I used this phone for a few weeks because my 6S broke and was sent to Apple to get fixed. The good: -Nice build quality -Good daylight camera -Nice and crisp FHD display -Dual speakers are always a plus -Notification lights are nice too The BAD: -Phone is paired with an extremely slow and power-hungry processor. -Battery life leaves a lot to be desired -Phone gets so hot that it probably could melt crayons -The camera is awful in low lit environments Would I recommend this phone? No. You can get the idol 4S which isn't even that more expensive and is a much better phone.

Caution phone has a cool glass back that cracks very easily.....otherwise very good for a baseline phone. Good sound, very crisp display for watching HD. Reasonably quick processor. Battery is bigger than most and lasts accordingly. Beats the base samsung offerings easily.

Had the Phone since it came out and it's been the worst thing ever. Only good thing is the speakers and I rarely use them. Camera = 4/10, Battery = 2/10 (Barely half a day without a recharge), Screen = 5/10, Speakers = 6.5/10, Build = 2/10 (bits have come off), which leaves overall as a 3/10. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE

i bought the idol 4 in feburary and i really loved it i was excited for a new phone however day two of havin it the phonee would get very very hot and it would go from 100 percent charge to 60 in a matter of minutes and its very slippery, all glass so it was a very pretty phone but still it really didn't workit glitched it would restart of its own and it would have black out periods where it was absolutely useless and would go blank it was a lot i wanted a new phone after a month now it was much more durable then the idol3 which got one hairline fracture and stopped working all in all , but the idol for took a beating my son threw it multiple times, and it was pretty cracked in the speaker area and finally cracked the screen same small hair line fracture as the idol 3 not a big crack at all just one little one and the phone pretty much became useless..... i need a phone that can take a beating and have crack all over and still function i will nor=t purchase any more acatel phones ever again

Finally, with general usage, 2 days+ :) Services on = GPS, WiFi & Mobile data (4G) Background apps = Alarm, Email, Skype, Facebook messenger, Signal messenger, Google Play & Google location sharing. Bought it on November, 2016 and am impressed again after years :)) I wish it had = AMOLED display, Fingerprint & >= 3200 mAh battery, would have been the master killer phone!

You are SO right!!! I detested my Alcatel phone as well!!! I was paying for the insurance too. Mine froze up on me,I brought it back to PCS. They said that they would only cover 25% cost of damage and that it would take 2 weeks to replace. No Biggie,I know that it is a cheap phone... I asked the guy that since I paid for the phone,do I own it? He said yes so I twisted it in half,destroying it. His remark was "That was BRUTAL dude" LOL.

To call this phone useless, would be an insult to everything useless!!! Camera is slow and the settings change all the time. Memory is way to small for its own programs; 75% full with no music, photos or videos in the phone. Takes almost 2 minutes to open from off. Drops calls, freezes on all applications. Updates change settings all the time. Have never been able to block the phone from sending out data when it wants to even though I don't have a data plan so my repugnant phone company (Virgin) keeps charging me. Don't call it garbage... garbage can be useful. Looking forward to using a real phone to do a slow-mo video of a baseball bat shatering this fake phone. Never, ever buy Alcatel.

My husband bought me the Alcatel idol 4 and as usual I was excited because it is a new phone but after two days, literally, I knew the phone is useless. Let me break it down. PROS: Good camera Charge quickly CONS: Dies quickly Freezes all the time. I have to restart multiple times and you can't easily open the back of the case to remove and put the battery back Did I mention it freezes all the time SO MANY ADS: I MEAN WHO PUT AN ADS ON A CALCULATOR APP I give it 2/15

I have had many Alcatel phones over the years and have usually only been able to afford the lower tier of the vast Alcatel range but I always hoped to get the top tier phones one day. In spring 2017 I finally got my wish and bought myself an idol4 for my birthday.... I haven't looked back as it is fantastic in every way * the camera is brilliant and responsive and the photos and videos are crystal clear. * the battery lasts me over a week as I am a relatively light user bar music and camera. * the quick recharge feature is outstanding. * it looks and feels classy and comfortable. * the screen is clear and detailed. * the stuff that comes with the phone is very generous including two covers. I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience with Alcatel unlike my one foray away from them before my idol4 were I tried a sony xperia which was woeful in every way especially the glacial speed of the camera as when I tried to take photos of my 2 year old daughter she had practically grown up and left home for university and graduated before it finally took the bloody picture!

No matter any other feature and love relationship an owner has with this phone the bloatware the manufacturer adds at system upgrades provides nothing but a miserable, frustrating and I-can-hardly-wait-til-I-drop-this-phone-and-brea­k-it-experience. Constant ads, notification screen distractions and offers to "clean" boost" and "improve" have taken what was a very good Android experience and ruined Alcatel for ever more.

Before purchasing this phone i new already about the battery life being what most user's say it is, but after owning the phone for not even more than two month's it starts to have problems:freezing, heating up, restarting on it's own, speaker issues, slow processing, apps closing themselves because of the slow processing. So technically speaking, the whole phone is a train wreck. I've tried relentlessly to find the solution, but no luck and after having this phone for about four months, I'm honest to say I'm ready to go and purchase a new phone.

This phone is really nice looking. It is slippery though but if you buy a glass-made phone you should expect it. If the back cover cracks it is available for amateur repairing from AE for just 8 USD. To protect the screen I use protective glass. Technically I had just one problem that Alcatel's file manager app was draining my battery badly. I uninstalled it and its all good. The battery life could be better but after more than 1 year of usage I still get like 30 hrs of normal usage on one charge. Pitty that the manufacturer doesn't update to andorid 7 or 8. Otherwse its a good phone.

Worst phone I ever had .. Wroked well for the first 6 months but problems started after... Nevers even dropped the thing.. I've been holding it for 10 min.. Started at 100% battery and now it is super hot and 80%... Juste aweful ! Always freezing and I only use browser and facebook... Do not buy! Plus Alcatel software is reallllly bad !

I was quite disappointed with the phone for the first year that I had it, but changed my opinion considerably after switching to a custom launcher and downgrading all the manufacturer apps. The manufacturer bloatware is bad, there is no other word for it. It affects both the battery life and the stability of the OS. Without it, the phone is inoffensive and no worse than mediocre.

I'm currently holding the phone in my hand and I couldn't agree more with every single one of the negative reviews. I have only had the phone for a few months and it has more issues than any phone I've had in my lifetime combined. I can't turn up the volume all the way or else it says system UI has shut down then turns off my screen and back on. I can no longer connect to any sort of WiFi no matter the service provider or how fast it is. My phone will shut off after using snapchat and will not allow me to turn it on for a solid 5 minutes. I have only 5 downloaded apps which are all social media none are games. My phone still heats up. Last but not least the battery/charging port is crap, I will go days at a time without a phone because it is connected to a charger because it can't make up it's mind whether or not it's plugged in. In summary, if I was asked to recommend this phone to a friend or loved one, I wouldn't it's terrible I'm getting a new phone tomorrow.

Unfortunately, it is 99% true, because I head the same situation with Idol 2, they are beautifull like design but very soft and the screen cracks easily but after you must put the nes\w lcd + display, I head to pay 50 eur for my Idol 2... :( Otherwise I loved my Idol 2, was good before cracking

I recommend that you buy another one instead of this... the phone is great, fast and run many 3d games nice.. but it gets very hot in your hand in minutes even if you are playing candy crush or another game. The problem is that if you take a video what ever resolution, the phone gets hot and the camera stops working and the phone freezes..

I dropped my IDOL 4 and the screen cracked... not a lot, just 3 lines at the bottom of the glass. Does anyone know what I have to fix, if its only the glass digitizer? According to a shady technician, I have to buy the whole screen (which includes the glass digitizer and LCD) because the IDOl 4 has it merged. Is that true?

Had similar effect, especially with ring/alarm tones became low and not as they should sound. I discovered the AUTO profile was active with Waves MaxAudio and simply disabling it brought back everything to the desired conditions :)

If you are on the market for a phone, steer clear of the Alcatel Idol 4. I've only had this phone for four months and it was the biggest disappointment I've had with technology. First off, the thing started black screen glitching on it's first day in my possession. I took it in to the same Cricket store within an hour of starting it up and the people who "helped" me made a complete 180° in customer service and refused to do anything for me. I've been back three times and each time they just pick it up, take the SIM card out and say it's fine. During one of these visits the salesman actually dropped the phone, chipping it as well as the SIM card. Now it overheats within five minutes of plugging in, it turns itself off, I can't get my apps to stay up without glitching. When I try to answer a call the thing glitches and hangs up on my caller. When I'm texting it glitches and I lose the text. Don't even get me started with trying to use Facebook or messenger. This phone has actually Frozen and I have to completely turn it off like a laptop. This technology is flawed and programmed by an idiot. I'm going to ensure as many people as possible know to stay away from this phone.

My alcatel idol 4 no longer switches to my wi-fi while I'm home. I try everything. I turn off the wi-fi, turn it back on and try. I try entering the network password. Sometimes it'll hook up with my wi-fi, but usually just for 2-3 seconds. I'm forced to use my data while at home. And the battery doesn't hold much of a charge.

Having what seems to be Bluetooth problems with my Idol 4 as well. Cricket is useless. Alcatel's solution is send to the service depot in Texas. Specially I cannot do hands-free calling with my new Chevy Cruze. GM has been all over the problem but finds no reason it should not work and indeed I can get it to work with other phones. I've filed complaints with BBB, my state's AG office, and written to Cricket HQ. Let's see if they care after the sale. As a carrier I have no problem with Cricket But their retail outlets and their hardware and their support SUCK.

The speakers are probably blown out and not as functional. Maybe too much bass, but one thing is sure its speakers were pushed too much and eventually they will make no sound if the settings stay the same.

I have this phone for 5 months now. Starting out with the good things.. Sound os great specially when you use the boom key to enhance sound quality for videos that support a specie of surround sound. Is a good looking phone and for me that uses it mainly for multimedia stuff(YouTube, music and browsing) is good. I recommend disable Chrome and download opera, opera is very light and fast in Android (and windows too). Camera is good too, in low light is his weak point. Down side.. It heats a lot, like a lot! Because of his glass back you can feel it heating, but if you have a cold table or something that can refresh the heat it will get cooler quickly. Sometimes can get laggy but nothing too problematic, in some heavy games can lag a little bit too but can handle most of the games the only problem is the (heat). The vr stuff is not that great, was fun in the first day but got bored of it and never used it again. Overall is a good phone, i picked it up on sales for 230 euros (was 300€). For the extras that come is pretty good, jbl phones, vr stuff and a basic protection case and screen panel. Im still waiting for the nougat update, this bersion of Android (6.0.1) is good and stable but i would like to see atleast one upgrade since it is a one year old phone. I recommend putting a fast sd card so you can expand that memory, it helps a lot and most of the apps you can install in the sd card. 7/10 recommendation. If it gets an update to nougat is a 8.5/10 in price/performance (if it is on sale like i got it, its definitely worth it).

My Alcatel idol 4 as got a few problems with it when I go into my music and look for a track or an album that as been downloaded the phone flashes when looking into my favourite tracks. The phone runs hot the battery drains very quick. Since my phone as been updated it won't let me delete music tracks I have took my phone into the shop where I got it from as was told delete the music player and then reinstall it. I did the phone is still the same nothing but problems with it. This is one of the worst phones I have ever used I thought Nokia was bad but Alcatel is a lot worse.

I've had my phone since Nov 2016 and have loved it. However, just recently it's been acting up, starting with freezing while typing a text. Just yesterday it started buzzing and then stopped. After this happened, I've noticed that during a phone call there is voice distortion when the other person is speaking. I can barely make out what they are saying, while they hear me quite clearly. My audiobooks are starting to sound distorted as well. I don't use a lot of apps & have uninstalled what I don't need. I am using 16 GB out of 58.2 GB. I've contacted Alcatel support, but have yet to hear back from them. Any ideas???

My wife and I both have this phone and have had them for about 1 year. They were great at first, even though they never have connected to Bluetooth devices. It searches and searches for a few minutes, but can't find any devices. More recently, the phones started turning the volume up on it's own. When we are at work, we have the phones on vibrate, but then a few minutes later, the phones tun the volume up, but just one notch. I have reset my phone, disabled apps, uninstalled apps, cleaned the phone. Our phones have different apps, some the same, but not all. I wish I could have the problems fixed, but nothing seems to work. At this point, I could not recommend to anyone.

I don't know what these ppl are doing too their phones... Ever heard of a factory reset? 16GB isn't that much memory to start with so when you take a couple of thousand pictures and videos and download 150 apps and you're running Facebook and Facebook Messenger, you run out of resources pretty fast. Factory reset your phone and if you want to save yourself a headache uninstall Facebook and Facebook Messenger because they put a major drain on your phone. I guarantee dropping just those two apps will give you a 15% boost in available RAM and a 10% boost in battery life. Not to mention the fact that between the two of them you'll save almost a gigabyte of space on your phone. Anyway I've had to Alcatel Idol 3 5.5s, and now I have the 4. I'll be buying the 4S real soon or possibly the 5. You absolutely cannot beat the performance for the price nowhere even close. I still have one of my idle threes but the only problem with those was the screen was fragile and designed poorly because dropping it would result in a busted screen most of the time. I'm very hard on my phone because I use it all the time in my line of work doing low voltage installation and electronic Servicing. I have dropped my idol for about eight times without a case on it and I thought for sure a few times I was going to pick it up and it be busted but nope they did a great job improving that problem. I really beat this phone up before I found the case I wanted, I'm talking about dents scratches and dings I even chipped the back glass a little bit. I dented the top corner so bad that the metal around the headphone jack was sticking up. It fell out of my pocket one time running into the house and landed on my porch without me knowing. I was running because it was raining so hard about 2 hours later I realized where it was since I couldn't find it anywhere in the house. I picked it up off the porch and it was completely soaking wet through and through. It was still powered on so I powered It Off and disassembled it and dried it the best I could and left the battery disconnected while it dried out. It did affect the speakers for a couple of days afterwards but I think there was just some residual moisture trapped in there. I haven't had a problem since. It does get hot when you're using it with the screen intensity up and some demanding apps open especially while charging. But this is with just about any phone. You shouldn't be messing with your phone at all while it's charging that disrupts the "electronic battery" that keeps track of the charge State and health of your chemical battery. Overall this phone has performed Beyond expectations and was a great step forward from the idol 3 for Alcatel. By the way my version is the 6055u from cricket. They do a horrible job on the software, the version coming from Alcatel is much better as it is almost a completely original Android. Cricket messed up a few functions but since root has recently been found for this phone that can be fixed 😁 overall I think they did a pretty good job on this phone the main thing that I don't like is that they stressed this battery as much as possible in order to rate the capacity higher. This is a high voltage lithium battery and charges to 4.4 volts and according to the software I have on mine it reaches 4.4 volts somewhere between 80 and 85%so that means that for the next 15%of the charge cycle it's getting a charge of 1 amp then tapering off at Peak voltage which causes a lot of voltage stress and potentially damages capacity. I haven't had an issue yet, I have been using mine heavily for around 10 months sometimes you need to charge it not once but twice a day because I'm almost always on it. So far the only thing notable is my capacity was originally rated at 2610 and tested at 2660 and now my capacity is testing at 2480 +/-5%. Other than that and the occasional lag when I've hit 80 or 90%usage on my Ram this phone has been great. Not sure why other people are having these problems but I'm assuming it's to do with user error. Because I can guarantee that I have the worst software available that the Alcatel Idol 4 was released with. That's how Cricket does it. Slackers

Its a great phone. In supports quick charge 3.0 (higher than declared quick charge 2.0) because snapdragon 617. Concerning the availability of ordering protective case or tempered glass, it's the same (it fits) as forblackberry dtek50 (so you can buy for dtek50, if there is no for idol 4).

I am from Pakistan and using Idol 4 since last 09 months. Overall this is good phone but there is one problem about the camera. Flash is not powerful, that's why camera is unable to take clear pictures in low light or after sun set. Secondly big problem is the unavailability of the accessories. No front protector, no back cover is available in any market.

I have the phone from september 2016. Pros, bright and clear display with true colours, best speakera from jbl, allmost pure android sowftware with regular corrections, built in materials verry good and shiny, battery last at least a day with medium to heavy usage and the camera is excellent in daylight. Negative:When heavy used, phone is overheating but the glass helps to restore the temperature, poor pictures in low light but if you approach the phone the dual blitz can handle good, no much cases on market and no VR apps development on the market.

6 months into using and I have a huge problem with battery drain from two days ago, I don't have a problem with freezing and heating, but battery just started to drain while locked, I click on power button to check the clock and I have - 20%, after few hours it's on 24%, and I am working, not using the phone... just horrible. My brightness is on low, always, because my eyes are watering from bright light. Screen time out is 2 minutes of inactivity. Second problem is Joy launcher that is pre-installed on my phone and it's not even compatible with this device, so not updating in Play Store... Ugh... Alcatel is using me, and I am so in love with sound quality and I am sad that I saved for this phone, and I have one huge nothing now, its not easy to change your phone in Serbia as you wish ...

Well my fiance got this phone because he didn't want to spend cash on a more expensive and plus free VR ... It worked for about 3 months and now the phone doesn't charge over 50% it's always over heated and very buggy it's sad... So we order a few iPhone 7 plus and called it quits with this phone

Very good phone, incredible features, very acceptable cost - benefit, the ability to invert the screen and the excellent audio quality, are the most outstanding. Bought this phone before deploying. Worked great at first. A month and a half into deployment and it's garbage. I take good care of it so it's not on my end. It heats up very fast, and frequently the touch screen stops working or doesn't work well. I have to restart it multiple(15+) times a day just so I can use it.

Great camera, great sound, fast touch response. No lag. 2.4 and 5Ghz wifi useful. Display fairly big and very bright and from wide angle. Battery could have been more powerful, but ...very light. Recommend case to protect from dropping. Was replacement for me from MotoG and is much, much better.

This is a great starter phone. One of the best phones at it's price (hardware wise) with little to no hassle with getting a line activated for it. In total, you can start a line from nothing for $250, phone and month included, and from there it's just 30$ a month and you OWN the phone. Great speed, great service, amazing flexibility, two fantastic cameras, and four speakers that can get so loud this thing could easily power a party. Can't believe I haven't gotten a smartphone before, I love this thing.

My idol 4 has very poor reception at all times. Carrier Cricket Wireless. After trying all the obvious things. The Cricket store clerk told me it was probably the phone itself. They mentioned the antennae may be bad. Im not sure if they meant MY phone or the idol 4 in general.

First thing I noticed about the phn upon purchasing is when I make a call and hold the phone to my ears the sensor should cut the screen out. But the problem was when I remove it from my ear the sensor wouldn't notice to turn the phn back on. So the phone is calling someone but you can't hang up. To make matters worst the power key wouldn't even respond to lighting the screen back up so the call goes to the person voicemail which always waste my minutes. I returned the phone and they replaced it but the same thing with the replacement but now I still have to use the power key to turn on when I'm on a call because the sensor only worked long enough for me to leave the shop. Day two I woke up with a freeze screen now I'm regretting wasting $300

I have Idol 4 for more then 6 months the phone heats up very quickly and battery drain faster. Even for normal browsing phone gets heat up. The good part about the phone is it has JBL speakers. My personal experience is don't buy this phone. I will never buy Alcatel in future. Its made by the TCL if you have to buy Chinese made phone why don't go for different brand. I have 3 phone with me now and Alcatel idol 4 is the wrost phone even I am writing a review its heating up. I have bought Xaomi Mi Max which all over good phone not best camera but performance wise the phone is amazing no heat up if you are heavy gamer you will love Mi Max. Iam playing Dawn of Titan which high graphic Mi Max is best phone if you are gamer. HTC 10 is good also if you are good gamer but the screens display is not good in daylight Alcatel as well.

Very good phone. I have the 2gb ram version and its really fast. Enough power for everything except heavy gaming (which is okay considering the price). Just don't update the Android System WebView in the Google Play Store and you are good to go. This app really reduces performance for some reason.

I have alcatel idol 4 5.2. the battery is not for someone that can use it for surfing you need charging after 2 hours and the worst thing is the camera for outdoor only. But the mobile is very good never freeze one of the beat.

an amazing phone, its processing is fast and seamless and I have no problem with surfing at all and I play heavy games with very little lag. the only issue that I've ran into is that I coulndn't use the 256 gb for internal storage

I have no complaints about this phone.. except for the front facing camera. I was hoping to use this as my B camera to record my face while i use my DSLR to record what i'm working on, however the front camera frame rate is all over the place and seems to change even during recording. I've gotten 14.25fps, 14.9501 fps, 14.985fps, 18.495fps, 21.588fps. and 29.083, as well as probably others, i just went through a bunch of videos and found those. This makes it impossible to combine with other videos, as the audio and video is way out of sync and the amount that it's out of sync changes throughout the video :( sad.. Created a case with Alcatel tech support, will see if anything comes of it but i'm not holding out any hope.

First impression is satisfying except battery life. it must be at least 3000 mAh. it supports quick charge 2.0, but i have travel charger and it doesnt seem 2.0 charger. if you search qualcomm quick charge 2.0 technology you see volt and ampere values. these values are 9V and 2A (it means 18Watts). but in here we have 5V and 2A (10Watts) values. VR feature, my boom, JBL sound, waves maxx audio, reversibility is also good. But there are some negative properties especially buying accessory. Alcatel brand is old but as a smartphone manufacturer is quite new. You cant find screen protector and case easily. Matrix Flip Case for Alcatel Idol 4 case is very good but espensive. you can buy on amazone only. Overall this smartphone is very good for this price group. But you may some expectations like 16Mp camera, amoled screeen, 32Gb rom at least and android 7.0 Nougat instead of Marshmallow. User note for antutu results: 42298

It all depends on the user really, if you're an average user like me, you will get a full day and half out of this phone. The phone is fast and snappy,really impressive. Great build, it has a fantastic display and great sound quality from the speakers, probably the best sounding speakers i heard from a budget pbone. I highly recommend getting a good protective case for this device, as the phone is slippery in the hand and vulnerable to light scratches as the back and front is made of gorilla glass 3. I see people complaining about the phone overheating. It has quick charging and if you use this device while it's on a quick charge,it will slightly heat up. High quality gaming and watching high quality videos for a long period of time, yes I'll say it will heat up pretty quickly, but nothing to be worried about. If anyone is considering getting the Idol 4, you won't be disappointed. This is the best phone i purchased anyways and i love it...

I had a alcatel idol 4 , first one ....lol the bootloader got jammed up , idk why probably a network virus. So took it in , was pretty much new otherwise...and paid deductable etc. Now this one I have I have noticed issues with battery charge ups etc... and other stuff that people complain about, but what they fail to understand is majority of it is software and accessory related issues causing all of this. Go buy a new charger , do a full factory reset and your good to go majority of the time. Phone runs hot if used for insane games but it is capable 100 and has solid performance for sound/gameplay. I'd have to say I would recommend the phone. Caution - if you like to root ...its very difficult if not impossible atm. They have some kind of lock on bootloader and watchout for carriers bloatware and alcatel bloatware...it is nasty, lots of adware.

I haven't the idol 4 but I have its big brother the pixi 4 6 4g and I am on tesco which uses o2 transmitters, I have no problem outside and good 4g coverage so if the idol 4 is the same it should be a good buy.

My opinion, Don't Buy This Idol 4, durability no good. For 2 weeks my phone just went blank power was on. Went to authorized retailer to file a claim for the phone, by the way I purchased a insurance for the phone coz if anything happen to it I will get a new phone. guess what you have to pay a deductible for the new phone $$$75$$$.That's option no.1. Now option no.2 called the warranty dept. again theirs two option, 1. have to send the phone to be inspected for any damage. Remedy is repair or new. But insurance will kick in for new phone so again you have to pay a deductible $$$. 2.you have to pay/deposit for the new phone out of the pocket before they inspect the phone. you get the phone in 1 business day. if the phone is defective they refund you your deposit. But if they found your phone for any damages, will insurance will kick in $$$ deductible. Waste of money and time.

The first issue is you use snapchat the next issue is you didn't get a Samsung high class ssd maybe for your pc, now lets assume you meant to say class 10 Samsung sd card (that is the only variety they make ) it wouldn't speed it up as the sd card storage is substantially slower if any thing it would have worsened the problem unless you filled the internal storage and downloaded some nasty ram stealing app like any dodgy "ram clearing 10000x faster MLB init" app

I completely agree. This phone has so many "not responding" problems and I have to wait. Snapchat is nearly unusable. Facebook takes 10 seconds to load anything. Instagram lags more than my idol 3. I got a high class Samsung SSD card that helped with gaming but that's about it. I really want to stay with Cricket but I feel like the only phones worth buying there are $500+. And the VR is super gimmicky. Never works the way you want it to. Really grainy. When using VR or just playing 3D games, it feels like it's gonna catch on fire. Not a good phone.

Yeah speakers rock, but unfortunantly i got back to my z5.. Main reason battery on idol 4, i had to charge it twice a day.. Standby is pretty good, but SoC is around 3 hrs.. pretty lame, on z5 i get all day and charge it at night 23pm with 35% left

The stereo speakers are what makes this phone so awesome. They are off the chain. Love my idol 4. and since this phone basically runs stock Android it's very fast with little to no lag. Some of the latest 3d games you might notice slowdowns but that doesn't make them unplayable. Great job Alcatel. And the phone design and materials is like a flagship

I have this phone for about 7 months and i love it. It works fine i have no lag! My version has 3GB of ram and i am able to do everythink. I work and i play some games i have no complains. The camera is good for a midranger, the battery does well for about 2 days. If it had a 16 MP camera and 3000mah battery it would be perfect to me. I buy it in Portugal for 230.00€ so i belive it was a good deal. The quality of construction is great.

I've had this phone for 2 months now and it's the best mid range phone on the market. Hands down this phone is amazing. Everything about it works phenomenally. Anyone that says it lags or had any issues then they must have gotten a lemon. I can run 5-10 heavy apps at once with no problem at all. The camera, screen resolution, and quad speakers are incredible. The only other phone with a better screen would be a high-end like a Galaxy S7 but this phone blows the S7 speakers out of the water. And the screen on this is still an amazing resolution HD screen. Watching movies and playing games or anything multimedia is amazing. Like I said it's been 2 months and not one problem so if you purchase this phone and have any problems with lag or anything like that then just swap it out for another one and I guarantee you you won't have any problems with the next one.

I have had this phone for approx 5 months now, and hands down it is one of the best phones i have owned, i have had every phone you can name at some point or another as i am a mobile phone freak and consistently change/upgrade handsets but this phone has been a pleasure to use. I have the 3gb ram version. smooth performance, no issues since day 1.. speakers are probably the best ones i have used, everyone i have shown/compared speakers with agree its the best sounding, finely tuned speakers out there... Alcatel has done an amazing job on this phone, design is spot on!! slick, classy. only thing two things i would change about the phone is 1) storage should be 32GB, but no biggie as can use SD card.. and 2) the camera, increase to 16mp and it will be phenomenal to use, battery life: easily gets me through a whole day with use of wifi, gps, browsing, listening to music, calls etc. im a heavy user of my handset. As i said.. one of the best phones i have had the pleasure of using this is my independent view of this phone from user experience, 5 months going and still going strong

So, I did a promo with Alcatel for Cricket last week for the OTW (one's to watch) tour. And we were promoting and also gave away a FREE IDOL 4 phone w/the VR goggles along with backstage passes that night. I literally couldn't keep my hands off of this phone or thinking about it since. BTW I'm coming from the LG Stylo 2. 3 weeks in and the very 1st day it kept crashing on me. IDOL 4 *I first enjoyed the feel of it. The gorilla glass is nice but not sure of the dropage damage. *The 8mp front camera is juuust right especially in dark places. ( Not that I'm in them often, don't ask me how I know.) *I love swipe, the keyboard moves pretty swiftly and accurate. *Good processor! Takes 3 seconds MAX(I counted) for each app to open. *The fact that there are speakers on the front AND back top to bottom.....(c'mon now) *AMD last VR goggles..... This phone is garbage. It doesn't lag unless you use Snapchat, Instagram or Facebook. Anything that stresses the phone shuts it right down. It's so long I hesitate to call it lag. It's worse than that, it's complete stoppage for 10 to 20 seconds at a time. Had a galaxy s4 before this and it was way better. So basically this phone can't keep up with a phone from 2013. I honestly don't know where the good reviews are coming from. Did you upgrade from a Razr? Something from 1999? It has good speakers and is a good phone. So was my old Nokia brick phone that played snake. This thing is just terrible. Will never but from alcatel again. Very unhappy and kind of pissed at all the good reviews that people must have been paid to leave. I have had this phone for a few weeks now (Cricket USA) and all in all its a good phone, even after switching from an ASUS Zenfone 2 can you imagine. I have 2 issues with it though. 1. Battery life when using GPS is very bad, now i know GPS sucks battery life but i went from 64% to 10% in like 30 mins using GPS. Needless to say this is very unusual and alarming. Faulty unit??? 2. The screen, once in a long while, freezes. The menu buttons work but the rest of the screen is unresponsive. After like 60 secs it comes back no issue and the phone works fine. This has now happened twice but its not a big issue so far.

Hello. I got this phone version 6055k Europe with 3gb ram, from a month and from now I can say that is a really good deal, honestly. The display is very bright, accurate and colors are awsome. Both cameras are doing a great job, build quality is with strong aluminium and glass, I droped him twice and not even a scratch. The phone does not lag, restart or anything like this. Battery charging time is about one hour and 50 minutes and last one and a half day with moderate usage. I recommend it for those who wants a awsome looking phone and a good device for a good price.

Got this phone from Cricket for $99 with the vr goggles. Very nice phone for the money. No lag or stutters and the display is very nice. Build quality is superb with glass front and back and aluminum around the edges. Overall id give this phone package an 8 out of 10. Interesting thing I discovered on the idol 4......we..idol4 owners... All know that the battery life is disapointing and heat problem is very frustrating! BUT!... if you turn on the battery saver from settings it will doubles your battery life and the phone will NOT get hot anymore! Of corse there are some minuses... You will no more receive messages on whatsapp messenger etc only when you wake up the screen and you can't stream music online while the saver is on... Oh... And you will have to get used with that orange bars..... For me is worth it!

Now than.... Android authorithy tell us that the idol 4 has dragontrail on the back and gorilla glas 3 in front.... I used my idol 4 without protection for a month and.... Dragontrail wins! I have 3 little scratches on the front(probably because of dirt.. Dust) and no scratches on the back.... Now i have screen protection on the front and the back is naked... I used my Idol 4 few days for testing (sending back, too much network problems), taked good care of it, and still the screen had scratches. And my old Xperia have none. I wonder, does the Idol have any protection at all or really the Dragontail is so weak? BTW, normally phone official page contains such (screen protection) information, as this is good selling point. But nothing on Idol 4 page - So I think, that Idol doesn't have any protection and the way mine did scratch, just proves it.

About updates, at least I got one (July) security update. About network problems, they exists. Also users in Russian forum are complaining. Quote from there ( ) with help of Google translate: "The reception quality is 20 percent less than in all my previous smart phones and smart phones, which are now owned by relatives and colleagues. :( If there are places where the antenna at all shows the 3G reception 2-3 sticks, then dumped in Alcatel 2G. And even in an apartment where I had never seen anything to me at full 3G antenna was not filled now shows half of the antenna and also can switch to 2G." I also got replacement, same problem and the replacement had much worst display tone (kind of green and dark). Phone heats, but they all do. Idol 4 uses front led also for notification led, so it's only white and too bright. Also Dual SIM is somehow "locked" for any third party app (tested with many and also one app developer tried all the tricks without any success), so forget any kind automatic SIM selection based contacts or groups, as it's not allowed by Idol. It's very annoying. Front sound, ear speakers and loudspeakers are same, quality it's good for them who listen music, but it's bad for phone calls, as sound contains too much low frequencies, and if I increase volume to hear better, then also everybody near me hears everything. Boot loader is locked. No root available. Matrix Flip Case is not included. VR is pointless for me, I'd better get it without VR (available in Russia). So it's good phone to watch movies and listen music, but overpriced and mainly due network problems (I don't think it's software, but rather hardware issue) I return mine and wait for new Nexus or some alternative, 5-5,2" Qualcomm powered phone. Sadly, the selection is almost none.

From what i've gathered from forums and comments, it feels that Nexus 5X is better choice than Idol 4, i am still not fully sure which one i am getting, but no fingerprint sensor, no gorilla glass (it has dragontrail, but i heard it is less scratch resistant glass), lazy updates from Alcatel (as i've heard from comments about their previous phone, it might not be true for this), worse processor (i am not fully sure of it, but it seems like 617 is not really good from the comments), worse network sensitivity (at least what Vau said below in his comment got me worried, it might no be the case for others though), no 4G+ (if i am correct, so no higher network speeds where it is available) . On the other hand, Alcatel has fantastic audio quality, better build quality, better cameras. Probably a better choice for a multimedia phone, but i am not so sure about it anymore since what i am searching is a fast phone with a good performance for normal daily use (even if good audio is a big plus), which is not going to be abandoned by developer after the launch.

No, I'm not gonna buy 4s, I'm buying idol 4 (299€). I viewed Nexus 5x also, it's good phone, but front facing camera not so good as alcatel 4 + it has LED.Also alcatel 4 have many camera modes, and with VR. In Nexus 5x there's no sd card slot, which is pretty bad. One thing that separates it is the processor . Alcatel 4 wins in all cases excluding processor and fingerprint. Plus it has VR&JBL including AND best sound quality, boom key.

Redmi Note 3, for a smaller phone I recommend the Nexus 5X. Just depends on what you want you want, a phablet or standard sized phone? Don't buy an SD617 phone because it sucks ok. And just in case you want my opinion on the Idol 4s, well it cost $399 and that is ridiculous, considering you could get the much, much better One Plus 3 for the same price.

There is a preinstaled game...lamper vr....wich works fine,probably 'caouse is optimized but of you download very hard games for VR...well...they run good but not great.....videos...depends by the quality of the videos....youtube looks good in VR but only the new videos with high resolution...there's not lag in VR but there's a lot of pixelation science is only a fhd display...fulldive cinema apk is great for 2d movies and vaar's player is good for 3d videos. Final conclusion: Idol 4 manage any situation you wanna do with it but i think it's primary destination is multimedia...that jbl speakers dlow your mind!!screens image is great...but not for VR.....what i like the most at this phone is the is an anti-borring phone....is like Alfa Romeo's cars....sometimes it can get you some incredible sensations and sometimes is a litbe dit disapointing.....i have this phone for almost one month and i like it more and more... I have tested Idol 4 (German VR version) and I have two problems: 1) The speakers location, they are at the phone edge, so during a call, the phone doesn't cover my ear hole, but instead I must hold phone in some strange and uncomfortable position. 2) The network sensitivity, I can see the operator antenna from my window, it's about 500 meters away and all others phones are constantly showing max 4G signal. But Idol 4 shows only 10-20% signal and it won't keep 4G connection, it jumps between E, H+ and 3,5G - I have never seen this with any other phone. Also seems antenna is located in bottom, so just holding a phone lowers signal even more. I thought the network sensitivity is maybe sim card or hardware related, so I replaced sim card and also Amazon sent me a replacement phone. But the problem is same. Maybe it's related to mobile operator, as some users from other countries are happy and some unhappy. So I think I return the phone and keep looking some other, max 5,2" phone, probably will wait for the Nexus 2016. Nextbit Robin is also alternative, but it dosn't have metal frame, so it's very fragile.

I'd say, battery depends of phone usage. I prefer lighter phone and charges everywhere. And as I don't play games or listen music, just some messages, news, browsing, the battery is fine for me. Android 6 and Doze mode helps also a lot.

I received last night an upgrade on the software...the phone still works great,the only news is fyuse app....but the sound in not as good as it was before!the speaker from the bottom of the phone is a litle bit louder than the one form the top and the surround it's no more so beautifull like it was before upgrade..... Just got this phone for $233 in Saudi Arabia, 6055K model with 3GB ram. I was hesitant on this due to less than stellar experience with the Idol 3 5.5 I had which suffered overheating and extensive stuttering. This phone is like night and day in terms of speed and heating despite the similar cpu. UI is smooth and heating while present is not as crippling as before. Audio is great and nicely done in the bezels unlike HTC. Screen looms really nice and is responsive, and colors are rich without being too much. Camera is capable of decent shots but it loves using too high an iso level especially indoors so I tend to use manual and set the iso myself with better results. Battery life is good and complemented by quick charge, bear in mind it does not come with a quick charger but I used a third party one just fine. Mine came with a nice flip cover and clear plastic back. Overall a nice and stylish phone, if you aren't too much a heavy gamer and a decent camera suffice check if out.

It's Android 6, not phone bug. Did You try Settings > Backup and reset > Network settings reset? Did You sent complaint to Alcatel? But true, Alcatel is not very often, if any, releasing updates. I didn't find anything about this issue in Russian forums, but users told, that in Airplane mode, isn't possible to enable wifi, unlike other phones allow. However, if Your issue is a known and global problem and Google have fixed (Nexus) it, and Idol 4 users starting yo complain, then Alcatel must also release some update. I will test mine, and complain to Alcatel and if no reply or update, then probably will sent back to Amazon also.

I don't care about that anymore, because I've sent my Idol 4 and Idol 4S back to amazon. The phones are really nice, but currently it seems that they didn't reconnect to mobile datas when you're leaving a wifi-network (or switching manually back). Only a restart of the phone (or sometimes the activated flightmode) is getting the mobile data network back. So I am waiting for the first (or maybe 2nd) Update for these phones and I'll get these phones a little bit cheaper then. ;)

I'm still waiting mine from amazon.de and won't buy extra case before, as package includes Matrix FlipCase. About battery, disable all unused apps, adjust Doze mode, it should help.

I bought it from very.co.uk they shipped it out to me early. It came with the VR. I'll look into the battery issue. So far everything else about the phone continues to be impressive. The dual speakers are great and the overall performance of Android is good. I've just received my fitbag sleeve from Germany today. I highly recommend them. I have one for my Lumia and my friends also bought them after seeing the quality of mine.

In russian forums, users told about constant active battery mode, that phone won't enter into deep sleep mode, as some monitoring app prevents it. And from where did you buy it? Amazon uk doesn't sell it and in amazon.de it costs 304€ includin VR stuff.

I've had the idol 4 for about a week now. Everything about the phone is great apart from the battery life. My previous phone was a lumia 1520 which has a larger capacity battery but also a six inch screen. The battery life on the lumia is much better. The idol 4 seems to drain the battery very quickly. I'm wondering if it's a faulty battery unit as I've heard no mention of the battery life being poor. Other than the poor battery performance the phone performs great and the dual stereo speakers are fantastic. The screen is bright and produces vivid colours. The camera is nothing special but seeing as my lumia has a 20MP with OIS I guess it's to be expected. Its a very lightweight phone but still feels like a quality product. I would recommend buying it if the price is right. I paid £200GBP.

I skipped Nexus 5X for Idol 4 (not arrived yet), don't care about fingrprint sensor, as I'm too paranoid. The only thing what's bothering me, are future upgrades. TCL aka Alcatel is acting like typical Chinese company, pushing out new products and don't care about supporting them or or oldones later. But hopefully Idol 4 will be popular phone and some will release Cyanogenmod version soon.

I've had the idol 4 for 2 weeks now it feels and looks very stylish. It's got the marsmallow upgrade and is fast at doing tasks it also came with a VR kit. Which was it's actually packaging reasonable plastic materials not like cardboard google. It's got a VR launcher app on the phone and a VR game installed and some other stuff you can try out. The idol 4 is the 5.2 inch which is about the right size 5.5 is too big for some people I think. The JBL speakers and earphones make a big difference regarding listening to media. Also the boom key is really some thing else you use it to open different applications get this phone you won't regret it. Hope this review helps from some one who has used the phone.

When I had 4,7", after a while it felt small, so I bought 5", then thought, that maybe 5,5" is better, but was not, way too big. So now I'm gonna try Idol 4 & 5,2". But true, no idea, why 5,2" size was developed. 5" is enough, seems 5,2" is just a marketing ( size does matter) trick:).

I am confused as to why this phone is not at most 5.0" Why sacrifice single-handed usability just to add a couple more inches? That makes ZERO sense. Who is going to find use for the extra width? I know people say that 2 inches is not a big difference, but people have to understand that I stand by my limits, because phones have been pushing the boundaries for screen size every year and my hands are not going to grow bigger to accommodate for that. The Alcatel Idol Touch 3 was a great phone, but unfortunately, I did not purchase the 4.7 phone because it had too low of RAM and too small a battery. Unfortunate.

Idol 4 and Idol 4S are on sale right now! Every single dealer here in Germany could offer these two models. Amazon, Saturn, Media Markt - just a few examples. ;)

They moved the release to Q3, waiting for this phone as for that price it look like good combo. I have the Idol 3 4.7 and its great phone. That reversible feature is really catchy. Does anyone know when the 4 can be on sale?

I have the moto g 3rd generation and I was planning on getting the moto g4 Plus right after. I see this phone and I'm interested in it, but.. I bought my friend the idol 3 and the call quality is terrible. If a cell phone doesn't have good call quality then I have no use for it. I think that's ONE THING all cell phones should get right. I read reviews that others had problems with the call quality also. Also if I get the moto G4 plus I'd get updates. Android N looks awesome and I really want that update. If the idol 4 doesn't fix it's call quality then I'm definitely sticking with moto. Alcatel finally updated their site to actually show the idol 4 better, but it's taking forever for it to release.

They have waited too long to make it available. 299 euros will be expensive, considering that future midrange phones will feature a more power efficient Snapdragon 625, causing less overheating, longer power on battery times, and better gpu (Adreno 506). Moto G4 is 269 euros with a larger screen and battery, featuring the same snapdragon 617. This phone should have been available in April...now it's just too late.

The Mi 4s looks fantastic but is Asia-specific. It doesn't have the bands for US customers. I wish it did though because I love the size and the look. The Idol 4 has all the bands for GSM carriers in the US.

Xiaomi use miui. Miui is the best form of Android. Yes there will be Chinese apps just shove them in a folder out of the way and done. The mi4 I think has a slightly better camera than the other mi4 varieties. I can tell you that Alcatel idol 3 has amazing front facing speakers. If you watch a lot of youtube etc it i recommend. Both companies make impressive phones. You can't go wrong. Xiaomi do lots of updates and bug fixes etc. I found their budget phones to be problem free.

This or the Xiaomi Mi 4s? Having a hard time choosing. I like the 5" screen of the Xiaomi Mi 4s better than this one's 5.2", but I also like the 4 speakers, JBL earphones, and the Boom Key on this one. But the Xiaomi Mi 4s has a more powerful processor and a fingerprint sensor. Not sure if I would like USB Type C. t I also know that the software is better and more updated on the Idol 4. I also value tha camera and I know both have Dual-LED flash and 13MP but just don't know what sensor is used on either of them. But this one has 8MP front with flash vs 5MP front on the Mi 4s without flash, so, please help me decide which one to choose :) Thanks, I would appreciate any response.

Very good phone, it seems to have a very nice display, very nice cameras, low weight (other phones are getting heavier, 165g for XperiaXP or 152g for G7) and good tickness. Only weakness is CPU but should be enough for a year / two.
