LG Optimus S - User Reviews

  • GSMArena team, I have this phone and it runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Please add that this phone upgrades to Gingerbread!

  • no. not gsm

  • Truly a nightmare! Pitiful performance combined with a battery that will last 12 hours **if I never ever touch it after disconnecting from the charger.** If I use it for 10-15 minutes I can expect 5 to 10% of the battery to drain in that period of time. God help you if you (try to) open a browser... Terrible screen quality that's completely illegible when there's any sort of bright lighting. Want to know what the camera is like? Take a disposable film camera and blow your nose on the lens. Perfect simulation.

  • Can I use SIM card on that phone???

  • It is definitely not a beast.

  • You should be able to just call the company (T-Mobile) and get an unlock code. People did it all the time when I worked for AT&T....

  • My phone is LG optimus V (locked with Virgin mobile) and i'm from indonesia,my phone can be unlocked? So i can use another provider in indonesia.

  • ETA: Performance wrt audio streaming has improved significantly since I posted the above comments. There may have been infrastructure improvements in my area.

  • It has a YouTube app because that's the only way you can play them, as opposed to doing it through the web browser which it will not do. IIRC it plays only those YouTube videos for which HTML5 playback was specified when they were posted. That said, within the device's constraints there are a ton of videos out there you can play through the app. But you don't want to try hour long documentaries or TV episodes.

  • I posted here as "Anonymous" about a year ago, and now I've had more experience with the phone. It boils down to this--if you get this phone, you need to root it so you can eliminate the bloatware. Rooting also allows you to move more apps to the SD card--which brings me to my second point--you'll probably need to upgrade the SD card. The SD card mine came with was only 2GB and that is just not enough.

  • basically, that it is CDMA, may mean you can use it on PagePlus (verizon) :-P

  • Lol its a CDMA Phone, no sim :P

  • can we change it to GSM?

  • is it have sim slot? can't we change it to GSM? please help me//

  • how to inseret sim in lg vm670??

  • What! 2GB? i only got ~100Mb!(after os stuff) i got ripped off...

  • It has only 165MB of internal storage. Mine (all I think) also come with a 2GB SD card, which I have upgraded. The small amount of internal memory does make you app juggle a lot, but it is a good starter smartphone, especially now that they have been upgraded to froyo. I just wish cyanogen mod had an official port, then I might even consider rooting it.

  • it's only 110-120USD in Indo

  • I love this phone, God let my own arrive safety!

  • Only 2GB internal memory and lots of apps that can't be moved to the SD card. UGH!!!

  • I got an LG Optimus S smartphone for a birthday present and I've had the phone for almost 3 months and its a really cool phone.

  • This phone is amazing, right now i have the blackberry curve 8900 and i've been complaining to my dad that I need a new one. I told him about the features of this phone. And me and my sister think that this phone is............. BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think this fone was an excellent upgrade from my sanyo fone i like it a lot better considering i havent had a touch screen so this fone is better than nothing

  • This phone is rather sluggish & freezes up a lot. I've had it in for tech support numerous times all of which required hard resets. I would not recommend this phone unless you plan on spending time at the repair shops or on the phone getting issues fixed

  • Rather a bummer. The OS supports lots of available apps, including IHeartRadio and TuneIn, which were very important to me because I like to stream radio--but I like real radio from actual brick-and-mortar radio stations, not "genre" internet "stations". Many of these stations have their own Android apps available for download. Almost none of this was available for my HTC Pure with the WinMo 5.6 OS, although I was able to find some third-party apps and other workarounds that enabled me to stream a few stations. Within these constraints, the Windows phone never let me down. If my signal was good, it would stream smoothly, and I still use it with my home WLAN for that reason. On the other hand, either the LG Optimus or the Android apps, or both have a serious problem. I can't stream anything for more than a few minutes before the stream has to be rebuffered. Neither does it help much to use my WLAN, which I can only do at home anyway. It can't be the processor; the new phone's processor is slightly faster than the old one. I wish I knew what it was.

  • no flash support as current standing for adobe flash player 10.3 is a min processor of 800Mhz. next one might be higher.

  • can somebody tell me the price(php)???

  • Had some problem but this useful tip helped.

  • froyo and no flash 10 support@? You really can't complain about a free android phone especially one that's so cute! Other than the no adobe flash player 10 support, my other complaint is the internal storage. Even though you can add a bigger sd card you still need that internal storage. Even though the camera is only 3mpx it wouldn't be so bad if it had a flash (if you can figure out the right setting it's not as bad as you would think when you think of a 3mpx camera.) As far as the battery goes if you don't use it too much and use an app killer it lasts a while but if you're using it alot keep a car charger and extra sync cables (5pin MICRO usb cable- they actually have these at the dollar tree!) so you can plug it into a usb jack from any convenient electronic (cable/satellite box, wii/xbox/ps3 game systems, of course computers, etc. I LOVE ANDROID!!!!!!

  • WONT break i droped my LG on cement and no cracks but some times the back will get a scrach but thats it

  • WONT break i droped my LG on cement and no cracks but some times the back will get a scrach but thats it

  • only problem i have is the battery life

  • no gprs doest that mean that i cant use d mobile net which cums with d sim u knw right what i am talking abt

  • The phone is very well built, it does not feel like a toy like some smart phones. (Palm Pre, I'm looking at you) the battery life is what you expect in a mid-level smartphone (one day standby, few hours of talking, couple hours of app use, pretty standard. Plug the thing in when you go to bed, and you will be fine). Oh, and the battery is replaceable... unlike some phones by companies in Coopertino. It could be a little snappier, and it would be nice to have a later version of Android... but for the price you cannot complain (currently free with contract).

  • Flash is available through 3rd party browsers. Good ones are Miren Browser, and Boat Browser Mini for android.

  • If can't play you tube videos then y they are giving Youtube Application??? :-) Read the features first. It plays youtube videos with charm.

  • Just want to ask you guys..the Optimus S doesnt have a flash..so this means it cant play youtube video right?

  • LG is updating the SW with new Android Gingerbread (2.3) instead Froyo (2.2). I think that in a few days will be possible to uptade it through LG's website.

  • Its nothing about 3.2

  • this is a wonderful handset but it lacks one thing. the camera doesn't have a flash so you can't take pictures in the dark. the camera is excellent in daylight though. for anyone who likes good music, just install PowerAMP player on it and tell me the difference

  • Rev A, better latency. Rev A is capable of maintaining VOIP based calls in good conditions, Rev 0 is not.

  • I'm using this phone now and I love ut But its cdma evdo rev A, not rev 0. Which is better

  • What's with the 3.15 Mp camera?

  • This phone is baddd I love it it have all the features u need in a phone

  • i am serprie to listned lg anounesed 1500 mah battery 3.15camera thank god for cdma phone (hor hor mahadev nepalese peopele buy this phone)jay shiva shankar

  • this phone is awsome i hpe m dad gets that for me

  • Of course this phone doesnt have EDGE. Its a CDMA phone. They don't utilize EDGE Tech. They implement EV-DO

  • no edge no shit man this phone is for sprint! GSM ARENA HAS THERE FACT INCORRECT!!! i work for LG This is for sprint get it straight!

  • no edge/gprs??

  • Fino ..
