go to accessories folder and open it there u will find an option called clear storage. Click that option and enter the code 1234 your phone will restart and starts installing fresh operating system after the process is complete set the options according to your convinient.

i am using imate sp5 since 2 years. Sync with microsoft active sync never worked using bluetooth. you must you usb cable, and not bluetooth. (i know they have mentioned the same in the manual, but does not work.) normal file transfer using bluetooth works.

i have a sp5.im even on it right now. the thing is i dont understand why so many problems. a carpenter should never blame his tools if the couch came out wrong. i use mine for wireless printing,email,spreadsheets,word docs,movies,mp3s,basically most things and i have found all the support from the internet. both software and hardware. i guess not all people are meant to own an imate. but if u do its not a pc nor jus a cellphone. its a smartphone. guess if the user isnt smart enough to use it then dont own it.

Skype can work without using a wifi connection. skype will be working on the gprs connection, which is limited in bandwidth. so if you login on skype using the gprs and make a phone call using skype, the voice quality will not be the best, and call drops might take place. i recommend a phone that has a 3G for making call using skype

to format the windows on the SP5. visit wwww.clubimate.com, register your phone by using the serial number on it. choose device support, then click on the sp5 phone icon. you will find all the software support for this phone, including the configuration for your gprs service provider enjoy :)

The Blue tooth on SP5 is not for file transfer. just for a modem connection between a PC or laptop.

well, eventually the register on the phone is not large enough, so if we have several programs installed. ie " google earth, skype, and any other thing", you will find a message that appears advising that the memory is not enough even if you have a 2 Gega flash memory. The way to solve that is to make a backup of all the contacts on outlook, and a backup for your messages using netcool prog, and format the windows on this mobile. once you install the operating system, install just the prog you really are using, try to avoid big application, in the end remember it is a phone not a computer :)

What a crappy phone. I had one for about a year when the problems started. At first it gave messages that the phone is running low on memory and I had to delete messages which I did with no success. One can not use the phone until you respond to the message. Then it started vibrating and the only way to stop it is to remove the battery. I contacted my service provider and they said to bring it in. As I am staying 200km from the service provider Altec Autopage, by the way also worst service ever received, I could not do it right away. One evening as I was in the shower I heard the phone that was on charge on the dressing table starting to vibrate again. Before I could dry and reach the phone I heard a sound and the phone was quiet. Yes it fell of the dresser as it was vibrating the whole time. I took it on the 26th September to Altec Autopage Polokwane and explained what happened and and that was the last I heard except for the three times I have called to inquire and the one time I went in person. On the 12th of November at about 17h15 someone called me from the repair department of I presume Altec and said the cost would be in access of R2600.00. I asked but was it not supposed to be a guarantee repair and she said there was physical damage to the phone. I again explained and she again said the guarantee do not cover the damage. Now how ridiculous that a mobile phone fall of a bedside table and the damage is in excess of R2600.00. What else could it be that a CRAPPY phone and even a crappier service provider.

Now every time i turn it on it shows the homepage but will not respond to any of the keys (except earpiece volume) The keys appear locked though there wasn't a keypad lock before that. please help me, reset code (hold camera + plug in usb) is not helping at all either..

Hi everyone! I am working for norwegian i-mate support - dealing with local support of i-mate customers. Here are some answers: Copy contacts from SIM to internal memory: Use a 3rd party program called SIMimp - - be aware that contact details that you might have entered on a "normal" mobile-phone might not be imported into internalmemory of your Windows Mobile phone Speed dial - there is a dial "application/skin" - when you start dialing a phone number - i.e. pressing 33..then phone numbers/contacts with this number will pop up...and disappearing if you write 334 - and only one contact have this phone number..if you understand. You can associate a number from 2-99 to different contacts (1 is for mobile answering machine - normally fetched out from the SIM-card) by going into Contact list->Open contact->Menu->Add Speed Dial - normally this is automatically set to a key. To use it, be on today screen, keep key pressed (for instance 3). It could be that more than one contact have been automatically associated to a key, then you will se a speed-dial list of these contacts.

Following up and answering questions. The phone runs clearvue office suite and reads Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Acrobat files. This suite can be installed on the storage card to prevent using up valuable phone memory. I�ve also ported to the card the temp internet, cookie files and whole load of MP3�s. Pocket TV is a great app with loads of demo videos to download. Wi-Fi is great � I�m sending and receiving my emails in the dentist, coffee shop etc for free. After several weeks of use, I�m now used to its little quirks and features & I�m very happy with the phone. Stick a 1G card in and you can carry all your apps, data and even a whole movie around with you. Only a couple of grumbles: The storage card is inside the phone, so to change it (i.e. put your sat nav tom tom in) you have to take the battery out. You can�t add text to a task. Awesome phone

I've taken delivery of an XDA IQ (SP5). Here's my opinion. Great phone, quick and intuitive. Bad points - Cannot send and recieve emails from the same account you sync up with, not really a problem as you can create a duplicate account & send / receive leaving messages on the server for outlook to collect next log on. Also Tasks, you cannot add text to a task. I downloaded notepad from the net, which works nicely. WiFi easy to set up & works well. Camera OK, MP3 tones for all events. A memory card is a must - You'll soon use memory up. All round, it's a nice, small powerful PDA phone.

Click on the contact name on the Sim, then go to Menu, then click on Save to Contact. Best is to sync with your Outlook contact, the fastest and most info.

I am a heavy mobile user for email and msn access and frankly the joy-stick of the phone is worst, I have ever found in any phone. I have used several sony phones (all joy stick based) and never faced this much trouble. The navigation stick went bad just after 3 days of use and now not working at all. I have used the SP3i for some time. I sync it with Outlook contacts, calender and tasks, which works well. HOwever, when calling up tasks on the SP3i, it lists them alphabetically, not in date order. Also, the reminder for tasks all take place at once (8am), even if you have different times in tasks on outlook. How does SP5 handle sync and tasks?

Well i just buyed this phone 4 dayz bak i find sp5 much better than sp5m well there is not much difference the only difference is that sp5m have extra buttonz like shortcut keyz thats IT rest iTz all same. Sp5 have the look and keypad is also better than M. Joystick is better. In short sp5 is the best smartphone i have seen it have everything in it EXCEPT RADIO :(

How to make calls for free using SP5 buy everyone in your family the SP5 and put skype on it and talk to each other fore free, using WiFi The installation cabs from Skype will not install on the device directly, complaining it is not compatible. I fired up the MagicCab, a cab extraction utility by Inventop, to extract the files and registry. There is two groups, one goes under \Storage Card\Program Files\Skype, the other goes to \Windows. I then created a .reg file to import with the details. The full setup steps are: 1. Copy the files to proper locations. The file can be downloaded at here Extract the files, copy them to your device using Active Sync's file explorer. The main difference from v1, SkypeSetup.dll goes to \Windows, and if you have installed v1 before, delete \Storage Card\Program Files\Skype 2. You will need a registry editor, PHM Registry Editor or I used Resco Explorer's Registry addon and imported the .reg file (go to the folder you copied the reg file via File Explorer or Resco Explorer 2003, click to execute and import it. 3. Copy the Skype.lnk file under \Windows\Start Menu 4. Reboot the device. 5. Run the Skype using the link. After the long license agreement page, agree and continue. 6. This step, I haven't done during an upgrade from v1 to v2, as my login info was already saved. If you are doing a fresh it will say Tap here to sign in, as you all know there is no touch screen on the smartphone. We'll need the help of either Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys or Pocket Controller Pro I used Pocket Controller. MS Developer Power Toys comes with ActiveSync Remote Display, which can be used to access the Smartphone via your PC. Whichever you use (Soti provides a trial version as well), you can click on the PC to the Tap here part and voila, it will pop up your account login details. Once you enter them, it will save them, and you won't need to worry about it. Then it will connect and there you have a working version of Skype. Now time to have fun with your Skype :)

hey! phone is quiet good & is more compareable to nokia's E60. and E60 has more feartues than in sp5 viz: office applications, PTT,downloadable games, voip over wlan, gprs etc... also print options. Can we download skype software onto this phone directly from skype.com & can skype work in gprs, wi-fi network areas... Also this phone does'nt have msoffice - word, notepad, xls,mobile powerpoint...Can we get this in a whole new version of sp5? The SP5i.???

i have had many phones and this phone is one of the best, but i thing i dont understand. I rely on sending group text / sms messages when I travel to save time on informing people on my movements and this phone doesnt not have the function, I find this a great disappointment. Also you can't add notes when synconizing with outlook...

This phone, the I-Mate SP5, is the same as the Qtek 8310 and the O2 XDA Orion. These phones are are manufactured by HTC Inc.(www.htc.com.tw). I-Mate, Qtek and O2 just purchase the rights from HTC to put their logos on these phones. Needless to say the phones are all the same and it doesnt matter if you get a I-Mate, Qtek or a O2.

I just got this phone, and after owning many smartphones and pda's, I must admit I am very impressed. The WiFi is great but it drains the battery quickly. When WiFi is disabled the phone will go for about 2 days without a charge, with normal daily use. Yes it does play videos, but you must install 3rd party programs for certian file types. Video and audio play back are excellent! I have a 2gig MiniSD in my SP5, and i have a couple movies on it as well a decent amount of MP3's. Web browsing with the WiFi is great! Can go to any non-flash based site on the web! Setting up the GPRS data connect to my provider was a pain, due their tech support is full of morons! I did a google search and got all the info I needed. All in all the phone is fantastic! I am very pleased. only possible downfall would be that the joystick is not meant for the fat fingered, but i dont have that issue!

Beleive me I have tried a few phones in my time, being a bit of a gadget freak...I have to tell you honestly this is possibly the best phone I have ever had, I think the ease of use in syncing with my computer coupled with the fact it is a windows based phone make it an idea business companion. Emails arrive at pre sent intervals ( set up on the phone ) and the T9 text inputting is a breeze to work with. Some great features I would like to point out to any potential buyers. 1: When you dial a number, the phone recongises from your contacts folder the numbers that you use most, making it easy to scroll down and choose the number you want to dial. 2: Contacts are very simple to find on the phone, if you are using multiple email addresses when you choose to send a mail from the contacts folder it will ask you which address you want to send it from, giving you the best flexibility of business and private emails. 3: The camera is good but not something you would buy the phone for as it is not too good in poor light. 4: I have used the phone from the time it was released and I have had NO problems with the phone locking, freezing, stopping, it has given faultless use for almost a year.

Great phone but two problems: The circular button can either be too sensitive or not at all. When lifting the phone from its supplied holster it's easy to cancel a call. This is because the top row of buttons are rasied and the left most one cancels the call. On the other hand the screen is wonderful and, with a mini-SD card you can store all the MP3s you like.

well this phone is very cool..but has following issues: 1. Multimedia Playback volume while using speaker phone is too low. 2. Call ring volume is too low to hear sometimes. I have missed a few calls that way. 3. There is no self timer for its camera..something very common in SE phones. 4. Software availability is not as good as imate PDAs. i've had this phone for about two weeks now and it's amazing. i love everything about it. it's compact, yet has all the features you can ask for (and extra, like wi fi). good reception, good call quality, spearkerphone volume is loud! (it's also used to mp3 playback so next time you travel, you can leave your portable speakers at home). the camera is not the greatest. (btw, no flash - just a "night mode" option). but c'mon, do you really buy a phone to use as a digital camera?! so overall, an awesome phone!!! i know you won't be disappointed either if you buy it.

Hello I had purchased SP5 two months ago and still have no problems with it. An excellent phone despite many other phones with many features are available in market. Couple of things it have are: Superb display have 181 dpi resolution where paper print are 304.8 dpi and monitor have 96 dpi 2. Strong processor speed 3. Windows Mobile 5 3. WIFI which I already using in my office and it is outstanding. 4. Battery life can stand for more than three days standby. Thanks

I bought the SP5 about a month ago and i'am prety happy with it . I did have some problems with getting the mms settings right. I ams ataying the UAE which helps as the i-mate call center is toll free and very helpfull.It has perty good battery but internal memery is not good on 64mb i just put a 512mb sd card it better than ever. On the hole the phone is very good

Well the m stands for Music! The only difference between SP5 and SP5m is that the m one has 4 extra buttons just above the keypad to control music. The shape is different too! I personally like the SP5 better because of its elegant design and shape! As far as the features are concerned everythings same! I am buying one tomorrow hopefully!! This phone truely is the best until now!

It has 64 MB RAM, I checked it on the I-Mate site. The GSMArenA site says it only has 32 MB, but beneath the specifications they said that they can't guarantee that all the information is right...

I got my i-mate SP5 a few days ago and have to say it is INCREDIBLE. I had an o2 XPhoneII before, but this is something else altogether. The API integration in WM5 is so much better, meaning the phone works better and looks more uniform throughout. Bluetooth is finally useable, the T9 dictionary is editable and the screen is spectacular. Within 3 minutes I had it set up and syncing directly with my corporate exchange server. I've got the wi-fi option enabled, meaning i can sync my email wherever there is an access point (and when there's not, use GPRS). Setting up GPRS and MMS can be a challenge, but the i-mate website has some auto configuration applications which cover many regions. The one for Vodafone Australia doesn't work so I had to do it manually, no mean feat. I will post instructions on MoDaCo on how to do it. Things I don't like the phone include the inability to easily (ie without reg hack) change the soft key function (which says "Contacts" despite there being a dedicated "Contacts" button. The photo contacts app has taken a step back (now only presents a tiny copy of the pic when your contact rings) and the included ringtones and colour schemes are still very basic. I would highly recommend this phone, for the price (AUD$729) it can't be beat.

let me get this straight...you want to control servers from your phone? would it kill you to use a laptop or handheld pc with wi-fi? this is a phone, pda, personal device, first and foremost. it's cool that it can do some other things, but really, to complain that it doesn't do them as well as something that's designed specifically for the task is just plain retarded. until vnc comes up with a mobile client, this is as good as it's going to get on a phone. the only things i would change on this phone are the processor speed. but i am happy with what it has right now.

I wouldn't say SP5 is better than Jasjar... I really like VGA screen more that the QVGA on SP5. OF course QVGA on such small device is also excellent, VNC would be almost usable and I really need mobility while still be able to remote controll servers in case of disaster.

Ever tried to dial out on a jasjar? Where's the keypad? It's a stupid design. I hate all the flip, slid, swivel nonsense. The sp5 is perfect. It's small, easy to hold, perfectly suited for dialling quickly, and has all the features you could want. It is easy to navigate the menu trees, and does everything you could want efficiently. I have used the SP3i extensively, and this SP5 is an improvement over that in all key areas: processor power, memory, battery life, speakerphone and internal speaker quality, etc., etc. It looks like i-mate listened to its customers. The non-phone features have all been improved too...awesome! Better megapixel camera, better sync with Bluetooth or through the cord, WiFi, EDGE, screen resolution, more gaming/pda/other functions, etc., etc. This is the one device you need. No need to carry a PC, ipod, camera (for casual use), and phone when you can do it all from here. With a simple software download, you can also use it as a GPS device. All this and you can operate it single-handedly. Wow!
