  • As a 13 year old in 2019 the iPhone 5 isn’t that great... But after using it for 2 years it still holds up to its original glory. The sad thing is that my iPhone 5 is starting to wear down after 7 years of service. My phone’s charge port is starting to get a bit worn out and the battery isn’t long enough to last a whole day anymore. RIP iPhone 5 one of the most memorable phones in history as it was the last phone in the Steve Jobs era.

  • Legendary device though, perfect size and width, easy to carry, 4G supported, excellent battery time lasts a day easily and half day with 4G data enabled, dont support latest apps and upgrades but still an awsome device to have, the best part of iPhone 5 is its black colour which has not been introduced in any other iPhone model till now. Peace.

  • I'm using it for three years and it's an amazing phone. That design make it look modern for 2019. The only problem is the software update. iPhone 5 isn't compatible with newer iOS version. The last update is iOS 10.3.4 launched this year. On the gaming don't done it very well, but i played GTA 3 and GTA LCS on it and it works perfect, almost cannot see the lag. For an old phone these games runs too good. Facebook, YouTube and Messenger works good, it sems some lag but it's very usable, Instagram works perfectly for me. I use Safari for browsing and it's does it's job, i never have a problem with it. Wifi works relatively good but you need to stay aproach to the router to works perfect. On the mobile data with 4G is more faster than Wifi. Some apps in the App Store will not run on iOS 10 but the most will work. Battery life isn't relatively poor, i have 1300 mAh because of the wear level and it's last good. For more features i wanted to recommend jailbreak but it's crap. I jailbreak once and anytime i get in Safe Mode, with or without installing tweaks and to remove it you will need to perform a full restore. I don't know if jailbreak work on other iPhone 5 phones, i used H3lix to jailbreak and i cannot use the phone after. With iPhone 4, the Phoenix jailbreak runned like a charm, no problems with it. Camera on the iPhone 5 is very good. My friends always says that my phone does it's job for photos. I wanted to buy new iPhone, got scamed and i remain with my 5. I'm not gonna upgrade soon. I will use this phone until won't turn on, and if won't turn on, i will repair it and use again :)) . I'm from Romania, sorry for my bad english, i just say my opinion about this phone, hope will be useful for others.

  • I am having mine since 2012 I guess... After extensively using the 3gs, didn't jump into 4 & switched to 5 several months after it's lauched. Currently I am on 6, I bought it when 7 was already launched... Now it's time for me to jump again, it will be most probably the 11pro, since I feel I deserve it because I am still with 6 and not 7, 8, X, Xs nor Xr. I feel like I waited for 4 generations :) Anyways, coming to 5; I am still keeping it for spare. For instance, today I am using it because the battery of the 6 died again -it has been replaced once-. The battery will be replaced one more time, until I get a new phone. For me, the design & dimensions of 5 is the best among all iphones. I wish I had a new iphone with the exact dimensions of 5. Current trend is bigger screens, which does not fit with me... I like playing "Real Racing" series since the day it first launched. 5's specs were quite capable for playing this game for hours, so it's an important benchmark for me. With a high quality battery -which would be able to endure a day on extreme weather conditions, such as ice cold winters- I would not think of switching to any other phone. Probably the 5 will be with me for many years, as long as it continues to function properly.

  • Ordered a 16GB i5 locked to Vodafone UK for only £39.99 with a TPU Leather Case, Tempered Glass Screen Protector, Lightning to USB cable for a total of £44.22 (don't have a cable as I never have had an Apple product that needs the Lightning connector, only had the 30-pin for the 4 which is just an emergency phone). The 5 is able to run all my apps with good battery life and also has 1080p video recording which is important for me. The iPhone 5 was announced on my 9th birthday which is kinda cool. Never had an iPhone over 3.5". The 1GB RAM will be good enough for my use. iOS 10 is relatively new, so I can get a good experience and use an iPhone to its full advantage. Android will still be my primary OS though. In acceptable condition and coming in 5 days :)

But I doubt the difference in speed will be that big, I would rather have all of my apps working properly on iOS 10 than having to deal with support problems of iOS 8. I think in the process, you can also be on iOS 6, that would be something special. iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 were the best hardware-software combo ever.

But for a little bit better battery n camera( not drastically better), then iphone 5c is for you.. but in 2018 32-bit iphone is no longer compatible to use cause many apps will switch to 64 bit. The least you should choose is perhaps iphone 5s

  • Nice iPhone but after not using for about 1 year, it locked. I had to go through a long procedure to unlock it thanks to help from an Apple employee. Problem was that all of my data and my precious photos were lost. Those photos never got stored in the iCloud so I got screwed. Currently, I use the storage but Apple only gives 5 GB of free storage while Google gives free unlimited storage space. I guess that Apple needs the extra cash to open a new factory in the US.

  • Got this phone in January second-hand, so my opinion isn't as valid as it would if we were in 2012-13. It was my first iPhone (and Apple product). Mind you, the battery wasn't in very good shape, but I got it for cheap. The battery lasted about half to an hour if I was playing or recording anything. Using it lightly, it could last about three hours. If I was just listening to music and not using it for anything else, it could last almost half a day. Annoyingly, sometimes it turned itself off at 30%. The performance was great. Maybe it was because all my past phones were budget ones, but it was amazing. However, now that I have an SE, I can notice a bit of lag, but nothing too extreme. I still could play stuff like Musiverse without any problem. The camera is a bit grainy, but still pretty good. My problems at first were with iOS. I have been using Android for years, and I wasn't too content about the lack of a SD card slot and customization. However, I'm okay with it now. It doesn't support iOS 11, but personally I don't mind, as I've tested it and I didn't really like it. TLDR: Still an excellent phone to this day.

  • The best you can do first is to factory reset, you can do it in settings/general/reset... before that make sure you disable the icloud link with your phone and then proceed with the reset. You can also do it in iTunes.

I gone into the internet, downloaded the IPSW file (or how this thing is called, anyway I downloaded iOS 10.3 for iPhone 5 GSM) and installed it via iTunes by pressing "shift" and clicking "software update, search it on finder and clicked it. I also recently replaced the housing with the silver one (my iP5 is black). I replaced the white top and bottom antenna glasses with black glasses taken from the old housing. I also replaced the button with the black ones to make it even cooler. Topping with the black front screen, my iP5 now looks like nothing on the market. I love this phone.

  • Of course, the hard reset is one of the first things, that the apple support say. But after them the next problem. Since iOS10.2 the iPhone 5 start with some resets after power of and start with a hatd reset. Later hard reset seems to be have not so many problems. But never the battery is calibrated and is not possible with so many resets.

So far it's a reliable, tough (due to Glass screen protector and Targus Hybrid casing) and user friendly companion. Just updated to IOS 10.2. A bit laggy while playing Subway Surfers. Camera quality's decent but terrible at Low light shooting. The Drawbacks, 16GB barely enough. Thanks to Google Photos, managed to backup and Spring clean my photos. Now left 500+/- MB storage. Battery replaced once Jan this year and OEM now shows sign of deteriorating. Overall rating 9/10. Highly recommended. But get AT LEAST 64GB.

  • I bought iphone 5 January 2016 first few months everything was great, but after 4 months its battery started swelling and dust got deposited on the back camera, screen was bulged out. I had never expected this much poor quality from apple. This was not all, when i tried to get a replacement for the battery (since it was still under warranty), I came to know that its not under warranty anymore. I had the bill, i called apple support, they said they can't do anything I have to get a paid service. Absolutely rubbish support from apple. Because of the battery problem my screen also got damaged. And the original replacement cost was 13500 for (LCD+touch panel), I mean what the ***k. My experience with apple is worse. I do not know what the god damn hell they charge so much money for if you can not provide a good customer service.

  • Hello guys I need a little help here! I had this iPhone 5 since last year and it was given to me by my cousin because she upgraded to the iPhone 6 so basically it's secondhand. Now this phone had been constantly turning off by itself and the battery drained quickly from 100 % to 1 % in just a few seconds most specially when I turned the cellular data on.   • That's because the ios10 was designed for the new generation of phone, (iphone 7). Makes total sense that your 5 would slow down and bug out a little bit with the newest software. It simply was not made to support that software. I just upgraded from 5s to the 7, but before I got it, I did not download the newest upgrade for this reason alone.

  • I have used Iphone 5 for 2 years and are very pleased with it. It still act lagfree and all new updates have worked fine. The only downside I would mention is that the battery get easily warm and it drains batterylife more then when it was completly new. Otherwise it's a very userfriendly and reliable.

  • I thought I would give a review for iphone 5 since I had it for 3 years. The first 2 years of using Iphone 5 were great, the phone, the camera, messaging, gaming, playing with apps. Although the battery does not last long and you would need to recharge it before the end of the day when in full use. After a year of usage, there was a major ios update from ios6 to ios7. I didn't update and maintain ios6. Most of Iphone 4 that updated to ios7 had sluggish performance. So did some Iphone5 but it was not noticeable since it had latest hardware. I didn't update as I always feel like any phone is tuned to the original OS. Other than that, I didn't like the new icons. The new features were good but I think, they could have just given the option of getting the new features without changing the overall look. I had to sacrifice a lot since I couldn't download the latest app due to requirement of ios7 and I have to carefully check the requirement of existing apps before updating. The lightning cable charger is the most delicate accessories of the iphone5. You need to really take care of it as it is easily damaged. It is not recommended to use third party chargers even if its made for Apple products. This is where the problem on my iphone5 happens. Since my original cable charger was damaged and out of order, I used a third party lightning cable charger which is authorized for apple made products as the original is quite expensive for the flimsy design. However when I use this, it might have damaged the circuitry or battery. After about 2 years of using it, the battery had problem of dropping excessively per minute. Sometimes it jumps from high percentage to about 50% in a second and sometimes from just below 50% to completely shutting down on its own. When recharge, it shows a high percentage of just below 50%. Suspect is the battery. However after doing extensive googling, there are several opinions that it is not because of the battery but a U2 logic chip that was damage due to usage of non-original lightning cable chargers. tldr-Great phone, low battery capacity for the lots of features it can do, flimsy lightning cable, only use original lightning cable, don't charge in car, no choice but to upgrade ios to use latest apps. expensive side if its only reliable for 3 years just like any other smartphones.

I got mine swapped as it was second hand but they had seen this behaviour before so assumed iPhones charging board.   • 3 years and my iPhone 5 is still going strong. I have a tempered glass screen protector applied on it. It has survived multiple drops like 7-8 times. It has also survived water damage. It got totally wet in rain and would not power on. Revived it by putting in a bag of rice for 2 days. I made a terrible mistake of updating from iOS 6 to iOS 7. I loved the look and feel of iOS 6. Currently I am on iOS 9 now and will not do any more future updates because apple has a habit of slowing down older iPhones with latest iOS. Just like the case of iPhone 4 with iOS 7. It was so slow and lagged a lot. So will not update to iOS 10 in future. The only component that has taken a hit in my iPhone 5 is the battery. After 3 years of heavy usage, its back up has decreased significantly. So I have ordered a new battery from authorized apple reseller and plan to change it myself. So with the new battery, I plan to keep my iPhone 5 for another 3 years if all goes well.

I must say though, that I prefer the look of iOS 6 - but I mainly use apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, BBC News, Truecaller, and YouVersion, and I think all those apps require a newer version of iOS.   • I'm a big fan of apple ...but I'll suggest you to go for Samsung ....it wil give you more flexible and friendly user....for me I'll go for apple...even if it doesn't support external SD card and restricted data share with other device....cuz I already experience Apple's iPhone...its your choice....the only things deference between the two is android support xternal SD card and can share data with other device like through Bluetooth or zapaya....
