LG CU500 - User Reviews

  • it was my favorite phone

  • this was my very first cell phone. i remember the exact day my father bought this phone for me. it was on December the 31st of 2006. this phone was always good to me it never failed at anything. i could drop it from a 2 story building and it'd survive. the only reason i had to stop using it was because the battery wouldn't last long so sadly i had to give it up. while everybody else had the motorolla razor i had this bad boy.

  • I have the LG CU 500 and I think you have to have the CU500v to do video "calling." There may be a firmware update that will give yours that capability, but I'm not so sure about that. You might wanna look into it though.

  • to make any memory card to accept...just format the card in FAT format...

  • something's wrong with my phone. i've put different micro sd cards, (1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb), but it always says "card not ready" can anyone help me?

  • I can use the TV in this Phone LG cu 500

  • Soak it in distill water for one hour

  • I have used LG CU500 from eBay for US$50. Very bad calling signal. Power drop bateray, not even last for a day. Had changed to 2G mode, but bateray only last for one day or even last. Really a waste for my money! Cheap material build. Really disapointed!

  • I had this phone for 3 months as a replacement to my old phone that broke and ill say it gets terrible reception and just yesterday it died all I can do is text on it it recieves calls but cant hear voice and when i dial someone i cant hear a dial tone I dont know whats wrong with it but I think it was a waste of my money.

  • yes I have had this phone for a few years but, it has terrible signal, has trouble recieving calls and texts even when there is signal, the numaric pad does not work during calls so you cant put in your password for voicemail, the battery lasts a day, i could go on but i wont thats enough.

  • picture messaging and internet settings thanks

  • I had this phone for a year and it IS a very good phone! Yes it lights up, it is very bright at night the speaker phone is the loudest and probably the best on any phone iv ever had. Its an all around good phone. As far as comparing this to the "V" I'm not sure about that. Hope that helps.

  • Hi. I've read through the comments, but for every person who says 'this phone sucks!' there's another who says 'this is the best phone I've ever had.' My questions are these: is the keypad flat or is it a designated keypad? Does it light up (or have the option to light up at night)? Is the screen nice and bright w/good resolution (I have bad eyesight--comes from reading all those bad student papers!)? And finally, what's the difference between the 500v and plain 500? I just now noticed there was a V, and saw that there was ALOT of complaints about the V. Thanks for any info you can provide!

  • its a good phone i use to have a sony ericson and it always freezes...................so where do you put in the memory card? and what type of memory card do i put in?

  • have had this phone for over two years and its been the best dependable phone i ever had. battery is wearing out and aftermarket batteries i have purchased are junk.

  • Hurray I am bad.

  • just want to ask how to make video call on my lg cu500,its a cingular phone model

  • you are so right...! originally my lg cu500 couldn't see my 1G new Kingston micro sd card...all is now fixed

  • This phone cannot display ussd codes

  • hi. how long does it usually take to recharge the battery of this phone? (if the battery is in an ok condition)

  • i can't use memory card always card not ready, what can i do... pls. help. thanks

  • I will never suggest anyone to buy this phone. I had it from cingular (3 units) one year ago where I paid $ 39 exra for the model and the contract is for 2 years. The initial performace for few months was fine. But now the battery of all does not last even a single day time. One of them already lost the ring and only vibration left. Please do not own this phone even if you get it for free.

  • I had this phone, but yesterday it died.. from one too many drops :(.. and It was such a good phone.. and soon i'm going to go buy another one it was that great.. it can just do anything.. i love it! love it love it love it love it! i advise anyone that wants to buy it, go for it! as long as you have a memory card..

  • Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if its not reading your memory card just go to menu, cingular music, music player, then shuffle songs...i dont know why this works it just does lol u may have to do it more than once

  • update

  • CU500 is for Cingular (it was announced befor AT&T took over) TU500 is for Telstra

  • indeed, i have the same thing. Complaints, every day... though we still sell a truck load of them! kinda like the Motorola v3x. sold millions, got millions of complaints.

  • you can't mute sms alerts without muting the whole phone...don't like that

  • i was using this mobile phone it is great and awesome i dosent have any problem wid ths mob ever i used ths abt 3 years just bcz iths is great.thts y?and looooooooove tht mob but on 10th of june i hav losted tht mob i m soo much shoooked when that is not in my pocket.......................

  • i've had the cu500 for almost a year and for the last 2-3 months the battery life is whack. i charge it for 4 hrs. and 20 mins. later it only has one bar. also, the camera doesn't work well like other phones in the dark. other than that, the phone is excellent.

  • CU500 is the same as the TU500 Although it may take a 2gig card, you will only be able to use 1gig of it. 1gig is the limit for the software of this phone :)

  • i got this phone but it was called TU 500 but it looks identical and has mp3 rintones and i put a 2gb memer card

  • how to do the card of memory of 1GB to work in LG ASS 500? The cellular is not recognizing the memory.

  • which the maximum capacity of the personal computer MICRO SD indicated for that LG CU 500?? I bought a card of memory of 1GB and the cellular doesn't recognize. which the right card for this model of cellular?? 15 de abril de 2008

  • This phone has gotten me through thick and thin... Its AWESOME....

  • It sucked in the begining but overall a good phone with good features.

  • its very difficult to use my bluetooth . anytime i try to send through bluetooth the other device does not detect my phone. i have 00:19:a1:7a:cd:07 as bluethooth address i don't know if that is the problem . if there is a general bluetooth address iwill appreciate it so much from your outfit.thank you soo much. expecting your cooperation

  • Question, I recently dropped this phone into water and although I cleaned it up ery well a weird thing happened. The phone now only works when it is hooked up to the charger and shows as charge complete but as soon as I take the charger out the phone dies and does not turn back on. Other than that every single button works perfect, what would cause this? anyone know?

  • customers complain to me about this phone, every. single. day.

  • I recently purchased this phone, as agreed with most of us, the phone is great if you do not want all the bells and whistles. I had problems with battery life before I found a solution and that was to turn off the dual network mode on the phone. Someone posted it on the AT&T forum. AT & T has the new 3G system, but this phone constantly looks for both networks and uses battery power to do so. It looks for the best signal. This is how you can changefrom 3G to 2G. Press277634#*# Then go through the menu: 5.Modem Setting 2.Network Mode 1.Network Mode 2.2G only Then, after you have done that, if you are having problems with the earpiece volume also, hit your back button and go to: 7. GSM Speech Ver Select 1. EFR Speech Pref So, after doing all that, I still get poor reception. Ready to throw it at a wall. I decided to take it apart and found the phone has an antenna board on the opposite cover shell of the main baord and it has a little metal clip that touches the phone's main board. The main board has a tiny square metal surface the clip touches when you close the two phone cover shells together. I realized then, the clip was not properly touching the board because of my bad reception. I bent the clip in the proper angle too where once I close the two shells together, the antenna clip would touch the board surface much harder. I was even thinking about soldering a small wire to the antenna board linking it to the main board. You know manufacturers make many phones and sometimes in the process somethings do happen. Next time I will solder a wire to the board. Now, I have swapped back to dual network mode and I will find out how well it works. This is not a solution for everyone, but this is something that I found out on my LG CU500. Now I have reception, where I did not have reception before.

  • Ever since I've got this phone I had problems with storing data onto my SD Memory card so my phone memory is always full any ideas

  • Cannot use nor have voice command....must dial to connect to party (bummer)...

  • I just got this phone and in all honesty all I can say is whoaaa!! Besides the more than ample space (1gig) I can play my mp3s, vids and look at pics. It is stylish and I believe it is on it's own level. Keep it up Lg

  • hey i have had this phone for about two years and i haven't had any problems. its great. the mp3 is the best. it gets service practically anywhere

  • I have one of these on the Fido network. It does support video calling on the HSDPA 850 network, meaning the video calling works in north america. Also the blue world icon turns on when you turn on the internet browser or any 3G features.

  • personally i think this phone is crap.. every phone i've had except for 2 have been LG and i have had the worst time with them... i have this phone now and it is horrible.. it drops calls and never has any service.. the screen on the outside cracks really easily and the battery life isn't too good but besides that it is an ok phone.. i just prefer nokia cause you can run over one of them with an 18 wheeler and it will still work..

  • How is text messaging??? good?? bad???

  • Does anyone know what the little blue world icon mean? It pops up every now and then, HELP!!

  • This phone DOES video calling... if your network operator supports it

  • jesse- to turn off the ascending ring tone goto Menu - Settings - Audio & Ringtones - Ring Alert Type - and select "Ring after Vibration". With that setting it will play the ring full blast after a couple vibrates. I think that is the only way to do what you want. This is the setting I use on mine.

  • No this phone does not do video calling at least mine doesn't. It does take pretty good video and pictures for a phone though. I had the same issue as some below where the headset icon would automatically come on and call people. I haven't had any problems since I ripped the little hole cover off the phone (rubber plastic thing that covers the headset hole).

  • does this phone do video calling can anyone tell asap pliz

  • hey does any body know how 2 turn of the absending ring tone.. coz i cant find it and its giving me the S**** can some one help me plz

  • I like the phone, but I seem to be having a problem with adding a memory card. I purchased a 1 gb SanDisk and inserted in the slot but keep getting a message "Card Not Read". Anyone have any suggestions?

  • wow. this phone does alot...but its the ugliest phone ever! it looks big and goofy, but great does things!

  • i loved this phone. i miss it so much, i got it taken away. but yeah, this is worth a buy. its easy to use, and it works soo good. the camera is really neat too.but bad thing is, it doesnt come with a USB cable, or memory card, you have to buy it.but if youre think of buying this phone buy it!

  • ok so I think I fixed my problem. I have 2 solutions. 1)find a small screwdriver, take off the back and you will see that the headset jack is a chip independent of the board. you can take it off and everything. I know this b/c i thought i broke it, when i took it off. anyways, just snap it carefully back into its place. It seems to be working fine, for now. The other solution is easier, take a rubber band and wrap it around near the hinge on the keypad side. that will act as kind of a shock absorber and not put pressure on the headset jack. hope this helps.

  • omg! Last night mine just started doing the same thing as jslakey mentioned. I have no idea why, but I can't even keep it turned on now because it won't stop calling people on its own. I even have to call a client today to apologize for "calling" him 6 times last night when my phone was in my purse! I found that I can shake/bump it to turn the headset thing off, but then can't touch it or it turns back on.

  • I've got the same problem as a few others had. "...beeping (signaling the appearence of the headset icon without anything plugged into it)and calling the last dialed number everytime it was bumped or had pressure applied in anyway....several dozen times a day if it was in my pocket." I went to the ATT store and of course they couldn't do anything since it was past the year warranty. also i emailed LG to see if there was a way to disable the headset feature or something and they also said no. has anyone figured out anything regarding this problem? thanks in advance.

  • . --------------------------- . I wish I could take credit for this but I found this on the AT&T forum when my 3G was not working. But Thanks! . --------------------------- . User - mshl726 11-12-2006 05:13:24 AM . The specs for the phone even state that under UMTS (3G) the talk time is shorter (3 hours versus 5 hours). I don't really surf the web often but I do want long battery life. Battery life (talk/standby) while on 3G networks is no good. I turned off the 3G network radio frequency all together so that I am on GSM and EDGE only. My talk time is definitely hitting the 4-5 hour range when having a long conversation and standby is around 3-4 days with 30-45 minutes of daily usage. Not a great solution since it turns off the biggest selling point of the phone (UMTS) but it's a good phone overall and having long battery life is more important. Turn off 3G by: >enter this number sequence into your phone: 277634#*# >select modem setting >select network mode >selction 1. network mode >highlight 2G only and hit OK >end the red end button Also, turn off your bluetooth when you're not using it actively; it eats up a ton of power! . yes, you can enter that same menu and switch back to 3G... .

  • Can record a voice call? Can download the recorded file?

  • I have used & abused this phone for the past 6 months, and it is still great. Not the most stylish of phones, but it is solid. Loud speakers for ringing & talking. Fast web browsing, and I have dropped it several times with not so much as a scratch. Great Job LG!!!!!

  • yes it gets great service i live in jasper n work n a metal bulding n still get plenty of service (have had 4 two years) AWESOME

  • its the bomb u should bbbbbbbbuuuuuuuuyyyyyyy it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • best phone ive ever had. love the service. love the buttons. all up its a fantastic phone =)

  • . I have had the phone for about 6 months in USA. For me the service and all of its features work great. If you are having problems, find out what your warranty covers and use it to your advantage. Just like anything or any other phone nothing can be made perfect and you should easily get a new one. . I loved the swivel camera can take pictures with the clam shell closed. Perfect for taking pictures of people or things without appearing to do so. Esp for those stalker folk, lol. At&t/Cingular advertise the phone as its music phone. The music player works great on it with an excellent sound from the phone itself. There are other features that the phone can do but they are pay-for services. . The OEM headset has a short cord from your ear to the phone. I like to run and having a phone/mp3 player was great to have. Although the headset is not great to run with. You may want to try a different brand or bluetooth stereo headset if that is your fancy. . Service is great. If the area does not have 3G then it will use the existing GSM or 2G service. . The phone that I acquired needed to be unlocked. I called Cingular and they assisted me to unlock the phone. Unfortunately I don't remember the codes that I typed in to do so or I would share. Just call At&t/Cingular and ask for them or be convincing so that they will give it to you. If you do your homework the FCC prohibits phone companies to restrict the phones to be used only by that company. Not sure how Verizon works, because they don't use sim cards. . Only problem I have is my phone got wet and now does now work properly. All of the features work except for the call feature. The phone automatically chooses 3G over any other towers. The call feature on 3G towers will not work, but when manually changed to GSM or a 2G tower then the calling feature works. If someone could assist on helping fix the situation or turn off 3G I would be grateful .

  • I first bought the cu500 about 6 months ago. Three months later it started beeping (signaling the appearence of the headset icon without anything plugged into it)and calling the last dialed number everytime it was bumped or had pressure applied in anyway....several dozen times a day if it was in my pocket. I called Cingular and they shipped me a new one...great. Now, three months after recieving the replacment, the same damn thing is happening again. Arrrgh. Anyone else?

  • i have had this phone for a year. and it has been absolutely awesome. I have had perfect reception, and web browsing is always fast. It sounds great and great external music keys.

  • I am looking at buying this phone, i currently have a Sony Ericsson w500i.. It's pretty good but really boring.. and it's really weak.. Does this phone come with a USB cable to transfer photos and music to and from the phone? Whats the sound like? Does it take CLEAR photos? Are there funky ringtones with it? heh! please email me somebody: [email protected] copy and paste my email coz everybody thinks the l is a 1 thankyou.. Jesse

  • Does this phone have good reception with AT&T?, because one of my friends never gets any reception with his, but I'm with AT&T too and have perfect Reception with a Palm Treo 650. Thanks.

  • I've had the LC CU 500 for a year without incident. I've never really dropped the phone though. The only issue I've had is 'Card Not Ready' with a Toshiba 1gb. I've read Sandisk up to 1gb is ok. I had a Moto MPX220 which I warranteed every other month for a year and then told Cingular they were going to send me a new phone to my liking or else. They sent me the CU500 free of charge and it is bar none the best phone I've ever used or come across.

  • i really loved this phone one time i dropped it in the toilet and it was fine unfortunetly i dropped my in a lake and lost it i think i'm going to buy it again though, it's that good

  • My phone was great, never any connection problems until AT&T took over. I guess I'll change unless they get their act together soon.

  • is this device support omadm or FOTA?

  • It's a very nice phone. Is there a way to add an FM radio in it. Please answer if u know.

  • I am an LG fan, and I just got this phone, but I was a little disappointed that the screen was only 65K colors. For a phone capable of videos and other multimedia, 252K resolution would have been great. My LG M6100 hasn't nearly the same features, but the screen is awesome. Otherwise....a very, very capable phone.

  • I got this phone about 4 months ago and it has started to act up. It was great until about a week ago. (Coincidentally, when I noticed "Cingular" on my phone changed to "ATT") I kept trying to call people and before I could push in the 2nd number it'd turn off. I thought it might be just not charged enough so I let it fully charge all day long and when I came back it was off again. When people call it shuts off, when I try to do anything it shuts off. It keeps poppin up a message saying "Please wait..." And this is extremely irritating that a cellular device is tellin me to wait for 5 minutes at a time. I haven't dropped it, gotten it wet or anything. What is going on?

  • okay, I've had my LG CU500 for about 6 months - for the most part I loved the phone, until two weeks ago. Suddenly it start "reacting" while it was in my pocket, or handling it any way. More specifically the whenever my hand or anything touch the area where you plug in the headset it beep and start dialing whoever i talked to last regardles if i called or they called me. And tonight it called my wife for no reason at all while i'm sitting there talking to her face to face...twice! Anyone else have the same problem. it's very frustrating because i do a lot of business on the phone and it will call my clients after I just talked to them or when I don't intend to call them and it's making things awkward.

  • best phone ever made by humans, only problem is that it is weak where the camera is...

  • Hi, I have been cursed with a LG LU500! Damn Telstra and their lies and crap phone system. The software does not work. The battery is has a shorter life than heavy drug user. The manual is erroneous It will not accept a 2G MSD Card Its a cow to use. To add insult to injury its infiltrated with Telstra propaganda that assaults you every time you open the phone. Its Garbage! But what you can do? T has a govment supported monopoly and there are simply NO options for us out here in the sticks. Cheers, Mike

  • Not a bad phone. No battery life issues, however it only works with certain brands of microSD card under 1Gig (sandisk works). Can't see any instant messaging function at all.

  • I cannot believe that I come to LG's defence, as I generally do not like their mobile products, but the TU500 (Australia's Next G version) has been great. They are reliable, reasonably tough, and has the best coverage compared to any other Next G handset. The two people who have complained on here about the TU500, you sound like you have had a few dud's, and it happens. You have to understand they are manufactured on a mass scale, just like all electronics these days. But in general they are pretty good.

  • Alright heres the bottom line about the Lg Cu500. the signal is great.. everything works great. the camera is awesome. the external music buttons are awesome. It doesn't take 2 gb memory cards yet. it has a micro sd memory card slot. you can only use sandisk memory cards with it. that is very important. the battery life isnt all that good. other than the battery life and the memory card problem the phone is great

  • Yes I've been burnt yet again by Telstra. their NextG service is crap. - Less coverage than CDMA - LG TU500 phone is very poor - Problems with TU500 software - Very poor battery life with TU500 - Can even reply to a Telstra Memo SMS without going through 4-6 keypresses due to crap software, I've been using Mobiles with this service for over 10 years (& probably about 12 phones) and NEVER have I had such a back usability. Next G is extremely disapointing & certainly Telstra should be strung up for the lies about "Coverage Everywhere you need it" .

  • Ksax yes you should still be able to exchange the phone under the warranty provided by the company. If you have Cingular they will ship you a new phone to use while yours is being repaired or just send you another refurbished phone. Where if you go through LG to do it you dont get a replacement during the repair. They attempt to fix your phone and if they cant they also send another refurbished phone to you. fot LG Mobile Phones Customer Support & Warranty Services Toll Free: 1 (800) 793-8896 Email: [email protected]

  • Very wonderful phone. As for the 2gb Cards they will hopefully be supported in the next firmware release. The new firmware is also supposed to allow for video conferencing between the phones. Hopefully they will add the feature to get rid of the asscending ringtone! Well anyhow, great phone.. now we just need the 3G network coverage in my area for faster downloads it would make the live tv even better! If you have cingular you can checkup on your firmware to see if its up to date at: :8082/scgui/init.jsp Good luck and enjoy your phones!

  • I ordered the phone from Cingular on Tuesday and received it on Wednesday. Not even 24 hours. There are a ton of features and I probably won't use them all but it looks like a great phone.

  • the battery ;ife kinda sucks, can u buy stronger batteries

  • This phone doesn't support 2GB microSD cards yet. It only supports 1GB for now. Maybe when a new firmware is out it may allow 2GB cards.

  • i have this phone but some how the screen has a black spot on it that wont come off. i havent had this for for more than 4 months and was wondering is it still under warrenty to get a new one?

  • I've had this phone for several months now and love it. The only thing i do not like is the inability to turn off the ascending ringtone. I just recently got a 2gb Sandisk MicroSD card for it, but it keeps telling me that the card is not ready when i try to access it on the phone. I have a ton of MP3's loaded to the disk already, so i know the card is functional. Is there something i need to do?

  • Anybody know how to fix LG Desktop 3.0 not liking "." in email adresses e.g. between fred and bloggs in "[email protected]". Imports from Outlook OK but after any editing says email address invalid and won't accept edited contact.

  • I just got this phone about a week and a half ago... it's amazing! I love it. Very fun, bright screen, awesome photos... the only thing I'm a little dubious of is how, when the phone is shut, it wiggles a little - but I guess that's completely normal, because if it didn't, the hinges would be too tight and it wouldn't flip well (so I'm told). This phone has amazing downloading speeds - my cousin has a Samsung (also from Cingular) and it doesn't have 3G speed... when she downloaded a ringtone, I was amazed at how long it took her phone. Needless to say, I love this phone! No problems so far whatsoever. Yes, the ascending ring can get annoying, but if you put the volume on say, 3, it limits it to a certian extent (at least from what I noticed). The sound is also amazing! Very, very clear... the only thing I am bugged as it that the USB cable is only compatible with Windows.

  • I have this phone and find it quite good to use. I do not have a memory card so use the memory on the phone. I have installed the software for the phone but i cannot send data from the computer to the phone or even see the phone but the computer picks up the phone through usb. Anyone ?

  • Does this phone have zoom?

  • where do i plug the USB cable into?

  • can this phone play 3gp movies?

  • No the phone does not come with a data cable. Yes, you can use mp3's as ringtones. I just got this phone for christmas and I love it. It's simple to use yet it has many options.

  • Can this phone have MP3 ringtones or is it only capable to have those intrumental ringtones?

  • Hey i ordered my LG CU500 today from cingular and i want to kno if the USB cable will come with it?

  • Thong, use a sandisk card and you won't have a problem, some brands have issues reading in these phones

  • Mines says card not ready too. I got the link to work.

  • Help. I have a LG CU500. And I need that software but the link doesn't work does somebody else have another link. I have the USB cable and the 1gb microsd card. I even have a transflash card but it still doesn't work. If anyone has the software or a link to it I would totally appreciate it.

  • bought a Kingston microsd 1gb. Used a computer to transfer music to it, put it in LG Cu500 but the phone said CARD NOT READY. Helpppppsss

  • A previous poster discussed the need for a data cable and memory card. The card is necessary but instead of buying a cable, spend the 20 bucks and buy a memory card reader. They are 20.00 and can be used for micro, mini and sd through your usb port. No software needed and it works like a flash drive. You can load/unload your pics, videos and music by dropping and dragging in and out of the folders. The best part about this reader is that it works with any phone. You're not stuck with a useless cable when you get new phones down the road.

  • the battery life is rubbish my tu 500 last one to two days not using it and it goes dead ive had two lg tu500 phones thay are rubbish never buy again

  • great phone with unblievable speakers never seen such areat item. small handy packed exallent performance. i love it.

  • need driver for LG CU500

  • Dude who found the software on the aussie site -- YOU ROCK!

  • I bought this phone for my wife and she loves it. love the way CV has all the stuff i need. really comes in handy when i'm at a store and my kids are getting restless i just surf on in and play some cartoon's for them. as far as MP3 i would like to know more on that item

  • i have had this phone for about a month, and i love it! the only problem that i am having is that my CPU will not read the SD memory card that i have in it. when i have the memory card seperate the CPU will read it, but in the phone it will not. i have figured the bluetooth, but that is way too time consuming, and the only other thing in my home that has bluetooth is my dads PDA/CPU. can anyone offer any advice???

  • Found this on the net check it out... What's with cell phone carriers in the U.S.!? LG gives away this software free in the box on every version of the phone in other countries; in Australia it's known as the "TU500" and has video-phone calling (our CU500 has the capability but it's disabled in the firmware because no telco here offers it) Can you BELIEVE they went to all the trouble of making an entire Suite of software for this phone like moto phone tools, and Cingular decides we don't need it? anywho, here's the link to download the software: Download: you'll see the TU500 with pic, and a download link for the software, left-CLICK the link, don't rightclick and save-as, (it's java) it downloads the entire contents of the CD (including drivers and such) Here's what the installer shows you: PC Sync - "LG Desktop" app is for Outlook or Outlook Express syncing (and CSV), also allows you to edit/view Contacts, Calendar, Memo, and Tasks. "LG Sync Manager" (installs with LG Desktop) adds PDA like sync capability, you just plug in the phone (or bluetooth) right click the icon and click Syncronize, and you're always up to date. Very cool little mighty app that has conflict resolution and multiple data overwriting options similar to palm/activesync. Phone Manager "LG Phone Manager" is the FUN and VERY FUNCTIONAL watered down version of LG Desktop, but it's easier and lets you backup and restore the ENTIRE phonebook entries (INCLUDING CONTACT-PHOTOS and custom made avatars in it's little avatar creation app) on the phone and create/edit entries on the PC, a MUST. (you can even do your phone book using pics from your PC and it even helps you crop and resize the pics for the phone's screen!, and then uploads the pics at proper resolution when you do export to phone, it's so cool!!!!!!) Internet Link - internet connection app, but all of it's presets are for EVERY COUNTRY ON THE GLOBE BESIDES THE U.S., so some tweaking will have to be done to get this one to work (most of the *XX# type codes are similar in other countries, and it lets you see what it's doing, shouldn't be too dificult) USB Drivers - yes, USB drivers Manual (for the TU500, same phone but different features) anywho, after you install it, double click the LG Sync Manager app, you'll get a yellow swirly icon in your system tray, right click it and choose "configurations" (good spot to take notice what's in here too) go to communication settings, and choose bluetooth or USB, and pick the port (if it's not already highlighted), and VIOLA! full PC software suite for U.S. LG CU500 owners. I dont' even OWN the USB cable, I'm using a 4 year old Microsoft bluetooth dongle from a keyboard i used to own lol.

  • You can get the software at BESTBUY.

  • If you buy a USB bluetooth dongle you will not need software to send stuff to your phone. Just attach to your USB port and windows will detect it. I did download an MP3 splitter to create MP3 ringtones, split the song to the section you want and save it that way, then send it to your phone. You can also google MA730 which is a software package but i really don't recommend it because you will have to go to their website and download an update to support this phone. It's really up to you though. You will need to set up your phone for bluetooth also, just follow your user guide for this.Once bluetooth is enabled you can send pics, mp3s, etc to your phone, even to friends with bluetooth data capability. Have fun.

  • I have three questions (quick answers pleasse!) -which phone is better-the sync or the cu500? -can mp3s be set as ringtones or text message tones? -can mp3s be transferred to the phone using itunes? thanks

  • where i can get the software

  • You can also use a bluetooth dongle an attach it to your USB port, this will enable you to send MP3, pictures, etc, to your phone. All you have to do is set it up through you PC. It's cool. You will need a microSD card to store music. I bought mine online for 20 bucks, i also downloaded an MP3 splitter to create ringtones, for free. There's lots of cool features, you can attach earphone to use it as an MP3 player. Hope this helps, this phone is awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • To put music on your phone, go to the store and get this... SD Micro it is a small chip (about the size of a fingernail) that fits in behind your battery in a slot, its in the upper part of your cell. You can find this chip at most home electronic stores (best buy, comp usa, etc) you will also need the accessory pack that has he usb hookup for the cell phone... They don't make it easy or cheap, but that is how to do it without doing the phone dial up downloads and paying all the time.

  • I have a question not a comment. Does this phone have voice activation to make calls? The LG phones that I've had in the past had this feature. Can't find it with this model

  • i would like to know how you puit music on your phone?? my e-mail is [email protected]

  • how do put music on your phone??

  • what is a mircoSD or what ever i plug the phone into the computer and copy andpaste songs into the folder. On my phone if i go into memory card the songs are there but no where else. How can I the songs into the music player?

  • I have had a LG CU500 for a month, ( got it free at Cingular). The sales guy actually pounded on his open phone with his fist as a demo and it sold me. The phone works great overall. It takes nice pictures, sounds good, easy to use, no dropped calls, ( better by far than my old Motorola V160). What really impressed me is the battery life, I have only had to recharge a few times, even with heavy picture use. Overall, a definite good phone, especially for free!

  • I have had the CU500 for over a month now, to all the morons thinking it doesn't get recognized by their computer. You have to have the micro SD card for it to be read by the computer. As far as using the voice recorder for a ringtone, no that isn't an option unless you download a plug-in to convert amr to mp3. The sound, quality of service has been great and I strongly recommend getting a new 3g sim card if you are having dropped call issues. Otherwise it's an overall great phone.

  • can anyone tell me if this phone can record new ringtones??? or can you set songs from the mp3 player as ringtones or do you have to buy them???

  • i never liked lg phones, but this one is alright.just dont buy the phone carriers sd memory card.you can buy it at office depot or circuit city for 30.00 bucks.get a memory card reader.stick it in your usb.drag n drop your mp3s.also go to cnet downloads.download for free plato video to 3gp converter.this will turn all your videos to 3gp.then drag n drop.

  • Does any one know if we can set the phone to connect only to the GSM network without trying to connect to the UMTS netwrok ?? If yes then this should help to solve the drop call issue !!!!!

  • can anyone help me figure out how to get mp3's on my cu500? i followed the instructions, but it doesn't recognize the phone. i tried to put music on through media player, itunes, quicktime, etc. but it won't work. can anyone help???

  • this i sthe wors t phone i ever bought i cant even get to downloadmusic on it from my pc.u cant even a driver 4 it i can even get my internet to work on the phone.it just crap.

  • The LG CU500 is a wonderful phone. If you want a phone, MP3 player, 1.3mp Camera and Video recorder phone. I have been able to unlock mine through Cingular so I use it on T-Mobile (works great on that one too). To all the call droppers out there,... Upgrade your SIM to the 3G card. Highly Recommend for a second "going out" phone (since I use a HTC TyTN PDA Phone). Great battery, great volume, great MP3 player. Recommend getting the VX600 USB cable to go with it and MicroSD card up to 1GB. Overall really a good phone.

  • Nice looking phone and music sound good but not software so good luck if you tried to put music or pictures on it.. I have a lot of drop calls since I have the LG-cu500 Not recommended at all. Cingular people said that you don't need a software just plug in to the PC ....NOT TRUE ... I have tried in three different PC and they do not recognize the phone. LG cu500 a very bad choice

  • I seem to drop calls often as well. I've had it for 5 days.

  • Horrible software issues... always having dropped calls with this phone. It's very unfortunate, I love how this phone has every feature possible and the fact that it runs on the 3G network blows my mind. I would wait for a software upgrade than reconsider. For now i'm returning it and useing my spare Nokia 6102i.

  • can you record your own ringtones because i keep on hearing other stuff about this phone so can somebody please tell me if you can because bi'm about to get this phone

  • MP3's are easy. Buy a micro SD card (1Gb b/c there is apparently some issues w/ 2 Gb) Then just transfer the MP3 from your computer to the micro SD card. Put it in the phone then follow the regular instructions.

  • how do you transfer your things you've recorded to be become a ringtone, it says it can't do it

  • All of these wonderful phones LG, Samsung, Motorola, ad Nokia have to offer, only to have a 1.3 megapixel camera. This is the next generation in technology, it should be a minumum of 2Mp, 3Mp at most. Otherwise, everthing is O.K.

  • Cingular Video operates even if you are in EDGE. The only difference between running it in UMTS and EDGE is that with EDGE it has to buffer every now and then. UMTS just makes it smooth.

  • i love this phone its alwsome but i cant figure out the mp3 part i want to put songs on it so if someone could tell me how i can do that id appricaiate it!

  • Someone mentioned that Cingular video will not work without UMTS. This is not true. CV will fall back to EDGE when UMTS is not available. Verizon on the other hand does not offer V-cast without having full EVDO.

  • Hi everyone I have this phone on cingular network and i'll say is the best lg i ever tryed, battery runs for like 45 when am ussing the cingular video, the speakers sounds like they gonna crack with the max volume. Display is 65k. should be higher. By the way i get better reception on 3g here in Miami than gsm signal. Overall is decent phone compare with the price. I'll recomend it.

  • I got how to set mp3 for ringtones. when the mp3 ringtones in computer must fill full all the properties infomation.then send to you CU500 and set to ringtone.

  • Anyone experiencing short battery life...under 30 mins talk time....

  • other then trouble assigning individual ringtones, i have to say this is a really solid phone. havent had a chance to mess with the umts (no it isnt hsdpa) but the mobi tv is pretty fun to use. i am really impressed with the speaker quality compared to my w810. i dont really like LGs UI but other then that i have toadmit there isnt too much to complain about with this model. other then a blackberry, it si the only phone (other then the w810) in my cingular store i can strongly recomond right now. good buy imo.

  • well my dad got this phone about 3 weeks ago and at first i thought the features are pretty decent but the only problem i don't like about this phone is that you can't set Mp3 as a ringtone except if it is less then 20 seconds which really sucks! =( but other then that the quility is pretty good.

  • Quite possibly the most solid GSM-family device LG has released in quite some time...the only issue I've seen with it is the battery life, not quite up to par with other phones I usually work with, especially when moving back and forth between a GSM and UMTS coverage area. Calls and data services work very well in either, although there is a bit of an issue carrying a call/session from GSM into UMTS, the handoffs there haven't been worked out real well, but something to work on here in the States.

  • Can u record your own ringtones . and how? i put it as ringtone and it says content not avelable

  • Can you talk on the speaker phone function on this phone with the phone in complete closed phone form.

  • I got a LG CU500 6 weeks ago. The phone its great and its easy use my music like ring tones (When you know how to do it), but Ive had seen that the phone has serious problem with 3G signal. The system its new from Cingular and when my phone gets this signal in some areas its almost impossible make a call or receive it. Sometimes the system says "the number has you been dialed is not a working number" Last week I spend more than 1 hour with Cingular technical department to see what is the problem. I hope my friends you are not having this kind of problems with your phones.

  • Does anyone know of any known bugs on the LG CU500 cell phone? I love mine all except it drops calss frequently. I'm going to go back to Cingular and see if it is just my phone or common to this model. I know it's a device problem because I've had Cingular for years and never had this problem until I bought th LG phone...

  • i just bought phone but i can't change ring tone to file wma or mp3 it show me the file is big.

  • looks pretty good for me but i wonder why a such of advanced tech. like hsdpa phone only have a 65k resollution screen while any other network even in a lower standart offers handsets with 265k screens

  • I just bought this phone and was extremely happy with it until I tried to assign the individual ringtones I downloaded and paid for, to each of my three sons. I have always had a seperate ring tone for each son and am now extremely disappointed that even though it is an advertised feature of the phone it doesnt work. Has anyone else had this problem? I have spent HOURS on the phone with Cingular trying to get this fixed and no one seems to be able to help me.

  • I have had great luck with reception on this phone. I think that phones like anything you buy have lemons among them. I have never lost reception even in places my old nokia phone would.

  • hey does anyone know if there is any way that i can see if a person has read a text message or not? email me if you do. [email protected]. thank you!

  • i agree, tacky version of the 510

  • I am getting this phone as a replacement for my Motorola Razr....how will it compare in the features? Will i like it?

  • Does anyone know how to sync up outlook contacts and calendar with the one the phone? Also, does it need any software to be used as a modem via mini-usb cable? I welcome replies directly to my email address: sendmail0 (at) gmail.com Thanks

  • this phone is a crappier version of the samsung Z510.. does anyone agree with me?

  • I just read that someone returned the phone because they had a signal problem. I am having the same problem. I can't get through a conversation without my call being dropped. I guess I am going to have to return it.

  • This phone will be in Australia in November at launch of Telstras new national 3G-850 network

  • to Cingular rep: I just returned this phone because it had horrible reception with Cingular. I thought it was a problem with Cingular, but it turned out to be the phone. It kept dropping calls and cutting off in the middle. The phone is great otherwise, the features are great and offers things that other phones don't. Will it get better?? or just return it.

  • I have had the phone for 4 days and I like it. The RAZR V3 should have been released with UMTS/HSDPA. And the phone seems more more durable than the V3. I have the V3,V3x, and the TREO650. I think that the LG is 2nd after the V3x. Most LG's are not that good the LG CU500 is the best phone and it looks like they invested time and money in the design.A memory card should be included with the phone, the V3x came with 128MB card. But accessories I'm sure make alot of $$ for phone companies and carriers ..........

  • oh thanks woofter! im buying it. this is going to be my first flip phone, and my first non-NOKIA phone ever. i hope i wont regret it.

  • Just got this phone....Love It!!! MP3 rongtones no problem... I got it offline through Cingular even though there is no 3G area around...or u can call sales! Music Player is the Best! If you get a Micro SD Card for it (recommended) do NOT get a kingston... READ howardforums.com and you can see there is a problem with 2GB AND any kingston memory card!! Also you can send txt and other things while listening to the music... also get a pair of Bluetooth Stereo Headsets to listen to music wirelessly.

  • Yeah you can use mp3s as ringtones but it cant be the full size songs. the phone will tell you its too large. but most of my mp3s for ringtones are under 500kb. hope that helps

  • this is my latest cellphone crush, i want to buy it, but i wannna know if you can use mp3 as a ringtone on this phone..anyone can supply me the info?

  • E-bay has a lot of data cables for cu500... How did u get this phone with Cingular??? I live in Florida...none a chance yet to get it... Enjoy u're phone

  • Hold down the * key (it should have a little shaking phone icon) to turn vibe mode on or off.

  • this phone is the best phone EVER!!!!!

  • My phone didn't come with a usb or data cord to hookup to computer. Purchased from a Cingular store. Visited a few stores and attempted to purchase from web. Where can I get one?

  • This phone can vibrate without the ringtone. Just go in the function volume for ring tone and arrown down to where the phone just vibrates. LG did a good job with this phone, they just need to tighten the phone when unflip.

  • does video telphoney work on it i live in nyc and we have 3g up and runnining will it work here

  • Nice phone, short battery life, too short,no seperate vibration selection for alert everything has a ring to it....now how great is that...all three alerts has RING

  • does this phoone have mp3 ringtones? some say they do but some dont o.O

  • Hi yall, ok good point on the fact that LG made a phone that even though works amazing and has very little bugs its still rather poor in features or not as advance as other models coming out. Here is the reason... If you get a 3G phone is usually if you wanna use 3G services which we charge (NOW YOU MUST HAVE IT IF YOU WANT TO EVEN ACCESS THE CV FEATURE) the feature is 19.99 a month so how many people can afford to pay and extra $20 bucks on their bill? not many? so why make a phone that will cost 300 bucks? and then cost you 20 bucks to service a month? this is where lG has gone with it and were all manufactures go toward when making phones for the USA. 3G is new here and we want people on it, this phone just works and it was everything you might want on it, yes the features that it has are not the most advanced version IE the 1.3 mpx cam but for example going up to the now current 3mp cam will bump up the phone at least 100 more dollards so all and all this was a good choice, if this phones keeps working the way it is then LG has a winner in the USA market end of story...

  • According to Cingular this phone is a dual-mode HSDPA handset, 850Mhz-1900Mhz. Very nice, this will definatelly be available on Telstra!!! New UMTS 850 network to be released in October 2006!!! Harlekkin

  • can you use mp3 as ringtones?

  • My problems with the lg cu500 are 1.you can't choose what phonebook to use the phone memory or simcard it shows both. 2. There is no security option for the phone to lock itself. So you have to enter a lock code after a certain amount of minutes. 3. Cant turn off voicemail notification or command notification without turning off all ring volume. 4. Sim code request when the phone reboots it does not work, it says invalid smart chip

  • I have used 9 gsm flip/slider phones in the past year, and this one is the keeper. if you didn't buy this phone for the 3G capability then please dont post a negative review. if you dont live in a test market, then you might consider a different model if you want more toys. This phone is excellent. excellent mic/speaker, full-duplex speakerphone is great. FAST. In cingular's Phoenix test market when using this phone as a modem, i was downloading at over 1,000kbps. The only problems i found with this phone are that the usb connection is non-standard(not mini usb), so you must purchase this cable. also, the wap browser does not allow frames, but browsing other sites is silly fast. oh yeah, the mp3 player and loudspeaker is a winner, but its not why i love this phone. i love this phone for the voice clarity(thank you hsdpa)and the speed(hsdpa). i hope this helps.

  • @ Unknown =========== HSDPA (3.5G): Evolution of WCDMA, capable of 1.8 - 3.6Mbps (225 KB/s - 450 KB/s) WCDMA (3G): Wideband CDMA, speeds of 64 - 384kbps (8KB/s - 48KB/s) FPS: Frames Per Second; Regular mobile movies are capable of playing 15fps. Advanced movies for mobile devices can play 29.5FPS. QVGA: 320 x 240 px. A common measurement for screen and movie resolutions. It is 1/4 of a VGA (640 x 480) resolution. Hope this helps! Harlekkin

  • This is one of the best phones i have ever owned on the cingular network, I own a Nokia 6270, and when it came back from warranty repair i still couldnt go back to it, the Cu500 has extraordinary reception and is the first true 3g handset on Cingulars Network with hspda. The phone comes with the Shazam music id software built into the phone which eliminates the dialing of numbers to id a song. What that means is the phone can identify the song name and the artist by activating it and putting the phone near the source of music. this phone helped me ID a song that i was trying to find for ten years off of a techno mix i had, for music enthusiasts this phone is a must. I dont like that it is not how swappable with the transflash and i dont like the fact that you cannot assign an mp3 for incoming text messages, other that that i love this phone and believe that LG has released a V3I killer in the US market.

  • EXTRA look.... yeah right! Look awful, but everything else is great... looks so :/ UGLY.... I wouldn't buy this it way big... pozz

  • hope i could get some help, i happened to realise this hp's 3G (HSDPA) speed is different from other HSDPA phones. Is it true to say that the speed is different among different phone models? another thing i would like advise on is the phone's video recording capabilities, what is QVGA quality? I've heard that video quality relies on something called FPS?? Would appreciate all e help i can get. Sorry as i'm really clueless about this

  • this phone is a rip-off from the samsung Z540. Only the design is more ugly than the other phone is.

  • these type of lg phones seem to being going sideways rather than forward why only 1.3mp camera without flash,no radio and exact the same in looks as u880 and u890 the u400 is a totally different look to the sliding phones that are clogging up the market, maybe they could of done something different to the flip market alas not with this one though.

  • The LG 3G/HSDPA series has always kicked a** over the Moto RAZR. They are extremely well designed, though the specs are fairly low. It took them only ages to integrate a card slot... Well done though, HSDPA here we come! Harlekkin

  • I got this phone when I was away on vacation. So far I have had no problems with it. The volume is loud (which I like, you don't have to set the volume all the way up. The camera in my opinion is clear when it come to picture taking (eventhough I don't use it that much). For someone who is a gadget freak, I like this phone better than my old Razr. LG did a good job with this phone.

  • Well finally LG have brought out a flip phone that isn't bulky. But they have really let me down with a 1.3 mp camera, i won't be getting this phone. It's basically a phone they bought out a year ago, but thinner.
