LG V30S ThinQ - User Reviews

  • An update to version 9 pie is available!

  • If you dont plan to change phone anytime soon, do not upgrade android version. Learned my lesson the hard way.

  • So true am waiting for Android 9.0 still no updates I made a stupid decision by moving to LG next time will move to Samsung devices. I chose this device because am an audiophile but when it comes to updates this phone sucks big time. No more LG never ever again

  • Anyword will this model get Android 9.0 ? GSM arena normal post in the spec sheet the soon to be upgrades. It does not show it on the sheet.

  • Worst Experience in getting software update. Dont want to buy LG products now. WORST!!!!

  • Why did u sell the note9 for this device?

  • I just bought the 254 GB / 6 GB version second hand with mint condition for USD 230. It has: + Hi Fi Quad DAC Sound + 32-bit/192kHz audio + 3,5 mm Jack + Great Video recording + Wide + Ultrawide Camera + Oled Screen + IP 68 Dust/Waterproof + High Res Screen 1440 x 2880 pixels + Gorilla Glass 5 + Always ON Display + Android 8.0 Oreo upgradeable to Android 9.0 Pie + Snapdragon 835 + NFC + Stereo FM radio with RDS + Acceptable Battery Life of 93h gsmarena battery test This phone has almost everything on it and still rocks even in 2019. I sold my Galaxy Note 9 today.

  • where you buy it ?

  • i bout this phone is great and very responsive i love it

  • This phone is the good stuff!

  • Comparatively at the top of the pack, and well beyond Apple's latest!

  • still no tests unfortunately :(

  • I am no longer counting on getting Pie. LG just got around to patching the phone to March 1, 2018; that's a full 6 months behind the current Android patch level for Oreo. Maybe we'll get 9.0 when 10 finally comes to other phones. 8.0.2 works well enough on this phone; I'm more concerned about security. There are lots of great features on the V30S for the price, but LG service/support is disappointing.

  • Will it be getting Android P update?

  • If you can afford to pay all at once, consider purchasing off contract through B&H or another online reseller. The unlocked version will work with the big 4 and most smaller carriers. I got mine for $279 cheaper than what my carrier sell it for. Add in optional drop/spill insurance for half what I'd have paid and it's a real bargain. B&H also has the exclusive matte Moroccan Blue finish; granted color is not a reason to purchase a phone, but it is nice.

  • I recently got the V30S to replace an aging ZTE Axon 7 as it is getting a little temperamental and has accumulated too many security issues. Speaking of issues, FedEx royally screwed up the express delivery and was completely apathetic about it. ...but I digress. The LG phone is only slightly wider and taller than the Axon but has a much bigger screen and is notably lighter. The camera is far superior as well. PROS: -Longer battery life. The battery is at 50-75% when I go to bed compared to 30-60% with the Axon 7 -Brighter, easy to read the screen with balanced color -Excellent cameras, though LG's native camera app isn't that great IMO -Fantastic sound! FLAWLESS with wired headphones -IP68 certified -T-Mobile bands 66 AND 71 -6GB RAM makes it very responsive -128GB internal storage plus SD card is very welcome (I own a TONS of music and take lots of pictures) -Cellular, WiFi, and Bluetooth radios work great -2 years warranty total (see CONS) -Screen edges are comfortably curved but there is no phantom touch like on Samsung S8 and S9 -The screen can natively be custom color corrected (I'm a photographer, I care!) -The fingerprint sensor is responsive and well placed -Charges fast either wired or wirelessly -Apps are well behaved (Except Engadget, but it crashes on all my Androids) -I love the Moroccan Blue finish! -Fewer security risks than Chinese made phones like ZTE or Huawei CONS: -After a week emailing back and forth, LG has still has not updated the database that will allow me to register my phone with them! They did admit it was a clerical error on their part, but don't seem to be in a hurry to correct it. -Glass backs make me nervous even with a case -No power button on the side (fingerprint sensor or Knock Knock) -No Stereo speakers -LG's skin is mediocre and Nova Launcher doesn't work properly

  • Battery life review???? Come on gsmarena......same goes to v35 please make the review

  • One thing makes this phone the KING. 3.5 mm jack! Shamesung makes phones without warranty but LG crack em all! Go to hell samesh*t, long live KING LG

  • I'm pretty sure you can get on on Amazon, but the price is going to be inflated. You can use At&t or T-Mobile for sim card.

  • Really good model

  • You can currently buy it from B&H Photo.

  • Does anyone know which US carrier supports this phone and which models each does support and where to buy one (again, in the US preferably) ? ? ?

  • I've had 2 LG's and I loved both of them and am shopping for a new one now. They weren't perfect but I don't think I've ever had a phone for as long as 2 years without having some sort of issue. Do they even exist? I'm thinking probably not many - so I'm sticking with what I know for now. Thanks for this gathering of phone data. It's amazing and sooo helpful!

  • You do realize that's the past right? No phone's from LG have Boot looping issues anymore.

  • Bootlooping + no customer support = LG never again

  • LG just fails to impress. I loved my LG Tablet and Nexus 4 and 5, also the first (optimus) g. But since then they trying but, at least for me, keep failing. THe g5 was awesome, but had too many flaws, since then they built great, but still average phones. They can do everything...every other phone can do too...for the same price - so why go for them? I found xiaomi more gimmicky, but much more appealing, since, yes they aren't all around awesome, but then again quite affordable. I want either outstanding design, some gimmicks, awesome batterylife or good price for quality, lg gave me nothing in the last years, sadly.

  • Doesn't sound like it's "gunna" be canceled.

  • Well unfortunately it looks like the g7 gunna be cancelled

  • Expected release 1Q? Yeah right... when G7 drops I'll probably get that instead.

  • hi hope this shit doesnt boot loop. i can understand LG make some good looking phone with very good specs and boom boot loop in ya ass. if they can fix this then i will stick to Lg for every.

  • With G7 and V35 fixing to land, this might as well be scrapped or priced to move.

  • ,,, because you are not buying anyway,,,,

  • $400.00 ?????? for thess specs????? 6" screen? then i forge it , nope this is not for you,,, get a nokia flipphone, 100.00,

  • Is this device even going to make it to the market???? Might be a nice grab at $499 if it does but other than that... :(

  • What are you taking about?? Clearly your comment doesn't have a proper meaning.

  • Dream phone

  • No IR Blaster, Snapdragon 835,Still Same 3300 mAh Li-Po battery and still Android 7.1.2... Seriously LG what are you doing...

  • LG is keep using back power button.. it is so uncomfortable. why LG is not listening to consumer.

  • Now V35 nuisance, what is LG doing with its 835 chipsets so many ch over ordered. Whining month three , same models versions launched! It shows LGs frustration and Silly ness? No way to sell them @850 a piece! Maybe buy one get one free wide do!

  • android 8 for lg v20 ?

  • Totally agree...

  • I have not seen a single post on V30S, sharing experience, nor will be Any! All generalized talk. Nobody will buy 835 year old, at 850$ Nuts! Why not sell balance Processor's 835 to others, rather than G7!

  • Hello GsmArena, When will we see a full review of this model?

  • LG ...if you're listening ....here's what I think made your 'V-series' great : Removable battery, Secondary screen, HiFi Quad-DAC, Manual Mode Camera(s), QHD Screen, LG UX+, Quick Remote. I (personally) don't care about : Wireless charging, Glass Sandwiches, Waterproofing, Boom Speakers, Selfie Camera(s) = 5 MP is fine for selfies, OLED screens = IPS LCD is great too. C'mon LG.... you're V10 and V20 are still awesome phones... even in 2018 ! !

  • L.G. removed I.R.blaster after v20 for no reason. L.G. g3 was a tremendous mobile they bought in the market. Almost perfect. From there they starts loosing. Coz L.G. was the only phone in the market with IR blaster & FM at the same time. Expecting them to bring it back

  • why does LG still not use SD 845? Android 7? Really ?

  • all those specs (android 7.1) face palm

  • #bringbacktheirblaster

  • I always had high expectations for LG and in many ways, I still do. I believe them to be the Korean underdog when compared to Samsung. I simply do not get the impression that they are thriving in the smartphone market. A few thoughts that come to mind with this "new" release...... SD835 chip in the V30S? -Have to believe anticipated sales figures for original V30 were low and LG had already committed to buying x amount of 835 chips with no other high end devices to put them in. This is by no means a knock on the SD835, still an excellent chipset in 2018. Same physical phone as V30 -Essentially goes back to the same reasoning previously stated above...plenty of components/units remaining due to lackluster sales of the V30 globally. Increase in RAM -Addition of RAM is cheap and despite not too many devices actually needing 6GB of RAM to get through today's games /apps, I suppose this will look better on the spec sheet over the V30. If LG can manage to resolve the P-OLED issues, the V30S will be an excellent option in 2018 despite the older SD835. I believe the key is to launch this device at a reasonable price point and have a good sell through in order to get LG relevant again. If the V30S (regardless of memory options)hits the market with a similar price point to flagship phones that are arriving with the SD845 and updates to their external appearance, LG will not fair well.

  • With the advent of : Non-removable batteries, No dedicated headphone port, 5G telecommunication bands, Ai implementation in all devices requiring electricity to function, High tech biometrics security... gosh, I'm confused. Bigger screens on smaller bodies, higher prices for less hardware specs, batteries relatively not changing in capacity but providing more power to high end processors, ....yah, I'm confused. Or maybe I can see the game being played in the smartphone world and consumers don't know the rules.

  • LG! One day the notch, the next day LCD panel still, whats next? Stop destroying yourself. You see Samsung doesn't recognizes you anymore as a competitor! Don't go downhill! The V30 was good, the only thing you did wrong was promotions and supply and a bit on specs. And BTW change the FRONT CAM!!! its hideous!! I'm thinking of changing to Samsung now; unless if you have something AMAZING in store for us. Fingers Crossed!

  • LG please make yourself unique again. Since LG decided to do away with its two unique features they fell in line with the everyday blah-blah-blah boring flagships. Unfortunately LG has both lost interest in its uniqueness and chose to followed the heard to be a common touch screen phone. No More... - Removal Battery No More... - IR for TV remote LG seems to barely hold on to the headphone jack, "thankfully". But I wonder when they will follow the crowd and also let that feature go. Come back LG.

  • Naively LG V30, plus, 256 S is all same inside out, except deception with colors stunt! Never ever think of buying, now worth 600$ in Black. Instead Themes and Gothic Fonts plus LG World is BullS!

  • Is a good phone, powerful and resistant, to you the chest of Lg G7.

  • Flagship phones' front camera is usually not too important and belongs to the last numbers of consideration. Instead they focus on bringing the best rear camera because it's the one which people use mostly.

  • Yes! I concur! Lg is trying to cut costs. $850 is overpriced.

  • Maybe you can label me an 'LG Fan' but I've tried : HTC, Samsung, iPhone and recently Pixel ....not too many Moto.... maybe a couple of Nokia .....and I keep going back and wanting an LG. I've even tried BLU and ZTE. There are many LG phone models that don't interest me but I think it's LG's UX or skin that's got to be the reason why I really like LG (flagship-tier) phones. I guess it compares to how people feel about 'Stock Android' ...or Nova Launcher. But the V30 is just disappointing after what 'fans' of the V-line were expecting. LG ....if you're listening.... every reason that made you bold and iconically different from all other brands is why you're my first choice in smartphones. 'Be You' .....you said that when you released the V10 .... I remember it and I hope you do too.

  • Lg g 7 release date please

  • dope device ever.

  • If Samsung had booked all 845 chips, still others as Sony, Zenfone, etc how could they get it initially. Its all farce, LG is incompetent to manage mobile division. It has always made blunders previously, and now instead of G7 with 845 its launched V30 a shadow upgrade with 950$ price tag!

  • Only premium phone I would like to buy in 2018. LG nailed it with v30

  • Similar to Samsung bixby

  • Ok, I am an LG fan and this is an "upgrade", even they cant get 845 they can start with front camera at least. AI does almost nothing and this is not an worthy upgrade. Also battery can be bigger , maybe even a biometric thing added at it to justify the price point but no, this time i feel like LG make us FOOLS. after G2,G3,Nexus 5x and V20 i feel its time to move on with some pure android brand.

  • same phone, new price, smart play LG, jk. Everyone knows this had to be v30+ version.

  • No, it's 18:9 ratio.

  • lol, you're either a troll or you don't realize that this is just an upgrade over the LG V30 (released last year) and Samsung purchased most of the Snapdragon 845 chips (meaning the competition can't get their hands on them as early).

  • Good lg but where is oreo and snapdragon 845

  • Is this traditional 16:9 ratio screen?

  • So far I think this is a good upgrade; altough if we compare most devices currently announced, Asus' new phone will have the most price/quality ratio.

  • This phone is rubbish! What is LG doing? I don't like the way the company is playing its cards. SD835 with 6GB of RAM is not enough to compete with other flagship phones with SD845. If LG priced the phone right, the device could be a hit but here in the Philippines, the damn phone V30S is as expensive as a Note 8!

  • If they slap a dual speaker on this and improve the front facing camera, it will really stand out. I do not get why put so much effort into making a crazy good device and then disregard the front facing camera as if its 2014...

  • Cos LG only export tested chips. That's why LG G4 did great with SD 808. SD 810 was released but it was not fully tested... And later it turned out that SD 810 was overheating on many devices. You can say whatever you want about LG but these guys play it safe.

  • Opps Lg did it again with last year chipset. Why not soc 845???

  • Improve selfie LG if you want survive.

  • You're right, its front camera is totally rubbish!!! It's non-sense at all

  • the 5mp front camera should be upgrades to 10 or 16 for selfies

  • lol try it dude ull hate all lg brand.sold my g6 after 2 weeks coz of front cam.selfies are shitty

  • whats wrong with 5 mp ??

  • afterall its a flagship

  • stil 5mp front camera? Really ?

  • LG V30s has Android 7.1.2, Phone memory 128GB LG V30s+ has Android 8.0, Phone memory 256GB

  • AI! It was too bro..

  • LG V30s Thinq with Android 8 no 7.1.2

  • Can someone explain me what's "thinq"? Is it something related to AI or what?

  • Just upgraded RAM and storage option don't make this phone as successor, more like a Pro version of plus version, the chipset still same despite the competition has using SD845. But if that's mean this phone'll sell cheaper then I might consider it

  • Also no notification led...why lg left out this special feature for always on displayed.

  • STILL WAITING FOR LG to have dual front firing speakers...or side firing at least with some dolby atmos...HOPEFULLY IN THE V40

  • I’m asking why LG mobiles is one step backe after others ?????

  • And poor 5mp camera still on board...idk Lg come on... Make it 16mp for selfie Lg judy

  • You must be kidding me... the V30s will still have that poor 5 megapixel front camera????? I think the G5 SE was the last LG I own. Even when the G7 comes back, I will not be coming back. Apple 8 plus (great and holds its value) is my next move if not Google Pixel 2 (best camera ever).

  • The same as the v30?? why?

  • Would love to get one but they are just way too damn big. And 6gb of ram.. not necessary

  • v30s has android oreo 8.0 in box , and have 4k video

  • Great phone

  • they should rename it to LG V36 for 6gb ram lol

  • Nice S8 copy of design. S8 ugliest phone on the market. Apart from that nothing special. Expected a lot from LG flagship but i am disapointed a lot.

  • does the AI gimmick require special hardware or what's the reason for this phone's existence? increased RAM and AI stuff aside, it looks to be identical to the regular V30

  • no 4K what a joke

  • It's must better to have front black panel.

  • Those black bezels (top/down) is reasonable just because better watching movies experience

  • pretty sure this isn't lg's next gen device with snap835. more like something to put on stage i guess .

  • Front panel still black??? So boring!!

  • No SD 845? No 8mp at least for the front camera? No Stereo Speakers? Do you think you can beat Galaxy S9 with this?

  • There is MIL-STD-810G (shock,vibration,solar radiation,salt,drop,rain...etc.. resistant.Also IP 68, gorilla Glass 5. Very nice)

  • Good phone! Jack headphones radio FM.. I hope to no something like this: bootloot..!! Hopefully! My next phone, perhaps..!!!

  • Um, the only interesting option it is: *Stereo FM radio with RDS* Tnx dear LG..
