Been thinking about an upgrade on the 'Droid version, will it slow down the phone (even further)? What version do you suggest? P.S. - Considering it's a phone I've owned for almost 3 years now, I love it! Have had it for 6 months does everything other phones do with a smaller screen and at a slower pace "racer" is a bit of an exaggeration. 1 st phone was dreadful but got a replacement phone and all is good since. what do you expect for the price could buy 15 of these for one iphone. it aint 15 times worse

That's the WORST android cellphone EVER... :( I Just feel like I throw my money away... It's screen is RESISTIVE touch (totally crap), it's internal memory is only 200mb wich means about 5 or 6 apps installed (and it's android 2.1 baby, so, no app to sd card).... :(

I got this phone simply because my old phone broke and I needed a cheap android phone. It was fine and worked quite well (minus the battery life was horrible but I didn't mind that). However after the first 3 or 4 days the signal kept dropping on the phone for no reason, so I got it changed for a new one. However the new one I had bigger problems with. Every few hours I'd lock my phone and wouldn't be able to unlock it, I couldn't even turn the power on or off and the only way to fix it was to take the back off, battery out and put it back in then it would work fine for the next few hours. Because of the faults I had with the two phones and the problem with battery life I wouldn't touch this make again.

The ZTE Racer was a good budget Android phone that I picked up online locked to the 3 UK network for £55. I used a code generator online to unlock my ZTE Racer for absolutely nothing, as I am on the giffgaff network. The screen resolution is 320x240, which is common in budget smartphones, so it doesn't have the most amazing quality, as it is a TFT screen, but the colours seems bright enough even though there's only 256,000 of them on this phone and Icons/wallpapers aren't too pixelated. The screen is also resistive, so you will have to press down a bit harder to get it to respond. It being resistive also means there's no multitouch, but you get a great deal for the price. The Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset teamed with the 600mhz ARM v6 revision 5 processor and Adreno 200 GPU (not ARM 11 as shown in specs) provide a stable base for a budget 2.1 Eclair device, and cam run some popular games, including Angry Birds, Dragon Fly, Cut the Rope, Doodle Jump, Ceramic Destroyer, Paper Toss and more! The 256MB of RAM in this device is a perfect amount for a budget phone, which enables it to multitask with ease. The phone has the official Android Market (now known as Google Play or the Play Shop), so you can get official apps for Facebook, Twitter, Angry Birds and all the common apps which are a must. The phone also has Wi-fi b/g, 3G, G and Edge connectivity, so it can be used in many coverage areas. I am currently connected to my corporate network at 48Mbps, which is a decent speed for 802.11g, faster than 802.11b. It also has Bluetooth 2.0 for linking with headsets, speakers, sending files etc. GPS is reliable and accurate to within 100m, and is even more accurate when connected to a wireless network. Battery life varies on this phone dependent on how you use it, I personally have gotten a maximum of 2 or 3 days out of this phone, although if you have everything switched on all the time, it can die in as little as 5 hours. I recommend using apps like ES Task Manager to manage power effectively, this is free on the Market. The main downsides to this phone is its plasticky feel, which takes getting used to, but its not too much of a concern. The charger port being on the right side of the phone can be a pain if plug sockets or PC's are to the left of where you are using it. Finally, Android 2.1 is very limited, there's not any built in options to switch between 2G/3G or to turn Data off, neither can auto rotate be disabled except from using a third party application. I recommend for this phone, if you are confident enough, to grab Racerboy's latest Cyanongen 7.2 ROM, and flash it onto this phone either from CWM recovery or using fastboot or ADB via USB, it upgrades it to 2.3.7 and adds more option. In my opinion an excellent phone for the price, and if you are on a budget, its a good buy.

Dude, if you broke the charger hole, it's not because the phone is bad, it's because you mishandled it, and probably facebook is conflicting with some app... I have mine for two years now, and the only problem I ever had was due to a conflicting Google Maps update that didn't allow me to put a widget in the main screen, and that was Google's fault and not the mobile phone's fault...

The hole where the charger goes is broken so I have to be careful with that, it constantly turns its self off& whenever I'm on facebook it comes straight out off the app. Hope to get a blackberry soon. Well i just got myself this phone and honestly speaking its a really cool phone with awesome features and pre-installed apps...and sure its true the battery life isnt long but the price factor for an android phone of this callibar is pretty reasonable...the camera isnt recommended for nights, but than again it doesn't have a flash-camera...so its kinda expected...internet usage and downloads are reasonably fast... overall i think its an awesome phone...

Has anyone any advice about replacing the touch screen? I can buy a new screen but am a bit worried about reattaching the internal tape and generally fitting it? I have alittle bit of water damage to the touch screen only( not rest of phone. I have left it to dry in a warm place in a box of rice for a few days. This didn't work. Need to change brightness. I assume you sorted it out by now. After booting up phone, you will come to screen, with dialer and contacts icons. Then touch dot in bottom right corner. Now you should see icons on top of screen such as wifi bluetooth, gps. The last one pic of sun is the brightness. Click couple of times to change level. I had same problem in cloudy weather. But sorted it.

Hi, sorry but the CPU of Racer is an ARMv6 one, which is not supported by adobe flash player 10.3+. However, you can still install a hacked version on your Racer. Just google "armv6 flash player" and enjoy.

I agree that the Optimus is a bit better. As to the problems you got... I own one of this and never had any problems (apart from the occasional freeze which happens in EVERY phone). Also, everyone of the units I've sold (yes, I work in a mobile phone store) never had any problems, apart from one that came with factory problem (didn't give any sound)... Apart from that, I wouldn't say this phone is more problematic than phones from other brands, including Nokia, Samsung, and so on... This oppinion based on personal experience and customer comments... Again, I agree, the Optimus is a better phone...

I purchased this mobile phone from Argos Walsall in April 2011 and had it for about a week. During this time i had the following problems. 1)The Predictive User Dictionary would add words but the regular texting pad (12 Key) would not use the words in the dictionary. 2) I tried various alternative software keyboards with no luck. 3) In the last 2 days I was visiting family and while bluetoothing music files from my phone to a family members phone the phone froze and the phone numbers in the phone erased and later i found the music on my memory card also erased. I would not recommend anyone to buy this phone unless there was a way of upgrading the software on the phone as plainly it is bug riddled and certainly not worth the £60 I paid. I have got my money back and now have purchased the LG Optimus ME for £100 plus £10 airtime and its on Froyo not android 2.1.

Got the same problem, not only with Angry Birds, but with Talking Tom Cat and Ikamasutra (full version)... I managed to install Angry Birds (normal and seasons) and Talking Tom Cat by searching for the free download in my browser and after downloading it to the mem card, I installed them... With Ikamasutra, I couldn't find anywhere to download the full version, so I spent my �0,79 for nothing... Hope this helped...

I use 3G internet connection, Wi-Fi, GPS, and so on without problem... Some apps may stop the mobile, but as often as any other phone I've ever had... The battery life... Mine lasts for 1 and a half to 2 days with normal usage (I've seen the same phone last for 3 days), but if you use it a lot to connect to the internet and to use the GPS... It's possible to drain the battery in 5-6 hours...

To the person who asked about a case for their Racer, I bought a case from a shop that sells nothing but mobile phone accessories and was told that my case was designed for the Blackberry. It's perfect.

I have had my phone for a few weeks and I think it's great especially when you consider the difference in price between this and other smartphones. Someone mentioned Skype over wifi..you can now download this on Android Market so great for using when you have a wifi connection.

Well, if you compare it with the iPhone 4 or the Galaxy S, of course it's a cra**y phone... Now, ofr it's price, it's a great, great phone, lacking only in battery life (which I've managed to extend to 2 - 2 and a half days with normal use)...

This phone is perfect!It has everything you need.the price is unbeatable. As for the phone name i have found 4 names so far. - ZTE Racer - ZTE x850 - ZTE Link - TMN Soft Stone I was able to find screen protectors,usb cables and charges so far. nothing else. If some1 know where to buy cases please reply.

I agree with the battery life... But as to speed... Mine is a bit slower now, but of course I've got the internal memory and memory card almost full, anti-virus and stuff running on the background, and most annoying of all, in Portugal, the operator put some apps in the mobile that I don't think anyone knows how to uninstall, which steals a lot of memory... By the way, for those in Portugal who know what I'm talking about, anyone figured it out how to remove all the Sapo cr*p from the mobile? I hate Banca Sapo... Thanks!

totally agree about the blade. it's a better phone too as has 480x800 display that's oled too and the best bargain. GSM arena are too busy patting on the back the likes of sony ericsson etc to notice one of the best phones ever produced, let alone its price. having an h t c desire, would actually say in daily use and quality of screen blade is better. actually maybe arena are busy congratulating themselves over how less neutral they have become over the years thanks to sponsorship. how long will this post last, good question. I should start a site that gives GSM arena competition but based in Britain, anyone else feel the same?

WOW just WOW / The biggest bang i have seen for my buck. I have not yet seen a phone with soo many features at this price. Phone feel it bit cheap and 'plasticky' but looks great and u can over come the feel when u start using it, as u will be so involved in using it u wont know what it feels like :P but of course there is a down side to all these features which is battery life. It is decent but it could be better, having said that I do use the phone almost 5 to 6 hours continuously on skype or web browsing. But keep an eye on killing apps u r not using using the app killer on androids and also turing off Sync, GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, and not having it on full bright indoors, etc. Also one down side was that you can not download skype using the official skype website. you must use 3 (if in UK). And because of this you can not use skype on Wifi only on the 3g network u can. (i think this is because 3 only want u to use them for skype when on their phones) But the phone is excellent, i don't think u can get a better phone then this unless u spend a little bit more and get the HTC WildFire.

I have owned mine for a while now and can say if you turn on GPS / Bluetooth & Run lots of Apps that connect to the web to update & Have the display Bright the battery will be used up in under 4 Hours. However when you have owned the phone for a while and start using it normally eg Set Display to mid Brightness / Set it to standby fast eg 30 secs / Turn off wifi / GPS or Blue tooth when they are not needed & keep an eye on how many apps are running in the background you should get 16-20 hours normal hours usage My iPhone 3Gs can use its battery nearly as quick as the ZTE racer however look at the price diffrence For a low cost Android i give it a deserved 4.5 / 5 the only fault is the screen is resistive so you need to tap a little harder than on the iphone 3GS

Bought it last Friday... Luv this phone, really responsive and fast... Only problem is battery life... First day after a 12 hour recharge the battery lasted for 8 hours... Of course I spent those 8 hours playing with the wi-fi, bluetooth, NDrive Gps, playing games...

I have the phone and i can say its very quick a responsive and the apps are pretty cool. however the battery is poor maybe coz its a new batter i dont know but it went fromm 100% to 85% in about 2.5 hours.

CNET UK have done a review of this phone: They seem to like it. It gets 3.5 out of 5 stars. Their only bad points are that its abit too plasticky and has a resistive screen. Good points are the price, speed, call quality and everything works fine. I've been thinking of buying a budget android phone and think I'll probably go for this one as its only £99 from three/play.com/argos :)

With the experience we've had with ZTE in Australia, they're lack of reliability and poor build quality I wouldn't recommend the brand to anyone at all. Not even if they paid me

battery life for this device sucks, if talk time is 3hrs i can just imagine online 3g time or even regular internet (EDGE) also with a little music Also, the battery life for talk time they show for the stats is always the extreme maximum and not necessarily an average for all devices

In Portugal it is sold by operator TMN as 'TMN Soft Stone' for �140 but it's netlocked. Plus, you have to stay with them for 18 months.

From the information I've found out about this phone, it has 600MHz Qualcoom MSM7227 CPU with 256mb RAM + 512mb ROM.

Noticed there is nothing about CPU speed in the specs. A quick google search shows that it has a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 and according to TechRadar, there is virtually no slowdown in Android 2.1 :)

that's as cheap as it goes for a smart phone with wifi and gps, it even has 256 ram which is a bit better than my hero! it's smal in size and takes up to 8gb microSDs,,, what else would u ask for for only 110£!
