i had also ASUS V80 for almost 4 years, it also have problems occuring the incoming messages,but eventhough i really love its features especially the camera..but i cannot use it outside because the casing is totally unusable and the speaker was connected in the casing so i cannot use it with phone calls,please tell me where can i find it..

I had Asusv80 before. It was not easy to use especially in text messages. There were problems occurring when you reply on the incoming message. Another disadvantage using this phone, no "mark all/several." I had a hard time to copy/move one by one certain files. The scroll key is just so @#%$! But the camera is good. hehe

Why won't my Asus v80 connect to my laptop?. When I plug it into my laptop it says "USB Device not recognized." Sometimes it's just lucky that it connect's to my laptop but when I click the mass storage, of course the phone will turn off. The balloon appears again "USB Device not recognized". Hey Robert, bluetooth is compatible with nokia, & motorola. I haven't tried yet to Samsung. Regarding PC's compatibility with this phone, It depends upon the brand of the PC.

hi monica! I'm not having a problem with my joystick, my phone was 1 year & 6 months now. Yes there were only 4 themes available on this phone. You can only access wallpaper through bluetooth & download. Same with the screen saver. The only thing is, no memory card installed yet. You need to buy your own Memory card.

I bought my phone 1 year & 6 months ago. & still in good condition. Of course you can use mp3 as your message alert tone. You need to familiarize the phone seriously before you can enjoy the great features of this phone. Video recording is unlimited time. You can send sms with moving icons, send sms with tones available on the phone. Its really cute. One thing i'm bothered was my phone fell down 3x before & now my camera was not that good as before. Sometimes blurd. So guys be careful the way you handle your phone. I also bought my phone at Wellcom. Black color is beautiful!

to millie.. you can remove those secret files by connecting your v80 to the computer in "mass storage" mode. then browse the MMC,videos and photos folders.. you can see the hidden folder there. and you can delete it! for any qyerries, contact me..

I just bought this phone last october and I would say it is a phone with great features at lower price compared to nokia and SE of the same/near specs. Regarding the joystick and the rubber ball, fortunately for now, I have no problem with it. =] Downside of it is the "bug" in text messaging where the letters got doubled instead of getting the right letter you want. I hope Asus got a firmware for fixing it the way they did to V66. Just a question, is there a way where we can change the theme other than the ones they have? Seems like V80 only have 4 themes and we cant add no more. More power to Asus!

It's a very good phone indeed. Have to admit that there are so called "bugs" for the text messaging and even what the other said for phonebook entries are all true. What is not true about the previous opinions that I have read is that he/she is claiming that we can't use mp3 as a messaging alert tone. i have mine obviously and I can use mp3 tones as a messaging alert. Hmm.. I think it's because that I have upgraded my firmware. Try to do an upgrade for firmware bro and check. It has no downfall/s by the way. I'll be missing my phone. I sent it out to repair the joystick and yeah the ball easily gets off. Just after a day of having the new case, it was lost! Case costs a thousand box.. Repair takes 3-4 weeks Wellcom! Come on.. You can do better than that?!

Hello Monica, there is indeed an error in the software. The double letters frequently appears and that so far the only most annoying aspect of this fone. Aside from that, im completely satisfied with this one given its cheaper price compared with others brands with the same feature.

Im planning to buy this phone but i got discouraged by the opinions. In India, this phone is being sold under the brand / model of SPICE S-900. The calling & messaging features of this phone leaves something to be desired. One is that there is no feature to add a second number to an existing name in the phonebook. Second is the fonts do not automatically go to caps when it is in phonebook name entering mode, which it should essentially do, since all proper names should begin with caps. However, these are small features, but which were present in my previous phone, Sony Ericsson T230. Anyway, these lack of small features are to an extent, taken care of by the S/W (works only with MS Windows) provided with the phone, which is an excellent value addition. On the whole, it is an excellent value for money bluetooth enabled multimedia phone.

If you want to save your word document just plug the unit to the PC while it is off , it will appear 2 options "USB Storage" like a flash disk or "COM Port" just select "USB storage" and check it in My Computer Icon it will appear an additional Drive just open it and save or paste your file..

DRM is where your secret album and videos are stored. it cannot be used as a flash disk if you mean word documents or the like. if you try to make your texts small, the one who will receive the msg will get small prints too (this is with other asus phones, havent tried sending it to other kiinds of phones though). under write msg, click on options then text format then text size. overall, it is a durable phone. it can last 5 days when im not using the video, cam or music; 2-3 days if i am. there are times when i set my alarm or phone on/off to a specified hour or days but it doesnt ring!

Durability isn't quite good, 1st, the little ball on the joystick will get off, then the "0" button will flip up, and then, between the "menu" and "phone book" button will break~!!! it's true, I just use it bout 4 months~! oither than that, the "DRM" memory really screwed me up~!!

I have an Asus V80. Asus' email support confirmed that the unit can accommodate up to 2gb of some miniSD cards in the market. Sandisk and Kingston are some of the brands tthat I have already tried and works great.

Adjust the brightness of the screen. This can significantly increase the battery life per charge. My battery lasts for 2-3 days under heavy usage (calls,mp3s thru loudspeakers,texting...)

My phone lasts for 5 to 7 days. ofcoarse that depends entirely upon usage. I dont play the java games very often. Just camera and text and sometimes call. But if you are a heavy user, i think the battery will still last around 3 days.

my baby bought V80 for my birthday. At first it was confusing but as day goes by, you will be surprise with its features. though some specs are not really true as compared to what it is written in the manual. e.g. sharper shots, better colors ect.. but v80 gives you "excitement" as compared to its class with nokia. Yup, it's for real. nice features for a really affordable price... camera is good, especially when you use makro close-up shots, speaker is loud but not as clear as speakers from other phones, mp3 player has preset equalizer settings, java games can be played without significant delays (Text twist is my favorite!) but limit your games, because you don't want to fill up the DRM folder. battery life is also ok, about 2-3 days on frequent usage. and I think the price is getting lower and lower for this unit. The only complaint I have is that the joystick is used as space in typing sms messages, although by now I got pretty used to it,

Regarding the software flaw, from the unit that Ive been using, theres only a bug in texting wherein tapping a letter twice to produce letters like "h" gives out "gg" instead. Aside from that, this one perfectly fine for me and yes the cheap price was basically the eye catcher part. it has nice features give its fair price.

to all filipinos there planning to buy this phone. please be careful, ask to the real experts and users from this site and not to the store salespersons cause some of them were just pretentious to have a know-how regarding to the phone. but they not! they give us wrong info and fools us that this one is poor and etc. what a lie as if i call it. they only just don't know how to use the phone very well. that is my experience with asking on the saleslady regarding the K800i's features pretending that i didn't know the specs but i do. and you know what she says? the K800 is a lowest end phone of Se that has no memory card and has a camera. now comment if you want. this is from a cellphone shop in baguio city at baguio centermall. tnx and be careful!

sold this phone a month ago, texting is quite hard, joystick not reliable it's just too uncomfortable to use.. it feels plastic like a chinese copycat phone, speaker is bad and camera below average.. i think k750 is still better and cheaper than this one. phones are getting cheaper and slimmer nowadays, so stick with nokia and sony ericsson

My firmware version is already 4.11. I'm still hoping for a new one to be released if ever. Maybe this bug doesn't affect all phones, or maybe the keypad itself is the problem. However, having experienced two units of this model with the same problem, I think that it is not just my bad luck, but others might have been experiencing this,too. Unfortunately, BiBi Wang from Asus seems to have ignored my last message concerning this issue. :(

In addition to the bug in writing text messages, I also noticed that, for example, when wanting to write "C", sometimes it may come out as "AA", or as, described earlier, as "AB". So there are two variations of this error. Are there any other users with the same problem? For other Asus models?

jologs: the same thing happened to me. I also had to wait for more than a month, but in their defense, the branch manager was very nice and polite. I think the problem lies in their head office where they do not process the unit right away, unless you follow-up endlessly. Well, at last I now got my unit and I'm pleased with it. But still, there is this weird bug when writing text messages: for example, if I want to write "O" the output in the text message oftentimes becomes "MN" instead of "O". The same happens also for the other keys on the keypad. Anyone with the same problem? The previous unit that I had exchanged at Wellcom showed the same bug, and when I filled-out the technical problem form at the support page of Asus, a representative from Asus (Bibi Wang) replied that there was no such bug. If there are others with this weird bug, please address this to them via their support page. This could trigger them to update the firmware and maybe add even the "0" key as the dedicated space key, instead of the joystick. These are the only 2 issues I have with this phone so far. I have come to accept the fact that the flash is not intended for long-range shots, but is rather limited only to very close shots.

The phone has internal memory for sms but I think it can only store for around 50sms so if you got a sim that can store another 50 sms, thats 100 in total. Thats really cheap coming from telecom, all the talk about the convenience in using the warranty anytime, anybranch stuff. I better think twice before handling my unit to telecom next time. yeah, MMS/GPRS was never a problem..i ddnt even have to configure it..i guess nasa simcard din, im on globe G-Plan so naka-activate na tlga..i can browse wapsites w/o hassles.. yeah pre, i-demand mo na sa wellcom..i month is too much..the branch in glorietta was ok, they even gave me a 2.5 to 3.5 headset jack (yung sa nokia 5300)..now i can use any headphone of choice.. battery life is excellent..it lasts 4-5 days on average use..it beats any walkman phone in stand-by & music mode.. i bought 1gb miniSD..now i have 240 songs & it never slows down!!

Hello Yehrwin, well if you get your phone in brand new condition then I guess it would be ok. You can always return the unit anytime within the warranty period. Well I also could use MMS for this unit because of the "Network provider dont recognize the phone stuff". But that less than a problem to me, I dont use mms its expensive. I always connect to PC (and send it to friend via email) or send pics via bluetooth.

BTW, my phone is still with wellcom (For almost 1 month now), but yesterday they confirmed that my unit is finally at the southmall branch.. although I was really demanding and hoping for a full replacement. That should be only mandatory for such a defective unit as mine, don't you think?

great phone..i had no plan of buying this one ( i didn't even know it exists, never knew of 'asus' phones) until i saw this at wellcom..i bought it for its simple design & enough features..i had many phones before(N71, N73, K800,W550i,Z550, D720, etc) & i still have the touchscreen Samsung E890...i think this phone beats some of my old phones..it rivals W810i & nokia 6233..and i think asus wins in design & features..here's the summary : no unnecessary buttons great music player great radio (can record songs unlike other phones & even uses the mp3's equalizer) good camera (autofocus with flash, like W810i) 2.5 mm jack (though i wish a 3.5 one) USB mass storage (no need for the CD) display is readable is direct sunlight (better than W810i) superb sound

Hello, for karen. I think you really need to go to shop where you brough you phone get configuration for MMS. i dont think you can get it automatically from globe or smart coz they dont recognize the phone. (coz Asus is quite unique). For Yehrwin, thanks for sharing the info, I also brough mine from wellcom. Ill be sure to think twice before surrendering my phone to them.

just wanted to share this... My phone is now for more than 2 weeks at Wellcom and all the while I thought they are processing my unit for repair. Now after countless calls at Wellcom Southmall branch they gave me the number of the head office and I only found out now that they are just going to check the unit right at the very moment I called and they don't even have the complete list of reasons for returning the unit. So kundi pa ako tumawag at inexplain kung bakit ko pinaparepair o replace yan, baka kung kelan pa nila ipoprocess ito. So my point is just that their service, at least from my experience, sucks!

just asking guys.. does your Asus V80 phone limited in java games? n my previous phone (W550i), i installed 100+ java games & i have no trouble at it. Here in V80, my games is limited to < 15 java games, because of filesize. do you have any idea on how can i install more games in V80? i have 250+ java games in my memory card (in .jar format), sayang naman if i can't installed at least 50+ games, para ma-enjoy ko ang V80 ko.. thanx..

@Erick: have them both. the v80 & j208. For me, the winner is V80! why? 1. bigger & brighter LCD. 2. The stereo plug on it, compared to J208's usb stereo only. 3. FASTER & UPDATED user interface! for J208, don't know if asus will continue to update the firmware. 4. The BOOMBOX experience!hehhe. and the user customizable eq! 5. Voice command feat. yherwin: not at wellcom..I bought my unit at memo express...in sm north cyberzone.. yes, they are willing to replace the whole unit..they are familiar with me, they didnt eve ask me for the receipt... but I kept it that way..khit wala ung rubber.nkapg lagay na kas ako ng mga songs e.. but in ur case, u have to let that replaced..its covered under warranty..u have to assert for that..It is a must that they answer you for the defective unit they sold you..

Hi all, i bought this phone becoz of the gud feedback i've read and i'm not disappointed. the phone is gud and the features are okei..the rubber on my joystick was also removed the other day i bought it but its okei.. i just kept the rubber and i was able to adjust to joystick without the rubber and still works fine..i feel even comfortable using the joystick without the rubber..not a big deal for me :p

Jhun: Really? at wellcom? did they immediately replace the unit without asking? Coz when i took my unit it had even 3 defects, namely the rubber thing peeling, a sticky "6" key, and a non-centered flash. They said they still have to bring the unit to the headoffice for inspection. And only after that they will decide if it is for repair or replacement. the whole process might take at least 2 to 3 weeks. kaya yon... badtrip!! haha malas ko tlga

it seems that the rubber on top of the joystick is the common problem in this phone...mw and my fried bought the same unit..after a day the rubber on top of his phone's joystick was removed, although its used normally,and the next day mine was also removed... its a simple flaw but once overlooked it might discourage customers.. suggestion: dont glue it back..return the unit and the rubber on top of the joystick and they will relace the whole handset..

Currently, the phone sells at P10400. At Wellcom you'll need a VIP card for that price, But there are stores, like mp3express, which sell them already for P10400 without membership I think.

Question: Is it possible to install and store Java games in other folders, not just in DRM? Anyway, if anyone is wondering how to install java games, you can do it in 2 ways: Using the software provided from the PC or directly from the memory card/memory of the phone. The 2nd method might be more convenient: Just save the .jar file in any of the folders (For example, the Received folder) and run it using the File Manager. You'll see the "Install" option when you click the .jar file. Happy gaming!

The phone does play mp4 files! I have tried it, and I think that's one of its features asus is promoting. You can watch a whole movie in mp4 on that phone, provided that you have enough memory on your card. The sound quality for videos is also very good: still loud and clear as ever.

Hope that you can have you cellphone return just like new, and I hope the asus tech people would take some notes on our mini opinions here. hehe To xcel, I havent tried mpeg 4 yet, but I think the phone only plays video in 3gp format. But thats not a problem, you can just convert mpeg4 video to 3gp using converter software, try search acala videoconverter on net, its free and I'e already used it.

Thanks Kenny, I thinks he's one of the people in charge of the online customer care service of asus, I have also read his name before in some other forum. I haven't tried the lyrics function yet, and I guess I'll have to wait a while for that, because tomorrow I'll bring my unit to wellcom for repair. They said that the whole process of sending it to asus and back etc. will take about 2-3 weeks. badtrip.. hehe.. So, Kenny, this means that your Flash is ok and maybe my unit is just one of defective ones? Another thing, the 6 key is not responding as well as the other keys now after only a few days of usage. In sending SMS messages, for example, it's only useable when pressing a little harder, which is very annoying. But, of course, if everything I mentioned could be fixed I'll be happy again.. ;p I hope someone from asus reads our messages here...

Who is this BiBi Wang Yehrwin? By the way, have you tried display the lyrics of song which is supposed to be in LRC format. I have tried putting an mp3 and lrc file in the same folder, same filename. But the player doesnt display the lyrics like I expected. Good luck with the flash discrepancy.

Right, Treble mode, in my opinion, gives out the loudest output using the phone speakers. However, when plugging the phone into bigger speakers I prefer Rock mode. BiBi Wang from Asus finally replied and he told me to send pictures that were taken in the dark using the flash. I do hope they fix this. And I also pointed out that it would be better to use the 0 key as space, instead of the joystick. Maybe they'll update that in the next firmware if enough of us address that query at their website. I also suggested to add more alphanumerical characters such as β � � � � � � � � �

Regarding the sleep mode, I dont know either if its possible to display the clock. As for the sounds: the sound is just fine, its loud and clear plus you can adjust the equalizer as to customize what frequency variation you prefer.

Yup, i think so,too. And thanks for the input. The V80 is really a great phone for the buck. I especially like the camera, with its 2mp resolution, it eliminates the use of a scanner by just taking a picture of the document. If only the flash could be adjusted. For me that's the only major concern that I have. To be honest, the rubber thing that is missing doesn't bother me that much, somehow i find it even easier to navigate the joystick and it doesn't look that bad anyway. But still it would be nice if asus could replace that,too. ;p By the way, another question, is it possible at sleep mode that the time is still visible without having to click any key?

Hello Yehrwin, Regarding you issues with v80, here are my opinions: 1st: about the flash thing, i have tried using the flash at dark but i havent check the picture if only the lower part was lightened, check that one tonight. 2nd: Yep, I also experienced the rubber peeled off. And it also happend around the first couple of days after I brought it, I just put mightybond on it and stick just fine. Sorry about you lost your rubber stuffing in joysticking. 3rd: Yep, I also often got the two consecutive letter like the "jk" thing when it was "i" that I really wanted to spell out. 4th: I used the joystick to make a space while texting but I still have to resort to 0 key if I want to explicitly insert a space between two character. It still open up the special character menu where I still have to select space from there, kinda tiring at times. Aside from those issues, v80 is also the perfect non 3g phone for me.

Hi, New Asus V80 (black, version 4.11) user here and I'm very pleased. Still, I do have a few issues with the phone that I have already pointed out at the support website of asus. I suggest that everyone should address their queries about this phone at their website >> In this way we could get their attention in getting the bugs fixed in the next firmware version. Here are the points that I want to fix, just want to see if there are other units like this or if it's just my bad luck: 1st inquiry: The flash does not cover the whole area. It is out of focus for my unit, meaning that when taking a picture in the dark using the flash, the upper portion (in landscape mode) is not lit at all. Hence, the outcome is a picture where only 2/3 of the area (lower portion) is visible. The rest of the area (upper portion) is very dark to almost black. But If the flash could just be adjusted a little more focusing on the top, then the light would cover the whole picture area. I have tried this both in normal and night mode and the results were almost the same. Is this a common problem for the V80? 2nd inquiry: The rubber material on top of my joystick peeled off after 1 day and I lost it somewhere. I hope this can be replaced. 3rd inquiry: Double typing at sending SMS messages is still a frequent issue for my model. (especially if you want to type "l", sometimes it comes out at as "jk") 4th inquiry: 0 key, instead the joystick, for space when typing SMS messages.. please.. hehe Still, overall I think that this phone has very great features at a very reasonable price.

@Mamu: Just obtain the username & password from the provider. Most of the V80 phones are configured to use the WAP-GPRS/MMS-GPRS. Check with your phone, under Data Account(from the main menu-Network), you'll see 3-local providers. Activate the one your using. Ciao!

@Jolog09: Mine is ok downloading sms via usb cable. Did the handset manager detected your unit? Usually, a bad installation is the cause of this error. Make it sure that there is no conflicting device with the COM port, which the handset manager is using. Try to re-install the software, this will automatically choose the correct & available com port. Btw, there is an updated version of handset manager @ asus site.

got the phone... it was great! the pictures were excelent. i printed some of it and turned out very good. the only problem i had that when i write a text message sometimes it repeats the last character. some of the units released here in the phil have a firmware version 4.10. but the latest version was 4.11. my girlfriend bought a v80 a week before me. her phone has only version 4.10 while mine have already 4.11. the only difference is that in 4.11 you can use mp3 file to be your message tone alert. but luckily, the the firmware upgrade to v4.11 can now be downloaded from the asus website. so now my girlfriend doesnt need to bring her phone to wellcom and wait for 2 weeks to have it upgraded. last thing, as of now only prince of persia sands of time mobile game was the only game that worked good on my v80 coz it worked on full screen while other games works on half or even 1/4 of the screen. where can i download games and what games that would perfectly fit the screen?

@Jimmy: A fully charged bat last for 2-days in my case cause i'm still exploring it, see if any bugs in UI/OS side. I think for average usage it can last up to 3 or maybe 4-days. Plus, you can charge the phone via usb connector from your PC while working..yeahba! Never again na makikipag unahan ako sa power outlet! d na rin po kailangang dalin ang charger! To all: (V80 users) did the OS/UI hang/freeze? Mine, never had for almost 2-weeks now. my prev phone siemens/nokia 2-days pa lang nag-hang o kaya naman bigla nag-o-off. OS/UI side is stable compared to symbian series. but, this only my experience, don't know with others. Yan muna! never stop exploring.....

Got this phone from wellcom for almost a week now and i'm not disappointed. ASUStek is a well-known, tried & proven for its quality, performance in Computer Industry. The UI is responsive is this phone, screen is great!(2" vivid-260k colors). Sound quality is also a treat especially, when using my altec lansing 2.1 speaker! and set the MP3 eq to "Dance". Btw, don't forget to buy a 3.5mm to sub-mini stereo plug adapter. BT performed fair enough since, it's only v1.2, Don't have any problem connecting with Noknok N70 & HP Pav laptop, except that when your message tone is set to mp3, the phone does'nt stop playing the mp3 tone after the file transfer. Unless you play another media file. There should be a confirmation or a prompt after the file transfer. i'm still using the latest firmware v4.11. Asus must fix & update the firmware. But still, I LOVE THE PHONE. A worthy Noknok & SE replacement:)

Oh in case any body is wondering on how to install java games here, just get any java game that in .jar on your pc and copy it to your phone via mass storage. when you open your phone again just find the .jar file from file manager menu and open it.

Ive just brought v80 based from good reviews here, and its good to say that Im not dissappointed. The phone has superb features and stands superior to all other phones within the same price bracket. The only downside is that it seems I cant send mms using my network provider of globe and the keypad is a bit smaller, but that just need to get use to it and this will be the perfect phone.

i just have my V80 yesterday and its really nice for Php 10,700. the camera is good, for its autofucos function. sound so loud wen i play mp3's and its FM radio. to capture photo with flash, LED must be turn-on (flashlight) by pressing #3, press other keys and you will see the other functions while on camera mode. if you want your photos to be viewed as "fullscreen" on the phone, set the image size to 176x220. press #8 simultaneously while on camera mode. capture, view it and it fits the whole phone screen. about 12kb memory used. but then if you want to see a large photo into your computer, (assuming that u tranfered the file) select the highest available image size when in camera mode (1600x1200) note: it wud eat your phone memory about 340kb. The sound really is so loud! especially wen u select the "Treble" as its equalizer. applicable on MP3 playing only. The Headset acts as the antenna for FM radio, though u can still listen to the radio without that headset in your ear by: go to MEDIA CENTER menu, select FM Radio, press option, choose settings, find Audio Device, the choose Loudspeaker. MP3's can be a ringtone by: go to MEDIA CENTER menu, choose audio player, press options, select a location where your MP3's are, select a song then press option then select "Add to ringtone". exit then go to SETTINGS menu, choose Tone Settings.... and you can see the song you selected there is already on the lists. The V80 also "re-charged" the battery using the USB cable to computer. Great Phone for a LOW Price!!

ok guys here it is. tried this phone in wellcom. the camera is damn great!!! just got curious about this phone on the rack coz its kinda cheap although i trust asus in other technological aspect. the great thing about this phone aside from the camera which has no red buffers sorrounding the photo unlike most SE cam phones, is the music. it even plays mp4! and you can watch movies in full screen sideways. u can use conventional 3mm headsets to listen to your mp3's and the sound is great. looks like SE nd Nokia found their match. u wont be disappointed with this phone. planning to get the sliding model of asus next pay day. its asus J208

uma, the camera flash is just an ordinary LED-based camera flash not a xenon or the so-called real flash like those in K800 or in real digicams,.. but it is said that it's flash performs as good as the one installed in K750(in which it has two)...

Finally, i saw ASUS in gsmarena,.. this phone is very good according to the specs, but minor flaws at messaging department, camera is excellent, it can rival, n90,k750 and it's autofocus 2mp SE brothers, and the benq-siemens S88..saw it in a review together with some sample shots taken from it's camera,.. it's one of a kind phone,.. goodluck ASUS, this must be the one that will wake SE and Nokia in a shock in the future...
