Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact - User Reviews

  • Is your issue sorted? Is it working now?

  • Is this VoLTE compatible? Is it working on the jio and bsnl networks in india?

  • i want sony to reissue the sony ericsson xperia mini with updated soc and modern design but same size

  • Yeap it works

  • Absolutely. Same thing with me. Did you find any phone with 3.5 and compact?

  • There are no proper compact phones available for us. XZ1c was the last compact with 3.5mm. In 2019 galaxy s10e and the mi9se are the only phones that i think is smaller to others but not in anyway a compact. The xperia 5 will be easier to grip but its a long phone. I found a 2nd hand xz2c in my area for $280 but im thinking mi9se and mi9t is of the same price maybe i'll forget compact phones until one is available. S10e will be cheaper nxt year.

  • This phone sems to be only option for me now (10/2019) because all other phones with descent performance are just too big for one hand usage. But there is one big problem with it which prevent me to buy it, and this is a lack of 3.5 mm jack. I love mine wired good sounding headset which I don't wanna trade to BT ones with matched sounding quality.

  • I agree 👍

  • from where did you get it

  • unfortunately with no 3.5 jack i will not buy this phone. i've only had xperia compact the last 5 years. but now i have to find a similar phone with 3.5 jack!!! any advice?

  • Why no 3.5 audio jack connection.....I'm not a wireless fan and need audio to be high qualtiy and reliable...That's a real dealbraker...

  • hi sony , please ignore the stupid phablet phone size , the size is make not sense 6 inch is already too big . 5.0 , 5.5 is still large but still reasonable size for mobile phone, dont follow other dumb ass to make a large mobile phone ,carry the mobile phone with that big size is look like moron

  • I was waiting for a successor to this phone with a height of 140mm or less to come out. But it seems no manufacturer wants to make smaller phones. Everything is a phablet these days. I had a Sony Xperia X Compact and switched to the Apple iPhone 8 which was fine. But I was getting bored with the iPhone 8. I found a new XZ2 Compact for $300 plus tax so I bought it. Can hardly wait to get my new toy delivered in a few days.

  • Help. Does ok google work from a locked screen?

  • why sony abandon compact phone fans! this is disappointing

  • i want an xperia 1 that it's 130mm..that is it..no changes..nothing..maybe a little less chin and top ...i cant ride my bike with this huge phones in my front pocket

  • Here is what the XZ2 compact should have been:

  • I'm really glad I bought this phone. Shame it's the last one for now. It's noticeable bigger than previous models. Dimensions 129x65xsomething mm were better in my opinion. If in 4 years they would make one phone in this or even smaller dimensions, no edges, It would be great.

  • this is the best phone i have had from sony, beautiful camera, very good call speakers, good battery, everytihing you need,.Thank you sony !!!!!

  • No they didn't?

  • This doesn't look as good as XZ1 Compact. It's higher and thicker. That sucks! XZ1 Compact is better.

  • Hi Sony Xperia maker...just want to say I love my xz2 compact very fast in all aspects but 1 thing I really hate is the headset designed it's totally annoying so it threw it away just make a simple a like a regular headset like apple sorry to mention.

  • If anyone is curious whether Sony is releasing another compact phone, Sony just released one called Xperia Ace. I think it was 140mm tall and has a 5 inch 18:9 FHD LCD screen. Its powered by Snapdragon 630 paired with 4GB of RAM and has 64GB ROM which is expandable via MicroSD. It has a single 12MP camera with 1.8f aperture. It runs Android Pie and in a 2700 mAh battery. Its design is a throwback of the Omnibalance design of the old and looks a lot more classy than the Xperia XZ2 Compact. If you want to see it, go to Sony Japan's website under Xperia. I think its a good phone and I really would like to have one.

  • I hope for a new model that is shorter than 135mm. Please, no more supersizing! The nice thing about the older flat rectangular designs (xz1 and older) is that you can use the phone as a leveling tool, like with the inclinometer app. With the new xz2 design with a rounded back side, it won't sit flat on a table, so you can't use it to level.

  • I would love to see a successor to the XZ2C. Size is perfect. Keep it less than 140mm tall. Add Qi wireless charging, make it thinner and I would buy it.

  • low signal AFTER last update or repair , but in 4G-LTE in Vodafone Romania-Bucharest , I have a little bad single comparation whit Huawei p20 lite. Its ok per total , good phone , good sound , good photo and video in day and night. Best slow motion video. Battery its good , I use stamina mode standard , not in maxim economy and still have 1 full day , and 7.5 H sot.

  • I like display 5.0, but if the battery can be replaced from the user I will take 3 such phones in my office.

  • Im satisfied with my xz2compact

  • News is Sony transitioning away from phones & other consumer elecs. Be ready! (But I hope they DO keep the good SMALLER ones!)

  • Sony if you read this, please don't stop making compacts. I'm a happy user of XZ2c and had Z1c before. It is the right size and good HW.

  • Wish 3.5 mm jack audio comeback rather than keeping a stereo speaker since if i want to hear a very good sound (gaming, watching, etc) just play the sound via a very good external speaker. And playing the sound via 3.5mm jack is more reliable than a bluetooth. Why putting a little stereo speaker in a compact phone anyway?

  • Sony should make a successor to their compact. Sony could actually fit a 5“ 18:9 screen on a 128mm or 129mm height x 65mm width x 9mm thick body for a minimal bezel with all it's components (camera, speakers, led notif, prox. Sensor etc) this will be a familiar sized compact as the older xz1c or z5c. I feel Sony does not want to compete on the mobile market. They must include an in-display fingerprint reader already. Imagine how easy it is on a compact phone and the display is P-OLED. 4/6 GB RAM, 64GB/128GB ROM. They can change the thickness of the phone as long as it has a minimum capacity of 4000mah. Sony may be out of the game soon but I hope I am wrong. If i'm not mistaken, they have pulled out their mobile stores in Asia except HK and SG w/c is sad.

  • If Sony doesn't come with a new compact in the fall, I'm getting the S10E. It ticks all the boxes for me. :)

  • Why sony never makes stock availability properly in India? still many models of Sony smartphones are not available Compact designs are my first preference cause nowadays all phones are becoming like Televisions More over these compact devices Sony keeps at higher price than the normal devices Hope sony is not prefer hard-work hence we are facing all these...

  • Im praying for a compact one, all nowaday phones are too big, if I wanna buy a tablet i wont give 1k euros for it.

  • Maybe if this whole Cinemawide thing doesn't work out, Sony will go back to 18:9 and even make a successor to their compact flagship series.

  • Thank you sony for compect series.

  • hopefully, It's not the last compact

  • Indeed, I hope Sony will correct this with the XZ4 Compact. Looking forward to MWC.

  • I like it because of its compact design but i found out it doesn't have 3.5 mm jack and no FM radio

  • The phone has both IP65 and IP68 rating, not only IP68.

  • 12.1 mm thick, that's so 10 years ago! :))

  • best compact phone

  • Is there a lock screen to reply to messages without going to home screen? How do you unlock the screen? Double tap option? Can you use google assistant while the screen is locked?

  • No xz1 and xz2 compacts in south africa . so I ordered the xz2 compact and received it today that is why I am here to comment . I ordered from Hong kong via bidorbuy the eqvivalent to ebay for 9000 rands = $ 620 . I am so so happy with the right size phone . I hate big screen phones , 80% percent of human bing like tv size screens on them 24 hours a day , sorry not me . GOD bless Sony.

  • The thickness with the narrow 63mm is perfact , it is designed by GOD.

  • I pray everyday for Sony created the compact line , I used them all the z1 z3 , z5 ,x and now the best phone in the world xz2 . the size the size of the phone the screen and the shape is god gift . I can use it with one hand , with one hand a flagship .

  • anyone finding the thickness uncomfortable? Does it have a double tap to open screen? Does ok google work on locked screen like Siri?

  • "- 24-bit/192kHz audio" Reference link? Aqstic AQT1000 is 32bit/384kHz.

  • '64 is ok for a compact phone' fo ypu know that size and storage are not related?

  • It has a tiny battery for such a thick phone

  • im ok with 64gb on a compact phone but if they would release it worldwide. they didnt release xz1 compact and xz2 compact in many countries. thats why im still using x compact

  • It is totally acceptable and welcomed, actually. This thickness allowed good sized battery and many things that would not be possible in135mm IP68 phone. Believe me, this phone is perfect. Using while walking with one hand is amazing!

  • What's compact in 5 inch phone ? I expected max 4,6".

  • WTF always 64gb storage ....... 128. 256 . 512 goooooooooddddddd

  • i want xz2 compact lite with SD636, 3/32 memory, cheaper camera and better positioned FP reader for 200E :)

  • 12 mm thickness?? In 2018 for a phone is absolutely unacceptable. In my opinion the Z3 Compact, which is a 5 old phone is by far prettier than this brick. Bring a new, bezel less Z3 Compact with the same size as the previous one and you have a winner!

  • It says in the phone description at Browser section "Document viewer".. Well, which one is that? I had to install a notepad-like app to open a .txt file.

  • Funny thing. I have a third party wired controller (xbox 360) that doesn't work on xz2c (with android 9). But on my Xperia X Compact (with android 8.0) works flawlessly. I have tested the OTG with mouse, USB stick and with audio adapter (not the one included in the box) and they work fine.

  • Black Friday deal at Giffgaff for £299! With free headphones. I have ordered it right away.

  • Yes there are blue filter night mode and you can set times when it changes automatically

  • Yes! In both Oreo and Pie.

  • Is there a blue light filter mode in this model, or the so called "night regime" for the display preinstalled, guys, thank you???

  • 507€ in Croatia, EU.

  • Mine has upgraded to Android 9

  • Strange. My Z3 Compact, running 5.1.1, has the option to double-tap to wake.

  • It is ironic that phone used to get smaller and smaller for the sake of convenience, and right now almost every phone is size of an encyclopedia. I think that users who don't extensively use their phones would like smaller footprint. Unfortunately this bezel revolution only focuses on increasing screen size and not decreasing phone size. I wish that Sony would release 4.5 inch screen with even thinner bezels.

  • Dear, I too had the same problem. It was working one week back after new update Jio is not working

  • Still interested now that this XZ2C is $300 cheaper than the Pixel 3 and it's still smaller. The thickness does bother me enough. It's as thick as my Moto E2. I could just wait for the XZ3C and hope they make it look like its bigger brother but smaller.

  • There will not be a XZ3C. This XZ2C has problems ignored over last half year by Sony, it is not very touch responsive. I checked at Best Buy and it is true what other blogs say, sometimes it takes 1 second or longer than normal movement of your finger over the screen in order to drag a cursor. I do not believe it is Sony's fault, maybe Qualcomm did some bad hardware or Google bad drivers for touch screen, because then I saw the same poor response on BlackBerry NoteOne. iPhone 8 is very responsive and precise, fast so whoever used iPhone can feel the touch response difference.

  • With the Pixel 3 going all-glass, this or Pixel 2 will be my options or at least until the XZ3 Compact arrives. It's no guarantee in four months that the XZ3C will go matte plastic. It could go all-glass like its bigger bro. XZ3 Compact could be one of the most underrated phones of 2018.

  • 600 EUR? haha in malaysia was rm2000... maybe... tooo expencive

  • Only $499. As cheap as a OnePlus 6. Will be $150 cheaper than a Pixel 3. This device really captured my curiosity yesterday because how fluid it is. I just find it too thick. Will wait for its successor instead. The XZ3 Compact should already have Pie installed by default.

  • My next Sony flagship XZ2 compact, can Not beat the price for thus cell.

  • Thank you for your comment, i'm using Sony XZs but no double tap, small function but very useful. I'll consider to change to XZ2 compact by the end of this year.

  • Hi, I’m considering buying dual sim version. Is there any known issues with this version? Dual sim really works? Many thanks

  • You are joking right? You think sensible people care what the back is made of? The part that they never look at. The back which is only touched by the palm of their hand? People who buy this phone do so because of the size, not the pretty glass back (which in its self has no real use or value).

  • "The ambient screen" is available when you move the phone up and down. You could double tap to unlock after that move.

  • Hey, I own this phone. Double tap to wake is not included. You can double tap only when on ambient screen. With 4g always connected, the average screen time for me is 5 hours. Wifi, around 7 hours. Depends on your usage though.

  • Hi Guys, - I'm consider to buy this phone, please let me ask sth, thank you : 1. Double tap function included ? 2. How long does it can be used if 4G always On ? Thank you !

  • No issues with My xz2 compact. You should check Your applications installed and after That Your reseller or sony support!!!

  • Hello, I think that there in new (last one) update has some isue.. My sony device, wifi and cellular data after update is working not so good.. It freezes and do noting.. only system restart helps.. But sametimes even that cant help. And yes, i alredy check my cellular signal - its fine, all my friends who has the same mobile operator everyting works great. Wifi often do that unpluging from i-net. In these days android smartphone is "useles" without i-net.. .

  • Hi Sony make a update for xz2 compact in India jio is not working. With app using it is a big problem. I purchased in Dubai. NO VOLTE OPTION. PLEASE MAKE A UPDATE

  • I am not sure which phone to buy. XZ2 Compact due to size so it can be easily used in one hand but camera is not near P20 Pro, Samsung S9 since I have Samsung S7 and quite like it or Huawei P20 Pro but it is bit too large phone.

  • I'm a big fan of the plastic back myself, I purchased compact over the XZ2 specifically because I was tired of rear glass cracking.

  • heh. disappointed at selfie camera. back camera 19mp camera... front only 5mp. shoulda been at least 13mp. ruins it kinda for me.

  • Odd remark. The plastic back is the one reason I might buy one, because it lacks the fragility of glass and the plastic back on the Z1 Compact was very good quality.

  • I don‘t get how they could cheap out on the back material. Nobody is going to pay € 500 for a plastic toy. It‘s the first time since Z5 Compact they got the front right (bottom bezel not thicker than top one), but now they messed up the back :/ XZ2 is available at the same price as XZ2 Compact. Even people who tend to prefer a smaller screen will get the XZ2 as it is the better phone for cheaper

  • Why this compact phone is not launched in India ?

  • I use the phone since 2 months and no issues with the xz2 compact. If You are a xz1 user, post Your opinion on the xz1 page. The xz2 compact is a amazing phone. Trust me I used Samsung, htc, motorola and iphone and the worst is Samsung.

  • Just bought an xz1 compact and the camera, images are soo over processed and blurry and noisy. I'm told it's a known problem with the device. My faith in their cameras has been shaken. I mean it's worse than phones 5 years ago. For battery it's perfect. xz2 be sure to try in the shop before buying. Don't bother with reviews. They have serious issues going on hardware wise.

  • It is quite adorable compared to her bigger sister! :D

  • Pros: OS stability Fast to open applications and web browsing Battery life (For a tiny smartphone) Comfortable in the hand Sound quality (Speaker and calls) Camera is equal to Iphone and Pixel 2 (If you want better buy a Nikon) Build quality (Iphone is the best but IOS is not really good0 Cons: 3.5 jack

  • sony other phone is bad. (Low sound qulity, bad camera) but sony xz1 & xz2 series is very Good.. my phone is xz2 compact. i used this phone 2 month.. no problam this phone.. good sound & camera. Speed is verry good.. all is good

  • The XZs Compact is amongst Sony devices that will soon enjoy Android 9 Pie. My question is about the screen. With almost all gestures and a small nav buttons will the screen to body ratio actually or theoretically increase slightly or significantly after the 9 Pie update you think?

  • Sorry I meant can it be made to double tap for sleep. Thanks

  • Is there any way it can be made to double tap to wake? Thanks

  • Hello, i'm looking for a compact phone, is it better xz1c or xz2c? thank you.

  • * Nearly 2 Months of user experience. + First of all it's the only "compact phone" in market which upto flagship standard. + Some say it's too thick but it's not a problem due to curved edges and design. Suits comfortably in my pocket. + Good battery life, improved with time. Stands up to nearly 2 day's with average use. + Fast, No lags and works smoothly. Great for games regardless of screen size (after all it's compact phone) + Sony is giving frequent software updates. + Very good sound quality, both speakers and earphone. + Camera is good but I feels it would be better. Specially in low light and moving objects. + Overall I'm really happy with this.

  • I am a little disappointed with its camera. I am not looking for ‘special effects’, just a clear picture. Its jpegs have too many artifacts for my taste, there is no raw option and sony doesn’t allow 3rd party camera apps (I can install them but they can only access half the resolution of the camera). The battery is not great and heats up when I use the phone. To use the second SIM you must sacrifice the external storage. If I could return it, I wouldn’t. I love the size.

  • Battery life is good. It nearly lasts up to 2 days with average use. Battery life improved with software updates and several charging circles.

  • Another bad joke from Sony...xz1c better in many aspects. They shouldn't choose a design, same like in older 2013's phones...ZR,SP...Looks like they're not capable to improve what is good to make it better.XZ2c could have a bigger screen and no more then the thickness of xz1c.But,think about. Another companies were capable to build very slim phones with strong configuration and great cameras, but Sony...not even a great camera...sad,but we still have hope!

  • yes it hasa RGB notification LED

  • Hows batery life on this device?

  • Do this phone have notification light? Thanks

  • Great compact phone. The 12mm thickness is compensated by smooth curves which means I don't notice it in my pocket. My previous phone (the awesome XZ1c) required a cover with rounded corners to prevent my pockets from being torn, but the XZ2c is fine without a cover for me. The screen size and resolution is better than my old XZ1c. I was apprehensive about the removal of the 3.5mm headphone port until I realised I could simply buy on ebay a bunch of adaptors to leave in my lunchbox, car, truck and bedside table (I hate using Bluetooth headphones). Q: Does anyone know whether the XZ2c can output video through its USB-C 3.1 port?

  • Great compact phone. The 12mm thickness is compensated by smooth curves which means I don't notice it in my pocket. My previous phone (XZ1c) required a cover with rounded corners to prevent my pockets from being torn but this one is fine without a cover. The screen size and resolution is better than my old XZ1c

  • I ordered a bunch of adaptors from eBay to keep in my lunch box, car and bedside table. Despite the missing 3.5mm port, I still like the XZ2c more than my old XZ1c due to bigger, higher resolution screen and rounded edges.

  • Dunno. I bought my XZ2c in Singapore for about $615. My previous phone XZ1c was also purchased outside Australia through ebay.

  • I like compact phones. I've been using galaxy a3 for some time. My ideal phone design is that of galaxy a3 size with s9 top bezel and round fingerprint scanner in the bottom like iphone 8. And with led notification. That will be the best compact phone.

  • It comes with an adapter for the 3.5 jack headphones

  • then its only happen to your phone, i ve used this phone for about a month, and there is no issue about the display, the only problem is i cant find any perfect screen protector for this phone in my country, do you have any advice?

  • do you even have the phone? i've used this phone for about a month, and there was no problem about the display/touchscreen, the touchscreen work very good, sensitive, and accurate, its work flawlessly even when i playing games like PUBG

  • I was waiting for the XZ2 compact, only to find out it does not have 3.5mm jack. I have (expensive) Sony noise cancelling phones and I cannot use it with this phone. I also wanted a 3.5mm jack, so I can listen to music in my car or even hook it up to my hi-fi system. Yes, Sony supply an adaptor, but it is another thing to carry around.... Sony should also have an FM radio. Whilst there are internet radio apps, but they make the phone very hot, but I hate the stuttering, then there are reception problems.

  • i've held this phone in my hand today while visiting a local store and was positively surprised. the XZ2 couple looked kinda... silly on pictures and reading that it's backed by plastic didn't help either. well, i don't know what the regular XZ2 feels and handles like since the store didn't have one, unfortunately, but the Compact makes a much better hands-on impression than pictures might have you think. the back is plastic, but it's a very nice one. kind of frosted with an ever so slightly roughened texture. some warmed up glass backs felt decidedly more plasticky next to it. then there's the metal frame that was also treated to a slight texture rather than being glossy and polished. next up, the shape. obviously, the phone is curvy and relatively thick by current design standards, but it follows the natural curvature of the fingers when held and, partly due to its smaller size, comfortably rests in the hand. the back's curve also neatly blends into the curved frame which then itself blends into the slightly curved screen. it's not 100% seamless, but you shouldn't feel any uncomfortable edges. truth be told, i'm almost a little infatuated with the design after initially approaching it with skepticism and if i was looking for a compact device, i'd put this one above any other (not like there's plenty of options to begin with). Sony went their own way here, as Japanese companies tend to do for better or for worse, but it seems they knew what they were doing

  • In this case all other phones were designed for right hand use!?

  • Xz1 compact is a rare breed it´s perfect for me in shape power, and even tough I COULD AFFORD a new one every year I would not do it, in one year smartphones will reach more than 350 00 on antuantu ...whats the point? 140k/150k is sufficient for me, I actually sold my guge phablet the note 8 to buy this baby, I will take care of it very well and when i see that new games are too power hungry I will just keep it in a glass box, it will be remembered by the connoisseurs as a legend, by the way, I hate how lots of different brands put the finger print reader in a rounded form at the back, I hate it, feels like it s a generic phone! couldn't agree more with you mate! cheers :)

  • just got my xz1 compact even tough the xz2 compact is on the market and like you, xz1 all the, dont care for the bump in performance, i wont change smartphones every year, xz1 is great I love it and it handles games flawlessly, you can throw anything at it....cheers mate

  • It is a real great deal for compact smartphones, but the only disadvantage is the thickness. it is fat :P I would like to see more compact phones not only from Sony. I am still using my S4 mini currently and I have to switch to a more powerful compact android smartphone.

  • What a fat guy lol. It's like Motorola Moto E. No way I would buy this. XZ1 all the way.

  • I think XZ2 Compact is a real deal if you are looking a small powerful device. My only issue as I have big hands is that it seems to be designed for right handed people only. Use your right thumb to power on/off and right index finger to unlock/lock fingerprint scanner. Very uncomfortable to use this phone with left hand.

  • Well, thickness - good, good battery - even better, but xz1 compact is thinner and has better battery life :)). No headphone jack - bad, very bad, i see it like that: sony is trying to sell more devices with LDAC. Double sim - perfect 👌 bravo sony. Plastic body - very bad, phone should be solid like a brick. I understand that fingerprint scanner on the back made device more bendproof but it is not enough. I would suggest using stainless steel ( don't forget the price sony is asking for xz2 c.) conclusion: i will be waiting for xz3 compact. P.s: Sony, if you are offering PlayStation with Xperia xz2 in some countries, you should do it everywhere. It is very mean from you making such offer in states but not in Europe, considering the fact that we pay highet price, same number but in euros €€€.

  • By adding some thickness to this phone Sony did the right thing. It feels good in the hand. People are so brainwashed to complain about thickness and missing head phone jack. So what. There is an adapter that you can use, just plug it in to the heads and leave them in place. Also good that Sony used plastic case back in compact. Finally some material again that does not play as finger print magnet. Display is 5" --> bigger than iPhone 8.

  • Additional info for you. Read this: A quote from the link above: But USB audio is different. In this case, the SoC sends the digital data straight out through the USB port and there is ZERO processing done on the device side. Of course, since neither your headphones (nor you) can process the digital signal, it has to be converted to analog at some point. This is why every device connected to the USB port for audio purposes HAS TO HAVE ITS OWN DAC/ADC built-in. So.. what he said is true. The dac chip inside xperia is indeed us[e]less. Because You can only hear it from the built-in speakers.

  • No. All outputs from the usb are digital. Your headphone is analog. If you use "usb to headphone jack converter", the digital signal from usb would be converted to analog by the little chip inside your converter. So you better becareful.. never use cheap low quality converter.

  • o common sony, in 2018 you are giving 12.1 mm thickness.

  • It disappears and then coming back. Disappear again and coming back again. That's a hardware defect

  • If i use the usb to headphone jack converter it still not use the dac?

  • This isn't an issue user use the phone with swipe not rub and the static can disappear very soon, so why you still repeat your same negative comments and flooding like a nerd.

  • There is always issues with displays with devices. I personally noticed that Iphone SE and Iphone 7 Has yellowish display on the top. It gets whiter as you move down. I went to apple store with Iphone 5S and Iphone SE (Both with same display) and showed it to Apple technician the difference as 5S was white compared to SE and he goes this is how it is designed. Which can't be true as both display are 100% same. You can't say there is a issue with XZ2 Compact as I am owing the devices and didn't see anything concerning so far, may be if I find it if I specially look for it.

  • As an owner I've never had the display issue so far, and I work with a lot with electronics, often ungrounded (thus electrostatic buildup). Some people complained about the touchscreen having 'deadzone' which I can kinda confirm I guess? But personally my biggest gripe with the phone is that as SOON as I unlocked the bootloader, the fancy dancy camera pretty much died (except making photos with the official app, black preview, no video, let alone high speed), and so far it's taken Qualcomm until a few days ago to release the source on the chipset (sony hasn't released it officially afaik), therefore it isn't even possible to compile your own ROMs, so it was useless to unlock the bootloader to begin with. So yea, I can't speak for the camera, but the device itself is a bliss to use, definitely has the best screen responsiveness so far compared to the older xperias (Z1c, Z5c) I've had, and that 4gb RAM and bigass snapdragon 845 is reaaaaally nice for a multitasker like myself, running spotify + waze + navigation augmentation apps + possibly getting called? my Z5c would literally hang and reset, this one doesn't :D so idk, depends on what kind of user you are.

  • This is a premium-priced phone with a known display issue. I suggest you people to skip this phone and wait for the upcoming xz3, or buy other brands. Dont waste your money for a defective product.

  • No, you don't test all of it, just like Jerryrigeverything test the scratch burn bend to the phones. Show me all your test if you a YouTuber on testing every phones.

  • Electrostatic or not or whatever you call it, the issue doesnt happen to the other brands. And doesnt happen to the previous xperia models. So it means: D e s i g n F a i l u r e !

  • Electrostatic not everyone can collect enough statics just like you. But why those so call "Sony user" can collect enough electrostatic? And release the static on the screen? My finger always have static but never blasting on my phone when I touch the screen, why the minority people can make it like a big problem?! Anyway it will disappear soon. Do you watch the Jerryrigeverything burn test, it also recovery very fast on the burn test.

  • Galaxy or Note, which generations? No drop slightly damaged in this 4 years? I mean no crack? No scratches? No protector case of used? No username? Anonymous can you answer me?

  • korea brand user here I am, almost 4 years usage, my battery is good, more durable than yours

  • I rub my old cheap xiaomi phone and nothing happens. So xiaomi have significantly cheaper price and better screen.

  • No one is talking about oled screens here. You have a Mourinho complex.

  • Who will rubbing the phone, it is not a Aladdin's magic lamp, it definitely a mal-usage. A user will swipe instead of rub. It will disappear does not like Oled burn in can not save. Why no one rub your Oled display??

  • It has issue with display. When rubbing screen - white stripes appear. Sure, they dissappear in time but for premium class device - this is big disadvantage

  • Had this phone been thinner, nobody could have stopped me from getting this. It would have been flawless.

  • Does this phone allow you to reduce the screen resolution to HD+ (720p+)? If not, then why the hell not?!!

  • Yesterday I've touched one. Simply at this moment has no rival in every aspect. Apple X and S9+ are so far behind (also in price range)! Sony is the Godfather of electronics! This device is crowning Sony again! I am happy with my XA1 dual and its performance overall for now and even though I've used Z5c and Xc, the XZ2c is from another league. Surely my next device will be this compact or maybe a future one.

  • Is 3D touch avail in this devise ??

  • I don't use Xiaomi, it cheaper quality build will push me change phone every year because my Xperia Z2 drop so many time and stay alive and work fine. The lightweight UI is awesome even almost 4 years usage still smooth and super fast (I press and swipe anything fast it bring fast experience too).

  • Dont be so sure if you have not tested or been using the phone personally. For me xz1c and cz2c battery performance are almost the same

  • Don't know how good is your battery life but after change from Xiaomi Mi5s I see that battery life is similar. Phone is fast as rocket, love the size, it's just perfect.

  • I saw it on Sony au website, maybe the resellers do not have enough interesting on it

  • Just saw that this is actually the second cheapest phone with SD 845, just € 10 more than OnePlus 6. but because the OP6 does not get cheaper because not that many resellers have it, this is about to become the cheapest SD 845 phone. Good job Sony

  • Xperia Z2 user here I am, almost 4 years usage, how about your battery, does it durable like mine?

  • now is little improvement but before very less feature and battery backup very bad. if no duets Sony product is very good but need to improve the battery Quality.

  • Really satisified with this phone. This is my first Sony, I have to say I wish I had switched earlier. PROS: - Feels awesome in hand - Size is perfect - Performance is awesome - Battery life is good - Screen is good CONS: - No jack - Little thick

  • Which Xiaomi version could you please specify it! Please provide the teardown reviews too, I beat Xiaomi has cheaper build quality as it has cheaper R&D and afortable price.

  • I vote and support this too....

  • any common complaints?

  • then you will finally say "i love notch" ?

  • I watch almost of all the smartphone teardown reviews, only Sony can take advantage on inner build quality score from me because it has enough materials to protect all the parts and its way sturdy than any notch designs, even when Sony adopt the notch design Sony will also keep the phone sturdy then those cheap OEM include the Apple.

  • comeon man. notch is a trend. your next xperia will follow it soon. just like when they remove the earphone jack. your next xperia will have a notch

  • Still better than ugly notch and curved screen corners.

  • look look.. this phone is "pregnant in the back".

  • really dont like finger print on the back. this phone looks like xiomi. just dreaming about xz1 compact but with 18:9 screen

  • I considered this phone but in the end went with XZ1C - lighter, smaller, better battery. Sadly, the new 'compact' phone is not all that compact any more.

  • Yes.top left corner Regards

  • it has a small led light in top left corner

  • i was look for its release for a long time, nice phone small and powerful, it is a little beast form gamming.

  • Can anyone tell me Does it have notification light.

  • I dont understand people who keep whining about missing audio jack. Use bluetooth or whaterver. I actually LIKE that this phone dont have audio jack.

  • Nice phone, really like the size, you actually do not have to have bigfoot hands to use it by one hand, also, you can keep it in your pants pocket. Really good phone, but only one reason I woudl rather buy XZ1 Compact instead of this newer phone.. "endurance rating". Battery not good, seriously.

  • 12.1mm thickness? what!!! Also a 2870Mah battery Terrible

  • Where is that coming from ? 168 g (5.93 oz)

  • Hey come on. Yes design isn't good but it is the best compact phone out there.

  • You should probably look into the High Resolution Walkmans for your audio needs, which would take that out of your phone needs and hopefully allow you to save money on your phone, maybe..?

  • This is almost certainly the same board as XZ2 with a couple of components unpopulated, which is dramatically less cost than creating a new board with a lower quality DAC, so probably not stupid.

  • Why was the Sony Xperia Z2 Compac not released in Australia?

  • 2018, the year the Xperia Compact became a plus phone :( This isn't a bad phone per say, but it stands as an example of Sony dropping the ball and completely missing the target audience, I trialed one of these as a potential replacement to my Z3c and thought against it, yes it has more MHz and RAM but that in no way makes up for losing the wireless charging, nevermind being too damn bulky to use comfortably with one regular sized hand. Bad form Sony, much disappoint.

  • There are some reports that they include usb type-c adapter to hook your headphones into.

  • All these goodies in a small form factor bound to get a little chubby. The best phone todate; Full stop. Dont care what the LGBT community thinks!!

  • A phone is meant to be held in one hand. Full stop. Kudos to Sony for keeping this form factor. I'm %100 certain that they will eventually win people. One thing that keeps this phone from perfection is lack of Qi wireless charging. Let's face it, Type C connectors are dodgy, and wear out quickly. Wireless is essential for these phones. Please Sony, hear our pleas.

  • Sony XZ2 COMPACT is the BEST phone in this planet full stop . compared to the IPHONE 8 : 3.4 millimeter shorter 2.3mm less wider ( excellent one hand handling ) a bit heavy 20 grams only and thicker which is perfect to hold battery 2870 mHa vs 1821 mHa which is 1049mHa more juice . screen bigger 5" vs 4.7" much higher resolution 483 ppi vs 326 ppi . excellent camera for 4k video and stills . But all my girls in my family using I-phones 8 and 7 and crying like babies year after year and after years the I-phones loosing battery at 12 at noon . What else can I say spending 10th of thousands on the stu...ied Iphones

  • hey SONY …. never abandon the dimension size of the XZ2 compact even if it is considered ugly by some . I will stay with Sony forever when they keep one hand sized phone , yes I will keep spend my money with you Sony on every compact iteration doing so since the Z3 compact

  • 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 100% 101%

  • six seven years ago I had the HTC phone for two days but were to complicated for me to use it , it was at the time were the Blackberry rein , HTC was the most beautifull phone I ever had since 1994 until today 2018 , was too much sleeky glass look and feel , but the best looking phone

  • The xz2 compact is the best ever smartphone in the planet right now full stop. I belong to that neglected demographic people who love the small dimension phone factor like the same who love the iPhone 5 . I hate big screen televisions in my pockets anything wider than 62mm phone cannot hold in one hand . I love to use a phone with one hand . my hand are so tiny like Donald trump hands and there is a billion sorry two billions Asian with tiny hands like mother Theresa . The Sony " miniature " " compact " " out of fashion " size phone is basically the same size as the most sought out and popular phone in the world the iPhone 8 . the Sony leave the iPhone 8 in the dust . people don't know that Sony phones are exist

  • Thicker more durable, slimmer more fragile, this is common sense. The slimmer phone must wear on a protector case which will become thicker too, so why not just take a phone without the protector case?

  • initially I don't like the design (still dont like the design) but its really comfy in my hand, unlike xz1c the edge is really uncomfy, I had to choose between xz1c and xzc2, I chose neither becoz of low storage in xz1c, and no headphone jack in xz2c in conclusion xzc will be perfect if it got headphone jack, altho it is fugly, but I accept it as it is so comfortable to hold I guess ima stay with my huawei nova caz al10 for a long time.

  • Honestly, I hate this new design, reminds of of an HTC. The only current phone on the market with the classic Xperia design is the Razer Phone. If I want a new Sony style phone, ill be getting the Razer.

  • Type C Headphones?

  • Got this phone and it is amazing. Looks much better than its two predecessors (XC and XZ1C) with the ugly "Loop Surface" design on photos, and even better than that in real life. Has a distinguishable Sony design. It's snappy, the camera is awesome, it is comfortable to use and the battery lasted all day yesterday (which is something I haven't seen in flagship phones for a long time). What else is needed? Well, I'd appreciate it having a minijack and a fingerprint scanner on its side, but nothing's perfect.

  • Hey SONY...... If u don't know how to design just search in Google images.... type XPERIA CONCEPT PHONES.....ok!! don't release stupid designed phones...!

  • 24-bit/192kHz internal audio DAC, with NO headphone jack to be able to listen to it. This.. is actually retarded :-| (For those who don't know: wireless headphones, have their own (crappy) little DACs inside them, and don't use the DAC inside the phone. So the only way you're gonna listen to that Hi-Res / High Fidelity Audio DAC, will be through the built-in speakers)

  • Because normal people are tired of wafer-thin phones that are like trying to pick up a razor blade by it's edges every time you lift it off the table. Outside of a few spec fans boys whose heads are buried in their phones 23.5 of 24 hours a day, who actually just "has to have" a bezel-less phone? I mean really, is a 2 or 3mm bezel a real deal breaker? If so, you need to get a life kids.

  • Did they just copy the latest Nokia designs?

  • I want to buy this phone. So what is stopping me? Lack of 3.5mm jack. Somewhat crazy for a company, which develops wired headphones. This phone does not have an FM Radio. Whilst internet radio is great, but it eats up data and I always end up with steaming issues. Sony could have added a DAB radio, which would have given them a USP. I am no fan of wireless technology. There is a risk from radiation emmisions. So mobile signals, Wifi, Bluetooth, yes the risks are low, but are surrounded by the stuff. Do we trust the industry to carry out proper research? In past the cigarette industry, told us smoking was not dangerous to health. Over, time we will know the answer. I also turn off my phone's Wifi and my Wifi router at home. I only turn on when needed to reduce risk both to me and my neighbhoors. Your Wifi signals go into your neighbours homes.

  • Strange, as much as I want to dislike this phone, I actually kind of like it. And having played around with it, the speed/performance of the phone is incredible and feeling in hand is also great (aside from perhaps FPS being a bit low). I've had the opposite experience with many other phones, really wanted to like them but just couldn't for one reason or another after actually using them.

  • Ugliest design in Xperia history..... very undesirable, thick, impractical! The last generation seem to be better than this one. And Holy shet!!! Sony engineer still unable to ditch the bezels.

  • why there is insist on curved body and edges and rear mounted fingerprint??? I think flat body make these size of devices much beautiful

  • A compact phone that weights 168g. Hmm... then it should be called XZ2 Dense instead.

  • and small battery

  • The thick on center should have more and more durable than cheap curved screen corners, especially the anti-twist metal frame will keep the phone sturdy.

  • Why no mention of Verizon compatibility?

  • Haven't seen a smartphone this thick in a while.Wow

  • Does anyone have an idea about the call quality on Sony phones in the US? I have a Z5C (international version) and it doesn't work well with T-Mobile. Loads of problems. The connection is just downright awful - the ones on the other end can't hear me. No such problems when I tried using the same SIM on an iPhone 7, though. So, it's the phone and not the SIM.

  • in a way, it is still a compact because they managed to fit the display in the same body size as the xz1 (only 6mm taller)

  • Now Sony is calling a 5" phone screen compact.😂

  • Great job sony! Amazing phone! Just 2 things then it would have been my favorite phone. 1 Amoled screen or OLED 2 less bezels. Maby about 80% screen to body ratio. Wel done!

  • 12mm and no have 3.5 head phone jack hehe

  • okay design engineer, Not LOL

  • Sony must be so happy, the design lovers will buy elsewhere, this one is made for the grown ups. Comfortable grip, enough-for-everyone easy access camera, no nonsense for no silly price. If you use your phone for more, you might need to get a life...

  • Still, the top and bottom are too big, and the side bezels are a bit too big as well for a 100% comfortable grip.

  • Talking design only, Is worst yet to come Sony?

  • Really awesome specifications but worst design ever from sony Xperia Z still better than this design,....from 2016 no good smartphones from sony, every model have some defects.... why you making bulky pig like models

  • My hand is skinny and glove size large. I absolutelly disagree with the review. It is not the worst ergonomic phone on the market, but it is not ergonomic and comparing to my previous Droid Mini it is horrible. I have found another problem, I constantly shutting the phone down because the power button is too low and if you operate by one hand you will press it involuntery. Another problem - vibrations are to weak and I cannot feel it in my jeans. I went to shop and try XZ1 compact, and while this phone has other problems ergonomically is superior to XZ2 compact in my opinion. You actually can operate it by one hand, the grip is MUCH better, the material is less slippery, the powerbutton with fingerprint reader is heaven, vibrations are stronger as well the notification led. It is funny, because people are complaining about 12 mm thickness, but the sides are so thin you cannot "squeeze" the phone hard, it will just slip. The 9 mm XZ1 brick is much more secure grip than this. This whole new design is only marketing, and I cannot imagine how the XZ2 full size can work, where even in reviews thay say it is slippery and the compact is by their measures not.

  • Bad design for me

  • -The back is brand new - the ergonomic curve was shaped to fit nicely in hand - and it does fit as nicely as a tailored suit. -The Ambient Flow shape with the small footprint makes for one of the best handling experience we've had in a while. The XZ2 Compact is very easy to pick up from a flat table, has a secure grip, and there is no immediate danger of dropping as the sense of slipperiness is gone. -So, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact doesn't have a breath-taking or futuristic design. Instead, it offers one of the most ergonomic shapes we've handled that feels just natural in hand. Source: Could you please tell us how big is your hand? Because the Gsmarena's review are on the positive side about the Ambient Flow design.

  • Okay so I was looking forward to upgrade from wonderfull Droid Mini and here are my first impressions from someone who hate big phones. The phone is too tall. You cannot safely operate everythig by one hand not a chance. The back is not somewhere between slippery and not. Comparing to my droid mini that stick to your palm like a glue this is a step back as well. The fingerprint reader is quick, bit no way the location is ergonomic like previous xperias. The power button is also not perfect and I am constantly turning the phone off by mistake. The auto display brightness is somewhat slow and too dimm in semi-lighted condition (like indoor lighted by a bulb). On plus sides the phone is super fast no lags (but my rooted 4 years old droid is too) and the phone looks much better in real life than on photos. In conclusion i really wish the phone had 4.6" screen.

  • ok if that's what you think of sony devices, why waste your time here in the sony area? go buy what you like maybe a samsung or iphone i appreciate sony's compact phones. they seem to be the only brand making powerful yet small compact phones. i wish other brands make such devices but so far nobody challenging sony's dominance in this area

  • that was in the past. sony is always going backward every year man. xperias now look like toys, especially xz2

  • i had a huawei P9 in the past. i was disappointed with the build quality. the lower corners were uneven due to the excessive amount of cement or glue used somehow causing corners to be uneven. i also had the same issue on a samsung s8

  • please post your comment under the Z3c section. the xz1c and xz2c are both using Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and both have fiber glass body so it's not as fragile as GLASS BACK design of Z3c. i've dropped my xz1c on marble tile several times and still is working like new

  • If your suggestion is great why no competitors copying? Maybe it need the power of trend.

  • My previous Samsung S2 also cracked by dropping on the concrete but my Xperia Z2 falls 3 more than times on contrete (asphalt road) is still fine. My Samsung W also suffered black screen of death, my Samsung Y also suffered the black spot on screen. That's enough! It's time to change, we want durable not toys!

  • I dropped my Samsung Galaxy S2 a million times. When the screen cracked in the left corner, the entire phone was still usable. When my Sony Z3C cracked it's screen after being dropped between 7-15 times during its lifetime, it was rendered completely unusable because the digitizer was dead as well, and the cost of getting the screen replaced was so expensive that it made no sense to bother. I just checked the prices and the cheapest place still charges €135 to replace it. After my Z3C broke I hesitantly bought a Huawei P9 but I quickly fell in love with the larger screen size, so for me it's a very welcome change to have a 5" Z3C. I am just worried that it is still prone to getting a cracked screen, and that I end up with an unusable phone if even just a thin hairline fracture occurs. Does anyone know if the latter is still the case?

  • life is short. enjoy your nokia and let me enjoy my sony xz1 compact. thank you for your "concern"

  • My hate for sony phones is based on first hand experience, I owned all of these: K800i P1i Xperia Mini then a samsung S3 Xperia ZR Xperia Z Ultra (still using as E-reader) (these were amazing phones) Then i upgraded to the Z3c, overheating and dead camera within 6 mos got another one... same problem, then i got an xperia M2, the phone just randomly went off then never worked again Got the C3 Ultra for my momas a gift.. phone overheated and made her throw it one the floor. got the z5c... worked fine but the camera was buggy as hell and quality would dip. then i got the XZ, felt fancy, but constantly hanged, overheated and the camera was unusable in sunlight. and would crap out on me in the most critical situations After that i said, screw sony... im not buying their crap anymore, not buying any high end crap from any manufacturer anymore. I have a Nokia 8 and an old Lenovo Vibeshot 2 now and couldn't be happier, The issue with Sony is instead of listening to its consumers and limiting its product line to focus on quality and tech. it continues to ignore them and pumps out a slew of Phone ranges that no one wants or needs, rebadging older generation flagships as midranges is not gonna generate a profit and when people experience the same bugs its jsut gonna make them angrier. Believe me i LOOVE THE XPERIA COMPACT series... but sony has lost my trust. HOW CAN SONY SAVE THEMSELVES?? 1-ditch all the This stupid Nomenclature, XA XV, XBABABAE, just focus on four Series Z, Series X, Series M and sercies C then use MARK1, mark 2, in classical Japanese tradition. 2-The minimalist designs are comfortable, however bring back the Awesome tech that make sony phones like the K800i epic, that xenon flash... GIVE US A CYBERSHOT EXPERIA, BRING BACK THE AWSOME keyboard phones, or phone accessories. 3-STICK TO ONE OR TWO COLORS ONLY, who the hell needs a burgundy metal poop gold frame, everyone uses covers! Make two base colors and release a ton of colored covers. 4-God bless the magnetic charger days, i loved those chargers, now we cant even get wireless charging in a top tier xperia. Use carbon fiber in the body construction and voila! but will sony listen? NO, they continue to ignore any positive feedback then complain when we stop buying their "falling behind" products.! Thats my two cents

  • What matters primarily for ergonomy is diagonal of the SCREEN, because with 5' it is, for many, uncomfortable to easily reach the opposite top OF SCREEN without changing the way of holding phone (with one hand)... And the previous XZ1 Compact was a 4.6' phone.

  • In his imagination

  • I've been using the compact versions for some time, because it fits the pocket and I could sit without having to take the phone out. That was the only but solid advantage of it. Who, I ask you, dear Sony, who is going to enjoy getting their pockets ripped by this heavy and thick brick ??? It may be a powerful phone, but it's lost every advantage over any other phone out there.

  • 12.1 thickness..... hahahaha

  • Ikr

  • Not too much difference between xz2 n xz 2 compact.. Only few differences like display size, LTE cat 15, wireless charging expect this all things are similar so why should we pay more for only few difference?

  • Lol RIP "Compact"

  • i'm not too happy with the design. it seems overly feminine industrial design. i shall pass also, the battery endurance is not as good as xz1 compact

  • indeed. too expensive for tiny plastic lcd phone with featureless user interface. should be priced less than 300 euro

  • thanks for that link from gsmarena. it also said ... “but noticeably heavier at 168g (up from 140g).” “the analog jack didn't make it to the XZ2 series and is now officially retired.” “the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact doesn't have a breath-taking or futuristic design.”

  • 12.1 mm seriously???

  • "The XZ2 Compact is very easy to pick up from a flat table, has a secure grip, and there is no immediate danger of dropping as the sense of slipperiness is gone. We can confirm the XZ2 Compact is of a high-end build and delivers on the promised sturdiness. The metal frame is thick, the front is a very nicely looking Gorilla Glass 5, while the frosted plastic on the back is just great on touch." Source: I am worry the trolls come here and blah... plastic phone, you know they have the "same again" trolling skills. So I must share the Gsmarena's XZ2 compact review here.

  • Believe me I tried it in a store and it is compact. It fits perfectly and it is beautiful at the same time. This phone would be the best compact phone if it had the same material back as his bigger brother ;D

  • The amount of hate Sony phones get have really gotten out of control. If am not mistaken, the performance review of this device especially the camera is extremely positive. so why so much criticism??

  • What is the release date in UAE? How much it will cost in terms of UAE currency? I wish Sony should have added some of the applications like MS office, notes, so that we can use the Mobile as PDA like before.

  • Doesn't matter the bezels or the screen ratio because the phone width is still 65mm wide and easy as previous compacts to use with one hand. this is an ideal phone size ,10 out of 10 . by the way after using cellphones for almost thirty years I became big screen HATER . yes I hate carry tv screens on my body twenty four hours a day

  • is there a reason sony phones get so much criticism?? or is it just hate?

  • After release, I hope to read opinions from people who actually have/use this phone. Compact phones are best for me, so I'll have to choose between XZ2 Compact and IPhone 8.

  • agreed. imagine sony with 4000mah.

  • 5 inches 18:9 is as small as 4.8 inches 16:9,stop complaining please.

  • If it's 5", it's not compact, Sony.

  • Dual loudest stereo speakers is the big improvement and main camera quality also has big improvement.

  • I have been waiting for 3 years for such a phone, well done Sony, could be better but it is the best compact with 2 SIMs in the market

  • if I were sony i would have kept the 4.6 inch display but reduced the bezels to 85% screen to body ratio. that would have made everyone happy. have you seen their mp3 walkmans?

  • Sad to see the compact be lost in the sea of large phones. 5in screen though nice is to big, 4.6in was truly the sweet spot for one handed use. I guess I will have an xz1c until further notice.

  • What buggy software are you talking about? And I got oreo a few weeks after the pixel on my xz premium. I have come across one bug and thats basically it

  • I wonder, why people have a need to critisize something they don't care for. Lack of interests in life perhaps? I don't know, but well... people...

  • It has protective glass It's a flagship !

  • What he say is true. I am pretty sure Xperia is better, S845 plus 4 or 6GB ram must be more and more powerful with lighter UI and 1080p display.

  • Sony has never released a compact phone in india forget it

  • For every one complaining about the thickness... I Have Z3C which is 8.something but xz2 compact fits much better into my hand and I didn't notice that it is thicker. 12.1 is in the center of the phone, on sides it is thinner. It perfectly fits into hand, it's very nice (much nicer than on photos) and it feels very solid. I was sceptical but now I have preordered it. Weight is also noticeable, but I kinda like it, it gives me a feeling that the phone is solid and durable. Finger print sensor is much more accurate as it is bigger, location is also fine, it is always on and unlocking is very fast. Display is beautiful, very smooth with nice colours. Front speakers are also much louder with better quality. It is different phone than rest of Xperias, but I like it as it is typical Sony, they do whatever they want. Either you love it or hate it

  • Yeah man I know that but we are also compromising a lot of things like 2013 kinda design it's very very thick.

  • Damn. Could they make the bezels a lil thicker? lol

  • All Sony xperia flagships since 2016 has scratch proof camera lenses, regarding to the updates Sony almost beating Google in releasing updates speed and stability. If you want a smartphone that can last at least 3 years then you definitely want Sony in general based on my experience.

  • I am curious what is inside the XZ2 compact, but from the Gsmarena's review I found it has a huge amount of metal frame, anyway the teardown should be more interesting, let's hope it can surpass S9 then it must be the best power horse compact phone fit in hands and the same time is the best for sporty lifestyle.

  • Hi guys, anyone knows if there is any protective glass in front of REAR camera to avoid scratches from keys etc...? And second question: what´s about sony support in general. I mean software updates, security updates etc... I would like to buy this phone instead of my Lumia 735 and I want to be sure that phone will last more than 3years that´s why these questions.

  • Read here In the UK there is a PS4 or PSVR free

  • if u are from uk, they give u xz2 if u buy ps4. uk phone retailers want to quickly empty their xz2 stocks. i dont know why they do that.. maybe because they difficult to sell xz2

  • Which website / country is offering the extra goodies?

  • Did you skip one Sony thread trolling on this site? Mr Anonymous 6p$e.

  • Thiness don't hurt erginomics. Ergonomics depend on design of phone. But, for a 12.1mm thick phone, l am sure it is not ergonomic and won't even fit in some pockets. What's the point of having a compact phone if it is not ergonomic? No wonder why no one buys sony phones nowadays. I miss old sonyericssions.

  • Dude, they are offering crazy free goodies with the phone.

  • What the hell where they thinking? I hardly belive that you can handle this phone with one hand. They could round the corners but is big 135? Noooo. 12.1mm thick? Omg. Well i guess the compact fans are out of options. Only waiting for xz1 compact drop price a lot. I guess that is the last android "compact " phone. 😕

  • Troll

  • 18:9 screen and below 74 screen to body ratio. thickness above 12 mm... and many more begger specs. Sony you doggy, donkey why are u producing mobiles. betters produce only TVs or end your electronic business and sell banana or mutton...

  • 500 Euros should be the best price for this phone. Then it would be a bang for buck even for that price.

  • Everybody's crying about the thickness... How many of you have actually held it in your hands? I'd rather have a thicker, grippier phone than one of those super thin things you can't hold comfortably. I have a Nexus 6p now, and it's an ergonomic nightmare if you ask me. I can't wait to go back to something smaller and sturdy.

  • what about double tap to wake up feature?

  • Without 3,5 jack and without radio :'-(

  • why? if the teardown reviewer says bad review, you will bash him. and accuse him as a troll. you just want to hear good story of sony

  • (uses sim 2 slot) no. no. no.

  • Please provide a full review of this beauty! Cant wait to see the tests on battery life, speaker quality and camera performance! Full review ASAP please!

  • Oh please, speak for yourself. I and many of us like its brick design.

  • I extremely anxious about the teardown reviews.

  • Hello, what's sar on phone sony xperia xz2 compact (head and body) ?

  • It's always been in Sony's design language for your phone to help in self defense, like the extreme sharp edges, and big bezels, but people did not understand.. now they changed it to look nicer but still be a brick so u can hammer someone attacking u.. Sony thinks about ur well being first

  • Again, no FM Radio. Bye-bye Miss Sony.

  • I liked Sony compacts, had a Z1 Compact an now I use a Xperia Z5 Compact - 8.9 mm thick and a 2700 mAh battery. Now, almost 3 years after Z5 Compact launching, the XZ2 Compact is 12.1 mm thick (?), 2870 mAh and has no jack. I guess I'll skip this "upgrade" and search for another brand's compact phone.

  • 12.1 mm and 168g ?!! What f'ing a brick!! The Galaxy S9 weighs about the same (163g), is 8.5mm thick and has 5.8" screen!

  • With 12.1 mm thickness their should put 5000mah++ battery

  • 600 EUR? 600 EUR?!?!?! ROFFFLL piece of pewoop.

  • Sony Xperia XZ Premium is only Phone from Sony with grat design, quality, performance and most of all with no problems like other models from Sony. This new phones are pathetic...12.1 thicknes, haha cmon Sony its 2018

  • Best Compact phone In the world right now.... Become my dream phone

  • People can grip the Z5.. XZ.. big bezel and very comfortable even the camera is on the top corner is still very handy it has big bezel to grip. All of the design are great!

  • Go buy a Sony beaSt XZP

  • no headphone jack is an issue for me.

  • You r 100% right sir. Sony announces their products and then comes into the market almost after a quarter. Unlike Samsung which brings their products in the market before the announcement.

  • main cameras ARE now moved to centre width in xz2 and xz2 compact .GREAT GREAT GRAET GREAT GRAET GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT. when it was stupidetly in the top corner my tumb finger always apear in the photos taken in 50-70 % of the time. THAT WAS REALY REALY TEALY STUPIED . I want to cry why sony engeeners took them ages and ages to figure out how idiotic was to place the back camera in the very top corner were your fingers holding the camera and cover the lens .

  • A flash sale? When? And how much $ did u pay for it?

  • hope this mighty monster will be available in india before May orelse honor's & mi's will acquire the spot n sony wont be having space for much sale.

  • Will this Device be available in India 🇮🇳...?

  • How do you like the XZ1 Compact? Never considered it until I saw XZ2 compact, lol,.. Do you have any problems with it? The Sony forum has it all full of issues... :(

  • This phone is way too thick. This phone has no headphone jack. This phone has no more radio. I'm actually ok with the screensize. It's the smallest 1080p+ smartphone and therefore can be called compact. What people not realize is that this phone has a 18:9 ratio instead of a 16:9 ratio. It's still 6mm but it's still the most compact 18:9 phone today. Sadly, the thickness of 12.1mm is ruining this phone entirely. I know it's thinner on the edges but I don't care because you can feel this bulge when you have this phone in your pocket. And that's what's bad about it.

  • xz2c's back is plastic. oh, my g...

  • I dunno, man. But gsmarena even made a poll before about the best compact phones. They included S8 as compact in their list. XZ1 compact lost and the S8 won.

  • Let's see... 5.0 display, 12.1 thick, 168g....so what's "Compact" about this? Glad I got the XZ1 Compact when it went on a flash sale for a day at Amazon.

  • Very very nice compact phone but it's too thick

  • 12.1 mm for a flagship in 2018? That's thick

  • 168 gram for compact phone ??

  • Guys with very small hands

  • The Mi 3 has indeed a 5 inches display like this one but the phone size is 8% bigger.

  • Not everyone has the same kind of hands. I have an X compact and I also a Mi 3. The former is way more comfortable for me.

  • Rubbish comment. Who gives all the thumbs up to these type of comments anyway?

  • Dont like this new design... I loved how Sony had their own desing if i can call it that way... Today all phones are 6inch and 5inch is a compact now, whats next 7inch phones?? In a year or 2 we will have to buy bags for our phones XD

  • 5 inches is small enough for one hand usage, try before complaining, my hand is 17 cm tall from my middle finger to the very bottom and i can reach all the screen in one hand knowing that my phone is 1 cm taller and 0.5 cm wider than this one, how tall is your hand?

  • So they took everything I like about the design - which is what made sony so unique -and then threw it away. Might just wait for the next compact phone and hope they got their mind straight for it

  • And then after a year of constand plug in/out, the wear and tear kicks in damaging either the phone port or the cable, and other times lost the cable too.

  • Compact means being able to reach top/bot of the screen one hand with a thumb without stretching it forcefully. And 5" inch ain't cutting it specially if your a girl with small hands.

  • Watch out for Samsung trolls, payed trolls. Couple "students" write here comments.

  • It looks like a €100 phone. XA1 has classier Design than this. They should have just taken the XZ2, which looks good (only a bit thick), and shrink it down in size and they had a winner. But as it is, the iPhone 8 is probably a better small phone option.

  • Good specs and also compact but too thick

  • I will say it again, since when the compactness of the phone is measured by the screen size?

  • Everything is ok...... But too thicker, and need to improve 🔋 battery life.

  • look like sony have no interest in new idea, and battery stil less battery amount

  • 100% right

  • The headphone jack is now an accessory in the box.

  • 12.1mm, this is really thin

  • You can use 2 in 1 cable for headphone and charging .. You see it's simple issue to keep your health quite fit

  • Why so ugly curved display??? Damn sony.

  • Like xperia sp

  • Quite disappointed cos there is not headphone jack. I am not hear to complain about my health problems but i am not supposed to use bluetooth speakers, at least not in this life time.

  • Yes i have. I have to swear on companies like this because they deserve nothing less that my anger.

  • Life continues, cry over Sony that continues with new Design. btw XZ2C is my next phone nothing have this King Spec with it small Dimension

  • Heavy, Sony was all about light products in the Walkman days...

  • Too heavy, we need light 130 gram premium phones.

  • How can sony call a 5" a compact? You kidding!!!! make it a 4.x" then lets talk again about compacts!

  • As per the specs this must be a very good product.. Waiting to launch.

  • Thickness and weight ruined the product.

  • Sony was the first one with side fingerprint scanner, now use generic back sensor was the only one with elegant and durable omnibalance desing, now looks so chinese and fragile . . was the only compact phone with premium audio output, now only with LDAC/aptx hd ready headphones. was the only one with built in Active Noise Canceling 3.5 audio jack (yes, compatible with 5 pin headphones, somethimg that too much people ignore) WHY?!!!! BECAUSE OF A B1G@SS COMPACT SAMSUNG B1TCH??!!!! where is your honor SONY? Life continues, I´ll switch to Xiaomi, more balanced than -some- phones, and yes, chinese.

  • well Sony has the best wireless head/in-earphone product line on market. Customers can also be benefited by Sony's LDAC support and. Since Sony has added wireless charging to XZ2 series, customers can connect to a wired adapter while charging or choose Walkmen series for their wired earphone and smart phone couldn't provide premium sound source for wired earphone anyway. Another major feature should also be noticed that XZ2's speaker should be much much better than others.

  • GS3 is a compact phone considering today's standards.. lol

  • Whatever you say, XZ2C is still the most compact phone out there with flagship-grade specs. There's no other

  • damn now that Samsung realize how stupid it is to remove 3.5mm Sony goes and did it...

  • You forgot it is a plate design (ambient flow) the XZ2 curving back cover is unique not like other and the phone will fit into the user's palm.

  • Everything is ok I love this model.. but too much thicker.............

  • On point!

  • It's smaller than iPhone 6/7/8 except it is thicker

  • Shut up and take my money Sony

  • I agree completely. Don't compare to previous generation, but compare to what you consider a compact, "pocketable", easy-to-handle phone. For me, it's around 12cm. The XZ1 is 0.9 too big, so not nice but borderline bearable. The XZ2 is 1.5cm too big!!!! No, just no.

  • if you use your sd card as internal storage it will be encrypted. so in the best case you can only format it to use in your new device. If you use it as an external storage, it won't perform as good as an internal storage for applications and games. It depends on how do you like to use your device. I might prefer cloud storage for photos (since I dont shoot nudes any cloud is secure for me) over micro sd card any day. Besides I'm a desktop guy who holds several 2tb disks to store all of his archive. Besides you can always lose your microsd card along with your phone, cloud or regular pc sync sounds like a more solid option to me.

  • I remember using the Moto G (2014) with a curved back, thickness was 11mm. It was super comfortable to hold in the hand due to the curve and I didn't think it was too thick at all. If the XZ2 compact is like that, thickness shouldn't be a problem either.

  • I know, it's thinner. the XZ2 Compact is 2.5mm thicker, but you have to keep in mind that on the edges the phone is 7mm thin (thinner than an iPhone), but in the middle the phone is 12mm thick. It's not a huge deal. If the phone wasn't curved and getting thinner on the edges, it would be 12mm thick everywhere and really uncomfortable to hold. But it would have a 3500 mAh battery at least.

  • Kinda true, but Samsung's screen is not too comfortable for reaching the top and bottom, I think the compact with it's 0.8" smaller screen is much more manageable, but everyone's hand is different, maybe this phone is not for trump, who knows... Copy paste, calibrate and see for yourself

  • look at the thickness of their predecessor, smaller phones with less thickness

  • Any one stating the size is still a compact then consider this is nearly the same size as the GS3, and actually thicker. Plus nearly a full oz heavier then the XZ1 Compact. not a compact phone.

  • My votes are still for XZ1C.... Nearly a perfect phone either aspect.... And with 'Nothing Missing'....

  • What was wrong with the XZ1?

  • Sooooo happy I upgraded to Compact xz1. XZ2 No 3.5mm Fingerprint on the back Hardly a compact Looks like a GS3 only Positive of this being released is the Price will drop on the XZ1 Compact for others.

  • But it's a small phone.

  • Dude, it only has 2870...

  • A true winner compact , well done sony for keeping the phone at 65mm as te previous compacts so we can use it in a single hand . bravo

  • it is big difference if you want to use with one hand. i'm pretty sure after certain age, thumbs not getting any longer, you need to stretch your thumb to get those top and bottom screen and with those bezel less design, it won't help you to reach those top and bottom screen with one hand without having some issues. it is still compact but it's certainly less comfy to use for single hand, that's the whole point of compact phone, single handed use. samsung s8 compare to other big screen still comfy to handle with one hand. it is not that big but some people would have problem to use that phone only with their thumb xz2c its not that bad.it is still a good phone.but you're missing the whole point of the very first reason why this line exist in the first place. compact size, manageable with one hand, and comes with high end specs. those changes are not a big deal but for some people it is deal breaker, they lose the interest to get this phone because basically xz2c is not special, it's just like other phones on the market, there are options in the market you know, sony is not the only phone manufacturers. very different case compare to xz1c, there is no other phones like that other than iphone se

  • Apologies, it's actually a 12% bigger screen, not 18%. I was counting 5 inches 16:9 but the actual ratio is 2:1.

  • You're saying that a phone that's 4mm longer on the top and bottom side than the Z3 compact is bulky. Listen to yourself dude, you're being silly no matter how you look at it. They managed to fit a 18% bigger screen at the expense of 8mm vertical space, anyone would take that trade off other than you. I would understand if you were complaining about Sony of all companies dropping the headphone jack, or the pricing, but you're complaining about the stupidest thing possible. Even with the absence of a headphone jack I'm seriously considering picking up the Z2C in a few months. I really wish it had a headphone jack - if it did I would buy it on release, it's such a shame really because it could have been perfect.

  • Am pretty sure all of the compact phones cost that much when they were released. I don't see the downside here, sure, it's thicker and stuff, I get it, but it's only 3mm and we got a bigger battery, you can't deny that having a bigger battery equals more battery. I know about efficiency, no need to educate me, but with that efficiency and more battery, this phone has the potential to have one of the best battery life out there. And since they increased the screen size to 5" and bumped up the resolution to 1080p, they had to improve somehow. I GET IT, it's thick, the XZ2 is thick also, but I don't understand how the thickness prevents someone from buying a phone. Yes, I understand, it would be nice to see OIS and 4K60, the headphone jack is gone (at least don't complain about that, it's not 2016, plus, in a few years we probably won't see a headphone jack on ANY smartphone. Samsung and LG are one of the sole survivors and they're gonna ditch it eventually, I guarantee you. Same thing with the Pixel, Google bashed Apple, and 1 yr later, they removed it). Yes, I get it, we need smaller bezels, hopefully on the Premium coming soon. The only thing I wish this phone had was 4K60, side mounted fingerprint sensor and not too thick. But, IT IS NOT A BAD PHONE

  • Despite a lot of people not liking its dimensions, I highly doubt there'll be an SD845 flagship phone more compact than this. Screen-to-body ratio could have been higher though, but it's not really bad as it is. Hopefully, next year's Snapdragon flagship SoC will be even more power efficient so that a smaller battery would still last really long. Thus, the successor to this phone would have more compact dimensions and even higher stb ratio. For now, let's just take a moment to appreciate this phone for having a very high pixel density.

  • Let me educate you. It's not just about the thickness. It's about the whole package. The beauty with the xperia z3 compact was the very fact that you can hold it and squeeze it and use it comfortably in one hand. It wasn't bulky. It wasn't unwieldy. The design was ergonomic and it worked very well. It had an amazing battery life and it was one tough cookie. The screen could have been better but at its heyday, 1080p was the riot and so 720p was not bad at all. Now we have a taller and thicker and heavier phone with an asymmetric back that, while possibly making the grip better, does NOT, for all intents and purposes make a compact phone. And for what? To allow for a measly increase in battery capacity? I wasn't one of the people clamoring for a bigger battery. Efficiency beats size any day anyway. I can probably forgive it if it also increases battery life nearly 50% but i'm not holding my breath here. At the end of the day, marketing it as a compact and slapping a price tag twice that of a proper xperia compact is a travesty even to the loyal sony fanbase.

  • The xperia x8 bulge doesnt work well iphone 8-esque sides oh well makes the xz1c an easy choice

  • I just have to be, because people on here are impossible. Sure, it's thick, bot okay, not a huge dealbreaker, and since when do we care about phone mass? When did someone say 'Oh, I can't hold it, it's too heavy'. Okay, sorry for calling you names, I was triggered, I have no quarrel with you. But, here's just a friendly note (to everyone, not just you) the phone on the sides is 7mm thick, it even explains on their website, but it's 12mm thick in the middle ONLY, and most of smartphone users don't touch the middle too much, so it's not everywhere 12mm, it's only in the middle, so from the sides, the thickness is increasing to the middle and that is it. So, 1. Thickness should not be a problem, you all wanted a bigger battery, so there you go, the biggest battery in any Xperia Compact phone 2. 5" screen, it's still a Compact PHONE, not the screen. So it's not a bad phone at all, calm down y'all

  • It's taller than the z3 compact, the last great xperia. It's also nearly 50% thicker for only 270mah increase in battery. Then it's around 40g heavier. There's nothing compact about it. How about you use YOUR brain and not be ironically ignorant?

  • Don t like no radio no jack. Finnaly small phone big hd screen. Also only 5 mm more is like for those without an xperia device ,more like gigantic godzila phone. Ha ha ha 5 mm.only

  • At first, I was also dissapointed with the thickness, but then I saw that the thickness is only in the most center point of the phone, with a round shape which fits nice in the hand. The bulge is probably because of the fingerprint sensor or something, because otherwise I don't see any reason they would need that. Battery is only 170mAh more than the old compact, so not related to it. Related to the size of the phone, yeah, I think it is a move in the right direction. As long as it is the same width, it is ok. All in all, a nice package, but not worth 600 euros, more like 500 tops.

  • You try fitting a 10000 mAh battery in a 6mm thin phone and then you can complain how much you want.

  • I'm gonna create 1 entire page me just replying to people about the 5" screen. Okay, Basics 101: The screen is the exact same width as XZ1 Compact, but it is TALLER, and because it's TALLER and not WIDER, it has smaller bezels, you know, the thing you WANTED? Now, the phone is thicker because of the battery, because... Logic... What is there not to understand?

  • You HAVE a 4.6" screen, they made it taller and trimmed down bezels, but NOT INCREASE THE SIZE BECAUSE OF THE SCREEN. I must be triggered because people here are arrogant and ignorant and don't understand basics 101

  • It IS THE XZ1C size, a 5mm difference in height does NOT make it gigantic. Are people blind? Can they not read the dimensions?

  • Xperia XZ1 Compact dimensions: 129 x 64 x 9.3 mm Xperia XZ2 Compact dimensions: 135 x 65 x 12.1 mm Wow, a few mm surely makes a GIGANTIC difference. Sit down

  • MKBHD Quote: 'Dear every smartphone manufacturer ever, feel free to make the phone thicker to fit a bigger battery. It will not make the phone too heave or too thick, and everyone will appreciate the big battery' BOI WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT. It's 12mm thick because of the BIGGER BATTERY.

  • The only thing larger is the screen. Do you not get the whole 'Big Screen, Small Body' Trend?

  • Umm, screen size does NOT mean phone size. The XZ2C is bigger than XZ1C by a millimetre, no difference, the screen is 5" but it has smaller bezels than previous XZ1C. It's better in every way, I don't see what's your problem here

  • Oh tell me about it. I'm sick of these people just complaining. 3000 mAh battery in a small phone? Umm, isn't that a Win-Win scenario? Everybody should be grateful.

  • Do you want a big battery or no? iPhone 8 has like a 1700 mAh battery, and it's 7.3 mm thick, the XZ2C is 5 mm thicker but almost double the battery. Do you want it or not? STOP COMPLAINING

  • According to some rumours, Sony will release a phone 22mm thick without 3,5mm jack...hehe Sony is a joke, sadly

  • I riley like sony phones, this one u have made a mistake they are a lot of good looking concept u can choose from not this can u do some changes to this two phones,

  • 12mm thick, maybe in 2007...haha sony go home

  • You have clearly never had an Xperia device before.

  • Microsd would still work even if your phone died. And future removable storage are sure to improve in the future.

  • i actually liked the design.I never liked a sony after z3c until now. phone looks fine 12mm is acceptable by me. but I'd expect a bigger battery when I heard 12mm. since I have bluetooth headphones I'm fine with no 3.5mm jack. Only if it had 6/8gb ram and 128gb option everything would be better. micro sd never works as fast as internal memory.

  • Big disappointment!!!! This is not "compact" phone! 5" screen - what makes it different from other brands' models? 600 euro is crazy!!! Sony was the only one to offer a small sized phone until now. Now they lost this market. I will wait xz1c to drop price - the last compact phone.

  • You lost all your bet . xz1 with 2700mah which less that xz1 compact endurance rate = 82h Now with smaller screen and larger battery with updated processor it will be 90h You iphone ? 66h

  • Thank you. Sony just save me from buy their new phone

  • I was waiting for the XZ2 compact specs, but since it's larger, I will go with the smaller XZ1 compact.

  • I love the sony omnibalance design...feels so premium and great...all the excitement dies down when sony shifted over to a curved one....not to forget the 12mm thivk compact phone...lol. Thats horrible. Last years xz1 was my 1st priority and it is gonna remain my 1st even after the official release of xz2. U r going the wrong way sony. Rip

  • sony why dont stick with your last design? we just need a little upgrade, like 1. 4.7 screen with balance bezel from top and button (5" inch bonus with the same last phone size). 2. 1080 x 2160 pixels 2. little thinner 3. speaker placement like from z5 compact 4. camera light aperture f/1.6 or f/1.8 5. more battery (for me its just a bonus, coz my 3yr old z3 compact last 2days with normal use). I wish i have knowledge in CAD, so i will pass a better design to sony. for now, i save my money again for not buying sony phone. i just stick on my z3compact again.

  • What i wish in next Compact generation: - COMPACT size and LIGHT weight.. Not more than XZ1 compact - OLED screen with minimal bezels - Decent Camera that can take very good photos at any light condition - Good speaker - Side mounted FPS (if screen fingerprint scanner is not yet possible)

  • I think you’re wrong. No, correct myself, I am quite sure you’re wrong.

  • so...radio gone,3.5 mmjack gone hd screen ok. wow...great device? my xperia z5 compact still rocks.

  • Why do you need to change your phone so often?

  • It looks like my xperia sp, but it's fatter.

  • 12mm thick?! I'd rather have low battery life and carry around a battery pack than own a phone that thick. Anything over 9mm is pushing it in anything outside of a large battery speciality phone, but 12mm? Hardly compact!

  • Don't you have anything else to do?

  • Sit quiet ... my XZ1 Compact goes 3 days on battery of 2,700. your iPhone does not have stamina mode that makes wonders. real iSh**p.

  • Haha COMPACT, made my day Sony. And 2870mah battery on a 5 inch android? I can safely bet all my bitcoins in advance, that my iphone with ridiculously small battery will last much longer.

  • Yes this one is really fat and thats fact.

  • "From when" or since when the compactness of the phone is measured by the display size. Well so we can use expression fats0 on a smartphone too you say.

  • XZ1 vs XZ2

  • I was really amased that XZ2c is bigger than XZ1c... the whole point of making besels smaller is to make phone smaller... Yep... XZ1 is definitely better compact phone than XZ2... Hopefully XZ3 will be smaller than XZ1... so it would really be somewhat compact.

  • The shape reminds me allot of the ZR, Which i actually prefererad over their later 'flat square' design. Besides that though, the only real upgrade over the XZ1 compact that matters to me would be the HDR screen, and i can live without that.

  • no radio + no 3.5 jack + no infrared = bye bye sony

  • Still has SD card slot and still has small height (135mm) don't care too much it is a little thicker. Better a little thicker than a long thinner body where you need two hands to reach all areas of the screen. Phones are too big these days. This is the limit of how big I want a phone to be!

  • Still compact??? 🤣🤣🤣 12 mm thickness. Nice joke

  • thickness 12.1???????? 8to9 its better

  • I had z3c, z5c and now xz1c, but that is it! Xz2c is so ugly, i really liked sony not following everyone else trends with stupid curves and now this. Also 2 things that i really liked about sony phones were headphone jack and side mounted fingerprint scanner which now are gone! Well, my next phone will be samsung it seems!

  • I am with my 92 kilos are more compact than this phone :-)

  • From when a 5 inch screen is considered as compact? Sony WTF? Soon they will make size of Mi Max and call it compact :-)

  • It is a compact 5 inch phone... Great job sony!

  • 65mm wide, 1080p+ screen, dual SIM, top end SoC. Love the specs. Would've bought on launch day if it weren't so aesthetically challenged, and no power button FPS.

  • sony, I tell u what, u make it xz1 compact with 64gb internal, and radio, and maybe if u can make it 4.7 or 4.8 inches screen and 3200mah battery ,these are things that I expect from xz1 compact. now come the xz2 compact dissapointment after dissapontment. RIP SONY

  • I simply love the look, form-factor and size of the new compact ... this one has a big chance to become my next phone. After owning Z1C, Z3C and Z5C, now, with a LG G6 in hand, I really really look forward to the XZ2C ... I really do not mind the thickness at all (I actually welcome the overall ergonomics).

  • I agree with u, I actually okay with front design, but the rear design, with curved at the back, its so ugly, and no headphone jack, plus the thickness, th only good thing sony upgrade to 64gb internal and the sd 645 sony should maintain the xz1 compact size and jus make it bigger screen, that wud be perfect

  • Love the front design but not the camera position. It would've been nice if it's place on the side instead in the middle

  • not a compact at all i may aswel stick to my iphone se mind you iphone is going to be releasing another compact this year. disgusting from sony people this is not a compact at all we was looking for 4.6 inch screen or below. and everybody else was too i aint the only one!!!

  • This is of course a compact phone by height as it is 3.4mm shorter than iphone 7/8 and by width as it is 2.3mm narrower than iphone 7/8. But the problem is the thickness... Whopping 12.1mm.... If sony kept it below 10mm and gave it a headphone jack, that would be a perfect compact smartphone. Every time sony mess up something... I was so eagerly waiting for this compact😑

  • 12.1mm Thicker than 6 year old xperia acro s.. wut???

  • Dimensions are awesome, little bit thick but it's ok with 5 inches screen.

  • It is a little bit odd, when they call 5.0 screen 'compact'. Plenty of above 5'' phones on market, but very limited offer bellow though.

  • This would have been the xperia line's saving grace if it were an actual compact. Sony trying to fool even its loyal fans. Disgraceful. No wonder they continue to become irrelevant and chinese phones are stepping all over them now.

  • disgusting i certainly wont be buying this what f this is no compact 5 inch isnt compact what the hell sony you f up. loosing customers not that isnt a compact a compact is below 4.6 inch how stupid of sony f everything up!!!!!!!! very upset

  • Is the screen resolution correct?

  • 12 mm thickness :)

  • 12.1mm seriously Sony???

  • 12 mm really ?

  • Sony, All we wanted(a few years ago) was a Z6 compact. That's all. A combination between Z3 compact and Z5 compact design wise, no back glass, so no worries there. A phone that does not heat up very easy.(not the deal breaker there, but still)... A phone of which front panel(LCD screen) won't come off by itself. A free waterproof USB port, no easy-damageable flap to cover it, no magnetic charger needed. Better software, or whatever is needed for that very high tech camera to take better photos than a 8MP cheap model. Good battery life, just like there already has been. Same phone size, because that's why we want this phone: the only one that is small and has good specs. NO we were not craving for another aspect ratio or bigger screen, or dual sim or vibrators for when watching a movie. Just a simple phone, simple design, good battery life and build quality. And, just as nobody was expecting back then, we are praying for the headphone jack. Me, myself, I do not use the headphone jack that much, but taking it off or no good reason is not gonna do too much good or you taking in consideration your "walkman" fans. Me, as a Z3 compact owner, waiting patiently for a good upgrade from you guys, I am more and more disappointed. p.s. waterproofing of course. :)

  • If they reduced the bezels they could have reduced the size from 129 of XZ1 compact they could have gone to 125 (maybe). The thickness is too much in my opinion. The screen size was 4.6 AND IT WAS AMAZING. The compact line is supposed to be direct opponent of the small iPhones (5s, SE) not the middle one (7, 8). Sony I am a huge fan but seriously i expected better strategy, quality and design. It feels like seeing one of those crappy Samsung ****phones. Technology packed awesome as always.

  • If sony remove the bezel of Z5 series and make the back material as aluminum, this will be great. Now XZ2 design feels me dissapointed to sony.

  • Still waiting on something big to come out. I'll wait with my good ol' xperia z3 compact for a bit longer. )

  • 5.0", 18:9 Full HD+ (1080 x 2160) HDR display5 TRILUMINOS™ Display for mobile.

  • 5 mpx front camera,with 2/2. Nope.

  • I think Sony mobile just reach that point. RIP

  • "When you reduce the size vertically" Dude, what have you been smoking, the predecessor XZ1 Compact was 129mm vertical height * 9.3mm depth. Now the xz2c succesor is 135mm * 12.1mm

  • 168 gram and 12.1 mm of thickness for compact device..? Do they completely lost their mind..? And no 3.5 mm... Not to say that both models looks like nothing but soap bar. Looks like Sony decided to go out of smartphone business by mid of the next year. I said it about HTC U series, now I'm saying the same thing about XZ2, XZ2 Compact: people responsible for designing and accepting both of these models to production must be immediately fired before they decisions they make bring company to no return point.

  • who made just a concept of 12 mm thickness with compact phone 168 mm and 12 mm thickness except it aal is well but weight and thickness no way sony i think i have to go another brand

  • Great, one less option for me. I was waiting for a better XZ1 Compact because i decided to go back to Android from my ***** iPhone, but i guess i will be sticking with the small iPhone SE of mine.

  • looks ugly

  • When you reduce the size vertically somewhere it's going to expand naturally

  • Finally? :-)) I'm writing from a Z3 compact. Wasn't this a very good phone back in the days, considering it's size?

  • 12mm wtf ?

  • 12mm? 168g? Are you serious, Sony? Really waited for xz2 compact to upgrade my current z5 compact. But probably it was my last sony smartphone. Even s8/s9 a few mm larger, but 5.8inch-display, much thinner and even lighter. Will think about them...

  • seriously sony...12mm???? RIP u are not gonna sell a single piece...dommage

  • Its not a mobile phone, It's kind a brick.

  • Too thick. Sick. Design. How this company still surviving is crazy.

  • 168g, 12.1mm. compact? wtf sony

  • Too Big for compact TOO BIG

  • Stupid sony. Im waiting your 24mm thickness phone. (im using Sony X Performance, not bad phone, but, want to change Xiaomi redmi note 5 pro bigger screen and compact size 18:9)

  • Sony is mad if they think they are gonna sell just a single device

  • no matter what happens, ppl will always talk shit. Even I'm not happy with the thickness but at least now we have a compact phone that is good on specs. I'll take a little bulk in thickness.

  • It's too big!!!!!!! I was hoping for a 4,6 " screen bezeless phone, and they came with this brick. RIP compact android phones .

  • Was going to say same thing!

  • 12.1mm?? Is it 2009 again?
