For the price I got this phone at (like 40 bucks I think, when signing up for a line with metro), the phone is pretty good. Nice screen size, looks clean, responds well. Has 2g of ram, and a decent little processor. I would definitely use this thing in a pinch again. My main concern is that 2 out of the 3 I have owned have broken volume and power buttons. If you look at the way it is constructed, it is super cheap. But overall, I'd give it a 7/10, the main concern being the dang buttons on the side of the phone.

Does anybody know if the hardware issue with this phone has a fix? My phone suddenly stop working and wont start. It power on however it only shows the alcatel logo and restart and does the same every time. I tried flashing again, go to recovery mode and nothing happens. I have been reading and looks like this is a hardware issue. Wondering if any of you knows of any fix? Thank you.

Go under settings. look for something that looks like language and input (On my LG the picture is a A) tap it and then usually language is the first click it and you should see English.

Have had my Fierce XL for just over a year. I am very happy. Not over-outstanding in any area, but the phone works perfectly in a very harsh environment and....it has awesome battery life!! Our best phone and I expected far less than it has given us.

Hi all, I have an alcatel onetouch fierce xl 5450n. it has network mode 4g LE/4G/3G/2g. my sim card is 4g LTE, but when insert the sim, it display 2g white 4g LTE is activate. I am in Haiti and the network is Natcom. Please someone know how to fix it out?

Do you live in an area which has good coverage? Try forcing the network in your device settings or try dialing *#*#4636#*#* in your dialer then go to "Phone Information" and scroll down to "Set Preferred network type" -> click on the drop down list -> Select WCDMA only. This will force 4G (essentially 3G, but they call it 4G since it's a better version of 3G). If after forcing this you don't get any signal then that means you don't have any 4G coverage in your area. Don't try forcing only LTE because you won't get any calls. I've experimented with this before and calls won't come in since the phone doesn't attempt to connect to 4G/2G for calls (since it is forced to LTE only). If WCDMA doesn't work for you then set the preferred network type back to the setting it was at which I believe is "LTE/GSM (auto PRL)"

This phone has a big screen which is great for watching videos. The camera is not the best, definitely not good for use at night. I got my phone in May 2016 with a one year warranty. When I got it, the sound sucked when recording video. It sounded distant and muffled. Sometimes when I'm using it, the phone will freeze for a minute or two and I'll have to restart it. Flash Forward December 2016 and one night my phone flashes a completely blue screen and then blacks out. Besides the charging light that comes on when I plug it in, it is completely unresponsive. I tried soft resetting (didnt work), called Alcatel manufacturer and the rep even walked me through a phone resetting process. Still nothing. I have to send my phone in for them to repair it. When they do they will wipe clean all of my data on my phone :( So I decided to upgrade to the ZTE Zmax Pro (I'm still having Alcatel fix it though). I feel this is a good first phone someone 15 and below.

Like T-Mobile (its parent company) and Deutsch Telekom, MetroPCS f*****g SUCKS! I have this handset, but cannot tell if it is as great as everybody thinks it is because I do NOT reside within five miles of an Interstate highway or within five miles of a major city......so my signal reception is a NIGHTMARE (even though the region that I live in is as flat as a pancake). If you are NOT on an Interstate nor in a major city, do yourself a favour and spend the extra few dollars it costs to go with somebody like Verizon who features complete coverage!!!

soft reset:  Press and hold power and volume up until you see the Alcatel Start up screen.  Let go of the power button but do not let go of the volume up yet until you see the android recovery screen. use the volume down to select the option REBOOT SYSTEM NOW  Press power button to Select it HOPE IT WORKS !!!!

Boy, we have some real cranks on here. I had tons of lousy phones from Virgin Mobile and switched to Metro PCS with this phone...not a single problem after a week. Have yet to test out the memory card with a 64 gig or higher card.

It's not as easy as that. Google blocks the factory reset on this phone. I hate it when people who have a weak grasp of android devices think they have the answer to everything.

I have used 64 gb and 256gb sdxc (class 10) cards with zero issue. I think Alcatel just quoted 32 gb because that's the max for SD, sdhc (in any class) . That way customers who don't know the different types of SD cards can just buy any old card up to 32 gb and not need to know the different classes or types. But the phone will read any size sdxc card.

I'm not sure how long it will take your phone , because what you've done to root the phone is only a trap that opens the phone's software to work better but at the same time becomes subject to the infection, and the program that created by Chinese hackers , destroying more than 500,000 product annually. I wish you luck , but remember at the first sign when the phone starts to do things by himself , then immediately install (CM security) because if for a short time does not clean up infection from your phone then the first restsrt phone will become worthless brick

To the people complaining about battery life, I just wanted to say I was shocked when I saw the battery was only 2500mAh. I have experienced stellar battery performance with this phone. I am a pretty active user and still get more than 24 hours of use per charge on average. I'm currently looking to upgrade the phone due to lack of a gyroscope, but otherwise I'm extremely happy with the phone and for $100 it's a great value in my opinion. The only other negative I could point out is the screen resolution, which is only 720p, but it is still a great looking display for most purposes. Anyone in the market for a budget Android smartphone should consider the Fierce XL. I think it will surprise a lot of people.

This is a very nice cheap phone. Unlocked after 90 days from MetroPCS. Rooted with Kingroot. Now it works with Cricket Wireless (AT&T network, better coverage inside the buildings where I work). Added LTE band 5 (see XDA Developers) just to enhance compatibility with AT&T (band disabled in the modem by MetroPCS/T-Mobile, but it was FCC approved for this phone). Smooth working, accepted a 64GB memory card, the only drawback is the small battery size (life). Oh, well... keep a charger in the car and at work.

Bought this phone without researchin on it. ported my number 2 MetroPCS & sales girl said 2 phones were on sale 4 $9.00. So, I switched from Boost 2 them. She said the phone's memory slot can hold upwards of 128GB;don't know. Currently have 8GB of Internal space. I use Apowersoft 2 backup all my installed Apps 2 PC. Will get rid of all Bloatware;yes, there R a ton of them. Wuz attracted 2 this model as my S4 got stolen & the screen is 1/2 inch bigger. Works great, no complaints. Except: can't find settings 2 adjust sensitivity of the touchscreen as my ear turns on other apps, especially my data usage & sometimes I accidentally hangup the phone that way as well. The other 1 is that the volume is low even with speakerphone while receiving calls. Works fine with headphones. Tried several volume boosters, none have increased the volume. The S4 always gave me a warning if I turned the volume up 2 loud;this 1, no dice. Great phone ferr $9.00 & no contract!

The phone does everything I have asked it to. Fast quad core and big screen does keep up. I would say the battery would last maybe 8 hours heavy use. Turning GPS off helps extend significantly. I had trouble with DLNA as the other reviewer had mentioned. So I went and bought a dedicated kodi android tv box instead. I wish it had stereo speakers. But you cant beat the price. A mere 20% the price of samsung s7. Question: will the one touch fierce excel run 64 or 128gb memory cards? The website says 32gb max, but why so low? Did anyone try it yet???

There is a way to bypass this. Its a little complex but worked great for me. Look up "frp bypass" on youtube. There are a couple lengthy vids. Two different methods.

It has the voice option u can turn it on in language and input in setting or accessibility setting. Or hold down the button next to the swipe option. I havent had any issues with the phone once other than getting used to the layout. Had the stylo before this and lost it but this phone is a lil better i think. Bought the alcatel and got the LG V7 for free and thats a nice lil phone for free when u port over.

Battery lasts me almost a day and a half. Great display resolution. The speaker is even pretty good I was suprised. A little awkward in the beginning going from a 4.7 inch phone to this size but not so bad now that I'm used to it.,have had it a month and a half and I'm pretty happy w it. I'd still keep the insurance for the phone for awhile bcuz it would freeze but be fine after a reboot. Idk what that's about but we'll see

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!! I have to charge the battery everyday because it's a piece of garbage. Oh, and for some reason the phone starts auto-answering. I didn't set it like that (perhaps an app I downloaded kicked it), and there is NO way to go into the settings and manually take the phone off this stupid option. And it doesn't ring. So when someone calls you, UNLESS YOU ARE DIRECTLY LOOKING AT THE PHONE AND ANSWER IT (not by pressing a green button, the phone just auto-answers into the air) , it auto-answers SILENTLY and whoever just called you can hear everything you are doing or saying. WHO IN THE WORLD THOUGHT UP THIS OPTION? WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD EVER USE THIS OPTION? IT'S A PHONE!! And it cannot be fixed unless you do a hard factory re-set. I would NEVER, EVER, EVER recommend this piece of $hit to ANYONE.

Second Alcatel Phone I have gotten. Mainly becasue it is the basic phone MetroPCS offers as an alternative to the IPhone or Samsung. It is a piece of trash. It is twice as heavy as my old Samsung Galaxy S4 and has lots of issues with Lollipop. Constantly crashing. If you are looking for a super cheap android phone this is a cheap and shotty as they come. Just got this phone Wednesday with my upgrade for like $80 including the $15 to switch my account over to this new phone. As soon as my phone was activated, I sent a mms to see if it would be sent and asked to be called back to check for the auto answer problem. The mms didn't send and the phone auto answered. No worries, I factory reset on my way out the door of MetroPCS as some helpful people in this forum have stated to solve these problems. It remedied both issues. I haven't had anything unusual happen since then. I'm rooted with Kingroot and used a script to remove Kingroot and install SuperSu. I'm very happy with this phone considering my last flagship was a Note 4.

I sell this phone for a Metro dealer. I do NOT recommend it. Some people get this device and it works ok but I can tell you honestly I have never done more warranty replacements on any other device besides this one. I've had battery/charging problems, antenna problems, SIM/SD card reader problems, speaker problems, headphone jack problems.... It goes on and on. And there are so many being done that typically it takes up to or even over a week to wait on warranty stock availability. Then there is also the problem that on a lot of models the touchscreen has very low sensitivity, and the soft keys tend to be even worse. The camera is not very good either. On paper this phone looks great, the hardware is exceptional for its price point but do not let that fool you, there is a reason it's so cheap. If you want to try it out go ahead, it may work great for you but do not be surprised if it's full of problems. Also for the people who have the auto answering problem a hard (factory data) reset is for sure the only way to clear this issue. Be sure to remove or verify your gmail information first however or you will be stuck with a paperweight. Like the other commenter mentioned his phone will not go past the "enter account information" screen after a reset. There is simply no way around this unless you have the login information for the gmail account that was originally on the device. Do a google search for Android Reset Protection for more information. Also if you're having the issue where you can't send pictures or your LTE data is not working properly it is a problem with you APN settings. You need to create a new APN with these settings only: name = MetroPCS; APN = fast.metropcs.com; MMSC = APN protocol = IPv6.

1. Firstly, use the Power key in order to switch off the cell phone. 2. Afterwards press and hold the Volume Up + Power button for a couple of seconds. 3. As soon as the Alcatel logo appears on the screen release the Power key. 4. From menu which should appear on the screen select " English" by using the Volume buttons to navigate and the Power key to choose. 5. Then use Volume buttons to select "wipe data/ factory reset" and tap the Power button to confirm. 6. In the next step choose "yes" from the menu, and accept it with Power button. 7. As soon as the Recovery Mode menu appears again on the screen select " reboot system now" by using the Power rocker. 8. Excellent! The factory reset has just performed on your device.

I love this phone however the only thing I hate is the fact that notifications don't appear at the top of the status bar. For example, when I get a text message the icon appears but the message content does not scroll across the top of the status bar. Is that just how this phone is made or is there an option for that?

Bought two of these phones from Metro PCS, one for my girlfriend and myself. Absolutely love this phone. The 16GB Memory is bigger than most phones at this price point. The 5.5 inch screen is gorgeous and super clear. I wasn't sure I would like this big of a phone, but now I don't even use my 7" Samsung Tablet anymore. I watch movies on it and I am amazed at the clarity. It has a built in FM radio which is also very cool. Overall, I am very impressed. Great bang for the buck. Highly recommend.

The reasons AM (and Shortwave) in 'phones is a problem has to do with 1, Antenna size. An AM (MW) Antenna in a portable radio is a long coil (hundreds of feet!) of wire wrapped around a ferrite core. Any decent performance would require an antenna thicker than a modern smartphone. Shortwave antenntas on portable radios are 4 to 5 ft long metal telescopic antennas, again no one is gonna put one in a smartphone. 2, a big problem with AM (MW)/SW is due to received interference from all the RF generated within the phone itself even if you cleared all the other factors, that alone would ruin any listening on those bands. Broadcast FM on the other hand is mostly immune from that interference, and requires a simple wire as an antenna. (Hence the use of one of the headphone wires.) TuneIn covers many AM Broadcsters (and some bigger SW ones) But, natch it uses data.

I had trouble sending and receiving pics until I went into settings/more, mobile networks/prefered network settings/LTE off. It worked fine after doing that. Dont know why the LTE doesnt work properly but now I am able to download and send pics

try resetting the apn to default (it should be an option in the menu while you're on the apn settings) doing that network operator search and ask metro to refresh your network. I work for a dealer and that's solved this issue for us a few times.

You think I didn't do that already? I even hard reset the phone and it STILL doesn't let me send MMS or receive them, I called metro, they told me to turn off the WiFi, didn't work. Also, it doesn't let you edit the original APN settings so can't do that either. 4G LTE works fine, but can't send shit.

I love this metro PC phone had $700 Sam gs4. This one GPS finds itself just as fast! Screen is great, color match in low light better than gs4, tho not as sharp.it loses SD card connectivity a few times, no biggie...rooted with kingroot ,see xda. Lasts all day with surf n some Netflix on 4g! Love it. PS never ran out of hispeed service this month 25 gigs? Wow metro!!!

This phone is such a nightmare. I wasted $130 for this. It works good upon startup, then you slowly notice it's just not ready for 5.1.1. Had it been on Android 4, it might be really good. The camera takes pixelated shots unless you use an alternate app, and it has bad quality for phones of this generation. The LED Notification light only lights up for charging even though there's a setting for it. I'm unable to send MMS messages or receive them. I have MetroPCS, and it worked fine even on phones that weren't from Metro, but I just can't send or receive MMS with this, even with new settings. Not sure if it's the OS, but I feel like this phone doesn't understand some of the options that are available.
