total. If thats your idea of extensive testing, you need to catch up on metering and scaling.

  • Of course it has, Xperia 1 has 120hz screen. It is stated on the official page of the device.

  • iPhone X, XS, XS Max and XR has not 120hz Screen Refresh, But "120hz Touch-Sensing". In apple Product only iPad Pro 2018 with 120hz Screen Refresh.

  • Iphone xs max, xs,xr and razer phone have 120hz and asus rog phone, nubia red magic 3 have 90 hz, n sony, why u don't have that feature, that's features is very very important on mobile devices, this is smoothness of the phone

  • Which part u didnt understand? Told u already its a codec issue & an update patch definitely will fix it. And i'm both Sony & Huawei flagship user, talking base on experience & facts, definitely far from just a blind fan (usually they praise newer phone that they doesnt even own, whereas in real life, just using mid ranger/entry or even a very old flagship, that didnt aware any updates on todays tech), which i think i talking to one.

  • You keep defend Huawei eventhrough Huawei doesn't announce any official update. If you tell me you are the Huawei fans I won't be surprise.

  • Yeah right u dont care yet u are the one who's questioning about it in the 1st place. Keep denial. And i've mentioned before its a codec issue, which no problem if u dont use any 3rd party video conversion. An update will fix it out anyway.

  • DxO has extensively analyzed the image and video quality of over 9,000 cameras, lenses and mobile phones. These analyses are used by top camera manufacturers, media and help power DxO software. DxOMark provides free public access to these results to help guide your camera and lens decisions. Learn more.

  • No, I don't care about it. What I mention is the scenario way different, so you can't take it as the reliable sample..The reddish issue still not solved yet unless Huawei themselves announce a new update not provide by Huawei's fans.

  • What do u expect? A portrait mode on a 21:9 cinematic video lol? Whats the difference it make? Do u agree the video i give doesnt have reddish tint on daylight? And of course there are various timeline on it, its an edited video with a lot of cut off with additional background score.

  • No. 1 in DxO? That means a lot of Sony fans will praise DxOmark again & call it the best photography test score in the world lol, forgetting all the low score on previous Xperia.

  • And Night Mode is not intended for a natural look purposes. It shows how good the camera algorithm is to see things in the dark & low light photography skills imaging. Eitherway, P30 Pro Auto without Night Mode still the best low light camera today.

  • Night modes make photos look fake. No way at night Sky is that blue like the jersey of Chelsea or NY Giants.

  • Is it going to be launch in India 🇮🇳..?

  • Sony's sound 🔊 is the top one perfect amazing incredible sound not the loud speakers.wow wow wow

  • People dont trade essential stuff with fancy stuff. Night mode is the biggest innovation in mobile camera last year, this years is optical zoom, They are all solve the biggest problem in camera phone. But its not about the presence of night mode. Its only about how good its low light capability, if there is no night mode but low light photography is good, so its good. The same with eye af and hdr mode, no need point given, eye autofocus is only autofocus, its about how good it is. I agree dxo should take 2 photo for xperia, one with hdr mode one non hdr, and takes the best of two for reference. Or maybe they already did it, i heard in hdr mode it produce softer image. For optical zoom in my opinion it deserves a point. Its like if its not there, absolut loss.

  • And I m not at all saying that DxO should adapt their protocols to Sony phones, or Sony should adapt their camera app to DxO protocols. Dxo house... DxO rules. But DxO claims testing, and as far as Sonys, or some other OEMs Camera app or photo/video quality... DxO has no reference validity .

  • Nonsense. DxO is not at all reliable. HDR algorithms are computational photography. It is a vastly flawed test when two phones having HDR computational capabilities are tested and scored entirely differently, ie one with HDR algorithms and the other without them, and then scored for exactly what HDR enhances, like photo dynamic range, etc... Or scored extra for ones phones extra features, and other phones features completely ignored in scoring. Cinema App or 10bit HDR video, or Eye autofocus ability, is for some people as valuable as 5x optical zoom or night modes on others. BUT, one set of features are included in scoring, the others are not. And then they make a TOP list of phones scored by these entirely circumstantial methods. Its a flawed, unfair test... And those scores obviously depend only on the damn camera app design, or whether that app provides only automode with HDR, or just only certain features applicable only from the Camera Apps auto findviewer. By its new "protocols" DxO tests obviously only phone camera Apps, not camera photo or video quality capabilities. So their testing is, either seriously flawed, or needs a title banner "We test Camera Apps, not camera photo/video quality". If you cant see or accept the problem in all this, Im just sorry, but it is what it is.

  • Well.. like vv said, dxo is not the standard. Actually, the main problem of sony's mobile business is not only about camera. So even if sony won dxo score, most people would still choose the other brands.

  • Dxomark isn't the standard it is a reference site only don't treat it as a final result, because most of the flagship will come with software update to get better image...But Dxomark don't test it again. So it is not trustworthy at all!

  • Yes, DXO is the standard. Many photos that I take are on the spot/action style and/or in low light, so no time to mess about with settings. Auto functions are the way to go. Don't know a single person interested in these silly, unnecessary, extra functions. Professional shooters need these expensive Professional cameras.

  • According to a post on weibo, 1 was about to be new #1. But the video score (I suppose default is 1080@30), is much lower than other phones. So it is not going to be #1. Revoew may be out in 3 weeks.

  • X Performance ended up as #2 in 2016. 88 points like S7 and Htc10, while Pixel had 89.

  • Yes. Since the Dxomark add the Bokeh and Zoom everything has changed, the full score is now exceed 100!? Can you believe it? This two features can only makes higher score what's more? About the Bokeh, do you like the AI's blur background or the blur effect base from the actual aperture, I think it depends on the photographer and individual, but which looks realistic without added artificial. The zoom in is a feature that help us zooming/get closer to the object, just like the Ultra-wide-angle is a feature too, it help capture more objects in a short distance but why don't include to the ratings? Just adding more and more features the rating will become higher, but they added selected features only and the strong/artifical bokeh is way too far from reality... weird it get higher rating. Ridiculous!

  • Watch the video links but it doesn't show in portrait captures, it all passerby. That's no the same shooting condition too.

  • Ahh... i remember that day. Back in that day, vV5 was the greatest defender of dxo. I remember when i criticize Z5 camera and he got very angry because of my comment.

  • I believe you did take great pictures with it, but samsung and huawei can take much greater pictures than yours. You like it or not.. Dxo is the standard. Companies who don't follow standard always lose customers.

  • My Xperia Z2 doesn't get a great rating, but I can take great photos. Do you still trust the Dxomark!? It is for kids they don't know how to use a camera phone

  • Hmm ok. I had the Z3 too. Still one of the best phones I've ever had. X Performance as well. That phone was just mehh. Def not a great Sony phone.

  • This P30 video has no reddish tint issue, and it has RYYB sensor. - Its been confirmed as a codec issue, when uploading or convert video on 3rd party apps. (For example using Lightroom first, then upload to youtube). There are various discussion on XDA about it.

  • If i remember correctly, starting Xperia Z1 to Z5 Sony has the top charts in Dxomark. X Performance got no new camera algorithm up until XZ1, same old look image quality. Samsung S6, S7 & S8 top the charts after Xperia Z5 which is no doubt, its low light & video recording on that time simply the best on its class. Pixel came forward on the top spot after that, which dethrone by both P20 & P20 Pro later on.

  • Very well said. We the general users don’t understand much about pro mode. We want a phone with direct point and shoot. The end result should be a better photo. That’s it. If Sony Coeria 1 delivers it then fine otherwise again people will reject it. XZ2 premium had all the perks of a good camera but couldn’t stand in the competition for this reason.

  • Wait, WHICH phone scored well on DxO?? lol I don't remember that!

  • Guys, why criticizing so much brands or specialized websites assessing a smartphone feature? DxO is pretty reliable. I am not a specialist of pics but when I read their tests on the phones I use to own or the one I own now, I see a lot of factual points. There is no doubt that Huawei and Samsung got the best cameras outta there. That doesn't mean that others are crap, just a level below. Tho, Xiaomi is making a lot of progress and DxO underlines it. Sony is not that bad in cameras (from some friends feedback and pics I've seen) but still noy at the level of Huawei or Samsung despite great hardware. Their problem is the software and let's see how they improved it with this Xperia 1. If they did, it could surprisingly reach a great score in DxO (and even in basic factual opinions).

  • A few years ago, a Sony phone scored well in DXO and all Sony fan boys said how great DXO was. So now, when Sony scores badly, the Sony fan boys say DXO is crap ! DXO caters to 99.9% of users who only want auto functions and point and shoot camera. Nobody is interested in learning all these silly, unnecessary, extra functions. Every other brand realizes this, except Sony. Nobody is disputing the Sony camera quality, But again, 99.9% of users only want auto functions with point and shoot photos and videos.

  • From what you said I conclude we cant expect a new software. It will only bring some stuff like eye af, optical steadyshot and some neat trick in videos. Some test said with hdr mode it results softer image, so it doesnt help, stop blabbering hdr. And i still dont get why they mention AI, if its really there it should make it easier. Its about how to manage hdr, when hdr should kick in like when it detect backlit, plants or when it should br holded back like in perfect daylight scene. And i think Its better to have a trick with exposure for low light. Dxo still the best, in this site even nexus 6p better XZ3. Now its finally a flagship camera set up in x1, we can expect low noises, better bokeh, better stabilisation. but without updated algorithm i guess it will score 95.

  • Yeah, so do I. And I ve given examples here what a difference it makes for Xperia phones when HDR mode is on... Its blatlantly seeable in Xperia 10+ review here, where they made a daylight shot with HDR off, and with HDR on. But never cared to do that for lowlight shots also, so we got only HDR off lowlight shots. And guess what the revs comment on that was, "highlights are overblown, dynamic range is low, those are barely usable..." Well, YAH, turn the darn HDR on for higher dynamic range in lowlight photography samples then, fella. Every other phone is doing it automatically, Sony isnt, but that doesnt equate to actual lowlight photo quality it can make, doesnt it now? So, no, its not problem in my basic knowledge, or Xperias camera problem, its actually in "testing protocols". And DxO ones are the worst, or most basic to say... And DxO is always a reference for ranters here, unfortunately.

  • And DxO tests phones by protocols exactly favouring those kind of phones. Funnily enough, DxO became popular by testing professional cameras tho, not phone cameras for a common simpletone. Anyhow, I dont see the complicated professional stress in hoovering your thumb over HDR toggle, or Cinema App icon, to test those, if you can already stress your finger enought over Portrait or Zoom toggle. Seems DxO staff have serious problem with thumb movement when testing mobile cameras. So, I must stress out here, Its not me thats lost on basics, but DxO protocols and mobile scoring. Many people already noticed these flaws, search yt with same inquiry and listen the multiple justified opinions about that.

  • Sony is the top performance android phone but not the camera, stylish, gaming but sony have a powerful cpu, gpu.sony device need to transform into a people choice device.

  • I can manage to take with my all middle class Xperias top notch photos, of course with certain differences and with certain settings or apps. While Dxo is stuck on factory camera sending very subjective interpretations. I am avoiding that booth crap engineers that sell lies over the place! Xperia is special in every using way!

  • No.. Its because their new RYYB sensors result very different colour. They needed to change the algorithm to make it as close as their color sience, but still not close enough. Thats why they never talk about daylight photo. For now for color accuracy p30 pro isnt among the best. if only it is, it will score maybe 116 in Dxo..

  • You have forgotten the basics. This is a Smartphone, not a professional camera. 99.9% of people want auto features, point and shoot camera with great quality. If Sony is too stupid to realize this, then Sony deserves low ratings and its sales will suffer. This is one of the most basic business tactics.

  • Probably. But I am certain Dxo will dimnish that argument in favor of the competition, because as always... they wont test and score the Xperia video quality by the Cinema App or applied 10 bit HDR, nor photo quality by HDR applied algorithms, cause their flaved protocol tests, you know, just out of the box camera. Even the Eye autofocus needs to be toggled on, so dont expect test points on that either. And Sony doesnt use HDR algorithms by auto, like all other competitors. So, you know, if a camera app doesnt apply HDR automatically, as far as DxO is concerned, you re in for a lower "score" automatically. And those HDR off/on differences are enormeus, as Xperia 10+ samples here have shown. So get ready for circumstantial DxO scores, without any CineAlta or Alpha camera features included into the score. And get ready for the usual rants about camera here.

  • Because it shorten the development period to rush into market, it save less but unfinished more.

  • Definitely best camera phone for 2019. Weird delays, maybe testing software. Most Xperia devices are now receiving new system upgrades. Make.believe!

  • I would wait for the Xperia 1. Better software, and prob better camera too. Def better screen!!!

  • Check the photo quality in this link: ( launching footage in Taiwan probably ) Looks way better than P30 Pro. What Sony is doing for last 3 months? Why so long waiting time? Unbelievable!!

  • Appeared on Amazon Germany. Out of stock yet. The price is 949 €.

  • I just found out that weird reddish thing on P30 Pro video caused by their codec issue. Thats why some people on youtube post it still look reddish, some looks normal after upload, and thats why i think its been fixed. (looks like 3rd party apps video conversion conflict). When play using the phone, it looks normal. There are various discussion on XDA about this issue, u can check it out. But for sure it will be fix on an updates. If u want to talk about unfinished software, there are many problems on XZ2 premium rgb+monochrome image conversion not tally & creating ghosting effects. P30 Pro by miles are overall better than any Xperia right now, except maybe Xperia 1 later on.

  • Wait first, then compare by professional review. By that time, maybe P30 Pro will be cheaper.

  • z5 best phone still using z5

  • 120 hz n above

  • P30 Pro without any question.

  • Should I wait for this or buy P30 Pro? Highly confused.

  • I am sony xperia fan.I have used sony xperia s,sl,m,l,z3 and still using sony xperia z3.This time sony have taken wrong strategy without headphone jack and radio. They have to bear haevy loss for this silly decision.

  • yes. one of the main sources of sony's problem was their previous old ceo. i heard now they have recently changed their ceo. Lets see what will he do.

  • We'll see what happens.

  • not good. i see too many noise in the edge of the objects.

  • I think when the Xperia 1 launch into market the next new phone is nearly to be announced. Make compare and don't get RUSH.

  • Nope it's not like that. The real reason of the long delay is because sony can't afford to release it faster. They lack resource to do that. You cannot compare sony to huawei and samsung. Both are bigger, richer, and also more powerful.

  • initial samples of the Xperia 1

  • Sony, please go back to Z5 good times and have all in one package. Good camera, FM radio and 3.5 jack!

  • Release Date ; First week JUNE

  • I don't agree. They should do that stuff in a timely manner the way EVERYONE else. This delayed release sh*t is the worst! I've ALREADY seen ppl online admit they wanted the X1, but instead went and bought the S10+ because they got TIRED of waiting. Two months should be the MAXIMUM waiting period for a phone after being launched. The whole point of selling phones is to make money. But when you wear out your customers' patience by keeping them waiting too long, you're NOT gonna make as much of a profit, and therefore everyone loses out, but ESPECIALLY Sony.

  • Huawei P30 Pro red man weird color haven't solved yet but the phone was launched. The Shui8 told me it has been updated but he can't even send a trusted link. Why Huawei too RUSHing to launch a unfinished phone? Can you explain? The MWC Sony show up the new technology for the Xperia 1, the launching date is the finalised product means before launching they can hear the comsumer feedback and have time to do the optimisation, I think it is a better solution than RUSHing like a mess.

  • Makes sense. I just wish they'd release it already! lol I love my 6T, but man the X1 looks INCREDIBLE!!

  • Nah man. The Note 10 will come out in like SEPTEMBER (or August??) with the 855. The 855 is the processor chip for 2019, so in no way is Sony behind AT ALL. The X1 should be coming out within a month or less as they said Late May for global release.

  • The big lesson here is "dont be too proud of yourself". You can watch it from one of the videos shared by someone here. Back when sony were still successful company, people often said "why sony devices are always overpriced", but the old sony ceo said "we are selling gold". Now sony's competitors can sell good quality phones (even with more features) and with more affordable prices. Customers leave sony and find happiness with the other brands. That's why sony's profit is always shrinking.

  • Cost cutting. Announcing it in mwc is the cheapest solution. Holding a dedicated even like sammy and huawei did is too costy, invites media, influencer, provide hundreds device to all of them to try. So they rush it, the device is not ready yet, they still make some revision.

  • For now their skills is only raising the number, and applying their tech from other division. 2K, 4K, 8K, or 48 mp, 60mp, 100mp, 480, 960, 1920fps. Underdisplay fp require huge money to develop, for hardware and software, unlike screen they can just order it applying their tv tech, android already has all the software support.

  • Since Sony realise xperia 1 has been 3 months,so snapdragon 855 is old now, when soon other company's like Samsung will come out with snapdragon 865.I don't think Sony will do ok with selling the xperia 1.I always use latest Sony phones but in 3 months time IPhone 11 is out,and Sony hasn't realise the phone yet.Sony is loosing costumers working like that.

  • No. lol But ppl kept pressing it, so I felt I needed to make sure. Sounds like a stupid idea anyway as to me, how do u get MORE "Pro" than a 4K HDR OLED screen??! lol

  • Did you actually believe that BS?

  • Ok so I guess the Xperia 1 Pro claim was total BS. Oh well. I prefer a SIDE FS over an on-screen one anyway. I have the OnePlus 6T, and to me a side FS is just so much better because of WHERE it is placed...............in the spot where my index finger NATURALLY rests anyway! SONY FOREVER!!!!!!!!

  • Those 3 links all talk about Sony. You need to be more specific as to WHEN in each video do they actually mention an Xperia 1 PRO! Not gonna watch all 3. I've already seen a couple of 'em anyway. NO MENTION in either.

  • Here is a link. Watch it carefully. Pure scientific stuff:

  • Ha?? Are you dreaming? That is impossible. Sony can't afford to develop such device. They lack manpower and technical expertise to do that.

  • This is the links. Watch them carefully.

  • They can't link it here, they can only ask one more anonymous to reply.

  • where are you getting your information from? there is no mention of xperia 1 pro on the search

  • He is right. Xperia 1 pro will have dual front cameras and 6 rear cameras. And it will finally use underscreen fp sensor.

  • Link them here please. I haven't heard or seen ANYTHING about the Xperia 1 Pro. Only the Xperia 1.

  • I read some articles of Sony Xperia 1 PRO the comes with limited edition only 100pcs will release on the market.

  • it will be canceled

  • Nice! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you then! lol I'm getting REALLY tired though of waiting. They need to announce an OFFICIAL release date already and get to it.

  • Sure. I'm ATT user:-)

  • I have no review just because I have no xperia one!! Hopefully, long live SONY

  • Well, the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus BOTH have Verizon-certification on them, so I'd say there IS still a chance the Xperia 1 will have it too. Only reason I'd say no is b/c the cheaper phones sell more, Sony may not see getting Verizon-certification as cost effective. I hope not, but we'll find out soon enough as the X1 is supposed to be released next month.

  • No Verizon. That's perfectly fine

  • Ok what you quoted has only to do with which carriers the phone will WORK with. It has nothing to do with those carriers actually SELLING the Xperia 1 directly. Sounds like it's not happening. Oh well. I guess I should be happy that I can at least buy it unlocked on Amazon or Best Buy.

  • "You can pick one up from Amazon or Best Buy. You'll have to pay $899.99 for the privilege of owning Sony's latest flagship smartphone. Obviously you'll be receiving an unlocked unit, but note that it will only work on GSM-based carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and their sub-brands and MVNOs using their networks. No Sprint or Verizon, sorry." this is the quota for xz3 sony, so i guess it will be the same again for xperia 1 no sprint or verizon

  • XZP LUL, Yes I'm aware of all of that actually. I'm not worried about if Sony will leave the US market or not. What I was asking from you was to supply proof of the statement you made earlier that Sony would be AGAIN selling through U.S. carriers, which is something they haven't done since 2015. I don't see anything in this new post of yours (including the YouTube link) which proves that Sony is planning on again selling through the carriers here. IF you have proof of this, please post that and ONLY that as again I was already aware of everything you've said. With that said, that video was very interesting. It's amazing how great it is at blur-elimination! Thank you for sharing.

  • Well it is obvious sony will not give up USA market, remember xz2 and xz3 have back finger print sensor, this time the fingerprint sensor is on the side but is not with the power button. This is to avoid patent infringement in US which i don't recall which company holding the patent. But anyway, now the phone has volume buttons, power button, fingerprint sensor and shuttle button all at the right hand side of the phone. It was announced in taiwan and hong kong on 26 but only available mid May. check out the promo video, watch from 21 min start, if you can understand japanese/chinese it would help alot, but the OIS and EIS combination for video recording is really good.

  • "Gimbal level quality video stabilisation, even in lowlight, without any blur." "Improved HDR algorithms FOR (Arena and other testers, take notice, for once) LOWLIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY." Yes, reviewers, we d really like to ACTUALY see some HDR lowlight results from an Xperia for once.

  • Huawei didn't state that they have solve the weird color issue, do you have any trusted link to show you are the one front them? You love low light photography as you always do, Xperia XZ2 Premium is great for that time and sure Xperia 1 will be even better especially the width has slimmer and elongated for better one hand handheld, I don't what you saying you have to use two handed the phone, how can you saying this? Even in landscape posture the phone still nice in hand, don't forget it has a slimmer bezel at one size to help to grip the phone better than any stupidity notch to blocking the view fields! Then if your left hand the phone and right hand is free, you can switch to another hand the screen will turn upside down to fit the display like any other phone. AI Side Sense has the greater intuitive than gesture because you have to remember all gesture at first, AI Side sense is more easier for everyone even a new user. Too much Huawei's Gesture actually more complicated to use. I have use gesture for Web surfing so I that every single gesture can setup a feature to access and the more you set the more have to remember, it quite annoying especially when you pass the phone to your elder parents, they don't wish to remember such many sets of gesture settings, they want simple and intuitive. The Sony's AI Side Sense is more simple and intuitive and the longer day of use the AI will be more interesting intelligence make up the show.

  • Hey XZP LUL, In your post you said: "Well last time i heard some europe countries can pre order it and in usa some carries are going to bring in xperia 1 too." I am VERY much hoping you are right about the carriers here in the USA carrying the Xperia 1!!!!!!!! LOL Can you PLEASSSSSSEE be so kind as to link any sources you have or know of that can verify this??????????!! PLEAAAAASEE!! Thank you in advance!

  • Pubg players need high refresh rate 120hz,240hz,above n above

  • If u used to it & got the money, no problem. Looks like Xperia 1 will be one of the great phone.

  • that is the risk you have to take if the phone is imported. last bad experience was when i imported lg v10 and it spoiled exactly a little bit after 1 year warranty and the cost of repair of the motherboard is too much and i would rather go for a new phone. nevertheless, it was a good phone.

  • Why am i told u Huawei fix it already in an update? Well just to make sure u dont made the wrong assumption. About the Xperia 1 theme on my Mate 20? Simple. I used to Sony before, & prefer it looks over EMUI. Hate EMUI stock looks, but love their features. Therefore i got best both of the worlds. And no, excellent low light pics from Huawei device not an avatar world as u presume, its how good their camera algorithm is. So, after Xperia 1 introduce 21:9 screen ratio, u call all older phones too wide now? Hello? XZ2 Premium chunkiness? Forgot about that? I have no problems, its the max size my hand can go, & Mate 20 gesture navigation great on one handed use eventhough its a big phone. I love 21:9 screen ratio as well, but gesture navigation are better than stock android pill gesture that Xperia 1 will use. Definitely u will use it two hands, as Xperia 1 has a tall long display.

  • When u using an imported phone, service support is at risk. (If any problems arise)

  • well last time i heard some europe countries can pre order it and in usa some carries are going to bring in xperia 1 too. HK and Taiwan is among the closest countries to japan of course they will get their xperia first. Since sony exited SEA, the only way for me to get it is through import. If you are not among those countries then too bad for you

  • Yes. Sony should do mobile business in taiwan and hongkong only. Because their customers is in those countries. No customers outside hongkong and taiwan. Even most japaneses prefer iphone, sharp, and galaxy (not xperia).

  • Haha right on brotha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sony is not owned by Silk road fund, you are talking about a completely different company that silk road fund invested in. I guess reading is too hard these days.

  • Dont expect too much. OIS and EIS are there for years in other flagship. So its only a catching up, its only a copy of S10 camera, so its not going to be leader. Yes finally a flagship camera setup, so it will have flagship performance, less noise as we can expect from 12mp big sensor, better focus and better stabilisation better low light. It will be a jump from xz3 mediocre camera.

  • Sony still doesn't know what a bezeless phone is

  • so much name calling, defaming , hate spreading on an unreleased phone. but wait no more, tomorrow is the official launching of xperia 1 in taiwan. review will soon available and can't wait to see how much their OIS+EIS and their 21:9 screen to watch movie lying on bed without black bars or extending the screen to fill the bars.

  • It is a win win program. Stop thinking it is a one man show.

  • The new investor is from China (China’s Silk Road Fund). Well... I saw most sonyfans often said bad things to china and so alergic of china. Now sonyfans (especially vV5) have to learn that their favorite company is run by using china's money.

  • Sony Please add the amazing "Colour Spectrum Bar" of the Xperia U to the new smart phones tooo.

  • Beautiful SONY flagship monSter!

  • Yes you are the only one who know the photography, that's why the DSLR color algorithm is too far from you. Only Huawei camera must have camera software update? Why bothering told me Huawei will fix for the reddish people or fake gold signage, I don't care about it. I am Sony user but definitely not a Huawei fans.. alas. I don't get it why you share the Sony latest UI not the avatar style's photo from Mate 20, I know you hate Side sense but you love the notch and wider width even more that's make it looks much better and of course stylish.

  • I'm replying things base on the pics on the exact timing he gave me, from the video link. On that situation, u can never know for sure, unless your the photographer. Seems like a different white balance takes for me. If he point out on the blue sky color, reddish skin tones on video, yes it is not accurate. Replied him already that an update already fix those reddish skin tones. But other than that, like i said previously, its a Leica style color temp photography.

  • Well of course it is. Chinese and Korean biggest tech companies grew in same way, supoorted by the goverment. Dont you worry about JOLED, its bright, up until now they produced oleds on a testing line only, second gen line and mass production with high cost effective yield coming in 2020, and with customers like Sony and other waiting in the line...

  • I change phones every two years now, to make sure i can get for the latest tech, experiencing myself (no problem with money). And no, this is not an advertising, this is an opinion express that came from a Sony fan, and i'm still a fan of Sony. But i cant deny their weakness on camera department, which is Sony itself admit it. As stated numerous on previous reply, i even said Huawei phones got its weakness, but overall its the better one. The one that denying is you, explanation that lacks knowledge in terms of a photography world. And i gave opinion about previous Xperia, not the Xperia 1, which hopefully finally can competes with others. Back in days, i contribute a lot on Sony rom regarding theming, kernel, cameras on XDA. Still have hopes for Sony eventhough they stop selling in my country. While i'm using Huawei Mate 20 now, this are the looks of my phone -

  • Joled is secured and supported financially by Japanese Govt. Even though it's made huge losses due to serious market changes and competition, it will survive for now as it has has new investors. But without doubt, the future of Joled is still unsure.

  • Dude, just because you own huawei phone, doesnt mean you need to defend huawei camera that much. Youre just the same with sony fans here. Huawei is phone is the best for low light, zoom, stability, macro, bokeh etc. Thats all make it one of the best camera phone. But for color accuracy and daylight photo it isnt. Please, accept it, its the fact..

  • I have experience some phones from my friend and parents that's enough, not need just like you spend the money to experience it and you just give the highest rate to one brand as an advertising, that brand also have their weakness how can you deny it, the youtuber makes the camera comparison is quite fair. You are 'introduce' the brand at Sony thread and more you discredit Sony phone at the same time. The camera comparison is quite clear, P30 pro mess up on color algorithm. Source:

  • Cool news, JDI will keep on going... Except JOLED is not a JDI division. JDI has a minority of stock in JOLED, maybe none now as them themselves got into financial problems, and japan investment group INCJ is the main owner of JOLED, includin minor stock holders like Sony and some other japanese.

  • wireless charge ???

  • Did u even understand what i'm saying previously? Dude, u need to sharpen up your knowledge about photography. Go for more professional reviewer (Mrwhosetheboss is just ok), own another branded phone to compare with in real life, dont just rely on not so credible & lame youtube comparison. Heard that u using Z2. I own that phone 4 years ago, before switching to Z5. I even root & even put Cyberian mod on that device (if u know what i mean). Guess what? After Z5 i switch to Honor 8 Pro. Honor 8 Pro camera trash both Z5 & Z2 without any enhancement done & without root (i dont feel the need anymore as its so good) by left really far behind, along with other aspects for the price. Give u some advice, try switch another brand phone (flagship), then u'll know how bad camera algorithm on previous Xperia is. I'm happy now with Mate 20, gonna use it for next 2 years until Mate 40 arrive. Unless Sony makes me interested again.

  • I am sure DSLR won't take the peel off yellow color. DSLR takes true to real life color, gold has gradients to show it is golden color, not wiped with heavy image processing. XZ3 daylight is better than Huawei, it has more accurate color unlike Huawei bring the world only for social media.

  • Dude, that is not different yellow/gold color differences. Thats a difference in white balance takes. S10 & Iphone more into warmer side, P30 on the colder side on that scene. Theres nothing wrong with that, are u serious rite now? And u can not confirm the exact color on that gold/yellow text, as u are not in that scene. If the reviewer says so, then thats a different story. (What i hear are the reviewer praise how details P30 image looks on 7:11). U really dive dig to Huawei's weakness lol & ignore its goodness on that review lol. XZ3 cant even achieve what P30 could do, why not talking about that?

  • Huawei can't even detect gold colors in the image still photo, what they have is faded yellow color as you can refer to duration 7:11, the signage has golden word but Huawei can't detect it and only show the whitening yellow, I know it has RYYB sensor, why don't shot the realistic color I mean is golden color not yellow color and hey this is a daylight photography it show Huawei well night shot but lack of on restore the true to real life color even the daylight just failed. Well you can wait Huawei give you the software update, maybe no or whatever, but why it isn't a finalised version and giving such betas and rush to launch into the market? Source:

  • Sharpening on P30 is not over the top, noise free image with minimal artifacts, unlike XZ3. Color reproduction on image also natural & close to real life. On video recording, yes, its produce reddish skin tones on people, perhaps because of the first RYYB sensor implementation on the market. Your video link are just out right after P30 launch, with pre-released software. No worries, an update already fix the color reproduction, looks natural & true to life now. - Video comparison like this i like to see, lots of professional explanation from MrWhoseTheBoss. From that comparison, P30 is the top spot for me, especially low lights, no one ever comes close (not even Pixel's Night Sight). P30 Pro auto mod alone are excellent on low lights. Its the Camera Phone to beat as of now. Lets see how Xperia 1 holds up.

  • All in all these comparison we are talking about the low light photos both have their pros, but I don't think more details is more oversharpening but I know it has slightly oversharpening atleast not aggressive like Huawei did! Let's see daylight camera comparison, Huawei shift the color looks tragedy as we can't see the red people in this world but Huawei show their ability on changing colors. Source:

  • No offence, but i prefer picture details on the Mate 20. U said Huawei wipe off details for the sake of noise free pics looks unnatural, for me, no noise reduction & oversharpen pictures looks unnatural as well, just like XZ3. Last time i remember, i dont see any grainy noise on each object i saw on real life, lots of color noise also dont persist on real life objects, so for me it unnatural as well. Its a 2 kind of situation, Mate wipe off a bit details to make pics noise free, XZ3 retain details by minimal noise reduction but crush it with excessive oversharpening. No two words about it, each with their own way camera algorithm as both using small camera sensor, unlike DSLR. But in the end, i choose Mate 20 camera algorithm way over XZ3 does. I dont pixel peep image everytime pics captured (details are still flagship grade), i got better dynamic range, better highlights preservation, a lot better low light images, better bokeh effects, can do super macro, has ultra wide angle to capture urban city scene, RAW format, Leica 'smooth' & 'vivid' color option that i love it very much. Now Xperia 1 understands how to competes with others, hence the triple camera implementation. And by my own experience, i stand by my point.

  • Chinese and Taiwanese companies to gain controlling stake of JDI. Suwa Investment Holdings, LLC and TPK Holding Co., Ltd. JDI and JOLED don’t make OLED screens for smartphones at present. JDI’s JOLED division yet has to kick off mass production of OLED screens for smartphones. Sony ONLY owns 00.63% stake in JDI. Source: Japan Display Inc., said it has entered into an alliance with Suwa Investment Holdings, LLC and TPK Holding Co., Ltd., to give control and ownership of the company to the Chinese-Taiwanese consortium. Source:

  • Already making OLEDs for years now, from 2020 new factory and mass production of 220 000 panels per month, japanese investors only, including Sony. Glad to inform you.

  • Yes, this phone needs a bigger battery and a headphone jack. Then it would be a real winner as everything else appears good on paper so far. Lets wait for it to be actually released for final opinions.

  • Joled does Not make OLED screens. It's has serious financial problems at present and hopefully a Chinese investment is coming to revive them. Guess Sony will continue buying from LG. It will take years to Joled to catch up to OLED tech, if they manage to survive.

  • Yes, everything should improve, maybe the future of smartphone screen is indeed 10bit HDR. But s 4K is too much for smartphone, but this phone has 1644x3840 not so far from 2K not 4K like on XZ premium, so its still ideal. Bigger battery and faster charging, better camera are more important than better screen.

  • You need to add a huge hole in the screen for Samsung (why they had to do that, after staying away from that atrocity until now, I can't understand), ugly arrangement of cameras on the back (that of course is about personal preference), and Samsung software (the reason I will not buy any Samsung anytime soon).

  • Actualy it is said to be a Samsung display... Wonder what Samsung Mate and revs will "conclude" this time. Or will it be the usual "We measured this and that, its a great screen, but still cant beat S10s amole" "..... oh, wait. 404 checksum error" Anyways, From next year expect japanese Joled screens on oled Sony phones, as them are starting mass production.

  • A wonderful explanation from that pro guy. A first of its kind mobile screen of native 1 billion color gamut. Extraordinary. And it is quite a noticable difference to all the rest common 8bit oled screens. Sony really made a gem here.

  • The Sony Xperia 1 has a 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing display, (or a 10-bit equivalent display) that Sony says can display a myriad of colours without banding…. The 8-bit with 2-bit smoothing display, commonly referred to as 8+2 FRC (Temporal Dithering). This is a way of turning the 16.7 million colors from an 8-bit panel into the 1.07 billion colors that a true native 10-bit panel can display. 8+2 FRC uses various algorithms that flash 2 color tones very rapidly, thus giving the perceived impression of a third color that really isn’t there. This may sound like some sort of sneaky parlour trick, but almost all of the major panel manufacturers are now doing this. Atomos, SmallHD, Flanders, and even your 5K iMac display are all 8+2 FRC displays. 8+2 FRC panels are considerably cheaper to manufacturer than a true native 10-bit display. The good news here is in reality, 8+2 FRC panels are almost impossible to distinguish from true 10-bit native panels. The only small difference is when it comes to viewing material that was shot in low light conditions at higher ISO values. On an 8+2 FRC display, the image will appear to show more noise than what an actual native 10-bit display will. Source:

  • Here's a honest comparasion between Samsung galaxy S10 plus and Sony Xperia 1

  • In this case, if LG made first 4k OLED display. So what LG phone has this display????????? Maybe V50q? Interesting, Sony Xperia 1 has.... Really stupid argument you have

  • What additional hardvare? Stop lying troll. You purchase an oled screen, you get screen with a pin connector, nothing else, no any chips with it of any kind.

  • Well of course a mobile engine is software, but software allocated to some chip for processing... if not a dedicated one, then allocated to hexagon or spectra of SD 855, just like BionzX. Its hardware+software anyway you turn it, and is definitely not an emulation of any sort. And Sony makes their own 4k X1 chips, not any LG or other... so stop the crap.

  • But I was talking about xz3 and mate 20, not xperia 1. And about eye tracking, it's useless if still sony doesn't have touch focus on recording videos. In 1080p, you have to enable object tracking for that. And you don't have object tracking on 4k recording, so you don't have a touch focus.

  • Nope. Old cheap motoG has higher dxo score than xz3.

  • Sony doesn't make OLED displays for Smartphones or Tv. Smartphone and TV OLED screens are supplied by LG. This includes the technology and additional hardware. Sony then tweaks it software to suit. So, in fact, the first 4k OLED screen is made by LG and purchased by Sony. Surely, you must be a Sony rep here to constantly lie and promote Sony without any evidence.

  • Sony is an entertainmemt company. It jas nothing with money to do in-house stuff. This is not their focus. They do not make RAM memory, storage etc ... Battery is Sony, lenses on cameras are in-house too ... Other companies buy storage, ram, sensors (cam, fingerprint scanner, laser AF, ), lenses, body components etc .... None of them have even 50% of in-house stuff.

  • Bionz of Sony mirrorless cameras is hardware. Bionz for Xperia is software. X1 Extreme /Ultimate are hardware for Sony TVs X1 for Xperia 1 is software. There is no space for hardware versions of Bionz and X1 Extreme inside a phone. Not easy to make a small mobile version of them. Probably next MWC , JDi may be able to suppy oled for Sony Mobile. But dont expect STE oled. It is very expensive tech. Not even Bravia have it. Great news is that they already have TV sized screens of Crystal LED. Contrast is same 1 million of oled, can be brighter and no burn in ....

  • X1 chip made by LG...?, . hmmmm Sould I report this pthetic try on trolling? I dont know.... Better I leave it right here so people can laugh their ars..s off.

  • Exactly!

  • Not sure what you're talking about. The Xperia 1 has been CONFIRMED to have OIS on 2 of its 3 main camera lenses.............the main/wide lens and the telephoto one ARE CONFIRMED to have OIS as well as EIS. It's only the ultra-wide lens that doesn't have it, which I'm fine with I guess. On top of that, it has several features which have been shared by their luxury line dept, Alpha, including Eye AF, Auto-Exposure, etc.

  • The mobile chip and technology for the LG OLED screen is also supplied by LG. Please do your research before lying here. You should know that only one single part of this phone is made by Sony and that's the camera sensor. Sony outsources every other part to numerous other companies. Sony just doesn't have the necessary R&R these days.

  • I think there is a problem on this comparing. In low light, Sony captured a picture with 1\8 shutter speed. Actually, you can't take a picture in that speed in real world. Because this phone doesn't have OIS and everything that is moving gets blurry. While Huawei got that in 1/26 and nothing gets blurry. Plus, Sony is over-sharpening but Huawei is not. You can see artifacts easily on sony, especially in low light, but there is no sign of that in Huawei.

  • Yeah, well, that may be true, but LG cant make the X1 mobile chip that enables this 10 bit quality on its OLED screens. All Sony gets from LG is basic oled screen substrate, all additional enhancements are compliments of Sony tech.

  • Wow..............yeah that seems so deliberately made to put down Sony too. But you're right.............THERE it is in that pic! Plus Sony has always been BETTER than Samsung when it comes to displaying color accuracy. Samsung tends to veer towards "warmer color tones", while Sony doesn't. Man I dunno about you, but I'm getting RESTLESS waiting for the 1 to be released. WTF?!!

  • Well yeah. No 8bit screen with software 10 bit support only can beat actual 10bit screen with native 10bit support. And all that in 4k too. SamsungMate already made "a disclaimer" about Xperia 1 screen in their S10 screen marketing, even before the device is out. Read this: "As a result, for Smartphones it is absolutely pointless to further increase the display resolution and pixels per inch (ppi) up to 4K (3940x2160 pixels) for a silly marketing wild goose chase into the stratosphere, with no visual benefit for humans!" So obviously, without any further adue, sponsored revs are already ready to trash Xperias 1 screen... But there it is, real side by side view, and there is no doubt about it... Xperia 1 is just a level up.

  • That Oled screen is made by LG from South.Korea....Sony can't make Oled screens....

  • Hell yeah!! The 1 looks the best for sure!!!!

  • Again XZ3 show the details much clearer than wiped Huawei. You should scale down the pixel to 12MP for both at the standard and the noise isn't much different for both phone, but when XZ3 scale up as 19MP you can find the image size is bigger than 12MP then the noise at the color pencil just can see it, but we use the standard 12MP and compare the detail between Huawei P20 and Sony XZ3 the XZ3 clearly the winner, as you can find the word ' the governor and company of the bank of England' on the currency notes clearly on XZ3 while the Huawei is gone!! If you compare the detail on the currency note which is the Charles Darwin one, the Huawei use the "beauty" mode wipe the wrinkles of the portrait while you can find all the details on XZ3!! If you compare these still can't know, you can compare the braid with a donkey one, the Huawei again wipe all the texture and looks much artificially while all the texture you can only find it on XZ3!! If the color correction is excellent you should get all the color arigorim much possible same as XZ3, if you don't believe me please compare the wooden abacus, the Huawei show it yellowish power on the wooden surface, while XZ3 restore the right color. If you still don't know the color comparison, please see the decor star the Huawei dull color arigorim burn the red color, while XZ3 has the right red color on the decor star. Source:

  • For OLED screen droolers out there... enjoy 10bit screen of Xperia 1 Xperia 1

  • Xperia image looks unnatural too. The color is so dull. Real scene is more colorful than sony's camera image

  • Sony was Never number one or Number two in mobile phones....in fact Sony isn't even in the top 10 now

  • Too true. For some reason there are hordes of Sony faboys who think the company can do no wrong. The market doesn't lie, folks.

  • I love sony too, and i want sony to wakeup and be number one again like in the past. And it's amazing how sony always repeat the same camera failures every year.

  • I have no idea about this word: remote control !! But, don't forget Xperia One is not a thing "h 'p' orth !! easy to know easy to understand..!!!

  • The real question is, have u compare Mate 20 vs XZ3 on the gsmarena tool? They both got identical texture, details, color captured, but XZ3 comes with messy fuzzy noisy both on the edge & color, especially low lights. U can see halo sharpening on every edges of objects caused by the oversharpening i've mention before on XZ3. -

  • You don't even go and see the Gsmarena's camera comparison Charts for XZ3, why should I waste my precious time on you. That's chart show XZ3 has more detail to reproduction for better image quality.

  • By your means image quality equal to wipe details highlighting shadow with punchy color? Image quality should include the more details more texture more color gradients, why you exclude these point? Because your beloved brand typical Huawei (I know you purposely use Pixel as a sugarcoating for hiding the Huawei) are excellent on HDR arigorim but weakness on restore reality scence and details? That's HDR isn't elaborate as essential of image quality but it is a feature has been gimmicked.

  • Im sure he will comeback with another link from unreputable source.

  • Nope. I stand by my point. As stated, details in Sony image is indeed good, but Pixel are more balance. And i never mention about Huawei or Samsung about the details when pixel peep. But as an overall image quality, its not just about the details, its how the dynamic range produce, high contrast scene handling, highlight preservation, which is Sony weakness. Good details in Sony alone wont save the overall image quality. I rather pick the overall image quality than pixel peeping the image everytime after captured. As a photographer, to each his own.

  • Are there any creadible sources that can support your argument?

  • i am sony mobile lover since it was sony ericsson i ve never tried to buy a mobile from other brands until sony has decided to leave the middle east meanwhile i wanted to change my phone and 10 days ago i have bought a huawei p30 pro (i am a samsung hater because they did not convince me for their products) and really i have found how much is the different i was scared in the beginning bcs huawei is a chinese company but i did not expect this much of high quality product really i am amazed and delighted since sony has disappointed me maybe not only me but all the customers because we all know that they have the capability to produce so much better products but they did not!!!!!!

  • Your opinion are false. The sharpness with detail that isn't court as oversharpness the sharpness result has more texture and color gradient it is FULL with details, unlike those competitor wipe the detail, wipe the texture, saturate the color, it is too much image processing to lost natural looks and the competitor like Huawei also do the image sharpness but it wipe the detail just like Samsung did it.

  • Details on Sony phone is good. Minimal noise reduction, but put too much oversharpening causing the image very high resulting in grainy noise & color noise, especially on low lights. Pixel 3 are the most balance in sharpness & noise reduction level, resulting with great details. And dont just rely on that gsmarena studio tool as it cant compare dynamic range, exposure level, contrast, white balance, highlight preservation, which the aspects that Sony phones lagging behind.

  • Hahaha I can show him but dont want to. Dont like to argue. Every professional & reliable comparison out there all agree as what i experience & saw. Thats good enough for me lol.

  • good luck to sony with its xperia 1

  • You can compare on Gsmarena camera comparison charts, XZ3 has better color more details than other.

  • All source he brought you consider as not credible. Dude he need half day to search for the videos. Why dont you bring one, that has more challanging scene, like backlit, night scene, with explanation from the reviewer not just a video if photo. Oh.. He'll back. This time he need more time. Maybe two days.

  • Hope sony keep compact one

  • I love sony. I've always used sony phones any time I've ever tried to deviate its been a huge mistake. And that includes Samsung. Sony is amazing.

  • Again, not a credible video source. And u have to change your mentality about single lens vs dual/triple lens. For example, XZ3 vs Mate 20. Its always a one main lens XZ3 vs one main lens on Mate 20 because the other lens are for different purpose (telephoto, ultra wide angle, super macro, better bokeh effects), a purpose XZ3 cant answer as it only has 1 lens.

  • It is so pity to talking to you. If you know the real scene isn't like your captured photo, let's praise/critic it avatar mode change everything eye-catching and popping up as fantasy world as it can, how unnatural it can be? All artificially L.

  • I had post the XZ3 vs Samsung Note9 camera comparison, the XZ3 capture great photo same as Note 9 even though it has single main camera but it capture the flower have much plenty color gradients and much realistic as same as the real scene. Here are another link.

  • What's the point of having those features if the image quality is not good enough ?

  • Indeed, there must be a reason why the reviewer directly compare it with dslr. I've never seen any xperias compared with dslr.

  • Are u serious right now? Compare a Canon DSLR full frame camera with Mate 20 1/1.7" sensor with 2.0 micron pixel size? Hahahaha maybe Mate 20 is the best camera smartphone bet as its got one of the biggest camera sensor around. Also base on that video, points given to Mate 20 was close to the Canon, which is pretty impressive. Try throw away XZ3 to that comparison & it will fail miserably considering they do the super macro, low light & wide angle test, because XZ3 only has one sensor. Nice joke there, sir. Made my day.

  • How can he said nonsense? He gave credible link from sony. Actually your china link is not credible.

  • I know it is still early, but the spec listed here , is it confirmed? Main thing i want to find out is if this phone will fully function on Verizon network. The Xperia 10 seems like the right move (re)opening up the opportunity to use the Sony phones on Verizon, so not sure what will it be on this Xperia 1

  • That's nonsense. A hater can spread lie like you always do. If you say the link I provide is no creditable, please watch this comparison from China, the Huawei Mate 20 pro capture unrealistic model's face because wipe off the face details and etc lacking. I think this is the only one video I can found which dare to makes some critic about Huawei phone from China, those other will keep spreading good news just like you always do..

  • I'm not talking nonsense. Its all over the internet, www.xperiablog.net/2019/03/04/heres-why-xperia-cameras-have-never-lived-up-to-their-potential/ They will fix the problem starting Xperia 1, but lets see if its can live up the hype. As stated before, i'm coming from a lot of Sony flagship phone, Xperia Neo, Xperia Arc S, S, ZR, Z1, Z2 & Z5. I know very well how Sony camera style algorithm works. After switching to Huawei, just realized how bad Sony camera software is. Thats the problem, i own the two brand to compare it myself, whereas u just compare it to not very credible comparison on youtube. Search for Anandtech, Pixel Peepers for more professional & credible review. Those cam view, tech town, smart tech comparison mostly are fake, can tell just by my naked eyes. And please learn more definition about dynamic range, seems like u dont understand about it very well.

  • hey guys these number specs dont matter in other phones right, all those 40mp and 4000mah. is sony still good in quality not quantity. like their 12mp is somehow better than 40

  • Xz3 has lower dxo score than motoG. And you dare to compare it to Samsung's flagship. You should compare it to oppo/xiaomi/vivo first. Im not sure sony win.

  • You are here to giving bad comment to Sony, that's not a plain opinion that's a brain wash marketing tricks, it can be done by multiple accounts spread hate and lie to perform a trolling.

  • Xz3 is your recent phone right? HTC in 2009 and LG in 2015. No wonder you have a same experience. Try high end sammy or chinese phone, youll get a lot better experience. There are manything sammy n chinese phones can do all that three phone cant.

  • Hi. in the last 10 years I've changed three phones, HTC,LG,SONY. they only thing I understand is that everything is the same and we just dumb give them our money for the experience little things. I will stay with Sony Xperia xz 3 long as it is and only when it does not work i will buy another phone

  • I rather pick image quality & versatility than Predictive Focus. My point is, i found that both XZ3 & XZ Premium cant catch up others in terms of camera performance. Even Sony itself made a statement and admit it, exactly as what i saw. Funny that u people still defending the Sony has superior image quality when the creator itself says the other way. But i'll hold my judgement later about Xperia 1.

  • Make it 4. Dont forget the Pixel phone. Hurmm i'm a bit skeptical about the score on your link...Mate 20 only 2 points above for zoom? When its offer 3x optical & 5x hybrid. G8 only 2x optical. Better low lights on G8? I doubt about it, from my view its worse than Mate 20, along with weird green tint issue. On video definitely G8 will be better, but on that VCX theres no video review. Well maybe that reviewer has its own point of view. Not every professional person has the same taste. Nevertheless i love how simplified the rating is.

  • Yup, its samsung idea and many vendors follow it including LG and sony. Now we have 3 phone with very identical camera, S10, G8, and this phone. Check this sites.. It gives G8 wins to mate 20 pro. Dont look at sony phone scores, youll laugh.

  • Yeah Alex I got the OP 6T as well, and aside from thinking the OP 7's camera won't match the X1's, I also have my reservations when it comes to the pop-up camera. Although part of me actually thinks it's kinda cool, I am entirely convinced that a few accidental drops wouldn't permanently damage that motor or mechanism that pops it out, even though it's supposed to offer like 100,000 pop-ups before it dies. The other phone I really liked actually (besides the S10+, but I am trying to avoid another notch phone lol) is the Nokia 9 Pureview. Unfortunately, there are issues with that phone as well. So really for me it's the X1 or bust! lol

  • Lol

  • We can't know if Sony will follow others. But I don't think they should. It's so many like me who hates holes in middle of nowhere... Waterdrop is almost the past. So, will see what is next. Oh, forgot about pop-up camera, that's stupid idea ever. That's why I don't consider to upgrade from OP6t to OP7

  • I think waching movie in a phone isnt good idea. Short video is alright, but for lenghtly movie, its better on big screen and big speakers when we have spare time. Tall screen also means you'll get huge black bar if you watch mainstream 16:9 video. And about screen its only 2, fullscreen or bezel/wider notch with dedicated sonsors for face recognition. Bezel with no proper face recognition should not be the option, but yes its cheapest choice

  • is this a joke ??? 3300 mah battery for 1000 euro ???? are you crazy sony ???

  • Well.. everything samsung/china brands have done, soon or later will be done by sony. Sony needs customers, and to get it sony must follow the trend. Just like the long screen ratio. No other way, sony must follow competitors did. That is including the notch/hole/sliding camera.

  • Well, you really love to make speculations. You did it long time ago about slim bezel, oled, multi cameras, and long ratio. But now, you endup changing your mind. I've learned that your speculations always wrong. Hmmm i'm curious about the upcoming xperia phones.. especially how sony will implement the display hole/notch.

  • lol

  • From S7? It was single camera on the back. Wow. I have no words....

  • So many Samsung mid-range phones have waterdrop design. That's what I meant about coping Chinese phones. Personally, i hate waterdrop on my OP 6t, hate curved display and of course the hole in the display. It's ugly for me

  • Samsung choose the punch hole solution but most of the China still chosen the water drop notch. They all don't have the straight line on the fore head of the phone and they don't have a tiny bezel for better grip in landscape posture. The tiny bezel which allow to place the front camera and sensors and earpiece rightly unlike those maker shrink down the space to limitation the healthier coordination and sturdier designs, some more other get elevator camera which give up the waterproof designs, it is not perfect at all!

  • None of them got Predictive Capture and camera rise up smart launch.

  • If its about the main cam, yes its Samsung formula. But if its about exact triple camera arrangement, it starts with Mate 20 (Samsung phones before Mate 20 is Note 9, which still using dual camera setup). Vanilla Mate 20 using none quad bayer tech fyi, its a 12mp Sony IMX380, 1/2.3" sensor size at 1.55 micron pixel size.

  • Yes, mate series has triple cam setup. But its 40 mp with quadbayer tech. I mean the primary camera. People thought sony will bump the megapixel to 48mp. But they choose the safe proven formula, 12mp dualpixel pdaf OIS, seems familiar? Yes its sammy formula since S7, plus ultrawide, and telepoto, see.. S10 formula.

  • Sometimes people hates too much & goes overboard. Yup Xperia 1 design finally back to Sony classic design, & i kinda love it. 21:9 screen ratio also looks good to me. However, if they want to using 21:9 screen device, make it bezelless all around, with pop up selfie camera, that way, they can control the size of the phone for not looks like its too tall. Earpiece under the screen just like P30 Pro does, with side stereo speaker. I would buy that phone in a heart beat. Hardware side, yup, nothing new, just a safe play including the camera. And no, its not S10 formula, Mate 20 series starts the triple camera setup (rgb + ultra wide + telephoto).

  • Sony doesn't look even close to Samsung. It's your imagination probably. Lol

  • It's much better than Samsung's design

  • It's not a copy of Samsung. Samsung copy so many Chinese phones and it's fact

  • Dude, XZ3 front is indeed like note 9. Edge screen and rounded screen corner. But this one is like s10??!? Noway. Its like their omni balance design. But for the camera yes, its a s10 formula

  • Does it has LED Notification? No earphone jack.

  • Lol. This phone should be called "Xperia Galaxy". Because it copys galaxy design. Samsung is so kind, to let their design stolen by sony

  • Excellent design. No notch, elegant edges, looks like Galaxy S10. Sony must improve their marketing strategies and advertising. One of the most beautiful phones on the market.

  • Nope, stop imagine yourself, notch or hole won't come. The multiple camera is the trend for some more features. Sony flagship always has great endurance, so you no need to worry it.

  • Stop making xcuse. The upcoming xperias will have notches/holes.

  • Regarding the notch.. we'll see. I know sony will follow the notch trend soon (just like the tall ratio). Or maybe the will follow Oppo and Samsung, using the sliding/rotating camera. And I dont like both notch and hole. And i saw your post long time ago that you also hate multi cameras, you said it waste battery power and blablabla. What is your excuse now? Xperia 1 uses Triple main cameras now + 1selfie camera.

  • You don't tell people I hate notch and most of them come with notch or hole. Sony don't give you notch. taller is better for multitasking, I have state that, you don't read it. LESS bezel is better than bezelless, I have state that too. WHAT your favourite phone? with notch or hole?

  • If Sony Wants a Better Result in the World Market. So Sony listen carefully, Advertise Your Products More and More. Otherwise Stop Making Products for The World. Just Make for your own country and use them in your country. I Don't Know why Sony is careless about his Customers. They are not listening what customers wants. First of all they should fire or terminate the marketing manager of his Company. Because they don't know how show new devices or products in the world. They never advooertise there products like Samsung, Huwaie, Nokia, Oppo, ViVo Etc.

  • You Just Highlight Sony... That Sony Fails ...???

  • I just want to make sure that you didn't get the wrong assumption. Xperia 1 is gorgeous. I love the design. But like you said.. it's all thanks to samsung. because the design is inspired from galaxy phones. Samsung have made sony to move forward.

  • You have yet to learn alot about the difference between opinions, and deliberate lies/disinformations (ie. trolling). The net is full of em, no matter the subject or object (either rocket science, or just a phone).

  • If you hate Sony, why are you here and post bad things about Sony if you hate it???????

  • Actually, you guys troll Sony on this page. This is the Sony's page. Thank you for your service

  • The Leica style photography are not because of that blue sky lol. Its the way they handle contrast, colors temp, wide aperture effects etc. that results in a bit sentimental & vintage images. Perfect for street photography. I have a Leica D-Lux camera & Mate 20, therefore i can confirm it has an identical results. With the 'smooth' & 'vivid' color option on Mate 20, it makes images more identical as Leica does & i love that 'smooth' color option, as it makes your image & video recording ready at cinematic effects without having to fiddle around with Lightroom later. Less hassle & save time.

  • As i said earlier, to each his own. I came from Sony & love what Huawei has done to its camera. Plus your given link is not credible & not professional at all lol.

  • Agree. I think midrange phone is better in color accuracy, close to reality. High end phone camera like mate 20 pro is too vibrant in daylight, in dark situation xz3 also produce dark photo, close to reality. with high end phone its brighter than reality. Xz3 also see closer to what we see, while in mate 20 it can be much closer than reality.

  • Yes. They will trolling here to praising whatever Huawei did. And more they will discredit Sony, spread lie and hate. This is a terrible marketing strategy used by Samsung before.

  • The added color is not true to real life on Huawei and samsung, what you capture is only a bundle of image edited skill which turn everything into the avatars. You have no choice. You can fill up you live with these critical color encode processing. You can't see the real scence, but fill up with even more punchy colors and highlights. You get everyday brightness like owl hawk eyes in night. That's what you get so not close to reality.

  • Xperia XZ3 camera is take much close to reality scene, if you want blended color just adjust the brightness, it has many levels many results to turn into avatars. Do you really think what you see is what you get? Non DSLR will do that, only smartphone will gimmick it. While the original image can not be restored just because of this gimmick and color trick, full with punchy color and highlights and turn night scene day alike.

  • Dont trust stushooter, he only defend xz3. If only xz3 photos results more dramatic photos he will love it. All people loves blue sky. I am not sure about leica style photography. Its really there or its only a story you make to defend your opinion. Because its now different with p30 pro, i have read phone arena blind test result, since all people love blue sky and its not there on p30 pro photos, it lost in that test to XR n S10+.

  • Sony water resistant phone fails First in salt water...between Samsung Galaxy S7, LG G5, Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, Motorola Moto X Play, Kyocera Duraforce, and an Apple iPhone 6s in salt water

  • Motorola Defy was the first Android water resistant smartphone. Released and for sale in March 2012...IP67 dust/water resistant. Sony Acro S was released and for sale in august 2012...Sony copied and was ONLY IP57 !!

  • Wrong. Please re read your own link. These are direct quotes from your link. Even your own link has proved you wrong. 2005 saw the first water resistant phone with the Casio Canu 502S / GZ'One. Sony copied in 2006 with the Sony Ericsson SO902iWP+ (not a smartphone). Sony copied. 2006 was the Nokia 5500 Sport. This ran on Symbian, so this is the first ever waterproof smartphone. The first water resistant Android phone is released by Motorola, the Motorola Defy in 2012. Sonys first android water resistant phone, the Xperia z was in 2013. Sony copied again.

  • A lie. Nokia and Sony released first waterproof smartphones (Symbian) in same month of 2006. Only Casio released a nonsmart waterproof featured phone earlier. And recently, only Sony seems to be built good enough to stand to its claims:

  • Photography terms are huge. To each his own. I kinda like the Leica-style photography effects. And to be honest, some of the shots are taken in Night Mode (which maybe look a bit unnatural, but it serve its purpose, to see things in the dark), it should be auto all the time for more natural looking. (Well, if u like it). As my opinion, the same blue color both on daylight & lowlights are because that means it has an excellent dynamic range & higher contrast with no overblown highlights than XZ3 does. Thats what most photographer ever dreamed of.

  • About color rendering, its only about preference, and its always subjective. i prefer more dramatic shot, i want to show my friend i have a perfect vacation, when sky is perfectly blue and tropical tree in perfect green. You prefer natural look. But i honestly dont think so, if camera 1 get more dramatic photo, you will love it. But about lo light shot like pool scene, camera 1 got dark picture, its camera 1 abvious lost, its undeniable. Camera 1 is just like midrange phone, it has all midrange phone camera problem, In daylight struggle in a costrasty scene, night shot when there is still enough light its okay, but low light scene get dark or even unusable photo.

  • I agree its like a midrange versus flagship, it confirms its dxo low score.

  • To all of you saying Sony's waterproof is a lie Go watch this, 2018 Flagship waterproof test, XZ2 is the only survivor in the test, flawlessly

  • Even if Sony isn't the first one to introduce waterproof Android smartphones they are the only one to have implemented it as standard since they have introduced it for flaggship smartphones. What the video you shared doesn't tell is the fact that ever since all of the Xperia flaggships and some midrangers like the Xperia aqua have been ip certified Xperia go Xperia acro s Xperia V Xperia z Xperia z1 Xperia z2 Xperia z3 Xperia z4 Xperia z5 Xperia x performance Xperia xz Xperia xz premium Xperia xz1 Xperia xz2 Xperia xz3 Xperia 1 And if I would have added all of the ip rated midrangers than this list would have been even longer..... Wich other oem has a long list of ip certified Android flaggships like Sony? That's the point to be made here. Samsung, Apple and all of the other oems adopted this bodylanguage later. (ip certified metal / glass) Sony changed their policy simply because pple werent using it as stated in their guidelines. Yes you could submerge their phones but in fresh water. And if you do use it in let's say salt water then you have to rinse it off with fresh water thoroughly because chlorine and salt will deteriorate the components wich provide the ip rating in the first place. Their a company that had to change their policy later on for their own best interest since most users simply don't read the products guidelines its called damage control. Go ahead and compare the ip certificate of xperias to galaxies and you'll see that they are the same. Samsung and other oems learned from Sonys experience on that ground and also state the same in their user guidelines... But I haven't heard you complain about that part... Bias much yes kinda maybe?

  • I don't have TV , tablet , laptop and desktop that's why I do everything in my smartphone and I need this phone.lol

  • Dramatic can be good or worse, it depends on individual. Huawei capture the water fountain day and night same blue that's impossible for sunlight and starlight, it is a 3D real world not the CGI movie like The Avatar.

  • Do you know Xperia Acro S, they state that it is the first waterproof smartphone with IP57 for android capacitive touchscreen phone. That's makes the difference! So they are the first to introduce it. The link your provide also exclude the Xperia Acro S?? Nani??

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Do you know Xperia Acro S, they state that it is the first waterproof smartphone with IP57 for android capacitive touchscreen phone. That's makes the difference! So they are the first to introduce it.

  • That add on you need to download first? Then take a picture twice and often say 'could not blur the background?

  • Oops. Dead links. These are the corrections, the legend of old liar:

  • Exactly. People dont understand how Leica-style photography works.

  • As i said earlier, i dont find the color looks far unnatural, its just a combination of higher contrast & a bit vibrancy than XZ3. The results? Looks more dramatic, exactly as Leica camera does. There are many terms in photography than just 'natural' & 'dull' images, as i explained in previous post. Now tell me, why every award winning photography in the world, all listed pictures looks not natural at all? Because its already edited, in results for more 'livelier' & 'dramatic' images that tells story. Thats what Mate 20 intended to and its deliver, by collaboration with Leica.

  • Nothing is WOW

  • Most people get a well usage, except those hater. I have immerse my Z2 into water but doesn't get damage, I wash it almost daily not because care about hygienic but also want to proof all the hater doesn't do so to their phone. Everything has been over criticize, why should we care about your opinion. Did you immerse your phone or wash your phone.

  • Sony created the waterproof earlier but LIED to people. Remember when sony advertised their phones can be used while swimming? Then when many people really did it and broke their phones, suddenly sony refused to take responsibility and then sony said not to bring the phones while swimming because the phone is actually not more than just "water splash resistant". Sony have hurt many people because of its half-baked features and its bad attitude to customers and also its irresponsibility. And sony asked premium price for all of those crappiness. Dont blame samsung for sony's failure. The reason why sonymobile becomes inferior is because of its own fault.

  • They never tested bokeh on XZ Premium nor XZ3. They said on XZP was seperated mode. Then on XZ3 was not pre installed. Always finding excuses. For other phones you swipe to access other modes, same for Sony. But they did not want too. What a coincidence the low scores came with new protocol. X Performance was the #2 in 2016. Just 1 point behind Pixel.

  • Wrong. Sony copied waterproof phone idea. LG/Casio was first with waterproofing. Also Nokia and Samsung were before Sony. Motorola Defy was first waterproof Android smartphone.

  • Yes good point. Sony was making premium phones while Samsung was making plastic ones. Then Samsung FINALLY decides to go with more premium parts, and everyone is praising them. WTF?

  • Yup. Its camera 2 absolut win. Camera 1 only has details, only airport picture i find it nicer, everything else isnt great, low light is bad if not unusable. I laugh when he said shilouette effect, its only bad dynamic range..

  • Example, Sony did waterproof no praises from people but competitor copy it for new phones people start agree waterproof is important for electronic products, do you really think it is most people or paid for the attention?

  • Refer to duration 5:00, it is much reality on Xperia XZ3, if you want blended color you can adjust the brightness to whatever level you want. The Huawei unnatural blueish water not only present on night but also same as daylight, please refer duration 5:12 the day and night has the same blue even there are no sunshine or sunshine, do you still believe what you see or just blinded by those color trick?

  • What u just show me a comparison that makes XZ3 camera looks bad. Side by side, looks like a mid range phone (XZ3) vs flagship phone (Mate 20) lol. Colors checked, to my eyes, Mate 20 colors looks identical to XZ3, it just add a bit vibrancy into it, but not to called as oversaturate. And for your info, thats a Leica-style photography. Check out images produced by Leica cameras, it looks identical as Huawei's does, and i kinda like it. Dynamic range, exposure, details, highlights preservation, contrast, low light capabilities all are on Mate 20 side, base on your link given. And the darker XZ3 images produces with the silhoutte effects? Mate 20 can easily achieve that with HDR off or using Pro Mode, but XZ3 cannot achieve what low light capabilities of Mate 20 can do, even fiddling with manual mod. Simple, u cant beat physics, larger sensor & pixel size on Mate 20 with a great computational on photography. Thats my opinion, and thats why at the moment, i'll stick with Huawei.

  • It means sony's bokeh is not good. That's why it fails the dxo test. It doesnt matter who did first. The most important is who did it better. I admit sony did many things first, but sony's implementations are often half-baked. Competitors copy it and do it much better than sony. Then no one care about sony anymore.

  • Sure, it will be the best sony phone. I hope it can beat Op6 or mi 8.

  • Sony introducing bokeh features earlier than any competitor, but still prefer the realistic not the bokeh added results. For low light, you can't take photo for full dark scene, what they did is only gimmick. The ToF also, who will take photo for two different angles at the same time? The extra zoom in is useful but it also shows no privacy to other people.

  • I am not bashing Huawei, what I say is truth. Perhaps you're not sensitive to the color, Huawei camera rendering the picture with more unreal cool color. Example The color on camera 2 is way unusual, you can only see it in Avatar movie, the blueish rendering is artificially especially the water. I just can't find out the photo dishes from my WhatsApp.

  • Well the Xperia 1 will have not only the additional ultra-wide lens, but the extra telephoto lens too. Plus for night shots the inclusion of OIS (in addition to the EIS they already had) will most certainly improve low-light shots BEYOND anything any previous Xperia which NEVER had OIS has done. No matter what, I firmly believe this will be their best camera yet.

  • True. The problem with phone camera are night shot, and zoom. I often have myself in the situation i need to take photo and i cant get closer, and if people try to shot moon eclipse, you only get black and tiny light, and finally there is a phone that can capture stars and moon. Bokeh also important, i mostly shot in portrait mode. So dxo and its protocol is the best.

  • And we know what happen. They want the profit for themself, but always post lost and tiny profit in 2017. Depend on significant tech like triluminos, or a fancy naming of quantum dot doesnt work. When they still with ericsson they was king, and brought many sony stuff, walkman phone and cybershot phone everyone loves.

  • Say what u want, my experience tells opposite than yours. After owning bunch of Sony flagship up until Z5, i give up when they introduce the X Performance, no cremental updates & overpriced at that time, given the specs. While i still using Z5 at that time, bought my wife Huawei Mate 9. And i start thinking about it after experience it, actually not that bad. Then i take the risk jump to Huawei/Honor, bought myself Honor 8 Pro. My god, the pricing, battery, ram, memory, built quality are a lot better than my all previous Sony phone. In fact i dare to say the camera are a lot better than all Xperia's i've own. But if u used with Sony, there are things that u want to stick on (media, UI). Its hard to let go. And then i customized Huawei EMUI theme to looks as Sony looks as possible. Take a look - Now both me & my wife rocking Huawei Mate 20, i even updated EMUI 9 theme with Xperia 1 looks - Its easy to bashing them when u have no experience with it. Well i do, using both Sony & Huawei phones, and at the moment, i'll stick with Huawei as Sony Xperia future is uncertain.

  • Protocol is changed based on whats users need. Most people use it and need it. So it's ok to change the protocol. You should blame sony for not giving what most people want.

  • It is all foundational as features and functions but why Dxomark include it as the protocol policy for the rating.

  • Xtra zoom and funky bokeh is much more useful than 960 fps that only last for 0.2 second. 960 fps is good, but most people don't need it.

  • Your taste is so China L. I am not going choose a China phone, the color rendering isn't my favourite. I still don't know why Dxomark can rate it highest score just for the sake of extra zoom in and funky bokeh!?

  • Xperia One looks tall because the width is little narrower and they use up the bottom bezel for the 21:9 ratio display, when compare to other recent stupid notch phones it just a few extra mm it isn't much different except has better grip for the taller frames.

  • Excellent explanation! Thank you Louis!!

  • 2019 biggest bust. i want a phone, not a remote control :( why sony, xperia xa2 is miles better than this

  • Sony acquired all Ericsson shares because they wanted to have a full control over the phone division and made them easier to add/borrow some features from another Sony division. Adding heavy features from other division like we have now (Triluminos,x-reality, dsee hx, playstation stuff, camera tech, etc) while still with Ericsson will cost more to Sony. The idea here is Sony Ericsson were 2 companies having work together, so if Sony try to add lots of features to the phone and the phone sold well that would give Ericsson more profit with little contribution. Thats not how business work, Sony would not want to give all its tech even though it would sold well, in the end the earnings will be spit between 2 companies. And so, Sony wanted to have it for themselves, by owning full share means owning full earnings and made them easier to plant all their own tech from parents division.
