Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact - User Reviews

  • Amazon may help....

  • I don't know where to find any seller that still sells this anymore

  • Absolutely agree with this post: perfect meeting of form/fit/function. Hi-res audio player with wifi, noise-cancelling, waterproof, great screen and sensibly sized. Had one for 2 years but broke beyond repair after 18 months. Time to upgrade and I'd happily stick with this phone but can't find any more. And, as you say, the new XZ Compact is anything but - and no longer waterproof. Shame.

  • Noooooo!!! The sharp has two (!) notches :(

  • hater...

  • I love this phone Z3 Compact was my previous fav (though I owned Z5 Compact too) But this is the best in the series (can't count XZ2 Compact as that's not really that small) And it really is a pity Sony is givin' up on small pocket-fit flagship phones

  • i agree with u, if SONY did not make compact phone anymore, i dunno what phone i can choose,I really love this phone.

  • 32GB internal storage really no enough, but i had insert a 128GB memory card, after took photo and choose i will transfer it memory card

  • me too,my xz1 compact also drop many time but screen still ok, i did use screen protector just use phone case only, really great phone

  • i had been using xz1 compact for 20 month without screen protector but got transparent case,i had drop so many time but the screen condition still very good as new one :)

  • The worthy successor of the XZ1 Compact is apparently made by Sharp:

  • I got it through my friend, from USA to India, more than an year back, it's working well

  • Hi, I'm so thankful to read this comment. Exactly what I was looking for. I'm having the same issues with the phone, the thing with the apps and locked screen and the GPS problems...And I've been using the phone for over 1 year now and its getting worse and worse. That sucks, because I've also wanted this to be my long term device. Always had it with the case on and it still looks like new and the battery is a banger. The camera sucks. I can't rely on this thing to take a decent photo. Video shots are quite fine tho. Regards.

  • If photo storage is a problem you could always upload your photos to google photos, just re download the photos when you need them

  • I wouldn't fret over wireless charging... It IS convenient, but it does put additional wear on the battery (battery is subjected to higher than normal/recommended temp during wireless charging)

  • Overall a decent phone with a couple of flaws. The phone is smooth, with a somewhat decent camera with pretty subpar night shots. It unfortunately crushes the blacks during night shots. It has a decent slow-mo camera shot, but outside of that it isn't any useful. I want to point out the biggest flaw of this phone. GPS problems. If you go on the internet, you will see the most common complaint about this phone is the GPS. It has the weakest GPS, often times dropping signal and has made me get lost in unfamiliar areas many times.

  • the best phone...but unlucky not much accesories for this phone like apple brand...ps4 controller also very hard to sync with this phone...japan should learn from china how to sync phone with controler and can use it to play mobile legend!

  • There is only one downside: no wireless charging :( Otherwise, the phone is amazing! Love it!

  • I've been using this phone for quite long time. And already drop for a few time but glass still not broken. Compared to my previous z ultra just fall once already broke. I think the plastic body and wearing case make big different because sony phone is fragile but this one is different due to polycarbonate body

  • My xz1 compact is running Android 9 and is still the best small phone about

  • Don't buy this phone. Glass will brake by its own, warrany service will decline free repair. You will have to pay extra 100eur to replace display! yes, display! because protective screen iz glued directly to the display. @sony nxet time most fragile part glue to the main board, it will be win-win: no warrany services needed and income will raise miltiple times!

  • How did you get it in India? Please tell me. I've been trying to get it for many months now.

  • Not sure if it's of any help but I had a problem with a camera on a z3 compact. For this it helped to: both clear the cache of the camera app and all cache in general (there it was in settings > storage > internal). Then restart the phone but not in a normal way: hold the power and volume UP button until it turns off. Then turn on by power and button down until Sony sign comes on. Maybe it works for you too..

  • Hi , you have SD Card options , with 1Tb .. BR .

  • I bought this phone and I don't see a "photos & videos widget"... How can I add that widget or install? Pls help

  • I bought this phone and I don't see a "photos & videos widget"... How can I add that widget or install? Pls help

  • I have this phone since it was released and I think it's the last good phone made by Sony. It's the best small high-end android phone in my opinion. It has everything I need. Stereo speakers, 3.5mm audio jack, good battery life, nice form factor, smooth performance, etc. The only drawback I had when I purchased it was sharp phone corners but after a month I got used to it and it's not a drawback anymore. Believe me, it's nothing compared to all the good things. I recommend this phone to anyone and I'm sad they don't make phones like this anymore because I have no idea what to buy next when my current phone becomes obsolete.

  • After having used it for around a year or so, I think it's a great phone and would recommend it overall. It normally works pretty well and looks good. The down sides for me are: -The sharp corners on the phone make it a bit uncomfortable in the pocket, -Storage seems a bit small. I'm always running out of space (it's always full of pictures)

  • See my post below, I got this phone for about 2 years now, and I started having the issue with the front cam about 8 months ago.

  • Has anyone used this phone for an extended period of time ? Is it worth it? Are there any issues? I'm looking for a small phone with high end specs and this one checks all the marks at least on paper.

  • Anyone else having selfie cam issues with the xz1 compact? The back camera works, but whenever I switch to the front/selfie cam, I keep getting Error "cannot start camera. restart camera or device" I've already tried the following but no luck - restarting the camera - restarting the device - clearing camera cache/data - factory reset the phone - installed latest updates

  • This is the first mobile phone I don't treat like a fragile art piece. I don't even have a cover for it. No screen protector. I dropped it numerous times and it gets a bit of paint come off its metal frame but that's about it. Now onto the main reason why I bought it:, battery life. AMAZING. I use both earphones and Bluetooth earphones. I was in 2 minds over to get this or new compact which has slightly increased dimensions but got this for half the price. The only slight niggle although it's not a biggie is the microphone button on keyboard for talk typing.

  • There are no GPS issues on the newest software (9.0). Locks almost instantly outdoors and uses GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS (even tho I'm in Europe).

  • Does it still have GPS fixation issues, or is that mostly resolved, or was that not widespread and only for a few people?

  • This was for sale here in Feb for €210.- and now you can't find it under €320 - 390. :-/

  • I sold my a5 and baught this amazing phone.love my black xperia docomo so_02x.all day battery timing.

  • I don't agree with your opinion about how A3 2017 has better camera results then XZ1 Compact. No way. in daylight situatuons, XZ1c is much better. Watch pictures on your pc, not on a phone. And about fingerprint sensor, position is okay because you CAN also unlocked with not lifting up the device or taking in to your hand. How on earth did you use it? Also.. Always on is good, but I would rather have collored LED notification light to inform me about new notifications from across the whole room. I believe A3 is you personal preference choice, but omg... Your reasonings are really biased toward A3, but I just can't underdtand why? Because the only thing A3 has better is the soapy design which makes it nicer to hold and Oled display. Everything else is on XZ1c side. I really don't understand. With this phone I could have 2 and half and sometimes 3 days with no problem, but with A3 day and half, barelly, even my Galaxy S3 had better endurance. I know we all have personal preferences but XZ1c is really a better device than A3 2017, but it's also quite expensier.

  • Big disappointment with this phone. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of nice things about the phone; screen is beautiful, size is perfect, very responsive and fast when opening apps, fantastic battery life, etc. However, the bottom line is the XZ1c fails in many areas. When the screen is off (not locked), and an app running in the foreground, turning the screen back on with the power button will reveal the app that is running, and that it appears to be functioning. However, many times the app will no longer respond to button taps and the home button must be tapped then the app returned to with the recent apps button, for it to become responsive again. The camera is a bit of a disappointment. Indoor pictures typically have a red/pink hue to them. Indoor focus is below average, and the inbuilt Sony camera app is not the best. Now to the real problems I have with this phone: The GPS is terrible! It relies heavily on assisted GPS so if you're out on a hike with no cell signal, it has a very hard time finding a GPS fix. Sometimes the only way to get the fix is to place the phone in airplane mode, start Sony service mode (*#*#7378423#*#* from the dialer), go to Service Tests, GPS, Purge assistance data, then start GPS Location test and wait (sometimes wait and wait and wait) for it to finally get a fix. It's a pain and sometimes needs to be done more than once. The accuracy of the GPS only (without assistance) can be poor compared to other GPS phones. Add to the list a couple of really annoying Sony bloatware apps that have notifications that can't be turned off. I really wanted this to be the phone that I would stay with for a long time but now I'm thinking I may sell it.

  • Probably the last sub 130mm height phone. XZ2 compact is 135mm, which isnt really "compact" even Xz1 compact is actually slightly too big vs Z5 compact to me - frame size is about the same but xz1 compact lcd location is slightly higher - so its harder to pull down top menu

  • Xz1 compact used is even way more expensive than xz1 on eBay. It sells for no less than £200, whereas xz1 can go for £140.

  • No double tap to wake but there is a Sony branded flip case that can wake the screen when opened, it works quite well- I have one for the XZ1

  • The proof of how good this phone is, is that I have just looked using the link here and price for used XZ1 Compact from Amazon UK is higher than I paid for it new one year ago.

  • Avesome camera quality and very fast phone. My last phone was xperia M5, but xz1 compact is much better, its smaller, fits in jeans pockets, its compact and good in hand. Battery is also good, lasts 2 days. Have owned 2 months, and no problems detected, and no restarts , even in cold weather -20C. Only minus is that phone housing have sharp corners, but if you use a phone case , then you dont hurt hands. I suggest this phone, Sony is back with quality :)

  • How to my xz1 compact mobile in India I'm trying this for a long time pls suggest me

  • Sony disable that option. You cant save apps to memory card. The only option you have is to root phone. That's one of them reason that I sent mine back for a refund. Another problem is on calls voicespeaker mode on option the sound is too low .

  • Can you change the font of the home-screen icon text to a different font? The Sony font looks too squeezed/compressed.

  • Installed an update this morning. It was a big one at 1.5gb. Device says Android 9. Is this what you are referring to.

  • Installed update this morning.

  • Hello ppl! :) I have a problem with the phone. Just one. Everything else runs nice and smoothly. :D But, when I call someone, or when someone is calling me, they don't hear anymore my voice. I can hear them, but they cannot hear me. Now, if I scream on the phone really really loud they do hear something...But very low. I have tested all the microphones and they work fine. All the tests were ok. If I put the headphones on I can speak without problems or if I activate the speaker modus. I have read hours on the internet about this issue and have tried all I could think of. That includes resetting the phone, google voice turned off and what not... But no effect whatsoever. Before I send it to service I want to try here, maybe someone knows something. Since January I have the Pie update. It went on the floor one time. Maybe it has to do with that. But what could it be, as I have downloaded some apps and tested the microphone and it works fine. It's as when on calls, the microphone goes very low in volume or mute. What I did noticed however, is that on settings - sound settings - active noice cancellations it remains grey, even if I had a headphone with noise cancellations on. It's frustrating. :D In rest it's a beautiful phone. A real horse power! Thanks in advance.

  • Still waiting for the official Android Pie update for the UK sim-free version. Come on Sony, what are you waiting for, Christmas 2019?

  • yes you are right. been hoping that there would be xz4 compact. so sad. sony is going with whole screen stupid phones

  • Hey guys! Im going to buy a 2nd xz1c (obviously cauze in Vietnam Sony didnt bring xz1c to our market), so im just asking u guys if this bae still good, does the pie mess it up? How it battery and it heating issue (im mostly using it on screen and semi heavy gaming). Tks for reading my question!

  • Im just going to buy an 2nd xz1c (obviously cauze in Vietnam Sony didnt bring it come to us), so im looking for a most honest review about this bae, is it still good and does the pie mess it up?

  • I agree. Unfortunately this is the last model from Sony worth buying. Looks like xz3 and xz4 don't have compact versions and don't have audio jack. Sony is becoming just another manufacturer of shovel phones.

  • Android disabled the option to store third-party app data on SD card. It's Android's fault, not Sony's. I don't think there is any way to change that.

  • Hi, I recently bought XZ1C and immediately updated to 47.2.A.4.45 (pie). I just realised after initial setup that the change app data storage location is missing. In my Xperia XZ running Oreo, this option is there. I tried below steps on XZ1C Pie but still this option is not there. 1. used sdcard from xz to xz1c without formatting - fail 2. used new sdcard and format via xz1c - fail 3. was about to try format sd as internal, option is to format only. Is this option available in Oreo only? Should I downgrade to Oreo? Can anyone confirm this is possible in Oreo for xz1c? Thanks in advance.

  • i love this phone, i use 1 year already, very small, batery amazing, very fast, and easy do a job, trust me...

  • It's now 5months. It's really powerful, fast, and scratch proof.. Also not expensive. No major complaints except YouTube.. Skmetimes gets stuck. Otherwise awesome phone.

  • Google voice unlock systems work on smart Lock systems in the mobile. Otherwise it do not work

  • Using for 5 months, played pubG with high res, never faced any difficulty, smooth like butter.

  • No FM radio

  • Gsmarena specs claim this phone is expandable by 512 gbs, however Sony's official page says only up to 256. Can anyone confirm this phone can handle a 512 gb microsd card?

  • this is actually a good design, but the top and bottom chin is just too big

  • Thank you. Guess I’m going to have to pass. I need assistant to work on locked screen. My wife’s S9 does but it’s too big for me.

  • You can use Google Assistant only after your screen was unlocked. For unlock the screen you need to use power buton, on xz1c it's not "double tap" option. About bloatware, we have a few preinstalled apps but can be disabled. Today (in Romania) I have received an update notiffication, I think it's Android Pie (1535.3 MB)

  • Anybody?? Questions please.... Can you use ok google when the screen is locked like Siri? Is there a double tap option to unlock screen or do you have to use power button? Lots of bloat ware?

  • android pie bugs sony has not realse pie to Sweden and the phone comes minimal blotwaer

  • My xz1 compact still didn't get android pie, I'm using it in India, anything to do with network?

  • check this:

  • Questions please.... Can you use ok google when the screen is locked like Siri? Is there a double tap option to unlock screen or do you have to use power button? Lots of bloat ware?

  • How is it with games? From what I managed to find on YouTube, it lags/stutters a lot on games like Asphalt 9/Extreme.. Can anyone confirm?

  • I bought it yesterday and I don't have android pie update why is that pls help

  • Motorola Moto X4 gets the android 9 update before the Xperia XZ1 Compact. Should i give up on buying Sony phones? Anyone wants better and cheaper. If Sony wants a price, they should make it worth.

  • Hi. Thanks for answering. The shop i saw the dual sim version is already out of stock. And can't find it anywhere in my country or even in ebay. Seems like i have to stick to the single sim version : (.

  • Yes, the dual SIM A3 2017 battery capacity is the same as single SIM so if you use the dual SIM with only 1 SIM then battery life is the same.

  • 2700 mah battery and 108 hours of endurance this means really great optimization.

  • Mr. Grumpy. Any insights about battery endurance in the samsung a3 2017 dual sim version. If we use that phone only with one sim the battery endurance would be the same as the single sim version of a3 2017? I rather buy the a3 dual sim, just in case from time to time i need a second sim slot. Thanks

  • Unfortunately i sent mine back for a refund. The speaker even in max volume on calls was to low, i couldn't ear other people. I've search in sony forum and it seems is a problem on this phone. Also the squarer corners hurt very much my hand, maybe I could solve that problem with a bumper silicone case, for people that have this phone a silicone bumper case solves hurting your hand problem? Holding this phone with one hand those square corners will get deep in your hand afternoon a while your hand hurts. :(

  • Not at all, XZ1 compact works smooth and cool, even after hours of use. I have it since the beggining of this 2018.

  • After several months of use, I find the phone fast and responsive. I can hold it in one hand, but The sharp corners make it difficult to grip at the ends single handed. Rounded corners would have been better. Very compact, fits on my pocket. Battery lasts 2.5 days with light use.

  • Ok, first impressions after 1 week of use. Phone is fluid, quick. Battery life amazing average 7h30 sot. Square cornes hurt a little bit typing with one hand. But maybe is my phone case (I've to buy another one ), phone is a little thick but not a big problem. Don't like the keyboard, camera is very good (selfie Coul be better ). I dont like the fact you can't put apps to your sd card ,other than these i like the phone is an amazing flagship phone on a compact size, last one of his kind unfortunately i think.

  • Yeap average 7h30 , sot.

  • Xz1 compact is more powerful

  • They're both excellent phones but I prefer the A3 2017 as it's more useful for me. - I like the A3 always-on display because it tells me what kind of notification I have just by looking at the phone. XZ1C has flashing LED but you have to pick up the phone and switch it on to see what the notification is for (email, missed call, WhatsApp, SMS, etc.) - The fingerprint sensor on the A3 is at the front. This means I can unlock the phone when it's on the desk without having to pick it up. The fingerprint sensor on the XZ1C is quicker and allows for up to 5 prints to be stored but if it's on the desk, it's a little more awkward to unlock. - Camera on the A3 is much better. The XZ1C camera is good for low light photos only. For everything else, the A3 camera is much better. - I like the stock Samsung apps. The email client is nicer than the XZ1C and at least the A3 comes with a proper file manager. The A3 has other useful tweaks like being able to answer calls with one tap instead of swiping and a proper blue light filter. The XZ1C blue light filter has to be enabled via a small ADB hack and even then it doesn't work properly (which is why Sony disabled it in the stock firmware). - The A3 is a bit nicer to hold. It's glass front and back slimmer and has rounded corners whereas the XZ1C is smaller overall but plastic and sharper corners and a bit thicker. However, if any of the below is important to you, then the XZ1C is clearly better: RAM (XZ1C has 4GB) Flagship specs Android updates (XZC1 has Android Pie and more timely updates) Storage (XZ1C has 32GB) Stock Android Size (XZ1C is a few mm narrower and shorter but a bit thicker) Battery life for both XZ1C and A3 is excellent though. I get 2 days heavy use from both but Sony software is more intelligent to condition the battery so it lasts for more charges. If you have a battery drain, check the battery settings for apps that are not being put to sleep or running in the background.

  • MrGrumpy i have this sony but i thing battery fast drain you thing samsung galaxy a3 is the better than xz1 compact?

  • Yes, battery life on the XZ1C is excellent. Overall though, I still prefer the A3 2017 as a small compact; great battery life, always-on-display, better camera, nicer software (don't like all the Google rubbish), easier to use fingerprint scanner. The only thing the XZ1C really has going for it over the A3 2017 is the 4GB RAM and Android Pie. I can live with the 2GB that the A3 offers on Oreo.

  • Hi ,long battery life?

  • If picture taking is important to you then go elsewhere. As a phone unit it's got a solid battery.

  • thanks! that's exactly what I have now - Z5 compact that you can fry eggs on and looking to upgrade

  • Does the new Android Pie have the text magnification bubble when moving the cursor? What about night light?

  • I had the Z5 compact, that was really overheating often. Now I have the XZ1 compact and no overheating problems so far.

  • Does this generation still has overheating problems?

  • Carphone here in UK just dropped it to £199.99 sim free.

  • Thanks, Xpericheck.com says that only Singapore is currently seeding Android Pie. Could use Xperifirm to install but will wait for the UK release.

  • Hi,i have this phone but battery very drain why?

  • I just got it today. No major different. Just some different in different positioning in camera app. Also diff is when u press volume up or down, the volume will show at right side of the phone. Gesture navigation not yet available

  • It is delayed i have heard on Reddit. i don't have it yet either.

  • No infrared

  • Anyone got the Android Pie update yet? It was supposed to be seeding from 26 October but nothing yet here in the UK.

  • Infrared ??

  • Ok thanks. Let's see if I can catch another fnac promotion on this phone , or wait a bit for price to drop. Corners are not big of a deal. Thanks.

  • "yellowish" tint is definitely not an issue on my phone, I'd say it's actually vice versa. Anyway, I think you can tackle the issue by raising blue in the white balance settings a bit, and green by half-a-bit. RGB -> 0 +1 +2

  • Corners are not that big of a deal. I've been using this phone w/o case for 1 week by now, either I do not pay attention to those corners or just got used to them. Anyway, getting a case very soon, because I know how unpleasant (finance and time wise) it could be when you drop it by accident and crack the screen.

  • Bump. -Can someone reply? Please. thanks.

  • I got my XZ1 Compact 2 days ago. It's the best phone to my needs but... The color of my screen are so warm and I have red-yellow tint in all pics. :( I have Z1 Compact from 2014 and compared to these colors of XZ1 Compact - it's real disaster to me because I'm photographer and I can't live with such red-yellow tint on the photos which I have to upload. I tried to fix this issue from Display settings, but white balance 0 0 0 is fixed on warmer base and nothing to do with my problem. Also try to change Color gamut setting but white is just a little yellow on this phone... I don't wanna return the phone, but how I could fix that issue? Please share some experience with that issue.

  • Question: how is the screen compared to the X Compact? Is it any better?

  • People, how is this phone about these sharp corners? On hand: do you get ustued to it after some time? On pocket (jeans, trousers ) - Do this sharp corners hurt you when you put the phone on your pocket jeans? Or you even notice? Phone does sell anymore on my country, only option are shops online, so I'm asking for users experience. The corners seems sharp on pictures /videos. This Is my only concern about this phone, since i don't use 5" phones i have to consider this one. Thanks

  • Yes. All compact phone has a bit problem during typing due to small screen. But i think typing on xz1c is better than iphone se

  • Yeah thx, meanwhile i got that by myself. Weird construction anyways.

  • It is like that. Sim card tray not come out together eith micro sd slot. U need to pull out the sim tray itself

  • I got it today but it came broken, you wanna know why?Sim tray doesn't come out, only the micro sd slot.Seriously Sony, that's the biggest joke of a sim tray I ever saw on a Smartphone.Tssss............

  • Oops, sorry, Z5c :-D . Got mixed up because I was debating which to get. Z3c won out for one reason: rooting without having to unlock the bootloader. Next phone I get will probably be this XZ1 Compact, as it seems to be the last with a proper headphone jack. I prefer the shape over the newer ones, with rounded corners (yuck!).

  • is the typing just as bad as the rest of compact phones?

  • I am absolutely agree with you

  • Made through the weekend with a friday to saturday overnight charge, way into the 8th hour of sot. Managed around 10 couple of weeks earlier. Legite successor to zr.

  • ZR seemed like a great phone. Always wanted one back in 2013. Was on the HTC One M7 at the time but the ZR felt nicer in the hand and love the multi-LED notification lights . The Xperia ZR was the only Xperia to be water-resistant and still have a removable battery and headphone jack. It was also quite compact for its time. Now we live in a time where everything just seems worse. Big phones Sealed battery No headphone jack Glass backs

  • I recently bought the XZ1 compact. I think it is a great value compact phone. But there is one aspect that troubles me a lot. The housing and screen of the phone strongly resonates at some (mid) frequency’s in music and speech. I am surprised how well I can feel the vibrations when I hold the phone in my hands. I also regularly have the listening experience that the sound is distorted by the resonating housing which adds an unpleasant vibration to the sound. Surprisingly none of the reviews I have seen mention this aspect. Is this normal for this phone or should I return this one and buy another one hoping that one does not have that resonating problem.

  • Had xperia xz 5.2 inch for 2 years, which served me perfectly, but i did damage the phone a lot as i am working on the building, so i bought xperia xz1 compact few days ago, what beautiful solid phone, couple days was strange for me because of the 4.6 inch screen, got used now, i love this phone, is fast smooth great camera, great great battery, headphones jack, what more u want. I could gone for xperia xz2 compact, but 5 inch phone i can't call compact phone , thick curved back not for my test, i like xperia z5 XZ xz1 design.Sony u should make compact phones similar to xperia xz xz1 series with fully screen, xperia xz1 compact fully screen 4.8 inch would be a perfect compact phone.

  • Can someone tell me what the available storage is after first activation of phone?

  • I hate the keyboard. I make so many typos with it.

  • They stopped doing this because only a part of the app was put on the SD card. If you want to install to the SDcard you have to set it as main storage.

  • After 4 years of using a sony phone, took xz1C and did not regret highly recommend

  • Same thoughts, but i think they can drop infrared for me, but i have to agree with your point

  • Z3c does not have any physical button for the fingerprint. :)) Did you want to mention another model?

  • With Z3c, the fingerprint hardware was disabled in the software, so all you had to do was get Flashtool and install a ROM that had it enabled. I think it is only the US and Canada that disabled the fingerprint reader, so install the UK or wherever ROM, and you are good. Flashtool has the Xperifirm tool built-in, so it has everything you need to download the latest official ROMs and flash your phone. If you want an older ROM, you will have to check XDA forums.

  • The only other option is a Samsung Galaxy A3. Much cheaper than XZ1 Compact and with a much better camera but only has 2GB RAM and 16GB storage.

  • Your options are very limited if small is key factor in your decision. IPhone SE is about the same size.

  • So which other phone would you advice me to buy.. noting I don't want a big phone

  • Just got this phone this week. Great hardware, but Sony have decided that you mustn't put Apps on the SD card (they say they're slower and less reliable on the card). You can't format your SD card as internal storage, and you can't even transfer any apps at all onto the SD card the old way. This means that you're stuck with the 32Gb for apps. Some apps struggle to see the SD card (but on the Sony support forums they say to format the card, do a factory reset and then format it again to fix this issue, and make sure all the apps that you want to use SD card for storage have the Storage permission.) I couldn't finish the transfer from my old phone and have had to delete a bunch of apps. :( Honestly, Sony, it's 2018 and you should at least allow us to put at least some apps on the card.

  • No. You want a smartphone that ideally has OIS in it. This phone doesn't and so a lot of pics look cartoony. It's a fast camera don't get me wrong, but the pics are average. I don't mind that since I am not an avid pic taker for social media. I do appreciate the good battery life. I haven't charged in 2 days.

  • it's good babe

  • How are the front n back cameras on this phone like?.... I'm a teen n snap a lot of selfies n nature and landscape shots.. looking for a small powerful phone to buy. Should I get this?

  • Just got this phone. Hardware look and feel very nice. Battery is as expected, long last.

  • Are there more product codes or only one is available for the enables fingerprint sensor? *more version = kind of what Z3C had, with a "good version" and a bad one with less updates and more hussle

  • So, any impressions so far? :D

  • I bought the device for its battery life. The camera is average.

  • i have a unlocked factory xz1c and i've seen monthly updates since i bought it back in december

  • Yes it does and I noticed that the battery drain faster when it's hot. I'm thinking of getting the XZ1C or may wait for XZ3C. hope we can still have a 4.6" compact phone not 5". 4.6" with a 18:9 aspect ratio may make the phone's foot print smaller... i think.

  • Does this model receive regular updates? And how is the camera compared to XA1/XA2, better or the same quality???

  • Just ordered this beast after long and a bit painful conparoson with xz2c. The price has had its final word tough. Will update after couple of months. An experienced Sony user here having used Xperia ZR for 4 years, still getting 3-4h sot with a 2300 mah, now hoping for at least 5-6 tough some xz1c users have announced it can last two or even three days with ease. We shall see...

  • I think you were just unlucky.

  • Bought one of these recently and given the professional reviews! was looking forward to the purchase I wish i had looked at customer reviews first as although this is a lovely phone and very fast it kept rebooting to safe mode when powered off, the only way i could shut it down and this is on the Sony site was to hold the volume button and power button at same time, anyway sent it back

  • What about the network conection

  • My xz1c has 21.65GB user available.

  • Yes, u can do it

  • How much of the on board 32GB is left for the user?

  • phone has to be rooted

  • Hello Users of XZ1 Compact , Does anybody know if the apps can be moved to sd card in this particular phone , and not just the videos and photos and music , can anybody confirm ? Kind regards

  • Battery life on my Z5 was among the best phones I ever had. I dont know what are you talking about

  • 4.6'' screen + 720p resolution + power efficient processor, scored 108 hours on gsmarena's battery test and it is written in the review and quote: "While the battery capacity was unexpectedly low for a flagship, the XZ1 and its Snapdragon 835 chip turned out quite well...The Xperia XZ1 Compact scored an excellent 108-hour Endurance rating in our set of proprietary tests. It bested all other Sony smartphones we have tested so far, and this is one of the best ratings in our all-time chart!..." It doesn't have a 3000mah battery because it doesn't need one, the phone is already 1cm thick.

  • Ah... OK

  • low battery as usual , sony , htc ,... They ruining their models with a bad batteries . I had very bad experience with z5 compact , battery drain so fast , and I'm sure same thing here. any phone with a battery less than 3000 mah = a waste of money!

  • Did you try Xperia XZ1 Compact and Galaxy a3? Before i have had Galaxy A8 2017 and a5 2017 and galaxy s7 and LgG6 and other older phones....but XZ1 Compact and the camera.....My wife has apple 6 plus and there is huge difference in taking pictures. Try to make quick picture of your child in cycle with Xperia xz1 and other phones... With XZ1 there is sharp picture with no blurrines. Take it out of your pocket and press photo buttom and there it is... a great picture. And a lot other things to. Batery life, good grip in you hand, water proff. From day one when i bought sony XZ1 there will always be sony.

  • best alternative might be the x compact.

  • Ikr.Ip6s and a3 have outdated specs and poor support for a3.So xz1 compact definitely

  • I think samsung A3 already got its last support, OS wise. My brother still uses his iphone 6 up until now and it still works okay. He's not much of a gamer though. He's still satisfied with everyday use of it. My friends still use ip 6s and they don't have any complaints nor reason to upgrade their ip. Xz1 compact on the other hand I have no comments on it yet as I've only just ordered it. Sony supports flagship phones with 2 software OS upgrades. So it is expected to receive android P and Q. So maybe support until end of 2019 or early 2020. You could also try to check xz2c. If you want a compact phone, I think there's only sony and iphone worth mentioning. I think either will give you great quality and compact experience. You can just also choose where you are more comfortable using, android or iOS.

  • so what do you think of a good alternative to xz1c? or does the xz1c is still good for the next 3-4 years ahead? i'm getting mixed reviews here and there.

  • Don't listen to him/her, that's one example of a naive review Furthermore, galaxy A3 versus xz1 compact?? really?? and iPhone 6s?? no please, go buy them and regret yourself.

  • Thank you for the comprehensive user review, now im starting to think about getting the samsung A3 or iPhone 6s over XZ1c.

  • I have always wanted to buy a Sony phone, because I was always fascinated with the design, battery life and improvement of this phone. I guess I have waited too long and got disappointed after 2 hours checking the phone and its functions out. I sold it the next day. You may not agree with my opinion but let me just write what I have expected and what I actually got. I have spent weeks on checking out reviews and opinions before I bought it. My previous phone (now still is) was Samsung Galaxy A3 2015 ( yes, the oldest version of A Series) and you probably think - that is a huge difference comparing to this Xperia from late 2017. Well, it is, but these 3 years difference did not really bring the Xperia XZ1 Compact to shine. Expectation vs. negative realization: -Size: I wanted a smaller phone and its size is perfect, but it is too thick (almost 1cm, and that is a fat phone when you have it in your hands) -Body: I thought I would go over the plastic back until I started to type, you can hear every movement from your fingers which are holding the phone on the back as you type. If Sony already chose the plastic - they could have at least fasten it properly to the back, it feels like there is some air between the back and the inner battery/hardware. It is annoying ( Be free to use a mask, I do not.) -Slots: The slot is very sensitive and to put a SIM Card in it is somehow tricky, but once you do you are happy that you did not break anything - the slots are made from a thin fragile plastic. -Rear Camera: Sony phones used to be one of the best camera phones on the market because they were ahead of everyone with fat pixels and nice sharpness. The thing is, their cameras are still the same as they were before. Even some "No name" phone is ahead of Xperia`s camera..So if you read that Xperia does give unrealistic colors to the pictures or the pictures are being oversharp - they are telling the truth. Although, focal lenght is good (Low light). Functions and options - Where the hell are they!? They have a small range of functions and options for the camera. Also, you can only take a 19MP photo with 4:5 format, and 13MP to capture a 16:9 aspect ratio. Macro photos turn out great tho. (All of this goes for XZ1 too) -Front Camera: It is, well, important to me. 8 MP should do, I thought. It would, if it did not have the same problem as Rear Camera. Shooting 8MP in 4:5 aspect ratio and 4 (or 6MP) in 16:9. The whole angle is really weird. It has an "advantage" of making a wide selfie and doing a one person selfie, the problem is - wide selfie has a fisheye effect and one person selfie is actually only a zoomed wide selfie. Pictures are pretty blurry, I turned of the beautification filter and they were still blurry. It is like the camera has always-on beautification filter and it is annoying. It does what old VGA camera did to pictures, they take a averagely sharp photo (today we say it is blurry) and then the phone itself sharpens it to death ( when you zoom the picture, you can see it is not clear or detailed, it is oversharped). However, the front flash functions nicely. ( All of this goes for XZ1 too, just more front camera pixel) -Fingerprint Sensor: Pretty unpractical when on the side, because there is no "Wake up Double Tap" - to check what time it is or such. You usually have to grab it everytime ( or register two fingers to make your life easier). -Battery Life: I could not rate that because I did not have it that long, therefor the charging is fast. -Software: It is impossible to remove " Do not disturb (mute)" notification, if you have it on. You have it in the settings, but it does not go away even if you set the undock option. It is tricky to type on such a small display, unless you get used to it ( I mistyped and corrected for an hour). Gallery is weird, I did not play a lot with it, but it usually shows you latest pictures when you open the Gallery, which means - latest pictures of everything ( Whatsapp Groups, Screenshots..). I prefer albums where each album has its latest pics. Expectation vs. positive realization: -Memory: It IS a fast phone, it works like a charm. -Software: It is nice, I could get used to pretty quickly. -Sound: It is a louder phone, but with clearer sound. In the end, I was somehow sad that I got so disappointed since all I wanted was the Sony and then I wanted to run to XZ1 ( Because of the body, more RAM, it is less thick..) but I realized that it has even a shorter battery life than this one and the camera is bad as it is with Compact. I am not interested in XZ2 because oh headphone jack ( not everybody has money for bluetooth, you manufactures!). I hope I could have helped someone who was indecisive about buying this phone. Sincerely, Luxx

  • I was affraid of sharp corners first (used Sam ung S4 mini before) but got used in single day, it is not clear at first sight but designer of this phone did it right. Also, fingerprint sensor integrated in power button makes unlocking very fast. I am extremely satisfied with this phone, speed daemon that can be comfortably used with single hand is what I wanted :-)

  • If you are looking for great camera, fast browsing, very good battery, fantastic super slow and fell in the pocket then....Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact. I am very happy with phone after 2 months nothing wrong. Only bad thing about it is missing of double tap and you must press unlock button and then tap unlock button for finger opening. I wanted this kind of camera - when phone is in my pocket just grab it and take fast picture which is great and fast almost no blurines

  • 14 hours web browsing? How the heck u achieved that when the average SOT is 6-8 hours?! Or have i missed smth?

  • Here you can do it, all steps clearly mentioned, it worked for me Don't worry if your firmware folder has less or more files, just do accordingly

  • I tried using it in sony store, the edge feel weird in my hand, maybe it will get comfy over time, but idk, Any suggestion guys?

  • So, in the end, do you like it more than the z5 compact? Any thoughts? Also, how is the camera? My z3c makes crappy pictures even on good light. :(

  • FM is being discontinued and moving to DAB in many countries.

  • Hi, You would need to flash a non US firmware update.

  • I heard that you can't enable it because it's something about the privacy in America. If you wanted a fingerprint version you should have bought it from EU.

  • Why new Premium phones do not have FM radio?! Z? Compact & X Compact YES XZ1 & XZ2 Compact, Iphone NO

  • My Xz1c doesn't have fingerprint enabled. I have bought it from US. Please help.. How to enable it?

  • Yes but u hav to install that plugin service

  • Any user of this phone, can you check whether it is ANT+ capable?

  • No, FM radio is not supplied. You will need a streaming radio.

  • You may want to update that some came without fingerprint sensor... like mine and I think all US versions.

  • Can someone out there using sony xperia xz1 compact tell me if it's not possible to download, install and use a native fm radio without using internet to stream with this phone. I still wish to have this phone but only if l can be able to use fm radio on it. Thank you so much guys, Langton

  • Hi, My Z5 compact would get hot if left in the sun on a hot day, battery didnt drain. There will be a warning advising not to use camera etc but phone stays on and functional. In winter it still works perfectly and does not turn off like iphone when in minus temperatures with wind. Battery life was always ok.

  • Just bought this phone to replace my four year old Xperia sp. It is excellent, about same size as sp, little bit smaller and lighter, same screen but ten times as fast. Fantastic battery life. I'm sure it will provide the same long reliable service as sp.

  • does z5 compact overheat or battery drain of sd 810 on normal use, not gaming just browsing, youtube etc.

  • Bought XZ1 compact. Really love that its the same size as the old ones, has the fingerprint sensor on the side (i fking love it) and has a headphone jack. Super fast and powerful - does not heat much. XZ2 compact has a way toolarge screen and fingerprint sensor is placed like all other weird phones. And no headphone jack. like mygawd. buy it....i owned z5compact and x compact before. Z5 was very good - x compact was ok but no waterproofing.

  • What decision did you make? I still own a z3c, have mixed feelings about XZ2 compact, and really considering the xz1c. Z3c works good, but I have 2 unresponsive small.zones, the screen comes off, and the camera starts to annoy me, as it is based af for what you can find today..

  • Its like day and night, just buy it.

  • is this worth swapping from an iphone se

  • I wanna know regarding sd card and fas charger for this phone.

  • That one doesn’t have radio, does it?

  • my XZ1c is usually in a case so I don't feel any temperature changes

  • If I run google maps, or skype or take video and all this for more than 15 minutes, my Xc heats up, not too badly, but when I did all this in hot weather, then it was s bit much. So this doesn't happen with XZ1c? Im hoping the bigger brain makes the difference...

  • I had the Xc and now have XZ1c. None of them had any heating issues. Only Z5c had this problem I believe due to the 810 SOC

  • Hi guys, is this XZ1c have same heating issues that Xc had under heavy usage?

  • I bought an xz1 compact recently because I'm not too happy about the upcoming replacement which seems to be heavier and with a longer display and worse battery efficiency re xz2 compact I'm happy with my purchase. It is the perfect size for one handed use. Very smooth experience. the selfie camera is very nice to capture environmental shots with the 18mm lens

  • big in small using whatsapp only for work and game for after work briliant faster phone :) nice sony

  • I also have wifi, data, location and Bluetooth on all the time as well. Wifi is off sometimes when I'm away from home though

  • I smell terrible specs.

  • Check out Galaxy A3 series dude, a Samsung 4.6~4.7 pocket phones :))

  • XZ1c. In short, it's a bang-for-bucks Yet, you should consider a discount period though Long answer in my opinion: I would say you have to go for the XZ1 Compact instead of X Compact because of: 1: XZ1c is more cost-effective with better packed features including the camera, camera software. On the other hand, the Xc was released in a time where we had... budget-tight Sony. Everything is mid-ranged, not worth an upgrade after Z5. Camera is good yet the software behind the viewfinder is bad, especially looking at HDR quality then, the phone heats to the point Camera has to close after abt 10 mins. The inly premium is the Snapdragon 820 yet, the 600$+ launch price tag is not right. The X (X, X performance, Xc) seems half-assed to me. 2. This results from the above point as well that due to those components, X is not well optimized. You will experience lags, RAM suffocates (only 3GBs for Nougat above is not enough), heat-ups and battery drained drastically. Dunno why. But even my Z3c does his job better than X Compact.

  • The XZ2 Compact is still smaller than an iPhone 8. 135mm vs 138.4mm.

  • Please tell which to have between this and X Compact? But name the reasons as well. Thanks

  • What other manufacturer besides Sony or Apple maked Compact 4.6" phones? None! The new ugly XZ2 Compact with its 5" screen isnt compact at all.

  • How about the battery life. Is it good? And performance, speakers quality and audio quality? Good?

  • Oo the camera question. Well going by what every other owner says, the camera is good, but not going to blow your socks off. I haven't tried it, but with a tripod and manual camera work you can probably take some pretty good low light shots. I stuck a 128gb micro sd card into my xz1 Compact because I enjoy taking lots of pictures and videos. You do lose clarity when you say zoom in on some trees off into the distance. I took the picture for the whole environment, not just the tree haha. I bought this phone for battery life, a size, and camera. I take pictures for myself and friends, not for social media. If camera is really important to you, I hear Pixel camera is pretty good, or even an s8. If I had to choose other than this phone, I would've gone with Pixel 2 (if it was cheaper) or Lg G6 (for the wide angle lens). In short: It's up there, but not #1 in smartphone cameras. Hopefully in future updates it improves. If photographer no, if you like taking pictures perhaps. For me it's great. I hope I helped you in your question

  • How was the camera? I planning to buy this phone. Thanks

  • Some people experience different battery lifes, and 1-1.5 days is my usual runtime. Highest usually is 4 hours screen on time watching some YouTube and a lot of internet browsing. I don't really play games on my phone.

  • More exactly around 18 hours, from 6am to 12am after normal social use.

  • I have not used the pixel, but I do own the XZ1 Compact. The battery life will easily get you through the day and then some with 4 hours of screen on time. I would say you will easily get 1 - 1.5 days out of this phone

  • Hello there, i suggest reading gsmarena battery life review for this phone here. This smartphone has one of the best battery life in smartphone world.

  • Hey, so I’m wanting a new phone for my birthday. I currently have a Z5C and recently the battery drain problem has been real. And so I’ve boiled my choices down to the Google Pixel or the XZ1C but not sure which. I really love Sony’s UI but I’m worried battery life is going to be an issue. Any unbiased thoughts? I’m not sure what I want from a phone, decent battery life I suppose and not too large for my tiny hands

  • Excellent reception. At the signal bar it's always 1-2 bar compare to my other phone on the same network which is 2-3-4 bar but somehow it's the same in term of call quality or data

  • Would be nice for you to link a specific source(s) vs just a general "shipping company's name" (Amazon) else you just are taken as a troll. I've read no reports of this ... Esato.com Forums, XDA Forums, Review on MobileSyrup.com or many other reviews from youtube. you see I've named 3 direct sites (2 being forums which you can isolate via XZ1 Compact, the topic at hand). You're naming a shipping company that has loads of regional sites and sellers to each region posting which reviews as you claim are customer feedback from devices shipped to them We have no idea how far or the condition of the XZ1 Compact shipped to customers from Amazon (dropped from a 3rd party delivery company at their door or handed to them with signature upon arrival or with a building superintendent. again source or it's just trolling.

  • Read Sony xperia xz1 compact users reviews here at Sonymobile.com.

  • Hey guys! I just read feedbacks on Amazon again and noticed there are a lot of complaints connected with the poor signal or a complete loss f the signal, as a result missed calls and SMS, in other words the most important function of the phone fails to perform. Those of you who have this phone is it true? Or has it become better with new update? Thnx

  • A wise choice, hopefully it will drop in price both in the regular market and in the used market. I am really wanting to grab one of these as backup device since the size and battery life is amazing.

  • Agreed, waiting for price to drop and maybe buy it...

  • This would be my last Sony phone I guess. XZ2 Compact is just plain ugly, no unique characteristic and design, utterly stupid 18:9 display and removal of 3.5 mm headphone jack. Disgusting move Sony!!! Oh wait, I haven't bought this phone yet as it's still expensive for my wallet. But as time goes by, the price will drop even further. I'll patiently wait for it. In the meantime, Redmi 4x serves me well so far.

  • and no headphone jack.

  • a real piece of shit just like the rest of the phones on the market. if people really want 5 inches screen with the same stupid design like korean/chinese phones. they don't need to buy sony fuckin compact lines phones... especially not in 600 price bracket. they could charged whatever they want for previous models because there are no other options, the only compact phones on the market just iphone se, for android phone, there's only sony compact line. the rest of the market only have 5 inches screen for their smallest size.now with this design changes and screen size and charge 600 euro? sony xa2 looks vastly better than xz2compact, at least from design alone. i'm very very disappointed with sony. if they only change xz2 design, i get it, they need to fight with other manufacturers, to get more market share, okay... xz2compact, they are the only one who produce this kind of phone, nobody else have this type of phone, why they ruin their own market. even nokia looks vastly better than xz2compact

  • I gotta agree, the XZ2 compact looks hideous, like a big fat hippo. Shrunk the bezels a little but increase thickness and height, slight increase in width... One handed use will be tougher with the 18:9 and bigger screen. And that fingerprint scanner placement is placed too far down for a smaller phone. I'd recommend anyone to grab the XZ1 compact when they drop the price after the launch and availability of xz2 compact.

  • i'm definitely going to buy this xz1c later after they lower their price. i'm disappointed with xz2c. who the hell call 5'' screen a fuckin compact

  • And what can you say about the evolution of Xperia compact phones so far? I'm still on z3c waiting for something decent :-))

  • Yup i was waiting for xz2 compact but without headphone jack i will buy this one.

  • Yeah, but no 3.5mm so i will buy a xz1 compact instead. Looks good enough.

  • which color folks for female dont want pink. so black silver or blue

  • the new sony xz2 compact is coming out people so camera might improve on that bit no big deal xz1 compact is fine its nice i actually on a iphone se which is very good too but is looking to upgrade to sony xz1 compact due to being waterproof bigger battery and also more grippy.

  • Still wait for sony compact series with 64Gb storage and dual sim card :3

  • It would be a great phone if camera would not be so bad....

  • what u mean 100 hours

  • small to handle with one hand and use other hand for sonething else lols. hate big phones easy to fit in pockets thanks folks for ur suggestions

  • I wouldn't be too concerned about the plastic body as it feels more like metal than plastic. It's nothing like the cheap plastic feel of the previous generation X compact. It feels really good IMO. The battery life is great as you can see by the battery score compared to the SE that another comment already mentioned. It's one of the few phones to get over 100 hours on gsmarena's battery test.

  • This size is the better option for real workers

  • may i ask why you prefer smaller phones? (for me, it's easy to handle with one hand and has better "balance") this type of fiberglass reinforced plastic material that sony uses will NOT crack, shatter or scratch!!!!! i would buy it just based on this material alone! excellent! my only wish is if sony used this fiberglass/plastic ALSO for the top and bottom of the phone. i accidentally dropped the phone on marble tile floor everything was fine except for the metallic part used to cap the phone at both ends (bottom and top)

  • Unfortunately it is not metal body but it is using "Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic", it is strong, durable, lightweight, temperature insulator, signal booster. Regarding to the battery you could at least take a look at the specifications page you will find the battery endurance, in this test the xz1 compact blew away all smartphones, it scored 108 hours vs 73 hours for the SE. The display, cameras are much better, front facing stereo speakers, waterproof design, expandable storage Micro SD card support.... Conclusion you won't miss your SE.

  • it has electronic image stabilization. its quite good with no moving parts to break down ...., when is the new compact coming out with the 845?

  • hi guys need some help i have an iphone se but is considering sony xperia xz1 compact but isnt too sure on the plastic body and battery would it be better than iphone battery? ive had my iphone for a year and half? any suggestions

  • The camera is not that bad as most reviews point out. It is much better than other phone cameras in the price bracket. OIS would have been helpful though

  • What about sony camera? they terrible on camera. They just blinded yourself with 960fps and 3d camera to cover their crappy camera.

  • Lol guess you have no clue about anything, everything in Samsung smartphones was started with Sony one or two years before, waterproof design, stereo speakers, on-chip memory followed by super slow motion, dual pixel, hardware cooling system.... To be honest both are catching up with each other, Samsung with tech and Sony with marketing, this is been always the case between Koreans and Japanese, Korean industry are like Chinese copy and market.

  • Samsung has long surpassed Sony and it is Sony playing the catchup. The XZ Pro is Sony's desperate attempt to finally catch up with the competition.

  • It is amazing, one of the in the market, the camera performance in low light has improved a lot with motion eye camera sensor, stay away from Samsung it is a crap if you are considering it, in general the Koreans still needs a lot of work to catch up with the Japanese in technology, or maybe they won't even.

  • Hello guys, I want some help. I really interested to this phone because i like compact phone its very good in one hand mode, but the camera always make me concerned, does this phone has been changed their camera? better on lowlight?

  • What're you talking about, since when Samsung slow down their phones? Again, Samsung makes a crappy phones? At least they've superior camera compared to Sony who has the worst camera ever made on smartphones. Wait until Sony completely beat Samsung on camera department and you can say Samsung is crappy.

  • You sure about samsung? I don't know if they slow down their phones but they do make some crappy ones.

  • I'm trying to choose from Nokia 8 and Sony xz1 Compact for a while now... I see that there are a lot of problems with them. I will stick to my Lumia 930 until they make a phone that could actually work. :(

  • Do all people have problems with GPS using the device?

  • Do people have problems with touch screen sensitivity together with screen protector on this phone? I and some other people have had such problems with Nokia 8:

  • At least they should put 64gb version on this device...32 GB is not enough for me :(

  • imo the display is completely perfect

  • Sony's platform is really nice to use. Not over stuffed with too many options to customise. Sony did really excellent job with this model.

  • if this had a better display I would be happy with this device

  • It's the best battery for a compact . In term of battery performance it's better than any 5" or bigger phones with bigger battery capacity. It only losesl to those with 4000mah and above

  • In love with this phone, great battery life, good speed, superb sound quality. The only drawback is mediocre camera quality. Upgraded from XZ5C, previously owned XZ3C.

  • 2700mAh? sad. i upgrade my z1c to z5c. but i hope my next compact have bigger battery.

  • I can't believe some people still complain about the screen size being small ,really? It's Compact version and you're ranting for a bigger screen i cant believe it. No 1080p no amoled super saturated screens , I mean cmon if you're looking for phones like those it's not here, try samsung ,galaxy s8 or even the new a8 would suit you.

  • Where's your proof?

  • At least we know that Sony doesn't slow down their phones, which Samsung does by default.

  • He was anti-Samsung. Don't believe him. He would encourages everyone to choose Sony phones instead of Samsung phones, while he don't know Samsung was big step ahead than Sony.

  • why? do you buy every xperia phone man? I see you commenting on all of them!

  • True. Sony camera was behind any other brands. Luv my S8 plus and xz1 i used as my second phone but its not bad btw

  • nice processor on this powerbank

  • I think camera in low light is average. Loses to Samsung S8, Iphone 8 etc.

  • Really LTE like that ?

  • Well it depends on how long you can hold the phone. Anyway my experience was 36 hours +- per charge with around 7-8 hours SOT

  • Did any one knows how long holding battery ?

  • LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 32, 38, 39, 40, 41, 66)

  • If you are concerned about the performance and thermal activities of this smartphone compared to the z5 compact then i will tell you that the xz1c is way step ahead and it is actually the best in its league.

  • Still thinking if xz1c or note fe still can't decide which one I'll buy..for now I'm using 1 yr old z5compact so lag already even browsing fb and messenger and heating issue still there can't play longer and take longer video

  • I'm not sure, the battery does seem to get zapped a bit when the phone is just idle

  • Quite a nice battery according to GSMArena battery test. If you play video 5 hours in a day and do nothing else the battery should last 120 hrs = 5 days !

  • I'm sorry, I don't believe it, but holy cow congratulations on your battery life

  • Well xz1c is not sony's flagship anyway. Maybe try the xzp or the bigger xz1 if you have a problem with the screen

  • As a former Z1c and now Z5c user, I wonder if it is time for an upgrade. The only thing that piques my interest is the 960 fps video. Nothing else in the world other than its big brother offer such a game changing feature. I upgraded from the Z1c to the Z5c because of 4K. But tbh (and as a video producer), the benefit is meh because of, well, noise and a poor OTF (no surprise though since this is cellphone we are talking about, not a Sony a7s). The Snapdragon 835, 4 GB of RAM, and Adreno 540 are nice upgrades and quite honestly if these weren't there, no way I would upgrade. Methinks this is one of the fastest phones on the marketand as heavy player of games like Asphalt 8 and Simcity Buildit, I have NEVER noticed performance problems. I am super glad Sony hasn't ditched the microSD slot. Between shooting 4K video and everything else, I am using 91 GB of my 128 GB card right now and a 256 GB is in my future. Forget the cloud. Also, dunking my Z1c in water, while cool, taught me quickly that this function is really for when it raining outside or you accidentally spill something on it. I am not really interested in taking my cellphone for swims anymore. I could say that the loss of FM Radio really bums me, but I rarely use it now anyway. Perhaps I would feel different if the Z series offered AM radio which I prefer for sports. I never understood why it didn't. Android 8 OOTB is not really that important to me. I am on 7 now with the Z5c and having been through numerous gens since the Z1c, it just doesn't matter much anymore imo. The development curve for Android has slowed considerably. Fingerprint I avoid. I disabled it on my iPhone because it drove me nuts. Lastly, I love having a phone that nobody else has. I have never been a follower of the trend and Xperias fit my personality perfectly. I have always felt like I was treating myself whenever I bought one and always unlocked. But now, with CES, I wonder if Sony is about to unveil an XZ2 compact.

  • Nope. I get 4-5 days every time. Now I have 14 hours since charging with 94% battery left and 35 minutes of screen on time.

  • Did this mobile will support 4G volte in India ?

  • Longest I got was 2 days with maybe 5 hours SoT iirc. Lasting 5 days probably from wifi/ data etc. turned off with the brightness to the lowest it can be. That's the only way I think that's possible. I remember reading a Reddit post in the Sony subreddit with some person showing off with the phone lasting a long time with a long SoT. OP didn't reply to me when I said their brightness was probably low with a screen dimmer.

  • Software repair through Sony pc companion...

  • I have this phone more than 1 month, the battery life is lower than I see here on other posts. I have the latest update of android, but the battery lasts max 1 day, with 4G all the time. The screen time is around 2 1/2 - 3 hours. What should I do, the increase the battery life time ?

  • When i bought my XZ1 Compact, i thought the same as you - FM radio must be really necessarry. Now i can say - it's definately not the real problem, cause I have unlimited data plan, so i can listen radio on the internet. And in the future costs of data will fall down, so it will not be necessary to build FM radio modules in smartphones. But there is other problem with this phone model: if you have been used Z series, you will not be satisfied to replace anyone of them with XZ1, just because there is no big difference (Z1/Z3/Z5 are old one, XZ1 are new one, but both of them are cool and neither of them lags). So, why should you buy the new one if the old one can satisfy all your needs? :/

  • I have Z5 compact and wanted to replace it with the new XZ1 compact. Due to the fact that it has no radio l am going to hang on to my Z5 compact. If Sony going forward is dumping the radio, it means after more than 10 years with them l am finally going to move on and find a new home. Thanks.

  • You must have tried the software repair through pc companion first, btw, auto focus has nothing to do with the grain, it is the steadiness instead, try to keep your hands steady when shooting pictures especially in lowlight or indoors.

  • I have used this phone for two months and have much to say about it. All in all the phone is good and stable, but there are some bugs that could be fixed by firmware updates (I hope so). Some of bugs and disadvantages I have expierenced: - loud, annoying beep from loudspeakers at the end of almost every call (even at silent mode) - sometimes the screen turns on landscape mode after phone calls (it can be undone by locking and unlocking the screen) - the fingerprint sensor works good, but its impossible to watch the clock without unlocking the display (I hate it, so i disabled the fingerprint sensor at all) - 3D scanner does not work as good as I expected when bought the phone - camera has good auto-focus, but pictures sometimes are grainy when zoomed in (after pictures are taken), furthermore tha camera app always prefers me to shoot series of pictures (even if I disabled this option) - shooting in slow-motion mode is inconvenient, in addition each time you can shoot only 1 second (or smth) in slow-motion - I dropped the phone on the wooden floor and unfortunately the original plastic back case (body of the phone) got smashed at one side (as well as LCD - it's a little smashed but still working) + battery life is pretty long + phone speed is really impressive, without any lagging So, I am waiting for firmware updates, Sony!

  • Achievable if u off it when u sleep and use it as dumb phone lol

  • FIVE DAYS? Wow! What is this, a DTC Gear Powerbank Phone?!

  • What the? You must be kidding around

  • i agree

  • 7-8 hours

  • How much is the screen on time?

  • this is the proof

  • Have it 2 month now and it is a great phone .. Battery is even better than the older Z3 Compact.. It can go easily 3 days with moderate use... longest I had it was 5 days.

  • Great phone, I just wish there was a case like an otterbox or something to keep it safe. There's nothing more soul destroying than your screen breaking on your phone. The fact that you can't use it and that your gonna pay €90 r so to get it back to normal. These glass screens are nothing but a con anyway. I have an old xperia E and if you bounced the thing off the wall a hundred times it wouldn't effect it. Fuck glass screens. Were being ripped off because they are well able to make tougher screens but they are probably getting back handers from someone telling them not too.

  • There is a horrible frame drop with the John NES emultator in this phone. Impossible to understand. Almost unplayable. That emulator worked even in a Galaxy S. But it seems like a flagship device with the last technology isn't able to run it properly.

  • Does this phone shoot dng format pictures? Couldnt find anything about it in google too

  • a month ago I told them that this little one would face this x and for half of what it is worth

  • i think they left it out because it drains energy powering the touchscreen at all times. i have it in my sony x compact: double tap to switch on and double tap to switch off. but you still have to scan your finger unless you don't want any security feature

  • Can you pls explain to me about double tap to wake option? Is it present in phone and if it's not present, will they bring that option in the future updates? Thanks

  • i no longer own phone! i dropped it one time already in a tpu type case, maybe that caused some internal damage from the shock of impact (?). the drop may or may not have effected the wifi performance. i don't know if it may be that fragile. it was dropped from waist level in a tpu case. no scratches

  • the only bad thing in sony phone is its corner. otherwise, one of the best phone in the market..and pls..would you mind adding double tap wake feature so the user have choice either tapping to wake or use the fingerprint sensor..

  • Since u like fm so much i suggest u go and buy a fm stereo $10

  • You would to try repair your XZ1C with software repair metode on Xperia Companion.

  • No FM Radio....No can do. More money for less options, no Thank You Sony

  • you're lucky! i like the wide angle selfie camera

  • No problem with my XZ1c

  • i sold my xz1 compact and bought the x compact because i am still a fan of the small form factor. there are no competitors that i know about with a good chipset. i couldn't solve the wifi disconnection problems. i suspect it could be related to the 835 sd chip set. im not sure.

  • When is this coming to canada????? Perfect phone specs in my book, bigger than an se but smaller than other android phones.

  • Can you pls explain to me about double tap to wake up option? Is it present in phone and if it's not present, will they bring that option in the future updates? Thanks

  • Have you checked aggressive switch in the wifi settings? On my samsung it switches over to data when it detects the wifi is slow if aggressive switch is on.

  • There are no perfect phone just choose the one you needed most.

  • Now if only they would make the same phone with the same footprint and 5.0-5.2 inch 18:9 1080:2160 screen it would be a perfect phone!

  • well said. I'm glad that someone did a serious review. I'm gonna buy this gem for my birthday. thanks mate!

  • Someone still really using and wanting FM Radio?! So 90's. Just tune up with some radio app and you have all the radio in the world. FM useless. Having this phone for some time now... I don't think I have been more satisfied with a (smart) phone EVER and I've been with mobiles since Nokia 2110 (released 1994) dudes! Lot of cheers on this one. Size - perfect. I've been struggling to find good phones sub 5 inches and been hanging on with a 5.2 inch screen for last year, which has been a pain which I got used to after a while. But now wow back in 4.6 inch and this is just so smooth to handle even with one hand and fits every pocket and place needed. I don't use any covers so this is extremely nice size. Love it. Action - fast, smooth, does whatever you want with nice pace. Screen - in this size 720p holds its ground very well. I have perfect vision and I see no jaggies. Serves well. Battery - this is also what I love the most. I don't have to think if it will last the whole day -> it will! After serious use including 3 hrs of Netflix I got 7 h 20 min screentime and still had 20% of battery left! Amazing. I think in my use it will surely last 2 days in a row most of the time. So pleasent. Cons... I have had zero actual cons until now. I'm so happy about it. If I need to say something as a neutral - camera. Still not so sure about the quality. I mean it is fine but it doesn't strike to me as WOW at all. It works and does it ok and that's is. I give my opinion as a serious amateur photographer for almost 25 years, if that has any value to it. Anyhow. Love it. Best smart phone I've ever owned!

  • Sony on Suicidal Mission 32 gb memory _USB 2.0 _319 ppi display _Single camera For a flagship phone Do you basics right....

  • Had an x compact a year now, done no damage to my pockets. In hand the corners and bottom edges aren't as comfy as my old moto x. Depends if you hold on the sides, or you have a finger on the corner/bottom.

  • I have the same issue as well. drops connection and does not want to connect. restart usually helps (fingers crossed)

  • Good in palm, hole drilling in pocket with its corner.

  • Wifi dropping i dont have clue why

  • I'm upgrading from a first gen Moto G, so size doesn't really mean much to me, the only question I got is regarding the more sharp corners compared to the rounded ones of the Moto G. How bothersome are they on the palm and denim pockets?

  • Your comment doesn't have any proof.

  • I have a black ZX1 Compact that seems to drop WIFI connection very very often and switch to mobile data for no reason. I have set the WIFI to always be on. I have no idea why it's doing that. I had a Samsung S8, Huawei P9, P10, and others mobile phones that have no problems connecting and staying connected to WIFI. It's not my router because I've tried other WIFI routers at different places all with same result: dropping WIFI constantly. Anyone know what to do? I'm disappointed with this behaviour. are you having the same problem?

  • ahaha is that ironic?:P ''oh no 8 seconds more what will you do now!!"'

  • You are right, as of recent youtube app on compact stopped offering HDR version for playback. The truth is that HDR i not supported, as you said.

  • Sooo jealous it wasnt available in our country:-(

  • Speaking as android developer - slow install time is very painful. It takes 2 seconds over usb 3.1, on usb 2.0 app install took way more than 10 seconds.

  • It's USB Type C. It has versions too like my Nokia 8 which is 3.0 USB-C.

  • Just received mine. The sound quality (through the earphones) is frickin awesome! Soooo happy to be back to a Sony after 6 years!

  • Seriously Sony, USB 2.0? in a flagship compact?? in 2017??? One word: Anywaywhatever.

  • I don't know the reason why it's not present, I don't understand...

  • No, that is just a YouTube bug. The XZ1C's display simply cannot display that content, whether you can enable it in an app or not.

  • I don't know but not yet at this moment

  • Anonymous can you explain to us? Is that option gonna be present in this phone or not?

  • Incorrect

  • Ii would say that option comes with all new Sony devices. Both double tap for screen off/lock and for screen on.

  • Can we do homework with it? : ). Seriously I don't like 5" size. Is too big. For well nothing. So this is the only phone I can buy nowadays. Hope the price fall soon. Lol

  • Can someone tell me is the double tap option present in this phone and if it's not, will they bring that option in the future update? Thanks...

  • It’s not pink pink. More like an angry coppery pink. Like sky on fire. But then i am a girl and i thought it looked too angry. I’d go for the blue

  • No . You cant do cooking with it

  • bro, is there any heating issue in this phone? does it heat like other sony phone?

  • Wrong, its a known problem on Sony phones. There is a fault with Sony software affecting this.

  • Usb OTG in this phone?

  • Have you used the XZ1 compact before?

  • Its Skypes camera interace drivers problem, not Sonys cam. Ask them for better Oreo compatibility.

  • I have the same question! I've been waiting for ages! .. well not really "ages" but..

  • Not at all impressed with this. - no FM radio - no magnifier bubble when editing text - stupidly priced - bland design that doesn't look or feel very good - camera still iffy (give us a better macro and focus instead of slo-mo capture) The only two things Sony have actually improved hugely over previous Compact phones are: + battery life is fantastic + the position of the volume buttons is now spot on (should have been there years ago)

  • Guys, when is this phone releasing in Saudi Arabia?

  • You can actually watch HDR content on the xz1c..

  • you can say those 7 extra ppi but still retina sounds like the best thing ever made for displays

  • How your suggestions are going to fix skype unable to focus?

  • Lower the resolution in low light, try out manual with hdr on. Use touch to focus, and it's better to use the onscreen shutter button in low light.

  • Pixel phones are the leaders in manufacturing bugs.

  • Extremely, i mean extremely, shitty camera (eu version). Feels like some crappy chinaphone (very bad one). In low light cant focus with any decent speed (old lg g3 would focus in any light). In skype cant focus on the person talking at all (focus on infinity instead of the person). And coming from moto g 1st gen they really could put at least an hd screen with oled. it is not like it is a very cheap device.

  • Quirky question: does anybody notice a difference in thickness feel on the side with the power and camera button compared to the other side? When I tested the X compact I noticed it was slightly fatter/thicker to the touch than the left side. I think I read a comment that it's because of the batter pack being there and the camera button electronics? It drove me nuts :) Thanks

  • you're so right, 16:9 rules, maybe the bezels on top & bottom can be slightly trimmed, so let's just hope that the news of Sony switching to 18:9 screens is just a rumor, like many other rumors that never came true..

  • Pixel 2 for better screen, stock android, faster updates, and one of the beat cameras around. XZ1 Compact if you want a smaller phone and better battery.

  • You need to read a little more regarding ppi and p. An referring to Pt 2

  • Perfect phone. Great battery life, size and perfomance.

  • 1. its 480 on ebay 2. still isheeps call retina the best -_- ,its also 320ppi 3. oneplus aint half the features and only noobs would buy that cuz front stereo, hi res audio, waterproof,sd card 960fps ,3d trick and.....(if you want a basic phone better buy essential cuz for special features like basic needs is 700$ 4.SE is a joke compared to this tbh, cant say more

  • brah you probably used z3c xz1c is in another league compared to iphone se software is were sony is superior than any other oem

  • after using z1c's worst camera I still believed in sony and my xc proves sony do have great camera .specially in daylight its equal to those 90+ rated phones easily and many reviewers are saying xz1 series has the best sony camera with there camera has best detail in zoom thanks to the M.Pixel

  • I am thinking of buying this phone to replace my iphone 6. I have two numbers and two phones, one is a Note 8 and the other iphone 6, but to replace the iphone I would like a smaller device like this XZ1 compact. Now I doubt between the blue and pink color, I like both but I am a guy. SO the pink color... on pics it looks a bit of copper/pink combination, how is the color in real? In shops I only had a hands on experience with the silver color. None of the other two are on display.

  • Hello I have this xz1 compact and I think I may have a problem with wifi. Somehow I believe the wifi connects and disconnects a lot off on off on off on... Somehow isn't so stable I guess. Anyone experience this behavior? I have set always on during sleep so I'm not sure what could be the problem. Mobile data seems fine.

  • Got my numbers wrong a bit, but a slightly wider 18:9 display could be 5.3" in the same device size.

  • The pixel is no where a compact smartphone, get the xz1 compact since it doesn't even has a competitor.

  • This or the Pixel 2? I want a compact phone which isn't made by Apple or Samsung and I don't know which of the 2 to pick

  • Check out the photo comparison tool. In daylight this camera is easily among the best, in low light alright in manual mode 8mp with hdr on. Problem area is indoors and/or when dynamic range is really high.

  • There's not much hdr content right now, only a small selection of videos on some services.

  • Go for XZ1. HDR10 compliant does really big change on color reproduction if you want better display. But for compact size and better battery life, go for XZ1 Compact.

  • How in the world a 5.3" would be "compact"?! There is almost a literal ton of devices with that screen size out there! Let's keep the compact on its roots, that's what this devices is for: little (sub-5") and powerful (flagship SOC and camera).

  • XZ1 Compact for sure. Better display, camera, battery life, speakers, fingerprint, WiFi and more. But if u want iOS, then iSE is the best way for you. Btw I suggest you the Sony's phone. It's worth.

  • I have Z5 Compact. I am between XZ1 and XZ1 Compact.I love compact and I think 5.2 inches it's a little big for me but XZ1 have HDR10 compliant. What do u suggest ?

  • Really bro??

  • Go for Sony phones with Motion Eye camera (XZs and newer flagships). It really does have good camera. For alternatively, you can go for S8. I used S7 edge and it really does have amazing camera. So S8/S8+/Note8 will the same. You won't regret with their speed performance and unrivalled camera.

  • I like the selfie camera.. It is more wide angle than s8

  • What about the camera? Is it the same level with s8 or iphone 8? I love my z3c for the speed and the battery until today but i really hate the camera. The quality is soo low compare to samsung and apple. Now i want a speedy phone with good quality camera, should i stick with samsung s8? I just dont want another crappy camera after z3c

  • I just noticed i can watch hdr content on youtube eith the xz1 compact, even though hdr is not officaly supported. Anyone know more about this? It looks great!

  • Sorry, no radio sadly

  • radio..?

  • Can anyone tell me where i can buy this phone in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan ?

  • That's one of the most irresponsible statements in this thread.

  • i hope sony make a compact phone with dual sim card, thats will be great

  • Yes . Comparable to those bigger sizes phones with 3000-3500mhz battery

  • I get around 6-7 hours screen on time. And the standby time of this phone is amazing. Right now I'm typing and can see battery percentage 87% with SOT of 1 hour

  • Ohhh really!. Actually i wanted to write SoT but you know typo hate me so much. 7-8 hours is great because nowadays smartphones have bad battery life due the bezel less trend and thin body that made the battery become more smaller. I hate that

  • I would take slightly more screen width and 17:9 in the same sizes, would move the compact and premium to around 5.3" and 6.3".

  • I too certainly hope they wont. 16:9 with some less bezel is the way to go and differ from rest of the bunch. It just feels better and more immersive than elongated screens

  • I've been using Samsung for a great deal of my smartphone experience. S4 to Note 4. Now I have my eyes on this fine gem. I'm tired of being like everyone else and going with either Samsung, Apple, or even LG. Sony is unique in its own style. Slightly smaller bezels are welcome, but please Sony, don't hop onto the band wagon.

  • XZ1 Compact is much better and faster too.

  • I've got the x compact, satisfied 11 months in, waiting for oreo and later the next compact.

  • Soc is a ic or chip referring to the processor and other components , while sot on xz1 compact , for me 7-8 hours

  • that makes sense............ enjoy your xz1c! it's the best device on the market so far

  • sony whatever you do ....... do not give us 18:9 display (i know youre planning to). it feels so unnatural to watch videos and use the device in general. yes it does fit in the hand better but this ratio is terrible for video and i can't get used to it (i had s8 previously and couldn't adapt to this ratio. please do not follow this trend of 18:9 displays...... its just wrong.

  • How much Screen on Time(SoC) did you get?

  • You know why , because of its size and design

  • No, I didn't see any problem in adaptive screen. I was very confused which android phone to buy. Finally I decided to go with Sony. I already have used S8+, honor 8 pro. But this little champ made me stunned. I am also using iPhone 7 plus.

  • Where is FM radio ???? That's the area where Samsung A series becoming a clear winner over Sony compact phones.

  • Do u experience when set to adaptive screen light , the lighting not so stable?

  • Just got a silver one. Super fast and snappy. Charge remains for a long time. Never lags. Display quality is better than my iPhone 7 plus.

  • No its an high end phone.

  • I thought it will be about 499 euro but in malaysia it becomes so cheap, RM2099. I see every phone that has been released and when it comes to malaysia, the prices will be cheap lol. I'm so lucky to live in malaysia lol

  • Yahhh thank you for the opinion

  • The price is truly cheap around RM2099 (420 EURO) which very far from XZ1 with RM2999 (600 EURO). Can be considered to be my next phone and replace my horrible Xperia X.

  • They've done that so you can swap sd cards without removing the sim, so no reboot required.

  • i bought one! im very happy with the size and sleek design....... i thought my micro sd card tray and sim card tray was broken because they were not attached together. i was ready to go back to complain then i realised its designed that way. i thought the sim tray was supposed to be stuck to the main tray

  • This phone is superior. The design is sleek and elegant. I owned black color. Screen and camera is great, the stereo speakers are loud and crisp. And the battery life is good, i got two days battery life with moderate use. And the phone performance is very speed, im not a sony fan boy but theres alot of video comparison in youtube and this lil boy humiliate those expensive and over rated smartphones. I sold my daddy shark xz premium and bought this baby shark xz1 compact. And im very happy and satisfied. Cheers. :)

  • True, everyone is selling their Samsungs. I love Sony and HTC, I am jeeping all of my old phones.

  • Probably not, it is a high end phone.

  • Will XZ1 compact launch in INDIA ?

  • Thank u 😊

  • No one buys a Samsung mobile for long term use, get this phone.

  • @Surficial lol, wrong quote.sorry

  • if you want a long term usage, you should pick sony. i rarely seen someone still using the same samsung phone for 3 years without problem. yes sony also show some problems after 3 years of using it, but samsung already showed all that problems within a year or one and half years usage

  • Can anybody tell about the incall volume loudness of this phone? My use is in noisy environment/outdoor mostly. Is the in call volume loudness at par with samsung A series? Also any one has idea about its cellular and wifi reception? Currently using galaxy A5 2017.

  • Xz1 compact has better battery life according to gsmarenas and phonearenas tests.

  • Is it xperia xz1 compact has more better than s8 in real life usage? Some people said s8 has better battery life than xz1 compact. I can't decide which one should i buy. I want to use a phone for a long term usage. I hope someone has using s8 or xz1 compact give some info.

  • Kuala Lumpur

  • NEVER! i bet if someone can make it heat up, this 10nm processor inside this smartphone is amazing!

  • Beautiful, size is superb but they should come out with a much thinner phone and 2 sim cards.

  • Which place?

  • Great phone for compact phone lover Good quality design and built Fast and smooth Good battery can last from morning till go to bed at night with medium usage So far no overheat , hang or lag I can say worth the money , around usd490 at my place

  • need to have wireless charging and dual sim, with less than 8mm thickness would be great.

  • Waiting for the dual SIM version. Hope Sony will not disappoint us this time

  • Any heat issue in this phone , especially in gaming ?

  • Heating issues were gone with 2015, the only way to make this smartphone heat up is to put it on a hot plate XD, the 10nm processor inside this smartphone can never overheat.

  • This phone is a little too expensive at the moment in The Netherlands. Especially considering it only has 32 GB and no OIS. I don't mind HD display on a small display, especially with the Snap 835 it's perfect for performance. But it's 600 euro while the Galaxy S8 has the same price, the iPhone 7 is around 630 and the LG G6 is even 480 euro. If this phone was around 500 euro it would be a more reasonable deal. Of course it has just been released so that's why it's a this price point. Hope it'll drop in price soon.

  • i think sony and other japanese manufacturers learned their lesson. they used to put everything on R&D, always go for the leading edge, and made a wonderful high quality products but no one could afford it. when you see those made in japan label you know the price going to be insanely high, then korea and china came offering a good products less reliable but a much cheaper price.so people when after it, it's affordable. then one by one japanese manufacturer loses their market and stop or sold each of their divisions these thing happen with US and european manufacturers. back then in the 50s, japan was the today korea/china. unreliable products but way cheaper. and so many companies went bankrupt. this is just a cycle.

  • that,s right 👍

  • that's would be great if it has 64gb internal storage and dual sim capability..

  • Any heat issue in this phone , specially in gaming ?

  • And after 6 monthes with OLED, you have a screen burn in...

  • I hope some fine day Sony makes a 4 inch variant of this device called Xperia Micro, that would blow the socks off iPhone SE.

  • Don't even compare, iPhone se is no match for this smartphone in anything, anything gets in your mind from display, cameras, battery, speakers, performance..... The xz1 compact is way better, except the price of course, if you want to save money then the x compact from last year is still better than iPhone se for almost 300$ only.

  • this or iphone se?

  • Could be a perfect Z5 compact replacement if it had ANT+, but Sony want that runners go for Samsung devices !

  • I understand how USB and device makers use them. But it doesn't say what amperage they use. So I'm still left wondering.

  • Don't ask, just buy, unless you want to wait the price to drop. You know it is a compact smartphone ha?

  • Could anyone recommend this phone? Planning to switch from op 3T is it worth it?

  • traded in the Z5 for this (since Z5 on 7.1 has horrid battery life) and for me one hand control and typing and long battery life are my priority. So far battery life is very good - updated the software when striaght out of the box. easier to use with one hand than 5.2" Z5. some issue with brightness sensor. Got it for around equivalent of GBP370 or US468 after some credit card rebates. On top of that the shop offered around GBP125 trade in for the Z5. (this is all in Hong Kong, btw, and there is a free power bank, screen protector, clear case, extra 12 months warranty from Sony) My point is anyone going for a smaller phone wants one because of its size. Even if you say a onePlus or xiaowhatever costs less with much better specs you are missing the point. if size isn't the matter, they would have gone for another model. unless there is another 4.6" phone there is not a competitor. btw, i watch videos on my Z Ultra with 6.44"

  • 3 hrs SOT? It cant be

  • because it does not have dual sim???????? it's about rubbish.

  • Definitely right, they would need less battery capacity, but the Sonys JOLED project is not ready yet, it says that it is going to be ready in early 2018.

  • And the battery life may be stunning 130 hours

  • If they d put OLED screen they could make compact thinner. 1-2 mm may count a lot.

  • i actually prefer s7edge design to s8. g6 has better design than s8 but g6 just way too big, not comfortable at all to handle.if people want to go phablet. galaxy note is the only way to actually utilize all those big screen otherwise its just a phone with big screen nothing else, you just wasting battery life for compact phone, 720p is the perfect resolution.still hd, and it consume less power compare with higher resolution. its compact phone, is it really make sense to put super high resolution screen on small size phone? by the end of the day it's just 4,5'' screen.you need to look very up close to the phone to see the pixelated. i wish it's oled though and seriously stop comparing it with iphone se. its android and ios... not everyone want to use ios, probably one of the reason why people kept buying android phones even though android phone cost just as much as iphone. if iphone se could run anrdroid. sure throw it in comparison. but i think iphone se like 4''. it's just way to small.one hand operation is perfect but the screen just way too small.it's not comfortable to navigate those small screen, not to mention typing. again 4.5''-4-8'' just really a right size for compact phone i know the big problem here is the price. but last time i checked the only compact phone with high performance on the market FOR ANDROID is only sony. so maybe if other brands stopping the screen size war and actually produce a high performance compact phones maybe we could get more competitive price. but until then you have no other options.its either buy this or don't

  • You are in a wrong thread kiddo.... Phablets are other sections. And while you re at it, why would you buy S8? People are not happy with that phone, has more than half less sales than S7 did, and that tells a lot. There are a lot of, even much cheaper, and better phones at amazon than that. And You can get a XZ Premium for 550 now. And...on subject, Oneplus doesnt even offer compact, best Samsung offers in compact is A3...which is seriously crap when compared, even for its low price. Iphone SE is cheaper now but...cmmon, who wants that except apple fans....this is a much better device and thus more expensive. Iphone 8 costs 200 more, and it is not a better device.

  • Hi Sony. Would love to buy this phone but.... 1. Cost - far too much. You can buy a S8 from Amazon for £530 right now. I know its bigger... but really 64gb and much better screen.... 2. Screen - only 720p LCD. Would have liked even a 720p Oled version. But 1080p better. 3. storage - you can buy a OP5 for same money with 128gb and more RAM and better screen 4. Iphone SE is smaller and a lot cheaper. If you sold this for £350 I would have bought it even with the lacking hardware. But £500 is far too much.

  • maybe this could help

  • yeah it's called free market if the market full of stupid people, that's what you've got, garbage in garbage out

  • Hello everyone i need feedback from users about this phone battery life (daily heavy, normal usage). Thanks!

  • Its a shame all vendor are hand in hand in cheating the customers they have flooded the market with 5" mobile until now, from 2018 foldable phone with compact form factor will be released to generate revenue if people start using one mobile set for 5-6 years revenue generation will be minimised mobile vendors are playing with consumers needs viz a viz requirements. 1. Remove user replaceable battery started by Apple so that handset will not last more than 4-5 years since apple hardware is much better compared to Android hardware therefore handset might last for eternity which apple does not want. 2. Remove SD card from mobile started by Apple iPhone 3. All new handsets difficult to repair post Samsung Galaxy S6 including replacing glass which cost 20% of the cost of handset is it really that expensive answer is NO. Since consumers have started repairing handsets for 100$ instead of buying 600$ new handset. 4. Introducing handsets 5" and above later bendable phones will be realsed which will be under 5" but can be expanded to 6" and above Samsung Galaxy X is an example.

  • I just bought this phone but im not that impressed, the camera is still meh, the design is slightly better than the X compact, no more glossy back

  • Z5c vs XZ1c XZ1c pros: -Android Oreo out of the box (will be updated to the latest Android OS) -8MP Front Camera (sacrificing HDR) -720p 960fps Main Camera vs 120fps -Bluetooth 5.0 vs 4.1 -Quick Charge v3.0 type C vs micro USB 3 w/ Quick Charge 2.0 *still thick with thick bezels and the same 2700mAh irremovable battery *UGLY for a late 2017 phone *Why is the flash waaay over there!? (look at the pictures provided by GSMArena) *too Xpensive Z5c pros: -OS Update stops at Android Nougat -23MP Main Camera -FM Radio with RDS -5MP Front Camera has HDR *looks better design-wise *waaay cheaper now Click here for direct comparison of specs: :)

  • Sony has never made dual SIM Android phone in compact version.

  • Why the dual SIM version removed from specs? Sony decided not to give a dual SIM version of this? Very disappointed. Sony please give a dual SIM version also

  • It's really+truly+obviously... Great! Please look at... *2700 mAh battery according to 129 x 64 x *9.3 mm What the capacity in present days dear Sony!? Hun xD

  • I mean 50', 60's cars : ).

  • Man there are people that restore 50's, 60's is ancient design too. Hey its metal alloy and heavy chassis. So if you rather speak on a phablet / tablet. Is your choice. Btw companies should have at least one compact model below 5". And not produce year after year 5" and 5"+ rubish. I don't own a xz1 compact. But let the price drop and I'm thinking on one.

  • Fast charging has nothing to do here with USB version because the phone makers use higher amperage over old USB version. I have Sony Xperia X Compact similar with XZ1 and the USB port is 2.0 with C connector, so it does not support video neither fast data transfer, however the power supply provided is above USB 2.0 amperage at 3A and the USB cable provided has the number of wires like 2.0 but thicker like for 3.0 so it charges fast the phone and that is why they ask not to use other cable than the one they provided. So they use a messed up implementation, not respecting any standard and questionable why so many phone producers put USB-C port with data capabilities of 2.0 and special, thicker 2.0 cable in the box.

  • Is the charging port really USB 2.0 Type C??? I don't mind coming from a Pixel with more resolution. But slower charging is a deal-breaker for me. This is a shame because a smaller screen and better chip would have meant even longer battery life :\

  • Love the design of the compact phones.. it is very durable.. I currently have z5c and for more than 10 accidentally drops, it is still perfectly fine. I believe that this xz1c will be the most compact, powerful and durable phone available right now. Can't wait to upgrade on this.

  • Saying that 2700mAh battery is small on the XZ1 Compact but then doesn't want to bring iPhone 8 with 1821mAh (or Galaxy A3 with 2350mAh) into the comparison table is just the stupidest way of "trying to win a losing argument".

  • omg this phone is too ugly. outdated design and ancient ui. and plastic frame

  • Its Hybrid in XZ1 not sure about compact me too looking for this info clarification will be welcome.

  • Well please take a look back at your comment you talk about battery capacity that why he/she give the example of ip8.. Really is there any person with such a brain like yours

  • Frankly, I saw a lot S8 user using their phone with a flip-case in one hand, but I found that there are quite not handy just like they missing something to hold it firmly.

  • High price, big bezels, low screen T.b.r, f/2.0, FM. r and... No Sony this situation is intolerable! Where is you less bezels phones!? What's happened to Xperia Zeus!? To Sony! Open your eyes man! Only look at Aquos S3

  • So this small beast got a rival in battery life Sony Xperia xa1 plus 102 hours endurance rating.

  • could iphone 8 running android?

  • May I ask if the dual sim variant of this phone a hybrid one or a dual with a dedicated micro sd slot type?

  • If you want an android phone this size, the best competition is the midrange previous compact, that's why this is a rare breed.

  • definitely, android users avoid xperia because it is too ugly. meh

  • Are you joking? The XZ1 Compact has one of the largest batteries for it's size, with possibly the best battery life. It's 587mAh of battery life for every inch of screen. 2700mAh battery with a 4.6' display. The S8 is 517mAh per inch. iPhone 8: 387mAh/i. Google Pixel: 554mAh/i Nokia 8: 583mAh/i LG V30: 550mAh/i HTC U11: 545mAh/i

  • im talking about sony dude, not apple. the ugliest android phone in the world

  • Really its a rare breed ? What about iPhone 8 isn't it same size as xz1 compact These people should stop writting reviews because they look more like paid reviews by some tech companies or the people writting them are completely ignorant

  • iPhone 8 only has 1821mAh battery, and 2 GB of RAM. :)

  • Z5c vs XZ1c XZ1c pros: -8MP Front Camera (sacrificing HDR) -720p 960fps Main Camera vs 120fps -Bluetooth 5.0 vs 4.1 -Quick Charge v3.0 type C vs micro USB 3 w/ Quick Charge 2.0 *still thick with thick bezels and the same 2700mAh irremovable battery *UGLY for a late 2017 phone *Why is the flash waaay over there!? (look at the pictures provided by GSMArena) Z5c pros: -23MP Main Camera -FM Radio with RDS -5MP Front Camera has HDR *looks better design-wise *waaay cheaper now Click here for direct comparison of specs: :)

  • LOL. sony's battery capacity is too small. and qnovo is just a gimmick, unproven tech

  • Great job Sony on release of thus FlaGship beaSt compact!

  • smaller screen size, lower resolution...people seems to forget screen consumes a lot of power

  • Why is the endurance rating higher than XZ1

  • Only thing I miss is the FM radio. Why do phone manufactorers remove that nowadays - IP streaming of radio is not an option everywhere, and consumes a lot more battery power and bandwidth. /Patrik

  • I bought an HTC U11 thinking Sony had given up on selling top of the line compact flagships after the Z5 compact. Wish it came in black, but it looks like Sony made a small monster of a phone here so it's cool. I now have some buyers remorse thanks to this, but it's very good to see Sony hasn't given op on the high end sub 5 inch phone market.

  • Yes definitely, but ironically people will keep ignore because it doesn't have the fruit logo. This compact smartphone is one of the biggest hits this year.

  • This phone is more worth than iPhone 8

  • No LTE bands listed yet?

  • I used to have the Sony SP. I now have a Xperia X. Which is great phone. But its too big. I should have purchased the x compact. My next phone will be a compact.

  • some people want suv, some people want limousine, some want a sedan, some want a small compact car, a coupe at the very least. same thing with phone, not all of us want suv or limousine size for their phone. is this something really hard to understand? it's like saying if it's not suv or limousine size then it's a shit car. very nice logic. i wonder why all these car manufacturers not just producing suv or limousine

  • because of people like him, manufacturers keep producing retarded phone every year and always getting more retard each year. do they really expect people watching series/movie on smartphone, really? people have this great media streaming service like netflix, and the only device they have on their mind to watch all those great contents are smartphone not even a tablet. therefore. bigger screen, better image quality, less bezel. 4.5inches too small. it is to consume media, but i want a phone. if 10 inches tablet very practical and comfort to use for phone call, i don't need smartphone

  • But what actually is the reason to buy Sony now? It is the only compact flagship android phone out there. That's the it factor of this phone.

  • Neither of those phones have the features that XZ1 compact does.

  • The reviewer is too hung up on the screen size. Does not miss any opportunity to criticize the screen like "the resolution is pretty low compared to the competion". Except the only competition is iPhone which has the same screen resoltion & ppi. Also "users woud want bigger screen real estste to use the flagship specs". Well then they can buy the XZ1 or XZPremium, cant they? Seems like the guy does not understand the point of compact flagship at all.

  • Damn!! SD 835 on a 720p screen!!! It's probably the only android phone capable of running Minecraft with HD textures+shaders at a constant 60FPS. To those who've never played Minecraft, yes, this game is very resource consuming - probably the most resource consuming one in the playstore.

  • I had a Z1 compact, now have a Z5 Compact, and both worked ok. But I think a design change would be needed (fitting a bigger screen, narrowing the bezels).

  • Those specs made the price of this phone high. You have waterproof at ip rating 68,dual stereo speakers that are 50% more louder than xz and x compact(clarity very good cuz i already tried it,i would choose clarity than louder speakers with distortion sounds), it has better stabilisation in video recording than the others(should watch the reviews in youtube), have durable design) , big battery(2700 mah considered large in this size, close to double ip7's battery life), audia enhancements(dseex, 24bit and more),has ips x-reality engine and triluminus display(high quality ips screen and more natural looks and don't have issue about burn-in), has wide selfie camera, top-notch chipset(it scored 60fps during the benchmark and even beat ip7), smooth experience and gaming with lag-free and will get 2 years or more updates from sony. I think those things deserve the money.

  • How its battery life when in heavy usage such as watching YouTube and playing games non-stop and the SoC.

  • I'm also noticing a singificant battery life improvement over my Z3C. The SD835 is likely the big player being so much more efficient, and hardly needing to work with whatever I throw at it. The doubled ram also helps with efficiency, my old Z3C was always having to reload apps in the background if I left too many things running.

  • The only interesting thing/option in XZ1: aptX HD

  • LOVE this phone! Battery life is amazing!! Got all the apps I need installed, 48hours done and still over 35% left! Love it! Got the phone for 477,-. Money well spend!! Fingerprint scanner is so fast! Very good upgrade coming from a Z3compact

  • In Sony Site, it is not dual sim. If it is dual sim , it is very good phone

  • Literally the best phone out there. Perfect size, perfect amount of ram, perfect chipset, unlike last year's x compact, and it also has front facing speakers and a headphone jack. Bezel size is overrated. It's not that big.

  • Woow I dream to purchase for 600 euro that great iPhone 6s since 2015 with "lots of features". Maybe the features are iPhone has a radio, no sd card, no IP67 and more tones of other "No". And last but not least: why you should charge your phone once in 2-3 days as you could charge it 2-3 time in a single day with all these great iphones! Iphones can have price 1200 euro and it's normal for their "lots of features", but the best and only compacts by Sony cannot cost 600 euro.

"Heavy price tag, for this price you get One+ 5 or Huawei Honor 8 pro or iphone 6s with lots of features., Sony guyz, reduce the price orelse your market will drop gradually."

  • I thought this is around $400. Now I'm just gonna cry in the corner T.T

  • Excellent phone, what happened to the speaker? why is it so soft?

  • Heavy price tag, for this price you get One+ 5 or Huawei Honor 8 pro or iphone 6s with lots of features., Sony guyz, reduce the price orelse your market will drop gradually.

  • il sit this one out, as good as this compact phone is im now looking forward to the new bezeless designs sony are gonna be doing, especially the compact. im hoping it has a 4.8" screen but the same size footprint as this compact, give or take a mil or 2. Now that is gonna be awesome if sony gets it right.

  • When your lost the 4G signal, did it fall back to 3G seemlessly or left you with no signal unable to make/receive calls and no internet access like mine?

  • Exactly... Why Sony dropped FM radio? After long long time they come up with a flagship in compact size.... But what actually is the reason to buy Sony now? -They dropping feature by feature, so they strip it down that except that compact size (I cannot handle anything bigger than that), there is nothing which would attract me to buy it anymore. - no FM - Contacts app with no Group support - No answering machine - still lot's of bloatware - Can go happily with iPhone SE now...

  • Look @ the price... its way too much overpriced. The screen could have been @ least 4.7". Camera lacks OIS thats a Shame, you take a blurred shot @ night for 36000Rs/ 600$/500£, not acceptable. The phone is supercompact but the price is super high. Ifbit was launched for 25000Rs/350£/400$ it would have been sensible. Sony needs to think a lot.

  • I had the same problem with a fluctuating 4g signal on Xperia X Compact. The 3g signal was good though.

  • Never used radio on any phones

  • I am getting huge signal strength fluctuation with this phone. It keeps going back and forward between full signal strength and no signal at all. Sometimes I have to wait 15-20 minutes to get mobile data at all where as I get full stable signal with the same Vodafone and O2 SIMs with other phones. This issue makes the phone unusable. Anyone else is having this issue?

  • Most of flagship phones nowadays don't provided with FM Radio. Very bad

  • il take the upgraded specs over the radio. The X compact is rubbish compared to this. If only they gave it a better design..

  • How can Sony drop Radio?

  • Well carriers make money from higher data tariffs, google makes money from play music streaming and manufacturers benefit from carrier relationships. I think they're might be pressure from google as well, or sim free phones should come with it.

  • Maybe, if it has the proper frequencies. The other problem is even with the right freqs, Verizon still has to "white list" it on their provisioning list. I am all for free markets, but breaking up Verizon like what happened to Ma Bell back in the 70's would not break my heart. So tired of their monopoly over such a large segement of the cell phone market here in the US.

  • Another great phone with the FM radio cruelly ripped out for no good reason. I'll stick with the X Compact at less than half the price.

  • Is it possible that this phone could work on Verizon using VoLTE? I understand that there is no CDMA network to fall back on if out of LTE coverage, but checking (googling) the LTE bands, 2, 4, 13 (which are also Verizon's) are supported.

  • great, Sony rules man, enjoy your new XZ1 Compact. :)

  • Yeah, it'd be great if Sony did like Motorola and included all radios in the US version. ):

  • If Sony made a CDMA version, even if it was only unlocked, I would buy this phone in an o stant. So sick of Verizon's lousy selection of monster screen phablets posing as phones. I want something pocketable that still has some horsepower when needed. This Sony design fits my requirements perfectly. And no, I will not buy an iPhone.

  • thank you friend last night I read all the review and I will really buy this that the bevels must have a bad one at the time of dropping the mobile I prefer to stay with Sony for years I use this brand

  • I have also X Compact.. so far very good phone.. i think im gonna skip this one.. and wait for another model with a bit better camera..

  • Exactly!!! You hit the point. Great useless glass design and bezel less for nothing. Protected with ugly thick cases, but yea its important that the phone is less than 8 mm thick, coz with case you have 10mm. A phone is still a tool for communication and information. Unfortunately not for most of the people anymore. My Lady broke her s7 edge glass even with case, just waiting how long the s8+ will last. I'm definitely buying the xz1c its small and powerful and durable. For entertainment I have a tablet. And yes I have big hands but small pockets. Once I had a z3c, was stolen, but the xz1c is the next good Sony for me. cheers

  • sure, but not everyone like ios. could iphone8 run android? otherwise what's the point comparing iphone8 with a phone running android.

  • also bigger size screen. that's also contribute to power consumption xz1 compact is a practical phone. people bitching about screen size, low resolution, bezel. this is still an HD resolution in 4.5'' screen and i like bezel on my smartphone because i'm still handling that phone with my hand,i need a solid firm grip. i also like a little assurance if i drop my phone, it still survive.i don't mind dent in the chasis but bezel less design, i don't know it might survive i just don't have the courage to drop it just to test it,sure people would argue just put a case on it.so you preaching about beautiful design and yet you put your beautiful phone on an ugly case, what's the point having beautiful design, this is not a paper weight. and i still have laptop and tv. if i want to consume media entertainment i'm using that device, not my phone. 4k in 6'' screen if that's your thing, go ahead but not everyone like watching video in 6'' screen. you could put 8k resolution on that still it's a 6'' screen unless you want to to carry 15'' screen smartphone. oo wait that's called laptop

  • what will setisfy your desires ? A rectangular shape ?

  • At last sombody says the most importent thing . The best screen size phone

  • Without expandable storage ofc.

  • The most unreasonable shortcoming is the lack of full hd resolution. Bigger resolution = lower autonomy and less perfomance. XZ1 has full hd, but it endurance rating 82h versus 108h in compact.

  • sorry, i want dual-sim.

  • read the paragraph at the end of page 5 of the review. The XZ1 Compact is the fastest, the smoothest, no heating, no hanging up, it's superiorly amazing!!

  • Do dis sony.

  • where do you get a dual sim XZ1 compact? some outdated old spec on a Sony homepage said Dual, but that was updated. all I can find now are regular 1 sim compact XZ1

  • Nice phone had it in my hand in Carephone Warehouse. But not for 500 quid! Especially with 32 GB. Should have 64 GB option. I can get iPhone8 from US for 520.

  • woah...!! you took the words right out of my mouth bro. i cant understand how people can't see what is actually unique, and what actually looks the same. total idiosy lol.

  • @people bashing square body - at least it is something different, not like all other smartphones that follow the same idiotic design. I think this design is great, comfortable and well looking and I hope sony sicks to it for a long, long time. Place 20 smartphones on the table, the same colour, hide manufacturer logos - which phones you can identify - probably none, even iPhone look now identical to the rest.

  • boxy rectangular body form always a deal-breaker for me to buy a sony phone from Xperia Z3 compact. it`s not comfortable when I put the phone in my pocket. so, no for this too.

  • I have been using sony phones for a quit a while now..I used to have xperia sl, z1, z1 compact, z3 compact and currently z5. i must say its compact series of phones are the best.

  • make everyone a chorus gsmarena already does the review for this phone model I want to see the face of many when this demon has a better performance at all up his competition

  • Still waiting for this to upgrade from my Z1 compact.. Still no signs from Sony to release this in India.. Hopefully they will release this phone soon in India. :(

  • I think the situation should be clarified thus: "The US version does not ship with the fingerprint sensor activated. Flashing to the firmware of a different region (say, the UK) will alleviate this."

  • I really like my X Compact, but... Holy moly, that battery life might make me a believer in this one!

  • That battery is life! 108hrs endurance rating for the most comfortable screen sized phone, SONY just take my working great z3 and kindly replace it with this BEAST!!

  • I am pretty sure that it has been solved since XZP and SD 835

  • Look at info page.. It says battery test : 108h

  • U.S. for sure

  • Hello guys, is anybody buy the xz1 ? Is heating problem solved like the all xperia ? Thanks

  • Can any XZ1 Compact owner share its stock loop wallpapers and plain wallpapers please?

  • Which countries won't have fingerprint sensor included?

  • True.. I also became a fan by experience

  • All my Sony phone(w8,sp,z3) are working fine without once being in the service center except the w8 its too old so I kept it in a box already while sp I gave it to my sister and z3 i am using right now its been 3 years. I thought to buy this one as I am quite fed up with my z3.

  • Photo quality results are also up, and are pretty impressive! Even though it uses the same sensor as the XZs and XZ Premium, there's much more texture detail and much less noise. Check the "good light" test and point the camera at the donkey to compare the difference. Much more hyped about this phone now!

  • I got mine on launch date(21Sep) HKD 4000,little boxier then x compact but lighting fast, camera seems same with 4k and slow mo add on, Audio is a star of this device, i only find one issue or eye fatigue is android running on background notifications in notification and lack of Cases.

  • waiting for the revision of this aweson beast phone I really want this phone the only thing I would like to see in a compact is a go blaster with the thickness of this phone should not be a problem include in the package Sony takes note thank you

  • So you have problem on software not hardware ?

  • Or more likely its a teething issue with oreo, like the alarm clock failure.

  • z3 compact is very good phone and this new model good too....but nothing change in new model ...design and screen is old :(

  • You are terribly wrong sir. Sony is the only smartphone I'd gladly buy even without a warranty due to its quality as proven by my experience using two of their phones for more than two years straight and not even a single time I had any major problems that needs me to go to their service center.

  • Not probably... You definitely wanted to say Samsung instead of Sony, Xperia smartphones are the cleanest smartphones besides iphones and Google pixel, nil troubles, however, Samsung and Huawei and some other brands are used to be the second name of word trouble, based on my experience, for every Sony mobile lifespan you need in the other hand at least two Samsung mobiles.

  • The problem is, this is the only high end real compact phone(under 5 inches). I am going to buy it but backed up with insurance :( Sony is the only brand which has largest number of cases of "Sudden death"(Phone dying lying idle). I have Z3 compact died overnight in Feb 2017, bought mid 2015, it boots up sometimes but charging circuitry seems to have some problem.

  • sony indeed has terrible quality control. you will always find these 3 things after you buy sony's phone: 1. Trouble 2. Trouble 3. Trouble

  • If those things happened in third party apps, don't blame google or sony but app itself. If happened in sony apps, wait for the next update. Just be patient.

  • It's because efficiency of chipset, software optimisation and screen resolution......

  • The SD835 has far better efficiency than the SD810 and SD650.

  • Released in Hong Kong

  • Yes. What I can do is to wait for the next updates.

  • This phone is not released yet, it is Coming soon. Exp. release 2017, October for it status, how can you bought one from the market?

  • Try a different keyboard, others might work as normal.

  • Oreo is more efficient than nougat (with apps designed for oreo). But mainly it's because it moved from a 28nm to a 10nm chip which is vastly more efficient. Screen brightness for z5c was done at 50% brightness which was 106 nits, versus 200 nits standard after they changed the test methodology. Z3c was likely also at a lower brightness than 200 nits, meaning this is a notable improvement over that aswell.

  • could it made phone call? text messaging? other features and apps straight from sony are working? you need to differentiate the problems of the third party apps, the os, and the phone itself. if only certain apps could not work properly especially if the apps not being made by sony or google, maybe just maybe that's the apps developer issues or even the os

  • better efficiency from the chipset? maybe also the screen consume less power? there are other things could contribute to power management other than battery capacity

  • Endurance rating of 108h? Is this for real? Has the same battery of z5c and x compact. How can battery be better?

  • If I am not able to type, what is the function for this phone?

  • Mostly, apps not supported in android oreo even some apps not supported in android nougat, so no wonder here. These happened because android versions will be developed every year, so some apps can't catching up the updates to make their apps stable....sorry for my bad english :')

  • Will considering it on my next upgrade. Wanna how much it will cost in SG ?

  • did it happen with other apps? it's probably apps issues with oreo. did you encounter other problems on xz1 compact?

  • Cat15 = 800/150 Mbps... 8))

  • Finally! A Compact that has overthrown the Z3c endurance rating!

  • I bought this phone in 2017-9-21, I guess the first launch date in HK. Does anyone know most of the android apps have not been updated to support android 8.0 oreo? The problem I am having is whatever the touchscreen sensitivity, Line, Wechat and Whatsapp that will jump out to the main screen when I was typing for 2-3 seconds. I replaced the new phone already but the problem still exists...

  • amazing compact smartphone

  • Totally my next phone, worth every bucks. Long time not see phone with endurance rating more than 100. But where's the review?

  • alot of people saying the xz1 compact will come with single sim only .. its right guys ? .. if it's right .. it's will be disappointed ...

  • Guys! Endurance rating has been posted: 108hrs!!!

  • I suggest to those who don't like it, just don't buy. I could buy this, because they aren't cosmetic on their changes, they really want to improve the quality of all the phone, then the beauty is the next step. They are focused on quality and professional features. They are made by professionals, for professionals. They aren't built to be fashion, but powerful, highly useful and durable. I'm a fan, and not by accident.

  • ugly

  • Me too, plastic industries have been evolved dramatically. So, there's so many types of plastic and very expensive plastics. Actually plastic more durable than metal.

  • I agreed, there's a lot types of plastic. Btw,not all plastic are cheap. I think this phone very brilliant for what it offers for compact size. My only complaint is it should be at least 64gb storage rather 32gb storage and more colour options. Other than that are great.

  • people seems related high quality material especially in phone used with metal. it's only aluminium. if it's using titanium, berylium, platinum, and all those palladium ruthenium and stuff.okay that's something else. just because it's plastic or plasticky doesn't mean it's low stuff, all the hypercars cost millions dollars using carbon fiber, and that carbon fiber is not metal. fiber glass has been using in motor racing before, some of old school ferrari using fiber glass

  • Cheaper and more flexible than carbon fiber, it is stronger than many metals by weight, and can be molded into complex shapes. Applications include aircraft, boats, automobiles, bath tubs and enclosures, swimming pools, hot tubs, septic tanks, water tanks, roofing, pipes, cladding, casts, surfboards, and external door skins. Heck, that phone is as durable as my bathtub....give me that quality plastic over glass or metal any day! It wont scratch, dent, break, peel off... My X Perf already has scratches on the metal back. Now I wish it was indeed this FG plastic used. When paying flagship I expect flagship rate material, be it highest grade reinforced plastic alloy, highest grade glass, or highest grade metal alloy.... But seems to me high grade reinforced plastic is the best solution for premium quality afterall...

  • Phones are not only hardware. Hardware alone in XZ1 compact would cost only around e250. But don't forget you are paying for warranty, updates, no bloatware and some extra features, which almost no other brand offers, such as front stereo speakers, hw camera button, fingerprint scanner on side and original (professional looking) design. Sony is like a white knight going against the sea of Chinese/Korean brands copying each other's design. I have pre-ordered the phone with full warranty in my country for e600 including the free e200, headphones. Can't complain.

  • Still better than every other flagship camera out there today

  • Glass has a low conductivity compared to metal, yet the xzp has no issues with overheating, proving sony can deal with the heat produced with their recent designs.

  • Ahh my bad. Yea I wish they could lower the price. But again small size phone with high specs, there are not many options

  • the camera is shit though

  • Release date? 09/2018?

  • I have see Prices only 599 EUR (Germany, Austria) or 559 EUR (Slovakia, Czech r.) - nothing lower. On preorder is only with bonus Headsets (Sony WH-H900N or WH-H800N), but still with the same Prices.

  • Have Dual SIM version dedicated (NON HYBRID!) Memory Card Slot?

  • Xperia XZ1 compact is adopt the glass fiber reinforced plastic unibody design, it is a great material too. SOURCE: I won't explain to you, try learn something yourself from wiki: glass fiber... SOURCE: (PS: the glass fiber REINFORCED plastic is extra quality and durable than normal fiber glass)

  • That turned out a mistake on the store part, nobody could pre-order it for that price because the site was broken, now corrected as said the price is 500 pfund in UK. @Ali Bashir. Unfortunately, SD card isnt solution for gamers because you cant put apps on SD card even if you could wouldnt worth it because corruption issues and slowing the phone to crawl, becoming as a bottleneck. Even the most expensive SD card is slow like a snail compared to UFS storage. Still this phone has its plus side: 720p + 2700mAh seems to be insanely good combo, plus probably will be awesome at gaming, 720p taxing less the gpu than 1080p would.

  • those pricing problems happen in certain countries. if you live in that country then you need to find better deal, you still have options. you just don't generalize it for everyone. i read if you pre order, it's 399 usd or euro if i'm not mistaken not sure which market though. i wish the phone have cheaper price but if you're looking for a compact size phone, there are not a lot of options out there. you compared it with iphone se, iphone using ios, if it could run android maybe people not going to have problem pick that phone over xz1 compact

  • Dude, first of all you really need to come back to 2017, the snapdragon 835 has totally no thermal issues, add for it Sony is famous for using heat pipes which all smartphone manufacturers followed them with the same idea, not enough internal storage you can add a SD card with the storage size you want, have you compared the specifications sheet of both?? And don't forget the front facing stereo speakers, waterproof design... Dude are you kidding us?? (0_o)

  • Plastic(any kind) has low thermal conductivity, so it will end up acting as an insulator and trap heat in. Metal has high thermal conductivity, so it would act as a heat sink and move heat away from inside of the phone. Metal phones are the best for this reason. You have to understand, overheating kills phone and battery really fast, and thats why plastic is a really bad material for longevity. And also 32gb really really low! That will mean about 20 gb free out of the box at most. Thats not enough, for what you have flagship specs if you can barely have any apps using it? Now this could be fine, if the pricing was right, guess what? Its not. 570 euro directly from Sony (only major countries has the privilige to buy it directly) while XZ1 is 680 euro. In my country for example, there is no option to buy from Sony directly, has to import of buy from retailers or carriers. All the carriers refuse to carry XZ1 compact, while XZ1 get can be had for pre paid 750 euro unlocked or pre-paid carrier locked 550euro only. XZ1 compacts gets no deals, you are expected to pay 650 euro for it.... Think about it compact phone with plastic materials, and 32 gb internal only, 650 euro while iPhone SE can be had for 350 euro with 32gb, or even more crazy getting 128gb for 465 euro. What justifies that price for Sony XZ1 compact? Budget materials and budget storage, premium pricing just because the only android compact?

  • The properties of the plastic are more important than the fact it's made of plastic, if it keeps the sturdiness and ups the scratch resistance and grippiness of the x compact then there's not a huge issue.

  • Very good phone,in compact size but can pack powerful specs. People who complaints about anything should do it by your own, whether you can make a better compact phone than this one or not.I would say nope because you just spread hatred.Yes, I admitted it should be at least 64gb but I'm okay with that though. I hope sony offers more storage options to their customers such as 32gb,64,128gb and 256gb

  • Gorilla glass 5, build off of 1 solid block of metal.

  • You don't know the official website and want to misleading people with your nonsense. The XZ1 compact have Corning Gorilla Glass 5. SOURCE:

  • Cost cutting, plastic body, 32gb internal only, and also no gorilla glass.

  • Troll much ...Get over yourself....so you still use a z1c ,its clear that you dont need all the above...you need a comoact phone...and this is the best android compact. If you needed dual camera and raw and bla bla bla you already got another phone.

  • No Gorilla Glass 5? In news, there is that Xperia XZ1 Compact and XZ1 comes with Gorilla Glass 5, so why is there classic glass written?

  • Even i wonder why no radio

  • lol no, the only complaint is it's thick and ugly

  • iPhone SE? 128gb internal option, still very powerfull, much cheaper than compact ~350-400euro for 32gb, or ~500-550 euro for 128gb internal version

  • Go to YouTube, people are becoming crazy in this smartphone, and yes the only one complaint is the 32GB storage.

  • why they end with Radio?? that was one of the points that make me have the xperia z1 compact and now xperia x compact.

  • I'm so torn on whether to get this or not. I still have a Z1 Compact so this is obviously a nice upgrade but.. No 64 gb internal, no RAW support, no dual camera, not to mention camera quality probably won't be THAT great.. I kind of want to either wait for next year or just suck it up and upgrade to a 5+ inches phone. I just love the size of my Z1 Compact. It's upsetting there's literally not competition in the sub 5 inch android market. This phone is decent but it's not late-2017 decent.

  • Well it turned out better than expected, at very least Sony has some offical retailer around here, where the phone can be pre-ordered. However the price is very step, 750 euro for XZ1, or 650 euro for XZ1 compact

  • So this may come in dual sim variant? If so it would be perfect

  • Don't use Discord, sorry to say. >

  • Man, don't take the Lord's Title in vain, repent.

  • This phone is almost perfect. I have big hands but I hate big phones, around 65mm width is perfect to use a phone with one hand. I'm not quite in need of an upgrade yet though, so I'll be happy to wait until next year when Sony will likely put new ARM cores in their phones. Give me a slight camera upgrade too and I couldn't ask for more.

  • God damn, it's been ages. Add me on Discord if you like! ID: Lark Setz #0165

  • Co-founder and community manager of BOUT Evolution at Evolution Games? Yep, the one and only.

  • Dude. Holy shit. Are you the same JrHarbort that I once played Bout! with?? I'm considering getting this phone, too. What a coincidence.

  • There's only a few pixels difference (and 0.1 inch diagonal) between this and an iPhone 8. And it will almost certainly have rather better battery life and a standard connector. It's also €200 cheaper. Is the Apple software and better if rarely used video modes worth €200? Then the Sony seems about the right price to me.

  • There is not dual sim with this phone

  • Already a generation and a half old with seemingly no planned successor. I think he meant no Android competition, however.

  • iPhone SE

  • They had to fit a 2700mAh battery somehow. The only way to do that is to make the device thicker. If you want a thinner device, they would have to sacrifice the battery capacity significantly.

  • To be completely fair, this compact version has a higher screen-to-body ratio (meaning, relatively less bezels) than the standard version but I bet if Sony used the same style as in their XA- series, a 4.7" screen could fit in these same dimensions. Maybe on next year's successor? I hope they keep the 16:9 aspect ratio on XZ2 compact though. And I hope they ditch the standard version of their flagship and make the compact available alongside premium on ALL MARKETS. (XZ1 compact will not be officially released in my region.)

  • Agreed

  • It should only be thin and stylish. No need for this specs, the specs are already good enough

  • 720p=it's ok. 2700 mAh=ok for this size phone 32 gb=pretty good for this size The only problem is the phone is too thick and ugly

  • Sony reportedly equipped it with an internal heatpipe and dissipation plate, so there shouldn't be any overheating issues.

  • The price is right. This device has basically no competition. Nowadays you won't find other phone with high end specs in a body like XZ1 compact. I love that Sony is still making compact models because personally I hate big phones. XZ1 Compact is the perfect size for all around use. If you look 5 years back the phones like XZ1 Compact weren't even called compact. They were regular smartphones.

  • cant wait for this BEAST!!!!!

  • nice, I want to replace my z5 compact, but this device has no ANT+ for my HR bekt when I'm running so I have to go to Samsung 🤔

  • The problem isn't the specs, but the price they want for it with those specs: ~550-600 USD. Non-premium materials, 720p, 2700mAh battery, AND still only have 32gb. Addressing some of these would make a better case for a premium priced phone.

  • People that complain about 32 gb not being enough storage - have you ever heard of Micro sd card or you are planning to install 20 1gb+ apps? Also 720p for 4.6 inch phone completely fine, less energy consumption and difference from 1080p shouldn't be that big for this display. Yea, losing radio sucks, but for 4.6 inch phone you need to cut some features to gain higher specs.

  • 64 GB would be better. But 32 GB is fine given that it has expandable storage which is cheaper, unlike some phones like the iPhone and Pixel.

  • that is the reason it has "expandable storage".

  • This compact is really fit for my hand & 319ppi is enough also big help to sd835 Over

  • Exactly, the biggest issue is the 32gb internal storage, thats simply not enough

  • Any over heating issu?

  • XZ2 compact should be : 4.8" FHD oled display (in the same body of XZ1 compact) 3000 mah battery Snapdragon 845 64 gb + 4 gb ram

  • Save your judgement for when screen on time tests are done. And most of those budget 1080p phones are 5.5".

  • But it's a 4.6" phone. 1080p would be a waste of battery. iPhone still have a 750p display on a 4.7" display so any resolution higher than that for a small display just wastes battery.

  • I don't agree with both of you. The specs you mention are all not important

  • Also 720p screen in 2017 is letdown. Even the budget phones comes with 1080p screen nowadays

  • Excellent phone but with 3 major issues: 1. 32 GB instead of 64GB so unworthy of a 2017 flagship 2. No FM Radio support 3. No Wireless charding support like Samsung Galaxy flagships If these were adressed this would be the perfect phone.

  • But we cannot judge it is USB type c 3.1, since I had visited the Sony website, that only show it connection is USB type c, no include any version, but its charger is Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 3.0, I think it just only quick charge function, but its connection version between gadgets is normal. That all my opinion, thank you.

  • It'll most likely be available here in the Philippines through online retailers but it won't come with official warranty from Sony, so if the phone has a defect it'll be a huge headache to get fixed. Super disappointing.

  • I have the X Compact, and there are only 3 irksome things about it - 1) is the mid range processor (especially when handling photos, it is slow) 2) the screen which although it's ok, 1080p would be a welcome upgrade. 3) is the on screen navigation buttons. This XZ1 only seems to upgrade the processor, which for me is not enough reason to upgrade from the X Compact, unfortunately! Why couldn't they do more with it? If it had a better screen and a thinner bezel at the bottom, and louder speakers, then I'd give them my money!

  • They should sell directly off their website worldwide, instead of relying on retailers for lower volume markets.

  • Same story for the smaller EU countries too not officially available... Too bad yet another nail in Sony's coffin. Yes premium is everywhere, but Sony should get a clue not everyone want a phone with gimmick 4k screen, they should offer other choices too. Because here buying from "gsm" stores, asking to be scammed.

  • multiple sources list this phone as usb 3.1 type-C

  • Yeah. It's really disappointing that they won't make it officially available here in the Philippines. They could have gotten great market share here for premium Compact phones here. Instead our choices for sub-5" phones are only the non-plus sized iPhones and other crappy Android phones.

  • Yes, Sony should the xz1 compact in the Philippines.

  • 100% . how someone can use frameless screen vertically for games and as camera bezeles are good and needed , maybee shorten them on the top and bottom to include the newer ratio screen I think 18:20 instead the current 9:16 .

  • A3 is bigger with 2300mAh. Iphone 7 is bigger with 1900mAh

  • I wish this phone launch in Vietnam too

  • Yeah, it's a stupid move by Sony. No wonder they're losing to Chinese brands and Apple. Apple pretty much cornered the small phones market. If only they released the X Compact and XZ1 Compact here in the Philippines (and other Asian Countries), they probably would be more popular.

  • XZ1 Compact won't be officially available in the Philippines. So disappointed in Sony, not everyone here wants phones bigger than their hands. Might as well just buy an iPhone 7s.

  • this is bad news, but i think i will still buy this to upgrade my xz.

  • No. Had an Xperia z3 compact and that 720p screen is just not good enough nowadays even for the smaller display size the lack of sharpness is noticeable.

  • It is impossible, where are you going to fit the battery.

  • a bezel less (like the upcoming iphone) sony in compact form would be so awesome. dream phone. just the 4.6' screen and no bezels. wow.

  • i mailed sony they said this phone does not have a dual sim version

  • Polycarbonate body.

  • The XZ1 compact has an Aumunium body or polycarbonate ?

  • The answer would be endless, actually you must ask the opposite, why you shouldn't exchange your z1c with a xz1c?? There is no reason.

  • Thats because Sony is the nerd that doesnt like these parties. ;-)

  • This is a very beautiful phone, if it is curve and short of bezel it must be the same like samsung iPhone.., I was wrong Samsung iPhone does not have compact phone for it range, so XZ1 compact must a king for it range.

  • I think it has more than 30 reasons for compare with Z1 compact. XZ1 compact have too much improvement compared to Z1 compact!

  • Martin why don't you back to the future? I mean you can chose the one with RDS radio support from previous Xperias.

  • no radio - reject embarrassment

  • Hello, can anybody tell me at least three rational reasons why should I buy new XZ1 Compact and change it for my Z1c beauty? Thank you

  • Apparently, Sony won't be releasing this phone to many Asian countries. Earlier this year, Samsung didn't release the A3 (2017) in those same countries either. So Apple has the monopoly on the market for smartphones with 4.7" (or less) screen. My sympathy goes out to all my fellow men who just want a compact Android phone but will probably never get one.

  • can I put 2 nano SIM and micro SD card at the same time?

  • i hope sony will always keep the bezels, that's one of main reasons why i buy sony phones, looks so much better. Like i can't be only one to like that.

  • Most of us can forget the radio. I never used it on my z5c. I'm hoping Sony will listen/follow the small bezels trend. Sony is always late in joining the party :D

  • 1st off, Thank you #sony for giving us a small flagship phone. The volume rocker is well placed (thanks for listening). The top and bottom bezels should be trimmed down, use the z5 compact's speaker design and most of us don't mind a thicker phone for having a big battery. Maybe the next compact battery will be 3000mah? :) We want a smaller footprint on the next compact. I'm amazed this has 4GB of RAM but ROM is just 32GB w/c will leave us to about 15-20GB left of internal storage. PEACE \m/,

  • I'd rather have 12 mm phone as a whole life to drag a thin weak phone + power bank.

  • The best specs compact phone for the price The worst looking phone on the market

  • since I search the sony website, its screen is using the corning gorilla glass 5 instead of Scratch-resistant glass

  • My country dont have LG service center and LG suffer from bootloop for it previous generations, still have some worry. Sony listen to customer demands, the louder audio, the temperature is well control with triple graphite, and the Predictive Capture is awesome and usefull.

  • Sd821 vs Sd835. 10% better. They are skyrockets anyway. Even 810 kicks ass. And lg g6 is 450 euros in my country. This one for sure 600 euros.

  • The last mini flagship phone. Sony. Even tough I like big screens, they are hard to hold and use with one hand and being curved is even more harder to use .

  • Its official this phone will not be launched in Asia and south East shit with it such a waste.

  • Please released it soon I really Like it ..

  • This could be my next phone. My last Sony phone is the Xperia Mini Pro; still functional and is my backup (currently using a Blu Life Pure Mini) phone on a prepaid. Thank you Sony for not alienating some of us who prefer something below 5.0 and with 1gb+ :)

  • I bet if the side bezels were as minimal as in the XA- models, a 16:9 aspect ratio 4.7" diagonal would fit in these dimensions. I don't mind that Sony didn't jump on the dual cam bandwagon with this one but I just hope the image quality is excellent because I remember this website doing a blind shootout among 3 flagship phones with single primary camera and the XZ premium wasn't up to par with the 2 others.

  • Best compact Android phone of the year with every top notch spec on a 4.6" phone

  • Xperia UI is more efficiency SD835 is more efficency 720p display is more efficency. Qnovo charging tech is more efficency.

  • For all the companies still making good 4" phones, you da real mvp

  • So im waiting on the endurance test for this phone and the xz1, but are they anytime soon cause knowing how long their battery last is kind of important for them to actually be worth getting.

  • This phone will be big.

  • I have read reports about Intel's endevors to reduce consumption power making the chips smaller below 28nm, got no definite results. The research shows that when you get at very low size, close to the limits, the electrical power consumption actually increases because the electricity does not pass easily through conductors; like a thicker wire passes more electricity than a thin wire which can get hot. Because Intel is one the most avanced semiconductor industry and it got stumbled in performance increase with size decrease, we have to be aware about a physical limitation which we a getting close to and not expect much improvement from the 10nm technology.

  • Glad to hear that the front facing stereo speaker is more louder and the processor is SD835, look at LG G6 with SD821 just a midrange version lol!

  • 4.6" display with the latest sd835? You have my money now!

  • So here it is listed that the XZ1 compact will have a dual sim variant. The compact range has only ever been single sim. I couldn't find any reference to dual sim in the Sony product page..... so...

  • This has the latest 10nm chip versus the sd650's 28nm. Xz1c will be more efficient.

  • Unless you don't have access to the Play store, you can add a FM radio app folks. I have a built in radio on one of my handsets, but i seldom use it. That's my choice of course. I'm interested in seeing Sony minimize bezels next year. Do you guys think they will?

  • Sony Xperia X Compact is water resistent, I tested it, it was not certified in order to lower the production cost, certification is expensive. Even if a phone is certified, there are accidents and misuses which damage the phone; being certified the returns under warranty are higher and but the production cost higher too. So it is a fair deal to pay 2-3 hundred dollars less for the same build but not in warranty for water damage. X Compact has HDR for both cameras and the main one is 23M pixels. It is in the end the best deal.

  • No FM Radio Activated when the Snapdragon does have it on board? Very disappointing - will stick with Z5C for now.

  • all those complaining its shape and design or any other feature should know that even x compact users don't complain of any special issue I bet haters still dont understand this beast is the the real deal in daily usage price will fall down to 450 in 3 months max and price is at 600 just because of those 100$ headphones ip68 fastest android latest android smooth like a google pixel camera results look better than ever (from any previous xperia) if apple can charge 700$ for a 4.7 inch phone then every nerd should know that at 500$ this is obviously the most complete package for someone looking for compact phone

  • 19MP on XZ1c way more better than 23MP in Z5c. Educate yourself

  • Worst thing about Sony devices is that once you unlock bootloader DRM keys are gone forever.

  • No need to do the Bend test because it is sturdy enough, just wait the drop test from professional side, see can the display broke or not.

  • Z5c vs XZ1c XZ1c pros: -8MP Front Camera (sacrificing HDR) -720p 960fps Main Camera vs 120fps -Bluetooth 5.0 vs 4.1 -Quick Charge v3.0 type C vs micro USB 3 w/ Quick Charge 2.0 *still thick with thick bezels and the same 2700mAh irremovable battery *UGLY for a late 2017 phone *Why is the flash waaay over there!? (look at the pictures provided by GSMArena) Z5c pros: -23MP Main Camera -FM Radio with RDS -5MP Front Camera has HDR *looks better design-wise *waaay cheaper now p.s.: don't even bother looking at the X Compact - no IP certification of water resistance and is... ugh... just look. :)

  • This is worse than prior version X Compact, it does not have radio, it is heavier and way more expensive. Besides, eight high speed processors will drain the battery much faster for the same work done with six.

  • The Compact series is great but Z5C is the last compact that was released in Vietnam. I'm so sad :((((

  • wow it's 2017 and there's internet man.The phone is already thick and no need for some extra thickness

  • The z5c might not get Oreo

  • Welcome to 2010, watch out not to drop the brick on your foot. Huge bezels, low rez, ugly like bad dream...

  • The lack of FM radio has spoiled it for me.With fm or DAB it would be my ideal phone. No radio,no use.

  • I really wish that this gets released in India. It was very unfortunate that the Z5 Compact and the X Compact were never released.

  • Although their specifications website of XZ1 Compact says only "Single-SIM Slot . Nano size" , their main XZ1 Compact site still show Dual SIM Hybrid Slot , Nano size" . I don't know it's a mistake or unconfirmed features , etc. , but it still here (i don't if it will gone in the future) . Weird but hopefully simultaneously.... Proof :

  • for 4.6inch screen on screen buttons make it feel like cheap phones. No for on screen buttons at least on small screen like this.

  • This looks like a clone of my z5 compact. Not enough improvement to replace it.

  • What would be something else is a 4,6 -4,7" screen, with 3mm top bezel and 7mm bottom bezel, for a 114-115 mm total height.

  • 1080p is still poor resolution , 2 MP (1080p) is a bad joke so not that much difference... And 4K is too much for today embedded GPUs.

  • Or even better, more stamina with underclock & undervolt 540..and still show high performance.

  • Well, has adreno 540 @ 720p, so 120+++ fps @ 4X AA in custom expert manager :)

  • Are you kidding?12-13 mm no problem?Man please keep you opinions on yourself, we people don't want a thick brick phone. If you want a 1000000 mAh phone then go buy a powerbank.

  • Is dual sim available in india i can see on there global site there is a dual sim version.

  • It's good time too but previously flagships. Planning to buy Z5c, but not sure if after Oreo release will work smoothly on 2Gb of RAM, maybe it'd better to take Xc?

  • Well technically they can (i think), but only if they want the xz1 compact to be the next note 7....

  • What about iPhone 7 then?

  • you can add xz1 compact plastic body aswell the x compact .that is very very robust body compared to the fragiled z3 + z5 compacts tend to break by itself

  • and longer/higher 18:9 ratio could refresh the front look much more ,that is the trend now , sony lost opprtunity . I am now three years with the same screen size 4.6" with my three compacts z3 z5 x . but must admit the huge improvment in screen text reading improvments in contrast and sharpness between the Z3 compact to my current x compact , so sony is doing somthing there ,

  • how many more designs someone can have after 10 years of smartphones of all maufatoreres , maybe go back to the blackberry squre , or trilliant phone to use it as a ninja tool when needed.

  • you never ever know how they think ,so maybee they will have it back on the next xz2 compact , otherwise I will warmly sugest you to buy the x compact , good phone

  • removable battery leads you to another mistake loosing the ip68 waterproof

  • Sony compacts although are flagships sre not planned for higher/faster tasks like games and video watching the same as the standard 1080i 5.2" phones , so using the lower memory ram

  • I wish 5 000 mAh battery - 12 - 13 mm thickness isn't problem, capacity under 3 500 mAh is really problem!

  • Sony mistakes on previous Compact phones: * X Compact: 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 650 (X: that same) * Z5 Compact: 2GB RAM, Snapdragon 810 (Z5: 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 810) * Z3 Compact: 2GB RAM, Snapdragon 801 (Z3: 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 801) Really small flagships: * Z1 Compact: 2GB RAM, Snapdragon 800 (Z1: that same) (Released: 2013) * XZ1 Compact: 4GB RAM, Snapdragon 835 (XZ1: that same) (Released: 2017)

  • It's mistake - many more apps + higher bitrated video recording are very hungry for RAM.

  • Finally after so many (4 - 5?) years a real compact flagship phone i am looking forward to it. Sony mistakes - Missing Fetures: * Infra-port, * 3 ports (2 SIM + 1 MicroSDXC, NOT Hybrid !!!), * Magnetic and/or Uncontact charging, * 64 (or higher) GB ROM, * Metal/Glass Body, * FM Radio, * 1.8" (or lower) Camera, * Bigger & Removable Battery

  • z5c: 2 GB RAM ............ thanks, i don't want ...

  • e.g. Infra-port, 3 ports (2 SIM + 1 MicroSDXC), Magnetic and/or Uncontact charging, 64 GB ROM, Metal/Glass Body, FM Radio, 1.8" Camera, Bigger & Removable Battery, ...

  • Buy it on e-shop (e.g. Amazon, etc.) ;-)

  • On all sources is viewed as Single SIM only ... (i wish Dual SIM, but it's now not really) :-(

  • You make some good points. I agree, anyone looking at this device probably has that smaller form factor primarily in mind, so no, the OP5 is not the ideal alternative. That said, people will still look to maximise their value for money, so might (on seeing the price here) potentially consider alternatives they might not have otherwise. £449 would have been reasonable yes.

  • Well if Sony follow your logic then what's to stop then at this price eh?? Only one it it's category, so why stop at £499... let go to £699, why not.... it's not like they have anything else to choose now it's it. What are you willing to pay for the 'only' device in a category?

  • I think it'll be the cheapest ip rated sd 835 device at £499. Still £449 would have been a highly competitive price point. Even if a oneplus is better value, your probably not considering that as an alternative to a 4.6" device.

  • Yah, it makes sense. I see no other reason for Sony ditching FM radio.

  • Thet could have put 3000mAh in it and made it a beast...

  • They can ask more, because this is smaller! It is the best and only one in its gategory. Al those phones that cost the same are bigger, so worse than this in that aspect. So if you like to get smaller, you have to pay the price. I expect this one to be one with highest battery times for a long time!

  • LMAO 720p display with that price !! WTF ?

  • Design is near identical to the X compact, very lazy. its a little smaller. They cut some corners.. No FM radio, same old 2.0 Type-C 1.0. Hopefully the battery life + camera make it a decent device.

  • Hey Sony, can't u sell this device in India. I am really looking forward to this small magic.

  • 835 snapdragon supports retinal scan hope its available in the monile.

  • They might still have a best seller if they rethink their pricing, £499 for this is simply just too much. Typical Sony, their mobile division has often displayed this kind of arrogance with regards pricing, it's held them back. At £399 this becomes hard to argue with. At £499 though come review time you'll see a lot of sites and tech journalist recommending the like of the Oneplus 5, Nokia 8, even the G6 which can be had for similar numbers over this. Or they'll suggest saving a good £100 and looking at perhaps the Moto X4 and such.

  • Announce the sar and the price guys.

  • I've got a suspicion that google doesn't want radio on android phones to sell google play music subscriptions. If sony had to pay google a fee to enable radio support, you can understand why they, and everyone else would drop it.

  • Yeah I'm in the same boat, rumors say sony will be going 18:9 higher screen to body ratio. If they do that, keep the same height and chop another mm of the width I'll definitely buy it.

  • Price in India 38,000

  • I used Z1C to XC Because of my obsession with small things. I'll almost buy it, But why is not there a radio?

  • So basically an updated z1c/z3c/z5c with snapdragon 835 and better camera? I would have liked it if they basically kept the z5c more round edges and squeezed in a 5" 1080p screen in the small body.

  • Is it Dual Sim? Sony Official website shows , it is single sim

  • heard somewhere it wont be realeased for middle east countries, am really upset now. wanted to buy it

  • I have X compact and now I can rest for another year without worrying about xz1 compact! Design is almost the same and although this new guys is a beast in cpu, it wont show a big change in overall performance because what are users gonna do with a small compact phone other than texting/web browsing/taking good pictures?! lets see what sony does next year when it drops support for x compact

  • If it has no fm radio no sale I will stick with z5 c

  • I don't mind the bazel of xz1 compact. This is superb phone with superb spec. This phone has everything I wish for, best processor, sd 835 ! 4 GB of RAM, compact size 4.6 inch, good display, great battery and greater battery management. Water proof. Enduring material for rear and gorilla Glass 5 for front panel. What else one can wish for?

  • Will definitely get one if have dual-SIM hybrid variant. Wish it to have 64GB for dual-SIM hybrid variant just like the old Xperia XZ.

  • Im using z5c too..good phone

  • Shame to Sony Again came with uglyness ,,onscreen navigation keys ,small batteries, shame Sony shame.

  • Wow... nearly 4 years later and Sony still wont offer 4,6 inch, high-end chip phone with 1080p screen. No wonder they are going down... Slowly but surely.

  • there will be expensive phone despite with only 4.6 inch and a 2600 mAh battery

  • 720p with snapdragon 835. Wow this phone will fly

  • Better then the the other 2 phones that have been released . This year line up is kind of disappointing. Not much difference from last year in design . In fact last year design was better . Volume rockers have gone up finally but stupid camera button still remains in the bottom half 🙃

  • Xz1c is way more powerful, the 19mp camera is better than the 23mp one, it has a much more efficient SoC and shouldn't have overheating issues. Higher screen to body ratio should land in xz2 series according to rumors, and design is subjective.

  • Sony could've had a bestseller if this phone came with 64gb internal memory with half of the bezel size. Nokia and Blackberry didn't pay attention to what most of their customers wanted and instead kept offering what they thought was best. Hope Sony learns their lesson before it's too late.

  • Yay gonna update my Z5 Compact to this! :) The Only minus from me is that they did not give it a bigger battery.

  • yes, it looks good. it's part of the sony charm. i like it.😋

  • My Next phone

  • Finally after so many years a real compact phone i am looking forward to it

  • With front facing speakers it is impossible.

  • dont care about bezels but at keast it should have 64gb internal, 4gb ram is useless when it has 28gb internal

  • All Sony phones look identical these days with huge bezel top and bottom. use your imagination Sony at least make it look abit different. This compact could have had a 5" screen but kept virtually the same size if it wasnt for the door stop bezels.

  • Screen doesn't work underwater to change settings..! :( That's what it is for..

  • Well some have tested the X Compact in the wather and it seems it actually is ip something. But with all the complaints Sony has gotten when people have constantly exposed their phones to wather and broke them, seems to have led to it. Meaning they just wont mention it can deal with wather, so people don't intentionaly take it to the extreme.

  • Z5c vs XZ1c XZ1c pros: -8MP Front Camera (sacrificing HDR) -720p 960fps Main Camera vs 120fps -Bluetooth 5.0 vs 4.1 -Quick Charge v3.0 type C vs micro USB 3 w/ Quick Charge 2.0 *still thick with thick bezels and the same 2700mAh irremovable battery *UGLY for a late 2017 phone *Why is the flash waaay over there!? (look at the pictures provided by GSMArena) Z5c pros: -23MP Main Camera -FM Radio with RDS -5MP Front Camera has HDR *looks better design-wise *waaay cheaper now p.s.: don't even bother looking at the X Compact - no IP certification of water resistance and is... ugh... just look. :)

  • Performance will be superb with 835 processor with 720p. It will be flashy.

  • Maybe next year , sony/nokia/htc/ will join bezel less bandwagon... nice phone but still....

  • come on Sony there's nothing wrong of making Less brezzel phone step up sony!

  • It looks quite good actually, finally something to upgrade from my z3c. Did extensive research and found no phone that is 4.6" while still packs a punch. Funny that a 4.6" today is called mini/compact and "normal" sized phones are big and awkard to hold in your hands or even carrying.

  • Sony is going strong with these line ups. I love this particular model.

  • Okay. but then again how would you fit a 2700 mAh battery in a 7.something or 8mm thickness? you're sacrificing battery life like that.

  • So it's just the XZ1 in a smaller body? Why didn't Sony do this for the X Compact, which strangely lacked an IP68 rating officially? Why does it still not ship with a camera that has OIS? Why does it use the inferior camera from the XZs? Why is Sony willingly lagging behind its competitors?

  • Yep same design as the x compact.. was hoping die something more modern... Z3c was stunning z5c the same look.. then the x compact was bigger with low specs... Now we have good specs bu, Lu t same ugly design of the x.. Sony give is something to be proud off...

  • most people need smart phones with bigger battery , I am using z5c , I did not see anything wrong with it, I prefer it to last more longer and more efficient , the only con I have is the audio, is not comparable with my htc m8 and htc m9 in sound but the battery is great and better than my htc. it still have more features comparing to htc

  • Guys lets just stop fighting, this phone needs to be thinner, it's too thick. Sony should make it maybe a little small battery, maybe a little less powerful processor but it needs to be thinner, right now it's way too thick

  • Nice look O.o. But I still can't accepted Sony new design as thicker as my power bank, really unbelievable and how come Sony challenging Sony's fans of visual impact.

  • Well said. mate. exactly my words! //applauds

  • Hm. but then again the Sony [insert sequence of letters here] Compact will lose it's COMPACT title. the whole point of it is to remain SMALL SCREEN.

  • So you bash the phone evwn when it isn't even out yet? By the way USE COMMON SENSE. It will be slightly thicker because IT HAS FLAGSHIP specs in a small size and reasonable size battery in it. If you want smaller display all the components still need to be fitted inside the phone. So the only way that can be done is by adding space in thickness. You can actuallt use these with 1 hand unlike the over 5" slabs that look helluva stupid while being talked into.

  • you havin a stroke mate? a nice, smaller, thicker phone feels far better in the hand than some ridiculously huge phone which, mind you, has the same battery capacity driving a bigger, higher resolution screen (which you can't see anyway) because MUH THIN PHONE meme. function over form, except this phone will have both get real

  • it is thicker than my wallet loooooooooooooooooool even it is thicker than my laptop loooooooooooooooool hey Sony we are in 2017. this phone design is for year 2005

  • Found the dork that comprises the 99.99% of the target market, the hipster style over function crowd.

  • it doesnt say 3000 mah

  • so they should put a smaller battery in it like iphone se,it is not that important, looks are more important than a 3 hours more battery life. It looks too thick man therefore it looks very ugly

  • Yep, people say the bezels are huge and make it unwieldy, despite the fact this is most likely the shortest android phone to be released in 2017. I think 18:9 ratio might happen when they go small bezel, same size phone but a little over 5" screen diagonal. Wouldn't force a smaller battery that way.

  • no need for 3000 mAh, it makes the phone too thick therefore ugly

  • I am waiting.

  • 80% screen-to-body ratio 4.7 inches screen 3000mAh 720p dust and water and it is good..

  • Would you prefer a bezelless 4.6inches? like an extra tiny Galaxy s8? this is the thing that makes sony unique. (And no. I'm NOT a sony fan. ^^;) Considering they went G6 style or the S8. how would they fit 2.8k mAh in such a tiny body? be reasonable.

  • In my opinion, id rather have 720p at that size and save the much more juice in the battery department. More or less ill buy this since mine is 3years old already

  • Better than pantyliner styles like those of Samsung phones.

  • This is the screen size and camera specifications that i was waiting for. The only thing i need to know is its camera quality, ois, video 240 frame rate, otg.

  • Dudes, really??? Same size like x compact, same bezels, same look like a BRICK???

  • The resolution of the XZ1C is said to be HD (720p) and not full HD (1080p). Better HD for better battery life.

  • Very true! It has been long time when we last time did see really good compact Android phone! Hopefully the specks Are right about it... We need good small size flagship phone(s)!

  • Is the "... or dual-SIM" a real specification rumor or a typo from the XZ1?

  • Sony's stereo speakers are the biggest hoax, I had a nightmare with z3 compact.

  • Nah. Impractical features like edge screens/small bezels are for kids.

  • No additional data costs for FM radio.

  • IAM dream is to see a phone with Snapdragon flagship processor 835 with -4.7"inch super amoled display 720p screen resolution LPDDR4X 8GB RAM Stock android O (8.0) 3200mah battery

  • Why FM radio? You've got a shitload on apps. I'm using everyday radio to wake up. It's fine to me.

  • FM Radio is a deal breaker for me. I don't want to waste my data allowance on streaming music, which also drains the battery much quicker. :-(

  • What? Sony need to keep reputation, xiaomi with big ram still perform slow, sony fans has good taste in performance. Xiaomi for kids only or begineer to smartphone

  • i change my opinion, no need for bigger battery too, battery is just fine

  • i don't agree with fm radio, there is internet man no need for radio in 2017

  • only for kids.please remmber that grow people also buys sony 4.6inch phones, itjust need to have small screen , gps, good battery. thats all. all those processors, fm is only for kids and batery draining

  • It must have FM definitely. If no FM then there is no reason for someone to buy it. It should also have dust and water protection like compact Z5. Please kill the USB type C connector and return to micro USB.

  • needs improvement: -it looks very ugly(very thick) -poor screen to body ratio(it must be greater than 75%) -camera, more megapixels doesn't always mean it's good, needs better auto mode -we don't need 55 led flashes, quality speakers, poor or average will be just fine -needs bigger battery

  • Sony Xperia Compacts is what I have been waiting for!!!! Come at me fast!!!

  • Finally true pocket-size beast from Sony, again. I'm still using Z3 Compact and was patiently waiting for reincarnation, since the last Sony's compact (X) was disappointing mid-ranger. We still do not know final dimensions, but I hope it would be at least small as Z3c. My ideal phone will be 4.6" display with minimal or no bezels, but being in with trends is not Sony's thing. Since I appreciate Sony for being only manufacturer with performing mini smartphones I will buy this one and wait for Sony to catch no-bezels train, maybe in 2020.

  • I'd go for that - 4GB of RAM, 64GB internal if there is SD support, 128GB if not, 1080p screen, snapdragon 625,626,630 or 660 and use the same sensor they sell to google for the pixel and Blackberry for the Keyone because their cameras in the X/Z line are always weird, massive megapixel count, noise , weird blobby impressionistic artifacts because of their software post processing of images. Id rather a clean 10 or 12MP image to a sketchy 23MP thing with huge file size any day of the week.

  • Great minds think alike....ftw...Batt and Camera is the only most important thing...plus chipset also...

  • That's what the XA series should be, they just need to put bigger batteries in them.

  • Sony need to create something like XiaoMi brand.... cheap with high RAM, high storage, high battery... no need too high processor.... no need too good display.... some people just need long battery with good camera........ storage wise just use backup! please reduce price to be competitive, thanksssssss 4.6inch is what sony is good at, which xiaomi doesnt have !

  • we need good camera, good battery phone, ... no need very good display....waste of $........u can reduce cost to attract more peopl to SONY

  • will be official on August 31, with its bigger brother, XZ1.

  • the XZ1 Compact has been benchmarked at Geekbench and yes it has Snapdragon 835 like XZ1 and XZ Premium, and also 4GB of RAM like them.

  • Who gets so emotional about display technologies? I can only assume that, at some point, an OLED screen killed your dog.

  • I'm really excited to see this rumoured release. Only recently read claims that Sony were ditching high end compact devices so, as a loyal xperia compact purchaser, was left feeling disowned by Sony. However, I don't see the point of including a full hd screen. With a screen this size (4.6) the difference in appearance between 720 and 1080 would be negligible. Also, the higher demanding screen resolution would have a negative effect on the usually excellent battery performance which is one of the compact ranges main selling points (for me at least).

  • finally a phone that isn't the size of a 1985 garage door opener. been waiting on this a while.

  • I'd prefer 4.8. Somewhere 132 mm tall with smaller top and bottom bezels. 126 mm tall is a bit small.

  • Perfect size. Father of xperia Ray. I will do buy.

  • Oled display sucks anyway, with screen burn ins and the pixels die overtime, who's the hell would pay $600 on a Samsung phone to see their screen deteriorate overtime. When using your phone more often and it dies faster, brighter display and white screen are the biggest factors that's behind the burn in issues and I don't think IPS display have any problems, they're just better and reliable than Oled displays.

  • If the leaks are to be believed, this will come with an identical spec sheet to the xz1. Don't know if that stretches to the front camera, but seems to be everything else.

  • You forgot to include 'less ram' but yeah, that's usually the setup from every manufacturer- so much downgrade for so little price difference. It's an injustice to compact phone enthusiasts.

  • My 3 year old S4 mini has no issues with its OLED screen. Sony have just released a Bravia TV with OLED... There are tradeoffs in OLED vs LCD, but your opinion "Lol Sony doesn't use OLED display and never will because of how unreliable it is compared to IPS which last forever." may need reviewed.

  • I just worry that this will come with thicker bezels (thus lower screen to body ratio), lower battery capacity and screen resolution (expected and somewhat understandable), and also a less competent SoC compared to the non-compact version but will cost only $50 less. Then the manufacturer will complain that no one is buying compact phones anymore. But I would very much like to be proven wrong on the day this phone is made official.

  • 2800 Mah is too small for a compact device, let's not forget the phone will be bulky and should have more battery life at least 3200 Mah would be adequate.

  • Ugh... just got my XA1 a few months ago... will be hard to not splurge on this one, but will probably do so if the camera comes with OIS.

  • Everything is OK .. But I want Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact as ........ IP68 certified - dust/water proof over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes 3D Touch dual display , Always-on display. Camera - Primary & Secondary both dual Camera 20 MP, f/1.6, 60mm , OIS with 5 axis, phase detection and laser auto focus. 4K steady shoot, slow motion with front flash. functional Fingerprint, with stereo speakers, FM radio with recording.NFC. USB - 3.1, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector, magnetic connector, USB On-The-Go. IR Blaster,Iris scanner, heart rate,TV, Projector with all sensor & gesture supported. Sony Pay (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX certified). removable Li-Ion 5000 mAh battery.

  • if dual sim is confirmed for this phone, I am in.

  • 4,6" is perfect. I'm having the Z5 Compact and loving the size.

  • Would be better with 4.7"/4.8" screen.

  • The 2 pictures with centered camera and FPS on rear panel are not XZ1 Compact but some new mid-ranger with SD660.

  • the leaked images of the assumed xz1 compact is a disaster.. the rear camera is now at the centre, with a rear mounted fingerprint sensor below it. looks just like any other android phones now. sony, please tell me its a joke.

  • That sounds like a defective panel, burn in is not a thing that should happen with LCDs less than ten years old.

  • I have Z5 C and I can't keep it because of overheating. Good phone but toooooooo hot

  • My LG G4 with an IPS screen has burn-ins.. and LG is supposed to be the finest IPS LCD manufacturer in the world! Yet my ancient S3 running lineage OS with it's amoled screen has no burn-ins...how'd that happen?

  • No FM Radio? No thanks. Another epic fail by Sony after the monster bezels on the X Compact, a mid-range phone with mid-range specs that Sony tried to sell for premium money.

  • They X5 's had 4K recording. So yes it is capable of 4K

  • Lol Sony doesn't use OLED display and never will because of how unreliable it is compared to IPS which last forever. Like Samsung and Oneplus, they have screen burn ins that's why Sony would charge you higher price for their flagship phones built with IPS which lasts longer than OLED displays.

  • Will this shoot 4k video

  • Yes, I agree with you. 5 inch will be great

  • 720 please don't use that much power it self and from the cpu compared to others with qhd display This will be a iPhone destroyer

  • Maybe if the sd810 wasn't so ineffecient and hot. This thing should have great efficiency on 10nm vs 28nm.

  • Non ANT+ (reading HR if you are running....), no FM RDS Radio, still Z5 compact is the best Sony phone.

  • This phone is almost perfect. There is only the magnetic charge (found on the Z3C) that is missing. All other features are perfect for me. And hoping that the weight will be acceptable.

  • a snapdragon 835 paired a 720p display. it'll be the fastest phone on the market for sure.

  • Sony typically charges high rates for their handset equipment. Rumor has it that Sony executives want it's mobile division to focus on high end units. To entice consumers, Sony could start including high end earphones (they already give away hi res Bluetooth headsets for customers who preorder in some territories) that rival competitors. Should Sony release a 2017 compact model, it'll predictably be costly.

  • It will also break the average Joe's bank.

  • Wait impatiently for this one!!!)

  • We need more accurate news please ! This smartphone will break the avarage Joe of oversized phones and will revolutionise the world of compact smartphones!!!

  • it will be change xz1 compact

  • thanks, i've found a place that can replace the battery for me for cheap. maybe i'll upgrade to this one in a years time when that new battery isn't so new anymore :)

  • When, when, when?????

  • please add the radio, if it's possible

  • With snapdragon 835 and this dimensions I'll definitely buy it. Please make this happen. I'm currently a Z1 compact user.

  • I hope this phone arrive quickly and with same specs. Dear Sony, Please provide dual sim facility.

  • New rumors are saying sony is going to roll out bezeless phones, hopefully the next compact is one of them!

  • Pls SONY ... MAKE THIS HAPPEN! Specs are great , no need to add nothing more just make it a normal price.

  • This could be the best Sony smartphone until now... I hope that Sony produce this phone as soon as possible.

  • hey I've had this issue with my z1 too. the battery's dead. get one from ebay or somewhere reliable. phone will be as good as new once u popped in the new battery. go look for youtube videos on how to diy battery change if u're confident with your hands.

  • You need to calibrate your battery. It's a normal behavior of any electronic device after some time of use.

  • Happened to me too, you need to replace the battery

  • Maybe it's because of battery suddenly can't change it easily and it's not cheap enough. but also can be caused by Rom that got recent updates include pre-installed apps, or by some apps such as Facebook and online games to Ads and crazy using of Internet

  • my z1 compact's battery has gone kaput, it can't be on for more than a day tops. it suddenly drops and then shuts off, sometimes even goes from like 45% to 0% in seconds. i really really hope this phone is coming because i'll buy it the second it hits the streets, i love my z1 compact and i'm so sad it's slowly dying. please make an awesome new compact, sony. i'm depending on you.

  • Omg I really hope this is coming with these specs! So I can upgrade my Z5 Compact to this beast! :O

  • It will definitely outscore most of its competitors with that screen

  • The only screen graphics performance at 720p with snapdragon 835 will be mental

  • If this phone really comes out it is going to be the "Best Compact Phone of 2017" With that SNAPDRAGON 835

  • They are still not sure if this phone is real because it is just a rumor. Well u gotta wait till September or later to find out if it is really coming out

  • Pure size, i want a phone with all the whistles and bells etc, but compact. I've got a 7" tablet. Please think about the practicality. I have come across any shirts or trousers that'll fit a premium size phone

  • if they could build this with an IR blaster it would be my IDEAL phone: powerful, compact, expandable storage. I want a premium flagship phone performance, but I want it to be comfortable in a pocket, not to "only just fit"... and I don't wan tto burn battery on some stupid screen res that I'll never use - I have a 7" tablet for watching media and 1080P is PLENTY for that... 720P is plenty for a 4.6" screen....

  • when it arrive at Philippines. please make it earlier. im interested in this kind of phone. i think it less expensive compare to xzp.

  • XZ Premium is huge, hefty and same specs. I would rather take this more compact phone.

  • because not everyone wants a smartphone larger than their palm... Compact phones with top HW are market gap and only iPhone SE and previous Xperia Z5 compact are representing this category. the X compact is no more top as it's not water/dust proof etc

  • With any luck, this unit will materialize with HTC U11, ZTE Axon 7, or Vertu Constellation caliber stereo speakers. Keep your fingers crossed ladies and gentlemen.

  • why? just buy the XZ Premium...

  • Isnt the whole point of compact models to be under 5 inch? So a 5 inch compact and a 5.2 full sized? That doesnt make any sense to me.

  • I'd buy this phone. But FM radio is still a must for me.

  • exactly

  • I would Definitely buy if the Screen Size 5' inch......I don't mind 4 GB RAM.....

  • If no fm radio then no compact sony. Same reason i dislike oneplus and iphone. I also prefer microusb than type C

  • I have the Z1 Compact and I have --never-- used the radio. ;)

  • I love the radio too!

  • would be very glad if sony mobile only divide their product to 3 categories (low, mid, and high), with each category have big version and compact version.

  • When is Sony bringing out the XPERIA XZ Compact? If they can only consider about making this phone, why not at least make an IP68-certified version of the smallish XA1?

  • I have waiting a long time for a high-end android smartphone with a 4.0" or at least with no 5.0" screen display, with a powerful soc and great specs. Sony never disappointing their fans.

  • I would buy this if it was real

  • I hope that :) I hope RAM capacity is 6 GB not 4 GB. As well as the battery wish to be 3000 mAh. Why was the radio canceled?

  • Looks like more sites are reporting on this rumored xz1 compact (and xz1 )

  • Never heard of the site referenced with anonymous tipster, so I am chalking it up to fanboi fantasy for now. 720p and SD835? I'll believe it when I see it. Even Adreno 530 is way overkill for 720p. I am not expecting anything more than a 660 if it still has with a 720p screen. Given that XA1 has negligibly wider body with a 5" screen, XZ Compact better be really tiny (

  • Source?

  • It seems this phone is real. It may be announced at IFA. Name would be XZ1 Compact. XZ1 and XZ1 Compact in September 2017. Both Qualcomm 835, 4gb ram , Imx400 Motion Eye. XZ1 Premium at MWC 2018. Stronger CPU, 4K HDR Oled

  • It seems that these phone fits on my life style, a small with an octacore cpu and a 4GB RAM wow... Hope it well not heat faster.

  • A couple of my colleagues now have the S8 and honestly the height of that thing bothers me as much as the wide phones do. XZ Compact would be the phone the Z5c shoulda been, and it just kills me that there's no concrete indicator that it will even ever exist. If I end up buying something else (potentially G6) and then they end up releasing this at IFA I am ---not--- gonna be happy... :/

  • S8 is as wide as a 5.2" 16:9 including the curved edges, so flat 4.8" won't be much smaller. 4.5" 60mm sounds good, but wouldn't count on anything that size being remotely high end (damn market trends).

  • Any version of this phone that eventually materialises will not be more than 4.6", that is almost certain. There are already the 5" X & X Perf for that market; 4.8" would compete directly against those so they'll never do it. I'd --love-- to see a 4.5" and reduce the phone width even more - like about 60mm max. With the S8 now giving a 5.8 in only 69mm, there has to be some advantage in dropping to the smaller screen. If it stays at 65mm with a 4.8", who's gonna want that when only a tiny bit wider you can get a full extra Inch of real estate...

  • Good Specification, Small Display and Dual Sim too....

  • hope the bloody launch this st 4.5 or 4.3

  • 4.85" sounds right to me, side bezels from xa1, top and bottom equal x compact top bezel in x compact body. That would give a 77.4% ratio with space for stereo speakers. A display tech without a backlight would reduce display thickness as well.

  • as I've mentioned in my post before I would like to offer another solution as regard body & display dimensions: To my opinion, the Max. size for one hand cellphone and comfortable in the pocket (without feeling a "fourth leg") , is - 129X66X8.9 mm. As a result the Max. Flat Display!!!, with all the 8 points mentioned in my earlier post, would be 4.95 inches, which is not far from the Z5 Compact. This would give more room for a Bigger Battery [Non-removable Li-Po 3100 mAh]

  • The Sony Xperia XZ Compact would be the best cellphone ever if: 1. the same size as Z3 Compact - 127X65X8.9 - mm. BODY - IP68 certified - dust/water proof over 1.5 meter and 30 minutes 2. Display size of 4.8 inches minimum!. 3. Resolution - 1080X1920 pixels pref. OLED 4. CPU - Snapdragon 835 5. Internal Memory - 64 GB, 4 GB RAM. and Card Slot - microSD, up to 256 GB (dedicated slot) 6. Camera - f/1.8 or better f/1.7 with OIS 7. Loudspeaker (stereo speakers) - 32-bit. SOUND - (Voice - 76dB / Noise 73dB / Ring 83dB) 8. USB - 3.1 0r 3, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector 9. Battery - Non-removable Li-Po 2900 mAh battery 10. Document Editor & Photo/video editor This will be the ultimate compact cellphone ever!!!

  • i dont think they use snap 835 on this device, maybe 820 and 720p lcd for me is enough as it will extend battery life

  • I can say that we still have chance to see this phone really in production someday before Oct 1st. After this date forget about it!

  • It's more than a little frustrating that this page has been up for so long with the status set only as a rumor when I can't find anything online to suggest that this phone is even in the works.

  • After asking 7284 times to the Sony stores, made Sony produce a compact phone with 2 sim cards.

  • hope that would be thinner and be built with a better manf. quality

  • Add ufs storage and a more powerful amp.

  • Best android phone, Sony Xperia XZ compact - Body ratio > 75% - Resolution: 1080 x 1920 pixels min - USB: Type C 3.1 - Bluetooth: 5.0

  • Small size with dual SIM and extra sd card slot. This is a config I'm waiting for.

  • Seriosly 2800mah battery but 720p screen? SD 835 is overkill for 720p

  • Please realease the phone ............................. is the model am wating from 3 year..

  • I like the Xperia devices and using the z3 compact. I expect the specs said to have at least 75 % of screen to body ratio with 4.8 or 5 inches screen. If the above said specifications, display size and configuration will be the xz compact phone, will be the best android phone ever.

  • I like the Xperia devices and using the z3 compact. I expect the specs said to be true. And screen to body ratio to have at least 75%, And the screen size to be 4.8 or 5 inches with thickness to have below 8 mm. If these things available in xz compact will be the best android phone.

  • Stop spreading lies!

  • and theres rumors and sources out that Sony will be discontinuing the compact series...

  • I just hope that Sony releases this phone. I love Xperia devices and from the specs this looks like the one and only good and compact Android flagship.

  • Sad that this is practically the only high end compact phone in 2017 that isn't a iPhone

  • Definitely saving up for this one. Or I could get an X Compact now. I went with iPhone 7 because I was so tired of all the big Android phones. This is probably my only choice for a small powerful Android device.

  • Because of the long wait i bought the ZenFone Zoom (ZX551ML) instead...for it has a very low price in our country with a beast specs except for the camera...buy when this phone arrive i will sell the phone but for now i will keep the zoom...

  • It will probably announce on September or October bro like always its predictable...what i cant predict is the specs...i hope the specs of this phone right now will be all the way until they announce this phone...

  • do you know something about the release date?

  • waiting for this to happen asap

  • U are right bro i didn't notice it the design of this is the xz premium so probably the specs of this phone is going to be like xz premium this is interesting...:-D

  • This is new series like zx premium

  • X compact wasn't either. Didn't get nougat till December.

  • Xperia z5 compact is not running nougat on this video...

  • This phone will be announce on September i think and release on September or October...hope they will not change the specs...

  • Oh, how much I wish this phone would be real. Not that it would matter much for me, given that hell would freeze over before it supported CDMA. T_T

  • That's why I bought x compact over z5c.

  • Among the compact series, two phones suceeded: z3c & z5c. I hope Xzc will be real & sucess

  • I hope it gets released in India. It's very unfortunate that Z5 Compact and X Compact wasn't released in India.

  • Hope it'll have water\dusp-proof again :-)

  • Lol bro xz1 compact it will be release probably nxt year bro the xz line is just beginning bro even the xz compact is not yet out...so xz1 maybe yes but not now...:-D Don't be so excited bro you might just disappoint your self...:-D

  • Or XZ1 Compact

  • Me too but im 100% sure that the name and unit xz compact will come out what i don't know is the design and the specs of the phone and when it will be launched i think by Dec. This phone is available in stores and expect it to be expensive...and i am hoping instead of making xz compact they will make the XZs compact...:-D

  • I hope its a real picture of Xz compact because I will buy it.

  • Ohh ya...you were right..i wonder whre gsm arena get this pic

  • You didn't notice the volume button bro? Its not xzs or xz or x compact...

  • Look at the flash of the camera position- in XZs its vertical, but here its horizontal like in X compact.A yellow X compact?Or yellow Xz compact after few months?

  • I just saw xperia xzs come in yellow colour on sony official page

  • Actually it handy wgen holding your phone in one hand and want to type in quickly

  • Ah yes then i use this but its useless sometimes because its spells differently.

  • It's where you don't tap one key at a time to type a letter. You glide your finger over the keyboard, changing direction at each letter to spell a word. The keyboard calculates what you word you meant and there you have it... :)

  • Would be nice if sony were to use the 820 chipset but a slightly bigger battery. Smaller display, ok performance and good battery life is what i want from a phone, oh and a good camera ofc.

  • And ridiculously high gaming performance.

  • Dunno what to tell. BTW have no idea what swipe is what you talking about.

  • Adreno 540 on 720p display This will cause good battery life

  • I checked on the record thing. It has been broken, but the record-holder app does use some swiping features and the fact that many reports on the record made a point of specifically noting that it was done by typing, rather than swiping, suggests that there's common acceptance that swiping is inherently faster. And it makes a pocket-friendly phone perfectly usable by big hands!

  • By failed, I mean, failed in terms of marketing themselves, as not many have caught on to how simple it makes things. Swype still holds the world text-speed record too, I believe.

  • That's because you're trying to type in old-fashioned ways that require you to get multiple fingers on the screen at the same time. I am 6'4", size 13 shoes, I don't have small hands and yet I can't stand any phone bigger than 5". In fact I even didn't like the 4.6" of the Z3, so I still have my 4.3" Z1C. Typing is easy because of SWYPE, though SwiftKey and any decent keyboard has swipe-input these days. Honestly if the only reason people are going for bigger phones is to get the fingers onto the keyboard then Swype has failed as a product as it makes the big screen irrelevant.

  • Well a button phone fits because you can feel difference when touching buttons. But in touchpad you have a problem. Biiiiiiig probleeeeeeeem. Every average man have a hand of size 5,5 inch phone some even 6. So typing on something so small is totally difficult. Almost impossible to send a message without any mistakes.

  • Well thats your opinion and i agree with you. A small phone is good for people with small hands. But most mens have hands big enough for 6 inch or more and so typing on 5 inch and less should be big problem.

  • What is too small? I.e. what are the issues you have when using one smaller than "5.5"? And a follow-up question.. how did you ever survive with phones before 2015? :)

  • Nope my friend just a phone that fits to my big hand anything under 5.5 is too small and tablet is too large into my pockets. So

  • No idea what you talking about but nevermind.

  • if this xz compact will be exactly like those specs i buy it instantly. we need more phones like this sony!!!

  • For the x compact it works out nicely balanced. CPU performance it'll match sd810. Responsiveness and day to day speed it will beat sd810. And the weaker gpu is much less of an issue at 720p.

  • Scratching easily doesn't mean breaking easily. The mi mix is very hard to scratch with its ceramic build, but cracks easily. Higher hardness means less scratches and scuffs, but more brittle. I'm sure sony can find a material that's sturdy and harder to scratch though.

  • Well i can't blame u bro if u like 4k...

  • Indeed. It's not a bad phone. It's just a painfully average one. Awesome design, but it is a finger print and scratch magnet with that glossy back. I'm okay with plastic, but it has to be a high-end plastic build with at least some metal.

  • And I forgot battery life ;) I think chipset manufacturers make a mistake crippling the GPU while only slightly dipping the CPU. Honestly with standard usage any recent CPU is more than enough. It's when you play games or do something productive/creative that the lack of good GPU really shows. I would happily take a slower 625 etc with an Adreno 530. Though I guess the battery drain goes into the other thinking a bit..

  • Exactly, I could have lived with the lower-specced X Compact if it had brought the style (gloss black, some metal, etc) but manufacturers need to learn that small is -not- synonymous with "youthful/playful"..

  • A major problem shows when you can scratch the plastic back very easy. The other Compacts had a more high end plastic touch. For example, the Z5 Compact has the same frosted glass materials as the Z5.

  • I actually think the X Compact is better than the X. Overall, the X Compact is solid phone with a good camera, decent chip and design. The only major problem for me, the phone removed 4K video and became a midranger rather than a flagship like the other Compacts.

  • X compact has no ip certification, but seems to be unofficially waterproof. Durability wise it's definitely better than z3 series and I think z5 as well. Plastic is hard to break, whereas glass backs are not.

  • same here, Z1c has the best body, he only new thing I like is the power button and I hope they make this one on true black color not that blue universe stuff or whatever lol

  • Specially in my country sorry...

  • Don't say that bro some people like x compact like me but i preferred this one specially when this phone is true...:-D Waterproofing is just a bonus for me specifically in my country its hot... phone with waterproof features are prone of getting heat because the phone is super sealed inside almost no ventilation... Even tiny itsy bitsy small heat inside will just multiply so the phone gets warm but if you are in cold country its not a big problem...and yes 13mp front is cool thing although i only use it in just in case situations...

  • Yeah,I'm okay with the 820 chip because it is a smaller version of the XZ after all. The X compact just compromised in a lot of areas with the durability, no 13mp selfie camera and no water or dust resistance like the full sized X. Even so, nobody wanted a compact from the X anyway.

  • Bro x compact have a low chance of laging it have 3 gb ram phone only lags when u only have 400mb or 300mb ram and many background apps running so always close the recent apps after using the phone...my zr dont lag even it have only 2gb ram just always clear the recent apps if u dont need it or using it...

  • I don't experience lag on my x compact unless I'm under 5% battery. Barely experienced it on my moto x with 2gb ram. So I'm pretty sure that'll be a non-issue.

  • Wow good for you bro u got sony z1c while i got my sony zr its kinda old and legend...:-D yeah mental frame is perfect but i dont like glass back bro sorry...but what's important is what's inside and not a glass back hehe...:-D

  • Z1C = metal/glass premium compact. ;) That's why I'm still using it..

  • I am still using Z1Compact because nothing since then has suited my needs for size & style. Honestly if they just took the same Z1C body and put the 820 in I would happily pay a premium for the miniaturisation. As you say though they definitely need to bump the RAM. I would be happy with 3Gb even.

  • 4.6inch - perfect one handed operation!

  • And one more thing when you run out of ram the lag happens...

  • Yeah i did z5 compact is good the only bad is the ram bro ram what makes ram important? Lets just say every new updates has a new applications and some uses a alot of ram every new updates decrease ram due to new applications and of course look for the phone with high internal memory so u can get a lot of updates...if your complaining about the color its not the only color bro they will have black for sure and yes chrome is good specially when its black... and u want metal body? Maybe someday... You see bro when u say compact means handy easy to hold and use not so heavy thats why they use plastic but Premium material... small phone for me means less hassle...u can have the xz premium or the tablet size phone bro if you don't like small one...if you are a big man big hand compact phone isn't for you bro

  • You did see Z5 Compact right? I would be happy with just SD820 anyway, I would still get it. Unless it gets --stupid-- baby/childish colours. I would love a chrome finish like on the Premium.. but the silver from the XZ would be just fine too. I hate Sony (and everyone for that matter) for thinking that smaller means younger and has to be only pastel/playful colours. Gimme RAW STEEL! heh

  • Indeed bro... they always use the latest camera like in x compact the specs of that one is the sony x but the compact get the upgraded camera than just sony x...xz compact is a powerful phone if ever they just put a a SD820 how much if the rumor is true i mean upgraded camera+ SD835+4gb ram+64gb internal + SD slot and most important 2800mah its insane to have these kind of specs in a compact phone its rare and it can even match his own big brother the "xz premium lol...

  • If they add the camera that the xz premium will have....oh man I will get that no questions asked haha.

  • Only xz compact sorry i always remember the z line...

  • Me too i hope specs are true but i doubt it because if this is true they will definitely destroy all of their own phones...i think this one will have the specs of the old xz...its a pattern like x compact have the specs of sony x and xz compact will have the specs of xz and improve camera i think...

  • Compact has a very good specs...what i mean is there is no "xz compact premium" only zx compact...

  • I hope this is legit. The X Compact almost destroyed the Compact line.
