Cat S40 - User Reviews

  • I am using the CAT40 for a few years now. It is a practical phone. Not the kind of phone you use as a fashion statement, although some people do think it is kind of hot or cool that you have CAT as phone. The screen is okay for email and some browsing but for more extensive online action you better get your tablet out.

  • It does what it says on the tin if you want more you pay more " Simples" I've used mine at work for 2 yrs now without any issues.

  • What did you expect with such a low quality screen and 1GB of RAM?

  • My honest advice to anyone that wanted to buy cat phone. Don't buy it cause you will regret it big time. I know cause I owned one.

  • GPS problems dont work offline after 3 mouths

  • Chronic failures in landscape mode. Camera rarely takes a photo over 2mb. NOTcompatible with MHL... you cant show anyone photos on a smart TV. i dropped it 32" from my desk, it hit the charger and put 2 cracks on the screen. I give the phone 1 star at best considering price. I find increasingly that manufacturers are prejudiced towards landscape mode. All should be forced to watch all their movies in portrait mode. Maybe in 20 yrs smart phones will actually be smart... but probably unlikely with a cloud overhead.

  • It won't switch on

  • i have this phone. it is so slow because of 1gb ram. Dont buy this phone if you want to play more than 2 games because that phone start lagging and now i dont have any game but still that phone is lagging so much i need to restart my phone 4 timas a day! Dont buy this phone if you want that your phone is fast and going smoothly! (this phone is lagging and it's very slow! (it's my opinion)

  • I don't recognize myself in the negative experience described. I've had CAT s40 with a SD 64 Gb card, for a year and it has been excellent. Sure, I know it's not the latest android. I know it doesn't hold the best or latest specs. But it works! Last summer I used it a as navigating tool while sailing regattas and fun sailing and it's been sprayed on by sea water more times than I can count. This winter I've used it daily skiing, in temperatures down to -17, and it has worked flawless. I have also lost it to the ground numerous time, and the screen has no scratch. I'm using an extra layer of armour shield on the screen just to be on the safe side. The case itself has only suffered one tiny scratch after all this abuse. The problems I have encountered, however, are due to poorly made apps, that either take to much space or even makes the android system shut down. Once uninstalling these poorly made apps, everything has run smoothly again. Don't remember the few that has caused an issue other than Adobe Lightroom that eats up an incredible amount of space cataloging your images. Even when uninstalled (after a backup) the catalogues had to be removed manually and took a lot of time. In retrospect I should have taken a backup of everything and reset to factory settings. Conclusion: A perfect phone for me and my outdoor lifestyle. O

  • It looks like a decent work phone. Had mine 2 hours and it froze on me. Have to keep holding the power key in till it restarts. Have to restart it every couple of hours now as it keeps locking up. Only extra apps I have is whatsapp and messenger. The same problems are happening with my work mates s40.. Pretty disappointed with this phone.

  • Such an obvious ad! Nice try thou.

  • It's not a good phone i have many problems of software, and it's xpensive. don't buy

  • Without doubt, the worst and most unreliable phone I ever owned...and the most expensive phone I ever bought ...my next phone is back to a Moto G

  • CAT supposed to be a good brand. Reviews are tormenting. Maybe one is better off purchasing a Redmi 4A, total value for money and great specs. Ultra fast and certainly reliable

  • Have had this phone for 2 days. It has froze at least 8 times already. Gonna call tech support Monday. It is very slow also. I hope there is a solution to these problems. I like the style of the phone.

  • I bought 2 cat S40 phones from Amazon. a year and few months later, the mics stopped working. I called the company for the repair and they mentioned it is out of warranty. I stated that I'm willing to pay for the replacement part but they refuse to support stating that this product discontinued - although they still sell it on their website and advise me to buy new one!

  • i have also experienced the same proble. it is becaus the charger is crappy. use a better power supply and cable.

  • I've used my S40 for 2 months now. It has a display and touch screen problems. When ever I'm charging my phone or using headphones, the display is going crazy clicking by itself, its even hard to type this comment. Im using original charger and JBL headphones. Also the aluminum frame and caps are quite weak, as i dropped off my lap onto asphalt and it bent. Anyone else know how i get my display back back normal?

  • Still loving this one! really affordable; Sadly is no more convenient anymore Right now there is some models with waaay better specs on the market for a little extra... the agm a8; as example ( the guy below inspired me xD ) the x1 is my next target, tho.

  • +1 to that. Price/performance is garbage, could have gotten a Samsung A3 and Aliexpressed a case. It even lags as I write this comment, christ...

  • Had the CatS40 for 18months. Several kwerky faults which annoy during use. After several hangups in last few months -self shut-downs after plugging in charger etc. Also phone often was 'shut down' when removed from pocket to make call. Have followed instructions from Bullitt and done factory reset 3 times since Xmas. Phone is now in with vendor for 2nd time in 2 months. Like the robust features and twin SIM but what good is all that when the phone is unreliable/lives it's own life? Would be a great product if it worked properly.

  • I have used S40 for 1 and half year now never give much problems only today that the phone screen pop up (DC check mode) when I was charging, currently I can't switch it on, only the white back ground and the CAT logo is displaying on it. Can somebody help me to solve this problem.

  • I have owned this phone for about a year and a half now, and it an absolute piece of garbage. I have had nothing but issues with this phone. Apps from the google play app store just dont function properly on it. It freezes all the time and has constant trouble finding gps. The only upside to it is that yes, It is very durable. I have dropped it many times and it hasn't shattered yet, however, this rugged reliability is useless when the hardware/software is completely unreliable to begin with. Never buy a CAT phone....ever!

  • Have it for almost 10 months now : PROS: Battery life is decent - Waterproofing is great - Quick start yellow button very handy - Virtually indestructible - Charges relatively fast - Very stable (Almost no need to restart at all) - dual sim feature is great - flashlight is good CONS: Response often very slow (especially in cold weather) - Sometimes it is very sensitive to touch, while scrolling through contacts it dials numbers by itself in the background Conclusion :This is a very reliable, worry-free rugged phone which withstands all the elements. It will give you a hard time if you do a lot of browsing and scrolling through pages due to the response time (I use it's tethering option to browse on my galaxy tab). I think it has difficulties in differentiating short and long screen touches). However being all year round in the mountains I am more than satisfied with this phone and I highly recommend it to active people.

  • Same problem!

  • Have S40 for 9 months now. On average not a bad product. Tow problems: - 1> sometimes it dial contact numbers by itself, 2> Battery lasts about 4 hours from fully charged.

  • Hi, yes, just bought and S40 and it has a default flashlight. Thanks

  • Hallo. S40 have flashlight or not? It is very important for my job. I have read some test that s30 have flashlight and s40 not.

  • my Cat S40 's screne has stal , what must I do ?

  • Phone works great for me in the irrigation field. Only problem is the answering part sometimes I have to lock and unlock it to answer a call. All and all quite a nice work phone. Had it for 6 months and no problems thus far.

  • Quality of the camera is so poor, dialler is hanging many times, sometimes opening the apps by itself, if u make passcode most of the time u can't answer the call u have to press the power button two times so u can answer, the sim cards drawer is so weak, two silver frames on the front side will be lost immediately. Not recommended

  • You probably have some app doing things in the background, I guess your battery also lasts les long?

  • i work out in the African bush. Phone is doing fine for me. have dropped it and tried to drown it a few times. absolutely great. some funny software jumping around. it has started to overheat lately. an ideas as to what causes that.

  • That is NOT fullhd and 60 fps camera, that is only 720p and 30 fps. Look at the cat website. + i own this phone.

  • Rugged phone brought from UK, but bad hardware, it hangs, and calling voice gets very low when in low signal area, I would prefer Nokia 1100 to cat s40 100 time cheaper

  • Dual sim is a must for me . works sweet. No trouble at all.

  • i like this phone..howeve i want to knwo where can i take it for repaires whenever it get damaged in anyway..

  • No inductive charging like the S50 but the phone is very laggey the S30 is a much better bet i have sent 4 S40's back because of the unusable performance

  • does it support wireles charging and what charger should i choose, if it does?

  • dual SIM yes or not

  • What is the FCC ID and/or IC Certification number for this device?

  • it should float and come with a cup holder I wonder if you guys are serious it's a work phone not a samsung s6 it should come with a Snapdragon 510 4 gigs of ram and a 10Ah battery. then I could play video games while operating heavy equipment

  • it should float and come with a cup holder

  • Not very user friendly

  • I think it's pricey for its specs and features. Most of the phones in this range of price are durable enough esp the phones which have gorilla glass 4 as protection. I like this brand but not this phone.

  • I think it's pricey for its specs and features. Most of the phones in this range of price are durable enough esp the phones which have gorilla glass 4 as protection. I like this brand but not this phone.

  • Its got flash and radio..

  • no LED Flash and radio? why CAT?

  • if you had B15 you will be very disappointed. Software confusing, side buttons too soft, not so good for mans of work as B15. For CAT phones this was one step back.

  • i been having s40 for a month now (need it, i work in a refinery construction site). humidity? over 75% all the time. Dust? you cannot see clearly during daylight! heat? temp.? over 40 deg. c in the shade. and the phone? honestly guys i haven't seen anyone of the problems you mention. no problem installing 2 sims. no shutting down by itself. easy to answer incoming calls. camera? not bad (it is not a Minolta or a Canon of course!). frankly, i am satisfied.

  • nice

  • I'd rather buy a S6 Active.

  • as a work phone do not need a flagship specs. I like it. pretty good.

  • going to buy it 4 my next moon travel

  • snapdragon 210? you are Fu King kidding me?

  • good phone

  • There is a minor setting in the software that has to be changed to fix the problem. They have also done a fix on the software so just need to run a software update.

  • Recently purchased the S50 only to find the software would not allow any storage of data to the SD card. Sent it back and have accepted the S40 (on route via courier) as a replacement without extra charge. I am however concerned now, having read (on here) that its Lollipop technology wont allow caller display and you cant answer incoming calls! Is this true? Has anyone else experienced such problems?

  • Struggled to to get the sim tray open. Android lollipop has a bug that prevents the dialer from displaying when somebody phones you, in other words you can not answer incoming calls. The rest of the phone is excellent otherwise.

  • no qi ?? 1 gb ram ? why?!

  • It does if you out it in a seal bag full of air. Do you really have to ask that?

  • What makes you ask so.

  • Does it float on water?

  • Why low pixel density O_o

  • Hope the phone has a good battery with at least 2 days.
