Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 - User Reviews

  • piece of crap now as fios cannot be loaded as os is not compatible even with update from amazon. is this not an android device!!!! f*** verizon

  • This device was nigh useless with the stock OS. I unlocked the bootloader, rooted it, and installed LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1.2) for a much improved experience. The device is now running BOINC projects in the background, but won't run ABCore with 1GB RAM. With notification and navigation bars hidden using Nova Launcher, an app that keeps the screen on at all times, and a homescreen weather widget, it's Velcroed to the fridge for a quick look at weather as I make breakfast, or to display recipes as I cook. See: Would not recommend this for everyday or casual gaming use. Pausing BOINC and browsing the web with Chrome Beta, even with as lean as LineageOS is, is sluggish. Performance is sufficient for displaying a recipe in the kitchen, but inadequate for browsing the web. Surprisingly, it does a passable job of playing 720p YouTube videos, but 1080p will be choppy. The stereo speakers aren't super loud, but you can connect it to Bluetooth speakers or use the 3.5mm audio jack.
