You may want to look at the homebrew ROM market though, it looks like AOSP 7 and 8 have been ported with a modicum of success.

However make sure you are buying a genuine xiomi, as there are faked out there. I brought myself from HongKong trip, so got a pretty good deal.   • got the phone 1 week ago, it is the real one. I was not aware that there were fake ones selling around, in that sense i was lucky. I can say that the phone is up to my expectations. This is my first smartphone and it feels so comfortable. The phone is very powerful, however there are many apps and games that still need to make use of the computational and graphical capabilities of the new snapdragon S4. I hope that 2013 apps will exploit the phone's true power.

  • the ONLY way to be sure you got the real xiaomi phone is by purchasing it straight from xiaomi's official website, it's the ONLY way. The other sellers raise up the price to make a profit, and may even sell you a fake phone. I believe November 29th is the next day xiaomi releases more phones for sale. Hope this helps.

  • Well, you don't really need FM radio, there are far more radio channels on the internet, and I have a portable 3G modem, so for me internet is unlimited. But imagine that you can buy a 1$ radio anytime, it would be a PITY not to buy a phone just because it does not have radio. The other problem, well, is the SD card, MI 2 does not have one, just 16 or 32 internal. But remember that it has usb OTG (on the go). That means that with a special cable (2$) you can plug in anything usb-like, that includes flash memory, HDD, SSD, a fan(yes, a mini fan!), a mini fridge, a keyboard, mouse, anything that works with USB. So, you will just have to carry all the time the cable and a HDD, and Voila! you have a phone with 2TB of memory :D

Yes, they released the 2nd model just days ago, but they're already announcing this. Apparently it is coming out next year in August. Current specs are absurd: 1999RMB price tag, 8 core 1.8ghz processor, 16GB ram, 150GB HD, 4.5 inch screen, 489PPI res, and a slick looking super thin design. I speak/read Chinese, so I've been checking out their Weibo feed (China's twitter) as well as some hands-on reviews on Youku (their youtube). My conclusion: Temper the excitement. XiaoMi has been doing a promotion for their "1s" model, which has been less than successful. The company claims it is afraid that releasing the XiaoMi 2 now would harm sales of the remaining 1s inventory, so it looks like they will be pushing back the release date for 2. Netizens are all pretty peeved, and most believe the release date will be pushed to mid-November because the 1s promotion has been extended into the beginning of next month. Firstly it has a massive 2GB RAM (Extreme multi tasking) Quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.7GHZ Processor not 1.5 (Xiaomi 2 Quadrant:7600+ Galaxy S3 Quadrant4800+ Higher the better, highest quadrant in the market right now) 1280x720 screen = 342 insane PPI sharper text then the new retina display mac book 720p in 90FPS (HOLY FUCK) this as smooth as your TV programs no other phone has 720p at 90FPS (1080p at 30FPS , 8MP+HDR) Adreno 320 is said to save the power when playing games by 50% and performance increased by 60-70% Android 4.1 jelly beans project butter will make it smoother from estimated 90FPS to 160FPS (DANG) So guys in conclusion this is the best phone for performance, media, multi tasking and probably the best battery saver. Battery optional to 3000mah!!
