Great phone. Had it for 3 years until I got my Xperia Ray a while back. The physical design is just amazing. The glossy front is nice and though most people probably don't notice it, it has such a unique glittery back (at least for the white one I had). It had excellent battery life when I first got it. Lasts like a week before it needs recharging. The music player is really nice, especially for its time. The phone's main feature is its camera. Its a decent camera. The quality of the photos varies a lot. Some are excellent, while others are far off. Videos were pretty good for its time. Its resolution was outstanding, though it had annoying glitches that render the D1 videos useless. I just had to come back after many years and give it the praise it deserves. Design 10/10 Phone 8/10 Sound 9/10 Screen 8/10 Functionality 6/10 Photo Camera 9/10 Video Camera 6/10

I had it for two years now. I had problems, it hanged up when it was trying to save a photo, or reading the external memory card, after a while I can't see the files saved on it or even open the memory card, I still trying to find the reason, I think it's because if the memory is full at approx 70% of it's capacity, the phone wouldn't read all the information so it will fail. I had to restart ir two times before it worked well. But, instead of this, and instead of its very slow processes, i'm happy with it. It had fallen down like ten times and there's nothing wrong, still working. The camera is the best I've ever seen on a phone. The sound is good, but at very loud level it sounds awful. Of course, you'll not use it as a sound system all time, but when the phone rings this is a problem. You have to put it backwards to hear it well (most of cellphones have this problem). And, the keyboard, after long use, brokes up. Like in my old LG MG250, they have very good keyboards but they are a unique part, not separated buttons, so it craks mostly on 2 and 5 (the letters that spanish language use the most). I still saying, this was a cheap cell, but I am really happy with it, it is the best I had, since Motorola C115 ;)

i am currently using this and have done for a long time. its generally prity good. the camera is good flash works well but doesn't handle well without the flash; the music is't bad. although i do have a glitch were when a song finishes, the phone restarts. the internet is slow and fiddly but usable. some of the features are glitchy some times, such as every time i make a txt its asks me if i want a multi media text, which wastes time and there is no way of turning it of. Something that i didn't like was if you send or get to meany txts you cant send a txt and the limit is not very big the designe is prity solid, with loads of metal also with a good sizes screen when in the camera mode the buttons change as they lite up with camera features, which is a kl feature the email is not very nice to use, the setup needs both incoming and outgoing which isn't always easy to get and getting social working isn't very nice the radio in nice but you have to use headphones installing games is prity simle. the blue tooth is response and accessible taking photo's of is prity simple and the photo's look reasonable too, printable on a4 although tethering doesn't always work the movement censer is responsive but isnt used enough and is a bit gimmicky so overall i am using this phone currently but i am unhappy with some of the features, but still us it as thats what i have

I have had the LG KC550 for a considerable time and I have to say that it given me NO problems whatsoever. Battery life is good, the camera is ok and I've been more than pleased with it considering what I paid for it. Now looking to upgrade to a Smart phone, but I'll keep my trusty KC550 as a standby.

hi. currently im having a problem with my lg kc550. after i try to install some java games it just switched off. now when i turn it on it only displays the blue logo and goes on and off again and again. How to do a hard reset with this phone?? Coz my phone keep restarting all the time after I install some java apps :( when switch on the display only shows KC550 logo (blue circle) and then goes black and the logo shows again then black again on and on and on....never goes to standby mode. I wish I had never bought this phone. I'd suggest that everybody else avoid it like plague! The phone recently has started to turn itself on and off at random. Although, more often than not, this tends to be when I have to make important phone calls. It has stopped showing my sms message top line priviews in the inbox menu. If I want to find a specific text message, I now have to try and remember when it arrived or risk having to search through them all! Yet, these issues can almost be forgiven when compared to the truly awful speaker it has. It distorts everything, causing me to have to ask whoever I am speaking to to repeat themselves constantly. It completely renders it's advertised mp3 player status as laughable, if not fraudulent. Listen to anything above a tiny volume, even through headphones, and the result is a fuzzed up unlistenable mush.

I really wanted this phone but I really wish I had never got it. It does nothing right, takes ages to do anything and there are constant problems with connectivity. I confirm what a previous poster said about it just deciding to take pictures or make calls on its own. Compared to a standard Nokia it is almost disfunctional, I always receive messages late and the main connection port stopped working after only 6 months, after a year there was no connection at all and beware, LG offer no help whatsoever. Dont get an lg phone!

Recently, my LG KC550 has not been itself. I dies within a day when it used to last 3. It takes pictures by itself without me pressing the buttons. It doesn't react immediately when I want it to. Sometimes I have to press a button twice or three times in order for the phone to finally realize that I want it to do something.

Man! this phone Rocks! i think it's the only cell phone that has 6 or 7 fonts that can be changed.u can also increase the size of fonts! camera is awesome.Screen resolution is magnificent.much better than crap N73. the only problem is installing Java. it will take about 5 to 10 minutes 2 install sth on it. but anyways. this phone is cool.The real shape of the phone is much more beautiful than what u see in the photos. I think im taking KC550 for granted. I've had this phone for a year and a half now. It's pretty good in battery life when I charge it over night and use it the next day to listen to music while studying for 6 hours. The battery bar will still appear to be 3 bars. I like how I can transfer anything basically onto this phone by the micro SD card. It's a pretty good phone in my opinion, the only thing I dislike about it is that.. it's going to get bad reception in basements and underground tunnels due to its triband network.

In Connectivity/USB Connection set phone to Mass Storage then connect to PC with the USB cable, . The phone will appear on your desk top(on a mac) as a USB drive ( or on a PC you have to look for it in My Computer) and you can drag and drop to and fro folders in the drive. If you have an external micro SD installed in the phone it will show up as a separate drive on your desktop. or If you have Bluetooth on your PC set up a Bluetooth connection to your PC and you can transfer to or from any folder in "My Stuff" (Images,Sounds,Videos,Documents or Others)

just dont buy it! the camera aint 5mp the resolution is fake. the battery life is poor. key board is is reallt hard to use. its too slow. it cant play WMA files clearly if u play a wma file u will hear a perfect noise! the intenal memory is only 13 mb and u cant recive file larger than that and u cant change the storage memory from phone memory to external memory. the pc suite is sucks! but the lcd quality is really good better than nokia n95.

If it's a French Keyboard (Clavier) you want then I guess you must send it to LG to physically change it. If you simply want it use the phone in the French language go to Settings/ 2 Languages/8 Francais

I NEED URGENT HELP!

Ok, last night i put my KC550 on charge and i turned it on after about an hour so i could see if i had new messages. But it took ages to load up and when it finally did i had two weird looking symbols above where it says contacts no the main screen, they are still there now. It is fully charged and now is running very slow, the screen goes black by itself and it doesnt react to being slid up/down. PLEASE HELP! I cant live without my phone!

i've been using this phone for almost 9 months and it sucks! please don't buy it. It's hopeless, so slow that you want to take a hammer and break it into pieces! c button often doesn't work too.. - but camera is just excellent and so does the screen.

Provided the card is 4Mb or less, I can only suggest you haven't put the card in correctly or pushed it in far enough.

better value for taking outdoor photos. memory slot is not firm to hold the memory card.this is the only problem i encountered because you have to re insert the card very often. this is a technical fault in all its kind. if you use the external memory a lot don't go for this phone. but all the other features are good,nothing to worry about the battery.

It should work if your music is in Mp3 format. Did you format your memory card? As the specifications say, it supports Mp3, AAC, AAC+, WMA. It also supports Midi.

The video recording capabilities are as follows: QCIF @ 15fps, QVGA @ 15fps, VGA @ 15fps, and WGA(D1) @ 30fps. The video is actually quite good @ D1. Good resolution and frame rate. However, there are "occasional" frame freezes and glitches in the video. I put quotations to emphasize the fact that it doesnt happen often, but dont expect it to record like camcorders. In my opinion, the video recording is really good.

by low frame rate, your refering to 30fps at 720x480? or do u mean it cant record at 120fps at QVGA? Name me a model with that resolution and higher frame rate.

It's D1 video actually, but it is not abot the resolution it is about quality wich is catastrophic due to low frame rate of camera. Read (i must repeat) review here on GSM Arena. My seller told me that i should record non-moving objects and i will achieve much better results! Well, purpose of video is not to shoot buildings and flowers but people, kids and animals.

I agree it is cheap, but there is no 3G, no touchscreen so why should it be expensive? Pictures ARE NOT SHARP, just compare them with Nokia 6280 or Samsung U600, they make much better pictures and they are 2 and 3.2MP! It's not the metter of money, if you say 5 it must be 5. Every photo i must re-do at home in windows photo menager increasing contrast to the maximum. Read Expert review here on GSM Arena, they agree with me. And there is no bootleg KC550 -they are all Made in China.

You don't know what your talking about. The photos ARE sharp. Look up 5mp phone comparisons and look at the pictures each one takes. No where on the manual or the box does it say HD video recording. Its displaying 20x of the same frame, u sure u talking about the kc550? You sure the one u have isnt a bootleg?

Experts found that LG is deceiving people over the world with false propaganda about first HD video in 30fps speed. In fact it is reapeting the one same frame for 20 time, so only 10frames are real. That's why kc550 video is full of noise and small cubes allround! And photos are not much better too. Blurry, not sharp as 5mp sould be, camera is freezing all the time so you got to remove the battery, and.. cameraphone which cannot turn off the shutter sound? A joke!

You should be able to both scroll down the msg and scroll down from msg to msg in the inbox by using the bottom of the centre joy stick control switch. Can you scroll up the msgs in the inbox? While when you select the Inbox it highlights the latest msg so logically you would want to scroll down but if you scroll up it should take you to the msg at the bottom of the list, then up the list. If you can do that are you sure the joy stick control bottom switch is working?

Hi! Can anyone tell me why I can't a) find a way to scroll down to the end of a text message and b) find a way to move from one Inbox message to another? I've been using mobiles for years but this one has me stumped! The comment on the inside cover of the manual suggests that the contents might not be accurate, depending on the phone's software or the service provider so there's no help there! You sound like a happy bunny with your new phone Some feed back for you... you say "FM Radio: i don't get why you have to use the headphone set first in order to hear it loudly on the speakers." ............That's because the antenna is in the headphone lead so you get very poor radio reception if the LG headphone lead is not plugged in. "Sucks that the headphone jack is the thin kind, not the round ones. So im forced to use the ones LG provides. "..........You can buy adaptors from Ebay for around �1 which will convert from the LG special plug to 3.5mm Jack Plug so you can use any headset you choose. It will only work for MP3 and Phone calls ( as it doesn't have the antenna connectors for Radio and Video out needs extra connections) "World clock is useless, but sometimes i want to know what time it is around the world. haha :)"......... Yes and it's also inaccurate for 6 months of the year as there is no facility to adjust for 'Daylight saving British summer time)

I haven't gone through the whole details of this phone yet.. i still need to get a sd card. :) Anyway... Design: I'd say it's a pretty average phone size. I like the "sliding" of the phone, it's not stiff or weak, it's pretty sturdy. It's not super thin and not too bulky. This phone looks simple to me. Not too many buttons that ruin the sleekness of the 550. The pink color is nice for the girls out there. (I'm a teen by the way) I noticed that the pink wasn't all the way pink. it had a purplish tint to it. but it doesnt really matter to you guys but i just really hate purple. haha okay but it's still pink. It looks exactly like the advertisment pictures the LG company provides. Turn it around and you have a camera! One thing i really like is that the camera is not placed on the sliding part of the phone. Do you know what i mean? its placed directly on the back of the phone. Thats really cool. and it's protected by the slidy thing. also on the back is the speaker.(for the music) Kind of weird to me. So if i want to hear music on the speaker, i'd have to turn my phone around to hear it clearer! Wouldn't it make more sense if the speaker was on the top or side of the phone? hmm? i dont know. ALSO: it has the keystrap hole on the top right of the phone! :D Display: It's really plain.(for the girls maybe) 2 themes already in the phone. Black 3d and Black line. BUT why all black! Where is the color! Im going to download some themes on to this phone to bring some life to it. Screen size is average some say. but its pretty big compared to my old phone! the auto-rotate is cool. Menu icludes: 1.Games and apps... M-toys,games 2.Call history 3.Organizer... calender,memo 4.Multimedia... MP3player,video/camera,FM radio,etc 5.Messaging 6.My Stuff... images,sounds,videos,documents 7.Profiles... silent/vibrate/headset/etc options 8.Contacts 9.Tools... alarm clock,calculator,stopwatch,unitconverter,world clock 10.Browser... Internet 11.Connectivity...bluetooth,network,USB,TVout 12.Settings... languages/dislpay/etc options Sound: Is really good. the headphones are good too. Sucks that the headphone jack is the thin kind, not the round ones. So im forced to use the ones LG provides. Camera: If you know how to use the features properly, then your pictures will be clear. and trust me it is clear! It has lots of options too. It's kinda like a real camera. You hold it horizontally and the camera button is located on the top like a real camera. I find it easier if you press the middle button on the front of the phone. Seems like the camera uses alot of power. So your power bar may go down in just 5-30 mins of camera use. Bad if your going-out cause you waste your powerbar, and then you end up with no power to phone anyone. Sometimes when i activate the camera mode, by sliding the protector thing, nothing happens. So i have to redo that whole process of resliding it. and then it works like normal again. OH, and the camera noise when you take the picture is ANNOYING to me. For the teens, when you're going snap a picture in class, or somewhere quite, there is no options to shut of the shutter noise. SO stupid. unless you like the noise, it's loud too. im not 100% sure if there is somehow to turn off the noise. Video: Okay i just took a video right now. Its best if you go in a well lit area. the video is alright. Keypad: The keypad is flat not button-like. If your nails are long, then it's like 0.1% that it'll bother you. Not even noticable though. Keypad is good! Gaming: is pretty cool. Mtoys gets really boring when you play it too much. Games like darts,baseball,magic 8 ball, hammer throw, maze and fishing. It's sorta like playing with a cheap version of the Wii. Becareful not to throw your phone! You can download games too, i havent done that yet. It comes with 2 games, Extreme skateboard and mini game world. MP3: Like i said, i still need a sd card. But im pretty sure everything is good. its like a usb, drag and drop, copy and paste things onto the sd card, into the usb cord, and onto your phone! There's also shuffle,repeat,equalizer options. ALSO, you can hear music while scrolling through your menus too. FM Radio: i don't get why you have to use the headphone set first in order to hear it loudly on the speakers. Pretty dumb. Oh and you can't listen to radio as background music while scrolling through menus. but the MP3 can. Thats dumb also. The radio staions are clear. Voice Recorder: i dont care really much for this, haven't used it yet. Battery Life: Is really really good! if you don't use the camera often. Intresting things: -You can input your own T9 words! cool feature my other phone did not have. -YES it has T9. -Has emoticons for texting. -World clock is useless, but sometimes i want to know what time it is around the world. haha :) -Muvee Studio is intresting, although i wish there were more options -Backlight timer options 10-60sec -The home screen shortcut -Font sizes for menu dialing and msging! -You can change the main font -dialing font style- newspring,lawn,sketchbook -Standby text is a neat feature -5MP camera Overall rating 10/10 - my opinion ;)

to KERRON: re using external memory as default. for photos, turn on camera, press options, choose * key to select save to external memory. all photos will now save to sd card. for ,music, attach fone to pc via usb cable, two new removable drives will appear on "my computer" larger of two is sd card there is a music folder on that drive, open the music folder and create a new folder called "mp3" in it. drag n drop music for the fone into this folder from your pc. all tracks/albums added in this way will show up in the fones media player library. all other file types automatically save to sd. hope that helps.

Primary storage for what function? To store video or camera pictures to sd card open the camera/video, select options then 'save to' then 'external' Then all of your pictures will be stored on the sd card as you take them. If you transfer anything to any 'My Stuff' folder from computer via USB then drag to the external memory icon not the phone icon.(they appear separately on your computer) You cannot transfer direct to external via bluetooth. Contacts, Calendar and Memo can only be stored on the phone

Yep, got it the week it came out, which was more or less exactly a year ago. Haven't had any age related problems with it at all, it still works a charm. The only thing to watch out for is that if you drop it it resets the memory card, meaning the card needs to be formatted to work again. Dont know why this happens, but it does :/ Also, I still have to bug where I cant record more than 15 seconds off the highest quality film without it starting to judder. Anyone else's orsay do this? Or does anyone have links for a firmware upgrade?

Further to my earlier message re my missing LG KC550, I have found out that my travel insurance will only pay what I paid for the phone in Indonesia which is a lot less than it costs here in Australia. the KC 550 it's a very nice phone and here it goes what i think of it: the camera is the main purpose of this device and for the price 5 MPX are great, obviously it is a cell phone camera and that is what you get. you can achieve nice pictures if you have patience and understand well enough the conditions and the functionality, you need to stand really straight for getting sharp images, also you need to realize the way autofocus works, and of course you will do it better under the sun light. the MP3 it works average, because it doesn't has dedicated keys and the sound quality it's a little worst than any sony walkman you can get, maybe due to the cheap and crappy default headset... the design it's not exactly awesome but it resembles of that. the screen it's perfect, the buttons are cool and if you look it from behind, it looks exactly like a classic pocket camera, really nice. again, for the price it is a great mobile, i got it by 160 US DLRS new. i am happy with it, just need to get the good LG headset for the KC550 that is available as an extra accessory

THis phone sucks, keylock opens it self in pocket and calls my friends and no support from LG to get the pc suite connecting and working or getting the firmware update working, also the mp3 playlist handeling is horrible, you get all files in one long list without folders, no browsing, its a sad pice of phone, wish I had returned it directly aftert I baugth it.

I don't know if its just my LG, but ever since i got it, its been giving me a lot of problems. I got the phone for like $250 and ended up paying $300 because the camera was defected and they charged me to get it fixed not only once, but twice because they did a horrible job fixing it. Also when the battery charges, it doesn't fully charge even if i left it for hours. Overall this is the worse phone i've ever gotten that gave me so much trouble in such a short amount of time.Also im not quite sure why it is so slow either. But my opinion from my experience with this phone, it looks great but doesn't work as well as it looks.

I will put this out there; you never know.... My LG KC550 phone disappeared in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 8th Apr 09. There were photos from my son's wedding as well as many contacts which I have no other record of in the phone. If the person who may have found it can send the photos and contacts via bluetooth to my computer or my new phone (when I get one), I would be most grateful. I am back in Australia and have no intention of following up the disappearance of the phone. I just would really appreciate the above info. Theres no possible way to tranfer the files directly into the micro sd over Bluetooth. If you want to transfer anything larger than 12 mb, buy a Micro SD reader, its about $5. Or you can use the USB cable included with your phone to trasfer files larger than 12mb.

i am unable to get all the contacts into the computer. I have over 500 contacts but only 296 seems to come to the PC. I have tried lots of ways. even have installed the LG PC Suite into a fresh computer and tried. Still same 296 contacts get loaded into the PC. i hav the lg kc550, an my m8 has the lg cookie, it depends if you like touchscreen, go for the cookie, if u like buttons, an its cheaper, go for the kc550, the kc550 is a bit heavy but you get used to it, if i havnt answered your question plz reply back, but for now hope this helps.

Unfortunately any transfer by bluetooth cannot go direct to the external memory. The common internal memory is 14Mb ( that doesn't include memory required for texts,contacts,calendar or memo) so if empty you should be able to transfer a 12Mb file. Otherwise transfer it in two parts and transfer part at a time from internal to external.

Have you switched the flash on? When you are in camera mode is the flash symbol visible in the top left of the screen? Select a flash option by switching on Camera holding in the landscape position and pressing the top of the centre control button.

I have installed the supplied LG software on my pc for this phone but once it connects to the phone many features are lost. The help file states that you can write sms on the computer and send it through the phone. But I have only been able to view messages on the PC, there is no "reply" or "send" options in the software. I got my LG KC550 two days ago. At first I was quite impressed by the features and design. That is, until I installed the software and tried to use that. I read the manual, changed the settings, and still I could not access the MP3 player on the PC. So I phoned LG and spoke to one of their consultants who asked me "Are you running Vista?". Apparently only the LG Renoir has software compatible with Vista. That's pathetic!!! Shouldn't someone tell you this in the spec before you buy!? Long story short - I've sent it back and I'm getting a Sony Ericsson W595 instead. NOT HAPPY!!

When writing a msg press * and the special characters/symbols will be displayed. There are 5 pages of special characters selected by up/down on the central control. Select the one you like by pressing the key shown beside the symbol. Then OK and you will be returned to the message composition.

Not really sure what you've got there. How do you know how much memory is in use and what is free? If you go to 'Settings/"8"Memory Status' you can check Memory in use and free (maybe you are already doing that) and you will see from that that apart from Texts,Contacts,Calendar and Memo the remaining memory is common to be used as you wish in My Stuff. If you've done all that and you still have free memory you cannot use you may consider backing up what you have on the memory card and reformatting the card.

It's reporting the internal memory full. The external memory and internal memory are separate, there is not a seamless flow between them. To store pictures or video taken by the phone on the external memory open the camera/video and select 'options' then '*Save to' and select external memory. Any other 'My Stuff" if transferred by Bluetooth will only go to the internal memory and will quickly become full. You have to transfer to the external memory to create space on the internal by selecting the file then 'Options/File/Move to External If you transfer via USB you can put files directly in 'External Memory' as Internal and External appear separate on your computer.

i am having a problem with the verbatim memory card that came with this package..it is a 1 gb memory stick but shows memory full even when only 650 mb space is filled..and another inquiry is: do each sub folder in 'my stuff' have limited capacity, like 100 mb for images, 200 for videos and so on?..because even when there is more than 500 mb space in my external memory, no more picture/video can be saved as a message shows 'memory full'..i am really confused..help me out on this fellows..

Laura Couldn't say where your problem lies as mine sounds fine with the headphones provided although they are not so comfortable and keep falling out of my ears, could be my ears I guess! You could take the phone back to the shop (as it's brand new) and ask them to check it out for you with some other headphones

I was at a mates gig last night, and two problems arose 1] the camera is scared of the dark. The LED, which normally seems underpowered ended up being too bright for up close images, and the camera just couldnt seem to focus(almost all the pictures are blurry) :[ 2]After about 45 secs of recording, the video messes up;starts pixelating and just generally annoying me. Anyone else had the same problem?

i dont have the same experience as the people who arent happy about the battery. it takes mine about 2 hours to charge from absolutely dead and lasts me about 3-4 days. its the same pretty much as any phone ive had before, if not better. i really luv this phone and im really glad i went for it.

You can use any headphone/headset but the headset socket connection is peculiar to LG so may be difficult to find another. If you buy an adaptor (they have them on Ebay for about 99p + postage) that will convert from the LG connection to a 3.5mm jack plug you can have your pick of headsets available just about anywhere.

Kc550 is a beautiful phone. The camera is great; the shots are clear and not fuzzy. The accelerometer and its games are entertaining, and the mp3 player isn't bad. In fact I think it's great. THe only bad thing I have to say is that it's a fingerprint magnet. I greatly recommend getting this phone~

You cannot change the colour but you can turn the backlight off in Settings/Display/Backlight timer and set to off. It will however also reduce the backlight on the main screen

That's not phone's problem. You hadn't read the manual fully. when you press the half- it makes Auto Focus function works. But when you just press fully- AF dosen't work. How come you never thought about that even you're using Auto Focus camera phone though? Amazing.

battery performance is very poor: spec says standby time is 450h and talktime is 6 hours. this is not true at all - my battery is dead after roughly 6 hours standby only and 10 mins talktime, defeats the object of having a mobile fone as the battery is always low/dead!

I am disappointed with the camera performance in low light condition. There is a lot of noise and colours are reddish. What I don't understand is the fact that the photo looks good after I press the shutter halfway. When I press the shutter completely and take the photo it doesn't look good at all. 1)If you were to download a .gif file to the phone, eg (the first animation), then I can testify that the gif will still be animated when set as the background. There are no themes for the kc550, so it would only be on the standby screen 2)There are four slider tones. Personal tones can not be added. TBQH, as on all phones their cheesy, tacky and useless. Just turn it off as its more likely to annoy those around you than be of any use to you. 3)See 1st post. There are no themes, in the same way that all phones made by lg, samsung and motorola never have themes. The only phones with themes are nokias (and other symbian phones) and SEs (and other flash based UIs)

read pages 57 and 58 in the user manual that come with the phone. it shows you how to do it using the network cable. it proves really easy and a lot faster than bluetooth.

I return! Word of advise people, dont drop the phone. I'm aware how stupid this sounds, but hear me out. When the phone is dropped and the shock impact is hard enough, the phone semi formats the memory card; it still 'exists' but cant be entered and when you go in the memory settings its not their. To fix just fully format the card. And files can only be blutoothed to phone, so impractical if you want to send anything bigger than a couple of songs since the phone only has around 20 mb to keep the cost down. As I've mentioned before, dont use Lg Suite. Its buggy and refuses to work with most operating systems. If using files, just use Windows file explorer. As I always say, if you need any help, ask!

I disappointed with LG KC550... what superior is the screen and the M-toys (fishing)... i have a bad time when receiving files via bluetooth, managing files, personalizing the display... low processor although having the AMD processor, it slows me when messaging (moving from one message to another message takes seconds), slow in loading GIF formatted picture, cannot set 500kb picture as wallpaper (im not sure about the limit allowed to be set as wallpaper), poor macro mode (when i compare the pictures of same object (small plant) i take with my LG KC550, my friend's Nokia E90 and Sony Ericsson K800i in macro mode, the poorest was mine, could not focus at the object while the others could)... only 2 themes, small user and system memory, cannot support many java games, and .............................................

Both, with phone or computer u can play video with sounds. But remember use the correct video player software on your computer, if u play file with 3gp format use like quicktime player, mp4 with total video player or another. Some video player can't produce sounds for mp4 format.

With reference to a the case. Don't buy a case, as I did, with a magnetic fastener as the magnet switches the reed switch fitted to the camera slide so the phone (camera)keeps switching on and off standby in your pocket. If it's only the screen you want to protect there are some good heavy duty stick over screen protectors available on eBay.

Quick update that i can give you on how well the camera works from my recent holiday.... Nightshots:the camera cant really handle shots in the dark with a bright light in(say taking a picture a town at night). the light is too bright (sorry cant explain better, cant think of a technical term. i'll put the images up so that you can see them) Pausing while recording video: Greatly decreases the quality of the video. All pixelated etc and makes the video a pain to watch and as mentioned by others, invest in a case. the screen can easily get scratched from being put in a pocket or a bag with other things as always, ask if you need anything.

It is a very loud phone, mild vibration, but good for me when i am in school so the teacher doesn't hear it, but you can put it onto an "out doors" mode which means it is louder with stronger vibrations. hope this helps.

The camera can only be used in the landscape position, if you take a picture holding the camera in Portrait position then when you view it the accelerometer will always keep turning the picture on its back. In Edit you can rotate the picture 90 degrees but if it was taken in portrait then it simply stretches the picture or if it was taken in landscape it compresses the picture so pretty useless.

Yep, every single carrier has the Mtoy games and the other two java games that come with the phone. If your lucky you might also have a few more.... And the posts about Mac support, dont use Lg suite to add stuff to the phone. It has problems running on every single system except xp (and it's pretty crap on that), so instead use the phone as a mass storage device and just add files using the file brower on your mac

What do you mean not compatible? You can transfer data,photos,music,video to and from a mac. Use the bluetooth connection to transfer in and out of 'My Stuff' or connect using the USB lead, set the phone to Mass Storage in Connectivity/USB connection and you can drag and drop to and fro. If you have an external micro SD Card in it it will show up as a separate drive to the phone memory

What a lot of Phone for the money... the video is brilliant. It has a TV out option (watch video,play games etc on your TV) but you have to order this lead separatley. I would recommend a case for it though, along with a screen protector. Im using a SanDisk 4Gb card with no problems so far. The motion sensitive games are great fun too. Had a SE K800i for the past 18 months, while the LG KC550 is not as feature packed it really is a whole lot of phone for the money. I hope it is as robust as it's predecessor.

My manual says 2GB also so I contacted LG and they say only 2GB is guaranteed but they have tested proprietary brands of 4gb and all have worked. So it would seem if you stick to a well known brand then 4gb will work

This phone is great for the price, the only disappointment is the video recording. I have tested and the results are crappy: - 176�144 @ 15fps @ 3gp - 320x240 @ 15fps @ 3gp - 640x480 @ 15fps @ 3gp - 720x480 @ 15fps @ 3gp Can't understand this, it's not normal at so lower resolutions, so low framerate. This can't be a hardware limitation, should be some software problem, I guess. My KC550 has version 10f and is apparently latest firmware available from LG.

(For anon below )in camera mode, up on the dpad brings up flash options where you can chose between off, auto, always on and 'only when taking shot' and i have 500mb of music and pics and it isnt really that slow. But sometimes it needs a couple of seconds to load up the list, but no lag other than that. Apparently during its creation that was one thing they particularly worked on

Bought this phone on july in France. Good sound, very good video (even with poor light conditions). Very simple and small phone, very cheap. Principal default : very hard to take good photos because they are always wooly (blurry?) and it is impossible to desactivate the sound when you take the picture ! The quality of the construction is not very good and it takes a very long time to turn on the phone.

DAMN!!!! Phone is rejecting memory card(1gb Transcend micro sd) THis has happened twice now and the only option is to completly format the card. Any tech geeks out here know if it is a problem with the card (1 and a half years old, been between d900, n95, sansa e260 and kc 550, plus home pc)or the phone. Never had this problem with d900....

When the video is opened and played in quicktime, click on the 'window' tab at the top and then click on the 'movie inspector'. 'Movie fps' is the number of frames a second. Got this phone yesterday. The battery is still on 3 bars after 24 hours - about 12 of those hours trying out all the functions on the phone including calls/texts, MP3, photo (inc flash)/video, games and connection to PC to transfer files. Does the phone charge while connected via USB? Was left on overnight too. People may have gripes about this phone but it is fine for me. Takes great photos and even at 15fps the video is acceptable.

I got the phone for about 1 week and I really like it, I�d got a SE before and the LG is really easy to get used to, the camera is grat, the videos you can record, too. Just the musik player seems to be cheap, if you want to open Interpret, or Album and you got a lot of musik on your SD-card it tell you something like: wait, loading Information nothing happens, the List doesn�t open. Exapt from that it�s a very god Phone and worth it�s price ore even more. To the other ones, who got more experience whith the phone, I tried to play diffrent sizes of DivX movies on the phone, but it doesn�t work, could somebody help me? 3Gp and mp4 works fine. Sorry for my bad english

Hey guys, been away so havnt been available to help anyone looking at this phone Ive just started making a video to show people round the phone, should be up by monday the battery life is medium, easily outdoes the 'slim-sliders', but no challenge for some of the SE music phones and panasonics. Can only record 30fps at low quality, so honestly unless your doing something really fast, its better to have the higher quality at fewer fps Finally, would it be possible for someone to tell me if the phone needs usb drivers from the disk to connect to a pc. The phone has randomly started to refuse to register on my laptop, and i appear to have lost my LGsuite disk. If someone could send the data off the disk to me i would be very grateful!

I don't use video much but can record in full resolution ok. Not sure about frame rate, will check on pc later. I have never experienced specific text email issues on se phones but i did go through 3 k750's in a year and 5 k800's the following year due to faults in everyday use such as rebooting, switching off, non functioning buttons, joystick failure, non functioning camera cover etc. Then had nokia n73 and n95 which were better but still had little faults. Personal experience tarnishes opinion i guess

Have had this phone for about three weeks now and am seriously impressed. Camera is superb (much better than my wife's Samsung G800 and at least as good if not better than my old N95), media player is good, customisation is excellent and most importantly as a phone it is almost perfect. Texts, emails and calls are all handled perfectly and day to day handling is way above what I've experienced with my previous phones (SEk750i, SEk800i, Nokia N73, Nokia N95). Has some really nice well thought out touches to the interface which make a nice difference. In my humble opinion this phone is an absolute bargain and would have a price tag twice as high if it had one of the other brand names on its casing. I'm not easy to please and don't often post on here but if you have doubts about this phone they'll be banished within the first day of ownership. All I need now is for LG to put all of these nice tweaks and touches into a smartphone so I can also replace my ageing Palm Treo 750 aswell. To the guy / girl with the SEK850... I have not tried a K850 but I have had a K750, K800 and W880 and although I liked the sonys I think I'm now an LG convert which is a big suprise as I bought this because my N95 kept rebooting and I have a mate with a chocolate and another with a shine (and now a secret) who swear by them. Personally if I had a K850 I'd sell it, get this and then spend the weekend in the pub with the money you'll make. And no, I don't work for LG, I'm just made up to actually own a phone that does what it says on the box and not do what it says on the box sometimes when it feels like it and isn't freezing, rebooting or crashing! You decide but I wouldn't swap it for an N95 and �50 cash!! High praise indeed!!

Video are good for a low rang phone like this, but only 3gp and 15 fps meaning blurred and jerky. Definitely will go for Secret

to contradict one of my earlier comments, the phone in fact lasts 3 days if you let the battery go all the way down. Just used it on a school trip to the lakes, so i can put the videos up if you'd like an example...

From the video file sample ball.3gp, the recording is 720x480 but only 3gp (not divx) and only 15fps...Should'nt be divx at 30 fps, the best quality ?

yes it does support TV out. Although the phone does not come supplied with this and you will need to buy the lead separately.

For those who asked questions.... -MP3 player is fine, except cant browse music(eg artists) while listening to a track -Video cant be recorded in the special ways of the secret(me thinks), most likely to keep down costs -Reception is better than my d900 at my house on Vodafone (i live in a bad area, but i seem to be able to pick up calls here now, which i never used to be able to!) -Battery life is fine, I've been listening to the mp3 for at least 1 and a half hours a day, sending text/making calls, playing on m-toy and viewing images, all with the screen at full brightness, and the phone seems to last about 2 days -Shutter sound cant be turned off, but if headphones are in, then it goes through them rather than the speaker( can have 1 of 3) Think thats about it!

Yeah it can do 720x480 video. Just bought an 8gb microsdhc card and it does not work with the phone. A 4gb microsdhc however works fine.

The highest video rec resolution of KC550 is 720x480 (D1). It supports VGA, QVGA and QCIF also.

The only critisism i would give is the fact that when you recieve a text message, it's takes about 2-3 seconds to open rather than instantanious. Otherwise, this phone is absolutely marvelous. Far better than any other phone i've owned. Camera quality is superb and the flash works fantastic. According to LG's website it's a power LED flash rather than a standard LED flash. Well done LG!!! :)

One more note(sorry!) the camera feels just that bit more professional, because when the camera is activated the D-pad lights up with little images for flash, antishake, macro mode and image gallery. Its amazing how little touched like that can really improve how the phone comes across

For all those interested in this phone.... Bought the little gem on day of release in UK(thursday 19th), after 'borrowing' a secret for a day and deciding i couldnt live with the touch sensitive keys, as well as being too impatient to wait for the N85. It has replaced my D900 and i can say that it has done so well. The memory of 25mb(shared) could have been a big let down, but the microSD cards are now so cheap and available that it doesnt really effect the useage(images and vids can be saved directly onto the card) In your hand, the phone's weight is perfect, feeling bulky enough to give a sense of quality, but without ripping your pocket. The metal band and brushed metal lens cover really give the phone an air of style and make it look professional. The attractive and shiny keypad(similar to the chocolate's) can feel a bit uncomfortable, but is reasonable for touch typing. The navigation keys offer good response and are well placed. The camera is perfect, remembering this is a 'budget' phone. The interface is clear and easy to use, and the quality of images and video is great. Though it drops the gimmicks of the Kf750, the camera is exactly the same! THe UI is almost identical to the one on the KG800. Though i found the settings set up confusing(many sound settings have to be changed through 'profiles' rather than 'settings', it is generally easy to navigate and things are where they should be. The phone supports java apps(though not 3D), so map software can be uploaded, as well as games. The M-toy is, shockingly, really good, though can arouse odd looks! The Media player is average, but will suffice(would prefer a custom Equalizer, and the ability to play music while choosing another song) The my stuff file system is mildly irritating, but after changing file names on the memory card, this was fixed. The auto-rotate while viewing images can be hit and miss, as it appears to be dependent on not only if the phone is landscape or portrait, but also the angle at which the screen is relevant to ones body(though sometimes it works a dream :S) Over all, this phone is, in my opinion, fabulous. Its mixture of intelligent cost cuts(no 3G, smaller inbuilt memory) and high class features make it a real alternative to the more expensive phones (like N95,G800)for those who want features without high price. Personally, i would say this phone is perfectly suited to the teenage market, and i would only complaon about the few little niggles i mentioned, and the fact that it can sometimes be a bit slow(but not as slow as the d900, especially when viewing files)

What a fantastic phone. Received it this morning from mobilefun.com. It's loads smaller in the flesh (the pictures make it look like a brick). Packed with features from a top end phone that would normally costs around �300. I would recommend you to buy this. Really smart looking phone, nice one LG.

Hi - I've got the phone - got pre-prod off ebay last week. The phone is replacing my old Samsung D600. I wanted a phone that was compact but had a good camera and mp3 capabilities & was a good value, and hence went for this (as other new phones seem to be a lot taller than they used to be, for big screens i suppose). The phone is pretty good: The build is solid and it has a good weight to it. Easy to hold in the hand and open/close. The phone looks pretty masculine and most people i have shown it to appreciate the design. The camera is pretty good, and the autofocus and IS work a treat. The camcorder capabiltiy is fine as well, same league as most other phones. You have to just slide the lens cover to start the app so you don't have to slide open the phone. The UI is functional and looks good, but it is a tad slow sometimes to respond (e.g. opening an sms). Hopefully newer firmwares wil speed things up. Music capability is good - you can minimise the mps player so it works in the background - there is no 3.5mm socket, so you have to have an adapter for the headphone/power socket it has. The only app that it did not have which i miss is the countdown timer. Otherwise feature set on board is good. The keypad is fine, but a bit too smooth for my liking, i'm sure i'll get used to it though. The accelerometer is interesting - has a few games on board which utilise it, as well as some flash backgrounds. My little cousins loved the feature, not sure i would use it that much though. Java games/apps work well - have loaded a few games on without any problems. 3D games are not supported. Texting is a standard affair - only thing i dislike here is when you press right on the keypad it adds a space instead of jsut moving the cursor right (e.g. if you need to write 2 words directly next to each other you have to press left and then right). Only issue here is the responsivness which i have mentioned above. I havent tried the microsd expansion as i havent received my card from Amazon yet... Overall i would recommend the phone for somebody looking for a decent value compact phone with a good camera. The only con i would say is the sluggishness, but that may only be because i have a pre-prod phone.

do you people actually use 3g for everyday use? the only thing that the iphone can boast about is it's touch UI. u can't even use it's memory for mass storage. and yeah, iphone sucks in making calls as well. which makes it useless as a phone pretty much.

My guess is this phone is primarily intended for 2G markets where operator 3G services are not readily available...

When I just saw the picture, I thought it was a budget phone. The phone is just too boxy. Secondly, it just lost the competition to all cell phones. There is just no HSDPA which you can find in most 5 megapixel phones now.

The optics arent as good as Carl Zeiss but it comes close. This is the type of lens that also Kodak use for there digital camera's (offcourse this is a little less quality) Furhter the phone is good for taking pics, 5 mp, editor... nice work LG
