BenQ-Siemens S81

I have S81 and was a gift to me here in the philippines. My question is when I insert the sim card and turn it on, how come there is no signal that I tried to move and locate a better reception and still don't have a signal. The sim card seems to be working on all the specified functions on this model, but, can't figure out why can't get a damn signal while my brother cell which has same model is working well. Pls give me an answer to this cause I've read the manual from cover to cover and still not working. I've tried to change my sim card (globe telecom) to (smart) and still same problem with no signal and says limit service on the lower left side of the screen. I need your answer to this crazy problem. I love this phone and was a gift to me on my 50th birthday that was bought in the U.S. and has to be use here in the Philippines in which I don't see any reason or difference on the other one with same model. Thank you and hoping for your prompt answer in regards to this matter.

I've using it since two and a half year ago. It's dying now. Every year I must change my headphone, even the sound's quality is indeed pretty good. 1. my s81 keypad is not responded with normally finger touch. u must push the keypad hard to get it reacted. 2. if i download a file from pc and than i move the file to my s81 via cable data, the file cant be installed on the phone 3. if i received file apllication from other phone via bluetooth, the file cant be installed on the phone

hello, actually i was satisfied with this phone, until yesterday, when my s81 light display off, i tried to turn in off and on, it'll on but the display will stay only for about 30 sec, i still can get the incoming message but when i press any keys it stayed off. what happened with my s81? anyone through this kind of problem before? plz, share, thx.

I bought S81 in Turkiye... Approximately 170 USD in here. besides 1GB memory card is gift with together this device. Really nice and very esthetic phone. And I am sure it is very cheap.

This is the wost phone i ever had. I bought one and after a week it started locking all the functions (keypad not responding) after 10 sec of being turned on.I had to take a battery out like million times with no results.I've asked the seller for refund but he sent me the other (brand new too). Same problem appeared after 2 weeks and I 've got stock with it and with no chance of repair due to the benq-siemens bankruptcy.

3 trips to the repair shop and I've only had the phone 3 months. Was sold on phone by a Singtel rep but will stay away from any BenQ/Siemen product going forward.

the comment that this phone sucks isnt true.... it has a good camera, decent screen, and 3G, and its soooo cheap! My friend got it more than a year ago, when it was pretty new, and it costed only about the price of a very basic sony ericsson/nokia!

it has a sleek and pretty exterior but do not let that fool you! why don't the roadside vendors who make and sell handphone cover create any plastic covers for this phone? because they know its a failure and no one is buying it! i have never had to replace a phone because it was working so poorly until this phone! so many things are wrong about it, and it is completely user-UNFRIENDLY, from SMS, to the way information is filed away in your phone. after 3 months of conservative and gentle use, the contact for many buttons has nevertheless become so bad on its own that i had to send it back for servicing! i'm very disappointed with it.

to use it as a modem, one should see the extra setting in the modem properties (check in CONTROL PANEL>PHONE AND MODEM OPTIONS>PROPERTIES>ADVANCE) in the extra initialization command, type: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","[your operator's APN]" ex: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","flash" "flash" is the APN for indonesia's Telkomsel Flash (GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA) internet service. others must be having one. call your operator.

I have this phone for about 4mths now, it was nice & looking good! Two days ago, I cudn't use it to make calls. At first I thot my phone provider that went dead. Apparently it's the (inner?) speaker that didn't work. I can still use it to make/pick up call using loudspeaker or handsfree. Isn't that annoying? What if I forgot my handsfree? Has anyone here experienced the same problem?

this phone has best price/performance ratio because it is the cheapest 3G/UMTS phone available here in my country (about US$150). so, if you are a beginner and really want to use the 3G network, you could try this phone.

Got this phone which is a good buy for a 3G model. Love its sleek and slim outlook. The ringtone is very loud, and can set entire mp3 song as sms tone which is great for me. Cheap and chic phone which don't come along easily.

For Indonesia people : I think S81 is good phone, despite for some people is not use to it, specialy for SMS. But other than that is good phone. I currectly using it as modem, connecting with Telkomsel Flash, a 3.5G internet broadband connection. It very fast (using 3G connection, up to 300 kbps). overall Im satisfied with the phone.

Benq bought the Siemens factory, but they didn�t co-worked together thats why you see diferent softwares in many models, Siemens software :EL71, 71, M81, EF81, all the other phones are pure Benq.... As for me, i prefer the Benq software much more reliable and stable than the Siemens one but less personalisable.....who cares..... My phone is not slow, the only drawback is the speed of the sms when you move to more than 160carachters...Otherwise this is a phone like no other, very unique ans absolutely amazing

and by the way, some people don't know what the difference siemens and benqsiemens (bensin). this is the answer : siemens mobile division has been bought by benq, one of the biggest taiwanese electronics vendor (they making gadgets, computers peripherals, even cellular phone). so as far i know all benq siemens produced in taiwan.

just bought yesterday, very good phone, not expensive but have "expensive looks". solid material, i think its better from Noks 6300. the cons is bit difficult using sms (typing), no radios and a bit big. but other than that is very very worthed phone to buy

i'am a big fans of siemens phone. so i bought the benq-siemens s81 series. i love this phone. good looking, solid materiall, great voice of mp3, can record the video call. but i have lost from common siemens personalization (no added skin and themes), cannot made a folder, no grouping ringtones. there is no organizer.

I have had this phone for three days. Pros: looks good, nice display, takes a 1GB card, costs 100 Euro sim free. Cons: MP3 player automatically stops when you select another function (WAP, camera and some menu items), SMS interface is really, really user-unfriendly (it has no custom dictionary function so when using itap you must multitap names in every time, and some words like "Poland" are not even in the dictionary!), menus are really simple so the level of settings customisation is very poor, the phone is really difficult to hold while the headset is plugged in, it makes an irritating noise when switched on an off (can only be stopped by running the phone in a silent profile) and file management is non-existant. In summary, a very average phone that promised a lot but doesn`t deliver. Not for people who like to SMS.

I have this model since 2 days and i'm really really disapointed. Comparing to Siemens S65 which i'm using for 2 years it's very simple and user-un-friendly :-(. Writing sms is very important to me but iTAP is just misunderstanding and there is no add-word function - disaster :-( Folder management, relocating files, importing and exporting files and contacts - another big weak point. This mobile only looks, plays and displays good, but what's inside its big step back and (a must say it again) misunderstanding!!!

Unstable firmware. The one i got always hang when trying to reply received SMS. The only good side about this phone is the low price. Anyone looking for serious bargain could take this but look forward for troubling firmware

here are MMS SETTINGS I hope i didnt forget any steps Im not sure if i do remember all steps but it looks a bit like in motorola v3 .First go to services (the earth icon) then to wap settings press option choose add profile and add the name that your provider requires( ie tmobile ) there you will enter the require values like profile name, home page, ip address (your provider will give you these). Myself I have used the same settings as in mms settings Then you have to go to messages and then to mms and from there to (no 7)settings to enter what settings are needed by your provider in the field server info.(here im not sure if you just only need to add the profile you have created before for example tmobile)

Have used this S81 for one month. Prior to this, I am a big fan of Sony Ericsson T68i, which I haved used for 4 years until now. In my opinion, S81 is a great phone! Stylish design, manly look, and solid candy bar build. Play music beautifully! Some interesting and useful features: - Flight Mode - Reject List Caller Group: you can instanly bar incoming call from specific contacts by adding the contacts into the Reject List, which you can hardly do in others mobile phones. - Paging LED: From the color of the Paging LED, you can know whether you have received a missed call or a new message. - Speed Dialling and/or Shortcut Key. - Flashlight.

Please Benq-Siemens release a new S class (s-91) with better battery life (400 H standby, 8.5 H talktime), HSDPA, 3.2 mp, RS-MMC external memory, a better organizer, RDS radio and the most important thing is the software can be updated like the old time siemens (that's what make siemens different with others)... Now i still keep my s75 and pass for S81. By the way, S88 is not a business phone, since it was an entertaiment/multimedia phone it should be E88.

yeah the second camera for video call may come in handy as it captures videos from front side and the other camera is placed behind the phone.
