To BNSH. I received refurbished phone from china. It looks as new. It has a new body but I think it is not original one. So looks like china businessmen buys old 9000 Blackberries and so on... then they install new body for the phone, put it in new retail box with accessories that are not original. And sell it to us. With battery removed you can see that actual phone board with SIM slot is not new. I don't know for how long this cellphone will last. I'm not sure if the body will stay in a good condition for a long time, even if you use phone gently. I think body will be worn or close to be falling appart after one year of standard usage. But for right now there is almost no differrence in the appearence between refurbished and new original blackberry. Blackberry OS is original in that phone because it is actually a blackberry cellphone with refurbished body, so there is no problems. Battery is not original as think but lasts the same time as original. Hm...this purchase actually was risky, because I didn't know what I'm really ordering. Now I would say that this phone must cost not more than 35 USD.

It's worth your bargain price nowadays, but it has some unsolvable prolems. At least it seems to me after search the net for solutions with the memory reserved to apps. It's so small. I gave up, after one week. Good phone to hear music, if you have an extra microSD card up to 8 Gb. But don't buy it. It's old. Good keys (i like), good sound, poor camera, poor memory. I'll keep it for only three monts at the most of my patience. And I'll be moving to the horible world of touch screen phones.

Dear Chichi, You just charge the battery with external power source. Connect the positive terminal of the power supply to positive termanl of the battery and Negative terminal of the power supply to Negative terminal of the battery for say 2 or 3 minutes. Thereafter insert the battery in the mobile and connect the charger. Hopefully it will start the charging. If you got the sucess, please revert back. Thanks Mohan Chandra

Hi, Download the system software for you phone from blackberry downloads site, navigate to C:\program files\common files\resource in motion\apploader\ and delete vendor.xml After that open a command prompt on the computer, navigate to the same path as above and write "loader.exe /resettofactory" without quotes. u need to reload OS. 1st of all u need to download OS, u can download it via search engine. however u unable to install new software using bb desktop manager. u be able to reload os using apploader. u can find the apploader inside your folder in installation of bb desktop manager which is u need to go through folder by folder inside your pc. after u find the apploader, inside the same folder u need to delete some item names as vendor.html if any related item remarks as vendor. then go trought the apploader and follow the instruction.

If you mean factory reset then you need to go into options and first check your device version from About menu. If the device is on 5.0 its pretty straightforward by going into security settings there should be a menu for Security Wipe. Select that and follow the instructions there. Please note everything will go whatever options you select so make a backup. If your device is an older version below 5.0 then you need to set a password on your device and then enter the wrong password as many times as it has been set for minumum is 3 so use that. Again follow instructions and it will wipe completely. Be sure to make a backup of what you need. Another alternative to reset the device would be to use desktop manager on a PC.

use an alcohol prep pad that you would find in a safety kit. Roll it on the track ball lightly. it will clean out any dirt that is causing the trackball to stop. It has worked for me.

Did you activate your BIS in full service? If so, it ussually caused by different world timezone in appworld. Try this, in your clock setting, set to automatic, then choose option, select update now. It worked on mine. Hope it works...cheers. :-)

I bought my Bold back in 2008, I have used it faithfully. I can't say enough about it's performance, an awesome phone. One of the best I have owned. The only drawback, if any, I would have to agree with is the battery life; wish it could be longer. But as the battery life of my friend is growing shorter due to age I fear I will have to retire my old friend and purchase the newer Bold 9900, as the cost of a new battery is over fifty dollars. I'm a blackberry user for life.

If anybody experiences problems with the 9000 trackball, do the following: - Get your self little alcohol swaps (the once doctors use to desinfect your skin before an injection and available at any pharmacy) - Get your self a plastic straw (used for drinking) - Put the alcohol swap on top of the trackball and press the straw around the trackball. - Use the straw to move the trackball, covered with the swap in all directions. Voila! Trackball as good as new!

bold 9000 is a great phone.However, it has a low flash memory or application memory. It has only 128 mb which is almost occupied by the operating system and other core application of the BB. It will leaves you 20 to 30 free memory and it is also being consumed by using applicaton, messages, games, etc. I always experience getting 0 mb which will let you phone hanging thereby you need to reboot the phone to get the memory back again.

search for a wifi and then just get connected to it. after that in wifi options scroll to wifi connection and press bb menu key an opt for wifi hotspot login. u will get connected wifi and now browse.

If you want the user base to retain i would STRONGLY suggest you start listening to your CUSTOMERS. Start supporting your old devices without leaving them out in the dark, obviously for ppl like us the only way out is to get another device ! Think about it... See what SE did to the x10i by giving 2.3 update. All the old BB device owners are stuck with BB OS5, why not 6 upwards and fix the RAM issue. The battery on the bold series is awesome compared to other bb's or other phones out there. I'm using a bold 9000 and i've used so many other models. Get a backup and do a full wipe. Restore contacts etc, but only the apps u really REALLY want. There are apps in app world that suck ur battery without your knowing, even if closed. BB OS is not like android to have advanced apps to figure things out. So before you install something think 10 times whether u need it and do a research and see its reviews. I had the same issue, after doing a full wipe and careful selection of apps sorted my berry. hope this helped... cheers

@nikka... i have the same problem too with my blackberry bold 9000 which is also a second hand... what i did was, i went to a technician and ask him to check whats wrong with the phone... and i found out that it has a short circuit inside thats why the battery drain fast so even if i buy a new battery it will be the same... and it will also damage the new battery.... whats worst is that when i got my phone bill i was surprise to see that there was and internet charges which i didnt use and it billed... so i think my phone is connecting on its own... when i ask how much will i have to spend to fix it... it will cost me almost the same value of a brand new blackberry 9000... so i think its wise to buy a new one than to repair it coz the technicial also says that reapairing it will not be a 100% sure it will work perfectly... if you're going to the authorized service center of the blackberry it will be more expensive.. so think about it

Read this HOW TO: Upgrade BB with or without data plan! Hi all! i'm writing this how to, because of my problem to upgrade my BB 9000. i have no data plan, and i couldn't get the Loader to load my OS... after a lot of troubleshooting... i finally got the answer so, this is me sharing it! these are the 'normal' instructions of installing an OS: Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9000: 1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. 2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." 3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file. you did all these steps, just like the instructions say, but the damnn loader wont load your OS? and you'll get something like this?: no vendor.xml on your pc, even not in the VirtualStore, and it wont load the damn OS? This is your solution I recommend the following instructions even if the 'normal' method works, because it's going to be a complete fresh instal. ok lets go: first get the following things, 1. BBSAK (http://rimgeeks.com/download.php?f=B..._Install­er.msi) 2. Your BB OS! 3. DM (to make a backup) =======Optionally================= 4. Shrink-a-Os (http://www.theiexplorers.com/bb/Shrink-A-OS.exe­) =============================== first of all, make sure you uninstalled every OS you don't want to instal on your Blackberry. 1) Install BBSAK 2) Install New OS ========Optionally================= If you want the Original OS to be installed, without a shrink please proceed to step 3 Now we are going to Shrink Our OS, this helps a lot if you want a fast BB, or if you have a lot of apps wich drain your device memory. ok you have the shrink a os file downloaded on your Computer. Press the windowsbutton + 'R' the run screen on your pc will pop up, copy this in it! and hit run C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\ now you will se a OS folder (mines is '9000M_v5.0.0_1682_5.2.0.93) this is where the OS is installed on your pc. open this folder and copy the Shrink - a - OS file in the folder! if you have the option run as administrator, run it as administrator, or else just double click on it! now you have to check the highlighted box (see picture) just check the boxes of the items you don't want or don't need Hit the Shrink my os button, and the program will shrink your os, it will show you how much MB's you've won by doing this step ok continue with step 3 ================================ 3) lets make some backups, - first backup your device using the Desktop Manager (i think i dont have to explain this) - if you have third party apps you'll have to open BBSAK, typ in your password(if you have one) if not, leave blank. click on the Backup Apps button, and BBSAK wil backup your APPS! =D 4) Open BBSAK, Click on the 'Wipe Device' button . It says " Are you sure ? This is a low level wipe " this is just fine, click on the OK Button 5) Now your Blackberry is wiped, it will restart, and give you an Error (507) this is what we want, because now you'll have an empty BB, and there will be nothing to read for the DM or the Loader.exe 6) Make sure your BB is on, and press the reconnect button on BBSAK, if your pin shows up, this is good, if not try a battery pull and detach your BB from your computer, and re attach it. this will work 7) Hit the Load OS button on BBSAK 8) this screen wil pop up, i guess you did notice it's just the loader. exe ... (you'll think) WAIT the loader.exe.. i didn't delete the vendor.xml!! no problem, BBSAK automatically did this for you! Nice huh! now the only thing you've gotta do is run the installation program! now you've got your OS loaded, the loader.exe wil say load succesfully or something like that, let the bb reboot and let it takes its time, (first time is going to be looooong!) 9) open BBSAK again, and press Restore Apps 10) open DM and let it restore the BB, afterwards, bull the battery let it reboot again, and start to check out the fresh installed new OS!! i hope this helps you! the solution to most of your problems with this phone: dont buy blackberry. the first and foremost reason: The "application memory" on this phone for example is 128mb. This 128mb is used for the following things: the entire OS (~60 mb), space for any installed applications and games, and RAM as well. And no way of installing applications anywhere else outside that 128mb. See a problem yet? Second only to battery life, which is miserable at that performance level. 1500 mAh, for a 600 mhz processor, that tiny RAM, and a standard screen, barely last a day under normal use. If you like contant hangs, restarts (which take forever), not using apps or games, and using your phone as a dead paper weight, this is the thing for you. Everybody else, get a different phone, and use nimbuzz or anything similar instead of this other overhyped thing for lazy people who cant even seem to use a standard IM client, called BBM. cheers

Best of the worst. The best thing about the phone is the trackball. I have tried others with the IR pad and would rather gouge my eyes out with a spoon than use it. All in all, the BB as a phone is 5 years behind in hardware and OS. There are still no apps compared with iPhone or Android. Buy something else.

I have been using phones of all varieties and now bought a Bold 9000 BB and its awesome to have so much of connectivity over mails and chats to keep you in touch with friends/relatives, good battery back up comes for 2 days on my 100-150 calls per day along with the BB options. Easy to use key pad but little bulky still visible for compliments from others....if you want to go with BB try this one.

I just sold my second hand Bold 9000 for $40 more than I bought it for. Only had it for 16 days, but I must say this a solid old school BlackBerry if all you care about is messaging. Has excellent speakers for music. I love the multi-colored LED notifications and the keyboard is great. This phone made me into a BlackBerry convert and now I want the 9900! The guy who bought it from me already owned the same model and just wanted a newer one. That's how much he loves this specific model. I told him BlackBerry is the Cadillac of cell phones. This is where the old school money is at. If you don't need touchscreen and 500K apps, this is the classic BlackBerry phone to get. Still looks sexy after three years and still gets the job done for core functioning like email and text messaging.

Three years later, and still the best-looking BB that RIM ever made. I have an iPhone 4 and my Bold still looks great in comparison. Wide, but still sexy as hell considering it is from 2008! Faux-leather back which is easy to grip, take off, and prevents greasy fingerprints. Shiny bezel around it. The 9900 is its true successor and is slimmer, but you can make a case the 9000 has a better back and shinier bezel. Would love to see RIM create a QNX phone with the Bold 9000/9900 form factor. The 9000 & 9900 still have the best physical keyboard for a BlackBerry.

If you're looking for it in the Messages folder and it's not there, it's probably not configured to display SMS and MMS as well. SMS and MMS are in their own location, called SMS. :) You can set it up so that it shows up in Messages. Is that what you mean? If so, go to Messages > Options > Inbox settings then tick the SMS and MMS checkbox there.

You can try having the trackball and the area around it cleaned by a technician. You can try doing it yourself, since it's not that hard, and there are videos of how to do it on YouTube.

Trackpad! The reason is: moving parts- like the trackball- tend to brake a lot quicker than non-moving parts- like the trackpad. So the trackpad will last longer, and in my experience, the trackpad is way easier to maneuver than the trackball!

wifi is just network coverage. you can go on the internet and browse in any area without having to activating bis. meaning you can use your airtime to connect. contact you sp to set this up. regards, C

@thomas, from what i believe, no. os 6.0 alone requires 128 mb of ram and the bold 9000, which would max out the available memory. imo this is the best BB to date even with all the new ones out. can't wait for the montana/dakota or w/e the new bold is called. so glad they're bringing this design back, along with the touch screen oh boy that phone will be greaaat

Hi, Dont worry about it taking so long to load as that is pretty standard with all BB devices, however, 5minutes does seem a little extreme! Trackballs are pretty rubbish and thats why they have stopped producing them and have moved onto the optical trackpads with all new BB's.

@jingle. You obviously do not know how to use this phone. If you go to the options in the "message" application, you can set it so ALL your e-mails, sms's, and mms's go to that folder. Even in the BBM app you can set it so your bbms go into the message app too. Windows Live Messenger messages go there too, so do other apps like "KiK" and "PingChat." Learn the phone before you complain.

Why its so complicated and inconvient to use this phone than other brand. Incoming messages I need to go through main menu and look for this SMS and MMS icon. Even creating a message I have go through the main menu. And what is the purpose of this message icon for? The only thing you would expect to see as you open it is the registration note.

I bought this BB as second hand from the shop & it was registered before,by the last owner with a data plan but terminated.When I tried to use free wifi at hot spot,it blocked & asked me to contact service provider.All other BB applications,like BB maps,Office etc needed that I must subscribe to a data plan first.I returned the BB the next day as this device controls you to use its features & you don't have freedom of choice.

Totally agree, I had a 9000 and went for the 9700 and oh boy does it suck! One year later and I *still* hate it, stupid smaller-4:3-aspect-ratio screen, stupid weak MONO speaker, stupid cramped keyboard, stupid bbmsn 5 (really miss 4.6) and the signal strenght is just worse. Too bad I traded a friend my old bold for a set of Klipsch speakers :(

I have been a windows mobile user for years and finally I decided to switch to a "Blackberry" after seeing its popularity over the years in the corporate world and nowadays anyone! After using it for barely 3 weeks, I am utterly disappointed!!! First, what is the BIG DEAL with blackberry phones other then the PUSH MAIL function and its impressive phone design which is distinctive??? Other than the common functions are similar to many smartphones these days, the MOST DISAPPOINTMENT THING.....IS THE APPLICATION MEMORY!!!! You cannot install apps on an external card!!!!! THIS IS STUPID!!!! I wonder how can Blackberry compete with other smartphones these days by limiting apps installation only on the application memory which is only 128MB????? Do not be fooled by the specs saying it has 1GB device memory... you cannot install apps on the 1GB device memory BUT only on the 128MB RAM! As your phone is running throughout the day, it uses RAM....so if you install many apps, it will prompt you memory low very soon! Which means mails and even SMSes cannot come in! A reboot is required! STUPID PHONE! Bold 9700 has 258MB....and the latest Torch has 512MB. The bottomline is...buying a Blackberry is solely for its name... I will use for a few more months and will switch to the ANDRIOD WORLD!

Does your sim card support 3G? Not all of them do, especially older ones. If it does, I'd suggest a hard battery pull or even a wipe, making sure you back up your files before hand. Hope that helps.

I love this BB Bold 9000:) Ive had it for many months and it is relatively trouble free. The screen is the best ive seen in phones(nokia, sony ericsson,samsung, O2) in the sense that it views real-life images great and the pixels are virtually invisible. Its also lightning fast, not much lag at all. The best thing about this bb is its audio output and sound quality..both are the clearest and sharpest in most of the phones ive used, including the bass, i've used nokia n70, e71, e51 and e90, samsung omniaII, Sony ericsson p990i, O2 XDA Exec and now BB bold 9000:)The only other great sound quality phone would be nokia e51.I highly recommend it!

3G problems. Once phone switches to 3g (lower case) from 3 G does not switch back, which results in emails not being delivered. Have to switch phone off and on. Get the bold 9000. Feature wise the storm is just as good as the bold but it seriously lacks functionality. As the screen clicks to let you know you have pressed a button on the storm, it makes it awkward to text on plus pressing buttons in the corner of the screen because of this.

Beware; mine was replaced 5 times in the first 12 months for a host of reasons. Mostly software but several hardware problems as well. given that i did not pay the exorbitant maintenance cost for 2 years, they told me on the 6th or 7th failure at month 15 that I needed to pay a $375 fee to have it replaced with yet another remanufactured piece of junk. Suffice to say, i did not choose to pay it. When my contract is up this December, I will purchase an iPhone or Droid. For now, I just use it without a ringer and live with the constant crashes. IMHO, you can do better...

hi... my GF uses bold 8900 while im using 9000... if you are a heavy user of YM, FB, tweeter,maps,GPRS, etc. you will have a huge problem with both phones regarding the battery... it will last for half a day at least and that's if you are not using it every minute... the camera in my bb 9000 is terrible... no auto focus and the flash is bad... in 8900 the camera is great! very clear in phone and in the computer.

how do i use wi-fi on this phone? i don't get it, i turn wi-fi on but when i try to use the browser it uses 3g network automatically...& if i turn 3g off with just wifi on, it says the radio of this device is turned off & blah blah blah but won't let me use the browser...this is my 1st blackberry, anyone can help please?

If you do go for the bold 9700, make sure to ask about the 7$ extra for the water damage coverage with your warranty. They have a lot of problems with water damage, I know from experience.. One little drop and your phone is basically useless. But other than that, I absolutely loved my blackberry bold 9700, it was slow sometimes, but has a decent battery life.

the bold is overall a good phone but being a buisness phone it does not have a dictaphone,and a few features like the area that we are located at it doesnot also show when the call has been conference with some one, bad battery but over all its a good phone, planing to go for the bold 9700 can any one suggest is it worth it.

Urgent .. I received a message on ((blackberry 9000)) messenger, its contents are important and I would like to save it and the information of who sent it and the date, etc. for future reference. I tried to save it and got the message, "saved to clipboard". Now how do I find this information? also if i receive new conversation and i want to save it in some place different than clipboard .. what i must do ... pls. in details (step by step).. thanks

Since the last upgrade, from OS4 to OS5, my battery is draining quick as hell when in 3G mode... I'm using 2G since that :S

Great phone overall. Eye pleasing and easy to use interface, a physical QWERTY which is great, and speaker/camera is okay, not exceptional. Good value for what you get atm.

Getting your contacts from the Nokia set to your BB is not that hard. Just install the BB desktop apps on your pc, preferably the V.5. Start the desktop app and plug in your nokia phone. Transfer your contact then unplug the nokia and plug your BB repeat the same process. You are done.
