  • I don't recall ever having a drivers'cd. i believe the phone should be recognised after automatical installation of drivers. that's what happened with w7. i just plugged the phone in and it ende up being recognised Have you tried different usb ports? Have you tried to (re)install or connect via "Windows Mobile Device Center"? It's on windows support website. Can you try any other computer to check if it does recognise your phone? If everything else fails, i'd suggest contacting htc and presenting the problem. maybe they'll have a solution.

  • Try to connect other to usb doors. I do not have any drivers' cd and my tytn gets "recognised"by w7. You might even try to connect to contact htc and see if they can help out.

  • i have deleted the USB driver. How do i re-install or get it back?

  • Download Esmertec jbed.CAB ... run operamini java

  • What a brilliant phone this is! Way ahead of its time: the keyboard lights up when in dark environments; it has got flash/light both for videos and photos. The TYTN even has video calling and mine is currently running WM 6.5 (stock Rom) without lagging. Very pleased, as I have a perfectly operational phone and I'm not missing anything essential.

  • Whenever you press call (the green phone symbol) you get "video" option. If you press it, you'll be automatically placing a video call and the front camera will turn on. I don't use it any other way, but it is really useful to make video calls and it works just fine.

  • i am happy about my htc tytn but i need help about my front camera pls help me thank you

  • The TYTN is a beautiful classic. Video calls, touch screen, physical keyboard, GPS via bluetooth, Infra-Red connection, flash camera and videos recording, hot swappable memory cards, dedicated camera button.. These are only some of the features let down by current phones. The list is endless for how far ahead and how complete this phone was in its time and how it remains a solid, fully functional piece of equipment... ... not so long ago.

  • This phone is great except the QWERTY keyboard...

  • This has to be the most complete phone on the market. wifi, 3G, Qwerty...the best

  • A timeless classic. A vintage phone that still works perfectly!

  • Here's my "right arm" phone. Every time you need a true reliable phone, anytime you need to take your phone on your bike, if it is rainy, dusty, wet or hazardous, then the TYTN steps in. It has stood almost everything and it still performs flawlessly. Both cameras, the macro mode, the lighted keyboard, the BT connection (hence, GPS). Reallycan't complain. Everything works with this phone. That is why I still get amazed at this phone's reliability and functionalities. Great phone, indeed!

  • same her. best phone i've ever had. fine built quality and still pertforming perfectly. i've also bought a gps antenna so i'm not missing anything: phone, photos, videos, video calling, gps, games, full lighted keyboard, this phone has got it all.

  • this phone is the best one i have used ever and still working on os 6.5 perfectly

  • Not to worry. Make sure you turn Bluetooth ON and keep your TYTN and the antenna close together. Standard values I use: COM PORT: 9 Baud Rate: 38400 Anyway, if you've got a programme such as "GPS Viewer" try other connections' definitions to find out which suit you better. On your first fix (also called a "cold fix") be aware you'll have to wait... sometimes for as much as 10 minutes. Your antenna needs to receive signal from different satellites (the more, the better and more accurate will be your positioning). Try to stand beneath clear blue skies. Avoid tall buildings, physical obstacles, and don't even try doing it inside a building! In fact, the first time it will take A LOT of time, but - from then on - fixes will be much quicker and won't take more than a minute, except if you reconnect far from the place you've disconnected and the antenna needs to fix satellites from completely different coordinates. External antennas tend to work better than internal (inside the phone). I've experienced it in bad weather and especially when travelling through tunnels. Phone GPS lose signal and my (external)antenna doesn't! The TYTN is capable of functioning perfectly as a GPS receiver. I wish the screen was a bit better, but then again, I still hav everything modern phones have AND 3G video calls which is something Android is trying to kill. A word of advice: Be patient... it will work just fine! =)

  • I agree! This phone is a true timeless masterpiece! =)

  • I agree! This phone is amazing and seems to be built to last... forever! =)

  • Not to worry: > Establish a Bluetooth connection with the antenna via: Com Port: 9 Baud Rate: 38400 That's standard procedure. If you've got "GPS Viewer", or any similar programme installed you ma try different settings and choose the one you feel works better/more reliably. Don't forget, first time fix or "cold fix" as it is sometimes referred to, is always veeeeery slow. Please, be patient. Keep both the antenna and the phone close together. Try to connect the TYTN and the antenna under a clear, blue sky. Avoid tall buildings or physical obstacles. The following satellite fixes will be much faster, as the antenna willl have coordinates stored. Anyway, every time you try to fix your position far away from the place you've last disconnected, it will be a slower process, as the antenna needs to fix the position from different satellites. At the end of the day, you'll be able to fix and mantan position better than with internal antennas, namely when travelling through tunnels. An external antenna is not as inconvenient as it may seem at the beginning. You'l see. I wish you patience and... Good Luck! =)

  • I bought this fone in 2006 and still have it smart,,,wayyy ahead of its time....cant feel like changing it....Everything works soooooo perfect ....even battery time after sooo many years is 2 days :)

  • Not a problem: Connect to your GPS Antenna via - COM PORT: 9 - Baud Rate: 38400 That is the way my TYTN works with my G-sat GPS Receiver (no ad intended!) BTW, do not forget to let your antenna stand still, close to your phone, preferably beneath a blue sky (avoid tall buildings and other physical obstacles) and be prepared for the process to take some time in your first time. I believe it's called a "cold fix" the first time you use your gps receiver and having to wait a few minutes for the first fix OR whenever you try a new fix in a place that is distant from your previous disconnection(more than 5 minutes is very usual in any phone/receiver). After that first fix, you'll be able to carry the receiver in your pocket on open air, beneath any window of your car and it will work flawlessly. External receivers tend to have larger antennas and work noticeable better than gps antennas inside the phone, namely, when going through tunnels. Anyway, if you've got installed any programme such as "GPS Viewer" you may try other combinations "Com Port - Baudrate", because I really believe other combinations are possible. Just be... patient and Good Luck! =)

  • somebody help me, i don´t know how connect to my htc tytn a external gps what is the por? some body can say me how i do?

  • htc tytn, simply the BEST!!! sturdy, reliable, functional!even after a few accidental drops to the floor,it still works perfectly!!!this phone should really be one of those on the top!!!

  • It's unfair that this phone is kept out of the top chart. This way the chart will only accept new models, making it not a real tbut a form of disguised advertising, always bringing out new models. A Top chart must reflect what phones have stood the test of time, which phones are selling like hot cakes, which phones the public appreciates the best, whatever the reason. Censorship, whatever the reason or "explanation" is always non-democratic and oppressive. Censorship always reveals the fear of the truth.

  • Hey, the top phone has a 3 x 8.3 score and this phone has got a 8.4 - 8.5 - 8.4 score and it's out of the top??? What is wrong with this? Are only current phones allowed in the top? And, if so, why can they be voted for if it isn't worth anything? Many old, old phones are in the top and that is only fair. They're true classics. Is there anything against HTC and the TYTN? I, for one, do not want to believe in such a thing! Let's be fair to all brands and to voters' opinions.

  • real old skool phone this one. definitely my fave mobile. still going strong - everyday usage - no probs.

  • my fave phone. still going strong. love its details such as the automatic lit keyboard under dark environments. +1 voting for it! :)

  • Agreed! :)

  • agreed! :)

  • the tytn of all modern mobile phones. the shape, the spects, even the name has been copied. a landmark for the handy industry.

  • yes, this phone is legend... wait for it... LEGENDARY =)

  • yes, this phone is legend... wait for it... LEGENDARY =)

  • this phone is legend... wait for it... LEGENDARY =)

  • Right you are. Why is this phone out of the top? Let's put it back where it belongs. In GSM ARENA's many other phones' pages people openly ask users to vote for that phone. That is NOT my intention. This is a classic phone, but as it happens with cars, watches and many other consumer goods, it has stood the test of time and still is a great, fully functional phone that allows you to do basically everything contemporary phones do.

  • In the "Specifications" page it can be read: "Memory Card slot microSD, up to 2GB" This is NOT TRUE. My TYTN has got an 8GB card and it works just fine. I've bought it, placed it on the phone and it has been working perfectly ever since. It does recognise 8GB and it is fast and reliable. This phone performs really well and it endures... everything! Too bad about the lack of GPS, but an external antenna (cheap, small & light) does the trick. ;o) Very good phone!

  • Still great specs and very reliable. You see plenty of these phones still in use. This is a brilliant piece of technology, even by today's standards. A TYTN of a phone! =)

  • yes. many phones from '09 strangely appearing on the top as "still available"... this phone deserves to be on the top chart: it's multifunctional, complete, fun and reliable. great all rounder phone.

  • Yeah. Lots of discontinued phones on the top which is only natural, I guess. Many old phones have gained cult status and this is one of those. C'mon guys, get it on the top where it deserves to be. Old phones can be great phones!!!

  • I see many users and lots of fans here. =) + 1! How come with this score (8.4-8.4-8.4) this phone isn't on the Top Chart???

  • Stylish, strong and weather-proof. A Timeless Classic!

  • The "Slide and tilt construction" of its keyboard makes it flimsy and fragile. I much prefer the original: no GPS, but NO LAG and very solid construction. The TYTN is REALLY a phone built to last!

  • In my opinion, it is pretty much the same. The TYTN 2 is newer and it allows you to tilkt your screen more comfortably, placiing your screen and its keyboard as if you were typing in a tiny laptop. I have used a TYTN2 for a VERY short period of time and I haven't noticed any significant differences... Personally, I am used to my TYTN and I still recommend it as a GREAT phone! I would almost go as far as saying that, compared to today's phones, tge TYTN is is virtually... Indestructible!

  • how is this fon compared to tytn ii

  • Great phone. Still performing withut faults. I only wish it had a GPS antenna... This way, I've had to get me a BT one...

  • How come this phone gets this score and isn't on the Top Chart? Many other discontinued phones are there. Why isn't the TYTN where it its rightful place?

  • The TYTN may be getting old, but it still works... full steam ahead. WM 6.5 fully operational. Advisable to get an extra battery, though. Its battery seems to be this phone's weakest link, but there are still plenty of batteries available and they're not all that expensive. I also recommend this phone!

  • The true TYT(A)N of ALL phones. They don't build them like this anymore and that's a shame!!! Strong, resistant, with all the gadgets you may wish for. Get it a BlueTooth antenna and you've even got a GPS device at your service. Hot-Swappable memory card; iluminated keyboard (with sensor); camera with flash; full keyboard AND touchscreen... this phone was built ahead of its time and it still works just fine. Highly Recommended!

  • How are votes counted? The Xperia Play and the HTC TYTN (both 3X8.4) are behind this phone (8.4 - 8.4 - 8.3). Actually, with the same score the HTC Diamond2 isn't even on this chart. And with a higher score the TYTN does not seem to even exist! Why? Even older models keep appearing here which is great to realise how valuable and relevant they still are. A Top List of mobile phones shouldn't be the result of all users' opinions and not being limited to release dates, as to present only the latest models on the market. Anyway,if that is the case - which would be seriously WRONG and unethical - we should be informed and voting on "out of contest" phones should not be allowed as it currently is. Everyone can vote on the phone they own, like it or hate it. That's democracy, that's the beauty of this chart; We can all have a saying without censorship! Is that about to end? Is this chart only important to showcase new models and earn advertising money to the site? If it's so, at least be honest with it and speak openly, as we are the one who've created your fame and reputation worldwide.

  • It's got to be... PERFECT!

  • Those were the days... when phones were built to last! Fab phone!

  • We've got a true 'Jack-of-all-trades' here!!! Glad to see mine is not the only HTC TYTN still in use. =) Great, sturdy phone. You can really go places with it, as it will never let you down as most modern fragile phones will.

  • I wonder how many TYTNs keep on working. Mine is still my only phone. I had to replace the battery but other than that, it keeps on working flawlessly. Not interested in updating to current models which seem to flooding the market on a daily basis just be outdated right after their launch. Really happy with my phone, so far... and using my hard earned money for more useful things! =)

  • Built to last. The last of the solid-built quality phones. At the time,it really had all you could ask for. Today, you'll need a separate BT GPS antenna, that's all. Take it anywhere, use it anyway. It will work for you under the worst conditions.

  • My best phone ever. Really complete. Too bad manufacturers keep dropping quality standards.

  • A timeless classic. I only wish most phones still had all the features of a TYTN, taking adavantage of today's technology. Phones would be much better and user-friendly if they followed the TYTN's example!

  • You mean sturdy, right? Yes, the good'ol TYTN still delivers. An example followed by many and a phone that will stand at historical phone's hall of fame.

  • Greta 'big' phone. Heavy, but stursy, resistant and full of great potential. I also own one and keep using it: it has everything you need and you save up your dollars for more precious goods!!!

  • I have one of these, very nice device. I got WM 6.5 on it and works with no lag at all. Wi-Fi is quite fast, and yutube loads eally well. The speaker is loud and clear, and the camera preformance is one of the best comparing to other 2MP cameras. Batery life is realy nice for a device this big, last 3days no problem. Qwerty is comfortable and have a nice "pop up" feel to them.

  • This phone is like a Rolls-Royce: you may not want one, you may nor even like it, but it is a symbol of how things should be done. The TYTN has got everything, it was a phone ahead of its time. That is why so many of us still use theirs and fully enjoy this superb machine. The TYTN deserves the praise: It has stood the test of time and came out as a clear Winner!

  • Glad to see this phone still rocking! =) Actually, in a time when new phones keep coming out almost on a daily basis, it's good to remember great phones, like great gadgets, are timeless. The TYTN is still a landmark as far as modern smart phones are concerned: It did have it all: two cameras with video calling, photos and videos with flash, hot swapping memory card, full lighted keyboard, WiFi, Bluetooth and Infra-Red connection... you name it! This is the phone that started a new way of understanding (& using) our phones! I still use mine as a secondary phone and it keeps on working beautifully. that is why, I, for one, still vote for it!

  • dear sir i heave htc-herm-200 this is very nice but i don,t heave cd of system.

  • the first phone/windows phone i have owned, stay with me about 4 years , i tasted in everythinge beginig from wifi and video calling , ending by all windows mobile i tasted on it , even the lastes windows 6.5 i try it in the TYTN, and it still going fast and easy ............ but it is so bad that i sel it yesterday, and i am getting now the samsung Galaxy Ace ............ "TyTn , i will never forgot you , ever ...... you was my cellmate in the prison of mobiles "

  • Probably, my best phone so far! Full physical keyboard, IR & Bluetooth, Hot swappable memory card, video calls... It has it all!

  • I don't have any CD either. I just coinnect it to my PC via "WM Device Center" and I can actually see and do anything and everything to my phone. The TYTN still resists and keeps on working perfectly, even after its manual and CD are long gone! ;) That really shows how great a phone the TYTN is!!!

  • Check HTC's Help Center: I manage to syncronise mine using "Windows Mobbile Device Center" included in recent Windows versions. I've never used other software: That's how I regularly connect my TYTN to different PCs. If that doesn't work, as it is an older model, try to send them a email explaining your problem: (on the above page, click "Contact Us") Good Luck!

  • i could not download the pc suite after losing my cd

  • In a sentence: Most reliable phone I have ever had!

  • First touch screen ever owned. Reliable, tough and full of potential. Already had video call. A real landmark. It still works flawlessly!

  • Full-Proof.Shock-Resistant. Fully Functional: This phone endures ALL! The TYTN is solid as a rock and it keeps workimg flawlessly after all these years. I wish all phones were built this way! =) The best, most reliable phone I've ever had!

  • A Great Classic. It was this phone that started it al! =)

  • A master of all trades. This phone really handles everything: games, programmes, videos and photos. After years of hard work, the TYTN still performs beautifully. Highly recommended. It does stand the test of time. Very pleased with mine! =)

  • Old faithfull...cable flex gave in a few months ago bt still going strong even without being able to use the qwerty keyboard. Stylus FTW!

  • A Hard Reset will delete ALL your personal data from your phone. You'll lose, programmes, pictures and videos, games and addresses, software updates... you name it. After a successful hard reset, your phone will be exactly as it was the day you bought it! You'll find instructions on how to do it on your phone's manual, but I'd advise you to try another battery, make sure your phone is completeley dry, I don't know... I just think a hard reset IS a drastic last option. Have you verified all possible causes for the problem? A Hard Reset is not a miracle cure, i.e., if there is a processor or memory fault/problem a HR will NOT solve your problem. Try to have it checked by a trusted technician. Good Luck with it!

  • Today I had a problem in my TyTN where it hanged up. Normally I make a soft reset using the stylus. But in this time the phone did not start at all, it just displays some information in the beginning and stops with HTC logo on the screen. I have tried to reset again and removed the battery many times, but with no progress. One of my friends told me that i need to do a hard reset but I do not know how. Can anyone of you guide me to solve this issue? Thanks

  • hello girl ask the guy that is gonna fix it to put new software for you the software thats on now of and re install it for you

  • Hi, I am unable to surf the internet using my phone. I tried all my skills in an effort to gain access but no success. what could have been responsible for the failure? Help me out. Thanks

  • download cab files and save.

  • I'd advise you to contact the seller as your phone is faulty. My phone has used a 4GB card and now it has an 8GB card inside and it has "recognised" them immediately. I've taken photos and made videos, I've installed and removed GPS Programmes, Games, Movies and Applications and I eventually realised I needed a larger capacity card. I've never had any problem with either of these two cards. I'm not sure about its maximum capacity, but I may assure you an "operational" HTC TYTN accepts up to 8GB cards: Just insert it and start using it. You'd better get that phone checked as that is a definite sign there's something wrong with the phone (or with the memory cards, of course). To a phone such as the TYTN 256MB is NOT enough to enjoy the phone's full potential! Good Luck with that!

  • eish i bought an htc tytn...it doesnt read any memory cards except the Sandisk brand(256mb)..that i have all other brands like kingston, verbatim even 1 gig memory cards...its failing to read...is it faulty or its just a crapy frustating fone wc cant operate even a 500mb card..??

  • That depends on your operator's settings. You'll really have to contact them. Each operator has its specific settings which sometimes may even be sent by them "automatically" via sms. (You'll just have to install them) Some Official site (vodafone, Orange, etc.) have even their definitions which you may install set yourself. Good Luck with your phone.

  • Hi guys, have been using HTC for 2 mnths but cannot send/receive mms can anyone plz help

  • how can we turn on the base when playing songs??

  • Great multipurpose phone! A bit bulky, but it's got it all! Really stands the test of time. You may give it a tough use and it will NOT let you down. No screen scratches - as the screen is a bit lowered/protected - from the phone's edges. Video call, bluetooth connection, infra red, wifi... you name it! And you even get all sorts of updates, new cooked roms and tweaks from xda-developers! Best value for money phone I know. BTW: How come it isn't on the top chart?

  • Unfortunately the HTC Tytn and its variant does not support 2 way voice recording

  • I'ma afrais I don't know whether recording conversations over BT is possible, but on a regular conversation it is and the other person won't know it. There are several programmes to improve recording on mobile phones. Try to download the user manual here: Anyway, google DOES work. Try to 'google' the questions and you'll find out it will work out better and faster!

  • How does it record a conversation? - Can you record conversations while on a call with or without bluetooth headset? - Will the user on the other side of the phone would know if their conversation is recorded? - I need to download user guide for this phone anyone know the link? Thank you.

  • Strange. Mine has only made one phone call since Sunday, but I charged it Saturday night and AT THIS MOMENT (monday night), it still indicates 70% battery charge. My first impression is that you've got a faulty model and that there is something wrong DIScharging the phone's battery so very quickly. Have you got the time and patience to check it out and try to fix it? I still have the original battery but as it is a discontinued model, I've purchased another which I haven't used, until now as the original keeps working fine. I admit most phones do tend to drain their batteries VERY quickly, but the TYTN's battery is 1300mAh. The Diamond2's is 1100mAh and the phone has a larger screen, integrated GPS, etc. So, beware: before picking a phone, ANY phone, try to verify the battery's capacity (in mAh) and compare it to the phone's specifications. Better Luck next time.

  • got this phone two years ago and just gave up on it. the battery would run dry before end of a day even with the device in sleep mode. got a new battery after trying all the tricks to get it going, same story. Kaiser tweak did not help, rom update did not help and i just got tired of searching and spending on a device that gave nothing close to battery performance as the spec's suggested. i am now even afraid to buy another high end htc unit for fear of having the same thing happen again.

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • This is the best phone I've always had. That's why I still keep it and use it daily. All the features you may need... on a truly reliable. Not a problem so far! It truly stands the test of time. It is worth every vote it gets, so why isn't it on the "Top 15"? Can't "discontinued" bands be on a Top Chart? Do Music charts censor or block out bands whicha are no more? It's really unfair to keep a phone out of the Top simply because it has been discontinued. Then, this top won't show readres' opinions on their phones, but it will serve as an ad to new models.~ I refuse to believe GSM ARENA's Top is being used as a showcase to sell new models!

  • Hi y'all. Am back again and i need another help. I wanna know: 1. is there a way i can format my memory card on the phone, or on my PC without using the memory card adopter, or even scan my phone with the PC? 2. And how can i expand the program's memory to say, my memory card? 3. And can anyone recommend any good antivirus(free) i could use on my phone?

  • I found out how to do it. so please don't worry your self anymore. but thanx for the help so far

  • Be aware this is the TYTN's Forum, so opinions will surely be biased. I myself own a TYTN and I like it a lot. I have a separated GPS Receiver, so I get GPS via bluetooth without any problem; I have a great keyboard, WiFi, camera with flash, Infra Red connection... So, Actually... I don't miss anything, but IT IS a discontinued model. That means, I wouldn't be able to buy a new one... now! If you're buying a second hand model, make sure it is in good shape: verify touch screen, connectivity... everything. Better safe than sorry! Anyway, there are plenty of new models who will probably satisfy your needs and still be available on the market. Choose wisely & Good Luck! :)

  • hi ya all,I m alredy usin htc p3400i.now I want to buy htc tytn .wil it b the gud choice?plz suggest!

  • Thanx Anonymous. I tried it and it worked perfectly. Another thing. Am using opera mini on my phone and i wanna know how to change the directory for storing downloaded files to the memory card. Thank u in advance

  • To All HTC Tytn fans Yes, this is not reflected on the top 10 because this phone is already a discontinued model. So please stop nagging/flooding this forum about why its not on the top ten. You're not helping those who really need help.

  • No problem. If you have "Windows Mobile Device Center", just connect your mobile phone to the pc WHILE the pc is connected to the net. Then go to your phone's browser and you'll see you can simultaneously surf the web on your phone, too. All this happens while you're phone's physically connected via-usb!

  • Hi everyone. i need a little help. let's say i have a computer that connects to the net and i want to browse the net on my phone too via the computer, how do i do that? (i'm using the USB to connect to my phone) Thanx

  • I also like the HTC TYTN a lot! It's my everyday phone. I get to do everything with it. I don't miss a thing compared with current windows mobile-based phones! So,I've voted for it and I think it's really unfair to put it out of the Top. I believe it is an up-to-date, contemporary phone which is full of potential! Is it because it is a discontinued model? Please, explain.

  • I agree!

  • I believe we should write to [email protected] and politely ask them to correct (and explain) their Top Chart. It is indeed unfair and sad to see the TYTN out of the Chart when it has a much better score than most of the phones in it (8.6 - 8.6 - 8.6) and it fully deserves it, despite not being a "novelty". It is still a great phone and if newer models had evolved and developed accordingly, we would have MUCH better phones nowadays.

  • Why does the TYTN have 3X 8.6 as score and it is out of the Top Chart? Th first phone to Score 3x 8.6 is the Samsung I8000 Omnia II and it's on Position no 5!!! It is simply NOT FAIR! Please, verify what I am telling you as it is the absolute truth. Friday, 19th February 01:47

  • from my experience it has nothing to do with your phone setup. its usually the router. change the security setting on the router to wep instead of wpa/wpa2.

  • I have this phone and its great but I have one problem and cant find solution for it:I can connect with WIFI on open networks where no key is needed, but on a locked network,in cases whan I know the key normaly,i cant connect.I use WMobile 6.1 on the TyTN,so is there something that I need to adjust on this phone to be able to cennect to the Internet. Please, please respond to my question becouse this is a big problem for me. Thank you.

  • Hi, u've used your phone for this long and your battery doesn't give u any problems? I also wanna find out: does the phone connect to the computer automatically without installing the software?

  • Brilliant HP! Not one hiccup since it arrived in the post almost 3 years ago and the battery is still the original too! HTC were virtually unheard of back in 2007 and providers were scratching their heads how to combat the threat of good, reliable smart mobiles. One issue, petty I would agree, is it's not really all that mobile due to it's bulk and weight but that apart, it's as good now as any netbook around! Wouldn't trade it for any other mobile.

  • What a great phone! All functions you can ask for and... Still working GREAT after all these years!

  • I couldn't agree more! This is looking like a "FAN's Forum", but the TYTN does deserve it! Also very happy with mine. Not even considering changing. Why should I? Regards.

  • I agree. This one's a classic, a must! Great audio, great multimedia phone. It was the best in its time and after all these years it still remains a great multi-purpose mobile phone. I've voted for it and I sure hope it tops our chart! :)

  • A bit bulky, but a grrrrreat multimedia/multi-purpose phone. The TYTN actually stands the test of time. 'Loving It! ;)

  • Great phone: Photos with flah / Video Call / Memory cards up to 16GB / Great audio quality / Bluetooth / Infrared / WiFi / Keyboard and... a battery that beats most of today's newer models! Letdown? You need to buy a separate GPS receiver, which will be easy to use, but it will still force you to take phone AND GPS receiver whenever you wat to use it. Otherwise, a great phone that I do NOT wish to swap for any of today's models. * yet ;) * (Who knows what tomorrow may bring...)

  • You may purchase it straight from HTC's site or google for a suitable (cheaper?) battery. Most large shops have them on sale. The official HTC battery is Model Ba S100. It actually says "HTC TyTN Battery" on the package. Anyway, if you find a suitable battery elsewhere, make sure its rating is: 3.7 VDC ---1350 mAh Good Luck!

  • I think this is one of the best PDA/PPC phones, ever! Let's get those votes in and put it right back where it deserves! Best wishes: A TYTN fan

  • Completing my Reply: I also believe that with so many people still using the TYTN, it deserved to be in the TOP of "our" GSM ARENA! It's got all it takes to be a classic!

  • No. Only a green light on the left (get/make call) symbol and a red one on the rifght phone symbol (hang up). There are no other lights on the keys. As for a new battery, you may purchase it straight from HTC site or google for a suitable (cheaper?) battery. Most large shops have them on sale. The official HTC battery is Model Ba S100. It actually says "HTC TyTN Battery" on the package. Anyway, if you find a suitable battery elsewhere, make sure its rating is: 3.7 VDC ---1350 mAh Good Luck!

  • pls, no one has responded to my questions i asked. i just wanna know if the buttons for "windows" and "ok" have background lights, and if i can get a battery for the phone?

  • I second that motion!

  • X2 !!! Let's get this phone into the top chart, fairly!

  • I use my tytn intensively and I also agree it's still up-to-date, specially if you own a separate gps receiver ehich you can use with any other phone. I also noticed this phone's ratings and I agree that it should be in the top 15 by its full right. Considering scores and number of votes it could never be out of the top 15. Why does this happen? Maybe there is a reasonable, logical explanation. I look forward to hearing from the webmasters. Regards.

  • I couldn't agree more! It's really unfair. Witrh these scores, the HTC TYTN should be in the TOP by its own right- What has happened? What were the criteria? I appeal to the Administrators to correct this injustice! Thnk you all.

  • Question: Why is this phone out of the Top Chart? Its scores (8.5 - 8.6 - 8.5) and the number of votes (7363) should grant it a place AT LEAST in the 13th or 14th position. Is it because it's a not-so-recent model? I would really like to know why it's ou of the chart. Of course, I own and I like this phone, so I notice this. But, above all, I consider it unfair. The GSM Arena chart should be unbiased and rigorous!

  • The best you can do is stream various radio channels if you have access to either a data plan or wifi. There are several major software houses with Radio streaming programmes such as SPB Radio. (no advertising intended, it's just a software I know that works) Try to google it to find your favourite software.

  • Thanks fellas tou are great. And and and Can you download any software to enable Radio/FM access? And if yes kindly send the links. So far so good, save, i guess for the network problem or failure especially when trying to enquire my balance using *141# or loading bundles on *141*9*2# on MTN RSA network is there anyone who has encountered such? what could be the problem? Thanks guys Love

  • Hey, thanx so much for the tips u gave. You gave me an idea on how much i can optimize my phone. Big-ups to u

  • I just got one of the HTC TyTN and i wanna know if the buttons for "window" and "ok" can light up? Mine does not. And can i get a battery for my phone?

  • I confirm. The HTC TYTN supports 8 and 16 GB card without any problem. You may choose the size that better suits you without worries.

  • Definitely, YES! I have a 8 GB card on mine and it works just fine! It was immediately recognised and it's currently packed with GPS Software, Apps and Games, still showing about 3gb free.

  • well, But is it not possible to use a 4gig memory card?

  • X2!!! *Applause* :) I couldn't agree more! * The only difference is I use my gps receiver in my pocket (not on my hand) and it still works. Have you considered using a "ribbon" around your neck? Carrying it on the hand, may even become dangerous. * Anyway, I find an external GPS receiver does NOT suffer from the lag other phones with "integrated" GPS Receivers. It's MUCH more accurate. I've compared it several times with other people's (newer) phones.

  • This HTC TyTN (also called Orange M3100) is a great phone (I even prefer to use it than the Nokia E71 I've bought!). But let's begin with it's 4 negative points : *the RAM is low (only 64MB) so you'll notice big lags if you install one of the cooked ROM available on xda website (for example the Windows 6.5 ROM or any TouchFLO Rom). So the better is to install the basic Windows 6.1 version and do not open more than one software on the same time! *The second negative point: at least once per week it'll bug and you'll have to do a softreset... Anoying but it's the same with ALL the Windows phone (on this point the Nokias smartphones with their Symbian software are much more stable !). *The third negative point is the absence of an internal GPS (but in my car I use it with an external Bluetooth GPS and it's great ; but on foot it's annoying because you'll have to handle both the TyTN and the Bluetooth GPS device in your hands...). *The last negative point: it doesn't have a standard 3.5mm jack but a unique USB slot for charging the battery and the handsfree kit. The solution : to buy from Brando website a specific extension cable including a micro that will allow you to use any headphones and at the same time recharging the battery. NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT IT'S POSITIVE POINTS !!! *Very tough device: it falled down a lot and it's still working ! *Its mechanical keyboard is just wonderful when you want to write SMS, email, or even tchatting on Messenger (by the way I advice you to try Palringo, the best free multimessenger on mobile phones). *eventhough it's camera is only 2 Mpx it takes superb pictures (a lot better ones than other 3 Mpx phones as the Nokia E71!). *the jogdial on the side and the Dpad on the front : very useful. *you can use on it without any problems a GPS software as TomTom or Garmin Mobile XT (of course you'll have to buy an external Bluetooth GPS). *its flash is top as a pocketlamp ! *so cheap now on the second hand units market! *it's a Windows phone so you can install a lot of free and useful softwares ! You can visit the xda website and you'll see how many things you can do with a Windows smartphone and specially with a HTC one !!! Here's a list of FREE software you HAVE TO install on the TyTN in order to enjoy using it and that will work without lagging : *Total Commander (the best explorer for your files!) *PocketCM ImageViewer *Calendar+ *pBar *PPC Pim Backup (to backup and restore your Windows phone in just few minutes and very easily!). *iContact (very good phonebook!) *Opera Mini 5 beta 2 (the best browser!) *Palringo (the best multimessenger soft!) *Google Maps *MSS Converter *Skype (to send SMS at low cost!) *MO-Call (international calls at low cost!) *Midomi (it'll tell you the name of the song played on the radio or TV in few seconds !) *Kinoma FreePlay (a multimedia soft) *MIDlet Manager *MyStopWatch *Pocket Forecast *PocketCM Keyboard (much bigger virtual keyboard) *Skyfire (a web browser) *Windows Live *Facebook *YouTube

  • Your phone has still much to offer. If you're looking for updates, new ROMs and much, much more, I'd suggest you got started here: It's the best, most updated, most completee site I can recommend! There's also Besides that, try google for any specific need you have. You'll be amazed on the huge variety of software (Radios, ROMs, apps and games) that is available for our TYTN! Enjoy your phone. Season's Greetings!

  • well,I have just been introduced to htc[tytn] and I must say the function are ok.I want to find out if its update is available for now and also want to know if certain functions such as radio could be installed.kindly reply through my email address;[email protected] -i'll be grateful if you could answer me to enable me make use of my device, thanks.

  • I've also hadone for more than a year without any problems so far. Battery life could be bette Sure, but it's still better than many current models, so I guess I won't complain. ;o) It's a great reliable phone. It has great sound quality, video call, WiFi, Infra Red and Bluetooth! What more could you ask for? What more could you need? Very happy with mine. And I sure don't intend to spend money on a new model soon...

  • Been using it for more than 1 year, and still very satisfied with it. Never have any major problem with it. Wifi still works well, HSDPA internet connection works well, phone call never be a problem, casing still looks okay (unlike lots of those hi-end nok** phones which the paints' easily peel off). The only drawback is it's RAM & ROM capacity is small to be compared with today's most mid to hi-end PDAs. Oh yeah, and the battery capacity too, wish it could last longer. But anyway, still love the phone!!!

  • That's a very OLD update, but... Can this be IT? Anyway, if you exerience any problems, I would advise getting in touch (via email, for example) with HTC and ask them for any further advice, Good Luck.

  • hello , i am Kira , i have a htc tytn herm 200 , i wander if you give me how i can find and installe windows mobile 6.1 on my tytn ? thank you for your answers.

  • Not sure... sorry! Here's the right place to ask for help: And here you have a thread dedicated to our phone (TYTN = HERMES) I guess you already have a good starting point. Good Luck with your "Quest"!

  • hello evrey one ...... i am a univercity student and i have a tytn with spb mobile shell 3.5 version end its very cool , i love my pocket and i use it every day in my classe , i have many games ...... many softwers ...... many thinges onit . but i have a simple question :" can the "touchflo 2d manilla " runne in the tytn , and how you can install it ? thank you for you help .......... WML

  • windows mobile 7 ISN'T available, yet! Not until next year... no certain realease date up to now. What you've got for newer models is an upgrade to your current TYTN OS (WM 6.1) which is WM 6.5. SOme of the newer models as the Diamond2 may update their ROMS officially. Brand new phones are being sold with 6.5 already installed, but I believe that is "too much" for the HTC TYTN. As far as I'm concerned I've seen some 6.5 ROMS available to our TYTNs, but I've read reports they're slow and use too much RAM. I like my phone as it is. :) I'd stay well away of that (WM6.5) if I were you!

  • Is it possible to install WM7 on this? Had a HTV Magician for a year ago, and during that time I wished for one with WM7 capabilities.

  • This is the best phone I've always had. That's why I still keep it and use it daily. All the features I need... Not a problem so far! It truly stands the test of time. It is worth every vote it gets, so why isn't it on the "Top 15"?

  • can i put tracker on my phone

  • Sure you are not using CAPS LOCK. The password recognises MAJOR and minor Caps. Check out if you're "spelling" it correctly. That never happened to me...

  • I put a password word protect but now when i switch the phone on it tells me it is the incorrect password even though that is the one I created How do I work around this???

  • You can install ANY GPS software that runs on Windows Mobile: TomTom, Route66, NDrive, IGo, Route66, Co-Pilot... you name it (actually, if the memory card and your wallet i$ big enough... you can have them ALL!)! You just need to buy a GPS Receiver that will "commnunicate" with your TYTN via bluetooth and will serve as "antenna". This is what my experience tells me: Pros: You'll get much LESS lag (i.e. a much more precise location) than when you use other phones with internal receiver/antenna. Cons: You'll need to take the GPS Receiver ALWAYS with you. No Receiver = No "LIVE" GPS. Anyway, the software you'll install - even without your receiver - will work! That means, you can still visualise maps, plan trips, check distances, etc. Obviously, you won't "be guided-as-you-go" as you travel and you won't get real-time positioning. Try to check the software you prefer, the one that has better maps, etc. Don't forget you may have/own MORE than ONE Software on your phone. You can prefer Route66 in some areas and TomTom (no Ad intended!) in others, even abroad. Easy: Just install both and run the one you prefer depending on your location/planned trip.

  • Can I install a GPS in this phone ? I love the phone and I dont want to change or have another thing plug in my car . Remember I am not very tech oriented Any help will be appreciated .

  • I couldn't agree more. Full of functions, plenty of software available and still... a great phone! :o)

  • i use this phone.. awesome..!!!

  • The first models did have a calibration problem which was solved under guarantee. Could that be the case? No problems whatsoever, here. Try to ask for an honest opinion in a repair's centre. Maybe, they'll find an easy solution. Good Luck!

  • In y opinion It falls in the display I have many problems with the toush calibration

  • How come this phone isn't on the top chart? It's STILL got great reviews and scores. It deserves to be considered a CLASSIC! Better than most of newer models with lower specs. Gotta love this phone!

  • I couldn't agree more. I still have a Bluetooth GPS receiver which 'links' to the TYTN with a much smaller lag than most current "in-phone" receivers. The front buttons are VERY useful and the "joystick/scroll" buttons in the middle are really, useful, for instance, to play games on my TYTN. Actually, I really believe this IS a great phone, even by today's standards and even if compared to HTC's more recent models which still haven't got a 3.5" audio jack and have lost the front keys, the IR connection and the flash light which is actually useful, not only on photos, but also as an actual 'flash light'. I only wish companies such as HTC could feel more commited to their many customers and customer-satisfaction and less to their (certainly, fewer) stock holders. Profit should never be the ultimate and only goal to be achieved at all cost! In fact, there is much more to a really successful company. Otherwise, their fame (and their profit) will not last long... and another 'profit-hungry' company will take their place... for some fleeting time...

  • Ahhh I did love this phone. Upgraded to an e71 purely to get better battery life. Which it delivered. But as a piece of kit, I loved the TyTN. If a new phone came out a bit slimmer, with better battery life and GPS, I'd never upgrade again. Why did phone manufacturers stop making phones with so many buttons and a scroll wheel? They were great...

  • But, more importantly DO search for your favourite theme on google. It will be easier to seek and choose the type of theme/icons/wallpapers you like the best.

  • Can anyone advice how to change the Theme for this phone? my is currently loaded with windows mobile 6.0

  • Great multipurpose/overall phone. It will allow you to take advantage of its flah for you photos, it 's got WiFi, Bluetooth and Infra Red connections and it still has all you may need on a phone! If you've got a TYTN, you really don't need to go out spending your money on a newer phone just because of its specifications. Just because it's "old", that doesn't mean it's outdated or obsolete! I'd prefer to consider it "Vintage"! :o)

  • Good Old Phone! Strong and Reliable. I only wish they stil made phones like this using today's technologies!

  • I believe Microsoft wants to KILL all competitors as the most popular mobile phone platform. But the overall "Apple solution" it is copying (hardware + service + all_hardware_accessories + all_extra_software_you_need) will always be too expensive for vast majority of consumers. And our money is the most important and strongest VET POWER! Let's not forget it!

  • Other than the cosmetics, I can't see any reason to upgrade to WM6.5!

  • Quite so. Actually, IE mobile and market place are mesnt to keep you spending money and financing Microsoft as Apple does with their Iphones... It's a marketing gimmick which will try to monopolize (not sure the word exists) the mobile software market. If Microsoft achieves its purpose we will be left with only two giant corporations (Applevs Microsoft) on which we'll depend for every bit of software we''ll ever need allowing them to contro our phones' contentes and forcing us to pay whatever they decide to make us pay! That's why (although I own a WM based TYTN) I hope Android will be successful and many other "open-source" options based on sharing and P2P will appear.

  • I agree, even I didn't think of installing 6.5 Im already very satisfied with the 6.1 that I have. I think the only major upgrade for 6.5 is the IE mobile and market place.

  • I'm not sure I would advise it. It may make your phone slow as it is a "HEAVY" OS... After all, with so many "cooked" ROMs around, what would be the great advantage of installing WM 6.5? All ain all, don't forget to check for minimum requirements (RAM / ROM / Processor, etc) for WM 6.5

  • Worst phone ever! Endless problems: face buttons stopped working, display colour goes black+purple (needs reset) stylus broke, touch-screen cracked (not covered under warranty), keeps hanging up (has to be reset), refuses to make calls (has to be reset), power port failed (couldn't recharge or connect USB), ringer (speaker) silent (can't hear phone ringing), loses high-speed data connection after a call (reset) and and and...

  • yes, you can try xda developer forum

  • can i install windows mobile 6.5 on this?

  • whene i turn on my phone.there is 3coiour aparts in the screen. I try to reset it but i can not resat it. Please tell me what happned this cell phone? How can i fixed it?

  • This phone is NUMERO UNO!!! :)

  • Yeah! Let's get this great phone into the charts! :)

  • My thoughts exactly!

  • I second that motion!

  • x2!

  • Iagree: How come this phone is constantly out of the top chart if it scores so well? There are always phones with lower scores on the chart. Is it because they're newer models? Please, explain.

  • To the modertor I have mentioned t mobile and the 3 network. if that is wrong then I am very sorry. Will be very gateful if you will, if needed in anyway reword my questions. Also i put that windows mobile is great compared to symbian. Can you please remove that. For both have there possitive points. For i use a nokia E61 and a N96 which in there own right are excellent. Also as the htc Wizard TyTn and blackberry 8110 which i also own. Sorry [email protected]

  • Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to windows mobile. (What a great O.S. comparing to symbian) Using a MDA Vario 2, in other words a Tytn. It's unlocked with T Mobile branding. Doesn't work on the 3 network. I've got 11 month left on a 3 contract. Does anyone know how i can make it work on 3 please. It's running windows 2005 and I really wish it to run on 6.1 Rom. I don't really wish to spend money on the TyTn II or other HTC's. Do xda developers charge for using there site? (I recommend freeware for various downloads) I will be very grateful for any info. please reply on this site or you can email me on [email protected] (I know I am asking for a great deal of info. I wish to learn more so I can pass it on to others as well) Thankyou

  • How come this phone is constantly out of the top chart if it scores so well? There are always phones with lower scores on the chart. Is it because they're newer models? Please, explain.

  • Great phone - even by today's standards. I have bee using it for 2 years now, without problems. So, I guess I really can't complain. Definitely recommended!

  • I agree. It's reliable and has got all the functions I need. Wouldn't change it.

  • Wonderful, reliable phone. Lots of functions, apps & games + which keep on doing a great job! Strongly recommended.

  • Actually, I'll have to agree on that one. Why no flash, no geotagging or 3.5mm jack on new(er) phones? BTW, what are these companies waiting for to get wireless N on mobile phones?

  • Having a TYTN myself and having tested an PRO2, I have to say the evolution hasn't been significant. I'm afrais much more was to be expected in terms of specs and connectivity (no 3.5 jack, no wifi N, no radio out of the box, no camera flah, now! etc.) If I were to buy a new phone, of course I would consider the PRO2, but I believe there is NO NEED whatsoever to change. It just isn't worth it. My TYTN is working with an 8Gb card (which is quite enough)and I'm convinced only marketing strategies and peer pressure lead people into buying new phones WHEN they already have perfectly suitable models. Mobile phones must take a giant leap as far as PRICE, Compability and Specifications are concerned. Otherwise, we'll just be making rich companies even richer for no good reason!

  • I have to agree this is still one of the best ppc on wm around. It has all the features, including flashlight, a great battery and it is still up-to-date, no matter what you want it for! :o) But beware, htc, nowadays, other phones have gone much further than your current phones with no flash, weak batteries, no 3.5 jack and other major faults...

  • great phone... For its time and NOW!!! It's got wifi, keyboard, a great battery and all the WM functions you can expect. If you visit xda you'll even find tweaks and upgrades that will rival all new phones. I just wish it had a larger screen... But THIS is the pphone I own and - for the time being - I WON'T exchange it... no need to!

  • moto a3100 is beter choice ??? teah. right... keep drinking the wine dude!

  • oh expencive moto a3100 is beter choice and beter price

  • were do i find the video recorder

It has opened my eyes to what technology is available and how easy it is to use. Highly recommended!!!

  • My apology for taking so long to reply, but in response to your question, please visit this link: It will tell you how to do everything, including backup your data, get Windows Mobile 6, and upgrade your phone. Read everything *carefully*; twice if you need. If you like, my recommendation is to get the either "Hermes ShadoW 2.0 TE" or "Schaps WM6 Pro 4.31". Both are Windows Mobile 6 and both makes your phone looks absolutely beautiful. Also, you might to install SkyFire and HTC Youtube. SkyFire will let you view a lot of great video websites, like Hulu. HTC Youtube is a user friendly and good looking app that will let you view Youtube videos. Have a good day!

  • It`s good for a start in the PDA domain...to get used to Windows Mobile and the applications.

  • How to put a mp3 tone when there is an incoming call on my phone(HTC)?

  • I have owned this phone for roughly a year now (in the form of Cingular 8525) and I've never been happier. This is my first 'PDA phone' and, unlike many others out there, this is among the most moddable phones ever. When I got it, it had basic features, and Windows Mobile 5. Today, it is unlocked (I did it myself less than a week after getting it; it was done in less than twenty minutes), and I installed a customized version of Windows Mobile 6 Professional on it. Furthermore, I may be in the minority, but I love that the phone is bulky. It fits better into my hands and it allows the QWERTY keyboard to feel better. Otherwise, the biggest compliment I can probably pay this phone is that it's incredibly advanced in specs. It was released in 2006, yet near the end of 2008, I still feel like I haven't fell back technologically at all (although it would be nice if the phone had a GPS antenna; but a bluetooth GPS receiver works nicely too). Overall, I rate this phone extremely nicely. Worth every single penny.

  • Htc released a couple of drivers for vista a while ago, but it is missing on there new site. Does someone knows how to get these drivers ? It is about the drivers that are necessary to use this phone as a modem. Thx a lot!

  • My dear I faced the same problem. but after sync with a new pc, its alike unbelievable, all buttons run smoothly and very easier in touch\manage for both of device or pc. all problems gone, yaeh!. I think perhaps ur pcs problems - doesn't run properly in synced. or try to hard reset first, sync again. If the same problems will occur. I'm sure its affected by ur pcs

  • WM6.1 will run fine on this PPC... even manilla 3d or 2d will run smothly :)

  • iam a new user of htc tytn, its language is not english, its german which i dun understand. kindly tell me how to change its language into english.

  • airfagev.com - windows mobile community

  • Doesn't WM6.1 demand 128mb RAM or more? The TyTN is running realy old hardware, but anyway i don't know a lot about this stuff, but looking at current WM6.1 devices i'd assume that 6.1 is seriously demanding.

  • yes i have this mob n it's very nice i have some problem with progroms .if u can pls help me in that or give me any site for help ..i'll wait ur reply

  • Where can I get WM 6 for my tytn and tell me is is it going to be worth it.

  • look on the website website to find more information

  • Yah i wish that HTC would release an offical Windows 6.1 ROM for the TyTN too. Why does have to HTC shun TyTN users like an unwanted step child.

  • I love these phone!!! It is easy to use(if u have half a brain working) Has very little proplems(all phones have some) It is tough as nail mine has been threw hell and back still works perfect(evan got wet once) As for the compare to black berries there is none!!! It does every thing a blackberry does and tons more try watching u tube on a black berry or wi/fi or evan a movie. HTC does it all!!! Ive been selling phones for 9 years now this one far is the best!!! Hands down. My next phone will be the HTC TOUCH PRO!!!

  • Hi I search for updating WM 6 for HTC Tytn, Sweden language. I will be very grateful that you will specify where I can download it. At me stood WM6, but I have not kept an updating file. Please, it can at whom has remained Thanks Grigori

  • Yes, you can use one, Bluetooth type. Configure on port 9.

  • am realy pleased with the phone i believe its made things a lot easier for me when i work n its cost is just right.

  • Can i use a external gps with this htc tytn 1 for navogating?

  • very dirty phone not good very costly

  • Camera application doesn't launch. Battery doesn't last 8 hours in standby mode. Phone drops active sync link after 20 secs with USB and Bluetooth

  • They should definitely release 6.1 for the TyTN.

  • Is HTC planning to release officially release windows mobile 6.1 for this phone?

  • I have been using the TyTN for 2 months and I am very happy with the performance. I am using it in the USA with no issues. I have company E-mail on outlook and can now check E-mail anywere I have a phone signal (including China). The functionality is good and I prefer this phone over the US AT&T tilt which is the USA version of this phone. The USA tilt software from AT&T is poor and not as functional as the HTC software. Pictures are OK to good(this is a PDA not a camera)for a phone. there are lots of extra available to download as well to help tailor the phone for your personal use.

  • had this phone on orange for over 2 years now, never had a single problem with it, i also used numerous blackberry's, and the htc beats it in almost everyway.

  • I being using this phone for a long time now and never gave me any problems,it runs better with windows 6. And it would be nice to have built in gps.

  • I have this phone and I don't have a single problem with it. I would suggest trying one before making a decision!

  • I dont recommend any HTC phones they are too hard to use and have alot of softwear problems I recommend a Blackberry or a Palm

  • I really dont like the phone battery life is very low! and the touch screen is also giving me a lot of problems!

  • I'm really have no idea.. Would u mind telling me, please.

  • Register as an htc club member. Download the top software on phone update page. Ignore all the things the installer tells you to do. I tried to update myne over a 100 times and it never worked until I did it this way. I also found a site that tells you to ignore it but cant remember what its name is. (this is how I found out how to update.) 1. Make sure your battery is charged and that you have backed up your phone contents and you Vodacom etc connection settings. 2. Plug your phone into your computer (running XP, update will not work on Vista) 3. Run the update program. Just click next. It will find no software on your phone... Your phone will also go into its "upgrade mode" rom screen, some or other colours cant remember. 4. When you click on update your phone will the switch to a progress bar. 5. Once this is finished your phone will reboot and you have WM6 on your phone. Sorry if this is a bit vague but I updated my phone a while back so I cant remember everything. NB. I did this knowing that I can brick my phone and then pay a sh** load to fix it so be prepared for anything. and make sure you have a UPS in case of the power cuts :D I hope I helped. if you want anything else you can contact me via micts.co.za. Don't want to put my email due to spam!

  • I like it. I have it and i'm glad. Yes TyTn not for peoples who get or make lots off call. But all function he have I using.

  • Just a great PDA-phone. Had it fore some months now, absolutely no problems... Cooked, clean ROMs speed up the system even more, there's enough RAM&ROM memory, snd quality is great, everything works like a charm.

  • In RSA (South Africa). Considering buying TYTN... Concern: What is the sound quality like on Speaker & Headphones? Besides functionality i want a good music phone! Any south africans having the phone experiencing any problems? email me PLZ!

  • Great phone!!Just got it, very impressed with it.Highly recommend it. Super!

  • to use ringtones as alarm tone you have to convert it to .wav file, put it in device windows folder and you can set it as alarm tone, piece of cake

  • Just a great smartphone. Completely satisfied. A bit bulky, but whatever. Please, do not compare it to phones like n80 etc., it's just ridiculous.

  • It is possible but then you have to make the file .wav and paste it in the WINDOWS map :) Good Luck

  • Can you watch YouTube videos on this handset? If so, please advise as to how this can be set up? Thanks.

  • My htc tytn is switching with the touchscreen off. I cannnot use the sylus pen as if it malfunctioned. Can anyone help me.

  • Sorry Paulo, my comments apply to HTC TyTN II (which is what I have). They may not apply to the first version HTC TyTN.

  • Paulo - to get GPS working first you have to run the QuickGPS application and download the satellite data. I have setup mine to download via ActiveSync ie every time it docks. Then your GPS will work e.g. install and use Google Maps and select "Use GPS".

  • Does later model of HTC TyTn (not Tytn II) comes with windows 6 OS? Please reply urgent.

  • is there any option of dual sim cards fecility in htc phones.if it is available pl let me know .along with featchers

  • n80 hits the tytn section?oh well at least it makes a change from n95 lol

  • n80 better than the TyTN for surfing the web?You must be joking.I had the n80 and had to use opera mini to fully browse websites

  • I can use my TyTN one handed. The software is widely available to achieve this.I agree the Safari browser is great, the standard internet explorer is rubbish.Try Netfront 3.3 for windows mobile (really a tremendous browser)I\'m not sure why but netfront on my old n70 only had half the features of this version

  • it looks nice but 2 bad no price added what about instant internet access?

  • This is realy a great phone, been busy using it all day, still a bit difficult for me since im so used to my Symbian s60v3 Nokia N80. Its a shame the screen quality is so poor on the TyTN, but otherwise im enjoying it especialy the Web Browsing, its nearly on par with N80, but still feel Nokia Safari Browser is better. The TyTN is HUGE but realy lite weight and not bad at all. What i will say is i dont recommend this if you like one-handed use smartphones.

  • Hi all, when sliding out the qwerty keyboard, is the backlight of keyboard auto light up? coz right now its not the case. juz got this phone. tks

  • pros; - wifi - qwerty keypad - 3G - touch screen - big screen - office mobile cons; - bulky and heavy - other line cant hear u well when using speaker - music files arent that loud when using headphones and also the qaulity of the sound can be better - ALL microsoft operating systems used today is garbage - picture and video qaulity isnt the best - cant custom ur own text message or alarm ring - i have other problems with this phone but i think its my OS (frikkin microsoft) bottom line, this phone is good if ur a business person that needs office mobile, or if u make a lot of appointments or even an average person that wants a lot of features in a phone (like me) i give it a 6.5 out of 10

  • Great phone. I've got the Softbank version from Japan, and to my luck it wasn't switched on before I got my hands on it, so I was able to upgrade the radio, along with the OS. For me frankly, it isn't worth the extra cash to get the TyTN II just yet since mine has almost all the functionality save for the 3MP camera and GPS (which my car has, and I don't use)

  • how do i get the internet to work thru wifi instead of using the internet thru the service provider?

  • This phone is just about the closest u can get 2 an almost perfect phone. Its gr8. I got mine since april and I've never regretted the day I bought it.

  • I just recently got the TyTN and I can seem to get no display on my screen. I press the back of the phone and the screen comes alive & the batary life is on full. I need to find a Service Provider that can help. I live in NYC, will someone help

  • Does anyone know how to set the phone to use GSM signal for voice calls and to use 3G/ HSDPA exclusively for DATA and INTERNET? Because at the moment it toggles between GSM and 3G for both voice and DATA. When this happens, it depletes the battery a lot sooner and gives very bad reception for voice calls when it goes into 3G where there is poor 3G. It would be nice to permanently put it on GSM for voice calls. And let it use 3G just for DATA etc. Any advice or software link would be greatly appreciated.

  • can you get flash player on this phone so that you can watch videos on youtube?

  • I love this phone, got it as a Softbank phone.. Decent WM6 phone with most of the features i need. Lacking in GPS, of which i have it as external unit. Used this phone for around half a phone.

I have consulted Vf customer care, its internet department, ...etc. and nobody seems to know what could be wrong. Can anyone help?

  • Yes this phone is better than the HP IPAQ 6915. The IPAQ doesn't even have 3G. This phone doesn't have GPS, for that, wait for the 8925 (Kaiser). It's (8925)the same as this phone(TyTN) but with a GPS, a tilt screen and 512M memory.

  • Hi - Can anyone tell me which phone performs - better - HP IPAQ 6915 or This TyTN? thanks

  • hi- I need to know if this phone can be used as GPS receiver also??? maybe with TOMTOM or what ever - Pls advise- thanks-SP

  • Still the best in this summer 2007: HSDPA, 3G, WIFI, 2Mpixels, Flash, 400mhZ cpu easely overclockable to 425mhz, confortable keyboard, transflash up to 2Go and Winmobile5 upgradable to Winmobile6 without any problem, and pretty small stylus. Only a little bit large, keyboard not well locked when the phone is closed, and a weak brightness when the sun rises.

  • what do you mean? i phone is better or not?

  • I just bought this phone from AT&T(Cingular). It's called the 8525. My phone has the at&t logo on it and came pre-installed with the latest WM5 update. I live in Las Vegas and I'm get around 800k (3G I believe) download according to "www.dslreports/mspeed" I think the AT&T branded phones are more stable than the Cingular branded ones because I had one of those first, then I applied the update to it and it went to hell quickly, I returned it and got this one. P.S. Before I had any of these phones I tried the iPhone...don't waste your money like I did. It can't compete at all with this baby! If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks

  • hii have always had a nokia and took the plunge to change to a tytn. great features and easy to use but i am battling to get my data from nokia 9500 via blutooth to this phone it keep bombing out . also it often drops calls .any solutions .thanks in advance rajen

  • if you like windows mobile 6 official htc release, download it here:

  • Just thought ill add my two cents. All in all once you have flashed it to the standard HTC rom its a great phone and even better PDA. Mines got a whole host of wifi proggys on and TomTom too which was the realy test to see if it kept up. It did! I hope all that reads this at least trys this phone as its well worth a go. One thing i will say is it is bulky which you kinda expect from this kind of device.

  • Hello all, I just got this phone last week and so far I'm loving it. I only have one problem though, every time I try to connect to WiFi, the phone kind of just stops working. I can't use the touch screen at all, but the tracker wheel still works. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just my phone? Or is there something wrong that I'm doing? Please help!!! Thanks in advance! :)

  • For Sara and everyone who needs a brighter screen. Visit the link and download this small file. I have put it as a shortcut on the screen (I use "spb pocket plus") and works perfectly.

  • Hi Sara! Of course you can customize the background as well as the brightness of the screen. I have had this phone for 10 months, but I changed it for the lighter P3600. But if you need the keyboard, this phone is the greatest ever!

  • hey can i play MPEG4 on this phone?? please e-mail me..... thanks

  • oh, also, what is the difference between this one and the Softbank X101HT?

  • Hi, I am considering buying this phone, but I have a few questions. Can the background be customized? I've been reading several reviews, and a few people have mentioned that the green screen is hard to read in bright sunlight, so I was wondering if this can be customized. Overall, I've read pretty good reviews for the phone, but this is the first time I will be going for a non-Nokia phone, so I am quite scared. I am from Toronto - with Fido, so is there anyone else who is with Fido and has experience in terms of how the reception is on the phone? I would really appreciate any feedback you guys had. Thanks in advance! :)

  • Hey guys, how fast is the internet on the tytn?

  • I really enjoy my TyTN, it's excellent PDA, and i agree that music isn't very good from standard headphones, but if u will change it for something else (like Jabra BT320) and add a new player (TCPMP or Sompy) it will be better :)

  • no idea what you're talking about, mine doesn't have problems during calls. have you tried to contact htc assistance? it really IS a great PPC (not a smartphone).

  • easy smartphone, but same problem for phone use, sometimes no connection, even during calls no connection. is there a possibility to prevent this from happening

  • Hey, i just got the TyTn for Rogers(canada) I dont Know Weather its just my unit, but when I listen to music using the earpiece that comes with the phone, the volume is realy low, nothing like the nokia n91 or the 6670.... is there something im missing?!?!?!

  • i have found a website that will give you the WM6 professional for your 8525 or TyTn, gives you the option to download the cingular settings or the nonbranded settings, I use it now and i love my 8525, just wish i had the 3g video call camera!

  • This phone DOES include a GPS chip, however it is nearly impossible to enable due to the way it has been Disabled at the factory. A cheap SiRFStar III BT GPS unit will run you ~$50 and not risk bricking your phone. Read more below:

  • It's a good ppc. However I got a problem, sometimes people call me, for them the calling is ok but I have no signs on my tytn, no ring and nothing else on the video. In this case I have to reset it. Has anyone the same problem?

  • can i open http://www..... pages with this one?

  • Pls inform me whther HTC TyTN can operate the microsoft voice command 1.6

  • This device have a GPS navigational chip. In order to activated, you need to buy an external antenna since the internal antenna is shorted. It usually cost around 5~10 USD Then download a 3rd party mapping software nad use it.

  • if u cant sync office 2007 with active sync 4.5 upgrade your TyTN to WM6 ....

  • TyTN is not a smartphone, it's a PocketPC (PPC). If you don't now the difference, Google it.

  • To Sachin, Thats SA? I would recommend the tytn if you are a smartphone fan but if you're not then I would go for the N95

  • hi! need to buy a new phone live in SA! what do you reccomend, have had sony s700 and w 900 so far! need smethn wit wifi and 3g!

  • tri-band 3g

  • battery life is great! two days with bluetooth always on and using wi-fi 3x to check mail and IM for a bit.

  • To person from mississauga, That price seems really high, if you were to buy it unlocked with no plan it would be about $600, but if you are a serious user go for it.

  • I think this is a wonderful phone. Being able to access my various mail accounts, internet, and my work servers with VPN connectivity and Terminal Services absolutely great. Bluetooth, IR, WiFi, its all there if you want connectivity, this is the phone for you. The only problem is that I can't seem to sync my contacts with Office 2007, even after upgrading to Active Sync 4.5 Microsoft, help ... Seems asif a lot of people have this problem. All in all this is a great phone, the best I have ever owned.

  • hey i live in mississauga(ontario, canada) and im thinking about buying this phone on a 3 year plan with rogers which will cost me 399.99. is this a good phone to buy? i really like it but i need one that has exceptional reception. thank you

  • FOR SOUTH AFRICANS USING TYTN. IF PHONE IS DROPPING CALLS OR HAS POOR RECEPTION. For the TyTN 1. Click on Start 2. Go to Settings 3. Choose the Phone icon 4. Now choose the band tab at the bottom of the screen 5. Now change the select your network type box to GSM 6. Change the Select your GSM/UMTS band to GSM (900+1800)+UMTS(2100)

  • Hello, Has anyone here been able to sync this phone with iSync on a powerPC mac? Not intel macs. Useing iSync. This will be the deciding factor for me wheather I buy it or not.

  • I have one. Very nice PDA ...BUT battery life SUX! I need to charge it at least once a day and when I use bluetooth ...twice a day! Anyone else have similar problems? Also I can't new numbers to the contacts without calling them first. E.g. Someone calls me from a new number, when the call is ended I want to save that number but it will only save if I dial the number, end the call immediately and then save it to contacts. Are there any windows updates available for this phone? How long is the battery supposed to last you? Thanks B

  • Apparently the Rogers has minimized memory to 90mb instead of it's original 128mb of ROM. As usual I wouldn't be surprised if Rogers had decided to minimize other aspects of the phone. On top of that it's $399 with a 3 year term including signing up for email and voice packages which range from $45-$100. A little over the top. If you decide to upgrade the phone to WM6, it has to be unlocked which of course it is not!!! That's more trouble ahead. It cost money to unlock it properly and WM6 has yet to become accessible to the public.

  • nice phone excellent keyboard battery life good for about three days (8 hrs per day bluetooth use/handsfree) but and big but- is that it keeps freezing wont let u come off standby only solution is to take out and replace battery and turn on again also keep getting vcalplug.exe execution error, comiing up on screen dont know if its related

  • Nice phone/pda, soon will have free updates to Windows Mobile 6 IF you buy the HTC Tytn (not branded). Also would like to note that the HTC Tytn does NOT have Handwriting recognition! I haven't found many errors in it, and the errors I do find in it, are because of windows mobile, so any mobile you buy that had windows mobile will have this. Still, Windows mobile is the one you need!

  • Can anyone please tell me how the tytn compares to the S620 ?

  • The TyTN all the flash.Whoopdee do. What a waste of time. Dropped calls, poor voice quality, battery life is crap, freezes way to often & just goes into flight mode on it's own, so missing calls without your knowledge. Should have stuck with my nokia until the E90 was launched. Wouildn't recommend this phone to anybody. Big mistake!!!!!

  • FYI: rogers TyTN can make video calls if flashed to WM6 rom

  • Can anyone tell me if there's a diff btwn the vodafone unlocked version of tytn and the original?

  • Thanks Tawd, There was also speculation on the 3G network. The 8525 apparently only works with Cingular 3G at 1900. I'm from Toronto Canada. The phones will be used here. Our Rogers provider hasn't quite mastered the video calling but is apparently suppose to come around some time soon. I was also offered the softbank x01ht as an alternate choice as it's cheaper. But I'm turned off by the foreign writing on the keyboard. Is there a difference in performance between this and the Tytn. Thank you for responding to my first question. Elli

  • To Elli, The differences are minor. You are essentially getting the exact same phone if you choose the Cingular 8525 over the TyTN - minus the front camera. Other than that, the 8525 also has a few tidbits of software/settings pre-loaded, where the TyTN requires that you'd have to set up a few things on your own (which is very simple). IMO, it's well worth the price savings if you can get the Cingular branded version, unless you're bent on using video call...

  • Quote "I'm debating btwn the Cingular8525 and the HTC TYTN. What is the difference between the two other than price? Tytn is going for $200 more. I'm hesitant about getting 8525 as I may be getting less than what I expect to find. Can anyone advise me????Thanks!" There is no difference, they are both one and the same

  • "This phone isn't really a mobile phone - if you can't plug it in to charge constantly then it runs flat in a few hours on standby!" Then there is something wrong with it. I get almost 2 days with average use.

  • This phone isn't really a mobile phone - if you can't plug it in to charge constantly then it runs flat in a few hours on standby!

  • I'm debating btwn the Cingular8525 and the HTC TYTN. What is the difference between the two other than price? Tytn is going for $200 more. I'm hesitant about getting 8525 as I may be getting less than what I expect to find. Can anyone advise me????Thanks!

  • Great phone, only wouold like to have a repeat for if I miss a phone call, not just look at the notification all the time, can a repeat be set?

  • I have the cingular 8525 which I believe is HTC's version of TyTN made for Cingular. After having it for a couple of weeks, the start menu starts flashing on and off and it closes programs I having running at the time, until it renders the touch screen unusable. Any idea on what this could be? HW/SW problem?? Anyone else have the same problem?

  • you can use VJ Lumos III for making the screen extra-bright. download it over at xda-developers.com

  • Can't read the phone outside in the sunlight. Very bad! Have to always look at it under a jacket.

  • I bought this phone 1 month ago. but the problem now is the battery. the battry drop and just can stand around 1 day. for example before i turned it off in the night the battery is 100% and when i wake up I saw my phone already 80%. I already change the battery with the other also same problem. Can somebody fix this problem??

  • the freezing is the same with all 'smart' phones. if you dont know how to use it it will freeze. READ THE MANUAL!

  • my old HP was 'freezing' all the time. TyTN not even once in many months.

  • Hi can anybody tell me about the freezing on the tytn htc. is it realy that bad?

  • just got the tytn! the keys located on the front does not work! anybody that can help please!

  • hey can anyone tell me,how do i use my phone internet connection to browse internet on pc.i hav the edge service active,n i use it on my phone but how can i use to browse net on my pc,please help guys. i m using the htc tytn

  • i have the x01ht and i must say, its a very sexy phone... the only thing i don't like is that in my unit the symbols are not where they're supposed to be. the "#" will be a "?" when you press it(something like that). is that the same with other x01ht owners out there like me!? otherwise, VERY HAPPY with my sexy phone... =)

  • hey can anyone tell me,how do i use my phone internet connection to browse internet on pc.i hav the edge service active,n i use it on my phone but how can i use to browse net on my pc,please help guys. i m using the htc tytn

  • Have an option to upgrade to the TyTN or wait for the E95 in to be released in S/Africa. Any opinions on user friendliness will be appreciated

  • Guys I bought this phone here in UK & want to use on 3 network, I have unlimited data plan but 3 does not give any support for non 3 phone which is ridiculous. This is almost (I lightly used previous modelsmy) first pocket pc phone, I am trying to set up internet settings on this phone for 3 network, I managed to get some info e.g. DNS, user name etc. But don't not how to apply, I'll very much appreciate any help & guidance in this. You can contact me at: [email protected] or 00447989707349. Thanks!

  • But that is still weird, because even in Europe the i-Mate costs more than the TyTN...

  • So if you have a problem with TyTN they will send it to Germany and this means 2 weeks, but if you buy an I-Mate and there is a problem with it, the service time is shorter because is in USA.

  • Because TyTN has the service in Germany, but Imate has it in USA. A asked the same question to a seller.

  • gents, checking tytn and jasjam prices... can u explain me why the diference in pricing. why is that the jasjam costs 200 dollars more than tytn ? thanks

  • to David: my bluetooth works perfectly. i've got this TyTN since last september and is great.

  • wow.wat a wicked phone!!!!

  • i bought htc tytn from 2 weeks and also plt 510 bluetooth, the problem is that the incomming calls can't accept it by the bluetooth and also no wireless stereo appears in the settings of the bluetooth

  • why bu ringtones when you can use your mp3s from your home pc or ipod as ringtones.... visit howardforums.com for tips tricks and much more...........

  • Is it possible to synchronize Lotus Notes 7 with the Tytn? If yes, is it a rather straight forward procedure or lots of pain staking try, try and try again? Thanks

  • i bought this product in France.after 3 weeks the phone starting to make or take calls on its own, Leaving in Asia (as it is forbidden now to send phone to France by Courier) i had to find friends to bring back to Europe to be mailed to repair center. 2 weeks after receiving it back same problems started again - it would appear issue would coming from touch screen. the concept is fantastic, the helpdesk (by phone and email) is very good, shame that the techonology doesn't follow. Product may not be ready for humid weither in anycase suggestion : guarantee not being really worlwide : don't buy the product in a world region where you don't live it will cost you lot of money and hassle

  • Sorry, I meant free software, please please please...

  • Hi I havebjust purchased my HTC Tytn and WOW! that is all I can say. Can anybody give me a website I can go to download free ringtones?

  • All upgrades and Info at www.xda-developers.com

  • you can check on this site, my X01HT works perfectly after the upgrade. Just follow the instruction carefully.

  • hi,i want to upgrade the rom on my htc tytn.is wm6 rom upgrade for tytn available??? where can i download it from??? any help regaring thr rom upgrade will be apreciated, thanks in advance guys!

  • the best one is the cheapest in price because basically they are the same. especially when you upgrade it to WM6.

  • What version is the best, the softbank one, the regular htc one, the vodafone one, or the cingular one? any diffs?

  • Those are some bad comments from Soumy Nona, and for those who didn't notice this is anonymous spelled backwards. I personnaly like this phone over the E90 like him or her though.

  • hello Patrick, Just click the phone symbol in green color, then phone keypad appears on the screen. if you upgrade and learn how to work on this piece, definitely you will appreciate this unit. refer for xda developer forum, you will know a lot of things (good and bad points), but I believe the good points of this device are indeed much more than the opposite. There is no such thing as perfect thing. Just some are much better like the TyTn.

  • my service provider proposes i upgrade to this phone. the features look good, but excuse my ignorance, there is no keybord to dial out? how does this work?

  • I really anticipate the arrival of this beautiful E90, but at this moment I will enjoy my HTC TyTn because it is the one available. Definitely, I will buy also E90, but my TyTn is superb!!!

  • The E90 will be released shortly and is ways better then this !

  • hello reda zeid "Hi guys, The TyTN is 3G enabled. But, does anyone know if the TyTN work with 3G under GSM network? because they mention here that it's HSDPA, what is that mean? Is it mean that I can't work with 3G under GSM network, or what? Please anyone can help me in that. Here is the answer. TyTn works definitely with GSM network if your location has no 3G network or if both exists, you may select to choose either automatically or manually (3G or GSM).HSDPA works only on 3G network which allows a much faster download speed to you mobile (1.2Mbps -3.6Mbps). HSDPA depends on the network, not all 3G networks provide this at this time.

  • Hi Vince! It is really good to know upgrade to WM6 LSVW is working with TyTn. Thanks for this info, I will try to do the same with my unit.

  • I've got the cingular 8525,i've had it for a month now for the first 2 weeks i loved it,but now i can't stand it,it has to many bugs,it freezes up all the time it sticks, web pages load half way then stick,i'm always having to soft reset it.I'm going to get the Eten G500+,it doesn't have 3G or WiFi,but the 3G doesn't work in the area where i live and i don't use WiFi so no big loss. It's to bad because i really love the 8525,it just has too many bugs.

  • pingu, the tytn does not have an FM radio. about the bluetooth stereo, the quality is really poor if you dont tweak it. I use the sony ericsson HBH-ds970 bt headset, and i downloaded HTweakerC program and tweaked the A2DP music settings to excellent, and then downloaded sleuth's a2dp fix patch (which prevents skipping) and now its all fixed. You can read all these in the thread and download the programs at xda-developers.com

  • Does anyone know whether TyTn has FM Radio?? Does anyone tried to use the bluetooth stereo headset to listen MP3/Radio?? How's the quality?? thank you!!

  • Hi Ulrik, yeah its not too bad, i still enjoy the music from my tytn, i recently upgraded to Windows Mobile 6 LSVW version and its working fine. i got it from xda-developers.com . the sound quality from the bluetooth headset is really excellent, and i can still use my old apps from WM5. so far so good!

  • Hi Vince! I think you are right when you move from P990i to HTC TyTn. It is a good buy. I had also the P990i before and then change to HTC TyTn. Of course, P990i is not bad anyway, but using QWERTY keyboard, the TyTn is more convenient. Also, I notice that TyTn works faster than P990i.

  • One of the best smartphone in 2006-2007. I use it with an GPS receiver and Tomtom 6. 2gb memory and the keyboard are great, but transflash card isn't as speed as I though in PC downloads process. A built in GPS receiver with FM tuner would have been prefered but nothing is perfect... If you need an sweet and fully smartphone get this.

  • This is the most useless phone I have ever used. Cannot see the screen (green) clearly if you use it outdoors. The screen dialling is much slower than than if you use a Nokia. To put in an appoinntment is so much slower than my Nokia 9300i. I have stopped using it after 6 weeks and gone back to my Nokia 9300i. I definitely do not recommend this phone.

  • i have htc tytn but i am having problem in it when i bought the phone it was in spanish language i have tried to change the language and uploaded the wrong radio version so now it is stuck in windows and it shows no gsm and not connecting with computer so pls i need help if anyone can solve my problem

  • Hi, If the phone comes in with it's original HTC case and you insert TYTN with the screen facing out, yes, you will be able to insert USB earphones. If you insert the phone with the screen facing to your body(the way I prefer), than you won't be able to insert earphones.

  • Hello guys, Im a new HTC TyTN user and I will be receiving my phone on Mar 19. I am both excited and quite nervous because this is my first ever Windows Mobile phone, and non-Nokia phone. I bought this device because i need a pocket pc to install medical applications into, as im in nursing school right now. What I have right now is the Sony Ericsson P990i, and i am using it mainly as my ipod with 4GB memory stick and the bluetooth stereo headset. And also as my main digital camera. Personally, I am multimedia person, not a business person, and i want something that will entertain me. I know i am making a HUGE compromise with my switch from P990i to the TyTN. All i hope is that the TyTN doesnt fall short in the multimedia part and the camera part. I have read tons of reviews of the TyTN and i know that the camera is of reasonable quality, i can live with this. But my main concern is the poor quality of the TyTN with bluetooth stereo headsets. There seems to be a problem with the BT stack of Microsoft. So my only hope is to use the included headset to listen to music, which bring me to my other concern about the HTC leather case: is there a hole or space on the side for the usb headset, so while the phone is in the case, the headset is still connected? Please really hope so... or else ill end up buying one on ebay. Any tips for me the new kid on the block? Id appreciate it.

  • I just placed my order for the HTC TyTN and ill receive it by mar 19. I have a question about the included leather case, does it have a hole or space on the side so you can insert the usb headset while the phone is in the case? Im concerned about this as ill be using this phone as my ipod and i want to have the phone in the case while the headset is connected. is this possible?

  • I just receive the TyTN yesterday, it looks great. How can I change to windows mobile 5.0 in spanish? Where can I buy the stereo headset adaptor for use my Bose headphones?

  • Hi guys, The TyTN is 3G enabled. But, does anyone know if the TyTN work with 3G under GSM network? because they mention here that it's HSDPA, what is that mean? Is it mean that I can't work with 3G under GSM network, or what? Please anyone can help me in that. It works with 3G or GPRS (GSM 2nd tier data network). HSDPA is a much faster version of 3G data but is only available in UK on Vodafone. Orange plan to launch this year. If you are not UK based you will have to check wiht your network operator.

  • Hey. I have Windows Voice Command 1.6 on this phone and was wondering if there is any way to get the Bluetooth headset to activate it and for the commands to be heard through the bluetooth headset rather than the handset. Please advise if amending the registry path will work or if there is a simpler way by buying a better bluetooth headset.

  • Anyone here using this phone with a intergrated BMW car kit? I have noticed that some phone P910i does not work, but the P990 does. Just wondering if this one will, I would like to settle for it. But don't want it if it does not work with my car kit. Thanks.

  • Hi, I have had this phone for a week now! quite impressed... However I had to get it replaced yesterday due to a faulty antenna? I work in a telephone exchange directly underneath a GSM transmitter, how comes I've only got one bar??? Anyway got it swapped and signal strength improved! I do recommend that you all download the opera mobile browser, 5 times faster at least... P.S. Are any difference in spec between the T-Mobile Vario II and The HTC TyTn ??? I read loads of reviews but can only see a different battery capacity 1300mAh as apposed to 1350mAh supplied with all the other variants... Thanks in advance.. LC

  • has anyone installed TOMTOM 6 and is it compatible? Installed and using. Works fine.

Ask service provider if they can help. 2-- s ur Internet connection fast enough for vid clips? 3-- Always do a soft(warm) re-set it is better for the device. It will have the same effect as if u took the battery out only it will not strain ur device as much. hope this helps ^BUG^

  • I have this phone for about 2 months. It is very useful for my job, I travel a lot to Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, Pacific Islands, most of all compatible with North AMerican 3G operators where I always travel too. Superb PDA/phone..

  • I'm confused what to have.... Which is better in terms of web browsing and downloading files from the net? Asus P525? HTC TyTN? SE P9901? Dopod D810? Would appreciate your inputs. I'm planning to buy my first PPC, and I don't wanna made a mistake in choosing what to buy. Thanks!

  • I was going to get the Tytn but settled on the Cingular 8525. Love the phone and design..i just wish it had the same button layouts on the Tytn. The good thing is I found a site that supports both phones, if you want free software for them: www.8525software.com

  • this is a cool divice, lke you have a small PC in your pocket and it works perfect! for international users you can register at www.myqtek.com and get the latest ROM update for free!

  • has anyone installed TOMTOM 6 and is it compatible?

  • Im really lucky i have choosen this machine.it has all what i(we all) need.

  • comment: it`s a nice phone with a lot of features. BUT is is not good: sd mini (too less storage capacity), only one slot, no gps, no compatibility to car kits, not userfriendly in a lot of fields, etc, etc, etc. summary: maybe at the moment a nice pda, but lots to improve.

  • Very nice device. I've installed TomTom Navigator on it and it runs very good with GPS receiver, pretty fast. Overall TYTN deserves 9 out of 10

  • Hey, does anybody know if this device has a headphone jack? If not, any converters to do it?

  • Super device. It is sturdy, runs quick and fulfills all of what I need. Better than whatever blackberry, samsung, O2 and the others have to offer. Only thing they can improve on is its weight. Still slightly heavier than what I want in a perfect device. Nonetheless, looks great and works super.

  • Wow!!! What a phone! I have had it for a week now and am amazed. I did install a few small gadget options to close programs etc. but have tested most of the apps and am impressed overall. as per many others on this forum, i am a bit dissappointed with the screen in daylight, but the phone makes up for it many times over even the Skype mobile works well on the standard 3G and WiFi. if you can get one, they are worth it.

  • Hi all, Sunny here. well i'm willing to buy this phone. I've really gone head over hill for this phone (HTC TyTN). [email protected] I want to know if the phone is worth the cost and I would be pleased if some one who is using the same phone could e-mail me at [email protected]. I don't mind buying a used one from a person using the handset at the moment(HTC TyTN). thx Sunny

  • i got this phone and was very dissapointed. The keyboard didnt work properly and the battery kept turning itself off at least once in 24 hours. The icons at the top kept flashing and was hard to perform operations as had to close the icons all the time. A bit of dissapointment, had to give it back to the shop :( :(

  • the screen does have landscape and portrait my friend. it will go into landscape automatically when the keyboard is open. very user friendly phone.

  • Correction: 520Mhz, not Hz,funny!

  • I use it for 5 months and I have to admit that it is the perfect device at the moment. But when it's going to come a device with at least 520Hz processor,a 16m colors screen and 3mpixels camera?

  • Hi Rigel, So Sorry for the incovenience, This Webpage is not too updated about PDA. U can check dopod website if u like so. Cause my GF 838 'pro' has 3G and HSDPA UMTS whatsoever... But thanks for noticing. TQ

  • Hongo, To date, there is no Dopod version of this. The Dopod 838 is the HTC Wizard (Prodigy). Click on the "All HTC Models" link on the specs page to see the corresponding models from each of the other brands.

  • Yes Berrie, the TyTN rotate automatically the display orientation when you use the keyboard.

  • My Girl Friend, (NFL) using dopod 838 pro which seem to be the same model with this phone. What seem to be the problem is the camera. Its soo defect... I cant hardly capture picture in dark. The flash is useless, its a toy, Doesnt worth the mobile price, (Its RM 3K something in here(around 800 us dollar)) Sometime the rotation of display mobile is whacko. Ha ha ha ... Other than that, is perfect. Me? Im using Dopod D810 (HTC P3600)

  • Can any user of the TyTN plse advise me if the display (screen) rotates 90 degrees when the qwerty keyboard is being used, such as the Nokia E70?

  • This is a very user friendly phone..

  • hi can anybody(or the people at gsmarena) post someinfo regarding o2 XDA flame or the new HTC PDAs like the Panda or the elf(or any other ones having having 3.5 inch screen)thanks!

My travels take me all over USA, Europe and Asia....this is the best device in the market..you will love it!

  • hi can anybody(or the people at gsmarena) post someinfo regarding o2 XDA flame or the new HTC PDAs like the Panda or the elf(or any other ones having having 3.5 inch screen)thanks!

  • Hi I need a business PDA phone with a sliding QWERTY key pad, 3G and other business features.I am intending to buy the HTC TyTn. I am not sure whether i am making the right choice. I need expert advice. Thanks Elmo

  • This phone is great except the QWERTY keyboard. some of the words does not appear correctly on the screen after I type it. For instance, when I type '!', '?" appears on the screen. can anybody help me fixing this error

  • Can't see the screen in the sunlight. I find that the camera comes on all the time when using the phone.(button should be positioned else where.

  • hi all, Windows Mobile 6 is out soon. Just wondering are we able to upgrade TYTN's OS from WM5 to WM6?

  • I'm waiting anxiously for my phone to arrive. One thing concerns and that is that this phone uses windows. Is there an AV available for this phone. I would hate for it to get a virus and then I'm really buggered. Do any of you have an anti-virus package installed or have you had any viruses?

  • please could someone tell me how i can view videos while im on the net for example on youtube with this phone, ive tried downloading pda flash but i still cant play video,oh and also i cant view attachments on my hotmail, thanks,,mark

  • I got this phone the day it released in the US (November 16th 2006). Ilove every last thing about it. Particularly the loud volume both in calls and media player, the 3G speeds and The camera is amazing....

  • Got it in orange m3100 version and disappointed. Screen definetely much more dull and less crisp than my old htc wizard.new keyboard feel cheap and more difficult to use as well. coming to point that i consider use it again instead. in real life speed of processor feel the same. screen still takes time to redraw and 3g speed do not feel that faster than old gprs.the only improvement and by large is rebooting time and supposedly camera. But who gonna use it to take pictures anyway? Paper hero.

  • Yes Bro, This phone support 2GB micro tiny weenie winy sd card. The problem is its thick a bit. So careful bro.

  • Gorgeous piece of device! I just got it. Deserves at least 9/10 rating.

  • ... oh and battery life isnt amazing on high usag but its hardly suprising!

  • This is a great device if s/n HT64... or higher, but anything less has bugs on it... which is why i'm on my 3rd one, and giving it one last chance. Most brand new one are at least HT64... so it should be fine, and enjoy! Its packed full of goodness!

  • fantastic pda, fast thinking, also talk time is long li polymer battery. windows mobile supports most files such as mpeg cif sis ect. great for time pass!

  • Does this phone support 2GB micro SD or greater ?....

  • Hi guys, I ve just my TYTN recently and well,I want to know if the phone is realible, fast to think and also the internet is it fast, I will be downloading my orders from the phone can I print them on colour, tell me more anyone.

  • Hi everyone!Des anybody know if its ok that my HTC TyTn battery hold only like for 4Hours(Not Talking)??should I change the bettery? thank you for answer

  • had the TyTN for 6 weeks. Too many connection problems. Phone freezes 3 times per day. Super glitchy. I am selling it to someone with more patience than myself....

  • hi can anyone tell me .. where can I find a software for my htc tytn to record calls (call recorder)

  • Hi titan, you have only to paste these files to "My docyments" in phone memory. This applies also to music files for use them for ringtones. I'm very content with the device until now. But this after I've changed two of them for one month. Unfortunately there are still some problems like windows bugs, problems with alignment and ...of course "freezing"; you need a restart then. For minimizing these problems I reccomend three software programs for pockest pc ( I bought them from www.handango.com) 1. Spb Pocket plus, 2.SKTools and 3.Pocket Mechanic. After I use them the operation is improoved significally. I don't intend to make advertisement; I simply use them and i'm very content of their work.

  • I have the Dopod 838pro version for about 1 month. This is a great phone, too bad Skype can only run on ROM and not on the SD Micro as it keeps on hanging. I am using iTech R35 wireless headset too, great for listening to MP3 or Internet radio

  • hi jack where do you live? In HongKong you can go to mongkok any shop and get it done

  • Had TyTN for 8 weeks, swopped it for Sony Ericsson P990i. Had endless problems with connection or phoning out, freeszing all the time. Stay away. Repaired twice in 8 weeks

  • Does anyone know if microsoft has released firmware for A2DP Bluetooth for Windows Mobile? If anyone has any info please email me at [email protected]

  • I've had this phone for more than 6 months now. I'll list only the annoying stuff: Like any windows , this one stuck at the most inconvinient moment and reset is required. I had to hard reset it once when i was abroad. So for the rest of my stay i had no contacts. Screen alignment problems. For example if you have the numbers 123456 written next to each other and hit for example 4 the phone will mark 5. I mean it reads the clicks about 2mm to the right. I'm carrying it in its case on my belt so it's in horizontal position. When i pull it out and push to power button so that is comes out of sleep mode to screen is almost always in horizontal mode as if you have pulled out the keyboard - i don't know why that happens. It takes a few seconds to set back to normal vertical mode. VERY annoying when someone is calling you becouse you can't pick up until it is set to vertical. Sometimes it takes so long that people actually hang up :) Speaker is by far not the loudest i've heard. Some times in a bit noisier place it's hard to hear the person you talk to. If you put all that aside , it's a great device. Great PDA. Good phone. If you are looking for PDA-Phone this is good choice. If you are looking for Phone-PDA then probably SE P-series or Nokia N-series will offer better solutions.

  • Great piece of hardware. I do wish that they make it lighter and thinner but otherwise a superb device. There are a lot of copycats out there (Eten specifically...) but HTC is still the God!

  • just received this one yesterday. m really impresed ,its got everything, good features and also very compact. god job HTC.

  • hi, ive been using the se p910 for 2 years now, excellant phone and i now want to upgrade. looking for a pda with gps navigation and video-callling. can anyone please advise

  • Hi there, I just got the phone, awesome, love the extras in the box,the connection speed is really good, but one thing,I just want to know if theres any way i can get the vodaphone live feature on it?It runs on windows mobile,so in theory it is possible to install???i really wanna watch the tv on this thing!

  • hello i have read that the documents make by windows vista(office 2007) aren't compatible whit windows mobile 5... so is the htc tytn capable too like change the firmware or something loke that to windows mobile 6(cross bow)????????????????????

  • Hi everyone. Can you please let me know about the phone capabilities of the TyTn? Is the sound good and is it easy and reliable as a phone? I know it's a great PDA but I wonder, as a phone.... Thanks

  • I have this set in Asia version whihc is Dopod 838 pro. It is a great phone.... my fisrt phone which satisfied me in everything. Clear camera (standard of ppc), loud speaker, fast wlan and superior cpu... But 1 tthing is really bad which is size of it

  • Hey guys. I've purchased my Tytn a month ago and it's a great device. I have only one problem....for me it's the main thing. The Wlan is perfect, the speed and everything. The only thing is I cannot check my yahoo mails. When I sign in and try to check my mail, I see a blank page and I don't know why. And in here there is no HTC dealers. Can anybody help me please? If I have a yahoo account, what I should write in Outgoing mail, incoming mail and Domain...Thank you all. The best regards to all of you

  • I have had the TyTN for some months now and love it. However, today it stopped picking up a mobile network. It simply searches, but cannot find any. I switch SIM cards all the time, as I travel frequently, but none of my cards work now. Perhaps I have worn out the SIM card reader? Has anyone experienced a similar problem? I tried a hard reset, but it still does not work :(

  • Hello guys, just want to know b4 my purchase of this wonderful unit, how long does the battery last using "Full Blast" wifi and all? tnx for the info in advance

  • I need help, can any body tell me why is HTC heavier than i-mate jasjam which is completely the same. and is it possible to change the tone of message alert? What about jasjam? I want to buy one, but afraid of having the keybord lose contact with screen. my e-mail is [email protected]

  • Fabulous device! Sure, it has its inadequacies but which device doesn't?!! Still the best PDA phone I ever had!

  • To Jan: Your problem is not unique. This occurs in most HTC manufactured sliders (including I-Mate's Jasjam). A Taiwan-based website provided very detailed information about this failure and the root cause is a faulty ribbon connector between the screen (the slider) and the body. Apparently, after constant use, the connector ribbon gets pinched and causes all kinds of problems, including stylus entry failure. Welcome to the disatisfied-in-HTC club. My Jasjam (I-Mate) I recently purchased is still in warranty repair for similar reasons.

  • I have HTC Tytn and have problem to connect with 3G and GPRS..appears message : for uknown reason could not connect try again..Is everybody know anything about this problem and how to fix it? Thanks

  • To Jan. I had the same problem and also bad wifi receiver. I turned it back and my new one works perfectly. If you can't give it back you can do the following:once you keep it in your hands press for a few seconds with your fingers the front panel, above the buttons "start" and "ok". The problem is getting fixed for a while, but it appears again after some use.It is quite annoying.

  • Had problems with k-jam touch screen. Alignment whent out and the screen would not respond to the stylus. Purchased TyTn, wonder if it will have same problem. Can anyone respond to the problem I had with k-jam

  • What program to use if you want to play videopodcast (mpeg4/h.264) on the TyTN have tried TCPMP and can make it work properly

  • Is the HTC TyTN compatible with MAC OS X? Or Windows only? Someone please inform me. Thank You

  • simply great.... I changed more than 15 phones this year, this phone is the best. great when it comes to surfing. lag-free processor... get this phone

  • Why is the Dopod version of this TyTN, the Dopod 838 Pro so much more expensive ($850-$1,000)?

  • Why don't u look around on the internet? Plenty of sites with reviews and pictures. It is amazing how people are being lazy. ;)

  • I just wanted to know if you are able to type text using the QWERTY keyboard with only 1 hand??? I really like everything about this device but I sometimes hate the hassle of having to tap the screen or slide the keypad & have to use 2 hands just to type 1 word (I'm always on the go). I know you might tell me to not get a SLIDE phone/pda but I have to have all the specs of this device, plus I like the design & all. One other thing; can anybody post a picture taken from this pda? Also, how's the quality of the LCD? I dont know if I like the 65K colors...is the LCD sharp?! PLEASE I need a response from a user of this PDA.

  • hello, waht's the diference between the browser of tytn(WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML) and the asus p535(WAP 1.2.1/2.0) ????????????????????????' ????????????????????????' ????????????????????????'

  • Question for people who have this phone in the USA as a Cingular 8525. Can this phone be used as a DUN modem via blue tooth to connect to the Internet wiresly on laptops or this fuction is blocked??? Please e-mail me if possible. Thanx.

  • Are you kidding....? The wireless headphones and GPS depend on the bluetooth technology to connect... if you switch the bluetooth of, well, no more connection...?

  • Why is the Dopod version of this TyTN, the Dopod 838 Pro so much more expensive ($850-$1,000)?

  • Hey guys, does anyone have the same problem that the wireless headphone and wireless gps receiver stops working after switch off bluetooth. Oh well, simply amazing really how this huge 1350 mAh battery life can happily last longer on those energetic 3g connections than on that lazy old 2g dog. Pity the poor saps stuck on cheap old 2g technology in their neighbourhoods and who get suckered into buying larger batteries.

  • tips ; just switch off the bluetooth conenction

  • soft bank offers update of software. I suggest not to do so for those who got the unlocked phone and using other sim card.

  • Hey Guys, got this phone for a week now. Simply amazing ... love all the features and speed. not too happy with the battery life though. Anyone having the same problem? Can you recommend a power saving option? Thanks

  • I got one of unlocked softbank version in HK. The best phone that Taiwan has made.

  • Hey there!I have a HP 6915 but using internet trough mobile network its not that fast because Hp6915 has only EdGE so Im thinking of changing my HP6915 for a new one HTC TyTN.SO I would like to ask If anyone knows if I coild use skype on this thing and how fast would it be,I mean If i would be able to talk with someone by using skype? • Many Thanks for the answer of the TCPMP version, but what about the mp3's for sms. I can't set them. Only MIDI is good for that.

  • The tcpmp version to use with the TyTN is .66 You need to set your audio to low quality and video to GDI and everything should work correctly .

  • The tcpmp version to use with the TyTN is .66 You need to set your audio to low quality and video to GDI and everything should work correctly .

  • To Mandy: You say you have a Nokia 9110i, I have the Nokia 9300 and i was wondering what do you use to back up your SMS messages. you can reply at [email protected] or just reply here too

  • No radio. Only on internet.

  • to Mandy As for the problems of Hermes, they're of every Pocket PC phone. You cant backup SMS out of the box. It's true but with a small 3rd party piece of software then backup would be a piece of cake. Visit forum.xda-developers.com and do some searching before make any decision. Goodluck.

  • Have used it since begining of September 2006. A very good device. Harish Malani, Bombay

  • Radio FM?

  • I have two questions: How can I set mp3's as a ringtone for SMS? Can anybody tell me what version of TCPMP can I use to see movies. I'm using 0.81 and it's not working properly. Please respond me here or [email protected] THX !

  • Lots of questions for TyTN users here (and things to think about for other considering this phone...) (non-techie readers please skip to the next post) ;o) I have been told by the Vodafone (UK) sales reps that their v1605 ( ) is the same as the HTC TyTN (does anyone know for sure is this so?) From what I've seen on the web the phone is: Orange M3100, T-Mobile MDA Vario II and the Vodafone Qtek HTC v1605 I'm trying to find out whether I want to choose the v1605 as my next upgrade (they have said I can have it for 40 with a 12 month contract renewal) to replace my trusty Nokia 9110i which has served me faithfully since 2000. (although I killed one by dropping it on the ground too many times in 4 years but got a second-hand one off my mate in 2004 and kept going with the same model) I have been excited about the i-mate JASJAR/Qtek 9000/O2 XDA EXEC/Vodafone v1640 since it first came out, but I already get told my phone is a brick by everyone who sees my Communicator, what they heck would I face with the mini-laptop v1640!? The TyTN screen is only 1/4 the resolution of the v1640, the keyboard is a bit pokey for my large hands, and the battery life is not as good (according to GSM Arena specs) but at least it's almost "normal" size... I don't know anybody who owns a TyTN, but I have a mate with the i-mate K-JAM (which is the same as the Qtek 9100 according to GSMArena's page) which he has had for around a year, and I asked him what he thought of it to see if that would help me make up my mind. He said he's 80% happy with it on Windows, but knows I'm a Linux user and warned it may lack compatibility on "other OSes" :o) (He's a dyed in the wool Windows professional and doesn't touch Linux himself so he's being honest here) About his phone he said... "The stylus holster clip wears out so the stylus falls out randomly. The Hardware keyboard is slower than the virtual keyboard and the stylus" (I wonder if the 400MHz Samsung CPU might make that not such a problem for the TyTN?) He also said "Synchronising is Windows centric, limited and wimpy. Can't backup non-files, e.g. SMS messages or the registry." ...are there any TyTN owners/users out there who can comment on this one? the TyTN is from the same manufacturers and runs the same operating system and came out less than a year later, have they improved on the software for this phone??? If I can't back up SMS messages that could be a killer for me - I am a hoarder by nature and also have contact addiction... I have SMS messages going back 6 years on the SD card in my Communicator - if I had to flush all my messages every few weeks on a phone and wasn't able to back them up then that would be useless for me! (reminds me of Nokia 8210 in the old days which relied on the SIM to store the texts!) He also said "No encryption out of the box, and little free software" - is this the case with the TyTN as well? I have had all sorts of software for my communicator over the years, a telnet app (wish it was SSH!), different convertors, calculators, translation tools etc (I was even able to write my own English-Arabic dictionary for it when I was learning Arabic by tweaking a German dictionary apps and loading a new text file word list!) I know I'm really after something like the OpenMoko (100% proper Linux so I can customise EVERYTHING on it and write or download any app I need or can think of) with a keyboard, and in a sensible size, but in the mean time, would I be better getting the TyTN (as a v1605), an HP iPAQ hw6910 or a v1640 (Vodafone's JASJAR)? and for what reasons? Many thanks, John

  • good. I have one

  • Spoke to o2 uk today and they say the XDA Zinc and Graphite will be the next releases on 15th Jan 2007.

  • me again. 4 days from last friday evening and i can share u lot of good things about the SPV M 3100 = HTC TyTN. Skype - perfectly. on Wi-fi at home and at the office. A small innocent phone on the table that is keeping u in touch with friends also in the evening if u want of course.. Yahoo Mess - same, keybourd is helpfull and fast. Also EDGE or GPRS are almost for free in case of messages on yahoo. I GO - GPS at a touch. Takes a little bit to get used with it and bluetooth is possible only with one device. PDA functions are better by far than the ones imitated by a gsm normal phone. Microsoft Outlook is finally useful for something and your contacts/agenda will always be in good order. Still have to check how e-mail is going on and Microsoft office. Lap top is still my 1st option for these. Still...

  • can GSMArena do a review of this phone. you guyz do them so good, that i just want to see a review of this phone since im insterested in some detailed info about it.

  • For those having O2 Trion, HTC TyTn etc,in Europe & USA, have you try similar product, the Dopod 838 Pro has excellent feedbacks from users that surprisingly accounted no unusual problems.

  • how much is this nd 1 qs... if ders a 3g n a fone does dat mean i can chat n msn... wot bout yahoo messenger??

  • i have SPV M3100 - same as TyTN, better looking. is a fabulous help ! perfect battery, outstanding speed if u are not asking 10 things simultaneously. why the normal phones still exist. because till last friday morning i was a bastard as most of us, using a f...ing nokia (that functioned from bad to worse). SMART phone / pda for smart people.

  • I have been testing this device for one week now. I purchased the later version with serial # HT640xxx so have not had any issues with the screen, ketboard, etc. The device actually works very well. Having used various BB's, a Palm Treo 650 with BB Connect and most recently a Nokia E61 with BB Connect, I was skeptical about the MS Pocket PC platform, but have been pleasantly surprised. I set up the device very quickly and had it connected to my company's exchange server in a matter of minutes. The Direct Push email synching makes it work just like a BB. The form factor is great with the slide out full keyboard. The only negative I have idenified so far is the screen is very hard to see in sunlight. Also, the battery life could be better. Overall, I am happy with the HTC TyTN and would recommend it to others.

  • How's the battery life with this thing? The HTC S620 Excalibur can last 1.5 days full blast.

  • Quick qst for those who own this phone, does it have the pusht to talk(ptt) feature? I've been reading it has but also read it didn't. Thanks in advance!!

  • Confirming the Keyboard lights problem, having the same on my TyTN. Anyone now a solution? Thx in advance Had it a week. Keyboard lights do not work even if auto sensor on.Switch on when synchronising then when keyboard closed, does not come on again. Anyone else with this problem.? Apart from that, great phone.

  • Instead an opinion I need someone solves a doubt: is quality of video recording as good as N90? Or which of these gadgets has the best video recorder? Im gonna buy the best. Please reply.

  • Had it a week. Changed it 2x.Same problem.Keyboard lights do not work even if auto sensor on.Switch on when synchronising then when keyboard closed, does not come on again. Anyone else with this problem.? Apart from that, great phone.

  • Ordered one. Is it compatable with Lotus notes type e-mail?

  • got this on orange with decent coverage, the only real problem i found was when its in your pocket it kept opening!and when using bluetooth to share film files you have to convert 1st,unless its another windows device youll be struggling!using it for t'internet was superb with full on e-bay,google internet browsing!

  • Confirm previous post. With 2 different Vodafone IT Sim no chanche to receive the SMS message of call left into voice mailbox. Vodafone was until now not able to fix the problem. Of course both SIM had no problems in other Phones and the defect was not showing using a TIM card.

  • Hopeless signal coverage. Drops 90% of my calls on Vodaphone. I callled vodaphone and they said they do not support the phone. Giving it back this weekend.

  • Had 2 of these from vodaphone Very nice looking phone and feels good as well Both Phones were faulty Front bessal fell off one Pen would not go back in unit on second Also note i did a test the Camera is not as good as the Qtek S200 Suprised! Oh and were has Messenger Gone!

  • Does anyone know how to get the edge funtion to work on this phone. I am a t-mobile customer in the US and no one over there seems to know how to get it to work. Please if someone can help me.

  • To MS:You can simply press once the button "VOICE COMMAND" on the left of the device, under the "OK" button and... voila! If you press and hold the same button you can record a voice note.

  • chris, why would you want to overclock this phone? this device has allready bad battery-life, and you want to get it worse?

  • anyone from the u.s with this phone.i wanna test out the 3g video call on this.i know if ur phone gets a U means ur on 3g speed. a G means gprs or edge if ur in that area.i'm in nyc . cingular is making this there 8525 phone next year.

  • I just got the phone after reading these reviews. There are a couple of features that are absolutely RETARDED!! For example: using voice speed dial you have to (per pg 185 of manual) tap start->programs->voice speed dial. The wait for a beep to say the name of person you want to call. You call that speed dial?? I expected at least like my cheap motorola..press one button and say John Doe..and it automatically dials John Doe. Second - I don't like the way Contacts are stored. They are not sorted by categories like my palm did. Sure you can assign a category to your contacts but cannot access by category....USELESS!

  • The design of TyTn, I think, is not as user friendly as HTC S60. But, I suppose the specs. for the 2 phones are not the same either. I was plesantly pleased that I was able to use Skype to call my son in the U.S. (few days ago while I was having my breakfast in a hotel in Shanghai where the WIFI signal was quite good). The reception was very good.

  • hello, i receive my new tytn a week ago, and it works great. someone knows how could i overlock the samsung processor or where i could get some freeware for overlocking the tytn? thanks

  • I think this is not very good. But my brother also wants to buy this phone.Do you know what battery that this phone use?

  • I have experience in phones but after 2 days of trials I was not abel to get it to receive the SMS info of a call sent to the vocal mail box. The voice mail box works perfect and the SMS also but no chance to be informed that I have a call diverted to the voice mail box... any suggestion ? I use Vodafon IT

  • Is this the same as the Qtek and does it have the same connection?

  • This is a great phone, but it has problems. - Hard to see in the sunlight. - Difficult to use when driving because of the restrictive nature of WIndows. Symbian is way easier and user-friendly. - Touch-screen and stylus malfunctioned and I am sending to Tech Support. Never had this problem before. - The phone is temperamental. - When the phone is working, it can be phenomenal. _ Phone is temperamental, like an Italian sports car, that needs a lot of TLC and is high-maintenance

  • I use this phone 2 weeks and I have to admit that it is the perfect device. But I think I face a problem: the wifi signal is weak and unstable comparing my laptop. I used TyTN's wlan in my office, home and outdoors. The same problem everywhere. Does anybody has the same problem? Or my device doesn't work properly?

  • I recommend the imate JASJAM for Australian residents, through Telstra. Can get a really good deal on Get Connected Business plan.

  • Got this phone DOPOD 838 Pro and have used it for 2 weeks now. My roomie on the other hand, chose the P990i. Here are our comparisons: a) DOPOD wins in keypad. Duh... b) P990i camera much better than DOPOD even though both are 2MP but i think the image software and lens sizes make a difference. c) Battery life - DOPOD Wins. d) Weight - P990i wins. e) Symbian vs MS Mobile - I think Symbian is still far more stable and more 3rd party software. So we both think P990i wins. f) Build quality - DOPOD wins FOR SURE. No flimsy flip. g) Rolling wheel - We both feel the P990i's rolling wheel quality is slightly better here. it is sensitive enough but feels more sturdy. h) Wifi - DOPOD speed slightly faster. My web pages loaded faster than his. Not by much but still, speed wins. i) In a street fight - DOPOD wins. You can use it to pound away at your foe. Then take photos after you are done. The P990i would probably have the flip broken off...ha ha. j) As a mobile phone - P990i wins. It is quite a pain, i must admit to use simple phone call functions on the MS Window mobile unit. On average, you need to trigger 2 -3 actions before you can make a simple call. All in all, for US$60 more, i think the dopod is more value for money. My roomie thinks the same too but he is happy with the P990i cause he beats me to it when calling the girls.

  • how far can i go with its microsd?

  • Looking at the Dopod 838Pro but I live in Australia and there appears to be a hold up on delivery. Just got told the new devlivery date of mid Nov, from the original early Oct. Major bummer as I have already ordered the Dopod (but can cancel). Need some advice on a couple of things. First the camera, the Dopod gets great reviews but there seems to be some dodgy comments about the JasJams camera. Are they the same!? Second, the Dopod advertises 11g but the JasJam says 11b/g with reviews saying the JasJams real speed is 11b!? Is this the same for both or does the Dopod have real 11g? Thanks and by the way the JasJam is available in Australia. Good to see we are not totally left behind.

  • identical specs dont mean the phone is made EXACTLY the same. A different shell/encasing could have been used or the material used for the shell. Either way, I hope to upgrade from my MDA when I have enough money.

  • dear hassan, the weight difference is due to the fact that 02 and i-mate removed the self destruct mechanism ;-)

  • I would like to know if it has a Writer recognition similar to Palm Grafiti or at least if you can install it. Thanks everibody

  • O2, I-mate both have the same phone, theirs weigh in @ 160 grams, how come HTC's wieghs in @ 176 grams? I've compared all their specs, th all seem identical, so how can one account for the mass difference? This is really mind bogling.

  • the best phone i ever seen, easy to use, powerfull, very good design, all-inclusive, Bluetooth, IRDA, WIFI, EDGE, 3G, ETC.

  • The best pocket pc phone ever!!! I'm in love with it;I bought it two days ago. I've had before that a qtek2020i and a qtek9100.

  • Can I use a 1500mAH battery instead of the 1350 that comes w/ the phone. I ordered what I thought was the 1350 and received the 1500 battery.

  • Hello! I have a problem with my HTC TyTN. I'v just got it. It is a wonderful device, I'm very happy with it, BUT, i can't play any AVI on it... I'v tried with TCMP .72 and is not working, with Sompy the same, Pocket TV no chance :( Please help me! Tell me a player or how to solv the problem 10x

  • To KC: you pay only what you talk and when you are in the internet and depends on your operator's price list.

  • Hi. I never use PDA phone. How much do I have to pay at least a month? Is it gon' be charged only while I'm using the internet service?

  • This is my first pda phone. it really good. Typing with the qwerty pad is fast surprisingly. thanks.. Use the pda to send this message...

  • It's quick all right... there seems to be no lag at all.

  • All above is fine, BUT: I cannot use the TyTN outside in normal daylight! The screen is almost invisible even with screen illumination set to maximum.

  • Hi! Can I use thie phone to remote two bluetooth device in same time? (eg. GPS and headset)

  • It supports HSDPA (guaranteed), only coverage of network is the limit. My question: is the calendarfunction really much quicker in use? Mij Q-tec 9100 is to slow in changing from week to week or dauy to day and even blocks when yoo overdemand it.

  • Was waiting for my Dopod 838 Pro to arrive but ended up with HTC TyTN and can say that this phone is the best i have ever owned... 3G, GPRS, Wifi, Bluetooth, USB and InfraRed connectivity.... As for HSDPA.. yup, it does support it. You need to do something to the registry in order to enable HSDPA. Overall.. This phone is First Class!!

  • Does anyone knows if t supports HSDPA? Because in some other reviews it seems that doesn't so. Anyway,I think it is the perfect phone! And if someone wants a GPS he can install the software and use a remote GPS device.

  • Thanks DRM. Excellent advice about the MP3`s. And here I was about to hack the registry ! Cheers, my fav. phone just got better !

  • MS Phones may seems to be complicated to use, but there is a lot of free self developed software in the www to customise it to your taste. Even the 2 soft key or any keys can be change for a different function. You can go to many website (one eg. is ) Agree that the stylus is loose, I have ever loose it once but found it 1 day after by a colleague of mine. Solution is that I have a leather bag (same size as my PDA) to place it completely inside and even if it drops, it is still inside the bag. For the HTC Universal PPC Phone that I have, place the mp3 ringtones in the root directory of your storage card (external) or \windows\ring (internal), your phone is able to recognise them. Read more widely at different website, you will find that what MS provides is only the bare basic, what is available in different website is so vast that after I have started using PPC, I have still not able to explore everything yet. It is very exciting for people who love technology. So this type of phone is not for people with weak heart. HeeHee

  • Have just trialed this wonderful product for 2 weeks but regret have returned it. Reasons are two fold. 1/. While I am sure windows will eventually dominate the smart phone market, the windows 5 software is really far to complicated. So many strokes to get to the point. This is speaking as an ex Psion / Palm user. 2/. The pen ceased clicking into place in it's slot....making the device useless, the straw that broke the back I am afraid. 3/. The touch screen is great, but the icons on screen are far to fiddly to access. 4/. How do you access the sim card adderss book easily? It's a puzzle, as ar many of the setting in the software. 5/. The buttons on the outside of the body are good, BUT they are all in far to easy to touch accidentally places. In conclusion, the problems are MOSTLY windows software based....which si why I will now wait to buy the new Palm Treo where i am confident the software will be more realistic about the needs of busy people. Secondly, the failure of the pen slot holder in less than 2 weeks was the deciding factor. The keyboard is fantastic, the size JUST about acceptable but the camera software awful. On balance - if you like windows software then this smartphone is very exciting, and I may come back to this manufacturor in a year expecting the hardware problems to be solved.

  • Is this the same as the m3100 ? If so, asolutely fantastic. I can`t rate it enough. Had it for 2 days & still finding more features. It has everything I need to complete my work, Excel, word, an intuitive navigation system and a good camera with loads of options. The battery life is excellent too ! You want a pocket Pc..you got it in this baby ! Only problem so far is assigning MP3`s from EXT. memory to ringtones, but a fix is available to those brave enough !

  • HI! can any one give me 3 payg network settings for htc tytn please

  • fantastic phone!!i would like to have one.this phone is great,it has all the features im looking for a cellphone..

  • HSCSD is available by software upgrade, mate.

  • i read ten other reviews they all said it has hscsd it gsmarena wrong or not does it have it does anyone know

  • I am thinking to get HTC TyTN or SE P990,i wonder if somebody tried both of them and can compare them? Thanks!

  • How easy is it to activate the loudpeaker during a call? Do you have to wait for the call to answer before activating the loudspeaker? Thanks in advance.

  • Great Phone Welldone HTC

  • interesting cell.................whats samsung processor?????????

  • this phone is a real dream, screw nokia n93...

  • This has to be the most complete phone on the market. wifi, 3G, Qwerty.....so much more. sure itll be over 600 GBP

  • After waiting sooooo long for the Sony/Ericsson P990i, I have given up on them. Screw you SE!!. This HTC TyTn kills the P990i! It has Wifi b & g, EDGE, dual camera. The keyboard layout is more practical for mobile email. This is the best communicator phone.

  • For long time we were waiting this phone as O2 Trion or Qtek 9600 or Imate JasJam and it has appeared eventually by the maker HTC. It is a GREAT phone as the keyboard is very practical. Also, the 3G ability it is the 1st time appearing in a practical form on a PDA. And, finally Microsoft is indicating that it will make it as a strong opponent with Window based mobiles.

  • Very nice phone. Has alot of fantastic features such as video call, 2mp camera, handwriting recognition etc. Nice screen full QWERTY keyboard. Very nice upgrade from the wizard.
