ZTE Open C - User Reviews

  • Its a low end device, so what do you expect in it guys?

  • Had it since it launched on eBay. Software support/Firefox OS updates are great. Flawless. Because they just do not exist. The phone is slow, screen is bad in sunlight, camera is awful, but... I can send a text, email, access Facebook, talk, even its GPS is fine. All in all, that's exactly what I need and it did not cost me an arm and a leg. Since it's ugly as fu*&, nobody will ever be tempted to rob me. I even dropped it a few times by mistake, did not break, still works fine. I'll keep it around until it disintegrates.

  • This phone was a trainwreck, especially for 2014. It would have been just as bad in 2009. It was slow, camera was terrible, had almost no app support and the display looked very poor.

  • its not good..... watsapp doesnt work..... its slow.......

  • NICE

  • this solves the issues and puts your zte onto android

  • Its an absolutely wonderful device based on its price tag. Well there are some issues regarding the OS. May be Flashing it with the latest build may resolve it.

  • Got mine back in May. Had a few issues where the phone would not charge, no idea about the cause, they just appeared randomly and the phone would eventually charge after a few tries. Other than that, everything works fine. A good deal given the price, especially since now it's some 40-50% cheaper than it was when I got it. P.S. I know, camera is shitty, sound quality could have been better, build feels flimsy... but let's keep one thing in mind - this is a CHEAP 3G PHONE THAT WORKS. Get it if you need a 3G phone with WiFi and GPS and you will get what you want, but if you're looking for a full featured smart experience and premium build quality... keep looking.

  • This phone uses Standard SIM Size not Micro SIM. Reference from Australian model.

  • does the 1400 mAh battery is enough for last at least a day with a standart use ?

  • Just 5 days with it and 1/3 of the screen do not respond, I have already try resetting it. I don't recommend this phone if you can get another

  • Hey man, i've got kitkat on my open c, struggling to root it and get google play store, could you help?, Really struggling to find any info anywhere. Cheers

  • Phone is very nice internet is very fast can someone tell me how to install viber app for voice calling .I could not find viber app on Firefox AppStore marketplace

  • Ригх&;#1090; хере:

  • Got it last week and in my opinion Firefox OS is the next big thing.

  • hey i wanna do a dual boot too root this phone so i can save apps on my 32GB SD card but i keep turing up short. Can u tell me where to look to get some info on how to get the requisite files to do dual boot and root?

  • Yes its a smart phone

  • Where can I go to download apps for the ZTE open C phone?

  • to reset phone have handset off then press the on button and volume up at the same time and you wsill see reset page

  • can i use whatsapp in it

  • Loving my new ZTE Open C :) It's not the fastest, biggest, fanciest phone ever - not by a long shot. But I'm loving it. I'm enjoying the FirefoxOS marketplace that isn't controlled by Google, Apple or Microsoft. It all feels free-er and more open than any other phone. A lot of people complain (or will do) that "there's no angry birds/temple run/ etc" but i think they miss the point. This is a budget phone, but you can still browse website, look at emails, (sadly you can still) look at Facebook but nothing's perfect ;) FirefoxOS Still has a little way to go but its nice and easy to use and still very resposive on this slower phone. Overall: 9/10

  • Good smartphone for low price. I have written a thread about rooting the phone on xda.

  • Hello, I have bought the ZTE OPEN C from eBay Germany and I have flashed the android STOCK ROM which has no google apps, that fine with me. Now I need to swift some apps at my 32 GB SD and this is only possible when the phone is rooted. So, my question is how can I just root the phones stock rom android and keep the Stock rom android? Thx in advance. I am not an expert.

  • Bought phone in UK, email worked OK, now back in Oz cannot get it to update my emails. Keeps saying not connected to server. Passwordcorect ands can get internet OK. Any suggestions?

  • how? please help. i have been trying for hours to run the open c upgrade tool, it just sits there saying searching. wont find the device. I really need android on this phone, but dont klnow how to do it, please could you give me a step by step begginers guide??? please??

  • got this phone firefox os is not good but android is great for £40 it is good value

  • could you explain how this is particularly done ?

  • The Firefox O/S is impressive, and should improve with new releases. The Android Kitkat is a little disappointing in that it does not come with Google play store. I hope that ZTE will produce an update with G-apps installed (even if this is not free, because Google expect a payment)

  • vampirefo: How exactly did you set up dualboot on the Open C? I also have the phone, and while Firefox OS 1.3 runs quite well, I'm missing a number of android apps. I've only managed to install either FirefoxOS OR Android, not both with a choice at boot time, which I#d love to do. Thanks & regards, -jc

  • I have ordered this on everbuying.com as the flame phone was already sold out, i am really excited with firefox os, all open-sourced mobile OS, not controlled by any vendor nor bastardized by google. Anything to promote firefox OS IS A WIN! i am winning to have this phone along side my iPhone, I have android ulephone p6, but its laden with google tracking software. This will serve ax my mobile wifi hotspot and dev phone as well!

  • I like the phone, runs well, I rooted phone, installed firefox update from zte website, then install Android 4.4 on sdcard, setup dual boot with firefox, built CWM recovery. This phone uses swap and well as ram, If it didn't I would have setup swap myself, firefox market lacks apps, very few but hey this is early development for them. Anyway with android setup on sdcard, I can just boot into android to use apps I want, note you need to root the android 4.4 and install gapps as it doesn't have gapps, but that's not a problem. Over all for the price this phone is great, dual core running dual OS, not bad at all.

  • i saw on ebay 90$ with free shiping AND u can choose firefox os 1.3 or android 4.4.2,im not joking go check it

  • Believe me that 256MB of RAM is NOT enough for FirefoxOS. I had to enable swap file on my Alcatel Fire to handle scenario with buying on-line train ticket with bank account validation code delivered by SMS. I would love to check device with 512MB of RAM. From my experience for everyday use it is possible to comfortable live with 256MB of RAM with zRAM enabled even on single core device (like Alcatel Fire or ZTE Open) but I think that Dual Core device will be much much better solution for 256MB amount of RAM. On such device as ZTE Open C is with 512MB of RAM and Dual Core CPU when zRAM is enabled effectively you have about 1-1,2GB of RAM without performance impact as it is on single core device like mine one.

  • Now it's available to UK (and Ireland too I guess) customers through the Ebay UK website for £70 or 92 to Ireland. That would be a decent smartphone cheaper than my current Nokia Asha 300 which I last got for about 110 here. Look forward to more Firefox OS devices being available to buy unlocked in Ireland in the future!

  • Or you know... Feature phone?

  • Minimum required RAM for Firefox OS is 256 MB. So 512 MB is more than minimum required RAM. I am using Geekpsphone Keon with 512 MB of RAM and never faced any memory related issue.

  • After spending several months with the original ZTE Open, I purchased a ZTE Open C (my son now has my original Open). Wow, what a difference! Significant improvement in screen quality, touch responsiveness, speed, and even the camera quality. No, it's still not going to have the finesse and wow factor of a top-end Galaxy or iPhone, but if you're looking for an amazing price/performance ratio, this is it. No contract, just $99 for an unlocked phone that works on the GSM networks. I'm really sold. Man, this reads like a paid advertisement. Sorry. I'm just delighted to have such a good smart phone on the cheap. Does everything I need it to and is cheap enough to qualify as disposable.

  • I think Firefox OS didnt really need much RAM

  • Dual core devices are still fine, its the ram that hurts this one.

  • this is very good phone i would like to have one myself.

  • windows explorer(file manager) come with wp8.1

  • As you can see the Alcatel Fire S sports a 1.2GHz Quad-Core processor, and has 8MP camera. That's a nice mid-end device. Dual-core devices in my opinion are now low-end, excluding the iPhone's and devices like Motorola Moto X which sport a dual-core CPU but with a newer architecture and faster cores. And Firefox OS isn't as full of stuff like Android or Windows Phone, but retains the stability and clean bloatware-free UI like iOS, but not as advanced as the same. But still there is future for the Firefox OS since companies like Alcatel, ZTE and LG have adopted it! The OS will definitely get more market share in the upcoming years!

  • Bored with Android. Hate windows because it has no windowsexplorer. Apple way too expensive. Hope Firefox or Ubuntu is bug free and developers back it. I'll buy 1 in future. (just my opinion)

  • Not worth it. Not even worth 50$ let alone 100$. You can get a used nexus with twice the specs for 50$ on ebay.

  • I wish we could see some more high end specs for the Firfox OS phones. :D I am very curious about these guys!
