HTC Advantage X7500 - User Reviews

  • I am agreed, total

  • MircoSD card,wot!??

  • So I see, this was the device which started this mad and moronic race for large screen phones. Why HTC...why? The cellphone world could have been a much better place if you had never brought this huge abomination into the market, now look what you've done, now there are huge and unwieldy phones with elephantine screens everywhere.

  • There is a 3.5mm jack. it's an HTC proprietary band order, though, so on standard stereo earphones the right and left are reversed, and one with a microphone won't work.

  • please can any1 tell me what memory adapter fits in the htc athena x7500

  • I failed to insert the simcard for the HTC x 7500 even after fe moving the battery,I don't knowthe if you insert the simcard directly to it's slot or I have to insert in another device(simcard carrier)please assist,if possible send me the videos showing what and how to do

  • To insert the SIM card you will need to remove battery 1st. To Remove battery pull little metal Clip downwards then pull battery out. after that you will be able top flap open the sim card slot. insert the sim card as shown in the picture under slot. close sim card slot, insert battery push the clip back in, close the door and away go.

  • I want to start using my 7500 again, but struggle to open the slot to insert simcard. Can please somebody assist me?

  • I have the X7510 and would love to upgrade the OS can you please tell me the proceedure. Thanks, Chris

  • it's a great handset

  • Once more @EXPERIENCE_TROY20055 OMG! Man you have a SMARTPHONE for Our Lord's sake! Out of the box it may be somewhat limited, but it is up to the user to tweak it as per ones liking in order to get whatever he wants. Regarding the web page resolution - just get Opera Mobile or uZardWeb browsers (I personally prefer the latter) and you will have what's called SmartZoom - the browser itself zooms the page to such a scale as to fit the screen just like on a normal PC. If you what to observe a particular section you can simply double-tap there an you will get a full zoom. Aside - I bought a Blutooth mini-mouse, connected it to my X7500 and now the web browsing for me is as comfortable as on a "big machine".

  • @EXPERIENCE_TROY20055 C'mon - don't be such a noob :) This device had no problem whatsoever playing DiVX/XViD/H.264 videos in HD 720p resolution. No convertion is required at all! Just download the FREEWARE player TCPMP RC1 or later, set your video options to "ATI Radeon" and here you go. Official page of TCPMP is here - , but you can google for many unofficial releases supporting even wider range of codecs and features.

  • stay away from this if possible -----------bad things----------- 1 its nice however just like an iphone the videos have to converted with software 2 i tryed converting to 3gp however 3gp just works if the size is 176 x 100 and this is so small that in full screen you wont want to see it anymore 3 its verry slow for videos 4 screen is 640 x 480 so its big in size but with that resolutions web pages dont fit anyway -----------good things----------- 1 the screen is biguer than average cellphone 2 it looks good 3 i still cannot think on good things because with a cpu like that and just 128mb ram its too slow

  • like it very much. bought two. also known as athena or dopod u1000 or tmobile ameo. i carry it like a small wrutung pad. always in hand. good for doing word, excel, power point. can install flaslight program to use in dark. the camera is very clear. but only for still objects. good for watching movies etc. better than netbook. netbook is larger and not so portable. it's at least 2.5x lighter than netbooks but heavier than normal phone. not expected to carry inpocket. on belt, yes. more for business use for multimedia.

  • super phone with a great designe, very good battery! if you found it in a store buy it!!!

  • i have had this for 18 month now.and find it really good on battery. it is one of the best p.d.a i everher had.

  • Dirk, go here: You'll find everything you need for this beauty. I'm using for over 10 month with a modified ROM (WM 6.1 Pro) and I NEVER HAD a problem with it (despite the battery life)! Best miniPC/handheld ever. I have also an iPhone 3G (I'm very satisfied with it); but, if the day will come, I will sell immediately the iPhone! Never the X7500! Cheers.

  • I think the price may be 599 pounds

  • A great phone full of features, GPS works well with Tomtom and IGO8. However battery life is poor and the battery cover is not good quality. I have had to send my device back to HTC within warranty because it kept switching off for due to the battery being loose. The battery comes loose as there is a very fragile pin keeping it in place, which easily breaks. Even after repair my X7500 still switches off if it is in my pocket whilst walking. Ensure you have a screen protector as well else the screen will scratch easily. The keyboard and body have a satin balck finish but this wears off quickly with use, exposing the bare metal beneath. Also be aware that the magnets on the keyboard and device will easily wipe any plastic cards which are near it, so don't put it by your wallet! In conclusion a very useful phone with plenty of memory and features but the finish could have been better, it has a disappointing build quality for a phone of over 600/$1000.

  • is this a phone?

  • dirk just go to www.htc.com support from there you can update to win6 .......use condom guys..lool

  • It looks to complicated. The options are not satsfying

  • ya.. I know how.. It only needs software to upgrade.. I know where it can be found.

  • Indeed pekpek ... there is a touchscreen qwerty keyboard on the screen feature, even in landscape modus. You can leave the keyboard at home, lol.

  • The best there is, even now a year after introduction, still unbeatable !! Fastest CPU and GPU, biggest screen, full qwerty, expandable memory, full VGA and so on. iPhone wont even come close lol. Full laptop capacity in a handpalm ! Anyone knows if it is possible upgrading to Win Mobile Pro 6 ?? And how ? Greetings.

  • You have to remove the battery to be able to change/insert the SIM. Else the SIM cover won't open correctly. I had some minor problems with it the first time around, then i got used to it.

  • I used to change mobiles every 2 or 3 months, but after I bought X7500 I`m still using it with great confidence since 8 months & really enjoying my time at office and home. This mobile is great.

  • any body know how to install the sim to its place thanks

  • hello had same problem on my mda vario 111 .water gets between screen and intervace only way out is to send back to network .i had my handst exchanged.

  • i like it

  • anyone have trouble with the touchscreen...mine wont work tried to hard reset...now i cant get it to load pass the screen that ask to tap screen to set up wm based device....any ideals...HELP...please...

  • This is the most advanced handset I ever had! Not so convenient for making/receiving calls (due to its weight) but as performance and everything else, this device simply ROCKS! Is the best device I have seen with so many features and functionality alltogether.

  • On occassions when you don't want to use it's hardware keyboard, is there a touchscreen qwerty on this phone? I think the keyboard is nice when you're surfing the web, but it can be a burden if you just want to send a quick text message and have to set this device on a flat surface everytime you need to send someone a text message or reply to one.

  • the worst mobile i have ever seen because of improper arrangement of listening the call

  • I found all the settings n m currently using it on 3 network! this handset rocks, but its a little bit clumsy carrying it around. But I like it a lot.

  • @ G: I've heard a few complaints about the device not recognizing the hard drive. On xda-developers site, they listed some way to fix it. The new x7510 has 3 major advantages over the x7501. The improved, less tiresome keyboard, the new 16 GB flash memory rather than 8GB microdrive, and finally the software, mainly the htc home (finger- friendly today screen). However, the x7510 has less hardware buttons, including the joystick. I've heard rumors of USA prices of x7510 anywhere from $800 - $1400. Pretty much ,if you can afford either one, if you plan to use the keyboard - go with x7510. If you don't plan to use the keyboard, the x7501 is probably better. Either one is going to be a great device. Personally, I would rather have the x7510. But i'm probably about to buy an x7501, because i'm tired of waiting and I found a nice price on one.

  • Did anyone have a problem with the HDD .. and what do you think about the 7510 upgrade .. is it worth to pay extra for Flash Drive instead Microdrive ?

  • I have this handset in uk, I have installed Tom tom, apps, Etc. • can anyone tell me if you can watch you tube on this phone!!!!!!!

  • yesterday i removed a program related to tv browser the program was uninstalled but its icon still persists on the programs page what should i do to remove this icon?

  • Wow this is a fabulous phone. Been using it since 2 weeks now. Played around with it a lot flashed it 3 times now. This device is fast and responsive! so many softwares awailable come usefull as the only thing lacking in thsi beautiful device is the OS WM6 which apparently does not make out the complete use of this device. U can achieve so much from this hardware conf but WM6 limits it. Wish we can install some other OS to push it to the limit

  • the price is 700$

  • Initially I had a negative impression the first time it was shown in one electric shops here in Tokyo due to size and weight. After reading most impressive comments on this unit, I tested it at the shop and bought because it is simply amazing. I have a Nokia N95 8G and E90, but I consider them equal because each unit has its own character. If you are after for Windows mobile pda phone this is the best if weight does not really matter. A five-star for HTC X7501.

  • It is an excellent device and the customer service in north africa are extremely perfect, and they helped me simply with my issue in the bluetooth connection !! HTC are difinitly my Favourite handsets everrr !!

  • price is over $600 (and much more) even on ebay.

  • It was an excellent device overall. But my set crashed almost 10 to 15 times daily. The bluetooth connection could even go off on its own and my set starts blasting music. One thing is for sure, HTC Customer Service is extremely bad. They could not get my issues resolved. In the end, I got a refund for my product and got a Nokia E90. I miss the Dopod U1000. Get one if you don't mind the occasional crashs and bluetooth problems. If not for these two problems, the U1000 is excellent.

  • Excellent Phone. 9.5 out of 10. Can anyone tell me the price?

  • Its really beautiful cell phobe just like mini laptop. It is surely one of the best beautifully and sensablly designed digital devie for mobile users who are mostly in travel. I must appreciate the company engineers and designers for developing this product. Would like to see its side and back view, if it could be display on net. Thanks

  • Hello. i may have a possible solution in regards to watching youtube videos on your device. now if you have upgraded to wm6 then this problem should not exist as they have a proper streaming player. but if you're still running off of wm5 then go to xda-developers.com and find 2 programs called 'htc streaming media', and 'htc streaming player', this should solve any streaming problems as these programs support rtsp. i have them installed on my htc phone(not advantage)and it works just fine. sorry i dont have a direct link but its easy to find on xda-developers.

  • Hi Jerry, I cracked up reading your very informative and endearing comment about HTC Advantage x7500. I'm curious of what you think about HTC Shift x9500 to be launched in January 2008.

  • Extremely powerful device!!! ----PLUS POINTS--- 1)Replacing my IPOD Nano- Now I keep MP3 with my 8G MicroDrive+ 4GB MiniSD 2)Replace my old TomTom GPS,just as good. 3)Replace my Arcos 404 for watching movies(Not porn),and its now on 5inch VGA!Cristal clear 'Action'! 4)Replace my Laptop when I do presentation in Meetings!!And it is instant on!No more waiting. 5)Replace my SonyErricson P990.And Handsdown to this baby!! 6)Microsoft Word, Excel,PDF on the go. 7)Internet via Opera, Excellent!! Ohoh..The coolest part is when I do Powerpoint presentation with this baby on the projector! The coolness frosted whole room!!! And No tedius bootup, and setup, and endless awkard waiting as compare with Laptop! Great Keyboard with good feedback, when you activate the keyboard-sound in the setting, where it will play a 'clicking sound' when you type. ---Negative point--- 1) My 'toothed or edged' stylus scratch-open a gap on my screen protector.Very Dangerous!!Poor quality stylus. 2) The clear screen on the keyboard is very easily scratched, so bear in mind to keep those plastic stickers on the keyboard, after you took this baby out of the box. 3) Extremely hard to get accessories! 4) Took tooooo much time to admire this piece of gem, I mean my time.Even after 6 months! Its a beauty when you hold it in person!

  • the Best but no video resolution

  • It is an excellent phone. I bought it few days back. Upgraded the software and it ROCKS! Cool stuff. Highly recommended.

  • Where can I download the RealVGA software?

  • I've been an extremely satisfied customer of this phone for about 8 months now. I have upgraded the OS to WM6, installed iLauncher to have direct access to all applications and settings from the desktop; installed a phone profile application to switch between normal ringtone and an ultrasonic ringtone (works far better than vibration during meeting); an application switcher called wktask to show all running applications on the taskbar so that I can switch from any application to any other with one touch; Tom Tom 6 and iGO my way as my navigation software, both of which works flawlessly; a weather software on the desktop; VOIP client so that I can call anywhere in the world untime for just 8 cents; a software to automatically capture name card details with the camera and to add a contact record without having to type in a letter; a GPS based golf software to give me distances while playing golf, organise golf tournament, and track our handicaps. I watch lots of youtube videos (either directly on mobile youtube or after downloading from the regular youtube). I have minutes by minutes update for all my stock portfolio and alerts when its price go up or down by certain set amount. I have my favorite webpages link to desktop icons so that clicking those icons gave me direct access to information such as the cheapest petrol station in my area, flight arrival time, flight departure time, TV guilds etc. I have push mail to all my five email accounts. I have the ability to send SMS either to a single individual or to group of recipients. I spend about 3 hours each day surfing the net using this wonderful device- in the toilet, while watching television, while taking trains and buses, while waiting for my golf tee-off time. Its really anytime anywhere experience. All my applications are in the harddisk, some in the device memory, and all my pictures and videos are in MiniSDHC cards. It means I can have UNLIMITED storage, merely by swaping in and out MiniSDHC cards. I can have all the videos and musics in the world if I want, as there is no storage limitation with this setup. I could use bluetooth headset but I have chosen to use it against my face. Not a problem whatsoever for me :-) This is not big. It's just that the rest are too small!! The screen size is fantastic. I have installed the REALVGA software that display at 128 and 96 dpi. Potentially this shows four times more information than the 320x240 PDA phones around. If you try to use REALVGA on the smaller devices, you will become blind very soon. Now you see why this size is an advantage, and not a disadvantage. I carry the phone with a self made belt pouch. With this, you won't feel the weight nor the size. I carry it without the keyboard. Software keyboard called Tengo is far faster and more accurate to use than even the keyboard in HTC SHIFT. Because I use my device almost non stop, I do carry a spare battery with me all the time. It's very thin and small, and I don't know it's in my pocket all the time. I take a lot of pictures with it. It's very very good under daylight but not so good at night, unless the lighting is very very good. I have dictionary, bibles, encyclopedia, wine guide, and many other knowledge ware installed. I have the best software calculators I know. I do all my internet banking, online payment with this device. Family budgets, expense tracking are all done here too. I also use MSN Messenger a lot, sometimes while doing my 'big business' in toilet. Now I'm completely dependent on this device. It reminds me when to do my gardening, when to pick up my kids, when to pay which bills, when to renew my car insurance, the list is endless. Is it perfect? No HTC can still improve. I want an FM and AM radio, a TV, and infra built in. I want it to shed half the weight and thickness. I want even the size to shink such that the 5 inch screen covers the entire device. I want solid state harddisk. I want a better camera that works at night. I want 802.11n. I want the volume of voice to become so low during phone conversation that my neighbour can't hear it. I don't want any hardware keyboard, thank you. I much prefer a tablet. Until that come along, there is really nothing on earth as good as this device now.

  • Please, tell me what is the video resolution (recording) ? How many fps?

  • But there are some serious sort commings with this phone!!!! And it is annoying since all of them avaidable: - 7501 has a newer op (MS WM6)has no conference cam - HTC took it off!!! WHY??????? - GPS is horrible! No SIRF III - it has only a 8GB hard drive: small and inefficient - keyboard has no backlit Otherwise it is okey, I think. a 5MP camera would be nice with a xeon flash, and by the time the new version comes out the thickness should be 14mm or less. (it is 16mm, or 20mm total now.)

  • My last PDA-type phone was XDA Exec. Far better than that the exec in terms of performance, tech spec. The X7500 is targeted to business PEOPLE not for "phone players" and fashionistas!! If you own one you generally DO NOT NEED TO CARYY OTHER STUFF e.g ipod mp3/4 player, phone, fax machine, kitchen sink etc. It would fulfil your business needs - multiple storage options, 8GB, mini-SD (I have 4GB) storage, . Mini MS office suite available, descent screen especially will browsing - no squinting of the eyes like most PDA-style-emulator phones! best with stereo bluetooth headsets - currently have chunky but exceptionally perfect sounding Motorola's HT820 headset - online music, live news and video(a little flaky) streaming makes me happy forever (55 tariff on T-Mobile gives you unrestricted internet use. It is is an insult to compare an BMW 7series M5 to a fiat Punto/ BMW 1 series / Merc A series... you get the picture? Seriously what other phone currently have all of these features with some compromising bit??? As regards the battery life, well high-powered cars are usually thirstier than Punto-type machines! But with USB connectivity, contiuously charging when at work and syncing and over 3 hours of intensive daily use. THIS IS A GREAT PHONE, DON'T BUY IF YOU CANNOT BE BOTHERED CARRYING SLIGHTLY HEAVIER MICROCOMPUTER - I LIKE IT VERY MUCH!!! Why do people buy something which is obviously bigger and then complain about the weight and size when it wasn't concealed at the time of purchase? zzzzzzZZZZZZZZZ....

  • it is fore buissines porposes and for internet i like it but the display is oufule 65k is ..... bad :P

  • nice pices

  • I have had my Advantage for a few months now and I love everything about it. the only weak spot I would say it has for me would be the 3.5 headset. I can't find them anywhere...If any of you guys know how I can get a good one let me know....

  • Oh! its huge!! Not for norml pepule

  • They should built a micronotebook with these dimensions, even small enough for the pocket, to protect the display when closed, perhaps with turnable display to use as tablet-pc, without hard disk (today no more necessary and saves battery), in any case WIN XP, enough slots for periphery, bluetooth, wlan and full usuable as telephone and fax at a reasonable price and I'll buy it all at once. I'm sure not only me. The entire world is waiting for it. Methods of construction like the advantage or Ameo aren't practicable, they are symply unreasonable.

  • question . is this phone a mac compatible?

  • how can u compare a Nokia 6300 S40 to something that runs on windows with 4 times the screen size and almost 4 times the weight?

  • please i want to know if possible ,when i turn on bluetooth headset i cannot send and receive nothing from another device or from another computer,i must turn off the bluetooth headset to begin receiving.is there any solution?thanks a lot.

  • When will the nordic users manual bee released?

  • this is a very heavey phone/notebook i ust brought mine 2weeks ago.. but this is very good i recomend you buy it but the nokia 6300 is way better and more effiecent due to the pirce

  • just take it. Not working with destinator 7. bad gps reciever. Not good sensitive. it is not a good pda.!!!!

  • This site has all the Info to get WM6 on this device.. also lots of other info for it.

  • I've just bought one 3 days ago. Its good, but very heavy. The version I have is the T-Mobile Ameo, which is the same HTC Advantage 7500. I've owne dthe T-Mobile MDA Vario (Qtek 9100) before and it does more than that did. So far no problems at all, and it is now partnering my always-by-my-side Blackberrt 8800. It is very expensive though, and the games I had on the MDA Vario don't play as well, as the scree on the Ameo (HTC Advantage) is squarer.

  • i live in europe so if i bought htc advantage x7501 (not x7500), would it work? (i wud probably need an elecrtrical adapter, but will it work?) Tnx

  • I think it's time to change my Qtek 9000. I don't mind about the dimentions and it has everything. Even a high price. More than 1.ooo,oo euros in Greece :-(

  • Well the device will resemble a loaf of bread when held to the ear! This will make the user resemble a cartoon character! So I guess one will be forced to use the handsfree, which will leave the hand free to eat the loaf. Next topic: can one touch type with this keyboard? Normally one would thumb type on a handheld device with a QWERTY keyboard and touch type with a normal sized desktop keyboard. This keyboard is between the two sizes. So, does one just point and stab with the index finger??

  • the best invention since sliced bread

  • Can i use the video conf. camera as a webcam?

  • I have one question for those who already own this pda-phone. Having in mind the difficult pocketability of such a big item, how dou you usually wear it? I a bag, in a big pocket, attached by any way to the belt? I'm interested in its possible use for professional use and would need to carry it all the time everywhere without bags.

  • Someone please let me know how i can flash WM6 on my X7500?

  • here in bulgaria-city varna price is 1300$.yesterday i tested at schop /my neighbour work here/-exelent pichture at day lite/630kb/,in low lite not so good, but normal, video is good, secondary camera for video call is perfekt, dispay is exelent.battery is powerful.i like direkt button on front panel for "opera"-extreme fast 620mhz cpu.we have some difficulties whit bluetooth-to connect whit my n73-show all folders and directory and must copy ,paste...not simple like in nokia.no fm radio, bad.when somebody call me i try to pull out from my pocket/yes i put it in my side pocket in my pants -monster,to balky/-believe me it takes to much time.no have vibration-bad.so thats is exelent gadget for internet and videocall, but for smartphone is too big.i forget to say that loudspeakers are good and display is exelent.

  • Hi Friends, I am using the Advantage, indeed a great product but has certain flaws. 1) No Keyboard light, in a dark room go to be careful while using the same. 2) The Screen top right hand side has started to loose colour, the reason being that the keyboard touching the phone due to which this has occured. Sorry for being bold in the next line, THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR A HANDSET PURCHASED FROM LONDON FROM A AUTHORISED DEALER IN INDIA. ALL IS CHARGEABLE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS WHEN I HAVE THE PURCHASE BILL AND DONT UNDERSTAND WHY AM I NOT GETTING SUPPORT IN INDIA. The Global competition has made all brands customer centric, but I guess HTC needs to be trained on the same. GSM ARENA, will request you to highlight the same to HTC. They need to change thier attitude and be customer focussed, irrespective on the customer being in any market. Warm Regards, Vishal Sharma.

  • Can anyone please tell me if there is rumours or not about an ORANGE SPV version of HTC ADVANTAGE X7500, like HTC Universal-SPV M5000, HTC TYTN - SPV M3100, etc. Thanks

  • I only seen this phone the first time today, it is a fantastic piece of technology, although being a student i guess replacing my laptop with this PDA would be very handy...I only saw it due to my teacher wanted us to see his new gadgets, i was amazed he brought a phone like this put to me...in my mind i thought "He must have stuck all the gadgets together to make one"

  • any other phones that have a better built-in gps navigation?

  • Hmmm...a little bulky but imagine watching video on the screen. Gosh, it would really make mobile TV popular if everyone have one of this. I wonder if it has the capabilities to actually replace a laptop? Anyone with it please let me know!

  • Can anyone please tell me if there is rumours or not about an Orange SPV version branded, like HTC Universal-SPV M5000, HTC TYTN - SPV M3100, etc. Thanks

  • i have this phone for a month now from tmobile uk and best pda phone ever. alot of memory and power. its a mini laptop a should say but full functioning phone. alot of people says its too big but i just depends how much power and use of technology you want to use. long battery, good gps ant., wifi awesome and the tmobile internt i could go anyhere in uk and use internet unlimited for 8 pounds. get one if you like this technolgy

  • excellant but i will buy alike pocketable device

  • people people ... dont wory their is an update for the device to win6 its official 2 see htc homepage in the coming weeks and you will find it .. they say from april to june

  • Vibration is not available in the phone because it might hurt the 8GB mirco drive... I am having this phone for last 2 weeks.....and Its fun...the best part is its screen....If you have money to throw then....purchase it....its all fun...

  • It does have vibration in your bt headset. This device is very capable although indeeed bulky but you cannot/should not bring this device to your ear when talking. Instead either put the device on your desk and talk over the speaker. Or use the bt headset.

  • No matter what you know and what you say about this bulked product, its ability and capacity is non-correspondent to its bulkiness. one simple problem you'll encounter with this device is the ability to have full access to the Internet. its pitiful IE mobile edition limits your browsing needs. Windows Mobile 5.0 is a Windows Mobile 5.0 whether is on HTC Advantage or on Desktop PC. it has its limited mobile web browsing features. like having a KING KONG size toy. again its limits ends in its Operating System. my point of view is based on my personal experience with Pocket PCs. just name one that i did not own and ended up selling it for half of is original price i paid. in fact the last Pocket PC i had was i-Mate JasJar. it cost my $1200 and as worthless it was as i got rid of it. now the rising question is about to rest on the Windows Mobile 6 Pro edition, that gives me the false impression that it will have improved and upgraded features of Mobile 5.0. false impression is the Professional part of the windows mobile 6 Professional. seemingly would render almost all the features of windows XP. surely not. just joking. i just don't want to spend another $1200 and find myself deeply regretful. i jsut don't trust windows mobile OSs. that's because mobile OS does not support SSL.(secure socket layer). but Nokia's E90, N95 and even E62,61i and N91 that i have it supports SSL and goves me full desktop Internet access. any web page. my suggestion is, if you really want a fully featured device, then buy Nokia's product with Symbian OS 9.2, 3rd edition or higher. thanks for advise! you're welcome below is the principal function and important role of SSL which soon or later you'll find, that is very important to have a device which will support SSL. ----------------------------------------- Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): How It Works Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology protects your Web site and makes it easy for customers to trust you. An SSL Certificate enables encryption of sensitive information during online transactions. Each SSL Certificate contains unique, authenticated information about the certificate owner. Every SSL Certificate is issued by a Certificate Authority that verifies the identity of the certificate owner.

  • even the instructions manual tells about vibration and it's totally missing

  • nice device. though I am still wondering does it have vibration mode or not? as I was unable to find such an option after I searched all phone. And I also don't know about the display... 65k colors or 256k??? Phone tells me 65 and most reviews 256? Does it have to do something with the software? Does anybody know the answer to that...

  • tmobile uk has the device as free on 75 a month 18mnths on there web site but i think tmobile will have put there own web and walk brand on it which blows

  • I don't think any network will has this device free with contract. You have to pay! Also, you can't watch youtube videos on it. Sorry to say. the only way is if you download it and convert then you can. -Hiren

  • stoppppp!!! hey if you guys live in usa do not buy this htc x7500 because it is not us version. and its is windows mobile 5. and in 4 mounth htc will bring out same design pda at htc x7501 same color and tecnology and it will come with windows mobile 6 standard edition you can guys check at this link.

  • I have had this phone for about 2 weeks now. The only thing i wish it had was a speaker that you can hold your ear next to, cuz u cant talk on the speaker phone all the time! Tom Tom works grate! It it pretty fast when navigating though the device. It has no vibration! and GSMArena has it! IT does NOT! IF you want to know more about it.. E-Mail me [email protected] -Hiren

  • Thanks Bob for the review :P

  • Thanks Bob for such a nice review.

  • I've been using mobile office devices like this, for around 20 years (early pda's such as the Psion 3 series, for example). I find them indispensible, and have never had them stolen while working abroad, unlike friends with their vanishing laptops that seem to disappear for a pastime. Not losing my work is rather important, being able to deliver that work easily, or forward work in progress to safe storage such as an e-mail inbox, is also important. As an aside, I can't wait to get my hands on one of the new pendant bluetooth hard drives Seagate are bringing out (up to 60gb storage apparently), which I can hang round my neck, for easy backups. It will be an ideal partner to devices like this. This X7500 is about as small as is practical for a Bluetooth/WiFi 640 x 480 resolution touchscreen Pocket PC comms device. Website designers are starting to get 'up to speed' with the requirements of mobile pocket device displays (Microsoft have issued guidance for their support, to enable easy updating of sites for resolving these issues, so sites can display correctly in these lower resolutions), and which are quite different to 'legacy' websites. With that in mind, the 640 x 480 resolution is optimum (properly implemented sites even look good and work well with 320 x 240). 800 x 600 would be very counterproductive in this regard, and detract from touchscreen usability, plus sites would take a lot longer to load, which will contribute to hammering your battery, as well as your connection costs with some service providers outside of WiFi connections. This device has a place, and a substantial market which has been waiting for what this product offers, to arrive. That market is not a laptop market, it is a Pocket PC market with phone and other communication facilities built in, as well as maybe satnav, which revolve around Bluetooth and especially WiFi capability. Anyone that wants to use this device next to their ear, doesn't know what it is about, or, just wants to show off. Bluetooth it, or speakerphone it. It's an overlap market with the one for devices like the 320 x 240 resolution HTC Hermes/TyTN/Vario II/M3100/etc (I have the M3100 running one of the 'pre-release' cooked Windows Mobile 6 roms). Pocket PC devices are able to run Pocket PC applications (MSN Live Messenger for Pocket PC, Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, Pocket Outlook, for example) very well, without power hungry processors. The battery in this X7500 should give perfectly adequate usage (2200ma is a pretty good capacity for a powerful device like this), given it will either a) be hooked up to a PC via USB for convenience and usability whilst also having the battery topped off; or b) be used whilst plugged into a car charger, for most of the time it is switched on. With a device like this, if I don't have it plugged into a powersource, and am not at a place I will be using it at, or not using the GPS (backpacking, or whatever), then I simply SIM swap into a spare GSM handset to save capacity. We all have at least one of those, right? Do NOT make the mistake of comparing devices such as this, to Symbian OS devices such as Nokia, Sony Ericsson, etc. They are chalk and cheese, and don't offer anything remotely like the sheer functionality and lack of grief of a Windows Mobile device (for example think on the SE 990 saga, a 'flagship' Symbian device very very late to market, and STILL looking for a firmware solution to its problems, how many months later?). If you need the features that X7500 offers, then personally I'd get it flashed to Windows Mobile 6 ASAP, or better, insist that the supplier supplies it running Windows Mobile 6 - yes it is worth it. Windows Mobile 5 certainly works, and might well offer all you need, but there are significant advances in version 6 that devices like this can take advantage of. Useful Windows Mobile 6 upgrade info, here: If you need most of the features and usability offered by the X7500, plus infra red, in a much smaller package, then get the Hermes/TyTN/Vario II/M3100 - which is a truly outstanding device in its own right, and one which provides everything I could possibly need from a mobile device. Which is why I won't be buying an X7500. Full marks to HTC for producing it though.

  • Its cute and the best part is, it fits my hand, it has all most all features which one wants to buy and can utlize at this point in time, Excellent i wish we can update the Windows 5 to 6 or else it would get stuck with the final consumers. Way to go i am planning to buy one but just waiitng for the price to come down a little bit... HTC with its innovative products will sonn become a mkt leader...

  • man its out got mine today from loving it

  • "up to 5 hours of talk time" = 4 hours talk = 2 hours talk + 1.5/1 hour screen usage = 1 hour talk + 1 hour screen usage + 0.5 hour GPS IT THAT ENOUGH FOR YOU? USB 1.1 WM5 - great job HTC ! push obsolete technology for merely $1500!

  • yes please, it needs wm6, its too powerfull for wm5

  • May be a new ROM will update it with WM6. HTC version is not out yet....once people will start playing with it, I am sure they will find a way to update it with WM6

  • x7501 is for US market and I am sure there would be a way to put on x7500 WM6

  • I don't think the x7500 can be upgrade. HTC is releasing x7501 with WM6.

  • Hi guys, can any body can tell me, can I upgrade WM from 5 to 6? what about the quilty of the sound??

  • I had Nokia phone for few days, I got so frustrated N73 is so slowwwww, I never saw such slow system and what I heard from people everything on Advantage is faste, almost flying

  • Do you need better CPU to run Vista? It's like running 10mhz on Pocket PC. Ouch, it's gonna slow as hell.

  • Sorry HTC, but the size alone make this PPC not a phone/computer, but a tablet too big for cellphone and too underpowered to be consider a computer. Why don't you pick up some pointers from Nokia and their E Series. The best thing to a hybrid Phone/PC is going to be the Nokia E90 Communicator.

  • better phone is coming out with windows vista:

  • should see this picture the based design concept of the advantage=D

  • i used this pc phone in a t-mobile shop in london yesterday,it looks and feels luxurious,it is attached to the keyboard by two small in built magnets, so the keyboard is easily detached, connection to the internet and web browsing was a joy,i and super fast via 3g hspda, and the built in stereo radio was a blast.i've ordered one so i can play poker on the train to work. oh/ yes and it even comes with a wrap around soft leather case. regards john

  • this is the best choice next to the HTC 4550

  • The status of X7500 on this site says that this phone is available... Is it really available in the market....I mean the HTC black version.... I don't think so.

  • Just add a thaousand more for UMPC....

  • The HTC is about the same size as a standalone GPS but it adds the ability to phone, contacts, calendar, surf web and run PPC software. If you do a lot of long flight and on the road, I think this would be a great thing to have.

  • Anyone here own a 17 or bigger wide screen laptop? In my Imho, I think their target audience here is for users who prefer to have some mobility but station most of the time. What you grain from a big laptop compare to an UMPC is the bigger screen. The weight will kill your back but if you dont travel a lot, what do you care?

  • To anyone who complain about lack of head speaker should get a brick, press it against their ear, and look in the mirror. You want to hold a brick to your ear while having a conversation? This thing is huge dude. Get a bluetooth head set, keep the phone in your belt pouch, and you'll look much cooler. Too bad it doesn't come with Window Mobile 6. Otherwise, it'll be my next phone.

  • This huge thing can not be called a phone what so ever, it 's not even going to fit in any of your pockets regardless of it's other features it is something in between PDA and Laptop PC, I wouldn't buy it.

  • If thats the case, you can of course maintain the loud speakers volume down and use the Advantge as a phone close to your ear. In any case, it isnt confortable to use it that way because of its weight and size. The rigth way to use would be with a bluetooth headset with caller ID.

  • How could HTC leave off a head speaker and call it a cell phone? So, are you saying that the only way you can use this cell phone is with a headphone or via speakerphone? (Of course, if you use it as a speakerphone, everyone around you will be able to hear.)

  • The guy below is correct. 1.1 is the host. 2.0 is the client. It indeed has with 2 speakers. Its call stereo. Other than this, you cant hold this phone to your ear and have a phone conversation due to the lack of head speaker piece.

  • It has two ports: One HTC ExtUSB (11-pin mini-USB 2.0 and audio jack in one). And one HTC proprietary 16-pin combined port (USB 1.1 host/VGA)

  • Looks like a killer product. Now the only question is the price...Still HTC is the king!

  • This phone does indeed have built-in speakers. Two, in fact. Regarding the USB: Go over to HTC's site and read for yourself that the phone has USB 1.1 and not 2.0. That means the data transfer rate between the phone and a computer will be the slower USB 1.1 speed. Again, that guy below is wring. This phone does not have USB 2.0...period!

  • For the guy comment below. It would be an overkill for any PPC to have a 2Ghz processor. As far as I know, no PPC software require or can take advandge of an uber processor. The only common ground between laptop and PPC are both running Microsoft OS. The market for PPC and MS laptop is completely different.

  • BTW, it doesn't come with a speaker where you can listen on the unit. You'll need a BT headset or thru the build-in loud speaker for phone conversation.

  • Correction. The USB client IS 2.0 but the USB host is 1.1 What the host allows you to do is for hooking up to external USB mouse and keyboard.

  • Also, this phone is a whopping 4 inches wide. Before you order this phone, I urge you take an index card and cut it down to 4 inches. Then hold it in your hand. You will see that this stretches your hand very wide and it is not very comfortable. The dimensions of this phone in inches is 5.23 x 4 x .80 (the depth of .80 is with the keyboard covering the screen). Also, this phone weighs 13 ounces. This phone will not be comfortable at all if one talks on the phone for a long time. Plus, for the huge amount of money one will spend, nearly US$1300, why would HTC leave out USB 2.0? There is USB 2.0 on cheap, tiny USB Flash Drives. HTC put in only USB 1.1. How could they be so dumb?

  • Warning! This device only has USB 1.1 and not USB 2.0. What a dumb blunder by HTC. This device has a built-in 8 GB hard drive. Copying over 8 GB's via USB 1.1 will be painfully slow. What was HTC thinking only putting in USB 1.1.

  • brilliant,iwan't it.

  • Too bad the screen is not 800x600 but 640x480. It is just not good for internet.

  • hey everybody !i got something to show u all!go this website to view this is HTC or dopod ? i dont which copy which one ! too similar rite?!!!!!!!!!!whose out first?

  • You should then hire a security team to move around with you! + i guess its like having a laptop with heaphones for voice

  • I can't call this "miniPC" a phone. Maybe a mobile PC with pohne capabilities. Maybe instead of 5", a 3" would have been better to reduce the dimensions and weight.

  • A great tool ! Only regrets - lack of infra red port, and if the length was 120 mm, width 80 mm and a 4" display, would have fitted snugly, in the shirt pocket.

  • Dudes, keep your other pocket with .5kg stone to balance you :D

  • this is like a mini laptop.. cool~

  • It looks like a nice phone but i am concerned about its price.

  • I just want it. pls dont test my patience.

  • This is good, but already obsolete! This is bigger and better then the Universal (O2 Exec) but same resolution. The only one that is even a contender for me it's the Toshiba G900 the first mobile with a resolution that you can actually browse the net, 800x480. HTC should get a clue. Great screen, (big) but bad resolution.

  • bless the handsfree.:D

  • very bad design in keyboard and screen

  • guys who are not HTC fans. never choose this one over a UltraPortablelaptop computer or UMPC, the statemnt that it has a better battery life is true but look at it's processor... 600+ mhz? HTC is kidding. most of the laptops as of now is powered by core duo and turion X2 processors running at 2ghz+. so it's obvious that laptops will eat more battery than this, but at the cost of reliability, speed and better everything. never mind the features this HTC one offers. if you have laptop/UMPC you can attach everything like AF webcams, GPS etc. HTC on the wrong move=(

  • Pls baby come baby come to me, U really looks beautiful, u are so inteligent.

  • This is Real Revolution Oncoming Ingenous Useful Ultimate Technology! Yes, You have Right it's... Incredible!

  • rediculous holding it to your ear? dont think so noone will see it cause yuou need both hands with 360grams...

  • Considering his size its a very hany phone, Will imate or Qtek sell it too with their own software?

  • This tempting lap-phone needs a very good hands free set and outstanding bluetooth perfomance. You will need it, you cannot hold this beast to your ear and not look ridiculous.

  • i think it should have infrared

  • Can i upgrade the os 2 wimdows mobile 6?

  • Looks really good but too big 4 a phone. The XDA exec is as big as I go.

  • i want one... i'll just have to buy a bluetooth headgear

  • i think u need a secretary with this phone and a tech guy and ofcourse a transportation to move it from one place to the other if u really want u should at least hire 5 employers to run it

  • the weight and the size is the most important i once owned an i-mate jasjar it's have half the size of this htc and caused me a lot of troubles of carrying it where to put u need a sack to fit this device, when u answer a call it's very uncomfortable very heavy and ofcourse u will look funny with 300gms on your ear imagine this x7500 what will do to you the specs r great but it will be slightly noticed althuogh i've liked the 8 gigs thanx out

  • This is really a mini-computer... Check the size, weight and display.

  • I think i can use this to train my arm muscle for army.... anyway, imagine u were typing with keyboard attached. Suddenly a call came in.... U will have to unattach the bloody keyboard....

  • Come on Mike!I don't believe in reducing the beauty.Either carry all or none at all.

  • Fred, what a statement!I would not use it even if given for free! It is awfully big!

  • To, Fred Phelps actually, the HTC Advantage X7500's keybord can be unattached from the headset, therefore it can be used as any other pda on the market.

  • Great features but imagine how dumb ur going to look talking with a laptop to ur ear, anyone who buys this device needs a bluetooth headset.

  • No sooner did i saw this set i decided to replace it with my i-pod.

  • nice looking laptop

  • about $1200 us dollars in hongkong.

  • It may be big, but there is no other device out there that has specs that even come close!!!

  • nice gadget..just install the XCPuscalar to overclock the processor speed up to 714mhz..then it would be nice..no more lagging with this phone..

  • Excelent picture quality and performance!!Buttttt, Too big and heavy to use as a cell phone, too small to use as a computer. The keypad looks like not comfortable.

  • It's a small laptop that can make phone calls and send SMS. Cool. Price? Not cool.

  • It's specs look really good, however, the manufacturer stated 8 hours battery duration, and we're not talking about talk time... if that's true it's a good time when compared to a laptop, but very bad compared to cellphones... Still, this will be great when it comes out!

  • Ya the size is going to be this phones problem

  • sorry i'm wrong about the autofocus opinion, it should be on the other HTC phone. peace!

  • wrong move on the OS, it should run windows xp so people wont call it a phone but a umpc.i think next time HTC must embeed autofocus on their cameras because fixed focus cameras suck, E90 has AF and it will just simply attract every possible costumers from business, camera enthusiast, music lovers and more. even N93 and N95 has it.

  • I dig it! Cool and an absolute killer on performance.

  • The specs are out of the world! Probably the most powerful beast in the pda world but it sure kind of crossover to the Notebook world. Looks very good though it is slightly chunky. I would say the T-Mobile Ameo (the rebranded HTC Advantage for T-mobile) looks real pretty in pink.

  • big? it's humongous!

  • this is the real monster..

  • A thing this size dont fit any pocket! I would need a purse to carry it!

  • How on earth you are going to talk on this device? It's like holding a dictionary against your ear, so uncomfortable. Anyway it has great specs, only big minus is that it wont keep balance when you are using touch-screen in "Desktop-form". At least not without some kind of bracket.

  • Extreme specs but this phone is way to expensive. Its listed on e-bay at $1.800 USD as Dopod u1000 (is the same phone but from a another "brand", like the T-mobile Ameo)

  • i like notephone... hey! > "Lapcell" .. or just good ole' Brick. WTF??

  • This machine is amaizing..and specifications are awesome....congratulations HTC for making such a nice machine.... But...if you campare it with NOKIA E90, it will not be that succesful...ONLY because of its size... HTC X7500 features are awesome and it is well equipped but its size will make it number 2 and nokia E90 will be no. 1 .... But still I will buy this machine because I am loving the specs...

  • is called a notephone

  • Give me one

  • If u want all in one, this is what u'v been waiting for. this is it athena. A bit heavy heavy though,

  • Not sure on their reliabilty but it has some solid features :)

  • Look more like a laptop to me :), anyway I think this is a nice "lapphone"/"phonetop"

  • WTF?? 359g...

  • Kind Big, But Pack with speed,

  • what a monster phone. i mean it could have windows 6 and a 16 mill screen but everything else is really powerfull the proccessor is outrageous

  • is this the smallest laptop or the biggest phone? :D

  • OMFG.best smartphone eva!!! a bit big but cool nd... wat about its price $1500??

  • I want this phone! Look at the hi-res screen! Niice
