Only feature that works correctly is the phone....Camera quality is terrible and picture files actually get mixed up and long deleted pictures "reappear". Downloading apps and even updates are a constant problem and storage issues a problem. Tracfone also included an app identified by AVG protection software as "Spyware" that can NEVER be deleted! How is that legal?

This is the worst smartphone I've ever owned. The only feature that works correctly is the phone. The camera is the worst feature and the camera "file" pixels get combined, mixed up and long deleted pictures show up in files. The download and storage is second worst.

I got this phone on sept2011. It was my first smatphone, so in the beggining there were no complainings. Nice, clear, loud soind, fine screen, fast enough - until you fill it with some apps. Camera wasn't spectacular... all in all price approved quality and much more. After 2 or 3 months it started to blocking, not responding, camera get slightly weak . I have to wait a lot for phone to respond and open any app. I was unable to read msgs normaly.. or to write them. When connected on pc via USB couldnt do anything, because it starts to randomly open apps or call ppl from contacts... in the same time battery got really flat.. no matter how much time phone is on charger, couple of phonecalls drain battery very quickly. I would reccommend this phone to LOW demant users who would like to have phone to make regular calls and check e mail... and listen fm radio. Just that.

You cant lower the ram memory usage if you have upgrated the android from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 Ice Cream because the Gingerbread 2.3.6 use 50-100mb ram but the ice cream use 150-200 or more ram

This is 1 of the 1st smart phones i purchased.. however having problem with the inbuilt memeory to small and will always use SD Cards. After one year using this phone I can say it is very shitty phone, battery last 2 hours without touching the phone, and 30 minutes if I'm using it. If I'm using 2-3 applications at once it's getting stuck and need to be restarted. Problems with the sound, even it is on maximum it produce very low and distorted sound.

Is there some other way of resetting? Holding down the volume button and on/off only gives the three options of 'silent mode' 'airplane mode' 'turn off'. No Alcatel character comes up. No 'back up' or 'reset' option in settings either. Using Alcatel ot995. Thank you

Up to three days I could 'download' photos sent by friends. Now I get 'download unsuccessful' message. 3G sign is on but changes to 'H' when I want to download. I have no problems sending photos. Have reset with Telstra and received 'set up for MMS' message. Please I just want to SEE the photos. Look forward to hearing from you.

Why on Earth can't you post an official 4.0 ICS update to Macedonia? I just finished an official update and from 2.3.6 it got me to....... 2.3.6 again!!!! Hi there, I suggest you download Skype from the Play Store (and make an account on it). It is a free application that allows you to make video calls for free over the internet. Make sure you're using your phone's Wifi connection though, because it may cost you a lot of money if you don't have an internet data plan (at least it's like this in my country, not sure if it's like that in yours too). Your daughter will have to download Skype too (but most kids are using Skype so she likely already has).

ICS and bundled virus scanner: GPS problem I bought the OT-995 1,5 years ago. System after upgrade is ICS 4.0.4, and AVG antivirus pro, version ~2.9.2 (older but premium version) was included. I had often problems with GPS receiver - working only a few minutes, quite insensitive, or GPS not accessable (missing activity symbol) until reboot. After switching off the real-time virus scanner, GPS works nearly perfect. So I changed to a freeware scanner.

you go onto the Alcatel site and click the Alcatel OT-995 section and then it will have a tab that says 'Download'. Click and download the link that says One Touch Upgrade. Once it has downloaded, plug your phone into the computer and it will say 'do you want to upgrade' or something like that. It then takes around 45 minutes and it should be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich :-)

Hi, I have the Alcatel onetouch 995 ultra; bought it in Holland. Now i'm going to Canada. I know there is a issue with different networks/Mhz and not al european phones will work overthere. Can Anyone tell me if this phone works in CAnada(Ontario, quebec and Nova scotia)?? Hello! one question - have any of you experienced issue with wi-fi connection? I have big issue when connecting to wireless router (TP-Link). In the beginning i'm able to dowload information from the net but after certain time/MB-flow, the router freezes and other devices (laptops) also can't be connected to it. Whitout OT995 being connected to that router - everything is OK, but once done - the same problem every time. I tried with other smartphones (iphone 4s, Samsung gallaxy 2) - no such issue. Please help!!! Is it a router/network issue, or something specific with the OT995 hardware/settings?!?

okay, i just found a solution to the no video light option in the built-in camcorder app. i installed an app called LGCAMERA from playstore and problem solved!

However, there is a problem with the phone, and it is not the phone. The Android 2.3.6 freezes often, and the update to 4.0 is still not available in my country (Macedonia). No, the One Touch OT-995 Ultra dose not have Gorilla Glass. Jest regular glass. My advice is to use protected plastic screen protector, and to BABY YOUR PHONE FROM ANY DAMAGES and SCRATCHES as I am doing, as I want my ph to last a good long time. As to the memory problem, look up on your manual to go to the SD MEMORY CARD to put more stuff on it. Each carrier has different methods to doing that. But it dose work. My Alcatel One Touch OT-995 Ultra, is such a dream of a smartphone to use for me. I don't ask of it more then it should be doing for me. For it's good price, this PH deserves babying......:�)

Like if u check your computer's Hard Drive or any storage media , Available memoary is noT that written on it. suppose you have 80 GB hard drive in computer nearly 76 Gb would be available for use. Same is the case of RAM and ROM here and in every fone.

In my experience with Generic Charger for OT995 the OUTPUT or SEC spec is the Key.. must be 5v and at least 550mA ...if 1000mA it definitely seems to me to Charge it Faster. ..but any Charger below 550mA only Charge from 3%..and if below that will not bring your OT back to Life

The perfect phone for its price! I was able to upgrade it to ICS from official Alcatel software upgrader instead of root, cm, etc. It works flawlessly! Battery is a little weak though. Else, highly recommended. Keep it up Alcatel/ TCL!

As far as I know, and believe me I've searched quite a lot, there are no accessories available, but I found out that the HTC Sensation XL's cover almost perfectly matches (mind you, the volume rocker and usb port are blinded) As for a screen protection, any Samsung Galaxy SII screen protector will do, or better yet one of those universal thingies that you cut down to size.

Just a wee hint about CHARGING the Alcatel OT-995...if you like using a generic Charger to enjoy USB Extension flexibility then I hope you not make the same mistake as ME. ..I thought a Charger were a Charger until now.. the Alcatel one will Charge from Stone Dead but the Generic one's need 3% of Battery Life or the whole thing gets Dead as if the AC Pac has blown! ! ...now after a few Days of the Battery staying Cold it made me think of throwing my Phone out.. 2 problems with my OT-995: 1. It restarts on it's own. Less times in the begining but now it's often 2. It has a screen resolution problem wich can only be observed while using the camera or when it's a one color background ( like when I open Skype or GooglePlay it can only be seen in the downside area close to the 4 android buttons). This phone is absolutely incredible for the price compared to similar phones that cost 3 times more.The GPS on it spun me out when it showed the view of the front of my place and I could spin around and see and see what is around me. You guys are probably used to all this technology but to me it is a miracle gadget.I would most certainly recommend it to anyone whether they are on a budget like me or not.I find the weather forecast handy as well as the fact that the internet etc. is already set up to go. After Upgrade to ICS v. 4.0.4 WIFI-Tethering with WPA-encrpytion fails! It only works without encryption - it's not recommended to use this mode. This problem also exists on several other smartphones using ICS.

I think the phone has to updates twice (as stated by Alcatels official site). Once for the highest grade of GB (2.3.6) and the second time for ICS 4.0.4. But if you said it kept re-installing GB on your device then you might have a problem...

I had that trouble with my OT995 ... OS remains 2.3.6 and that was lasting for more than a month. Even through the wifi updating by the phone itself but yet. However, 10 days ago , I tried to update it with wifi process and it worked. My new OS is 4.0.4 now and very happy with it. The options are useful and the GSM signal became more strong. Keep away from using the update with ur pc. Only by the mobile itself and it will work. Mohammad from KSA

Hi, In Australia & just bought OT 995 from Dick Smith's for $199. Have been trying for a few days to upgrade to ICS and found good info on this forum. Trouble downloading as it kept freezing on 83% download. Eventually deleted and went to Alcatel support Followed advice and used FOTA on WiFi & eventually succeeded. As I had not downloaded any extra apps or used the phone I did not back up and just installed. On restart all I had was time and ability to power off !! Stupid me !! Went back to Alcatel support and followed instructions for Factory reset with phone in Shutdown state. Another big mistake as after this all I have is a dead phone - android icon on back with red triangle. Can anyone help me please or have I gone too far down the track of no return??

There are certain things about the 997 I find odd though. The video quality (on Youtube at least) is worse than the 995 and the CPU might be weaker. (Snapdragon vs MTK) i'm not sure about that though.

Have you installed the Alcatel Android Manager on your PC? The drivers are there, I think. Mine doesn't have this problem. If the problem still persist back up your data and do a factory reset. Resetting is suggested in some forums after upgrade to ICS to clean up the phone's system which may be causing some conflicts.

In your SD card, create a folder named Ringtones and put your mp3 there. Then go to Setting>Sound Settings>Phone Ringtones, you will find it there. If it still doesn't appear, unmount then mount your SD card under Settings>SD Card and Phone Storage>Unmount SD Card (no need to physically unmount/mount the card). (Make sure that the folder is correctly named)

Anyway even if it becomes available I won't update my phone as I've seen many complaints from people not being able to root ICS on this device. You will lose the 3D launcher when you upgrade to ICS. Maybe they removed it since it was eating a lot of RAM, thus random reboots. Just go to Settings>About Phone>Software Update. If it is available to your country, a pop-up message will inform you of firmware update and if ICS, will tell you you will lose your 3D launcher.

Today I got the German ICS update, finally. I used "ONE TOUCH Upgrade Q 2.5.8". The regular WLAN update option didn't offer the update. If you want to be sure really to get the ICS (and not the 2.3.6 again) you can use "ONE TOUCH Upgrade Q 2.5.7" which produces the log file "otuq_log.txt" in the program path. There you can see if server version and device version are really different, and stop the process if not. In the past I unplugged my phone during the download-internet-to-pc-phase if the versions were the same. The ICS update download size was ~2 Gigabyte, encrypted and deleted immediately after the process.

I did the ICS update as follows (on my Ubuntu-Linux, but it might work the same way on a Windows-PC as well). I did not have to root it. Please note that there always is the possibility to brick your phone so be sure you know what you are doing! Sources: Step1: Downloaded the official android SDK from Google Step2: Downloaded the right CWM recovery version from ot995-cyanogenmod According to the Wiki from this project the right file for Alcatel stock ROM is cwm_cocktail_stock_20120609.zip You will find the Wiki for flashing here Step3: Downloaded the french ICS image from Steps to Update Step1: Install android SDK Step2: Make sure the fastboot command is in the /plattform-tools folder and make sure your phone is being recognized correctly by your PC (sudo ./fastboot devices; in Windows there are special USB drivers you can install via Android SDK using android in the /tools folder) Step3: If you have used Fota in your phone please read and delete leftover files (you have to root your phone for that) I wiped my phone before ICS update to avoid rooting it by using the official alcatel update software under Windows Step4: Unzip the CWM recovery image into the plattform-tools folder (this makes it easier) Step5: boot your linux device according to the CWM-Wiki into CWM recovery (I did not have to flash it and it is not recommended to flash it) with sudo ./fastboot boot cwm_cocktail_stock_20120609.img (fastboot has to be run as root) then connect the phone when it is off to the PC press volume down and power on until the boot screen is showing release it and it will boot into cwm recovery please note: it took a couple of times until i had the right timing Step6: backup your phones image by using cwm recovery. cwm recovery is a bit tricky to navigate since there are a couple of "no"s that you have to skip until you get to "yes" Step7: boot into your stock rom (use the cwm recovery option) and check whether you have a backup on your sd card (it should be under /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup; there should be a folder with a timestamp-name like yyyy-MM-dd.hh.mm.ss Step8: unzip the french ICS zip file (it contains a folder) onto your sd card under /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup or copy the unziped folder there Step9: rename the folder into 2012-10-13.00.00.00 (as steffeson said) Step10: power off your phone and boot again into cwm recovery according to step 5 Step11: use the recovery option from cwm recovery and choose the 2012-10-13.00.00.00 folder Step12: use the wipe data option from cwm recovery to wipe data Step13: use the boot into rom option to boot. At first it will take some time to boot. For me this worked.

Amazing phone ,especially for it's price. I did some photo and video tests on youtube and i'm impressed with how the 995 handles HD video. Only downside is some of the bloatware that you can't uninstall but by using a task killer I have kept this little (or big),gem nice and snappy.

Hi was reading a lot of stuff on how to get ics on the phone, thought I had it sussed out, so download the alcatel update software from their website, and connected the phone to laptop, then did the upgarde to2.3.6, then started it up again, great worked so connected again thing this would upgarde to the ics version, said doing upgarde, said succesfull, but after turning on and setting up for the second time, thought |i check the version but not ICS but still gingerbread most ignoying, any ideas as I am in Uk, and phone hasn't been released here. so the one touch upgarde software is the only way as no OTA updates. Also it is the same spec hardware wise cpu and ram as the sony ericsson arc s, but with a front camera, which I use to own, yet does anyone else noticed it locks up, also you got wait bout 5 seconds for it to start to open webpages, and signal on phone and wi-fi is patchy at best?

Steffeson please help. I already done CWM on my phone according to Serbian page with the flash bat that they provide. But now when i try to enter CWM recovery with command prompt on my pc while the phone is connected with the PC and turn on, I type adb reboot-bootloader and then says that adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Also when phone is off i press the volume up and power button but then turns up the little green android men with the package for 3-4 seconds and after that the phone restarts please tell me what is the problem, and how to enter CWM recovery to make backup and to complete the upgrade to ICS thanks upfront.

I had the same issue too. Got into CWM mode by runing boot.bat from the cwm_cocktail_stock folder (the phone must be in recovery mode vol-down+power). Then u unpack OT995_4.0.4-FR.zip (4 files in it) into the memory card. And u restore that image from the CWM backup/restore. Hope that helps u (worked for me at least).

Hi again, a friend of mine had the same problem, he went back into CWM RECOVERY and did the WIPE/RESET again and then recovered the FRENCH_ICS one more time and everything worked just fine after that? Or else connect to OTA via computer and do an "UPDATE" wich is actually a FACTORY RESET, and then ROOT, CWM FLASH again and then RECOVER FRENCH_ICS and do the WIPE CASH/FACTORY RESET and see if that works.. It sounds to me that your ICS recovery installation didn't really install 100% correct, look trough my guides again and follow the steps.. ROOT, CWM FLASH then ICS RECOVERY and WIPE/RESET.. Could mean a lot, i'm not at all familiar with the OT-995A version and don't actually know if there is some differense in hardware/software compared to my OT-995 from Sweden.. But read a few posts below and there's a post from "Ozzy" a guy from Australia, he followed my instructions on how to install ICS and it worked for him, ask him if there's something he did different than you with the installation? But the "How To Install ICS" should workout the same on all the OT-995's all over the world?!?! @alec Hi, did you do the WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET in CWM after you've restored your OT-995 with French_ICS? The problem of startupscreen freeze after French_ICS restore is often that people forgett to WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET in CWM.. HEY Steffesson! your awesome and i would first like to thank you for all your help all the way from AUSTRALIA for helping me get ICS on my phone it has helped LOADS! much quicker and responsive and smooth now! but i just have one minor issue!!! I rooted it on gingerbread. followed your steps to root it on gingerbread and it worked great using SUPERONECLICK and alcapwn. but now on ICS it seems to be unrooted and when i try to use SUPERONECLICK and alcapwn to root it it hangs on step #3 or Step #7. I love the new ICS but very disappointed i can only play around 5 mins of good games like shadowgun and it "unexpectedly closes". they seem to work okay at first and then die. PLEASE HELP! would be much appreciated! thank mate!!

HEELLPP!! can someone PLEASE help me out. I have the alcatel OT-995 and used to run on gingerbread till around 3 days ago. my phone was previously rooted but then i installed the french version of ICS 4.0 using the steps provided in the previous comments. Since my update the phone is working ALOT better alot more responsive and ICS is pretty smooth and fast. However now i try to use SETCPU and other progs they dont work and it says my phone is not rooted. I used SUPERONECLICK + alcapwn when i rooted on gingerbread but now i try to do the same it does not root.And superoneclick hangs on step #3 or step #7 Its SUPPERR FRUSTRATING! plllleassee HELPP!! ASAP!! will be much much appreciated!

The French_ICS rom contains many languages not only French so try it out.. All the other roms to OT-995 that are stock is the same as this one when they hit your country, the only thing that may change is that fr some country their language will be supported an some countries language may not be supported in the French_ICS

Hi guys, i'm now gonna step down a bit from this "forum" becouse i'm selling my OT-995, i only bought it because i needed an extra phone while my Samsung Galaxy S II was on service but now when it's back and rockin' again plus that i also got a Samsung Galaxy S III the OT-995 seems kind of unnecessary to me.. But i'll check in here from time to time but not everyday that i've been doing so far but once or twice a week and see if anyone need my help.. Remember to read a few posts back if you got questions on how to ROOT, CWM FLASH, INSTALL ICS etc because it's all there.. You're welcome! But i hope you did that so importante backup of your 2.3.6 system first becouse there are some issues with ICS that could make you wanna go back to it again and await Android JB 4.1, but not everyone experience these faults with there OT-995 and ICS.. The problems are unwanted reeboots/freezes and overheating, only a few reported those problem so i hope ICS works just fine for you.. I'm testing JB 4.1 on my OT-995 at this very moment but it aint a solid everyday rom quite yet and it still needs some modifications to work properly, but as soon as it does i'll post here in this forum how to install it on a OT-995.. //Steffeson

Android 2.3.6 supports video calls but it seems it ain't a built in function in the OT-995, try to use Google Talk to make video calls.. Or download a video call app, there are lots of free video call apps you can use to make video calls.. Or you may consider updating your OT-995 to ICS.. Good Luck!

Sorry, but JB 4.1 is not avaliable for OT-995 at all and Alcatel is doubtfully to release it for OT-995 i think, but fortunatily there is a JB 4.1 developing at this very moment, a did see some really nice screenshoots of the OT-995 JB 4.1 earlier today and it looked really good, according to the developers they're almost done with the JB 4.1 for OT-995 and a ROM release should be on the way shortly.. You can not update to ICS 4.0.4 via FOTA or One Touch Upgrade if you aren't living in France offcourse, you have to downloaded the modded French ICS 4.0.4 and then boot into CWM or best flash CWM to your OT-995 and then make a backup of your 2.3.6 and then copy the French ICS 4.0.4 to phone and then boot again to CWM and do a restore from the French ICS 4.0.4.. I did not use the official update service BUT i used the official French ICS 4.0.4 version for OT-995 from a clean CWM-backup where the ICS 4.0.4 version is changed to work with the 2.3.6 bootloader version and restored my OT-995 with it and it worked.. :D

Same thing happened to me yesterday, but I think that One Touch Upgrade didn't downgrade the phone, just renamed the current version back to 2.3.6 without removing the FOTA update you made. How do I know? because when I bought this phone with 2.3.6, whenever I plug in or out the earphones, the screen wouldn't turn on (it wasn't a feature in this ver.), I updated via FOTA to 2.3.6 010 06 and this feature was there. Then, I thought I'd check for ICS via OTU, I let it download and waited for the process to finish, when I powered on the phone it was still on GB and worse back to 2.3.6 :( Then I plugged in earphones and what do you know, screen turns on! Meaning that it's still on the same FOTA ver.

Hi, Been testing everything multiplytimes now in The ICS 4.0.4 on my OT-995 and so far there are just two "faults" i've detected.. 1. When the phone is in standby mode and you click the powerbutton to light up the screen and the "startup screen" comes up it tells you there is NO SERVICE witch is quite funny becouse when i unlock the screen and the i've got full service from networkprovider and everything is working?! (Just a minor cosmetic problem to me anyway) 2. When the phone has been in standbymode for a while it has now two times shut itself off, and i've been forced to startup the phone again.. I'll get back to this problem if it continues and if so i'll try to fix it.. Hi again, The moment of truth was a PERFECT ICS 4.0.4 installation on my Alcatel OT-995 Ultra and everything seems to work just fine and incredibly smooth.. The French ICS 4.0.4 version wasn't a complete multilanguage version but it atleast contained English and that's fine for me anyway.. Gonna keep you updated on how ICS 4.0.4 runs after i've checked the whole system out, but it looks perfectly good now i can tell you at a first glims of it.. :D See ya later!!

Hi guys, I've just flashed CWM to my OT-995 so that in a coold startup holding UP VOLUME BUTTON + POWERBUTTON at the same time the OT-995 boots into CWM (ClockWorkMod).. I then did a backup of my 2.3.6 Android system and i'm now gonna do a restore from the French OT-995 ICS-version and see how that works out.. For info the French ICS-version is multilanguage so for me who is Swedish it should not be a problem.. Let you now later how it worked out for me.. :)

My ROOTED OT-995 Ultra with Android 2.3.6 - 010 06 is working perfectly without any overheating, reeboots, turnoffs or forceclosed apps so far?!?! I've cleaned out the system from stock apps and the builtin antivirus + 3D launcher etc and gained more free RAM becouse of that.. :) The phone is so good for the money that i enjoy using the OT-995 more than my Galaxy S2 becouse of that.. :D A very good phone, really recommend it!!

Hi Rajesh, I have been using this phone since a month now. For its price the specs are superb and so is the handling, camera, interface. However the phone erratically hangs, reboots. Battery charging is also erratic thus washing away the price benefit that I got while I bought this phone. To my surprise the phone suddenly switched off couple of days back and is not starting since then neither does the battery recharge. My handset could be the one bad one out of thousand good handsets! but you never know ! I would suggest you better think twice before you buy this model. Samsung Duos could be a better choice at an additional price but it assures peace of mind.

Hi, i've been using my OT-995 for like 3 weeks now in ROOTED mode and with a cleaned system from all the shity stock apps and i haven't had any problems what so ever with the device.. I also got a Galaxy S2 that offcourse is much better than the OT-995 but i compare them anyway and i must say that the OT-995 surprices and is really really good considering i only payed 1000 SEK (144,43 USD) at the reseller.. I defenitly recomend the OT-995..

This phone is a BLAST! I think it is the best value for money. Yet, it has its flaws... Like, it starts lagging and than restarts on nearly every game, once you play more than 15-20 minutes. And the known heating problem. But all in all, I would recommend it to everyone. It has this great HD video, the camera is awesome, it has good sound quality and... IT's screen is HUGE and very responsive. Cheers to all owners!

Uhm... the front camera is a bit dark when u used in a room with a minimum or one source of light... though when you using it in a super lit room it could be pretty much decent... its also great when used using natural light.... :))

Go into SETTINGS, ABOUT THE PHONE and STATUS.. There you can se what version you've got, i should say 010 ?? something.. About the updating, one time is enough until they release a new update then you can choose to update via your OT-995 or USB.. The thing with USB and that it always updates trough it is becouse when you do that you get a complete STOCK ROM INSTALLATION/UPDATE from the newest version released, remember to always unmount your SD-card or your apps, backups and settings are deleted.. Also a god way to reinstall the phone if you ain't got a backup and played around with root and the system to much ending up with a not fully functional android system..

I UNROOTED today and updated my OT-995 via USB and ONE TOUCH Upgrade Q 2.5.7 and are now running 2.3.6 010 06 ROOTED it again and installed ROOT UNINSTALLER and viped some stock apps that really sucks.. Runs really nice now and without a bunch of useless stock apps, changed the bootanimation to.. :)

Update your OT-995 via the computer with your USB-cable instead with ONE TOUCH Upgrade Q 2.5.7.. But if your phone is ROOTED you might get problem updating it, so UNROOT it before you update.. It worked for me anyway.. :)

It's super easy to root the OT-995, just download and run SuperOneClickv2.3.3 as ADMIN and select ALCAPWN under EXPLOIT MENU to the right in the program and then just click ROOT.. DONE!! Same proceedure to UNROOT the OT-995! :D

Wifi connectivity is not good... its not reliable.. everytime i browse I always get error and disconnection I have to keep on refreshing the page before it actually goes through. this also happens on any apps that connects through wifi such as Google Play or Youtube .. it just keeps on loading and does nothing you have to refresh it or reload it. .. it lags alot .. and battery drains fast and also you can see the led light below the phone where the HDMI connector is.. you can see it through the display even at night .. when you look at the sides of the display you can see light from the back leaking through .. and on the right side bar of the phone when you press it .. you can feel the metal bending .. the build is not solid.. theres no quality I did regret buying this phone.. I was suppose to buy Samsung Galaxy S2 but got attracted on alcatel because of the price is cheap... now I know . .even though Samsung is expensive at least I will get a good quality phone

I have bought alcatel ot-995 three months ago an I am very surprised. Design is very elegant and graphic is very good. The Processor works very good, but RAM is 512 MB and sometimes if you has Skype or other performance needed programs at working, there is a deadlock, so that you are forced to take the battery out and insert in again in order make it working again. I don't know if there is a solution to insert more RAM in it. The another problem is the rooting. I have googled and not found any program for rooting this model.

I have had this for a few months now, locked to Comviq in Sweden. Great phone for a great price, fantastic screen size and quality. Performance of Apps and most games is excellent. Root is possible, just Google it. There is a BIG problem with the screen turning off and not being able to turn it back on again unless you remove the battery, the phone is still on but screen doesn't display anything, battery pull is only solution. Battery is OK but not great, if you want to play mp3s all day you need to walk around with a charger. Also battery can drain faster than it can charge, so if you are playing a game with the phone plugged in, you can still drain the battery. If the battery drains and it shuts off, it doesn't work as soon as you plug it in, you need to wait like 5min before turning it on. Comes with OT launcher and default Android launcher, OT launcher is very cool but needs lots of memory and CPU because of all the fancy animations, switch to standard Android for better performance.

Just bought myself one yesterday, so far using it has been a delight; throw anything at it and it works. It's really up there with the likes of SGS2 and the iPhone 4S. There are a couple of things that are bugging me though, one is the battery life, I hardly got a day out of it with average usage (video playback, web browsing, music playback), although I guess the battery doesn't reach full efficiency til after a few charges. Another thing is the audio, the volume through the speaker at the back, as well as the earphones with the volume turned up to maximum, is on the low side. I downloaded Poweramp from Google Play and it sure made a difference. Last thing is Adobe Flash, the device supports flash however mine didn't get it preloaded and I couldn't download it from the store (location issues), eventually I found a downloadable apk at Adobe's official site. Other than that, the phone is really good and I'd recommend it to anyone on a tight budget.

How I solved the problem with Wi-Fi: enter the setings on your home router (mine is a T-home router), then the WLAN interface information, then radio setings in the left corner and there in the default mode is 802.11 n + b + g untick it and instead to tick 802.11 b + g and then apply and that's it. I have it for two days, and it is a very good phone (best for the money). I recommend to install Go Launcher or some other(more free RAM comparing to the default Launcher). So if you don't like to spend a lot of money for the phone, go for OT-995. I have only 2 cons.: light from the bottom of the phone is slightly visible on a when the screen is black and I have some impression that the scrolling is not perfectly smooth. Of course,some higher class phones like ONE X, Galaxy SIII, iPhone 4S might be better, butt they are 3 times more expensive than 995.

I am from Macedonia too. This is very good phone, much more better than HTC Decire C, One V, Xperia Arch S, LG Optimus L5.... I have this phone 3 mounths and i haven't any problems. This phone has problems with WI-FI conectivity only with Speedport routers from T-Home Macedonia, but only if wireless encription from router is in WPA2. If you change the wireless encription in router settings in WPA the problem is solved.

For who is asking about shooting video with flash. Use software called lgcamera (LGCAMERA). And set the esolution to 720 and in lash opion set it to Always flash. You can also by this software save mpeg And the camera is much way better than the Nokia you mentioned.

Relianc digital will just direct you to service centre thats all.After changing the mother board the problem was there still. The leftout thing was to change the SIM (vodafone). I changed it & now its working fine without restarts. Its a good phone worth the money, except for the RAM. Only some 50 to 60 MB are available so sometimes hangs during gaming. But still I like this phone

The problem didn't stp here. Finally i changed the sim card itself. Then the restart problem stopped. But still it has some issues with RAM

i have had no trouble with the wifi. and i can't update to ics atm. maybe because i have to download a Alcatel upgrade app over all a good phone have not found a app i can't run smoothly. sometime i have to clean ram to get them to work otherwise it works fine. the actually ram you can use is different from 512mb and is more like 380mb. it could just be my phone i don't know.

Got the phone yesterday for only PhP11,990 at the Alcatel kiosk at SM Megamall (Philippines). So far so good. Firmware is already 2.3.6. I'm not having problems connecting with the wifi router(WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK). A lot of bloatwares are pre-installed and quite a number are running in the background, but I am not noticing significant lag inspite of this. Tinkered a lot with it last night to set it up, customize, browse and install apps. Still has 50% battery til this morning. Nice big screen, snappy interface and decent battery life. Happy with it =)

I dont think i want to update to ICS. Ever since i updated my Sony Tablet S to ICS ive been plagued by Wi-fi connection problems, while my Alcatel and my wife's (she has the OT-990) has no problem connecting, apart from router issues, and both are on Gingerbread. And ICS is no big deal anyway, its Jellybean that offers real performance and i kinda doubt we are going to get it when ICS update has been so long comming.

Wi-fi connection says connecting then disconnects. I solved it by the following ways. 1. Go to settings>W & n>Wi-fi settings> Go to advanced settings buy pressing function button on handset & goto advanced settings.Check use static IP. 2. Give IP address & fill all the details as per your router settings. 3. Turn on wi-fi & click connect (put password). 4. If it still doesn't connect the go to router settings thru your Internet explorer (by typing //192.168.1.1/, Admin..admin..) add the mobiles MAC address (u can see it in page where u did the IP settings). Connect again. 5. Wi-fi works fine now /india

you dont have to buy new router right away. you can go to the store, for example amc, and try it there and if it works than buy it, or in some caffe or some place where they have free wireless so you can try if it works on their wi-fi. about the router settings i know hoe to get there but i dont understand how to configure it, maybe there is some option that has to be turned on or off, but i dont know that. hope you will fix this problem

Hi guys i have found another great app to speed up your phone. Its called Speed Boost System Cleaner. You can actually increase your CPU speed! My Alcatel is like running like at warp speed, touch screen is more responsive now. Forget RAM booster apps that dont really work this app is the real deal.

try it with a different router. first i had a tp link router and i also had troubles with the wi-fi. than i changet it with a cisco router and i no longer have any problems, it works great. i guess it is in the settings of the router but i don`t understand that so much to adjust it. also at work we use wi-fi and i have never experienced any trouble with that router, i don`t know the model of the router, it is one from t-home that comes with the internet package. so i suggest trying it with another router or if you have the knowledge you can try changing the settings of the router. hope this helps you

I am from Macedonia, got this phone about two monts ago, and it is beautifull. Wi-Fi works good, at work i have an wi-fi adaper tp-link and i might say it works as well as the adapter maybe even better. it supports flash, it is very fast and i love the big screen. Sound is great. I havent got any problems with it. also if you bay it in Macedonia, bay it from one because is 40euro cheaper than vip and comes with 4GB card. the phone is great and i reccomend it very much.

Yes, live wallpapers work but it uses up alot more RAM and drains battery faster. I felt like throwing my phone in bin with all the freezing and white screens. Using a custom home launcher like Lightning Launcher solved this problem. Unfortunately, 512 RAM is not enough RAM for a 1Ghz phone and i have to kill a few processes to play most 3D games like Temple Run without lag. I'm still waiting for Icecream update or hopefully Jellybean like everyone else.

The default launcher makes the phone slow and laggy. Get Lightning Launcher from Google Play. It will make your phone run like greased butter. It supports live wallpapers too but it uses up more RAM. Also get Fast Reboot. It soft reboots your phone and frees up RAM. Get Advanced Wifi Lock free. This will fix Wifi connectivity. I hope this helps people.

what kind of split second delay are you talking about? like when you unlock the screen? if so, i havent experienced such..unlocking the screen after timeout is the same as the other smartphones, the delay isnt that observable since it's not that long.

it seems you're the not only one who've not been able to update the phone to the latest firmware? i'm not actually sure why is that so..but when i finished updating it just says - gingerbread 2.3.6 update1 or update01. i only did the upgrade right after reading there's an update and tried it on the phone...checked the update through settings section, and it says one is present so i updated..if you still can't update, you can do it manually..xda is a good forums and if it's still there, u can see how others updated it using the pc :3

There is no info here in the specs that the handset has HDMI tv out port, which is an exceptional feature in this price range and at the same time, huge left out by GSM arena. xperia arc s and alcatel ot-995 almost the same price. arc s has better back camera, better screen but has no front camera. I do use often skype video calling to get in touch with friends and family. such an inconvenience to turn phone around now and then to view the person you are talking to. arc s would have been my phone if it had a front camera.

well i dont think it's just a matter of luck..the day i bought the phone, i had everything i needed tried out first..especially skype coz it's one of the important things i needed on the phone..we dl-ed it at googleplay and it says the device is compatible..after doing so, i tried logging in to my account..wat greeted me was a notification saying that the phone can support video call but is actually not verified by skype of how it will work..something of this sort came up when i first logged in..i just clicked OK and enabled video calling on the next prompt..i dint touch anything except the "start automatically" selection for i dont want skype to automatically start when i use it :3 i seldom use skype on my phone since i only contact my boyf during the night when im using the laptop..anyway, i tried it before i sent this reply to you and it actually works well :3 he just complained about the clarity being way off, but other than that, it works fine..urs is also the first one i heard of skype not functioning (in terms of video call) on this unit..myb u have a defective one? PS: sorry for the misspelled words, i was shortening them on purpose.. :D

I have to say the phone is great. hmmm i mean for the value of(...converting.....)around $317 here in the PH or so.. i am really enjoying the phone's usability. it's large display is quite impressive, unlike my sister's Galaxy II worth around $604 which is also very impressive, LED display is "cooler" to the eyes than the oversaturated AMOLED display. yeah for real. I love that it is still great under the sun's glare = screen legibility (v)check... Internet browsing is fast! Ability to replace home icons with apps from the app market. SPB shell 3D launcher always impress people, it's for free out of the box. has shazam.. palringo.. antivirus already installed. Camera and Video recording is awesome especially during the day. Comparing it to my old phone, which i sold due to being bored already with it, the specs of 1.4 Ghz CPU speed, 512 (around 300+ actual) RAM, 2 Gb internal ROM, 5 MP Cam with flash, the phone is already up there with such contenders as the Galaxy's and the Iphone. My bro has an Iphone and i can brag that i have more fun with mine too. (we also have SIRi- SKYvi! which really works!) Things that i just dislike about it are: Front camera is not that great, it is kinda dark if there is no good light source when u take pictures. No Hardware button for Camera, i get annoyed with trying to guess where the virtual button is(i downloaded BIG Camera Button in App Market)..also disliking occasional "lagginess" once battery is less than around 40-30%. Yah the battery doesn't last for more than a day.. well on a routinary call-text heavy use. (and even more if u use WIFI alot) but most phones nowadays are like that...I'd hope it had battery muscle (1500 mAh is the usual standard). Huawei HONOR has 1950 mAh, i just wonder how that would work.. overall i love my phone 3.9 out of 5. hehehe. i hope this is helpful. I hope gsmarena makes a review already!

I did read them. But Alcatel wrote me " None of our phones can support such Skype." I know Alcatel OT-995 has 1.4 GHz. But it;s about the chipset.. Is it ARM7 Neon chipset? Anyways.. I'm from the Netherlands and they sale this phone. And people could write their experience and some people also wrote that Skype works but NO Video. For some reason it was disabled. I think that Alcatel should step forward and make a clear Video with features. The never do that.. They only show the spb shell 3d interface but not what else this phone can support and what not. I like the OT-991D but also it does not support Skype Video Calls even tho it has dual camera.. Strange to bring out a phone in 2012 with a chipset that does not even support Skype Video Calls 2012 phone should at least have a ARM7 chipset. The OT-995 is much better than honor as it has bigger screen,hdmi output,same specs,bluetooth v3.0,better UI and is around 60euro cheaper.Only the camera is 5mp unlike honor's 8mp.I've also heard that honor has many hardware problems!

well i actually tried skype on my phone over wifi before actually purchasing it. all we did was download the app from googleplay..enable video calling, and it works just fine..even using it to video call my bf every now and then..a bit unstable using data connectivity tho but it works just fine :)

Well, it's been 3 weeks with this thing in my pocket, but a few days ago i noticed a "stuck pixel" on the screen, unfortunately. So i guess the price is right for the equipment they used to build it. The pixel though, not very noticable, only in the bright colors you can see it. I don't think the warranty would even cover it, they'll just send me the phone saying "nothing's wrong with it". So i won't even try. I am still satisfied with my purchase actually. I won't allow this small thing to bug me.

Wifi-connection is fine as it performs the same like Samsung Nexus S. Camera is in my opinion working fine. The buttons are a a little bit difficult to press but on the other hand it is also not nice when the're to easy to press. Overall this phone is compared to it's price a real bargain!

I'm disappointed with the phone, it looked promissing but after two weeks i'm selling it. The RAM is not 512MB, the phone shows something like 310MB(!?), when you open foursquare or some other cpu consuming app the phone get's hot as hell and it starts restarting. The restarting happens randomly, even when my phone is in my pocket, and quite often when i try to unlock it, the screen is black, buttons are glowing and then it restarts. I'm assuming that has something to do with the firmware but there is no update at the moment. The battery with normal usage last just one day, and the when you talk with someone you think the person is in a wine cellar. I really like the big screen, but it's not worth the compromise. If someone doesn't care about these things, i'm selling mine, send me an e-mail ;)

I reticently bought the phone, so this is what I think: Rumors are: bad battery, bad WiFi connecting. 5 days of battery (after 3-4 charging), WiFi - 600Mb download speed on free public network,... THE PHONE IS EXCELLENT FOR THE PRICE AND FOR THAT IS OFFERING, you have much more expensive phones that are not offering nothing more and nothing special. Speed is nice I can say that I was expecting much more sallower, just use GoLauncher or AWN, (just because I like them, and I think that they are much more useful). Bad side??? AUDIO OUTPUT IS SILENT AND POWER ON/OFF BUTTON ON A BAD PLACE - not practical.

This is not true, or rather the Optimus Madrid really exists but the mobile phone is fantastic. Well worth the price they asked for it and, in fact comparable to other similar equipments more expensives, as the SonyEricsson Xperia Arc, the phone is equal (except in the screen where the Arc wins). The features and fluidity of the equipment are very well achieved highly recommend. I Have already one :)

You actually dont have to install anything in your pc. You can just use your phone as a mass storage device and your pc will just see it as an external drive. If you dont want to use the usb cable, you can connect via wifi. Just click on android manager in the phone and type the url indicated to your pc browser.

I was bought this today morning for test Optimus network version of software.I'M not agree with that.Many problems,lots of diseases,his camera and video quality are very poor,the quality of the display is the worst display ever, i tested.Is not Amoled an it have a very low resolution.When you record a concert or something like that the soum is very bad,you don't know if its music ou only a fragmented noises.For me HTC One S is better than this.And pay atention with his RAM.The processor don't run well because it is a single core.

One thing I noticed is that the interface is a split second slower than my other 1gb single core android phone (moto defy+). Its not noticeable when texting or browsing but you see the difference when playing temple run or draw something. Its not laggy but you notice the split second delay, which could mean life or death in temple run. It also makes drawing in draw something a bit harder as the lines play catchup to your finger. Aside from this, everything else is peachy. This is a nice top of the line but still affordable phone for alcatel.

I bought the Handset from DARTY in Paris. It costed 209 Euros and in addition to that Alcatel gives a 30 Euro Rebate. So the actual cost of the Mobile Phone is 179 Euros only. Its just the start. For that price the Mobile Phone works exceedingly well. Be it the A-GPS, tooks a few mins the first time I set it up, or the installation or uninstallation. The Camera is good but not that good. It has a nice touch and feel for that price. The best part was the battery. Wifi was On all night and still it could do well in the morning. Took around 16 hrs to drain the battery. I Vote this Phone BEST of this CATEGORY (Price).

On April 17 I received my OT-995. The phone looks very good and has a different look than Samsung or HTC. It modest and businesslike to me. Screen is big and responsive. Not as bright or detailed as a Samsung. It comes with Android 2.2 and works at it should. The extra rotating skin has no added value. Camera OK. Sounds better than my old HD2. Sounds really good.It has a small flashlight that indicates messages. For the price this seems to be real competition! Find one and test it yourself!

The 995 Ultra runs very smoothly even with 3D games and the HD videos look really sharp on the LED TVs trough DLNA, and it's really light!!!

It's 512RAM, it will be able to upgrade to ICS soon after launch. The device is quite nice, I tried it in 3GSM ALCATEL booth, the 3D UI is very interesting, and it's used Snapdragon processor with 1.4Ghz, the system runs very smooth. 9.7mm thickness is not the slimest one in the world, but it's fairy good for entry level smartphone. I like the 4.3" display, color is very natural. AMOLED color is too "fake" for me. looking forwards to the device to be launched soon, should be very price competative. :P

Phone's going to get Android 4.0 ICS in the middle of 2012. 995 Ultra has 512MB RAM. The release should be in two weeks in france for 249 �uro.
