Cat S41 - User Reviews

  • The S41 was released in September of 2017. I am very curious if there might be a "Cat S42" coming out in the very near future. I hope there is and I also hope Bullitt Group has been taking to heart the feedback from real-world users to build an improved product. I am particularly interested to see if any new releases from Bullitt Group will now incorporate Blackberry security software. I'm waiting!

  • Allright, I bought the S41 because I was fed up being fooled by premium smartphonebrands stating theire phone's where water and shockproof. I proved them wrong tho. I've had samsungs, motorola's (was quite in love with those) and finally a sony (which was a piece of sh*t). Because of work (mechanic) and outdoor activities I decided it was time for a potato phone. I gave up speed and good image(camera) quality. But after using the phone for roughly two years, it's safe to say this is the best phone ive ever had. It's almost indestructible and when dirty I just wash it with brakecleaner:) About the trouble with GSM: it's NOT the phone was with someone who had a new samsung which also didn't have connection. Bluetooth works fine, battery life is good and its absolutely drop and waterproof. A little negative point is the camera; the quality sucks, but i dont need it that often. So if you're looking for a reliable phone that doesnt cost that much: buy this one.

  • I love this phone how can I get my screen and charge in Kenya.

  • I have one, and really disappointed. Never again a cat. I will go back again to Huawei. My phone signal is sooo bad. Its slow, camara is a desastre.

  • Hi, To add up to Miclovan. I have used CAT S41 for a year and a half now. My experience is mixed, which is a shame because the phone has good potential. 1) I have never had problems with mobile signal, sometimes when my friends lost connection I still had some signal left. GPS works, but it could be better as Miclovan said. 2) Yea, the camera is poor when not in a bright environment. It is also slow. 3) Software and software updates are, in my opinion, the weakest link with CAT S41. Software updates did include some nasty bugs over time, like problems with microSD card. Those nasty bugs were solved some months(!) later, but minor issues remain. Like indicator LED that is not working from the first update. It really gives you feeling they don't give a shit about improving the software. They just forward security fixes from google every few months.

  • 1) Mine doesn't have problems with mobile signal (GSM or 4G LTE, works good) I was nitpicking about the GPS signal quality because it could be better by today's standards, when some phones can pick a GPS signal even inside a few meters from the windows, as demonstrated by test programs which show levels in dbHz - the GPS antenna is not very good in CAT S41. This not enough to get you lost, it's just annoying if you were spoiled by a phone with better GPS quality like Galaxy S8 or S9. If you want to do geocaching, the always decalibrated and trembling compass doesn't help either. 2) Camera is really poor, forget about it if it's not a very bright environment. 3) I had some problems with Oreo which went away after I disabled Wi-Fi scanning / Bluetooth scanning which supposedly works even Wi-Fi/Bluetooth are disabled just to improve location service.

  • Hi guys, I am from south Africa. I would like to buy the CAT S41 phone, but from what i am reading here, it has so many problems. i have tried to summarize the problems i read from you all and the possible questions thereof: 1) Connectivity to Network: It does not pick up network signal well; and it is not picking up the GPS signal well. Question 1: Is it always losing GSM network or what? 2) Photo: I hear you guys saying Camera (both front and back) are poor, but the phone specifications say (front = 5MP + flash; Back = 13MP + flash). Question 2: so how bad are the pictures, compared to those of an Iphone 6s? 3) The Software: I hear you guys saying that the new software OREO is causing disaster on the phone: home buttons not working, battery percentage display, automatic connection to wifi not working, contacts disappearing, ...etc. Question 3: Is the latest software available already and if so, were these problems solved in the new software? Please give me some answers here, i want to know whether to buy the phone or not. Thank you all.

  • Any thoughts on NFC performance?

  • It's been almost 4 months I've got my cats41 it does fine i loved it, very durable, i dropped into swimming pool a few times still works fine battery does good as well, the only issue is the home button which stopped working after updating to Oreo besides that alls good, yes and the camera isn't great. You know it wasn't meant to taking great pictires.

  • You can buy Cat phones at Safaricom or Rugged Equipment

  • where do i find the phone in kenya

  • Not according to their customer service. Phones sold to US customers have a one year warranty.

  • You know it comes with a two year warranty?

  • My experienced with the S41 has been a mixed bag. The display was good. The phone was admirably durable. Overall size was good, especially considering the type of phone it is. Performance was hit and miss; as a smartphone it was respectable, but as a phone it did not have the best connectivity I've experienced. The camera is simply terrible, it has no redeeming features unfortunately. I purchased mine at preorder and got a year and a half out of it before it simply stopped working and stopped charging. Ultimately, I will not be replacing this phone with another S41 or likely another CAT.

  • Maybe because you don't know to read ? I complained about compass and GPS signal. Do I need to spell it for you ?

  • Well, I've had the phone since its launch and I'm quite pleased with it. But there has been some bad updated along the way, just last summer there was a update that made the phone crash when it had a SD-card inserted, and then some minor "downgrades" on the feature side before. Furthermore, I'm a bit disappointed about both the camera and the reception, which has been lacking somewhat in performance. Otherwise it has shown to be a perfectly good cellphone with a great battery time, bright screen and a tough construction!

  • Hi guys, is the only issue the OREO OS (android 8) experience, apart from that does it work fine ?

  • That's a good phone. I don't know what you are complain here.

  • Disapointed in GPS signal quality, also that despite Helio P20 supporting Galileo, the CAT S41 does not show any Galileo satellites. Asked CAT support about it and they said that Galileo is not in phone specifications - useful, that. Also the compass is completeley stuck now, doesn't even offset to 90 degreees error like before. Crap phone for geocaching.

  • Also the alarm rings on wrong time (basically 2-4 mins later). BT doesn't work well. Camera in Viber is lagging. But I don't have problems with contacts. After I have started to use Charger Tester app, I have no problems with charging (but I think the phone is charging about 2 times longer). As much I am reading about cat phones, as much I find they all have software problems. CAT (company) should kick out the guy who is responsible for this! F**king HARD kick! :D

  • The tips really work for me thank you ..the think is that you have to keep the little window .. or every time you want to used the app you must follow the steps again..hopefully will be resolve during the next update. Thank you again

  • with Android 8 Its a BLAST! (yes I know its a very slow phone), battery life went way up for me, can do 5 days no problem, yes its a tool, so short calls, calender, sms, no youtube or net browsing. with android 7 bluetooth drained around 80% of my battery when turned on, problem solved with A8.

  • Solution to Android Auto connection problem under Oreo 1.- Turn on developer option. This is how to do it. a) Settings b) System c) About Phone d) Hit several consecutive times on build number and you will have turn on the developer option. 2.- Now go back to Settings-System Hit developer options 3.- Go to Simulate secondary displays 4.- Select 480 p. 5.- Exit settings 6.- Plug your phone into the usb connection of your car It should be up and working. 7. Tl get rid of the little window on your phone, select None on Simulate secondary displays.

  • after installing this oreo thing, all calls are dropped and some Telkom mobile APN settings are deleted. Apps do not start normally. Device reboots itself. Some simcards do not register to their respective network providers.

  • Great Android 8 is on mine now! and i dint even want it, because the ui is so goddamn slow! and there is no way back? great just efing great

  • Have you all tried a factory reset? If you've lost your contacts etc then it won't hurt to do one anyway. You can restore from your latest backup.

  • Android Auto problem is known. They plan to fix it in the next release, due soon.

  • guys badly need help on this oreo update disaster. 1. contacts wont sync as all contacts was wiped out after update 2. all messages are gone 3. home button does not work and the lower right button does not work aswell 4. notifications are not working 5. and bunch of other none working features after the update first time to encounter such as disaster update.

  • So many issues to list down. Below are the obvious 1. Contacts from Google account won't sync. Completely remove from. Pho e 2. Home and right corner button working 3. Notification not working 4. All messages are gone

  • DO NOT UPDATE CAT S41 TO OREO. You have been warned. Updated my Cat S41 to Oreo 8.0, phone now crashes when I plug it into my Pioneer SPH-DA230DAB vehicle stereo. Cannot get Android Audio to run on stereo screen. Updated firmware on the stereo and still the same. Initially started up in German and would boot up in German every time it was re-started even when I had installed English and deleted German language, as others are reporting, a factory reset solved this. Unable to sync calendar with Outlook. the list goes on...

  • Loaded latest Android update last night, 29th and restarted again today after adding second sim and my Cat s41 started up in Austrian German, seems to do that everytime now, then i have to return it to British english, ans set my fonts to large agai which it reverts to normal?

  • Bugs after upgrading to Oreo: 1. Wireless cannot reconnect after sleep sometimes, it's trying hard every known network in range and fails with "authentication error". Toggling ON/OFF doesn't help. Sometimes you need to restart to reconnect wireless. 2. Battery percent is not always correct when displaying the battery discharge graph, it's sometimes stuck to percent since last restart. 3. Google Search bar in home screen that cannot be removed or moved, and also DOESN'T WORK - no reaction to touch.

  • Hi Bob, Unfortunately, nothing new since my last post...

  • While I welcome very much that Cat provides a major update (Oreo) for the Cat S41, I feel a bit unsure to proceed with the update since here I only read about negative experiences and there seem to be no way to revert the update in case I won't be satisfied with it. Is there anyone who updated to Oreo and can report postive?

  • I'm from Bulgaria

  • Hi Dan, Did you ever get this resolved. I have the exact same problem. One has also not got an option to change the home screen

  • Please help me.How to remove Oreo and go back to Nougat in my Cat s41

  • Hi, if you are from Malaysia and looking for CAT S41, you can call us at 1700-81-7531. Cutz Technologies Sdn Bhd- official distributor for CAT phones in Malaysia.

  • Yea, the LED works. The problem is that you cannot change the LED color. It was disabled in one of the first updates for the phone and was not reintroduced later. The customer support always says they will think about it.

  • Definetely ! Hope the guys at Bullit will soon release a new version or switch back to previous one. My phone escaped my control, can't get rid of the search bar on the home screen, even with google app deactivated, nor those white circles under app's icons... Too many parameters everywhere... anywhere.

  • Oreo for cat s41 full rubbish...how to get back Nougat?

  • Have you tried checking the notification settings? It's working perfectly on the my one.

  • Yes, but still the LED does not work... :(

  • Good news!! Today (20 dec 2018), it has been updated to Android 8.0.0 Oreo.

  • Wow... This is great! Good mid-range specs!

  • I bought the CAT S41 in November 2017. After a year of experience with this phone, I can say that everything works perfectly. First of all, I would mention a GSM arena error in connection with this phone, it is stated that the TFT screen, which is not true, is the IPS LCD technology. The phone was very harsh, he had 5 falls with about half a meter (two of the most dangerous were from a half meter to a concrete and a ceramic floor, and there was nothing to him). Also, the battery lasts for 7 days of normal use. This summer, I tried the underwater camera and made great underwater shots. The LEDs work fine ... green for a charged battery, blue for the received message and a call, red for a spent battery and a purple color ... (I forgot why it was;)). Software updates come every 3 months. I bought an additional 64 GB micro SD card, so I put everything on it, to leave those internal 30 GB only for the Android 7.0 operating system and its updates, so that I would not load the data and slow down the processor. You do not need any protective masks for this phone, because it is very resistant to dirt and falls up to a maximum meter, and this is ideal for easy whiskers. I would also mention very good LED flash light lapm... As I received a written notice from the CAT manufacturer, only phones made in China are original phones, because they are the only factory there. That's what they confirmed to me. All in all, I have no objections to this phone and I would certainly recommend it to everyone.

  • why? can you tell me?

  • CAT S48c is out!

  • should i buy this phone??

  • The phone is not as good as it seems at first.

  • I am using this phone for 8 months as a geologist in the field works rough conditions , but unfortunately i dropped it and broke its Screen and here in Iran I cant find anywere its Screen

  • I purchased Cat S41 about 2 months ago because I work in construction in the south, where it is very hot and wet. Very disappointed. The phone randomly decides whether to receive calls. Texts always come through. In my house, shows full bars and sometimes will ring and sometimes not (from same number)

  • latest update fixes that problem..

  • The specs really aren't that bad

  • Same problem. After inserting microSD card, phone doesn't work until microSD put out of the phone.

  • After update firmware automatically,it keeps reboot until removed micro SD card..

  • I remember this brand as a heavy equipment machine only but I love it.. mwah

  • I have a problem about led notification ive tried factory reset ive tried hard reset theres no happen, only blue led color for the notification hope they are solve this problem.

  • Why all notification led color only blue please gave update to this.

  • Its so sensetive becouse its set to be used with glows try changins setting if you want to you smarthpone made for rugged jobs for daily web browsing ! if thats the case - this phone ain't for you ! I like screen sensitivity you don't have to take off gloves whenever I need something ! Had no problems with wi-fi you should take phone to warranty check ! CAT smartphone got realy good warranty repair they like when you point some problems they got and they list them to improve in next mobel ! I really like how every next models improves discovered problems and most likely they will give you new phone (thay gave me new phone cuz I found screen problem) of course if you havent trying abusively break it !

  • Don't buy this phone. Reasons: *SCROLLING: is crap. Ever so often when scrolling the screen desides that you just pressed it, witch results in unwanted pictures, posts etc. *INTERNET & WIFI: Every time you disconnect from a wifi it doesn't connect on its own, so you have to activate flightmode and then disable it to get 4/3G. It looses connection to 4/3G all the time and you have to use the same procedure to get connected again. *SPELLING AID: Is useless and the touchscreen keyboard is constantly bugging making it nearly impossible to actually send texts. *SUMMARY: Even more shitty than iphone.

  • Yes, it does..

  • this phone really resistant. I have dropped it lots of times and still works

  • did you ever consider buying a hiking watch from garmin or other companies? Might be more practical.

  • You should have a look at Land Rover Explore..

  • As usual.....

  • So I got my s41 yesterday. Loving the phone . .... Led notification was working 100% but now I did the 403mb update and now the led stays blue !!!

  • If your S41 battery lasts less long than an S40 you either have a faulty phone, but more likely you are using apps that drain your battery, have a look at what uses your battery power..

  • Howzit guys , tell me what would you go for the s41 or s31 (s41 is pretty much the same as the S60 just no thermal plus slightly smaller battery )

  • They issued a new update. Light still not managable...

  • Lol I've have the Cat S60 since launch and the led only changes from blue to orange or red ,when the battery is low ..... Tough phone

  • I agree! When I bought my S41 it was perfectly working. Let's wait and hope...

  • not yet, I wrote to CAT service support and they reply with an email saying that for the moment is not posible to change the color of the led (notifications) and that they are working on a solution that will come in the next software update. I hope is soon, is a pity that being this phone expensive , something so simple and so useful is not available. Regards

  • Did you solve your led problem? I have just the same issue. The Company suggested me to reboot the phone but I have no time to reinstall everything....

  • Hi! I upgrated My s41 And Now Even if I set app notification led on different colour, its always blue...

  • I just had the phone a week and it constantly loses its mobile signal and also the mobile data signal is lost when the cell signal is on. This happens in my home, whereas I never had this problem with my old phone. I have to constantly turn on airplane mode then turn it off to restart my data service. Annoying

  • This phone has 2 major weaknesses for my intended use (hiking in forests and mountains) 1. GPS is imprecise, always adjusting position tens and even hundreds of meters. It takes at least 30 seconds AFTER FIX for GPS to stabilize. Altitude can be offset by 200 meters and it is not adjusted, this huge error can be maintained whole day. I checked real altitude with map, my previous calibrated altimeter watch Casio PRW-3100 and an external GPS logger Canmore GT-750F with Sirf IV chipset. Signal levels from satellites reported by various programs (in dBm) are lower than other phones eg. my old Galaxy S4 . This is especially bad in cities, it places you a few streets away. 2. Compass needs calibration on every use, and even with this is not consistent - on a perfectly horizontal surface North as indicated by this compass depends on phone orientation - I keep the phone on the same spot on table and rotate it - and voila ! the North is now to my left as opposed to my right where it should be.

  • I also have that problem, it happens I think after an update, when I just bought it, I was able to choose different colors for whasaup, messenger, outlook, but now, all notifications are blue, even if in the configuration I have chosen any other color.

  • Bought s41 the worst phone ever. No help from company would not recommend them to anyone too many problems. Volume dies contacts vanish letters disappear brightness disappears no come back from company

  • Foremost, please note, CAT S41 is only an empty claim. I have it, I just bought it past month. There's No Android 7.1, it's only 7.0 which is not upgradable to 7.1, 8.0 or 8.1...!!! 2) the battery is draining very fast, the discharge rate is very bad and I'm not satisfied. The manufacturer has claimed it works as best, but to compare my previous CAT S40, the CAT S41 is baddest.! It makes its battery less than a day. To compare with CAT-S40, the S41 has a lot of claimed added values, but unfortunately it's just an another wrong step. I'll leave CAT brand and I'll claim against the producer soon.

  • When the upgrade to Android Oreo will be realesed ?

  • I will, thank you.

  • Hey--- looks like a hw issue; ask for a device replacement ASAP.

  • Hello, just a question please: Does your CAT S41 loses its signal at enclosed places, where other mobiles work normally ?

  • Hello everybody. I bought it a month ago, but my Cat S41 has a big problem. Actually, at a lot of enclosed places, even though with windows, where other mobiles works normally having perfect signal, this one doesn't have signal. I used the same SIM card to enother mobile at the same places, the signal was OK, the mobile worked good. I resetted factory setting but the problem still remains. Has anyone had the same problem with me ? Can someone help me what to do ?

  • Maybe someone has the same problem. Cat s41 is good but problem is that people can't call to me. I can call for everyone but they can't, always no signal. What problem could be? The after-sales service says the mobile phone is good and everything works, but other people still can't call me. The SIM card is good, because i get callings to other mobile phone.

  • Hey guys, Does anybody have trouble with changing that little LED color settings? I am unable to change it to anything apart from default behavior. Tnx

  • Yes it was installed

  • When you purchased the S41, did you receive it with screen protector installed on the screen ??

  • I have to say, all those things, and speaker problems as well. I purchased two. I will try the other out because the one I am using cannot be relied on. I purchased then for use in security, but Bluetooth is problematic and so is the speaker.

  • Hey guys .... I want to know if you have received the S41 with screen protector applied already on the screen ? I received mine like that and batter performance was very bad and returned it back.

  • Can I set it so that it always uses SIM1 for some contacs and always SIM2 for the other? I want to use it with my work SIM and private SIM and don´t want the hassle of choosing which SIM for each call and SMS.

  • Dude.. Have U ever test app like bluetooth auto conect? Or somthing like that for Ur problem.. I realy confUzd.. I wanna buy this phone but some comment like problem with pairing or calling ins 41 making me more confused.. Whats Ur oppinion? What should i do.. Buy it or not

  • Had it for a month. Also have the bluetooth problem. Music works via bt, but while calling, sound and mic stop working after few minutes. The reception is problematic. The signal dissapeares from time to time. My friends tell it's impossible to call me cause i don't have reception. Battery life used to be superb, after one month i can tell that it's not that good anymore. It doesn't show any apps abuse the battery. The screen is too sensitive. Accidental taps are common. You don' t have to touch the screen for input. Writing is complicated thanks to that. Going to return the phone.

  • I've had S41 for about 2 months. Don't complain. Fcking great rugged phone. So far everything works as it should. I like it. My next phone will definitely be a CAT.

  • had two s41 since 2017 october 20. both phones had the same bt problem - disconnects everytime when you are talking for about 10s from headphone. at that time you hear nothin, and no one hears you. and most times everyomne ends f...in call. even if you are not talking it losts connection for few sec. on 19th of january i brought phone to official fix center, and they gave me DAP. so now i'm thinking of samsung s8 active.

  • guys does this cat s41 supports volte for reliance jio band. .that is fdd 850 here in India? ??please quick response expected

  • Hi hyak Can u be more specific with the Bluetooth problem? Can u tell us please whatÂ’s wrong with the Bluetooth? Thank u

  • Yes they work at the same time, you will set a preferred sim for data tho, so you cant use "double data" when surfing the web

  • I have had frequent trouble with the bluetooth, I'm sending the phone back as of 1/4/2018 to see what can be done. I like the phone a lot but the bt problem might be a deal breaker. I'll post back here as things progress.

  • Hi all, do you know the meaning of: Dual SIM stand by? Are both working same time, my contracted one and my regional prepaid. contracted shall receive calls and SMS, regional ones for outgoing calls and data. e.g. For transfering money of my bank account mobile banking TAN on incoming SMS on contracted SIM, data on prepaid SIM. Thanks for help, want to buy soon if it works

  • Few days ago i disconected it from the charger friday 6:20 in the morning. It lasted the whole friday, saturday and sunday. with normal use, with data on 80% of time and wifi the other 20%. i used it to take some pictures through the weekend, used google maps and browsing web for everything that i needad that day. i was surprised. i think the best phone from cat so far

  • What about battery life? How long can last between charges?

  • Phenomenal phone, very reliable, excellent GPS, brilliant software, so rugged it could take on Mike Tyson without breaking a sweat., very pleased, top marks :o)

  • My Cat S41 connects to my cars and to headphones by Bluetooth but the connection is poor with frequent glitches. Chromecasting is also unstable.

  • this phone can survive the rapture and apocalypse

  • Does it pair with car bluetooth?

  • I have owned this be phone for about 2 months. So far so good. No complain at all

  • No, it does not have.

  • Does it have that sound you can't disable when taking photos?

  • Yes. It does have light notifications. The cable length is 117 cm.

  • Hey there. Is the USB connector of normal length or one of those deep/long ones? Does it have LED notifications for missed calls, unread message etc?

  • Hi guys, i am interested to buy CAT S41. I would like to know if the software is polished up. I have CAT S30 which is physically a good phone but software is buggy as hell and pain in the ass. Can someone who has a S41 say something about the software quality?

  • Have used it for a week now. The Bluetooth connection to my car is very unstable and I loose both calls and music. Otherwise quite ok so far.

  • Even if a microusb port is waterproof you cannot charge the phone while it's wet (or use it in any other way). Having a usb cover meants you can use the port as soon as you take it out of water/dust/mud etc.

  • Try Clove in the UK..

  • peace of mind phone, ni heart attack phone

  • Does anyone know what EU company is selling them with international shipping?

  • Depends where you are, available in most of Europe now

  • when is this fone coming out for sale in the market? i want to buy this fone as soon as its in the store.

  • This fone really strong

  • and yet still needs covers on usb

  • at last a cat phone worth of buying
