  • you can convert your 3g phone to 4g. it's possible... to convert you have to first find an old keypad phone which can run Java application (if possible find out nokia N series phone) Now go to settings in that phone and start scrolling menus without pressing keypad...(touch the screen for scroll) if screen responses and you can operate that phone without keypad then extract the chipsets of that phone and replace with your smartphone.

  • Yes its a very decent phone. It worked well even after several time fall and very rough handling. It worked for me from Sept 2014 to Dec 2017, Though display was good.. but battery became issue after 3.5 years of good working

  • I'm posting to reconfirm that Redmi 1S actually supports 64GB external class 10 SD card. Just make sure the card is successfully FAT32 formatted and it can be recognized by the phone. As Win7 can't do the FAT32 trick, try some freeware.

  • Jio sim will work with some tweaks in software. Few Vendors know how to do it ( if you pay them). Yet it will still not give you full advantage of 4g. Hence no point in spending time and money. Don't bet more on Redmi 1s. It has reached the end of its life cycle. Time to move to a new phone with 4g Volte capabilities. Xiaomi has many budget phone offering which are Volte capable.

  • Lol actually you can transfer the photos to your sdcard without using pc. You can even change the settings of the storage so when you take a picture it automatically saves to your sdcard. You didn't even try.

  • Same thing here regarding the turning off by itself and getting hot issue. By the time I was able to switch it on, the battery would have drained already. Until now, I still don't get why? It even got stuck at fastboot mode until 0% once and the fact that the battery is removable really saved the day. I got myself a 6s plus as my main phone now to compensate lol. The MI user interface is great though.

  • Only 8 GB internal storage! Wake up people. Absolutely not worth the money. The apps can't be transferred to the external storage. If you want extra storage you need to buy it from the makers. You will run out of space once you take photos and install a handfull of apps. Then you'll regret having bought this device. Though you have 64gb external memory, sometimes you can't even transfer the photos by copying or cutting it. So you are stuck with the photos in the internal memory. The only way to transfer it - is to connect it with the PC. Like it was done in the 'good old days.' What's the point in having a 64gb card when you can;t transfer the files internally?! This is the major drawback. So if you are a 'appy' person, who also indulges in a lot of selfies and groupies, you'd soon get frustrated with this ridiculously outdated device and its 8gb storage option. (BTW forget about gaming.)

  • Ok,i'm from indonesia and I have this phone for 1.5 years and I got some point on this phone : 1. This phone's battery life is respectable although it is only 2000mAh. I always use this phone but not for gaming except round tofu (you could download it at the play store). And I use my iPad for gaming,but this phone should not lag if you do not play heavy games like asphalt and be sure to clean your RAM 2. Performance maybe is at "so so" category but it's not awful (the chipset is snapdragon 400,but it is great enough for SD400) and not to laggy for middle graphics game like Angry Birds. But my AnTuTu result is a bit of contradiction because the result at gsmarena is around 19.000 but mine is 20.500 cause I usually flash my rom per 1 month. It is great though for an entry class smartphone 3. Camera is awesome for this grade of phone,fast autofocus, fast shutterspeed, but it will become a bit stuttering when you use HDR mode,the selfies are a bit disappointing though I don't like to selfie with this phone. 4. 720p resolution is crisp,but the brightness is bad 5. Maybe this phone is to thick for 2000mAh phone,and it is not eye-catching,but good colours you got there xiaomi! . This is a great phone for this range of price,but I really want to upgrade to LG G3 Cat.6 because I notice that some good features and good games isn't available at iPad (my iPad is iOS 8.3) and I need a good camera smartphone because I like to use the cam for posting at my Instagram and I want to start a YouTube channel with my friends for gaming tricks!

  • Been using this phone for more than a year. Heating issue has been solved by updates. Still very smooth. Dropped this several times and it's still working. Can't complain about the camera, picture quality is as good as those of the more expensive brands. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

  • Maybe your handset has some problem. I have 4nos of Redmi 1s in family and none have problem of any heating. But use genuine xiaomi charger only. If you go other than that, you will have problems of slow charging, rapid battery drain, heating etc.

  • Redmi 1S is a great smartphone-a classic.And good considering the times in which it was launched. I have been using it for the past 2 years. But have faced some other issues: 1) No genuine battery available online. BM 41 -the ones available in Flipkart and others dont match up to the quality of the original one. And even Redmi India isnt bothered to sell them online. 2) MIUI 7 is good but would be best in a 3GB Ram model...but in 1GB ram mode as this , a bit problematic after u have installed around 20 apps over the ones that come with android. 3) Heating issue is there.

  • No. It doesn't have any heating issues. It has been my family phone for past two years.I gave up in favour of Moto G turbo. Absolutely no problems and things worked butter smooth. Only if you have covered your phone with safety covers/skins OR if you are using for heavy duty applications like graphics intense games', it will warm up.

  • Well, Drake... it is always good to make a backup... And format everytime after updating phone... As it makes the phone to clear all the cache files of the old rom... And, It's always asked to update using fastboot method.... But bro, it's data consuming as for every update, you have to download up to 800 MB files.... If you are using unlimited data pack.... Then, I will suggest to use fastboot method to update to each time

  • Yes, it is all right to delete the updated rom.... No need to keep it.... Well, Till date I updated twice the Rom using OTA method as I am fan of updating using Fastboot method... but in both the conditions the update file automatically deleted after update..... So, delete the updated rom, they are of no use anymore..

  • Well, For all guys suffering from slow charging issue.... Check for different charger..... If it charges fairly fine, then charger was the culprit... Then, change the data cable of original charger...... In mine case the data cable is the culprit, Now the cable is not working at all..... Now mine phone is all fine with original charger, Buy a good quality data cable as it helps in reducing charging time( personal experience) Used two different cables and got different charging speeds too

Sometimes you might not be able to see the imei no. through codes *#06#, it's just software issue..... Well the problems of music stopping, etc. are just the failure or we call it bugs in the previous versions of miui Latest miui has no such bugs........ Now, I am going to help you how to resolve this issue..... Well keep your phone charged above 75 % (recommended as usual) Use Windows 7 pc only.... Works smooth with that no compatibility issue and nothing more to dig in there First of all download MI Flash tool, link below Then, fastboot rom For Redmi 1s - Extract the file..... Use 7 zip(free and supports all files) Now Install MI pc suite After, installation open it as administrator,(although itself opens in that mode) Then, switch off the phone.... Press power and volume down button together to reach Fastboot mode you can see a MI bunny sitting and trying to fix his robot Then, plug in the phone.... Then, click on refresh icon on MI Pc suite... You will be able to see your phone listed... Near to it you can see that its asking for the files Browse there and select the folder of extracted files The final extracted folder will be in the name of something as, armani_global_images_...............   • I have been using this phone from Nov'14. I really like the build quality of the phone. I have owned Huawei U8800 pro, Lenovo P770 previously. Redmi 1s is the only phone I did not take to a service center for issues. Recently I bought Meizu M2, but unfortunately the glass over the screen broke in a fall. Now again using my Redmi after a gap of 20 days. After MIUI 7 update its even better. There is occasional lag in some apps, but it is not to a disturbing level. I really appreciate xiaomi as they just did not neglect the old devices for updates. Even if I had to take it to a service center for some issue, their service centers are better than other brands as they have many exclusive service centers. For the price I paid I couldn't have had better phone.

  • This mobile is very good in hardware but in the case of softwares and updates it sucks.so those who are worried about heating issue,poor ram management lags etc i am recommending custom roms like "mokee" or "resurrection remix".they are running on latest os lollipop 5.1 and are getting weekly and monthly updates.i know its difficult to change from miui because of its unique features like inbuilt call recording and others but am telling u guys you wont regret.so google the above custom roms and select one according to your need.good luck.

  • Guys do not buy this phone, made mistake going by cheap rates, the phone just stopped working within 6 months time, bought through flipkart in chennai they have only very few service centres, just imagine in chennai only 3 and so i just gave for checking near a mobile service centre near by and he checked in front of me and said the board is gone and you have to go to MI service centre, went there and they simply rejected taking for warranty though its just six months. Cheap dirty tricks in the name of warranty and just say all reasons and reject it. Just imagine the phone is not worth going on for 6 months even. Its better to buy a better branded and costly mobile rather than changing your mobile every 6 months. Thought xiomi is a good product and got cheated. Please reconsider your decision before buying xiomi phones.   • I am using Redmi 1s Sinse last 5 months. It is good phone. Worth for money. It has some drawbacks but you can't get more than this at 6k. Over all it is a nice phone having greatest features comparing to Samsung and Sony's 20,000 30,000 mobiles. Honestly the cameras of this phone won't disappoint you. I loved this phone. It phone has drawbacks like heating issue, low battery back up but it can be solved after update. I give 5 stars out of 5. but service center should be increased..

  • Without proper authorized service center back-up, Xiaomi's offerings in the Indian market are hopeless! I have an MI3. The screen cracked. Once the phone went into repair, it has been going to the service center every fortnight! I bought a Redmi 1S for back-up. Even that developed some problem in the mother-board. Now I alternate between both instruments - one of them is always at the Service Center at any given point of time. Spares are not readily available, there are no trained technicians who can give proper guidance, & the online helpline of Xiaomi is helpless - they only give the addresses of their authorized service centers - nothing else. Xiaomi's after-sales service is a bigg bigg disappointment. They can never hope to capture the Indian market with such pathetic service.

  • I purchased xiaomi Redmi note 4 months back with airtel sim. initially iwas happy with phone, but since i travel betwen thane to new bomaby and to kalyanside the network become zero. if i am in bombay netwrk is ok the moment i cross thane automaticaly network goes off. even if i try manual network setting for two seconds i gets connect then again its off. i have other handset of samsung with same service provider but have absolutely no such issue unless i travel out of state and in that case it automaticaly get connect to the available network.   • When reading a user review for a phone you're eyeing, it's often easy to put down any negative points raised as flukes or customer misuse. After all, the phone looks great on paper, and even greater to your wallet, but speaking as someone who repairs phones, who knows what they should and should NOT do, I've come to the conclusion that this phone is a big fat disappointment. The MIUI is a half-baked poor skin of Android, sure it has a couple useful features, but it also frequently crashes and is incredibly laggy. It's only really usable on a fresh install whilst clearing the RAM every 5 minutes. Speaking of clearing the RAM, this phone's so slow that it actually lags, sometimes by as much as 7 seconds when I hold down the home button for the task manager. Unlike normal android, the task manager is app icons only, you do not get thumbnails of the application's current activities, which I think should help make it snappier by cutting out the pretty pictures, but it doesn't. RAM needs to be cleared constantly, I had the browser open and music playing and the phone reported a mere 56MB of RAM available. I didn't even have that many tabs. The poor RAM management was not fixed by updates from Xiaomi and continues to be a problem, so much so that it causes system instability multiple times daily. Somehow they managed to make a Snapdragon 400 phone run worse than the HTC Wildfire, to which at least the HTC Wildfire, an aged, single core 0.5GHz disaster was usable, and the same can't be said for this phone. The application instability is unbearable, updates to apps and to the phone itself have not fixed several key problems, like how every time I try to navigate with Google Maps, the app crashes instantly. The only app that hasn't crashed yet is the Calculator, even system utilities like the Settings page have crashed multiple times. The phone's battery calibration is also dreadful, with the OS reporting an alleged 20% drop in 40 seconds of being turned on. I charge the phone every day, sometimes twice and yet I use it sparingly, mostly as an MP3 player, to which even that function has crashed many times. The only saving grace for this abomination is the camera, since having this phone 3 months ago the touchscreen no longer works properly, reception is spotty whilst my backup phone has a strong signal, and sometimes this phone has even failed to charge. Yes, you heard right, this phone refused to charge for 3 days, and not just once either. Worse yet, one time I plugged in the charger when the phone was off, and it tried to turn on, but then would shut down immediately, turn back on, and repeat this infinitely until I took the battery out and inserted it simultaneously with the charger cable. Speaking of the charger cable, it fell apart, so that was another thing to replace. In fact even the charger fell apart, the casing came off the Xiaomi brand charger, and when trying to unplug it at night, unable to see what I was doing, I touched the exposed circuitry of the charger. 240V ran through my hand because of their shoddy craftsmanship. This phone is unbelievably poor. Though I'm not biased and I will say that the camera is excellent, also the Xiaomi Piston 2 earphones are hard-wearing and sound fantastic. So yeah, to summarise, perhaps find a different phone, personally I recommend the Xperia ZR, available online for a similar price, yet from a global trusted brand with international support, twice the RAM, a better camera and a faster processor, all in a slightly smaller waterproof package. However, if you're looking for Xiaomi tech, get the Piston 2 earphones and nothing else. Even the standard Youth earphones are terrible, I gave them still in the packaging to my housemate, and as he put them in his ears the drivers came apart from their solder pads, they literally split in two. I hoped my phone was a dud, but I found people with similar problems. And having a Chinese-brand phone in England certainly hasn't helped with the returns process. Please people, stay away. Xperia ZR, Meizu M1 Note, Cubot S222, Any of these will do better job.

  • Firstly, make sure your phn have root access.Check it by root checker app from play store or any .apk fie. Download cm12 file and Gapps file (zip) for redmi 1s from miui forum and place it to sd card. Go to twrp recovery mode(vol up +power key) and hit back up and restore and then back up. Go back after backing up and hit wipe>advanced>mark data, cache, system and dalvik cache>hit flash. Now go back to istall>install from sd card>hit cm12 zip. and hit flash. Now go back to install and flash Gapps same way Go back and hit reboot>system That's it.

  • Hello friends! I need your kind help. I installed cm11 on my redmi 1s. There was some problem with ringtone and sound so i updated to cm12. Later againg i found 12.1 update and downloaded it During installation the phone stuck into cm logo for long time and did not not launch. Then I decided to restore previous back up. Removed the battery and rebooted to recovery mode. But alas! Somehow my cwm recovery turned into cyanogen recovery. Cyanogen recovery doesn't have any back up option even. However, when I tried to 'Apply update' from sdcard to my earlier back up, it failed showing ''Signature verification failed''. I tried to flash a new ROM but constantly failing. Now my phn also not booting to system as i wiped all data and factory rest before flashing the new ROM. So my phn seems dead with cyanogen recovery. Please help. I went to MI care Center in Coimbatore,India. I'm asking for replacing the front-glass of my Redmi 1s. They told me that they cannot provide the front-glass but with display and it costs around Rs.4300. So,this replacement comes around 72% of the phone's original cost of Rs.6000. So, as a pathetic customer I consider myself "Ok.This Xiaomi product also a use and throw phone like other Chinese phones". I had spent Rs.6000 and MI cover for Rs.375 So I've to use it with broken glass and heart. I purchased it through flipkart.com sold by WS Retail. They have no responsibility of after sales. Bye !!!
