Huawei MediaPad M5 8 - User Reviews

  • I use nova launcher on Huawei Y360 phone that has KitKat (4.4.2) I only white listed nova in its built-in app killer (in newer androids they moved it to power saving options I heard) I don't know if in newer huawei devices they always come back to default launcher or not but in my phone it don't get back to default launcher. Although I did the above to achieve that I think. (I don't remember because I changed it two years ago)

  • HIya. I'm interested to know about the current EMUI 9.0 (and the supposed newer EMUI 9.1) of the Mediapad M5 tablet. Some of my other questions: 1 Is there a full systemwide dark mode? 2 Is there a swipe up to reveal the apps tray? (hate the apps tray icon and the traditional 3 nav buttons on the bottom of the screen) 3 Any enhancements to the audio? 4 IS there a Night Mode or blue light filter? 5 Is there a Chromecast support now? Or do we have to download a 3rd-party app? 6 Can we still install 3rd-party launchers? 7 A way to change the RGB colour gamut of the screen? 8. Does it support fast charging? Many thanks.

  • There is a wifi only and cellular versions of this tablet.

  • It actually supports the M Pen. Do your research.

  • There is a slot for a memory card.

  • Anyone use 3rd party launcher? Does it automatically change back to EMUI like any other huawei smartphones? I need use different launcher... If yes wont buy it.

  • Argos has M5 8. There is no sim slot. Anybody know why? They carry a different version?

  • Which is better huwaei media 5 8 or MI pad 4?. Confused which one to buy

  • Does it support two sim/or is it a dual sim phone?

  • No,it would not support M Pen.

  • Does it support m pen

  • You can buy an adapter.

  • this tablet comes with no earpiece.. then can use only speaker or earphone.. this is one of the shortcomings that stop me from buying this tablet

  • I want to know about its portability.. Is this can be carried in pant pocket easily? Is this can be operated by one hand?

  • It has an earphone converter, from huawei to 3.5mm audio, which is similar to iphone earpod converter to convert the iphone lighten earpods to 3.5mm earphone

  • Even the 10.8" tablet doesn't have the earphone jack. It's nothing about the size. The manufacturers are trying to move away from the earphone jack, in order to peddle something newer and more expensive to the consumers.

  • An 8 inch device, still couldn't find some space for a headphone jack?!?

  • Yes, you can use it like mobilfone.

  • Yes like on any other phone

  • Can I use this device for calling like any other mobile ? I mean to put it near my ear not using a headphone. Is it really has only speaker if any calls happen ?

  • It receives security patches about every 2 months, but no Android 9 Pie update. Not at this writing.

  • HI, Anybody got an updaate to Mediapad M5 8 ? I am still waiting for. Seems no update available since introduction ?

  • i have it, in performance it can keep pace with my samsung note 8

  • I need to know...Between Huawei (with their Media Pad tablets), Lenovo (with Tab 4 lineup) and Xiaomi (Mi Pad 4) which company would you consider is doing more initiative in releasing updates (security, major Android updates, etc.) more quicker, more often and more longer?

  • What does itu mean? Does itu mean i cant use my Samsung headphone in Huawei MediaPad m5?

  • In which case, the phablet should have two USB-C jacks: one at the bottom for charging and one at the top for listening, although I don't suppose that anyone will be listening and charging simultaneously. That will make it so that it doesn't seem like something is being omitted, yet you are being charged the same price.

  • Great device! Ideal for watching online vids, pictures and making calls. Use it in combination with a Bluetooth headphone to make your video and calling experiences so much more pleasurable and hands free.

  • Dimming should be fixed. I'm still waiting for some kind of update.

  • Why are people so stupid, the only reason there is no headphone jack is to make the device thinner and more modern. It comes with a usb-c adaptor so people stop winging about old school and get modern. By 2020 all decent devices will be sold with phono socket.

  • How is the performance compared to iPad? Is this available at SM North Annex?

  • Yes, it has OTG function and flash drive data can be read and played in the Mediapad

  • Yes, my bad. I think I meant to say no headphone jack. Which I think is less and less a concern as you can simply use an adapter they supply. This thing also has bands LTE 4 which is what you need for T-mobile in USA. I'm seriously thinking of getting this.

  • can use otg?

  • Can I make phone calls with this in the US on AT&T ?

  • In case anyone's interested, GPU on this set is Mali-G71 MP8.

  • Yes there is no flash, kind of weird to a have a decent camera but no flash so you'd just have to rely on natural lighting, but for me I don't really use the camera so it's not an issue.

  • No headphone jack, as if removing the headphone jack on smartphones wasn't enough.... Quite possibly the most weirdest and irrational decision ever made by a company.

  • No headphone jack, as if removing the headphone jack off of smartphones wasn't enough.... Quite possibly the most weirdest and irrational decision ever made by a company.

  • my friend bought the M5 8 and there is NO flash.

  • A friend of mine bought the M5 8 and there is NO FLASH, even though advertised as having one. There is not even a flash icon in the camera UI.

  • For that shipping cost on ebay, better choose GearB or GeekB.

  • Yes

  • Does the Mediapad M5 comes with Google Play?

  • Yes, mine shipped from China (eBay), be aware that there will be shipping and duty fees.

  • Where can I find the wifi only 64GB version, selling overseas?

  • Yes there is a LTE version 64GB which is more expensive, I thought about buying that version but I don't know if my carrier would be compatible so didn't risk it.

  • Does it come in LTE/simcard version ?

  • Packaging includes a 3.5mm to type-c headphone jack adapter and a transparent case. Got mine from ebay shipped to Canada.

  • Got mine a week ago 8 inch/64GB Wifi version. I had to give up my Tab S2 8.0 because my mom broke her ipad, seems the same as far as speed goes, but the battery life is better on the Huawei not because the size is slightly bigger than the Tab S2 (4100 vs 5100 mAh) but in idle it doesn't drain the battery which is nice. I like the Huawei more because of the finger print gestures, the sound quality is amazing, no other tablet can beat that sound, also I like that it has a type-C so I just need one cable to charge my phone and tablet.

  • @Urbanra5cal thats good news!!! ive been wanting this unit and been hesitating to buy it on online... how much you bought for the unit??

  • What is the Widewine Level in the stock ROM? Level 1 or level 3? And the Bluetooth in this model still sharing the antenna with WiFi?

  • When this will be launched in India.

  • Best comment I read (after purchasing a Huawei tablet) was 'There in NO option anymore at Huawei's Mediapad with 4.1 (EMUI) and above for using SD as internal storage OR moving apps to SD...placing the Tablet at the worst position of all competition...'

  • stop such jibberish. There are 2 cameras. And I went to your link listened through the video and towards the end he says there are 2 cameras.

  • Just in case somebody is wondering if Huawei plan to sell this model in Poland - no, it will not be available in PL. "We would like to inform you that at the moment there are no plans regarding the official distribution of MediaPad M5 8 in Poland" came from "Huawei Customer Support". So if somebody was waiting for it to become available - there is no reason to wait. Either to order from other location, or search for replacement.

  • Got mine thru Lazada

  • Very good tablet, if you look for this type of device in 2018. A good competitor for Ipads. A little bit expensive, but far better than what Lenovo and Asus are offering right now in this price range. Also, the Huawei software is one of the best I've used so far (except maybe for stock Android).

  • You will have to buy a $2 accessory from places like GearBest to enable you to do that. It is basically a splitter and you can either have a female type-c and 3.5 mm connector on the power side, or you can have a standard usb male and 3.5 mm connector on the power side. The latter is more useful for plugging straight into a powerbank without connecting cables.

  • It does not have 3.5 mm headset socket on the device, but uses a type-c to 3.5 mm headset adaptor cable.

  • Mediapad has 3,5 for headphones!

  • is there already available in the philippines? thank you!

  • Me too

  • i like it a lot! Very fast and the screen is gorgeous. Satisfied with my M5!!!

  • I see this as an adequate replacement for my aging Galaxy Tab S 8.4, which is over 4 years old now and lacks hardware decode of h.265 video. I primarily use my current tablet to read ebooks, news and watch video, with the occasional web browsing. I already use bluetooth headphones and external speakers, so the deleted headphone jack doesn't doesn't bother me. I would rather use USB-C anyway as it is much more robust and will last longer than microUSB. I'm hopeful it will have LineageOS support as that's what has kept my SM-T700 going for so long.

  • When there is type-C, why still need MHL?

  • What in the world make them having us to use an adopter for 3.5 mm Audio Jack in a tablet !!!, Really disappointing

  • nevermind:D

  • There is no headphone jack..

  • If huawei mediapad m5 8.4 come with dual sim same design with earpiece i am the one who realy waiting for buy but huawei broke my heart...let hope they include 18:9 ration with dual camera and flash in mediapad m6 but same design just cross the finger

  • no audio jack 3.5? The price must be expensive. Teclast t8 much better.

  • No 3.5 Jack, 2 yo processor, no MHL support. I was eagerly waiting and now have second thoughts.

  • When can I buy it? Where can I get the 128gb tablet?

  • Can you recharge it and keep the headphone plugged at the same time? Thanks

  • If u want growth your sell b first on tab...next mediapad or mediapad 6 should come with 18:9 ratio n same display include flash n earphone jack....

  • Does the adapter allow you to charge while you are using the headphones?

  • It has a plug adapter for 3.5 mm headphones jack. No problem.

  • You may use your 3.5 mm headphones. M5 comes with the plug adapter 3.5 to usc Type C and works fine.

  • It comes with a plug adapter for the current headphones plug. Works fine.

  • some of the downloaded apps cannot open for Huawei device

  • Fully agree.

  • Can you make phone calls with mediapad m5?is actually an earpiece on the device or you have to use abluetooth speaker?

  • I have huawei mediapad m3, and It doesn't receive any update in Iran. I will never buy any huawei devices anymore. shame on huawei with its weak support. (dislike)

  • This would have been my next purchase for a large tablet but NO headphone jack !! Forget it.

  • No 3.5mm jack on a media tablet?!?! Does Huawei think that I will use their crummy $5USD buds to listen to movies? My headphones cost twice more than the whole mediapad and it's 3.5mm exclusively. Another brain-dead stupid decision by Huawei. The same reason I Skipped Mate 10 Pro - no 3.5mm jack (and no sdcard on that either). Just stupid beyond belief, esp. when it is NOT a space-saving issue. There's plent of space on a tablet for even two 3.5mm jacks AND a USB-C. What does Huawei think we should do on 12hour flights when we need to recharge AND listen at the same time? Stupd, stupid, stupid.

  • I have 8.4 M3 and love it But no 3.5mm jack on M5 ?????? and mate 10 pro wtf I was really happy to se a nice 10" tablet but useless without 3.5mm Huawai was my favorite "brand" But now they are just a random china brand with no mini jack :( You will loose some audio quality with usb-c adapter So now the have the best useless products on the market, mate 10 pro, M5 8.4 M5 10 Wow

  • there is no camera see video link of unboxing

  • Does this have NFC?

  • Yes there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, but it does come with a small usb-C adapter to still use wired headphones. So not ideal but not the end of the world. But my person opinion is its 2018 and if you're not using a pair of wireless headphones yet then you're the one with the problems. Soon all devices will follow and you will fall behind. Here it says the primary camera has a flash? If true, then that is a big bonus for someone like me who uses these small tablets as their everyday smartphone.

  • I have an M3 8.4 that I love. I use it a lot on planes and enjoy the comfort and choice of headphones that I can plug in. I will not buy an updated device that has no headphone jack as it is an essential on ultra long haul flights from Australia to anywhere. I simply do not understand the deletion of the headphone jack on tablets. Even where you have kids using these devices in the car you want them to plug in headphones - and you simply dont have bluetooth headphones lying around, charged and ready to go for this purpose.

  • It would be more meaningful if devices without a 3.5mm jack would come with some kind of wireless in ear headphones.

  • Why no headphone jack 3.5 mm ? Maybe there is a Jack in Huawei who hijack the headphone jack materials and sell them, leading to making no headphone jack MediaPad M5 8.

  • no 3.5 jack = no buy. respect your customers!
